Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / ITB Postgame Show: Where Do Eagles Go From Here After Fourth Straight Loss?
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everybody.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to the Inside the Birds post-game show. I'm Jeff Mosher.
- 0:15Speaker 2: That's Adam Kaplan. I'm here at Lincoln Financial Field after
- 0:18Speaker 2: the Eagles have lost a fourth straight game. They lost
- 0:22Speaker 2: to the Carolina Panthers 25-14 in Week 6. Adam, this
- 0:27Speaker 2: is their longest losing streak since the 2020 season. And
- 0:32Speaker 2: we all remember how the 2020 season went and ended.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It was not good, and the after part of that
- 0:38Speaker 2: was a lot of changes. There's a lot to talk
- 0:42Speaker 2: about here. Some things to get into. I have some
- 0:44Speaker 2: questions about some of the things that the Eagles did,
- 0:47Speaker 2: but I also, as I look at it and I
- 0:49Speaker 2: say to myself, even if I got good answers to
- 0:52Speaker 2: the questions that I have, I'm not sure any one
- 0:54Speaker 2: of those things makes a difference. Right now, the Eagles
- 0:56Speaker 2: are in a bad state, but the one thing that
- 0:59Speaker 2: I keep falling back on is that you feel for
- 1:02Speaker 2: a defense that keeps.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Them in games, that keeps them in games.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And just, I mean, they cannot be asked to play
- 1:07Speaker 2: 70 some odd snaps and hold it together all the time,
- 1:10Speaker 2: especially against a team averaging 30 points a game. If
- 1:13Speaker 2: they could just get a little bit more out of
- 1:15Speaker 2: their offense, Adam, they might actually be able to steal
- 1:18Speaker 2: victories here.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 4: And the, the, the Panthers let him back in the
- 1:22Speaker 4: game where they really shouldn't have, but this is another
- 1:24Speaker 4: game they never led. Yep.
- 1:26Speaker 3: So many negative plays. It's just embarrassing.
- 1:30Speaker 4: You know, I got to give a zero of arrow, the,
- 1:33Speaker 4: the defense coordinator credit of the Panthers. He saw what
- 1:37Speaker 4: the Jaguars did. Jaguars stupidly didn't blitz the Eagles really
- 1:40Speaker 4: a lot until the second half.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:42Speaker 4: And then the dam broke. And then what does he
- 1:43Speaker 4: do on the first play? He caught, they bring it.
- 1:46Speaker 4: They hit Tanner McKee repeatedly. In fact, he was officially
- 1:50Speaker 4: hit 11 times. I'd love to know what the actual
- 1:53Speaker 4: pressure rate was.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:55Speaker 4: It was embarrassing. This is the first time all season. Well,
- 2:00Speaker 4: I shouldn't say that. The Bear game, they look unprepared.
- 2:02Speaker 3: But there are some other things going on.
- 2:05Speaker 4: But, yes, they look like they weren't ready to play.
- 2:08Speaker 4: After being really looking like they were ready to play,
- 2:11Speaker 4: despite all the issues going in the Jacksonville game. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 4: they blew that game, blew the Rams game. But, I mean,
- 2:16Speaker 4: Sean Manning looks way behind, let's be honest. I thought
- 2:20Speaker 4: you had a good text to me. You and I
- 2:22Speaker 4: were texting during the game some of our thoughts before
- 2:25Speaker 4: the game, based on what we think it might look like.
- 2:29Speaker 4: And you were talking about the quick game. I didn't
- 2:32Speaker 4: understand why they didn't do that. You have a guy
- 2:35Speaker 4: who had two days with the ones, a quarterback, plus
- 2:37Speaker 4: a walkthrough. Get the ball out of his hands quickly.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Particularly because you've got three offensive line changes. You've only
- 2:42Speaker 4: got two starters left. I just didn't like it. So
- 2:46Speaker 4: as the late, great Stan Hockman once said of the
- 2:48Speaker 4: Philadelphia Daily News, what a disaster.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It really was. It was.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And that was one of my bigger question marks. And
- 2:56Speaker 2: like I said, I don't know if.
- 2:59Speaker 2: If they do something differently here that they win this game,
- 3:02Speaker 2: they are really facing an uphill battle. And to add
- 3:05Speaker 2: some context, I think it's important before I even start
- 3:08Speaker 2: questioning things.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Right. They did not.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Some of the optimism that they had about the offensive
- 3:13Speaker 2: line just didn't come to fruition. Obviously, Landon Dickerson did
- 3:16Speaker 2: not get taken off IR.
- 3:18Speaker 1: For this game.
- 3:19Speaker 2: And then Drew, I watched them work out Drew Kendall
- 3:22Speaker 2: on the field prior to the game. And you can
- 3:24Speaker 2: tell he didn't look, I mean, the whole medical staff
- 3:27Speaker 2: were there. I believe Howie was there. They were working
- 3:29Speaker 2: him out. It's not that I could tell when you're
- 3:32Speaker 2: just taking snaps, right? That's what they were doing, taking
- 3:33Speaker 2: snaps in the end zone. It's not like I could
- 3:35Speaker 2: tell how he feels there. But when he was done,
- 3:38Speaker 2: he looked to me like he was hobbling back to
- 3:40Speaker 2: the locker room. So that gave me a clue that
- 3:42Speaker 2: he probably wasn't going to play and it was going
- 3:44Speaker 2: to be Majors and Lampkin again. So that context is important.
- 3:47Speaker 2: They are facing an uphill challenge every week. with that
- 3:50Speaker 2: interior offensive line and no flashy running backs. And then,
- 3:53Speaker 2: of course, Carson Steele gets hurt.
