Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I am the main singer, the main songwriter for.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Fist, and we are Fist, which is the stupidest being
- 0:06Speaker 2: name we could have come.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Up with, but it's stuck.
- 0:10Speaker 2: And we've got our single coming out Kaboom Motherfucker. I
- 0:13Speaker 2: don't know if you have to bleep that or not
- 0:15Speaker 2: coming out that's what we want coming out on the seventeenth,
- 0:21Speaker 2: and then kicking off with the tour which is going
- 0:25Speaker 2: all up and down the coast.
- 0:26Speaker 1: There's three shows but all four shows, but it's gonna
- 0:29Speaker 1: be a lot of driving.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Fantastic Broth. Thanks for joining us today. O preasure to speak.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Again anytime, anytime.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Anything's good, anything's good.
- 0:41Speaker 3: So Fist Our premiering your debut studio single couple Motherfucker
- 0:45Speaker 3: through Heavy this Wednesday, June fifteenth at four pm Queensland time,
- 0:49Speaker 3: before the official release on Fridays. So it's a nice
- 0:53Speaker 3: little late Christmas present for fans.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Ah well, I mean it's it's a very late Christmas present.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It should have been out the year before, but we're
- 1:01Speaker 2: finally getting into it. We did a live album so
- 1:03Speaker 2: we could try cover up and you know, get as
- 1:05Speaker 2: much out of those songs as we can before we
- 1:08Speaker 2: have to actually pay all the money to record them.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So it's about time we're finally getting something done. I'm
- 1:13Speaker 1: sure people are very happy with it.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And everything about the song streams danger mate, from the
- 1:19Speaker 3: title to the way it's written in capitals, Like it's
- 1:22Speaker 3: definitely making a statement for FIST moving forward, isn't it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, which was okay, kind of unexpected. It was this
- 1:30Speaker 2: song was almost left on the cutting floor. What we
- 1:35Speaker 2: almost well, I almost deleted this whole song, Like I
- 1:38Speaker 2: wrote this by myself in the just in my room,
- 1:41Speaker 2: fucking during COVID, and I was this close to deleting
- 1:45Speaker 2: it because the chorus doing the kaboom I've never written,
- 1:48Speaker 2: like writing down the words kaboom just seems stupid. And
- 1:51Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this is this is a bit
- 1:53Speaker 2: of a dumb song. I don't think I don't think
- 1:54Speaker 2: this is worth it. I'll show the guys just in case.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And they were like, if you delete that, man, Nah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: that's a great song. Let's fucking let's do it. And
- 2:03Speaker 2: everyone seems to love it. It's the one people remember
- 2:06Speaker 2: was this close to being deleted.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Wow, there you go, better admit made. I was a
- 2:11Speaker 3: little disappointed that you left the vowels out of the
- 2:13Speaker 3: spelling and motherfucker. But I got to give you the
- 2:15Speaker 3: betnef of the doubt and say, maybe it was a
- 2:16Speaker 3: typo you're not getting soft?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Uh oh, the title was that was months of like,
- 2:23Speaker 2: so we're trying to get it so it's perfect for
- 2:26Speaker 2: search engine optimization and whatnot, which is why the vowels
- 2:31Speaker 2: are left out, because we'll get more hits if it's
- 2:33Speaker 2: not an actual.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Swear word, which is ridiculous.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But and there was no other songs called well, there
- 2:40Speaker 2: was a few called kaboom, but without anything else on it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So we've all right, that's how people remember the name
- 2:46Speaker 2: of the song. Let's call it that, and we'll put
- 2:48Speaker 2: in the little little part so it step separates us
- 2:50Speaker 2: from everyone else. So that's that's the reason there's no
- 2:54Speaker 2: vowels not getting soft.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yet I get to say, like that could be the
- 2:59Speaker 3: real reason. Let's the official reason is because of vows
- 3:01Speaker 3: we're working on your on your keyboard and that way.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 2: By the single, send us money because we need new keyboards.
- 3:12Speaker 3: More about the song from a musical point of view
- 3:14Speaker 3: and what you're going for.
