Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Uh, no time really to kill. Is a lot going
- 0:02Speaker 1: on this week here with the Texas log Worns athletically,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and that includes lineman Jake Majors, the anchor of that
- 0:10Speaker 1: offense in front in the center, the log Horns center
- 0:13Speaker 1: visiting with the medium.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hey Jake, how similar or different is the Ohio State's
- 0:23Speaker 2: defensive front to Georgia?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Good question.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I would just say that the very big upfront, you know,
- 0:35Speaker 4: they kind of replicate sec front, very talented linebackers, very
- 0:40Speaker 4: sound secondary. So for us, you know, it's you know,
- 0:46Speaker 4: we just got to own our game plan and trust
- 0:49Speaker 4: our techniques to put us in the right position against
- 0:51Speaker 4: these guys.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, his game everything.
- 0:56Speaker 5: It means being you know, half hour or so from
- 1:00Speaker 5: all the guys in DFW. For you personally, what's the
- 1:04Speaker 5: best part about playing this game so close to home?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Yeah, like you said, just playing close to home. I
- 1:12Speaker 4: grew up in Prosper which is about an hour away
- 1:14Speaker 4: from Arlington, So to know that, you know, it'll be
- 1:19Speaker 4: an easy transition for my parents and my girlfriend's family
- 1:22Speaker 4: and stuff like that. It means a lot, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 4: close for my extended family to come from West Texas.
- 1:29Speaker 4: So I'm just excited to be able to stay in
- 1:33Speaker 4: the great state of Texas and play a football game
- 1:36Speaker 4: at and T Stadium. I'm a Cowboys fan, so means
- 1:42Speaker 4: a lot more to me because I you know, I'm
- 1:44Speaker 4: a big Cowboys fan.
- 1:46Speaker 6: So hey, Jake, just given where the program was when
- 1:50Speaker 6: you first arrived to where it is now, is there
- 1:53Speaker 6: a sense of pride that you are leaving a program
- 1:56Speaker 6: in much better shape than what you founded?
- 2:00Speaker 7: Uh?
- 2:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just I'm happy to be a part of it.
- 2:03Speaker 7: Man.
- 2:04Speaker 4: You know, when I first committed to UT I've said
- 2:06Speaker 4: this a good bit and I'll say it again. My
- 2:10Speaker 4: commitment wasn't just you know, for my personal wellbeing. It
- 2:13Speaker 4: was to bring Texas back to where it belonged, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 4: in the early two thousands. So to say that I've
- 2:21Speaker 4: been a part of this journey for Texas has been
- 2:23Speaker 4: a true blessing. All glory to God for being here,
- 2:27Speaker 4: being this in this exact moment, getting ready to prayer
- 2:30Speaker 4: for a historic game like the Cotton Bowl. And you know,
- 2:35Speaker 4: all credits to coach sark as well, because without him,
- 2:38Speaker 4: he wouldn't have set the blueprint, you know, the foundation
- 2:41Speaker 4: for this program.
- 2:43Speaker 8: Jake. Obviously you guys on offense have really jumped out
- 2:46Speaker 8: the fast starts, you know, against Clemson and again Arizona State.
- 2:52Speaker 8: How much do you need that same sense of urgency?
- 2:56Speaker 8: You know, given how Ohio State is playing loose in
- 2:59Speaker 8: conf scoring a ton of points.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I think everybody's objective is to come out swinging and
- 3:07Speaker 4: come out fast and have a hot start. Well, like
- 3:10Speaker 4: you said, it's very important my hot state's playing really
- 3:13Speaker 4: good football right now, and you know, if we want
- 3:16Speaker 4: a chance, we got to match that and exceed that.
- 3:18Speaker 4: So we gotta put our best foot forward and come
- 3:22Speaker 4: out swinging and you know, come out fast.
- 3:26Speaker 9: Hey, Jake, just real quick, I wanted to ask about
- 3:28Speaker 9: fourth and thirteen gainst Arizona State, when those guys were
- 3:31Speaker 9: creeping to the line. How much of that was did
- 3:35Speaker 9: you see? Or was that was that all Quinn seeing that?
- 3:38Speaker 9: Or what's your dvantage point and take.
- 3:41Speaker 2: On that whole play? Yeah?
- 3:43Speaker 4: For me, you know, it was easy for me to
- 3:46Speaker 4: see and I was I was about ready to turn
- 3:50Speaker 4: around and tell Quinn hold up, but he saw it
- 3:53Speaker 4: just in time. You know, total experience, veteran play from Quinn.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Just know, recognize all the the tips and traits of
- 4:03Speaker 4: cover zero blitz and they get us in the right
- 4:05Speaker 4: protection to be able to convert on that fourth down.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Big so from your football mind, and when you look
- 4:12Speaker 3: at the Ohio State defense, is there anything that they're
- 4:16Speaker 3: that they do that you guys have to adjust for
- 4:19Speaker 3: in this week of practice or is it a standard
- 4:22Speaker 3: they're coming at you with the bulls? Are they Are
- 4:26Speaker 3: they going to throw anything at you that scheme at
- 4:28Speaker 3: you that you haven't seen before.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good question. I'd say that, you know,
- 4:35Speaker 4: they have a very unique style of defense and like
- 4:40Speaker 4: everybody we've played this year, they're really good at what
- 4:42Speaker 4: they do. And so for us, it's just recognize recognizing tendencies.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You know what blitz is, match with what coverage, and
- 4:51Speaker 4: then just to know, you know what, what are we
- 4:54Speaker 4: going to do to match that. But like you said,
- 4:58Speaker 4: they have their defenses who they are, and so we
- 5:00Speaker 4: just got to prepare the right way to match it.
