Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Emergency ITB: Jalen Hurts Out Sunday Vs. Panthers With Blood Clot; Plan Going Forward?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everybody. Welcome to an emergency edition of Inside the Birds. Man,
- 0:13Speaker 1: I think this is our second emergency ITV already in
- 0:16Speaker 1: five weeks, so you know a lot is going on
- 0:19Speaker 1: with the team. And there is an emergency situation. The quarterback,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, will not play Sunday against the Panthers. He
- 0:27Speaker 1: was determined to have what's called a superficial blood clot
- 0:31Speaker 1: in his calf. Adam, we have discussed the fact that
- 0:33Speaker 1: he landed on the injury report late last week with
- 0:36Speaker 1: the calf. We talked about when he played in the game,
- 0:39Speaker 1: he didn't run at all. And maybe some things are
- 0:41Speaker 1: now starting to come together before we talk about it,
- 0:44Speaker 1: because this is different than some like, say, a pulmonary embolism.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I do want to read the statement from the Eagles
- 0:50Speaker 1: just so that everybody has an idea of the timeline
- 0:53Speaker 1: and the injury itself. OK, yeah. So this came from
- 0:56Speaker 1: the Eagles statement directly. On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited
- 1:01Speaker 1: the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf.
- 1:05Speaker 1: He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first
- 1:11Speaker 1: treatment session for the calf injury following the game after
- 1:14Speaker 1: having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to
- 1:23Speaker 1: the practice report. Out in abundance of caution, An ultrasound
- 1:27Speaker 1: was performed Saturday following the team's flight to London and walkthrough.
- 1:31Speaker 1: The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff
- 1:35Speaker 1: and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that
- 1:38Speaker 1: activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the
- 1:47Speaker 1: game and a return flight to Philadelphia Saturday. Jalen played
- 1:50Speaker 1: without limitation in the game Sunday, received treatment on Monday
- 1:53Speaker 1: and Tuesday, and practiced in full on Wednesday, as reflected
- 1:57Speaker 1: in the practice report. Throughout our time in London and
- 2:00Speaker 1: this week, we have remained in communication with the league
- 2:02Speaker 1: office regarding the matter. On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound
- 2:06Speaker 1: revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be
- 2:09Speaker 1: out for Sunday's game versus the Panthers as we determine
- 2:12Speaker 1: the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are
- 2:17Speaker 1: our highest priority. So that is the situation. We can
- 2:21Speaker 1: get into that in a second. Tanner McKee is going
- 2:24Speaker 1: to be the starting quarterback. Cole Payton right now is
- 2:29Speaker 1: the number two, the backup, but you and I have
- 2:31Speaker 1: some doubts that by the time they line up Sunday
- 2:33Speaker 1: that that is going to be the case. Either way, Adam,
- 2:36Speaker 1: in a season with so many injuries, this is just
- 2:39Speaker 1: the last bit of bad news the Eagles could afford
- 2:43Speaker 1: with their season kind of hanging here.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, if they don't get Andy Dalton back, I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 2: it's going to be tough. They got to get someone
- 2:50Speaker 2: who knows the system. Sure. The verbiage, the West Coast system,
- 2:53Speaker 2: because you really don't want Cole Payton to be the
- 2:56Speaker 2: number two quarterback if you could help it. And here's
- 2:59Speaker 2: the problem. This is Thursday. So if it's not Dalton
- 3:04Speaker 2: by Friday, like who could you possibly get in an
- 3:07Speaker 2: emergency situation? I mean, Josh McCown's long since retired. He's coaching.
- 3:11Speaker 2: He can't do that.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to think like these West Coast, like is
- 3:14Speaker 1: Nick Mullins out there or is he still with somebody?
