- 1:00Speaker 2: Like, what's happening all me? How you doing big man
- 1:03Speaker 2: like a villain. You know.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's crazy. When I was like coming up in radio,
- 1:08Speaker 1: some of the first events I would work in Phoenix
- 1:11Speaker 1: was like.
- 1:11Speaker 2: The low Rider shows. Okay, yeah, yeah, the Lowrider shows
- 1:14Speaker 2: up there.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, at the at the at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum
- 1:17Speaker 1: in the parking lot, and y'all had the fucking High
- 1:19Speaker 1: Power fucking records tents on tents on tents on tents
- 1:23Speaker 1: selling all kinds of shit.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Oh, twenty thirty racks, a tent Magan, you know what
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it was crazy, like uh and then
- 1:31Speaker 1: like my first like so I came up in the
- 1:34Speaker 1: Swap Meet slanging mixtapes and ship when I was like
- 1:37Speaker 1: sixteen seventeen and there was a record store in Phoenix slowing.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Over slow Load. Yeah, I remember another one.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But these folks always was snitch on me.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Oh they had a.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Tent at the Swap Meet too, but they were selling
- 1:50Speaker 1: mostly oldies in Chicago rapp and I was selling like everything.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But yeah, you guys are like kind of like man,
- 1:56Speaker 1: high Power Records. You guys had a I mean fucking
- 1:58Speaker 1: that's like kind of ground zero for a lot of
- 2:01Speaker 1: this shit. It's happening right now.
- 2:02Speaker 2: If you talk about independent though, that was real independent shit,
- 2:05Speaker 2: you know, like people like, oh I'm independent. That was
- 2:07Speaker 2: like independent really put in work creating markets. You know
- 2:10Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 2:11Speaker 1: What year was the origin of High Power?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Early two thousands? Like two thousands, so I know, I
- 2:17Speaker 2: came out of jail like ninety eight, ninety nine, can
- 2:19Speaker 2: recall exact dates. And then I started working on music.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I went to Odm's studio a Lot.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Of Shit a brown Yeah, so that was one of
- 2:27Speaker 1: my first podcasts started.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was one of my first breakthroughs to
- 2:31Speaker 2: get into the music game. So when I went over there,
- 2:34Speaker 2: blah blah, you know, it took while. The story, it's
- 2:36Speaker 2: a long story, but eventually I got my music out.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And once I got my music out, early two thousands
- 2:42Speaker 2: was I'm starting and then building a brand and artists
- 2:46Speaker 2: and just everyone elevated to me.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You know, So how many artists at a like would
- 2:50Speaker 1: you say, all together have you guys had.
- 2:53Speaker 2: On the label? I mean there was a lot fifty plus,
- 2:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, fifty plus and some you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: legends in the game. When Little Flip had his big
- 3:02Speaker 2: song Sunshine after that we did three four projects with him.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to get you.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I want to Yeah, there's so much shit. Yeah, there's
- 3:09Speaker 2: a lot of.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Like random ship where I'd be like high power records. Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but I definitely, you know, just I feel like it's
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's interesting too because like fast forward to today and
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's like being a Mexican rappers like probably the it's
- 3:28Speaker 1: probably the I mean in terms of just like the
- 3:30Speaker 1: amount of success. You know, Mexican. Oti's got multi platinum records. Uh,
- 3:36Speaker 1: Lefty Gun plays on the Kendrick album. Like, it's just
- 3:39Speaker 1: a great time in hip hop to be Mexican. Would
- 3:43Speaker 1: you say this is like the the most at least commercially,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Baby Bash had a way, you know because Bash had
- 3:49Speaker 1: like cyclone and he had number one records. But in
- 3:51Speaker 1: terms of like, you know, I don't know.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I think it's coming back to where it was so
- 3:56Speaker 2: when I know, the thing we didn't have what they
- 3:59Speaker 2: have now is podcast and the internet is the Internet.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So now just a regular John could go and start
- 4:05Speaker 2: a podcast and he could get it out there and
- 4:08Speaker 2: people are gonna share it and clip it. We're in
- 4:10Speaker 2: our times. It was just you have to be on
- 4:12Speaker 2: the streets exactly. That was a podcast. You got to
- 4:15Speaker 2: be on the streets in the jungle, you know, with
- 4:17Speaker 2: all kinds of players and do it where Now today
- 4:20Speaker 2: you got a camera. You could be at a house,
- 4:22Speaker 2: let me interview you, and you're getting your voice out.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So on that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Note, it's not easier to put music out there.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yes, it's easier to put music out.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You got to get printed up and find it a
- 4:32Speaker 1: distribution and yeah, yeah exactly, and then you're sitting on
- 4:35Speaker 1: the overhead of all your CDs.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that one. You had to be hands on those days.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You have to be either you're in it or you're not.
- 4:40Speaker 2: You either have to be a rapper that's really twenty
- 4:43Speaker 2: four to seven living the life, or you just different, right,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you're like basically whatever. So nowadays you could do a
- 4:50Speaker 2: side job, be a rapper on the side, and if
- 4:52Speaker 2: you blow up, you could do it part time, going
- 4:55Speaker 2: to interviews whatever. You know. People nowadays are multitasking, but
- 4:59Speaker 2: in those days it was either do or die. You know.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's because you guys are part of a while
- 5:04Speaker 1: era where it was like you guys doing the super
- 5:06Speaker 1: gangster like South Side of Shit, and then you had
- 5:08Speaker 1: guys like MC magic and mb rioders doing like their thing,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and you guys would be at the same fucking shows.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was a mix of both sides,
- 5:19Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So I had the sauce
- 5:21Speaker 2: for the community, for the love jahs, for the ladies,
- 5:24Speaker 2: but then also I was raised a little bit different
- 5:27Speaker 2: or on the gangster side, so I personally was that
- 5:30Speaker 2: kind of guy, and but people that I was helping
- 5:33Speaker 2: out were also from the hoods and the stripers.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Remember when I was like, see y'all's posters and shit,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'd be like, these fools look like crazy ass folds
- 5:39Speaker 1: just got out of prison, like fucking with the tattoos and.
- 5:42Speaker 2: No shirts and shiite.
