- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: And here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: What is going on, Faithful?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: It is absolutely incredible to be with you guys.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Football is on Sundays, and it is absolutely incredible to be with you guys.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is episode 1,696 of the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to our executive producers, David Gill, 49ers George 365, and Cory Robbins.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Today is kind of an evitful day.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: It is the 49ers last open,
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: training camp practice.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Get the day off kind of a light day tomorrow.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Then they have the joint practice and then you got the preseason game Thursday.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: So you are in full swing.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: And this is kind of the de-markation line for the 49ers wrapping up training camp.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: And we learned so stinking much.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: So in today's episode, we're going to be breaking down updated entry ports.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: There's some new additions.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: There's some more positive news.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: There are some negatives.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be going through basically the very last practice report that we're going to have that the beat writers are going to have for this entire season after this beat writers are basically kicked out of practice right after individual special teams, which means you get to watch players warm up, you get to watch them do their alignment period, then you get to watch them do some special teams work.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that's it, then they have to leave and they're not allowed to write things down or report on any of that.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that the kind of peak behind the curtain ends today.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: So we have to go from the tape that we collect through the preseason and man, this is a fun time because we have basically 10 days.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: before roster cutting process starts going from 91 to 53, they used to kind of stagger that out into three cuts and it was one cut then it was two cuts and the three cuts and now it's back down to one.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: And shout out to all the subscribers on the 49ers rush.com in our Patreon, we will be having our annual roster prediction zoom hangout, which is hardest, it's hard.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We get the brain trust together and you could be a part of this if you'd like to.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: We do a zoom hangout, usually takes about a hour and a half.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we get together and we go through and we build our roster how we want it to be and kind of predict and all that stuff and I force you guys to make the tough decisions, how many wide receivers, all that kind of stuff that is going to be taking place after the third preseason game.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: So we're about 10 days.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: We don't have the exact day out for that.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: But if you want to join in on that plus watch all of the coaches tape all 22 in zone you name it.

- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: He was doing all of his kind of normal Nick Bosa off to the side warmups.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're seeing them doing hi-needs, planning, lunches, all these different, you know, calistinics and whatever that you, he kind of does on his own anyway.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: Great sign.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: great sign.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: You are just shy of about a month before week one.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you right now.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think I said this earlier in the week that I was at about 85% confidence.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Bostas is going to be fine.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm bumping it up to 95.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Now hopefully his knee responds correctly, but this was something that they anticipated.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's so Nick Bosta getting the knee issue out of the way
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: that is huge.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: That is some of the best news out there.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to the film clips that were put up from Raj, the legend from RSF.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: Niners, he is the best of the best.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that is the huge big news.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, welcome, just appreciate you guys.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Look at Flynn.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm calling it now, scribbling off its original year.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you believe in that, go bet it.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: The odds are huge.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, if you believe that my bookie dot agey use promo code 490 rs for a free bet back you bet for 15 to 500 dollars Click that opt-in bet back bonus you throw $500 dollars down to Sean Stripley and Ricky the year and if he doesn't hit it you get all 500 bucks back
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: that's up right now with the one time roll over.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about our bets in the year a little bit later.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: What's up captain?
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you guys.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great Sunday.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Joe well.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's out at the gym all the way on the Philippines.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you, man.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are awesome.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: What's up?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: You got sick?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: We got kind of in the house.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: Joe's in the house.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are awesome.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Right here.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Reese, John, you got all your boxes empty, not even close.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: We currently have in laws in town, which is awesome right now.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: So, but it was a perfect break from building furniture and unpacking and trying to figure out what we got to get rid of and whatnot.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, we still got boxes and that ain't got to change.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: I wish it would change, but no, we're not there yet.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: We are a disaster here.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: The Chapman has household.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: John right here is the off center background here to stay.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're moving things around this room.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I used to have my own office.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: now it's office slash guest room.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we have people standing here.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: I've been going to change some of the, you know, set up and all that stuff.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've got new camera.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I've got some new gear, some new lighting, all kinds of stuff.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want to implement.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: I just haven't had time to do it.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, stay tuned on the setup for all those things.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, still not unpacked because I'm.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: I can do it all these shows man.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta do all these all these different things.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this kid.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's what's up man.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're moving from Riverdale, Georgia to winter tomorrow.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: I need this show to help me get through the last round of packing up.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's stressful man.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Deep breaths.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Take breath.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Take breaths.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Take breaks.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: Man, uh, good luck to you.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yotsick, do the zoom hang out.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry Rice tier is worth it.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Do it, do it to it.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Yotsick.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: And man, um, really, really excited about all the things we've got coming up.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this, Kim Pro coming in, huge.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: The generosity oozes from the man, Kim Pro.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for the super chat.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: We really appreciate it.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: So happy we get alive today.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: Love the community.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: Means more to me than I can express.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: Almost didn't have a show today.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: but we rallied and we're getting it put out there and you know there's a lot of good stuff.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to some more of the injury updates.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably the most pertinent information to put out there.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, George Kittle talked at the presser today.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: And any time George Kittle talks, it's kind of noteworthy just because he's crazy man in the best of ways.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the optimism is through the roof.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you let George Kittle talk now coming back from that Achilles injury that happened to January?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, the the kind of main quote or headline that is out there floating the social media landscape is Kittle very confident he will not start on the purpose for Matt Mayoco might fly to Australia.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: He says quote, I have a chance these next couple of weeks
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see there now kiddo was asked about the GPS times and all that stuff he said quote I'm hitting the numbers I'm supposed to hit in quote now I've seen other quotes out there saying oh he's hitting this top speeds and whatever else before the injury I didn't hear him say that that might have been an interview after the fact there are some amazing 49er speed reporters I'm only quoting what I heard in saw I'm hitting the numbers I'm
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, numbers to get too ready is he hitting pre numbers.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm seeing some different quotes out there.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going with what I heard out of the mouth of George Kittle himself.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought it was also interesting the weight.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: This offseason, if you followed the George Kittle public appearances, he looks like.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: He looks really like.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Looks small.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: He addressed that awesome question from the cruiser.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: He said, you know, what plane weight are you at?
