- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Oh, welcome back to the Three O
- 0:16Take presented by Schnook Senior.
- 0:17This is episode 6 O 7. I'll be your host, Kyle Korne.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Knight Reyes.
- 0:26Knight. KCJB How are we drinking a
- 0:34creamsicle over there? What is it?
- 0:35A creams. What is it?
- 0:37A cream soda. Cream soda Believe.
- 0:40What? What is a cream soda?
- 0:42Just vanilla. For those that watch on YouTube.
- 0:47Looks like P. If you're lucky enough the way
- 0:50with the way that this recording works, you catch like the first
- 0:532 seconds of whatever we're talking about before the video
- 0:56starts. And so I'm sure if you, if
- 0:59you're fortunate enough this time around, you may have heard
- 1:01Nate referring to cream soda as pee.
- 1:04So apologies in advance if if well, I guess it's after the
- 1:07fact, but apologies for that experience, but.
- 1:10I'd like to apologize to absolutely no one, OK?
- 1:14On brand. What's up?
- 1:18Hey, thank you boys for holding it down on Sunday.
- 1:20Sunday clubhouse. Sorry sorry I couldn't make it
- 1:23but seems like the the prisoners had a a grand time running the.
- 1:27I think we killed it. I think we killed it.
- 1:31It's fun. Jake's camera sucked.
- 1:34What was that about? Did that ever finish uploading?
- 1:37I meant to ask him that. I don't know.
- 1:41It worked out. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:43Too late now. You all had a good, good show.
- 1:47Sorry I missed it, but you know the principal's back so.
- 1:53I mean, you didn't technically miss it.
- 1:55That's true. Weird the whole time.
- 1:56We're at a rest stop. No.
- 1:57Well, Meredith was there. I was driving.
- 1:59She was just. She was running Meredith, by the
- 2:01way. Happy birthday, Meredith.
- 2:03Yeah. Happy birthday, Meredith.
- 2:05Yeah, Happy birthday, Meredith. Shoot, just just growing up,
- 2:11man, Just growing up having kids.
- 2:13The core ones are rolling. Crazy.
- 2:20Speaking of kids, no, I got nothing.
- 2:26Let's talk. I tried, I tried.
- 2:28I tried D minus little Rusty Little rusty the.
- 2:31Only reason it's not an F is because you admitted you had
- 2:34nothing. That's fair.
- 2:39Hopefully there's not too much of defending my own honour that
- 2:42I'll have to do on this episode from Sunday 'cause apparently I
- 2:45was just getting roasted. But let's get into some some
- 2:49topics, shall we? We shall I have it in my game up
- 2:56here. Let's let's start it with Terek
- 2:58Skubal the the preseason American League Cy Young
- 3:04favorites or National League Cy Young favorite, depending upon
- 3:10where you are, where you stand with the trade rumors, where you
- 3:15stand on that that end of the. Hot.
- 3:18But Terek Skubal arthroscopic surgery for loose bodies in his
- 3:24left elbow. And this was obviously because
- 3:30of the World Baseball Classic, right?
- 3:31I mean, I'm just, I'm told that the second you sign up, the
- 3:37second you commit that it's it's all but a guarantee.
- 3:41No, it is a guarantee that you're going to miss some time.
- 3:44And so obviously, obviously coming back to pitch for Team
- 3:49USA in the championship really jammed him up.
- 3:52Oh, no, wait, no, he he didn't come back to pitch for the
- 3:57United States, did he? I guess not.
- 4:01Right, they can't blame this on the WBC now.
- 4:06I don't know, I mean. I'm coming on him being soft.
- 4:11Communist has got to do what a communist has got to do, you
- 4:13know. Why, how did we get, why did we
- 4:17get gas lit by the Tigers right after he finished that start?
- 4:25He had that start. Then he had that weird moment
- 4:29where he takes his glove off, he's wiggling his arm, rubbing
- 4:32his elbow. And then the next day, Tiger's
- 4:37like, no, it's fine, He's fine. Everything's fine.
- 4:39We're good. He'll make his next start.
- 4:41He'll be on time. It's just I I'm so sick of big
- 4:46league teams just lying all the time about injuries.
- 4:51Stop lying. Just says what are?
- 4:54What is the point of that? Same thing happened with
- 4:57crochet. He was like, I'm so I couldn't
- 5:00be more healthy and then it's it's the 15th day IL I'm like,
- 5:04oh, OK, sick, but I didn't know that's what good health looks
- 5:08like. Yeah, I don't get it man, but I,
- 5:10I what I do know is that based on something I saw earlier
- 5:15today, that and double check me if you want to Fact Check, but I
- 5:19think he has fallen off of the site young odds all together,
- 5:25which is kind of crazy, but I guess that's what happens when
- 5:27you miss well, I. He won't qualify.
- 5:30Sure. I guess they don't officially
- 5:32have a timetable, but I think what I saw was what, two to
- 5:36three months? Is that fair?
- 5:38That was the initial notification I got, but then
- 5:41then it was said to have no timetable.
- 5:46So who's next? Who's?
- 5:48Who's the Cy Young going to be this year then, if that's the
- 5:50case? Because it's certainly not going
- 5:52to be him. Probably Cam Schlieler, which
- 5:59you'd hate and I'd love. I'd eat that up.
- 6:04Don't sleep on Emerson Hancock, by the way.
- 6:07Yeah. He's pretty good, too.
- 6:09I'm dead serious. No, I'm not even.
- 6:11I'm not even. I'm not.
- 6:12It's not a bit. I'm like, look out for Emerson
- 6:15Hancock. I'm OK.
- 6:16All right. Dead.
- 6:17Serious. All right, guy.
- 6:20OK. Do you want to fight about it
- 6:22or? I don't know.
- 6:24People were like, like, for five seconds supporting Jose Soriano
- 6:30and you're like, this guy sucks. He's a bum.
- 6:32He had one bad start, one no. No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 6:36Clarify. Let's let's not leave out the
- 6:39details. Who was the start against in in
- 6:41question? Who's?
- 6:43I don't know who's. I don't know my last name right
- 6:46now. I who was it?
- 6:48Who was it against? It was White Sox.
- 6:50Who's White Sox? I don't.
- 6:53How many teams are you going to have, guys?
- 6:55My White Sox. Too many teams.
- 6:59Too many again. Again, what did I say at the
- 7:02start of the season? I said the White Sox and the
- 7:04A's. I, I, I'm not going to keep
- 7:06repeating this every single week.
- 7:08You need to just remember the White Sox and the A's.
- 7:12You're right, that's on me. 500 or better this year.
- 7:16Bookmark it. That's on me.
- 7:18That's on me. Anyway, but to your point, Cam
- 7:22Schluttler presumed next in line, safe to say.
- 7:27There's some guys, yeah. Jan Levinson, I presume?
- 7:30He certainly, he certainly would be at the top of that.
- 7:33I would think Emerson Hancock would be there.
- 7:35Where is Emerson? Can you?
- 7:37Can you pull that? Where is Emerson?
- 7:38Hancock 259 ERA right now and seven starts.
- 7:42But odds wise, where? Does it?
- 7:43Should. Are you the odds?
- 7:45Yeah. I would be curious to see who
- 7:49would be after. Is it you think it's still
- 7:51Soriano? Would be after Schlittler I
- 7:53would guess. Am I?
- 7:55Am I missing? Pretty close, no?
- 7:57I mean, as far as what he's done so far, 174 ERAII can look up
- 8:01odds in that, but. Odds in that.
- 8:05Got one, love it. Love when we get it live.
- 8:08Yeah, Gavin Williams would be a guy I'd be watching for.
- 8:11He leads the American League in strikeouts, the ER as a little
- 8:13bit higher, but you know what I'm saying.
- 8:14If that continues to go, he's he's been really good this year.
- 8:18My guy Emerson Hancock, 14 KS last outing.
- 8:23As far as the odds maybe looking, I'm still seeing Max
- 8:28freed Dylan cease, which he's he's been striking out a lot
- 8:32too, so. Yeah.
- 8:40What do you what do you like? Do you like the the FanDuel?
- 8:42What do you I'm the? Biggest insider guy myself but
- 8:49no free ads. Schlittler with the lowest Max
- 8:53freed right after Dylan Cease, then Soriano, then degrom, then
- 8:58Gavin Williams. So what does this mean for the
- 9:03the the Motown kiddies? This is the.
- 9:10I think this is good news for them.
- 9:12I'm, I'm going to argue that this is no, I think this is good
- 9:14news. I think, I think he probably
- 9:19becomes a little bit more affordable.
- 9:22You know, if you're, if you're looking to negotiate, I, I as
- 9:27far as this year, you know, it's probably not great.
- 9:30It doesn't help that the rest of the rotation's kind of a mess
- 9:34right now, with a one Framber Valdez finding himself in more
- 9:41trouble, and then Flaherty has been booty.
- 9:46Justin Verlander is 68 years old.
