You know, last time we talked about time, but today I thought we'd focus on something practical: getting around. Luna: Oh, like transport? I've been wanting to know how to say 'bus' and 'train'. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start with bus. In Amharic, bus is አውቶቡስ. Listen: አውቶቡስ. Luna: አውቶቡስ. That's fun. አውቶቡስ. Lucas: Good. And train is ባቡር. Say it with me: ባቡር. Luna: ባቡር. That one's easier for me. ባቡር. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want to ask where the bus is, you say: አውቶቡስ የት ነው? Remember የት ነው? from our directions episode? Luna: Yeah, 'where is it?' So አውቶቡስ የት ነው? — where is the bus? Lucas: Right. And for train: ባቡር የት ነው? Luna: ባቡር የት ነው? Where is the train? Lucas: Now, if you want to say 'I go by bus,' you use the verb መሄድ — to go. We learned that too. So: በአውቶቡስ እሄዳለሁ. Luna: በአውቶቡስ እሄዳለሁ. The 'በ' means 'by'? Lucas: Exactly. And for train: በባቡር እሄዳለሁ. Luna: በባቡር እሄዳለሁ. I go by train. So if I'm going to Addis, I'd say በባቡር እሄዳለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. Let's practice a little dialogue. Imagine you're at a station and you ask me: አውቶቡስ የት ነው? Luna: አውቶቡስ የት ነው? Lucas: And I answer: እዚያ ነው. It's over there. But if you want to go by train, you say: በባቡር እሄዳለሁ. Luna: በባቡር እሄዳለሁ. Good to know. Lucas: So let's go through all four phrases again. አውቶቡስ — bus. Luna: አውቶቡስ. Lucas: ባቡር — train. Luna: ባቡር. Lucas: አውቶቡስ የት ነው? — where is the bus? Luna: አውቶቡስ የት ነው? Lucas: ባቡር የት ነው? — where is the train? Luna: ባቡር የት ነው? Lucas: በአውቶቡስ እሄዳለሁ — I go by bus.