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Are you trying to get lighter?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: What's that look like?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: George Kittle said I'm 245 right now.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, what does that mean?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Kittle went into his rookie area way to 60.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: His sophomore year, he weighed 250.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Since then, he's played at 240.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's at 245 right now.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's really, really good sign.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: And probably the biggest thing that I took away from the entire George Kittle thing, I still don't think that he will be traveling to Australia.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that he's not back practicing and in pads and all that stuff, you're about three and a half weeks out.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got that huge 10 11 day swing after week one and back home to you want George kid on an airplane for 35 hours, I'm just not buying into that.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think kiddo stays home.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you place week one, but the biggest shift that I have in number 85 is just that, hey, if he doesn't go on pup, that means he's not missing the first four weeks.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: You mean to tell me George kiddo has a chance to play week three, week four, week
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking that all day, a kill Lee's usually nine months, he's 32 years old.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Now the updates that keep coming out is that George Kittle, a high Achilles and the doctors and all this stuff, I've seen them work out, I've seen them practice in person, I've seen the cameras.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's pretty gingerly walk it around, but at the end of his workouts, looks George Kittle-esque.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: The first part of his workouts in routine pretty stiff, pretty rigid, but the blusher and looser it gets, man, credit to Raj, you know, I'm out there at practice and I'm recording George Kittle working out and then I'm like paying attention to other stuff because, you know, I got ADHD or whatever you want to call it and I'm just like, I'm starting to
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: George Kittle, that's the thing to kind of take away getting closer, getting closer, no major setbacks.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that is great news.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think you'll play week one?
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I do not.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Do I think George Kittles going to be on the pump?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm leaning no for the first time.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: This entire off season.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really am.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: That is a positive, hopefully no setbacks, not gonna wood, whatever you wanna do there.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's huge.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, look at this, man, people, yeah, what's, congrats on the first live show ever, Reese, love this community and show that is huge.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the pillars of the 49ers rush podcast.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was supposed to be like education, to make the fan experience better.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't understand through probably year three when we started hosting events just by happenstance.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: that there were such a strong communal aspect to what we do here.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so, Reese, just seeing stuff like this, means the world to me.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so, yeah, the thing is the connections and the relationships that get built through this crazy show.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: That is the 49er's research podcast.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: So thankful.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I'm looking at in this chat and I'm just seeing amazing friendships that have been built just from, you know, I'm on the benefiting side.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: My man, yachts, my man Shane, my man Joe L. Like I know these people.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: I know these people and I hope to get to know you too.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope you get to come out to some of our road trips and if not, that's okay.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you see me out of 40 dinners game, I don't give a damn what I am doing.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: If I am interviewing Joe Montana.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: come up and say hi, you are more important than Joe Montana is to be.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that just though like whatever, Joe Montana will pay my bills.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't keep, you know, my family fed you guys do.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: It is my opportunity to say thank you guys like Ben and are you kidding me?
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Big fish.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think both of us will play full season.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: How many times has Nick Bosa even played a full season?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think of the new NFL.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you project it.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Anybody to play all 17 games?
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: It just does it make sense.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Bosa has played every game in a season twice.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: 2021 and 2023.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting?
