- 3:09Speaker 1: not comfortable with it.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I don't think there's enough.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Continuity from a scheduling standpoint in the SEC. I understand
- 3:15Speaker 1: with us being new to the conference and schedules get
- 3:17Speaker 1: set earlier years in advance. I think there's some distinct
- 3:21Speaker 1: advantages that some people have where they spread out their
- 3:24Speaker 1: non conference games throughout the season. They played non conference
- 3:28Speaker 1: games in the second to last game of the season.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We're playing all hours on the front end. They're playing

- 7:15Speaker 1: I think I don't think Steve knows that yet, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: obviously I don't know that yet, so he probably doesn't
- 7:21Speaker 1: know that yet either. But if I'm still here. We
- 7:24Speaker 1: will do that as far as we know, the only
- 7:30Speaker 1: radio station in America with the show devoted to college tennis.
- 7:36Speaker 1: That could have changed, but when we started, and I'm
- 7:38Speaker 1: sure it has changed because people copy us all the time,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and you know, with good reasons. Tomorrow I will remind
- 7:47Speaker 1: you that I will be visiting with Kurt Bowles of
- 7:50Speaker 1: the Houston Chronicle and Tony Catalina of the Austin American Statesman.
- 7:56Speaker 1: We do that every Friday and on air Riot and
- 8:00Speaker 1: we'll be here.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Are you in?
- 8:02Speaker 4: Caleb?
- 8:04Speaker 6: Is Will here?
- 8:05Speaker 4: If he's healthy? I guess so, yeah, we don't know yet.
- 8:09Speaker 7: Will.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It's been a little under the weather. Okay, we're going
- 8:12Speaker 1: to take a break. We are going to hear from

- 8:22Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Linebacker Tory and York, and
- 8:25Speaker 1: we've got our Clark Eisenhower outdoor addition, and some nasty animals.
- 8:31Speaker 1: You know, it's a full moon this last week. That
- 8:33Speaker 1: is not good for animal attacks. Well, it's good for
- 8:38Speaker 1: the stories, it's not good for people. The Final Laugh
- 8:41Speaker 1: is brought to you by Chad Jones Law.
- 8:44Speaker 8: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so

- 9:16Speaker 9: NASCAR Championship team owner Rick Hendrick is on and he
- 9:19Speaker 9: describes the closing laps when his number five car, Kyle Larson,
- 9:23Speaker 9: was getting the championship.
- 9:24Speaker 10: Most of the time you kind of know toward the
- 9:27Speaker 10: end you're leading or you're in a good spot, and
- 9:29Speaker 10: this time it was like Denny had it. We conceded,
- 9:32Speaker 10: and then the caution comes out, and I was concerned
- 9:35Speaker 10: about William. And then when they started, when it was
- 9:38Speaker 10: a restart and I saw Kyle where he was positioned,
- 9:40Speaker 10: I said, man, this just can be big. And then
- 9:43Speaker 10: when he went to the top side and came around
- 9:45Speaker 10: got to white. I was super excited. Yeah, this is
- 9:48Speaker 10: definitely the most unexpected championship because I like the old
- 9:53Speaker 10: method where we had the points. But then they told
- 9:55Speaker 10: me that he would have wanted if we went the
- 9:58Speaker 10: old system because we had the points and William been second.
- 10:01Speaker 10: But no, I had conceded in my mind it was
- 10:03Speaker 10: over because it was Denny had about a three second lead.
- 10:06Speaker 10: There was just a few laps left. Then all of
- 10:08Speaker 10: a sudden, the caution comes out, and I guess you
- 10:11Speaker 10: got to learn that I had been leading Martinsville on
- 10:15Speaker 10: a green white checker with both cars and get them
- 10:17Speaker 10: up short. But the championships so different. And even Daytona,
- 10:22Speaker 10: you know, a green white checker and you win the race,
- 10:24Speaker 10: but the championships so different. You know, you plan, you
- 10:27Speaker 10: get here, you're excited, everybody works hard and all that,
- 10:30Speaker 10: and you have all these expectations and then you're in
- 10:33Speaker 10: the race and somebody else is dominating as Denny did,
- 10:36Speaker 10: and then all of a sudden the window opens and
- 10:38Speaker 10: you get a shot and you had it done.
- 10:40Speaker 5: This is the final lap.

- 12:35Speaker 1: and then look forward to that big Samford game coming
- 12:38Speaker 1: up next Saturday. So we got that going on for us,
- 12:42Speaker 1: which is nice. Tomorrow evening, the Aggie basketball team returns
- 12:49Speaker 1: to action. They've had a little time in between games
- 12:54Speaker 1: and they will play beginning series of a few home
- 12:58Speaker 1: games starting on Friday tomorrow. Central Florida. I get Central
- 13:05Speaker 1: Florida and South Florida mixed up, but it's Central Florida,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I believe right. That's the Orlando team that beat A
- 13:12Speaker 1: and M last year. All right, But that was last year.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And as Mike Calco has said repeatedly, we're not talking.
- 13:20Speaker 12: About last year. We're talking about this year.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Here is Bucky on the state of Aggie basketball. Three
- 13:28Speaker 1: games into the season.
- 13:30Speaker 16: What was some of the points of emphasis you wanted
- 13:34Speaker 16: to get across in half court defense after the weekend's game.
- 13:38Speaker 17: Yeah, just we allowed people to drive through the paint.
- 13:40Speaker 17: I mean, no offense, you want to get paint touches
- 13:43Speaker 17: because that opens up everything else. And in that game,
- 13:48Speaker 17: we allowed them to drive the ball to paint unchecked
- 13:51Speaker 17: way too many, way too many times. And you know,
- 13:57Speaker 17: I said this, and this is this is I'm a
- 13:59Speaker 17: realistic coach. You're always gonna get honesty for me, and
- 14:03Speaker 17: I'm realistic. And the truth is if you look at
- 14:05Speaker 17: results of this group. We've been out to play other
- 14:08Speaker 17: teams four times, Bett Crimage versus Rice, played Arizona State.
- 14:11Speaker 4: We had two games. Then we here that we had
- 14:14Speaker 4: one away.
- 14:16Speaker 17: And for the circumstances of our team, you know, not
- 14:21Speaker 17: all returners all that I thought in four of the five,
- 14:24Speaker 17: you know, and players being out, we're probably a little
- 14:27Speaker 17: ahead of where I thought they were going to be,
- 14:30Speaker 17: not where I want to be. Not where we're going
- 14:31Speaker 17: to be in years to come, but based on all
- 14:33Speaker 17: the circumstances here and then in the last one, we
- 14:38Speaker 17: were significantly worse than I'd hope for. And it didn't
- 14:43Speaker 17: relate to the competition. Some of the things that we
- 14:45Speaker 17: did wrong. It was strange. And if this was in reverse,
- 14:49Speaker 17: I'd be feeling pretty good. It was Oak State game
- 14:52Speaker 17: was first, and we kept progressing to that, I'd be like,
- 14:55Speaker 17: all right, we're moving the right direction here. But the
- 14:58Speaker 17: biggest thing was, you know, you know, me and Luca
- 15:02Speaker 17: talked before, this group is not the best individual defending group,
- 15:08Speaker 17: and I said it, when we're making shots and threes,
- 15:10Speaker 17: we're gonna be pretty.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Tough, pretty good.