- 3:55Speaker 3: They actually had one, but they refused to play him.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Well, that's going to be my second question. Let's just
- 4:01Speaker 2: get to the first thing because you and I are
- 4:02Speaker 2: in agreement on this.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I thought this would be the game where maybe going
- 4:07Speaker 2: under center, even though that's your offensive staple, is not
- 4:09Speaker 2: a great idea, which we talked about in the pregame show,
- 4:12Speaker 2: because you want quick game, you want McKee to see
- 4:15Speaker 2: the defense, and you want to be able to throw
- 4:16Speaker 2: it immediately. Under center passing is just by nature a
- 4:21Speaker 2: slower developing play. You have to fake the handoff, you
- 4:24Speaker 2: have to turn around, and then you have to survey
- 4:26Speaker 2: the defense. The first play of the game, for them,
- 4:29Speaker 2: they go under center, and he takes an 11-yard sack.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And I don't have this. I definitely I didn't chart all.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Of it, but I can guarantee you and I can't
- 4:37Speaker 2: wait to redo inside the data this week and really
- 4:40Speaker 2: get into the numbers. I guarantee you their EPA for
- 4:42Speaker 2: under center had to be atrocious. And I'm I kind
- 4:45Speaker 2: of wonder why they even continued with it as the
- 4:48Speaker 2: game went on.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yes. All right. Let's let's kind of unpack. And just
- 4:53Speaker 3: talking to coaches over the years when you're shorthanded, you
- 4:57Speaker 3: try to take advantage of what you do have. So
- 4:59Speaker 3: this is nothing that annoys me. So.
- 5:01Speaker 4: You have Elijah Moore, we've joked, as the designated motion player.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Why is Hollywood Brown even on the team if you're
- 5:07Speaker 4: not going to use him, okay? He was a healthy
- 5:08Speaker 4: and active. I say this, he did not have a
- 5:10Speaker 4: game status designation. That means not questionable, not doubtful, out, okay?
- 5:15Speaker 4: Doesn't mean his injury went away. He still has the injury,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but he practiced. He took the normal amount of reps
- 5:19Speaker 4: he would take. He was healthy enough to play. They
- 5:21Speaker 4: didn't play him. So there goes your downfield threat, okay?
- 5:24Speaker 4: Jaden Blue is in the NFL because of one reason.
- 5:26Speaker 4: He's explosive, okay?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 5:29Speaker 4: He had to be active because he only had three
- 5:31Speaker 4: running backs for the game. Carson Steele, unfortunately, hurt his shoulder.
- 5:33Speaker 3: It looked bad. He couldn't come back. You're down the
- 5:37Speaker 3: entire game.
- 5:39Speaker 4: I understand you don't want to ask him to be
- 5:41Speaker 4: in pass protection.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You probably don't want to do that. That's fine. But
- 5:44Speaker 3: on first down, when the game was relatively close, you're
- 5:46Speaker 3: not getting blown out before they got blown out at
- 5:49Speaker 3: the end.
- 5:50Speaker 4: You can't put him in as a changeup. That's bad coaching.
- 5:52Speaker 4: You as coaches have that power to try something different.
- 5:58Speaker 4: That's the problem I have. I see it way different
- 6:00Speaker 4: than probably the fans do with this. I look at
- 6:03Speaker 4: it from a coach's view. This is what I'm given.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I don't control the guys who are not playing. I
- 6:07Speaker 4: have nothing to do with that. I don't control injuries.
- 6:10Speaker 4: But how about I take advantage of what the general manager.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Has given me?
- 6:13Speaker 4: $ 5 million, you don't think enough of this guy.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You're not going to play him? Really? Why is he here?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Continuing the usage question that we have, because I agree
- 6:26Speaker 2: with you. I thought It looks to me, and I
- 6:29Speaker 2: think it was pretty early you could tell, they were
- 6:30Speaker 2: not going to try to run the ball.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Good idea. You don't have a good offensive line. You
- 6:34Speaker 1: don't have an explosive running back.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So their idea was to try to throw it into
- 6:38Speaker 2: the flats with Damian Pierce. Okay, why don't you try
- 6:43Speaker 2: to throw it in the flats of someone who has
- 6:45Speaker 2: explosion like a Jadon Blue? And the answer from the
- 6:49Speaker 2: coaches is he's never played for us. He's only been
- 6:52Speaker 2: in our system for a little bit. He was only
- 6:54Speaker 2: there for insurance reasons. I would have said, well, what
- 6:57Speaker 2: do you have to lose? That's what I said. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 2: like you were saying, what do you have to lose?
- 7:03Speaker 2: He's a functional player. He knows how to go line
- 7:05Speaker 2: up and catch a pass that might be open in
- 7:07Speaker 2: the flat.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Well, that's a lot to ask, but I'm just saying
- 7:09Speaker 4: as a running back, if he screws up, if it's
- 7:13Speaker 4: a toss right and it goes left, pull.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Him out of the game. Okay, he screwed it up.
- 7:16Speaker 3: He doesn't go back in. I get that. I totally
- 7:17Speaker 3: get that from a coaching standpoint, but you just nailed it.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Just in terms of explosion, your two most explosive players
- 7:25Speaker 4: Two of the most explosive are Hollywood Brown, who's here
- 7:28Speaker 4: because he could run. At least we thought he could.
- 7:30Speaker 4: You have to wonder now, why aren't they playing him?