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: 222 he did not play every single game and he won defense player the year and you go back to deon sanders is nineteen ninety four camping he missed three games still defense player the year the impact that Nick Bolsa has and I will stand by this when Nick Bolsa plays the forty nighters are in the lead team not defense team he is one of the best in the business he's definitely no matter anyway he splies
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: He is the best two way defensive in what I mean best first run game best first pass game.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's better against the run game than the past game.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: And this is somebody with 64 and a half sacks, he's going to be a all-time 49ers leader and says he's going to pass Brian young.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is happening.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: I bet the farm on that.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: And again, you look at.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, Nick both hasn't even turned 29 yet.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: But if you told me you get 14 games out of Bosa, dude, I'm in.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: anything more than that with almost any player injuries are a major major major issue, not not just for the 49ers and I know like we bring up how injury riddled the 49ers are all the damn time, but man like.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: You look at how many players, okay?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I just pulled up last year, last season, the 20, 26, 49ers.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: This is how many players played all 17 games.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is just the regular season.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Seven players.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Here are their names.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: Colleanne Davis, he y'all.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: Juice, demo, CMC, Coltabakivets, Dominic Pony, D-Winners, D-Winners going.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: And we talk about guys like, okay, Dominic Pony, Christian Bikafri, Kyle Yushik, three guys that didn't miss one game last year, guess what, those three guys have a comment.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're injured right now.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: The NFL, especially the 49ers, has a 100% entry rate.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a matter of if it's win.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: It is win.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: So again, you're talking about seven players out of 53 that played every game last year.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Even our kickers get hurt, man.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like football is, and I'm not saying, you're not saying this big fish, by the way.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Love the AVI, solid.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anybody projects for everybody to play every game or anybody to play every game.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's why you have backups.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's why there's 53 men on the roster despite only 22 players starting, right?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever you look at that, it's just like, man, you've got to understand.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, they're gonna miss time.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, they're gonna miss time.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: And that's okay, that's okay.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you guys, you guys are awesome.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: Crazy juice, it's good to see the rookies and back up in the preseason, but I care more about the regular season as we all do.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you got to go with what you're given.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: In the fact that we can get all these reps, a lot of these guys that are playing in the preseason, you don't get to see them again until next year.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if injuries do happen, then sure, you'll see the twos and threes out there, but like that's our job, right?
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like to prepare you for the future.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: And so whenever you're seeing guys like Bryson Esen and you're seeing guys like Jacob Robinson and you're seeing these guys
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Just wait.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: We used to do the same day for Tatum Bethan right until last year and then guess what all right now.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: You got to worry about him.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Did the same thing for Colton McKibitz whenever he was a backup and cut.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's a perennial.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: Start it all 17.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he started 51 games in a row by the way.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: You Colton McKibitz haters out there.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: What's that group is getting smaller and smaller by the day.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: 51 straight starts for cold to be kids.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: That is as close to an NFL Ironman in today's modern age as you guys could get man.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love it.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you guys.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: What's up Nick?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: You are the freaking man.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: You are awesome.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, look at this, Brian coming in.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: Haven't been able to catch a live in a while, but happy to be here.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's about time I upgrade.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so stuck in my ways.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: I am so stuck in my ways, now, here are some negatives, Nick, go Grace and Halton.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to the negatives of the injuries.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: What's there?
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's one more positive trade green law back in pads.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: That is a huge positive.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Grace and Halton did not practice days.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's got an ankle to Marcus Robinson undisclosed injury.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Not sure what's going on there.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Dominique Pony again, another one of those guys.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: 17 games played last year.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's out with the concussion.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: had a couple of shakeups today.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: CJ West and Titus Leo shaken up did not return to practice.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Did he did have two wide receivers.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Debo and Jacob Cowen shaken up both returned to practice today.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: So not overly concerned with Debo, Jacob Cowen, but CJ West Titus Leo.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously CJ West's gonna play a larger role, but Grace and Houghton, rookie, phenom, after his first, I don't know if you want to go that far, but bad ass game, you know, it's first time out there, shaking up with an ankle, which was it from yesterday, I don't believe, I don't know, they didn't really.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: dive too much in there.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so we'll see there.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Shane, don't let George get on the plane.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Don't let them get on the plane.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there we go.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that's what it is.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I like that.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right here, crazy juice.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: If kiddo isn't 100% then he shouldn't play a greed, agreed, agreed, you need George
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: Ron Burgundy, don't need him for September.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: Don't need him for September.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: Look at Yotsick, man.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: My freaking PR stud right here.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies and gentlemen, the video breakdowns are priceless.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: Learn so much from them.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: Please support Jc's effort and reward his nuts.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: I have to cut Yotsick to check as my promotional guy.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate it, brother.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: You are.

- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: I could totally see this year being like four to five players getting 700 yards.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like I could see that where you got my Kevin's, got Christian B. Kaffrey, D. Boe's gonna be involved in that, right?