- 3:15Speaker 2: With it, Well, originally It was called Hindrance because I
- 3:20Speaker 2: was writing a short EP and it was the last
- 3:23Speaker 2: track on the EP, and I was like, I need
- 3:25Speaker 2: something and this this thing has just been an absolute
- 3:28Speaker 2: hindrance to me.
- 3:29Speaker 1: That's what I named it for.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And I wrote it in like probably two three hours,
- 3:34Speaker 2: the whole thing pretty much, and I guess the main
- 3:39Speaker 2: main theme was just getting sick of everyone telling everyone
- 3:43Speaker 2: else how to do their shit, Like it's very much like,
- 3:47Speaker 2: we'll do it our own way. I'm sick of all
- 3:51Speaker 2: how it's all supposed to be done and all the
- 3:52Speaker 2: rules behind all songwriting and shit like that. It doesn't
- 3:55Speaker 2: have to be you don't have to be set in stone,
- 3:57Speaker 2: like if you're a metal band, you don't have to
- 3:59Speaker 2: just play metal songs.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You can do other shit makes it interesting. It was
- 4:03Speaker 1: very much a coming to terms with like.
- 4:15Speaker 2: The status quo, like not break trying to break what
- 4:17Speaker 2: everyone else is sort of doing, and very chromatic, so
- 4:20Speaker 2: it was just like this is I hope this I
- 4:23Speaker 2: hope this song pisces people off a little bit for
- 4:26Speaker 2: a backfired.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And at the moment she hasn't got a music video,
- 4:30Speaker 3: but is there one coming?
- 4:32Speaker 1: Or I believe there is one? Rowan was talking about
- 4:36Speaker 1: getting one done.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I did a home budget one, a very sort of
- 4:41Speaker 2: crappy one that people seem to enjoy. So it got
- 4:44Speaker 2: taken down a few times because of some of the
- 4:46Speaker 2: extra clips that I added to it, not copyrte offensive
- 4:52Speaker 2: content or whatever that was into it. So there is
- 4:56Speaker 2: like a bit of a music video already that was
- 4:59Speaker 2: very home done with the with the demo song. But no,
- 5:02Speaker 2: at the moment, there is no no music video coming
- 5:05Speaker 2: out just yet. I think we're looking into getting an
- 5:08Speaker 2: artist to do sort of a cartoon cross with us playing,
- 5:13Speaker 2: but we've been having a fair bit of trouble finding
- 5:15Speaker 2: the right artist to help us out with that.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Well, there's an idea out of left field where you
- 5:20Speaker 3: should have it like a like a Batman comic and
- 5:22Speaker 3: the big word thing.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I was going, come, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely, that's
- 5:27Speaker 2: that's the sort of artwork that would be over the
- 5:29Speaker 2: top a pal.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Does she stand alone single matter or is it part
- 5:35Speaker 3: of a bigger picture?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Uh?
- 5:37Speaker 2: Well, a bit of both, I guess, because we're under
- 5:41Speaker 2: the we're under the impression that the album's albums are
- 5:44Speaker 2: sort of on the way out, and it's very much
- 5:46Speaker 2: releasing singles now. So the goal I guess that we're
- 5:51Speaker 2: working with is releasing singles month by month and then
- 5:55Speaker 2: at the end of like a run, say ten signal
- 5:58Speaker 2: singles or whatever, then we can piece that together into
- 6:02Speaker 2: an album.
- 6:03Speaker 3: It's a way to do it these days.
- 6:04Speaker 1: A yeah, and get it mastered separately after the fact.
- 6:08Speaker 2: You know, some songs might not it might not make it,
- 6:12Speaker 2: But singles I think are the way to go, especially nowadays, because.
- 6:15Speaker 3: People haven't got the attention to sit.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Down to listen to an album right.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Indeed, now people out there like they might hear or
- 6:22Speaker 3: they might read that this is your debut single and
- 6:24Speaker 3: just assume that first still have your musical baby teeth made.