- 5:44Speaker 1: You guys had a fucking wave though. Man, it's crazy too,
- 5:47Speaker 1: because like you've kind of done so much over the
- 5:50Speaker 1: years in terms of just who you've worked with. You know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I know you've done stuff with Whiz and the Migos,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and you know, over and over you mentioned a little
- 5:59Speaker 1: flip thing. How did explain to me the business model
- 6:02Speaker 1: and how these random albums came to be, specifically with
- 6:05Speaker 1: certain members of Bone Thugs and Harmony, Because there were
- 6:08Speaker 1: some times where I was like, yo, is fucking Busy
- 6:11Speaker 1: Bone or Lazy Bone signed to High Power Records because
- 6:14Speaker 1: you guys were dropped.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Like, oh yeah, we were just dropping look at it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: So man, we were killing this so hard in the
- 6:19Speaker 2: game that eventually we had distribution going through Universal. We
- 6:23Speaker 2: had distribution, like everybody was coming up. We had like
- 6:26Speaker 2: gu and like different labels, big labels were coming at us.
- 6:29Speaker 2: But look, you gotta understand those days. I was a
- 6:31Speaker 2: hood full too in a way, so I didn't understand
- 6:34Speaker 2: the La Hollywood meet. At four o'clock at Capitol Records,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I got an email. I'm like, yo, I don't even
- 6:40Speaker 2: check my emails, you know what I'm saying. So we
- 6:42Speaker 2: were just so focused and kicking up dust that we
- 6:44Speaker 2: took it through a distroll and the records were hitting.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Everything that I was doing was basically charting, so I'm like, damn,
- 6:51Speaker 2: I'm charting so good. So all my money that I
- 6:53Speaker 2: would make, I was like, let's put on some other
- 6:55Speaker 2: people boom. So I put on other homies and then
- 6:58Speaker 2: eventually I was like, yo, I can get the biggest
- 7:01Speaker 2: artists right now. The numbers were doing. I could sign
- 7:04Speaker 2: whoever's one of the top dogs and then Little Flip
- 7:06Speaker 2: was coming off his label. He was independent, he had yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 2: so we worked out some deals with him. Bone obviously
- 7:13Speaker 2: were legends in the past, like they're they're real humble
- 7:16Speaker 2: dudes we worked with. I mean, the list kept going
- 7:18Speaker 2: on sugar Free, right.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Yeah, because it would be like you would have like
- 7:22Speaker 1: this High Power Records presents and then you know, like it,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but you would think, like damn liked did these fools
- 7:29Speaker 1: get out of their deal? Or like, were you guys
- 7:31Speaker 1: just doing like one off like we're yeah, we're doing like, Yo,
- 7:33Speaker 1: here's a bag for an album whatever.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Because I wasn't a real label, a real label, and
- 7:37Speaker 2: those days were like an office in downtown LA with
- 7:40Speaker 2: twenty people.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Essentially like yo, an album, here's a bag.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Whatever I make of this is me move forward exactly
- 7:46Speaker 2: like what I might got royalties that month of I'm
- 7:50Speaker 2: just making a fake number two hundred k boom, I was, okay,
- 7:53Speaker 2: let me just dish this out to new artists that
- 7:55Speaker 2: I could do deals with. I was. I was trying
- 7:57Speaker 2: to you know, I was trying to get at snoop
- 7:59Speaker 2: to do a problem I was ready to do with anyone.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But you know, it was hard because we're on the streets,
- 8:04Speaker 2: they're doing their things at the shows. But whoever we
- 8:07Speaker 2: got access to we cut the deal and everybody said, yeah, I.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Mean, you guys are making it. Hadn't been making a
- 8:11Speaker 1: ton of money.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Though, man, I mean we were just yeah, we were kids.
- 8:14Speaker 2: It was all independent, independent, bro, I mean that shit
- 8:16Speaker 2: was that shit. We were ahead of the time. We
- 8:19Speaker 2: were really independent. Like only other guy I could see
- 8:21Speaker 2: that did it the right model was those guys in
- 8:23Speaker 2: Kansas City Strange Music, and they got hundred buses and
- 8:26Speaker 2: they did their thing. But other than that, we were
- 8:28Speaker 2: doing the same thing, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys had a whole like roster, Yeah, building
- 8:33Speaker 1: up like who would you say, outside of yourself was
- 8:37Speaker 1: the most successful artists that you guys produced.
- 8:40Speaker 2: We did a lot of I mean, Dan, there were
- 8:42Speaker 2: so many people we had, Like it was just sometimes
- 8:45Speaker 2: it was random compilations. We would put something called like
- 8:48Speaker 2: Gangster Love, you know, and then it would be all
- 8:50Speaker 2: tracks that are for the ladies, but Gangster Wise, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 2: and that shit would sell like half a million records.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like, what the hell? Right?
- 8:58Speaker 2: So it was just random even shit that would that's going.
- 9:00Speaker 2: It was just the concept of everybody was on that movement,
- 9:03Speaker 2: so there was not no rat. Everybody's numbers was just
- 9:06Speaker 2: going up and up and and eventually, you know, it
- 9:08Speaker 2: gets watered down in time with artists. But it was
- 9:11Speaker 2: mostly that and some of the big artists that we
- 9:14Speaker 2: had in the game.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Yeah, because I know you
- 9:16Speaker 1: got I mean, did you get you guys? I mean Criminal?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Criminal was one of the big guys. So Criminal
- 9:21Speaker 2: was one of the I knew his homies from his hood.
- 9:23Speaker 2: He basically, did you guys ever work with Night Out? No?
- 9:26Speaker 2: We never worked with night or No.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I just remember. I just remember like, yeah, you guys,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I just remember that.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Like and then Criminal was popping and then he was
- 9:34Speaker 2: Then eventually he started stepping up where he did everything good.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So I was like, look, we're gonna put Nake Dog
- 9:41Speaker 2: on your record, putting Ake Doog on his record. He
- 9:43Speaker 2: had Fat Joe on his record. We got Fat Joe.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I mean, like the list goes on. And he started
- 9:48Speaker 2: working with Busy Bonet and producing a lot of albums,
- 9:51Speaker 2: so it was like whoever was bubbling to the top.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I was like, we're gonna double down on it.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You know, is all that catalog still in your possession?
- 10:00Speaker 2: Oh that's the thing. It wasn't crazy because I like,
- 10:02Speaker 2: I don't want to say numbers, but there was like
- 10:05Speaker 2: and the millions was old right at one time and
- 10:07Speaker 2: it wasn't in my possessions and I had to get
- 10:10Speaker 2: get it back. But take Big o' l and eventually
- 10:14Speaker 2: so some of them went over here someone there. So
- 10:16Speaker 2: it's a little bit mixed up, you know what I'm saying, not.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Like in terms of like just I mean, think about
- 10:20Speaker 1: all those projects, all the scenes you guys had, Like,
- 10:22Speaker 1: is that those are all still high power records?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah, there's still yes.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And are they on like DSP's and all that all
- 10:27Speaker 1: the old ship.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Or some of them DSP would like like Spotify, Yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 2: they're all Yeah, everything's up there to so all the
- 10:33Speaker 2: music is out there still going crazy some old records.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I see the numbers still running like crazy numbers. I'm like, damn,
- 10:40Speaker 2: you know, just algorithms.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I remember. The craziest thing is when I found out
- 10:44Speaker 1: you were from Pakistan. Yeah, it was like finding out
- 10:46Speaker 1: the Santa Claus was real. I'm like, wait a minute,
- 10:49Speaker 1: this was not Mexican.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah off on KPK yeah yeah, oh yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And that's been out for over a decade. It's old news.
