Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: First comes love.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Friend said she fell head over heels in love with them.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Then comes marriage.
- 0:11Speaker 3: They weren't the superstar couple.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Then comes cheating.
- 0:16Speaker 4: I may do it there.
- 0:18Speaker 5: I think sex was at the center of a lot
- 0:20Speaker 5: of this.
- 0:22Speaker 6: There had been a drug issue with Donna.
- 0:25Speaker 7: Donna Munda was looking for someone to kill her husband.
- 0:29Speaker 1: He's a good man. He was about to meet a
- 0:33Speaker 1: bad end. My name is Steve Sharrippa. I grew up
- 0:39Speaker 1: in a pretty rough neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. I've
- 0:42Speaker 1: seen good people turn bad and bad people turn worse.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Some took contracts to carry out a hit. Some were
- 0:51Speaker 1: victims of a hit. It's a hit man. Life and death.
- 0:55Speaker 1: That just part of the business. It's nothing personal. May
- 1:09Speaker 1: two thousand and five. It's Friday the thirteenth. But if
- 1:14Speaker 1: everything goes according to plan, Donald Munda thinks it's going
- 1:19Speaker 1: to be the luckiest day of her life.
- 1:24Speaker 6: She was always positive, upbeat, bubbly and bouncy no matter what.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But not right now. Dona's marriage is on the rocks today.
- 1:37Speaker 1: With the help of her young lover, She's gonna end
- 1:40Speaker 1: it with a bang. Hulam Munda is Dona's older much
- 1:47Speaker 1: older husband, A great guy.
- 1:54Speaker 3: People admired him very much for his generosity, for his friendliness,
- 1:58Speaker 3: for his openness.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Friday thirteenth will be Ghulam Munder's worst day on earth.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He'll be dead before sunset. He was kind of generous.
- 2:12Speaker 1: He loved and supported his wife. I mean he stood
- 2:14Speaker 1: by it through some real hard times. A perfect husband,
- 2:18Speaker 1: the perfect couple. So what happened? How does a loving
- 2:22Speaker 1: wife become the monster who has her husband murdered right
- 2:25Speaker 1: before horizon? Ghulam Munda, a brilliant doctor, is an immigrant
- 2:37Speaker 1: success story. Gulam loves America and it's riches.
- 2:48Speaker 4: He liked expensive cards and the expensive Juelry watches cut
- 2:54Speaker 4: the midsoit he thought, you make enough money, you should
- 2:58Speaker 4: expend it to and enjoy it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And the good doctor has an eye for pretty women.
- 3:14Speaker 4: If he liked somebody, he was flooded for them and
- 3:19Speaker 4: you know, tried to get them out on the dead
- 3:21Speaker 4: like normally people do.
- 3:25Speaker 1: At forty three, Gulamunda meets the woman. Donald Smiles is
- 3:33Speaker 1: straight laced and young, just three years out of high school.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Kim Joining and Debbie Engelbau are best friends.
- 3:47Speaker 6: We all basically came from middle class families, Christian families
- 3:51Speaker 6: went to church on Sunday obeyed. Our parents never really
- 3:55Speaker 6: got in any trouble in school Thoughta comes from a.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Very close knit family. Many people around here. You go
- 4:03Speaker 3: to college, you go somewhere else in work. She came
- 4:06Speaker 3: back here wanted to be in this community.
- 4:10Speaker 1: The older doctor ended a pretty young extreele to hit
- 4:13Speaker 1: it off, but he is twice her age.
- 4:18Speaker 2: When she first started dating Gulam, I remember conversations with
- 4:22Speaker 2: her on the phone, and she was very hesitant because
- 4:25Speaker 2: she was concerned about the age difference.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But doctor Munda knew how to take care of people.
- 4:32Speaker 1: For the next twelve years, he put his young Innamorada
- 4:36Speaker 1: to a nursing school and then he funded a master's degree.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Donna became a nurse synesteicist top of the line. All
- 4:42Speaker 1: the while, Gulam and Donna got closer and closer.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I know she fell head over heels in love with him,
- 5:00Speaker 2: even though she was reluctant initially to get together with him.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Gulab's friends think Donna is great. How beauty show us
- 5:09Speaker 1: sparkle up the dinners with his Indian doctor pals sach
- 5:13Speaker 1: Tava and Chatta.
- 5:15Speaker 4: They did seem to fit well together as a couple
- 5:18Speaker 4: and meeting or parties, you know, make sure they say
- 5:23Speaker 4: hello to everybody and comment on people's outfits and how
- 5:27Speaker 4: nice they are, and how people used to like that.
- 5:32Speaker 4: She was fairly outgoing. She was a very likable woman.
- 5:39Speaker 8: I kept telling him, why don't you get married? You
- 5:42Speaker 8: should get married. It is time you're getting old and
- 5:44Speaker 8: should settle down. Then finally agreed. By that time they
- 5:49Speaker 8: knew each other for a long time and his wedding
- 5:54Speaker 8: was held in White House.
- 5:56Speaker 1: When they married, Donna is thirty Gulam, she moves into
- 6:04Speaker 1: his dream house. Life is good, everyone cheers.
