- 0:00Speaker 1: At home.
- 0:01Speaker 2: All right, We're going to welcome in Jake Thompson Ole
- 0:04Speaker 2: Miss in the soider. He joins us on the Farm
- 0:07Speaker 2: Bureau Insurance guest line. We have a lot to get
- 0:09Speaker 2: to as far as Old Miss football recruiting and ole
- 0:12Speaker 2: Miss baseball. With Dom Decker and Hunter Elliott, they gott
- 0:15Speaker 2: to start with football. Golding and the group.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Have been on a role.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Jake, who do you think is the best recruiter on
- 0:22Speaker 2: the Old Miss football staff presently? Is it Frank Wilson,
- 0:26Speaker 2: Is it Golding? Is it someone else?
- 0:29Speaker 3: I think it's I think you can say, for the
- 0:32Speaker 3: first time in about six seven years, however long, you
- 0:35Speaker 3: want to say that the head coach might be the
- 0:37Speaker 3: best recruiter at least when it comes to high school now.
- 0:40Speaker 3: But he's got a slew of lieutenants, if you will,
- 0:43Speaker 3: including Frank Wilson, who you mentioned, but also the addition
- 0:48Speaker 3: of Terrence Metcalf to the staff and the connections he's
- 0:50Speaker 3: obviously had in the state, with you know, DK playing
- 0:53Speaker 3: at Oxford, knowing a high school kids, a coaching at
- 0:56Speaker 3: the junior college level, Terrence, that has been a well
- 1:00Speaker 3: of an asset and I think that's helped I think
- 1:02Speaker 3: that's helped them get.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Some of these offensive line guys. You know.
- 1:05Speaker 3: That's the biggest thing to me is that Ole Miss
- 1:08Speaker 3: has had success not just at the high school level
- 1:11Speaker 3: of for the first time, you know, a long time,
- 1:14Speaker 3: but it's a lot of guys in the trenches, which
- 1:16Speaker 3: has kind of been their knock of well, they try
- 1:18Speaker 3: to get guys in the portal and they either don't
- 1:20Speaker 3: work out or they get you know, you're risking them
- 1:22Speaker 3: getting banged up and you don't have depth. But that
- 1:25Speaker 3: you know, they went in and pulled some top guys
- 1:27Speaker 3: both on offense and defense at the line of scrimmage,
- 1:29Speaker 3: and I think that's the a the biggest takeaway in
- 1:32Speaker 3: the biggest positive I think people can get in terms
- 1:35Speaker 3: of them maybe trying to finally build depth while also
- 1:37Speaker 3: maybe getting some veteran guys throughout the portal, because you
- 1:40Speaker 3: still have to do both. But I think the.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Line is where you need to rely on, yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You know, grassroots high school recruiting and keep them here
- 1:47Speaker 3: for a few years.
- 1:48Speaker 1: That's a great point.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Jake, Yeah, Okay, Jake Thompson, All Miss inside or All
- 1:52Speaker 2: Miss football recruiting is on a heater, and he mentioned
- 1:56Speaker 2: Terrence Metcalf. Of course, Frank Wilson has been at Ole
- 1:59Speaker 2: miss but been at LSU many times, and he was whip.
- 2:05Speaker 1: He was with bron Kelly, but then.
- 2:07Speaker 2: When the whole flip flop switch happened, Lane going to
- 2:10Speaker 2: bat Rouge, Frank was not retained, I guess because of
- 2:13Speaker 2: Kevin Smith blah blah blah. And now Frank Wilson is
- 2:17Speaker 2: with Pete Golding. You mentioned Terrence Metcalf. Also, Dante Moncrief
- 2:24Speaker 2: was added to the staff in the last six months.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Is that right, Jake, Yeah, I don't know what his
- 2:29Speaker 3: official title is, but he's been with them kind of
- 2:31Speaker 3: he was kind of with them in some capacity, but
- 2:33Speaker 3: been now more I guess, more forefront, more vocal and
- 2:36Speaker 3: like you said, the last half year, maybe a year.