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't even know.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I haven't heard his name in a while. It's a
- 3:18Speaker 2: good question, but they would have to get someone from
- 3:21Speaker 2: that system. So it's, it's, it's tough. I had been
- 3:25Speaker 2: on blood thinners. I don't know if I ever told
- 3:27Speaker 2: you some years ago. It wasn't for, it wasn't quite
- 3:31Speaker 2: like Jalen's dealing with, but I do remember distinctly. I
- 3:34Speaker 2: could not bleed. So they, I was for sticking and
- 3:36Speaker 2: what I could do. I couldn't play tennis. It's like
- 3:39Speaker 2: five or six years ago. I couldn't play tennis. And
- 3:42Speaker 2: the clot had to clear. I was restricted from doing
- 3:44Speaker 2: certain activities. So he won't be able to play until
- 3:46Speaker 2: it totally clears. And the key part was the last
- 3:50Speaker 2: paragraph of the statement. In that graph, the blood clot moved.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So that's the thing that you get concerned about. It's superficial,
- 3:59Speaker 2: but it moved. Yep. That's scary, man. Look, we're not
- 4:04Speaker 2: going to question the doctors. They treated him. They thought
- 4:07Speaker 2: he was okay to do it. But unfortunately, after that,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it moved. Mm-hmm. And that's scary. So he's week to week.
- 4:13Speaker 2: We'll see when he gets cleared to play. But until then,
- 4:16Speaker 2: it's Tanner McKee. And wow, this is not the way
- 4:20Speaker 2: Tanner McKee wanted to start, but it is what it is.
- 4:22Speaker 2: That's where they're at.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And we'll throw on top of that. I mean, we
- 4:25Speaker 1: will go, we've gone through the injury report already and
- 4:28Speaker 1: we'll do it again on, in Friday's pregame show. Well,
- 4:30Speaker 1: when we record Friday, but you know, there's a real
- 4:33Speaker 1: likelihood that there will not be a Saquon Barkley. There
- 4:36Speaker 1: will not be a Devante Smith. We'll have to see,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but I mean, this is, we already know the offensive
- 4:41Speaker 1: line is banged up through Kendall has been banged up.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean, This is about as makeshift as makeshift can
- 4:46Speaker 1: get for the Eagles. The line, we talked about how
- 4:49Speaker 1: the Eagles were actually favored at one point by, I think,
- 4:52Speaker 1: point and a half. That went down even before the
- 4:54Speaker 1: Hurts injury, and now it's now tilted toward the Panthers.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I thought I last saw by three or three and
- 5:00Speaker 1: a half. So, clearly.
- 5:02Speaker 2: When I woke up on Thursday morning, the Panthers were
- 5:04Speaker 2: a one and a half point favorite. So, yeah, I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 2: there's no doubt. And, see, that's the thing with this.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's kind of like, which tenor key are you getting?
- 5:14Speaker 2: The guy who is super aggressive. Prior to the Washington game,
- 5:18Speaker 2: it really started downhill for him in Week 18 at
- 5:21Speaker 2: home against the Commandos. And I remember we were doing
- 5:24Speaker 2: Inside the Tape. We were watching with Cosell. And Greg said,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I guarantee you that some of these plays that he
- 5:29Speaker 2: didn't make, he's going to keep them up at night.
- 5:31Speaker 2: There's some layup throws he didn't make. That was on
- 5:34Speaker 2: the old system. That was on a Syriani system, non-West Coast.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Really starting in OTAs, I was like, wow, he's not
- 5:41Speaker 2: really driving the football. What is going on with him?
- 5:43Speaker 2: He's overthinking?