- 6:10Speaker 3: We're a small community, so say anybody as a superstar couple.
- 6:13Speaker 3: But they were as close as you would get.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Like a lot of people who make it to the top.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Gula Moundas started at the bottom. He was born poor
- 6:29Speaker 1: in India.
- 6:32Speaker 4: He used to say that there were times and there
- 6:35Speaker 4: was not even enough food, you know, in the house,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and he used to like get by with one meal
- 6:41Speaker 4: a day so that his sister could eat.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But Gula managed to become a doctor and when he
- 6:48Speaker 1: was thirty four, he came to America for advanced training
- 6:51Speaker 1: in urology, a very demanding medical discipline. He settles in Hermitage, Pennsylvania,
- 6:58Speaker 1: a peaceful, family oriented small town. Years ago, immigrants flooded
- 7:06Speaker 1: into this area get to work to steel mills. Today
- 7:09Speaker 1: the mills are gone. The growth industry now is medicine
- 7:15Speaker 1: perfect for a new kind of immigrant.
- 7:19Speaker 3: When he moved in here, you know, I don't believe
- 7:21Speaker 3: there are any other urologists in town, which is maybe
- 7:24Speaker 3: the reason that he came. So he've worked up very
- 7:27Speaker 3: quickly a very large patient base, so he knew lots
- 7:31Speaker 3: and lots of people.
- 7:32Speaker 1: In this community. As a doctor, Gulam is a true humanitarian.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Thank you very much, thanks for going good so far.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 7:43Speaker 8: Honestly, you cannot describe the way he was to his patients.
- 7:48Speaker 8: I think he always needed them like his own family.
- 7:51Speaker 8: Kind hearted, in a simple, very etoncere.
- 7:55Speaker 5: That's your urinal track, right, Sometimes you get some little pollup.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Knows his patient's lives, even in a rich country, can
- 8:03Speaker 1: be hard. In Hermitage, Gula Munda is welcomed, honored and loved.
- 8:14Speaker 3: He supported his patients. You know, he wanted them to
- 8:18Speaker 3: take a certain medication and they just decided they couldn't
- 8:21Speaker 3: afford it.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It was common that he would.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Order it and he would pay for it himself, to
- 8:26Speaker 3: make sure everybody was taken care of.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And toil. The last chapter Gula Munda's life story would
- 8:32Speaker 1: have made a wonderful lesson about hard work and sacrifice.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Paying off life and hermitage was a dream come true.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Donovan and Gula Munda are pillars of the community. Beautiful
- 8:49Speaker 1: as she is, Dona is no Pampa trophy. She has
- 8:53Speaker 1: a full time medical career of her own as a
- 8:56Speaker 1: nurse an eistetist. Donald works hard, but it is a
- 9:00Speaker 1: tough training, stressful life for the pain. Then, tragically, she
- 9:07Speaker 1: loses her dad, her main emotional support. It's a shattering blow.
- 9:12Speaker 6: When he died, she was inconsolable. It still makes me
- 9:19Speaker 6: emotional because I know that her entire life changed from
- 9:23Speaker 6: that point on. She went into such a severe depression
- 9:28Speaker 6: that she pulled back from all of us.
- 9:34Speaker 1: The person Donna's friends know so well is about to
- 9:37Speaker 1: become a stranger, almost like her Spark died when her
- 9:43Speaker 1: dad did. It seems the death of Donna's dad was
- 9:47Speaker 1: what triggered her down With Spiral. It would take Donna
- 9:50Speaker 1: into a world of addiction and send her husband to
- 9:53Speaker 1: his untimely death.
- 9:56Speaker 3: What was it that turned her from a woman who
- 10:00Speaker 3: was a hard working local girl. How did she make
- 10:03Speaker 3: that leap to actually want to kill him?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Gula Munda thinks he's off on a wonderful family adventure.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He isn't. His wife, Donna has a terrible surprise waiting
- 10:19Speaker 1: for him. She's taking her unwitting husband to his death
- 10:24Speaker 1: at the hands of her hip man lover. Very strange
- 10:29Speaker 1: behavior for someone who has made a career of saving lives.
- 10:35Speaker 1: With a stressful job and the father she was so
- 10:37Speaker 1: close to no longer there, Donna is emotionally adrift. She's
- 10:42Speaker 1: in a sea of pain and she's sinking fast. She
- 10:44Speaker 1: needs somebody to rescue her, but the man who had
- 10:47Speaker 1: nurtured her for all these years seems remote, oblivious, absent.
- 11:02Speaker 6: She was in a severe state of depression and she
- 11:05Speaker 6: started to fall into needing to hear the positive things,
- 11:09Speaker 6: needing herself to be built up again.
- 11:13Speaker 1: In the household of Hermitage, Pennsylvania star couple, the bloom
- 11:17Speaker 1: is off the roads. Donna has hit forty. Gulam's in
- 11:21Speaker 1: his sixties. She needs energy and excitement to get her
- 11:24Speaker 1: out of her rut, but he just doesn't seem up for.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Her. Relationship with Gulam had turned a little bit cold.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Their intimate life was not what it had been because
- 11:40Speaker 5: of some physical problems Gulam had.