- 2:38Speaker 3: But he is also a guy that's played a huge role,
- 2:41Speaker 3: you know, as you would expect, kind of on the
- 2:43Speaker 3: offensive side or you know, in the receiving room. But
- 2:46Speaker 3: he's also another guy that just knows Mississippi talent. And
- 2:48Speaker 3: as you know, I think Pete has said, I think
- 2:51Speaker 3: he said at the Coach's client when he was down
- 2:53Speaker 3: there last week that you know, they they've kind of
- 2:55Speaker 3: cast a five hour net or radius of what they
- 2:58Speaker 3: like to try to be most successful at recruiting and
- 3:02Speaker 3: in other words, trying to keep kids close to home
- 3:04Speaker 3: and keep them in state or those just outside the
- 3:06Speaker 3: state line get them to North Mississippi. And as we've
- 3:09Speaker 3: seen so far with this twenty twenty seven class, I
- 3:12Speaker 3: mean they've currently got the two three and four guys
- 3:15Speaker 3: in the state you know, in Mississippi, and a couple
- 3:19Speaker 3: others in the state further down, and so that that's
- 3:22Speaker 3: the biggest takeaway. And you've got key Can Croucher, the
- 3:24Speaker 3: quarterback out of Tennessee, who is I think sixth in
- 3:27Speaker 3: the state. So I mean that they're they're having that
- 3:30Speaker 3: success that I think people wondered if they could keep
- 3:32Speaker 3: in terms of just being in the fight for top
- 3:36Speaker 3: players against top you know, blue blood if you will, competition,
- 3:39Speaker 3: and some of the guys that they've kept, they have
- 3:42Speaker 3: won battles over at l issues, over Ohio States and
- 3:45Speaker 3: Alabamas and other schools like that. So I think that
- 3:47Speaker 3: speaks to I think you've got a head coach is
- 3:50Speaker 3: probably more involved than the previous head coach was in
- 3:54Speaker 3: terms of, you know, day to day recruiting and the
- 3:56Speaker 3: full official visit and being in there and talking and
- 3:59Speaker 3: obviously you let your your your appointment that you have
- 4:02Speaker 3: and in kind of recruiting that specific player, do a
- 4:04Speaker 3: lot of it. But I think Pete's been in there
- 4:06Speaker 3: and more involved sure in previous times.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I knew that going in. I knew it
- 4:11Speaker 1: at Bama. I knew it when he was your DC,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and now you're head coach.
- 4:15Speaker 2: That Pete is uh lives, sleeps, breathes recruiting, which is
- 4:20Speaker 2: which is a big piece of the puzzle.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So let's go through this for our listeners.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Jake is referencing Mitchell Turner, Benjarvis Shoemaker, and Antonio Berry,
- 4:31Speaker 2: among others, as big time gets for Golding and metcath
- 4:37Speaker 2: and Frank Wilson.
- 4:38Speaker 1: All these guys. Now, this lineup is pretty strong.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Think about this, Terrence Metcalf, Dante Moncrief, Kelvin Bolden, Frank Wilson,
- 4:46Speaker 2: and there's more. That's a star studded group of guys
- 4:51Speaker 2: who are committed to recruiting twelve months out of the year.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I think Kelvin Bolden is also a tremendous asset for
- 5:00Speaker 2: the ole Miss football program now that he's back in
- 5:03Speaker 2: Oxford after going to LSU.
