- 0:23App. Now let's open our Bibles and
- 0:26study God's Word. Good to be back in Colorado when
- 0:36you live in Texas for 44 years, it's good to be back in
- 0:39Colorado. I I'm a Colorado boy, Rocky
- 0:44Mountain High. I'm not talking about drugs or
- 0:46alcohol. I'm talking about nature, the
- 0:49mountains, the trees, fishing, snow skiing, climbing, all that
- 0:53stuff. I did all that in high school.
- 0:56I'm, I'm from Denver. I'm from watch this Commerce
- 1:00City, Co. OK, I, I got to ask, is there
- 1:06anybody in the room from Commerce City, Co?
- 1:09Amen, brother, Amen. Kearney Junior High, Remember
- 1:12Kearney Junior High and Adam City High School.
- 1:15They tore our high school down for some reason.
- 1:17I don't know. But anyways, I, I come and some
- 1:20of my friends here today, I come from, you know what good can
- 1:23come out of Commerce City, Co because way back in the day,
- 1:27man, that was a bad, that was a bad place to grow up.
- 1:31Really bad. I was into motorcycles.
- 1:37I was only 14 when I got my first one, 1516, man, I was
- 1:40decked out at 16. I had a 350 Honda that I thought
- 1:44was bad. And on a Saturday morning in
- 1:47June 1972, me and Big Moose, that was the name of my best
- 1:54friend, we went riding at Welby Hill way back in the day.
- 1:59And I flipped that motorcycle at about 45 miles an hour.
- 2:04And underneath that motorcycle, I met Jesus, or should I say
- 2:10Jesus met me like close and personal.
- 2:14And you know that wrestling match that we all kind of go
- 2:17through sometimes with the Lord. I, I knew this is it.
- 2:20So I, I, uncle, I need to go to heaven.
- 2:22I don't have to go to hell. This saved my life.
- 2:25This all happened in milliseconds, you might say.
- 2:28He found me and I said yes. Well, what?
- 2:31I didn't know that would change the rest of my life.
- 2:36You know, I want to go to heaven.
- 2:37Just don't make me a preacher. Oh, he did.
- 2:45He did. I went to Bible college, met my
- 2:48wife. We got married 1980, graduated
- 2:52from Western Bible College that used to be up by Red Rocks,
- 2:55Today it's Colorado Christian University.
- 2:58Got a phone from Amarillo by morning.
- 3:02Went down there and I thought, you've got to be kidding.
- 3:06You've got to be kidding. So I'll do this for a couple of
- 3:09years. Lord, 44 years later, he was not
- 3:13kidding. Know everything I love about
- 3:16Colorado? We don't have it in Amarillo.
- 3:18We don't have trees, water, grass, mountains, you name it.
- 3:22You know the way I look at it, a wagon was going West.
- 3:26It broke down and they said just call it Amarillo, which means
- 3:30yellow. I come from yellow today.
- 3:33I love it. I didn't know in 1985 that God
- 3:42would have me at 29 to start a church in a gas station.
- 3:45I didn't know that 17 of us homeboys kind of thing and Bible
- 3:52study and we didn't know what we were doing.
- 3:54But I did know you got to give this book because God never
- 3:59promises to honor a man or a denomination.
- 4:02He promises to honor his word. So any crazy guy out of Commerce
- 4:07City, if you just give people God's word, he'll bless it.
- 4:12That was 39 years ago and 23 years ago.
- 4:18I mean, I wasn't Calvary when I first got started, but then
- 4:21Calvary's kind of found me. And then 23 years ago, I met
- 4:25this kid in California, sat down right next to me, Ed Taylor, and
- 4:34said, well, where are you going? He said Aurora, Co Aurora well
- 4:38after Commerce City. Well, that's where Cindy and I
- 4:40lived. We lived in Aurora.
- 4:41And my, my family, we're all police officers here in Aurora
- 4:45or worked for the Police Department, both.
- 4:48I mean, you're going to Aurora. I've got family there.
- 4:52Well, that was the beginning. And that young kid grew up.
- 4:56He's your pastor. I'm humbled by him.
- 5:00You know what makes him successful?
- 5:02The Word. The word, the word and the Holy
- 5:05Spirit. It's God's grace.
- 5:07It's God's goodness. So I'm just saying thank you.
- 5:10That's all I got for today. Have a nice day.
- 5:15I do want to say thank you for refresh.
- 5:18Amarillo's about 7 hours from here and you know your church
- 5:24and my church and staff to staff.
- 5:26We are tied together today. Ed Taylor is my pastor.
- 5:30Chuck Smith died. I need a pastor.
- 5:33I'm telling you he's anointed. I don't have to tell you that
- 5:35he's anointed. And today, and so my staff down
- 5:38there and refresh, we come up somewhere between 50-60 guys
- 5:42from my church come up here and we have a blast.
- 5:45So I'm saying thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank
- 5:47you. We'll be back If the Lord
- 5:49Terry's in October, if he doesn't, Terry, I hope you're
- 5:52not here, that you know Jesus, we're all going to heaven.
