- 1:36Speaker 3: right around the corner getting into this here. First off,
- 1:39Speaker 3: its welcome back. Out's the off season.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if we're gonna post the video
- 1:44Speaker 2: of this, but I am in full off season mode.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Oh we see you now you play that beg quarter
- 1:49Speaker 3: zip appropriately.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I've literally upstairs to it on the couch and are
- 1:54Speaker 2: paying you?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Are they paying you now for this?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Oh no, buddy, listen, I paid I still listen, man.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I paid off my student loans four years ago.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Five years now. That's a flag gun, That's all.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But I feel will proudly, proudly fly my bowling green flag.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I love it, folks, AZUSA Pacific. I'd see if you're
- 2:19Speaker 3: just listening or watching her to this, I promise I
- 2:21Speaker 3: will have something ready here for the next turn. Of this,
- 2:23Speaker 3: all right, A lot to get to you here first,
- 2:25Speaker 3: something been jump in here from my reaction from the
- 2:27Speaker 3: draft lottery. And for the second time in the last
- 2:30Speaker 3: ten years, the Leafs missed the playoffs. For the second
- 2:34Speaker 3: time in the last ten years, they won the NHL
- 2:37Speaker 3: Draft lottery. I'm not gonna go there. You want to
- 2:40Speaker 3: talk on how lottery favoritism and all that jazz. We
- 2:44Speaker 3: have other guys here on our airwaves who have got
- 2:46Speaker 3: you covered, trust me fully on that topic. I do
- 2:49Speaker 3: want to react here with this. Did the krack and
- 2:52Speaker 3: have a chance at first overall? Sure? Did they reap
- 2:56Speaker 3: what they sewed from a roller coaster season? Absolutely? They
- 3:02Speaker 3: had the six best odds in this draft. The percentages
- 3:05Speaker 3: weren't as high as others, and we tend to see
- 3:08Speaker 3: teams who really stink this up rise to the very
- 3:11Speaker 3: top for a draft order. So what's considered as a
- 3:15Speaker 3: crown jewel draft with really three NHL ready forwards. He
- 3:20Speaker 3: also got a heavy dose of defense that you can
- 3:22Speaker 3: easily pick from. For the forward, you have Gavin McKinnon,
- 3:25Speaker 3: he's NHL ready. Ivar Stenberg many accounts saying he's NHL ready,
- 3:30Speaker 3: Caleb Malhotra by many accounts, NHL ready the defenseman or
- 3:35Speaker 3: no slats here in this draft as well, but they
- 3:37Speaker 3: tend to be two to three years away. Many projections
- 3:41Speaker 3: also have them maybe two to three years away. The
- 3:45Speaker 3: Kraken can add value to their talent pool with a
- 3:48Speaker 3: very wise pick in this case as seventh overall, but
- 3:51Speaker 3: another wise choice looking at trading the pick. GM Jason
- 3:56Speaker 3: Botterrel said last month, the aggressive approach is what they
- 3:59Speaker 3: want to do with overturning this roster. It's pretty clear
- 4:03Speaker 3: cut this will not be a rebuild, so getting the
- 4:06Speaker 3: guy two to three years away will certainly help you,
- 4:09Speaker 3: but that is two to three years away. The mission
- 4:12Speaker 3: is to win now, and we can talk about another
- 4:15Speaker 3: time as far as what merite this has with trying
- 4:17Speaker 3: to overturn a roster once again rebuild it for the
- 4:20Speaker 3: long term. All of that, the focus here is on
- 4:23Speaker 3: the draft and if you can't get a big name
- 4:25Speaker 3: via trade by June, rather than running it back, what
- 4:29Speaker 3: if you trade up and get one of those big
- 4:32Speaker 3: three forwards that we mentioned. I doubt Toronto wants to
- 4:35Speaker 3: trade out from Gavin McKenna. I doubt San Jose wants
- 4:39Speaker 3: to trade in their division with the Kraken elsewhere Canucks Blackhawks,
- 4:44Speaker 3: who knows the Getting a guy who's NHL ready, potentially
- 4:47Speaker 3: with a bright future is another step in turn of
- 4:51Speaker 3: the page to the kind of long term growth that's
- 4:54Speaker 3: healthy for this roster long term, at least for me.
- 4:58Speaker 3: That's something to think about. Fits your opening reaction here
- 5:02Speaker 3: from the draft lottery, Oh thoughts.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I think I think number one I was, I'm gonna
- 5:11Speaker 2: take my cracking hat off. Now, take my cracking hat
- 5:16Speaker 2: off real fast.
- 5:17Speaker 3: The beg hats there somewhere you can pop that too.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, my fan hat, cracking hats off. Okay, I was angry.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I was, I was throwing stuff. I was so fired
- 5:30Speaker 2: up when Toronto won. That's won the lottery. And I'm
- 5:35Speaker 2: not gonna I'm not gonna tell you what my conspiracy
- 5:37Speaker 2: theory was, but I had my own conspiracy theory. I think,
- 5:41Speaker 2: like like the rest of the hockey fans out there, Yeah,
- 5:45Speaker 2: it was like, are you kidding me? Come on, Like,
- 5:47Speaker 2: you get the lottery twice in ten years. Austin Matthews
- 5:51Speaker 2: is one. Now presumably Gavin McKinnon's gonna be the other.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I get it now, Like my cracking hat's back. On
- 5:59Speaker 2: the results of this draft lottery. When you really break
- 6:04Speaker 2: it down and when you really look at the purpose
- 6:06Speaker 2: of a draft lottery, this year, the lottery worked as
- 6:11Speaker 2: it was contended, as it was intended to work. All Right, Yes,
- 6:15Speaker 2: I understand that folks don't like the fact that Toronto
- 6:18Speaker 2: got the first overall pick. San Jose, Vancouver, Chicago, New York, Calgary, Seattle.
- 6:24Speaker 2: All those teams were in your bottom six to eight
- 6:27Speaker 2: teams in the NHL. The draft lottery is just that,
- 6:32Speaker 2: it's a lottery. It gives you an opportunity, albeit sometimes
- 6:38Speaker 2: heavily weighted if you're Vancouver and not if you're Washington. Right,
- 6:42Speaker 2: it gives you an opportunity at that number one pick.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And I understand how folks in Vancouver, folks in Detroit
- 6:49Speaker 2: who have never moved up Calgary, they've never been able
- 6:53Speaker 2: to move up. If you wanted to go based off record,
- 6:56Speaker 2: then just do what the NFL does and give you
- 6:58Speaker 2: the number one over all pick if you're the worst
- 7:01Speaker 2: record in the league. So the lottery, while unfortunately for
- 7:05Speaker 2: a lot of folks, the team that won the lottery
- 7:08Speaker 2: isn't the most popular team, the lottery worked as it
- 7:12Speaker 2: was intended to work. I mean, he gave the bottom
- 7:15Speaker 2: tier teams and opportunity to get the number one overall pick. Now,
- 7:19Speaker 2: say what you want about conspiracies and whatever. I'm not
- 7:22Speaker 2: gonna sit here and say that I believe that the
- 7:24Speaker 2: draft lottery is fixed when they want to try to
- 7:27Speaker 2: fix it and whatever. I will never ever go on
- 7:30Speaker 2: record and say something like that. However, I do think
- 7:35Speaker 2: that you're right, Mike. The Kraken have a good opportunity
- 7:38Speaker 2: here to do a lot with this pick. Now, this
- 7:41Speaker 2: is where the pick for me becomes a little bit complicated.