- 9:52Who else am I missing in that? Casey Mize and Verlander both on
- 9:55the IL. Still, yeah, just a bunch of
- 9:57injuries. I don't know, man.
- 9:59I there's there's some pieces that I'd be excited about.
- 10:05I think Mcgonigal kind of give some spark to the future.
- 10:09Then a little bit to where like maybe the Tigers don't have to
- 10:12look at this as like a a right now window, but there's been
- 10:17some names. It's just like they're
- 10:19underperforming. Glaber's been bad.
- 10:23I, I, I would, I would maybe punt.
- 10:26To be honest, I would maybe punt.
- 10:28But going back to your point though, do do we really think a
- 10:31A2 to three month absence is going to make that big of a dent
- 10:36in his quote UN quote affordability, whether it be
- 10:44deadline, I think if you're the indoor contract?
- 10:47Do it while he's hurt. Like just get him at an all time
- 10:51low. Say hey dude here's an extension
- 10:54for you. Trust we love you.
- 10:57Don't go anywhere. Honest I think to that he would
- 11:02say here are my 2 Cy Youngs so you can shove that contract
- 11:07extension where the sun. Goes shine.
- 11:09You're probably right, but. Well, I think he's at least for
- 11:13his free agency case, he's going to be looking at some, some
- 11:18contracts that are maybe shorter in length with, with options
- 11:24built in and, and opt outs and, and all kinds of stuff.
- 11:27Because I mean, let's not, you know, let's not pretend that
- 11:32loose bodies in your elbow doesn't mean that the UCL could
- 11:36possibly be deteriorating there. So I mean, at least you're going
- 11:42to, even if you don't think so, you're going to use that.
- 11:45You always want to pay a guy a little bit less when you're,
- 11:49when you're talking about a guy like this.
- 11:50I mean, that's, that's, that's business.
- 11:52But I, I don't know, I think it's going to be interesting.
- 11:55I, I would even say what are the chances Tigers are in first
- 12:01place right now, but they're, they're under 500 that if he's
- 12:06back for the postseason, you got two ways to look at this.
- 12:08If he's back for the postseason, like you have a great chance of
- 12:12still making it without him when you just basically have to be a
- 12:16500 team to win that division. Or you look at it to say like or
- 12:23you look at it to say, is he movable?
- 12:29If you know he's coming back for the post season, would you deal
- 12:32for him? A little bit of a less of a cost
- 12:35because you're just getting him for the end of the season.
- 12:39You know, if you're a, if you're a team looking to go into the
- 12:42postseason, if you can add Scubal to your team.
- 12:45Well, where would that put him? Where would that put him time
- 12:47timeline wise, 'cause he had the, I think he had the surgery.
- 12:50What's today? Wednesday.
- 12:51Yeah, he had it today. So all of May, all of June, safe
- 12:59after all of July, Yeah. So I'm, I'm seeing September to
- 13:04be back all the way, but what they're saying is he will be
- 13:08back for, for any post season run that they would be in.
- 13:12So if that's what they're saying, if they're even playing
- 13:14it safe and he's and he just gets stretched out enough to say
- 13:17I'm ready to go. That's what I'm saying.
- 13:21Like if you're, if you're a team that's, that's in the race and,
- 13:24and it's not going to cost you 3 top 100 prospects to get this
- 13:29guy now because your, the, your rental cost is literally just
- 13:34for the postseason. I I wouldn't be surprised if if
- 13:38they entertain, if nothing else, if they get, if they receive
- 13:41offers, I wouldn't be surprised if they receive offers.
- 13:44How do now, how are we saying just the postseason because you
- 13:47just said August all the way. So if you're the team that's
- 13:50acquiring him, you're really he two of those months are going to
- 13:54be with, I mean, let's just say he gets traded at the deadline.
- 13:57Two of those months are going to be in Detroit.
- 14:00So you're only missing out on 1/3 of that.
- 14:03So I don't think you're you're losing out as much as you might
- 14:07think. Well, typically, yeah, Typically
- 14:10when you get a guy deadline wise, you have all of August,
- 14:13all of September, you're two months down the homestretch.
- 14:16I'm saying even if they're, even if this goes a little bit
- 14:19longer, I'm thinking his return is mid-september.
- 14:23Do you have to be? You got to be.
- 14:26I know what traded on that on the IL can you?
- 14:30Yeah. Can you?
- 14:33No, wait, what am I am I getting?
- 14:35Am I getting it twisted? Would they, would they be
- 14:37losing? Would all three of those months
- 14:41be with Kansas City or Kansas City Detroit?
- 14:46Would would the acquiring team be losing anything?
- 14:49May, June, July. I mean, that's assuming it.
- 14:55I'll look up. I'll look up a timetable here.
- 14:58Yeah, because what? No, depending upon when he gets
- 15:02back, they might not be losing anything.
- 15:03So yeah, I all have to say I don't, I don't think that.
- 15:06I don't think, going back to my earlier point, I don't think
- 15:08you're going to be losing that much or you're you.
- 15:11I don't think you're going to be getting much leverage if you're
- 15:15the team trying to get him, is what I'm saying.
- 15:20Yeah, I mean, unless it's some just some random team at that
- 15:28point who found themselves into a very good position, you know
- 15:30what I mean? Like, we have no chance of
- 15:32signing him long term. Let's just let's just get a
- 15:37rental car and drive the hell out of it for a couple months,
- 15:40you know what I mean? Like, what if it's like, yeah,
- 15:43dude, Stanley. Hudson in.
- 15:45Florida exactly like what if it's just some random, you know,
- 15:50like especially with the AL kind of being up for grabs,
- 15:53definitely in the central. But you know what if it's like
- 15:57some rays team that's just like, screw it, man, like let's let's
- 16:02just give him a go and yeah, let's go full throttle for a
- 16:06couple months and who cares, right?
- 16:09Like we got nothing to lose. I don't know, I I, I still think
- 16:16the tiger is in a weird spot. I know JB mentioned like the
- 16:20Central just being up for grabs, I'm just not very high on them
- 16:27and that rotation looked really good coming into the start of
- 16:31the season. Can I be honest?
- 16:33And Nate, you can, you can speak to this.
- 16:36I'm, I'll be honest, I'm I'm scared that we're dealing with
- 16:40the sleeping giant here as it pertains to the New York
- 16:44Yankees, regarding their willingness to lay all the chips
- 16:51on the table. I feel like we've been talking
- 16:53about them for so long. Oh, they bring in a Goldschmidt.
- 16:56They, they plug, they plug a hole like they're a mid market
- 16:59team kind of thing. I'm.
- 17:02Worried differently this year, I'll say that.
- 17:05I'm worried that the longer this goes on and the longer that that
- 17:09that becomes the rap, I'm worried that eventually things
- 17:15are going to change as much as I wouldn't want to see that.
- 17:17I'm worried that maybe this would be a scenario where
- 17:20they're whether they whether they wanted to sign him long
- 17:23term or to your point, if they're just like, we're not
- 17:26really interested, we're we're going to continue our our
- 17:28methods. We're not interested in signing
- 17:31that large of a contract, but why not bring him in for the
- 17:34stretch and see if we can get over the hump?
- 17:36I, I would be, I would be leery of that.
- 17:40It's interesting. I mean, they do have crazy
- 17:43starting pitching depth at the moment, but they are, they're
- 17:47operating differently, right? Like, you know, Louise Hill came
- 17:50up, struggled, they immediately sent him down.
- 17:54They're they're committing to moves a lot faster.
- 17:57Ben Rice started off as a platoon player at first base and
- 18:01all of a sudden he started hitting lefties.
- 18:02And so now he plays every day. You know, you look at the Elmer
- 18:09Rodriguez being brought up, sent back down right away.
- 18:12Volpe, you know, Caballero's hot.
- 18:14So no, let's just go ahead and send Volpe down like he doesn't
- 18:17need to. They're I think they're
- 18:19operating with a little more sense of urgency this year.
- 18:21So I wouldn't say that's the craziest thought or idea.
- 18:26It's just the the depth of of their starting pitching is, is
- 18:31crazy deep right now. So I don't know.
- 18:34But you know, I, I kind of see it as like a potential spark
- 18:42plug for sure if they if someone does move them, But that's also
- 18:46kind of risky. If like you don't wonder, are
- 18:50the Tigers willing to drop their price that low and are teams
- 18:54willing to pay that much for somebody coming off of elbow
- 18:57surgery? It does say two to three months
- 19:03too, so I think I was more just leaning on the three months.
- 19:06Yeah, it's always safe to air on the longest time to come back
- 19:10from surgery. I did because I know sometimes
- 19:13we nerd out on mechanics but I don't know a ton about pitching
- 19:19stuff. But I was watching this
- 19:20breakdown of like his right when he gets to almost landing point,
- 19:26he's very uphill. And where obviously most, most
- 19:31pitchers are trying to stay down the hill, he's very back
- 19:35shoulder, very low. The shoulder angle, the hip
- 19:39angle, it's all very uphill. And violent coming down.