- 15:12Speaker 17: And even that game we came out there sort of busting.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Threes, been pretty good.
- 15:17Speaker 17: But when we're not making those threes, because we're not
- 15:19Speaker 17: just the best individual defenders, we're gonna have to be
- 15:22Speaker 17: really focus on locking up with team defense. And we
- 15:26Speaker 17: didn't do either. We didn't guard it on the ball well,
- 15:28Speaker 17: and then our team defense wasn't great to keep people
- 15:30Speaker 17: out of the paint. But I tell you this, Uh,
- 15:33Speaker 17: we had a great practice yesterday with getting better at that.
- 15:36Speaker 4: And that's gotta be. That's gotta be our.
- 15:38Speaker 17: Emphasis is how can we win when we're not making
- 15:41Speaker 17: making shots? Because that's gonna happen on the road. And
- 15:44Speaker 17: went on the road, which is gonna be the biggest
- 15:46Speaker 17: challenge for this team. You've gotta have great defense that
- 15:48Speaker 17: keeps people out of the paint.
- 15:50Speaker 4: You talked about the great practice.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So would you said the response by your team has
- 15:54Speaker 1: been a good one or something that you're happy to
- 15:56Speaker 1: see from them.
- 15:57Speaker 4: It was. It was a great one. It really was.
- 15:59Speaker 17: And I think because you got older guys, they have
- 16:02Speaker 17: been through it and they recognize that they don't they
- 16:07Speaker 17: don't want to feel like that, right, But that's the
- 16:11Speaker 17: first time they really saw real adversity together, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 17: on display on the road, hostile environment, and you know
- 16:19Speaker 17: that couldn't stick to what we demand, which is continue
- 16:23Speaker 17: to play hard and unselfish and part of that unselfish
- 16:25Speaker 17: plays being a great team defender.
- 16:27Speaker 18: Yeah, what do you think is beene of those like
- 16:30Speaker 18: consistent areas through three games?
- 16:34Speaker 17: So I look at it like a five game stretch
- 16:37Speaker 17: because I got to see some of the scrimmages, you
- 16:38Speaker 17: know what I'm saying, And so I think for for us,
- 16:42Speaker 17: the consistent would see what our team is. We are
- 16:45Speaker 17: a good shooting team. There's no question on that. We
- 16:48Speaker 17: haven't shot it as well as we're capable of. And
- 16:50Speaker 17: there's gonna be some nights when we shoot that bomb,
- 16:52Speaker 17: I promise you, and you're gonna say, WHOA, we're really
- 16:55Speaker 17: good and well, we got to find ways where this group,
- 17:01Speaker 17: with a not a lot of great individual defenders, can
- 17:04Speaker 17: become a solid half court defensive unit. And I've consistently
- 17:07Speaker 17: seen that not good enough in the half court on
- 17:10Speaker 17: defense right, press wise good, I mean good good considering
- 17:14Speaker 17: had done it long right, I mean turn teams over,
- 17:17Speaker 17: and we're allowing like overall in the press, like zero
- 17:20Speaker 17: point eighty five points of.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Possession overall, which is good.
- 17:23Speaker 17: But our half court defense last game was at like
- 17:25Speaker 17: one point two one. The national average is one point
- 17:27Speaker 17: oh seven. Can't win like that. You can't win like
- 17:29Speaker 17: that on the road and when you're not shooting it well.
- 17:31Speaker 17: So I've consistently seen that we got to get way
- 17:33Speaker 17: better at that.
- 17:34Speaker 19: Sarah, sorry, just say you're talking about the there's not
- 17:37Speaker 19: great individual defenders on this team, so you have to
- 17:40Speaker 19: So how easy of a fix is it?
- 17:43Speaker 4: To play the team defense. You want to me, how
- 17:46Speaker 4: quick a this?
- 17:47Speaker 17: Yeah, And I don't want to I don't want to
- 17:49Speaker 17: mean like I'm coping out or I'm not getting our defender.
- 17:51Speaker 4: That's not the strength of these guys, you know what
- 17:53Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 17:54Speaker 17: Like some like sometimes strength can be a shooter, maybe
- 17:59Speaker 17: a B plus defender, But you wouldn't just walk in
- 18:01Speaker 17: and say, and that's that's the biggest lockdown defender in
- 18:03Speaker 17: the country. You look at room to me and as
- 18:05Speaker 17: you think that's one of the best shooters there is. Right, Well,
- 18:08Speaker 17: the fix for that is not as easy short term
- 18:11Speaker 17: as you hope. Because if you're an individual great defender,
- 18:14Speaker 17: lock him up, don't let him get a.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Step on you. That's pretty easy to do.
- 18:20Speaker 17: But when it comes down to defense and rotate and
- 18:22Speaker 17: rotations all that, it takes some continuity and that that
- 18:26Speaker 17: does take time. And Mac coming back will help with
- 18:29Speaker 17: that significantly because he he uh, he had the physical
- 18:35Speaker 17: stature where you know, when he comes over to help,
- 18:39Speaker 17: it's is different sometimes and someone that's five inches shorter
- 18:42Speaker 17: coming over help. But it will take time. And this's
- 18:46Speaker 17: and that's why I've been realistic about this group. I
- 18:48Speaker 17: said there's gonna be some days we look great, some
- 18:49Speaker 17: days we don't look great, and but it'll start looking
- 18:53Speaker 17: better and better on team defense the further.
- 18:55Speaker 18: We go along speed him can's here you guys expecting
- 18:58Speaker 18: him to play for it.
- 18:59Speaker 17: I could be back sometime within the next ten days,
- 19:02Speaker 17: you know, in some capacity. You know, could that be Friday,
- 19:04Speaker 17: could that be next week?
- 19:06Speaker 4: You know what, we'll we'll, we'll see.
- 19:08Speaker 17: But he was able to get out there yesterday, brought
- 19:11Speaker 17: great energy to the practice.
- 19:15Speaker 4: He was he was good. But same same with Pop.
- 19:19Speaker 17: You know, Pop got to play, but you can tell
- 19:22Speaker 17: the chemistry was slightly off because he ain't got to practice.
- 19:25Speaker 17: It probably gonna be a little bit of a stretch
- 19:28Speaker 17: there while he gets the chemistry back with the team
- 19:30Speaker 17: and team back with Unfortunately he was here this summer,
- 19:33Speaker 17: you know, to practice somewhere where where Pop was able
- 19:35Speaker 17: to do that.
- 19:37Speaker 18: Is there a guy on your team that you feel
- 19:38Speaker 18: like is maybe the best individual.
- 19:40Speaker 17: Defender when Josh is locked in, Josh is a very
- 19:45Speaker 17: good on ball defender. Where we shouldn't have to help
- 19:47Speaker 17: that much, right, And that's what you that's what you
- 19:50Speaker 17: strive for, is where you don't have to put yourself
- 19:52Speaker 17: in rotations.
- 19:54Speaker 4: But the other part is, you know, part of.
- 19:57Speaker 17: Coaching is learning your team, and and that's why it
- 20:03Speaker 17: does help when you have guys that have been there
- 20:05Speaker 17: a while because you know your team. Well, we're learning
- 20:08Speaker 17: this team, like, hey, what can we be good and
- 20:11Speaker 17: how will we find ways to get stops? And so
- 20:13Speaker 17: we're gonna we're changing things as well to help this group.
