- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41I'm a Die Hard fan. I like those movies.
- 0:43Right? Well, at least the first couple.
- 0:47Once you get to Die Hard 5 or 6 you're like, OK I'm good.
- 0:50It's kind of like The Fast and the Furious, like.
- 0:52Oh yeah, I love the very first ones.
- 0:54Now, now, now I can't watch #10 where they're like flying from
- 0:57space and shit. I'm like, what the, I'm like as
- 1:00they're coming down, they're like family, Family.
- 1:03What the, you know, it's like, yeah, you built a rocket ship
- 1:06and you got a Mustang on the back of a rocket ship.
- 1:08And I'm like, I, I try to suspend belief to some extent.
- 1:13I just don't see how that. That's kind of how so Shaylee
- 1:16watch me. She makes me watch that 911 show
- 1:19and they went into space and it's like she like I like and it
- 1:24has. Right, right.
- 1:25Yes. It has Angela Bassett in it.
- 1:27She's like super like, so like, overreact, you know?
- 1:31Yeah. So I love so so 911's a good
- 1:34example. And then I like fire, fire
- 1:36country and all that, right. And sheriff country and all that
- 1:39hilarity is how many times can you burn the town down?
- 1:41I mean, I mean, yes. Or like it's like, yeah.
- 1:46I mean, it's kind of the same thing as Stranger Things, like
- 1:48how many time we got to keep fighting Vecna the same shit
- 1:51over and over. There's a Nashville version
- 1:52where I'm like and and the first episode.
- 1:54Which we don't watch, which I was highly upset because the
- 1:57same creator that creates all the 91 ones and then and he also
- 2:01created that Doctor Odyssey. Did you watch that?
- 2:03Oh, yeah, it had a yes. I loved that show.
- 2:06And because he's so stretched thin with like the new 911
- 2:10Nashville and all these other shows, they shelved Dr. Odyssey
- 2:14and I was like, what the hell? Like this is way better than
- 2:16these stupid 911 shows. I do and I had.
- 2:19I do. Don Johnson and Joshua Jackson
- 2:22and yeah. Yeah, I do like, I do like him
- 2:24as a creator and I enjoyed the first Doctor Odyssey season.
- 2:27But yeah, I guess Ryan Murphy, I think is the guy's name.
- 2:31Don't quote this. But I think it's Ryan Odyssey.
- 2:32I think you're right, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:34But yeah, I. Like, I like a lot of his stuff.
- 2:37I think he also put together SWAT, which has got Shamar
- 2:40Moore, I believe, too. And I like and I love SWAT.
- 2:43I like that series. I just like Shamar from the
- 2:46young I know you do days. Well, he look, he's looking.
- 2:50He still looks pretty good. He's in his mid 50s, late 50s
- 2:54and all, and he's buffing. Right.
- 2:55We're all kind of the same age as what you're saying.
- 2:57Well, yeah, but. We meet you and him.
- 2:59Yeah, we don't look as good as he does.
- 3:01Yeah, he's ripped. He's ripped hardcore, even jokes
- 3:04about It's so funny was one thing I noticed about him and I
- 3:08like him a lot because he was in Criminal Minds and stuff was it
- 3:11was interesting. He was in ATV show called Birds
- 3:14of Prey, which was ADC superhero thing on the on The CW.
- 3:18And so you remember him from The Young and the Restless.
- 3:20And then I saw him on Birds of Prey.
- 3:22And then when he got to Criminal Minds, he had these nice white
- 3:26pearly teeth, which he did not have and Young and the Restless
- 3:29or in Birds of Prey. And you can tell that the bottom
- 3:32set was not as nice. Anyway, he was doing a talk
- 3:35show. I don't know if it was, you
- 3:37know, one of the talk shows and they showed a picture.
- 3:39Here's your early Young and the Restless.
- 3:41And he goes. He goes, yeah, that's when I had
- 3:43effed up teeth. So he knew, you know, and once
- 3:47you got a little Jingle Jingle money in your pocket, then it's
- 3:49like, oh. You can get those veneers.
- 3:50Yeah, I mean and. You know, 10 grand a tooth.
- 3:53So yeah, he's. He's got it.
- 3:54But it was just funny that he even because I was like, because
- 3:57when I first saw him and saw the messed up teeth and then he was
- 4:01in come on, my mind's like, oh man, he got his teeth fixed.
- 4:03Well, he of course later in an interview.
- 4:05Oh, that's what. Yeah, anyway, it was.
- 4:06Just funny so. Yeah, if anybody got it, I'll
- 4:09take it was so funny. I went to the dentist and my, I
- 4:12have a great, I do have a good dentist and he's like, he's
- 4:15like, And so he has another dentist working there.
- 4:17And the dentist was like, he goes, man, you know, you, you
- 4:21really could use a smile, like your personality.
- 4:23And so he was trying to sell me on veneers, right?
- 4:26No, he was, he was. And I understand, you know, and
- 4:29he goes and he goes, yeah, I could probably get you done for
- 4:31about $10,000. Well, I mean, there's so much
- 4:35other things that I could do with $10,000.
- 4:37Not that I wouldn't like veneers and, and, and I think I've
- 4:41talked about that the fact that when I was with the Wallaces in
- 4:44my book, we didn't get dental care, I didn't get braces.
- 4:46I didn't have any of that. So, so I know that I'm not
- 4:50perfect, you know, and I was very, and I was very happy that
- 4:53Logan absolutely has 100% perfect teeth.
- 4:58So I do understand that the value of teeth and $10,000.
- 5:02Well, when I was 13, I had braces because I had like, the
- 5:06eye teeth that like, way up here, right?
- 5:08And then the severe buck teeth. And then my parents got divorced
- 5:12and neither one of them were willing to pay for the
- 5:14orthodontist bill. And so they yanked my braces
- 5:17off. They do what?
- 5:19No. Yep.
- 5:20No, I'm serious. No, they took them off.
- 5:23That's insane. Didn't continue treatment.
- 5:25And so when I got older and got a little money and then I got
- 5:29myself braces and. Yeah, your teeth look great, but
- 5:32yeah, but. Now.
- 5:33But yeah, it was. OK, what the?
- 5:35F And if they would have, they would have left them on.
- 5:38So I had to have a jaw surgery. I know you did fixed it over by
- 5:41as an adult because they could have corrected it when I was
- 5:44younger and because they pulled them off then.
- 5:48Yeah, yeah, I mean. It's one of those things where I
- 5:51always, I mean, it's like with people, we know our own
- 5:55imperfections. Oh yeah.
- 5:58When someone says, oh, you know, if, you know, if you had some
- 6:00dental work or whatever, you know, or whatever, we're not,
- 6:06we're not, you know, I'm not stupid.
- 6:09So yeah, I hear, I hear what you're saying on that.
- 6:11But yeah. But that story is probably the
- 6:13craziest story you've told me so far.
- 6:14Really. Like, like, like the braces are
- 6:17already on. It wasn't like.
- 6:19Yeah, they were already on. They were already on.
- 6:21I even had to have like the pallet expander.
- 6:23So I had that first with like the little back then it was a
- 6:26like a little key that you had to do yourself, which.
- 6:28Oh my God, that hurts so bad. Yeah, I had that.
- 6:33And then they put the braces on and like it hadn't even, it
- 6:36barely had brought down my eye teeth.
- 6:37Like that's how long I'd had them which.
- 6:39And then I'm sorry, we're not going to pay for it.
- 6:41Just yank those bitches. Yeah.
- 6:42So they took a month? Yeah.
- 6:45Yeah, OK. I thought my childhood was
- 6:47messed up. I'm going to five years is way.
- 6:49Yeah, that I, you know I don't. And it's just abortion.
- 6:52No, I get it, but it's almost like having your teeth repoed.
- 6:55I mean, it's just like it. It is.
- 6:57I mean, and you're 13, it's not like I could go get a job and
- 7:00pay for it myself, like. And when it when it mattered
- 7:04most, junior high, where the kids are the cruelest, the kids
- 7:07are the cruelest. Like they're like people are.
- 7:09So if you've got an overbite or you don't have great teeth or
- 7:11whatever, yes, kids are going to be mean and cruel and so.
- 7:13I was, yeah, I was teased so bad for my overbite.
- 7:17It was, it was horrible. So.
- 7:19Yeah, so let's just repo those teeth.
- 7:21What's up anyway? That's the craziest story.