- 7:47Speaker 2: A lot of us know, a lot of fans know,
- 7:49Speaker 2: this isn't the NFL, this isn't the NBA. All Right,
- 7:52Speaker 2: top ten draft pick in the NFL is gonna make
- 7:55Speaker 2: twenty five to thirty million dollars. They're gonna come in immediately,
- 7:59Speaker 2: and they're gonna they're gonna have an impact. Right, most
- 8:02Speaker 2: years in the NHL, outside of your top two, outside
- 8:05Speaker 2: of your top three, you're going back to the minors.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You need more seasoning, you're going back to junior hockey,
- 8:10Speaker 2: whatever the case may be. Now, you can put a
- 8:12Speaker 2: nineteen year old in the American League, so that spot
- 8:15Speaker 2: will probably be reserved for Jcobrien next season. So for
- 8:19Speaker 2: the Kraken, yeah, there's gonna be some some good talent
- 8:23Speaker 2: available at number seven. And historically when you look at
- 8:26Speaker 2: some of the best number seven overall picks, Quinn Hughes
- 8:29Speaker 2: is on that list, Nazim Kadriy, William Ecklund, former t Bird,
- 8:34Speaker 2: Kevin Korchinski, number of guys are on that list. But
- 8:37Speaker 2: I think for me, I'm with you, partner, I don't
- 8:40Speaker 2: have a problem with trading the pick because I do
- 8:43Speaker 2: think that for Seattle there is a lot of talent
- 8:46Speaker 2: in the organization already. You want to make a sizable move.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Todd Mawiki said, a prolific offseason. You got two second
- 8:55Speaker 2: you have two first round picks. You have yours at seven,
- 8:58Speaker 2: and you have Tampa's at whatever they're gonna be, probably
- 9:01Speaker 2: twenty third, twenty fourth. I'm not gonna sit here and
- 9:04Speaker 2: say that the same guy you're gonna get at seven
- 9:08Speaker 2: is gonna be the same caliber of guy you'll get
- 9:10Speaker 2: at twenty third. But for my money, if you're outside
- 9:14Speaker 2: the top four, I don't I personally I don't need it.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I don't need it. I would rather trade that pick
- 9:23Speaker 2: for someone or some other asset that can help you
- 9:27Speaker 2: today and help you immediately. And I think the Krack
- 9:30Speaker 2: and have a lot of strong pieces in their organization
- 9:33Speaker 2: right now. I know on the blue lines a little
- 9:35Speaker 2: bit lean. But if you can get that seventh overall
- 9:39Speaker 2: pick and bring back an NHL player that can help
- 9:41Speaker 2: you starting in October, I would venture down that route.
- 9:45Speaker 2: That's not to say that that Jason and the rest
- 9:47Speaker 2: of the Crack in front office aren't going to explore
- 9:50Speaker 2: that opportunity and those avenues as well. But this is
- 9:54Speaker 2: one of those drafts you've got to first trade your seventh,
- 9:58Speaker 2: keep your twenty third, probably going to be on the
- 10:00Speaker 2: same timeline in terms of being here in the next
- 10:03Speaker 2: two to three years anyway. Again, I know the talent
- 10:06Speaker 2: is going to be different, but it's not like you
- 10:09Speaker 2: trade the number two overall pick. You traded seven. And
- 10:11Speaker 2: from a lot of folks, I've read a lot and
- 10:14Speaker 2: listened and watched a lot of the draft experts. Once
- 10:17Speaker 2: you get out of that top four, top five, you're
- 10:21Speaker 2: looking at guys who are still going to be a
- 10:23Speaker 2: couple of years away, two to three years away.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And when you get to this what does aggressive mean?
- 10:28Speaker 3: It means trying to go for something drastically different. You
- 10:32Speaker 3: can go in different directions, but it means either trading
- 10:34Speaker 3: for somebody who's going to help you now on this
- 10:37Speaker 3: roster for this next season, or trading up to find
- 10:40Speaker 3: somebody who's going to be NHL ready off the bat
- 10:44Speaker 3: and help you from day one and grow into potentially
- 10:48Speaker 3: a star role. Now what will that cost. It's gonna
- 10:51Speaker 3: cost a seventh overall pick to get that done. The
- 10:54Speaker 3: Crack can also have a deep stable of draft picks
- 10:56Speaker 3: that they can easily deal from coming up here. They
- 10:59Speaker 3: have two first rounders in this draft, they have a
- 11:02Speaker 3: second rounder in this year's draft. They have two first
- 11:05Speaker 3: rounders in twenty twenty seven. They have two second rounders
- 11:08Speaker 3: as well in twenty twenty seven. So when you talk
- 11:11Speaker 3: about so many pieces that you can play with, there
- 11:15Speaker 3: is potentially an attractive package to bring somebody in. And
- 11:19Speaker 3: if you can bring somebody in already that's a season
- 11:22Speaker 3: veteran making a lot of money, Well, guess what cat
- 11:25Speaker 3: just went up and you have twenty eight million dollars
- 11:28Speaker 3: here to deal with. Of course, assuming that you take
- 11:31Speaker 3: care of a guy named Bobby McMahon, he'll get the bag,
- 11:34Speaker 3: but still plenty of money coming out the books here
- 11:37Speaker 3: to get this done. Everett.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think too that that also goes into
- 11:43Speaker 2: this this prolific, major offseason that we're talking about. Right.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I've said this for a long time. You need to
- 11:52Speaker 2: be prepared, and I think I I we have no
- 11:56Speaker 2: choice but to believe management and ownership what they say.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You have to be ready to make that potentially unpopular decision.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Right there are a number of players on the current
- 12:08Speaker 2: roster right now who other teams have expressed interest in
- 12:13Speaker 2: and who have got some talks around during the trade deadline.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You need to be willing potentially to let some of
- 12:20Speaker 2: those players go. You look at all the prospects, a
- 12:23Speaker 2: ton of prospects, a ton of kids, a ton of
- 12:25Speaker 2: guys that people are high on in your minor league system,
- 12:29Speaker 2: in your junior prospect pool stable like you mentioned about, Hey,
- 12:33Speaker 2: if somebody really likes prospect X and we're gonna give
- 12:37Speaker 2: you NHL player why back, you need to be ready
- 12:41Speaker 2: to make that move. There's a number, like I said,
- 12:43Speaker 2: a couple of guys on the crack and current roster
- 12:46Speaker 2: right now that you need to potentially be willing to
- 12:49Speaker 2: listen on conversations with and this is where I think
- 12:52Speaker 2: a lot of the fans are. You know, this is
- 12:55Speaker 2: the best. One of my favorite parts about this job
- 12:58Speaker 2: is working for Seattle and working for a team with
- 13:01Speaker 2: a brand new fan base, and you're still learning some
- 13:04Speaker 2: of the nuances and some of the you know, the
- 13:08Speaker 2: underlying things about this sport. You know, a lot of
- 13:12Speaker 2: folks bought their very first jersey, the very first hockey
- 13:15Speaker 2: jersey was a crack in jersey. Some of their favorite players.
