- 0:00Hey everyone, and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast.
- 0:05I am Jen, and I am joined by my podcast partner, Megan.
- 0:09How's it going megan?
- 0:11Things are well.
- 0:12How are you?
- 0:13Pretty good.
- 0:15So.
- 0:16At the beginning of this year when we were talking about what we were gonna do in 2025, I mentioned that I might, or I was planning to let's the travel deals lead me this year, and I'm gonna admit that this was harder than I thought it was gonna, I mean, I picture just like seeing a great flight deal and booking it.
- 0:42Megan, what is a great flight deal, is the question.
- 0:45I think it's a fine question.
- 0:48This is the hardest part, like honestly, obviously like a $500 flight to one location is a crazy deal, or it could be like completely, totally expensive.
- 0:58It completely depends on where it is.
- 1:03There's a couple tools that you can use that I've been using.
- 1:06Um, I like Google Flights.
- 1:07They have a little like bar chart that shows you what the normal range of prices are for that particular flight.
- 1:13I do have trust issues with it.
- 1:15I'm not sure how correct it is.
- 1:18I don't know.
- 1:18Anyway, also services or websites that email you flight deals.
- 1:25I already get so many emails that I found this really overwhelming.
- 1:29Like I did sign up for a few.
- 1:31Like my inbox has over a thousand unread emails in it, and I, like truly am Megan is shaking her head at me.
- 1:36For those that, that, those words are so anxiety inducing, I can't even explain it to you.
- 1:43I would have to just go to the top, hit the one thing that covers every email and just hit the little trash can and call it a day.
- 1:51I need some of them like, like.
- 1:54Like you worry about getting up on a plane, but not the fact that you have a thousand unread emails.
- 2:01I think it was 1200 when I last looked.
- 2:04No, I can't even, I, I can't even.
- 2:07But do carry on.
- 2:08Do-.
- 2:09So sorry.
- 2:10Anyway, I don't need any more emails.
- 2:13Honestly, what I've learned over the last few months is of like constantly looking at flight deals is when you see a price you're happy with to a place that you're interested in, that's a deal.
- 2:23Like just take it That is the deal.
- 2:28What else to tell you?
- 2:29Because constantly, constantly obsessing over the prices gets really overwhelming.
- 2:35And it's happened to us a couple of times where we've seen a flight price that we were happy with to, uh, somewhere that we were interested in, uh, like Dublin and we like waffled on it and didn't pull the trigger.
- 2:49'cause we're like, what if it gets less expensive?
- 2:51And like that's just, that's a crazy way to live and you can't do it like that.
- 2:56And then I also feel like my idea of a deal is skewed.
- 3:02Like, I don't know what year I think it is.
- 3:04'cause I'm like.
- 3:07What is it, 1995 or 2025?
- 3:10Literally.
- 3:11Like, oh, aren't I gonna get a player like a flight to Dublin for $300?
- 3:15Like, no, Jen, you're not, it's not gonna happen.
- 3:18And I just, I don't think they're as common in Canada, right?
- 3:21Like our airlines are way more expensive than, than like, uh, other places.
- 3:27And they just, they, those types of deals just don't exist for us.
- 3:32They just don't Agreed.
- 3:34Anyway, all this is, say Megan, I'm not sure this method of booking travel is for me.
- 3:39I never, for a second thought it was, I'm gonna be super honest.
- 3:45I, I loved that it was a fresh new year and you thought, you know what?
- 3:49I'm just gonna let the prices guide me and end up where they take me.
- 3:53And I thought, no, you're not.
- 3:54No you're not.
- 3:58Oh, okay.
- 3:59Well apparently you knew me better than I knew myself.
- 4:02What I, I was like, but I would love to be proved wrong.
- 4:06And I've waited until this moment, and here we are in April and we.
- 4:11We've per in, I have nothing booked.
- 4:13Absolute paralyzed by this.
- 4:16Yeah.
- 4:16I mean we did book, we are going to Ottawa and Montreal in June.
- 4:21And that wasn't really our original plan, obviously.
- 4:26Um, but it's, uh, anyway, that's what we're doing.
- 4:30I don't know what we're doing for the rest of the year.
- 4:32I, uh, I, I don't know man.
- 4:34I don't know where I am.
- 4:35I don't know what we're doing either, honestly.
- 4:37So we're, this is a very off travel year for you and I for sure.
- 4:41Yeah.
- 4:41Um, I know you're also going north though, so that's very exciting.
- 4:44So there's that.
- 4:45Yeah.
- 4:45You do have that now.
- 4:47My thoughts around all of this is I've never sort of like followed the deals.
- 4:51Don't get me wrong.
- 4:52I'm not looking to to pay the most either, so I'm not saying it in that way, but I've never thought I'll take whatever's cheapest to go wherever.
- 5:02So that's not something.
- 5:03So normally when we wanna go somewhere, we know where we go and we don't like the price and then we pay for it.
- 5:08You know what I mean?
- 5:09Yes.
- 5:09Right.
- 5:11That is, that is usually how we do it.
- 5:13Now, don't get me wrong.
- 5:14If someone is able to do this and the day comes even, you're able to do this, I think it's awesome.
- 5:19Mm-hmm.
- 5:20It doesn't always have to be so written in stone, but you're also right, like.
- 5:24You don't wanna pull the trigger sometimes because there's always that thing in your mind where you're like, what if it becomes cheaper?
- 5:30It's like gambling.
- 5:31It's like, what if I win the next time?
- 5:33It's kind of the same idea, but you're right.
- 5:36Yeah.
- 5:36Like if there's a good price that you're okay with, you're never gonna be truly happy because everything is too expensive.
- 5:42But if it's a price you're okay with and place you're interested, like we said, that is your deal.
- 5:47Thank you.
- 5:47Yeah, buy it.
- 5:48That's it.
- 5:49That's it.
- 5:49Check mark.
- 5:50Have a safe trip.
- 5:51I don't, that's it.
- 5:53Yeah, so that's definitely the deal.
- 5:56Cool.
- 5:56Well, that's this week's episode.