- 7:26Well, I mean, that's what happened.
- 7:29I'd have a lot of resentment. Yes, I'm trying to think of.
- 7:36I don't know if that's. It should be towards my parents,
- 7:38either one of them. It was almost like like my dad
- 7:42was like, no, I'm not going to pay for it because your mom's
- 7:44not, you know, it was kind of like that situation, which was
- 7:47basically their entire divorce. Like we were stuck in the
- 7:50middle, like ping ponging. They used us as pawns basically.
- 7:53And so, well, it's. It sucks to like, OK.
- 7:56It's not surprising that that happened with SO.
- 7:58Yeah, so I mean, it's, it's kind of weird because it's one of
- 8:01those things where, you know, I really believe for every kid, if
- 8:04they need braces, they should get them or, or Invisalign,
- 8:07whatever they need. I mean, that's, that's part of
- 8:09being a parent, being raising your kids.
- 8:11So I think it's almost your story's almost weird because
- 8:14with, with the Wallaces, well, that wasn't even an expectation.
- 8:17You're not going, you know, I'm saying the teeth could fall out.
- 8:19You're not going, you're not going to the dentist, no matter
- 8:21what yours were taken from you. Yeah, it's kills.
- 8:24Me, it just kills me. I'm like, I'm like, I can be all
- 8:28upset that I didn't go to the dentist as a kid, but you know,
- 8:31now my foster mom, of course, my foster parents, as you know, of
- 8:34course I went to the dentist. Of course they took care of me,
- 8:37but this, but this was junior that this was.
- 8:40Right, which was I was super vigilant about making sure the
- 8:44kids went to the dentist and that they got braces probably,
- 8:47probably sooner than what they should have had.
- 8:49But yeah, I just wanted to make sure that they didn't go through
- 8:52that suffering that I did, whether it's being teased or
- 8:55bullied or any of that stuff. So yeah, your kids all have
- 8:58great perfect teeth. And no, they do.
- 9:00But you bring up a point. It's amazing things in in
- 9:03childhood that you're like, OK, that happened to me.
- 9:06I'll make sure that never happens to my own kids.
- 9:09OK so I put the Mickey and Minnie up in my husbands
- 9:13Christmas village. This is them, the little Lego.
- 9:16They are. Mickey and Minnie, but he
- 9:18listened to the podcast on his way home, so he moved them.
- 9:23Like he didn't say anything to me.
- 9:25And then I noticed like the next day after he was home, they were
- 9:28moved and I was like, shit. Yep, of course he.
- 9:30Did he listened? But I did post a picture of them
- 9:34up in the village. It's on our Instagram and
- 9:36Facebook page. So you can go to Rick and that
- 9:38Michelle chick. Yeah, check it out.
- 9:39See if you can find them up there.
- 9:41You'll probably have to zoom in on the on the picture.
- 9:43My husband did say that I did hide them or put them kind of
- 9:47back to where he probably wouldn't have noticed.
- 9:49That's pretty good. Where Where's Waldo with Mickey
- 9:51and Minnie? I love it.
- 9:52So let's check out the photo and see if you can spot them.
- 9:55I was doing that earlier today. I was like, where's those?
- 9:58Just to zoom in, yeah. That's totally, I know, I know.
- 10:00That's I was just thinking about like, yeah, there's nothing we
- 10:02can we can talk about on this podcast.
- 10:04It's so much like my son's responding.
- 10:06You got a friend who's responded already.
- 10:08It's like, yeah, wait, shall we? Yeah, I got to start taking
- 10:10names out because my son Logan's, like, I can't believe
- 10:12you just said the real name. I think we've had this
- 10:16discussion with you and I like like you weren't going to get
- 10:19that sued because you, you was everywhere.
- 10:21It's real flirting out who they were.
- 10:23Well, I didn't say they were having an affair at the office
- 10:25or anything. So I.
- 10:26Not yet. Not yet.
- 10:28I'm sure. I'm sure.
- 10:29I'm sure. That day's coming.
- 10:30Which, Yeah. Speaking of, you said, you know,
- 10:32everybody sends those messages. My friend Risa, I did want to
- 10:35read her text message because I thought it was hilarious.
- 10:37So she listened to last week's episode and her text said.
- 10:42OK, Hun, I'm really glad you rescued the Mama cat and the
- 10:45kittens. I can't believe how diligent you
- 10:48and Shaylee were too. I do agree that Rick needs a
- 10:52restraining order when it comes to his crazy affection for
- 10:55Richard Page. And three Die Hard is absolutely
- 10:58a Christmas movie. And then she sent me a picture
- 11:01of her mom's nativity scene, and she said that her mom would get
- 11:04so mad at her when she was growing up because she would put
- 11:07Gumby and Pokey and Curious George in with the nativity
- 11:11scene. She has that nativity scene now.
- 11:15And so she said that Gummy and Pokey have gotten lost.
- 11:18She's not sure what has happened to them, but she still has
- 11:21Curious George and he carries on alone.
- 11:24So I thought. That was too, so I love that.
- 11:27Yeah. No, that I, I, I love stories
- 11:29like that. Tell her thank you for the the,
- 11:31the text or the e-mail that that's hilarious.
- 11:33And we do have one going back to the die hard we can add to the
- 11:36die hard is interesting enough. The movie was not released at
- 11:40Christmas time. No, which Risa?
- 11:42The same friend that got her thinking like, Oh yeah, because
- 11:46you mentioned that you had saw in the theater.
- 11:48And then she was like, well, yeah, when did it come out?
- 11:51So she Googled it. I think she said June or July, I
- 11:53can't remember, but it was sometime in the summer.
- 11:55It wasn't even Christmas. Right, so so.
- 11:57It didn't even come out during the holidays.
- 12:00Yes, I almost think that negates the entire argument because yes,
- 12:03obviously the producers, I mean, yes, it happened at Christmas,
- 12:07but great. But they didn't sell it as a
- 12:09Christmas story. So to me, I'm almost, I'm almost
- 12:13on the team of like, no, Die Hard's not a Christmas movie
- 12:15now, right? Which again, there were other
- 12:16movies that had Christmas gremlins, you know, all the ones
- 12:20we listed last episode. And there's many more that I
- 12:22left out of that list, but SO. Yeah, now Logan.
- 12:26Logan, of course. My son.
- 12:27Rebuttal, of course. Christmas with Logan.
- 12:29Says they talk about Christmas all the way through it, but I
- 12:32love the fact that we now know that Die Hard came out in the
- 12:35summer. So I think that I think that
- 12:39squashes it. Let's see Die Hard 2.
- 12:40When did that come out? I'm curious what the release
- 12:42date on that too, because that 1 was definitely July 4th and that
- 12:46was definitely during the that was obviously during Christmas
- 12:49because so you right, they're not Christmas movies.
- 12:52No. They're not Christmas.
- 12:54Themed or. July 22nd, 1988 Yeah, all the.
- 12:58Or maybe they were just trying to rake in the summer box office
- 13:02bucks, I don't know. By releasing.
- 13:04It the summer I turned 18, but was that July 22nd exactly?
- 13:08That's crazy. I'm going to say because of the
- 13:11release date, you don't get to be a Christmas movie.
- 13:15I think we saw, I think we solved it.
- 13:17No matter what, no matter what's going on in the movie, we
- 13:21solved. Thank you, Mic Drop.
- 13:23That's right, next topic done and over.
- 13:27Well before we we win. Before, before we dive into the
- 13:30rest of the show, I just wanted to touch on the Robin Michelle
- 13:34Reiner. You know, my heart goes out to
- 13:36that in the entire Reiner family.
- 13:38I'm incredibly sorry for their loss and what they're going
- 13:41through. I can't imagine losing their mom
- 13:43and dad and you know, it's the fault of their brother.
- 13:46Like I just, I can't even imagine.
- 13:49I, you know, really quickly, I think again, that double edged
- 13:52sword of social media is absolutely atrocious because
- 13:56we're now hearing vile things that people are saying.
- 13:59And it's like, and, and this even goes to the Charlie Kirk
- 14:02thing. I, I'm so sick.
- 14:04So what happened was they, they're, they're, you know,
- 14:07people are taking sides again. And, and then they're like,
- 14:11well, the liberals talked about Charlie Kirk.
- 14:13So we're going to do this, you know, we're going to talk about
- 14:15Rob Reiner this way. And it's like, it's like, can we
- 14:17just stop it? Can we?
