- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to another edition of Inside the Birds.
- 0:12It's Adam Kaplan and the great Andrew d'iceco. Andrew.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Good to see again, and I'm always going to be
- 0:19with you, my friend, all right.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So first of all, before we get started, now only
- 0:23do you write for us at Inside the Birds dot
- 0:25com and you do the daily to checko, which we
- 0:27all love. Right, you're also a ninety seventy five fanatic.
- 0:30Continue the tradition. Jeff and I hosted a show for
- 0:34two years on the Fanatic Jodah Cameron I before we
- 0:36went to WP thirteen to fifteen. So speaking of the fanatic,
- 0:41let people know when they could hear you or give
- 0:43them a ballpark idea.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, they can hear me today from two to six
- 0:47I'll be on Unfiltered with Bill Colorulo and Ricky Batalico. Nice,
- 0:51and then it kind of varies from there. Then I
- 0:54have a you know, every Tuesday and Friday and Mom
- 0:57with then Tuesday four to six, every Friday from two
- 1:00to six.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Nice, nice, nice, nice. All right, So Chuck Andrew out,
- 1:03So Andrew, you and I and Jeff were at practices
- 1:06this week, and the first thing before we get into
- 1:08the depth of what we know, what we hear, and
- 1:10what we think is going to happen where we stand,
- 1:12and what this thing could look like over the next
- 1:14three weeks. What are your thoughts of going to these
- 1:17showing practices.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I love it because there's a palpable sense of intensity
- 1:22and urgency in the air, and I feel like you
- 1:24just get more accomplished because you're able to dictate whether
- 1:27you want to work on red zone, whether you want
- 1:29to work on other situation or one on ones, and
- 1:32then the team drills in that controlled environment. I just
- 1:36think that teams get so much of a benefit out
- 1:38of those joint practices.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah. In fact, talking to some of the coaches just
- 1:43coming off the field, like the Browns loved it because
- 1:46they don't Flack goes on an athlete, at least not
- 1:50the guy he was. He's got good mobility for a
- 1:52guy's forty, but Dylan Gabriel's mobile, but he's not a
- 1:55runner like Hertz. And they like going against Hurts, who
- 1:57obviously they know him. This is their third during practice.
- 2:00They've gone against them before, they know the quarterback, but
- 2:02this is, as you mentioned, a great way to get
- 2:04another look. I think so that was great and then
- 2:08what I found interesting is if you compare Wednesday to Thursday,
- 2:11and we're now today's Friday, so we're one day before
- 2:13the game. But it's interesting like Wednesday, and we knew
- 2:16Wednesday be heavier practice because you're three days away compared
- 2:19to two days away from practice, But what do you
- 2:21think of the way that Wednesdays and Thursday's practices were
- 2:24run compared late to drills and all that stuff.
- 2:27Speaker 2: So Wednesday had the one on ones, it also had
- 2:30some special teams drills, and it was a heavy eleven
- 2:33on eleven, which I love. But then you look at Thursday,
- 2:37and Thursday was exclusively eleven on eleven with a couple
- 2:40of special teams practices mixed in. No seven on sevens,
- 2:43no one on ones. So it was fast paced, it
- 2:46was brisk, and they got a lot of accomplished And
- 2:48that's something that I noticed at them from all the
- 2:51Eagles practices that I attend, and it's been to all
- 2:53of them this summer. YEP very efficient, very fast, and
- 2:57very little wasted time.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I think it's an advantage for Nick Sirie on the
- 3:02Eagles head coach, to be the CEO where he doesn't
- 3:04call the plays. We noticed about Tom Coughlin and who's
- 3:07a Super Bowl winner, of other CEO head coaches where
- 3:11they're not coaching one side of the football. Of course,
- 3:13Nick is an offensive guys, so he has a proclivity
- 3:17to the offense. But you'll see him go to station
- 3:18to station, not always on offense. I think that that's
- 3:21one of the secret sauces of Sirianni's development as a coach,
- 3:24to be able to put fires out when they need
- 3:26to be, to observe his coach of coaches, coaches, not
- 3:30only his players. It has actually work well. We don't
- 3:32talk a lot a lot about it, but I did
- 3:34notice on Tuesday Wednesday. And by the way, Kevin Stefancy
- 3:38is very similar. He hasn't always called the place. Some
- 3:40years he does, some years he doesn't. So let's get started.
- 3:42Eagles offense versus the Browns defense, and the way they
- 3:45set it up is it's surely on two fields, although
- 3:48special teams might be on the third tier in terms
- 3:50of the kickers and punters, but typically what you see
- 3:53is okay, Eagles offense versus Brown's defense in one field
- 3:56and field three it's the exact opposite. So let's get
- 3:58to the Eagles. We're gonna do an overview the first
- 4:00two days. So Tanner McKee, you've now seen him. This
- 4:04is year three, and obviously you get a little bit
- 4:07more a high speed thing. As you said you talked
- 4:09about to set this thing up. What were your thoughts
- 4:11of McKee this week?
- 4:14Speaker 2: He processes so quickly at him when he's at the controls,
- 4:18the ball gets out of his hands quickly. He trusts
- 4:20his receivers, which you don't often see from younger quarterbacks
- 4:23that are working with an interchangeable group of cast of characters,
- 4:26I guess you could say. But he also throws the
- 4:28ball with such touch and accuracy. He throws a beautiful
- 4:31deep ball, and that's something that has really registered with
- 4:35me over the past couple of years. Really, but I thought,
- 4:38really the last couple of weeks in particular, Tanner mckeey.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, the thing other than the mobility, which has come
- 4:45a long way in really the last two seasons, two
- 4:48off seasons, is his touch from shrediera passes. This has
- 4:51really improved. It's not easy when you're six six to
- 4:54take something off of it, and he's done a really
- 4:56good job of doing that. And I would add this
- 4:58with Hertz Boy his timing. I know people knock him
- 5:01because it's all tape based, but I know from watching
- 5:04him up close this summer, being in a number of practices,
- 5:07particularly the last two in the red zone or it's tight,
- 5:11you got to make stick throws, he made them. He
- 5:14was more willing to throw it in tight areas and
- 5:16I thought that's an area of improvement for him. And
- 5:18then of course with Dory Thompson Robbinson a former Brown,
- 5:21and Kyle McCord, and we don't get to see him
- 5:24because quite frankly, it's about the ones and the twos
- 5:26in practice.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but between the two, I think Dorian Thompson Robinson
- 5:31has started to come on after not making that much
- 5:33of a splash earlier in camp. Obviously, reps are limited
- 5:36for both he and Kyle McCord. Kyle McCord and sometimes
- 5:40context is important in this situation where he went one
- 5:43for five in the interception, but he's also working with,
- 5:46you know, a deep reserve offensive line and players that
- 5:50you know that he doesn't maybe often work with. But
- 5:53I think for DTR he started to build some confidence.
