- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard lives second to day
- 0:08Speaker 1: free wide receivers. Now in motion is Bumpas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumps looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Welcome
- 0:34Speaker 1: to Hawk Talk Preview edition Week Forward team. The Seahawks
- 0:37Speaker 1: traveled down to Texas to take on the Houston Texas.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Looking to go to one. No, that's all we're looking for.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But before we get into it, let's bring an asid
- 0:46Speaker 1: Chubby with the injury updates. Thanks bump Well. Starting today's
- 0:48Speaker 1: injury report, we got some depressing news unfortunately, herbal safety
- 0:52Speaker 1: Jamal Adams will need surgery on his shoulder that will
- 0:55Speaker 1: end his season at Coach Carroll obviously disappointed. First thing,
- 0:58Speaker 1: I would just notice that you guys heard Jamal Adams
- 1:02Speaker 1: gonna have surgery. I think it's tomorrow on his shoulder,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and unfortunately he got hit just just the wrong way
- 1:08Speaker 1: and and uh, you know, and he's gonna have to
- 1:10Speaker 1: get fixed up. He's been through this before, and uh,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I mean, you know, he's really rocked by it, of course,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but you know, we're all pulling for him to come
- 1:18Speaker 1: out and get out of this thing, get back as
- 1:20Speaker 1: soon as possible. But really disappointed for him as well
- 1:23Speaker 1: as us. On the positive side, looking like running back
- 1:26Speaker 1: Alex Cons will be back this week after missing last
- 1:28Speaker 1: week's game against the forty nine ers. Yeah, yeah, matter
- 1:32Speaker 1: of fact, he was ready to go. He feels better.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The week off really did make a difference for him,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and so, uh that's so that was the idea that
- 1:40Speaker 1: maybe we could you know, gain a little bit if
- 1:43Speaker 1: we held him out, and so far from when we
- 1:46Speaker 1: talked this morning, he feels considerably better. So he'll has
- 1:51Speaker 1: just to be really active in this game plan. Lastly,
- 1:53Speaker 1: another missing piece of the Seahawks offense has guard Damian Lewis,
- 1:56Speaker 1: who looks ready to go after missing the last two weeks.
- 1:59Speaker 1: They yeah, he was out today, was ready to go.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So he's got to make sure, you know, we have
- 2:05Speaker 1: to make sure we get him through the week. But
- 2:08Speaker 1: that's a real plus to get him back after all. Right,
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's enough talk about injuries. It's time to get into
- 2:13Speaker 1: the Seahawks Week fourteen opponent. What's on tap? What's on tapp?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Seahawks taking on the Houston Texans, who are struggling this year.
- 2:25Speaker 1: They are two and ten. Their only wins on the
- 2:27Speaker 1: season or against the Jacksonville Jaguars and somehow over the
- 2:30Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans a couple weeks ago. I do not know
- 2:32Speaker 1: how that happened, Bump, And I'm just gonna be real
- 2:35Speaker 1: with you, man. Looking at the Texans on paper, this
- 2:38Speaker 1: is a game the Seahawks should win and dominate in
- 2:40Speaker 1: my opinion. I was gonna give you a background on
- 2:42Speaker 1: the Texans this year. It's been a long year man.
- 2:45Speaker 1: First year head coach David Cole has had his work
- 2:48Speaker 1: cut out fromm from the jump. And not only was
- 2:50Speaker 1: this first head coaching gig after twenty seven years as
- 2:53Speaker 1: assist in the NFL and forty three total coaching, he
- 2:56Speaker 1: stepped into one of the hardest situations in the NFL. Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 1: their starting quarterback to Shaun Watson, requested a trade before
- 3:03Speaker 1: he even showed up. Then Watson had all the off
- 3:05Speaker 1: field issues as we know, he's not played it down
- 3:08Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. Then over the last couple of years,
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Texans have lost JJ Watt, DeAndre Hopkins got out,
- 3:13Speaker 1: so they don't really have any superstar players. So after
- 3:16Speaker 1: beating the Jaguars in Week one, the Texans lost eight straight.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And my god, hasn't been a struggle for this offense.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They've been shut out twice this season and scored fourteen
- 3:28Speaker 1: points or less eight different times. They've also had some
- 3:32Speaker 1: disciplinary issues. They're star linebackers. That Cunningham was inactive against
- 3:36Speaker 1: the Colts for one of those issues. He was inactive
- 3:39Speaker 1: earlier in the season because he missed a team meeting
- 3:41Speaker 1: and the Texans just had enough today they released him