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, George Kittle, like I could see
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: not to where you got a like a number one thousand twelve hundred yard guy because I do think Mike Evans is going to miss some time.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Christian McCaffrey is going to miss some time.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: I do think kiddo you know I think there's going to be some you're getting longer aged veterans at the skill position play like I think yeah there's going to be injuries there but I would bet Mike Evans he definitely has the highest projection there.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there's a lot of candidates, would anybody at this point be shocked if to Sean Stribbling leads the 49ers and receiving yards?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I know when they drafted and were like, well, he'll learn behind Mike Evans and, you know, rotate in.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: But Christian Kurt goes down very first practice, Sean Stribbling.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at Kubiax press conference, which I really,
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, at today's presser after practice, he said quote, Stribbling has a lot to learn from that game.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Things need to keep working on alignment.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love that and I used to tell my players this like, man, tapes never as good or as bad as you think I definitely didn't come up with that.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: There is ways I could and I would tell him like, look, dude, if I am harping on you and correcting you.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's because I think you can get better.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: When I quit challenging you and addressing you,
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're toped out and I don't think what I say matters to you anymore.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: And for certain people, they didn't really care.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to be there.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: My best players, my captains, you get it the hardest.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I would tell my captains this, I'm going to go after you pretty damn hard stay in the film room.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: So you need to have some tough ass skin because it's not going to be nice.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: And the reason why I'm doing it is so everybody else knows just because you were the MVP and scored three touchdowns.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: You can improve.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: You ain't there yet.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: You ain't there yet.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: This high school football.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: You've got a ways to go, and if I'm Kubiak, I'm doing the same thing.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's asked about dribbling, who freaking was awesome.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: I still got a lot to learn from that game.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to work on a lot of stuff, including alignment.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Details, they matter, dribbling is awesome.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I love the fact that you go out there and you're just like, yeah, you ain't there yet, big talk.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot more left.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot more meat on that bone.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to be in that situation, you want to get to where you want to go and you want to lead this team in receiving.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, line up right.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're making your job harder by not condensing the splits down enough because that gives you a two-way release on the outside and inside.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're making it harder on the corner.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: You wind up too wide, you're not doing that.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's different situations in the alignment and consistency matters, especially for the quarterbacks.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: That is where it's used.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: The timing matters.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: The pressure it puts on the line packers and safety matters.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: Do they have to pay attention to you a little bit more?
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Or can they look at the uncovered guard more for their run-pass key?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: All of the minutia?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I've said this so many times, the 49ers Kyle Shanahan system is the most difficult for wide receivers.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is why so many wide receivers go in the dog house for Kyle Shanahan.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's the easiest for offensive lineman.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is the most adaptable for quarterbacks.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's why everybody wants to hire the Shanahan tree guys because quarterbacks flourish in the system better.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: do with that, what you may now, if you want to be a part of our community, you want to come party with us, man, any 49ers road game plus we are throwing a home game exclusive week to Miami Dolphins.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: We're throwing a tailgate.

- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: Vorrow Bowman, Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, Fred Warner, are all players that we have worked with in the past.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: It trusts me.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: We got you covered 49ers
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll look at this kibbro saying it'll be there week two the home game if it goes well we'll add more but right now we're just you know pinned pinned in for one home game tailgate if it goes really really well we'll add more so we're just going to try and try and see how it goes we're always looking to expand because that's the thing you know we were doing those home tailgates for so long and it was awesome and then we stopped it I get all these emails are you doing this game or you do I'm coming to town this game like we're looking for somewhere
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: I try to point people in the right direction so they can be a part of a community somewhere.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I'm open.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'll come on out.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Look at Sir Kaiser.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be the Dallas Game.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: That Dallas Game is going to be crazy.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Crazy.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive into the practice report.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's hear what happened today in pads.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going from a number of amazing reporters from the 49ers, including new addition.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this Enrique Zarrate.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: He is part of the Spanish peaking community and started Spanish 49ers podcast.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love that.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: I've never met this man, I don't care.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: I just love his, what he's doing, Nick Wagner.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: We got barrows, we got rods from RSF.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: We got so many guys, so many sources.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: I went out there, I was family time in it.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, let's dive in.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right out the bat, shout out to Nick Wagner, who has been one of the guys that, you know, probably writes the most extensive practice reports on social media for sure for ESPN.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of detailed and wreakacruises struggles and man.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: I walked away from the preseason tape game one, just thinking like, Golly guys, like, I don't know if this guy's going to be an NFL player in the next couple of years.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: It was pretty bad take consistently, bad in the run, bad in the past, happy feet, bad balance, bad technique, dudes getting owned in one on one day and day out.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Nick Wagner said he had his best day yet.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was playing against somebody else and seeing the tape and just being like, yeah, that sucks.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: But love to see just that he's elevating in any type of positive way mentioned with, you know, Enrique Cruz like you got to take that because the students of fifth round pick just has not done well.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: so far, it's early.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully NFL careers are not written off or summarized after one month of practice and one preseason game, thank God, but you used the information you have and you move forth.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: Also, Alfred Collins, another guy that is just getting right through the mud, he got his very first reps in one view once today.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't even done that.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he practiced trying to get back and shape tape was not good.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it was near as bad as everybody said it was, but he did have three reps that were just, oh, really, really, really bad.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, and I've said this, like, people are praising Sebastian Valdes and major stock up.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: The worst rep that anybody had, off its defense special teams was probably Sebastian Valdes, where he got driven 15, 14 yards off the ball.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like that didn't happen to Alfred Collins.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and so like it's kind of weird, the place that get picked up and cycle through social media, people say, ah, terrible, best, and that's kind of the new day and age, right?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: Where somebody is either the greatest ever, the goat or their trash.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: And there's no way in between.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just agree with that.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Alfred Collins getting his very first 1v1's reps since coming back from his soldier shoulder injury.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we saw Alfred Collins struggle coming back from injury from his draft last year.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: It takes him a while to ramp up.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Makes sense with the biggest dude on the team.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: Was the take good?
