Transcript
- 0:00All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode
- 0:03of the Take Two pod with Mom and Dad.
- 0:06I'm Dad. And I'm mom.
- 0:09The kids are down while they're in bed at least.
- 0:12Little man still fussing around but.
- 0:14Yeah, you might hear our toddler.
- 0:16He likes to lay in bed and talk and sing to himself, sometimes
- 0:20for two hours before he actually.
- 0:22Falls asleep. He needs to stop napping at
- 0:24daycare. It's killing this.
- 0:26I I agree. But what do you do right?
- 0:28He's actually been awesome lately.
- 0:31Like we said in the last episode, he's been doing a lot
- 0:33better with his potty training. Five days in a row.
- 0:35Of pooping, Amazing, amazing. And his attitude.
- 0:39Lily is so good. He's like, so joyful.
- 0:42I took him for a haircut and he's looking real sharp.
- 0:45Yeah, he looks really nice. Our baby's actually the bigger
- 0:48issue at the moment. Yeah, they are.
- 0:51This child does not like to eat. She doesn't want to eat
- 0:54anything. Well, maybe she's watching her
- 0:56figure. Well, we're we're.
- 0:57Working on solids, we're trying baby led weaning and we're
- 0:59trying purees. We're going to see what works,
- 1:02but I'll tell you what, she's not a big fan of either.
- 1:05But I mean, she could afford to lose some weight.
- 1:07I mean, let's be real. She got a lot of roles she got.
- 1:10More roles than a bakery. OK, little Popeye arms.
- 1:14Or something. So we're on episode 10 and we've
- 1:17decided to switch things up a little bit for episode 10.
- 1:21We're actually going to do a top ten list and we're going to call
- 1:25this segment or this format the Top 10 battle.
- 1:29And basically what we're going to do is we've decided to
- 1:33review. I love you, pumpkin.
- 1:36I love you, honey Bunny. Alright everybody be cool.
- 1:40This is a robbery. If any of you motherfuckers
- 1:43move, I'll execute every motherfucking last one of you.
- 1:52The movies of the Amazing Quentin Tarantino.
- 1:56That's right, Quentin Tarantino's top ten list.
- 1:59And yes, we've split Kill Bill one and two into two separate
- 2:02movies. Because they are.
- 2:04Because we believe they are. Even though he released them as
- 2:07one whole bloody affair recently, we still think they're
- 2:10two separate movies. Yeah, they have two different
- 2:13fields in my opinion. Yes, I agree.
- 2:16So what we're going to do in this format is we're going to
- 2:19spin the wheel literally, and we're going to, it's going to
- 2:23choose a movie from the movies at random, at random.
- 2:27We're going to talk about them and where they rank personally
- 2:30on our personal lists. If you don't agree with our
- 2:33personal lists, that's too fucking bad.
- 2:35This is our list, and then we're going to make a master list
- 2:39where we try to figure out, we try to compromise and see where
- 2:44our movies actually should. Land Yeah, we both have to agree
- 2:48how, how and where to rank each movie because we have some
- 2:51different opinions about Tarantino's movies.
- 2:53We do so am I getting a little heated?
- 2:55But that makes for good content, so agreed.
- 2:58Are you ready? I'm ready, Dad.
- 3:00OK, first movie. Ooh, Reservoir Dogs, his first
- 3:16movie is our first movie tonight.
- 3:18And in my opinion, his worst movie.
- 3:21This is number 10 on my list. Coming out with fire number. 10
- 3:27#10. Yo, you're trying to get.
- 3:30Killed. No, Listen, all of Tarantino's
- 3:32movies are good. This is just the worst of the
- 3:35good in my opinion. I've got it at #8.
- 3:39OK, it's pretty low on your. List too and I agree his worst
- 3:42movie Like out of his 10 movies his worst one is better than
- 3:45most directors best movies so. Yeah, him on a bad day is what
- 3:50most directors dream of being on a good day.
- 3:52OK, why are you putting it at #10 Explain yourself.
- 3:55So not to be sexist, but I do feel like this is a boy movie
- 4:01and I don't feel that way about all of this movies.
- 4:03OK, but for me it just didn't hit.
- 4:05I found it a little bit gross. All the talk about this, the the
- 4:10the gunshot in the stomach I thought was really nasty.
- 4:14The torture scene is really nasty.
- 4:17I do like the diner scene at the beginning with everybody's code
- 4:20names and I do believe that Steve Buscemi is an absolute
- 4:26jewel. But for for me, this movie just
- 4:30it's low budget and it feels low budget in my opinion.
- 4:34OK, so this movie Reservoir Dogs I, I'm, I agree it's it's
- 4:40probably not aged the best. It is low budget, but that's,
- 4:44you know, it was an independent film.
- 4:45It was at Cannes. This movie was like very well,
- 4:51critically acclaimed actually, because of how different it was.
- 4:55Um, but I wouldn't give it a 10. Like, I wouldn't put it on the
- 4:58bottom of the list. I'm shocked.
- 5:00I felt bad putting it at #8. You and I have very different
- 5:04opinions about. There's several Tarantino movies
- 5:06that we feel very. Differently, Reservoir Dogs has
- 5:08its has its charm. It has its issues.
- 5:10My biggest issue with it, honestly, is some of the lines,
- 5:14some of the dialogues seem forced.
- 5:16Tarantino was still really early in his game, so his dialogue
- 5:20game wasn't all polished yet. Like the opening scene with the
- 5:23breakfast. That scene, it's very clever,
- 5:26it's very well shot, the way it's spinning around the table
- 5:29and everything. But the dialogue, some of the
- 5:32some of the dialogue from Harvey Keitel especially, is really
- 5:36just forced. And that guy's a pretty good
- 5:39actor, But every time I see him overact and try to like, force
- 5:43things kind of takes me out of the movie.
- 5:45Yeah, I felt the dialogue was a little bit odd as well.
- 5:48You do definitely start to see sparks of Tarantino's genius in
- 5:52this movie, but I don't feel like it was a full roaring fire
- 5:56yet. No, it wasn't.
- 5:57This was just sparks for sure. But I don't I don't think it
- 6:00believe it belongs in 10. But hey, that's that's your
- 6:03opinion. So, so you put it at #7 or #8, I
- 6:06put it at #10. Can we compromise with putting
- 6:09it at #9 on the master list for now?
- 6:12We, we, we may, we may have to move.
- 6:14OK, I can live with that. Let's put it at #9.
- 6:16All right. All right, so the next movie on
- 6:19our list. You ready to move on, Mom?
- 6:21Yeah. OK, next movie on our list.
- 6:23Let's spin the wheel. Ooh, the wheel has stopped.
- 6:31What's your name? I see Stuntman Mike likes your
- 6:37name, you ask? Hey Warren, who is this guy and
- 6:47who the hell is stuntman Mike Death proof?
- 6:50Death proof. OK, I'll go first this.
- 6:54Time part of part of Grindhouse. So I put death proof at #9.
- 6:59I put death roof at #6. Whoa.
- 7:03Death proof. How are you doing?
- 7:04Death Proof has a very special place in my heart.
- 7:07OK. This is a girl movie.
- 7:10OK, I'm I'm gonna go first. Go ahead.
- 7:13We have to. You can't be starting everything
- 7:15by yourself. Death Proof is number 9.
- 7:18I've seen it maybe 3 times. It is a Robert Rodriguez
- 7:25complete like combination movie where he collaborated with him
- 7:29for Planet Terror. It looks like it's filmed in the
- 7:3470s, but it takes place in modern day because everybody's
- 7:37got flip phones and stuff like that.
- 7:40I like the concept of a serial killer stuntman who basically
- 7:46goes around and picks up women and then like drives around and
- 7:51tells them that this car's death proof unless you're in the
- 7:54drivers or if you're unless you're not in the driver seat.
- 7:57And he just kills them. And like, it's kind of cool, but
- 8:01I don't think it deserves to be an hour and 40 minute movie.
- 8:05It's just wild enough to work. So like dad said, it's a serial
- 8:09killer stuntman and it shows two different scenarios of two
- 8:13different nights where he comes across women who he then
- 8:16attempts to murder. OK, one of them is a successful
- 8:20murder and the second time he gets his ass handed to him by
- 8:22some bad ass women who are also stunt women.
- 8:27I think you put this at 6:00 because of the women, and you
- 8:30put Reservoir Dogs because there's no women.
- 8:33You put it at 10. I think there's some bias.
- 8:35Here, No, no, no, no. Some sexism going on.
- 8:38You'll you'll you'll eat those words when you see what I.
- 8:40Have OHS stop. What I have that higher
- 8:42high-ranking, but I discovered Death Proof actually have a
- 8:45really sweet story about how I discovered Tarantino in general.
- 8:49So when I was turning 18, I I gone home from school for the
- 8:56summer because my birthday is in June.
- 8:58And my older brother was like, I want to get you a birthday gift,
- 9:02which is really sweet. So a giant tiger had just opened
- 9:06up in Berry. So he takes me to the giant
- 9:09tiger and he said pick whatever you want as your birthday gift,
- 9:13whatever. And they had a Tarantino box set
- 9:17and it had every Tarantino movie except for the really new ones.
- 9:21So it had Pulp Fiction, it had Kill Bill One and two, it had
- 9:25Death Proof, it had Jackie Brown, and it had Reservoir
- 9:28Dogs, and it was like 3 or 4 discs.
- 9:34Yeah. Um, so I picked that and then I
- 9:37picked a tub of gummy octopuses. He bought it for me and I
- 9:43thought that was really sweet that he took me.
- 9:45He said, but by whatever you want.
- 9:46And then the first movie I watched, I went home.
- 9:49I put it in my little DVD player was death proof and I was A
- 9:52teenage girl and it was this badass girl movie and it hit so
- 9:56good. And ever since then I've just
- 9:59loved it. I loved the lap dance scene.
- 10:01I love the women with their legs hanging out the the windows of
- 10:05the car. I love the short shorts.
- 10:08It's summer, they're in bars it. Feels along with.
- 10:11It feels a little sweaty, It feels like there's rain.
- 10:14It doesn't belong at #6. It has such a specific vibe and
- 10:17it has a special place in my heart, which is why it's my
- 10:20number. Six OK, but there's several
- 10:21scenes that need to be cut out because they're just boring and
- 10:24dry. It takes about 40 minutes before
- 10:27the 1st kill happens. But that's the thing.
- 10:30It's not even a slow burn. It's.
- 10:31Just more for their ride with these girls.
- 10:33They're they're, they're going away for the weekend.
- 10:35They're gonna have a fun time. They're going to their friends
- 10:37lake house. They're just chilling at a bar.
- 10:40Yeah, it's trying to be a horror movie, but there's no horror
- 10:42about it. It's actually comical.
- 10:45It's not. Scary.
- 10:46Supposed to be campy. Yeah, it's too campy.