- 7:34Speaker 4: He was healthy enough to play. And Jaden Blue, who
- 7:37Speaker 4: was drafted where he was. He had off-the-field stuff, which
- 7:41Speaker 4: we've talked about, and the Cowboys were done with him.
- 7:43Speaker 4: But the Eagles brought him in.
- 7:44Speaker 3: He's explosive. Let him play, man.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Because you're grasping for stuff now. You're looking for something.
- 7:50Speaker 4: And look, Smitty played. Wicks got hurt. It looked bad,
- 7:53Speaker 4: and it came back in. We'll see if he's even
- 7:54Speaker 4: able to play. next Monday night against the Cowboys, but
- 7:58Speaker 4: lemon play, like they had terms of their pets past
- 8:00Speaker 4: target group.
- 8:01Speaker 3: They're there. Okay. And you saw some swing passes.
- 8:05Speaker 4: You saw the willingness of, of Tanner McKee to be
- 8:09Speaker 4: able to dump the ball off.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:10Speaker 3: At least that's something. But as you said, Damian Pierce,
- 8:13Speaker 3: he's not explosive at all. He's a straight ahead runner. Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Less than three yards to carry. Like, what are we
- 8:18Speaker 3: doing here? Can you try to help yourself out as a, like,
- 8:21Speaker 3: this is just not good coaching. I'm sorry. I know
- 8:23Speaker 3: it might be minor. Some people, But I just have
- 8:25Speaker 3: learned from Covenant's business 27 years, you can't make excuses
- 8:29Speaker 3: for the things you don't have. Take advantage of what
- 8:31Speaker 3: you have. And they're not doing that.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Look, it's one thing if they didn't deserve to be
- 8:35Speaker 4: in the National Football League, okay? Hollywood Browns have been
- 8:37Speaker 4: in the league a long time. The guy's a former
- 8:39Speaker 4: first-round pick. And Blue is a guy who's explosive.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Just try something. Let's move on. You nailed it when
- 8:45Speaker 3: you said, what do you have to lose? Nothing. They
- 8:47Speaker 3: have nothing to lose. They're not going anywhere. Come on, man.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And I know that because you needed Jadon Blue at
- 8:54Speaker 2: least on the active roster for insurance, which wound up
- 8:59Speaker 2: being the case because Carson Steele did get hurt and
- 9:01Speaker 2: they still didn't get him in. I understand that made
- 9:03Speaker 2: your 53-man roster tricky because to have a player you
- 9:07Speaker 2: don't really want to play. And so you weren't able
- 9:09Speaker 2: to sign Zach Ertz. But I have to feel like
- 9:11Speaker 2: Howie could have figured out a way to get Zach
- 9:14Speaker 2: Ertz on the 53 at the expense of someone else
- 9:17Speaker 2: on the bottom of the roster. And I think a
- 9:19Speaker 2: guy like Ertz, again, if you were planning on doing
- 9:21Speaker 2: quick game and you needed some reliable guys that could
- 9:24Speaker 2: help you, you saw Goddard had a nice game. Ertz
- 9:26Speaker 2: can do a lot of those things. You get them
- 9:28Speaker 2: both on the field at times. You might be able
- 9:30Speaker 2: to hit them in the middle. There was nothing over
- 9:33Speaker 2: the middle of the field except for– Goddard, and I
- 9:35Speaker 2: can't even say Goddard because a lot of his catches
- 9:37Speaker 2: were on out routes as well. So, again, we could
- 9:41Speaker 2: argue about all this, and I think it's a bad job,
- 9:44Speaker 2: but I don't know that if the reverse situation happens
- 9:47Speaker 2: that they win that game.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But you want to at least give yourself a better chance.
- 9:50Speaker 3: That's it. It's not about arguing. It's about this is
- 9:52Speaker 3: what you have at your disposal. Use them, okay?
- 9:55Speaker 4: Yes, Blue had to be on the game day roster
- 9:58Speaker 4: because they had three running backs. you can't go into
- 10:00Speaker 4: a game as i said on pregame show with two
- 10:02Speaker 4: you can't do that then steel gets hurt early on
- 10:05Speaker 4: a pass and that's somewhere he could he could have
- 10:08Speaker 4: helped them but they're they're in a tough way man
- 10:10Speaker 4: this is this is this is a tough deal and
- 10:14Speaker 4: you know the defense did the best it could they
- 10:16Speaker 4: got another injury no one smith suffered the concussion Yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 3: He left the first half.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Jordan Davis was also limping in the locker room after
- 10:25Speaker 2: the game. Yep.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Not good. And Keyshawn James Newby, some would argue probably
- 10:28Speaker 3: not an NFL player. He's only on the roster because
- 10:33Speaker 3: they ran out of players. They needed more edges.
- 10:34Speaker 4: So we'll see what the tape looks like. I'm interested
- 10:37Speaker 4: to see if Campbell will line up as an edge rusher.
- 10:39Speaker 4: A lot of the times when he's lined up on
- 10:41Speaker 4: the edge, it's more of an add-in defender against the run.
- 10:44Speaker 4: But I want to see if he's a true edge
- 10:46Speaker 4: rusher or not. I'm curious because they have to do it.
- 10:48Speaker 4: They're running out of players. What are they going to
- 10:50Speaker 4: do now?
