- 0:45Speaker 2: Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Matters. Renew your mind,
- 0:50Speaker 2: Renew your life. Super excited to have the Lady's version.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I've decided. You know, there is a pink and a
- 1:00Speaker 2: blue thing going on. Some may call it mental health,
- 1:05Speaker 2: but Jesus said, haven't you read from the beginning? God
- 1:09Speaker 2: made them male and female, And then doctor Emerson Engridge
- 1:13Speaker 2: said he is not wrong, just different. So if I
- 1:18Speaker 2: had a nickel for every time a guy told me
- 1:21Speaker 2: that a woman was crazy or vice versa, you'd be crazy.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's a whole mental health topic that just came to
- 1:29Speaker 2: me as we started this show. So I could be crazy.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I've been crazy?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Is that word in our organization?
- 1:41Speaker 4: Here? I'm calling everything crazy.
- 1:46Speaker 2: That's funny. That's funny. So maybe a quick little intro
- 1:50Speaker 2: for newer viewers. This is episode fifteen. We'll start with Shelby,
- 1:55Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about yourself and why maybe
- 1:58Speaker 2: God even put on your heart to be of our
- 2:00Speaker 2: little panel and some of these discussions at least once
- 2:03Speaker 2: a month, you can join in, right sure.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm Shelby Coley. I'm a a marriage and family
- 2:09Speaker 5: therapist with New Creations Christian Counseling here in Farmington and Mexico,
- 2:14Speaker 5: and we are a mental health agency.
- 2:17Speaker 4: We have a lot of different programs going. We have individual, family,
- 2:22Speaker 4: couples counseling of various kinds. We do a lot of AMDR,
- 2:28Speaker 4: which is a trauma therapy. Most almost all of our
- 2:31Speaker 4: therapists are trained in AMDR. And then we do intensive
- 2:35Speaker 4: outpatient programs, which has a lot to do with substance use.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It's intensive, as the name would suggest, a lot of
- 2:44Speaker 4: hours a week for mental health and substance use. So
- 2:47Speaker 4: we do both of those, and then we also do
- 2:50Speaker 4: some case management.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Type services for some of our community members too.
- 2:56Speaker 4: And so yeah, I think it's just really cool to
- 3:03Speaker 4: be a part of this podcast because everyone has.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Mental health is very much being talked about and like
- 3:12Speaker 3: different perspectives on it and how to go about things
- 3:15Speaker 3: such as self care and our relationships and what to
- 3:18Speaker 3: do with anxiety and how to cope.
- 3:20Speaker 5: And I think everyone loves to talk about mental health,
- 3:23Speaker 5: which is great, but I think being able to do
- 3:26Speaker 5: it within the context of how God would has designed
- 3:31Speaker 5: us and how he would have us steward our mental health,
- 3:34Speaker 5: I think is really important to kind of get a
- 3:37Speaker 5: voice out there on mental health in.
- 3:40Speaker 3: In the context of.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, to be a part of it, that's good. Yeah, Trudy.
- 3:50Speaker 6: Well, Hey, I'm doctor Trudy. I'm in Atlanta and I
- 3:53Speaker 6: have my own I have a practice here in Atlanta.
- 3:55Speaker 2: We do marriage and family, we do.
- 3:58Speaker 6: Trauma, we do transformation, inter healing, and we also do
- 4:03Speaker 6: you know, coaching, lifestyle coaching. And I just love because
- 4:07Speaker 6: you know, I struggled for years with mental health, depression, anxiety, doubt, unbelief,
- 4:13Speaker 6: and so when the Lord did his work in me,
- 4:15Speaker 6: or I allowed him to do the work in me,
- 4:16Speaker 6: I'm like, Okay, Lord, I just want to be a
- 4:18Speaker 6: vessel for healing because the world is hurting. They say
- 4:22Speaker 6: ninety five percent of the people walk around wearing a
- 4:24Speaker 6: mask because they're afraid to be real. And the only
- 4:27Speaker 6: way to get healed is to be real, to find
- 4:29Speaker 6: someone that you can trust so that you can dig
- 4:31Speaker 6: deep and walk in that truth. Because the enemy, for me,
- 4:36Speaker 6: had me believing lies for so long and that's what
- 4:39Speaker 6: kept me in bondage. So I'd love being able to
- 4:42Speaker 6: help people see the truth of who they are, the
- 4:44Speaker 6: truth of their trauma, the truth of their grief, so
- 4:46Speaker 6: that they can walk in freedom. So I'm just thankful
- 4:50Speaker 6: Pastor Chuck that you allow us to be on your platform.