- 11:51Speaker 1: For a time. Donna's work is all consuming. She can
- 11:58Speaker 1: forget her emotional problems, least for a while, Claire. Then
- 12:05Speaker 1: everything going on in a life overwhelms it. Claire, that's funny.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You can do it, Clare. Donna's job is to ease
- 12:16Speaker 1: her patient's physical pain, but Donna's hurting too. In her case,
- 12:21Speaker 1: it's mostly heartache. The drugs that ease physical pain can
- 12:26Speaker 1: treat that too. On top of all the obvious hazards
- 12:29Speaker 1: nurses face, there's one that's kind of a secret. It's uh,
- 12:36Speaker 1: how do I put this. You're working with a lot
- 12:39Speaker 1: of people who are suffering. They lean on you. It
- 12:41Speaker 1: doesn't matter what's going on in your life. They need
- 12:44Speaker 1: you to forget yourself and focus on their pain because
- 12:48Speaker 1: a few drops of what you got in your pocket
- 12:51Speaker 1: will make the pain go away. And when you're in
- 12:53Speaker 1: the middle of it, tired, your back and you're heart hurting,
- 12:57Speaker 1: these little viiles tempt you. You say, okay, fast fair.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'll share your pain if you share your pain killer
- 13:05Speaker 1: fast fair. Nobody knows how many doctors and nurses use
- 13:21Speaker 1: drugs meant for patients, but there are many, and Donna
- 13:27Speaker 1: Munda was one of them. Donad was into fentanyl. It's
- 13:35Speaker 1: a favorite amongst professionals, wickedly powerful, but it doesn't show
- 13:39Speaker 1: up on a drug test. Fentandel's more addictive than morphine
- 13:48Speaker 1: and a hundred times more potent. A few drops are
- 13:52Speaker 1: all your need. You for the pain, A little misdirection
- 13:57Speaker 1: and you're good to go. Nobody can tell if the
- 14:02Speaker 1: patient gets every trap.
- 14:04Speaker 5: It'll all be better soon, dear, or if.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You save a few for a rainy day. And Donna's
- 14:15Speaker 1: been facing stormy weather for a while now.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I think things just spiraled out of control for her.
- 14:27Speaker 2: She did make some bad choices when it came to
- 14:30Speaker 2: the pain medication.
- 14:36Speaker 1: At home, Goulaim is the eternal optimist. The marriage is
- 14:40Speaker 1: not going well, but he tries to keep it on track.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Welcome home, darling, How you doing, How was your day
- 14:48Speaker 5: at work?
- 14:50Speaker 1: Trouble is he and Donna aren't on the same page anymore.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I think there's still this tendency to look at Donna
- 14:57Speaker 5: as the young girl. Even though they've been married for
- 15:00Speaker 5: twenty years, you know, you still have that age difference,
- 15:06Speaker 5: the older man being somewhat paternalistic in a way.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Not even her best friends know what's really going on.
- 15:16Speaker 6: She kind of went into isolation. She pulled back, She
- 15:20Speaker 6: didn't answer phones, and I think one thing led into
- 15:24Speaker 6: another at a very low point in her life. I
- 15:32Speaker 6: guess partly too, I'm emotional because I wish I had
- 15:35Speaker 6: known more of what was going on, so I could
- 15:39Speaker 6: have been more of a support to her.
- 15:43Speaker 3: She essentially lived a double life. Her family members knew
- 15:46Speaker 3: of her as a loving sister and daughter, but she
- 15:49Speaker 3: had this other side. She had this drug problem.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Now that's why I heard, Well, Donna has pulled back
- 15:58Speaker 1: from her ow pals. She and Gulam keep seeing his
- 16:02Speaker 1: with them. She plays the perfect wife perfectly.
- 16:08Speaker 4: She ben't very happy and used to have a good,
- 16:12Speaker 4: uh you know, good time, and they didn't have any
- 16:15Speaker 4: specific problem that she had uncomfortable with her high Wave
- 16:19Speaker 4: had uncomfortable.
- 16:22Speaker 8: He never has said anything bad, which could uh make
- 16:27Speaker 8: me think that there is a problem.
- 16:34Speaker 1: But of course there's a huge problem, and it's about
- 16:37Speaker 1: to get a whole lot worse. Just because fentonel is
- 16:41Speaker 1: easy to steal doesn't mean nobody's keeping trap. Donad gets caught.
- 16:56Speaker 1: It's a first offense, So Donad just gets probade we
- 17:00Speaker 1: had and she gets fired. But that's on the QT.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Her drug charts weren't really well publicized because she never
- 17:11Speaker 3: pleaded or guilty or want to try or anything like that.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Koula Mandanna do an amazing job of keeping her trouble secret.
- 17:23Speaker 3: She kept things very much to herself. Her husband kept
- 17:27Speaker 3: things very much to himself.
- 17:31Speaker 4: I mean he was a private person. I guess that's
- 17:34Speaker 4: what he figured out, that it's a private medal between
- 17:39Speaker 4: me and my wife.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Always being a very private person. I think, on one hand,
- 17:43Speaker 6: she would not be comfortable with calling us and saying, hey,
- 17:47Speaker 6: I have this problem. You know I need help or
- 17:49Speaker 6: I'm seeking help.