- 13:18Speaker 2: You know that the first hockey player I ever rooted
- 13:21Speaker 2: for is on this team. And you're getting to a
- 13:23Speaker 2: point now where a lot of those guys are either
- 13:26Speaker 2: coming up on a contract or you're gonna maybe need
- 13:28Speaker 2: to turn the page on that first generation of Seattle
- 13:32Speaker 2: Kraken players and start moving forward. So that's what I
- 13:36Speaker 2: mean by hard decisions. There's gonna be some fan favorites
- 13:39Speaker 2: whose name come up. There's gonna be some guys that
- 13:42Speaker 2: you know are pretty good. There's gonna be some prospects
- 13:45Speaker 2: that we all like, and all of that. Nothing can
- 13:48Speaker 2: be off the table. I think for me, I probably
- 13:51Speaker 2: have two or three what I would call untouchables, But
- 13:55Speaker 2: other than that, I mean, if I'm Jason Boschril, if
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm the rest of this management group, I need to
- 13:59Speaker 2: listen to everything. Everything's out there. I can always say no,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I can always say no, but I need to be
- 14:06Speaker 2: ready and prepared to listen to every offer and make
- 14:11Speaker 2: potentially an unpopular choice that will you know better this
- 14:18Speaker 2: hockey Club for the future.
- 14:19Speaker 3: UFA's coming up here for this summer, Jayden Schwartz, Ellie Tulvenan,
- 14:23Speaker 3: of course, Bobby McMahon. That's some big fish that we're
- 14:26Speaker 3: talking about. Jamie Alexiak as well on the back end,
- 14:29Speaker 3: goaltender Matt Murray all a part of it. And then
- 14:32Speaker 3: the contract years coming up, Jared McCann as well, along
- 14:36Speaker 3: with Vince Dunn, Josh Mahura and Cale Flurry among those,
- 14:41Speaker 3: and goaltender Philip Grubauer all on top of that. And
- 14:44Speaker 3: one more thing too.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You talk about the UFAs coming up, Bobby McMahon for
- 14:48Speaker 2: one of them for Seattle. This year's UFA class is
- 14:53Speaker 2: not a strong class. I think you're looking at Bobby
- 14:57Speaker 2: hey Ben, You're looking at Bobby McMahon here in Seattle.
- 15:01Speaker 2: You're looking at Alex Tuck in Buffalo. That's all I'm
- 15:05Speaker 2: willing to say, right, those are going to be your
- 15:08Speaker 2: big fish on the free agency market. Now, there are
- 15:12Speaker 2: guys out there. Jason Robertson in Dallas, He's gonna won
- 15:16Speaker 2: a pretty big ticket, you know. I heard someone even
- 15:20Speaker 2: say that Nikita Kucherov, if they can't get a deal
- 15:23Speaker 2: done with Cooch in Tampa, he potentially I don't think
- 15:27Speaker 2: Cooch is going anywhere, but right.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Definitely solves your problem.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, solve your problem. I don't think he's going anywhere.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'll bet money on that. I'm not allowed to bet.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I work for an angel, but if I was, I
- 15:38Speaker 2: bet money on that. So there are pieces out there,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and that's and that's why I think you need to
- 15:46Speaker 2: start preparing for those trades to come down. You need
- 15:50Speaker 2: to start preparing for, Hey, this guy will not be
- 15:54Speaker 2: here next year. This guy's got a year or two
- 15:57Speaker 2: left on his contracts, he will not be here next
- 16:00Speaker 2: next year. There are a couple of guys that fit
- 16:02Speaker 2: that exact same qualification on this crack and roster that
- 16:07Speaker 2: you need to be ready to part with because the
- 16:09Speaker 2: UFA market, if you're looking for sizeable change, seismic change
- 16:15Speaker 2: on this roster, it's not coming from the open market.
- 16:18Speaker 3: This is all part of the prolific offseason that we
- 16:21Speaker 3: heard about from this last month, and we're talking about that.
- 16:23Speaker 3: We're going to get to here as we get deeper
- 16:25Speaker 3: into this offseason. Change has already happened. The coaching staff
- 16:29Speaker 3: has seen the departures of Jessica Campbell also Adam Perner
- 16:32Speaker 3: on the video coach. So we'll get to some more
- 16:34Speaker 3: of this reaction here as we get more changes potentially
- 16:38Speaker 3: a foot as they come in the oncoming weeks here,
- 16:40Speaker 3: but certainly matters are already underway all right. The WHL
- 16:44Speaker 3: Championship Series opening up in Everett, not Everett, Fitzhu's house
- 16:49Speaker 3: Angel the Winds Arena, the home of the Everetts Silver
- 16:51Speaker 3: Tips coming up for Game one on Friday night, Silver
- 16:54Speaker 3: Tips and Prince Albert Raiders, and the best of seven
- 16:57Speaker 3: matcha basically one two decide the WHL champion and two
- 17:02Speaker 3: the WHL bid for the Memorial Cup that going down
- 17:07Speaker 3: in Kelowna. The Silver Tips seeking their first title in
- 17:11Speaker 3: franchise history, the Prince Albert Raiders seeking their first title
- 17:15Speaker 3: since twenty nineteen when they beat the Vancouver Giants. And
- 17:19Speaker 3: a big piece of this is silvertip center Julius Meetnam,
- 17:24Speaker 3: also a crack and draft pick second rounder back in
- 17:27Speaker 3: twenty twenty four. My goodness, how much he has grown,
- 17:31Speaker 3: My goodness, how much he has filled out, and now
- 17:33Speaker 3: he has taken on the role not just a score
- 17:36Speaker 3: and a go to guy on their top line, but
- 17:38Speaker 3: also a face off behemoth. Here's our conversation back from
- 17:41Speaker 3: Angel with the Winds Arena Julius Maetan, and thank you
- 17:44Speaker 3: very much here for doing this first off. Is it
- 17:46Speaker 3: hit you yet that this could be your last month
- 17:49Speaker 3: here in this building as a player?
- 17:51Speaker 2: No?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Not, Actually, that's that's kind of crazy to think about that.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I've been here for three years and this could be
- 17:58Speaker 4: last month or probably will be.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I remember back in twenty eighteen when they were last
- 18:04Speaker 3: in this round facing the Swift Current Broncos, and just
- 18:07Speaker 3: how loud and how electrifying the buildings sounded for that
- 18:12Speaker 3: playoff series. What's the lettus that you've heard this building
- 18:14Speaker 3: so far in this postseason run.
- 18:17Speaker 4: I think last series against Penticton was a game two
- 18:21Speaker 4: over time that.
- 18:23Speaker 3: The place was going. It was loud, it was really loud.
- 18:26Speaker 3: You spent three years wearing green as far as a
- 18:29Speaker 3: jersey in this town. You only needed one WHL season
- 18:33Speaker 3: before proving that the NHL draft was ready for you.
- 18:37Speaker 3: What part of your game has taken the biggest step
- 18:40Speaker 3: over the course of the last three years.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I would say skating. Skating was a big thing. It's
- 18:46Speaker 4: still a big thing for me. I'm a big guy.
- 18:48Speaker 4: I have to get moving. But coming here from a
- 18:53Speaker 4: big guys, you have a lot more room. You got
- 18:55Speaker 4: a lot more time to gather speed. But here you
- 18:58Speaker 4: just gotta be back and forth, back and forth. Conditioning,
- 19:00Speaker 4: it's it's still the thing. But that's that's being the
- 19:04Speaker 4: two biggest things.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I'll get into the conditioning part because it's very very
- 19:07Speaker 3: interesting as far as how players go about it here
- 19:10Speaker 3: at this stage. And you got a long way to go,
- 19:11Speaker 3: of course, going through the minor leagues before the NHL
- 19:14Speaker 3: ranks also come calling your name here. But two years
- 19:17Speaker 3: have pass since the Kraken took you back in the
- 19:19Speaker 3: second round. Having an NHL team just thirty minutes away.
- 19:23Speaker 3: How much has that meant to you and for your development?
- 19:25Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's it's just been awesome. I mean,
- 19:28Speaker 4: I get to go to the games whenever I want.