- 5:44Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And this is what happens when quarterbacks overthink. It makes
- 5:49Speaker 2: someone who's got a strong arm, who possesses a strong arm,
- 5:54Speaker 2: makes it look weaker when he's really not. But he's
- 5:56Speaker 2: thinking and he's not driving the football. His footwork is
- 5:58Speaker 2: all messed up. I saw this repeatedly in training camp.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Then in New England, I remember one of the practices,
- 6:04Speaker 2: he threw the ball really well. I'm like, where the
- 6:05Speaker 2: hell has that been for the last couple months?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 2: But then the last preseason game, thumbs down. Yeah. So
- 6:11Speaker 2: that's the problem with this. You just don't know what
- 6:13Speaker 2: you're getting.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And even if you have a much more improved version,
- 6:17Speaker 1: because it's been a few weeks, I mean... what to
- 6:20Speaker 1: expect if he has, if his number one running back
- 6:23Speaker 1: is some kind of combination of Damian Pierce and Carson Steele.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And the two guys are blocking in front of them
- 6:28Speaker 1: or continue to be majors or Lampkin or even Dickerson
- 6:32Speaker 1: gets back, but he's not very healthy. I mean, and
- 6:34Speaker 1: you can't get a run game. And then the best
- 6:36Speaker 1: guy you got to throw to might be at this point, Wicks,
- 6:39Speaker 1: who's not bad, but I mean, you get what I'm pointing.
- 6:41Speaker 1: No Devante Smith, especially when you have a backup quarterback
- 6:44Speaker 1: is really tough. So yeah, I would even say even
- 6:47Speaker 1: if he felt better and look, it may be a,
- 6:49Speaker 1: just a tough sledding for the Eagles offense overall, no
- 6:52Speaker 1: matter what, but we'll see. There's a lot at stake.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing you just hit on was
- 6:57Speaker 1: the fact that yes, they are without him, Jalen hurts
- 7:01Speaker 1: on Sunday, but you know, they have to determine a
- 7:04Speaker 1: course of action here and this could be extend longer
- 7:08Speaker 1: than Sunday.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah. I was down. I couldn't, God, I'd have
- 7:14Speaker 2: to look this up. I remember being on blood thinners
- 7:16Speaker 2: to clear the clot. Yeah. And it's just, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: other than what the, I had to do what the
- 7:20Speaker 2: doctors told me to do, what I could do exercise wise. But,
- 7:25Speaker 2: and I just remember the saying, you can't do it.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You can't do the, like they list the things you
- 7:28Speaker 2: can't do. But one of them was, cause if you
- 7:31Speaker 2: really don't want to bleed, there's a whole, there's a
- 7:32Speaker 2: whole concern. If you bleed, you'd be going to the
- 7:34Speaker 2: emergency room. I just remember them scaring me. I was like,
- 7:37Speaker 2: it was just, this thing came out of the blue
- 7:38Speaker 2: that I had. Um, but, uh, Yeah. So he's week
- 7:43Speaker 2: to week and we wish him well.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It's scary, man. It's it's scary. Yeah. And you saw,
- 7:49Speaker 2: but ironically, Taylor Moten, the right tackle of the Panthers
- 7:54Speaker 2: had a blood clot and his was, you know, his internal.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It was different. And he was out months, not weeks.

- 10:17Speaker 1: I think the big difference here, and we're recording this
- 10:20Speaker 1: literally a few minutes after, so it's not like we've
- 10:22Speaker 1: had a chance to talk with doctors that we know
- 10:25Speaker 1: or personal people that we know. But I do believe
- 10:27Speaker 1: the difference between what Hertz has being a superficial blood
- 10:30Speaker 1: clot and what Moten or others have had, like Chris
- 10:33Speaker 1: Olave in his chest, is that those were pulmonary embolisms,
- 10:36Speaker 1: which are far more severe.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Those are scary, by the way.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Very scary. In fact, you may remember this. I was
- 10:43Speaker 1: misdiagnosed with a pulmonary embolism in my lungs two labor
- 10:47Speaker 1: days ago. And I was in the hospital. And man,
- 10:50Speaker 1: was I getting like emergency medical treatment, which wound up
- 10:53Speaker 1: becoming unfortunate when they realized they misdiagnosed me. I just
- 10:57Speaker 1: had something else going on that was like very minor.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But the point is, yes, the doctors I had like.