- 5:04Speaker 3: How do you see it, Jay, Yeah, I know he
- 5:06Speaker 3: was instrumental when he was here first, and he was
- 5:09Speaker 3: kind of as a spearman, especially when he'd had like
- 5:12Speaker 3: those teamed weekends, Like all these schools have those junior days,
- 5:15Speaker 3: but they'd put a name to them and a theme
- 5:17Speaker 3: and and this and that. But Kelvin was really the
- 5:19Speaker 3: spear ahead of all that. And it was a tough
- 5:22Speaker 3: you know, kind of hurt a bit when he went
- 5:23Speaker 3: down to LSU to Baton Rouge, kind of like when
- 5:25Speaker 3: Alson Thomas did as well. But then they'll miss got
- 5:28Speaker 3: them both back. You can let Domino's fall and the
- 5:31Speaker 3: TVs fall in terms of how they came back. When
- 5:34Speaker 3: they came back, I think a lot of people can
- 5:36Speaker 3: connect those dots, but getting him back in the fold
- 5:38Speaker 3: is huge. And then you know, Austin Thomas is just
- 5:41Speaker 3: as big, kind of on the business side of things.
- 5:43Speaker 3: He's the GM and kind of the one who's going
- 5:45Speaker 3: to help navigate you know, the NIL I'm sure roster
- 5:48Speaker 3: management and deals more with Walker Joneses of the world
- 5:52Speaker 3: in that regard, But Kelvin is the guy that gets
- 5:53Speaker 3: the kids here, gets them on campus and then obviously
- 5:56Speaker 3: it helps, but let's the guys who just read it
- 5:58Speaker 3: off on staff and Pete kind of sealed the deal
- 6:00Speaker 3: that they're able to.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So, according to Jake Thompson, All Miss Insider, Pete Golding
- 6:06Speaker 2: is the lead dog. Well that's always good, you know,
- 6:09Speaker 2: I mean, saving was I mean, when your head coach
- 6:11Speaker 2: is your most gung ho recruiter, that's a good thing.
- 6:15Speaker 2: They believe in it, they're committed to it. You know,
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's an eighteen hour day deal. That's the like bloody
- 6:21Speaker 2: of your program.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So Metcalf Man, that's cool. Have you all been able
- 6:26Speaker 1: to Have you been able to interview metcalf yet?
- 6:29Speaker 3: We haven't talked to him. We got to see him,
- 6:31Speaker 3: you know, glimpses of him in the spring and in
- 6:34Speaker 3: the few practice windows we got, but he's out there.
- 6:36Speaker 3: He's Garris, John Garrison's kind of secondhand man. He's an
- 6:40Speaker 3: assistant coach with the old line, and I think every
- 6:43Speaker 3: O Line we've talked to has said that's just been
- 6:45Speaker 3: another breath of fresh air. A guy that's had that
- 6:48Speaker 3: NFL experience. Now, you know, NFL changers and evolves, but
- 6:51Speaker 3: he still knows what there is to succeed for these
- 6:54Speaker 3: guys that want to try to take that step. And
- 6:56Speaker 3: I think it's also just helped in just developing this
- 6:59Speaker 3: old line in for now at the college level, because
- 7:02Speaker 3: you know, it's always been the question mark and the
- 7:04Speaker 3: cloud over the ole Miss offense as he goes as
- 7:06Speaker 3: far as this offensive line can hold up and protect
- 7:09Speaker 3: quarterback and everything else. And I feel like, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 3: there's there's some question marks with this one right now,
- 7:13Speaker 3: especially a tackle. But you know what Terrence Metcalf's been
- 7:17Speaker 3: able to do is just provide another aspect of teaching
- 7:20Speaker 3: and coaching that you know, maybe Garrison didn't have just
- 7:23Speaker 3: because he didn't have the experiences that Metcalf had. And
- 7:25Speaker 3: it's been a good marriage so far.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Jake Thompson ole Miss Spirit on three. He joins us
- 7:32Speaker 2: on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line. We're talking ole
- 7:34Speaker 2: Miss football and they have had a hell of a
- 7:37Speaker 2: recruit the last six months. They've been on a roll
- 7:40Speaker 2: and really beefed up the high school recruiting too. Did
- 7:45Speaker 2: you go to any of the summer parties, Jake, I
- 7:49Speaker 2: went to last Thursday.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I went to the Cleveland stop on the railroad trip
- 7:55Speaker 3: just because it was the first or the only Mississippi
- 7:57Speaker 3: one before we all head to Tampa next week. So
- 8:00Speaker 3: I figured i'd go over and it was a big deal.