- 5:56He throws a nice pass and he's the more reps
- 5:59that he's getting the more of a rhythm he's getting into,
- 6:01and I've noticed that the receivers that he's working with
- 6:03they have confidence in him and vice versa.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So let's move to running back, and you and I
- 6:09have chronicled Will Shipley since who was drafted. Everybody knows
- 6:13about the speed, and then you had aj Dillon, who's
- 6:17clearly healthy. By the way, what do you think of
- 6:19these two guys as accombinations? In particular, if Barkley couldn't
- 6:24play in the regular season, what are your thoughts on
- 6:25these two guys carry the load.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really interesting. Will Shipley has made gradual strides
- 6:30in terms of pass protection. In fact, on Wednesday he
- 6:33had a nice rep against Jerome Baker, the linebacker, but
- 6:39he just has so much jukes at him. He's electric
- 6:41graph for the catch. He's such a natural pass catcher,
- 6:44but he also has home run hitting ability, and in
- 6:47my opinion, in game he's the ideal change of pace
- 6:50running back to sa Kwon Barkley, that change up runner.
- 6:53Whereas if the Eagles needed to lean on a player
- 6:56to handle volume, well that would be Aj Dillon. He's
- 6:59proved it before. He can handle eighteen to twenty carries
- 7:02in a game, and I think and it's all relative.
- 7:05He's shown some decent wiggle when explodes exploding through the hole,
- 7:10and he's caught the ball pretty well this summer. Now,
- 7:13the big question that we all had was how was
- 7:15he going to handle the riggers that come with a
- 7:18game and handle contact? And thus far he's checking off
- 7:22those boxes.
- 7:24Speaker 1: One of the things surprised me. We're gonna start with
- 7:26Shipley here before we move on to the receivers. You're right,
- 7:29he catches the ball and we know he moves well.
- 7:31You and I saw that last summer. But the thing
- 7:34you could be fast, but if you can't set up
- 7:36your blocks. Well, he had won and Wednesday's practiced. I'm
- 7:39looking at my notes here. So Hertz dropped it off.
- 7:44He caught it, but he waited. Okay, he waited to
- 7:48his offensive line got there and set him up and
- 7:52he went upfield. I'm like, wow, that is really good
- 7:54for a young player. Very impressed by him. And then
- 7:56with Dylan, the thing that surprised me is he has
- 7:59this jump cut. Then I'm like, wait a minute, this
- 8:01guy's two forty five to two forty seven. Where did
- 8:02this come from?
- 8:03Speaker 2: He's not supposed to do that.
- 8:04Speaker 1: No, he's not. He looks really good to me. This
- 8:09is the bet. Now again, they have to perform if
- 8:10they're asked to. But this is the best combo they've
- 8:14had as backup running backs in a long time. And
- 8:16I'm pretty impressed. This looks good. It's been a little
- 8:18bit better than anticipated. Let's get the receiver, you know what,
- 8:22Andrew to start training camp. My thought was that I
- 8:25don't know about this backup group, but let's get to
- 8:28you first. What are your thoughts on these guys? Cooper
- 8:30Wilson and I Smith, Marshall Cooks I know just started
- 8:33to come back morning, even Charles Jackson.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah. So aside from the top three, Johnny Wilson got
- 8:40off to a slow start in training camp. He wasn't
- 8:42playing to his size and he had some concentration drops.
- 8:45What I've noticed Adam over the past week, even before
- 8:48the preseason game, that he had three catches seventy three
- 8:51yards and he was going up and using his size
- 8:54and his frame to shield defenders and Hygh pointing the football.
- 8:58He was making catches in traffic a couple of practices
- 9:01previous to that game, and when you start to make
- 9:03plays like that, you start to stack the days, as
- 9:05they say, and build that confidence. And I believe that
- 9:09while it was a little bit slower for him to
- 9:11hit that stride as a receiver, we know what he
- 9:13could do as a blocker. But I do believe that
- 9:16when you're able to have those successive practices like that,
- 9:19you start to get into a rhythm. And then Annia Smith,
- 9:23he's flashed in one on ones. To me, he's had
- 9:25some interesting reps against Cooper Degene, being able to separate
- 9:28the top of his route use that short area quickness.
- 9:30But he hasn't done really anything in terms of team drills.
- 9:34He hasn't made splashy plays. In fact, he had to
- 9:38drop a couple of weeks ago. That's the one play
- 9:40that I could think of. But the player here that
- 9:43has really caught my eye, and he caught my eye
- 9:45earlier in camp is Darius Cooper, the undrafted wide receiver
- 9:48out of Tarlatan State. He can play inside, he can
- 9:52play outside, good quickness, and the moment never seems to
- 9:55be too big for him. And I think it really
- 9:58speaks to the way that he's rest that no matter
- 10:01who the quarterback is, whether it's Jay when hurts or
- 10:03Tane m Key. They trust him to go and make
- 10:05the play and attack the football, and I think that
- 10:08there's something to be said for that.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He his major urgency is a scouting term. I mean
- 10:12he taxed it, as you said. Now here's the book
- 10:14on We were looking for this information. We finally got
- 10:17it from some scouting switches around the league. So this
- 10:20is interesting. So he and Max and Hook were both
- 10:22academic All Americans last season, Hook at Toledo and Cooper
- 10:26at Charlton State. He was actually going to probably head
- 10:29to a someone told me in a sort of an
- 10:33athletic training career had he not played football. But the
- 10:36big reason why he was not drafted of the lista
- 10:39we're going to give you he was a high school quarterback.
- 10:42They thought he would transition better to receiver and then quarterback.
- 10:46At Charlton State, one of the coaches, I think someone
- 10:48told me, suggested to him, hey, man, i think you're
- 10:51probably better off moving to it to quarterbacks, from quarterback
- 10:54to receiver. So we did that with in the first year. Now,
- 10:56despite the numbers he put up late in his career,
- 11:00didn't even a matter. No All Star Game, invite, no
- 11:02Combine invite. He was on this seniorble watch list I
- 11:05think up to senior season, but he wasn't invited. And
- 11:09the other problem is the level of competition over the years. Now,
- 11:12I know that they transition to D one from D
- 11:16two in twenty twenty, but they were in a four
- 11:18year like an evaluation, and then they just were eligible
- 11:22for playoffs in college football last season. So you got
- 11:26to add this all up. Now it makes sense, Andrew,
- 11:28because seeing this kid attack it as you talked about it. Uh,
- 11:32Jeff and I were talking to my quick about it
- 11:34this week. When you see a guy play like this,
- 11:37who's been let's call it like it as one of
- 11:38the best receivers in cabnot named Smith or Brown, you
- 11:42question like that, what are the teams missing on it?