- 20:16Speaker 4: They all want to win.
- 20:18Speaker 17: So I think you'll see us be much better and
- 20:21Speaker 17: not allowing teams to get shots at the realm. I
- 20:24Speaker 17: do know that you said the way you play, didn't
- 20:28Speaker 17: that make me do with you know, the opponent, but
- 20:32Speaker 17: having a couple of.
- 20:33Speaker 20: Power by opponents here early on, I mean, how how
- 20:37Speaker 20: much does that.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Help you get? Yeah?
- 20:39Speaker 17: Yeah, I don't mean the result wasn't Yeah, the result
- 20:43Speaker 17: certainly could we have played a lesser team and and
- 20:47Speaker 17: uh some of that been masked and one somehow possible.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 20:52Speaker 17: But I guess what I meant by the standard what
- 20:54Speaker 17: we have to play to in that game? You know
- 20:58Speaker 17: what was wasn't there? You know all these teams, I
- 21:01Speaker 17: think Oklahoma State in there. You know they had lost
- 21:04Speaker 17: a non league game there since twenty twenty three. Right,
- 21:07Speaker 17: It's Kyle Keller's been going to there for years and
- 21:09Speaker 17: hadn't got a win yet in that scout. That's not
- 21:12Speaker 17: an easy place to play. Florida State, you know, almost
- 21:15Speaker 17: beat Florida last night. SMU looks good. Pitt won't be so.
- 21:20Speaker 17: All these Power five games are going to be a
- 21:22Speaker 17: real challenge.
- 21:22Speaker 4: I will say this.
- 21:24Speaker 17: Probably we were one of the only teams in the
- 21:26Speaker 17: country that was the Power five that played three games
- 21:29Speaker 17: the first week. You know, we played Monday, Thursday, then
- 21:33Speaker 17: Sunday on the road with travel. We had to do
- 21:37Speaker 17: that because we had to fit the schedule, because our
- 21:39Speaker 17: schedule wasn't together at at the end.
- 21:41Speaker 4: That was a challenge for us. It's a challenge early
- 21:44Speaker 4: in the year.
- 21:46Speaker 17: I didn't put ourselves in the best chance to be
- 21:49Speaker 17: totally fresh and dialed into that game. But I don't
- 21:53Speaker 17: regret that because an SEC tournament you're mantally go have
- 21:56Speaker 17: to win three in a row to win a championship,
- 21:58Speaker 17: that's for sure. But I did feel there's a fatigue
- 22:01Speaker 17: factor in that game that that, you know, I got
- 22:05Speaker 17: to look at going forward, just how we manage a
- 22:07Speaker 17: couple of things with this group in the short term.
- 22:10Speaker 19: I felt like even given the result, the rebounding margin
- 22:14Speaker 19: wasn't egregious for a team like Oklahoma State that has
- 22:17Speaker 19: sized once fine bolts on this team's intensity rebounding the ball,
- 22:21Speaker 19: even the ballot you can't see they're fighting.
- 22:25Speaker 4: You know, we're undersized.
- 22:26Speaker 17: We do know that we missed a lot of threes
- 22:29Speaker 17: in that game, so we had some opportunity to go
- 22:31Speaker 17: get them.
- 22:33Speaker 4: I think they value possessions. I think our group does.
- 22:36Speaker 17: The other side of that was we didn't have as
- 22:38Speaker 17: many chance for defensive rebounds because we weren't getting as
- 22:40Speaker 17: many stops.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Right It does tell me that we have switchability.
- 22:44Speaker 17: If you have switchability, you can stay a ball screen
- 22:46Speaker 17: rotations And so we got to look at that more,
- 22:49Speaker 17: switching more and living with fighting to get rebounds. You
- 22:53Speaker 17: can stay the rotations that It obviously makes life life
- 22:56Speaker 17: a lot easier. But McKenzie will had a lot to
- 23:00Speaker 17: our rebound and coming back and if you look at it,
- 23:02Speaker 17: we got to have all our players rebound out of
- 23:04Speaker 17: their area with that. Rashawn does I mean he sees
- 23:07Speaker 17: ball gets ball. We don't have enough player players that
- 23:09Speaker 17: do that right now.
- 23:11Speaker 18: Yeah, just I'm curious how much will the Ford rotation
- 23:15Speaker 18: maybe change your benefit from McKenzie's return as well?
- 23:18Speaker 4: Well?
- 23:18Speaker 17: It will help a lot, like I mean like it'll
- 23:22Speaker 17: help a lot in terms of being able to find
- 23:26Speaker 17: ways to have your best players on the floor. And
- 23:30Speaker 17: when he comes back, you know, you know, in his absence,
- 23:34Speaker 17: we have to kind of play some guys out of position,
- 23:37Speaker 17: you know, and play a little undersized. When he comes back,
- 23:40Speaker 17: I think you'll see a difference in guys playing roles
- 23:46Speaker 17: are way more comfortable in, if that makes sense to you.
- 23:48Speaker 17: Guys will be able to play roles are more comfortable in.
- 23:51Speaker 4: It seems like the topics been a lot of just defense.
- 23:54Speaker 4: What do you just want to see about?
- 23:55Speaker 14: You know?
- 23:56Speaker 4: What do you want to see from the offense?
- 23:58Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 23:59Speaker 17: A good question. So we in the first six seven
- 24:03Speaker 17: minutes of that game. I thought we actually got really
- 24:05Speaker 17: good shots in the first six seven minutes and we
- 24:08Speaker 17: just didn't shoot. Will we got the shots you want,
- 24:10Speaker 17: you know, and we just.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Kind of it's just won our deal.
- 24:14Speaker 17: I think that affected how we played after that. We
- 24:18Speaker 17: dug ourselves in a little bit of hole. We weren't
- 24:20Speaker 17: making shots, and we saw adversity because of that, and
- 24:24Speaker 17: instead of staying with what's made us pretty good in
- 24:27Speaker 17: these other games with twenty three assists. In some of
- 24:29Speaker 17: these other games, we some of our players felt that
- 24:33Speaker 17: they needed to individually do a little bit more than
- 24:35Speaker 17: necessary to get us back in the game. Probably wasn't
- 24:38Speaker 17: selfishness as much as it was I got to do
- 24:42Speaker 17: a little bit more to try to help us, and
- 24:44Speaker 17: it kind of snowballed on us, which and you saw
- 24:47Speaker 17: that sometimes on defense too, we're down, we take a
- 24:50Speaker 17: chance we shouldn't have taken, and then and then end
- 24:53Speaker 17: up getting buckets. But I'm gonna say this, like we
- 24:56Speaker 17: got to call this what it is.
- 24:57Speaker 7: Like.
- 24:58Speaker 17: We are a Our strength is team. We're limited in
- 25:02Speaker 17: some areas we are the strength is shooting.
- 25:08Speaker 4: We can't roll.
- 25:08Speaker 17: Into places and expect to be have a good offense.
- 25:12Speaker 17: A night when you have a bunch of shooters and
- 25:13Speaker 17: shoot twenty five percent from three can't be good on offense.