- 8:03Speaker 3: There was big as I thought it'd because it's Pete
- 8:04Speaker 3: coming back to Cleveland, played at Delta State, coach Delta State,
- 8:08Speaker 3: met his wife there. You know, that's you know, he's
- 8:09Speaker 3: the Louisiana guy. But I think he'd called Cleveland quote
- 8:12Speaker 3: unquote his second home if you were, just for everything
- 8:14Speaker 3: that's that he went through and the opportunities he's been
- 8:17Speaker 3: given because of it. Big turnout, big crowd, and like
- 8:21Speaker 3: you said, he was just a salesman up there on
- 8:22Speaker 3: the stage, and you know inside the Grammy Museum, which
- 8:26Speaker 3: is you know, nobody's asking me to plug it. But
- 8:28Speaker 3: that's a tremendous place. I had not been since they
- 8:30Speaker 3: opened it, so that's a tremendous building just in its
- 8:33Speaker 3: own right. But Pete, you know, like you said, just tall,
- 8:38Speaker 3: tall ball. I mean, one guy at the very end,
- 8:40Speaker 3: there weren't a lot of questions. I think I think
- 8:42Speaker 3: they got more questions at Dallas last night. But the
- 8:44Speaker 3: one question that Pete was asked was a guy that
- 8:47Speaker 3: just said, hey, can you tell us about defense, and
- 8:49Speaker 3: you're asking Pete Goldening the tap ball. You better sit
- 8:52Speaker 3: down there for a while because we've all experienced it ourselves.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And he gave a dissertation you know that I can't
- 8:58Speaker 3: remember all of but he almost went player about player
- 9:00Speaker 3: or position by a position and gave about a ten
- 9:02Speaker 3: minute answer about what he likes in which player he
- 9:05Speaker 3: likes on the only miss defense. And I think that's
- 9:07Speaker 3: what blew everybody away. It's a guy that's a involved
- 9:10Speaker 3: in every aspect, but it's also a guy that can
- 9:12Speaker 3: just recall specific stuff, no matter what time of.
- 9:15Speaker 4: The day or what time of the year, about his current.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Roster, and I think that was something that was lacking previously.
- 9:21Speaker 2: If you will, all right, so I'll be interested to
- 9:23Speaker 2: see what you say here on whether it's Perkins or
- 9:26Speaker 2: someone else, because you got several to pick from, especially
- 9:28Speaker 2: with that defensive line, and of course you can move
- 9:31Speaker 2: Perkins around in like five different positions. Who's the most
- 9:35Speaker 2: dominant defensive player going into twenty twenty six or pe
- 9:39Speaker 2: Golding in the ole miss rebels, Yeah, I.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Think you can.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You know, the easy answer is, like you said, either
- 9:45Speaker 3: Perkins or Will Eckles, just because they've been in the
- 9:48Speaker 3: offense or the defense, and they've been dominant in this system.
- 9:51Speaker 3: But I you know, you know, once games get played,
- 9:54Speaker 3: don't be surprised if one of these transfers is equally
- 9:57Speaker 3: dominant or breaks out. Everybody kind of looking at, you know,
- 10:01Speaker 3: break Purchase, Jonathan Aldonado too defensive ends that are there
- 10:05Speaker 3: with Cam Franklin now who also don't forget Cam Franklin.
