  a buck, but this is The Dirty little secret that we all know

  and nobody wants to talk about. So today we were talking about a

  certain card that sold, and I said, Oh yeah, I know who got

  that. It was a flipper.

  We all know what that term means.

  Can you say he's a flipper? So let's talk a little bit

  about. Flipping.

  Cards and what it does to our hobby.

  This is yours. Well, I mean, I think that

  before everybody got back into the hobby, you would see this

  quite often actually. You, you would see cards that
• 3:42
  you'd be bidding on, you know, within a week or 2-3 weeks they

  would come up again for auction. And this time they would be or
• 3:49
  they wouldn't even be in an auction.

  They'd be in a buy it now for double.
• 3:53
  So they would buy it for X, which was let's say $5.

  And then it would be the same card would be back for sale for

  10. And then you'd have, you know, a
• 4:03
  card for 100. Now it's 200 and it would just
• 4:06
  sit there. You know, you got your guy.

  I'm not, I mean, you know, you know, the, the suspects, the

  usual suspects, your Tony traders, your, your guys that
• 4:15
  are out there. They, you know, these are good
• 4:16
  dealers, good guys and everything have amazing
• 4:19
  collections. But this is really what this has
• 4:21
  been the method for dealers for many years.

  And what I think you're seeing now is you're really seeing

  these prices just get out of hand.

  I mean, it's just inflation's up everywhere, but never more so in

  the hobby and right now. And I think we've got to, we

  just happened to one really pissed me off the other day.

  About that. So I, I, so, you know, there was

  a friend of ours in the hobby who's been looking for a

  particular car and he says, hey, have you checked this auction

  out? I go, no, he goes and he said

  there's something in it, you know, I'm bidding on this and

  there's something in there that you got to see because I know
• 4:58
  you collect these Home Run Derby cards.

  He says there's a gorgeous mantle.

  Sure enough, I, you know, I go there and check it out.

  Day later, I do get the auction book and I'm going, man, this

  stuff is not it. A lot of fresh to the hobby

  stuff, right? So sure enough, there's a Home

  Run Derby. Mickey Mantle mic #7 Mickey

  Mantle #7. That's one of the best ones

  you've ever done, man. That's.

  All so anyway, there's a Mickey Mantle Home Run Derby and it's

  in APSA 6, fresh to the hobby and and I'm going, Oh my gosh,

  I'd love to have that as an upgrade.

  I'm going, like we talked about before, you know, we got taxes

  coming up and trying to sell a few things and I, yeah, it'd be
• 5:41
  nice to get an upgrade, but I've already got it.

  And, but they said, yeah, I'm going to put my best foot

  forward, I guess 'cause it these only come up recently, once a

  year, if you're lucky, if that, once every 18 months, anything

  of any quality. And anyway, Long story short,

  the auction closes at night. You know, it was scheduled to

  close at 9:00. It got in a little bit of an

  overtime. I had already had a bid.

  It got way, way more than I wanted to pay and it sold for a

  hammer price of $30,000. 30,000. 303 big ones, 3 salamis, 3

  enchiladas, 3 Jelly beans, biggies, 30 of them 3330.

  And so I'm all right. Well anyway, I'm getting ready

  to kick off to bed and you know, home run derbies or something.

  I don't know why I have them all the ones I want, but it's just

  one thing that I like to look at.

  And sure enough, if I don't hit the it's a one pops up there.

  And sure enough, if I don't hit it on my eBay and what pops up

  that same PSA, the same card. I swear it was not more than 15.

  I would almost that F word there, but they would have had

  to beat me. I forgot this is a kids show.

  are running, but I was just appalled at the price.

  he wires the money the next day, he's not getting it for a week

  I hate to out them, but I mean, dude, what the F are you doing?

  I mean, you're buying a card like this to double it at

  blocking or they don't have old auctions on there from January.

  They only have their last auction.

  OK, so now if you go, they have APDF file.

  So you got to go find your card on the PDF file and there's the

  Hank Aaron Home Run Derby. It shows it, how much it's sold

  for. So you know the help desk, The

  But but here's the deal, the auction houses all use a

  platform that there's like two or three that, you know, there's

  some company that puts a platform together and then they

  basically rent it or whatever and you know, they're paying

  them to use it. Then that platform is the one

  that compiles all the sales and then they send it to these apps

  and they realize those apps needed them, so now they're

  charging more and more money to. VCP had it on their app.

  VCP had it on their app just. What here's what I'm finding and

  I and I'm not a shield for card ladder.

  I find more misses on VCP and I do card ladder.

  I think it's just part of what's going on right now with.

  already searched five ways from Sunday to find the stupid sale.

  their credit. I mean, their service is second

  to none. It's not, you're not getting PSA

  service with them. You're getting, you know, a guys

  that care about their business and they, they will e-mail,

  don't know if they added it and then they said here's the card

  or I think, I think that they just found it more faster than I

  and then this happens a lot. They can't merge with Vintage I

  Is it's what's enabling prices to go up honestly because of all

  auction the other night. And and you asked if one of our

  friends got it and I said no because.

  I know he was looking, he was looking for one and he was going

  to bid on it, you know, and I. I said no.

  I remember seeing it on Instagram.

  A flipper got it. So here it is.

  That bad boy was sold and I think it's sold for $21,000 that

  night. This shows up on an Instagram

  story. I blocked out the guys name and

  look this guys trying to make a living.

  He's a good dude and. He's a dealer I bought from

  before he he just he sells. He deals in a lot of younger kid

  nice and a really nice fair kid too.

  You know he's trying to trying. At least he's not doubling it.

  And The thing is, he, I think he already has one in his case.

  So it made sense for him to try to buy the other one at auction

  to try to, you know, I, I don't, you don't see these every day.

  So. So if he wants to have two of

  them and he wants to put the money out and make the hold it

  until it until it sells, then more power to him.

  They both have in common that they're oddball cards that are

  aren't very common. You know, you don't, you don't

  see them a lot. There's only 311 of these cards.

  So you kind of can set your own comps.

  So when when cards are moving like this in auctions and in the

  auctions go to apps that is setting new comps all the time

  and when people are paying up and then they're charging

  outrageous prices, you're going to find somebody possibly to pay

  it because it's an oddball card. And in my opinion, that's what's

  driving these non traditional card prices like the Wilson

  Franks in the stall, Meyers and a lot of those that are going

  up, it's because of the flipper, the flipper people.

  And they're making them more expensive to the end to the end

  collector, which is us, You know, we're the ones that are,

  we're the ones that are paying for it.

  It is. But look, it's, it's crooked in

  the in the case. I I'm glad it looks terrible.

  I'm glad that our friend didn't buy it, to be honest with you.

  He'll find it because he wouldn't have been happy with

  get, I'm happy usually to get my money back a lot of times.

  But, but, but I mean, you know, these cards are going up every

  month. So you know, there is going to

  be some sweat equity in it, but don't forget you're paying tax,

  you're a. Dealer, you're not.

  But if you're a dealer, you're not paying tax, right?

  It's just one of those things. Be careful out there, especially

  on some of these bigger cards. You know, if you can afford it,
