- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, more Mark.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Mark Simone. Now, nine till noon weekdays.
- 0:04Speaker 3: On 710WOR.
- 0:04Speaker 4: Hey, we'll take some calls.
- 0:06Speaker 1: 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 0:07Speaker 3: 800-321-0710.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Look at this.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Monica Lewinsky is secretly shopping a book around. A tell-all book.
- 0:11Speaker 2: That means she's gotten herself a book agent. And they're
- 0:27Speaker 2: contacting publishers. That means she's looking for money, big money,
- 0:30Speaker 2: big advance. Well, she may have waited too long to
- 0:37Speaker 2: get a lot of money. Years ago, Bill Clinton was
- 0:41Speaker 2: still a big deal, even out of office. He was
- 0:43Speaker 2: the leader of the Democrat Party, but that's over with.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Even Democrats pay no attention to him anymore. He's really
- 0:51Speaker 2: old news. So that brings down the possible advance money
- 0:55Speaker 2: she could get for a book. Now, if you're Bill
- 0:58Speaker 2: Clinton and you're in Chappaqua and you're reading that she's
- 1:02Speaker 2: writing a tell-all book, you are saying to yourself, oh,
- 1:05Speaker 2: my God, this is not good. This is not going
- 1:07Speaker 2: to be good. This is going to be a problem.
- 1:09Speaker 2: You're on the phone with a bunch of people. What
- 1:11Speaker 2: the hell can we do about it? Can you stop her?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Is there any way to stop her? So I don't
- 1:15Speaker 2: know what they're going to do about this. But again,
- 1:18Speaker 2: for publishers, it's kind of old news. It's like writing
- 1:22Speaker 2: a tell-all book about Jimmy Carter. You're a little late
- 1:25Speaker 2: on this. But it's pretty good, juicy sex in this book,
- 1:33Speaker 2: taking place right in the Oval Office. So there'll be
- 1:37Speaker 2: publishers that'll be interested in this. Now, the thing is,
- 1:40Speaker 2: when you go to a publisher and you show them
- 1:43Speaker 2: what you're going to say, they're going to say, it's
- 1:45Speaker 2: not enough. You've got to tell more. And she's going
- 1:48Speaker 2: to do that. Well, I don't want to go into
- 1:49Speaker 2: detail about this. If you want money for an advance,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you're going to have to go into excruciating detail. So
- 1:56Speaker 2: we'll see what happens with the book. Let's take some calls.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Let's go to Mike in Florida. Mike, how you doing? Hey,
- 2:04Speaker 2: what's going on? I can't. The button doesn't work. Mike,
- 2:08Speaker 2: you there?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yes, Mike.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yes, good morning, Mark. Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Go ahead, Mike.
- 2:13Speaker 3: How are you now? Completely unrelated to the news of
- 2:18Speaker 3: the day.