- 3:43Speaker 1: put him on waivers after giving him a five year,
- 3:46Speaker 1: like forty eight million dollar contract. Right and things have
- 3:49Speaker 1: been particularly bad for the Texans against the Colts, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: two games against the Colts the Texans were outscored sixty
- 3:56Speaker 1: two to three. These guys have not scored a point
- 4:00Speaker 1: against the Texans since the last six quarters, so the
- 4:05Speaker 1: box score pretty much tells you everything you know about
- 4:07Speaker 1: their last game. They lost thirty one to zero. I'll
- 4:09Speaker 1: just routed through a couple of these things. They were
- 4:11Speaker 1: dominated time in possession. The Texans had the ball for
- 4:14Speaker 1: eighteen minutes twenty five seconds, the Colts had it for
- 4:17Speaker 1: forty one minutes thirty five seconds. India had twenty six
- 4:19Speaker 1: first downs and Texans had nine. India had three hundred
- 4:22Speaker 1: eighty I had totally yards, Texans had one to forty
- 4:24Speaker 1: one three or twelve and the the third down total domination.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Things were bad from the jump, interception, fumble, all this stuff.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna go through all the stats because
- 4:34Speaker 1: it was bad. But it got even worse. Tyrod Taylor
- 4:37Speaker 1: injured his wrist. They weren't sure if he can go
- 4:39Speaker 1: back in the game because he could whether he could
- 4:40Speaker 1: grip the ball or not. But before he came out,
- 4:43Speaker 1: he was five and thirteen for forty five yards. Insert
- 4:46Speaker 1: Davis Mills. He wasn't very good either. He was six
- 4:48Speaker 1: or fourteen for forty nine yards and kind of his
- 4:51Speaker 1: whole year. The head coach, David Cole has been behind
- 4:53Speaker 1: Tyrod Taylor, saying he's our quarterback if he's healthy. This
- 4:57Speaker 1: week he kind of started to change his tone. They
- 4:58Speaker 1: got to reevaluate everything, so we'll see bump. But in short,
- 5:03Speaker 1: these Texans are having a tough season. Yes, they are
- 5:07Speaker 1: having a tough one, and I'm glad that we're playing them.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Let's go, let's get another victory this week, and we're
- 5:14Speaker 1: gonna look at these head to head comparisons and this
- 5:16Speaker 1: is the first time in a long time now we
- 5:18Speaker 1: look at these head to head numbers and we're like, Okay,
- 5:22Speaker 1: we match up pretty well against this team. Now. We know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: like personnel wise, scheme wise, because we watched the Seahawks
- 5:27Speaker 1: every single week, we know where their strength and their
- 5:30Speaker 1: weaknesses are, regardless of what these numbers say. But when
- 5:33Speaker 1: you break down this head to head comparison total offense,
- 5:36Speaker 1: the Hawks are the thirty first ranked offense in the league.
- 5:39Speaker 1: The Texans are the thirty second rush offense. Hawks are
- 5:41Speaker 1: ranked twenty fourth, The Texas are ranked thirty second. Pass offense.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Hawks are ranked twenty seven, the Texas are ranked thirty first.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And then points per game. Hawks are putting up nineteen
- 5:50Speaker 1: that's twenty second and the Texans are putting up thirteen.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Out is thirty two. Switch over to the defense. Total defense,
- 5:56Speaker 1: don't worry Hawks still got it there. Thirty first ranked
- 5:59Speaker 1: defense in the league, Texans twenty eight against the run,
- 6:01Speaker 1: the Hawks are twenty fourth and Texans are thirty second
- 6:04Speaker 1: against the past the Hawks are thirty second. This is
- 6:07Speaker 1: where the Texans have a little edge. They are ranked
- 6:09Speaker 1: fifteenth points allow per game. The Hawks are six allowing
- 6:12Speaker 1: twenty point eight and the Texans are thirtieth allowing twenty
- 6:16Speaker 1: six points per game. Now, if you throw the football
- 6:19Speaker 1: in the air irresponsibly, yeah, the Texas can come down
- 6:22Speaker 1: with it because they got fourteen interceptions to the Hawks seven.
- 6:26Speaker 1: If there's something they do well is these dbs will
- 6:29Speaker 1: get after the football win is thrown up in the
- 6:32Speaker 1: area responsibly. But other than that, I watched the film,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I look at them on paper. This is the first
- 6:37Speaker 1: game of the year where I feel extremely confident going
- 6:41Speaker 1: into this thing. Respect everybody though, of course this is
- 6:44Speaker 1: the NFL, and then they have They do have some history,
- 6:47Speaker 1: no your history. It's not a deep history though these teams.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Given that the Texans are in the Nancy South, the
- 6:54Speaker 1: Seahawks only play them about every four years. Seahawks lead
- 6:57Speaker 1: the all time series three to one. However, the last
- 7:00Speaker 1: time these teams linked up It was a shootout at