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, it was not.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean we quit?
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean that he should be guaranteed to start a spot?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, it does not.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that he ain't there now.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's not where he should be now.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, now Carver Willis struggled in one of our V1s.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: This from Nick Wagner again, first Sebastian Valdez.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis awesome.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: Run game.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Pass broke up.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Better throughout the game.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Still really bad.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: Still really bad.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: really bad.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Quarterback talk, Brock Perti went 12 of 17 today from Wagner and Barrow's cited, man, deep ball completions to Debo, Mike Evans, Mlee Turner, and Jacob Cowling, lot of deep plays.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I saw from several different people, Jacob Cowling, who is back at practice, look at notorious.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob Cowling, looking like you might actually make this team.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: I am struggling.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Defending what I saw in my own two eyes about Jacob Cowling, I still think he is making this team.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that he had a pretty good day today.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: In Ricky's rotate said Cowling beats Stout twice in team drill.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Anybody that can get any win off of Stout.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations, bro, because that dude, I'm telling you right now.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's the closest thing you're going to get to all pro in that defensive second dairy.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I would put him over Diomedor the North.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's just going to take him a little bit more time to get to know.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: But D most of the number one guy.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that in a demo from all intents to purpose had another great camp.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: Another great practice.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: D most been great.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: But the ceiling play on ups and stout.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you right now through the roof.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: But counting beat him not once but twice.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Brock party hits dribbling on a deep crosser for a touchdown, and Ross from RSF, dribbling having another excellent day that is huge.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: Stout cut a pass break up against, uh, dribbling from Brock and red zone drills in the back of the end zone seemed like a big play, uh, Matt Jones, um, little bit of a slow ramp up.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: to training camp, but he has finished with several stacking great days, several days in a row after a slow start when 16 of 19 says Matt Peros.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: Really strong red zone day has touchdowns to Pauling, Grimes and Belief Turner, kind of a testament to, you know, Brock Perti, he's throw it to Mike Evans, dribbling all these guys, Matt Jones, East throwing touchdowns to Pauling, Grimes and Belief Turner.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit different.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: little bit different.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: But the quarterback seemed to be doing pretty good.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Montana, what's up, man?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so much fun.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: And John's team was so great at the indie game.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: So sad it's not working this year.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: Waves to the crew.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're not going to be back in Andy.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: But that was a fun time.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was freezing cold though.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: But that stadium was awesome, man.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really enjoyed that.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: That was a good time.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was awesome, making out.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully enjoyed everything.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of other press past practice notes.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: Marky Seagull had a pass break-up verse Cowan deep.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like to see that.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Making place.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Cowan is always where he needs to be.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's always jotting on the spot.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's just can he make the plays.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Getting a pass break-up verse Cowan deep.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: You want counting to be the deep guy.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's where you want him to be.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: That four, three speed on the back side.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Did he learn from getting bench?
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Did he learn from losing his job?
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: First, priest's in game was fine.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, didn't make a lot of plays.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't get beat.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought overall, like the confidence level in Seagull as that starting safety increased, still biggest concern in the room.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: And like the the entire roster, left guard, safety, tight end of kiddles out.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's the the Bermuda Triangle.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: for the 49ers.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the ones you got to watch out for.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans, Pete Renardo Green several times.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: And this was interesting.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Wagner talked about.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're not a green drew a holding call against Evan's twice.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then Renardo Green against Evan's gets a pass break up, clean play, turn around and stare down the official, as if to say this is Nick Wagner's words.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: Where's the flag this time?