- 19:30Speaker 4: It's just a forty five minute drive and they're here
- 19:33Speaker 4: almost every week to see me. If I have something
- 19:36Speaker 4: to ass they're here, we can talk, and then they
- 19:40Speaker 4: just give me everything that I need.
- 19:41Speaker 3: What's the last great Kraken game that you saw live?
- 19:45Speaker 3: I can tell you've seen plenty here because you're having
- 19:47Speaker 3: to go deep into the memory. Basic yea, I remember
- 19:49Speaker 3: my first ever. That was a good one.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I went to overtime against Calgary and they won that game.
- 19:54Speaker 4: But I wasn't even drafted yet, so that was that
- 19:57Speaker 4: was kind of cool, going into a game like looking
- 19:59Speaker 4: at it like wow, oh what a life decision. Then
- 20:01Speaker 4: getting drafted.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I remember even you know, back ten years ago when
- 20:04Speaker 3: the NHL was a pipe dream for this kind of town.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Now you've got an NHL team in your backyard. Just
- 20:11Speaker 3: looking at this year from the WHL scope of things,
- 20:13Speaker 3: when it comes to trying to, you know, lure players
- 20:15Speaker 3: here and they're thinking about WHL that route versus a
- 20:18Speaker 3: different route, how much a bit of a difference does
- 20:20Speaker 3: it make having an NHL team in your own back.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Gad, it's huge for sure. I mean, coming to Everett,
- 20:26Speaker 4: there is an NHL team forty minutes away. You know
- 20:29Speaker 4: that you get to go to a game. There's gonna
- 20:31Speaker 4: be Seattle scouts here every night to see play. Yeah,
- 20:35Speaker 4: it's just huge for junior hockey players and Norman. There
- 20:38Speaker 4: is a team close.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Caitlin Parker a part of this, Corey Murphy a big
- 20:42Speaker 3: part of this, Franz Nielsen as well. How much have
- 20:45Speaker 3: they meant for you and your growth? Oh so much,
- 20:48Speaker 3: so much.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I talk with KP probably every week, Murph we have
- 20:54Speaker 4: when we talk, we have long conversations. And then France
- 20:57Speaker 4: we have a zoom meeting every month, may be everyone
- 21:00Speaker 4: once in two weeks, and uh yeah, I just get
- 21:03Speaker 4: so much out of them, Like they just they know
- 21:07Speaker 4: all what hockey like. They're the guys you want on
- 21:09Speaker 4: your side.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Face offs are very much a big thing as far
- 21:12Speaker 3: as the position that you play at center. We've heard
- 21:15Speaker 3: from you know, Franz, We've heard from Caitlin Parker and
- 21:18Speaker 3: more about how much it matters and what you've got
- 21:21Speaker 3: to work on here at this level. So how much
- 21:23Speaker 3: have you learned about the kind of technique that you
- 21:25Speaker 3: need to succeed now versus what you will have to
- 21:27Speaker 3: learn once you turn pro.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Yeah, well, here I would say I'm like probably the
- 21:31Speaker 4: biggest guy on the draws, I can outpower the guys,
- 21:35Speaker 4: but going to the next level, I'll be an average
- 21:37Speaker 4: sized guy. Like, of course, I'll still have my size,
- 21:40Speaker 4: but there's gonna be big guys to go against. So
- 21:43Speaker 4: you just got to find ways to win the draws.
- 21:45Speaker 4: A lot of small details. It's it's just chess game.
- 21:48Speaker 4: You're playing chess against other guy. You got to see
- 21:50Speaker 4: what he's gonna do and try to out smart him.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Jonathan Daves, Sydney Crosby, Nicohescher are one of the names
- 21:58Speaker 3: who have excelled at that kind of chess. Gained this
- 22:01Speaker 3: faced off guys in the NHL. Who have you looked
- 22:03Speaker 3: up to for your position and for that area of
- 22:06Speaker 3: your game as well?
- 22:07Speaker 4: Tays he has been always my favorite bread player. I
- 22:10Speaker 4: grew out watching Chicago and of course he was there
- 22:13Speaker 4: with Kaner, so yeah, he's always been my favorite. I mean,
- 22:18Speaker 4: he's so good at druss.
- 22:20Speaker 3: He's just the best, almost, he could say. Julius Miettan
- 22:23Speaker 3: and joining us here. As we get close to the
- 22:24Speaker 3: WHL Championship Series, the Everest Silver Tips taken on the
- 22:27Speaker 3: Prince Albert Raiders, and you hear a lot about how
- 22:29Speaker 3: you train, how you eat, how you sleep, and it
- 22:32Speaker 3: really gets drilled into guys here at this level. First off,
- 22:36Speaker 3: what's your ideal game day routine for what you eat? Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks,
- 22:41Speaker 3: all that in between.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I usually wake up around eight thirty five. We
- 22:46Speaker 4: leave at nine, so have a breakfast. Usually try to
- 22:49Speaker 4: get a lot of food in me before before morning skate.
- 22:53Speaker 4: After morning skate, I usually have a snack like a
- 22:55Speaker 4: breeder or something. I drink, I go home, I have
- 22:58Speaker 4: a lunch and not for one to two hours. See
- 23:02Speaker 4: how much I need to snap that day. Wake up
- 23:06Speaker 4: a big meal, a lot of food, a lot of carbs,
- 23:10Speaker 4: and then during the game just snack, snack whatever's available,
- 23:15Speaker 4: honey like whatever to get a lot of sugars, and
- 23:19Speaker 4: then after the game just whatever you can get.
- 23:22Speaker 3: So here's a million dollar question. If you can just
- 23:24Speaker 3: guess how many calories do you think that you consume
- 23:27Speaker 3: per day when it comes to a game day. Oh yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 3: that's a lot, a lots of very good start.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I would go like six to seven thousand.
- 23:38Speaker 3: So if calories don't count for one day, what are
- 23:40Speaker 3: you eating? What's your cheat meal? Anything?
- 23:43Speaker 4: That's a hard one that's a hard one. I like sushi,
- 23:46Speaker 4: but that's I wouldn't say that's a cheat meal though.
- 23:49Speaker 4: McDonald's always good. McDonald donald always good, going for the
- 23:52Speaker 4: big nac Yeah, but back home it's better though, really Yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 4: So what difference.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Does it make back home versus the US version of McDonald's.
- 24:01Speaker 4: I feel the food is more fresh back really, like
- 24:03Speaker 4: it comes in the same day and then they like
- 24:05Speaker 4: actually make it.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I feel like here it's all how much do you
- 24:08Speaker 3: miss that part of where you grow up, where a
- 24:09Speaker 3: lot of things are basically consumed fresh and you're starting
- 24:12Speaker 3: over and over day after day versus you know around here.
- 24:15Speaker 3: You know, you can obviously pack it in as far
- 24:17Speaker 3: as the calories, but things are often filled the preservatives
- 24:20Speaker 3: and a lot of artificial things that go into food
- 24:22Speaker 3: as well.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, of course it's a lot harder to
- 24:26Speaker 4: get them from here. But I try to eat healthy.
- 24:28Speaker 4: I try to find the best things for me that
- 24:31Speaker 4: can make me a pro player. And that's a big
- 24:34Speaker 4: thing for my billets. They do an awesome job with that.