- 10:09Speaker 3: I think he takes a big step. But then you
- 10:11Speaker 3: got the linebackers and Lou Farelli and Keaton Thomas, who
- 10:15Speaker 3: the one thing that stuck out with me. When Pete
- 10:17Speaker 3: gave it a long defensive answers, he compared Keaton Thomas
- 10:20Speaker 3: to a Pooh Paul, which I think everybody knows they
- 10:23Speaker 3: could have used last year on that defense. And how
- 10:26Speaker 3: good he was is one year in Oxford, so he's
- 10:29Speaker 3: high on a lot of these transfers. But you know,
- 10:31Speaker 3: if you made me pick right now, I'd have to
- 10:32Speaker 3: go with, you know, a Cam or a Will or Perkins,
- 10:36Speaker 3: just because I've seen what they can do in this defense.
- 10:38Speaker 3: But I won't be surprised if it is the answer
- 10:40Speaker 3: somebody else.
- 10:40Speaker 4: By December he is.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Jake Thompson all miss Insider on the Farm Bureau Insurance
- 10:46Speaker 2: guest line, the show is driven by your next GMC
- 10:49Speaker 2: Sierra truck at Fowler GMC Pearl Brandon. All Right, did
- 10:54Speaker 2: we hit enough here? I got one more question on
- 10:57Speaker 2: the backup quarterback? Are you still so? You brought back
- 11:01Speaker 2: a player who had been there for a while and
- 11:04Speaker 2: his dad played at LSU, and then you brought Induce
- 11:08Speaker 2: Night who is from Mississippi and signed with with Derek
- 11:11Speaker 2: Nixon Hugh Freeze, and we know what happened there. So
- 11:15Speaker 2: who's the backup? If God forbids something happens to Trinidad,
- 11:20Speaker 2: who's the number one dude?
- 11:22Speaker 3: I think it's Deuce, but I think it eventually will
- 11:27Speaker 3: be Deuce once he just gets more, you know, it gets.
- 11:29Speaker 4: The sea legs under him.
- 11:30Speaker 3: And I don't know how well the spring went. We
- 11:32Speaker 3: just didn't I get to see a lot.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Of actual one on one or if it were with
- 11:37Speaker 4: the way Pete.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Let us out there, which hey, you know it's his prerogative,
- 11:41Speaker 3: but cause I think Walker was brought in for different reasons,
- 11:44Speaker 3: you know, good reasons, but not specifically to be QB
- 11:47Speaker 3: two because you're also you had brought Induce Night. You
- 11:50Speaker 3: don't go move heaven and Earth to get Duce Night
- 11:52Speaker 3: in here when you still know Trinidad is the guy
- 11:55Speaker 3: if you don't think he's going to be your backup,
- 11:57Speaker 3: you know, I just don't see Deuce making that move
- 11:59Speaker 3: to be Q three and once again sitting there waiting
- 12:01Speaker 3: until next year to fight for that spot. So I
- 12:05Speaker 3: think it's Deuce, and I think he brought Walker in
- 12:08Speaker 3: as just kind of another veteran. You know, he knows
- 12:10Speaker 3: this offense, he knows Sean David Baker, he knows the
- 12:12Speaker 3: system and you can get in there, and he can
- 12:14Speaker 3: also help Trinidad catch up, you know. And that's the
- 12:16Speaker 3: one thing Trinidad said is you know, different terminology, same stuff,
- 12:20Speaker 3: but the words are different. It might need a little
- 12:22Speaker 3: a little bit different than what.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Charlie Weiss did.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But so it helps to just have another guy in
- 12:27Speaker 3: the room because that room was very sparse after Austin
- 12:30Speaker 3: transferred him, and he just didn't have a lot of experience,
- 12:34Speaker 3: even with Trinidad coming back. So it didn't hurt to
- 12:36Speaker 3: bring Walker back because I think he's got other items
- 12:40Speaker 3: on his list for.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Why he came.
- 12:41Speaker 3: But yeah, I think Deuce Night is your QB too,
- 12:44Speaker 3: unless he just totally has a very bad fall camp,
- 12:47Speaker 3: which you know, anything's possible.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Sure, all right, at a bounds one oh five nine
- 12:52Speaker 2: to the Zone, ESPN. He is Jake Thompson talking Ole
- 12:54Speaker 2: Miss football. So they brought back Terrence Metcalf, that's been
- 12:57Speaker 2: an asset. They hired Dante Moncre fantastic wide receiver, played
- 13:03Speaker 2: a long time decade or.