- 10:49It's. I also love Rosario Dawson.
- 10:51It's pure Robert Rodriguez influence which takes me away
- 10:54from Tarantino. So I have to go away.
- 10:56I, I can't, I can't be compromising with this one.
- 10:59I'm sorry. OK, but this is not going at #9.
- 11:02I will not put it lower than #8I.
- 11:04Was going at 8 then. I'll put it at 8.
- 11:06It's going at 8:00. If you're going to move
- 11:08Reservoir Dogs to 9, this is going to aid.
- 11:10But I I I do believe that it deserves a higher ranking.
- 11:16Yeah, you have a sentimental connection with this movie,
- 11:21unfortunately. Yeah, which is why I'm agreeing
- 11:23to put it lower on on the master list, but on my personal.
- 11:26List. It's it's 6.
- 11:28I felt bad putting it that low because I have such a love for
- 11:31it. All right.
- 11:32OK. You ready for the next one?
- 11:34Let's do it. All he wanted.
- 11:47Was a blanket. You'd be surprised what a man
- 11:52backed cold would do for Blank. You won't know what your boy.
- 11:59Did the Hateful 8? The hateful 8 ohm boy.
- 12:04Where do you have this ranked at?
- 12:07I have Hateful 8 at #5. I have Hateful 8 at #4.
- 12:11Ohe close close. Wow 4.
- 12:14I adore this movie. I really like this movie.
- 12:17It's OK. So I think this movie is super
- 12:20underrated. Well, you actually didn't like
- 12:23it and I suggested we watch it again and it happened to be a
- 12:27very snowy wintery night when we watched it and now dad, it's
- 12:31very cute. Dad loves watching it when it's
- 12:34very snowy outside because it it gives you the vibes.
- 12:37The cosy movie and when we rewatched it you were like, I
- 12:40was wrong. That movie hits.
- 12:42We watched it in theatres when it came out, so this is one of
- 12:44the few Tarantino movies that we actually got to see in theatres
- 12:47together, and I wasn't a huge fan of it.
- 12:51The thing that really turned me off was the third act.
- 12:55And Tarantino does struggle sometimes with finishing off his
- 12:59movies. We're gonna talk about that in
- 13:01another movie where it's a big problem.
- 13:04I kind of got over it and you know which part I'm talking
- 13:07about when they reveal. Yeah, after the twist.
- 13:10Basically the twist happens. By the way, this is a whodunit,
- 13:13which is amazing. Really good act characters,
- 13:16really good acting dialogue. And it's amazing.
- 13:20All takes place in the cabin. It what I love about it is it
- 13:22feels like a play. Feels like a play.
- 13:24You could easily make this a stage play.
- 13:27Yeah, yeah. And it would work so well, Yeah.
- 13:29Cause the, the character development is amazing.
- 13:32There's lots of monologues, there's lots of talking right.
- 13:34But it builds the characters in such a unique and specific way.
- 13:38So, hatefully, as soon as the twist is revealed, spoiler alert
- 13:43that Channing Tatum is in the basement.
- 13:47He's in the basement. Right.
- 13:48Yeah, he's been in the basement the whole the whole God damn.
- 13:50Time Channing Tatum's in the basement and they kind of show
- 13:55what happens to the haberdashery before Samuel Jackson and Kurt
- 14:00Russell get there. I was kind of like, OK, and then
- 14:03there's this standoff that's kind of underwhelming little
- 14:07bit. And I think my I love Channing
- 14:10Tatum, but I think it was really miscast.
- 14:14I don't think it should have been him as the brother.
- 14:17It's underwhelming too because he pops out and spoiler alert,
- 14:20he gets his head blown off pretty much immediately.
- 14:22But I think he wasn't the right guy for that role.
- 14:25Yeah, he The thing is the sister that he's there to save is like
- 14:30a white trash dirtbag. And they needed a I'm sorry, but
- 14:33that's true. And they needed a white trash or
- 14:35Big Brother. And Channing Tatum is a little
- 14:37too clean cut and like, he doesn't work in that role.
- 14:40Yeah, he, he just, it didn't sit.
- 14:43It didn't sit right. Like it could have been anybody
- 14:46honestly. Channing Tatum was just miscast
- 14:48unfortunately. It wasn't an outstanding role.
- 14:50For him, he's awesome. He makes good movies.
- 14:53Step up was one of my favorite movies growing up.
- 14:57It coach Carter. He's in that, he's pretty good
- 14:59in that, but I'm sorry, he just something about it just seems
- 15:04out of place and maybe I'm a Channing Tatum hater.
- 15:07He was out of place in Gambit too, as gambit.
- 15:11People like, Oh my God, Gambit in the the third Deadpool movie,
- 15:15Deadpool and Wolverine, he was Gambit and I'm like, ohf, he
- 15:19doesn't look good on him. It just doesn't.
- 15:21I don't know. I think he he needs to be in
- 15:24specific roles. But yeah, I do feel that he may
- 15:26have been a little bit miscast. I do like that they went into
- 15:29the haberdashery and they they murdered everybody and they're
- 15:33hiding it and the old man sitting by the fire just going
- 15:36along with it doesn't care. So I do like that part of it
- 15:39because it does add that suspicion and.
- 15:42But. Like why is he helping?
- 15:44The third act is actually really good, but the Channing Tatum
- 15:48part, I don't know what it is. He was good in Blink twice.
- 15:51Remember that movie where they go on that rich?
- 15:54He's a rich guy and he invites them to their.
- 15:55Island because that seems believable for him.
- 15:58He he needs to play roles where it's believable exactly.
- 16:01And he wasn't believable as like an outlaw.
- 16:03Cowboy, Can you imagine if it was Christian Bale that came out
- 16:06of that basement? Oh my God, you just, you fixed
- 16:08it. You know what?
- 16:09I. Mean you just fixed it.
- 16:11If Christian or even Russell Crowe just dirtbag Russell Crowe
- 16:15like from. With a scraggly beard.
- 16:17Oh fuck yeah, that that would have worked better.
- 16:20I agree. But the the movie itself, really
- 16:23interesting. We start out on like in a
- 16:26Stagecoach, really snowy, really dangerous old Midwest.
- 16:32We get to the haberdashery. Everybody's freezing.
- 16:34Like you feel the wind and the cold, the doors blowing open.
- 16:37They always have to nail it shut.
- 16:39It feels so like it. It just feels like a vibe.
- 16:44Yeah. And it's so spooky.
- 16:45There's some guitar playing. They're eating like hot Stew.
- 16:48There's just, it's it's such a good movie.
- 16:51I really like it. So that's why I put it as my
- 16:53number 4. You put it as your number 5.
- 16:57What do we do here? And our master list, where
- 17:01should it go? Should be 4 or should it be 5,
- 17:02but obviously has to be one of those.
- 17:04Uh, I compromised with the well, I I would keep it at 5:00.
- 17:11I'll keep it at 5, OK? It's in the middle.
- 17:13I'm, I'm willing, I'm willing to put it to five.
- 17:15I don't want it any lower than that.
- 17:16So I'm actually, I'm, I'm glad and surprised.
- 17:19I didn't think hatefully it was going to be this high on your
- 17:21list. I thought it was going to be
- 17:23lower. I'm really interested to find
- 17:26out what your number 10 is. I have no idea.
- 17:28Alright, ready for the next one? Mom, let's do it, OK?
- 17:38Oh boy. I know he didn't qualify that
- 17:42shit. So you can just kiss my mother
- 17:45fucking ass black Mamba? Mama.
- 17:50I should have been motherfucking black mom.
- 17:52Weapon of choice. If you want to stick with your
- 17:54butcher knife, that's fine with me.
- 17:58Very funny bitch. Very funny.
- 18:03Kill Bill, Volume 1. Volume 1, OK.
- 18:09You go ahead. This is my #5.
- 18:13What? Kill Bill volume 1 is my number.
- 18:165. What about you?
- 18:19Wow, I've got it a #3. Wow.
- 18:24Kill Bill Volume 1 and I'll tell you why.
- 18:29So this movie, my brother came home one day.
- 18:33He's like, I rented Kill Bill Volume 1.
- 18:36I said, yo, I saw all the commercials, right?
- 18:40I think I was 12 or 13. So he brings it in the house.
- 18:44We put the DVD in and we watch it and I'm just like, my
- 18:50eyeballs are like popping out of my head because of.
- 18:53Because the violence. Cause the violence, the colours,
- 18:57the the, the spectacle, the like, it's campy Kung Fu vibes,
- 19:02but it's modern day. And I've seen all those old Kung
- 19:05Fu movies with Jackie Chan, all the old ones like the the
- 19:12Shaolin monks, Charlie Shaolin style.
- 19:15They're 36 chambers. I watched that.
- 19:18Sorry, we'll cut that out. I watched 36 chambers.
- 19:21I watched all the Jackie Chan ones, Drunken Master, the Bruce
- 19:26Lee movies, Game of Death, you know, Fist of Fury, all of those
- 19:30movies with the bad dubbing and the crazy music and the the
- 19:34quick zooms and this quick zoom outs.
- 19:37Like I'm watching this. And it was the addition where
- 19:40when the she fights the crazy 88 it goes black and white because
- 19:44they wouldn't allow it. It would have been X-rated.
- 19:46It was the R rated. Version.
- 19:48Is that why? Yeah, you didn't know that it
- 19:50was black and white because. I know it was black and white,
- 19:53but I thought that was just a directorial.
- 19:54Choice, the MPAA rating. They were like, we're not gonna
- 19:57let you release this in colour. You have to do something about
- 20:00this because there's so much blood.
- 20:02It honestly does help that it's in black and white because it
- 20:05before that it's starting a little.
- 20:06Disturbing it leaves. A little bit.
- 20:08It leaves something to the imagination, but this movie, it
- 20:11had the anime sequence. It's jaw dropped when I saw
- 20:16that. Cause when I.
- 20:17Seen somebody do this? This is Tarantino going here's
- 20:22my budget. I have all this money available
- 20:25to me now, right? They're letting me make whatever
- 20:28fucking movie I want to make. So he does it.
- 20:31He's like, I'm going to mix it with, it's like a western.
- 20:35I'm gonna make it like a Kung Fu movie, like it's like Kung Fu
- 20:40exploitation, like those kind of movies.
- 20:42Throw some anime in. There some anime in there, some
- 20:45blood, like whatever, you know, all the old homage things that
- 20:50are happening into this. Like you've got Sonny Chiba who
- 20:55makes the sword, the Hattori Hanzo.
- 20:58That is so like that whole sequence is.
- 21:01Amazing. And then you've got David
- 21:03Carradine from the show Kung Fu who plays Bill, which is like,
- 21:08it's like meta. It's super meta because, yeah.
- 21:10And did you know that he was cast as the guy in Kung Fu over
- 21:15Bruce Lee? They cast him because Bruce Lee
- 21:18was Asian. They're like, people don't want
- 21:20to watch. At the time, they were like, oh,
- 21:23people aren't gonna watch Chinese guy on TV.