- 5:55Amen. So I'm an old guy, I'm an old
- 5:59guy. And you start thinking, OK,
- 6:03after 52 years with Jesus, 52 years, what's the one thing I
- 6:09would pass on? What's like, what's the one
- 6:11thing I've got? But what's the one thing?
- 6:14And so thank you for being gracious enough to be here.
- 6:17I want to share that with you today.
- 6:19If you have your Bible turn to Luke chapter 10.
- 6:21I want to talk about the one thing, the number one thing that
- 6:24we should all be so thankful that we have this opportunity.
- 6:28Luke chapter 10, verse 38, Don't trust a pastor.
- 6:31Make sure what I'm telling you is right out of the book.
- 6:34Keep track with me, I might trick you a little bit.
- 6:37Chapter 10, verse 38. Now it happened as they went
- 6:43that he, Jesus, entered a certain village that would be
- 6:47Bethany, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him into
- 6:53her house. It's always good to welcome the
- 6:56Lord Jesus. He goes where He's welcomed.
- 7:01He chose you, but you need to choose Him back.
- 7:05She welcomed Him in her house. She had a sister called Mary who
- 7:12also along with Martha who also sat at Jesus feet and heard His
- 7:19word. Mary would sit at the feet of
- 7:25Jesus and she would hear. She would listen to His word.
- 7:30That's actually the position of a disciple with Jesus being her
- 7:35rabbi. That's where she wanted to be.
- 7:39That's the best place to be hanging out with Jesus,
- 7:43listening, obeying his word. But Martha.
- 7:51But Martha was distracted with much serving and she approached
- 7:59Jesus and said, Lord, Lord, do you not care that my sister has
- 8:04left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.
- 8:15Martha was so into serving the Lord.
- 8:17I don't know what the kitchen looked like, but she's getting
- 8:21it all decked out and she wants it all to be perfect.
- 8:23I mean, Jesus is in the house. She starts looking around.
- 8:30Where's my little sister? Oh, great.
- 8:32She's over there worshipping Jesus.
- 8:34Oh, great. I'm busy.
- 8:37Isn't that something that once you start serving the Lord, I
- 8:39mean, you did it because you love it.
- 8:40You love it, You jump in, and then before long you start
- 8:43looking around it. Well, I think I'm doing more
- 8:45than anybody else. I think nobody's helping me.
- 8:48Hey, Lord, Martha became crabby. Martha's out of joint.
- 8:56She's distracted even with serving the Lord.
- 9:02Be careful of distractions. We all have stuff we've got to
- 9:06get done, but don't let that stuff get in the way of the
- 9:09number one thing to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear Him, even
- 9:15if your older sister doesn't get it.
- 9:18Therefore, tell her to to help me.
- 9:21Jesus answered and gave Martha leprosy.
- 9:28Just check. And I told you I was going to
- 9:30check on you. He didn't give her leprosy.
- 9:32He gave her fleas. No, he didn't give her fleas
- 9:35either. Don't you love Jesus?
- 9:40I, I think Martha just needs a, a talking to.
- 9:42I think he needs a little bit of that evil eye.
- 9:44No, no, he, Jesus looked at Martha and he said to her,
- 9:48Martha, Martha, can you hear Jesus saying that?
- 9:53Martha, Martha, you're so worried and troubled about so
- 9:57many things that distract you. You're worried and trouble about
- 10:01so many things, but one thing. OK, now I interact.
- 10:06So when I say one thing, can I hear you say one thing?
- 10:09Would you say one thing? You kind of did it.
- 10:12Not everybody did. But I'll give you another chance
- 10:14later. What's the one thing Jesus is
- 10:18about to say? One thing.
- 10:20I'm glad He didn't say 10 things or even 5 things He said, but
- 10:25one thing is needed and Mary has chosen.
- 10:29It was her choice. Mary has chosen that good part
- 10:34which will not be taken from her.
- 10:38Oh, what's the one thing, Lord Jesus, to sit at His feet and
- 10:45hear His word? See, Mary chose to do that.
- 10:51We make lots of choices every day.
- 10:54I'm glad you made the choice to be here this morning.
- 10:56You made that choice. I'm glad you're about to hear
- 10:59the Word. I hope that you'll listen to the
- 11:02word, not me, of Jesus and what he wants to share with you and
- 11:07that you'll find time. You'll figure out a way that
- 11:09that number one thing should be a part of your life forever,
- 11:13somewhere to find a place. Sit down with Jesus and say,
- 11:16hey, would you talk to me? He's been doing that to me for
- 11:2052 years. It's not let me down.
- 11:23Amen. Father, thank you for your word.
- 11:27Thank you for your word. Thank you for your Holy Spirit.
- 11:30Thank you for Jesus. We welcome here him here today.
- 11:35We don't assume that just because we gathered that he
- 11:37shows up. No, no, we want to invite him in
- 11:40and new and afresh to our hearts.
- 11:42Lord. So I thank you for these people.
- 11:47Would you bless us with your presence and your word and your
- 11:50spirit? Show us the value of what we
- 11:53need from you each and every day?
- 11:57It's in the sweet name of our Savior.