- 11:03Speaker 1: surgeon upon surgeon like i had a blood doctor i
- 11:06Speaker 1: had a boat there's a doctor or this doctor that
- 11:09Speaker 1: come and all talk to me and i was getting
- 11:11Speaker 1: a little bit nervous there so those are more severe
- 11:14Speaker 1: in fact i'm not even sure if you have to
- 11:16Speaker 1: be on blood thinners for the superficial one it may
- 11:18Speaker 1: be anti-inflammatories but the bottom line is here's the problem
- 11:22Speaker 1: it moved and remember i was gonna say the bottom
- 11:25Speaker 1: line is the movement is the scary part yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 2: And you're right, they're not all the same and it
- 11:30Speaker 2: depends on the location, but it started in this calf. Yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 2: I'm not a doctor, but I just know I had
- 11:36Speaker 2: to take them one time in my life and it
- 11:37Speaker 2: was scary as hell.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Because something that happened to me came out of the blue.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, the doctor's sitting you down in the office.
- 11:44Speaker 2: He goes, okay, here's what you're dealing with. Here's what
- 11:47Speaker 2: you have to do. He asks you about exercise. He goes,
- 11:50Speaker 2: you won't be able to do that for a while.
- 11:51Speaker 2: There's certain things you don't want to bleed. And this
- 11:54Speaker 2: is like six years ago, so I'm trying to remember
- 11:56Speaker 2: what they told me. but it's scary. So, um, which
- 12:00Speaker 2: Jalen well, and then it was just getting back to football.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So look, the thing is with Smith and Barkley, we're
- 12:08Speaker 2: not expecting them to play. Let's see what happens. You
- 12:10Speaker 2: never know, man. I, this business is funny how guys
- 12:14Speaker 2: respond to treatment, but the problem with, as we've detailed
- 12:17Speaker 2: Smith has had this injury for 10 weeks. Yeah. It's
- 12:20Speaker 2: early August, man. I mean, and, and, uh, Barkley's had
- 12:24Speaker 2: hamstring problems in his career. This is not good. I mean,
- 12:28Speaker 2: with Bixby and his surgery.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Shipley's out.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Shipley, I expect that. That's going to be a while.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It's going to be a while. You're not going to
- 12:36Speaker 2: see him for a while. And they're in a tough way.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And as we talked about yesterday. Actually, we had a
- 12:42Speaker 2: really fun show this morning, if you haven't heard it yet.
- 12:45Speaker 2: We detailed big time the Panthers' injuries. We went over
- 12:48Speaker 2: a lot of stuff with the Panthers. I would say
- 12:51Speaker 2: it's more than I can remember talking about an opponent's injuries.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Because it deserved it. Before the Hurts situation, I said
- 13:00Speaker 2: they had it worse than the Panthers. Maybe it was
- 13:03Speaker 2: worse than the Eagles. Oh boy. But right now, the
- 13:07Speaker 2: Eagles are in a situation where they've got to take
- 13:10Speaker 2: advantage of everything they have. We mentioned Carson Steele. Okay.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Got one big time season of ball state at over 1,500 yards.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Not as successful at UCLA. Wasn't drafted for a reason. Okay,
- 13:21Speaker 2: I get that. But If you saw him in the preseason,
- 13:24Speaker 2: you probably said, who is this guy? Like he was
- 13:28Speaker 2: jumping over, like he was high-stepping it, jumping over guys.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Like he looked like an NFL player. We know it's football.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I know it's a preseason. And the opponent was not
- 13:36Speaker 2: playing their starter, but he still did a good job.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So the coaches have to do a better job in-game.