- 14:19And, you know, and the head of the snake is the biggest
- 14:22offender there is. And I don't want to go into that
- 14:24because we just don't want to stay.
- 14:25I don't like getting politics, but it's like, I just don't get
- 14:29it. Like, OK, as my as I, as my
- 14:32foster mom taught me, you got nothing nice to say.
- 14:33Don't say anything at all. Just shut your trap.
- 14:36You know, and how can you're supposed to be the, the leader
- 14:40of the free world And you're and you're and you're a kid in
- 14:45junior high or you just, you know, it's like if you just
- 14:48don't comment on anything, I think it's a you know, it's a
- 14:50lack of it's just he has no, yes, he has no empathy.
- 14:53And so I, I and I just don't think he cares.
- 14:57I don't think that we now, we, you and I both know a narcissist
- 15:00in our lifetime, you know, yeah. That now the narcissist has
- 15:03grown up. No, no, but the narcissist has
- 15:06grown up. The.
- 15:06One you're talking. About the one I'm talking about
- 15:08and I'm really impressed because guess what, he's developed over
- 15:12time. Empathy.
- 15:14He's a lot more, No, he's a lot. He has a lot of more empathy
- 15:16because a lot more life has happened to him, right?
- 15:20And so when I talk to him now that he's 40, he really is
- 15:23changed in that sense. I see it because it's
- 15:26interesting, because remember, he was hardcore Republican,
- 15:30like, Oh yeah. You know, like, like he didn't
- 15:32deviate. And now he doesn't.
- 15:34He doesn't. And not to say that he's not
- 15:35Republican, but I'm just saying he's still, he now has swayed in
- 15:41the in the hateful talk or the narcissistic viewpoints or, you
- 15:45know, he's come to develop a lot more empathy.
- 15:48I've seen it. We're like, I'm always joke.
- 15:50I'm like, we've learned, we're learning.
- 15:52And and I really think that that's what it's, I think that's
- 15:55what it's about about to be human.
- 15:56We all make mistakes, we all do. But it's definitely.
- 15:59But if you're learning as you go and realize that's bad behavior
- 16:03or how dare I do, I mean, I look back at a lot of things being
- 16:06God, I can't believe I said that or I did that.
- 16:07I Oh yeah, I'm very ashamed of a lot of things I've said in my
- 16:10lifetime, but I don't say them today.
- 16:13Right. So and so, yeah.
- 16:15And so when you have a current sitting president who just can't
- 16:20let it go, it's. Like it didn't surprise me how
- 16:25he, you know, that that that it wasn't something nice or like
- 16:30I'm sorry for even like I'm sorry for your loss.
- 16:32It wasn't nothing like that. It didn't surprise me coming
- 16:36from him. Well, he blamed, I think.
- 16:39He blamed it on being, oh, he's a liberal.
- 16:40That's, you know, I mean. Right.
- 16:41And that was before we knew that the son had right was involved.
- 16:45And it was. He has a long history with drugs
- 16:47and alcohol and we could, I'm sure we've all had somebody in
- 16:51our lives that has been addicted to drugs and alcohol and we know
- 16:54what that is like as the family members trying to navigate that
- 16:58and get them help. And you know, it's a lifelong
- 17:02thing and that's the conversation.
- 17:04Before he even knew what was what had happened, he had
- 17:08commented. That's the conversation Logan
- 17:10and I have a lot of because one of the conversations we get in a
- 17:12lot about is a genetic lottery. Oh, well, they were born into
- 17:16wealth, you know, so they, they, yeah, you're right.
- 17:19They got, they got the running start.
- 17:20You know, they, that the person born into wealth has the running
- 17:23start, but then it also turns to tragedy like this too.
- 17:27So you can't just say, well, just because they're, they're
- 17:29wealthy, they're better off or they, you know, those, those
- 17:32different things. I've I've never believed that
- 17:34because having, you know, there was this great Cosby Show
- 17:38episode where Theo's like, you know, I'm rich and he goes, no,
- 17:41the parents go, no, we're rich. You're poor.
- 17:45And I, you know, not to bring Bill Cosby into it, but I'd
- 17:47always love that. I always love that line was
- 17:49like, and so I enjoy when I've watched nepo babies or whatever,
- 17:54you know, and they talk about their parents or whatever,
- 17:56they're like, my parents are rich.
- 17:57I am not, you know, I'm not. And so which?
- 17:59Isn't like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's son, is it Chet?
- 18:04Didn't he have drug and alcohol problems?
- 18:06Chet. Has had issues.
- 18:07I mean they have Colin who's been very successful as an
- 18:09actor, but but no, they all the some of these famous families
- 18:13just because you have wealth and and now we don't know the inner
- 18:16workings of everything. We don't know, but we know
- 18:18nothing about their their personal lives.
- 18:20Like, you know, but it I'm learning just because you have
- 18:22money does not mean that mental health wise you're any better
- 18:27than anybody else. Great.
- 18:29And this is a very sad situation and and again, stand by me a few
- 18:36good men. He's an incredible director and
- 18:39incredible writer and incredible performer and Hollywood
- 18:42definitely lost to you know, Rob Reiner is a is a big deal,
- 18:46right? And and a tragedy.
- 18:47When it's a tragedy, it's even more so.
- 18:50Yeah, it's difficult all the way around, no matter how you look
- 18:53at. It but mental, but that also
- 18:55brings back the question of mental health.
- 18:57I mean, it has to be available for everybody.
- 18:59You cannot. And it's just, I don't, I don't
- 19:04know how you solve it because both both sides are really not
- 19:08interested in solving it or at least they they refuse to
- 19:11compromise to solve it. Right, because the same with
- 19:15drugs and alcohol. I mean, we need more treatment.
- 19:18We need more mental health treatment available to everyone,
- 19:22whether that's facilities or counselors, well, whatever that
- 19:25might be, but there just isn't enough at this stage of the
- 19:28game. But.
- 19:28I think from a political standpoint, I think what what
- 19:31gunks up the wheels on anything, Let it let's say it's universal
- 19:35health or whatever, you know, whatever the situation is.
- 19:38I think when they negotiate, they try to stuff shit in those
- 19:42bills that have nothing to do with what they're trying to
- 19:44solve. And so one of one side of there
- 19:46goes, Nope, that's that's I'm not bargaining on that.
- 19:49And then and then it just never gets done.
- 19:51And it's like, I wish we could break it down.
- 19:53Like this bill is about mental health.
- 19:56You know, it's not about illegal aliens.
- 19:59It's not about this. It's not about that this we're
- 20:02trying to solve this one issue. But of course they try to cram
- 20:05stuff into each of those bills. We're like, well, Nope, I'm not
- 20:07going to compromise on that. So, yeah, so mental health is A
- 20:12and and I think again, social media, it has exact, you know,
- 20:16has. Yeah, has not helped, has not
- 20:18helped in that. Situation, no, it's probably
- 20:21made it a lot worse. I think so, especially for young
- 20:23people. You know, we've talked about
- 20:25that on last week. 'S their whole value is based on
- 20:28what people think about them on social media.
- 20:29The likes and it's an algorithm and it's designed.
- 20:32It's just a slot machine basically in your hands.
- 20:35Like it is designed to keep you engaged in it.
- 20:41You know, for a slot machine, it's, it's designed to keep
- 20:43taking your money from you. Like it has an algorithm, a slot
- 20:46machine has an algorithm. It's no different.
- 20:48So. Now, what's really changed, even
- 20:49maybe from, you know, maybe not physical bullying these days,
- 20:52but online bullying, Yes, if you know.
- 20:54So when you and when you and I were kids, they just walk up and
- 20:56punch you, OK? Oh yeah, it was like, I think I
- 20:59could put in lockers, I mean. I could take the hit nowadays,
- 21:03right now that no, now they won't touch you, but they're
- 21:05going to go online and say, you know, his hair is all jacked up
- 21:08or you know. I mean, it's worse now.
- 21:10Now they're telling them to kill themselves.
- 21:12Yeah, well, well, even, I mean, I God, I just had a friend, a
- 21:17morning show, Mel and Winston over there in Denver.
- 21:19I've known him for a while. I know.
- 21:20I've known Mel forever. And they they on their morning
- 21:23show page, they had to take down the rest in peace, Rob Reiner,
- 21:27because someone underneath says he deserved to die.
