- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast this week on your
- 0:13Speaker 1: gabble gabble.
- 0:14Speaker 2: If you think goattate Baby Jesus but can't prove it,
- 0:16Speaker 2: are you entitled the money? One of these judges will
- 0:20Speaker 2: tell you Judge Ross, and if you want to leave
- 0:23Speaker 2: a sorority so badly, but you feel like you'd make
- 0:26Speaker 2: your friend sad and she.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Gives, what do you do with? Judge Mabelee Karen tells
- 0:31Speaker 1: us real people, real cases, say just this is your gall.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Not one of our veteran I will say this, It
- 0:38Speaker 2: wasn't one of my better da it's our worst intro,
- 0:40Speaker 2: but I do think it's our least understandable intro. Who
- 0:44Speaker 2: are the two judges Judge Ross, Judge Karen, not Judge Mabelene.
- 0:48Speaker 1: No Judge Ross and Judge Karen.
- 0:50Speaker 2: But you know what, even a bad intro in the
- 0:52Speaker 2: gavel is still an intro in the gable.
- 0:55Speaker 3: That's better than a day on the golf on the
- 0:56Speaker 3: golf course. That's worth now.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Everybody, whether you're listening to us on the brable Jam
- 1:03Speaker 3: plus feed, thank you, or years later on the yoga
- 1:06Speaker 3: will Gavel on the podcast a platform.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Of your choice.
- 1:11Speaker 3: So much for listening, and leave us a review and
- 1:13Speaker 3: all that good stuff. Share it with a friend. I
- 1:14Speaker 3: think there's yeah, something something here for everybody.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We did get a couple of new reviews. Ok.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we got a one that says the best little
- 1:22Speaker 2: Treat little treat didn't get into our little treat. And
- 1:26Speaker 2: then we had one that said came for the Hallmark,
- 1:28Speaker 2: stayed for the gabbl Oh, please read us, read us
- 1:31Speaker 2: some reviews.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Read them. Go ahead and read the reviews of you.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We'll know. Wait, we'll know if you read them. Maybe
- 1:40Speaker 2: leave one to please let us know. So we had
- 1:42Speaker 2: to get to two hundred by next by what next
- 1:45Speaker 2: year is like seven, twenty twenty. No, this wasn't twenty
- 1:48Speaker 2: twenty seven. I think it was this time next year.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I think it was like summer of next year. I
- 1:52Speaker 2: don't just leave a review and just let us know
- 1:53Speaker 2: that you read them. I got boss Ross, hit me,
- 1:56Speaker 2: hit me. That's exactly right. Kara Smile is suing Jesse
- 2:01Speaker 2: Barbary for two hundred and twenty five dollars for the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Infant Lord and Savior Jesus.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Christ, Sir, enough, that's an expensive baby, Jesus.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It is what do you think going into this, do
- 2:13Speaker 3: you think she understands or overstands.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think she probably overstands, because that's what you think
- 2:20Speaker 1: he understanding of justices.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Understanding overstand She doesn't. But that's okay.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Was it foreign? It probably is a foreign concept to her.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I don't think biblical justice or the
- 2:32Speaker 2: way she understands it this foreign, but I think that
- 2:34Speaker 2: justice in the court room might be okay. So Kara's like, listen,
- 2:38Speaker 2: my Nativity scene was destroyed, boy, and mister Barbary's goats
- 2:42Speaker 2: are responsible. Mister Barbariae, old man overalls, he's seen something already.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Kara is young, blonde hair, needs to speak to a manager,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and she's like, they got out once before, and they
- 2:55Speaker 2: got one of the halos on my angels from a
- 2:57Speaker 2: different year, and that's how hey, you know, hey, you
- 3:01Speaker 2: know that's how I kneat the halos. Hello, good good uh.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Jesse Barberie is like, I have eight goats in my herd.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I've had him for about five years. And Ross is like,
- 3:12Speaker 2: so the goats have gotten out before and cause damage.