- 21:26So they cast David Carradine for Kung Fu.
- 21:28And he was really, his heart was broken.
- 21:30Then he went to China to make Kung Fu movies because the
- 21:36Hollywood didn't want him. Yeah, it was a it was a
- 21:38difficult time then, if you were, if you were.
- 21:40Chinese but Oh my God this movie is so good.
- 21:43This movie introduced me to Tarantino.
- 21:45This was the one and this. Is your first.
- 21:47Was my first Tarantino and people were like, oh, you gotta
- 21:50watch Reservoir dogs. And then I, I found a copy of
- 21:53reservoir dogs at and like a bargain bin on VHS and I bought
- 21:58it for like 7 bucks and I took it home and I was like what am I
- 22:01watching? You know, like the ear cutting
- 22:04scene. So I'm like, oh, this is this is
- 22:07what this guy does. He's just pure chaos and blood.
- 22:11Yeah, so for me, the Kill Bill, I have brothers.
- 22:15So I had seen Kill Bill, I'd seen them watching Kill Bill one
- 22:18and two, seeing bits and pieces of it, was never really
- 22:21interested. And then my brother bought me
- 22:23that Tarantino box set. And that was the first time I
- 22:26really sat down and watched Kill Bill 1 and Kill Bill 2 all the
- 22:29way through. And I was like, yo, I've been
- 22:31sleeping on these movies. This is a good it's a good
- 22:34story. And the interesting thing about
- 22:36the first movie, Kill Bill Volume 1, is we don't really
- 22:40hear we we sort of that like why she's on this revenge rampage,
- 22:47but we don't really know the whole story yet.
- 22:49We don't really know what's going.
- 22:50On you don't. We kind of are just along for
- 22:52this ride with this woman who's, you know, very vengeful and
- 22:55wants to kill all these people. We don't really know why.
- 22:58We go to Vegeta Greens house. We see that whole thing happen
- 23:02overnight. Vernita Green.
- 23:04Vanita Green, the Black Mamba? Yeah, just call her Black.
- 23:08Mamba no no. Black Mamba is Beatrix Kiddo.
- 23:12Ohe yeah, she says. I'm the motherfucker, Black
- 23:14Mamba. No, she's the She's Copperhead.
- 23:19Copperhead's a black girl. I believe so cause cottonmouth
- 23:22is already she I'll driver is the California mountain snake.
- 23:28Just call her Vivica A Fox. That's the actress's name.
- 23:31I forget her fucking name. OK, well, anyway, she goes, she
- 23:34goes to her house, they have this standoff, they're both
- 23:36really good fighters. There's knife fight going on.
- 23:39She takes her unaware, throws a frigging dagger at her head.
- 23:44And then of course, we have the whole scene with the Crazy 88.
- 23:48Yeah, it starts off really strong with the O&E back story,
- 23:51with the anime scene. Yeah, so we see that she has a
- 23:55very tragic back story, but she's also a world class
- 23:58assassin. And then we see that she has
- 24:02become the leader of what's it called?
- 24:05What's the Japanese mob called? The Japanese mob that the
- 24:09Yakuza. Yeah, she's she's become the
- 24:11leader of the ACUSA. Yeah.
- 24:13And then we go into the whole Crazy 88 scene, which is great.
- 24:16But the reason this ranks #5 on my list is because I feel like
- 24:20that whole sequence is too long and it gets a little bit boring.
- 24:24I know it's really epic fight scene when she's killing all of
- 24:27them, but it runs a little too long.
- 24:29I don't think. So it's gratuitously violent, I
- 24:32think, and we're not getting any character development.
- 24:34We're just seeing she's a badass I could take.
- 24:36On all these people, honestly it ends and I'm like ohhhhh I
- 24:39wanted more. I didn't want more, I want it
- 24:41less. So you put it at 5:00 because of
- 24:43that. Basically after the scene with
- 24:46Gogo and until the scene with when she fights Oren, I find
- 24:51that whole like I kind of don't, I like I kind of zone out.
- 24:54I don't really watch that. Part go go scene is really.
- 24:56Good, the Gogo scenes amazing, but when she's fighting all the
- 24:58crazy 88, it doesn't really hold that much value for me because
- 25:01it's just it gets kind of repetitive and boring.
- 25:03It's like in a video game where you have one of those levels
- 25:06where it's like Mario versus the Kirby team or Mario versus the
- 25:10Yoshi team, like it's a bunch of NPC's basically that she's
- 25:15killing. Yeah.
- 25:17I did look up online, though, that she in, in the course of
- 25:20these two movies, she kills between 70 to 80 people.
- 25:24And it can't be confirmed because not all of the blows she
- 25:27hits, her death blows. But the Crazy 88 scene, I'll
- 25:30tell you this, we've seen it a bunch of times.
- 25:33The first time you watch it, she's standing there with the
- 25:35sword and they've all surrounded her and they're slowly walking
- 25:39up to her and she just fucking goes to town and she rips that
- 25:42guy's eye out. Right when that happens, it goes
- 25:45black and white. It's.
- 25:47First time you see it, it's like holy shit.
- 25:50And then for me, it's a holy shit all the time.
- 25:54It runs a little bit too long. So that's why I put Kill Bill
- 25:58Volume 1 as #5 still an incredible movie, still an
- 26:02amazing story, but I, I, I felt that it was it, it ranked five
- 26:07on my list. So since you rated it three, I
- 26:09think we should put it for four on the master list.
- 26:12Kill Bill one on four. OK, yeah, alright.
- 26:16This is going to be a moment where we both really disagree.
- 26:19We can always move things. We're just, we're just, you
- 26:22know, we're going to figure out the master list at the end.
- 26:24OK, you're ready for the next one.
- 26:26I'm ready. I don't dodge guilt.
- 26:36And I don't chew out of him, I come uppance.
- 26:41Can we just forget the past? Bad woman desires her revenge.
- 26:57And we deserve to die. Kill Bill, Volume 2.
- 27:02No way they kick it back. To back-to-back in in in
- 27:06chronological order too. So where is this on your list,
- 27:09Dad? I put this at six.
- 27:12How did this is my #3? OK, so you put one at 5 and you
- 27:17put. OK, OK.
- 27:19I think that Kill Bill Volume 2 is superior for, and I'll tell
- 27:23you one reason, the cruel tutelage scene.
- 27:27That scene is one of when she's learning how to how to fight,
- 27:32basically learning Kung Fu. That is one of the best scenes
- 27:34in any movie ever. It's more of a sequence.
- 27:37The sequence? Sure.
- 27:38Amazing. He is so hard on her but we
- 27:42watch her win him over with her like straight tenacity.
- 27:46We see her running up the hill with the with the buckets of
- 27:48water. We see her fight him with her
- 27:50samurai sword. We see her relentlessly hitting
- 27:53that board at close range with her fist trying to break it.
- 27:57It's it's on par with the rocky scene where he runs on the beach
- 28:00and it shows his up close, really muscular thighs.
- 28:03Yeah, the slomo with Carl. Weathers, if you want to be
- 28:06inspired to work out, watch that scene.
- 28:08Really. Yeah.
- 28:10Yeah, this is your point of view is that of a girl for sure,
- 28:14because for me it was it's OK. It's not super inspirational but
- 28:21kill Bill volume to like my brother rented one and then when
- 28:242 came out a few months later he rented #2 and I was like OK and
- 28:33my problem with this movie and this is the reason why I think
- 28:36it should be two separate movies.
- 28:38It is 2 separate movies. It is completely.
- 28:42Different. It's very, very different.
- 28:44Yeah, there's less martial arts. The whole Kung Fu vibe is gone.
- 28:48There's a few moments, but that. Becomes, yeah, there's there's
- 28:52way less samurai sword fighting and it becomes more of a Western
- 28:56Yeah, and #2 with the exception of the cruel tutelage scene.
- 28:59My issue with it is I liked the beginning.
- 29:03I like Kill Bill Volume 1 because of the Kung Fu part.
- 29:06The Western part, I was like, oh, I want some of the Kung Fu
- 29:10stuff back. Take me back to Japan.
- 29:11Like I don't want, I don't want this.
- 29:13So she does a cruel tutelage, which is kind of Kung Fu.
- 29:16It is, but then the rest doesn't really.
- 29:19But the rest isn't even her fucking fight with Bill at the
- 29:22end. It's so anticlimactic.
- 29:24It's the five point palm exploding.
- 29:25Heart technique. It's anticlimactic.
- 29:29I think it's, I think he kind of phoned that.
- 29:33This is the thing. The third act of that movie,
- 29:35like the whole reveal with the daughter was like, OK, like he's
- 29:39been taking care of the daughter.
- 29:41Yeah, it's shocking. Beatrix finds out that her
- 29:44daughter lived. I don't know.
- 29:46And also, we get the bride scene at the very beginning of the
- 29:49movie. We find out scene, we find out
- 29:52what happened. Finally, great sequence.
- 29:54And we have the pregnancy test sequence where she finds out
- 29:57she's pregnant. Yeah, I like the sequence with
- 29:59the the beginning where they show us what happened before
- 30:02they shot up the the Chapel, and also when she breaks out of the
- 30:07the little grave and that she's buried alive by Michael.
- 30:09Madsen Epic. Really disturbing.
- 30:12Yeah, very epic. But I don't know, there's a lot
- 30:16of dialogue in this movie. I just didn't really care.
- 30:20I I was like, give me the fucking revenge nonstop, just
- 30:24one after the other. But this is this is.
- 30:26Giving this is giving us motive. And we also see why a hot little
- 30:32piece like Kiddo is with David Carradine in this movie.
- 30:36Because if you look at him physically, you're like you.
- 30:41Yeah, he's Grandpa. But then we have the scene where
- 30:44they're camping out. He's playing his little flute
- 30:47for her. He's telling her the story.
- 30:49Didn't didn't fight with me. I'm sorry.
- 30:51It make it makes him sexy. No, no, he's grandpa.
- 30:54He's very. Chilling a story on a campfire
- 30:56and he's basically. OK, let me tell her from a
- 30:59woman's perspective, he's very charming and sweet and his voice
- 31:03is lulling you in that scene. He comes off as very sexy in
- 31:07that scene. And then you're like, OK, I
- 31:08understand why she's with him. I get it.
- 31:11I get how he gets all these women.
- 31:13I mean, I don't understand it personally.
- 31:16Well, because if you just look at him, you're like you.
- 31:18Yeah, and he doesn't see menacing in the first movie.
- 31:21They don't show his face. He's not menacing.
- 31:23That's why she felt she felt comfortable when he got.
- 31:25There he no, but in the first movie they don't show his face.
- 31:28They show him playing with the sword.
- 31:29He's on the phone. He's like very scary.