- 11:58And all of God's people would say, OK, Bill, so you're talking
- 12:02about DeVos, right? Yeah, I'm talking about DeVos.
- 12:04Your time with God, whether it's 10 minutes or an hour, whatever
- 12:08it is, you need to have some quiet time with the Lord.
- 12:11And you might say, well, why do I need to do that?
- 12:13I'm already saved. I'm going to heaven.
- 12:14I got all this other stuff. Well, you'll get encouraged,
- 12:18you'll find rest, you'll grow, you might get convicted, you'll
- 12:22get your life back in place. All of that's true.
- 12:25Plus, he's waiting for you. He is.
- 12:28He's actually excited when you come and spend time with him.
- 12:32Oh, plus you need the secret power to get through life.
- 12:45You see, hanging out with Jesus isn't just just rest or peace or
- 12:50growing over time there. There's a secret power He wants
- 12:55to give you so that you can get through your Monday when you're
- 13:01faced with all that stuff. So that you can get through this
- 13:03week when you already know what's coming.
- 13:05How you going to get through the week so that you can get through
- 13:09your marriage or your kids or school or dare I say, the
- 13:13elections? Oh, great.
- 13:15How are we going to get through that?
- 13:18Well, somebody better give me some power.
- 13:22Supernatural power. Oh, yes.
- 13:28It's enough for worship. It's enough to grow.
- 13:30It's enough to find peace. It's enough to find that little
- 13:33bit of rest. That is true.
- 13:35But you need to know there's more to this number one thing
- 13:39than just that list. Look at John Chapter 7, John
- 13:46Chapter 7. Real quick.
- 13:47Find verse 37. John Chapter 7, verse 37, one of
- 13:54the greatest paragraphs in the entire New Testament.
- 13:59Chapter 7, verse 37. On the last day, the great day
- 14:02of the feast, Jesus stood and started yelling, screaming.
- 14:10He cried out. That's very out of the character
- 14:14for Jesus. But on the last day of this
- 14:16great day feast, he stood and cried out, screaming.
- 14:20If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
- 14:25Now I got to pull a Greek on you a little bit.
- 14:27Just a little bit of Greek. That word that let him come to
- 14:31me and drink from me. That's in the imperative present
- 14:34tense. In other words, it's not a
- 14:36suggestion, it's a command, but it's a command in the present
- 14:39tense. Let him keep coming and keep
- 14:41drinking. If anyone thirsts, let him keep
- 14:44coming and keep drinking. He's yelling this on the last
- 14:48day of the great feast. If anyone thirsts, let him keep
- 14:53coming to me, keep drinking from me.
- 14:55He who believes in me, as the scripture said, out of his
- 14:58heart, his belly will flow rivers of living water.
- 15:02Jesus, what are you freaking out about?
- 15:07It's the last day of the great day of the feast.
- 15:11They had seven feasts that they would celebrate every year.
- 15:14The last feast at the end of the year was the Feast of
- 15:16Tabernacles. It was the most popular of all
- 15:19the feasts. The weather was usually good.
- 15:22The families would come. That's when they would set up
- 15:24tents and they would Tabernacle to remember the wilderness
- 15:27wanderings and the faithfulness of God.
- 15:29For seven days you would go camping with God.
- 15:32Oh, I'm in Jerusalem. You talk about a trip, it was a
- 15:38highlight, and they would remember all of those things
- 15:40that they learned from their Old Testament about the wanderings
- 15:44and the faithfulness of God. It was a celebration.
- 15:47And once a day they would go down to the Guillain Springs,
- 15:49they'd get a golden pitcher and they'd bring the water up on top
- 15:52of the Temple Mount and they would pour that water out to
- 15:55remember the water got it supplied for them miraculously
- 16:01from the rock. You guys remember that, right?
- 16:03The the water came out of the rock.
- 16:04You guys have been taught by. Yeah.
- 16:06That that rock was Christ that followed them through the
- 16:09Wilder. You remember that, right.
- 16:11So they're celebrating. They don't know it was Christ,
- 16:14not when they were there on that, but the last day of the
- 16:16great day of the feast. You see, when the last day
- 16:17comes, OK, the feast is over. We're packing up the tent, we're
- 16:21going back home. It's done.
- 16:23Matter of fact, the feasts are done.
- 16:26It was kind of a downer. Like, the feasts are over.
- 16:30Yeah, they're over. It'd be like the day after
- 16:32Christmas, you know, you look forward to Christmas, and all of
- 16:34a sudden it's Monday after Christmas.
- 16:36OK OK, Now what? Well, it was like that, only
- 16:39more so. But not only that, it was the
- 16:43last day of the great day of the feast.
- 16:44It was Jesus's last feast before the next one is Passover when he
- 16:49dies. So it was his last feast on the
- 16:53last day of his last feast on the Temple Mount.
- 16:57And he's been watching this for years.
- 16:59He's been watching this one for days.
- 17:01And he's watching all these people just go through the
- 17:03motions. They're they're keeping their
- 17:06Bibles. They're celebrating what they
- 17:09were never a part of. But they don't have the source.