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I love salty, Renardo Green.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: I love salty defense of backs.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do, like who you wanna be salty to, though, that I think that that matters.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Salted to rest, yeah.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: Salted to the public, yeah.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Salted to the other team, yeah.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: salty against your own former coaches.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, number 27.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at you.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's a direct.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's a place to place.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's a place to put the saltiness.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: Your own coachy staff ain't it.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I like Renato Green.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: I love Timo talking trash at all these, you know, wide receivers.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a great thing.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Jones getting some chances at
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Walkins is an awesome wide receiver when you're throwing him the ball on targeting him.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: Outside of that, not a Jordan Walkins guy.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: He was horrible at point return.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was even worse at kickoff return.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't make one positive block the entire time.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: He played in men.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: How many snaps?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: did he play where's he at Jordan Walkins played 58 snaps he had 19 run blocks snaps had a 42 grade one of the lowest of the team so like if you're going to throw the ball to Jordan Walkins I like them if you're not going to target him like that's the issue
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Right here, Ben, Connor Colby was much better in the game than some of the tastes.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: I still have him starting at left guard and I'll strike you.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: He took those first team reps today at left guard, Robert Jones took the first team reps that right guard today with Dominique Pune coming off a concussion.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Connor Colby had two major bad snaps where he missed a stunt and a blitz outside that pretty consistent.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the problem is these are the exact same mistakes Connor Colby made whenever he started the first seven games of the season last year.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: You want to see him overcome that.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: You want to see him progress through that.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: Those inconsistency, you've got to think, that is a free blitzer that's going to destroy Brock Perti.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you look at Robert Jones, Gottlieb, he was terrible.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I would completely remove Robert Jones from the left guard.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: It would just be Connor Colby, Vers, Carver Willis, if you want throwin' Austin Pleasant's cool, Brett Tauth when there he comes back cool.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: Robert Jones showed me you are back up at best.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: How much of that's a rust after retiring and taking a year off, but like I saw what I needed to see to move on from Robert Jones.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, yeah, I'm good.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I am good.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: Steffin what's most office timeline hamstrings are usually four to eight weeks.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: Things about three weeks into that.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: You will start to get reports of mallet and stuff a warming up on the sideline and working with trainers on the side, you will still get those reports from beat reporters and so once you get that probably a week to 10 days after that he'll be practicing.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: So that so we're still 10 days out like you're still a week out till mallet gets out there.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: I could not see.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't see.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: how that dude is going to walk back into starting gig after missing all of training games all of it.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: He practiced his first couple days and was with the two's mostly, and I'm not writing enough, mallet Mustafa for this season or for the rest of his career was not a Jerry Grey guy, was not a Rahim Morris guy.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: And man, the inconsistencies last year on tape were really bad, really, really bad.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: The upsides there.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: But, and I'll go back to this.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh man, I wrote this down.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I got this in my notes somewhere.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, right here.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: Kubeyak today.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is my quote of the day.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Was asked about the left guard spot.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of word salad.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: These three guys, your open competition, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, as a former coach, which is the approach in which I take all of this and how I watch and evaluate tape, it's consistency.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want too positive to negative place.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'd rather have four consistent place.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, not necessarily all got to be home runs.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they obviously everybody would take that genre, duh.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: But you're looking for consistency.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: Malignant soft is not consistent.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, Connor Colby's not consistent.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis might be the least consistent.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: The upside's so damn good though in the run game.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like what is it that, like I want guys that are consistently getting the damn job done without negatives.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'd take five, 50, 50 plays over.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: three positives and two negatives.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the integers and whatever and you're like, well, actually, that's three major positives.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: The only two negatives.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, that is not the way the NFL works.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: You have to eliminate the negatives and consistency is there.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to have home run place all the time.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: You don't.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: You don't invade or write here, Pauline overcalling.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: will Pauline's preseason game, which is his first game in the NFL, was worse than any game we've ever seen of Cowan in his career.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: Preseason, regular season, and now you can say, well, Cowan has a play in the year.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: That is fair.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: We'll Pauline's sucked.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: He was awful.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: I like we'll Pauline.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's been great in training camp.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: Three catches, three point returns, three cookoff returns, not one positive play, not one.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: Not one broken tackle not one anything failed by the turf twice before even make content like I'm not saying we'll Paul ain't can't be better than counting.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying coming off that preseason game Pauling was god awful.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would be willing to say maybe the worst performance of any 49ers player That's who did up but doesn't mean he's not better than counting counting it's a little bit of a fan some
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: a little bit of a fan, but he's still taking reps with one and brought party all the time.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Willis greater than Colby.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: That was not shown on the date.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Willis will be way better than Colby.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying, Carver Willis and a half said, which I respect and Vader football opinion.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's up there, baby.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: You, you, you, but disagreements are great.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I would be willing to say that more people agree with you that Willis is greater than Colby.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: consistently, not even close.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Two negative plays for Connor Colby, man.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: I counted the plays earlier, Carver Willis.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: He played 33 plays.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'd probably say 10 negatives.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe more.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe more.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: Um, multiple sacks, multiple quarterback hits, they didn't even attribute to him when they should have, um, yeah, uh, right here, uh, Nate, who did that to white Clark had again, infiltrator shop.com.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: If you just type in infiltrator, Dwight Clark hat, it will pull up.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: Um, right here, Stephen, how does Kobe still miss stunts?
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: hasn't he worked on that the problem is he over commits so whenever a player crosses your face and you're a guard or an interior line, or really any tackles you have to do this too.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: You get your pre-snap count, right?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you count from center out, oh, one, two, three, whatever.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, very simple.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: And so like you go into the play at the snap, understanding I've got number two, I've got number one, whatever.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: However, you count them.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: There's two defensive line on your side.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: You usually count 01, too.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: So like if there's two, it's 01, one.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Center takes, oh, depending on the fan call, because if there's more guys to the left side that are immediate threats, then it's gonna be, you know, a blue call, block, left for the center.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: So the center fans left or a red call, you've fan to the right or a brown call, block, right?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: If there's more guys to the right side, right?
