- 0:01Speaker 1: Purposely. Your life. God's purpose. Listen at Purposely.com. At the time,
- 0:15Speaker 1: it just seemed like a whole lot of random things.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Where my dad's work was, where we were living, what
- 0:21Speaker 1: school I was going to, why we had to move
- 0:24Speaker 1: again and again and then move again. None of it
- 0:28Speaker 1: seemed to be part of a plan at all. It
- 0:31Speaker 1: all seemed really random and a whole lot by accident.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm Julie Lyles-Karr, and this is God on the Go,
- 0:37Speaker 1: where we help you make the minutes matter when you're
- 0:39Speaker 1: in the car, on the way to school, going to
- 0:41Speaker 1: soccer practice, all the things. We're part of the Purposely
- 0:43Speaker 1: Podcast Network. We are in a series of episodes right
- 0:46Speaker 1: now where we're talking about you are worth it, the
- 0:50Speaker 1: value that you and I have with God. Now, all
- 0:54Speaker 1: of these events that were taking place, it wasn't always
- 0:58Speaker 1: very much fun to Have you had to make a
- 1:00Speaker 1: move with your family? Have you had to move across
- 1:02Speaker 1: the country? Then you might know that it can be
- 1:04Speaker 1: really hard. There can be great things that come out
- 1:07Speaker 1: of it, but it can also be really difficult. And
- 1:09Speaker 1: we were having to make a lot of those changes
- 1:11Speaker 1: a lot. And I would tell you that at the time,
- 1:15Speaker 1: it didn't seem like it was part of any bigger
- 1:18Speaker 1: purpose at all. As a matter of fact, I kept thinking,
- 1:21Speaker 1: why is God putting me through this? Why am I
- 1:24Speaker 1: having to change schools again? Why am I going to
- 1:27Speaker 1: have to leave these friends and try to make new
- 1:29Speaker 1: friends again? But then over time, something really interesting happened
- 1:35Speaker 1: in my own life. Through all of those things happening,
- 1:38Speaker 1: it ultimately led me to decide when it was time
- 1:40Speaker 1: for me to go to college, to go to a
- 1:42Speaker 1: college I'd never considered before. But because of some of
- 1:46Speaker 1: the moves that I had made, well, it was going
- 1:48Speaker 1: to reunite me with some people who had meant a
- 1:51Speaker 1: lot to me a couple of moves before. And so
- 1:54Speaker 1: I ended up going to that college and guess what?
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's where I met the guy that I would go
- 2:00Speaker 1: on to marry, the guy who would be the dad
- 2:02Speaker 1: of my kids, the guy that I would do life with.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And when I met him, our lives had intersected in
- 2:10Speaker 1: so many ways. And all of a sudden, all these
- 2:13Speaker 1: things that had felt like they were just on accident,
- 2:15Speaker 1: they were just random, I began to realize that God
- 2:19Speaker 1: had a purpose in all of it. Paul's writing to
- 2:24Speaker 1: the early church in Ephesus, and he writes these words
- 2:28Speaker 1: in Ephesians 2.10,' For we are God's handiwork, created in
- 2:32Speaker 1: Christ Jesus to do good works.' which God prepared in
- 2:35Speaker 1: advance for us to do. Now, we don't often use
- 2:38Speaker 1: that word, handiwork, right? You don't think about that word
- 2:41Speaker 1: very often today. But it's a really interesting word in
- 2:45Speaker 1: the original language of the Bible, and it's poema. Now,
- 2:49Speaker 1: if that sounded like a word that you think you know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you're probably right. It's where we get the word for
- 2:53Speaker 1: poem in our language today. A poem is a beautiful
- 2:58Speaker 1: kind of writing that It sometimes rhymes, but it always
- 3:02Speaker 1: seems to be able to talk about emotions and love
- 3:07Speaker 1: and all kinds of things that it's just in this
- 3:09Speaker 1: way that our hearts really recognize. You know, a lot
- 3:13Speaker 1: of your favorite songs, well, really, they're poems. They're set
- 3:16Speaker 1: to music, but they have a way in which they
- 3:18Speaker 1: can talk about experiences that we have as human beings
- 3:22Speaker 1: in a way that really connects with our hearts. Well,
- 3:26Speaker 1: that word in that verse where it says we are
- 3:28Speaker 1: God's handiwork, it means we are his poem. Now, think
- 3:32Speaker 1: about it. If you took a whole bunch of words
- 3:34Speaker 1: written on little slips of paper and you jumbled them
- 3:37Speaker 1: up in a jar and you poured them out and
- 3:38Speaker 1: opened them up and just put them in whatever order
- 3:40Speaker 1: that they came out, well, that would seem kind of
- 3:43Speaker 1: by accident, right? But if all those words actually made
- 3:46Speaker 1: this beautiful poem that told this incredible story about a
- 3:51Speaker 1: human life and how a human began to realize that
- 3:55Speaker 1: they meant so much to God, that they had so
- 3:56Speaker 1: much value to God, well, you would know that wasn't
- 3:59Speaker 1: by accident. I mean, let's face it. If you take
- 4:02Speaker 1: apart a really complex piece of a machine, like let's
- 4:06Speaker 1: say that you took a look at your mom's coffee
- 4:08Speaker 1: machine and it wasn't working and she let you take
- 4:10Speaker 1: it apart and you looked at it. You would know
- 4:12Speaker 1: that all those parts and pieces, they couldn't be there
- 4:15Speaker 1: by accident. There had to be purpose behind why it
- 4:19Speaker 1: even existed. Well, that's how you are for God. There
- 4:23Speaker 1: are so many beautiful places throughout the Bible where God
- 4:25Speaker 1: talks about that He has written your life, that He
- 4:30Speaker 1: has done all these things on purpose that you would
- 4:34Speaker 1: come to know Him. and that He has a special
- 4:36Speaker 1: job for you, a special meaning for you while you
- 4:40Speaker 1: are living this life. So for whatever is going on
- 4:44Speaker 1: for you right now with your family and school, if
- 4:47Speaker 1: there are things that are, you know, maybe not feeling
- 4:49Speaker 1: so great, or maybe it's just feeling really random, or
- 4:52Speaker 1: a whole bunch of things that just don't seem fair,
- 4:55Speaker 1: like they shouldn't go together, please know this. You are
- 4:59Speaker 1: not here by accident. You are here on purpose, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: you are God's poem to the world. I want to