- 11:44But now you get it because of the information we
- 11:47just gave you. There wasn't really a reason to draft
- 11:49the guy because you had you would have to in scouting,
- 11:54you'd have to stick your gazintas on the line for
- 11:56lack of a better turn. You're gonna if you're gonna
- 11:58jump on the table. If the Treffls guy even seventh,
- 12:01that's it. Look, you you would have to say he's
- 12:03a draftable guy, but no team thought he was draftable.
- 12:06And by the way, the Eagles to move us along here,
- 12:08they gave ninety one thousand guaranteed. It's not like two
- 12:11hundred and fifty thousand guarantee, which gave Hall got last year.
- 12:14So we got to put that in proper context.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You often every camp has a receiver who is sort
- 12:20of a lower end in the pecking order to start
- 12:23that emerges or has a big summer, but they sometimes don't.
- 12:28They're not able to correlate that into a regular season
- 12:30success or staying power for that matter. Darius Cooper is
- 12:33different in my opinion, because I see certain qualities that
- 12:37I believe will translate over ability to attack the football
- 12:42build on days, and what I mean by that is
- 12:44show improvement day to day. You don't see someone who
- 12:46gets stagnant or who flashes for a week. He's been
- 12:49very consistent. And there's something to be said for Jalen
- 12:52Hurts throwing him the football. There was a day where
- 12:54he threw him. He made a catch on a low pass.
- 12:57Jayalen Hurts gives him a high five, acknowledging him. They
- 13:00know that he belongs and and Darius Cooper knows that
- 13:02he belongs. And I don't know if you noticed. On Thursday, Adam,
- 13:06they had Darius Cooper on the first team kickoff and
- 13:09he was obviously the first two kick returners were will
- 13:11Shipley and AJ Dillon, but the next pair Darius Cooper
- 13:15and Avery Williams. So they're trying to find ways to
- 13:17get him involved and maximize that value.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm putting him on my Like in a first
- 13:23week of August in twenty twenty two, I remember saying
- 13:25on a show, Flagship's making the team. I'm in. This
- 13:28kid's making it. There's no way that they see. The
- 13:30thing is other teams. You know, they have like interns
- 13:35monitoring Twitter. The word got out in Darius Cooper, and
- 13:38they also get what are called news clips, so they
- 13:40know thirty one of their teams in the Cooper's player.
- 13:42They're not cut them, They're not gonna wave them there.
- 13:43You're not going to risk it. And on your point
- 13:46and that which is really one of the best of
- 13:47all of all of this, he does it every game practice,
- 13:51every practice. He shows up because he knows he's an
- 13:53undreftter free agent. You're not a lock to make the team.
- 13:56So I give I think it's cam Bradfield, the Southwest
- 14:01scout who's responsible, and obviously Howie for signing them and
- 14:04however they did it. It's just it's a it's a
- 14:08big time job by them, all right. So receiver wise,
- 14:11I know Cooks, who was one of the stars of camp,
- 14:13just got back. He needed to be back. I noticed
- 14:17on Thursday Tarres Marshall was a lot not all the time,
- 14:20but a lot of times. He's the backup X receiver
- 14:22for AJ Brown, which he had been before Brown got hurt,
- 14:26so that I thought that was pretty good that he's
- 14:30back and he needs to make up for lost time.
- 14:31Johnny Wilson knew. What's interesting this is how much they
- 14:33love him as a blocker. They ran They ran a
- 14:36set of ten personnel, which is four receivers and one back,
- 14:40and they kept him in a block which tells you
- 14:42his value in addition to his size it's over six
- 14:47six and everything that he brings to the table when
- 14:48he applies himself. I thought that was pretty interesting. Now,
- 14:51one more guy before we move on, tell us about
- 14:54Taylor Moran, the undrafted free agent. What are your thoughts
- 14:56on him well.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I think he has really good shrey quick this, and
- 15:00he has a compact built so he's a little bit
- 15:03of a more sturdy bill compared to let's say Britain Covey.
- 15:06They have similar they're similar in height, but I think
- 15:09Taylor Moren is able to kind of showcase some contact
- 15:12balance when he gets on the move. He catches the
- 15:14ball well, he tracks the football well. He's had some
- 15:17nice moments. He's called two touchdowns in the open practice
- 15:20and he's caught a couple from Dorian Thompson Robinson as well.
- 15:24He's also a prolific punp returner. I don't know if
- 15:28that's talked about it enough. He doesn't get the reps
- 15:31ahead of let's say Naya Smith or and Avery Williams,
- 15:34but because he has multipurpose value, you can make a
- 15:38case for keeping him on the practice squad because I
- 15:40do think that there's something there.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Let me ask you this question before, because I know
- 15:44you and the local beat reporters put together there final
- 15:47fifty three, and I know it's hard to keep seven receivers.
- 15:50That's not going to happen, But do you think there's
- 15:52a chance to keep six? I do think they keep
- 15:55six who would be who would be your quick sex
- 15:58right now?
- 15:59Speaker 2: Without me tipping my head too much for these they
- 16:02spent the three coming up by A. J. Brown, DeVante Smith,
- 16:06Johan Dodson, John Lenny Wilson, and Iah Smith and Darius Cooper.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I can't disagree with that. See, Jeff made a good point,
- 16:14like with Gosi, Tarus Marsha or invested veterans, you just
- 16:16work it out with the agent and hey, listen, we
- 16:19got to keep these other guys on the roster because
- 16:21we don't because Wilson in Cooper are subject to wars.
- 16:24If we cut them, we don't get claimed. Would you
- 16:27be doing a wink wink deal? Hey, stay in the area.
- 16:30We'll bring you up after four weeks. You know, we'll
- 16:32or we'll on game day if we need you. But
- 16:34we want you on a practical We want you know.
- 16:36You could always work that out now. The one though,
- 16:38if you see, I know every Williams has had some
- 16:40reps a receiver, but I just to me, I have
- 16:43not seen him stand out at all as a.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Receiver, and his reps at receiver to your point, I've
- 16:47been few and far between. It hasn't really factored in much.
