Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded Volume 2 Letter 37 Part 2
In which a tender-hearted mistress, troubled by the imprudence of her young maid Polly, confronts the delicate matters of trust and honour that have been ill-preserved in secret meetings with a certain Mr. H., seeking to untangle the consequences of youthful folly with compassionate firmness. The mistress, guided by a sense of duty and virtue, endeavours to reclaim the injured reputation of her charge, even as she resolutely faces the evasions and shortsightedness of the gentleman involved.