- 19:44Yeah. And it's, it's interesting.
- 19:47He also doesn't have like a ton of that, that like glove elbow
- 19:52that like Yanks forward and really kind of pulls the the the
- 19:56rest of the motion together. He's very out right And the
- 20:00glove stays out and it kind of just comes down.
- 20:03You can you can kind of see the writing on the wall with
- 20:06mechanics sometimes. And I'm surprised that more
- 20:09people haven't been like, it's coming.
- 20:11It's coming. Like we said that about Chris
- 20:13Sale, You know what I mean? When he was still a white sock,
- 20:16it was like. He's great, but this motion is
- 20:21going to bring issues at some point.
- 20:23This frame can't support this kind.
- 20:24Of power, yeah. And so I'm, I'm kind of
- 20:27surprised because of how funky Scubal is that no one's really
- 20:33seen that. I mean, back-to-back Cy Young
- 20:35just kind of silences that, I suppose.
- 20:37But baseball is not in a better place without him.
- 20:42I I'll say that as much as much as we dig at him for Team USA
- 20:47stuff, he's a damn good pitcher. Wish we still had him.
- 20:56Who's we? Baseball.
- 20:58Baseball. Oh, OK, he's already a Yankee
- 21:03and I. Was like, I was like, was he
- 21:04previously a Yankee in another lifetime?
- 21:07I'm already there. You you sold it.
- 21:08You sold it well. Speaking of the state of
- 21:12baseball, baseball would be better off if Framer Valdez
- 21:16wasn't in it. I tell you that much.
- 21:18I'll go ahead and say that guy sucks.
- 21:22Look, when are we going to, when are we going to realize as a
- 21:27sport what, what and who Framer Valdez is?
- 21:33You know, you know, tip of the cap to AJ Hinch because I think
- 21:39AJ Hinch, his own manager, realizes the kind of player that
- 21:43framework out this is. And if you have no idea what
- 21:44we're talking about, the Tigers. Red Sox series me and I've been
- 21:48travelling. Please help me.
- 21:49Tigers, Red Sox. Yeah, that's why Nate's about to
- 21:52fall asleep. So that if if you're wondering,
- 21:55but honestly, he's he's holding his own.
- 21:57So tip of the cap to you, my friend.
- 21:59I'm. Having outer body experiences.
- 22:01Anytime I speak, it's not me. This is a little sauce.
- 22:07So basically this as I was saying the the Sox Tiger series
- 22:12is going on right now. Framber got his Framber
- 22:17basically got his lunch taken away from him in the form of ten
- 22:21runs, and he had given up back-to-back homers off of it
- 22:27was Abreu and. Who was the other?
- 22:32The hitter before Abreu. Was it Duran?
- 22:34No, it was Contreras, right? Contreras.
- 22:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. Contreras and Brave.
- 22:38And then proceeds to plunk story intentionally, very clearly,
- 22:46intentionally. Cause the dugouts start
- 22:47clearing. Here come the Where did it hit
- 22:50them? It was, yeah, it was the back.
- 22:54But very clearly intentional. The dugout's clear.
- 22:57Here come the here come the bullpens.
- 22:59And where does Framer Valdez go? The back of the pile and the Red
- 23:09Sox have obviously thought it was dirty.
- 23:11Chad Tracy and her manager thinks it was dirty.
- 23:14AJ Hinch wouldn't even come to bat for his own guy, which tells
- 23:19you what the deal was. And then of course, afterwards,
- 23:24Framber Valdez via a translator says I know how the situation is
- 23:34for this team, but there shouldn't be a suspension in
- 23:37that situation. You saw, he said it was not
- 23:40intentional. It might look like it, but it
- 23:42wasn't. I was trying to throw strikes
- 23:44after 2-2 consecutive home runs. I was trying to go back in the
- 23:48zone and that pitch came out of my hand.
- 23:51And then the the Hinge quote, he said, he said we play a really
- 23:57good brand of baseball here that didn't feel like it.
- 24:01He said it's not judging intent. I have no idea.
- 24:04But I know when you go out there on the field and you end up sort
- 24:07of in those confrontations, you usually feel like you're in the
- 24:09right. And it didn't feel good being
- 24:12out there. So I understand their
- 24:13frustrations. I understand the moment.
- 24:16And it was a low moment of a frustrating night.
- 24:21In other words, he wishes forever Valdez wasn't pitching
- 24:26for his ballclub. Think that's pretty clear.
- 24:30That's how I'm reading into it. But I just don't know at this
- 24:33point. And credit to baseball fans, I
- 24:35don't know that there are many people defending Framer Valdez
- 24:38at this point. But if there are, what are you
- 24:40doing? I mean, this guy is so
- 24:44obviously, so transparently a me guy, a guy that takes out his
- 24:51frustration on his own team. I think.
- 24:54And many people are speculating he was getting Hinch was leaving
- 24:57him out there to eat innings because the bullpen was cooked.
- 25:01And people are speculating that Framber wanted to get out of the
- 25:05game. So he took the matters into his
- 25:07own hands and said, I, I think I've got a very simple way to
- 25:11get out of this game and then was yanked.
- 25:14So, you know, credit to him for the smarts, I guess.
- 25:17But. I don't think that theory either
- 25:18you're. Still an idiot, no disrespect.
- 25:21Well, disrespect. It's good stuff.
- 25:26All right, I'll say I, I'll get into the, I'll say that I don't
- 25:32think there's ever a time unless I maybe twice.
- 25:37If, if you're a major leaguer, you want to be out there.
- 25:40I, I have a hard time with that one pretty much all the time.
- 25:43I know we like to say that a lot.
- 25:44What do you mean out there? Like to be like, I want to come
- 25:49out of the game is not something that most major leaguers are
- 25:52capable of saying. Sure.
- 25:54Like they're just not wired that way.
- 25:55That's that's why they're there. That's how they made it.
- 25:58But, and I imagine it does happen sometimes, I just think
- 26:02that's literally the last place I'll go.
- 26:04But I mean, we can go back to obviously crossing up the
- 26:07catcher last year, making a 20 minute video to try to convince
- 26:12suitors that he's not a bad guy. AJ Hinges coached him for three
- 26:17years in Houston. He knew what he was signing up
- 26:20for. I, I think what he's saying is,
- 26:23you know, this kind of sucked, but if you go back early in that
- 26:29game too, he's he's showing his grip to the guys on second base.
- 26:34They kept stealing 2nd to get back in position.
- 26:37And you could tell by the look on his face, he knew it was
- 26:39going on and he wasn't able to stop it.
- 26:42I mean, Rafaela got a Trevor story, tipped him off to what
- 26:47was coming and he took advantage of it and hit a three run Homer
- 26:51over the wall. I, I'm not taking anything away
- 26:53from a hitter. They're still hard to hit, but
- 26:56it's a little easier when you know what's coming.
- 26:58And if if that's where they were and and Framber was mad about
- 27:01it, to me, you're you're just be better.
- 27:05Stop showing your grip. Stop giving away your pitches.
- 27:09Don't. Here's the thing.
- 27:12That pitch he threw, his story spinal cord was the 1st 4 seam
- 27:18fastball he's thrown this season.
- 27:21The. Only one.
- 27:22Sinker. Baller, right?
- 27:24Yeah, the only one. It goes the other way.
- 27:26Someone, somebody had posted a picture like you know, you get
- 27:30the pitch breakdowns, like the graphic where it shows the
- 27:32strikes on it, the different colors of corresponding to the
- 27:34different pitches. There was 1 red dot on there and
- 27:38it was the four seam fastball and the tweet was trying to
- 27:41figure out which one he hit story with and it was the lone 4
- 27:45seam fastball on there. Guy's an idiot man.
- 27:50Like what? Like?
- 27:53And they're stuck with that scumbag for how long?
- 27:56Four year? 4 more years after this.
- 28:01Yeah, like that's, that's what you're working with guys.
- 28:04Yeah, I I looked it up right before I I said that just to
- 28:08validate, but. No, it was only three.
- 28:13Just remember he was out. He was out on the market
- 28:16waiting, waiting it out. And nobody, nobody would bid,
- 28:18nobody would, nobody would take the bait because he, he wanted,
- 28:23I think he wanted what, 5 or 6? Nobody would take it.
- 28:26So. To their credit, This is why.
- 28:28Three of us, yeah. But why?
- 28:33Why subject yourself to this in the 1st place?
- 28:36Like, sure, OK, we'll be the team that we we won't, we won't
- 28:38bite. We won't give him six years,
- 28:41we'll give him three. It's like, why?
- 28:42Why subject yourself to even the three if this is what you if, if
- 28:47this is who you knew you were getting?
- 28:51Interestingly enough, I think AJ Hinch, I think he's the guy that
- 28:57said, I, I've, I've had this guy before.
- 28:59I, I've had this guy before. I know how to deal with him.
- 29:02The toxic relationship I can I can fix him.
- 29:05Well I mean, what did Hinch do though?