- 16:51You don't always want to show everything in a public practice,
- 16:54but I mean when you're trying to when the season
- 16:56is just a few weeks away and you still haven't
- 16:58seen much of it, Yep, I'm not so sure that
- 17:01he would be on my fifty three right now. I
- 17:03think they have something there in an Ia Smith as
- 17:05a returner that forty six yarder. Michael Play talked about
- 17:10how Anayas has developed in terms of foot quickness and
- 17:13racing to the football and getting vertical and reading his block,
- 17:16being a more patient player in other words, That's how
- 17:18I interpreted it. And Anaias just has a lot more
- 17:20confidence this year compared to your two. I think that
- 17:23they want to continue to see that development through.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's healthy. He just i mean, basically had
- 17:27a red shirt year. He just could never get over
- 17:29that two different foot isshoes. So let's get to tight end.
- 17:32I'm fascinated by this thing because Kylon grantson watching him
- 17:36on Thursday. He's an f tight end. He means he's offset.
- 17:39He's just not big. He's under six too. He's just
- 17:41not big enough to play in line because you got
- 17:43to protect him. But he's got as much juice as
- 17:46Kakata has, but they're different the way that they move.
- 17:50And I know, I know you've seen him on special teams.
- 17:52You're mister special team's evaluator. What are your thoughts on
- 17:54him on special teams?
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I can on all of that, all those I know,
- 17:58and he WoT on. He's on the first team kick
- 18:03coverage and then also kick return. But I think what
- 18:07makes him a little bit more unique or maybe would
- 18:10force the Eagles to maybe roster him, is that he's
- 18:13more in the mold of an h back. He's talked
- 18:16about repby. He's lined up in the backfield before he's
- 18:19lined up out wide. There hasn't been a role that
- 18:21he hasn't fulfilled. And more importantly, I think that he
- 18:26can really help them on special teams as well. Now,
- 18:28the question that I have, I don't know if they
- 18:31need to keep three. I don't know if you wouldn't,
- 18:33I'm not so sure. If you're the Eagles, you would
- 18:35worry about Well, I don't even know if grandson's a
- 18:38vested veteran. He is he is, He's vested, yes, right,
- 18:41so you could you could feasibly keep someone like Grandson
- 18:44end or Bryant, Any J. Jenkins on the practice and
- 18:49then elevate like they did last year to great success.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Grandson his one year deals worth one point seventy
- 18:55five million that they guaranteed, fully guaranteed at signing one
- 18:59million of it, not a ton of money. And with
- 19:02Harrison Bryant is just what just charting the Wednesday and
- 19:07Thursday's practice Bryant was because they're see Brian Brian and
- 19:13grants that are typically they're so different in the way
- 19:15that they're used because Bryant could play the wide position
- 19:18where Granted can't, but Granted is so much more athletic
- 19:22than Harrison Brian. Plus you got the team's value for Grandson.
- 19:25It's an interesting discussion. And then there's we don't we
- 19:28don't talk about him, but Nick muses on team, Uh
- 19:31they gave they only gave twenty five grand to guaranteed.
- 19:33And then your guy E. J.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Jenkins, Yeah, he's uh, he's in my opinion, he's their
- 19:38second best blocking tight end and he has a role
- 19:41on special teams. Yeah, if you look at someone like
- 19:44Kylan Grantson and Harrison Bryant, you know they're there. They
- 19:47would probably be available to be on the practice squad,
- 19:50whereas someone like EJ. Jenkins, you know, conceivably has developmental upside.
- 19:54He was a collegiate wide receiver and played for three
- 19:56different universities, including Saint Francis. So I think that he's
- 19:59still tapping into that potential. And you see his size
- 20:02at six foot six, two hundred and sixty pounds, he
- 20:05can give you something a little bit different, especially as
- 20:07a blocker.
- 20:09Speaker 1: All right, let's get speak of a blocking Let's get
- 20:11to the offensive line before we get to the defense.
- 20:12So everybody knows Bretto. Now it's filling it for Landon Dickerson,
- 20:17and he would start week one if Landon is not ready.
- 20:20To me, I think it's crazy, but I get it.
- 20:23He's been here seven years. As a reason he hasn't
- 20:25been here all the time seven years with the Cardinals,
- 20:27He's had a number of injuries, but Stout loves him.
- 20:30Guy's toughest nails, great story development, filling out his body.
- 20:33What can you tell us about Bretto?
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I wrote a story on Bretto about what he
- 20:38was providing behind the scenes that a lot of folks
- 20:40aren't privy to. He takes a lot of pride in
- 20:44upholding the standard that was set to ensure that he's
- 20:48upholding that and bringing young players along the way. He
- 20:51highlighted Drew Kendall as someone who he noticed right away
- 20:56fit right into the culture in terms of professionalism, in
- 20:59terms of melody, knowing what he doesn't know and asking questions,
- 21:03and and Brett has mastered the technique of Jeff Stoutlin.
- 21:06He knows how things are supposed to look, and he
- 21:09knows his teammates. He knows those players, and so I
- 21:12think there's a lot of continuity when you plug somebody
- 21:14like that in whether it's between Jordani Lott and Cam
- 21:17Jurgens or he's played all over the line, But in
- 21:20this case, I think there's a lot of comfortability there.
- 21:23Speaker 1: With him in the lineup. And they would have if
- 21:25he starts Week one, they certainly would have the tast
- 21:28offensive line in the National FOOTBA League. Brett Toth is
- 21:30over sixty six. It's it's insane. I mean, it's it's
- 21:34amazing that the leff that this team has so Yeah. Canard,
- 21:38I know, has been cross trained at left guard prior,
- 21:40has not had any rate. I haven't seen any Have
- 21:43you seen any reps at left guard? I didn't see any.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Prior No Canard. Since the Dickerson injury, the Eagles have
- 21:49been putting him at second team left guard.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Did you see Keegan backing up Toth this week at all?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Kegan? Did I think he was actually right guard?
- 22:00Speaker 3: Oh?
- 22:00Speaker 1: Really? Wasn't it left? Yeah?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Normally he was a left guard. He was playing right guard,
- 22:05and that's where Canard was playing hard.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Interesting. Okay, well they're really cross training and what we
- 22:10saw earlier this week, Cam Williams number seventy three, get
- 22:12a little bit. I saw him on my notes here.