- 21:30Oh. God, so they're like then they
- 21:32so they responded like, hey man, we took this down because but
- 21:35it's just the cruelty of the world, right?
- 21:38I mean, really, I mean, would you again, would you have that
- 21:41courage to say that somebody's face?
- 21:44You would not, you would 9. Times out of 10, these people
- 21:47would not. They're cowards.
- 21:49They're cowards. They're cowards.
- 21:50Keyboard courage. That's what we called.
- 21:53It coward, cowardly, you know, and I've learned if I don't like
- 21:56something, I keep scrolling like, OK, you know, not not my,
- 22:00not my thing to get great. Great, because it's not going to
- 22:04do one bit of good if you chime in or say whatever it is you
- 22:07think you need to say or put your opinion in there.
- 22:12It doesn't matter. You're not going to sway
- 22:14anybody's minds. You're not going to.
- 22:15You're not going to change things.
- 22:17It's just going to make you look either opinionated or dumb.
- 22:20Or then you get it, then you just get it.
- 22:22I mean, you just get attacked. So it's not like me.
- 22:24I'd rather just post pictures of my dogs, talk about this
- 22:27podcast, talk about Richard Page, superheroes, things that
- 22:31you know. Fun stuff.
- 22:34Just the fun stuff. Fun stuff.
- 22:36Dallas Cowboys being the worst team in the league right now.
- 22:38Hey, about side of that, we're good.
- 22:39Isn't that normal though for the Dallas?
- 22:41Yeah, they're always mid. I, you know, they're the good
- 22:43news. They're never the worst, but
- 22:44they're always mid so. But hey, give it up to the SO.
- 22:46Funny because they have so much money.
- 22:49They have New York. They have.
- 22:50Yankees of football. Yeah, they are.
- 22:52Oh, they've got the and they've got the talent.
- 22:54I mean, it's not like they don't have the talent.
- 22:56They, you know, but Nope, they can't get it done.
- 22:58But hey, the Seahawks are having a great season and I think that
- 23:00that's they are, you know, so it'll be kind of cool to see.
- 23:02We'll see what happens. Well, this week, Rams, that's
- 23:04going to be, if you get past the Rams, Seahawks is going to, you
- 23:08know that they might, they may go all the way, but Rams are
- 23:11going to be a tough team to beat.
- 23:12Yeah, they are. Yeah, I know.
- 23:14Yeah. OK, well let's jump into fun
- 23:18Christmas stuff. Let's get into happier stuff
- 23:20since we've kind of went down the dark rabbit hole of all the
- 23:23other stuff we just talked about.
- 23:24South white lights or multi colored lights?
- 23:28What do you prefer? I I like the multi colored now
- 23:31Megan's got the white. Lights me too.
- 23:33It's. Got the white light?
- 23:35Yeah, Megan's got the white lights.
- 23:37And before we go into lights, happy birthday.
- 23:39I you know that you moved your head.
- 23:40Now that you now that you moved your big head, I could see.
- 23:42Happy birthday. Oh.
- 23:43Thanks my big head. Yours is.
- 23:45Happy birthday to Michelle. Thanks.
- 23:48Yeah, the day that we are recording this podcast, it does
- 23:50my. Birthday.
- 23:51It is your birthday hand. I have been shouting on
- 23:54Facebook, which I don't do shout outs to Yeah so.
- 23:58I haven't been on Facebook yet so.
- 23:59There's a little memory page, you know, with your, our photos
- 24:01and different things like that. But yeah, you know.
- 24:03All kinds of photos. It's a rarity that I do a
- 24:05little, you know, birthday shout out.
- 24:07So you got a montage. So just like Casey Case and long
- 24:11distance dedication Michelle and Yakima.
- 24:14Yeah, OK, well, I'm a white light girl, just like Megan.
- 24:17Because I think for me though, it's just because everything has
- 24:19to match. Yeah, I think that's where she's
- 24:22at a lot of. Yeah, we're probably on the same
- 24:24page with that. OK, fake or real tree?
- 24:27We so Megan varies every year. One year we had a Christmas, one
- 24:32year we had a Christmas ladder and from the road.
- 24:35That's cute. No, and from the road it looked
- 24:37like it looked. I mean it's like a tree.
- 24:40So so she varies it. This year we have the fake tree
- 24:44up. Last year we had the real tree.
- 24:46For me growing up on the Grand Rond, of course I'm going to go
- 24:48real tree if I can have it. Right.
- 24:50But but but fake is the easiest to to maintain and.
- 24:53Yes, so we have fake trees, but that's is because my husband is
- 24:57allergic to pine trees. Didn't know that.
- 24:59They found that out when he was really little and they cut down
- 25:02a tree and stuck it in there and he was.
- 25:04Cabin and all that. No, he like was like almost
- 25:08dying, like his throat was closing.
- 25:11Yeah, he's fine out in the woods.
- 25:13It's just if it's in a small, you know, building or.
- 25:18Room or whatever the case might be, is it the pine?
- 25:20So we can't have like pine. Like it's the SAP I think if I
- 25:24remember. Right.
- 25:25OK. So not the not the smell of pine
- 25:28or any of that. No, no.
- 25:30So. So we have never had real tree
- 25:33as long as I've been with him. But growing up, that is one of
- 25:37the very few memories, good memories I have.
- 25:39Growing up is once in a while we would go up sledding in the
- 25:42mountains and take hot chocolate and cut down our Christmas tree.
- 25:46And so. Yeah.
- 25:47And of course it was usually around my birthday, so that made
- 25:50it special. So.
- 25:52I love that. No, that was as a kid growing
- 25:54up, that was the best. My my foster dad would go out
- 25:56and get up down the tree. So on the on the grand run, we
- 25:59definitely had a real tree always, every single year.
- 26:02And yeah, that and so right now, yeah.
- 26:04So Megan, we, we bounce back and forth.
- 26:05We got the fake, we got the real.
- 26:07And then the ladder comes out too.
- 26:09Once in a while. Once in a while, yeah.
- 26:11You just rotate, at least do something like every year or
- 26:14something different. Megan is very, very Christmassy.
- 26:17I mean the whole upstairs is decorated, so she means.
- 26:20Yeah, that's how our house. Is yeah, she's got and the
- 26:22outside is all decorated, so yeah, she's hard.
- 26:25She's hardcore Christmas. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:28Which the outside of our house, I should take a picture of it
- 26:31because it is a lot. And we discovered Shaylee was in
- 26:35helping with marching band. She was checking over the summer
- 26:38and she discovered that the house across the street from US,
- 26:40the one of the girls lives in that house.
- 26:42They kind of figured out where each other lived.
- 26:44And the girl across the street, which their house is only one
- 26:47story. Our house is 2 stories and she
- 26:49said and their house is newer so they don't their trees aren't as
- 26:52full in their bushes. Our house has been around for 20
- 26:54years. So our trees are pretty pretty
- 26:56good size and she said that her dad comments that our house is
- 27:01his nemesis because he can never do his Christmas lights as good
- 27:06as ours. Yeah.
- 27:08He just doesn't have the house size.
- 27:11House size, yeah, Yeah. So I just thought that was
- 27:15funny. And so now I use that to get my
- 27:17husband to do more outside. I love it, I love it.
- 27:20Remember the neighbors? We got it.
- 27:21We got to be the neighbors. Well, you have it like so Megan,
- 27:24like we have, we don't have any necessarily trees, but we have
- 27:26some bushes and stuff. So she's got yeah, we have like
- 27:281 tree out front that's got lights in it.
- 27:30Yeah, yeah. So yeah, she does those kind of
- 27:32those different things. Yeah.
- 27:33But she's got, she's got a drink.
- 27:35An elf out there. I don't know, she got an elf out
- 27:37there. Which my husband put up the
- 27:41forever lights, OK, that go like right up against the house.
- 27:46We we also have the icicle lights, but these are the ones
- 27:48that stay up and then you control them with the app and
- 27:51you could change them. Oh wow, your colors you want
- 27:54whatever sequence you want. So wow, for Valentine's I could
- 27:58make them red and pink. For the 4th of July.
- 28:02Yeah, yeah. Wow.
- 28:03Halloween. You could do orange and black,
- 28:05Yes. Oh yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
- 28:07OK. Yeah.
- 28:08So those just went up this year. So we'll see.
- 28:12You win, you win, you win. We'll see.
- 28:16We'll see how these fare for the year.