- 29:08Those comments after the game? He's there today isn't he?
- 29:13Like Hinch isn't suspended. Yeah, Hinch got suspended the
- 29:17game, did he? Yeah.
- 29:19OK, this guy, this idiot is costing AJ Hinch games.
- 29:22He better have, that's all I'm saying.
- 29:24And Framber Valdez? Wait, what are you saying?
- 29:28Who better of what? Hinch better have the MLB is
- 29:32making statements like this. I think it's stupid.
- 29:35I don't think he should be. Yeah, he was suspended a game.
- 29:39I don't think he, I don't think he appealed.
- 29:41I'm in the game zone right now. I I haven't, I haven't seen any
- 29:44mention. I didn't see that he got the
- 29:45suspension, too. That happened.
- 29:47That happened to Don Kelly over here with Devinsky.
- 29:49We talked about it on Sunday. Throwing it to Stewart.
- 29:53Yeah, it was. Yeah, I guess.
- 29:55I mean it wasn't that blatant. It was literally a 2 seamer that
- 29:59ran in, but sure looked like he meant to do it the way he walked
- 30:02at him afterwards. Yeah, but he's not as good of a
- 30:06pitcher as Framber either. He absolutely could have just
- 30:09missed his spot. Yeah, Framber ended up getting,
- 30:13what was it, 66 games? Reduced to 5:00 today.
- 30:17Oh, it was reduced. Classic.
- 30:20I'm not Sal Stewart thing. I'm I'm kind of all done with
- 30:25young hitters chirping like you haven't.
- 30:29You haven't done anything yet. You haven't been here long
- 30:31enough. Like you don't, I don't know.
- 30:34I feel like that's just like an unwritten rule.
- 30:36Like, yeah, I'm sorry. Like it you're not relevant
- 30:39enough to think that we're like someone's throwing at you know
- 30:42what I mean? Like you're I kid.
- 30:44He's he's off to a hot start. It's a it's a inner division
- 30:47rivalry, like all this blah, blah, blah.
- 30:50But like earn, earn your spot a little bit more, dude.
- 30:53Like there's. Less of it.
- 30:54We've talked about this though. In fact, I think it was somewhat
- 30:56recently in. The minority with that but.
- 30:59The these younger players, especially the ones that come up
- 31:02in their impact players immediately, the more that that
- 31:05happens, the more it's the more it becomes commonplace that
- 31:08you've got 20/21/22 year olds basically running the show.
- 31:13There's going to be less of the the earn your Stripe
- 31:15conversation because it's like we're doing what what guys used
- 31:21to do in their primes. So.
- 31:22I think that's why I think that's, I don't like that it's
- 31:26switched to almost like a like pitcher only mentality at this
- 31:31point. You know what I mean?
- 31:33Like it. I feel like pitchers are the
- 31:35only ones that are policing that mindset.
- 31:41Hitters don't. Well, they're not anymore
- 31:44because they just get suspended if they go inside.
- 31:46So they're just taking that away.
- 31:48They're taking that whole brand of baseball away.
- 31:51And I, I don't, I don't necessarily I'm on the fence
- 31:56with it. I mean, I think that there is a
- 31:57place. Going about it, yeah, but chin
- 32:00but. Like, I just think right now the
- 32:01way just throw the ball so hard right now that I think people
- 32:05just they don't want to see injuries.
- 32:06I don't really know as far as the S Stewart thing though.
- 32:10I mean, that was pretty much all Davinsky there.
- 32:12Bring bringing it back to Pittsburgh, No.
- 32:14No, no, but I mean, because I don't think it was the fact that
- 32:17Sal Stewart was saying anything. So I just for his sake, I don't,
- 32:23I don't really think that's even what it was.
- 32:24I'll defends. Everywhere JB is depending on
- 32:26red. I'll defend Sal Stewart there.
- 32:28I mean, I'm not going to defend Davinsky.
- 32:31He's he cost our manager a game. You saw if you watch the game
- 32:34last night, they kind of needed DK to be there.
- 32:37But Donny. Boy because Because Donnie boy.
- 32:44Yeah, so I don't know, Davinsky just kind of showed up because
- 32:47he had to and gave up a couple homers and it's time for him to
- 32:50go. I think he took offence to the
- 32:53fact that he got set before the the hitter looked up and there's
- 32:58just no need to do that like. That's a whole thing.
- 33:00That happens all the time. Not that we got to talk about
- 33:02the pitch clock or anything, but that's an element to all this
- 33:05that I hate. Is this whole like the mind game
- 33:09that you play with, with the not looking up, the trying to get
- 33:13guys to, you know, to run the clock, things like like just can
- 33:19we just have the pitch clock be the pitch clock and not have it
- 33:21be a game within the game? Like it's whatever anyway.
- 33:25But yeah, going back to your point about policing robbed Baio
- 33:29of a chance to to even the score, if you will, because they
- 33:32they issued warnings and everything.
- 33:34It's like, why don't why don't our guys get a shot to sort of
- 33:38police things out, but whatever. I don't like that either.
- 33:40Who was it? Who was the?
- 33:42Is that the the famous argument between the umpire where he was?
- 33:48Oh, you give us a shot. You give us a shot.
- 33:51Collins What's a guy's name for the Mets?
- 33:54Terry. Terry Collins, that was it.
- 33:56You didn't even give us a shot. We're in the jackpot, Terry.
- 34:02That's a great clip. That's an unbelievable clip.
- 34:08Any who's Speaking of Speaking of a former Ranger, former Astro
- 34:18in Framer Valdez, Let's talk about a current Astro.
- 34:21Woven together, isn't it? Yeah, kind of is kind of is
- 34:26Carlos Correa out for the rest of the year undergoing season
- 34:30ending surgery after he suffered A torn tendon in his left ankle.
- 34:35Seeing a lot of people say to point back to the, what was it
- 34:41the the Giants acquisition and and the OR no?
- 34:45Well, he said the Twins and the Giants bailed on the on the
- 34:49contract. What were the Mets involved in?
- 34:52The Were the Mets in the mix with that, too?
- 34:54Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I had a lot.
- 34:57There was I saw a lot of people pointing back to that being
- 34:59like, oh, so they were they were right in in backing out.
- 35:02It's like, well, if if your point that you're making is
- 35:08related to his overall health or lack thereof, then sure.
- 35:12But this was a different leg. If if that's what you're or if
- 35:17that's a leg you're worried about, it's not that one
- 35:21different side, but All in all, just another another, another
- 35:30obstacle for a scuffling. Well, they're not scuffling.
- 35:34They're just downright bad right now.
- 35:35The Houston Astros, tough blow for them.
- 35:39Seems like he was off to a halfway decent start this year.
- 35:43Yeah. Yeah, I feel like they, I think
- 35:48they just made some poor decisions, you know, like
- 35:54bringing Altuve back at second. I think he, I think he's ranked
- 35:59as one of, if not the worst defensive second baseman in
- 36:03baseball at the moment. You traded away Mauricio Duban,
- 36:08who is flashing leather all over the place for the Braves.
- 36:14Swinging it too. Yeah, like he's, he's been
- 36:17incredible. You know, I, I, I like Jeremy
- 36:22Pena, but outside of that like 1 postseason, it's it just hasn't
- 36:29really like reached what we all thought he was.
- 36:33I yeah, I mean, I, I think they just committed in some, in the
- 36:37wrong directions in some places, you know, and obviously.
- 36:41He's been injured too. He's only played 10 games.
- 36:44Right, right. But even, I mean, just going
- 36:47going back, yeah, for, you know, last year, 2 years, it's just, I
- 36:52don't know, it's, it's a lot of a lot of weird decisions that
- 36:57have kind of backfired. And it's starting to it's
- 36:59starting to show up in, in their overall record, right.
- 37:02We've already gone at length with the with what's his face,
- 37:10who's been who, who who is playing first from the Cubs?
- 37:17He's like split in time between 1st and 3rd.
- 37:19Oh, parades. Parades, yeah.
- 37:22Yeah. And, you know, like, what do we
- 37:25do with Jordan? Like, how often do we get him?
- 37:27And left? It's just I, I think it's a
- 37:29poorly built roster. And now it's like really
- 37:32starting to show its teeth. I think outside of that, I mean,
- 37:35you just named all the good players on their team.
- 37:37If you consider Christian Walker, he's killing the ball,
- 37:39too. But between him, Correa, Paredes
- 37:42and Alvarez, like they're the offense, there's nobody.
- 37:45Well, yeah. And then like everybody else is
- 37:48not, I guess Christian Vasquez is is doing better than Yan or
- 37:53Diaz was, but pitching's been not as good.
- 37:58I'm excited to see what the Astros do with Jordan because
- 38:07I'm seeing some some talk about possibly moving off of him
- 38:12because they have. I mean that would be a very
- 38:15quick reload. If you're you can get some.
- 38:18Massive. And now would be the time.
- 38:20I mean, if you're going to do it, do it this year.