- 22:14He got a couple second team reps, but he's a
- 22:17major project. Colin Pierce another major project. I'll say this,
- 22:20what talking to the Browns, what they really like you
- 22:22talk about different looks. They think this is the biggest
- 22:25offensive line that they would face, So they like that
- 22:29they get to their defense gets to face an offensive
- 22:32line this big. They got to show they can get
- 22:34off blocks. And that's on your point that you made
- 22:36earlier to start to show this is a different look
- 22:38that you not in terms of strategy. Just from a
- 22:41size quotion is pretty good. Other than that, I think
- 22:46Drew Kennell's been a nice story weren't real sure about
- 22:48him because from a scouting standpoint, talking to people in
- 22:50the league, you're worry about the size that people didn't
- 22:53see hm as a guard. But you know what, that's
- 22:54Cincinnati game. He was terrific. Where's Drew Kenell right now?
- 22:59You're thinking.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Watching him from day one to this point where we've
- 23:05seen fifteen days of training camp, I see the notable
- 23:08development in him. I see him becoming more technically refined,
- 23:11and that really is his hallmark. He's a technically sound player,
- 23:15not overly athletic, but he's highly intelligent, and you hear
- 23:19a different linemen in various interviews speak highly of him.
- 23:22I had a chance to interview Drew Kendall earlier in camp.
- 23:25I wrote a story about him about his development. I
- 23:27thought that that was one of the Eagles' best Day
- 23:29three picks, along with Smile Mont, and I think that
- 23:33he is right on track in terms of his development.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Before we move to defense, just a couple of injury notes.
- 23:38No aj Brown this week. Then for Cleveland, these are
- 23:42big Martin Evererson, their number two corner out for the season,
- 23:45Jok out for the season, Jordan Hicks retired. Although they
- 23:48were thinking that was going to happen. The Browns thought
- 23:50that all offseason he would he retired, So yeah, you're down.
- 23:53Look this matters like when you look at key players
- 23:55are not practicing, But of course when it happens, you
- 23:59give other players a chance to perform, which they did.
- 24:02All right, before we get to defense, let's hear a
- 24:05note from our friends from sky Motor Cars.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Sky Motor Cars and West guess there's a different building
- 24:11dealers all the tanks is one. Look at their highline
- 24:14pre owned vehicles and people all over the country.
- 24:16Speaker 1: What the odor of Bredge Gilder.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Make sure you don't spend the time of your money
- 24:19before you've purchased the car. Sky Motor Cars allows you
- 24:23to make all the decisions regarding your next vehicle. At
- 24:26sky Motor Cars, you never have to spend more than
- 24:29debts jury. There's a Skymotorcarns dot Com today are called
- 24:32six ten, nine to one, eighty seventh five.
- 24:38Speaker 1: All right, Andrew, let's get to the Browns offense versus
- 24:41the Eagles defense. But before we start, I want to
- 24:44ask you a question. You were at the twenty three.
- 24:47I'm pretty certain you were at the twenty twenty three
- 24:50join practice correct least some of them. Yes, Ven, Seeing
- 24:54Miles Garret up close is a inexperience. One of your
- 24:57thoughts about him this week.
- 25:00Speaker 2: He's a practice wrecord. We know he's a game wrecord,
- 25:02but he's also a practice wrecker. And it seems like
- 25:05there were times where he had to let up almost
- 25:07Adams so that let the Eagles get off some offensive plays.
- 25:11But there was a play that he had on Wednesday
- 25:14where he chased Jalen Hurts across the field from the backside,
- 25:18forced him out of bounds. There's another play where it
- 25:20was a screen pass to Devonte Smith, Davante scoots up
- 25:24the left side line. The play wasn't over because Miles
- 25:27Garrett was in hot pursuit and tracked them down from
- 25:30behind and try to swap the ball out. He's just
- 25:32all over the field, one of the best players, and
- 25:35probably the best player at his position, and it's not
- 25:38often that you see Lane Johnson struggle or have any
- 25:42sort of fits. I saw that one on once. You
- 25:46and I watched that. He's just a remarkable talent, and
- 25:50I think sometimes that's taken for granted, but when you
- 25:53see him there and you see what he's able to
- 25:54do against the premier tackles. It's pretty incredible, all right.
- 25:57Speaker 1: So on Thursday's practice we were staying in the end,
- 26:00so it was me, Jeff and John, Richie Fumer Eagle
- 26:03and Raider full back and uh we there was this
- 26:06one rep where if you're watching on YouTube, so I'm
- 26:12gonna use my left hand to show you he took
- 26:15a job step left and went right past my lotta.
- 26:20John and I looked at each other like, did he
- 26:22just do that? It's it's whatever the hell. He is
- 26:24six five and two seventy five. And by the way,
- 26:27so talk to some people with the browns over there
- 26:30is Miles. He started build his body up for the
- 26:32last two or three years, but now he looks like
- 26:34mister Olympia. But to be this bendy, this loosened the
- 26:38hips and this explosive and on your point about he's
- 26:41almost toying, nobody could stop him. He put it, he
- 26:45destroyed the Eagles two years ago. Here he didn't in
- 26:47twenty three, I don't or twenty two, but two years
- 26:50ago he did. And this is something else, man, When
- 26:53you get to see a greatness and the other great
- 26:55performances when Tom Brady was here with New England, when
- 26:57he when he was twenty eight for twenty eight in
- 26:59the ball hit the ground every pass of the thrown anticipation.
- 27:02This Miles Garrett performance was something else. Although I to
- 27:05be honest with you, Andrew watching Lane Johnson's It's twenty
- 27:07twenty three. Some practice is where you go, holy bleep,
- 27:10this is pretty special. But offensive linemen, it's because they're
- 27:14not They're not trying to get upfield like Miles Garrett is.
- 27:18It's something like, I just I'm in awe of the
- 27:20thing that I saw, and I just hope if you're
- 27:23the Browns, and I know there would be some Browns
- 27:25fans listening, I wish they could get him more help
- 27:27on defense because they brought and Joe Tryon, Shayanka, a
- 27:31former first round from Tampa who's probably more of a
- 27:33third edge. Alex Right, who they like, is in the
- 27:35Fine Vers rookie deal, Isaiah Maguire from Eagles, Drew na
- 27:39Chuir and kJ Henry, so they just don't have him
- 27:41have enough talent to help him around there. But seeing
- 27:44him man was pretty darn special on Wednesday and Thursday.
- 27:48All right, let's get to it andrew your thoughts. So
- 27:50the Browns offense versus Eagles defense. So what I find
- 27:54comical when you'll when people say, okay, who won the
- 27:57first two days? I don't grade like that. I'll just
- 28:00tell you when I think it's Domino, I'll tell you.
- 28:02But what do you think about the Eagles defense these
- 28:04last days?