- 24:37Speaker 3: When it comes to sleep, you know, you have the
- 24:39Speaker 3: bus routine and often for tot you know, for guys,
- 24:42Speaker 3: it's hard to try to find a way to, you know,
- 24:44Speaker 3: lay down, get what feels like a good night's sleep,
- 24:47Speaker 3: especially when you're having to travel about you know, six
- 24:50Speaker 3: seven hours. The average bus ride from Kelowna or camb
- 24:53Speaker 3: Bloops and back is not easy, and then obviously gets longer.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I should go to the Eastern conference here. But I
- 24:58Speaker 3: mean this is the part where I'm jealous. You guys
- 25:01Speaker 3: have a serious upgrade now in your bus accommodation, so
- 25:04Speaker 3: you know, take us back through that there's less lying
- 25:06Speaker 3: down I would imagine here and all, you know the
- 25:08Speaker 3: amenities as well, but what kind of bus do you
- 25:11Speaker 3: have and how does that help you recover as well?
- 25:13Speaker 4: I mean, the boss is awesome. We have really good
- 25:16Speaker 4: seats in the bus. I don't know about the rookie
- 25:18Speaker 4: said they still might need to double up. There's not
- 25:21Speaker 4: that much phase up front. But I got a good sleep, Useler.
- 25:24Speaker 4: In the bus, I just try to close my eyes
- 25:27Speaker 4: and put my phone away. It might take an hour
- 25:28Speaker 4: or two, but I usually get there.
- 25:30Speaker 3: So what's the bus ride like going all the way
- 25:32Speaker 3: out to Brandon and back. Well, if I love that,
- 25:37Speaker 3: by the way, the.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Story here, yeah, Well, if it's a twenty hour bus drive.
- 25:40Speaker 4: There's a lot included in that. So usually you just
- 25:43Speaker 4: start the first couple hours of the guys just talking, talking, talking.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Then you go on your phone and at some point
- 25:49Speaker 4: you're like wow, like we're eight hours, and then we
- 25:51Speaker 4: got twelve hours ago, and then you just go on
- 25:54Speaker 4: the floor and just shy to sleep. You might get
- 25:57Speaker 4: three hours and then you still have seven hours left, but.
- 26:00Speaker 3: So then you're not easily lying back in captain chairs.
- 26:02Speaker 3: You were still trying to find a way to lay down,
- 26:04Speaker 3: put a mattress on the floor, and find some way
- 26:06Speaker 3: to knock yourself out for about yeah, seven eight nine hours.
- 26:09Speaker 3: When it comes to what with you being at home,
- 26:12Speaker 3: how much sleep do you need per night to feel
- 26:15Speaker 3: like you're at your best.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I usually go for nine twenty nine and a half,
- 26:20Speaker 4: but at minimum I always get an eight hour sleeping.
- 26:23Speaker 4: That's that's what I need.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Name one piece of gear for training or recovery that
- 26:28Speaker 3: you don't own yet but you would like to own.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Norm attacks really air pressure. I don't own them. We
- 26:36Speaker 3: haven't just worked then, so.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I don't know what the real technique in them is,
- 26:43Speaker 4: but like they pump pressure in your legs and then
- 26:48Speaker 4: the blood comes solid or something. I'm not flow and
- 26:52Speaker 4: blood pressure something like that, and it helps a lot.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Give me something here. As far as your guys on
- 26:57Speaker 3: the ice, on Land and DuPont, how much since he
- 27:00Speaker 3: meant to this team, and who does he remind you
- 27:02Speaker 3: of in the NHL?
- 27:05Speaker 4: Well, at start, I think he's the best team man
- 27:07Speaker 4: in the league. He's he's the best, like doing this
- 27:12Speaker 4: at age of sixteen, Like I don't know who does this.
- 27:15Speaker 4: He's an awesome guy. He's a huge part of our team.
- 27:20Speaker 4: And as NHL guy, I would say macarr, but there's
- 27:25Speaker 4: still some like something about him that I think makes
- 27:27Speaker 4: him even better.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Whatd shock you to see him not go first overall
- 27:31Speaker 3: next year?
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:34Speaker 3: The Silver Tips team is loaded. You land a DuPont,
- 27:37Speaker 3: there's Carter Bear, there's Terrence Smith and the guy who
- 27:40Speaker 3: might get drafted soon and Matias van Hannen as well.
- 27:43Speaker 3: What's the most important thing that your coach, Steve Hamilton
- 27:45Speaker 3: has taught you as far as maneuvering through a long season,
- 27:49Speaker 3: but packing up the amount of wins that you have
- 27:52Speaker 3: packed and piled up here.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I mean he always tells that we're skilled, but the
- 27:56Speaker 4: way we win games is how we work, how we
- 27:58Speaker 4: play together. We just work the guys on nice and
- 28:01Speaker 4: then the skill comes up when we need it.
- 28:03Speaker 3: When's the last time he was seeing Steve disappointed? Was
- 28:06Speaker 3: with you with somebody else on the bench? Like, what
- 28:07Speaker 3: does it take to to really make him disappointed on
- 28:10Speaker 3: the bench?
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:12Speaker 4: I don't know if I have seem like that on
- 28:14Speaker 4: the bench sometimes?
- 28:15Speaker 3: What about practice?
- 28:15Speaker 4: Also practice there might be here and there he might
- 28:19Speaker 4: get a little angry, but like usually on the ice,
- 28:23Speaker 4: he's he's really calm or on the bench, but during
- 28:26Speaker 4: their emissions he might get a little feasty sometimes, but
- 28:30Speaker 4: I think he he keeps like sole calm.
- 28:34Speaker 2: It's just calm.
- 28:35Speaker 3: So being three rounds down and now one round to go?
- 28:38Speaker 3: What would a championship mean to you? This dressing room
- 28:41Speaker 3: and this town?
- 28:43Speaker 4: For me, it's a dream. I've been here for three years.
- 28:47Speaker 4: I wanted to play in the finals for every game
- 28:50Speaker 4: I've been here. For the team, it's just how close
- 28:54Speaker 4: we have been. It would be cherry on the cake.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I just to finish it with the championship, going to
- 29:01Speaker 4: Memorial a Cup and for the talent of Everett, I
- 29:04Speaker 4: think it means it means a lot they haven't had
- 29:07Speaker 4: a cop yet, and I hope we can bring.
- 29:09Speaker 3: It here that dressing room in your corner. You've got
- 29:11Speaker 3: this town in your corner. You've got the Seattle Crack
- 29:14Speaker 3: and in their fan base also in your corner as well,
- 29:16Speaker 3: and they can't wait here for what's next. Julius, good luck, you,
- 29:19Speaker 3: appreciate you, thank you, My goodness. What a conversation with
- 29:22Speaker 3: Julius Miett. And in twenty years of age and a
- 29:24Speaker 3: strong grasp as well of the English language. It's awfully
- 29:28Speaker 3: hard to come over from overseas and you know, learn
- 29:30Speaker 3: a new culture, learn a new language. But there's just
- 29:34Speaker 3: a high degree of confidence that he carries with his
- 29:38Speaker 3: body language, not just which dictates the kind of person
- 29:42Speaker 3: he is, but certainly can make a big difference for
- 29:44Speaker 3: the kind of player that he can turn into. Assertiveness
- 29:48Speaker 3: I think is a good word to describe his game.