- 38:22A guy's on an absolute tear and if you're looking to replenish.
- 38:27MVP candidate? No problem.
- 38:28Oh for sure, and if you're looking to replenish that farm,
- 38:31which is pretty much non existent at this point, now is
- 38:36the time when you pull the trigger.
- 38:40Yeah, two more years after this, it it just under 27,000,000 for
- 38:44him too. So you're talking about
- 38:45acquiring a guy who's you're getting him this year plus two
- 38:49more years like you can get a haul for that.
- 38:52Where would be a cool place you'd want to see him?
- 39:04Let's see who could who could benefit from a guy like you're
- 39:12done. Somewhere that's like not had a
- 39:27solidified DH and it's OK with OK with him just plugging that.
- 39:37Yeah, and I mean, it's got to be a team willing to.
- 39:39Atlanta I know Dom Smith is done well, but I don't think he's
- 39:45even playing that much. Will they will they take on that
- 39:50money, though? It seemed like they were pretty
- 39:52cautious about spending that money.
- 39:55It's. Fair next?
- 39:59Who's next? You knew who would.
- 40:03I mean that they probably wouldn't spend the money, but do
- 40:06you know if they were aggressive enough if if Cincinnati's had
- 40:10enough of key? Brian Hayes at third, plays Gino
- 40:12at 3rd and brings in your Don to DH?
- 40:15Play your Don at 3rd. Could you imagine him and that
- 40:20in the Great American Small Park and how small he would make that
- 40:24place look? I'll tell you the hubs.
- 40:28Tell you a team that could use a full time DH?
- 40:30An actual DH? Boston Red Sox.
- 40:34Yeah. And I thought that too, like
- 40:36that initially came to mind because they have like obviously
- 40:39big league guys ready to roll that fit right into the Astros
- 40:43outfield. Obviously in in other pieces.
- 40:47It's just are they going to be in the in the spot of contention
- 40:52come deadline time? You know, well, something I've
- 40:55been hearing in the aftermath that the whole core of firing
- 40:57and all that stuff is there's people, people who've been
- 41:01making the case. And I, I, I can't necessarily
- 41:04disagree. Is that the, the point that
- 41:08they're making is that Craig Breslow might be forced, whether
- 41:13in legitimate, legitimate contention or not, to put all
- 41:19the chips on the table because he knows that his time is, is
- 41:22coming to an end. And so he might be in a even if
- 41:26they're out of it by a handful of games at, at whatever
- 41:29deadline or threshold you want to look at, he may be forced to
- 41:33to show his hand and, and, and make good point, even if it's a
- 41:39senseless move in the eyes of the baseball world.
- 41:43Yeah, that's very fair. Nate, you have a point there
- 41:47with with the Cubs. Did they lock Ballesteros up to
- 41:52a big contract? That's that's no, he's he's not
- 41:58so he's he's a rookie. He played 20 games last year.
- 42:05He's DH ING for them right now. He's a good player.
- 42:07He's hitting three O 2 with six homers this year, but very young
- 42:12and not your Don, you know what I'm saying?
- 42:16So if he goes back in that deal, like I could see the I could see
- 42:20the Astros listening on there. He's catcher first base DH ING
- 42:25right now 'cause he he hits, that's for sure.
- 42:30I don't know. I could see something like that.
- 42:33Is that who Dalton Rushing called fat?
- 42:37I don't know that that was, wait, who did you think it was
- 42:42or who did you ask about? Ballas Stairs.
- 42:44No, it was. That's going to bother me.
- 42:49Is it like on the Cubs? Yeah, because it was Nico Horner
- 42:53that's standing in the box when he.
- 42:55Miguel Amaya. Yeah.
- 42:56Miguel Amaya, That's yeah. Yeah, I don't know, just fun to
- 43:02think about. Well, hopefully you're going to
- 43:04be really fun a a team that would never happen.
- 43:07I but I think it'd be cool. It would be the Royals.
- 43:11I think that would just be. That'd be sweet, man.
- 43:14Just get a freaking bopper. Who's DH in for the Royals?
- 43:21It's probably a rotate. Well, yeah, Alpharez's.
- 43:24Yeah. Alpharez bad defensively.
- 43:26I think he's officially like crossed over into a liability as
- 43:31a catcher. But it is.
- 43:33It is a rotation though I believe.
- 43:35Yeah, Carter Jensen. Yeah.
- 43:37That's right, yeah. Probably cags occasionally, I
- 43:42don't know. Probably Lane Thomas.
- 43:45Who is that? Take care, Correa adios.
- 43:57We're talking you're Don. That sure suck.
- 44:09Speaking of clapping, let's clap it up for Maddio coming into
- 44:20today, Wednesday, 13 homers on the year.
- 44:26The last week alone, he's got 5 during that same span.
- 44:33Is slugging slugging 963? Slugging, yeah.
- 44:44Not no. PS.
- 44:45Yeah, no, yeah. I can't, cannot stress enough.
- 44:47This is slugging so great on great on Matty O having a pretty
- 44:55good, great year and continuing to uphold my take.
- 44:59From what year did that trade go down?
- 45:08Where I said that they're going to, they're going to forget who
- 45:12Freddie Freeman even was. 20. Three, I tell you what, They're
- 45:17loving it. They're loving some Maddio.
- 45:19Yeah, that sounds right. 22. 22 Yeah, that sounds right.
- 45:27Yeah, he. Looks good, he looks locked in,
- 45:30looks on time. Feel like that's the only thing.
- 45:33The only issue you ever has is timing.
- 45:36Dude, swing is money. He has dialed Kazumo Komodo.
- 45:45Well, back. Bang, 10 homers on the year
- 45:49coming into today. Also in the last week alone, 5
- 45:55homers, slugging 839. He's hitting 323 in that span.
- 46:02Maddie O by the way, in that in the last week 333 so talking
- 46:07about two guys are just tearing a cover off the ball.
- 46:13Yeah man, just a a bright spot for the Toronto Blue Jays of the
- 46:21great white North. It's been really cool to see We
- 46:26I made the point. What was it last week, the week
- 46:28before with Murakami being really just seeing seeing him
- 46:34really settle in because like we talked about any time a guy
- 46:37comes over, you just don't know how they're going to respond
- 46:39regardless how how well they're tearing the cover off the ball
- 46:42overseas. You just you don't know.
- 46:44And both of those got both of those guys have proven that they
- 46:47are. That is not that is not an issue
- 46:49for them. So really cool to see them
- 46:51settling in, seeing the ball real well and mashing on the
- 46:58bump. Davis, Martin.
- 47:06All in the year sporting an ERA of 164 with a WHIP of 102.
- 47:15His last three starts alone, he's notched 24 strikeouts, 10
- 47:21in his most recent against the in his outing against the
- 47:24Angels, Davis Martin throwing the ball real well for my
- 47:29Chicago White Sox, a huge part as to why they're playing as
- 47:35well as they are. Another name going back to our
- 47:40conversation, could we could, could we put Davis Martin into
- 47:46the American League Cy Young conversation?
- 47:52Sure. Not as a front runner, not as
- 47:54even a top three candidate, but a contender.
- 48:01You could. I mean, he's #2.
- 48:03That's all I was looking for. #2 in the American League, in in
- 48:06ERA. And lastly here I believe making
- 48:14his first appearance, but this is all as I always say this it's
- 48:17always tricky with him because it's just kind of unfair because
- 48:20of who he is, what he does. If if you know, it was up to, if
- 48:27it was up to the the baseball world, he'd probably be in here
- 48:30every week. But I, I can't do that.
- 48:32So I had to pick and choose. But Megan is what I believe is
- 48:36debut. Could be.
- 48:38For 2026, Shohei Otani specifically, I mean, he's he's
- 48:46hitting, but what's really standing out this year is his
- 48:51pitching, his last start. Did they did they also do the
- 48:55whole no hidden thing? Because I know it was the two
- 49:00before, but I don't know with his last one I.
- 49:02Don't know, I don't think they did, but I.
- 49:06Guess it's been yesterday. Yeah, I don't know.
- 49:08I'll have to look. I he he hasn't been hitting on
- 49:13those start days like well, so I think, I think they're starting
- 49:18to commit to that, it seems. But let me check.
- 49:23Please hold. Please wait for me.
- 49:25Hold on, hang it, Hold on, hold on.
- 49:29Yeah, he didn't. He didn't hit yesterday.
- 49:32OK, so that's. That might be done.
- 49:33That might be. Just I think that seems to be
- 49:37the, yeah, I mean. Less of a hassle for me on
- 49:41fantasy, that's for sure. Yeah, that's a that's a blessing
- 49:44for you. No, I think that that's probably
- 49:48the the right way to play it. And it's been paying off, man,
- 49:50on the bump. He is.
- 49:52He has been lights out his last three starts, 19 innings, ERA of
- 49:5714224 strikeouts. However, the Dodgers are O and
- 50:00three in those games and that's all according to Statmuse.