- 10:57Speaker 1: What I thought was dope, though, was to see you
- 11:01Speaker 1: stand for Palestine. Yeah, because yeah, you know, you put
- 11:04Speaker 1: out the Free Palestine record.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I mean I've been standing for any community like I've
- 11:07Speaker 2: been standing for the Mexican community. I've been standing for Palestine,
- 11:11Speaker 2: you know, Like to me, I don't look at you
- 11:13Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. I've stood up for many different things.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And with the Palestine thing, that was deep. So you
- 11:18Speaker 2: know what's good right now? Palestine got their freedom And
- 11:21Speaker 2: I was like, bro, like this is a small place.
- 11:24Speaker 2: They're doing all kinds of crazy things to these people.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Like someone got to stand up, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So I don't know, I just I knew the history
- 11:30Speaker 2: of what's going on, so I had to speak on it,
- 11:32Speaker 2: you know. For you?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Was it? Uh? When it like it hit kind of
- 11:37Speaker 1: because you never really like hid your background, but you'd
- 11:41Speaker 1: also never really put it out there. Yeah, when it
- 11:43Speaker 1: kind of got out there more and more that you
- 11:45Speaker 1: were like Middle Eastern, do you feel like like was
- 11:47Speaker 1: the blowback easy to deal with?
- 11:49Speaker 2: Well? No, I mean, look, first of all, central agents,
- 11:51Speaker 2: so I'm.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Not technically right by.
- 11:56Speaker 2: All that, you know, like it's all it's all you know, it's.
- 12:00Speaker 1: This Pakistan, India, Thailand. I'm trying to.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Think, Yeah, that's South Asia. And then you go up
- 12:04Speaker 2: there's China, but you go leftist gassing ta Jikistan or
- 12:07Speaker 2: the borders Kazakhstan where Boxer Triple G's from, uh you know,
- 12:12Speaker 2: Kabeev and all them, Dagistan, so you know, just all
- 12:15Speaker 2: the Stan areas, but it's considered South central however, it's
- 12:18Speaker 2: but it's not really Middle East, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So all the people like he Middle Eastern Armenian, I
- 12:22Speaker 2: get all kinds of names, you know, but it is
- 12:24Speaker 2: what it is, iron tripping, you know.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah, have you been back?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Uh nah, because I haven't been back, man, because Ship
- 12:31Speaker 2: and I need, I need to do a whole documentary
- 12:34Speaker 2: out there.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Dude, if you went out there a K's and ship,
- 12:36Speaker 1: it should be crazy. Yeah. Yeah, so you ended up
- 12:40Speaker 1: you grew up in West Covina when you ended up
- 12:42Speaker 1: coming to La right.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, West Covina. Lot wented. Then I moved out to
- 12:45Speaker 2: the Inland Empire and I got to Inland Empire. Then
- 12:49Speaker 2: when I start coming up in the music, I start
- 12:51Speaker 2: living out there in Mariloma, Corona, and then I moved.
- 12:55Speaker 1: To La Was was it always in the cars for
- 12:58Speaker 1: you to do music or was it something that you
- 12:59Speaker 1: just try to pick it up because said you were incartrated,
- 13:01Speaker 1: got out and started.
- 13:02Speaker 2: You know in the hood. You know, I was known
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the hood to rap me my homeboy Peanut. I
- 13:06Speaker 2: had a hombaye Peanut. I had a homeboy Scrappy, A
- 13:09Speaker 2: couple of homies. We used to always mess around. So
- 13:12Speaker 2: we went to like house parties in different hoods and
- 13:14Speaker 2: DJs will be there. We'll just fuck around representing our hoods.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So it was always in the dna of rapping, but
- 13:20Speaker 2: not to the level of like next level to be
- 13:23Speaker 2: on you know, TV or you know. It was just
- 13:25Speaker 2: hood shit. And then eventually when I was inside, like
- 13:30Speaker 2: you know, like to me, you know, when you're inside,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you got a lot of time, a lot of exactly.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So when I'm in there, I'm like, you know, what
- 13:36Speaker 2: if Because I was real focus on the gangster shit, right,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I was very deep devoted into representing the hood shit.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But when I was in there, I was like man,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you know what if I get out if something positive,
- 13:47Speaker 2: because you think positive, everybody thinks somehow like you get
- 13:50Speaker 2: out the I'm like, man, if I could rap, that'd
- 13:53Speaker 2: be dope, right. That was my intentions thinking. And then
- 13:56Speaker 2: I remember a guy in the same theater, on the
- 13:58Speaker 2: same thing. He was talking about rap. He's like, yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 2: I have to go on tours. This guy slow Pain,
- 14:03Speaker 2: like I would hear him every day talk about rap game.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I was like, man, if I got that chance, I'm
- 14:08Speaker 2: gonna run with it. And then something came in my mind,
- 14:09Speaker 2: if you ever get that chance, don't.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Ever make sure you take it, don't take advantage of it.
- 14:14Speaker 2: So when I got to ODEM, that was that was
- 14:17Speaker 2: the memory for Jill, like this is that connection?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because it was like Lightership, the Brown Kid, Frost
- 14:24Speaker 1: g you know what I mean.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And I looked at them like, yo, signed me.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Kind I had like real hits.
- 14:29Speaker 2: A lot of ODM messed up. He could have been.