- 17:15It's like a holy frustration, a religious frustration.
- 17:18It can even happen in a church. This church, you can come in and
- 17:23you watch all the others and they seem like they're
- 17:25celebrating, but somehow you're, you're missing something.
- 17:28That's why Jesus watching these people, he stood up and he cried
- 17:32out with a loud voice. Are you still thirsty?
- 17:43You see, even the Bible will not satisfy without Jesus.
- 17:48Religion will not satisfy without Jesus.
- 17:53And you can celebrate whatever, but if you don't have Jesus to
- 17:57where you keep coming and keep drinking from Jesus.
- 18:08I don't know if there's anybody old enough to remember Peggy Lee
- 18:10way back in 1969. Is that all there is?
- 18:15Is that all there is? If that's all there is, then
- 18:20let's keep dancing. Let's break out the booze and
- 18:24have a ball. If that's all there is, aren't
- 18:36you glad there's more to this than tradition ceremony?
- 18:44There is life in Jesus to when we keep drinking, we keep coming
- 18:52that somehow what did he say that if anyone, anyone is
- 18:56thirsty, keep coming to me. I let I love that it says
- 19:00anyone, any color, any background, any size, any shape,
- 19:03keep coming to me. Keep drinking from me and from
- 19:09your belly, from your heart, your belly, your innermost being
- 19:15will flow. This river of life, this river
- 19:19of living water. What are you talking about,
- 19:22Jesus? That somehow if I'm tapped into
- 19:25you, that somehow if I'm drinking from you, that there's
- 19:27going to be like what's coming out of me?
- 19:30Refreshment, living water. People will know you've been
- 19:34hanging with me. Well, what are you talking
- 19:38about? He's talking about the Holy
- 19:39Spirit. Notice, as he says in verse 39,
- 19:44but this he spoke concerning the Spirit whom those believing in
- 19:49Him would receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because
- 19:54Jesus was not yet glorified. What are you saying?
- 20:00Keep coming, keep drinking. When that's all hooked up, man,
- 20:05you're going to have this river of life coming out of you.
- 20:08People will notice it's a river of living water.
- 20:11The Holy Spirit will be coming out of you.
- 20:18Where are you saying this? That Jesus on the holy mountain
- 20:20right in front of the temple. They, they, they finished
- 20:22pouring out the water to celebrate the rock.
- 20:26Don't we know? Don't we know that when you get
- 20:28to the new temple, which they will build in the near, near
- 20:31future, and don't you know that the end of the tribulation when
- 20:34Jesus comes and he takes his throne, do you remember where
- 20:38the water comes out? We know that the living water is
- 20:40going to come right out of that temple.
- 20:42It's going to come down to the Kindred Valley and go right out
- 20:45to the Dead Sea. It won't be a Dead Sea anymore.
- 20:47That's where we go fishing in the Kingdom and the tree of life
- 20:50grows up. You guys know this, right?
- 20:52Right. It starts with water.
- 20:54It ends with water coming out of Christ.
- 20:56And remember with me that today He sits on the throne of your
- 20:59heart, of your heart. And when we keep going to him
- 21:03and drinking from him, guess what?
- 21:05That water from Christ, the Holy Spirit is supposed to be coming
- 21:09out of you. Does that represent your life?
- 21:22I mean, in your marriage, with your kids at work, at school,
- 21:25Are you the source of refreshment, encouragement that
- 21:30somehow the Spirit of God's just working through your giftedness
- 21:34in a way you can't explain? And you figured out I got to
- 21:39keep going and keep drinking. Keep going and keep drinking.
- 21:44Oh, I'm telling you what? It's the number one thing.
- 21:48That's why in John chapter 20, same book, chapter 20, Jesus did
- 21:55go to the cross. He did celebrate Passover.
- 21:57He is the Passover lamb for us, Day of resurrection, first
- 22:03Easter ever. On that Sunday, He's in the
- 22:05upper room. They're locked up.
- 22:07Do you remember what Jesus said to those disciples in John
- 22:10chapter 20 verse 22? And when he had said this, he
- 22:14breathed on them and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit.
- 22:20What the resurrected Christ who had already paid for their sins,
- 22:24conquered their sins. The first thing he does, he
- 22:27breathed on them and said, receive the Holy Spirit.
- 22:37You talk about changing your life.
- 22:40They never had the Holy Spirit in them.
- 22:42They've never been sealed with the Spirit before.
- 22:45And it's like God's been waiting since the garden.
- 22:47Now that the price has been paid, you should be able to
- 22:54identify with with that. But it's like when I got saved
- 22:57in 1972, sixteen year old, I didn't, I didn't know nothing.
- 23:00But all of a sudden something's in me.
- 23:02Who's in me? Who is that?
- 23:06That's the Holy Spirit. I didn't know it was the Holy
- 23:08Spirit. I just knew.
- 23:09I tried to cuss like I was cussing the day before and
- 23:11something, something was kicking me inside like you have to stop
- 23:14talking that way. Well, I need to go to church and
- 23:17take a ten step course on how to stop cussing.
- 23:21No, the Holy Spirit said stop that.
