- 1:24Speaker 2: adapting story of twenty twenty four, which I read at
- 1:27Speaker 2: the end of twenty twenty four by Debbie Denon in
- 1:31Speaker 2: The New York Post. Deborah Denon of the New York
- 1:34Speaker 2: Post with this amazing headline, Israel's war with Hamas has
- 1:39Speaker 2: resulted in some cutting edge, astonishing medical advancements.
- 1:44Speaker 1: What does she mean?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Well, the Israelis war in Gaza has spurred a wave
- 1:50Speaker 2: of healthcare innovations that are both reshaping mental and physical
- 1:54Speaker 2: recovery for soldiers and civilians. Denon rights from surgical robots
- 1:59Speaker 2: that remove bullets and shrapnel to three D printed prosthetics.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Three D printed prosthetics, How cool is that?
- 2:08Speaker 2: For rapid deployment to battlefield burn treatment developed my from pineapples.
- 2:14Speaker 2: These technologies are redefining modern medicine and saving lives. These
- 2:18Speaker 2: stats are incredible. Since the war began, of course, late
- 2:23Speaker 2: two thousand and three, after the Hamas attack on Israel,
- 2:26Speaker 2: twelve thousand soldiers have entered the Defense Ministry's rehab department.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Forty percent of these soldiers have sustained limb trauma and
- 2:36Speaker 2: a third facing psychological injuries such as anxiety, PTSD, depression,
- 2:41Speaker 2: and psychosis twelve thousand soldiers. Think of that stat here
- 2:47Speaker 2: on the adapting future of the Lolling Up Network, and
- 2:50Speaker 2: you know what, You might think they're not, but I
- 2:54Speaker 2: will proudly say the idea of soldiers defending Israel, defending
- 2:57Speaker 2: even civilians, is from Hamas are heroes.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Cancel me, put my ratings down to four to three. Start,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I don't care. They are heroes and.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I'm so excited to see that Israel's, much like their
- 3:12Speaker 2: military technology, have also advanced the technology in recovery efforts
- 3:19Speaker 2: an injury recovery. I want to tell you the story
- 3:22Speaker 2: of Long Island native Aaron Bores, who actually has moved
- 3:28Speaker 2: to Israel back as a teenager to join the IDF
- 3:32Speaker 2: and ended up staying in the country. He describes his
- 3:36Speaker 2: first entry into Godza, weeks after Hamas's October sevent twenty
- 3:40Speaker 2: twenty three attack on southern Israel, as stepping into a
- 3:44Speaker 2: Tolkien esque appa apocalyptic landscape. Just two weeks into his service,
- 3:50Speaker 2: Bors was shot while trying to rescue his commanding officer,
- 3:54Speaker 2: who was killed at the scene. He barely survived, crawling
- 3:58Speaker 2: to safety while dragging his smashed legs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: His smashed leg from the.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Initial fear of amputation to transitioning to a wheelchair and
- 4:06Speaker 2: then crutches and Nadawa kine Boards credits Israel's medical professionals
- 4:11Speaker 2: and technology for his recovery and saving his legs. If
- 4:15Speaker 2: this is not a great adapting story to start twenty
- 4:17Speaker 2: twenty five, show me something else. But this is really
- 4:23Speaker 2: hopeful that maybe the advance that was made by Israel
- 4:28Speaker 2: during this war could inspire United States hospitals and rehab
- 4:34Speaker 2: facilities and clinics to truly revolutionize the way.
- 4:39Speaker 1: We have our technology. Now.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I have to do my research and see if there
- 4:45Speaker 2: are any three three D printed prosthetics companies out there,
- 4:51Speaker 2: because that is such a tool and such a good
- 4:56Speaker 2: form of three day technology, better than building a house
- 4:59Speaker 2: out of three day I'm just saying that American companies
- 5:04Speaker 2: need to know about this, and I'm so happy that
- 5:08Speaker 2: Deborah Denan wrote about this because it brings awareness to
- 5:11Speaker 2: the struggles that are going on in this war in Israel,
- 5:14Speaker 2: as well as the signs of hope.
- 5:18Speaker 1: There's even more.
- 5:20Speaker 2: There's what they call a mind move system by Israeli
- 5:23Speaker 2: startup six degrees, which alleviates.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Pain by tricking the brain into believing.
- 5:28Speaker 2: The missing limb is moving.
- 5:30Speaker 1: The missing limb is moving.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Patients wear lightweight bands and a VR headset, engaging in
- 5:35Speaker 2: games where a virtual version of their limb performs actions
- 5:41Speaker 2: activating the brain's motor and century circuits to reduce pain
- 5:45Speaker 2: and reliance on medication. Eighty eight percent of users report
- 5:48Speaker 2: significant pain relief from this mind move system. Again, American facilities, hospitals, clinics,
- 5:57Speaker 2: are you listening to this?
- 6:00Speaker 1: We are an ally to Israel.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Why not our hospital systems, why not our clinics, our
- 6:04Speaker 2: facilities partner with these different companies to say, hey, how
- 6:09Speaker 2: do we bring these efforts to New York.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Or across the country.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I should say, because imagine, imagine if we can calm
- 6:22Speaker 2: down the phantom pain that amputees face, even if they're not.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Affected by the war, but especially.
- 6:30Speaker 2: For those American war veterans that are dealing with trauma
- 6:34Speaker 2: to this day from whatever they've had to go through.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And then she writes, the technology for three D printing
- 6:49Speaker 2: prosthetics has been integrated into hospitals to crease prosthetics.