- 31:33He's like Thanos. And then the second movie they
- 31:35just fucking showed me just some old guy who hires people.
- 31:38Well, that's the thing. When he showed up at the Chapel,
- 31:39she wasn't afraid. She talked to him and they were
- 31:42like flirting and she felt. Exactly, that's my point.
- 31:45You went. From high then he fucking.
- 31:47He went from Thanos to a little bitch.
- 31:49No, he wasn't, because he brought in all those people to
- 31:52murder her. No, after that scene where they
- 31:55basically made amends. He didn't seem menacing and.
- 31:58That's very menacing in. The first movie he seen
- 32:00menacing. To me, Michael Madsen was more
- 32:03menacing than he was in the second movie.
- 32:06And the second movie, there was this sense of like, regret from
- 32:09him, and he was like, oh, don't kill me, No.
- 32:12He felt guilty for what he did to her.
- 32:15Well, it's too late for the. Character arc he he acted out in
- 32:19a moment of jealousy and anger and then he felt guilty about it
- 32:21and he raised her daughter until she came and collected her
- 32:24basically. That's a bit much.
- 32:26OK what? Where did you have it?
- 32:27You had. It at three at #3.
- 32:29You had it #6. Oh, so we moved hatefully to 4,
- 32:34right? No, hatefully, it is number 5.
- 32:37What's at 4 right now? Kill Bill 1.
- 32:39I can leave it at three. Yeah, yeah, it's close enough.
- 32:43Alright, I know you're gonna fight for the top spots.
- 32:47You ready for the next one? Yeah.
- 32:55OHP, here we go. Jesus Christ.
- 33:04Fuck Cute. Damn it Rick, fucking lines and
- 33:11verse yourself like that in front of all those God damn
- 33:14people when you're drinking all night.
- 33:16Fucking drinking again. 8 God damn fucking whiskey sours.
- 33:20Once Upon a time in Hollywood. Fucking A.
- 33:23You asked me what I'm putting at #10.
- 33:26This is going at #10. For real.
- 33:29Yeah, I have a fucking huge problem.
- 33:32With this, well, I have it at #9.
- 33:34I have a huge fucking problem with this movie.
- 33:36I have several problems with this movie.
- 33:38OK, the the the thing that bothers me about this movie,
- 33:42there's so much promise. There are good parts, but it's
- 33:46it fucking got ruined. It's too long.
- 33:50So that's part of the issue. It's way too fucking long we
- 33:55working. So just for context, we watched
- 33:57this the week it came out. We were camping in the US and we
- 34:01went with your cousins. A bunch of us went like 7 of.
- 34:04Us went. We were pumped.
- 34:05We were so. Excited Tarantino movie opening
- 34:08weekend. Opening weekend, wall camping.
- 34:10So we leave the campsite, we get all dressed up.
- 34:13We're like, let's go do some human functional things like eat
- 34:16popcorn. Yeah.
- 34:17And it was raining. Conditioning.
- 34:18It was raining at. The camp layout.
- 34:20So we go and we're excited and I enjoyed it the first time I
- 34:24watched it because that's my problem with this movie.
- 34:28It's a one time watch because it's too fucking long, there's
- 34:32minimal payoff and Tarrant. It's not a Tarantino movie.
- 34:37The only scene that's a Tarantino movie is the murder
- 34:40scene at the end. That's the only scene that feels
- 34:42like Tarantino. Let me give you something that I
- 34:45noticed recently. Alright, every Tarantino movie
- 34:50starts, the opening scene fucking draws you in.
- 34:55Every single one. Kill Bill?
- 34:58She gets shot, remember? Inglorious bastards.
- 35:03Hans Landa shows up at the farm. Pulp Fiction.
- 35:06The diner scene. The diner scene, exactly.
- 35:10Every single one starts with a bang.
- 35:12This movie does not. This movie starts with a fucking
- 35:17clip of Leonardo DiCaprio. Rick Dalton and his stunt double
- 35:24by played by Ben. Brad.
- 35:25Brad, Brad Pitt. OK.
- 35:28And they're just sitting there being interviewed and he's
- 35:31talking about how he's my stunt double and he does this and
- 35:35that, and then it cuts to them and Leo is in a restaurant and
- 35:39he meets up Al Pacino. Big fucking waste of Al Pacino,
- 35:42if you ask me. He's never been.
- 35:44Interior got that? Al Pacino is even in this.
- 35:46Big waste of Al Pacino, OK, Huge waste of him.
- 35:50And he's just talking to him and he's like, yeah, you should
- 35:53probably go to Italy and do Italian movies.
- 35:57And Leo comes out crying. It's not interesting.
- 36:00It's fucking boring. And then there's this half an
- 36:04hour fucking sequence of them driving home.
- 36:07He drives them home. And then you have Kurt Russell
- 36:11narrating. It's just boring and long.
- 36:14He's not a sympathetic character, it's a problem.
- 36:16He's a piece of shit, so we don't care about him.
- 36:18The thing with this movie is, yeah, I don't care for Leo's
- 36:22character not losing his fame. It feels like Tarantino has a
- 36:26crush on Margot Robbie. He does a bunch of sequences
- 36:30with her, dancing and looking cute and sexy, either in her
- 36:34room, folding laundry or just at a party.
- 36:38Yeah, but she's wasted in this. Movie.
- 36:39No, I know. But she just looks good.
- 36:41That's it. And I think it's just him being
- 36:44like, I think she's hot and I'm gonna make it.
- 36:47This is my excuse for doing this.
- 36:48And people call it the love letter to Hollywood in the 70s.
- 36:51His love letter to Hollywood because he used to drive around
- 36:54in a in a convertible with his stepdad and he saw Hollywood
- 36:58showing what he saw as a kid. And there are some beautiful
- 37:01shots showing off Hollywood. But the story itself, we we
- 37:06don't, we see Charlie Manson once.
- 37:08We don't feel we don't get to know Sharon Tate at all.
- 37:12I agree. There's a red herring scene on
- 37:15Manson's compound that takes like 40 minutes. 40 minutes of
- 37:20build up and you're like something's gonna fucking go
- 37:22down. And nothing happens.
- 37:24And nothing happens. Nothing happens and I'm like
- 37:27what the? Fuck situation where you should
- 37:29be spending 40 minutes on a red herring.
- 37:31It is so annoying. And the scene where Sharon Tate
- 37:35goes to see her movie Completely boring.
- 37:38She's just sitting in a movie theatre making popcorn.
- 37:40I don't want to see this. I want to see something
- 37:42interesting, build a character. Up.
- 37:44I've seen this movie 2 times from start to.
- 37:46Finish. I've never finished it.
- 37:48A second and the third time I could never get through it.
- 37:51I tried to watch it recently. I didn't tell you this.
- 37:54I was watching it recently and I was forwarding through a bunch
- 37:57of the scenes and the part that makes me wanna fucking just turn
- 38:01this fucking movie off. And I love these actors, Leo.
- 38:05Brad Yeah. Margot Robbie.
- 38:07I fucking love these actors when he's that whole like, I don't
- 38:13know, 40 minutes sequence where he's on set and the recording
- 38:18the TV show and they're asking him to say this and that.
- 38:23We're basically watching the TV show episode where he's
- 38:26recording it. Yeah.
- 38:27It's so long, it's fucking boring.
- 38:29I don't care. I don't care.
- 38:33And the fucking disrespect to Bruce Lee in this movie.
- 38:38Bruce Lee would have dummied that alcoholic old ass stuntman.
- 38:42He would have dummied him. Fuck you Tarantino for that
- 38:46moment in this movie, because that sucks.
- 38:48Unfortunately, this movie doesn't feel like it's this
- 38:51movie. It feels like Hollywood, you
- 38:54know, snatched him up. They cloned him and they made a
- 38:56fucking movie. Because it doesn't come.
- 38:58It doesn't seem like his movie. It feels like an overhyped
- 39:01director jerking off for. 3. Hours and us watching.
- 39:06It's three hours. Cause there's amazing beautiful
- 39:08shots, there's like semi interesting characters but
- 39:13they're not used well and the story itself is boring and and
- 39:18it's it's disjointed. This is the first episode of the
- 39:22podcast where we're bashing movies.
- 39:23Well, this is this is because we have a lot of respect for
- 39:26Tarantino and we love most of his movies.
- 39:28But we were. We're both deeply.
- 39:30Disappointed in this from the list.
- 39:32I would. I don't.
- 39:34I fucking hate this. Movie Tarantino claims he's only
- 39:36gonna do one more movie. He better do better than this
- 39:40because his last movie could not be another Once Upon a Time in.
- 39:43Hollywood the critic, right? And they're filming it.
- 39:45Now, no. It got it got pandemic or it got
- 39:48trashed. It's not happening.
- 39:50The movie critic got trashed. Yeah.
- 39:52OHS. Oh, OK, he wrote his script and
- 39:55he changed his mind about it or something.
- 39:56OK, so that's actually not gonna be his temple.
- 39:58We don't know what his 10th movie is gonna be at.
- 40:00What a waste anyway. It was a waste of money.
- 40:03It was a waste of really talented actors.
- 40:05It was a bad story. And if you're going to tell a
- 40:07story about Charlie Manson, why don't you put Charlie Manson in
- 40:11it? More than 5 seconds.
- 40:12More than 5 seconds. Yeah, he's a really freaky
- 40:15character. You could have done some amazing
- 40:17stuff. And I get the whole revisionist
- 40:18history thing about Sharon Tate being saved and stuff, but you
- 40:23don't need to make it about Rick Dalton.
- 40:26The honestly, the last 25 minutes of this movie where they
- 40:30show up at Brad Pitt's house or Rick Dalton's house and Rick
- 40:35Dalton's in the pool and you bust out the flame thrower and
- 40:38then Brad Pitt's dog. That's the only part that's
- 40:40interesting. That's like.
- 40:41The best scene? No, that's the only part.
- 40:43I'm not sitting through almost 3 hours to see 20 minutes of
- 40:47action or entertainment. The rest is fucking boring.
- 40:50I agree. His stuntman is depressing as
- 40:53fuck. Yeah, when it shows him in his
- 40:55in his trailer, Yeah, that scene is like 20 minutes.
- 40:59Yeah, of him making Mac and cheese and feeding his dog.
- 41:01Why are we watching? This and there's like 15
- 41:04minutes, maybe we'd have to add it up, but there's, I guarantee
- 41:08you there's about 20 minutes of just driving sequences.
- 41:11And it's not a chasing, it's just driving around.
- 41:13This is a Big Brother. We don't want to see people just
- 41:15living their lives. We wanna see something
- 41:17interesting. Show us something interesting.
- 41:19And it's a waste of Al Pacino. I'm perfectly comfortable
- 41:22putting this all. Pacino, listen.
- 41:23Al Pacino and Leonardo DiCaprio in the same scene at a table
- 41:29talking to each other, and that's what we got.