- 10:51Speaker 2: Everything in life comes down to choice, doesn't it? Whether
- 10:54Speaker 2: it's choosing the team you root for, who you listen to,
- 10:57Speaker 2: or how you power your home, you deserve the freedom
- 11:00Speaker 2: to choose your own adventure. And that goes for your
- 11:02Speaker 2: power bill too. Right now across the U.S., Americans have
- 11:05Speaker 2: the potential to harness limitless, clean, affordable energy. We could
- 11:09Speaker 2: be powering our hospitals, our schools, our farms, and so
- 11:12Speaker 2: much more. In some places, this abundant local power is
- 11:16Speaker 2: already helping lower utility bills and creating jobs. But depending
- 11:21Speaker 2: on where you live, you may not have the option
- 11:23Speaker 2: to choose Limitless Energy for your household. That has to change.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We should all get to choose the energy we pay for. Cheaper, cleaner,
- 11:32Speaker 2: Limitless Energy is out there.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Let's find more ways to use it.

- 11:40Speaker 2: Fall is the season where everyone gets busier. More calls,
- 11:44Speaker 2: more customers, more chances for something to slip through the
- 11:47Speaker 2: cracks and And staying ahead means having the right system,
- 11:50Speaker 2: not just working harder. That's why today's episode is brought
- 11:54Speaker 2: to you by Quo, spelled Q-U-O, the business phone system

- 12:27Speaker 1: That's a great question.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And that really leads me to my, what I want,
- 12:30Speaker 2: you know, in 20 some odd years of being in
- 12:33Speaker 2: locker rooms, I feel like I'm not a therapist or
- 12:37Speaker 2: I don't have a psych major, but I have a
- 12:39Speaker 2: good idea when Guys are out of answers, okay? And
- 12:43Speaker 2: they're saying the right things, but they're also saying them,
- 12:46Speaker 2: and you can read their faces where they're also out
- 12:49Speaker 2: of answers.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And poor Jordan Mailata.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Who I respect a lot, he walked into the locker
- 12:54Speaker 2: room and said, I'm ready, stood in the middle of
- 12:56Speaker 2: the locker room, and said, let's all talk, right?
- 12:58Speaker 1: He didn't make anybody wait. He knew the questions were there.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Remember, with no Lane Johnson, with no Brandon Graham, he
- 13:05Speaker 2: is now, him and Jordan Mailata, are what I will
- 13:07Speaker 2: say the elder state him in, I'm sorry, Dallas Goddard
- 13:11Speaker 2: are the elder statement statesman. Obviously Jake Elliott is the
- 13:15Speaker 2: elder statement, but he's a kicker. So those guys have
- 13:18Speaker 2: been on team longest. And, you know, I did talk
- 13:20Speaker 2: to Jordan just about, Hey, what do you remember from
- 13:23Speaker 2: 2020 when you were a young player and you had
- 13:25Speaker 2: those guys being leaders? And he said, body language, important,
- 13:29Speaker 2: setting the tone, important, not letting people getting sucked into
- 13:32Speaker 2: the malaise.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Important.
- 13:33Speaker 2: But, you know, you can also tell from a lot
- 13:36Speaker 2: of Jordan's answers, like he was basically saying, it stinks now.
- 13:40Speaker 2: This is a great opportunity for guys like Markel Bell,
- 13:43Speaker 2: guys like Lampkin, guys like, who's the center?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Majors, right? Yeah, they'll get better.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And I said, but how do you reconcile the advantages
- 13:54Speaker 2: of getting better over the, you need to win before,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you know, you need to start winning games. And he said,
- 13:59Speaker 2: that is the challenge. And that's when you know guys
- 14:02Speaker 2: understand that They're out of answers. The answers are health,
- 14:05Speaker 2: but they're not all health, but it's a big part
- 14:07Speaker 2: of it. And we just don't know when this team
- 14:08Speaker 2: will ever be right from a health standpoint.
- 14:11Speaker 4: All right, let's go back to offense, then we'll hit
- 14:13Speaker 4: the defense and get out of here.
- 14:15Speaker 3: So McKee, he's a long release.
- 14:19Speaker 4: His stride, it's not an overstride like Wentz, but he's
- 14:22Speaker 4: got a long, like his legs are, it takes him
- 14:26Speaker 4: a long time to get the football out.
- 14:28Speaker 3: He gets hit, it gets deflected. Yes, there were some bad,
- 14:30Speaker 3: real bad pass pro in this game. Some confusion. Yep.
- 14:35Speaker 3: In fact, McKee, I listened to McKee's press conference.
- 14:38Speaker 4: He was, I'll say this, I know they lost. He
- 14:40Speaker 4: was sort of upbeat, like he knows what they have
- 14:41Speaker 4: to do to clean this up. I thought he was
- 14:45Speaker 4: very uneven, I'm putting it kindly. He had a couple
- 14:48Speaker 4: great throws to Smitty, great throws. But overall, he missed
- 14:50Speaker 4: some throws where the ball wouldn't come out right. It
- 14:54Speaker 4: just was not coming out right. I just, like, is
- 14:57Speaker 4: he not stepping into it? It's hard to see off TV,
- 14:59Speaker 4: but just uneven.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 15:02Speaker 4: They've got to get some explosion at running back. Damian
- 15:04Speaker 4: Pierce is basically a third-string running back at this point.
- 15:08Speaker 4: They need some juice. The coaches have to have a
- 15:10Speaker 4: talk with Howie. Either they're going to use Jaden Blue.
- 15:13Speaker 4: It's pronounced Jaden, by the way.
- 15:14Speaker 3: I looked it up. I thought it was Jadon, but
- 15:16Speaker 3: it's Jaden Blue.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Oh, okay, Jaden.
- 15:18Speaker 4: He's on the roster. Use him. Again, this is our buzzword.