- 14:32Speaker 1: He had a nice radio career, but man, he would
- 14:35Speaker 1: have came up all man. But he signed everybody back.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I will say I was telling sign me. I was
- 14:40Speaker 2: telling anyone to sign me. But you know those you
- 14:42Speaker 2: know people don't know, and then I was forced to
- 14:45Speaker 2: do it myself and I was the best blessing.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So once you hit like peak success as an artist,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and obviously there are bigger situations that are paying attention
- 14:54Speaker 1: to what you guys are doing. Was there ever any
- 14:56Speaker 1: like record deals on the table? Oh oh, Ship Dog
- 15:00Speaker 1: been a major situation.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Crazy deals, A lot of deals from big artists that
- 15:04Speaker 2: were around like fifty cents to like, there's just a
- 15:07Speaker 2: lot of labels, different labels, New York calling me in yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 2: do you and the team Cotch Records, Alan Grumble. There
- 15:18Speaker 2: was a lot of people just so long I'd get emails.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Look at I was playing on Kiss FM and I
- 15:24Speaker 2: was the song Summertime Anthem was one of the top
- 15:26Speaker 2: five to ten played. Julie Pilot remember her, of course, Yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 2: shout out Julie mash music. She solid because she she
- 15:34Speaker 2: seen the buzz on the streets and she added me
- 15:37Speaker 2: to the playlist. They started recording. Now She's like, hey,
- 15:40Speaker 2: all the record labels are contacting me. Should I afward
- 15:43Speaker 2: the email to you? And I was like, oh yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 2: I'm like yeah, but I'm like I don't even do this,
- 15:47Speaker 2: you know, I'm just going with the flow, acting like
- 15:49Speaker 2: I know what's up with all the business side, But
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, but I wasn't even tripping. I was
- 15:54Speaker 2: focused on the streets. You know.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Did you guys ever have like it? Because it's it's
- 15:58Speaker 1: so funny because I'm from Phoenix, right, Yeah, So for us,
- 16:01Speaker 1: like MC magical was that motherfucker you know, and shout
- 16:03Speaker 1: out to Magic and he's still doing hundreds of shows
- 16:06Speaker 1: a year killing it. But you guys were existing in
- 16:09Speaker 1: the space in the same at the same time, but
- 16:11Speaker 1: it was very different, like y'all were doing different shit,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Did you guys ever have
- 16:15Speaker 1: any sort of like rivalry or anything in those times?
- 16:18Speaker 2: No? And those times no, Actually I looked out for Magic.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I did records with him, you know.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I mean he was like, he's like the nicest dude too.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I even put together some shows plays for him. So
- 16:30Speaker 2: he's always showed love back. He's always been a genuine dude.
- 16:33Speaker 2: So there was never no rivalry back then. I feel
- 16:37Speaker 2: like now there's a little division now as time went by.
- 16:42Speaker 2: You know, obviously they're trying to keep a certain image
- 16:45Speaker 2: and supposedly I might not be that image, Like maybe
- 16:48Speaker 2: I'm too gangster. I don't know. But Magic's always showed
- 16:51Speaker 2: love for sure. It's just maybe people behind it, you
- 16:54Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 16:56Speaker 1: When when Because you guys are doing your thing and
- 16:59Speaker 1: then ups records, Yeah, starts cracking right.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:02Speaker 1: They got a little Rob at Summer Nights.
- 17:04Speaker 2: So yeah, back then, so I was I had a
- 17:06Speaker 2: record take a chance on me. It's yeah, Joe Lopez
- 17:10Speaker 2: or Mark So yeah, Joel, Yeah, there's three, there's three.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Joe's was a lady named John John Lopez Joe. Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 2: So I remember Rob was off his old deal whatever happened,
- 17:23Speaker 2: and he kind of like quit rapping. He had some projects,
- 17:25Speaker 2: he came out. It was kind of just fading away
- 17:28Speaker 2: kind of thing. I went to radio would take a
- 17:30Speaker 2: chance on me. I came with a couple other records,
- 17:33Speaker 2: and then I kind of like they're like what like
- 17:35Speaker 2: upstairs was like this guy looks like because there weren't
- 17:38Speaker 2: even nobody wanted to deal with Rob or me because
- 17:41Speaker 2: of the image, and they go, oh ship and then
- 17:44Speaker 2: they signed Rob and then they got I was in
- 17:46Speaker 2: the studio with fingers. They got him in the studio
- 17:48Speaker 2: with fingers, and there are record label that's actually kind
- 17:52Speaker 2: of legit. So they knew how to work radio, I
- 17:54Speaker 2: guess from the radio thing. So she's like, if this
- 17:57Speaker 2: guy can get play and he's getting he's hit numbers.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Rob's was their CAPONI Rob were like the names in
- 18:03Speaker 2: those days, right.
- 18:04Speaker 1: For sure, you guys, you guys are like the fucking
- 18:06Speaker 1: Tupac and jay Z at the time.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I mean yeah, and Rob was kind of like before me,
- 18:10Speaker 2: so he was always that guy that everybody was like,
- 18:13Speaker 2: Rob Rober sure it was about to fall off, and
- 18:15Speaker 2: boom he signed him and then next you know, they
- 18:19Speaker 2: worked radio. They went straight to the campaigns. They hit
- 18:22Speaker 2: it hard, and I was like, damn, they're you know,
- 18:24Speaker 2: like same guys that I'm working with, Michael Whitett or
- 18:27Speaker 2: whoever was around. They were like, yeah, this guy knew
- 18:29Speaker 2: guy that were I was like, he's not new, he's
- 18:31Speaker 2: been around, Yeah for sure, But the door start opening
- 18:34Speaker 2: for radio, you know what I'm.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Saying, not for sure, because it was like he had
- 18:36Speaker 1: summer nights. Yeah, there was like the NB Righters, she
- 18:39Speaker 1: getting played and then yeah, yeah, it was crazy, especially
- 18:42Speaker 1: like on the West Coast, Like yeah, I mean, I mean,
- 18:44Speaker 1: how important was it like having like a show back
- 18:46Speaker 1: in the day, like pocost Pedal Locals that was like
- 18:47Speaker 1: kind of helping break you guys, even if it was
- 18:49Speaker 1: like yeah on the weekend, Like.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I mean, I had no problem with it. I was
- 18:53Speaker 2: cool with it. Uh. Some people disagreed with it, disagreed
- 18:57Speaker 2: with the radio show, yeah, because some people like saying
- 18:59Speaker 2: it was and was only beneficial for certain artists. And
- 19:03Speaker 2: I'll tell you even me, I wasn't played on it
- 19:05Speaker 2: at the beginning, but by so much you know, success
- 19:09Speaker 2: that I was doing by myself, I eventually got in rotation,
- 19:13Speaker 2: but definitely was a positive for a lot of artists
- 19:15Speaker 2: that are coming up. So technically it helped a lot
- 19:18Speaker 2: of people. Some people, I hear people complain, but to me,
- 19:22Speaker 2: it was no, it was just it was opening the
- 19:24Speaker 2: doors might have been played in Kansas and they might
- 19:27Speaker 2: have not known.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You know, what are your thoughts because I've obviously you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I'm cool with the guy. I'm cool bo, so I'm
- 19:32Speaker 1: cool to a lot of dudes who are in the space.