- 6:53Speaker 1: In hours rather than weeks.
- 6:58Speaker 2: This is very interesting to me because for those who
- 7:00Speaker 2: may not know, I, as a young kid had a prosthetic.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I was born with one leg. I had a.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Prosthetic, but it was so old school. They had to
- 7:10Speaker 2: do the whole casting. They had to make sure my
- 7:12Speaker 2: body was fit to the bowl of the prosthetic, and
- 7:16Speaker 2: then I have to wear it, and of course it
- 7:18Speaker 2: was a heavy wear. But that took weeks and months
- 7:21Speaker 2: to actually do. And I credit my prosectis a Charlie
- 7:26Speaker 2: for those innovations back at the Viscardi school. But here
- 7:31Speaker 2: we are in twenty twenty five and I could talk
- 7:32Speaker 2: about prosthetics that are made in hours rather than weeks,
- 7:37Speaker 2: hours rather than weeks. At Chiapa Medical Universities or Medical
- 7:45Speaker 2: Center's three D Center, a precisely designed skull model was
- 7:49Speaker 2: manufactured to help surgeons re construct the facial structure of
- 7:54Speaker 2: IDF officer Omni Rosenbilt, who who severely was severely injured
- 8:03Speaker 2: in con Unis when a building collapsed on him. The
- 8:07Speaker 2: technology also helped him restore his vision. A military dog
- 8:13Speaker 2: also had a skull restructured when after they were injured
- 8:19Speaker 2: during a Gaza operation.
- 8:20Speaker 1: This is impacting military dogs as well.
- 8:27Speaker 2: She goes on to write Medtronic, an Israeli company, was
- 8:30Speaker 2: used created a robotic guidance system which was used to
- 8:35Speaker 2: remove a bullet lodginous souldiers sacrum the bone of the
- 8:39Speaker 2: base of the spine, avoiding paralysis, nerve damage, and lead poisoning.
- 8:46Speaker 2: The minimal evasive procedure took just ninety minutes.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Ninety minutes. And I'm gonna.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Link this because all the names you should look into
- 9:00Speaker 2: and tell your local hospital, tell your local rehabitabley.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Tell your local clinic.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Ay.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I read this story by Deborah.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Denon about how Israel's startups and medical companies are innovating
- 9:15Speaker 2: the way we treat injured veterans in their country, injured
- 9:20Speaker 2: soldiers in their country, and I think we should put
- 9:24Speaker 2: it and get them in our hospitals and places.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Here in America.
- 9:29Speaker 2: We are allies with Israel, and I said a moment ago,
- 9:32Speaker 2: so why not partner with them to further advance that
- 9:35Speaker 2: within our hospital system. And then finally, Israel's National Medical
- 9:50Speaker 2: Emergency Service m DA Omegan David Adam has introduced whole
- 9:56Speaker 2: blood transfusions on the battlefield, making the IDF the first
- 10:01Speaker 2: military to implement this life saving practice right on the
- 10:05Speaker 2: battlefield by delivering comprehensive blood components red white blood cells, platelets,
- 10:11Speaker 2: plasma at the point of injury.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Survival rates for soldiers suffering.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Massive bleeding and trauma have reached an unpre precedented ninety
- 10:21Speaker 2: three percent. Ninety three percent of the IDF's lives are
- 10:26Speaker 2: being saved through this transfusion process. I love that Israel
- 10:37Speaker 2: is always having one leg up in whatever they're doing,
- 10:41Speaker 2: whether it's advancing their military technology, advancing now their medical technology.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I just wish we would learn from them and not.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Criticize them, because if we just opened our eyes and
- 10:56Speaker 2: saw what Israel was doing to protected soldiers, we'd be
- 11:01Speaker 2: far better off in this country if we adapted some
- 11:04Speaker 2: of these technologies in our own backyard. And that's how
- 11:10Speaker 2: we could have one leg up for our veterans is
- 11:12Speaker 2: by partnering with all of these medical innovations in Israel
- 11:21Speaker 2: for a better twenty twenty five. And yeah, it would
- 11:26Speaker 2: just give us one leg up in medical treatment that
- 11:31Speaker 2: we should have been on the ball with years ago.
- 11:36Speaker 2: But thanks to deborahda and nom for writing this, for
- 11:38Speaker 2: bringing awareness to this because maybe if someone out there
- 11:41Speaker 2: listens to said, hey, let me know about more of
- 11:44Speaker 2: this company.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Well, their name's right in the article and it's linked here.
- 11:50Speaker 1: So thanks for doing a service.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Deborda On inspired me to do a service on this
- 11:53Speaker 2: podcast today to tell you about what she says in
- 12:02Speaker 2: her title, Israel's war with Amas has resulted in some
- 12:07Speaker 2: cutting edge, astonishing medical advances. One leg up. Indeed, I'm
- 12:14Speaker 2: Alex Garrett. Have a great rest of your day. And yes,
- 12:18Speaker 2: it is a day of morning here in America for
- 12:21Speaker 2: the late President Carter. A day before the funeral, and
- 12:27Speaker 2: I even saw downstairs Trinity Church here in Lower Manhattan
- 12:30Speaker 2: had the flags at half mast. So we all bow
- 12:34Speaker 2: our heads today in honor of Jimmy Carter on this
- 12:38Speaker 2: a day of national mourning