- 25:17Speaker 17: I'm not saying it can't be good in the game.
- 25:18Speaker 17: That's we got to make up for it on the
- 25:19Speaker 17: other end. But if we're gonna have some nights where
- 25:22Speaker 17: we play that we may get some of the same
- 25:24Speaker 17: shots and mamelak great, right, So I don't think it's
- 25:30Speaker 17: one of these situations, particularly when with Mackenzie out where
- 25:33Speaker 17: it's like everything's got to change.
- 25:36Speaker 4: I think the change has got to be, hey, we
- 25:38Speaker 4: are what we are.
- 25:39Speaker 17: We got to get more pain touches on offense, but
- 25:41Speaker 17: when we are all we really got to focus on
- 25:43Speaker 17: that other end.
- 25:44Speaker 4: We really got to.
- 25:45Speaker 17: Focus even more on that other end and stay with
- 25:47Speaker 17: it on offense. Don't feel us your job to go
- 25:50Speaker 17: uh isolation basketball?
- 25:54Speaker 15: All right?
- 25:54Speaker 1: That's Bucky. And I got to say he's very direct
- 25:59Speaker 1: and he has identified the same problems with this team
- 26:03Speaker 1: as I have, So I think he's a pretty good
- 26:05Speaker 1: coach if he's agreeing with with with what I've I've
- 26:09Speaker 1: seen as well. So we say this every year. When
- 26:17Speaker 1: the ball goes in the basket, you look pretty good.
- 26:20Speaker 1: When the ball doesn't go in the basket, you don't
- 26:22Speaker 1: look very good. And he did talk about fatigue. I
- 26:26Speaker 1: appreciated that he said we need to revisit some things
- 26:31Speaker 1: because they have played, you know, three games very closely,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and I'm sure worked out very hard in between and
- 26:37Speaker 1: traveled no excuses. But I expect him to be much
- 26:42Speaker 1: better fresher legs, certainly tomorrow evening. I know there's no
- 26:50Speaker 1: one on this team that remembers a year ago at
- 26:55Speaker 1: Central Florida, so I don't think that plays into anything.
- 26:58Speaker 1: But there athleticism will. I don't know if it will
- 27:02Speaker 1: be close to Oklahoma State, but I'm sure they've got
- 27:04Speaker 1: some athletic guys. I don't know anything about them. I'm
- 27:09Speaker 1: sure they'll shoot better. I'm sure A and M will
- 27:11Speaker 1: shoot better at home. I'm sure they will play faster,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and and he's right, they have defensive issues, there's no
- 27:21Speaker 1: question about that. Looking I hope and Bacco can get
- 27:25Speaker 1: in a little bit looking forward to see, he said
- 27:28Speaker 1: within the next ten days, so we'll see. I think
- 27:32Speaker 1: Pop is going to gradually improve. You know, he hasn't
- 27:37Speaker 1: played competitively in almost a year, and that showed. Uh,
- 27:43Speaker 1: he's had a couple of injuries that and that he's
- 27:47Speaker 1: still getting back from and he'll be better. Ryland Griffin
- 27:52Speaker 1: needs to be better for sure, So and I think
- 27:57Speaker 1: they will be better tomorrow evening it's Friday night, it's
- 28:01Speaker 1: before a game. They'll probably be a pretty decent crowd there.
- 28:05Speaker 1: People coming in early for the game Saturday, students pre
- 28:12Speaker 1: midnight yell. So I'm expecting a pretty decent crowd tomorrow
- 28:17Speaker 1: evening at the ball game, So we'll see how that
- 28:20Speaker 1: plays out as well. That is a seven o'clock start.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Would you pull up the schedule, Caleb, because I didn't
- 28:29Speaker 1: bring it in with me. I think they have two
- 28:32Speaker 1: home games next week. Maybe they played no no, no no basketball. Yeah, yeah, Monday,
- 28:43Speaker 1: Friday of next week, does that sound right? Tuesday Friday?
- 28:49Speaker 4: Okay, who's Tuesday?
- 28:51Speaker 1: Ooh, the Griz and then Friday Manhattan. Both of the
- 28:57Speaker 1: in boys are in town Montana, Manhattan, Manhattan Jaspers. Yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 1: the Jaspers they've been in C double eighteen before. Which
- 29:08Speaker 1: whatever league they're in, I know they have been in
- 29:11Speaker 1: the tournament.
- 29:14Speaker 21: They're in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Country.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the Metro the back. That's a good basketball league.
- 29:21Speaker 1: And see see how many n C Double A tournaments
- 29:24Speaker 1: Manhattan has been too. I don't know Montana's ever been
- 29:26Speaker 1: to an NCUBLEA tournament, but Manhattan, I know, has been
- 29:30Speaker 1: in the NC DOUBLEA tournament before. The Jaspers. I remember
- 29:34Speaker 1: the Jaspers from the back. Like I said, good basketball league.
- 29:39Speaker 4: No, six times.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Okay, they've been six times, but what's the most recent
- 29:44Speaker 1: eight times? What's the most recent. Oh my gosh, okay,
- 29:48Speaker 1: so it's been a while.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Twenty fifty has been ten years.
- 29:51Speaker 1: So but they went back to back years right fourteen fifteen, Yes, okay.

- 32:33Speaker 26: Welcome to the High School Report. I'm at Williams and
- 32:35Speaker 26: today we're going out to the Polaris Fund Center phone
- 32:37Speaker 26: line to visit with the head football coach for the
- 32:39Speaker 26: Soledo Eagles, Ricky Beatty.
- 32:40Speaker 15: Great to have you back.
- 32:41Speaker 4: How are you doing.
- 32:43Speaker 7: I'm doing good, man doing great, Glad to be here.
- 32:45Speaker 26: Awesome. Yeah, at the beginning of the season, you set
- 32:48Speaker 26: certain goals. Talk to me about how you have met
- 32:51Speaker 26: those goals or perhaps you have fallen short, and how
- 32:54Speaker 26: those goals have evolved over time as you've watched this
- 32:57Speaker 26: season's team mature.
- 33:00Speaker 7: Yeah, so we feel like we're in a good spot.
- 33:02Speaker 7: You know, accomplishing a district championship it was definitely awesome.
- 33:06Speaker 7: Good for the team, good for the school everything. And
- 33:09Speaker 7: as far as the progress we've made and you know,
- 33:11Speaker 7: our goals of just setting higher standards and expectations are
- 33:15Speaker 7: that's definitely happened. And now we're just in a position
- 33:19Speaker 7: where we just got to keep winning and uphold those
- 33:22Speaker 7: standards that were set for ourselves.
- 33:25Speaker 26: And you had a great regular season. I was going
- 33:27Speaker 26: to say, going five and one in district, taking district.
- 33:30Speaker 26: What lessons are you taking from the regular season into
- 33:32Speaker 26: the playoffs?
- 33:34Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, we've been We've tooken some or taken
- 33:37Speaker 7: some up ups and downs, you know, with injuries and
- 33:42Speaker 7: different people and different playing in different spots and just
- 33:45Speaker 7: being able to adjust, uh and trust that people are
- 33:48Speaker 7: going to do their jobs and and that type of thing.