- 19:35Speaker 1: But I feel like there's so much like turmoil within
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Chicono wrap space in LA in terms of just
- 19:41Speaker 1: people beef and button heads. Is that something that's always happened.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Oh, I guess you know, everybody wants to be the man.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Everyone's trying to do the thing. So at the end
- 19:50Speaker 2: of the day, it's gonna come. You know what I'm saying,
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's gonna come. It's I see it like right now,
- 19:56Speaker 2: I see so much internet like pages about all these
- 20:00Speaker 2: rappers beefing with each other. You know, to me, like
- 20:03Speaker 2: all the ones who've been around there, they know it's
- 20:05Speaker 2: got to be on the streets. So if anything's on there,
- 20:07Speaker 2: but yeah, it's not a good look because at the
- 20:09Speaker 2: end of the day, people will get divided and that
- 20:13Speaker 2: kills the numbers. You know what I'm saying. I've seen
- 20:15Speaker 2: it in our time in the rap game, where it
- 20:18Speaker 2: was about to be a big movement, right, it was
- 20:20Speaker 2: about to blow up, and then just divisions start happening,
- 20:23Speaker 2: boom boom. So next you know, even with the radio,
- 20:26Speaker 2: radio is playing my records and then maybe some haters
- 20:29Speaker 2: calling in, hey don't play that shit, play this shit.
- 20:32Speaker 2: They're like, we don't know what's going on. So you're
- 20:34Speaker 2: scaring the outside of you know what I'm saying, And
- 20:36Speaker 2: they're getting scared, like what's up with you know, like
- 20:39Speaker 2: people are saying they're threatening to call the radio station.
- 20:41Speaker 2: So it got kind of the internet. Well I don't
- 20:44Speaker 2: want the internet, but the little cheese May and all
- 20:46Speaker 2: that drama start hitting right and it just probably crushed everyone.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Look at Lefty, he's doing good right now. I see
- 20:52Speaker 2: so many people just hating on him, you know what
- 20:53Speaker 2: I'm saying. So it's just part of the nature of
- 20:57Speaker 2: the game, like I think.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I look at the left thing like
- 21:00Speaker 1: people people think left he's like an unconventional guy, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: he is because he's very very He's a character, you know.
- 21:06Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, Like it's like
- 21:09Speaker 1: he's working man like, like, why wouldn't you want a
- 21:11Speaker 1: champion him if he's.
- 21:12Speaker 2: You want to go with anyone who's working.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So yeah, like you said, he's working his ass off,
- 21:17Speaker 1: dude is working his Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I've been just doing I don't even do podcasts, never
- 21:21Speaker 2: did them, but I just started doing podcasts now, and
- 21:24Speaker 2: I'm like, dam this is our work. It's like a job.
- 21:26Speaker 2: You got to go and show up type podcast.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I saw you and left Het in baker'shield.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Baker Fiel we met. He sent me messages
- 21:32Speaker 2: back in the days like hey, I want to get
- 21:34Speaker 2: signed blah blah blah. But I was not in the
- 21:36Speaker 2: space of signing anyone at that time. And he showed
- 21:40Speaker 2: love as a youngster in the game the right way.
- 21:42Speaker 2: So I give him his credit to, you know, respecting.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Same with a lot of different other artists that came
- 21:49Speaker 2: out of like Pestle and all these guys. Sure they respect.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I did even a record with Pestl, you know what
- 21:54Speaker 2: I'm saying. So when the youngsters show respect to that's respect,
- 21:59Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So, did you have the issue the same issue that
- 22:02Speaker 1: he's having in terms of just like not having not
- 22:05Speaker 1: being able to do shows past a certain point in
- 22:07Speaker 1: Northern California because just as the politics.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I think you can. I think at the end of
- 22:13Speaker 2: the day, for shows you got, someone's got a book
- 22:15Speaker 2: you right, So I mean, I'm sure if someone booked
- 22:19Speaker 2: him and paid him a ticket, he.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Probably was show when you were coming up.
- 22:22Speaker 2: I did Modesto, I just stocked in, I did Sacramento.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I did stuff for the radio stations up there, and
- 22:28Speaker 2: I you know, like in the back of my head,
- 22:30Speaker 2: I knew, like you know, and maybe they don't know
- 22:32Speaker 2: what's yet, But I'm coming here and there was never
- 22:36Speaker 2: drama but internet. But yeah, his food was over here.
- 22:39Speaker 2: You know, I see little hating going on whatever, blah
- 22:41Speaker 2: blah blah. But you know we were coming with respect
- 22:44Speaker 2: if anyone. You know, it is what it is in
- 22:46Speaker 2: any situation. And then up there there's a lot of
- 22:49Speaker 2: fans too who support and so that's what I'm worried about,
- 22:53Speaker 2: like the fans getting into with each other, you know
- 22:55Speaker 2: what I'm saying. So I mean, but yeah, it's it definitely.
- 22:57Speaker 2: It's a show wise, it's a very then line to
- 23:00Speaker 2: do events up there because no promoters are gonna want
- 23:03Speaker 2: to do too much. But they might play the radio
- 23:05Speaker 2: and there might be a lot of love there because
- 23:07Speaker 2: I pull up to the malls out there and I'm like, yo,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, they know they recognize me faster up
- 23:12Speaker 2: here then down there because they're more fascinated.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm Sayingeah, I mean, it's I think
- 23:15Speaker 1: that's the one thing. As I was telling that to Lefty,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I was like, man, like, if you go on tour
- 23:19Speaker 1: with YG, you're gonna have to go perform in Oakland. Yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 1: You're gonna have to and if you want to be
- 23:24Speaker 1: like a superstar for real, Like at a certain point
- 23:27Speaker 1: in time, it's like it just sucks to always see that.
- 23:31Speaker 2: But I feel like he's got enough fans or.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Like somebody, like the politics always kind of split in
- 23:36Speaker 1: the state in half with a lot of rappers where
- 23:37Speaker 1: it's like, damn, like and I talked to somebody what's
- 23:41Speaker 1: his name? Baldacci has said that, like even there's like
- 23:45Speaker 1: a semi truce in prison right now, and you would
- 23:48Speaker 1: think some of that would like trans.
- 23:50Speaker 2: But the streets is different. Obviously, there's always gonna be
- 23:52Speaker 2: some bad blood, you know what I'm saying. So everyone's
- 23:56Speaker 2: gonna have bad blood. Whoever has bad blood. So you
- 23:59Speaker 2: can have problems out here too, for sure. So I
- 24:01Speaker 2: feel like, look, you can go up there and do
- 24:03Speaker 2: a show and they could be proms just as much
- 24:06Speaker 2: as it could be proems down here, because there's a
- 24:08Speaker 2: lot of supporters out there. You gotta understand, there's a
- 24:10Speaker 2: lot of people that down with the LA stuff up
- 24:13Speaker 2: there too.
