- 0:00Podcastheroes.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:05to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host, Anna McGivern for December 27th.
- 0:12Today is Make Cudo Snowflakes Day, celebrating the simple art
- 0:16of folding paper and cutting patterns to create winter
- 0:19beauty. It's an activity that requires
- 0:22nothing expensive or complicated, just paper,
- 0:26scissors and imagination. Fold the paper, make some cuts,
- 0:31unfold it to discover what you've created.
- 0:33That's it. Each snowflake emerges as a
- 0:36surprise, revealing patterns you couldn't quite predict.
- 0:41The beauty is in the unpredictability.
- 0:44No2 snowflakes ever turn out the same, even when you're trying to
- 0:49replicate 1. That's not a flaw, that's magic.
- 0:53And that brings us to today's quote from Arthur Donald L
- 0:57Hicks, who captured this truth beautifully when he wrote Every
- 1:02snowflake is unique, yet they are perfect.
- 1:07Hicks observation applies to paper snowflakes and real ones.
- 1:11In nature. No2 snowflakes share identical
- 1:14patterns. Scientists have examined
- 1:17millions, and each one is different.
- 1:20When you cut paper snowflakes, the same thing happens.
- 1:23Your cuts won't match mine. They can't.
- 1:27They won't, and they shouldn't. Every fold is slightly
- 1:31different. Every angle of the scissors
- 1:34creates something new. Every snowflake that unfolds
- 1:38reveals its own pattern. Here's why this matters.
- 1:42They're all perfect. The elaborate 6 pointed one with
- 1:46intrinsic designs? Perfect.
- 1:49The simple one with just a few cuts.
- 1:52Perfect, the lopsided one where you accidentally cut too much.
- 1:57Still perfect. They're perfect because they're
- 2:00unique, not despite their differences, but because of
- 2:04them. This applies beyond paper
- 2:06crafts. We spend so much energy trying
- 2:10to match some template, some ideal, some version of what we
- 2:14think we should be. But Hicks reminds us, uniqueness
- 2:19is perfection. Your particular pattern, your
- 2:23specific cuts, your individual design, that's not a deviation
- 2:29from perfect. That is perfect.
- 2:32So today, find some paper, grab some scissors and create.
- 2:37Don't worry about making them beautiful or symmetrical or
- 2:40Instagram worthy. Just fold, cut, unfold and see
- 2:45what emerges. Each one will be different, each
- 2:48one will be unique, and according to Hicks wisdom, each
- 2:52one will be perfect. Remember this when you're
- 2:55comparing yourself to others, when you're wishing you were
- 2:58different, when you're seeing your uniqueness as a flaw rather
- 3:03than a feature. You're a snowflake, unique and
- 3:07perfect, exactly as you are. That's going to do for today.
- 3:12I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 3:16tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 3:21with another daily quote.
