- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today. It's muggy out there — windward showers, light winds, and higher-than-normal water levels mean stay back from exposed shorelines around afternoon high tide.
- 1:41Today and Wednesday stay humid with frequent showers, especially on the windward and mauka sides of Kauaʻi and Oʻahu. The light winds make it feel still and thick. If you're heading to the beach, aim for the leeward coasts — the west and south sides will stay mostly dry.
- 1:55Surf is small across most of the islands right now. Oʻahu's south shore is running 3.3 feet — comfortable for swimmers. The north shore at Waimea is a bit choppier at 4.1 feet, so watch for shore break. Kauaʻi's Hanalei is moderate at 5.2 feet. Big Island and Maui are both calm, so if you're looking for a gentle entry to the water, either of those islands is your place today.
- 2:14Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several closures in place. Kahuku Unit Roads are closed, Kīpukapuaulu Trail is temporarily shut due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under replacement. Kīlauea is at an advisory level — if you're heading to the park, check the site for current conditions before you go.
- 2:30If you're on Oʻahu's north shore this week, we just posted a guide to big-wave contest season — where to park, when swells actually show up, and how to spectate safely from the beach. It's a practical read if you're curious about the winter scene but visiting in the off-season, because the infrastructure and the crowds tell you a lot about how seriously these beaches are taken. Full piece is on the site.
- 2:50Thursday through the weekend, drier air moves in, winds pick up, and conditions stabilize across all the islands.
- 2:56If you're beach-bound today, our Oʻahu and Maui guides break down which spots stay dry when the windward side is getting soaked. Catch you tomorrow.