- 13:04Speaker 1: So in the NFL.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Kelvin Bolden, you talking about a dude. He was there,
- 13:09Speaker 2: then went to LSU. Lane didn't like that, so when
- 13:12Speaker 2: Lane got the LSU job, there wasn't a spot. He
- 13:14Speaker 2: goes back joins Pete Golding. They got Frank Wilson. You
- 13:17Speaker 2: all know about Frank. We've been talking about him for
- 13:18Speaker 2: twenty years. And then Austin Thomas was Lane's GM, and
- 13:22Speaker 2: old Miss left to go to LSU. Actually he'd been
- 13:25Speaker 2: at LSUN prior to that, and now he's back as
- 13:28Speaker 2: Pete Golding's GM.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Did y'all follow that? That was kind of like a
- 13:30Speaker 1: Rubik's Cube.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Jake Thompson on one oh five nine the Zone, ESPN.
- 13:36Speaker 2: So the Rebel Road Tour was in Dallas, Texas last night, Jake.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, they do.
- 13:42Speaker 3: They Dallas tonight and I think or last night, sorry,
- 13:45Speaker 3: and then Pascagoula tomorrow night. Okay, So they're doing like
- 13:49Speaker 3: six and like two a week, and next week Pete's
- 13:52Speaker 3: going to be, you know, living off whatever energy drink
- 13:55Speaker 3: he has, because I think it's Jackson next Wednesday or Tuesday.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Then the next day, next morning he's flying to Tampa
- 14:02Speaker 3: to see US and media days, and if I'm sure
- 14:05Speaker 3: heading back to afning like you always do. I think
- 14:07Speaker 3: that next night he's in Memphis for the final stop.
- 14:10Speaker 3: So so next week it's going to be a lot
- 14:12Speaker 3: of questions, handshaking, and probably sleepless nights for him.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Okay, So Rebel Road Tour goes to Jackson and Memphis
- 14:20Speaker 2: next week, and of course Pete will have his day
- 14:22Speaker 2: like all the coaches next week in Tampa for SEC
- 14:26Speaker 2: media days.
- 14:27Speaker 1: All right, let's go to Ole Miss baseball.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I guess you you weren't surprised that Townsend and Ray
- 14:36Speaker 2: went first round.
- 14:38Speaker 3: No, I'm not, you know, I think everybody was, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 3: maybe foolishly, and you know, for if you're for good reason,
- 14:44Speaker 3: if you're almost fan, you'd love for them somehow not
- 14:46Speaker 3: have been taken, you know, but that was never gonna happen. Uh.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I'm surprised in a good way, you know, for Taylor
- 14:53Speaker 3: with how well he played to shoot himself up and
- 14:56Speaker 3: to become a you know, a first round pick up
- 14:59Speaker 3: there with with Kate.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Uh.
- 15:00Speaker 3: You know a lot of people had Taylor suddenly going
- 15:02Speaker 3: before Cade, but some didn't. And then you know what
- 15:05Speaker 3: happened was Kate went first and Taylor three spots later,
- 15:08Speaker 3: something like that. But no, I mean, I think it's
- 15:11Speaker 3: just a testament as you look at the whole smooth
- 15:13Speaker 3: guys drafted.
- 15:14Speaker 4: It was one position.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Player and seven pitchers of current players that were taken.
- 15:19Speaker 3: And I think everybody knows what Joel Ingram's done, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 3: coming to Ole Miss and turning that pitching staff around
- 15:26Speaker 3: and coverage spare. But that's why they were so heavy
- 15:30Speaker 3: pitching wise in the portal, because they knew the Caves,
- 15:32Speaker 3: the Taylor's, the Hudson's were all gonna end up getting taken.