- 13:42Speaker 2: This is where Sirianni's got to say, hey, I know
- 13:45Speaker 2: Manny might be in the booth, but say, hey, Sean,
- 13:47Speaker 2: we need to look at Carson Steele here. Tell Jamal Singleton, hey,
- 13:50Speaker 2: we need to get something going here. We need some help.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That's your job, especially when you're not calling plays and
- 13:55Speaker 2: you don't have a SOA, senior offensive assistant. Be helpful.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Remind these guys we have other players who can do it. Right.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You know, this will be a big challenge for the
- 14:07Speaker 1: entire offensive staff because ordinarily we would say, listen. You
- 14:10Speaker 1: got to back up in, even if you like to
- 14:12Speaker 1: back up, you got to protect them in this situation.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And you do that usually by trying to run the
- 14:17Speaker 1: ball more, get better, more manageable down and distance scenarios,
- 14:22Speaker 1: take fewer risks. But unfortunately, the Eagles, I mean, they've
- 14:25Speaker 1: been trying to run the ball better, even with Jalen
- 14:27Speaker 1: Hurts as their quarterback, and have been unable to do that. Now,
- 14:30Speaker 1: they have to still try. They have to come up
- 14:33Speaker 1: with a way to give themselves more a far more
- 14:36Speaker 1: respectable run game than they showed against the Jaguars. I'm
- 14:39Speaker 1: not expecting it to be dynamic and explosive like it was.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I mean, we already, the ship has been sailing on that,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but you cannot average 1.3 yards for carry and expect
- 14:49Speaker 1: that you are protecting Tanner McKee. Now, maybe that means
- 14:52Speaker 1: you come out peppering the field really easy, you know,
- 14:55Speaker 1: with quick passes to start. I mean, you do have
- 14:57Speaker 1: Makai Lemon. You do have Wicks.
- 14:59Speaker 2: You do have Cooper.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We've talked about this, right?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Real quick, real quick, just on that. The quick game,
- 15:03Speaker 2: this is what Ron Jarowski told me. Either A, when
- 15:07Speaker 2: you have a struggling quarterback, you play the quick game,
- 15:09Speaker 2: build his confidence, get him in a rhythm, get him accurate.
- 15:11Speaker 2: You do the same thing with a struggling quarterback. Josh
- 15:14Speaker 2: said he could not tell you how many times when
- 15:16Speaker 2: he was, you know, we had a couple of rough games.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Whatever the play caller was, was like, this ball's getting
- 15:20Speaker 2: out of his hands. We're not going to let him think.
- 15:22Speaker 2: We want him to feel good about it. So on
- 15:24Speaker 2: your point that you just made, that's exactly what they
- 15:27Speaker 2: should do. Quick game. On your point about Makai Lemon,
- 15:31Speaker 2: that's his deal. Short area. He's not an outside receiver.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Can't do it. not at this level.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Right. Okay.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Get it out of his hands. He's super strong, tough.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Cooper got her for goodness sake. Okay. Got her. And
- 15:46Speaker 2: whenever Ertz is in, by the way, he's out of elevation.
- 15:48Speaker 2: So we'll see if they sign him to the practice squad.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:50Speaker 2: And we'll see about the other two tight ends who
- 15:52Speaker 2: are returning from injury in terms of practice. But yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 2: you make a good point. I just wanted to, before
- 15:57Speaker 2: I forget, put that in there because that's how you build,
- 16:00Speaker 2: that's how you build confidence. And boy, McKee's confidence looks,
- 16:03Speaker 2: any of us who wants to train a kid looks
- 16:05Speaker 2: His body language is not great. He looked lost sometimes.
- 16:08Speaker 2: He's just not the gunslinger. He just did not look
- 16:10Speaker 2: like the gunslinger that he once was. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Hey, you know what? Fred Johnson, it helps him now.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Stick him out there as an extra offensive tackle. Get
- 16:18Speaker 1: bigger on the O-line. Put him next to Markel Bell,
- 16:20Speaker 1: except this time at tackle instead of guard, and let
- 16:23Speaker 1: him work his thing and try to run to the right.
- 16:25Speaker 1: There's got to be– you just can't line up and
- 16:27Speaker 1: play your game and say, hey– we gave it our best.