- 41:34Thank you. I'm like mad just talking about
- 41:36I'm comfortable putting this in #10 actually I actually think it
- 41:39is worse than rest of our dogs upon upon discussion.
- 41:42Honestly. No offence, I love Tarantino,
- 41:44fuck this movie. I agree.
- 41:47All right, it was my #9 it was your number 10.
- 41:49It belongs to the bottom of the list.
- 41:51OK, you ready for the next one? Let's do it.
- 42:01Your palm flat on that table top.
- 42:03If you lift those palms off that turtle shell tabletop, Mr. Putin
- 42:07is going to lose both fails that start off.
- 42:11There have been a lot of lies said around this dinner table
- 42:13here tonight, but that you can't believe.
- 42:18Ah yes, I do believe you were just getting ready to make me a
- 42:22proposition to Baboom Hilda, am I right?
- 42:26Django Unchained. Django the D is silent.
- 42:34Where is this on your list, Dad? I have it at #4.
- 42:38I have it at #7. Oh, OK, that's your #7.
- 42:42That's my #7. So let's talk about it.
- 42:45This is a really, really great movie.
- 42:49Yeah, for the 1st 2/3. The third act is boring and
- 42:54garbage and it ruins the whole movie.
- 42:57As soon as Christoph Waltz dies, yeah, the movie goes to shit.
- 43:01And Leo, you took out the two best characters because what's
- 43:06his name? What's Who's Django?
- 43:08Who plays Django? Jamie Foxx.
- 43:10Jamie Foxx cannot carry this movie.
- 43:12He needs Christoph Waltz and Leo and once they both die, the
- 43:15movie sucks. Your thoughts?
- 43:17OK, so I don't disagree. The first two acts of this movie
- 43:21are fucking sublime. You've got really good.
- 43:24You've got and you're right, I don't think Jamie Foxx as good
- 43:27as he was in Collateral and in Ray.
- 43:32I don't think he could carry this movie because you have you
- 43:36have three really good actors on screen.
- 43:39You have him, you have Leo and you have Christoph Waltz, but
- 43:42you have two fucking juggernauts in my opinion, standing next to
- 43:46Jamie Foxx because Jamie Foxx is a he started as a community.
- 43:51He's multi talented. He's a great talent, don't get
- 43:53me wrong. He's very, but when you're
- 43:55standing next to Christoph Waltz, who's basically in his
- 43:58prime, he's like 93 Michael Jordan.
- 44:01And then you've got Leo, who's 2006, 2007, Kobe Bryant, You
- 44:07know, he's looking kinda, he's looking kind of basic.
- 44:11Yeah, he's a he's a great actor, but also his character is the
- 44:15least interesting of the three. Christoph Waltz is very he's a
- 44:18very interesting character. Very, very unique, very
- 44:22eccentric. Well, it's the dialogue that
- 44:24they're given, right? But Jamie Foxx's character is
- 44:27like Django is interesting. His back story, he's trying to
- 44:30save his. Wife.
- 44:30But he's the least interesting of the three, I'm saying.
- 44:32But yeah I agree. But The thing is, once Christoph
- 44:37Waltz and Leo were killed, the tension is gone.
- 44:40That's the problem. Yeah, because they had really
- 44:42good tension and Leo is like a dangerous person, like the can,
- 44:47the yeah, the candy man, like. He's the antagonist, and the
- 44:50antagonist is gone, and then Samuel Jackson slides in.
- 44:54He tries to take over. But he's a slave.
- 44:56He doesn't have that kind. Of power, it doesn't, it doesn't
- 44:58really good. Like it doesn't work as well.
- 45:01It doesn't. Yeah.
- 45:02So, I mean, I think if Christoph Waltz was killed and Leo
- 45:07survived somehow and then they imprisoned Django, that would
- 45:11have been good because you'd still have that cloud above him
- 45:15that he might not, you know, as soon as Leo died, I'm like, he's
- 45:19getting, he's gonna get away. He's gonna get away.
- 45:22He's going to get his wife. And they're going to, they're
- 45:24going to piece. The tensions gone and then it's
- 45:26a very drawn out shootout in the house.
- 45:29It's I saw this in theatres. Shooting out again against a
- 45:33bunch of NPCS. There's nobody in that group
- 45:35that were like oh shit, so and so is coming.
- 45:37He's gonna end this all like, no.
- 45:38I saw this in theatres as well and when I watched it initially
- 45:42like I was like fuck this is amazing because just the certain
- 45:47sequences when he finds those two brothers at that plantation.
- 45:53Yeah. That's any fucking grabs the
- 45:54whip and he beats the fuck out of them.
- 45:58It is so satisfying. And then?
- 46:02The scene, the scene where they kill the sheriff and the sheriff
- 46:05turned out to be an outlaw and the whole town comes running and
- 46:09Christoph Waltz takes out the most wanted poster.
- 46:11And the scene were they parked his little wagon and all the KKK
- 46:17guys show up with Jonah Hill. Yeah, Jonah Hills randomly,
- 46:20that's. So funny.
- 46:22That's such a great scene. It is.
- 46:23It's it's awesome. This movie is great.
- 46:26And the motivation to save his wife is like, it's, it's
- 46:30awesome. Everybody's down for that.
- 46:31And it's a Western. And Christoph Waltz is a big
- 46:34fuck you to slavery character for sure.
- 46:36He's like slavery's bullshit. I'm going to free you, we're
- 46:38going to go get your wife. And he and he speaks German to
- 46:41her. Like it works on so many.
- 46:43Levels so good just after he gets killed and Leo gets killed.
- 46:48It kind of and my biggest issue from when I saw it in the
- 46:51theatres to this day and it still doesn't work for me.
- 46:55Tarantino is a fucking magician when it comes to musical
- 46:58choices, but when they're walking, they're going back to
- 47:03Leo's place. He starts blasting Rick Ross in
- 47:09a western. Yeah, that's it, I felt.
- 47:11Like that didn't fit. It did not fit.
- 47:13And then at the end he does a remix to a Tupac song during the
- 47:18shootout in the house, and it's kind of cool, but it doesn't
- 47:23work. It just doesn't work, man.
- 47:26I love his musical choices. I love Tupac, but then but it
- 47:31doesn't belong. It doesn't belong in that scene.
- 47:33I I wanted to see some, you know, he took some liberties.
- 47:37He took some creative liberties, which he's known for.
- 47:39And sometimes, in a lot of times, they fucking hit.
- 47:42It, it works for most of the movie, but then we just, we get
- 47:45that last scene and when he runs away from the house and his wife
- 47:47like plugs her ears and smiles cause they're gonna blow up the
- 47:50house. It feels cheesy at that point.
- 47:52There's no longer any fear. There's no longer like any build
- 47:55up. It just, it feels like a like a
- 47:57fairy tale ending to a movie that was not a fairy tale.
- 48:01It doesn't fit. It's a western, but yeah,
- 48:04anyway, I still love this movie. I could watch it over and over.
- 48:07And also, just to shout out, Leo should have fucking won an Oscar
- 48:11for this movie 100%. This is the movie he should have
- 48:14won his best actor or Best Supporting Actor in because.
- 48:17He cuts his hand. For real.
- 48:19For real. He breaks that.
- 48:21And then he rubs the blood on on Jamie Foxx's wife or Django's
- 48:25wife's face. That is such an that is an
- 48:28artist. That is a.
- 48:29Decision an artist would. Make that's fucking.
- 48:32Absolutely should have won an Oscar for it.
- 48:34It's an amazing. Sort of Wall Swan for this and
- 48:37he was great. Should have, but no, I think Leo
- 48:39should have won. I think Leo was better in this
- 48:41as Calvin Candy. He he was amazed.
- 48:43Better. No, he was better.
- 48:44But he hear me out. It's it's a #7 for me because it
- 48:48the the third act really wrecks it and really makes it a lot
- 48:51lower on the list and a lot of my other choices.
- 48:54So are you comfortable with putting it at six?
- 48:58OHS what what? What else is open that's higher
- 49:02than 6? One and two unless you want to
- 49:07move Hateful 8 down or Kill Bill one or two down.
- 49:11No to sex. Let's put Jango at six, OK,
- 49:15let's what's what's ahead of it's.
- 49:17Hateful 8 and Kill Bill 1 and 2 are ahead of it, which I think
- 49:20rightfully so. Flip Hateful 8 was no hatefully.
- 49:23It's better. I like hate flight better than
- 49:26Django. The third act is better.
- 49:29Oh yeah, the third act is way better.
- 49:30So 6. 6. OK.
- 49:34I can, I can live with Django at six because like I said, it's
- 49:37still amazing and I love it and I will watch it again.
- 49:40Yeah, but for me, it was on the lower half of my list just
- 49:43because that third act really, it really costs the movie a lot
- 49:46of its a lot of its prestige, I feel.
- 49:50OK, ready next one. Let's do.
- 49:51It running out of running out of options.
- 49:54Here we have a few left. Oh, this one's going to be
- 50:02interesting. All you got to do is lay in here
- 50:06and hold on to this motherfucker, right?
- 50:09I'm going to tell him I'm going in the trunk to show him the
- 50:11goods. When I open the trunk, you pop
- 50:12up. Rack this motherfucker, man.
- 50:15Fuck that shit. Ain't gonna shoot nobody.
- 50:16Ain't saying nothing about you. Shoot nobody.
- 50:18All you got to do is hold on to it.
- 50:19They'll get the idea. Now.
- 50:20You must be out of your fucking mind if you think I'm going to
- 50:23get in this dirty ass Trump. Maria down man.
- 50:26You ain't going to be in here no more than 10 minutes.
- 50:30The damn truck for no minute, man.
- 50:31It working right up front with you.
- 50:32Came right up front with me. The surprise element is 90% of
- 50:35it. I'm sorry man, but I ain't
- 50:36getting no God damn Trump. Jackie Brown.
- 50:40Jackie Brown, Yeah. You're not going to like this.
- 50:44I put Jackie Brown at #8. Ah, that's not terrible.
- 50:49I got it at 7:00. Oh, really?
- 50:51Yeah. I thought you really liked
- 50:52Jackie Brown. I do.
- 50:55I recently watched it. I do think that this is one of
- 51:00his more honestly, this move. There's nothing wrong with this
- 51:03movie. It's very well done, it's
- 51:05polished. Feel very Tarantino.
- 51:07It still does. It does, but it's very polished.
- 51:11Like there's no randomness. Like a lot of his movies have
- 51:14randomness where it's a crazy cut or crazy.
- 51:18I would say Robert De Niro's character in everything he's he
- 51:21does is very random. Having sex with the Stoner girl
- 51:25going in, being in the RV trying to drive out like he, I think
- 51:28he's very random. He's on an RV.
- 51:29It's the it's the camper van. The camper.
- 51:31Van it's the VW Van he, he shoots Samuel Jackson's wife or
- 51:36girlfriend. Sorry.