- 50:05No run support for this guy. Guy gave up two homers in a game
- 50:10for the first time in like what, forever, maybe ever?
- 50:14And they lose 1 say what was it 2 to 1?
- 50:19So that's that's fun. But the strikeout numbers there,
- 50:24man. I mean, looking at the last four
- 50:26starts he's made going. Back that he got hit with the L
- 50:30yesterday. Crazy.
- 50:32Super annoying. Yeah, the last two stars going
- 50:36back to his April 15th start against the Mets. 10 strikeouts.
- 50:42Next game against the Giants, 7 strikeouts, 9 strikeouts, 8
- 50:46strikeouts. So the punch out stuff is there.
- 50:50He's giving you 6 innings, just about as much of A lock as it
- 50:56could be. It went seven against Houston
- 50:59yesterday. So everything is clicking on the
- 51:02bump for Shohei, which is really cool to see.
- 51:05His name has obviously been in the the Siong conversation.
- 51:09So that's, that's, I mean, that's the last.
- 51:12That's the last. I'm not a big, not a big Marvel
- 51:16Thanos guy, but that's the last. It's the thing that Thanos
- 51:22collects stones, yes. Infinity Stones.
- 51:27Infinity stones, Yes, the last Infinity stone.
- 51:30He's got a. Yeah, nerds, we don't know.
- 51:32I don't know. You were the one that answered
- 51:34the questions. I know I never saw that movie.
- 51:36It's. Only been 12 times that Otani's
- 51:40given up multiple homers in a game.
- 51:45Crazy. The most being 4/4 home runs in
- 51:50a game that he won. He gave up four home runs.
- 51:53Who was that against? I'm not at liberty to say go.
- 52:03Pirate close the book Iron. Man, by the way, that was a good
- 52:06one. What are?
- 52:10We talking about Iron Man for? You're talking superheroes.
- 52:16That was back in 23, by the way. Henry Davis first player to take
- 52:21Shohei deep twice in the same game.
- 52:25What are your thoughts about Spider Man?
- 52:29Is he Marvel? He's not Marvel.
- 52:31He's. DC we're just talking
- 52:33superheroes. No, he is Marvel because he's in
- 52:35the isn't he in all the all the. No, I thought Spider Man's DC.
- 52:41Marvels. He's Avengers.
- 52:44No, he's not an Avenger. He's all up in The Avengers,
- 52:47dude, isn't he? I don't know about that, but my
- 52:53boys, my boys like Spidey and I know that's Marvel.
- 52:56Spider Man's cool on his own. Superman.
- 52:59He don't need to be a part of the part of the group.
- 53:02Superman. Why did I say that Superman is
- 53:06DC? Hot take, I don't really like
- 53:10Superman. No, Iron Man's my favorite.
- 53:13Batman's my favorite. You would be a Batman guy.
- 53:17Yeah. That that checks out.
- 53:20You don't like Superman, You like Batman.
- 53:22Why? Because Superman has all the
- 53:23powers of Batman knows karate. Yeah.
- 53:27That's it. He just knows karate.
- 53:28Up man just keeps getting up. Superman's lame.
- 53:38Yeah, that's just too much. So Pi was.
- 53:40Like Aquaman before Superman. No, I'm just kidding.
- 53:42I've I've no no reason to go with Aquaman.
- 53:47Not a big Aquaman guy. I never saw that movie either.
- 53:50Nor did I I. Feel like DC just doesn't have
- 53:53the line up. That no, we're talking like
- 53:57National League versus American League, All Star games off the
- 54:00rails. That's a that's a bloodbath.
- 54:05Speaking of Aquaman, that wasn't that the movie that Amber Heard
- 54:08was in? The Johnny Depp chick.
- 54:14Yeah. What?
- 54:16Yeah, she was in. Isn't she an Aquaman or was an
- 54:19Aquaman? By the way, that that was Jason
- 54:22Momoa, right? Yeah, Jason Momoa, by the way.
- 54:25I'm in that documentary, by the way, on Netflix.
- 54:28I think it's on Netflix. I make a cameo in that
- 54:30appearance. I forgot that I think we were
- 54:32supposed to record that day and Kyle's like, I'm in the
- 54:36courthouse. I'm in the courthouse.
- 54:38I'm like, what are you talking about?
- 54:40I let I, I think I walked to the courthouse because it was that
- 54:44close to where I lived, because that's where the that's where
- 54:47the Johnny Depp trial was being held.
- 54:49Dude, it was crazy. It was that place was buzzing
- 54:56like there was a media there all the time.
- 55:00You at any given point you could be like crossing the street and
- 55:03Johnny Depp would be driving by with the window down in his SUV
- 55:07just like waving the people. It was nuts.
- 55:10But anyway, yeah, I make a if you go back, I'm in the back of
- 55:13the courthouse and some of those scenes, so pretty wild, Crazy
- 55:18times, man. Just weird side quests.
- 55:23It's got to be the weirdest side quest anyone has ever done.
- 55:28Crazy crazy. Anyway, closing the book, talk
- 55:39about one of the greatest side quests.
- 55:41What I would imagine of all time is being the voice of the
- 55:43Yankees. Nate, your guy, John Sterling
- 55:48passed away. Sad day.
- 55:52Sad day for baseball. I'm not going to lie, man, it,
- 55:56it hit me. I was, I was sad all day that
- 56:01he's just such a happy dude. He was just super, just himself.
- 56:05Very unique, very goofy, very much the the old school
- 56:11storyteller over the mic obviously has like, you know, a
- 56:16ton of like unique, fun, customized home run calls.
- 56:25Yeah, I think I saw, I watched some story that Michael Kay was
- 56:28saying about him wanting to to hold on as long as he could to
- 56:33walk his daughter down the aisle.
- 56:34I was like, dude, jeez, crying about a guy I've never met.
- 56:37But it really is like, I don't know, there when you hear voices
- 56:44similar to the way, you know, I'm sure Dodgers fans felt about
- 56:47Vin Scully and, and baseball fans in general.
- 56:50Like, it's just, he's just awesome and and just so much
- 56:56fun. And his dynamic with Susan
- 56:59Waldman in the booth was always just really cool.
- 57:02And yeah, but it was it was a sad day for sure, but looks like
- 57:10the Yanks will be rocking the the patch on their sleeve with
- 57:15the microphone, which I think is really cool.
- 57:19I don't know. I they did it on the day he
- 57:22passed. I don't I haven't been out of
- 57:24town, so I haven't really watched.
- 57:25But they played his, you know, his famous Yankees win, Yankees
- 57:33win over the speakers after that, that one game.
- 57:39I think all the fans are like just do that after.
- 57:41I don't think they did 'cause I, I saw, I saw, Boone said after
- 57:44that game. It's like, ah, that'd be
- 57:46something that'd be a nice tip of the cap to do it, like moving
- 57:48forward. And I don't think, I think I saw
- 57:50that they didn't do it. I'm like classic Yankees.
- 57:52Yeah, I don't know why, man. I, I'm, I don't know if they're
- 57:55fighting that or, you know, maybe it's something that
- 57:57they'll, I mean, who knows? They still played New York, NY
- 58:00after losses for years up until up until last year, I think.
- 58:04So who knows, maybe it'll come. But man, just yeah, some iconic
- 58:10calls. By the way, it reminded me that
- 58:14I did not realize your fantasy team name is a home run call of
- 58:20his. Romy, my homie was for Austin
- 58:25Romine's home runs, so let that sit in for a SEC.
- 58:32Did you know that, Kyle? Might have to go change.
- 58:34That I didn't know that, no disrespect to Austin Romine, but
- 58:38I didn't, I didn't know he warned the custom home run call.
- 58:41Every That was. The beauty of John Sterling,
- 58:43though, is that everybody did, and that it was cool.
- 58:47Like everybody got one. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:49Started with Bernie Williams. Burn, baby, burn, right?
- 58:53Yeah. And Susan Waldman said there was
- 58:54a complete accident. Like it was just he did it.
- 58:57That was the first time he did it and it was just out of
- 58:59excitement and I didn't know the the obviously not one of my
- 59:05favorite players, but the a rod one that a bomb from a rod, like
- 59:09a lot of there's a lot of heat around it and like a lot of
- 59:12people were like, you can't say that.
- 59:15And then a Rod's mom was like, no, I love it.
- 59:18And he's like, screw it, I'm going to keep doing it then.
- 59:21So, John. You can't say that.
- 59:23In this city, like, yeah, right. Like, but no, dude, just just a
- 59:29super fun name and fun guy. And yeah, sad day, but I think
- 59:38the Yankees did a good job with the honoring and, you know,
- 59:41Michael Kay and Susan Waldman kind of walking out with flowers
- 59:44and placing them on the plate. Michael Kay's first home run
- 59:49call was a copy of John Sterling's home run call, which
- 59:54was Aaron Judge. So just a lot of cool stuff.