- 7:02Speaker 1: Looman Field, with the Seahawks winning forty one to thirty eight,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and it was all about the QB's big time battle
- 7:07Speaker 1: between Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. Both teams combined for
- 7:11Speaker 1: nine hundred and eighty eight yards of total offense, which
- 7:15Speaker 1: is unbelievable because Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and Camp Chancellor
- 7:18Speaker 1: Bobby Wagner, all those dudes were still playing in this
- 7:21Speaker 1: matchup back in twenty seventeen. Russell Wilson said a career
- 7:24Speaker 1: high that still stands today in passing yards with four
- 7:27Speaker 1: hundred and fifty two as well as four touchdowns and
- 7:30Speaker 1: one interception. Deshaun Watson wasn't too far behind, going nineteen
- 7:33Speaker 1: to thirty for four hundred and two yards and four touchdowns,
- 7:36Speaker 1: but he was turned over three times, including an interception
- 7:39Speaker 1: pick six by Earl Thomas. Tyler Lockett Paul Richton each
- 7:43Speaker 1: had over one hundred yards to lead the Seahawks and
- 7:45Speaker 1: d Hot Boy, who went off eight receptions two hundred
- 7:49Speaker 1: and twenty four yards and one touchdown. The game came
- 7:53Speaker 1: down to the wire. The Seahawks got the ball back
- 7:55Speaker 1: with one thirty nine remaining in the fourth quarter, trailing
- 7:57Speaker 1: thirty eight to thirty four, and just he plays Russell.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Wilson led them down the field and linked up with
- 8:02Speaker 1: Jimmy Graham for this eighteen yard touchdown to take lead.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Russell gets the offense to the line. Is he gonna
- 8:09Speaker 1: slam it down? Where's he gonna bake a play? He
- 8:11Speaker 1: takes a snap, He's gonna look down field, He's gonna
- 8:14Speaker 1: throw Jimmy gram touchdown. Seahawks Jimmy Graham on a shot
- 8:21Speaker 1: right down the middle of the field. Are you kidding me?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Holy Catfish? Want a play? Want a five and eighteen
- 8:31Speaker 1: yard play? And the twelves aren't going nuts? I remember
- 8:36Speaker 1: that game specifically other than all the fireworks, because Steve
- 8:39Speaker 1: Rabel had lost his voice going into that game. As
- 8:42Speaker 1: he saw it wasn't the typical Steve Rabel voice to
- 8:45Speaker 1: finish out a call, especially in a big time moment.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So happy Rabel got some tea and was healthy after
- 8:50Speaker 1: that game. But it was a tough moment. So anyway,
- 8:53Speaker 1: long story short, the Seahawks have owned the Texans in
- 8:55Speaker 1: their four matchups, going three in one. Hopefully we'll see
- 8:58Speaker 1: some more fireworks offensively and the Seahawks will be able
- 9:01Speaker 1: to shut them out on offense. All right, let's check
- 9:04Speaker 1: in what's going on in the NFC West with what's
- 9:06Speaker 1: the word and the Seahawks where the NFC West champs? Again,
- 9:15Speaker 1: what's the word in the West? On hot talk? NFC
- 9:21Speaker 1: Weston's doing what it does. The errors on the Cardinals
- 9:23Speaker 1: are ten and two? Are they the best team in
- 9:26Speaker 1: the NFL? I think so. People are trying to put
- 9:29Speaker 1: the package in front of them tenants two. You cannot
- 9:30Speaker 1: deny that Los Angeles Rams are eight and four the
- 9:34Speaker 1: San Francisco forty niners or six and six, but you
- 9:36Speaker 1: know the Seahawks just gave them another. LMS are at
- 9:39Speaker 1: the bottom of the barrel at four in a yes,
- 9:42Speaker 1: San fran you are six and six, but who at
- 9:44Speaker 1: those losses come to your come from the Seattle Seahawks. Now,
- 9:47Speaker 1: the Rams played the Jags last week. The Rams from
- 9:50Speaker 1: the start got it going and it was just a
- 9:53Speaker 1: beat down man. The Jags followed two and ten on
- 9:55Speaker 1: the season. The Rams lost three consecutive games prior to this.
- 9:59Speaker 1: They knew this was get right game. You played the
- 10:01Speaker 1: Jaguars on a three game skid, You're like look, we're
- 10:03Speaker 1: gonna make this happen. The Rams led sixteen to seven.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Had happened. We scored twenty one unanswered points in the
- 10:09Speaker 1: second half win in the game, thirty seven to seven.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford struggled over the past few weeks. He got
- 10:15Speaker 1: going again in twenty six to thirty eight, twenty ninety
- 10:17Speaker 1: five yards, three touchdowns and zero intercessions. Last three games
- 10:21Speaker 1: he threw five, so he's back on track. Cooper Cup
- 10:24Speaker 1: just does what he does. Eight receptions, one hundred and
- 10:26Speaker 1: twenty nine yards, one touchdown. Then he had an interview
- 10:29Speaker 1: after the game and he broke down a play and
- 10:33Speaker 1: made it sound so complicated too, Moss, But it's just football.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I love the response, and I like the way Twitter
- 10:39Speaker 1: has jumped on a touchdown. Specifically, your defender went and blitz.