- 6:27Speaker 3: But you've been tauring extensively live since June in twenty
- 6:30Speaker 3: twenty three. Was there was there a reason why you
- 6:34Speaker 3: decided to tour heaps before you put the music out,
- 6:36Speaker 3: and most mens put music out then tour for it.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But you've done it, asked about face, Well.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I've always thought that the songs songs change quite a
- 6:46Speaker 2: bit if you play them live.
- 6:48Speaker 1: For us.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They always have they We play them live a thousand times,
- 6:51Speaker 2: and it's like, okay, some things here are really working,
- 6:53Speaker 2: some aren't. So we wanted to make sure we knew
- 6:55Speaker 2: exactly what we were going to put it down on
- 6:58Speaker 2: her like onto paper, so that at the end of
- 7:01Speaker 2: the day we were happy with it and things wouldn't change.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But also being broke musicians is a big part of
- 7:09Speaker 2: the reason, Like it's expensive to get shit done well
- 7:12Speaker 2: if you want it done really well.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And doing all.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Those gigs was able to give us like because we
- 7:19Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty dollars, you know, two hundred and
- 7:21Speaker 2: fifty dollars split between the three guys, it doesn't really
- 7:23Speaker 2: we're not in it for that. So we just put
- 7:25Speaker 2: all of our money back into a band fun and
- 7:27Speaker 2: we just saved up for the time, like over all
- 7:29Speaker 2: those shows and made sure we got at our chops
- 7:32Speaker 2: so when we went into the studio, we knew what
- 7:34Speaker 2: we were doing.
- 7:35Speaker 3: So by the time we get into the studio and
- 7:37Speaker 3: record all those songs that you've been playing live for
- 7:39Speaker 3: a long time, like how much have they changed from
- 7:41Speaker 3: when you first started then you've taken them live.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Some of them don't change at all, some of them
- 7:47Speaker 2: will change. Something will completely scratch and get rid of
- 7:50Speaker 2: because they just don't work. For us, but for Kaboom,
- 7:55Speaker 2: I think that stayed pretty much the same the whole
- 7:57Speaker 2: way from demo to to.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Release, except for the bowels.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, except except for the vowels. Yeah, you're right right, Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 2: so that that one definitely change. Didn't change at all
- 8:14Speaker 2: really and honestly probably yeah, not too many changed that much,
- 8:20Speaker 2: but there's definitely some things that it's like because I
- 8:23Speaker 2: write a lot of the songs and I will bring
- 8:24Speaker 2: them to the band and the guys will learn. They
- 8:28Speaker 2: usually start off with what I've written, because I'll write
- 8:30Speaker 2: the bass and drums and things like that for them,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and they'll take sort of inspiration from that, but very
- 8:34Speaker 2: much change it over the time. So if I've written
- 8:38Speaker 2: a new song, we can pretty much get it on
- 8:41Speaker 2: like playable for live in a few weeks, But then
- 8:46Speaker 2: after a few months they'll really put their own taste
- 8:49Speaker 2: into it and their own little spin on their parts
- 8:51Speaker 2: instead of just using what I've written.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That's a big part of the reason too.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Now, you guys pretty much sein his high school. When
- 9:01Speaker 3: you've put the band together, playing in a little town
- 9:03Speaker 3: in Nelson Bay, he's sort of gone through the whole light.
- 9:06Speaker 3: You've decided to make music your career, Like it's a
- 9:08Speaker 3: couple of years on from it now, Like was it
- 9:11Speaker 3: easier than you thought it was gonna be or was
- 9:12Speaker 3: it harder or.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean bits and pieces, it's.
- 9:20Speaker 2: It's definitely fucking difficult, especially the business side, which I
- 9:24Speaker 2: can't can't mend row enough, Like Rowan does an amazing
- 9:28Speaker 2: job on the business side, and like we we owe
- 9:31Speaker 2: him a lot to that that that's been like we've
- 9:34Speaker 2: only really he started knuckling down.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I guess about June when we started doing lots of gigs.