- 23:25So you got that one down. No, he's still working on my
- 23:27speech. There's I mean, there's all
- 23:29these other steps. He never don't you, you guys
- 23:33remember, remember I remember when I was 16, I I tried going
- 23:37out here on Colfax again. I say out here, way over there,
- 23:40I lived right off of Colfax and stuff I should have never been
- 23:43doing. I got out there with the Holy
- 23:45Spirit inside of me, sealing me tell the day of redemption.
- 23:47And all of a sudden he kicked hard.
- 23:49I remember I got so sick I thought, I can never do this
- 23:51again. I haven't done it since.
- 23:53You know what that is? That's the Holy Spirit.
- 23:56Then the Holy Spirit comes along and encourages you in challenge
- 23:58you, and then you find you have a gift in this you never have
- 24:01never had before. And then he wants to flow
- 24:04through you. But you have to understand you
- 24:06are sealed with the Holy Spirit. If you don't have the Spirit of
- 24:09Christ, if you don't have the Spirit, Romans chapter 8, you're
- 24:11not saved. But if you're saved, you've got
- 24:14the Holy Spirit. He's got you.
- 24:16Can I hear it? Amen.
- 24:17Calvary Aurora. But did you know there's more
- 24:21than that? There's power.
- 24:28Oh, they got the spirit in John chapter 20.
- 24:31But forty days later, look at Acts chapter one.
- 24:36Same guys, 40 days later he had all kinds of questions about the
- 24:42Kingdom and Jesus said, no, you need to stay here.
- 24:45Verse eight, chapter one, verse 8, Acts chapter one, verse 8.
- 24:48But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
- 24:53you, and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem and all of
- 24:58Judea, Samaria and to the end of the earth.
- 25:02Amarilla by morning is the end of the earth.
- 25:07Now wait, wait, wait. We got those.
- 25:09I know you got the Holy Spirit, but you have another aspect of
- 25:12the Holy Spirit. You'll receive power.
- 25:15I like the word power. I, I want to know what that word
- 25:18power really means. Matter of fact, in the Greek
- 25:20it's dunamis. That's where we get the word
- 25:22dynamite. If you're from Amarillo, we have
- 25:27this place called Pantex. That's where they use all the
- 25:30plutonium and nuclear. Can I hear you say?
- 25:35Now give humor me a little bit. I'm going to ask you to say
- 25:38power, but I want you to say it powerfully.
- 25:41Power. Can I hear you say power?
- 25:45Is that what you have in your marriage?
- 25:48Do you have that with your kids? Do you have a supernatural power
- 25:52to get the job done? That's what he's talking about.
- 25:54Because you see, the Holy Spirit's going to come upon
- 25:56these disciples, fishermen, tax collectors, with such power,
- 26:00they will be witnesses. How does that happen?
- 26:03It's going to flow out of them. It's going to flow out of them.
- 26:07Well, now I'm confused. I lived a lot of my life
- 26:10confused. Now what?
- 26:11What is this aspect with the Holy Spirit?
- 26:14He was with me. He's in me.
- 26:15He's in me. I'm sealed.
- 26:17And now you're saying a power thing.
- 26:18Well, Chuck Smith was the first one to point this out to me.
- 26:22His book Living Water is down in your bookstore, the best book
- 26:26I've ever read on the Holy Spirit, Living Water by Chuck
- 26:28Smith. But he pointed out in the
- 26:31prepositions, in the Greek prepositions, you got to
- 26:34understand there's 33 distinct prepositions.
- 26:39There's the word with para in the Greek, the Holy Spirit with
- 26:43you. There's the the the Greek
- 26:45preposition in EN is in in the grief.
- 26:50That's the Holy Spirit in you. But what he used right here was
- 26:54the preposition EPI. EPI is a pond.
- 26:57That's a whole aspect different than with and in the water is
- 27:08with me. Para boy, it tasted good.
- 27:20The water now is in me. Greek preposition in.
- 27:28Do you really want me to demonstrate the difference with
- 27:31the water upon me? Different aspect of the same
- 27:41Holy Spirit. Oh, trust me, In my church I've
- 27:46done this at least a dozen times.
- 27:48I lost a really good wireless mic doing it one time.
- 27:50I used way too much water. If you want to volunteer, I'd be
- 27:54happy to do the illustration on you afterwards.
- 27:58But see, there is a difference and the Holy Spirit upon you.
- 28:04People notice this Holy Spirit coming forth from your belly
- 28:08that Jesus taught people notice and they might not say it's the
- 28:12Holy Spirit, but they'll notice. Man, you, you're juiced with
- 28:15something, you're smoking something you're high on, it's
- 28:18the Lord, it's the Lord. Well, don't equate that to being
- 28:22high. What?
- 28:26Well, don't equate it to being drunk.
- 28:29What doesn't our Bibles tell us to equate it that way?
- 28:36They do. Look at Ephesians chapter 5.
- 28:38Ephesians chapter 50, by the way, when they received the Holy
- 28:42Spirit in Acts chapter 2 verse four, it actually says and they
- 28:47were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other
- 28:50tongues languages as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 28:53Peter preaches a sermon 3000 people get saved.