- 2:19Speaker 2: We like that.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I was watching an old movie with Sandy Dennis and
- 2:23Speaker 3: Anthony Newley. I was wondering if you knew Newley and
- 2:28Speaker 3: if you were a fan. I mean, he wrote some
- 2:30Speaker 3: pretty great songs in his.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Well, Anthony Newley was a great singer. He was a
- 2:34Speaker 2: superstar singer, nightclub singer in Las Vegas, all that. And
- 2:38Speaker 2: he was a great songwriter. He wrote What Kind of
- 2:41Speaker 2: Fool Am I? Once in a Lifetime. He wrote Million
- 2:45Speaker 2: Broadway Shows. Who Can I Turn To? Who Can I
- 2:47Speaker 2: Turn To? He wrote... Candyman. The Candyman, Willy Wonka and
- 2:51Speaker 2: the Chocolate. But he was also... One of the funniest
- 2:55Speaker 2: guys in the world. Could have made a living as
- 2:56Speaker 2: a comedian. And he was always a guest on my show.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And if you remember, Steve Allen and I did a
- 3:01Speaker 2: radio show for a few years. Anthony Newley was a
- 3:05Speaker 2: regular with all the big comedians on the show and
- 3:07Speaker 2: was as funny as anybody. And a great guy.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you can tell. There's a couple of video clips
- 3:13Speaker 3: on YouTube with he and Sammy talking. And you could
- 3:16Speaker 3: tell they just were killing each other. They just loved
- 3:20Speaker 3: being in each other's company. I mean, whether it was
- 3:22Speaker 3: singing or just goofing around, they both seemed to be genuinely,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you know, enamored of the other.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a very handsome guy. And when he sang,
- 3:30Speaker 2: it was a little, you know, schmaltzy kind of.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But in the 60s.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I loved it.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that was big in the 60s. Steve Lawrence,
- 3:39Speaker 2: Edie Gourmet was very schmaltzy kind of singing. But that's
- 3:42Speaker 2: what people loved in the 60s. But he was a
- 3:44Speaker 2: wonderful guy, Anthony Newley.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Hey, Richard Harris had that, you know, MacArthur Park, for
- 3:50Speaker 3: heaven's sake. Couldn't be any more schmaltzy than that.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But that wasn't schmaltzy. That was dramatic. That's what Jimmy
- 3:55Speaker 2: Webb wanted, like a dramatic actor to do it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yes. Very true.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 3: All right.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Great question, Mike. Thanks for calling. Let's go to Sal
- 4:04Speaker 2: in Westchester. Sal, how you doing?
- 4:07Speaker 3: Hey, Mark.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Those recent allegations against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that she married
- 4:13Speaker 4: her gay brother.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 4: That they cover up their women so that their femininity
- 4:21Speaker 4: can't be exposed.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think she has to worry about that,
- 4:25Speaker 2: but go ahead.
- 4:27Speaker 4: But it kind of tells you something. It might be
- 4:29Speaker 4: being gay and Islam is kind of one and the same.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 2: All right. Well, thanks for calling. Let's go to Harrison
- 4:39Speaker 2: in Hewlett. Harrison, how are you doing?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Hey, good, Mark.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I just wanted to comment on that pizza list and
- 4:47Speaker 4: say that besides Connecticut being that low, how could Michigan
- 4:52Speaker 4: and Illinois be below Connecticut when they have amazing pizza too?
- 4:56Speaker 2: No, they don't have amazing pizza. Chicago's got that deep
- 4:59Speaker 2: dish pizza.
- 4:59Speaker 4: It's interesting.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It's not amazing. I'm from Michigan. They don't have any
- 5:05Speaker 2: great pizza there.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Detroit has some good spots, though.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That's good.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It's not amazing.
- 5:10Speaker 2: It's not great. Your problem is Long Island. Long Island,
- 5:13Speaker 2: you've got all kinds of the greatest food in the world,
- 5:15Speaker 2: but you are way behind in pizza. Why don't they
- 5:17Speaker 2: have great pizza in Long Island?
- 5:19Speaker 3: I don't get it. I still find the best pizza
- 5:22Speaker 3: is in Queens, Danny's.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 3: New Park. Yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 2: No, you're right. And, you know, even Dave Portnoy, who's
- 5:30Speaker 2: the best pizza reviewer in the world, has talked about
- 5:32Speaker 2: this at great length. why doesn't Long Island have decent pizza?
- 5:36Speaker 2: I mean, they got decent pizza. They got good pizza.
- 5:38Speaker 2: They don't have any great pizza. And as he points out,
- 5:40Speaker 2: the problem is for some reason in Long Island, they
- 5:43Speaker 2: never knew how to get the undercarriage right. Nice and
- 5:46Speaker 2: crispy and, uh, pizza in Long Island is too doughy
- 5:50Speaker 2: and too soft. And there's a restaurant in Huntington, Posto Pozzo.
