- 0:00Speaker 1: Of interest.
- 0:00Speaker 2: So you're telling me this is an email of interest.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. And I want to thank Sketchy Blake
- 0:10Speaker 1: of Ogden, who does his best to keep Ogden sketchy
- 0:15Speaker 1: and he's been following this for us. He says, Dear
- 0:17Speaker 1: Radio from Hell team, this is your Radio from Hellfield report,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Sketchy Blake of Ogden, reporting in your humble servant in
- 0:27Speaker 1: the trenches of mid tier mystery and large frozen apex predators.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I come to you today with breaking news the long
- 0:35Speaker 1: lost baby seal hunting icon of Idaho mall culture, the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Carture Mall polar Bear. There he is has beneficially located.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Go to X ninety six dot com slash live.
- 0:48Speaker 1: He's about to devour a baby seal. Do we need
- 0:52Speaker 1: to do background on this?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so stop there for just a second. So this
- 0:56Speaker 3: was a couple of weeks ago.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been going on for a minute somehow.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Bill was talking about Idaho and I said, you know,
- 1:03Speaker 3: I lived in Idaho for a while when I was little.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I lived in Nampa, Idaho.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And Bill said, what do you remember about living in Nampa, Idaho?
- 1:10Speaker 3: And the first thing that came to my mind was
- 1:13Speaker 3: the carture mall in Nampa, Idaho had a giant stuffed
- 1:18Speaker 3: polar bear stepping on a baby seal getting ready to
- 1:22Speaker 3: eat it. And I always wondered what happened to that?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we then we found out. You wondered if it
- 1:28Speaker 1: was still there. We got reports. No, it's not still there.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Well where did it go? Well, Sketchy Blake has tracked
- 1:35Speaker 1: it down, he says. Now, before we celebrate with commemorative fingerstakes,
- 1:40Speaker 1: let me walk you through how we got here. Fueled
- 1:43Speaker 1: by an insatiable desire for the truth and several un
- 1:47Speaker 1: medicated ADHD spirals, I embarked on a digital expedition. A
- 1:53Speaker 1: few reverse image searches later, I find myself exactly where
- 1:57Speaker 1: no one hopes to end up the Fargo, North Dakota
- 2:01Speaker 1: sub reddit. I said a prayer to Saint Carhart, very clever,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and then bravely posted about my quest for a taxidermied
- 2:12Speaker 1: polar bear, expecting either help or a restraining order. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: was quickly informed, politely, because Midwesterners don't do public shame,
- 2:20Speaker 1: that there is no Cabella's in Fargo. So that's that's
- 2:24Speaker 1: the report we had that somebody else, Yes, Cabellas and
- 2:28Speaker 1: Fargo but there was a bass Pro shops in East
- 2:31Speaker 1: Grand Forks, Minnesota, which used to be a Cabella's. And yes,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I know Minnesota isn't North Dakota, but in Flyover Country,
- 2:39Speaker 1: state lines are just decorative. Armed with this information and
- 2:43Speaker 1: nothing else to do, on my lunch break, I did
- 2:45Speaker 1: what any serious investigative journalists slash it professional would do.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I cold called the East Grand Forks Bass Pro shop.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I pressed zero, I spoke to a human. Her name
- 2:58Speaker 1: was Carrie. I explained my polar bear obsession, I mean investigation,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and politely asked if she could send a photo. After
- 3:07Speaker 1: reassuring her that yes, my name is Sketchy Blake, but
- 3:10Speaker 1: no I'm not a weirdo calling random Minnesota's about Minnesota's
- 3:14Speaker 1: about dead animals. She agreed, and folks she delivered. Attached
- 3:19Speaker 1: his photographic proof of the bear in question, proudly displayed
- 3:23Speaker 1: at the Bass Pro in East Grand Forks. The stance,
- 3:27Speaker 1: the size, the overwhelming ara of I once lived next
- 3:30Speaker 1: to a hot dog on a stick. Mystery solved? Does
- 3:37Speaker 1: that look like that's him? That's him? That is him?
- 3:41Speaker 1: Uh wow? This has been your radio from Hellfield report.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm Sketchy Blake of Ogden, still fingerstakless, still full of questions,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but now finally full of closure. Back to you, lords
- 3:54Speaker 1: of morning Radio.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Well done, Sketchy Blake.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I am so happy with.
- 3:59Speaker 2: This investigative journalism at its finest.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I think we need to Blake. If you could get
- 4:08Speaker 1: just some contact information for Carrie at the Bass Pro shops,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I think we should send her a little note, a
- 4:13Speaker 1: handwritten note of thank you.