- 33:50Speaker 7: You know, we're going to take a lot of from
- 33:53Speaker 7: what we did uh in district and played in some
- 33:55Speaker 7: big games and played well. And then there's some things
- 33:58Speaker 7: that we want to take from the games that we
- 33:59Speaker 7: did out play well and and put that to use
- 34:02Speaker 7: houlfully to where we're correcting that, uh and just taking
- 34:05Speaker 7: a lot of momentum of the playoffs. That's the biggest thing.
- 34:07Speaker 17: M H.
- 34:08Speaker 26: Speaking of adjustments, looking back at the final few regular
- 34:11Speaker 26: season games, what adjustments did you make or wish you
- 34:13Speaker 26: had made to sharpen focus for postseason play?
- 34:18Speaker 7: You know, I don't know, I don't necessarily know that
- 34:19Speaker 7: I'm looking at it as man, we should have done
- 34:21Speaker 7: this or that differently. I just know that there's some
- 34:25Speaker 7: there's some things as far as procedural stuff in the game,
- 34:29Speaker 7: being able to prepare as good as we want to
- 34:33Speaker 7: leading up into into games of uh that are bigger
- 34:36Speaker 7: games to where we can skill compete at a high
- 34:39Speaker 7: level and make sure that same standard and expectation is
- 34:44Speaker 7: there every week.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Mm hm.
- 34:46Speaker 26: And how did you manage the balance between maintaining intensity
- 34:49Speaker 26: and avoiding burnout as the season reaches its critical stretch?
- 34:54Speaker 10: Uh?
- 34:54Speaker 7: You know that there obviously is a balance there, and
- 34:59Speaker 7: the biggest thing is use got to got to be hungry.
- 35:01Speaker 7: You gotta be you gotta want it more than the
- 35:03Speaker 7: people that you're playing and and play with that intensity
- 35:06Speaker 7: throughout the course of the game. You know, I don't
- 35:08Speaker 7: think we have the approach of lightning up practice at all.
- 35:11Speaker 7: It's just, man, we got to keep grinding and and
- 35:13Speaker 7: be the team that can can adjust better and do
- 35:16Speaker 7: better things as far as when whenever the season gets
- 35:20Speaker 7: to be in a grind. And you know, we take
- 35:21Speaker 7: pride in our strength and conditioning. We've been lifting heavy
- 35:24Speaker 7: all year to get ourselves prepared and not just in
- 35:28Speaker 7: the cruise mode. So we feel like just keep the
- 35:30Speaker 7: pedal on the metal is the best strategy we got.
- 35:33Speaker 15: M H.
- 35:34Speaker 26: What have been some critical leadership moments from players on
- 35:36Speaker 26: the team this season? Is there anyone who really stepped
- 35:39Speaker 26: up this year that you would like to shout out?
- 35:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 35:42Speaker 7: I mean I have a leadership council of our quarterback
- 35:45Speaker 7: DeVante Foster, one of our offensive linemen Daniel Hernandez, a
- 35:49Speaker 7: receiver Brandon bill Dying, and a safety Mason Olsen, and
- 35:54Speaker 7: a linebacker Demonte Foster, where we we lean on those
- 36:01Speaker 7: guys a lot, and and we've had some ups and
- 36:03Speaker 7: down and one of our linebackers is on the leadership
- 36:05Speaker 7: council to Michael Edmonton, where a couple of them have
- 36:09Speaker 7: been injured, you know, so that to step up and
- 36:11Speaker 7: lead and make sure the guys that are taking their
- 36:13Speaker 7: spots are coached up and we're heading in the right direction.
- 36:18Speaker 7: And so they they've held a humongous role for us
- 36:20Speaker 7: as far as how to fill those roles and and
- 36:23Speaker 7: and enforce things that we're saying as coaches from the
- 36:26Speaker 7: player perspective. So it's been good, m H.
- 36:28Speaker 26: And if you had to pick one regular season game
- 36:30Speaker 26: that was the greatest internal test for your team this season?
- 36:33Speaker 26: What game would that be and why.
- 36:36Speaker 7: The Wimberley game when they came over to our place.
- 36:39Speaker 7: It was the the third district game for us, and
- 36:44Speaker 7: it was a big game, kind of a target on
- 36:46Speaker 7: our schedule, and we came away with to win, played well,
- 36:50Speaker 7: did very good on either side of the ball, and
- 36:52Speaker 7: approached the game the right way. And so I think
- 36:53Speaker 7: that was kind of a wake up moment of hey man,
- 36:56Speaker 7: we can be really good and go out there and
- 36:58Speaker 7: do good things and end up with a district championship.
- 37:01Speaker 7: So that was a big turning point for us.
- 37:05Speaker 26: And talk to me about some of the mental and
- 37:07Speaker 26: physical challenges that are unique to preparing for playoff games
- 37:10Speaker 26: as opposed to regular season or district games.
- 37:13Speaker 7: Well, it's kind of tough for you know, you don't
- 37:15Speaker 7: get any films until the weekend and you're kind of
- 37:18Speaker 7: trying to grind it out with a game plan of
- 37:20Speaker 7: stuff that you haven't seen until then and watching tons
- 37:24Speaker 7: of film trying to get prepared and trying to get
- 37:26Speaker 7: your kids prepared to that presents a challenge. But we
- 37:30Speaker 7: feel pretty good about our approach and how we've done
- 37:33Speaker 7: that and prepared. It is kind of a challenge. And
- 37:36Speaker 7: not only that getting stuff late, but you're also playing
- 37:39Speaker 7: teams that you're not really familiar with, So getting some
- 37:42Speaker 7: familiarity with all of that going along with a late
- 37:46Speaker 7: adjusted game plan and stuff, and all that comes into
- 37:49Speaker 7: play whenever you're preparing for the playoffs.
- 37:52Speaker 26: And you face Piercel this Friday, what are you expecting
- 37:54Speaker 26: from them? And how do you think your teams will
- 37:56Speaker 26: mix on the field.
- 37:58Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, I'm a expecting a Pierce Aid bunch
- 38:01Speaker 7: to play really hard, you know. I think there're a
- 38:03Speaker 7: bunch of good kids out there that, uh, let's seem
- 38:07Speaker 7: to play with good intensity, you know. And I think
- 38:10Speaker 7: we just got to do our jobs enough and it
- 38:12Speaker 7: will match up pretty well and uh hopefully execute good
- 38:16Speaker 7: enough to win the game.
- 38:18Speaker 26: Yeah, and looking ahead, you know, I wonder whether this foresight,
- 38:23Speaker 26: this question is even in your head at this point.
- 38:25Speaker 26: What are some specific areas that you are wanting to
- 38:28Speaker 26: refine in the off season to build on the season's
- 38:30Speaker 26: momentum and prepare for next year's challenge.
- 38:33Speaker 7: Well, I think it just comes down to raising your
- 38:35Speaker 7: standard up. Now your expectations are higher, so meeting those
- 38:41Speaker 7: requires more and then just kind of ticket a step further.
- 38:45Speaker 7: You know, we took tremendous strides in the last two
- 38:48Speaker 7: years to get where we're at, and now we've just
- 38:50Speaker 7: got to keep on taking steps forward to push yourself
- 38:53Speaker 7: to where you want to be and not be complacent
- 38:55Speaker 7: and think, oh, we've arrived, because we definitely haven't. We
- 38:58Speaker 7: still have a higher sp rations of what we want
- 39:00Speaker 7: to do.