- 28:56It's amazing what happens when the power shows up, but then go
- 29:00to Ephesians chapter 5. My last reference for this
- 29:02sermon today, Ephesians chapter 5 verse fifteen.
- 29:07There we see Paul writing to the church.
- 29:10This is direct application to Calvary, Aurora, Ephesians 515.
- 29:15It says. See then, that you walk
- 29:17circumspectly, carefully, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming
- 29:23the time, because the days are evil.
- 29:26Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the
- 29:32Lord is. In the chapter he talked about
- 29:37walking in love. In the chapter he talked about
- 29:39walking in light. Now he talks about walking in
- 29:42wisdom. The days are evil.
- 29:48You better be wise how you walk, and you'd better walk according
- 29:54to the will of the Lord. Now when the Bible throws that
- 29:56down like it does right there, you've got to understand what
- 30:01the will of the Lord is that they're for covering most of
- 30:04that chapter. Therefore, you need to know what
- 30:07the will of the Lord is. Can I hear you say the will of
- 30:08the Lord whenever you see this is the will of God.
- 30:15What I'm about to read is an imperative.
- 30:17It's also in the present tense. It's not a suggestion, it's the
- 30:22will of God and do not get drunk with wine and which is
- 30:26dissipation, but be filled. There's the keyword X24, but be
- 30:32filled with the Spirit. It is the will of God for you
- 30:40not to be drunk with wine. I got one Amen from the back of
- 30:46the room. It is the will of God for you
- 30:57not to get drunk there. It is black and white.
- 31:02I would say it's the will of God for you not to get high.
- 31:05It's the will of God for you not to snort it up your nostril.
- 31:08Don't shoot it in your vein. It is the will of God not to be
- 31:13drunk with wine. I have a question.
- 31:23Why is he throwing that down there?
- 31:28I mean, it seems like a little bit out of place.
- 31:31He's walking about walking in love, walking in truth, walking
- 31:33in wisdom. He's the will of God not to get
- 31:35drunk. It's dissipation debauchery that
- 31:40is the will of God. But it seems disjointed a little
- 31:43bit to me. But he says in in contrast, but
- 31:48be filled with the spirit. Am I making this up?
- 31:51Is this you know it's the will of God that be drunk but
- 31:55contrast be filled with the spirit.
- 31:57Oh whoa, whoa, maybe This is why God did it.
- 32:00This is brilliant Lord, because everybody knows how to get
- 32:03drunk. Do you guys know how to get
- 32:08drunk? Did you know to get drunk you
- 32:11have to drink Jesus said keep coming keep drinking for me and
- 32:15it's the will of God for you not to be drunk with wine it's the
- 32:18will of God for you to be filled with the spirit.
- 32:20Do you see in the same sentence? Because.
- 32:23OK, I want to ask you, how many of you ever been drunk?
- 32:25You don't have to raise your hands, but I'll bet there's a
- 32:27few in this room that you've been drunk.
- 32:29Hey, stop it. It's the will of God for you not
- 32:31to be drunk. But how many of us would then
- 32:33know to be filled with the spirit?
- 32:34I I you're not tracking with me. I know.
- 32:37See. To get drunk, you got to have
- 32:39some booze. To get drunk, you got to have
- 32:43booze. You won't get drunk unless you
- 32:45drink it. So you can't drink it unless you
- 32:48got it right. Jesus said keep coming, keep
- 32:52drinking from me. What do you want me to do, Lord?
- 32:54I want you to drink from me so that you'll be filled if I said
- 32:58it this way. Don't miss out to be high on the
- 33:00Holy Spirit. But you got to drink.
- 33:03Well, I'm just waiting for it just to happen.
- 33:05Well, it ain't going to just happen.
- 33:07Even if you got it, even if you got it, it doesn't just happen.
- 33:11You got to drink it, guys. You got to open it up.
- 33:15No, I got it stuck away. Listen, you got to drink it.
- 33:18By the way, this is the real deal.
- 33:19I bought it from the liquor store right across the street.
- 33:23Well, that was interesting. I had Pastor Roy with me.
- 33:28By the way, your pastor knows that I've got it.
- 33:31I got permission for an illustration.
- 33:39You can know about it, agree about it, but if you don't drink
- 33:42it, you won't get drunk. You can agree with the sermon,
- 33:46agree with Jesus. You can do that.
- 33:48But if you don't drink, you won't get filled.
- 33:52You have to drink it. Oh, no, no.
- 33:54Why? I think I'll just memorize the
- 33:56label. That's what I'll do.
- 33:58That's got to be good, right? Jack Daniels, old #7 brand,
- 34:04Tennessee sour Mash Whiskey. I memorized the label.
- 34:08Well, great. I'm glad you memorized
- 34:11Scripture, but that won't get you filled well.
- 34:30Whoa. It really smells good.
- 34:41I know, I know, I know. I'll be.
- 34:46I'll be a sniffer for Jesus. I don't want to be, you know,
- 34:52full blown Pentecostal or Charismatic.
- 34:54I'll just be a sniffer, a whiffer.