- 28:18I mean, this is the first time they've gone up.
- 28:21So I mean, they look really good with the rest of our lights.
- 28:23But we've also had to add, like I said, the icicle lights, it
- 28:26can't just be them up against the house because it's just not
- 28:29enough light, at least for my husband.
- 28:32So. So yeah, we'll see how they look
- 28:35when it's just them, so. You basically want to land a 747
- 28:38at your place. I mean, pretty much, you know,
- 28:40if I could have a spotlight out there.
- 28:42That's right. That's right, if you get true
- 28:44exactly like oh we can just just use Michelle's house to land
- 28:47this planes. Actually, it's like that, yeah.
- 28:50It's hilarious. So do you have any special like
- 28:55Christmas traditions that you would do like with Logan growing
- 28:58up or anything? Not necessarily I'm trying to
- 29:02think of Megan has any I did learn the first year it was I
- 29:05did learn a lesson the very first year we were dating is
- 29:09that stocking better have something in it.
- 29:10So the first year I got her some presents, but I didn't get
- 29:12anything in the stocking. So her did she get?
- 29:14You stocking stuff or? I think she did.
- 29:16And then Kyron was like, he was 5 or 6 at the time, and he goes,
- 29:20mommy, mommy, why didn't you get anything in your stocking?
- 29:24And I'm like, mother humbug, mother humbug.
- 29:28So I learned the lesson too. Damn kid.
- 29:31Yeah, no. Well, it's like I've got, you
- 29:33know, I had to learn. I've had to learn.
- 29:35I've learned a lot from Megan. So it's one of those.
- 29:37Did you get stuff for pokey stocking or is this?
- 29:41I don't recall getting never. Gotten.
- 29:44For adults, I didn't. I didn't.
- 29:46So I mean for Pokey, no, I don't recall ever getting.
- 29:48I don't think we only put Logan stocking up great.
- 29:52Which usually we would only do the kids.
- 29:54Stuff we never put recently. Until the kids got bigger.
- 29:57And then one year my husband bought me stuff after I said
- 30:00we're not buying stuff for each other stocking, you know, like
- 30:02it's not right. And then he bought me stuff.
- 30:05And then I was pissed and so now we just buy each other stuff
- 30:08because I know if I say don't buy stuff, he'll still buy
- 30:11stuff. So.
- 30:11It's gonna do it. Yeah.
- 30:12So yeah, we. So yeah, we definitely.
- 30:14Now the little mistakes I've learned I definitely have
- 30:16corrected with like OK, there there's always stuff in her in
- 30:19her stocking. So yeah.
- 30:20But but traditionally, I don't think necessarily she has any
- 30:23traditions. I don't.
- 30:24I don't recall even with my awesome foster parents, I don't
- 30:26recall any necessarily traditions that we had to do.
- 30:30With the kids, we would take them to go pick out a Christmas
- 30:33ornament every. Yeah, that's sweet.
- 30:36And then the hope was that when they turned 18 or moved out,
- 30:40then they would have these 18 years worth of ornaments for
- 30:43their own Christmas. Tree I love.
- 30:45That so far Benjamin has been the only one that has taken his
- 30:48ornaments. I guess that is stable enough or
- 30:50wants them, I don't know, maybe the other.
- 30:52He's got a little family. He does, yes.
- 30:55So, So yeah, we did that. And then, of course, every year
- 30:58they have to go see Santa, even as adults now.
- 31:01I just made them go do it this year.
- 31:02Yeah, I love that. So which I'm sure they hate it,
- 31:06but they still do it just for me, so I appreciate it.
- 31:10Yeah, no, I love. I love.
- 31:10Stuff like that. It's nothing like Major.
- 31:12Yeah, good visit, good visit to Santa.
- 31:14Randy, my best friend and I in high school, we had a a few
- 31:17years spree where we would make that our tradition.
- 31:19Tradition is go visit Santa as adults.
- 31:21So and I would both sit on Santa's lap and get pictures
- 31:23back in the day. I'll have to pick.
- 31:26I've got the pictures in my photo album somewhere where we
- 31:28where we did it. But yeah, so Logan was never a
- 31:31big. He just not did not like, I
- 31:34mean, he didn't, he just was not Santa guy.
- 31:36So we so I think it's so funny. We have a picture of him on
- 31:40Santa where he's like maybe nine months old.
- 31:43He's got he's got candy cane in his mouth and he's trying to get
- 31:45to his mother. And then, and then he hated
- 31:49Logan, hated the Easter Bunny. Oh well, the Easter Bunny is
- 31:53creepier. But but he never.
- 31:55But Logan Never was never, never at four years old goes I'm going
- 31:59to go see Santa. He just never did.
- 32:01So we only have the one Santa picture and the one Easter Bunny
- 32:04picture and that's it. And then when he asked for the
- 32:07truth, I just gave him the truth and Pokey lost her lid.
- 32:12She goes, what the hell did you do?
- 32:15You know what? What did you do you?
- 32:16And I said, well, he just asked, I mean, so.
- 32:19How old was he when he asked, I think.
- 32:20He was the usual, like first, first grade, you know, I mean,
- 32:24he was. Yeah, that's young.
- 32:26Usually they start asking around like 9.
- 32:28No. Some kids.
- 32:30Yeah, some kid. Some kid at school probably said
- 32:33something and then. He came home because and I just
- 32:35didn't lie to him. I said no, you know, you're
- 32:36right. But but he was now I will defend
- 32:39this, the decision. He was never into it anyway.
- 32:42Right. So it wasn't it was never a if
- 32:44he was into it hardcore, then I probably would have been
- 32:46differently. But he never he never made like,
- 32:49Oh, I got to go, you know, he never, he never said let's go
- 32:52see. I mean, he just never did.
- 32:53So yeah. And and again, he, you know, he
- 32:58was, he was like your kids. He he had a good childhood in
- 33:01terms of he got, he got, he got to make up for the bad
- 33:04childhoods we had. Yes, which I would tell my kids
- 33:08when, you know, as they got older and they're like, uh huh,
- 33:11Santa. I'd be like, hey, if you believe
- 33:14you'll get something from Santa so you zip it like.
- 33:18Right. Especially because they had
- 33:19younger siblings. So I had to be, you know, zip
- 33:22it. You two older ones were older.
- 33:25So they had to like, pretend yes.
- 33:27Of course, and it's really the, it's really the fun even even I
- 33:29know people make fun of like Elf on the Shelf, but I mean.
- 33:33God, I am so glad we're done. Here.
- 33:37No, here's the problem. Here's the problem.
- 33:39Because I did mornings, we would do mornings and you know, we'd
- 33:43have to be, I'd have to be up at 3:30.
- 33:45And so a lot of times I would forget about moving the damn elf
- 33:49or making him do something, you know, different.
- 33:52And yes. And so I would have to text
- 33:54Matthew frantically being like, Oh my God, I forgot the elf, you
- 33:57know, just do something. So because you have to, you
- 34:00can't just move him. You also have to have like this
- 34:02elaborate thing that he's doing. Yes.
- 34:05And so it just becomes complicated because then you
- 34:08have to try to figure out each time, OK, well, what is he going
- 34:10to be doing this time? What is what am I going to make
- 34:13him do this time? What am I?
- 34:14What am I? Also, if you have children, make
- 34:16sure they're not listening to the pod, this podcast.
- 34:18We're going to find out the Santa's not real enough on the
- 34:20shelf. So.
- 34:23Santa's everywhere. What are you talking about?
- 34:25I'm surprised, you know, I'm surprised.
- 34:27I'm surprised that no one has not written a book about Elf on
- 34:30the Shelf with A Hundred Way 101 Ways, you know.
- 34:33Oh, there probably is. We just probably haven't seen
- 34:36it. There's all kinds of like stuff
- 34:38on Pinterest. Yeah, there's.
- 34:39A great, I feel a lot of super creative elf on this, you know,
- 34:43And of course, going back to our morning show, didn't we have
- 34:45Kenny the elf? Yes, yes, that was super fun.
- 34:50Yeah, see, we had Kenny the elf and so little stories like that
- 34:54so. Yeah, he just moved around
- 34:57Yakima. Yeah, he moved around.
- 34:58Yeah, he moved around. Yeah.
- 35:00He had a bigger area to move around.
- 35:04OK, so Logan, what did Logan want us to talk about?
- 35:07You said that he So I have a. Sent you things that really.