- 9:39Speaker 2: He was like, I'm over this. So I'm getting too
- 9:41Speaker 2: old to be telling people I'm in a band. I
- 9:43Speaker 2: need to actually be doing something with it instead of
- 9:45Speaker 2: just playing in a room once every few weeks. So yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 2: it's and I mean, I've been writing music since I
- 9:51Speaker 2: was in high school, so I've always thought that, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: all my songs are the best, I'll get famous one
- 9:56Speaker 2: day without ever doing anything. Now we're actual doing something
- 10:00Speaker 2: so that you can actually have a better chance at that.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, I gotta say, like heaps of bands come
- 10:06Speaker 3: across my desk here and I don't get a chance
- 10:08Speaker 3: to listen to all of them. But you guys. From
- 10:10Speaker 3: the very first time I heard your music, and it's like,
- 10:13Speaker 3: we're just fucking maniacs. You know, there's something about the
- 10:16Speaker 3: music that was pretty chill. It mate, like for everyone
- 10:19Speaker 3: else out there, he's never heard of this before. Tell
- 10:21Speaker 3: us a bit about yourselves and what you do do.
- 10:26Speaker 1: This has always been a tough question, what genre, What
- 10:29Speaker 1: do we sound like?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Just yes, yeah, your approach to music and your ferocity, and.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It's like fun fun.
- 10:38Speaker 2: A lot of bands, too many bands get up there
- 10:40Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, this next songs for anyone who's
- 10:42Speaker 2: been through heartbreak, and they get real serious about it,
- 10:45Speaker 2: and it's like, I don't know you well enough to
- 10:48Speaker 2: fucking connect with you on that level. I'm here either
- 10:51Speaker 2: just at the pub having a few drinks or I'm
- 10:53Speaker 2: here to have some fun. So that's that's been one
- 10:56Speaker 2: hundred percent of the focus the whole time is have
- 10:59Speaker 2: fun and make put on a show where people can
- 11:01Speaker 2: have fun. So like, if we're not perfect one night,
- 11:04Speaker 2: we make a few mistakes, it doesn't matter. We lean
- 11:06Speaker 2: into it. And same with the music, Like when we
- 11:08Speaker 2: write it, I'll listen to it a bunch of times
- 11:11Speaker 2: in the car and you know, as after a demo
- 11:13Speaker 2: is done and if something's not working, like if I
- 11:16Speaker 2: get bored or I feel like I'm not paying attention,
- 11:18Speaker 2: my brain picks up on that and I go, Okay,
- 11:20Speaker 2: there's something here in this song that's made me lose interest.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I need to figure out how to just retain interest.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Make the songs as fun as possible, and make our
- 11:30Speaker 2: live shows as fun as possible. And that's the compliment
- 11:32Speaker 2: we get the most. People tell us where we're a
- 11:34Speaker 2: lot of fun. I might not be the best band,
- 11:39Speaker 2: but we're fun. That's the main thing. Our shows are fun.
- 11:42Speaker 3: And people have got a chance to see that for
- 11:44Speaker 3: themselves starting this week. You got to show in Sydney
- 11:47Speaker 3: on January seventeenth, which it's this Friday. Come and we
- 11:50Speaker 3: seehit in camera our Central Coast and Newcastle mate. So
- 11:53Speaker 3: what can people expect? Like, we've got the fun I aspect,
- 11:56Speaker 3: but what else can people expect when they come along?
- 11:57Speaker 3: To get fisted.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And plenty of dumb fucking jokes. That's the reason the
- 12:07Speaker 2: band's called Fist. The content rights itself. You say that
- 12:10Speaker 2: at the end of every show, you know we've been fisted,
- 12:12Speaker 2: and you've been fisted, or you've been a bunch of
- 12:14Speaker 2: loose assholes, the jokes right themselves and we Yeah, probably
- 12:19Speaker 2: they can expect a bit of comedy as well.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Definitely, people like find out more about the band themselves
- 12:25Speaker 3: or listening to the music you've got coming out to
- 12:26Speaker 3: the best place.