- 15:35Speaker 3: And Will Libert as well, who I believe signed with
- 15:38Speaker 3: the Braves, so he's gone. I think everybody drafted is
- 15:40Speaker 3: going to be signed and gone, So it's a it's
- 15:43Speaker 3: an empty one. But you know that our Saturday guy
- 15:45Speaker 3: started with good news, probably not totally surprising news, but
- 15:50Speaker 3: getting Hunter Elliott back because he was granted another year,
- 15:53Speaker 3: you know, the start of this past he's basically getting
- 15:55Speaker 3: his twenty twenty three back when he got hurt that
- 15:58Speaker 3: year right after the World Series wins. So you do
- 16:00Speaker 3: have one veteran guy on the weekend. But now it's
- 16:04Speaker 3: who's going to be that starter or those other two
- 16:06Speaker 3: starters with him, which I think the fall this might
- 16:08Speaker 3: be the more interesting fall practice for baseball in terms
- 16:11Speaker 3: of the pitching, UH, in terms of you know, just
- 16:13Speaker 3: to see who they're using and who's going where.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so what Hunter is a phenomenal college players, It
- 16:21Speaker 2: just there's not a path for MLB, and so it
- 16:24Speaker 2: just made sense, I guess to take a six figure
- 16:26Speaker 2: deal and come back and know that you'll be a
- 16:28Speaker 2: weekend starter. Is that was that the deal Jake?
- 16:31Speaker 3: I guess because the year after or the first time
- 16:34Speaker 3: he was elg for the draft, he got drafted I
- 16:36Speaker 3: think by the Dodgers in that last round UH and
- 16:39Speaker 3: opted to come back. I think that was more of
- 16:41Speaker 3: a hey, what's my where, what's my rate right now?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Or what's my value? And then kind of use that
- 16:46Speaker 3: if you've got extra years your you know, players got
- 16:48Speaker 3: the leverage, if you're able to say, hey, I can
- 16:50Speaker 3: come back, especially like you said Andy and Io or
- 16:53Speaker 3: where you're going to make a decent chunk of change,
- 16:55Speaker 3: or if you're a decent, you know, top pitcher in baseball. Uh,
- 16:58Speaker 3: you know you're gonna you're gonna options. But I'm just
- 17:02Speaker 3: surprised me personally, and I spoken or talked to anybody.
- 17:05Speaker 3: This is just me rattling in my head, surprised that
- 17:08Speaker 3: he opted to withdraw his name unless he was just
- 17:12Speaker 3: getting total feedback that it was going to be a
- 17:15Speaker 3: eighteen nineteen twenty round again which had those slot values,
- 17:18Speaker 3: and what teams are able to give to those round
- 17:21Speaker 3: picks is probably at least equal to one hundred could
- 17:24Speaker 3: get if not more here. So I think that is it,
- 17:27Speaker 3: and I just you know, we'll see you. Maybe he
- 17:30Speaker 3: pitches next year, it does well, and then tries it again,
- 17:32Speaker 3: but he's going to be that It's gonna be like
- 17:34Speaker 3: Dennis Quad and a rookie at this point by the
- 17:36Speaker 3: time he gets to the pros. But you know, if
- 17:38Speaker 3: kid just loves college ball.
- 17:39Speaker 4: And I'll obviously all miss this is going to tell him.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Now, no left hander, with all those starts and the
- 17:46Speaker 2: production that he's had, how much do you think he
- 17:49Speaker 2: got paid?
- 17:50Speaker 3: You know, oh baseball, and I l as a mystery
- 17:54Speaker 3: to me.
- 17:55Speaker 4: I have not mastered that one.
- 17:56Speaker 3: It's I don't think the numbers are obviously as large
- 17:59Speaker 3: as people might but I would assume it is probably
- 18:03Speaker 3: double or more what he would have gotten if he
- 18:05Speaker 3: had stayed and been a late round pick in the pros.