- 5:05Speaker 9: We're gonna get a couple three more in for you here,
- 5:08Speaker 9: first from Jeff Jones.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Go ahead, Jeff and Jake.
- 5:13Speaker 10: I'm just wondering what gives you confidence that the run
- 5:17Speaker 10: game is going to look more like what we saw
- 5:19Speaker 10: against Clemson than what we've seen in some other recent
- 5:22Speaker 10: games against you know, Georgia and Arizona State.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I would just say that we we as an offense,
- 5:31Speaker 4: you know, the running back room, the tight end room,
- 5:33Speaker 4: the o line room, we know what we're capable of,
- 5:36Speaker 4: and you know, what we put on film is not
- 5:39Speaker 4: our best and so we kind of have a chip
- 5:41Speaker 4: on our shoulder with that, and we understand that there
- 5:43Speaker 4: are high expectations that we got to meet those expectations.
- 5:48Speaker 4: You know, we were frustrated, but at the end of
- 5:50Speaker 4: the day, we were able to win, but what we
- 5:53Speaker 4: did wasn't good enough to our standard. So everybody kind
- 5:58Speaker 4: of you know that next day we kind of walking
- 6:00Speaker 4: around with a chip on our shoulder, you know, ready
- 6:02Speaker 4: to get back to work and get this run game going.
- 6:06Speaker 11: Yeah, Jake, I know you talk about Ohio State defensively
- 6:09Speaker 11: a minute ago, but you faced Jim Knowles DC when
- 6:13Speaker 11: he was at Oklahoma State in twenty one. I know
- 6:14Speaker 11: it's been a minute since that game, but is there
- 6:16Speaker 11: anything that you go back to from that study that
- 6:20Speaker 11: looks similar to what Ohio State's doing now or is
- 6:23Speaker 11: it just you know, is it pretty drastically different from
- 6:26Speaker 11: what you remember.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I think there are some similarities from what I can remember.
- 6:34Speaker 4: I mean, like you said, it's been a while, but
- 6:38Speaker 4: to me, it's just a completely new defense just just
- 6:42Speaker 4: because of his personnel and you know, the type of
- 6:44Speaker 4: players he has at Ohio State and so that allows
- 6:48Speaker 4: him to play call it differently and stuff like that.
- 6:50Speaker 4: And for us, it's all about recognizing, you know, what's
- 6:54Speaker 4: in front of us and then executing at a high level.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, I appreciate the time.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Coach Sark has kind of let us in on it
- 7:03Speaker 7: the last couple of weeks, you know, with the fourth
- 7:06Speaker 7: and thirteen, and I guess audibl into a couple of
- 7:09Speaker 7: runs for Jayden Blue that ended in touchdowns on Quinn's
- 7:13Speaker 7: part against Clemson.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I guess I'm just curious.
- 7:17Speaker 7: What I'm asking is how much does Quinn do that
- 7:20Speaker 7: we can't see because we know about it when we're
- 7:23Speaker 7: let in on it. But I'm just interested in your
- 7:25Speaker 7: perspective on that.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot that Quinn does where that's you know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: audibling routes, protections, stuff like that. There's been a lot
- 7:34Speaker 4: of plays that go unnotice where he's getting us into
- 7:38Speaker 4: a slide that ended up picking up a boundary blitz.
- 7:41Speaker 4: I got us a first down that nobody talks about.
- 7:43Speaker 4: So stuff like that you guys may never see. It
- 7:46Speaker 4: may seem like a routine play, but to us, that's
- 7:48Speaker 4: Quinn doing his job, being a veteran quarterback and leading
- 7:51Speaker 4: this team by executing at a high level. So, like
- 7:54Speaker 4: you said, you know there's runs against Clemson and protections
- 7:58Speaker 4: against Arizona State. Those are just some things of Quinn
- 8:02Speaker 4: that you know, really stick out when it comes to
- 8:04Speaker 4: recognizing the defense and putting this offense into the best scenario.
- 8:10Speaker 9: Jake, all time favorite cowboy and who are the NFL
- 8:14Speaker 9: centers you like to watch play?
- 8:17Speaker 4: I love this question.
- 8:18Speaker 2: This is awesome.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Okay, all time favorite Cowboys. So I grew up in
- 8:22Speaker 4: the Tony Romo era, so that's kind of my all
- 8:25Speaker 4: time favorite. Tony Romo, Travis Frederick one of my favorite
- 8:29Speaker 4: centers of all time. Also Dak Prescott from his rookie year.
- 8:34Speaker 4: You know, he got hurt, which sucks, but those are
- 8:37Speaker 4: kind of my top Cowboys. Des Bryant honorable mention, just
- 8:42Speaker 4: because he was one of the best receivers during that time.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I was watching him and Sinners, you know, playing right
- 8:48Speaker 4: now that I really like watching, probably Cam Jurgens for
- 8:52Speaker 4: the Eagles. I just love the way he pools. I
- 8:55Speaker 4: love his mentality and everything that he does. Who else,
- 9:02Speaker 4: it's my favorite, uh Tyler Biades with the Commanders, who
- 9:06Speaker 4: just love the way he plays. And the other on
- 9:09Speaker 4: would be Creed Humphrey. You know, he's the only other lefty,
- 9:13Speaker 4: probably the only lefty in the NFL right now, which
- 9:16Speaker 4: you know there's not many of us, but as a
- 9:18Speaker 4: lefty you can appreciate someone like that who's playing at
- 9:22Speaker 4: a high level.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Great answers from Jake Major's about that, all right. We'll
- 9:27Speaker 1: be back to wrap up our number two on AM
- 9:29Speaker 1: thirteen under the Zone