- 3:15Speaker 2: He said one time three years ago. Ross's they get
- 3:18Speaker 2: out at Christmas time, though apparently it's the Times.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Does he have any other animals and just goats goat farm?
- 3:24Speaker 1: He has a dog that herds the goats. Good boy.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Uh he Ross says, so I have a statement here
- 3:32Speaker 2: that says my goats don't escape. And mister Barbara says,
- 3:35Speaker 2: well they did three years ago. There was a hole
- 3:37Speaker 2: in the fence. I've replace fixed the fence. They have
- 3:40Speaker 2: bells on there's a dog. They don't leave. Literally when
- 3:44Speaker 2: they left that, I heard the bells.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Went over there.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I heard the Christmas that's right on Christmas Day in
- 3:50Speaker 2: the morning, they go over. They go over there. I
- 3:53Speaker 2: heard the bells. I immediately got up, went over. They
- 3:57Speaker 2: had got into one halo. It was no damage at all.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I got him back hen though, and then that's it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Kara's like, well, three, here's what you need to know,
- 4:03Speaker 2: Judge Dross. I put up an antivity scene every year
- 4:05Speaker 2: during the holidays, and I think it's important. Sure, and
- 4:09Speaker 2: the neighbors all visit. It's a tradition. I have spotlights
- 4:12Speaker 2: in the yard. I have a star in the second
- 4:13Speaker 2: story window. We see a picture of this, and we
- 4:16Speaker 2: don't we see a picture of the baby Jesus.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Okay, I was just wondering, like why the neighbors come
- 4:22Speaker 3: and visit.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a big deal to her. Okay,
- 4:27Speaker 2: this says, of course. The most important part baby Jesus.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And the reason that this baby Jesus is so important
- 4:33Speaker 2: is not because he died for her sends, but because
- 4:34Speaker 2: he looks like a real baby, which is so important
- 4:37Speaker 2: to me. That is what she says. He looks like
- 4:40Speaker 2: a real baby as opposed to fake base.
- 4:43Speaker 3: So is it like one of those like super realistic
- 4:45Speaker 3: baby dolls.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's a yeah, it looks more life size, and like, yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 2: it looks like.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You know, there's some people that you know take care of, Yes,
- 4:54Speaker 3: super realistic, you know what I'm talking about.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And so is that what we're yeah, yeah, because those
- 4:59Speaker 1: can be.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 2: The only thing she has in the courtroom is the foot.
- 5:02Speaker 2: She's holding a foot she's learned Jesus's foot, says.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Well, not anymore. And when you saw that foot, it
- 5:10Speaker 1: was me that Jesus Right now, do you think about it?
- 5:16Speaker 2: No, I just just now, and I want that on
- 5:19Speaker 2: the record. Didn't come up with earlier leave her reviews,
- 5:23Speaker 2: tell us you read them, so, uh, I will say.
- 5:29Speaker 2: The one thing I'll say is the baby Jesus actually
- 5:32Speaker 2: is is the skin color is brown. It's not white Jesus,
- 5:35Speaker 2: which is a big deal because if I if listening
- 5:37Speaker 2: to this woman.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Talk, I would assume she had white Jesus. That would
- 5:39Speaker 1: have shown assumption, and that's why we don't make a song. Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: so that's right.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Uh, she maybe has never even asked for a manager.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Maybe she actually is a really great tipper. I know
- 5:49Speaker 3: she's just saying she's going to talk about how you
- 5:51Speaker 3: haven't learned your lesson.
- 5:52Speaker 2: We're going to see you. Can you tell me at
- 5:53Speaker 2: the end? Okay, okay. Jesus walks and then hobbles at
- 5:56Speaker 2: this point.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But Jesus, So we see.
- 6:03Speaker 2: A picture of uh, mister Barbary's property, and she turns
- 6:09Speaker 2: this in. This evidence would lead you to believe that
- 6:12Speaker 2: he is right, not her. I don't know why she
- 6:14Speaker 2: turns it in. None of us do raw season. And
- 6:17Speaker 2: the property is like not anywhere near a house. It's
- 6:20Speaker 2: fenced in. It looks like it's its own thing. He's like,
- 6:23Speaker 2: why are you turning this in? And she's like, look
- 6:25Speaker 2: at the highlighted part in the corner. Well, right on
- 6:27Speaker 2: the outside of the fence is Jesus's foot. It's just there, right.