- 18:03Speaker 1: At forty two, after studying and working her whole adult life,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Downer is an unemployed drug addict with no access to
- 18:11Speaker 1: the narcotic her body is screaming for.
- 18:15Speaker 6: She was just emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually crushed, and I
- 18:20Speaker 6: don't think she knew quite what to do or where
- 18:23Speaker 6: to turn.
- 18:25Speaker 1: She can't turn to Gula he's angry and doesn't understand
- 18:33Speaker 1: found is now being forced to take a different path.
- 18:37Speaker 1: It's rehab or back to court. If you have to
- 18:40Speaker 1: go into rehab, you've probably screwed up your life. That's
- 18:44Speaker 1: what they call a given. You've messed up at work,
- 18:47Speaker 1: Your family and friends are fed up. Part of a
- 18:50Speaker 1: recovery deal is taking responsibility. Detoxing is hell, but it's
- 18:55Speaker 1: nothing compared to the emotional stuff. So instead of changing themselves,
- 19:00Speaker 1: lo people just look for a new escape. Donah finds
- 19:04Speaker 1: one a new friend. His name is Damian Bradford. Together
- 19:10Speaker 1: they'll be extremely bad news for doctor Goula Munda. Dona
- 19:18Speaker 1: Munda has been through the worst her world can dish out,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and she's come out smiling. She feels like she's got
- 19:24Speaker 1: a new reason to live. But that reason is the
- 19:27Speaker 1: joy she feels in the arms of a young drug dealer,
- 19:32Speaker 1: Damian Bradford, Donna's new boy toy. It's in Damien's bed
- 19:36Speaker 1: that Donna hatches apply to rid her life of the
- 19:39Speaker 1: one thing keeping her from total happiness, her husband. She's
- 19:44Speaker 1: figured the best way to move on with her life
- 19:47Speaker 1: is to end his and to think it all began
- 19:52Speaker 1: and rehabit.
- 19:53Speaker 7: When she went to rehab, she was done up to
- 19:56Speaker 7: the help. I mean, make up, jewelry, clothes, the whole
- 19:58Speaker 7: nine yards. She wasn't dressed like your stereotypical and I'm
- 20:07Speaker 7: not saying anything derogative about rehabit. People have a stereotype.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Downad draws the attention of a fellow rehaber. What's up, everyone.
- 20:19Speaker 8: My name is Damian Bradford, and I've been a bad boy.
- 20:24Speaker 6: You know.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Hopefully I can now take something away.
- 20:27Speaker 1: From here when I leave. Damian Bradford is twenty three
- 20:34Speaker 1: cocaine dealer, cocaine user, a bad boy with a gun.
- 20:39Speaker 1: He liked steroids and had a good way with the ladies.
- 20:43Speaker 1: He had some brushes with the law drugs, of course,
- 20:46Speaker 1: assault weapons, and he was on parole. Damien was hardcore
- 20:51Speaker 1: for small town Pennsylvania, which meant he could still be
- 20:55Speaker 1: fairly pleasant.
- 21:02Speaker 7: He was very well groomed, muscular, very polite, very respectful.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He was a smooth talker. He was a very nice guy.
- 21:16Speaker 1: He sure looks fight to Donna, she hasn't had this
- 21:19Speaker 1: kind of male attention in a while.
- 21:24Speaker 7: Damian, being an attractive, muscular male, caught her attention and
- 21:30Speaker 7: I think her appearance caught his attention. I'm sure Danmi
- 21:36Speaker 7: wasn't thinking, hey, this could be some type of long
- 21:39Speaker 7: term thing. I'm sure Damian was thinking, hey, she's attractive,
- 21:42Speaker 7: she dresses well, maybe something could happen short term here.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Okay, Exchanging glances is one thing, but acting on them
- 21:52Speaker 1: is another.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Anybody who knows anybody who's been in rehab though that
- 21:57Speaker 5: rehab romance as well, frowned pond, they flourish.
- 22:04Speaker 1: If you're a recovering addict, you're vulnerable. Being off drugs
- 22:07Speaker 1: leaves a big empty hole. You gotta fill it with something.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Your addiction says, all right, I can't have drugs. Give
- 22:15Speaker 1: me something I could work with, something pleasurable.
- 22:29Speaker 7: When they got physically involved, it was secret and you
- 22:34Speaker 7: had that type of chemistry, that type of excitement. I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 7: it was a cheating relationship with all the excitement and
- 22:47Speaker 7: everything to go with it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Donna tells Gulam reheab is really working for She feels
- 22:56Speaker 1: like a new woman. Maybe the sense of danger edge
- 23:01Speaker 1: to the thrill. When Donna and Damien hooked up, he
- 23:08Speaker 1: was sharing an apartment with a roommate, so to make
- 23:10Speaker 1: sure she could see or whenever she needed a Damien
- 23:13Speaker 1: fixed Donna found them his own place, and she paid
- 23:17Speaker 1: the rent. He's part of the bargain. I think you
- 23:20Speaker 1: got the picture by now.
- 23:27Speaker 7: She took care of himium She would give him clothes, money.
- 23:36Speaker 7: He was, for all intents and purposes, what they call
- 23:39Speaker 7: cat man.