- 35:00Well, you can, but guess what? That won't get you drunk.
- 35:07Well, maybe if I just taste it or sip it, that's it.
- 35:14We'll be sippers for Jesus. The only way to get drunk on
- 35:26this, to be filled with this, is I got to drink it.
- 35:32And some of you know far more than I.
- 35:35My daddy was an alcoholic. I literally probably only had
- 35:40what's in this cap of alcohol my entire life, even before I got
- 35:43saved. I never did alcohol.
- 35:45Too many demons, too much stuff. But I do know the illustration,
- 35:53you have to drink from Jesus to be high, to be filled, to have
- 35:59that river of life coming from you.
- 36:01And I really believe that's why in Ephesians it says that
- 36:03contrast, not to be drunk with wine, but to be filled with the
- 36:07Spirit. You know what would happen if I
- 36:10drank this? Nothing in the 1st 30 seconds, 3
- 36:18minutes, half hour later, probably you'd never have me
- 36:24back. See, it takes a while, a while
- 36:28for it to hit. But look at what the Bible says
- 36:30about the results here. The results.
- 36:33Don't be drunk with wine, that is dissipation, but be filled
- 36:36with the Spirit speaking to one another in psalms, hymns,
- 36:39spiritual songs. Oh, your conversation changes,
- 36:41singing, making melody with your heart to the Lord.
- 36:44Oh, your song changes, giving thanks always for all things to
- 36:47God the Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 36:50Oh, your Thanksgiving changes, submitting to one another in the
- 36:54fear of God. Oh, your submission, your
- 36:58helpfulness changes. Just like the guys at the bar on
- 37:03Friday night and they've been working all week.
- 37:07They finally get to the bar and what happens?
- 37:09They start drinking cores, Michelob, whatever it is.
- 37:11And before I know, their conversation, their talk changes
- 37:15toward what they're drinking. When you're full of the Holy
- 37:19Spirit, psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, say it just comes out of
- 37:22your mouth. It just does.
- 37:25Singing, making melody in your heart in the bar, those same
- 37:27guys that would never be caught dead singing on the job.
- 37:30Now they're doing the jig and dances around with each other
- 37:32like what happened? The hooch is taking over, by the
- 37:36way. When you're filled with the
- 37:36Spirit, you'll catch yourself humming.
- 37:38When you didn't tell yourself to hum, it just catches up with
- 37:42you. Thankfulness for all things you
- 37:45say. I can't be thankful for all
- 37:47things I know you can't. No one can.
- 37:50That's why they shoot drugs or get drunk or snort it.
- 37:55They're trying to find some relief from the stuff God says.
- 37:58You can be thankful Him. All things work together.
- 38:01Forgive to those that love the Lord when you're filled with the
- 38:04Spirit submitting one to another in the fear of Christ.
- 38:08Hank's got a flat on his truck. Friday night.
- 38:11He comes, I'm flat on my truck. And they all say, we'll help
- 38:14you, Hank. And they walk out there and they
- 38:16pick up the truck and they just put it back together.
- 38:19Where'd that come from? Oh, they want to help everybody.
- 38:22See, that's what the hooch does to people and what the Holy
- 38:26Spirit should be doing with you. What's the number one thing I
- 38:30need to hang out with Jesus? What's the number one thing I
- 38:33need to get a drink from Jesus? What's the number one thing I
- 38:38need the power of the Holy Spirit towards?
- 38:42Like a river living water coming out of here.
- 38:46You guys are smart Bible students, right?
- 38:48Let me say that again. Are you guys smart?
- 38:50You know your Bibles, right? Did I just walk through
- 38:53Scripture according to what Jesus said?
- 38:57Here it is. Let me prove where you need the
- 39:01power. 518 is key to the end of the book of Ephesians.
- 39:08Don't be drunk with wine, which is dissipation.
- 39:10Be filled with the Spirit and then all of a sudden verse 22,
- 39:13it says, wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord.
- 39:18You need another drink from Jesus wives, husbands, verse 25,
- 39:25love your wives as Christ also loved the church.
- 39:28Well, if you only knew who I was married to.
- 39:29You need another drink husbands chapter 6 verse one children,
- 39:37obey your parents in the Lord. Now you know, I've had three
- 39:41kids and I've got 10 grandkids and mine just automatically
- 39:45listened to everything I told them.
- 39:48I just lied to you. My children need a drink from
- 39:52Jesus bond servants employees be obedient to those who are your
- 39:58masters, your bosses Wow do you ever need a drink for that one
- 40:03verse nine and you masters do the same to your employees.
- 40:08Hey bosses, you need a drink. Finally put on the whole armor
- 40:12of God. You better drink from Jesus
- 40:16before you do that. I'm just sharing with you when
- 40:20you walk through all of Ephesians.
- 40:22If you understand why that. It was said in such a way that
- 40:26fulfilled the words that Jesus said in John Chapter 7.
- 40:30That's why it's the most important thing.
- 40:33It'll make a difference in your marriage with your kids this
- 40:35week, in the world in which we live, because you will have a
- 40:43river of life coming out of your innermost being.