- 10:43Speaker 1: What did you see there? How were you able to
- 10:45Speaker 1: use that to your advantage? Yeah, he's had a little
- 10:47Speaker 1: three deep fire zone, brought the nickel off the edge
- 10:49Speaker 1: safety dropped down. They didn't look like they're doing a
- 10:51Speaker 1: replacement fire zone. So I knew at the back of
- 10:53Speaker 1: the way we were gonna get three pushing through. I
- 10:55Speaker 1: had all three to kind of run in there if
- 10:57Speaker 1: I could beat my guy and just had to beat
- 10:58Speaker 1: the safety to the end zone. For people who don't
- 11:01Speaker 1: have a PhD in football or hear that play and
- 11:04Speaker 1: just it just jumbled nonsense, break it down for the
- 11:06Speaker 1: listeners to bring it, bring it back to Simpleton's terms,
- 11:09Speaker 1: because even though it sounded really complex, it really wasn't.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Now not very complex at all. Pretty much the safety
- 11:16Speaker 1: rolls down, starting to two high. Safety rolls down. They
- 11:19Speaker 1: show a cover three. Look that Nickel fires me. He
- 11:22Speaker 1: blitzes off the ass. He goes, look, he's not gonna
- 11:25Speaker 1: replace him, So this running back is going to influence
- 11:27Speaker 1: what he's gonna do. Running back is swinging the opposite way.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The second level's gonna to flow that way. Now he
- 11:33Speaker 1: knows all he has to do is sprint to a
- 11:35Speaker 1: certain spot of the film and he's good to go.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But it sounds way more intelligent when you break it
- 11:42Speaker 1: down the way Cooper Cup did. I loved it. The
- 11:45Speaker 1: thing I loved about it too, is even though in
- 11:47Speaker 1: the football world that's not super complex, but it's still
- 11:50Speaker 1: a lot. And that just gives you an insight to
- 11:52Speaker 1: what everyone has to do on the football field. So
- 11:54Speaker 1: everyone who's calling place from your couch. Who is who
- 11:58Speaker 1: is talking at the water cool or at the coffee
- 12:01Speaker 1: stand in the morning or in the break room. Who
- 12:03Speaker 1: knows everything about football? Relax a little bit because the
- 12:06Speaker 1: guys who are playing, in coaching and doing it know
- 12:08Speaker 1: a lot more than you do. And that's at the
- 12:11Speaker 1: receiver position. Every position has similar things that they're looking
- 12:14Speaker 1: for in every single play. And on top of that, bump,
- 12:16Speaker 1: the quarterback position needs to know all of it everything,
- 12:20Speaker 1: So relax everybody. But anyway, shout out Cooper cup because he,
- 12:25Speaker 1: as we talked about on this program many times, he's
- 12:28Speaker 1: one of the best in the national football leagues. So
- 12:30Speaker 1: good to see Cooper getting after it. As long as
- 12:33Speaker 1: he gonna do it against Seahawks. I'm fine. Hey, we're
- 12:35Speaker 1: all good. We're all good. There are other players who
- 12:37Speaker 1: played well other than Cooper. Cups sold him. Michelle had
- 12:40Speaker 1: a nice day in the ground. Twenty four carries, one
- 12:42Speaker 1: hundred twenty one yards and one touchdown. Trevor Lawrence Man,
- 12:44Speaker 1: poor guy number one pick got married. I mean, life
- 12:48Speaker 1: is good for this dude. What he loses twice in college,
- 12:50Speaker 1: maybe once in high school and he is just going
- 12:54Speaker 1: through a tough season. He won sixteen to twenty eight,
- 12:56Speaker 1: one hundred forty five yards, zero touchdown, but zero interceptions.
- 13:00Speaker 1: This defeat means urban Meyer will lose at least twice
- 13:02Speaker 1: as minigames in his rooky NFL season as he ever
- 13:05Speaker 1: did in any of his seventeen seasons as head coach.
- 13:09Speaker 1: At the college level. That NFL will humble your you
- 13:14Speaker 1: know what, from Trevor Lawrence to Urban Meyer. You're not
- 13:17Speaker 1: just gonna come in here and save the day. You
- 13:19Speaker 1: need a real team around you, and it takes some time.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You know, I can't think of a college coach who
- 13:26Speaker 1: came in and just toured up from the jump. There's
- 13:28Speaker 1: always been an adjustment period that you have to make,
- 13:31Speaker 1: no question about it. You look at Nick Saban. Nick
- 13:33Speaker 1: Saban wasn't successful in the NFL. Right, people forget Pete
- 13:36Speaker 1: Carroll was in the NFL for a long time before
- 13:39Speaker 1: he went back to USC and was a great defensive
- 13:41Speaker 1: coordinator in San Francisco when they had all that success.
- 13:43Speaker 1: But you know it was in the Patriots. He had
- 13:46Speaker 1: three seasons took him the playoffs coach for the Jets too,
- 13:48Speaker 1: but his first couple of seasons weren't great, but his
- 13:51Speaker 1: not great seasons were never anywhere near as bad as
- 13:55Speaker 1: what Urban's going through. So you're right, the NFL will
- 13:57Speaker 1: humble you. And also in the division, billboarded the Cardinals
- 14:01Speaker 1: they were taking on the Bears. Kyler Murray made his
- 14:03Speaker 1: return after missing about a month from injury, and he
- 14:07Speaker 1: just made it look easy. Man. These Cardinals, they were
- 14:09Speaker 1: coming off a bye. Improved his seven and oh on
- 14:11Speaker 1: the road, and each one of those wins by ten
- 14:13Speaker 1: points or more. Jalen Thompson Buddha Baker each picked off
- 14:17Speaker 1: passes on Chicago's first couple possessions. Murray took advantage, linking
- 14:21Speaker 1: up with Hopkins on a twenty yard or then scrambling
- 14:23Speaker 1: for a nine yard touchdown. He also threw twenty yard
- 14:25Speaker 1: touchdown at James Conner, making twenty one to seven, sending
- 14:28Speaker 1: Chicago to their six loss in the last seven games.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Murray completed eleven of fifteen passes for one hundred and
- 14:34Speaker 1: twenty three yards, giving him ten thousand, ninety two yards
- 14:38Speaker 1: in three seasons. On a rough, nasty afternoon, and at
- 14:42Speaker 1: twenty twenty four years of age, he became the fourth
- 14:45Speaker 1: youngest player with ten thousand career passing yards. According to
- 14:48Speaker 1: NFL research, he also joined Cam Newton is the only
- 14:51Speaker 1: players in NFL history with at least ten thousand yards
- 14:54Speaker 1: passing in fifteen fifteen hundred yards rushing in his first
- 14:57Speaker 1: three seasons. Jandre Hopkins also came back from hamstring injury,
- 15:01Speaker 1: caught two passes for thirty two yards. Was used kind
- 15:04Speaker 1: of sparingly. James Conner had seventy five yards rushing thirty
- 15:07Speaker 1: six receiving. Bears just really couldn't overcome all those interceptions
- 15:10Speaker 1: thrown by Andy Dalton, who had four of them. Cardinals
- 15:13Speaker 1: improved to a league best tenants to record. Now, I
- 15:17Speaker 1: don't really know, Bump. I mean, there's not a lot
- 15:20Speaker 1: else to say. These guys are a good football team.