- 23:41Speaker 5: They have a woman that's paying all the bills, a
- 23:45Speaker 5: woman that seems to have a healthy appetite, who in
- 23:48Speaker 5: your right mind would walk away from that? I mean, really,
- 23:53Speaker 5: it sounds to me like a middle aged person who
- 23:56Speaker 5: meets a young person in a new beginning.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Donna was hooked again, another full blown, all consuming addiction.
- 24:11Speaker 1: If she wasn't with Damien, she was on the phone
- 24:14Speaker 1: or texting him. A woman obsessed.
- 24:20Speaker 5: They talked to each other at least forty times a day,
- 24:25Speaker 5: either by phone or text messaging.
- 24:30Speaker 3: You called her baby girl, and she called him daddy.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Seems kind of far fetched for a middle aged woman
- 24:37Speaker 3: to be speaking like that, but that's what happened.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Together. Donna and Damien called themselves the Double D's.
- 24:48Speaker 2: She was at a very low point in her life
- 24:50Speaker 2: and this person probably gave her attention to make her
- 24:53Speaker 2: feel that she was important, And I think she kind
- 24:57Speaker 2: of just slid right into that because I'm sure he
- 25:01Speaker 2: made her feel special.
- 25:04Speaker 5: Her and Damien seemed totally obsessed with each other.
- 25:12Speaker 1: As she falls hard for Damien, living with Gulam becomes impossible.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Their relationship was starting to crack.
- 25:26Speaker 5: She's starting to call her relationship with Gulam an intolerable situation.
- 25:32Speaker 5: She refers to Gulam as the prison guard watching her.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Gulam has all the money, Gulam has the power.
- 25:42Speaker 4: I may do a nerve.
- 25:44Speaker 1: She tells Damien that Gulam is cruel.
- 25:48Speaker 7: She indicated that he was abusive to Donamuanda.
- 25:55Speaker 1: He was controlling that both physically mentally abusive.
- 26:01Speaker 7: Basically a portrait you would paint to someone for the
- 26:05Speaker 7: purpose of making that someone.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Dislike your spouse.
- 26:11Speaker 7: Damien started getting feelings for her, real genuine feelings for her.
- 26:18Speaker 1: But Damien's having relationship issues of his own. Remember how
- 26:22Speaker 1: pre Donna Damien was sharing an apartment. Her name is Charlie.
- 26:27Speaker 1: She isn't happy about the double DS, so she drops
- 26:31Speaker 1: a bomb him. I speak with doctor Munda please. Turns
- 26:36Speaker 1: out Damien's ex roommate considers herself his fiancee.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Charlene mcfrasier, who was Damien's girlfriend, called doctor Munda and
- 26:50Speaker 5: told him about the affair.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But I have some very interesting information about your wife.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Because she doesn't want to lose Damien to this wealthy
- 26:59Speaker 5: older woman.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been happening for months now. The cat was
- 27:04Speaker 1: out of the bag and it came out scratching. Donna's
- 27:08Speaker 1: marriage hit the rocks hard, and it turned out that
- 27:11Speaker 1: Oh Gulam, generous as he was, was also prudent. He
- 27:14Speaker 1: took some precautions against a change in the marriage to
- 27:17Speaker 1: a weather way back when he got down to sign
- 27:20Speaker 1: a prenup. If they split, she get a quarter million,
- 27:24Speaker 1: no more. But now Gulam was worth about twenty five
- 27:27Speaker 1: times that much, six million in change to be exacted.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Gulam's hurt, but he's not vengeful. If Dona wants out,
- 27:42Speaker 1: he'll let her go. He even offers her way more
- 27:45Speaker 1: than the prenup, just to make it quick and easy.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I'm great.
- 27:52Speaker 5: Doctor Munda apparently offered Donna a million dollars to walk
- 27:57Speaker 5: out of the marriage.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Refuses. She wants out, all right, but she wants a
- 28:06Speaker 1: golden parachute too. Doctor Munder's medical practice had made him
- 28:15Speaker 1: one of the richest guys in Hermitan's PA, but Donna
- 28:18Speaker 1: had discovered the money was nearly all his. That prenup
- 28:21Speaker 1: was the problem, but only kicked in if the mound
- 28:24Speaker 1: is divorced. There was a way. Donna figured to get
- 28:27Speaker 1: her fair share, to get out of her marriage, to
- 28:29Speaker 1: make her lover happy and totally attached. And Gulam was old,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I mean nearly seventy. Donna figured he didn't have long
- 28:36Speaker 1: to live anyway, why not just speed things up a bit.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Damian thinks of himself as a bad boy, but what's
- 28:46Speaker 1: going down now is way worse than bed.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Donna told Damien that she wanted him to kill doctor
- 28:58Speaker 5: Munda almost him half of what she would get out
- 29:03Speaker 5: of the doctor's multimillion dollar estate.
- 29:07Speaker 7: Damian Bradford had a female throwing money at him, giving
- 29:12Speaker 7: Damien a lifestyle he had never experienced before, and she
- 29:18Speaker 7: convinced him that she would be receiving millions after the
- 29:24Speaker 7: inheritance came in. He's in that lovey I want to
- 29:30Speaker 7: please you stage. It's a bad combination, Damien agrees.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Gulam's got to go. Donna's plan sounds simple. The idea
- 29:48Speaker 1: is to make killing him look like a random drive by.