- 15:22Speaker 4: What do you have to lose at this point? By
- 15:24Speaker 4: the way, the Giants found a way to lose to
- 15:26Speaker 4: the Saints. So this division, guess what it's becoming again?
- 15:30Speaker 4: The NFC least.
- 15:31Speaker 1: The NFC least.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It's back.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It is.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Total garbage.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And then, you know, commanders. I can't even imagine how
- 15:37Speaker 1: bad it's going to be for them Monday night.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Sure. But you never know about this business, right? When
- 15:41Speaker 3: you least expect it. It's true. Offensively, the good thing is,
- 15:45Speaker 3: I mean, Smitty played. Wicks played. Got hurt. Cooper, you
- 15:50Speaker 3: knew because Smitty's back. He's not going to be a factor.
- 15:52Speaker 3: There's no way. It's like we said before the season started.
- 15:54Speaker 3: If everyone's playing, he's not getting the ball. He just
- 15:56Speaker 3: didn't get the ball.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:57Speaker 4: That's a tough deal. the lack of passes inside the
- 16:03Speaker 4: numbers was concerning to me.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I don't get it. I saw a little bit, but
- 16:08Speaker 3: not nearly enough. Again, there are things that these coaches
- 16:11Speaker 3: could do. Okay. You can't blame it all on injuries.
- 16:14Speaker 3: I agree. Coaches don't do that.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I agree.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I think the biggest issue facing the Eagles, even when
- 16:20Speaker 2: they get healthier, let's say, say quiet comes back.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Let's say Hertz gets back. Who knows?
- 16:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:24Speaker 1: He's on IR.
- 16:26Speaker 2: The biggest issue right now they're going to face is
- 16:28Speaker 2: every defensive coordinator is is Brian Flores against them because
- 16:33Speaker 2: of their offensive line, specifically the interior offensive line. Every
- 16:36Speaker 2: defensive coordinator is just putting six, seven guys, double mugging,
- 16:40Speaker 2: zero blitzes. I mean, how many zero blitzes did the
- 16:43Speaker 2: Panthers bring?
- 16:44Speaker 1: Holy cow.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You know what's crazy? You know where the coordinator, Evero,
- 16:49Speaker 4: is from? He coached under Fangio. That's why he's running Fangio.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Well, he put a little salt and pepper in.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Cause he knew exactly what he was getting. That's called
- 17:00Speaker 3: good coaching. Sure. That's good coaching. And that's the Eagles
- 17:03Speaker 3: had no answer.
- 17:04Speaker 4: You've got Chris Cooper, the offensive line coach who he's still,
- 17:09Speaker 4: he's got to show me something. I know he's, I
- 17:11Speaker 4: know he's up against it with, he's playing three backups,
- 17:15Speaker 4: but we, you gotta be better here.
- 17:17Speaker 3: It was just, it was tough, man. It was tough.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I mean, it, You would have.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Thought the Panthers had 15 sacks in this game. They
- 17:26Speaker 4: had 11 quarterback hits. They had a bunch of guys
- 17:29Speaker 4: who got at least two. Devin Lloyd blitzed. Mayerig, the safety,
- 17:34Speaker 4: also plays nickel. Jalen Phillips got hurt in the game.
- 17:37Speaker 3: He left for a bit, came back, I thought. Lee Hunter,
- 17:40Speaker 3: the rookie.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Travis Gibson got in there for a hit. It's getting really,
- 17:48Speaker 4: really hard. And it's not like... It's not like anyone
- 17:52Speaker 4: else is coming back here on the offensive line. It's
- 17:53Speaker 4: just maybe Dickerson at some point. But with him, you
- 17:57Speaker 4: have no idea what to expect from him.
- 17:59Speaker 3: No idea.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Right. And that's my point is that for the rest
- 18:01Speaker 2: of the season, everybody's going to be Brian Flores against
- 18:04Speaker 2: the Eagles.
- 18:04Speaker 1: They are just going to bring the house. Absolutely. I
- 18:08Speaker 1: totally agree. I totally agree. So that is the problem.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And I will say this.
- 18:13Speaker 2: The reality and the truth that the Eagles need to
- 18:15Speaker 2: be better coached on offense is also– couched by the
- 18:20Speaker 2: fact that the Eagles chose to have a novice offensive
- 18:23Speaker 2: coordinator who has not called plays before. So you're asking
- 18:26Speaker 2: not only your players now who are young and inexperienced
- 18:29Speaker 2: to play above their means, but to get coached and
- 18:33Speaker 2: have their plays drawn up by a coordinator who's not
- 18:37Speaker 2: used to this and just getting his feet wet in
- 18:38Speaker 2: his own right.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And that just makes it like quicksand. So defensively, this
- 18:43Speaker 1: was like the.
- 18:44Speaker 2: The crux of my Philly voice story is that you
- 18:46Speaker 2: cannot ask a defense to be– the defense played really well.
- 18:50Speaker 2: You can talk about a big play here or there,
- 18:52Speaker 2: but into the fourth quarter, a team averaging 30 points
- 18:56Speaker 2: only had, what, 14, right, until they scored that last touchdown.
- 18:59Speaker 1: It did its job, but eventually it's going to break.
- 19:03Speaker 2: So I have zero critiques other than a few missed tackles.
- 19:06Speaker 2: They did a great job against the run game. For
- 19:09Speaker 2: a while.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Well, that's my point. I wrote this down.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Entering the fourth quarter, Hubbard was averaging 2.9 yards per carry.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Entering the fourth quarter.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Now, he finished with over 100 yards and averaged 4.3,
- 19:23Speaker 2: which is about his– that's the kind of running back
- 19:26Speaker 2: he is. He's a 4.3 on a good day. He's
- 19:27Speaker 2: not a great flashy running back.