- 4:53Speaker 2: So yeah, well, you know we said on an Overcomers
- 4:58Speaker 2: TV seven years now, it's been a lot of testimony
- 5:02Speaker 2: and it seems like, you know, there is the college
- 5:07Speaker 2: educational route and not to say that is very important,
- 5:10Speaker 2: you know, especially in medical terms, but experience, been there,
- 5:16Speaker 2: done that. Having a T shirt says a lot. I mean,
- 5:20Speaker 2: so your misery can become your ministry and so it
- 5:25Speaker 2: just it just it helps births some compassion with other
- 5:28Speaker 2: people that you see going through stuff for sure. So yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'm glad we were able to do this. And when
- 5:38Speaker 2: we talked about before this going live, I was thinking, well,
- 5:41Speaker 2: and you kind of both just hit on it. When
- 5:44Speaker 2: you think about mental health matters. And I didn't really
- 5:47Speaker 2: mean for this title of the show to be a
- 5:52Speaker 2: kind of spin off or maybe an insult to the
- 5:54Speaker 2: Black Lives Matter movement, But just even when that kind
- 5:58Speaker 2: of idea popped its, I'm like, there's a mental health
- 6:01Speaker 2: issue behind that mindset. Even you know that some people
- 6:05Speaker 2: look at people racism is a mental health issue, I
- 6:09Speaker 2: would say. And you know, I'm under the premise that
- 6:14Speaker 2: God so loved the whole world, that everybody, and just
- 6:18Speaker 2: recently I came to the conclusion, if you don't love
- 6:19Speaker 2: everybody in the world, you don't have the heart of
- 6:22Speaker 2: God yet, and we should aspire for that. It's not easy.
- 6:25Speaker 2: And Jesus even raised the bar and said, love your enemy,
- 6:28Speaker 2: pray for those who use you, pray for those who
- 6:30Speaker 2: spitefully use you. I mean, that's what it means to
- 6:32Speaker 2: be a Christian. And for us mental health, what we're thinking,
- 6:37Speaker 2: just thinking, thinking, renewing your mind, renewing your life comes
- 6:41Speaker 2: from Romans twelve. So this is a biblical principle on
- 6:44Speaker 2: the show. But we wanted to talk about everybody needs
- 6:47Speaker 2: an assessment. I mean, we all get physicals, you know
- 6:50Speaker 2: the Bibles and your temperature and how are you doing physically?
- 6:56Speaker 2: And again my psychology teacher said, we all need to
- 6:59Speaker 2: check up from the neck up on a regular basis.
- 7:03Speaker 2: We think mental health it's somebody else who's acting crazy,
- 7:06Speaker 2: but it's hard to see it on yourselves. Shelby, you
- 7:09Speaker 2: want to talk about that, sure.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think.
- 7:15Speaker 4: There are a lot of things that can keep us
- 7:17Speaker 4: from seeing what we're struggling with, whether that be you know.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Different coping skills, denial. We're very I see that as
- 7:26Speaker 5: people were very self protective. We're into self preservation, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 5: and so sometimes our flaws.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Can be hidden from us.
- 7:33Speaker 5: If what you're talking about, we can see it on
- 7:34Speaker 5: other people, but we don't always see it in ourselves.
- 7:37Speaker 2: And so.
- 7:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but I think in reality, there's so many things
- 7:43Speaker 5: that all of us struggle with, and I think there
- 7:47Speaker 5: are things that we can check in on and look
- 7:50Speaker 5: forward to see.
- 7:50Speaker 3: As you know, before we
- 7:52Speaker 5: Had started this this morning, that you had mentioned, you know,