- 15:22Speaker 1: They show a weekend week out no matter who's playing.
- 15:25Speaker 1: So they're gonna be a force to be reckoned with
- 15:28Speaker 1: heading into the postseason. We'll see what happens after that.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Current playoffs standings, all you need to know is the
- 15:33Speaker 1: Niners are six and six and they're holding the final
- 15:36Speaker 1: playoffs spot. Seahawks are four and ain't. Obviously a lot
- 15:40Speaker 1: of chaos would have to happen, but as Pete Carroll said,
- 15:44Speaker 1: they ain't dead yet. Okay, you know me a mister positivity.
- 15:49Speaker 1: They're not done yet. It would take mountains would have
- 15:51Speaker 1: to move for something to happen. But they're only two
- 15:54Speaker 1: games out with five to play. Sehawks went out, Who knows?
- 15:57Speaker 1: I saw I saw a meme, Right, you shouldn't get
- 16:00Speaker 1: information from memes, but I saw a meme NS and
- 16:03Speaker 1: it said if the Seahawgs went out and there are
- 16:07Speaker 1: no other upsets, they make the playoffs. How true is that?
- 16:11Speaker 1: I don't know, but I'm gonna hold onto that. I
- 16:12Speaker 1: hold on. You hold onto the memes you like, right me,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna hold onto that one. Absolutely. Hey, there's a lot.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I'm sure if you jump in those playoffs simulators, I'm
- 16:22Speaker 1: sure there's a million different ways where it could possibly happen. Shoot,
- 16:25Speaker 1: going into last week, there was a scenario where the
- 16:28Speaker 1: Lions can make the playoffs. I mean, I don't think
- 16:31Speaker 1: it's still possible, but they did some crazy thing and
- 16:35Speaker 1: they were still mathematically not eliminated. So I'm saying there's
- 16:38Speaker 1: a chance. I know it's a long shot. I know
- 16:40Speaker 1: people listen are probably crush me for it. I'm not
- 16:42Speaker 1: I'm not thinking that far. Seahawks didn't need to take
- 16:44Speaker 1: care of business on Sunday. But I'm saying there's a chance.
- 16:47Speaker 1: But anyway, let's get back to those Houston Texans. Man
- 16:50Speaker 1: up is this man on Hawk Talk? First matchup? We're
- 17:03Speaker 1: gonna look at Texas quarterback versus the Seahawks defense, Tyrod Taylor. Man,
- 17:08Speaker 1: this fella right here might be the unluckiest quarterback in
- 17:12Speaker 1: the NFL. He has lost his starting job three times
- 17:15Speaker 1: already in his career. He lost it in Buffalo to
- 17:17Speaker 1: Nathan Peterman. Why, I don't know, Nathan Peterman, don't get it.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Then he loses his job in Cleveland when he got
- 17:24Speaker 1: a concussion. In the Baker Mayfield took over. He's been
- 17:26Speaker 1: to start ever since. That makes more sense. You knew
- 17:28Speaker 1: Baker was eventually going to be the guy who's waiting
- 17:31Speaker 1: for his term. And then in La he lost it
- 17:34Speaker 1: when a team doctor accidentally punctured his lung. Given justin
- 17:38Speaker 1: Herbert the keys to the car. We knew that was
- 17:40Speaker 1: gonna happen too. But it's kind of like just how
- 17:42Speaker 1: he has lost his job. This guy is just super unlucky.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Can't catch a break now. This year, he started the
- 17:49Speaker 1: season as QB one started the first game. Excuse me started,
- 17:53Speaker 1: started the game and then injured his hamstring. Injured his hamstring.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He's banged up again. It feels like the injury bug
- 18:01Speaker 1: and the unfortunate bug just follows Tyrod Taylor around. He
- 18:04Speaker 1: misses the next six game games. His replacement, David Mills,
- 18:07Speaker 1: will go oh and six on those ball games. Taylor returns,
- 18:09Speaker 1: he goes one and three. Taylor left the game Sunday
- 18:12Speaker 1: with a risk injury. He was five or thirteen forty
- 18:14Speaker 1: five yards. Mills comes in, didn't do much six to
- 18:17Speaker 1: fourteen forty nine yards. Then you gotta look at that online.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Lots of injuries and shuffling on online. Let's impacted both quarterbacks.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You gotta have a quarterback, obviously, but you gotta have
- 18:26Speaker 1: an on line to protect as a starter or while
- 18:29Speaker 1: Taylor's in there. He was ninety one to one fifty
- 18:31Speaker 1: nine hundred six six yards, five touchdowns, five interceptions, nineteen
- 18:34Speaker 1: carries one hundred and fifty one yards and three touchdowns.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Mills one forty six two twenty three fourteen hundred yards,
- 18:40Speaker 1: seven touchdowns, eight interceptions. Head coach Coolly, we'll name a
- 18:45Speaker 1: starter later this week. All right, the Seahaw defense needs
- 18:48Speaker 1: to shut down whoever's at the QB spot Tyrod Taylor's
- 18:51Speaker 1: has some good years, He's has some good moments. I
- 18:53Speaker 1: think those moments are behind him, and I feel like
- 18:55Speaker 1: Mills just wants to turn the ball over anyway. The
- 18:58Speaker 1: Texas are thirty first in passing and they are thirty
- 19:01Speaker 1: seconds when it comes to points per game, averaging thirteen.