- 24:13Speaker 1: That's what you said. It's like, if you get fans
- 24:15Speaker 1: in both sides in the same place, that could be
- 24:16Speaker 1: fucking a problem.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at my you know, I
- 24:19Speaker 2: don't know, I haven't checked the Spotify numbers whatever, but
- 24:22Speaker 2: pay area is always top three, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Still, how did you end up leaking with Neon the streamer?
- 24:28Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, Neon? So I ran him a couple of times.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Lollo gone brazy from Arizona, so I know his manager's
- 24:35Speaker 2: shadow shadow. He used to be high powered supporter back
- 24:39Speaker 2: in the days, just the homies up from the airport.
- 24:41Speaker 2: You know, He's one of those guys that was always
- 24:43Speaker 2: a genuine dude. And uh, I guess he picked up
- 24:46Speaker 2: Lollo and did his management. So we went to Arizona,
- 24:49Speaker 2: we networked. He's with Neon. I was with Neon and
- 24:53Speaker 2: other people I know, like Sneakle and different people that
- 24:55Speaker 2: knew Neon. So there was a little connection here and there.
- 24:58Speaker 2: And then once we went to that thing in Arizona,
- 25:01Speaker 2: like the wedding that have you seen that? Neil was
- 25:04Speaker 2: like man, I like you, man, let's do something. I
- 25:06Speaker 2: was like, yeah, let's get it cracking.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Have you noticed like the spike and like attention because
- 25:10Speaker 1: he's he's been streaming crazy.
- 25:12Speaker 2: A lot of people seeing that. You're right, I mean,
- 25:14Speaker 2: definitely a lot of people got. You know, we're hitting
- 25:16Speaker 2: me up on that lot is those clip Those clippings
- 25:19Speaker 2: were crazy, you know, and the most clip farming. Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 2: the most dangerous man in America with Neon all kinds
- 25:24Speaker 2: of crazy shit. Yeah, so that was cool. Yeah, I
- 25:27Speaker 2: have fun with him. Watched up man.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah he seems like a nice kid. Are you back
- 25:31Speaker 1: to wanting to sign artists again?
- 25:33Speaker 2: I feel like I have to create what I did
- 25:36Speaker 2: back in the days. So that's why this year to
- 25:39Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, I'm back on the music. So I
- 25:42Speaker 2: just dropped the single right now. This week. I got
- 25:44Speaker 2: records with Mazie coming out. I got, I got a
- 25:46Speaker 2: lot of records coming out, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So that's the record that you you did a previous
- 25:50Speaker 1: with with Neon and the exact Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so I just barely dropped that right now. So
- 25:55Speaker 2: basically coming back to what I did before. And that's
- 25:59Speaker 2: why I'm on these podcast That's what I'm on, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 2: Like I'm here to just grind and bring it back,
- 26:04Speaker 2: bring the hunger back. So like people are like, yo, Capona,
- 26:07Speaker 2: I've been getting dms the last year or two, Like
- 26:09Speaker 2: why don't you do some music. Why don't you like
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm just getting a lot of that slack from the fans.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Like I'm doing shows, I'm cool, I'm getting my bread,
- 26:16Speaker 2: I'm doing shows, I'm getting love. But like, where's the
- 26:18Speaker 2: new music. That's the biggest question saying where's the new music?
- 26:21Speaker 2: So I was like, you know what, I'm like, yo,
- 26:23Speaker 2: I do drop music here and there, but I'm not
- 26:25Speaker 2: really pushing the music. You feel me, I'm just doing
- 26:27Speaker 2: it for fun. So I'm like this year, I'm gonna
- 26:29Speaker 2: push the music. I'm come in with the music and
- 26:31Speaker 2: I'm we'll bring it back like I did. Once I
- 26:33Speaker 2: get to my powerful platform, which I still do, numbers
- 26:36Speaker 2: as big as any of the top guys past so Lefty,
- 26:39Speaker 2: my numbers are still up there. But once I get
- 26:41Speaker 2: back to her, I want to get back radio, back
- 26:44Speaker 2: to whatever, take it to the next level. That's when
- 26:47Speaker 2: I could say, hey, maybe I could sign people. But
- 26:48Speaker 2: right now it's like for what, Yeah, you know, it's
- 26:51Speaker 2: a lot of work. You know.
- 26:52Speaker 1: The last time I saw you was in Vegas with OT.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I was up there.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I got a record with OT said you
- 26:58Speaker 1: got say anything with OT coming?
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I got that's probably might be my second single
- 27:02Speaker 2: or third single. When I come with ot.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Fire, it's gonna be it's gonna be a hitter. Yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 1: ot be. He'd be fighting, he's like training and ship.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I was like for you, yeah, yeah, I was like,
- 27:12Speaker 2: I want to have a little challenge with you. When
- 27:14Speaker 2: I seen I was like, this guy, hold on around.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So before your come up, there was like like the
- 27:20Speaker 1: South Park Mexican era before that, which also was like
- 27:24Speaker 1: he was getting like Wiggy Wiggy was getting played on
- 27:26Speaker 1: the radio and ship where I obviously all all of
- 27:31Speaker 1: the you know, he deserves to be in jail. Yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 1: let's be yeah, you know, like he's it is what
- 27:37Speaker 1: it is, he's a PDF. But we're like, were you
- 27:40Speaker 1: guys before obviously you know what ended up happening him
- 27:44Speaker 1: getting incarcerated. I mean, Dope House Records was very influential, definitely.
- 27:48Speaker 2: They were pretty known in Texas and I've seen that
- 27:51Speaker 2: when we're coming up, I would hear Dope Pase Records.
- 27:54Speaker 2: But when I came up, maybe a year I was
- 27:57Speaker 2: in the game, he might have been around.
- 27:59Speaker 1: But that's why I was curious.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I'm curious if you were influencing like he was. I
- 28:02Speaker 2: didn't see nothing, just he was huge. Yeah. When I
- 28:05Speaker 2: was creating our movement out here, people were like, hey,
- 28:07Speaker 2: there's a movement in Texas called Dope House yep. So
- 28:10Speaker 2: I was like, you know, you got to give respect
- 28:12Speaker 2: to the movement. So I was like, okay, they got
- 28:14Speaker 2: something cracking. And then Little Flip was doing it. So
- 28:16Speaker 2: then I started going to Texas and I seen what
- 28:18Speaker 2: they were doing the same thing we were doing in
- 28:21Speaker 2: the West Coast, you know, the version I was in
- 28:23Speaker 2: the Dallas swamis. I seen all the with the big
- 28:26Speaker 2: grand pre swaman. You know, there are all these places
- 28:28Speaker 2: and their posters were there, just like how we were
- 28:31Speaker 2: in La streets.