- 1:00:00Good memories. I didn't grow up in the area,
- 1:00:04but I love, you know, just like reading all the comments of
- 1:00:07Yankee fans being like that. I grew up and it made me think
- 1:00:10of my dad, you know, like growing up with my dad,
- 1:00:12listening to games in the car and stuff like that.
- 1:00:15I think, you know, sometimes we forget that the broadcasters
- 1:00:20have just as much of an influence sometimes as as
- 1:00:24players do. So awesome dude.
- 1:00:29Awesome dude. Well, I mentioned an awesome
- 1:00:36dude, and I can think of another awesome dude.
- 1:00:42Marais, Question of the Week. It's time for Marais Question of
- 1:00:47the Week. Let's let's give a let's give a
- 1:00:49little shout out to Marais Marais fighting it right now.
- 1:00:53So we love you, Marais, if you're hearing this, Apparently
- 1:00:56it's some He's working on a car and just absolutely destroyed
- 1:01:01his knee. So I think he's on crutches
- 1:01:02right now. I was supposed to see him.
- 1:01:05We couldn't even meet up his bedroom, I think.
- 1:01:11Terrible. Yeah.
- 1:01:14I'm surprised he didn't try to put wheels on the crutches or
- 1:01:17something and he. Said he said he was trying to
- 1:01:20talk his wife into letting him out and his wife said no, no
- 1:01:24shot. No shot.
- 1:01:32I know J BS. Oh.
- 1:01:34Hold on, hold on, hold on. Ray's question of the week is be
- 1:01:40at GM for a second and go back in time.
- 1:01:42Which one player would you not have traded?
- 1:01:45Slash, let go, and then parentheses with the possibility
- 1:01:49of a butterfly effect. I'll go real quick.
- 1:01:57I saw an interesting, I don't know if it was a Twitter thread
- 1:02:00or something or if it was like even a a video, but if somebody
- 1:02:07talking about the the butterfly effect of the Mookie Betts trade
- 1:02:13and how? That's fun.
- 1:02:15That it arguably, I mean, it's like you obviously have no way
- 1:02:23of knowing, but they made the case that it led to the version
- 1:02:28of baseball that we have even today.
- 1:02:30I know it hasn't been that long, but just with the way that the
- 1:02:33Dodgers franchise progressed that you could in theory, if you
- 1:02:39wanted to. I'm sure there's different
- 1:02:40angles you could take, but if you wanted to, you could look at
- 1:02:43the Mookie Betts acquisition as grounds for why the Dodgers are
- 1:02:50playing at the level that they're playing right now.
- 1:02:52So that kind of sucks, especially given who they got
- 1:02:56them from in my case. But I would I'd, I'd go ahead
- 1:03:00and probably say that. That's a fun butterfly effect.
- 1:03:03Let's go through that for a SEC. Like what else is entailed
- 1:03:09there? Verdugo doesn't leave LA.
- 1:03:18What else is in that? Nothing great, right?
- 1:03:22It was Jeter Downs. I was about to say Jeter Downs.
- 1:03:26Yep. Connor Wong.
- 1:03:29But David Price went along with. It's a good point too, yeah, but
- 1:03:34not that he was like stand out productive for the Dodgers, but.
- 1:03:40Yeah. But then I think that opened the
- 1:03:42the floodgates even more so and it and increase their
- 1:03:47willingness to yeah, no, I agree.
- 1:03:53I agree. I definitely not that not that
- 1:03:55they were pinching pennies beforehand, but I think once,
- 1:03:58once, yeah, once the Mookie news came over the wire.
- 1:04:02They're just like, all right. Yeah, they just kept swiping
- 1:04:04that credit card. Now we go.
- 1:04:08So let I mean, if the if, if the Red Sox still had those those
- 1:04:14two names, if they still had Mookie and David Price.
- 1:04:20You could have you could make your argument that they have
- 1:04:25what they need to get over the hump in 21 when they were, I
- 1:04:32mean, that's the closest they've been since.
- 1:04:34I mean, they won the World Series in 18.
- 1:04:35Obviously Mookie was still there, but 21, that could have
- 1:04:40been a year. They they secured another one.
- 1:04:48It's good stuff. ALCS against the Astros.
- 1:04:52JB Is it Koch? I mean, that would be that would
- 1:05:01be like the the heart 1, you know what I mean?
- 1:05:04Yeah, but, but we don't have, we don't have Brian Reynolds, who's
- 1:05:09also signed a long term deal and has been a pretty solid player.
- 1:05:14What about like Garrett Cole? No, not Garrett Cole.
- 1:05:22I think the GM needed change at that point.
- 1:05:25The the philosophy of the Pirates.
- 1:05:27I mean, they were he took off because of what they were
- 1:05:31pushing him to do there. That was more on the
- 1:05:34organization's fault that he he had the I mean, he had a solid
- 1:05:38year, but I don't think that would be it.
- 1:05:42I think I'd go back to like air Mr. Ramirez, him and Kenny
- 1:05:46Lofton being moved to the the Cubs back then was just major
- 1:05:51and it was I mean the if you would see the return there,
- 1:05:56Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez and I mean just nothing really
- 1:06:05bad trade. That would be one.
- 1:06:08I was trying to think of something outside of the of the
- 1:06:12Pirates though. But.
- 1:06:14But that's a good butterfly effect on the opposite side, you
- 1:06:17know what I mean? Like the Cubs not not having
- 1:06:22Ramis Ramirez would be pretty, pretty interesting.
- 1:06:27Yeah, I mean, and the fact that they they got Ramirez and Kenny
- 1:06:33Lofton in that deal too, or Jeez Louise, Matt Brubeck, Jose
- 1:06:41Hernandez and Bobby Hill, like can he often?
- 1:06:44Get moved right away. He moved around quite a bit.
- 1:06:51I don't. I don't remember him as a cub at
- 1:06:53all. Yeah, it looks like just, I
- 1:06:54mean, the rest of that 2003 season and then he went on and
- 1:06:59signed with New York in the like after that.
- 1:07:06There's an Ant on my mic. Good stuff.
- 1:07:09Do you hear? Is he dropping some takes?
- 1:07:11I can't really hear. I'm sorry, in the hand.
- 1:07:23I looked. I looked up.
- 1:07:24Just like. Bro is spitting right now
- 1:07:27trades. Just like horrible trades in
- 1:07:32Yankee history and there wasn't like anything like monumental
- 1:07:37that I can easily say. One that surprised me that I
- 1:07:42wasn't aware of was Fred McGriff did not know that Fred McGriff
- 1:07:48was was drafted by the Yankees. Was he really?
- 1:07:52Yeah, yeah. Bunch of no names that were in
- 1:07:56return. It was like a 9th rounder
- 1:07:58though. It's weird, man.
- 1:08:00Kill it. Squish it.
- 1:08:03Dude, he's just trying to make a trying to make a, a career out
- 1:08:07of podcast and am I going to crush his dreams?
- 1:08:11Is he going to die before this is even posted?
- 1:08:14Right look, he's back on the mic bars.
- 1:08:20Oh boy. Wait, so how long did that
- 1:08:22tenure last then for McGriff? He was, he was a minor leaguer,
- 1:08:25I think. I don't, I don't think he was
- 1:08:27anything yet. Never.
- 1:08:29But obviously, you know, freaking Hall of Famer.
- 1:08:33Right. But no, I think that I I went
- 1:08:41more signing and not, not that it was like a let go because I
- 1:08:45think there was an offer thrown out there, but I think what
- 1:08:48could have been if Robbie Cano stayed as as a Yankee the rest
- 1:08:51of his career, that was that was the first thing that came to
- 1:08:55mind for me. The BE DS didn't come until
- 1:08:58afterwards, right? Yeah, correct.
- 1:09:01Yeah, that was in. I was in Seattle, yeah.
- 1:09:07Yeah, I wonder how that I wonder how that career trajectory would
- 1:09:10have been different if he stayed in New York.
- 1:09:12Yeah, I mean, there's like I looked at some numbers and like
- 1:09:16I didn't realize he's three O 1 career batting average I think
- 1:09:23and. People forget how good he was
- 1:09:25dude, he was nasty. He was insane.
- 1:09:28And then like home runs, I think he's in like the mid three
- 1:09:31hundreds. So you got to assume in Yankee
- 1:09:32Stadium like it's over 400. You know, like butterfly effect.
- 1:09:38Maybe he doesn't pull a jerkson Profar and say I need to live up
- 1:09:43to the contract and take PEDs. Who knows.
- 1:09:51But he's been a black hole at second base ever since.
- 1:09:55Pushing 4 hundo as a second baseman, that's it's pretty
- 1:09:59solid. Yeah, he was.
- 1:10:02He was insane. Yeah, that's a good question, I
- 1:10:09think, I think. Ant Man agrees.
- 1:10:11Just in general, Murray, I think that's a good question.
- 1:10:14Murray. I'd be curious to know big.
- 1:10:19Promotion Murray. I'd be curious to know what
- 1:10:22Murray's answer on this would be for the Dodgers.