- 19:05Speaker 1: This is set up for the Seahawks defense to continue
- 19:08Speaker 1: to grow and be dominant. You need to take careful ball,
- 19:12Speaker 1: team ass Andrey's on an old line and no stability
- 19:15Speaker 1: at the quarterback position, no question about it. They're dead
- 19:18Speaker 1: lasting points per game, they can't score, They're thirty first
- 19:21Speaker 1: and pat I mean they everything. The Seahawks have had
- 19:23Speaker 1: tough moments, so I'm not saying that obviously this year offensively,
- 19:27Speaker 1: but everything the Texans do, it's a grind, it's a fight.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So if the Seahawks really need to take advantage defensively
- 19:33Speaker 1: when it comes to the next matchup, QB one for
- 19:36Speaker 1: the Seahawks Russell Wilson against the Texans defense. Russell played
- 19:39Speaker 1: his best game since returning from the finger injury, and
- 19:41Speaker 1: it wasn't close. Last week against the forty nine ers,
- 19:44Speaker 1: he was an efficient thirty to thirty seven two hundred
- 19:46Speaker 1: and thirty one yards, two touchdowns, and he was able
- 19:49Speaker 1: to get the Seahawks in a rhythm for really the
- 19:51Speaker 1: first time since we've seen since that Jaguars game on Halloween.
- 19:54Speaker 1: So it's been a while, and I expect this trend
- 19:56Speaker 1: to continue the Texans. They're twenty eighth overall defense, towards
- 20:00Speaker 1: the bottom of the league, and they're dead last stopping
- 20:02Speaker 1: the run. They're thirtieth in points per game line twenty six,
- 20:05Speaker 1: So I feel like Russells should have a big day
- 20:07Speaker 1: building off of what we saw. Head coach Pe Carroll
- 20:10Speaker 1: talked about it last week. He got to the eight
- 20:12Speaker 1: week mark from his injury, when he was supposed to
- 20:14Speaker 1: tecking me back the first time. He expected him to
- 20:17Speaker 1: be his closer to his normal self, the best performance
- 20:20Speaker 1: we've seen from him. Predicted that before the game. It
- 20:22Speaker 1: came true, and I expect nothing, nothing less from the
- 20:25Speaker 1: quarterback on Sunday against Texans. All right, next matchup, Texans
- 20:30Speaker 1: running back verse the Seahawks front seven. Guess who the
- 20:33Speaker 1: Texans leading rusher is. Nasa Choby's mark ingram ninety two
- 20:36Speaker 1: carries twenty ninety four yards, one touchdown. But he ain't
- 20:39Speaker 1: there no more. He has gone. He is back with
- 20:41Speaker 1: the saying, so they're gonna rely on guys like David Johnson. Say.
- 20:44Speaker 1: He's the second leading the rusher on the team. Fifty
- 20:46Speaker 1: six cars one hundred seventy six yards, averaging three point
- 20:49Speaker 1: one yards per carry. He has twenty eight receptions for
- 20:51Speaker 1: two hundred and fourteen yards and one receiving touchdown. David
- 20:56Speaker 1: Johnson man, remember when he was with the Arizona Cardinals,
- 20:59Speaker 1: an excitement that he had, and something happened when he
- 21:01Speaker 1: went to the Texas just fell off a little bit.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Tyrod Taylor is a third leading rusher while playing in
- 21:06Speaker 1: only six games. And then you have Rex Burkhead, who
- 21:11Speaker 1: has shown some explosiveness. It's not the guy that we
- 21:15Speaker 1: were used to see him, but I broke down a
- 21:18Speaker 1: couple of plays and there's some power football going on.