- 28:32Speaker 1: So a lot of people don't know Baby Bash was
- 28:34Speaker 1: signed exact Dope Houses Baby Beach yep.
- 28:37Speaker 2: So we came over there and start putting our ship
- 28:39Speaker 2: up and representing, and you know, over there, Texas was
- 28:41Speaker 2: like feeling. They're like, yeah, we loving this music. And
- 28:44Speaker 2: I don't know nothing about his charges. I don't think
- 28:47Speaker 2: anyone did. I don't think anyone, you know, you would
- 28:49Speaker 2: hear rumors he got done dirty whatever, so you know,
- 28:52Speaker 2: didn't pay.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I think it's I think his bail just got denied. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I don't think he's getting out. I think they were
- 28:58Speaker 1: expecting him to get out. What do you think about
- 29:00Speaker 1: a guy like mexicanot who's doing his own thing, obviously,
- 29:03Speaker 1: and I think he's like he could rap with the
- 29:05Speaker 1: best of.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Him, Like yeah, I mean you look at it at
- 29:08Speaker 2: the end of the day, Yeah, he's he's definitely making
- 29:10Speaker 2: waves doing shows. He's cracking. He's with I think a
- 29:14Speaker 2: label to Universal Right or something like that.
- 29:16Speaker 1: He's with Cinematic or I'm sorry, good Talk through interscope.
- 29:21Speaker 2: So whoever they are, man, they're doing a good job.
- 29:23Speaker 2: They're putting a lot of bags behind him, They're working it,
- 29:26Speaker 2: they're doing what they can do. And that's what, at
- 29:28Speaker 2: the end of the day makes the artists blow up.
- 29:30Speaker 2: And he's blown up because he's got the right team,
- 29:33Speaker 2: right facility. And I did a show with this guy
- 29:36Speaker 2: before and before he even got signed, and I don't
- 29:39Speaker 2: know how he did it, but in his crowd he
- 29:41Speaker 2: had a lot of people wearing his shirt. And when
- 29:44Speaker 2: after I was done, I chatted with some people. Hey
- 29:46Speaker 2: I'm his neighbor, Hey I'm his uncle, Like I'm like like,
- 29:50Speaker 2: so he had people pulling up he had a lot
- 29:53Speaker 2: of like teamwork to create what he created, and he's
- 29:56Speaker 2: got a great team behind him. So yeah, so props
- 29:58Speaker 2: to him for doing this thing like that for sure.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Now he's killing him. D Baby's killing it.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Uh. I've seen d be a bit of club. We're
- 30:05Speaker 2: supposed to work and stuff. So I've seen about Houston
- 30:07Speaker 2: Sekaya Club, you know the boys over there.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, so you got obviously isn't an album
- 30:13Speaker 1: coming out.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so right now, I got a little EP I'm
- 30:15Speaker 2: on to drop probably before March or April or somewhere
- 30:18Speaker 2: in that time, and then I'm just gonna constantly just
- 30:21Speaker 2: drop records. So at least three to five singles at
- 30:23Speaker 2: least this year of records of real records, and then
- 30:26Speaker 2: just regular songs, twenty thirty songs.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You know, has it been because you I feel like
- 30:30Speaker 1: you've had like spurts or I'd be like, oh shit,
- 30:32Speaker 1: there's a new music video from Caponi.
- 30:34Speaker 2: That yeah, I was doing spurts shit kind of yeah.
- 30:37Speaker 1: You know, I'd be like, oh shit, this was working
- 30:39Speaker 1: with Molly Mall. You know, you know that song is out,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Like yeah, but do you feel like you're starting like
- 30:46Speaker 1: because when you like you you had such a level
- 30:49Speaker 1: of success getting it out the trunk, and then the
- 30:52Speaker 1: new world is like you said, now I'm doing podcasts,
- 30:54Speaker 1: now stepping out and you feel like you've you've adjusted
- 30:57Speaker 1: well to figuring out like the new.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely business model. I know I know what the
- 31:03Speaker 2: new business model is. That's why I'm out here putting
- 31:06Speaker 2: in the work. What you gotta do, get on the camera.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I'm from the old school where we don't like to
- 31:10Speaker 2: talk on cameras, you know. So I was embedded with
- 31:13Speaker 2: this since a kid. So even by doing rap music
- 31:16Speaker 2: that was a little rough for me. That's why I
- 31:18Speaker 2: chose to do a lot of love songs, right because
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'm not gonna rap about street shit. If you listen
- 31:23Speaker 2: to my music, people think all he's getting but moll
- 31:26Speaker 2: my hits are love songs, radio song.
- 31:28Speaker 1: If people don't understand, like the correlation between Chicano rap
- 31:31Speaker 1: and oldies is like.
- 31:32Speaker 2: This exactly like yeah, so, and to me, I was like,
- 31:35Speaker 2: if I'm gonna do this music like in the hood,
- 31:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna rap about hood shit. But if I'm putting
- 31:40Speaker 2: this on a CD, I'm not gonna talk about Hey,
- 31:43Speaker 2: I got guns i'na dump on you. That was not
- 31:45Speaker 2: my model of rap because I really was from the streets,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm gonna say this. I've seen
- 31:50Speaker 2: people getting diet. I've seen a lot of shit go
- 31:52Speaker 2: down as a child. I mean, I got raided four
- 31:55Speaker 2: or five times, crazy tied up my mom and cuffs
- 31:58Speaker 2: my mom. You know, I've seen it all, you know.
- 32:00Speaker 2: So I've seen shootouts in front of my house, bullet holes.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So I've been through the trenches as a youngster, as
- 32:06Speaker 2: a well on the streets. So when I came to
- 32:08Speaker 2: the music game, I looked at this as like a job.
- 32:11Speaker 2: This is something definitely, I'm not gonna sell out. I'm
- 32:13Speaker 2: gonna keep it real, but I'm not gonna be here
- 32:16Speaker 2: going crazy on raps and promoting negativity and shit like that.
- 32:20Speaker 2: If other artists that I signed do that, that's on them.
- 32:23Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I'm just trying to help
- 32:25Speaker 2: you out, give you some advice, put some radio songs on,
- 32:28Speaker 2: talk about But if they still have to keep it
- 32:29Speaker 2: off their chests, if they feel like they haven't, they're
- 32:32Speaker 2: not the man yet. I get it. You know, people
- 32:34Speaker 2: usually do shit when they don't. They don't they still
- 32:37Speaker 2: need it off their chests. I figured I don't need
- 32:39Speaker 2: it off the chest.
- 32:40Speaker 1: You had said that shrig Knight had interest in signing you.