- 35:09He sent you a message. We'll go these.
- 35:12Quick Yeah, he said #1 He disagreed.
- 35:14He says Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
- 35:16We've already nullified that because we've already.
- 35:18Established that. Yep.
- 35:19Yeah. And he goes anyways.
- 35:21You guys should talk about your top favorite holiday movies or
- 35:24songs. Which we did kind of hit on
- 35:27movies a little bit. Yeah, Miracle on 34th St.
- 35:31More Express. Favorite but I really mine is
- 35:34more like the TV show like the the classic claymation.
- 35:37Yeah, Rudolph. Rudolph.
- 35:38The Little Drummer Boy is my favorite favorite.
- 35:41OK, yeah, yeah. So favorite songs.
- 35:44You should know what my all time number one favorite Christmas
- 35:48song is. Well, I know what it is, and I
- 35:51can even say right now, well, because we're trying to avoid
- 35:53Wanageddon, so it's last Christmas by Wham.
- 35:56So I do know what Wanageddon is. Yes, that would be a number one.
- 36:00Where are you? Christmas #2 and then #3 would
- 36:04be a Little Drummer boy for me, so it's a good one those.
- 36:07Would be like so me. I'm definitely more
- 36:09contemporary. Wonderful Christmas time by Paul
- 36:11McCartney. Love that one.
- 36:14Do they know it's Christmas? Band-Aid is probably my absolute
- 36:17favorite with the all the rock stars in that one.
- 36:20And then I like Merry Christmas Darling by the Carpenters,
- 36:24because Karen Carpenter has the most amazing voice.
- 36:26And I did turn Logan. Logan got my dad 100 list and
- 36:29Karen Carpenter's in there and he goes she was she's amazed.
- 36:33You know, she's amazing. So.
- 36:34Yeah, I think my husband had a crush on her growing up so.
- 36:37Did Oh, OK yeah, so and then I like Burl Ives, like holly
- 36:41jolly. I mean, I I really like the
- 36:44classics when it comes down to, you know, and then of course, I
- 36:49love happy holidays. Merry Christmas In Sync, and as
- 36:54much as Mariah Carey gives a lot of All I Want for Christmas, I
- 36:56think that's a great song. I'd love that.
- 36:58I do like that one, you know, especially if I don't hear it a
- 37:01whole bunch, then I like it so, but.
- 37:04We we were fortunate that in the ease there was a great Christmas
- 37:08album with the Eurythmics, Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen on it.
- 37:11Remember, Santa Claus is coming to town.
- 37:13So we have some great ease Christmas songs that we grew up
- 37:17on. So and I, I enjoy that.
- 37:20And then what was the? Was there a Weird Al one where
- 37:23the atom bombs are dropping? Yes.
- 37:26Oh my gosh, yeah. Was that the only one he had or
- 37:30did he have a whole album? I don't.
- 37:32Know if he had a whole album, but I just remembered that the
- 37:33atom bombs were dropping and then there was one song that was
- 37:38hot one year and it was by the power station or whatever it's
- 37:41called, and it was called Dear Mr. Jesus or something like
- 37:44that. We had a little girl.
- 37:45Yeah. And I just remember, I remember
- 37:47the Christmas shoes. Remember that song.
- 37:51That one's a tearjerker. But I don't remember the Mr.
- 37:54Jesus one. Usually.
- 37:55I can remember the tearjerker ones because as we're playing
- 37:57and I'm trying not to cry. Oh, they're called.
- 38:01Oh, it's called power source. Oh, not.
- 38:04For that and it deals with child abuse.
- 38:08So. But it's a but, yeah, me, you
- 38:11know, me real dark on that stuff.
- 38:12OK. But it was, yeah, a little, you
- 38:15know, it's kind of like Suzanne Vegas.
- 38:17You just took Christmas from like half, you know, like Sam.
- 38:20So no, but I right now, right now my, one of my stations is
- 38:23the Christmas station. So I, I, I listen to it a lot
- 38:25during the holidays when I'm wrapping presents, different
- 38:27things like that. So I, I really love the, I love,
- 38:30I love Christmas music. So it's one of my my first.
- 38:33Place I love Alvin and the Chipmunks yeah I think that song
- 38:36made like the the top ten like worst Christmas songs and I was
- 38:40like what no. That's that's great.
- 38:42Christmas song. I still have the record.
- 38:44What do you? Yeah, that's a, that's a good
- 38:46one. I mean any of them for me and
- 38:48and even. I want a hippopotamus for
- 38:50Christmas. And even when we do the
- 38:52Christmas station, it is just the the great classics because
- 38:55that's really there's, you know, there's probably 150 great
- 38:58Christmas songs. Yes, least favorite and then I
- 39:01get some hate on this, is Brenda Lee rocking around the Christmas
- 39:04tree. That is like.
- 39:06I have to turn it. That's the classic of all.
- 39:09I know, but I don't know you know what it is about it.
- 39:12But I'm just like. So you can't have.
- 39:14To turn it on SO. You can't go for grandma.
- 39:15Got ran over by a reindeer. Elmo and Pass.
- 39:17No, I do like grandma got ran over by a reindeer.
- 39:19That is a piece of, that's a piece of, that's a piece of
- 39:22coal. The cassette of that one, no.
- 39:24It was like grandma got ran over by a reindeer.
- 39:28That made the top ten worst ones.
- 39:29I know that one. I've got to put for me, that's
- 39:32my #1 because, you know, I think it was the trauma of the
- 39:36Wallaces because they would listen to that piece of crap.
- 39:38And so I'm like, OK, this is just, you know.
- 39:41Well, that's why. That was but yes.
- 39:43But yeah, we do, you know, you know, Merry Christmas.
- 39:48Trust me. But you can sing.
- 39:50You can sing along to them all. Yeah, I do.
- 39:52I do have a question for you, though.
- 39:54So I wrapped Megan's presents. So Megan over the weekend,
- 39:59wrapped all the presents, got the tree up, da, da, da.
- 40:01And then yesterday I wrapped. All of her presents.
- 40:04And then I'd asked her, she was going out, she was leaving to go
- 40:06to a dinner. And I said, hey, by the way,
- 40:08don't try to move your presents around too much because I don't
- 40:11want you to know what they are. And she looked at me and she
- 40:14goes, she goes, why? She goes, I know, I know you got
- 40:17me everything on my list. And and then and then she left
- 40:21and I and I, so I thought, so I thought to myself, am I being a
- 40:26OK, So. So I can't.
- 40:27Well, she doesn't listen to the podcast.
- 40:28You don't have to worry. So yeah.
- 40:30Well, OK. And we've talked about, I think
- 40:32in the past, but I don't know which episode, but you mentioned
- 40:34that you always get what's on the list.
- 40:37Yeah, we've talked about that. And so this year, so this year
- 40:42you did the same. You got everything on the list.
- 40:44Is what you're saying. OK And then how was her tone,
- 40:48though? Was it like it was sarcastic or
- 40:50was it? Like it's kind of like my wife
- 40:52is hard to read sometimes because because it's one of
- 40:55those things where, OK, so she's very like she doesn't, I have to
- 40:59explain this right. It's not that she doesn't
- 41:01appreciate gifts because she does.
- 41:02No, but she feels like that if I just go to the store and just
- 41:07buy a bunch of crap to put in her stocking, she doesn't like
- 41:10that. Well, no, because you're not
- 41:13thinking about, you're just going to the store and buying a
- 41:15bunch of crap. You're not actually right
- 41:18thinking about us and what maybe you we might want or what you
- 41:24think we might want instead. It's just like a throw shit in
- 41:28the cart because I need to fill the stocking kind of thing,
- 41:31right? And that's what we don't like,
- 41:33right? And we want you to think about
- 41:35us and put the effort into thinking about what we might
- 41:38actually want in our stocking. That's what she wants you to do.
- 41:42But it but it's one but number one.
- 41:44And she says she isn't. She says she's the easiest
- 41:46person. Everybody whoever says are the
- 41:47easiest person to shop for is a liar.
- 41:49They're the. They're the worst.
- 41:51I don't care what they say. I don't care if she hears this.
- 41:54They are the worst of all. Anybody, whoever says, oh, I'm
- 41:57so easy to shop for it, you're a liar.
- 41:58Anybody listen to this podcast who says that you're a liar?
- 42:01I know a liar to shop for it, that's why I make.