- 29:50Speaker 3: And based on his size already six foot, he said
- 29:54Speaker 3: he's one of the bigger boys now in this league,
- 29:56Speaker 3: but he's going to be having to play a big
- 29:58Speaker 3: boy type of game against big boy type of players
- 30:01Speaker 3: in the pro ranks, so already one being aware of
- 30:04Speaker 3: that very critical as ever, I fits he's back now
- 30:07Speaker 3: for the conversation. But as well as faceoffs, it's always
- 30:10Speaker 3: been a big issue here for this team. You mention
- 30:14Speaker 3: Jonathan Taves, a guy that he loved to watch growing
- 30:17Speaker 3: up in one of the biggest face off players of
- 30:20Speaker 3: this generation. So he's gonna be a guy to watch,
- 30:23Speaker 3: Dax and Rudolph. I think it could be taken high,
- 30:25Speaker 3: maybe even fall to seven for the krakend On Prince
- 30:29Speaker 3: Albert on their blue line. He's a guy to watch
- 30:31Speaker 3: here Landon DuPont by many accounts, cansensus first overall pick
- 30:35Speaker 3: coming in twenty twenty seven. But for local folks, Julius
- 30:40Speaker 3: Miettinen is the main course I think of this championship round.
- 30:44Speaker 3: He's gonna be fun to watch. But additionally, the Tips
- 30:47Speaker 3: have never won a championship and they're now they're four
- 30:50Speaker 3: more wins away from doing something they haven't done before,
- 30:54Speaker 3: which would just send a large degree of shock waves
- 30:58Speaker 3: all across the pace NW hockey landscape.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be great, man. I think anytime that you
- 31:05Speaker 2: can bring championships to your area, obviously it is. It
- 31:09Speaker 2: is great for that team's fan base. It's great for
- 31:12Speaker 2: those players of course, because you want your guys to
- 31:16Speaker 2: have success. It doesn't I don't care what level. I
- 31:18Speaker 2: don't care if you win the U seven Pee wee
- 31:21Speaker 2: tournament or you win the Stanley Cup. Right, there's something
- 31:24Speaker 2: about winning. You know how to win, you know how
- 31:27Speaker 2: to lose, and having those experiences are great and I
- 31:30Speaker 2: think you know you're right. Let's staying to a guy
- 31:32Speaker 2: that's got the grasp of the game that he does.
- 31:35Speaker 2: He's he's very self aware and a lot of players
- 31:39Speaker 2: in this cracking organization were either former captains other places,
- 31:42Speaker 2: they were leaders other places. They understand their role, they
- 31:46Speaker 2: know how and what they need to do to succeed
- 31:49Speaker 2: at this level. So it was very refreshing to hear
- 31:51Speaker 2: that conversation from him. But you know, the tips winning
- 31:54Speaker 2: this thing, I mean, that would just be huge. That
- 31:56Speaker 2: would send I mean the t Burds a couple of
- 31:58Speaker 2: years ago, right, they won the dub and then they
- 32:00Speaker 2: went to the Memorial Cup as well.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Member, Now you can have.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Both teams on either side of the Sound, either end
- 32:06Speaker 2: of the Sound, winning Western League championships in a what
- 32:09Speaker 2: three four year spam And now with the NHL team here,
- 32:13Speaker 2: you just announced a brand new rinkover in Kirkland the
- 32:16Speaker 2: Kraken did. That's coming in a couple of years as
- 32:18Speaker 2: youth hockey and rec league hockey and curling and figure
- 32:23Speaker 2: skating and all these ice sports that weren't here in
- 32:26Speaker 2: the numbers that they are now six seven years ago.
- 32:29Speaker 2: So it's only gonna do wonders for this area, for
- 32:34Speaker 2: this community to see another team like the Tips that
- 32:38Speaker 2: grassroot youth level. Right, we talked so much about wanting
- 32:42Speaker 2: to grow hockey at the youth level. And yes, it's
- 32:45Speaker 2: great to see the Matt Eveneers of the worlds. Great
- 32:47Speaker 2: to see those guys succeed in having success here in
- 32:51Speaker 2: Seattle for the Kracking. But when you can go to
- 32:53Speaker 2: a Tips or a TA Birds game and you can
- 32:55Speaker 2: see that sixteen year old land in DuPont, that's seventeen,
- 32:58Speaker 2: that twenty year old right being homegrown right here in
- 33:02Speaker 2: the P ANDW and ultimately succeed and achieve their NHL dream.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I'm still counting down the days of the first junior
- 33:11Speaker 2: Kraken prospect that signs and goes plays for the Tips
- 33:16Speaker 2: or the t Birds, goes plays college hockey at UAF
- 33:20Speaker 2: and then goes to the NHL. Right, you have your
- 33:22Speaker 2: first ever P and W trained and educated, born bred prospect.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I'm waiting for that moment to come. But looking forward,
- 33:31Speaker 2: we'll be there that we'll be there for game one
- 33:35Speaker 2: for the Tips and then the PA Raiders, so I'm
- 33:37Speaker 2: excited for that game.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Similar Elesean Jose's already got their kind of guy from
- 33:41Speaker 3: a Graspers standpoint in Macklin celebrating the crack and can
- 33:44Speaker 3: only hope one of theirs is coming years out there.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Wes is doing skating right now on on Tuesdays, and
- 33:52Speaker 2: there's like a learned to Play class right at the
- 33:56Speaker 2: same time, so we'll watch the last fifteen minutes have
- 34:00Speaker 2: learned to play when he's done. I'm telling you right
- 34:03Speaker 2: now there is a Maclin Celebrini up in Casey. I
- 34:07Speaker 2: promise you right now, there is a Maclin Celebrini in
- 34:11Speaker 2: the making right here in Seattle. From what I've seen
- 34:14Speaker 2: from some of these kids.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Game one again tomorrow night at Angel of the Winds
- 34:19Speaker 3: Arena seven o'clock. Game two is Saturday. Sunday is a
- 34:23Speaker 3: travel day, and then Game three, four and then if
- 34:25Speaker 3: necessary five and Prince Albert before Game six and seven
- 34:30Speaker 3: if necessary, back and Everett series due to end on
- 34:33Speaker 3: May eighteenth.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I gotta ask you, so you you were a former Tip,
- 34:37Speaker 2: you rode those buses? Right?
- 34:38Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 34:39Speaker 2: Brother? First of all, how far is PA from Everett?
- 34:42Speaker 3: I don't know how far it is? And like, what
- 34:44Speaker 3: do you what do you mean?
- 34:46Speaker 2: We're gonna play Friday Saturday, I'm gonna drive fifteen hours
- 34:50Speaker 2: on Sunday and then I'm gonna go play Monday.
- 34:53Speaker 3: So so here's something we we we also should should
- 34:56Speaker 3: disclose here on this podcast we talk with Julius meet
- 35:00Speaker 3: about this. I mean, the the Tips have an unbelievable bus.
- 35:04Speaker 3: By the way, It's like basically first class seats front
- 35:07Speaker 3: to back. I'm supremely jealous. Never had that in my career.
- 35:11Speaker 3: You would have been the talk of the league. If
- 35:13Speaker 3: you had this back whl ehl, you would have been
- 35:16Speaker 3: through these ranks, et cetera.
- 35:18Speaker 2: We had those, We had those those artists sleeping sleeper buses.
- 35:23Speaker 2: We had like the twenty bunk sleepers we even love
- 35:27Speaker 2: that we didn't have when I was traveling in Sincy,
- 35:30Speaker 2: we had those long music tour buses.
- 35:33Speaker 3: So I want to say, if you're going from first
- 35:36Speaker 3: off from Everett to Prince Albert, drive time I'm looking
- 35:42Speaker 3: this up right now as we record this dot dot
- 35:44Speaker 3: dot dot d. It's about roughly a twenty one hour drive.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Here. So that's where this conversation turns. You're not allowed
- 35:55Speaker 3: to fly in WHL until you get to the WHL
- 36:01Speaker 3: Championship Series. Okay, we actually had a chartered plane through
- 36:05Speaker 3: the league back in twenty eighteen. This is what made
- 36:08Speaker 3: it fun because they had a chartered plane. Swift Current
- 36:12Speaker 3: had home ie advantage, so they just flew the Tips
- 36:15Speaker 3: out just by themselves, all of us out to Swift
- 36:18Speaker 3: Current for game one and two, then brought both teams
- 36:22Speaker 3: on the same plane back for three, four and five.