- 51:37Well, it's, it's just some girl who gets high with.
- 51:40It's not really his girlfriend because he bangs her and he's
- 51:42like, yeah, I don't care if you bang her.
- 51:44But I, I put it at #7 because I the story is great.
- 51:50I like the character of Jackie Brown.
- 51:52I don't find her that likable. She's likable but they hype her
- 51:56up to be really attractive. And she's not.
- 52:00Which is kind of weird. She's pretty, don't get me
- 52:02wrong. She's a.
- 52:03Pretty Woman, mind you, there are.
- 52:04Sorry. There are a couple scenes where
- 52:06she's all dolled up and she actually looks.
- 52:08Really. Good.
- 52:09I actually think she looks like a Barbie.
- 52:10She, she looks really good. She's.
- 52:12In her. Stewardess outfit she looks
- 52:13like. A Barbie, but she's not like
- 52:15I've seen better looking women. Yeah, and the Bill bondsman is
- 52:19basically the guy from Breaking Bad, the vacuum cleaner guy,
- 52:22because he takes money, he gets people out of trouble who are in
- 52:25the law. He drives them around, he picks
- 52:28them up, he drops them off. Like I was like, yo, Vince
- 52:32Gilligan basically saw Jake, Jackie Brown and like, I wanted
- 52:35this guy to be the vacuum repair guy.
- 52:38Yeah, it's it's a good movie. It's interesting.
- 52:40It has that whole heist movie part of it.
- 52:42But I don't find Jackie Brown to actually be that great of a
- 52:46character. Yeah, this is one of Samuel
- 52:48Jackson's weaker roles. I'd actually say, especially in
- 52:51a Tarantino movie. I didn't find him to really be
- 52:55magnetic or enthralling at all. I really don't find him
- 52:58interesting in this movie at all.
- 53:00And the story itself feels like it drags a little bit.
- 53:04It doesn't. It doesn't.
- 53:05It's not like go, go, go. Exciting, exciting, exciting.
- 53:07Yeah, it has its moments, but I feel like like we made a movie
- 53:12about this story. So this movie is more of a, it's
- 53:15like a, it's a low key comedy. There's a lot of funny dialogue.
- 53:20Yeah, there is. Like with Samuel Jackson shows
- 53:22up at Jackie Brown's house after she is out on bail and he's
- 53:26basically scaring her. He's turning off her lights and
- 53:29he's got his hands around her neck to threaten her.
- 53:32Basically to say like, don't fucking say anything or I'm
- 53:34going to kill you. And then.
- 53:36Yeah, she thinks she's going to die and.
- 53:37That's and then she just all you hear, because it's dark, all you
- 53:40hear is a gun caulking and he's like, what is that?
- 53:43And then she's like, what do you think it is?
- 53:45And he's like, I think it's a gun on my Dick.
- 53:48And she's like, yeah. And she's like, get your mother
- 53:51fucking hands off me. And he's like, yeah, I was just
- 53:54joking. I was just playing.
- 53:55He's like, no, no, no. He's like, yeah, you wasn't
- 53:57playing with where you was playing with me.
- 53:59Now you ain't. And then she turns the light on
- 54:02and Samuel Jackson's on the couch.
- 54:04She's like, put your mother fucking hands up on your head.
- 54:06And he's like, yo, what are we doing?
- 54:08He's like, I was just joking around.
- 54:09We're friends. And she's like, yeah, I forgive
- 54:11you. She's got a gun pointed at him.
- 54:13Like that's really cool, but it is a slower, chill Tarantino
- 54:20movie. Michael Keaton's in it, which is
- 54:22great. I I do love Michael Keaton.
- 54:25Any movie Michael Keaton is in, I always just.
- 54:27Call him Jacksonville Jackson dialogues in it and it is really
- 54:30good. He Chris Tucker, young Chris
- 54:32Tucker makes an appearance right when he he's a Bhutan, Bhutan.
- 54:37I can't remember his name. Anyway, Chris Tucker's in it for
- 54:42a bit and then it's a big waste of Robert De Niro.
- 54:46Robert De Niro's character is weird and he's not in it that
- 54:49much. And when he is in it, he's not
- 54:51really. Yeah, he's he's.
- 54:52Very prime Robert De Niro post Goodfellas.
- 54:55What the fuck is this? Like give him something better?
- 54:58He's just some fucking idiot from Detroit who gets high and
- 55:02then. Well, it's showing he has range.
- 55:05He doesn't. He barely, he's barely in the
- 55:06movie. He's barely in the movie.
- 55:08He's he's just getting high all the time.
- 55:10And he, and then he. Has like they go to the mall.
- 55:12They even do in the movie. He has no point.
- 55:15No, he goes to the mall with with Blondie and they go pick up
- 55:19the bag. Yeah.
- 55:20And then Samuel Jackson is picked up from De Niro, picks
- 55:25him up from the strip strip club and finds out that Jackie Brown
- 55:29took his money. That's it, he's in it.
- 55:31And then he, Samuel Jackson, accuses him of stealing his
- 55:36money. He's like, I didn't do it.
- 55:37And he's like, how could you say that?
- 55:38You know, cause they went to prison together and he fucking
- 55:41shoots them. Yeah, he does.
- 55:43Hero dies. It's like, OK, like it's pretty
- 55:45underwhelming. It's one of his weakest roles if
- 55:48you ask me, for dinero. I also think it's a Samuel
- 55:52Jackson. It's a weak role and I think
- 55:53that Jackie, the girl that plays Jackie Brown, does not have
- 55:56leading lady charisma. Yeah, it's good dialogue,
- 56:01though. Like the bartender, it's.
- 56:03Good dialogue. It's still a good.
- 56:04Movies Jackie Brown and he's like, he's like how you doing?
- 56:08And she's like, he says, how are you?
- 56:10It's like I'm fine. He's like, yes you are.
- 56:14It's a good movie. I just, I put it at #8 on my
- 56:16list because it's always one of those put in Tarantino movies
- 56:20that for me, I'm like, this does not hit like a Tarantino movie.
- 56:25Have 7 open. We have 7 open so I.
- 56:28Think I think 7. I think that's where it should
- 56:30go. Alright, we've got 2 left and we
- 56:34haven't come across these yet so this should be interesting.
- 56:46Oh, you were finished. Oh well, allow me to retort.
- 56:51What does Marcellus Wallace look like?
- 56:55What? What country are you from?
- 56:59Watch what? Ain't no country I ever heard
- 57:01of. They speak English.
- 57:02In what? What English, Mother, do you
- 57:06speak it? Yes, and you know what I'm
- 57:07saying. Describe what Marcellus Wallace
- 57:11looks like. Pulp Fiction.
- 57:13I've been waiting. OK, I've been waiting.
- 57:17This is my number one. This movie.
- 57:20We have a poster of this movie in my basement.
- 57:23This is, this is Tarantino. This is Tarantino in his
- 57:27essence. Where do you have it?
- 57:29Don't tell me it's #2. It's #2 on my fuck off.
- 57:32I got it at #2 fuck off, OK? How dare you?
- 57:37What do you mean? How dare.
- 57:38We watch this movie and die laughing because we both love it
- 57:41so much. It's a great movie, we know #2
- 57:43on my. List beat The opening scene in
- 57:46the diner with the was a honey bun and honey Bunny.
- 57:53Honey Bunny? And what's the guy?
- 57:54I don't know. It's Tim Roth, the actor.
- 57:56The scene, they're talking about robbing a diner and then they
- 58:00just fucking do it. I know.
- 58:02And little do they know Samuel Jackson fucking John Travolta
- 58:06are like hitman in there. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:08Oh so. Good flashback.
- 58:11It's a flashback, flash forward, the whole movie is all.
- 58:13Over the place? Yeah, it's out of order.
- 58:15You know what they actually do in this movie that is kind of a
- 58:17full paw? They show John Travolta getting
- 58:22killed. Spoiler alert by Bruce Willis in
- 58:24his apartment. Halfway through.
- 58:25And then he shows up alive again.
- 58:28You're not supposed to do that in movies because this character
- 58:31died and now we're seeing him still living his life.
- 58:33It's kind of weird, but it works.
- 58:36It works in this movie. The movie is all over the place
- 58:38in the in the timeline, but it's amazing.
- 58:41The diner scene is amazing. The scene where they go get the
- 58:44car cleaned up after accidentally shooting that guy
- 58:46in the face. Amazing.
- 58:48The scene in the apartment where they get the suitcase is
- 58:51amazing. What's in the suitcase so
- 58:53incredibly? Like Mcguffin the suitcase
- 58:56Mcguffin. So interesting.
- 58:57What is that? Why is it glowing?
- 58:59Is it is it Marcellus Wallace's soul?
- 59:01We don't know. Does he look like a?
- 59:04Bitch, does he look like a bitch.
- 59:07So good. And the whole sequence with
- 59:10Bruce Willis I absolutely love. I love when he's in the car with
- 59:14the cab driver. I love when he goes home to
- 59:16Fabian. Fucking hate his girlfriend.
- 59:18I love his girlfriend. Useless.
- 59:20I love when they lay in bed. She heavily implies that she's
- 59:23pregnant in that scene. Love it.
- 59:26Love all of it. Love that she wants to get
- 59:29blueberry waffles and a blueberry piece of pie in the
- 59:31morning. Love that she's a dumb ass.
- 59:33I forgot his father's watch. Love the Christopher Walken
- 59:36scene where he talks about his father having them watch up his
- 59:38ass. How would you rate this number
- 59:40two? It's so good.
- 59:41OK, so it sounds like we're we're arguing for each other's
- 59:45Movies Now, so I'm going to argue for Inglorious Masters.
- 59:49Take your Wiener Schnitzel. Your boy out on this map, What I
- 59:52wanna know? Fuck you and your judo dogs.
- 1:00:01Actually, we're all tickled to hear you say that.
- 1:00:03Quite frankly, watching Donnie beat Nazi's death is close.
- 1:00:05We ever get going the movies, Donnie?
- 1:00:08Yeah, gosh, German here, once docked country oblige him.
- 1:00:14I got inglorious bastards as my #1.
- 1:00:18I love this. Fucking it's an incredible
- 1:00:20movie. It's my number 2.
- 1:00:22And Pulp Fiction is your #2 right?
- 1:00:23Yeah, so OK, I saw this movie in theatres with some friends.
- 1:00:28So did I. And I think you got a standing
- 1:00:32ovation at the theatre. I can't remember when there was
- 1:00:35some. Glazing.
- 1:00:36So Pulp Fiction is pure Tarantino, and I agree 100% and
- 1:00:42it's phenomenal. I think it's probably yeah.
- 1:00:45It's his best movie up to Inglorious.
- 1:00:48Bastards is one of the best movies of all time.
- 1:00:50Yeah, yeah, I agree. It changed Cinema.