- 39:01Speaker 4: Awesome, very well, but thank you so much for your time, Coach.
- 39:04Speaker 7: Absolutely man, I can talk to you.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Yes, sir.

- 41:33Speaker 29: As the Houston Texans continued riding high from the comeback
- 41:35Speaker 29: win over Jacksonville, the NFL recognized to Neil Hunters standout
- 41:39Speaker 29: performance over the weekend. Hunter was named the AFC Defensive
- 41:43Speaker 29: Player of the Week. Hunter was an unblockable forest, getting
- 41:46Speaker 29: eight QB pressures, seven tackles, four quarterback hits, four tackles
- 41:50Speaker 29: for loss, one forest fumfle and tying his career high
- 41:53Speaker 29: with three and a half sacks. It marked Hunter's third
- 41:55Speaker 29: game with two plus sacks in his sixth career game
- 41:58Speaker 29: with three or more. As good as the defensive performance was,
- 42:01Speaker 29: the Texans will turn the page now as they take
- 42:03Speaker 29: on the Titans this weekend, a team general manager Nick
- 42:06Speaker 29: Casseo had high praise for in this week's episode of

- 42:09Speaker 30: We're seeing a team that's really improving. And from the

- 42:15Speaker 30: that was to where they are now, they're really a
- 42:17Speaker 30: different team. I mean they played the Chargers essentially two
- 42:21Speaker 30: one score game, so they've been competitive.

- 44:35Speaker 1: But have you met us on this Thursday afternoon? Linebacker
- 44:43Speaker 1: Torre and york as I mentioned earlier, having an All
- 44:46Speaker 1: American caliber season for the Aggie defense in his third year,
- 44:54Speaker 1: lightly recruited, has been instinctive from his first moment on
- 45:01Speaker 1: campus and has just gotten better. You're gonna find out
- 45:07Speaker 1: why because he likes to watch a lot of film.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Here is Torrian york.
- 45:15Speaker 28: I have shown this year the ability to after maybe
- 45:18Speaker 28: not a great defensive performance, to come back and have
- 45:20Speaker 28: a really good one.
- 45:21Speaker 8: So how much fide you taken that?
- 45:22Speaker 1: And then considering how last year went at South Carolina
- 45:25Speaker 1: to get ready for this one?
- 45:26Speaker 32: Oh yeah, you know, we got embarrassed out South Carolina
- 45:29Speaker 32: last year. We had a plethora of miss tackle So
- 45:31Speaker 32: you're just trying to find some of the details and
- 45:32Speaker 32: make sure we're tackling these guys with the right technique
- 45:34Speaker 32: come Saturday.
- 45:35Speaker 4: If there's something.
- 45:36Speaker 20: About le North that makes them other than big place,
- 45:38Speaker 20: that makes them great, difficult to say.
- 45:40Speaker 32: He's bill like Rob Gronkolse saw me, he's hard to
- 45:42Speaker 32: tackle him up high. You got to drive through the
- 45:44Speaker 32: thigh board. So you know, just got sick to the
- 45:45Speaker 32: game plan?
- 45:46Speaker 28: You did you listen to the Missouri linemen say that
- 45:49Speaker 28: it seemed like you guys do different places.
- 45:51Speaker 4: And do you take that as a compliment?
- 45:52Speaker 28: And what does that say about your ability to distinguish
- 45:54Speaker 28: what's going on?
- 45:55Speaker 19: Oh?
- 45:55Speaker 15: Yeah, you know, that's cool.
- 45:56Speaker 32: And it's a team effort though we're out there playing
- 45:58Speaker 32: at eleven on eleven defensive football and SEC. So it's
- 46:01Speaker 32: definitely a group effort. And I'm glad that he felt
- 46:02Speaker 32: like that for sure?
- 46:03Speaker 15: Is it true? Were they tipping stuff football?
- 46:07Speaker 3: What does it mean to you to have the Aggies
- 46:09Speaker 3: in positional they haven't been in more than thirty years
- 46:11Speaker 3: and a chance to do even more things.
- 46:13Speaker 15: Oh, it's a special feeling for sure.
- 46:14Speaker 32: But honestly, it's everything that we talked about for a
- 46:16Speaker 32: second coach Ilkkahara. So it's just cool to see these
- 46:18Speaker 32: things come to fruition.
- 46:20Speaker 2: What do you think is the biggest key to turn
- 46:22Speaker 2: around to allow.
- 46:23Speaker 32: You guys to do this, The culture, the mindset of
- 46:26Speaker 32: the team. Just make sure that we're all on the
- 46:27Speaker 32: same page, all the one hundred sixty four of us
- 46:29Speaker 32: that load up that plane last Saturday and everybody that
- 46:31Speaker 32: took the bus trip up there beyond the Norris Just.
- 46:34Speaker 18: What do you see from that offense that South Carolina?
- 46:36Speaker 15: It's gonna bring in this extremely talented for sure.
- 46:38Speaker 32: You know, they have Nick Carb over there, They have
- 46:40Speaker 32: a good running back over there, They have good three
- 46:42Speaker 32: running backs over there. Honestly, the tight ends are big guys.
- 46:44Speaker 32: Offensive line, you know, you hear about the offensive lineman,
- 46:46Speaker 32: coach getting fired and all that, but at the end
- 46:48Speaker 32: of the day, the sec offensive linean So they're gonna
- 46:49Speaker 32: come out there and try and rip our heads off.
- 46:51Speaker 9: You've been able to avenge a few losses from last
- 46:54Speaker 9: year this year.
- 46:54Speaker 15: How much is that in the back of your.
- 46:55Speaker 16: Mind when you go and played in South Carolina this week?
- 46:57Speaker 15: It's personal?
- 46:59Speaker 19: How do you feel like y'avi didnt want to keep
- 47:01Speaker 19: outside noise outside of this.
- 47:02Speaker 32: Building, and oh yeah, we don't listen to that, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 32: we just stick to our game. We just talk amongst
- 47:06Speaker 32: each other, talk about what's gonna take to win the
- 47:08Speaker 32: game on Saturday, but.
- 47:09Speaker 18: Joko talked about the belief that this team has.
- 47:12Speaker 33: Just what did that win in South Bend in Week
- 47:14Speaker 33: three do for your guys morale and just the confidence
- 47:17Speaker 33: that y'all maybe carried the.
- 47:18Speaker 15: Rest of his way so far.
- 47:19Speaker 32: Yeah, the win helped a lot, but probably how we
- 47:21Speaker 32: won helped a lot as well. Just knowing that we
- 47:23Speaker 32: went down to the war on fourth down, great play
- 47:25Speaker 32: of our quarterback and our tight end making it happen.
- 47:27Speaker 32: So you know, we're just out there, we're ticking together.
- 47:29Speaker 32: We love each other man, and then that win was special.