- 16:30Speaker 1: We tried to play our game. We doubled down on
- 16:32Speaker 1: the things that we believe in. No, you can't double
- 16:35Speaker 1: down when you have half the roster.
- 16:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You've got to be creative. You've got to figure things out.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And of course, Adam, the defense, this is even more
- 16:42Speaker 1: urgent on them to really hold it together from start
- 16:44Speaker 1: to finish, not have lapses, not have implosions, not allow
- 16:47Speaker 1: big plays because unfortunately it's not fair, but it falls
- 16:50Speaker 1: on them to keep this thing within striking distance for
- 16:54Speaker 1: the Eagles as they try to figure it out offensively.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I would say, um, I would say in the
- 17:00Speaker 2: past game how it might be different. They've been inconsistent
- 17:04Speaker 2: with play action. I know they did a little bit
- 17:06Speaker 2: more last week, but McKee's a dropback quarterback. There was
- 17:11Speaker 2: a mobility that has improved since he was a rookie.
- 17:13Speaker 2: He was an absolute statue. This guy can't play in
- 17:16Speaker 2: the league, can't move. He worked on it clearly. He
- 17:18Speaker 2: made progress in OTAs in his second year. But he's
- 17:23Speaker 2: not a runner. He's not a scrambler. He could roll
- 17:26Speaker 2: out certain things on the move he can do. But
- 17:29Speaker 2: I would like to see him under center play action. Yep.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I want to see it. Be consistent with it. It's
- 17:35Speaker 2: West Coast. I don't know why we're not seeing more
- 17:37Speaker 2: of this. I'm not saying 50%. Come on. I'm not
- 17:39Speaker 2: saying that. But they should be a consistent play action team.
- 17:43Speaker 2: And they can do it with McKee. He's a dropback quarterback.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Because people want to know what's the difference. Well, they're
- 17:49Speaker 2: trying to have Jalen do some of it. As he
- 17:52Speaker 2: would get more comfortable. Unfortunately, he's going to be sidelined
- 17:54Speaker 2: a bit. But McKee can do it. He can do both.
- 17:58Speaker 2: shotgun and under center, but they didn't really do much
- 18:02Speaker 2: under center last year. So they could do that with them.
- 18:06Speaker 2: It would be something else just to see him turn
- 18:09Speaker 2: it loose. Right. Get his confidence back. And he's worked
- 18:13Speaker 2: with Cooper plenty because they're backups. So it's not like
- 18:15Speaker 2: he doesn't, he doesn't know Darius Cooper. Right. And Wicks,
- 18:19Speaker 2: you know, I don't know how much work he's had
- 18:20Speaker 2: with him being that Wicks is a starter, but he he's,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I'm very curious, and they're facing a defense that's not
- 18:30Speaker 2: very good. That's without both starting corners. I'm really curious,
- 18:34Speaker 2: and the weather's going to be sublime. It's going to
- 18:36Speaker 2: be beautiful. Nice fall day. Don't have to worry about
- 18:39Speaker 2: weather in this game. Right.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Nice and chilly. I like it.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I know. It's finally a fall day.
- 18:43Speaker 2: None of this 80-degree stuff. But I'm very interested to
- 18:46Speaker 2: see if he can turn it loose because he hadn't
- 18:49Speaker 2: done it in a while, folks. We rarely saw it.
- 18:52Speaker 2: He looked like he lost his confidence. So don't know
- 18:54Speaker 2: what the– I know what they could try with him
- 18:56Speaker 2: to move this along here, but I don't know what
- 18:58Speaker 2: to expect from him because he has not shown it.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 19:58Speaker 1: and up. Everything in life comes down to choice, doesn't it?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Whether it's choosing the team you root for, who you
- 20:04Speaker 1: listen to, or how you power your home, you deserve
- 20:07Speaker 1: the freedom to choose your own adventure, and that goes
- 20:10Speaker 1: for your power bill too. Right now across the U.S.,
- 20:13Speaker 1: Americans have the potential to harness limitless, clean, affordable energy.