- 1:00:53It changed. The movie, yeah, completely
- 1:00:54changed. Cinema.
- 1:00:55But I think Tarantino took that formula any polished it and
- 1:01:00polished it and polished it. And he came out with Inglorious
- 1:01:04Bastards because that is polished finesse Tarantino.
- 1:01:10The acting, the characters, the fucking dialogue in different.
- 1:01:16Like this guy directed people in German and he doesn't speak
- 1:01:21German. He directed people in French.
- 1:01:24He would go up to Christoph Waltz.
- 1:01:26He discovered he gave Hollywood Christoph Waltz.
- 1:01:29He did. He did.
- 1:01:31He discovered. Him, he would go up to herself,
- 1:01:33Waltz and he said, I need you to say it like this.
- 1:01:37And Christoph Waltz would say it exactly like he wanted in
- 1:01:40German. And Christoph Waltz is like,
- 1:01:43this guy is a genius. He's like, I don't understand
- 1:01:46how he could do this, but he fucking did it.
- 1:01:49There's no question that Quentin Tarantino is a creative genius.
- 1:01:52When people can take a kernel of an idea and explode it the way
- 1:01:57he does into a beautiful piece of popcorn that you can then eat
- 1:02:01while you watch one of his masterpieces, this is a creative
- 1:02:05genius. So Inglorious Bastards took a
- 1:02:08really fucked up situation and that happened in real life.
- 1:02:12World War 2 Nazi Germany and made a fictional story about it
- 1:02:18that rivals true World War Two stories and movies.
- 1:02:23It's a Hitler revenge story too. For sure, it's revisionist
- 1:02:26history, but it's Hitler murder. It is like it's phenomenal.
- 1:02:31I can't even the the There's two scenes in this movie that are
- 1:02:36probably the two best written scenes in the history of
- 1:02:39filmmaking. You can literally they could be
- 1:02:42their own movies. The opening sequence with Hans
- 1:02:45Landa OHP Missoula Pedit when he shows up at his farm and he sits
- 1:02:52there and asks for the glass of milk.
- 1:02:54Holy fuck man. I I like that scene, but I I
- 1:02:58find it a little bit too long. That's the point.
- 1:03:01It's a slow burn. You think that you're getting
- 1:03:03eased into comfort, right? Because he's like, there's
- 1:03:06nobody here. I don't know what happened to
- 1:03:08their family. And then he starts fucking
- 1:03:10questioning. And then he starts saying, you
- 1:03:13know, it doesn't occur to a German soldier, but it does
- 1:03:16occur to me. It's such good writing.
- 1:03:20And I agree it's good writing, but honestly whenever we watch
- 1:03:22that movie, when that scene comes out, I'm like oh it's a
- 1:03:24fucking boring scene and then. Once.
- 1:03:26Are you fucking serious? Once we get past.
- 1:03:28That scene, it's a great. Movie.
- 1:03:30You cannot. Pulp Fiction does not have a
- 1:03:33moment You're that I feel that way.
- 1:03:35Insane. You're insane.
- 1:03:36I find it. A little nobody says that scene
- 1:03:38is boring or long. That scene is fucking insanely
- 1:03:42good. You think of this is the strudel
- 1:03:45scene, right? Because that is an.
- 1:03:46Amazing Christoph Waltz won the Oscar.
- 1:03:48That's the clip that showed in the fucking Academy Awards
- 1:03:51because that, you know, we're all sitting there watching this
- 1:03:55and we're. Like awards are rigged.
- 1:03:56How are you using that? I'm saying that scene, it's
- 1:03:59universally known as one of the greatest pieces of directing,
- 1:04:03acting, everything, even the music.
- 1:04:05He's got fucking bait Beethoven playing but in like a very scary
- 1:04:10way on the piano as he pulls up his.
- 1:04:12There's some tension in that scene, but I.
- 1:04:14I. Think it's the most boring?
- 1:04:16Part of the movie. You're your argument is invalid
- 1:04:18for saying that. And then the other scene, which
- 1:04:21is probably even better, is in the fucking basement in the bar
- 1:04:25with Michael Fassbender. He also discovered Michael
- 1:04:28Fassbender for us. He and Michael.
- 1:04:31Gave us Michael Fassbender. He yeah, he's a treasure.
- 1:04:34Exactly. And they're in the basement.
- 1:04:37They're sitting down. He's speaking German.
- 1:04:40And Fassbender is only in it for 2 short scenes and he makes such
- 1:04:43an impact. And then the other German
- 1:04:45soldier, he's like the guys arguing.
- 1:04:48He's like Wilhelm, He's like my son Maximilian, Can you sign it?
- 1:04:52And he's like, you have a weird accent.
- 1:04:53And he tells him to fuck off. And then the other German
- 1:04:56soldier from the officer from the other room, he's reading a
- 1:04:59book. He notices the accent and it's
- 1:05:0220 minutes of pure tension. Yeah, no, I love that scene.
- 1:05:06I love the movie. Don't get me.
- 1:05:08Wrong Pitt. Brad Pitt does some crazy
- 1:05:10southern accent. I love fucking.
- 1:05:12Works. Gore, Alami.
- 1:05:14Golani It works, and we quote Pulp Fiction all the time too.
- 1:05:19But this to me is and just if Tarantino's listening.
- 1:05:25I mean, he knows that this is better than Pulp Fiction because
- 1:05:29he calls it his masterpiece at the end of the movie.
- 1:05:32OK. But literally calls.
- 1:05:33It, like you said Inglorious, would not happen without Pulp
- 1:05:36Fiction. It's a chicken or.
- 1:05:38The egg fiction wouldn't have happened without Reservoir Dogs,
- 1:05:40and you put it at. 10 It's a chicken or the egg.
- 1:05:42Situation with. 10 But nobody can dispute that Pulp Fiction is
- 1:05:45pure Tarantino. There's not a dull moment and it
- 1:05:48is such an interesting movie, whereas Inglorious Bastards it
- 1:05:52does. I'm sorry, but I think that
- 1:05:54painting scene is a little bit boring.
- 1:05:56And my God, you're fucking insane.
- 1:06:00And some people may not like the subtitles.
- 1:06:01Honestly, I forget that they're even there because it's so
- 1:06:04engrossing. Another reason why it's so good.
- 1:06:07Which is why it's by #2 It's an amazing movie, but it's not as
- 1:06:10good as Pulp Fiction. Oh, I forgot this.
- 1:06:13And it's missing John Travolta. John Travolta.
- 1:06:16I'm good. John Travolta is amazing in Pulp
- 1:06:18Fiction. It revitalized his career.
- 1:06:21Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything.
- 1:06:24The fucking scene where he sits with Shoshana and orders her a
- 1:06:28glass of milk. That scene is fucking terrifying
- 1:06:33because we're like, is he gonna question her?
- 1:06:35He fucking knows it's her. That's why you orders the milk.
- 1:06:39He knows it's her, but he's just playing his cards because he
- 1:06:42wants to see what happens. I don't think it's ever
- 1:06:44confirmed that. He does sushi is he knows who
- 1:06:46she is 100%. He knows who she is because she
- 1:06:50discovers that there's the Operation Kino happening.
- 1:06:53He kills the actress, right? He could have stopped Shanna.
- 1:06:57He knows it's her, but he doesn't.
- 1:06:58He discovered it because. He's on his way.
- 1:07:00The terrible Italian accents. You would have known.
- 1:07:04No, he he knows. He found the her shoe and he
- 1:07:08found the napkin with her lipstick on it.
- 1:07:10Yes. So he knows the German actress
- 1:07:12is is a double agent. Yeah, but she doesn't know who
- 1:07:15Shoshana is. He knows he orders her a glass
- 1:07:18of milk. And then he says there's one
- 1:07:19more thing I was gonna talk to you about.
- 1:07:21And there's this long pause and then.
- 1:07:23He's like, he makes and he makes that face so seriously
- 1:07:28terrifying. He makes that same face in the
- 1:07:30opening sequence. Yeah, that.
- 1:07:31Face fucking terrifying. And I love Pulp Fiction.
- 1:07:34I love it. There are two completely
- 1:07:36different movies. But if you ask anybody, Well,
- 1:07:39not anybody, But if you ask me, Pulp Fiction is amazing.
- 1:07:44It's a plus. But Inglorious Bastards is a
- 1:07:48plus plus. For me though, like.
- 1:07:52He makes a scene with Hitler in it.
- 1:07:54Funny. Who and what is a private?
- 1:07:57Fund have a list of my ten favorite movies Pulp Fiction
- 1:08:00makes the Kind and Glorious doesn't.
- 1:08:02Oh my God. Wow, that's why it's my #2 it's
- 1:08:06so. Good thing I give Pulp Fiction
- 1:08:08over poster. The poster is way.
- 1:08:10Fucking amazing. It's, it's a great piece of art.
- 1:08:14It's Tarantino's second best movie.
- 1:08:16Yeah. But I, I, I can't put Pulp
- 1:08:18Fiction at #2 I can't do. It.
- 1:08:19So here's where I find. The number one.
- 1:08:21Story. To me, there's no moment in
- 1:08:24Inglorious Bastards and the third act is fucking perfect
- 1:08:28fiction. My concern with it.
- 1:08:30Here's my issue. The third act is great.
- 1:08:33The third act is the diner. It's amazing.
- 1:08:36So a lot of people like this scene, but I don't when they
- 1:08:39call the wolf played by Harvey Keitel and this is what I
- 1:08:43mentioned earlier about Harvey Keitel.
- 1:08:45I don't like that whole scene. Harvey Keitel.
- 1:08:49I like them cleaning the car, but you got Tarantino in it and
- 1:08:53you can barely act, so it takes me out of the movie a little bit
- 1:08:57and then you have him talking. Harvey Kartel is overselling his
- 1:09:01wolf role. He's overacting.
- 1:09:04It's not believable. He's not a tough guy.
- 1:09:06He's plays a tough guy in in Reservoir Dogs too, and I don't.
- 1:09:11It's not believable. Going to change your mind right
- 1:09:13now? You know how?
- 1:09:14How? You know what?
- 1:09:15The wolf Very very probably inspired what Mike in Breaking
- 1:09:21Bad. Mike in Breaking Bad is the wolf
- 1:09:25you you call him to clean up messes.
- 1:09:27Mike and Breaking Bad. No, no, no.
- 1:09:29I don't think we'd have that scene where he is called When
- 1:09:32Jesse's Girlfriend Is Dead without Pulp Fiction.
- 1:09:35Pulp Fiction is the inspiration for that scene.
- 1:09:38It does if it if it inspires something as amazing as Breaking
- 1:09:41Bad as a portion of bringing out whatever.
- 1:09:44Reservoir Dogs inspired Pulp Fiction.
- 1:09:47That doesn't make it better. You put it at #10 you can't.
- 1:09:51You can't have it both ways. OK, what are we gonna do?