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: So you know who you're supposed to block.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: at the snap of the ball.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: So let's just say, and this is probably pretty typical, Connor Colby is playing left guard.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a block number one, zero.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: Center's gonna take, he's gonna take one, okay?
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: Which is the second guy, but it's one in the counting scheme.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so what happens is, one crosses his face and shoots to the inside eight gap.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Connor Colby will heal over commit.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: to that guy going through the A-gap and where he struggles is he doesn't keep his eyes on the outside B-gap.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: He will over, if the guy crosses his face to the A-gap and he'll wash down and his eyes and hands go with that A-gap pressure player now.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: But then the defensive tackle from the other side loops around and comes through that B-gap
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't see it or he sees it late, he doesn't get to redirect for those of you that are with us for our draft coverage.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's why I talk about sudden redirection for guards.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: You got to have that, you got to be able to anchor.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be able to redirect.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the two days that make you a guard over a tackle.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can get in trades and speed and whatever else.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Don't care, if you can't anchor,
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: and if you can't redirect, you can't play guard.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do it.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: The redirect is where Connor Colby struggles and misses on these stunts, where the guy crosses your face.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, cool, use your hands, wash them down, pass them off to your center, keep your eyes open because somebody's gonna replace same thing you do with corners.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're outside and the wide receiver cuts in.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what, get your eyes ready, somebody's gonna replace them in the flats on the other side.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: Just because somebody commits, doesn't mean they're not gonna replace that.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're not gonna leave that gap open.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: his head's not on a swivel now one of the two things I said that a guard has to be able to do.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: You got to anchor or redirect.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis can't anchor to save us life.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: So you have these two imperfect guards competing.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: I do not think either one of which qualify as a starting caliber guard at this current state not even close.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: Niners don't care about the guard position.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: They really don't.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: You got a fourth rounder competing with the seventh rounder,
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: is what you get.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is Chris Forester's entire MO philosophy on offensive line play.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: Give me guys just write that average and we can make it work.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Again, what are the two easiest positions in the college and hand offense offensive line and quarterback?
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: That is what it helps the most.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: That is why you think a seventh rounder in a fourth rounder can just battle it out and make it work.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: Both guys have major flaws in their game at current.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean Connor Colby will never redirect?
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, does that mean Carver Willis will never anchor?
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: But this is also why I think Carver Willis is the long term center.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because one, you don't have to anchor as much at center.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: John, why don't you have to anchor as much as center?
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you get a shade that one technique on the outside shade of the center, either side,
- 45:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's so you get help.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: When you are a garden, you have a three technique on you, 50% of the time outside shady fence attack will, you are one V1, you verse him.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: As a center, you almost always get help to the defensive tackle side.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, all that to say, neither Carver Willis nor Connor Colby are ready or full type guard players.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not there.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Stephens says, well, how do you work on the consistency?
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: Is it a focus issue?
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit more for Connor Colby is a focus issue.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis is a technique issue.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: No post steps, no anchor steps at all for him and watch and tape.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: You just see him just get pushed right back.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: You saw it in his tape at Washington.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Never really had to anchor.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: Got to in the NFL, just not there.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: I ain't even going to show that comment, uh, y'all sick.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love you, man.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and yeah, right here, it been, you know, it works so much football without football.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he works hard, but it's probably a couple of gets, yeah, you can't replicate it.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: Got to have full pads on to work this.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do it just in short and shirts.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: Got to have full pads on.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: Only so many full pad practices.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: They'll get there.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: They'll get there.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, uh, man, I love the chat just going freaking hard.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the got to keep your head on a swivel man.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be ready to leave everything then 30 30 seconds right nothing.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: You can't have it.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: I know that's the other guy in the movie didn't erope, but still that's what I thought about.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, did I get the, did I get the movie wrong?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: What movie is that?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: Puccino.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's, that's, that's heat, right?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's heat.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure I'm right.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: You guys gotta tell me if I'm wrong.

- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we got we got some differing answers for the head on the swivel guy.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yotsick says heat, shade says any given subday.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: Invader is the band says little giants.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely not little giants.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a given Sunday.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: Shane has referenced this movie around me many of times.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to climb out of hell.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: Want to chat at time.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's any given Sunday.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: I could do some confirmation on that.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: if he gets help.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: Again, what is like Jake Brindell?