- 42:04Because because those people are the kind of personalities when
- 42:06you go, oh, I what about this? No, what about this?
- 42:09No, what about this? No.
- 42:11It's kind of like every person says, what do you want to what
- 42:13do you want to eat? What do you want to eat?
- 42:15You know, well, no, right. And then the minute you go,
- 42:17well, how about tacos? No.
- 42:19What about? What about?
- 42:20No Well. No.
- 42:22Right. That's how I mean Megan and I
- 42:24are the same person, basically, is what you're saying.
- 42:26Well, I've I've always, OK, so I've always said this about
- 42:29married people. We all come in different rappers
- 42:32because you're all married to the same person.
- 42:34So when you're sitting there going, oh, that grass is greener
- 42:36over there. Trust me, it's dirt.
- 42:39It's the same brown grass. OK, so your dilemma with these
- 42:43presents is what now? I just was curious because to
- 42:47me, I immediately went because again, back to my childhood
- 42:50trauma, it goes back to like, oh, I failed.
- 42:53I didn't get. Right, we have to please.
- 42:56Everybody. Basically.
- 42:58I didn't do enough or she's not going to be happy with what I
- 43:01got, or even though it's every, even though it's everything on
- 43:04her list, your brain immediately goes I failed.
- 43:09Which and haven't you mentioned that, OK, I think you have on a
- 43:12past podcast that you get everything on the list and then
- 43:16you'll also get a couple extra. Things that aren't on the list.
- 43:19There's some U turns. So that's what you did this year
- 43:22too, right? I'm assuming.
- 43:23OK, well, it's not like then. It's not like you got everything
- 43:25on the list. Then she got a couple extras.
- 43:28She always gets everything on the list plus.
- 43:31Well, I mean. Plus.
- 43:33Most people only get one or two things on the list, so like she
- 43:38should be happy if she gets everything on her list.
- 43:40I don't think she's ever been unhappy, but I But then I think
- 43:43to myself maybe, maybe one year I just don't do.
- 43:46I don't get anything on our list.
- 43:47But then you're going to be in trouble because you didn't get
- 43:50anything on the list. Because then it's going to be
- 43:53like, it's going to be like, well, I don't need this.
- 43:54What's this? Why'd you get this?
- 43:57For it's a. What is this?
- 43:58Yeah, it cuts up. Didn't you?
- 44:00Didn't you go off the list? Why did you get me all this
- 44:02stuff? This stuff wasn't on the list.
- 44:05Yeah, they're what are you going to do it?
- 44:07She doesn't listen, but there she doesn't listen.
- 44:08But there is a couple good U turns on there that you know,
- 44:12but right, it's like now do you guys put a price limit?
- 44:17Jay's always going to outdo you, right?
- 44:20We'll see. Here's where Jay gets off easy
- 44:22because remember I said, which I said on a past podcast, so us
- 44:26because all our kids are adult kids now, we draw names for
- 44:30Secret Santa, and that includes Jay and I.
- 44:32And then we don't, we only get stuff for each other's
- 44:35stockings. And so see, he gets off easy and
- 44:38doesn't have to worry. I mean, he only has to worry
- 44:40about my birthday now, but yeah, so whoever.
- 44:42Well, your birthday is in December and and it is
- 44:45absolutely more and and I learned being married to Pokey
- 44:48who was born the day after Christmas, that that December
- 44:51birthdays get the shaft. Yes.
- 44:54So it was so funny. Being married to Pokey was like
- 44:56it was had nothing to do with Christmas.
- 44:58It's like son of a bitch, the day after Christmas everybody
- 45:01brings some birthday presents. And do not wrap our birthday
- 45:05stuff like Christmas right. Exactly.
- 45:07Oh no, she no. And it drove her nuts because
- 45:09her grandparents, who did have money, would, would ignore her
- 45:14birthday. Well, they, you know, she gets,
- 45:17she'd get, she'd get money for. Christmas Day after Christmas it
- 45:19sound like it was Christmas. Nope.
- 45:21And it used to drive her nuts. And so I, that's one of those
- 45:23things I learned about her was like, hey, you gotta, you know
- 45:26you gotta. Yeah.
- 45:28So. Yeah.
- 45:29So. Yeah.
- 45:29So I get I get that so good for. Hey, good for Jay.
- 45:33But you have a lot of kids and you've got.
- 45:35Grandma. We now.
- 45:36Yes, which, yeah, she did get a lot of.
- 45:39Well, of course she did. It's Christmas.
- 45:40She's not even a year old yet, but yeah, which my best
- 45:46birthday. And this is how sad like
- 45:47December birthdays are. I mean, and it's probably
- 45:50because, you know, my childhood wasn't great too, but so my
- 45:53parents were still married during this time.
- 45:55So I had chicken pox because my birthday is what, a week before
- 45:59Christmas, a little over a week. So I had the chicken pox.
- 46:03I think it was like 5, five, 6:00-ish.
- 46:05I had chicken pox over my birthday and Christmas.
- 46:08And so this is my best birthday and Christmas though, like this
- 46:12is how sad this is. So everybody had to come to our
- 46:15house and I got everything that I wanted because everybody felt
- 46:19sorry for me because I had chicken pox over my birthday and
- 46:21Christmas. So I got like the little playset
- 46:23kitchen and you know, Charles and everything.
- 46:27But that's how bad like December birthdays are.
- 46:30Is that was my that is my favorite birthday.
- 46:32And I think I had one birthday party where more than like 1
- 46:37friend came to. I think I had like, oh wow, one
- 46:40party. I think I was probably in I
- 46:43think 2nd grade and I want to say yeah, first or second grade
- 46:46and like 4 of my friends came. And that was and that was.
- 46:50That's that's the most, yeah, the most ever.
- 46:52So yeah, yeah, it's just it just do not if you're going to, if
- 46:57you're going to have kids, don't have them in November, December
- 47:00or January. Yeah, because you can, because
- 47:01you can decide, because you can decide that nine month window,
- 47:04it's like. Yes, do not have them in those
- 47:07three months. And you know, by February
- 47:10everybody's getting their tax refunds, so they're good.
- 47:14They can buy stuff. Well, Megan's hilarious because
- 47:17she's the exactly one week for her birthday after Valentine's
- 47:21Day. So you you got and, and again,
- 47:23it comes down to I'm not interested in Valentine's Day.
- 47:26There better be something at the birthday rather than Valentine's
- 47:29Day. So yeah, Well, I again, I think
- 47:33for us, Megan likes Christmas better.
- 47:35I like Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is my holiday and
- 47:39Christmas is definitely your holiday.
- 47:40So I was just curious. So yeah, I mean, I know she
- 47:43didn't mean anything by it, but I still got me.
- 47:45It still got me thinking like, oh, and then you know, she goes,
- 47:48it's not she doesn't like because I count up her presents.
- 47:53Oh, you do. Well, I want to make sure she, I
- 47:55I don't. Do you ever feel like, well, no,
- 47:57you do it just a different way. I feel like I'm sure so do.
- 48:00You do you give her a list. How does she buy yours?
- 48:04How she gets a list? Here's the question.
- 48:05She gets an Amazon list, so you. Know and then does she buy
- 48:08everything on your list or? She does not.
- 48:11She just picks a few and then you just don't have like a set
- 48:15amount like or or a set dollar amount.
- 48:18Nope, no, not. Necessarily, one year we spent.
- 48:20Well, one year we did 50. No, well, we've now on some
- 48:24years we've done it and I always break, I always break the rules.
- 48:28So she's like, she doesn't do it.
- 48:29We just don't do it. I mean, she's like, don't.
- 48:31Like the whole don't buy things for stockings, Yeah.
- 48:34One thing that she does great is her stuff is really sentimental.
- 48:40So great. So some of my, so some of my
- 48:42favorite gifts that I have the portrait of Phoebe, it's from
- 48:46it's from Megan. There's a there's a a blanket
- 48:51that's Barkley, Phoebe and Roxy that says my man's best friend
- 48:55that's in the man cave. So she's really great at the the
- 48:59photos that are on our wall because we have a, you know, a
- 49:02bunch of photos of our so she went out and, you know, got used
- 49:06to great camera to, you know. So she's got yeah.
- 49:09So there's a dog we have a on in our house.