- 19:29Speaker 3: They did a good job. He keeps his feet churning, though.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah, they did a good job. But I don't know
- 19:34Speaker 1: how much more you could ask of them. And even Vic.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Vic became Brian Flores for a little bit, right? He
- 19:39Speaker 2: was throwing– kitchen sink blitzes at the Panthers, and then
- 19:42Speaker 2: they caught on to it at the end.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's tough. I mean, it's not so much a
- 19:48Speaker 3: time of possession. The first half, it was actually one time.
- 19:50Speaker 3: of possession. The defense kept giving the ball back, and
- 19:53Speaker 3: they kept going out. It's embarrassing. I mean, it's really
- 19:58Speaker 3: hard to watch.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I don't feel 2020 because this team has way more
- 20:01Speaker 4: talent than 2020. I'm not saying this is a very
- 20:03Speaker 4: talented team, but they've got way more talent. Now, they
- 20:06Speaker 4: have a terrible injury situation, but But defensively, they had
- 20:10Speaker 4: enough guys there.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Now, a couple of things you should know. Grenard played hurt.
- 20:13Speaker 3: He was hobbled.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Despite not having a game status designation, he said Friday,
- 20:19Speaker 4: he made it pretty clear it's going to be a
- 20:20Speaker 4: game day decision whether he plays or not. And he
- 20:23Speaker 4: played early, like three or four snaps, and he went
- 20:26Speaker 4: in for a while. And when he came back, Andrew
- 20:28Speaker 4: and I, three of us, me, you, and Andrew were texting.
- 20:32Speaker 4: And I go, there he goes, hopping. And he goes, yep,
- 20:35Speaker 4: here comes Keyshawn James Newby. who's looks about 220 pounds.
- 20:39Speaker 3: He's listed as 240, but he he's like, he's a,
- 20:43Speaker 3: he's a guy who's got some speed, but he's too
- 20:45Speaker 3: small to play in the NFL right now.
- 20:46Speaker 4: So they've got problems. They really have some problems on defense,
- 20:50Speaker 4: but like you said, they kept in it. Coker got
- 20:53Speaker 4: them a little bit, but I think what we're seeing
- 20:56Speaker 4: now in the last three games, the defense plays really
- 20:59Speaker 4: well for two, two and a half quarters, but at
- 21:01Speaker 4: some point the dam breaks, you can't keep asking that.
- 21:04Speaker 3: That's, that's what you're saying. And I agree. is you
- 21:06Speaker 3: can't keep asking a defense to do this. It's not
- 21:08Speaker 3: humanly possible.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Correct.
- 21:10Speaker 3: This is not, I mean, it's just, you can't keep
- 21:12Speaker 3: asking them to hold up.
- 21:13Speaker 4: And then, then the question is defensively, who are they
- 21:17Speaker 4: going to have as edge rusher group? Because so Nolan
- 21:20Speaker 4: Smith concussion, Grenard will get some time off, but he's
- 21:23Speaker 4: got this ankle.
- 21:24Speaker 3: He re-injured it clearly. He was hobbled. And who, it's like,
- 21:29Speaker 3: who are they going to have? Who are they going
- 21:30Speaker 3: to have?
- 21:31Speaker 1: It's a great, it's a great question.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I'm really, I don't understand the Grenard situation, Adam, because,
- 21:36Speaker 2: like you said, he did not carry a game designation.
- 21:40Speaker 1: He was full practice, right?
- 21:42Speaker 2: So the only thing that I thought that would limit
- 21:44Speaker 2: him would be conditioning, but clearly that's not, I mean,
- 21:49Speaker 2: he played so few snaps.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That it couldn't just have been a conditioning issue.
- 21:52Speaker 2: And like you said, he even seemed, I guess the bias,
- 21:56Speaker 2: his own words, like, you know, I'll give it the
- 21:58Speaker 2: best I can, but if you're full practicing a full,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and you're you're not on the injury report with a
- 22:04Speaker 2: game designation i'm of the assumption that you're feeling great
- 22:08Speaker 2: and fine and conditioning would only be the obstacle but
- 22:10Speaker 2: that doesn't seem to be the case.
- 22:11Speaker 4: And it's funny because vic did say when he was
- 22:14Speaker 4: asked about granard coming off of uh of the reserve
- 22:18Speaker 4: list that or excuse me he wasn't they they didn't
- 22:21Speaker 4: put it was about how much he could play once
- 22:23Speaker 4: he's clear to play and he said oh he's not
- 22:26Speaker 4: gonna he he he's going to be restriction. You know,
- 22:29Speaker 4: he doesn't like the ramp up here at Vic, but
- 22:30Speaker 4: he knew because Grenard hadn't practiced since last season. He's
- 22:33Speaker 4: going to need time, but they're, they're in a, they're
- 22:36Speaker 4: in a, almost a crisis right now with their edge
- 22:38Speaker 4: group because they just don't have enough players.
- 22:41Speaker 3: What I like, I mentioned Campbell. I mean, cause I
- 22:44Speaker 3: know they play Carter on the edge. I'm wondering if
- 22:46Speaker 3: a Jomo did it.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I'd like to ask Greg that. And I know you'll
- 22:50Speaker 4: be able to see the tape tomorrow. I'm wondering about that,
- 22:52Speaker 4: but it's like at this point, you're looking for guys
- 22:54Speaker 4: who are healthy and, But, you know, Bond could do it.