- 36:27Speaker 3: In Evert Now there's a bit of a buffer zone,
- 36:29Speaker 3: if you will. So front of the plane is all
- 36:32Speaker 3: Silvertips players, coaches, staff and the like, a buffer zone
- 36:35Speaker 3: of WHL staff, and then at the very back. I
- 36:38Speaker 3: use this as an example, the Swift Current Broncos were
- 36:41Speaker 3: in the very back. Last I heard. It's unsure if
- 36:46Speaker 3: the Silver Tips will use a charter or if they're
- 36:49Speaker 3: going to fly commercial. From what I gathered, Prince Albert's
- 36:52Speaker 3: got something up on social media. They've already flown into
- 36:55Speaker 3: town here. I believe they flew commercial and they had
- 36:57Speaker 3: a layover in Calgary. So bottom line, as you're allowed
- 37:01Speaker 3: to fly, I'm glad that. I'm glad.
- 37:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Of course common sense takes takes over here in this
- 37:06Speaker 3: case because you only have one day in between games
- 37:08Speaker 3: two and three.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It's not even common sense. It's safety.
- 37:11Speaker 3: It's players safety.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I'm not gonna sit here and say
- 37:16Speaker 2: that you know we're slumming it, especially up here at
- 37:19Speaker 2: the NHL. We are there is the definition of slumming it.
- 37:23Speaker 3: I will never complain of travel in the NHL for
- 37:25Speaker 3: US lot.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Our idea of slumming it is the fact that the
- 37:30Speaker 2: airports in Denver and Edmonton are thirty five minutes away
- 37:34Speaker 2: from the hotel. That's slumming it, all right, So you'll
- 37:38Speaker 2: never hear me complain.
- 37:39Speaker 3: But you want to make it to the big league,
- 37:41Speaker 3: something to look.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Exactly right for exactly but no, I mean player safety.
- 37:48Speaker 2: You can't be busting twenty one hours a day and
- 37:51Speaker 2: then I mean you're gonna stop and practice somewhere, you
- 37:54Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like and bus the product isn't
- 37:56Speaker 2: as good. So I'm hoping they fly, but I'll never forget.
- 37:58Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, I went out CV to
- 38:01Speaker 2: Coachella Valley with their team on their finals run when
- 38:04Speaker 2: they lost to Hershey, and it was me, it was
- 38:06Speaker 2: Marcus Allen, it was Austin from our production team. So
- 38:11Speaker 2: we went down to Coachella. We flew with the team
- 38:14Speaker 2: out to Hershey. Now, had the Firebirds won those games
- 38:19Speaker 2: in Hershey, same thing would have happened. They would have
- 38:22Speaker 2: put everybody on the Alaska Airlines Bird. It would have
- 38:25Speaker 2: been Coachella Valley in the front, myself and the league
- 38:32Speaker 2: media in the middle, and then the Bears in the back.
- 38:36Speaker 2: So I've heard of that happening. I think that happened
- 38:38Speaker 2: in the EHL once too. I forget what team it was,
- 38:42Speaker 2: but there was that happened, and I guess there was
- 38:44Speaker 2: a really big brawl after game two and you had
- 38:48Speaker 2: to put everyone back on the same plane the next morning.
- 38:52Speaker 2: That didn't work. That didn't go Overwhell. But yeah, I
- 38:54Speaker 2: hope they figure something out because that would just be brutal.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Twenty one hours. Listen, I'll y'all catch me when you
- 39:01Speaker 2: come back.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I'm no, We're gonna wrap this up here with a
- 39:04Speaker 3: brief look at the Coachella Valley Firebirds and the Stanley
- 39:07Speaker 3: Cup playoffs. Plus also one quick thought on the World
- 39:10Speaker 3: Championships rosters which have just come out here for Team
- 39:13Speaker 3: USA and Joey Decorda and Matty Beniers are the hot
- 39:17Speaker 3: topic of conversation with us. We'll get to all of
- 39:19Speaker 3: this here in just a bit, but first off, the Firebirds.
- 39:22Speaker 3: They need a win to stay alive. Tonight down two
- 39:25Speaker 3: games to one of the Ontario Rain that's the best
- 39:28Speaker 3: of five second round series. Game four is thatch Coachell
- 39:31Speaker 3: Valley Tonight. Firebirds gotten upset in game one, beat the
- 39:35Speaker 3: Rain three nothing, lost game two five to one, lost
- 39:38Speaker 3: Game three two to one, So offense has got a
- 39:40Speaker 3: bit bone dry ever since Game one Coachelle Valley bell
- 39:45Speaker 3: was two to zero and back to the wall situations
- 39:48Speaker 3: meaning facing elimination. They beat the Bakersfield Condors in both situations.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Oscar Fisker muleguard for me a key in this second
- 39:57Speaker 3: leading score in the AHL postseason. I chatted with a
- 40:01Speaker 3: member of the crack in front office. He is blowing
- 40:03Speaker 3: their doors down right now in AHL postseason. He's got
- 40:08Speaker 3: seven points in six games again second leading ty for
- 40:11Speaker 3: the second leading scoring score here for ahel postseason play
- 40:17Speaker 3: He had a four game point streak snapped in Game three,
- 40:20Speaker 3: but ultimately can he drive the bus? And then nick
- 40:22Speaker 3: Ka Koco has appeared in all six playoff games, back
- 40:25Speaker 3: in NET and looking to bounce back from back to
- 40:27Speaker 3: back losses.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Oscar Fisker Mulgard proving that he's not
- 40:33Speaker 2: trying to go back to CV next year. I think
- 40:35Speaker 2: he's got a spot on this team. Yanni Newman right
- 40:38Speaker 2: behind him with six points, and you're waiting to see
- 40:40Speaker 2: him take that next step. Jacobrien was added to that
- 40:44Speaker 2: roster as well. I don't know if he'll play. I
- 40:46Speaker 2: think maybe this is just a move to get him
- 40:49Speaker 2: some practice time, to get him a customed and acclimated
- 40:52Speaker 2: to be in down there. He'll more than likely be
- 40:54Speaker 2: in Coachella next season as a nineteen year old for Jacobrien.
- 40:58Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, listen, like I said before, this
- 41:02Speaker 2: is so vitally important for Oscar Fisker Molgard and Yonnie Newman,
- 41:07Speaker 2: Jacob Alanson, Jagger Fercus, a number of these guys that
- 41:10Speaker 2: we're expecting to see here in Seattle, hopefully sooner rather
- 41:14Speaker 2: than later on a permanent basis, you need this experience
- 41:17Speaker 2: two and zero in winner go home game. So far
- 41:19Speaker 2: this year for CV, you're getting experienced and playing in
- 41:23Speaker 2: these high pressure situations. And anytime you get playoff championship experience,
- 41:28Speaker 2: it's gonna benefit you down the road. So this is great.
- 41:31Speaker 2: And regardless of what happens in game will that be
- 41:34Speaker 2: Game four tonight, you know they're they're gonna have some
- 41:38Speaker 2: experience to take with them. Most of these guys, I
- 41:41Speaker 2: would imagine, are gonna be at development camp in July.
- 41:45Speaker 2: We'll see, at least the cracking pit prospects will be.