- 21:20Speaker 1: He can still get north south. We'll see if he
- 21:22Speaker 1: can handle twenty twenty five carries a game. There's just
- 21:25Speaker 1: not much in that backfield. You're relying on your quarterback
- 21:28Speaker 1: to really get it done. David Johnson, who hasn't shown
- 21:31Speaker 1: that he can be in every down back the last
- 21:34Speaker 1: few years, and then Burkhead, I look at his backfield
- 21:37Speaker 1: and I'm not too concerned when it comes to the
- 21:41Speaker 1: playbackers over there. Yeah, you look at burkheads last three games,
- 21:44Speaker 1: eight carries thirty yards, twelve carries twenty seven yards, eighteen
- 21:47Speaker 1: carries forty yards. They struggled to running football and it
- 21:51Speaker 1: shows there they're bouncing back and forth. David Johnson was
- 21:53Speaker 1: inactive last week with illness and a thigh injury, so
- 21:56Speaker 1: we'll see if he's back this week. But either way,
- 21:59Speaker 1: I mean, whoever's back there, I think the Sehaws should
- 22:01Speaker 1: have the advantage. Last week, the Seahawks held the powerful
- 22:05Speaker 1: forty nine Ers rushing attack to seventy five yards on
- 22:08Speaker 1: twenty one carries. Prior to that game, the forty nine
- 22:11Speaker 1: Ers and their last three ravaging one hundred and seventy
- 22:13Speaker 1: eight yards a game, so they were doing it. The
- 22:15Speaker 1: Seahawks shut him down. Obviously, there's no Deebo Samuel, but
- 22:18Speaker 1: Elijah Mitchell still ball player, and the Seahawks came with it.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Al Woods and all those guys played really well, and
- 22:24Speaker 1: they're thirty second in rushing yards in averaging just seventy
- 22:27Speaker 1: eight per game, so the Seahawks should definitely dominate this matchup.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Another matchup, Bump, I think you'll agree with me on
- 22:32Speaker 1: this one. Brandon Cooks taken on the Seahawks secondary. When
- 22:35Speaker 1: you go through the Texans roster, Brandon cook is the
- 22:38Speaker 1: one guy that scares you. On the season, Cooks is
- 22:42Speaker 1: sixty five receptions, seven hundred and forty two yards, three touchdowns.
- 22:45Speaker 1: He's had four straight one thousand yards seasons from twenty
- 22:48Speaker 1: fifteen and twenty eighteen with the Saints, Patriots and Rams.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Last year, Cook's had a nice first season with Houston
- 22:54Speaker 1: eighty one receptions eleven hundred and fifty yards, six touchdowns.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But Bump, there's a huge draw Boff when you look
- 23:00Speaker 1: at the rest of the Texans offense. The second leading
- 23:03Speaker 1: receiver Chris Conley, he only has fourteen receptions two hundred
- 23:06Speaker 1: and thirty three yards in one touchdown. So if you
- 23:08Speaker 1: can shut down Brandon Cooks, I don't really see where
- 23:11Speaker 1: they go in this pass game. Texas man, he was
- 23:15Speaker 1: like a hidden gym with the Texans. You watch him.
- 23:17Speaker 1: He has speed, great route running, good hands. Man. It
- 23:21Speaker 1: must be frustrating for a guy like him to be
- 23:23Speaker 1: over there and just be handcuffed, all right. Next matchup
- 23:26Speaker 1: DK Madcap and Tyler Lockett versus the Texans secondary. It's
- 23:29Speaker 1: another matchup. The Seahawks should have an advantage. But even
- 23:33Speaker 1: though we talked about the secondary calls and turnovers, this
- 23:35Speaker 1: is DK and Tyler Lockett. Last week we saw them
- 23:38Speaker 1: get back on track. The duel combined for twelve receptions,
- 23:41Speaker 1: one hundred twenty eight yards and one touchdowns. Not huge numbers,
- 23:45Speaker 1: but we wanted more targets. We got more targets to
- 23:48Speaker 1: that guy, to those excuse me, those two guys. So
- 23:50Speaker 1: far on the season, Lockett fifty seven receptions, eight hundred
- 23:53Speaker 1: and eighty one yards and four touchdowns. You look at
- 23:56Speaker 1: a DK fifty two receptions, seven hundred ten yards in
- 23:58Speaker 1: eight touchdowns. The secondary, they're gonna have their handful, all right.
- 24:02Speaker 1: They struggle stopping the run, but they are pretty good
- 24:05Speaker 1: against the past. Like I mentioned, they ran fifteenth in
- 24:08Speaker 1: the NFL allowing the two hundred and thirty four yards
- 24:10Speaker 1: per game and at fourteen interceptions as a unit in
- 24:13Speaker 1: comparison to Seahawks only have seven over there. On the
- 24:16Speaker 1: defensive side, they got Desmond King. He's got three passes defended,
- 24:19Speaker 1: two interceptions. You got Terrence Mitchell, He's got nine passes
- 24:23Speaker 1: defended one interception. You got Lonnie Johnson Junior, four passes defended,
- 24:28Speaker 1: three interceptions. They got some guys over there, justin Reid,
- 24:31Speaker 1: Eric Murray. I mean, again, like we mentioned, this is
- 24:33Speaker 1: the NFL. Guys aren't bad in the NFL. Teams are
- 24:38Speaker 1: bad in the NFL. So they got some guys who
- 24:40Speaker 1: who can call some turnovers. Yeah. Absolutely, this is the
- 24:43Speaker 1: thing that they do. And you said at the beginning
- 24:44Speaker 1: of the podcast, as long as the Seahawks and when
- 24:46Speaker 1: you said aren't reckless with the football and decision making,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think they should be good there. Justin Reid's probably
- 24:52Speaker 1: when I looked at the film, one of their bigger
- 24:54Speaker 1: playmakers in the secondary, I think he does a lot
- 24:56Speaker 1: for them. And they take the football away from the
- 24:58Speaker 1: ball staring them, they're gonna come down with it. So
- 25:00Speaker 1: we'll see what the Seahawks can do. The last matchup
- 25:02Speaker 1: Won went to take a look at is Jonathan Greenard
- 25:04Speaker 1: and Jacob Martin versus the Seahawks offensive line. Similar to
- 25:07Speaker 1: the Seahawks, the Texans don't really get after the quarterback
- 25:09Speaker 1: with high sack numbers. They got twenty six on the season.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Second year player Jonathan Greenard has eight of those in
- 25:16Speaker 1: eight sacks in nine games played. He's also got twenty
- 25:19Speaker 1: seven tackles, nine TFLs, two four stumbles and three passes defended,
- 25:23Speaker 1: so he's doing well there. Former Seahawks Jacob Martin he's
- 25:26Speaker 1: also turning a pretty good player and been successful there.