- 22:57Speaker 3: He's done some of it. Obviously did it in college.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Hunt's out.
- 23:00Speaker 4: We know Hunt's out. Smith's out with a concussion. Their
- 23:04Speaker 4: practice squad. Oh, Mason Riger. He had a big injury
- 23:08Speaker 4: history in college. I don't even know if he can
- 23:09Speaker 4: play in the NFL. Dolphins cut him. He's out of Wisconsin.
- 23:12Speaker 4: He's got great size. Dolphins cut him injured with an
- 23:17Speaker 4: injury settlement. He had pretty significant injury concerns coming out
- 23:19Speaker 4: of Wisconsin.
- 23:20Speaker 3: So, I mean, who knows? They're so desperate at this point.
- 23:24Speaker 3: You take anybody. Yeah, you just.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Hit it on the head. You might say Mason Rieger,
- 23:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But if you're on the 53 of the practice squad
- 23:32Speaker 2: at this point and you play edge, you have to
- 23:35Speaker 2: be under consideration to get on the field.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no doubt about it. It's crazy.
- 23:39Speaker 3: This dude's big, by the way. Real quick, Rieger's got
- 23:42Speaker 3: really good size. 6'4, 250 plus, but he wasn't drafted
- 23:47Speaker 3: for a reason because it's injury concerns. So they're in
- 23:49Speaker 3: a crisis with the edge group. We'll see about Davis.

- 26:22Speaker 4: You know, Coop's not having the injury, the season, Cooper
- 26:26Speaker 4: Jean's not having the great season that we were expecting.
- 26:27Speaker 4: He had a terrible penalty. See, that one we could not,
- 26:32Speaker 4: through video, I could not tell if the guy made
- 26:35Speaker 4: contact with him. He's just trying to get the guy
- 26:36Speaker 4: off of him or did he just flip? They called
- 26:38Speaker 4: a personal foul, but.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he talked about it in the locker room. You
- 26:44Speaker 2: can tell he was not in agreement with the referee.
- 26:48Speaker 2: He basically said the guy was on his back as
- 26:50Speaker 2: he was trying to get up. He's like, how can
- 26:52Speaker 2: I body slam a guy? He said he was told
- 26:54Speaker 2: he body slammed the guy. And his response was, how
- 26:57Speaker 2: can I body slam someone who's on my back with
- 26:59Speaker 2: my fit hand? But to your point, to the overall point,
- 27:04Speaker 2: and I asked a couple of guys this in the
- 27:06Speaker 2: locker room, it's really important.
- 27:09Speaker 1: It's very imperative.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Moving forward, the guys started, Maialata, Cooper, Dajin, everybody, Jalen Carter.
- 27:18Speaker 2: They've got to set a bet. They've have to, like
- 27:20Speaker 2: practice has to be spirited. They have to act like
- 27:22Speaker 2: Andy Reid used to after the worst of the worst loss,
- 27:24Speaker 2: which is bounce back the next day and act like
- 27:26Speaker 2: it never happened because there's too many young players. There's
- 27:29Speaker 2: too many inexperienced players. And unfortunately, those are the kind
- 27:32Speaker 2: of players, it's just human nature, something I've observed 20
- 27:36Speaker 2: years of doing this.
- 27:37Speaker 1: They get sucked into the malaise quicker. It's easier to
- 27:40Speaker 1: just think like, Woe is us. We've got the injury.
- 27:43Speaker 2: The veterans and the starters absolutely need to set a
- 27:46Speaker 2: great tone. They can't let their emotions get the best
- 27:48Speaker 2: of them. Even Coop said that. Jordan Maialata talked about
- 27:52Speaker 2: how important that was going to be in the week
- 27:53Speaker 2: leading up. That can only get you so far. But
- 27:56Speaker 2: the point is the Eagles are at least competing. I mean,
- 27:58Speaker 2: they had a chance there in the third quarter. Honestly,
- 28:01Speaker 2: they got the ball back, right? And first play. What
- 28:04Speaker 2: was the first play? A bad snap. And that just
- 28:08Speaker 2: killed it. That, to me, is the turning point of
- 28:10Speaker 2: the game. Because they had a shot.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It was slim. They had a shot. And then that
- 28:15Speaker 1: just totally, you knew they were behind the sticks and
- 28:16Speaker 1: they were going to have to punch.
- 28:17Speaker 3: It's a funny story.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Before that series, I texted Andrew and you.
- 28:22Speaker 3: That's all, folks. That's it. They're done. Down two scores.
- 28:24Speaker 3: It's over. There's no way they're coming back, whether they
- 28:26Speaker 3: play offense.
- 28:27Speaker 4: And all of a sudden. They get the ball back
- 28:29Speaker 4: down less than seven. I'm like, okay, what do they
- 28:31Speaker 4: actually have a chance?
- 28:32Speaker 3: This is insane. Like they shouldn't, but the defense hung
- 28:35Speaker 3: in there. And then the bad snap by Jake majors.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Oh boy.
- 28:39Speaker 4: It's they, they just can't get out of their own
- 28:41Speaker 4: way with this injury thing. I know people want the
- 28:43Speaker 4: smoke and gun with injuries. Oh, what's the problem? I
- 28:47Speaker 4: can't think of these guys healthy. It's just, it's just
- 28:49Speaker 4: the law of averages. If it's so healthy under this regime,
- 28:53Speaker 4: since Sirianni got here, they're just both. It's not one
- 28:55Speaker 4: side of football either. It's like every, It's almost every
- 28:58Speaker 4: position in their offensive line. D-line, linebacker to a Campbell's
- 29:03Speaker 4: been hurt.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yep.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Edge group, yes. Yep. Cornerback group.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Not as much. More safety.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Safety, yes. Kenny Moore technically didn't start.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Technically, he didn't start because of the formation that came in,
- 29:16Speaker 4: but he seemed to play a lot, and he was
- 29:17Speaker 4: in early.