- 1:09:53We're an impasse. What are we gonna?
- 1:09:55Do I don't? Know rock, paper, scissors?
- 1:09:58Rock, paper, scissors. Rock, paper, scissors for it,
- 1:10:00because I'm not putting Pulp Fiction at #2.
- 1:10:03Oht man OK, go down the list starting at 10 countdown. #10
- 1:10:09Once Upon a time in Hollywood #9 Reservoir dogs #8 Death proof #7
- 1:10:17Jackie Brown number six. Django #5 Hateful 8 #4 Kill Bill
- 1:10:25Volume 1 and #3 Kill Bill Volume 2.
- 1:10:30The two best movies are inglorious Bastards in Pulp
- 1:10:33Fiction. I have no argument about that.
- 1:10:35Pulp Fiction, slightly better. Slightly.
- 1:10:39I don't know man, that's a tough one.
- 1:10:43What poster do we have in our basement?
- 1:10:45We have Pulp Fiction because the poster is better.
- 1:10:47What movie do you and I watch and just laugh because like all
- 1:10:50the seasons are so good. I've had so many good
- 1:10:53experiences. Watching Pulp Fiction with I
- 1:10:54watch and the scene starts and then we stop and freeze because
- 1:10:57it's fucking so tense. Pulp Fiction is number 1.
- 1:11:00I don't. Know OK, let's bench this.
- 1:11:03Tell me your favorite Tarantino character supporting character.
- 1:11:07You're not gonna like. This supporting.
- 1:11:10It's Fabian. What?
- 1:11:13I love her. Bruce Willis kills somebody and
- 1:11:17he's. He's.
- 1:11:17Listen, listen. Bruce Willis kills somebody.
- 1:11:21He drives home in a cab, he goes to a hotel and he meets his
- 1:11:24girlfriend. He gets into bed.
- 1:11:25He snuggles with her. She talks about the fact that
- 1:11:28she'd love to have her skinny arms and legs in a pot belly.
- 1:11:32She heavily implies that she's pregnant in the scene.
- 1:11:34She's gentle, loving, welcoming him back.
- 1:11:37It's sexual. It's it's like this vibe and
- 1:11:42it's showing us what Bruce Willis is fighting for.
- 1:11:45He killed that guy. He rigged that game.
- 1:11:47He did all this so that he had run away with her because she is
- 1:11:50like this, gentle, loving. Dad's watch is up his ass.
- 1:11:53She's this gentle, loving person in his life and she's worth it.
- 1:11:58Fabian is such a good character. She has a childlike innocence
- 1:12:02about her with a raw sexuality. I love it.
- 1:12:07She's she's the best. Who's your favorite sporting
- 1:12:09character? My favorite supporting character
- 1:12:12is the officer in the basement. We both paid.
- 1:12:18That fucking guy is in the movie for 10 minutes and he's
- 1:12:23terrifying. He reminds me of Matt Nicholson.
- 1:12:26He is terrifying. He sits down, he imposes himself
- 1:12:31on the part, on the drinking. He orders drinks after drink,
- 1:12:35and they're like, OK, we're done, go away.
- 1:12:38But he's like, Nope, I'm not going away.
- 1:12:40I know what's going. On I want to play this game with
- 1:12:43you guys. This game, I want to make you
- 1:12:45feel like you're comfortable and I want you to dread every moment
- 1:12:49of it. Sorry, make you feel
- 1:12:50uncomfortable and make you dread every moment of it.
- 1:12:53Because I know what's going on and I recognize Hugo Stiglitz at
- 1:12:58the table and he's like, none of us are leaving from this
- 1:13:02basement. He fucking sends it to him.
- 1:13:04Like that guy stole the show. He didn't know what was going
- 1:13:09on. He didn't know until the he held
- 1:13:11up the three. Oh yeah, the high glazing.
- 1:13:14He didn't hold up the gem in three.
- 1:13:16We order sleep glasses. That is the German 3.
- 1:13:20He ordered 3. Glasses towards the other looks
- 1:13:24odd. A German wood and did notice
- 1:13:29exactly like he's in it for a few seconds, a few minutes and
- 1:13:33it's like fuck, he almost steals the show from Christoph Waltz.
- 1:13:36Yeah. It's crazy how good he.
- 1:13:39Doesn't steal from Christoph Waltz, but he that scene he's
- 1:13:42fighting. Out in the scenes.
- 1:13:43Fighting against a Michael Fassbender and it's, it's a,
- 1:13:46it's a close fight. And they're both.
- 1:13:49You wanna see the Michael Fassbender?
- 1:13:51Quote might as well go out speaking the language of the
- 1:13:53kings. Yeah, so good.
- 1:13:55It's so good. OK, who's your least favorite
- 1:13:58Tarantino character? So my least favorite is L Driver
- 1:14:03from the kill Bills, the one eyed blonde.
- 1:14:06Oh, really? She is such a cunt and I don't
- 1:14:09say that word lightly. She is.
- 1:14:13She's amazing, yeah, but she's hateful as hell.
- 1:14:17Well that's one thing I noticed about the Kill Bill movies.
- 1:14:20He makes really shitty people as characters because he's in that
- 1:14:24phase of, I guess his career. He's writing really horrible
- 1:14:28people because Miley's favorites in that movie too.
- 1:14:31Who is it? My least favorite character is
- 1:14:33in Kill Bill volume 1 and it's Buck the fucking nurse who
- 1:14:37brings people in and he rapes people in comas that are like
- 1:14:41paralyzed. That's a really, really nasty
- 1:14:45awful. Character and The Dirty ass
- 1:14:47little Vaseline tub he throws the guy.
- 1:14:49Oh yeah, I'm gonna vomit. Why did you bring that up?
- 1:14:53Because it's like, yeah, you not only are you a rapist, but
- 1:14:56you're carrying around this dirty ass little Vaseline tub to
- 1:14:59rape coma victims. His name is Buck and he's here
- 1:15:02to fuck. And Beatrix Kiddo killed the
- 1:15:05shit out of him with a door. Yeah, she gave him brain.
- 1:15:08Damage as she shut. 2 seconds. OK, we're going to flip a coin
- 1:15:13for #1 OK. OK, that's fair.
- 1:15:16OK, we're gonna spin. Dad has a Flip a Coin app.
- 1:15:19That's why you're not gonna hear a coin.
- 1:15:22We're gonna spend the wheel. Sorry.
- 1:15:24Is it has or tails or there? Those two movies are the only
- 1:15:27ones you have on there. It's just the 2 movies.
- 1:15:29OK. Pick a colour.
- 1:15:31Red. Red for pulp.
- 1:15:33Red for pulp. OK, Blue for Inglorious.
- 1:15:36Ready. Yeah, I want to see it, you
- 1:15:39little sketch bag. Yeah, no, it landed on blue.
- 1:15:58That's a bingo. Damn it.
- 1:16:02Honestly it could have gone either way.
- 1:16:05I love both those movies but. I love, I love them both too.
- 1:16:11I'm, I'm, I'm comfortable with having a glorious #1 I just Pulp
- 1:16:16Fiction so. Good, I know it's so good.
- 1:16:18I want to watch both of them right now.
- 1:16:19Paul fiction first. Shouldn't.
- 1:16:22Yeah, first, because we saved the best for the last Gotti.
- 1:16:27OK, go ahead. Read your top 10.
- 1:16:29Read the master list. You ready?
- 1:16:31Am I going one to 10 or 10 to 0 or 10?
- 1:16:33To 1:10 to 1:00. Alright, our master list of
- 1:16:37Tarantino's movies ranked are #10 Once Upon a Time in
- 1:16:42Hollywood #9 Reservoir dogs #8 Death proof #7, Jackie Brown
- 1:16:53Number Six, Django Unchained #5 Hateful 8 #4 Kill Bill Volume 1
- 1:17:01#3 Kill Bill Volume to #2 Pulp Fiction, and #1 Inglorious
- 1:17:09Bastards. The big brains on Mom that is a
- 1:17:15tasty. Burger, Does he look like a
- 1:17:19bitch? Does he look like a bitch?
- 1:17:24Well that was pretty fun. I enjoyed that.
- 1:17:27Go ahead and reach in that bag and get my wallet.
- 1:17:29It's the one that says bad motherfucker on it.
- 1:17:34That's funny. That's fun.
- 1:17:39Yeah, the metrics is Royale with cheese.
- 1:17:43Anyways, that was fun. I like that we that was good and
- 1:17:46I like that our our list was pretty close.
- 1:17:49It wasn't too bad. There was a couple of outliers,
- 1:17:51but it wasn't bad. There was some good compromises.
- 1:17:53I knew you were going to rate Jackie Chan higher or Jackie
- 1:17:56Chan, Jackie Brown higher than me.
- 1:17:59I didn't know you had a Jackie Chan movie.
- 1:18:01And I had a, I had a really strong inclination.
- 1:18:04I, I pretty much knew that you were going to do Inglorious
- 1:18:06Bastards as one. And I knew from the minute we
- 1:18:08talked about this I was going to pull action is #1.
- 1:18:10Really. Yeah, I was flip flopping a
- 1:18:13couple times. I did.
- 1:18:14What did you think I was gonna put for #1?
- 1:18:17I was like, maybe she'll put, I said maybe he'll put Pulp
- 1:18:21Fiction. I was like, maybe you'll put
- 1:18:23Inglorious. But I was like, is she gonna, is
- 1:18:26she gonna do like a zig? And.
- 1:18:29Zig zag and do a kill bill instead.
- 1:18:31Do kill bill or hateful aid just randomly?
- 1:18:34I love Hatefully but it's not his best movie.
- 1:18:36But yeah, I think like I said in the beginning, all those movies
- 1:18:42are great except for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
- 1:18:46Still a good entertainment compared to other.
- 1:18:48Movies. It's a good one time watch.
- 1:18:50Yeah, I can't watch it again. It's so fucking long.
- 1:18:55I agree I I can watch any of this movies again but that one I
- 1:18:57have a hard time. Yeah, it's just really hard to
- 1:19:00watch. I can't.
- 1:19:01Like I can't. Everyone's allowed to have one
- 1:19:04blunder. Yeah, and it happens.
- 1:19:05I mean, you know, we love Christopher Nolan and maybe
- 1:19:09he'll be our another next top 10.
- 1:19:10But who knows? We got to do some Christopher
- 1:19:14Nolan movies though, but we will do a deep dive episode on at
- 1:19:19least one or two Tarantino movies.
- 1:19:22OHT absolutely. We you haven't heard the Last of
- 1:19:24Us with Tarantino's. We just wanted to do an episode
- 1:19:26where we talked briefly about each one and rank them.
- 1:19:29And like I said, probably every 10th episode we're going to do
- 1:19:33something a little bit different just to keep things interested,
- 1:19:36interesting, keep everybody on their toes.
- 1:19:39So so look out for that and we're open to suggestions too.