- 25:29Speaker 1: He's trade to Houston if you guys remember the Jadeveon
- 25:32Speaker 1: Clowney trade, excuse me, and he's second in the team
- 25:35Speaker 1: in sacks. He's got four of those. He also has
- 25:37Speaker 1: twenty tackles, five tackles for loss, and two four stumbles.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So those two guys are are doing some nice things.
- 25:43Speaker 1: They're not gonna get after the quarterback and crazy numbers,
- 25:46Speaker 1: but these are guys you want to stop and they're
- 25:48Speaker 1: effective when they have their opportunities in certain pass us situations.
- 25:51Speaker 1: So stay out a third and long, and I think
- 25:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks offensive line will hopefully stop these guys because
- 25:56Speaker 1: they're banged up too. So this s a matchup that
- 25:58Speaker 1: we'll have to look throughout the week and see how
- 26:00Speaker 1: things are progressing. Because the Seahawks offensive line did struggle
- 26:03Speaker 1: a little bit last week. Jacob Martin's playing some good football. Man.
- 26:07Speaker 1: He's one of the guys. When I put on the film,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, I see I see Jake Barton,
- 26:11Speaker 1: I see you. All right, man, how are they going
- 26:13Speaker 1: to get this thing done? Here's your path to victory?
- 26:17Speaker 1: After forty five waits for the snaff, Michael Dickson puts
- 26:21Speaker 1: it down. That kick is away. If that kick is gone,
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's gone. It's a pass to victory. On Hawk Talk,
- 26:30Speaker 1: get after these guys from the first snap up. Get
- 26:32Speaker 1: after them from snap number one. They don't really do
- 26:35Speaker 1: anything well offensively, and they're dead last in almost every category.
- 26:39Speaker 1: You gotta start from the beginning. I don't care who's
- 26:41Speaker 1: playing that quarterback. I don't care if it's Syrar Taylor,
- 26:43Speaker 1: I don't care if steven S Mills. Both of them struggled.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Both of them are prone to turnovers, and you absolutely
- 26:48Speaker 1: need to take the ball away. I think the Seahawks
- 26:51Speaker 1: can get two or three interceptions this week, so looking
- 26:53Speaker 1: forward to that. But get after those quarterbacks and protect
- 26:57Speaker 1: your quarterback please. Russell Wilson was sacked four times and
- 27:00Speaker 1: hit eight times last week. The forty nine defensive line
- 27:03Speaker 1: is way more talented than the Texans. This needs to
- 27:07Speaker 1: be a huge improvement. Russell needs to be back there
- 27:09Speaker 1: sitting comfy, sipping t reading bucks. I want my guy.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I want this jersey clean. I know we play on turf.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Texas play on turf yea, they play on turf two,
- 27:18Speaker 1: so no grass marks, But I want that jersey, nice
- 27:21Speaker 1: and clean. Man protect Russell Wilson absolutely and staying along
- 27:24Speaker 1: with Russ. I want to see the same rust we
- 27:26Speaker 1: saw last week. He was getting the ball out quick,
- 27:28Speaker 1: he was taking the shots when they were there, taking
- 27:30Speaker 1: the defense gave to him. He's playing consistent, played the
- 27:32Speaker 1: best game since his injury, so I'm looking forward to
- 27:35Speaker 1: seeing that. Also want to see DK and Tyler. They
- 27:38Speaker 1: need eat eight targets apiece, eight targets a piece at least.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I don't think the secondary can contain those guys. We
- 27:43Speaker 1: saw what happens when they get their targets and they
- 27:45Speaker 1: get their opportunities, they're gonna make play. So I definitely
- 27:48Speaker 1: want to see DK and Tyler involved early and often.
- 27:52Speaker 1: With that, I also want to see them run the football.
- 27:54Speaker 1: The Texans I've had trouble stopping to run all year
- 27:56Speaker 1: they ranked dead last where there's ap could be shot
- 27:59Speaker 1: and Collins Dallas homeward matter, find a way, go one
- 28:04Speaker 1: in oh get the first win streak of the season
- 28:07Speaker 1: and keep stacking these wins. NAS working the people listen
- 28:12Speaker 1: to us all over Bump. You can catch it on
- 28:14Speaker 1: seahawks dot Com, Apple podcast, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Stitcher.

- 28:41Speaker 1: feeling the first winning streak. The Seahawks are better on paper,

- 28:46Speaker 1: it done. On Sunday, Go Hawks are down in Texas
