- Yankees win the tight one! This is The Sports Reset for Saturday August 8th In MLB, the New York Yankees edged the Atlanta Braves 3 to 2 at Yankee Stadium, and the result landed in a matchup built around pitching, with New York carrying one of the league’s strongest ERA profiles and Ben Rice supplying the season-long thump with 30 homers and 71 RBIs. The Boston Red Sox had the loudest baseball result, rolling past the Athletics 13 to 1 at Fenway Park, while the Houston Astros handled the San Diego Padres 6 to 3. The Arizona Diamondbacks also clipped the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 3, a sharp response against a Dodgers team that came in with elite offensive and run-prevention numbers. In the WNBA, the Connecticut Sun beat the Phoenix Mercury 75 to 72, and the Golden State Valkyries beat the Dallas Wings 94 to 76. Looking ahead, MLB runs it back with the Atlanta Braves at the New York Yankees, plus the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Arizona Diamondbacks after Arizona’s one-run win last night. The Dodgers still bring one of baseball’s best overall profiles, ranking near the top in runs, hits, on-base rate, and run prevention, so that rematch has real rebound energy. In the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces visit the Minnesota Lynx in the day’s top basketball game, with Las Vegas and Minnesota both sitting near the top of the league in scoring and field-goal percentage, and Jackie Young and Natasha Howard highlighted as key players. The Indiana Fever also visit the Chicago Sky, with Caitlin Clark leading a Fever offense first in points per game against Kamilla Cardoso and Chicago. In golf, Beau Hossler starts the next Wyndham Championship stage at 12 under, one shot clear of Jordan Smith and Ben James.