- 29:54Speaker 7: She had told Damian Bradford that her husband goes to
- 29:58Speaker 7: a mosque on a regular base, and he went there
- 30:01Speaker 7: under her direction.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Donna gave him a map, gave him the route. He
- 30:12Speaker 5: had his nine milimeter handgun. Damien followed the doctor to
- 30:21Speaker 5: the mosque and sat outside the mosque in his car.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Damien was talking to Donna by cell phone, adoring this
- 30:32Speaker 5: whole thing, waiting for a chance to shoot him.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And he was going to basically kill him on the street.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Damian Braffort is sitting outside Gula Mounda's mosque waiting for
- 30:53Speaker 1: a chance to shoot him. He spends the time talking
- 30:57Speaker 1: to coach Donna, who offers and co and friendly advice.
- 31:05Speaker 1: But Damien doesn't get a chance to pull the trigger.
- 31:09Speaker 7: And.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Apparently there was no clear shot available. There was just
- 31:20Speaker 5: never seemed to be the right opportunity. This situation just
- 31:24Speaker 5: never felt right.
- 31:29Speaker 1: So Damien follows Coolan back to his office.
- 31:39Speaker 5: He never tried to assassinate the doctor at that point.
- 31:44Speaker 7: Damien believed it was not a good place or time.
- 31:54Speaker 7: So the mosque plan is a bust. But Damien has
- 31:57Speaker 7: another idea. He went back to the house to see
- 32:00Speaker 7: Donna Munda.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Damien said, why don't we just do it right here
- 32:08Speaker 5: when doctor comes home that very night, and Donna said no,
- 32:14Speaker 5: but we're going to Toledo pretty soon. We'll set something up.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Then Donna and her mother and doctor Mundo were planning
- 32:25Speaker 3: on a car trip to Toledo, Ohio to look at
- 32:28Speaker 3: a house that doctor Munda's nephew was interested in buying.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Donna had established this is the opportunity when Damien could
- 32:37Speaker 3: kill Doctor Munda.
- 32:41Speaker 1: All the time Dona Munda was plotting her husband's murder,
- 32:44Speaker 1: she played the role of the happy wife at home
- 32:47Speaker 1: and in public. And even though Gulam knew about his
- 32:49Speaker 1: wife's affair with Damien, he never let the facade of
- 32:52Speaker 1: happy contentment drop, not even to their closest friends.
- 33:01Speaker 4: And we went to dinner some crab house. There was
- 33:07Speaker 4: not any hint of any discorder, fights or anything like that.
- 33:11Speaker 4: It seemed fairly happy.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Maybe Donna seems fine because she thinks all her troubles
- 33:17Speaker 1: will soon be over. Every ticket of the clock brings
- 33:22Speaker 1: closer the moment when she and Damien will be together,
- 33:26Speaker 1: rich and free. They go over this scheme one last time.
- 33:36Speaker 3: They met earlier in the day, she gave him directions
- 33:40Speaker 3: to Toledo, where they were going. Then they separated.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Donna and Damien now have a plan that convinced will
- 33:53Speaker 1: work and ambush disguise to look like a robbery. It's
- 33:57Speaker 1: all set up. The plans got some flaws, which is
- 34:00Speaker 1: why we know about it. But baby girl and Daddy
- 34:04Speaker 1: they think they got a winner. Tonight, before the trip,
- 34:13Speaker 1: Tomom and Damien texts furiously back and forth like always.
- 34:18Speaker 1: She tells them she'll fall asleep counting little Damiens. Oh
- 34:23Speaker 1: isn't that sweet? May two thousand and five. It's Friday thirteen.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Amien is dressed all in black, dressed in a hoodie
- 34:48Speaker 5: over his head as a baseball cap on a black shirt,
- 34:52Speaker 5: pants the whole nine yards. Damien sits in wait at
- 35:07Speaker 5: a general store near the Munda house.
- 35:14Speaker 3: She sent some text messages that seem monocuous enough, but
- 35:20Speaker 3: were signals that they were leaving.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Damien watches the three of them leave and starts following them.
- 35:33Speaker 1: The Mundas are on their way to Ohio. Donna has
- 35:37Speaker 1: invited her mother Dorothy along for the trip. Nice touch.
- 35:42Speaker 1: What kind of monster would have her husband murdered in
- 35:45Speaker 1: front of her elderly mother. Right Besides, Donna knew her
- 35:52Speaker 1: mom was father of the guy who put her girl
- 35:55Speaker 1: through school. This would be the last chance to spend
- 35:58Speaker 1: some quality time together. Donna and Damien haven't planned out
- 36:06Speaker 1: a location for the hit. At some point, the Mondes
- 36:11Speaker 1: Jag will just pull off the road and Damien will
- 36:15Speaker 1: have to wing it. At first, Gulam's at the wheel
- 36:22Speaker 1: about an hour and he makes a stop a crowded
- 36:31Speaker 1: service plaza. Is no place for a hit, but the
- 36:35Speaker 1: stop does give Donnor a chance to take over driving.