- 20:17Speaker 1: We could be powering our hospitals, our schools, our farms,
- 20:20Speaker 1: and so much more. In some places, this abundant local
- 20:24Speaker 1: power is already helping lower utility bills and creating jobs.
- 20:28Speaker 1: But depending on where you live, you may not have
- 20:31Speaker 1: the option to choose Limitless Energy for your household. That
- 20:34Speaker 1: has to change. We should all get to choose the
- 20:37Speaker 1: energy we pay for. Cheaper, cleaner, Limitless Energy is out there.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Let's find more ways to use it. Head over to EnergyLimitless.com
- 20:46Speaker 1: to learn more about your energy options. Okay, in summary,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Hertz is out for Sunday. Could be longer. That's a
- 20:53Speaker 1: situation we have to monitor. It's incumbent upon the Eagles
- 20:56Speaker 1: to A, bring in a backup quarterback, not named Cole Payton.
- 21:00Speaker 1: They absolutely need, whether it's Dalton or somebody who knows
- 21:03Speaker 1: the system, you cannot go into this game with Cole
- 21:05Speaker 1: Payton as your backup. C, it's up to the coaching
- 21:08Speaker 1: staff to really figure out a game plan and to
- 21:10Speaker 1: do this smartly and not just do what you always
- 21:13Speaker 1: do and expect things to change. And D, oh my gosh,
- 21:16Speaker 1: we're only six weeks in and Dak Prescott right now
- 21:20Speaker 1: is the only NFC East quarterback who's going to have
- 21:22Speaker 1: started every single game for his team. after this Sunday,
- 21:25Speaker 1: which is unbelievable the way it happened.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It just goes to show you, if you don't have
- 21:32Speaker 2: good depth, you can't compete. The Eagles, through Sirianni's first
- 21:37Speaker 2: five years, it's mostly incredible when it comes to injuries.
- 21:41Speaker 2: My God, it's like the injury guys say, uh-uh, we're
- 21:43Speaker 2: going to get you.
- 21:44Speaker 1: This is insane. Feels like a comeuppance, doesn't it? An
- 21:48Speaker 1: undeserved one. It's not like the Eagles did anything wrong.
- 21:50Speaker 2: They've been... Arch DeNoda coming from University of Pennsylvania and
- 21:55Speaker 2: bringing back Tom Hunkley and really straighten this injury thing out,
- 21:59Speaker 2: how he did a really good job. And you have
- 22:01Speaker 2: to give Julian Lurie credit. He's very involved with the
- 22:04Speaker 2: cash spend that we've outlined for three years. And obviously Jeffrey,
- 22:08Speaker 2: to be willing to spend more on health and their well-being, obviously,
- 22:12Speaker 2: but rehabs and all that. But man, I don't know.
- 22:15Speaker 2: This has been very strange.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Very strange and a big challenge ahead for the Eagles.
- 22:20Speaker 1: All right, we will have a lot more on this
- 22:21Speaker 1: game covered Friday, of course, going into the weekend. Saturday,
- 22:25Speaker 1: we'll have the Inside the Birds pregame show out. So
- 22:28Speaker 1: we'll be really interested to hear Greg Cosell's take on
- 22:31Speaker 1: what the Eagles can do, what he thinks of the
- 22:34Speaker 1: Panthers' defense, and where they might be vulnerable. Birds Weekly
- 22:38Speaker 1: fellows will have their preview as well, Inside the Data,
- 22:40Speaker 1: all the Checo Dailies, and all the great coverage that
- 22:43Speaker 1: we have here on Inside the Birds. That's going to
- 22:45Speaker 1: do it for this emergency podcast. And for Adam Kaplan,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher. You have been watching Inside the Birds.
- 22:52Speaker 1: As we always say, thanks for flying with us on
- 22:55Speaker 1: Inside the Birds.