- 1:10:29It'd be interesting to. Let's play Jim real quick for
- 1:10:32the Dodgers, see if see if it aligns with what he would he
- 1:10:36would say, 'cause I'm sure he'll give.
- 1:10:37Him great credit, by the way, as a Dodgers fan.
- 1:10:39He's very rational. He's a rational Dodgers fan.
- 1:10:45I saw a post the other day, it wasn't Murray, but I saw a post
- 1:10:47the other day where it was like, so it was somebody complaining
- 1:10:51on Twitter and they're like, when you remember that watching
- 1:10:53baseball is optional or when I when I remember that watching my
- 1:10:57team is optional. And then somebody quote tweeted
- 1:11:00and said you'll never guess what team is in the header.
- 1:11:03And I went to the account and it was a Dodgers fan and I'm like,
- 1:11:05shut up, Shut up, y'all Dassy man?
- 1:11:15What about like that massive trade, like the early 20 teens
- 1:11:23Crawford with the Marlins big one.
- 1:11:29Am I guess not the not the Marlins.
- 1:11:31I was thinking the Mets. Sorry.
- 1:11:33The like Adrian Gonzalez days and like the, yeah, the Carl
- 1:11:37Crawford days. With the Red Sox.
- 1:11:39Yeah, yeah, that'd be interesting.
- 1:11:47Yeah, I think you'd have to go back further.
- 1:11:48I mean, they were, I don't know. I mean, it would have, it would
- 1:11:54have to be like a Cutch play for me, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:56It has to be like, I just didn't want to see X go to another
- 1:12:00team, you know what I mean? His answer, His answer.
- 1:12:04Isn't he a big kike guy? Maybe it was letting kike go.
- 1:12:08I mean, I know he's back, but. Yeah, and then he's back in the
- 1:12:11in the One World Series, so I mean.
- 1:12:14Yeah, you almost got to go to like world CRI I'm.
- 1:12:20Muted. JB we no, we need to have this
- 1:12:23conversation right here, right now.
- 1:12:25It's not I. Don't.
- 1:12:26I don't know when it developed, I don't know how it started, and
- 1:12:30I notice it now every time I say it.
- 1:12:32I, I I don't. It's not serieses.
- 1:12:37I'm just going to, I'm going to write sentences later tonight
- 1:12:40over and over again. I don't know what to tell you.
- 1:12:44I, Jake gives me a hard time. Everybody gives me a hard time.
- 1:12:47I, I don't know why I say it. I think we move on.
- 1:12:52He mutes himself. Drinks his pee his.
- 1:12:57Creamy pee. That's so weird.
- 1:13:03All right, hand up. I I'm sorry, I interrupted.
- 1:13:05Made it way. Weirder than it needed to be,
- 1:13:07too. No, no, no, I'm not hand.
- 1:13:09I'm not hand up in my comment. I'm hand I'm hand up in because
- 1:13:12I realized I I cut you off, but I just had to we we had to
- 1:13:15address that. I'm delirious.
- 1:13:17I have no idea. We were talking about the
- 1:13:19Dodgers, the I mentioned Kiki, and then you were going to maybe
- 1:13:23give another example. I don't know.
- 1:13:25I think you got to go to like the like the you got to go to
- 1:13:29like a tough stretch. Like the 40s.
- 1:13:33I'm just kidding. Oh, not a tough stretch, but it
- 1:13:36actually might be from my, I mean, to JB's point, you could
- 1:13:41come up with, I'm sure a dozen heart answers.
- 1:13:44But if you wanted to go for like a more logistical slash team
- 1:13:49need kind of thing, you may have to go obviously a little further
- 1:13:52back given their success over the last however many years.
- 1:13:55But any who's good stuff? Any final thoughts from the boys
- 1:14:04before we get out of here? Good stuff.
- 1:14:13You just call him P boy, Yes. Can we not make that a thing?
- 1:14:19Is that his? Show the camera the color of
- 1:14:22your of your cream soda, everybody.
- 1:14:25Knows what cream soda looks like, dude.
- 1:14:28Also, do you know if that is you're extremely dehydrated and
- 1:14:32you need to go to the doctor all?
- 1:14:34Right. That's beyond dehydrated.
- 1:14:35That's, that's sickness. That's we're talking like kidney
- 1:14:41failure at that point. I don't.
- 1:14:44I don't think I like cream soda. I never, I don't think I've ever
- 1:14:47tried it. I've never understood the hype.
- 1:14:54This guy's what flavour was it? It's cream vanilla.
- 1:14:57What do you mean vanilla? Flavour.
- 1:14:59It's cream soda all. Cream soda is the same flavour.
- 1:15:03I I guess. I would think, I don't think
- 1:15:06there's somebody out there going no.
- 1:15:08I thought there was like cherry cream sodas and like.
- 1:15:12I mean, I imagine it would just be a cherry soda then.
- 1:15:16Let's get to the bottom of it. That's that's literally what I
- 1:15:18just said. Let's see, let's get to the
- 1:15:19bottom of this cherry. Cream sodas only have one
- 1:15:24flavor, Cherry. That's the flavor.
- 1:15:27Cherry cream soda is a sweet, fizzy beverage combining cherry
- 1:15:31flavor of vanilla forward cream soda, offering often featuring
- 1:15:35notes of cherry juice, syrup, or maraschino cherries.
- 1:15:40What other form? What other?
- 1:15:42What other flavor? Yeah.
- 1:15:47I'm seeing that in in the US and then slash general that it's
- 1:15:55it's vanilla. General that it's vanilla?
- 1:15:57No General that it's vanilla. I was just leaving it there.
- 1:16:01Give him the respect he's due. It's general, whatever, he said.
- 1:16:06There's red, pink, I don't know. Blue cream soda, Yeah.
- 1:16:12I told you there's a bunch of stuff, man.
- 1:16:14Red raspberries Australia these are.
- 1:16:16Told you these are told these. Are these aren't real?
- 1:16:21Also, I I've about our saluting, I've I've discovered something
- 1:16:26new me too that I think we should do is when people say
- 1:16:34generally it's General Lee and then whatever they say, you get
- 1:16:42it. So like whatever they say is the
- 1:16:44last name. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:16:46I like that. I also discovered when I was
- 1:16:50sending you guys the GIF of that.
- 1:16:53Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:16:56I also discovered when I was sending you guys the GIF of
- 1:16:59that, that they do it also with Major.
- 1:17:02Oh yeah, all the. Like a major disappointment,
- 1:17:04they say. Major disappointment.
- 1:17:05Oh yeah. I didn't realize that.
- 1:17:09We don't drop any other ones, though.
- 1:17:10We don't. How often does Corporal
- 1:17:13Lieutenant come in? Of course, you know what I mean.
- 1:17:15Colonel. Yeah.
- 1:17:17Yeah. Colonel stuck in my teeth.
- 1:17:21I think that's literally one of the quotes.
- 1:17:23I'm all done. There you go.
- 1:17:25I'll go chasing curveballs. Time for bed.
- 1:17:34Reminder, there will be no Sunday clubhouse this weekend.
- 1:17:38It's Mother's Day. Go.
- 1:17:39Happy Mother's Day. Go go spend time with your mom's
- 1:17:47and we'll see you guys next episode next Wednesday or I
- 1:17:52guess, I guess Thursday morning technically, but anyway, we'll
- 1:17:57see you then. P Boy.
- 1:18:03Go baseball. No, that's not right.
- 1:18:09That's I can't. I can't say that I I'm not as
- 1:18:12mean as Nate. I can't call him P Boy.
- 1:18:14That's terrible, that's terrible.
- 1:18:19He'll be JB in the corner. I'm not calling him P boy.
- 1:18:22Anyway, we love you all. And as always, looking forward
- 1:18:24to talking more baseballs. Goodnight, Nate.
- 1:18:37Get this guy out of here. I need to have like a a a band
- 1:18:42sound. Can't find one anyway.
- 1:18:58Everybody already turned this one on.
- 1:19:03Until next time, I think Nate's actually asleep.
- 1:19:12Might be. You awake, buddy?
- 1:19:20Oh yeah, I'm thriving. Hey, buddy.
- 1:19:26Oh, wrong way. You're you're going the wrong
- 1:19:33way. Honestly, that reminded me that
- 1:19:36reminded the way your head was going based on where the the the
- 1:19:40poke was coming from. It reminded me of the JFK
- 1:19:43conspiracy. So if you go back and you look
- 1:19:47at the film of the JFK assassination, if he got shot
- 1:19:53from the school book building that they're that they claim he
- 1:19:56got shot from, if he got shot from behind and the right, we've
- 1:20:04talked about this, If he got shot from back here, which way
- 1:20:08would his head go if he got now, now, now map this out.
- 1:20:13If he got shot from the back right, which way is his head
- 1:20:16going? Front left.
- 1:20:18Why did it go back left? Go back and watch the film.
- 1:20:24Go watch the Zapruder film. Why does his head go back left?
- 1:20:31I'll leave you all with that. Until next time, stay filthy.