- 5:54Speaker 2: They make the best pizza you'll ever have, but it's
- 5:57Speaker 2: a restaurant. They're not there to sell pizza. You can't
- 5:59Speaker 2: go in and get a slice, but I'm talking about, uh,
- 6:02Speaker 2: Just getting a slice. For some reason, Long Island is
- 6:05Speaker 2: way behind where they should be. Let's go to Eddie
- 6:09Speaker 2: in Nassau County. Eddie, how you doing?
- 6:12Speaker 1: All right. Good morning. I'd just like to know, when
- 6:14Speaker 1: are they going to write a book about Joe Biden
- 6:16Speaker 1: and his sellout racketeers, who probably did better than Benedict
- 6:20Speaker 1: Donald or Robert?
- 6:21Speaker 2: There's already a number of books about it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Really? How come the guy isn't in jail since nobody's
- 6:27Speaker 1: above the law?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Well, he probably should be. But no, there's many great
- 6:31Speaker 2: books have been written about it. Check Miranda Devine's book,
- 6:34Speaker 2: The Big Guy. That's what that's about. It's a big bestseller.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I bet he's not busting rocks in Leavenworth.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think he could bust rocks. I don't know.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You want to send him to prison? Just destroy his reputation.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That's the best thing. I mean, a guy like that,
- 6:53Speaker 2: first of all, you put him in prison, he wouldn't
- 6:54Speaker 2: know he's in prison. He doesn't know where he is.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So what's the difference? Let's go to Joel in Florida. Joel,
- 6:59Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Hope you're having a good day. For many years, they've
- 7:04Speaker 5: been trying to close the stables down, and no mayor
- 7:07Speaker 5: has been willing to do that. What I'm curious about,
- 7:10Speaker 5: do you see any chance that there will be an
- 7:12Speaker 5: investigation against the actual real estate owners of the properties
- 7:17Speaker 5: where the stables are? Because once the stables close, they're
- 7:20Speaker 5: the ones that come out making the big bucks.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Well, we don't know that they're making big bucks. No
- 7:25Speaker 2: one knows that, and they all say they're not going
- 7:27Speaker 2: to do anything and make any bucks? We don't know.
- 7:29Speaker 2: But did they influence this decision? There are people looking
- 7:35Speaker 2: into it as we speak. It began last night. There
- 7:38Speaker 2: are people looking into, did any of the real estate
- 7:41Speaker 2: developers make big donations to the city council to sway
- 7:45Speaker 2: their votes? Nobody can figure out why Julie Menon, who
- 7:48Speaker 2: was for the horses, now is against them.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:51Speaker 2: She looks pretty honest to me, but who knows? They'll
- 7:53Speaker 2: check into the real estate interests, and were they making donations?
- 7:58Speaker 2: Did they do anything to change the vote? We'll see.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We'll find out. One more real fast. Joe in Hoboken,
- 8:04Speaker 2: what do you want to say, Joe?
- 8:07Speaker 3: Hi, Mark. Real quick on the pizza debate. Yes.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Porto and Jersey City makes their own mozzarella and ricotta,
- 8:14Speaker 4: so I recommend Porto.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no. New York, obviously the best pizza state.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Jersey could be second. It's either Connecticut or New Jersey.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You'd have to give it to Jersey. They have more
- 8:26Speaker 2: great pizza. Connecticut's got three or four world-class places. Frank Pepe, Sally's.
- 8:32Speaker 2: But New Jersey has six or seven of the finest
- 8:36Speaker 2: pizzas in the world. Just check Dave Portnoy's reviews. You
- 8:39Speaker 2: can find out where they are. We've got a lot
- 8:42Speaker 2: to get to. Another two hours to go. And then
- 8:44Speaker 2: at noon, it's Buck and Clay with an excellent show
- 8:47Speaker 2: every day. The most listened to radio show in America.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Sean Hannity at three. Jesse Kelly at six. Every night
- 8:54Speaker 2: at 9, we've got Jimmy Fallon. It's a very smart show.
- 8:57Speaker 2: He makes really great points, but it's also the funniest
- 8:59Speaker 2: show on radio. 9 to midnight here on 710WOR.
