- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good afternoon. The girls are getting all tucked
- 0:32in as you can hear. Everyone's arguing about their
- 0:34spaces, where they're going to go, who's going to sit where.
- 0:38It's always hysterical when they get like this because they don't
- 0:41want to share spaces and there's so much space for everybody, but
- 0:43they get particular about where they're going to be.
- 0:46Anyway, I am talking to you today about winter solstice, and
- 0:53today actually is marking the beginning of the first day and
- 0:59of it in the Northern hemisphere.
- 1:01And here's another fun fact about this.
- 1:04It's also the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
- 1:10And for me, I know it's like the it's the first day of winter.
- 1:13It marks the first day of winter.
- 1:14So everyone always goes, oh, it's the first day of winter.
- 1:19But for me, I'm like, no, no, no, this is the longest night of
- 1:24the year and it's the shortest day of the year.
- 1:28Therefore, no matter what season you label it, winter, even
- 1:31though it's still winter, this is in fact the beginning of the
- 1:35climb back towards spring. So I have conditioned myself to
- 1:40think of this a little differently so that I feel good
- 1:43about it because the winters can be harsh and they can be long
- 1:47and they can be cold and not, not great growing.
- 1:51But when you start to think of it like, OK, we have now hit
- 1:55that line where we're going to crawl out of it.
- 1:57We're going to begin the crawl out incrementally, little by
- 2:01little, inch by inch every day we're crawling out of it.
- 2:03To me, that makes all the difference in the world.
- 2:06I, I just love the fact that I can start focusing on that.
- 2:09That spring is right around the corner.
- 2:11In fact, so much so I'm like, OK, during my break from
- 2:15coaching over between Christmas and New Year's, I'm, I'm going
- 2:18to set up all in my racks. I'm going to like go in there,
- 2:22clean everything up, wash everything, get it all
- 2:24organized. That's right, Sammy, and get
- 2:27everything fixed up so that I feel like I am ahead of the
- 2:30game. And I think when you start doing
- 2:34those kind of things and you start looking at what can I do
- 2:37to make myself feel better in the dead of winter other than
- 2:41just eating cozy food and piling blankets on and not moving it,
- 2:47it keeps you in a better rhythm. It keeps that energy moving.
- 2:51And listen, we are nothing but pure energy.
- 2:54Human beings are 100% energy in every level.
- 2:58And we have to tap into that energy in order to stay healthy
- 3:02mentally as well as physically. So when we get into this place,
- 3:05it's and it's totally OK to take days where you're just like, OK,
- 3:08I'm watching Christmas movies or holiday movies this whole time.
- 3:12I'm not doing anything. I'm just going to sit on the
- 3:14floor and wrap presents or whatever it is that you want to
- 3:16do. So it's totally okay.
- 3:18You just can't do it all every single day because that's when
- 3:21it becomes unhealthy. That's when it becomes a
- 3:24problem. So my belief is now that we hit
- 3:28the winter solstice, now that we know winter is, you know, it's
- 3:33first day of winter, who cares what that label is?
- 3:37This season is all about coming back out of it.
- 3:40Now it's coming back out of it and the planning.
- 3:43So it's time to sit down and say, OK, if I'm going to do my
- 3:46goal setting, do goal setting, if I'm going to sit there and
- 3:50debrief what I did this year, great, do that.
- 3:52If it's going to be about OK, I'm going to start focusing on
- 3:56what am I? What is my next season going to
- 3:58look like in future pace what that season's going to look like
- 4:02this. This is the time to really do it
- 4:03and celebrate that that the solstice is the beginning of
- 4:08coming out of it. Really it is to me.
- 4:10That's what it's all about. I I have I have gone through my
- 4:14winter Blues six ways to Sunday because I can't you know,
- 4:19there's not a lot of growing. I mean, although I can want
- 4:22that's my goal is to get to that point and I am working up to
- 4:26that. But there's always something
- 4:29about this time of the year that causes people to say whether
- 4:35it's the Gray skies or the the rain or the snow, whatever it
- 4:39might be, it gives us that. And in order to get that black
- 4:43off, you have to have a plan. So I am encouraging you to adopt
- 4:47A principle of saying, wait, this is it.
- 4:50This today was the day, December 21st.
- 4:52And from here we move up. And yes, it might be labeled as
- 4:55winter, but I can sit there and say, yes, but each day we're
- 4:59gaining light now, each day we're gaining something.
- 5:01Each day we're moving closer to that.
- 5:04And enjoy the fact that you have this time to build whatever is
- 5:09in your mind for that next season or just enjoy this season
- 5:13the way it is and say, OK, I am energy.
- 5:16So I'm going to focus on the good stuff about it.
- 5:19Maybe it's time to make a blanket.
- 5:20Maybe it's time to do something like when I went and made that
- 5:24chunky blanket. Go get some yarn, learn on
- 5:27YouTube, make a chunky blanket. I don't know, paint, do
- 5:30something, but utilize this time knowing that this is the crawl
- 5:35out. My friends, this is where we
- 5:36begin. So I hope you have a blessed day
- 5:39and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