- 28:06Speaker 2: So on Thursday, folks exclusively on the Eagles defense, and
- 28:10I thought, in terms of run defense, they were physical
- 28:13and they were attacking the line of scrimmage. There were
- 28:16some drops from the Browns, and I thought Joe Flacco
- 28:19later in practice had dialed up some some nice throws.
- 28:22But this really emphasized what Sidney Brown can do when
- 28:26he's in his element. What I mean by that is
- 28:28attacking like a heat seeking missile at the line of scrimmage.
- 28:31There were a couple of times where he charged in
- 28:34there to pop Dylan Sampson. The rookie running back of
- 28:36the Cleveland Browns, Jeremiah Trotter Junior, I thought had probably
- 28:41the best practice of any Eagles defensive player. He had
- 28:44consecutive nice plays and run fits. He showed some awareness
- 28:48and athleticism to get to the sideline and to cover
- 28:50up Samson on a pass play that was rendered incomplete.
- 28:53He was all over the field and Cooper dejen had
- 28:56some nice moments as well, playing physical, throwing a shoulder
- 28:59in there to running back to your own forward and
- 29:01impeding his progress. Now, he did lose out to Jamari
- 29:05Thrash on one particular play where it was sort of
- 29:07an outside inside route that Flacco put it right on
- 29:11his numbers. I'm Brady and Jane lost on that, but
- 29:14Cooper also had an interception later in the session.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Set Wednesday, their time in Flacco, particularly Judy. Look at
- 29:21my notes here, there's something that their timing was off
- 29:23and there were a number of drops on Wednesday's practice.
- 29:25Then Thursday's practice they had more success, now understand. Something
- 29:28to add. Another guy wasn't practicing was Quincon Judkins, their
- 29:32second round running back who will be the starter once
- 29:34he's reinstated to the roster. So you got your own
- 29:37fords are pretty good back up here. Strong You might
- 29:39remember him from the Patriots. You mentioned Dylan Sampson, who's
- 29:43more of a change up, a smaller back, a fourth
- 29:45rounder this year. So they're just not good enough at
- 29:48running back with that Judkins, So that vehicles had an
- 29:50advantage there. But you know the other thing is with
- 29:53the Browns now for years they had one of the
- 29:54top three offensive lines. Not anymore. Jack Conklin, it turns
- 29:58thirty two soon. He's had a ton of injuries in
- 30:01his career. Dwan Jones is really playing out of position.
- 30:04He should be a right tackle, not a left tackle.
- 30:05He's a He's enormous. He's about six to eight plus.
- 30:09Speaker 2: He walked right past me this morning. I was like, Wow,
- 30:11there he is, Dewan Jones in the huge Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Joe Patonio who won't be a Hall of Fame
- 30:17reason what I call the almost Hall of Fameless. But
- 30:19he's he decided not to retires, gonna play this season.
- 30:22Ethan Posk coming from Seattle, why Teller has been a
- 30:25great story development coming over from a trade with Buffalo.
- 30:27But they're not They're not good enough to tackle spots.
- 30:29But I'll say this, the Eagles Edges Andrews. See if
- 30:34you agree with me. I thought over Wednesday and Thursday,
- 30:39they kind of all flashed and then we'll get to
- 30:41the the the front. But Ojelari on Wednesday, you see
- 30:46that length man josh Usha, he could he could still
- 30:50get up field. We he's clearly head of Ojelari. After
- 30:54the first three days of camp it was Ojeli. Now
- 30:56it's been Uche. But give me give me your thoughts.
- 30:59You said fifty practices. You've seen Olari and Ouche, Patrick Johnson,
- 31:03Paul Ryland, Obo Conker another ex Cleveland Brown. Give me
- 31:06a thought to those guys.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's been a largely quiet camp for as
- 31:12he's o Jealari. I went into it with the expectation
- 31:14that he was going to be the Eagles' most impactful
- 31:17for each A edition. I thought that was going to
- 31:18manifest early. It hasn't yet, but he's had moments. Josh Uche, though,
- 31:23is clearly the number three edge rusher right now in
- 31:26my estimation, based on how they deploy him and based
- 31:30on production. He's getting into the backfield. He picked up
- 31:32a sack today. I believe it was on Joe Flacco,
- 31:35might have been Dylan Gabriel, but he I should say
- 31:38it was. It was Thursday that it happened. But he
- 31:42gets into the backfield so quickly that you know, sometimes
- 31:46you have to remind yourself this is the player who
- 31:49in twenty twenty two had eleven and a half sacks.
- 31:51Obviously the last two years hasn't done much of anything.
- 31:54He can bind for five over that span, but then
- 31:57you look a little bit further down in the pecking
- 31:59Guarner and uh ogbo Oka. Rockwell has had some nice moments.
- 32:04I thought the two joint practices against his former team,
- 32:07he had some first team reps. So it seems like
- 32:11the Eagles are trying to better assess what they have
- 32:14in terms of their depth players. And and all three
- 32:17of them had some first team reps Thursday, and I
- 32:19think's had some nice moments. He's sort of flying under
- 32:22the radar a little bit. I know he's purely he's
- 32:24purely a pass rusher, and I think that he's had
- 32:28some some moments in one on ones and also in
- 32:30team periods.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Obo is his nickname, by the way, so the
- 32:34d lineman. I am blown away by Ojomo's first step quickness.
- 32:39To see It's one thing to watch it like if
- 32:41you're at home on TV, but to see it on
- 32:42the field up close with five feet in front of me.
- 32:46He's another guy. Like the word that Jeff and I
- 32:49got from scouting standpoint too smart fuddy knew everything. Would
- 32:56he be coachable? The answer is yes, yes, and yes.
- 32:59Once again, the scouting people around the National Football League,
- 33:03they got bad information like this kid was a if
- 33:06you we'll get to what your thoughts have been for
- 33:09you watch him now for three years. But Andrew, I
- 33:11look at this guy, I go, how to bleep? Are
- 33:14you gonna let this guy drop the seventh round and
- 33:16give me your thoughts for the last three years and
- 33:18what you've seen also over the fifteen practice of this guy.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the only thing I can think of. And this
- 33:22doesn't even make sense because you could still you find
- 33:25talent that sort of disputsed this, but maybe just because
- 33:28he was undersized. Yeah, but he has long arms, he's physical,
- 33:31he's quick, he uses leverage to his advantage. Landon Dickerson
- 33:35said that he's really awkward to block, and he's meant
- 33:37that the nicest way possible because of his unique dimensions.