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: Make sure to say it right.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Brindell.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: is an undrafted free agent that took years and years of development to become serviceable and he is good like he's not a bad like he's a blow-average serviceable center and probably around 20th.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: The problem with Brindle is he has no functional strength whatsoever.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: He is very athletic one of the most athletic centers.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: Very smart.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: Dude could be an attorney if he wanted to be after going through UCLA and all that stuff.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: Probably will be an attorney afterwards.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: So he's really smart, really athletic.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: he can't push anybody.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: He cannot move anybody against their will.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: He is a finesse sinner and that is why the run game struggles so much.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's so you take these guys.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: You could coach Connor Colby to redirect.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: You could coach Carver Willis to anchor better.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_01]: Neither one of which are where they are.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Neither one of which are where they are.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and right here, Jake Brindell, somebody we've never overpaid.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: You're getting what you pay for.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: I agree completely.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's the 18th highest paid center on a per year average and you're getting that.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're going to pay top in money at left tackle, you're going to pay top in money at right tackle, you're going to be cheap elsewhere.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_01]: They chose to go cheap center.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: I want Carver Willis to be the guy.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want Carver Willis to be the long term guy at center.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what that is.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what that is.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: Couple other notes, D-Bo.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Barrel said, Debo, maybe his best practice so far, which is, say it a lot, Raj from RSF, Debo Samuel is coming to training camp on another level doing everything that team has for, and I've been to training camps where Debo was the best player, offensively.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: You go three years ago, Debo was the guy.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: Him and Joanne Jennings were having the training camp of their lives.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: Both of them had career years.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: the way you practice matters.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I tell my players this all the time.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, you always get high schoolers, you know, whatever, like, all I'll just wait till I get to college and I'll try.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't really care about grades.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: Once I get to college, do you know what the number one most predictor for college GPA is?
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's high school GPA.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, everybody says, oh, well, whatever, I get older, I'll start saving, right?
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: Or Ben, we talk about practice.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, whatever, I get in the game, then, no, no, that is not the way the world in humans work.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: There you go, Joe, well, practice how you play.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the only guy that's a little bit different is probably to real looter.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: That dude sucks in practice, always has.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: Play's pretty good in rare season games.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: Some guys just start practice, guys.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: Connor Colby is what we see and practice in in the games.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: Carver Willis is now and it's only been a one game sample size is what we see in practice.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: And what we have seen in a game singular, we have to see there, we have to see there.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, this has been an absolute pleasure.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully y'all enjoyed today's show.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: I know we got off on some tangents.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, dude, I got, I got chats over here that I have not got to.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: notorious what's up man appreciate you debo gonna be more of a gadget guy this year i don't see him getting a load of targets dude he's out there with the ones almost every time those wide receivers come out there now will that change with christian Kirk will that change with the shunt dribbling or jake of cowling i want debo plane i just want to play in less is wide receiver i want them out there kickoff return every single time
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: If Jacob Cowling is the punt returner, I'm okay with Cowling being back there for safe punt return, Debo back there for, you know, your exotic punt return or, you know, big play punt return, which means if a team is punting within the 40, then you want your safe return because it's probably going to be a fair catch.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: But if they're punting,
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: behind the 40, then I want to be about there because there's going to be a chance for return.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob Cowling, again, feel like I'll go back to this.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: Dude was an NFL punt returner as a rookie, the entire season and never one turnover.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: That has value to me.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: A ridiculous amount of value.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was pissed off that Jacob Cowling was.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe in rookie punt returners.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't, that's a philosophical thing.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, ah, I don't want that.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: That is huge.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: I want Debo as a wide back.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: I want Debo as a Gadget guy and offense.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: I want Debo as a kick returner.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: I want Debo as a punt returner half time.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I want.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now, obviously, it'll get some catches.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd be happy if you told me, Debo got 30 catches this year as a wide receiver.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: More, more of those catches out of the backfield.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like that.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: I would like that.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right here, Stefan, would you try for Ronnie Hickman?
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: What would you offer?
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: Ronnie Hickman, a undratch of free agent, safety for the Browns.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not the biggest Ronnie Hickman guy, but I can't tell you honestly that I've gone through his tape.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: I know last year was his first four year starting.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: Teams aren't trading starter safeties.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: The Browns are just so damn weird.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: And he's young.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: Browns have so many young guys.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I want another young safety.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: If three young safety's in this room already, I want a vet safety if I'm trading for a safety.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: I want a vet safety.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what more young guys.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: Shane, what's up with James?
- 55:23[SPEAKER_01]: Still out with fractured ribs, damn.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's problematic.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: James needs to get some reps. Kailum black needs to get some reps. And now that you have the joint practice literally two days from now, it's like, dude, missed all those reps. Shame, shame, shame.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: Shame, shame, shame.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: But they need to get out there.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_01]: They need to get out there.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, yeah, right here, strawberry.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: If the way you practice matters, Brock is winning MVP.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: The ideas of Brock Party just taking what's given to them are a thing of the past for better or worse.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care what your idea of a quarterback is.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you right now Brock Party is a deep throwing quarterback from here on out.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just what you're going to get.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: So if you like it, great.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't, just know you're gonna be frustrated this year.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: Cause Brock is going to play greedy.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: He is throwing the ball deep.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: He is pressing vertical.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: He is going for big plays.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_01]: Whoo!
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: love me some brought perity baby.