- 47:31Speaker 32: I feel like God was on our side more than
- 47:33Speaker 32: needs anything at that moment. Other than the mantra of
- 47:37Speaker 32: the off season being finished, What do you think has
- 47:40Speaker 32: played a role and you guys finishing so well in
- 47:42Speaker 32: these games on the stretch, I would just say that,
- 47:45Speaker 32: I would honestly just say the mantra being finished. I
- 47:47Speaker 32: think that the question kind of answered itself. But yeah,
- 47:50Speaker 32: you know, we let a lot of games sup away
- 47:51Speaker 32: last year. They talk about we we fromed a lot
- 47:54Speaker 32: of us to two minute drills last year, as well,
- 47:56Speaker 32: marcell put us in a position to go win a
- 47:57Speaker 32: lot of games, and we didn't come through it on defense.
- 47:59Speaker 32: So we take a lot of pride in so ultimately,
- 48:00Speaker 32: when I finish out the games the right way and
- 48:02Speaker 32: finish the season out the right way.
- 48:03Speaker 20: As well, what's the take to because y'all typically play
- 48:07Speaker 20: party sound run defense, but you know that Susans occasionally
- 48:11Speaker 20: this tendency to give up a big play. So what's
- 48:13Speaker 20: the next step to do to tie.
- 48:15Speaker 4: Up that loose end?
- 48:15Speaker 32: Yeah, Minimuiz is exposed to players for sure. You know
- 48:17Speaker 32: these guys are as you see football players as well,
- 48:19Speaker 32: which means they're e league, which means they'll probably make
- 48:21Speaker 32: some players on you. But you gotta make them earn
- 48:23Speaker 32: those players instead of given them away like we have
- 48:24Speaker 32: been in the past.
- 48:25Speaker 15: How do you stop the.
- 48:27Speaker 32: Stick to our game plan and make sure everybodys playing
- 48:29Speaker 32: assignment sound football.
- 48:30Speaker 4: If you had a hives Been vote, how would you vote?
- 48:34Speaker 32: Marcel Red? One hundred percent? Marcel Reed?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Can you tell us why?
- 48:39Speaker 32: Well, Marcelli's turned around this program for sure. He's the
- 48:41Speaker 32: he's the leader in the forefront of it. I mean,
- 48:43Speaker 32: he's out there, he's playing his best on the biggest moment,
- 48:45Speaker 32: and that's something that you can't measure. I mean, we're undefeated,
- 48:48Speaker 32: we're number three in the country. I mean, he's doing
- 48:50Speaker 32: all the right things and become the highs and so
- 48:51Speaker 32: my vote is Marcel for sure.
- 48:53Speaker 20: As a linebacker, how would you defend against Marcel Reed?
- 48:57Speaker 32: Hit him in his mouth, make him not to run
- 49:00Speaker 32: the ball anymore, make him throw the ball. But I
- 49:02Speaker 32: don't want to say, yeah, you know, I heard him
- 49:05Speaker 32: tell his mom that when we were talking to the
- 49:06Speaker 32: family hotel on Friday. He told his mom, who's a
- 49:08Speaker 32: gingerbread man, so well, he just can't touch him. He
- 49:12Speaker 32: can't catch me, You can't catch him.
- 49:16Speaker 4: What do you think the biggest impact from him office
- 49:18Speaker 4: listen from this program.
- 49:20Speaker 32: I mean I said it from the second I started
- 49:21Speaker 32: doing interviews in January last year. I feel like he
- 49:23Speaker 32: was the most important however we made because he's the
- 49:25Speaker 32: only other coach on staff besides coach Elko, that is
- 49:28Speaker 32: able to reach and coach all positions on the football team.
- 49:30Speaker 32: So that means that he's out there and still in
- 49:32Speaker 32: that mentality that's gonna take to be great on Saturdays
- 49:34Speaker 32: and hopefully on Sundays, in the future.
- 49:36Speaker 4: You coach the gingerbread man and practice.
- 49:38Speaker 15: Yeah, for sure.
- 49:38Speaker 32: He won't tell you about whenever he was a Scott
- 49:40Speaker 32: team quarterback our freshman year, and how he was a
- 49:42Speaker 32: live quarterback because I ain't gonna lie. Marcel is doing
- 49:44Speaker 32: his thing. He was making us miss So at the
- 49:46Speaker 32: time coach director was like, Marcel's live, go tackle him.
- 49:48Speaker 32: So we got him a couple of times.
- 49:49Speaker 15: For sure.
- 49:50Speaker 4: He was a leadership standpoint. Was it like having catches?
- 49:53Speaker 29: How on your side?
- 49:55Speaker 32: Having catches how as like a great sigh of relief
- 49:57Speaker 32: for sure, because you know he's gonna put pressure on
- 49:59Speaker 32: that tackle and the posing quarterback as well. So when
- 50:01Speaker 32: the quarterback is out there, he's friendsic with his footwork,
- 50:04Speaker 32: he's padding that football. It's only a matter of time
- 50:06Speaker 32: before Cash hits. And then that's why I like to see.
- 50:08Speaker 32: For sure, he's.
- 50:08Speaker 16: Only a few away from, like my one of Miles
- 50:11Speaker 16: Garrett's best season, some of the bigger names and in
- 50:14Speaker 16: a pass rushing Do y'all want to see him reach
- 50:16Speaker 16: that goal?
- 50:17Speaker 32: Oh yeah, for sure. You know we want all of
- 50:19Speaker 32: our teams to make history. So it starts to Cash.
- 50:21Speaker 32: It starts with Marcello winning the Heisman. You know, the
- 50:23Speaker 32: award is gonna keep rolling in for my team for sure.
- 50:25Speaker 30: How would you describe I mean, your defense's ability to
- 50:27Speaker 30: you know, in some games, even with slow starts and
- 50:30Speaker 30: first steps, you guys always seem to.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Have kind of the moment in games where you respond
- 50:33Speaker 4: and just walk in.
- 50:35Speaker 18: I mean, why are you.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Guys having to do that?
- 50:37Speaker 15: Like I said, manage football?
- 50:38Speaker 32: You know, these guys are elite players, especially in our league.
- 50:40Speaker 32: That these guys are elite, and so they're gonna make plays,
- 50:42Speaker 32: and so you might see an explosive run or supposed
- 50:44Speaker 32: to plass that might go for a touchdown. But it's
- 50:46Speaker 32: on us to, you know, to come back in and
- 50:48Speaker 32: come back to center and just make sure that we're
- 50:49Speaker 32: all on the same page moving forward.
- 50:50Speaker 15: Obviously, you guys get a lot of work to do.
- 50:52Speaker 16: But how validating is it to have a belief of
- 50:54Speaker 16: what this team could.
- 50:55Speaker 4: Be in the preseason and kind of see it come
- 50:57Speaker 4: to fruition this year.
- 50:58Speaker 32: Like I said, it's everything that we talked about.
- 50:59Speaker 15: For sure.
- 51:00Speaker 32: It's definitely a unique feeling to be a Ford you
- 51:02Speaker 32: guys today at nine to o, number three team in
- 51:04Speaker 32: the country. It's attestment to all hard work and our
- 51:06Speaker 32: dedication to each other first and foremost.
- 51:09Speaker 3: What's it like when you're around campus?
- 51:12Speaker 2: Are the students really excited and people say crazy things
- 51:14Speaker 2: to you?
- 51:14Speaker 15: Or yeah?
- 51:15Speaker 32: Yeah, they always say what's up? They're always smiling and stuff.