- 33:41And he's also powerful despite being about two ninety to
- 33:44two ninety five. In fact that I spoke to Joe
- 33:47Botonio after practice and asked him about Borro Jomo and
- 33:51he was impressed with him. He said he went up
- 33:53against him a bunch talked about how powerful he is
- 33:56and how smart he is, and so I think that
- 33:59is a com theme when you go back to what
- 34:01Landon Dickerson said about him, what Dane Johnson said about him,
- 34:05what Tyler Steen has said about him. This is a
- 34:07player who has been a disruptive force really over the
- 34:10last two summers, and there isn't a practice or a
- 34:13series that he's not making an impact one way or another.
- 34:16Speaker 1: It's a great story of development. Kudos to Howie Roseman
- 34:19for drafting him. Whoever their area scout is, it's probably
- 34:22cam Bradfield because that's the Texas area and just everyone
- 34:26who's involved in this this draft pick. I mean, this
- 34:29guy he's got. I mean, there's there's something here, but
- 34:32you nailed it with the size. That's going to be
- 34:34the issue once we get into the regular season is
- 34:37how he holds up physically, because let's face it, I
- 34:41know Gabe hol has done a good job. Now thankfully
- 34:43the shoulder ergry turn up be very minor, but they
- 34:46just don't have any experience behind o Joemo, Davis and Carter,
- 34:50and they need these guys to hold up because they
- 34:52don't have the depth. Now that Thomas Booker was traded
- 34:54so we'll see how that shakes out. Let Let's get
- 34:57to the inside backer group quickly. Here so mentioned Trotter,
- 35:01you thought had a great practice, one of the great
- 35:02practices this week. We know Dean won't be back till
- 35:04some time after the season starts, hopefully sooner rather than later.
- 35:07But that's a bad injury to Teller Tendon. But give
- 35:10me your thoughts on Jihad Campbell, trot you and and
- 35:13this Dallas Gamp by the way, and smile Mond. Then
- 35:16they got pretty good length. What do you what are
- 35:17your thoughts of these?
- 35:18Speaker 2: And Lance Dixon too rookie rookie for agent from Toledo. Yeah,
- 35:23I think as a whole, and I don't think this
- 35:25is hyperbole, Adam. He can be hard pressed to identify
- 35:29an Eagles linebacking that is this well rounded, this equipped
- 35:32to be viable for the foreseeable future. They have a
- 35:37collection of players with unique skill sets. I talked about Trotter.
- 35:40He's the you know, the play recognition, the instincts, the
- 35:43reactive type of player. Campbell is the physical enforcer who
- 35:48can He's sort of the new age NFL linebacker. And
- 35:51when it all comes together and he's able to to
- 35:53really tap into his coverage acumen. I mean he's he's
- 35:57gonna be him and Zach Bond together as a tandem.
- 35:59I think they're going to play off each other really well.
- 36:02He's also a Salid Blitzer and then smile Mind and Junior.
- 36:06He's undersize, but he's he plays bigger than his size.
- 36:09He's physical and he's rangy. He's made some really nice
- 36:12plays in coverage. And you talked about Dallas Gand and
- 36:15Lance Dixon and some of those other players that they're
- 36:20they're too deep right now, they might not even be
- 36:22able to I mean they look at the practice squad
- 36:24for some of them.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Yeah. In fact, I would say, to add to your point,
- 36:29it's turned out to be better than I thought. Now
- 36:31I could see why the Eagles opted against unless someone
- 36:33else got hurt to sign another player, because you still
- 36:37have Bond. Now he's back, trot Junior Campbell's three games
- 36:41four minus five, six and six. So you have your
- 36:43three teams. So and obviously there's no reason Bond would
- 36:47play this week, but you're gonna get a better look
- 36:50at Campbell and Trotter. I'm most like in this preseason game,
- 36:54Mind and Junior know what him walking by me on Thursday.
- 36:58He looks taller than six to two quarter, which is
- 37:00his official size on the combine, but I know he's thinner.
- 37:04This is good look, this is a good job of scouting.
- 37:06They found Gant who looks like he's got a chance.
- 37:08And obviously they know that school because that's Syria and
- 37:11his guy, Jason Kannell's the head coach at Tillia, so
- 37:13he knows him. But Lance Dixon I like him by
- 37:19the way.
- 37:19Speaker 2: He's nice plays, really nice athletic plays in space, but
- 37:23also as a blitzer. He's had some he's had some
- 37:26plays where he's gotten through the line of scrimge, gotten
- 37:28his hand up there and even some sacks or some
- 37:30would be sacks.
- 37:32Speaker 1: You know, it's funny you got two line packers from Toledo.
- 37:34Fancy that, Like, who would have believed that? That's hard
- 37:36to believe. But Max and hook wher. We'll talk about
- 37:40the secondary as we speak here, So moving on Andrew. Lastly,
- 37:45you mentioned Sidney Brown and what he does for the defense,
- 37:48but the big issue is him for uncoverage. That's what
- 37:49Drew mccuba comes in. But mccooba's behind because he missed
- 37:53over a week, thankfully shoulder injuries minor. Brown's clearly ahead
- 37:57of him, you know. And when they go with the
- 38:00base defense, we know that Degenius a safety next to Mitchell,
- 38:05I mean, excuse mean next to blanket ship.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Blanketship.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Right when they go to Nickel, it's Brown over mccoopa.
- 38:11We gotta give mccoopa time here. I'm not we're not
- 38:13writing anything. So this one is clearly open. This is fluid,
- 38:16but Brown's clearly ahead of him. Where do you think
- 38:18this thing's going.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It's interesting because Sidney Brown has taken obviously the lion's
- 38:24share of the snaps opposite Reed blanket Ship. Mccooba's making
- 38:27up for lost time. He's working in, he's mixing in
- 38:29with the first team, and I think, well, he's gonna
- 38:32make his preseason debut on Saturday. Then you could start
- 38:35to build off of that. And I do expect f
- 38:37for that game that you'll see him get a little
- 38:40bit more first team opportunities. Look based on his skill set,
- 38:44the versatility, the ball skills, the football intellect. That's a
- 38:48tailor made vic Fanagi of safety. Yes, he has a
- 38:51smaller body type and he throws his body around and
- 38:54he's physical, so sometimes you may be worried about whether
- 38:57they can withstand the rigors of a full slate of game.
- 39:00But Sidney Brown as a post player is going to
- 39:04really have to hope, He's gonna have to He's gonna
- 39:06have to showcase his coverage ability or his ability to
- 39:09play in space and process things in order to really
- 39:12cement his status as a starter. In my opinion, Otherwise,
- 39:15I could see him as a situationally based player because today,
- 39:19or I should say on Thursday, was a carbon copy
- 39:22that way that practice rolled out. That that's where he shines,
- 39:25coming downhill, being a heat seeking missile, being physical and
- 39:28craving contact in the way that he does. But I
- 39:31think mccoba has has the cover jacumen and the football
- 39:35intellect that blend that that should allow him to see
- 39:38the field sooner than later.