- 41:48Speaker 2: We'll see. But no, I think that this is gonna
- 41:51Speaker 2: be good. And Oscar Fisker Moulegard, I mean, I mean,
- 41:53Speaker 2: I've I've had my eye on him as well through
- 41:55Speaker 2: this series, and he's doing everything that this brass wants
- 42:01Speaker 2: to see from him. And like I said, I think
- 42:03Speaker 2: he is. He's making that case for Hey, I'm gonna
- 42:06Speaker 2: be in Seattle full time. I got an apartment ready
- 42:08Speaker 2: to go for next year.
- 42:10Speaker 3: My goodness of Oscar Fiskom Wolgart can find a way
- 42:13Speaker 3: to pop and stay on this roster and make a
- 42:15Speaker 3: big impact for this next season. That's going to take
- 42:18Speaker 3: where this team wants to go for a long, long ride. Certainly,
- 42:22Speaker 3: very briefly, Stanley Cup Playoffs, Let's go Buffalo Sabers. Ye
- 42:28Speaker 3: all in the Buffalo Sabers one game to nothing lead
- 42:32Speaker 3: over the Montreal Canadians. It looks like that they mean
- 42:36Speaker 3: business right now. Ducks evening their series up on the
- 42:40Speaker 3: Western Conference side with Vegas at one game, a piece
- 42:43Speaker 3: of Colorado avalanche looking like a wagon right now, up
- 42:47Speaker 3: two games to nothing on the Philadelphia Flyers. And then
- 42:51Speaker 3: you have the Carolina Hurricanes, and you have the Philadelphia
- 42:55Speaker 3: Flyers as well. Flyers right now down two games to
- 42:59Speaker 3: nothing to Carolina. Game three is coming up here for
- 43:03Speaker 3: tonight f five pm. I think how as far as
- 43:06Speaker 3: how this is all playing out. Not not a ton
- 43:09Speaker 3: of surprises here for me, Everett, But I think it's
- 43:11Speaker 3: confirming for me what it is confirmed for you. The
- 43:15Speaker 3: Buffalo Sabers are a problem. They are for real, They
- 43:19Speaker 3: are a threat. They will do damage.
- 43:22Speaker 2: I think this playoff so far has confirmed two things
- 43:25Speaker 2: for me. The fact that out west you have four
- 43:27Speaker 2: verse seven and one verse three in the second round.
- 43:31Speaker 2: What are we doing here? Go back to one versus eight?
- 43:33Speaker 2: Make it straight through. Don't give me the travel, don't
- 43:37Speaker 2: give me the rivalries. I don't care. Right like it
- 43:39Speaker 2: should be one through eight. Now that being said, I'm
- 43:42Speaker 2: all in on the Buffalo wagon. I am. I am.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Give me a beer saber, give me, give me the
- 43:46Speaker 2: old goat head, give me the old buffet slug, you know.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Bring back all the great.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Beer skate wired beer saber, Yes.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Bring back Greer, bring back Palmonville, bring back all the
- 43:59Speaker 2: Mark Tannber, bring back Dominic Hasha, bring back everybody. I
- 44:03Speaker 2: am all aboard the Buffalo Sabers train out West. I
- 44:07Speaker 2: don't really care. I hope they all last forever. Maybe
- 44:11Speaker 2: maybe Minnesota. I love Joe O'Donnell and Tom Reid their
- 44:16Speaker 2: radio team uh to just amazingly tremendous guys. I root
- 44:21Speaker 2: for guys when it comes to teams in your own
- 44:25Speaker 2: conference and in your division. So I love those two guys.
- 44:28Speaker 2: So I guess gimme Minnesota to come out of the West.
- 44:30Speaker 2: I don't really care, gimme Buffalo. I'm all in on Buffalo,
- 44:34Speaker 2: and they look good. The Sabers. They don't look like
- 44:39Speaker 2: a team that has been on the playoffs for fifteen
- 44:43Speaker 2: years like they they're they're not just happy with being
- 44:47Speaker 2: back in the playoffs. They want to bleep bleep up
- 44:52Speaker 2: if you if you catch my drift. They're trying to
- 44:54Speaker 2: take some uh take prisoners, write no names and I
- 44:58Speaker 2: love it. I love it.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Or two victory over Montreal Zach Benson. Josh done multi
- 45:03Speaker 3: point games in that game one. They're gonna be fun
- 45:05Speaker 3: to watch and fun to look at here before we
- 45:07Speaker 3: get out of here. By the way, World Championships, the
- 45:09Speaker 3: prelim roster coming out here for Team USA. Surprised that
- 45:14Speaker 3: Maddy but here's enjoyed the cord, aren't there a little bit?
- 45:16Speaker 2: I'm a little bit surprised. Now. I will say this,
- 45:19Speaker 2: A lot of times you've got people that potentially could
- 45:22Speaker 2: be added later. A lot of these teams will leave
- 45:27Speaker 2: spots open for guys who are still currently playing in
- 45:31Speaker 2: the playoffs, so you could see some guys added, you know,
- 45:35Speaker 2: after a couple of games or in a couple of weeks.
- 45:37Speaker 2: But Ryan Lingren made the team for USA, which is great.
- 45:41Speaker 2: But I will say this. Bill Garren came out before
- 45:44Speaker 2: the Olympics, I believe, or right before the Olympic camp
- 45:47Speaker 2: back in the winter time, and he said that these games,
- 45:51Speaker 2: the World Championships, We at USA Hockey want these to matter.
- 45:55Speaker 2: If you want to play in the Olympics, if you
- 45:57Speaker 2: want to go to the Four Nations, you need to
- 45:59Speaker 2: be ready and you need to be prepared to potentially
- 46:03Speaker 2: play in the World as well. And so for so long,
- 46:06Speaker 2: the US hasn't really set their best, they haven't really
- 46:09Speaker 2: taken the Worlds very seriously. Well, then they win the
- 46:12Speaker 2: gold medal last year for the first time in ninety
- 46:15Speaker 2: some odd years. The Team USA is now taking the
- 46:18Speaker 2: World Championships seriously. So I think you're gonna start seeing
- 46:22Speaker 2: a lot better players than you have in the last
- 46:26Speaker 2: decades skate for Team USA in the World Championships. But
- 46:30Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised that matt E Vaniers and Joey
- 46:33Speaker 2: the Cord were left off the initial roster. Now they
- 46:35Speaker 2: also we don't know, they could have been asked and
- 46:38Speaker 2: said hey, thanks, but no thanks. We don't know, but
- 46:41Speaker 2: I was a little surprised that we didn't see those
- 46:44Speaker 2: two dames.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Brian Lindren, is there pre tournament game going down by
- 46:48Speaker 3: the way this Sunday, in case you're interested, at eight
- 46:51Speaker 3: a m. Pacific time. That going down in Germany with
- 46:55Speaker 3: Team USA taken on Germany as well. That's all the
- 46:59Speaker 3: time we have here for this overtime podcast. The Bowling
- 47:01Speaker 3: Green Quarter Zip served Everett fits you well, look good,
- 47:04Speaker 3: feel good, talk good ink. The Beg had us coming
- 47:07Speaker 3: around here for this next drop.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Is that right? Oh yeah, you'll be here, maybe even
- 47:11Speaker 2: for Game one.
- 47:12Speaker 3: We're gonna be there, inev you meet Al Konisky as well,
- 47:15Speaker 3: have us some pops and enjoy the WHL fun. Big
- 47:18Speaker 3: thanks again to Julius Miettinen and Everett fits You, I
- 47:21Speaker 3: Mike Betting for the overtime podcast.
- 47:23Speaker 1: See you You're home for the Crack Sports Radio ninety