- 29:19Speaker 3: It's so funny. Vic had no plans to play more
- 29:21Speaker 3: in safety this season. Right. What did that all change?
- 29:24Speaker 1: You ran out of play.
- 29:25Speaker 3: You have to do something.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 3: By the way, I know he played, but did you
- 29:29Speaker 3: see Marcus Epps?
- 29:31Speaker 1: I did not.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I think he might have played special teams. I don't
- 29:34Speaker 2: remember seeing him much on defense. And I don't think
- 29:37Speaker 2: Vic started rotating Trotter in until later in the game.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Is that correct? Like it wasn't a rotation at the start,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I saw Trotter.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Maybe it was.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Second quarter, but.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Second quarter, okay. Yeah.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I'm still very curious what the tape shows on Campbell
- 29:52Speaker 3: and whether he lined up at edge. He has to
- 29:54Speaker 3: line up as a true edge rusher, not just a
- 29:56Speaker 3: run defender. They need somebody, anybody. it's to this point
- 30:00Speaker 3: where you're not going to ask BG to come out
- 30:03Speaker 3: of retirement. It's ridiculous. They need someone who's a little
- 30:07Speaker 3: bit younger. Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 2: You ask that when you're like one player away from
- 30:11Speaker 2: winning at all, not when you're in total collapse mode.
- 30:14Speaker 1: He's going to be like, wait, I'm coming back for that.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. No, you beg them if it's late in
- 30:20Speaker 3: the season, you're trying to get the playoffs. Right. Which
- 30:22Speaker 3: at this point is the best you can hope for
- 30:23Speaker 3: is to somehow hang in there for the division. Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Giants were horrendous today. So it's this division. I don't
- 30:30Speaker 4: know what the hell to make of it. Look at
- 30:33Speaker 4: it this way. Could a team with nine wins win it?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Eight.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I was going to say, could a losing team win
- 30:39Speaker 2: it like the Panthers did last year?
- 30:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And then this is for down the road, but it's
- 30:45Speaker 1: a good way to end the show.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I guess if that's the case, you root for it because, guys,
- 30:52Speaker 2: it shows that you persevered a little bit.
- 30:54Speaker 1: You won some games down the stretch. You won your division.
- 30:57Speaker 2: You get a chance to play in the playoffs, but
- 30:59Speaker 2: this was a Super Bowl year. You have guys making
- 31:02Speaker 2: a lot of money who might be on their last year,
- 31:04Speaker 2: like Saquon Barkley, or you have Jalen at the end
- 31:07Speaker 2: of his contract with the guaranteed money. You have Dallas
- 31:10Speaker 2: Goddard back. That was not the expectation. I don't know
- 31:15Speaker 2: how fans work. Do they just adjust it in the
- 31:17Speaker 2: middle of the season and say, screw it? I just
- 31:20Speaker 2: want to see development, or does it just become a
- 31:21Speaker 2: disappointing year?
- 31:22Speaker 4: The one thing I would say with the trade deadline
- 31:24Speaker 4: being November 10th, obviously there's a lot of time here.
- 31:26Speaker 4: You've got a little bit less than four weeks, but
- 31:30Speaker 4: And Howie does not like being a seller. That's not
- 31:32Speaker 4: the way he works. But we'll see what their record
- 31:37Speaker 4: is as they get closer. I wouldn't rule anything out
- 31:41Speaker 4: at this point. You've got to see how it looks.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Because if they're like whatever how many games they've played,
- 31:46Speaker 4: if they're like 3-8, you're playing.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Towards next year, you might as well start to write players.
- 31:50Speaker 3: That's just the way it is. Being a 7- or
- 31:56Speaker 3: 8-win team, that does not help you. Who cares?
- 32:00Speaker 4: But I'm going to be interested to see what happens
- 32:02Speaker 4: if they're a bad team. Like, okay, they've lost four
- 32:04Speaker 4: in a row, but if it damn really breaks and
- 32:08Speaker 4: it's obvious they're not going anywhere, it's not the way
- 32:10Speaker 4: they work. You set it up fairly well here in
- 32:12Speaker 4: terms of what this thing looked like before the season.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I mean, no one could have known that Lane Johnson
- 32:16Speaker 3: was still on the roster for cap reasons.
- 32:17Speaker 1: It's comical.
- 32:18Speaker 3: It is what it is. And, you know, who knew
- 32:20Speaker 3: they were going to trade Juergens?
- 32:22Speaker 4: But, man, this season has not gone like we thought.
- 32:25Speaker 4: I mean, anyone thought that they were going to be
- 32:27Speaker 4: this bad.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Come on, please. Nope.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Was not on my bingo card in 2026, a four
- 32:32Speaker 2: game losing streak. And with Dallas on Monday night, the
- 32:35Speaker 2: one thing about Dallas is they can score a lot
- 32:37Speaker 2: of points.
- 32:37Speaker 1: And right now the Eagles cannot. So that will be a.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Big topic of conversation this week, leading up with all
- 32:44Speaker 2: of our great shows that we will have on the inside,
- 32:46Speaker 2: the birds platform. That's going to do it for the inside,
- 32:49Speaker 2: the birds post game show. That's Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Of course, we thank you for flying with us inside
- 32:57Speaker 2: the birds.