- 40:46Some somehow they'll people a sense you're all wet.
- 40:49You're something something. Your giftedness will have stuff
- 40:53to it, it's just, well, you'll make a difference.
- 40:57That's why God left you here. Not for you to come up with it,
- 41:00not for you to just survive, but for you to thrive.
- 41:05Keep coming to me, keep drinking from me, keep coming to me, keep
- 41:09drinking from me. And from your belly a river of
- 41:15life will flow. Did you have a week like that
- 41:23last week? Did you have a yesterday like
- 41:30that was your yesterday one to where you hung out with Jesus
- 41:35and you said Lord, I just need another drink.
- 41:37I do, I do, I do. I come into church this morning.
- 41:42Did you have a a Sunday morning like that?
- 41:46Sunday's not over. You still have time for a drink
- 41:51from the Lord Jesus. Isn't that good news?
- 41:56That's the way I want to spend the rest of my life.
- 41:59The number one thing, keep coming to Jesus.
- 42:04Keep drinking from Jesus. Keep being filled with the Holy
- 42:09Spirit. Amen.
- 42:13I love you guys. Enjoy your next drink with
- 42:16Jesus. Father, thank you for your word
- 42:19today. Thank you that you figured this
- 42:27out for us, Lord, before anything was.
- 42:29And I thank you that most in the room, we know what it is to get
- 42:34saved. We know what it is when the Holy
- 42:36Spirit invades our life. And we do know what it is when
- 42:41we're filled with the Spirit. I think most of us know that.
- 42:48Remind us, Lord, keep sitting at your feet and hearing your word
- 42:52and drinking from you or else we're going to end up crabby
- 42:56like Martha. Remind us, Lord, there really is
- 43:02another dynamic with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit upon us.
- 43:08And I pray, Lord, I just would pray.
- 43:10Lord Jesus, would you bless my friends right now in this room
- 43:13and the ones listening, the ones on YouTube?
- 43:16Would you bless us, Lord, with your Holy Spirit and that from
- 43:20our innermost being that Lord, a fresh drink with you that that
- 43:24Lord we would be controlled and filled by the Holy Spirit.
- 43:30The things we'll face later today and whatever restaurant,
- 43:34whatever gathering back to work tomorrow.
- 43:36Lord, we need your power. We do thank you.
- 43:45Could be you're here today and somehow you just know that you
- 43:51need to say yes to Jesus. It's like he's knocking on the
- 43:55door of your your heart. He's chosen you, but you have to
- 43:58choose him back. You have to receive him.
- 44:01This could be the day of salvation for you.
- 44:07Or maybe that was true for you when years gone by, but it's
- 44:10been so long and so far you're not even sure anymore.
- 44:13Well, then I would just encourage you to open the door
- 44:18again, have a fresh connection with the living Lord Jesus.
- 44:28Or it might be you're in the room and you have been
- 44:29struggling. You've been struggling and
- 44:32there's an addiction. There is a part of this sermon
- 44:36that it's got you wrapped up tight.
- 44:46It could be alcohol, it could be drugs, it could be a dozen other
- 44:49things, but you know, and Jesus wants to free you of that with
- 44:57the power of his Spirit. So as we close this, I'm just
- 45:03going to man, if God's talking to you for salvation,
- 45:08rededication, or he wants to anoint you in a special way, I'm
- 45:14just going to ask you to stand. Let's pray together for the
- 45:19power of God to save us, the power of God to refresh us, the
- 45:25power of God to get through another crazy week.
- 45:29But we don't have to be crazy with them.
- 45:32If that's you, I'm going to ask you to stand.
- 45:33Anybody in the room that wants to join me in that kind of
- 45:37prayer? Thank you, brother.
- 45:39Is there anybody else? Thank you, brother.
- 45:43Thank you, brother. Thank you, brother.
- 45:46Thank you, sister. Thank you back there.
- 45:49Thank you, guys. Thank you.
- 45:54You're not satisfied somehow. It's not working.
- 45:57Thank you, sister. Thank you, guys back here.
- 46:00And Jesus, you're saying hey, it's the last day.
- 46:05He's at yelling come to me, drink for me, come to me, drink
- 46:11for me. Thank you, brother.
- 46:13Anybody else before we close, Thank you sister, thank you.
- 46:26Thank you sister. Thank you Father.
- 46:34I thank you for all these that would be standing right now and
- 46:37you know why they're standing for some, I'm sure, salvation.
- 46:43Others, Lord, they, they want to know they're connected and
- 46:47others that that thing, that evil thing needs to go.
- 46:56Would you bless them, Lord, with the power of the Holy Spirit
- 47:01upon them for salvation and for victory?
- 47:07That Lord together, Calvary Aurora would be the kind of
- 47:11place we drink deep from Jesus the Holy Spirit empowers us for
- 47:17things we would have never imagined.
- 47:22And in these last days, Lord, that you would have all the
- 47:25glory, you would receive the praise.
- 47:28You're the only one that's worthy.
- 47:30Save us, Lord, I ask, for the glory of Jesus, and all God's
- 47:34people would say we. Pray that you've been encouraged