- 32:42Speaker 2: What era of death was That was early two thousand
- 32:45Speaker 2: and six seven like that, So this.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Is probably around the time like there was like the
- 32:50Speaker 1: left eye.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm trying to remember when, but I know
- 32:55Speaker 2: he was out and we connected and he came to
- 32:59Speaker 2: as Vigy. He came to He used to come to
- 33:01Speaker 2: our little apartment studio every day, chilling here, like you know,
- 33:05Speaker 2: this is what we're gonna do, game plan it. We
- 33:07Speaker 2: met with him and I think I told the story
- 33:10Speaker 2: on vlad Ones like we met with him at a
- 33:13Speaker 2: hotel might have been the Beverly Hotel. And then and
- 33:16Speaker 2: then he was like, yo, we need to represent like
- 33:19Speaker 2: you know, he Homie was pumping it like you know,
- 33:21Speaker 2: like it's just like homies doing the hood pump you up.
- 33:24Speaker 2: So he's like, we need to represent the West. That
- 33:27Speaker 2: he was like, the essays are the he was speaking facts.
- 33:30Speaker 2: The essays our biggest minority group here, they haven't gone through. Shine.
- 33:34Speaker 2: You're you're the top dog of this. We gotta get
- 33:36Speaker 2: you you like you know, like, pump you up, Pop,
- 33:39Speaker 2: you know, pop did it? Like we got woo, So like,
- 33:42Speaker 2: what's goed? Then we pulled up to a studio session
- 33:45Speaker 2: where little Wayne was at you know, crazy, and then
- 33:47Speaker 2: he's like yeah, little ways and we gotta let him
- 33:48Speaker 2: know this is our ship, you know. So we're like
- 33:50Speaker 2: I was with four or five homie. We're turned up,
- 33:52Speaker 2: you know. So we're like, boom, pull up their security.
- 33:55Speaker 2: We're like, hey, we need Wayne outside, you know. So
- 33:58Speaker 2: we're thinking we're gonna talk to Wayne about hey, you
- 34:01Speaker 2: need to represent the West with us. But as soon
- 34:03Speaker 2: as Wayne finally secure is like, look, we don't want
- 34:06Speaker 2: no problems. Wayne will talk to Shug because that was
- 34:08Speaker 2: our message to talk to Shug. So then Shug comes
- 34:11Speaker 2: and we're like, okay, let's go talk to Wayne. She
- 34:14Speaker 2: was like you guys, chill in the waiting room, you
- 34:16Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Like, So, after we did that,
- 34:18Speaker 2: then he went in. There was waiting squaring off with
- 34:20Speaker 2: the security looking at us, We're looking at them whatever.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Ten twenty minutes comes out, he comes out, ah, right,
- 34:26Speaker 2: my geez, next week we'll link up. I'm like, what
- 34:29Speaker 2: did we just do? You know what I'm saying we
- 34:30Speaker 2: were like.
- 34:31Speaker 1: A torpedo for his you use this as your bullies exactly.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yeah. So then shit started getting weird, but he was
- 34:37Speaker 2: still fucking with us. So I get it, and maybe
- 34:39Speaker 2: he had good intentions, but it didn't seem like yo,
- 34:42Speaker 2: like we ain't no suckers. I mean, you know, like
- 34:44Speaker 2: at the end of the day, we did what we
- 34:46Speaker 2: did to get Wayne to discuss what we discussed, and
- 34:49Speaker 2: then there was a couple of tests that like we
- 34:52Speaker 2: gave Sugar night to do and he was like, yeah,
- 34:54Speaker 2: I'm down, I'm down. It was one of the Phoenix
- 34:56Speaker 2: car shows. I told him, hey, you pull up to Phoenix,
- 35:00Speaker 2: get on the mic car show the new Death Throat,
- 35:03Speaker 2: you know, like we had a whole and then that
- 35:06Speaker 2: show goes like street going to be able to put
- 35:08Speaker 2: it on DVD, and he was like, all right, give
- 35:10Speaker 2: my flight, I'm down, let's do it. And then all said, hey,
- 35:12Speaker 2: this next show, next show. So it's like is he
- 35:15Speaker 2: really trying to do it or not? And he's like Okay.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Then he sat back and just anybody got a back
- 35:19Speaker 2: from me, Let's get an investor. So I get it.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Those days, we didn't know how we thought he had
- 35:23Speaker 2: the money, but he probably didn't have the money, you know,
- 35:26Speaker 2: you know.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Back in the day. I don't know if it was
- 35:28Speaker 1: your guys in the label, but I remember being at
- 35:29Speaker 1: the car show and there was like a really hot
- 35:31Speaker 1: chkin of rapper who's like ass was out all the time.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Uh rapper.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think she was a rapper.
- 35:38Speaker 2: It was like a pass out.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I feel like, like I remember her her album cover and
- 35:42Speaker 1: I just been like, damn.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Remember there's like Dazza and all these people.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I don't know about maybe, but there y'all had the
- 35:48Speaker 1: fucking models unlocked all that.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Man, this those crazy story ship back then.
- 35:52Speaker 1: If only fans just popping back then, they probably would
- 35:54Speaker 1: have been a high power only fans.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Damn, you ain't lying ship anyway.
- 36:01Speaker 1: All right, So EP's on the way. New song is out.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Yeah, new song is o't breaking down, mister Capony, break
- 36:07Speaker 2: it down. We're gonna push radio to it. We're gonna
- 36:11Speaker 2: do it the right way and hopefully in a month
- 36:13Speaker 2: or just start popping up on some stations.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And now it's dope to see you know. I mean,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I thought it was dope to see you on the
- 36:18Speaker 1: Neon because that's kind of like taking too really far
- 36:20Speaker 1: worlds and put them together.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, definitely, And you know, actually something we
- 36:24Speaker 2: got messages from labels hitting us up after that Neon thing.
- 36:27Speaker 2: For sure like that. But I do you just you
- 36:30Speaker 2: just gotta go to these meetings and I'm like, listen.
- 36:32Speaker 1: It's gonna have to answer your emails.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Yeah, let the record get hot, get to the top
- 36:37Speaker 2: right hopefully twenty ten, whatever, and then we'll we'll discuss
- 36:40Speaker 2: what we can do. But right now talking about it,
- 36:43Speaker 2: I'm an artist that knows what's up or been around.
- 36:47Speaker 2: There's no deal that I know that's gonna come to me.
- 36:49Speaker 1: That's gonna be like wow, yeah for sure. Yeah, you've
- 36:51Speaker 1: been there, you've done that. There it is man, Well,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I appreciate you pulling out there for show. Homeboy, my guy,
- 36:55Speaker 1: the Legend, the Pony, both