- 18:08Speaker 3: So I'm sure he's making the right decision. You know,
- 18:10Speaker 3: his families just fifty minutes down the road, so he's
- 18:13Speaker 3: get to stay home.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Again and didn't give it a go.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And I know last year didn't go.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Well for him because you know the rumbling started at
- 18:19Speaker 4: the end of the year.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Should he be on Fridays? What will happen this year
- 18:22Speaker 3: if he does come back? So I think he wants
- 18:24Speaker 3: to prove it to himself and probably prove it to
- 18:26Speaker 3: those scouts that sit in Swayze and watch him next year.
- 18:30Speaker 1: All right, Dot Decker, Were you surprised he's coming back?
- 18:34Speaker 3: No, I wasn't. I was surprised he didn't get picked.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I was surprised more to position players didn't get picked
- 18:39Speaker 3: for ale Miss. Now I know everybody's like, well that
- 18:41Speaker 3: the offense was bad, but there is another part of
- 18:44Speaker 3: your game, and that is the field.
- 18:46Speaker 4: And I know all Miss was.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Kind of error prone, but there were guys that you mean,
- 18:50Speaker 3: you look at the five hundred and six hundred, how
- 18:52Speaker 3: many picks it is, and these teams take flyers on any.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Kind of player.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I was just surprised at the uda marks, the Furnaces,
- 18:59Speaker 3: the Besettas, and even a Decker just never got their
- 19:02Speaker 3: name called at all.
- 19:03Speaker 4: But for Decker.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Obviously made his decision much easier. And he's back, which
- 19:08Speaker 3: I thought that would be the option for him to
- 19:10Speaker 3: come back, even if he got pick Lady Pisto Lean
- 19:13Speaker 3: kind of for the same reasons as Hunter, But you
- 19:16Speaker 3: got him, you got Hayden Federico, you got Owen Paino.
- 19:21Speaker 4: You don't have a lot of guys.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Returning, but you got a core of guys that are
- 19:24Speaker 3: all older, veteran guys, and you've got to kind of
- 19:26Speaker 3: build around it, either out of whatever your high school
- 19:28Speaker 3: class looks like, how they perform, or what they still
- 19:32Speaker 3: might find in the portal, because I think they still
- 19:34Speaker 3: need another bat or.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Two in the portal. With whatever's left.
- 19:37Speaker 3: You know, obviously all these kids that got drafted got decisions.
- 19:40Speaker 2: To make right. I think we hit most everything we
- 19:46Speaker 2: needed for today. When are you going to Tampa?
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'm heading down Saturday, cutting a driving half and the
- 19:53Speaker 3: getting there Sunday night and then I'm there for the week.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Oh wow, you're going to do the whole. There was
- 19:57Speaker 2: a steakhouse I went to couple of years. It's like
- 20:02Speaker 2: known as their best steakhouse. It's been there forever. I
- 20:06Speaker 2: gotta text one of my buddies figure out what else
- 20:10Speaker 2: where I went, and then I'll text you have a
- 20:12Speaker 2: good trip, my man. We'll talk when you get back.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Okay, awesome, I appreciate you.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I'll have a good one, Hi, Bud.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Jake Thompson Ole Miss spirit uh Ole, Miss Insider on

- 20:48Speaker 2: I can't remember where Kelvin Bolden's from, but he played
- 20:50Speaker 2: Southern Miss. But Ole Miss once again goes and gets
- 20:53Speaker 2: a dude recruiter and gets him in their system. They
- 20:56Speaker 2: did it with Derek Nicks for fifteen years, who was
- 20:59Speaker 2: a startel back at Southern Miss and gave them a
- 21:02Speaker 2: lot of juice on the recruiting trail.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And now Kelvin Bolden also in that mix.
- 21:07Speaker 2: So next week Ole Miss will be in Jackson for
- 21:10Speaker 2: their Rebel road tour. They'll be in Memphis and then