- 49:12We have a dog wall. So that was one of the Christmas
- 49:15presents where there is like all of our dogs and different photos
- 49:18and different things like that. And, and, and she's and she's
- 49:21mental enough is like for my birthday there, she got me a, a
- 49:25new dog picture. But and it's so it had Bodhi, it
- 49:28has Barkley as Roxy and then she always includes Phoebe because
- 49:32you know, Phoebe's past. So it's those little things that
- 49:36she's really good at. I will tell you this year
- 49:38though, it came in the mail. Vinyl record.
- 49:42I know what a vinyl record looks like, so I did ask for I'm
- 49:46sorry. Richard Page is back in the.
- 49:48There's I was going to say, Richard Page, let me.
- 49:50Guess Richard Page. Yeah, he was in a group called
- 49:52Third Matinee and there's a, there was red vinyl and a red
- 49:55vinyl, you know, the colored vinyl.
- 49:57Yeah. Anyway, so I'd ask for that.
- 49:58And so not to say that that's what's up there, but I know what
- 50:01vinyl looks like. But you're pretty sure.
- 50:03And then, and then I was moving her presence around last night
- 50:05and there was kind of A and I'm like, OK, this is obviously the
- 50:08record player because guess what I don't have.
- 50:11You don't have a record player. Well, no, because when Megan and
- 50:13I got married, she got. That's right, she made you get
- 50:16rid of. I forgot.
- 50:17All the vinyl, I mean, I have a little bit of, I have a little
- 50:20bit of vinyl, but not not hundreds and like hundreds and
- 50:23hundreds. Notable comic book collection.
- 50:26So, yeah, so I mean that's like, I mean what we have is I'll even
- 50:29move it if I can show it is I've got.
- 50:31Like, well, I have so a couple like I I think I have two
- 50:34Carpenter records I can give you.
- 50:36Oh, there you go. So like here's like, so here's a
- 50:38Toto, which I love. This is my favorite Toto
- 50:40element. See, so so it goes on.
- 50:42It goes basically on the wall. Right.
- 50:45So I have, I have Chicago, I have Toto.
- 50:47So I have, I have limited vinyl records.
- 50:51So my gut says she went out and got a went out and got a new
- 50:54record player. Nice.
- 50:56So that, yeah, so you can't hide that.
- 50:58I'm like, OK, that's vinyl and that's going to be a record.
- 51:00Player. Well, if it was on your list,
- 51:05that's. What you got?
- 51:06Yeah, well, the vinyl record. Oh no, I did put the record
- 51:09player on there too, so. You don't even remember what's
- 51:13on your. List well it's Amazon, it's
- 51:14Amazon, so the list carries on for years.
- 51:17So it's not like it's so it's the same list for years so.
- 51:23I see. But and, and she always says
- 51:25that she's, you know, like, OK, how many, how much comic book
- 51:28stuff, how much superheroes, how much dogs, you know, right.
- 51:32Different. Things like Cowboys.
- 51:34I mean, she knows what I like, but.
- 51:36Right. She feels like she's after after
- 51:3817 years, she's kind of maxed. Right, all the Yeah.
- 51:43And you know, like I always say, it's the, you know, you're just
- 51:46getting people stuff essentially.
- 51:49It's not, you know, making memories with them or anything,
- 51:52so. Well, I just want she.
- 51:53Obviously gets sentimental stuff, so.
- 51:55She does. She's great.
- 51:56She's great at that. And she, she really thinks it
- 51:58through. But but to me, it's like, yeah,
- 52:00I, I went online, I thought, OK, maybe I'll do an Alaskan cruise.
- 52:04And then my jaw dropped when I saw how much.
- 52:07The prices. Were, well, I just, I just, it's
- 52:10just out of my range, you know, so I don't know about you guys,
- 52:13but I don't go into debt for Christmas.
- 52:16I I did for pink. I mean the big Pink trip to
- 52:19Vegas. Rain.
- 52:20But but I still had a lot of it already paid off.
- 52:23I already had half of it already in savings.
- 52:26Rain. So it was and so that I knew by
- 52:28the time we went in September or whatever that I would get the
- 52:31rest of the money because that was a $6000 trip.
- 52:33So I already had like 3 grand in savings.
- 52:35And so I already knew that and I and I had her go out on, I had
- 52:39her go online and pick her package.
- 52:41Oh, nice, because. I didn't because I did, because
- 52:43she's picky like that. I don't want her to go.
- 52:46Well, you didn't get me a place on the strip or why?
- 52:48Why are we at the motel? Motel 6 off, you know?
- 52:52So I said so I said you go online, you find.
- 52:54Why are we in Old Vegas? Right.
- 52:56What what she enjoyed, I mean, we've been to Fremont and all
- 52:58that, same as so we stayed at the Park MGM, you know, we loved
- 53:03it. And she had A and she had a view
- 53:04from the strip. So we just did those.
- 53:07But yeah, so anyway, thank you for solving that for me.
- 53:11So. So is she happy or is she being
- 53:14like, would you be happy if you got everything on your list?
- 53:17Well, yeah, that's what I asked for.
- 53:19Everything on my list and. You get it.
- 53:22Great, and I'm trying not to be complicated.
- 53:25But do you think it's predictable?
- 53:26Like there comes a point to it like.
- 53:28Yes, but it's, but I know that it's stuff that I want and that
- 53:31I'll use. So it's it's about being
- 53:34practical, like, OK, well, I don't want you to just go and
- 53:38again, buy me stuff like you talked about, you know, filling
- 53:40the stocking because you think you have to add something extra
- 53:44or you have to buy something that's not on my list or
- 53:48whatever it is when it's like, well, but it probably isn't
- 53:52something that I will want or use.
- 53:54She doesn't want me. To go around and just buy, you
- 53:56know, if, if she got one thing that she wanted to hurt that
- 53:59she's not like that. I mean, if I got one thing, if I
- 54:01got her one present, but it was something she wanted.
- 54:04Right. Like really wanted, yeah.
- 54:06She'd be good with that, right? She'd be good with, she'd be
- 54:08good with that. So.
- 54:11You can't trade out an Alaskan cruise through the radio
- 54:14station. Trust me, if I if I could, I
- 54:17would. Oh my God, yes, absolutely.
- 54:19What happened to the days when we did beaches?
- 54:21Remember the beaches trip? Oh gosh.
- 54:22Oh yeah, we didn't. You get to go.
- 54:24On a trip we didn't. Yeah.
- 54:25You went to Jamaica. Yeah.
- 54:27Megan and I went to Jamaica because of of Town Square Media
- 54:29back in the day. Those days are done.
- 54:31Yeah, those days are long gone. Long gone.
- 54:35Well, you'll just have to start saving your money for that
- 54:38Alaska cruise and. Maybe next year.
- 54:40You know how it turns out on the the Xmas.
- 54:43Yes, yes. Which Speaking of Christmas, we
- 54:45are going to be off the next two weeks.
- 54:47I don't know if you knew this. I did not know this.
- 54:49We're off. Oh, cool.
- 54:50OK, we're off. Surprise.
- 54:53All right, well, you know, it gives us time to spend with our
- 54:56family and friends. Christmas, New Year's Plus?
- 54:59Probably no one's going to be listening.
- 55:03That's right. We've even, we even the radio
- 55:05stations all literally voice tracks.
- 55:07So it's like, yeah, I mean, well, it's funny.
- 55:09At our radio station, you know, normally we have the nationwide
- 55:12talent. They're all off, like there's
- 55:15nobody like so well. Then what are you doing?
- 55:17Did they just pre record everything?
- 55:19They, well, they don't even record ahead.
- 55:20They just, they just cut some holiday liners and you're
- 55:22supposed to throw them in between.
- 55:23And that's it. That's it.
- 55:25There's not even like we're going to cut ahead.
- 55:26It's just like you're some holiday liners.
- 55:28Good luck. See you next year.
- 55:29Oh my. Gosh, back in the day we used to
- 55:31have to voice track out. So if we were gone like that
- 55:33week, we would have to voice track that entire week.
- 55:36No. Yep.
- 55:37No. They're going to hold easy now.
- 55:39If they segue song, So what? Wow.
- 55:42Yeah, that's crazy. Well, Merry Christmas and happy
- 55:45holidays and happy birthday, Michelle.
- 55:48Thank you. Yes, Merry Christmas, Happy
- 55:50Holidays, Happy New Year. Thank you so much for listening
- 55:53to us. And hopefully, we'll still have
- 55:56as many listeners into the new year, maybe even more.