- 12:28Speaker 2: We are on all of the socials, the best one
- 12:30Speaker 2: at the moment probably would be Instagram. I think that's
- 12:33Speaker 2: one that gets the most attention from us because we're
- 12:36Speaker 2: old now and TikTok's kind of difficult.
- 12:38Speaker 1: For old people.
- 12:40Speaker 2: YouTube, We've got a bit coming out there and got
- 12:42Speaker 2: live album on Spotify, which is live album is very
- 12:47Speaker 2: well mixed, thankfully, it does a good job at conveying
- 12:50Speaker 2: what we're about. Yeah, definitely the Instagram and the YouTube,
- 12:54Speaker 2: because we're going to be having videos and we're constantly
- 12:57Speaker 2: putting out short videos and things like that.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Content that is fun, not just like hey comes see
- 13:02Speaker 1: us wear cool next next. Yeah. Yeah, before you came over, We've.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Got a new segment called photo Bomb, So basically I
- 13:11Speaker 3: troll through your social media before we speak and I
- 13:13Speaker 3: picked out a couple of photos. I want to talk
- 13:15Speaker 3: about about. This one. I want to know was this
- 13:19Speaker 3: taken at the start of the bender or after it?
- 13:23Speaker 2: Uh, that would have been at the start. Yep, that
- 13:26Speaker 2: was definitely at the start, because the idea was make
- 13:29Speaker 2: sure you're wearing your nice clothes. We've got to take
- 13:31Speaker 2: band photos, and taking band photos sucks, like stand in
- 13:36Speaker 2: line with three of your best mates and look serious.
- 13:39Speaker 1: We can't do that. We can't do that at all.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So I was like, let's just get on the beers,
- 13:44Speaker 2: get on the pier, and we'll see what comes out
- 13:46Speaker 2: of it.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Hopefully we get some good photos and.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Know about the photos. What happened after that? Where did
- 13:50Speaker 3: you go and what did you do?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Ah? What day was that?
- 13:55Speaker 2: That's out the back of Rowan's apartment. Hey, yeah, we
- 13:59Speaker 2: just probably we stayed at his place and just got
- 14:01Speaker 2: hammered after that. I'd say there's a lot of those
- 14:04Speaker 2: nights though, so it gets a bit.
- 14:06Speaker 3: There are those bins full of beer bottles by the
- 14:08Speaker 3: end of it.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah, well they're the fish and chip shop bins, so
- 14:12Speaker 2: they get pretty mad at us when we fill it up.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I've found one more photo for you, and I want
- 14:19Speaker 3: to know have you got any more photos of this night?
- 14:21Speaker 3: Because I reckon it would have been a pearler.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'm going to be completely honest with you, that one
- 14:28Speaker 2: was all rolling by himself, so he had a solo
- 14:31Speaker 2: night doing all that. Yeah. Yeah, we've got a couple
- 14:36Speaker 2: of big rubber fists that well his property. We don't
- 14:41Speaker 2: use them too much, but they come out for shows
- 14:43Speaker 2: and I'm sure he used them that night a bit.
- 14:46Speaker 2: And I think we should actually come out with real lube,
- 14:48Speaker 2: like that's a fake bottle. He's done up for the photo,
- 14:50Speaker 2: but I reckon we should start selling real fist lube.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Second time you've disappointed me in one interview, mane fake lube.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Well, I mean the idea is that our lube that
- 15:00Speaker 2: we sell is just row and spit, So it's not
- 15:03Speaker 2: it's not really fake, but it's it's it's not the
- 15:07Speaker 2: best quality, all right.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Well, unfortunately went on the next rated show, so we're
- 15:12Speaker 3: gonna have to pull it up there, mate, But the
- 15:14Speaker 3: Sigretuer is out officially on Friday. Check it out through
- 15:18Speaker 3: Heavy from four pm on Wednesday afternoon. Mate, And thanks
- 15:22Speaker 3: for your time. Were sure let me come to Brisbane.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Make sure you let me know.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Well, we'll get a mailing list going