- 39:40Speaker 1: And remember, mccouba could play slot. They played I recall correctly.
- 39:45I thought they saw him played a little bit of
- 39:47dime and mccooba was playing inside. So yeah, we know
- 39:50you can do that. And remember when you're drafting the
- 39:52first two rounds as a start a round. So if
- 39:54mccooba's ready, you're going to start. Whether it's weak one, five, nine,
- 39:57couldn't tell you. So what happened, Uh when Cooper de
- 40:01Gene was behind Vick is old school. You're not playing
- 40:04until he thinks you're ready, So they're suck gonna throw
- 40:06you in there until you're ready. But the thing the
- 40:09development Thursday kind of surprised me. We know that it's
- 40:11not been a good go for Ringo and training camp,
- 40:14but Andrew kind of outline what you saw from the
- 40:17rotation at corner opposite Mitchell. I was kind of like,
- 40:20what go ahead?
- 40:22Speaker 2: So on Thursday it was Adri Jackson who ruled out
- 40:25with the first team and he was opposite Quinnon Mitchell.
- 40:28They had Cooper Regene at nickel. Of course, the second
- 40:31team was comprised of Keeley, Ringo, Jacory and Bennett. There
- 40:36was Eli Rix who was working in as well on
- 40:38the second and mac McWilliams too. Mac McWilliams, for three
- 40:41practices in a row, has been working on the outside.
- 40:45Nicko doesn't offer hollow praise for the sake of doing so.
- 40:49He's he's you know, offered a ringing endorsement of sorts
- 40:52to mac McWilliams at multiple multiple occasions, and.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Now I would also add when I was watching them,
- 40:58I saw Bennett. You could correct me if I'm wrong,
- 41:01but I saw Bennett come in first with the when
- 41:03he was rotating in before Ringo, Yeah, I think that's correct.
- 41:09I'm like, okay, I don't think so. Yeah, I don't
- 41:12make a lot out of one. And I know they
- 41:13have to. Someone's got to come out. Someone's got to
- 41:15be loose some snaps to Bennett because they got to
- 41:18know about Bennett. They're on a fast track with him.
- 41:21Speaker 2: This game.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Tomorrow night or tomorrow afternoon at one o'clock, we'll give
- 41:25us some more answers. But Ringo, this is a heightweight,
- 41:29speed draft pick. He has to be better. Every once
- 41:33in a while you go wow, wow, look that length
- 41:35showed up. But Andrew, more too often we've seen the
- 41:39last two years, there's a there's a mental error. He's
- 41:42just not there. He makes a mistake. I just don't
- 41:47know what he could be. I have what do you
- 41:49what can he be?
- 41:50Speaker 2: Andrew at this point, So the first two corners with
- 41:52the second unit that I observed at it was Keithey,
- 41:55Ringo and Mac McWilliams. And then I saw Jacory and
- 41:58Bennett work in and Eli Rix's work in, and then
- 42:00jaw Cory and Bennett got some first team reps later
- 42:03on Thursday session. But for Kilee Ringo, to your point,
- 42:07it hasn't come together just yet. This is three years now,
- 42:10he's been here, two years of working with Vic Fango
- 42:12and Christian Parker, the great Eagles defensive backs coach. When
- 42:16I look at Ringo, it's never been about the athleticism.
- 42:19It's about what's between the years and being able to
- 42:22be consistent and the technical aspect of the position being
- 42:26fundamentally sound. He struggles to locate the football and he
- 42:30also struggles in transition, but then there's other plays like
- 42:34you said, where you see that the length and the
- 42:36physicality show up when he's making plays on the football.
- 42:39So you just need to see more consistency there with him.
- 42:43But I think the Eagles are still trying to see
- 42:45what they have in him and give him those opportunities
- 42:47because he does need reps. People don't remember, or maybe
- 42:51don't aren't aware, but he's played three hundred and eleven
- 42:54defensive snaps in his career. Eli Rix has played three
- 42:57hundred and fifteen. Eli Rix has played more defense.
- 43:01Speaker 1: That gives you all you need to know there, and
- 43:03Eli works. We don't talk about him enough. He's been
- 43:05I'll tell you what. He's been a nice story that
- 43:08they haven't buried in the summer like they did last year.
- 43:10The staff clearly didn't like him last year because as
- 43:12soon as they got in there, they demoted him. He's
- 43:14worked his way back way up and it's good for him.
- 43:17We know he could play special teams where he could
- 43:18be a key guy. That's going to be another one
- 43:21Andrew on especially Saturday tomorrow before we get out of here.
- 43:27Are there any players you're really looking forward to seeing,
- 43:29you know what? Like I have mine, I have like
- 43:33Darius Cooper. Of course again, I want to see Brett Toe.
- 43:36I assume Brett Toe will start. He needs their starters reps.
- 43:39Remember last year the only start on offense to play
- 43:42was Mackay Beckton because they wanted to make sure he
- 43:44could handle it. But oh, Montreal Johnson. By the way,
- 43:46Montreal Johnson got work Thursday. If they clear him, yeah
- 43:48to play. I like to see him. But give me
- 43:50some couple guys that you're looking forward to seeing either
- 43:53side of the ball.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Well, aside from Darius Cooper and Brett Toth. I would
- 43:57say I want to see Montreal Johnson Junior, who flashed
- 44:00earlier in camp before he had the hamstring injury that
- 44:03sidelined him for a while. Then on the defensive side,
- 44:06I want to see safety Andre Sam. Andre Sam is
- 44:10making an impact on special teams. He flashed in the
- 44:14preseason game. He's speisty, he throws his body around, and
- 44:18I think that he's really starting to come on a
- 44:20little bit. It's been quiet, but if you pay attention,
- 44:22he's been coming on a little bit. And then Eli Rix,
- 44:25because I think Eli Rix has had a consistent training
- 44:28camp making plays in the football. You see the instincts there.
- 44:31He's had a more consistent camp than than some of
- 44:33the other some other corners. So I want to see
- 44:36if he's able to kind of continue that momentum moving forward.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Oh there you have it. The momentum will be in
- 44:42this game. Who's going to flash, who's going to come through,
- 44:45and who's not. This is a big game. This is
- 44:46the preseason game number two for the Eagles. And for
- 44:49Andrew to check out, I'm Adam Kaplan. Thank you for