- 4:15Speaker 3: We could send her a coffee mug maybe, or something,
- 4:19Speaker 3: or some stickers at least say thank you.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You helped solve this mystery and you came through with
- 4:25Speaker 1: photos and we're very happy about that, so thank you.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm so happy about all of this.
- 4:31Speaker 3: It has been a long investigation keeping up with all
- 4:34Speaker 3: of this because, Okay, so there's a giant stuffed polar
- 4:37Speaker 3: bear at the mall and then it's not there. That's
- 4:39Speaker 3: not something that gets taken to the landfill. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 3: that ends up somewhere.
- 4:45Speaker 1: But here's my question. It's relatively appropriate to have it
- 4:51Speaker 1: be a part of a diorama at a Bass Pro
- 4:53Speaker 1: shop or a Cabella's, but what in God's name was
- 4:56Speaker 1: it doing in the middle of a mall?
- 4:58Speaker 3: You know, I remember there being a plaque there, and
- 5:02Speaker 3: I'm sure it explained.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Oh, Blake, Blake, where what became of the plaque that
- 5:11Speaker 1: was with the bear? And what did it say?
- 5:13Speaker 3: But I'm sure. I mean, I was really young at
- 5:16Speaker 3: the time, but it occurs to me it probably said
- 5:20Speaker 3: where it came from.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Maybe it was a a Idaho.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Resident who I shot it? And here's my my, your guess,
- 5:31Speaker 1: my guess about it. So I tried to find out.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Carcher Mall was obviously named after somebody named Carterer. Mister Carcher.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I'm guessing that mister Carcher was a hunter, could be
- 5:44Speaker 1: and he and he bagged that bear at some point
- 5:46Speaker 1: and had a taxidermy. It could be, I bet you.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's I just kind of guess, and that's what it is.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I always thought it was illegal to kill polar bears.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Maybe not way back in the day, but it's no
- 5:57Speaker 2: You can feel like suicide to even try it.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Though I guess is today you can still get a
- 6:02Speaker 1: permit to kill a part I mean, I guess permits
- 6:04Speaker 1: maybe well they're endangered, but I don't think you can.
- 6:08Speaker 3: But if this was back in the sixty excuse me,
- 6:11Speaker 3: that's different.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Excuse me, who what administration are we living under right now?
- 6:15Speaker 1: I mean, you can get a permit to kill a pet.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You're not wrong.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You're going to make me google.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Can you get a per kin? I think there, I
- 6:25Speaker 1: think it's probably possible. They give out one year or
- 6:29Speaker 1: that's heartbreaking. And here's the way they here's the way
- 6:32Speaker 1: they justify it. It's it. They charge an awful lot
- 6:37Speaker 1: of money for it. And they say, we we we
- 6:39Speaker 1: are using this money to help preserve the polar bear.
- 6:43Speaker 2: We're going to kill them.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Well kill, yeah, they That's done all the time.
- 6:49Speaker 3: In Alaska, Natives can harvest polar bears for sustenance without
- 6:55Speaker 3: a permit. Natives, non indigenous hunters can participate in a
- 7:02Speaker 3: guided hunt with a permit.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I'm shocked. I hate that.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah, they are.
- 7:12Speaker 1: But you can get a permit to kill anything in
- 7:14Speaker 1: this country. You can get a permit to kill anything
- 7:17Speaker 1: in this world.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I hate that. Okay, yeah, I.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Don't like that. I don't like it either.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Well, to end on a sad note, that was an
- 7:26Speaker 2: email of interest, Thank you Sketchy Blake, Well, excellent work.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I still want to find see if you can find
- 7:35Speaker 1: the plaque, Blake.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Blake says, don't inflame my ADHD and make me search
- 7:39Speaker 3: for the play.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Blake, you have done enough your phone not have you have?
- 7:43Speaker 3: You have more than done enough.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Although we don't have any fingerstakes.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You have more more than done enough.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Blake. All right, yeah, okay, yeah, I'm sorry. I was
- 7:54Speaker 1: just looking at something else, but it's not important. Let's
- 7:57Speaker 1: see Boner candidate number one. These are the owners you'll
- 8:00Speaker 1: be voting for in a moment. Number one is well,
- 8:03Speaker 1: now you'll have twenty years worth of orgasms in prison.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Boner candidate number two, is this the play about the
- 8:12Speaker 1: barber who kills people? And Boner candidate number three he
- 8:20Speaker 1: loosed his raccoon into the Big Apple bar and grill Wow.
