- Sean Graver: So during a goal setting meeting, you told someone at work you're not really a goals person. Like that will just end the conversation. except if you've ever actually wanted something and then gone after it, you already have set a goal. You just maybe didn't call it one. Well, hey, this is Sean, and welcome back to prayer before work. I want to be clear about something first. I haven't found any verse in the Bible that commands you to write down a five year plan or a track. quarterly targets, but but if that language makes you cringe before you even try, it it's okay. You're not disobeying anything by skipping it. But there is something scripture does say pretty clearly, and it's less about the specific tool and more about how y you're actually spending your days. So the Apostle Paul writes to the church in Episodes, and this isn't a city full of distraction and competing priorities, probably not a lot different than Your inbox on a Monday morning. But in Ephesians five, starting in verse fifteen, he says, Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. So notice like what he's actually saying here. It's just just carefulness and intention about how the days actually get used. Making the best use of the time assumes that time left completely unexamined tends to slip away doing whatever's loudest or easiest in the moment rather than what actually matters. And I mean here's the reality. If you've ever wanted a promotion and like actually work towards it, y you've set a goal. If you've ever decided you, I don't know, wanted to learn a skill and and and and you put in the time. You've set a goal. So calling yourself not a goals person usually just means you haven't been specific about it. Not that you've been living without direction at all. So today, instead of asking whether you're a goals person, try asking a different question. Like, what's one thing you actually want more of, maybe six months from now? And and then what's one specific step you could take today that moves you towards it? And that's it. No system required, no goal tracking app, no framework. Don't have to force yourself into someone else's method that probably never fits you anyway. Just a little more intention than yesterday. So let's pray. God, we don't want to waste the days you've given us. know, drifting through work on autopilot and instead of actually paying attention to where we're actually headed. And and whatever tool or method actually works for how we're wired, g give us the honesty to use it and the the humility to to stop pretending that intention doesn't matter just because a certain method doesn't fit us. I mean help us make the most of the time we have today. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Go make today count.