- 36:40Speaker 7: When they came out, she wanted to drive and convinced
- 36:44Speaker 7: doctor Munda to let her drive the vehicle.
- 36:52Speaker 5: When they get out of the rest area, Damien follows
- 36:54Speaker 5: them and they drive for a twenty minute. And it
- 37:03Speaker 5: was very sad and tragic for Gulam, and to me, senseless,
- 37:08Speaker 5: very senseless. I mean, it could have worked something out.
- 37:11Speaker 5: She could have walked away with money. Million bucks is
- 37:14Speaker 5: a lot of money. No matter what her intentions, Donna
- 37:18Speaker 5: was certainly not a hardened criminal by any stretch.
- 37:24Speaker 7: Donovande pretended she had some stomach virus or she was nauseous.
- 37:31Speaker 7: She pulled off Damien sped up got right behind the
- 37:35Speaker 7: vehicle within a couple of carlans. The plan was when
- 37:40Speaker 7: she pulled off, that meant for Damien to pull off
- 37:43Speaker 7: and to execute the plan.
- 37:46Speaker 1: What Donovan Damien had plotted for months is finally going down.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Doctor Munda was on his way out of the vehicle.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Damn in a gunpoint ordered him back in the vehicle
- 38:15Speaker 7: demanded doctor Munder's wallet.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Gulam was very scared. There was fear in his face.
- 38:24Speaker 5: He did not resist in any way, shape or form.
- 38:27Speaker 5: I just followed orders gave him his wallet with about
- 38:33Speaker 5: three thousand dollars in it in cash.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Gulam Unda always carries a big water cash. He's told
- 38:41Speaker 1: his pals it's his survival plan. Anyone who mugs him
- 38:45Speaker 1: will go away happy. The Muggle will be happy, but
- 38:53Speaker 1: Gulam will be dead.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Missus smiles in the back seat behind the doctor. Donna's
- 39:03Speaker 5: in the driver's seat. Amyen basically just puts the gun
- 39:07Speaker 5: to the side of his head and fires.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Dona's a nurse. She acts a part of the emergency specialists.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Donna's doing CPR on the doctor. Doctor Munda is dead
- 39:53Speaker 5: for all intents and purposes, probably as soon as the
- 39:55Speaker 5: bullet hit him. The bullet hits him right up here.
- 40:01Speaker 5: Didn't have a chance.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Damian Bradford is long gone. He tosses the gun and
- 40:16Speaker 1: he tells it back to Pennsylvania.
- 40:22Speaker 5: She was setting up her husband for nothing but money.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Having her own mother witness the crime. It was just horrible, horrible.
- 40:40Speaker 1: When the cops get there, Donna tells them what she saw.
- 40:43Speaker 1: It's a pile of pull designed to mislead them. The guy,
- 40:48Speaker 1: she says, was short, he had a mean voice, and
- 40:50Speaker 1: he was driving him anything.
- 40:52Speaker 6: I don't know, I reason to my person a.
- 40:54Speaker 5: Bonna tells the state police that she can't see the
- 40:57Speaker 5: gunman's face because he has a yoke mask kind of
- 41:00Speaker 5: thing over his face.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Donna's story was she couldn't even tell what race to
- 41:07Speaker 1: killer was. The thing is Donna's mother, Dorothy could She
- 41:11Speaker 1: told the cops the shooter he was an African American.
- 41:14Speaker 1: It's not the only place Dorothy and Donna's story diverged.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Something that short of said and investigators Antenna Quivering pulled
- 41:23Speaker 1: us over, and you pulled over because Buong wanted to drive.
- 41:25Speaker 1: And then this, Dorothy tells police, Donna decided to pull
- 41:30Speaker 1: off the road Donna says it was her husband's idea. Sure,
- 41:36Speaker 1: it's a detail. That's where the devil is right in
- 41:40Speaker 1: the details.
- 41:40Speaker 4: Shut up in the car, and I ran around, and
- 41:42Speaker 4: I started to give him CVR.
- 41:43Speaker 1: That was just one of the things that didn't add up.
- 41:45Speaker 1: The biggest was that people just don't get robbed and
- 41:48Speaker 1: murdered on the sides of turnpikes, not since since the
- 41:51Speaker 1: State eighty was a stagecoach route. Anyway, maybe the double
- 41:55Speaker 1: d's had been watching the wrong kind of shoot them ups.
- 41:58Speaker 1: They're other weird things. I did the highwayman just shoot
- 42:01Speaker 1: one of them. It just wasn't adding up. A few
- 42:06Speaker 1: days later, Donna makes a public plea for help.
- 42:12Speaker 5: Please, if anybody knows anything, please help us. That's all
- 42:16Speaker 5: I'm asking. My husband was such.
- 42:19Speaker 1: A good man.
- 42:21Speaker 2: He was a kind, loving person.
- 42:23Speaker 5: He was a wonderful husband. He did not deserve this.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Actually, the cops are pretty sure Donna is involved, but
- 42:35Speaker 1: they need more than a bad feeling to hang a
- 42:38Speaker 1: murder rap on a grieving widow. The break comes a
- 42:48Speaker 1: week later. The cops get an anonymous call from someone
- 42:52Speaker 1: who's sure Donna's dirty yep. Sharl leads back, I have
- 43:00Speaker 1: some information.