- 51:17Speaker 32: And you know, at the end of the day, when
- 51:18Speaker 32: I walk off this football field, I just walk. I'm
- 51:20Speaker 32: a normal person, a normal guy from Triple Texas, just
- 51:22Speaker 32: here at A and M. So it's definitely a good
- 51:25Speaker 32: experience and a good fan experience as well. But I'm
- 51:27Speaker 32: thankful for the twelfth man the.
- 51:28Speaker 33: Playoffs with the chairman said last week that defense was
- 51:31Speaker 33: kind of a separator between you guys of House Stay
- 51:33Speaker 33: in Indiana. Why all a number three you jumped a
- 51:36Speaker 33: what'd you kind of make of that? And did you
- 51:37Speaker 33: do you feel like you guys wanted to go out and.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Prove that maybe that wasn't true.
- 51:40Speaker 32: Yeah, that's the outside noise that we're really not listening to.
- 51:43Speaker 15: So we just tick to our game plan.
- 51:45Speaker 4: What's the work do you put in to figure out
- 51:47Speaker 4: what the other team you can to do?
- 51:48Speaker 19: Like?
- 51:48Speaker 13: How many hours?
- 51:49Speaker 4: For both of us never played football much was at
- 51:52Speaker 4: this level? How much work does it take to be you.
- 51:56Speaker 32: Let's just say I was watching the South Carolina on
- 51:58Speaker 32: the play right back from Missouri, but so pretty much
- 52:01Speaker 32: from it's an away game and.
- 52:02Speaker 15: We're flying back.
- 52:04Speaker 32: Like I said, I watched South Carolina versus Missouri game
- 52:06Speaker 32: on on the way back from Columbia, Missouri, and then
- 52:08Speaker 32: just from that point on, just watch football all day,
- 52:10Speaker 32: all night. So I go to sleep and I wake
- 52:12Speaker 32: up and I do it again all the way until
- 52:13Speaker 32: game time.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Where did you pick up that work ethic?
- 52:15Speaker 15: Did you for your parents? Or dad?
- 52:17Speaker 7: Mom?
- 52:18Speaker 15: Yeah, my dad. My dad works two jobs. You know.
- 52:21Speaker 32: He sleeps in his work clothes. He wakes him at
- 52:22Speaker 32: fo o'clock in the morning. He doesn't get off till
- 52:24Speaker 32: ten because he owns his own barbershops. So I get
- 52:26Speaker 32: that work ethic from him. And we started watching film
- 52:29Speaker 32: week one of my eighth grade season, so that must
- 52:31Speaker 32: have been twenty eighteen. So from that point on, doesn't
- 52:33Speaker 32: watch a film ever since.
- 52:34Speaker 15: What's his name of what are those two jobs? Robert Yorke.
- 52:37Speaker 32: He's a manager of a fur hood, largest military base
- 52:39Speaker 32: in the country, and then he owns his own barbershop.
- 52:42Speaker 15: And uncle has barbershop in Clean, Texas.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Tell me about your grandpa.
- 52:46Speaker 15: Which one is New York grandpa? Where do you come from?
- 52:49Speaker 15: My grandpa? I graduated from A and M or which
- 52:52Speaker 15: one pert grandpa?
- 52:54Speaker 7: Oh?
- 52:55Speaker 32: Yeah, my Pert Rican grandpa? Yeah yeah, my grandpa. Yeah,
- 52:58Speaker 32: he's from I'll just from New York. He's actually in
- 53:01Speaker 32: New York right now. So I wanted to follo him
- 53:03Speaker 32: out to the Missouri game, but he was in New
- 53:04Speaker 32: York dealing with his sister. You know, I pray for
- 53:06Speaker 32: my aunt and she's she's going through some things right now. So,
- 53:09Speaker 32: you know, my grandpa instead a lot lessons to me
- 53:11Speaker 32: as well. He was one of my football coaches along
- 53:12Speaker 32: with my dad growing up. So I had great men
- 53:14Speaker 32: in my life that have led me to where I'm now.
- 53:16Speaker 4: What's his name and what lessons do you stick out with?
- 53:20Speaker 32: My grandpa's name was Louis Rodriguez. You know, he just
- 53:23Speaker 32: feel like every time I talked to him, he just
- 53:25Speaker 32: think he talked. He tells me how thankful he is
- 53:27Speaker 32: to have me and his life.
- 53:28Speaker 15: We're just great friends.
- 53:29Speaker 32: He's been there with me through thick and thin, through
- 53:31Speaker 32: the hardships, through all of that. Like I remember, whenever
- 53:35Speaker 32: coach Oko and I was gonna go to Duke and
- 53:37Speaker 32: I point on a map to where Duke was at,
- 53:38Speaker 32: like they didn't even know where he's at. So, uh,
- 53:40Speaker 32: you know, that was definitely a unique thing because I
- 53:42Speaker 32: knew I was kind of going to go far away
- 53:43Speaker 32: from home. Thankfully I didn't. Thankfully I'm only an hour
- 53:45Speaker 32: twenty away. But I knew that was gonna be hard
- 53:47Speaker 32: for me. We had a moment.
- 53:49Speaker 15: Uh, we were crying.
- 53:49Speaker 32: I'm not We were crying at the subway right by
- 53:51Speaker 32: to my high school because I told him I was
- 53:53Speaker 32: probably gonna go to North Carolina to go play for Coacholkome.
- 53:55Speaker 13: Do you appreciate how much work he has to had
- 53:57Speaker 13: to put it to come from Puerto Rico to stablish
- 53:59Speaker 13: up in Brooklyn, and then now to.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Have you here.
- 54:02Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 54:03Speaker 32: Yeah, I definitely think about it a lot. Because my
- 54:05Speaker 32: family came from Mexico twenty nineteen. We had the fifty
- 54:08Speaker 32: to get together, so we must be this year must
- 54:10Speaker 32: be the fifty six year that we've been in the States.
- 54:11Speaker 32: So I definitely use that on days where I feel
- 54:13Speaker 32: like not waking up, coming up to the facility, putting
- 54:16Speaker 32: in the work that I know I should be putting in.
- 54:18Speaker 32: I know there's a lot of women in my life
- 54:19Speaker 32: as well as that.
- 54:19Speaker 15: I just wake up every day, but even when they
- 54:21Speaker 15: don't want to go to work.
- 54:22Speaker 32: So that's why I'm up here grinding from sun up
- 54:23Speaker 32: to sundown to make sure they never have to work again.
- 54:25Speaker 1: It's Toy in York and I was putting this together.
- 54:30Speaker 1: He was talking about his grandfather in New York and
- 54:34Speaker 1: he said, we were crying at the subway. And I go, okay, Bud,
- 54:38Speaker 1: because we were crying at the subway in Temple. I go,
- 54:41Speaker 1: there's not a subway in Temple. I go, oh, it's
- 54:44Speaker 1: the subway sandwich shop in Temple. I know where that is,
- 54:51Speaker 1: by the stadium.
- 54:52Speaker 4: By the way.
- 54:52Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure I've eaten there, and that's been a
- 54:55Speaker 1: long time ago. We're call it Brian versus Temple Football.
- 55:00Speaker 15: I know.
- 55:01Speaker 1: This is the kind of stuff that goes through my brain,
- 55:05Speaker 1: which is why I can't think of anything anymore, because