- 43:01Speaker 5: Charlene calls the state police, tells him about Donna. She
- 43:07Speaker 5: doesn't tell her police who she is, but you know,
- 43:10Speaker 5: they figure that out pretty quick.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I have information about a murder that happened on the.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Highway, tells him where Damien lives. The whole nine yards.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Charlene got the ball rolling.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Actually, Charlene wants to sink Donna, but investigators linked Donna
- 43:26Speaker 1: to Damien and he's the one who gets snagged. The
- 43:29Speaker 1: cops hit Damien's apartment. It's big news.
- 43:33Speaker 7: Investigators obtained the search warrant because they say Bradford is
- 43:36Speaker 7: a person of interest in the shooting death of doctor
- 43:39Speaker 7: Gulam Munda.
- 43:41Speaker 1: The evidence in his apartment, bloody clothes, cell phone bills,
- 43:46Speaker 1: and Golam's money is more than enough to bring him in.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Damien knows that Donna's got his back, just like she promised.
- 43:59Speaker 7: He was counting on her to testify that it wasn't him.
- 44:05Speaker 7: She was his star witness. They had the text messages.
- 44:10Speaker 7: They weren't going to deny the affair. The affair was
- 44:14Speaker 7: what it was.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Well, Damien sits in jail. The cops keep building their
- 44:21Speaker 1: case in a bit of a technical coop They actually
- 44:27Speaker 1: map out exactly where Donna and Damien's cell phones were
- 44:30Speaker 1: and the hours leading up to the hit. Damien's only
- 44:37Speaker 1: chance is that his baby girl will rescue her daddy.
- 44:44Speaker 7: So Damien had to hope that Donna was going to
- 44:47Speaker 7: stick to the plan and testify on his behalf and
- 44:50Speaker 7: say it wasn't him. But she chose not to testify.
- 44:57Speaker 7: Dammien took that as a message of every man for himself.
- 45:04Speaker 1: So Damien cut a deal. He admitted to killing Gula
- 45:08Speaker 1: Munda and he agreed to testify against Donna once she
- 45:12Speaker 1: went to dry out. Damien was the prosecution style witness,
- 45:15Speaker 1: and as you can imagine, the media went ballistic.
- 45:21Speaker 5: There was a lot of interest in this case from
- 45:23Speaker 5: the get go because it had everything. I mean, it
- 45:27Speaker 5: had sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
- 45:32Speaker 3: There was a lot of questions of you know, what's
- 45:34Speaker 3: going on here? And it was very very far leap
- 45:38Speaker 3: to go from all right, so they're not getting along
- 45:42Speaker 3: very well to her actually wanting him dead. People are
- 45:49Speaker 3: still grappling with that question. You know, I don't know
- 45:51Speaker 3: that there's an answer to it.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Well, or at least from my personal perspective. I mean,
- 45:58Speaker 4: I had if anybody asked me at that time, I
- 46:03Speaker 4: would say, they're crazy. Do we even mention it, do
- 46:05Speaker 4: or even think of it that she was anyway involved
- 46:08Speaker 4: in that.
- 46:12Speaker 8: Till that day, we were giving her benefit of doubt.
- 46:16Speaker 8: We were very sympathetic. Then it turned it to a
- 46:21Speaker 8: complete hit.
- 46:22Speaker 1: The verdict Dona Munde is guilty. Donna got life without
- 46:27Speaker 1: parole thanks to his plea deal. Damie and Bradford got
- 46:31Speaker 1: seventeen and a half years. If she's still interested, Charlene
- 46:35Speaker 1: can have him back. In twenty twenty two.
- 46:44Speaker 5: A Donna had it all, millionaire's wife, family, friends, She
- 46:50Speaker 5: lost all, She has nothing, she has no money, She's
- 46:54Speaker 5: in jail for the rest of her life.
- 46:57Speaker 6: The Donna that I've always known and loved and still
- 46:59Speaker 6: know and love to this day and keep in touch with.
- 47:03Speaker 6: It would be unfathomable for me to think that she
- 47:06Speaker 6: could have ever mastermind or planned anything that would harm
- 47:12Speaker 6: Galom in any way.
- 47:14Speaker 4: And he was a dear friend like my brother, you know,
- 47:17Speaker 4: and had really admit him deeply, you know.
- 47:22Speaker 5: So it's very senseless for what who gained anything, Nobody won.
- 47:30Speaker 1: It's never made sense to anybody but Donner and Damien.
- 47:34Speaker 1: There was another pet. Let's travel by, but people take
- 47:38Speaker 1: it every day. Donnor and Damien were on the road
- 47:40Speaker 1: to recovery. They got turned around. They had their eyes
- 47:43Speaker 1: on the wrong price. They might recover from their addictions,
- 47:47Speaker 1: maybe they already have. But gul On Moonda never will.
- 47:50Speaker 1: He never even had the chance to understand what was
- 47:53Speaker 1: happening to him. It was just a senseless crimes.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Most