- 6:32Speaker 2: She has a picture of the foot outside of his property,
- 6:35Speaker 2: right by the goat. She's like, yes, fence, and we
- 6:38Speaker 2: didn't find the rest of it. All we all have
- 6:41Speaker 2: is a foot.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Never get out.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Okay, that's interesting. That's interesting that I never said that.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So can I tell you what this seems like? Yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 3: it seems like somebody was maybe maybe they broke Jesus.
- 6:52Speaker 3: They see the goats.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Quite a mystery because neither party is going to give here.
- 6:57Speaker 1: This is a movie.
- 6:58Speaker 2: It isn't, but it should be. The Jesus Coats Angel Studios.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So Jesse Barbary brings pictures showing his house and then
- 7:08Speaker 2: showing that there's an agricultural area in this neighborhood. So
- 7:11Speaker 2: there's residential houses and there's agricultural areas. There are three
- 7:14Speaker 2: goat farmers in the neighborhood. Oh my gosh, three goat
- 7:17Speaker 2: farmers in the neighborhood. Ross is like, where's the next
- 7:19Speaker 2: nearest one. He points to him that one is seven
- 7:22Speaker 2: houses down. Ross's house is technically across the street.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Not Ross's. Ross doesn't know. Ross doesn't live there. He wouldn't.
- 7:28Speaker 2: He overstands the Jesse Barbary's houses across the street. Jesse's
- 7:33Speaker 2: like he and so then Ross says, this is where
- 7:37Speaker 2: this is the first thing Ross has ever said that.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm like, is Ross on drugs. I don't understand what happened.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Okay here Ross not this, but his response, I just
- 7:47Speaker 2: want to paint the picture. Ross says, you're saying the
- 7:50Speaker 2: goats from way down there escaped, walked all the way
- 7:54Speaker 2: down to her house, chewed off Jesus's foot, dropped it
- 7:59Speaker 2: by the fence of your property, headed back home. That's
- 8:02Speaker 2: what you're saying. And Jesse Barber goes your honor. It's possible.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I just know my goats didn't get out. And then
- 8:09Speaker 2: Ross says, well, it's possible that the moon is made
- 8:12Speaker 2: of cheese, but it's not. Boy, So Ross says, it's
- 8:21Speaker 2: possible that the moon is made of cheese, but it's not.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I think what's happened here is he recalled an old
- 8:29Speaker 3: nursery rhyme, yes, and somehow decided.
- 8:35Speaker 1: To work that in here. It's but I want to
- 8:38Speaker 1: be very clear.
- 8:39Speaker 2: If you think that we've never been to the moon,
- 8:42Speaker 2: sure you still would not think it's possible it's made
- 8:45Speaker 2: of Swiss cheese.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You can say everybody you know.
- 8:48Speaker 2: But Ross using this as an example, it's a bad example.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And literally it could he maybe maybe one tops, but
- 8:57Speaker 2: he should say it's probably it's possible that the moon
- 8:59Speaker 2: is to cheese, but it's we almost know for certain
- 9:02Speaker 2: it's not, is what he should say. He says, it's
- 9:05Speaker 2: possible to me has made of cheese, but it's not.
- 9:08Speaker 2: So it is not impossible. So it's not impossible.
- 9:11Speaker 1: What do you do?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I will say, though, it is possible that goats had
- 9:15Speaker 3: nothing to do with this, correct, Yeah, yes, I think
- 9:18Speaker 3: it is more likely that goats had nothing to do
- 9:20Speaker 3: with it than the goat from seven houses down came
- 9:23Speaker 3: down and was framing.
- 9:24Speaker 1: The other coast. So here we go.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Kara says, I didn't want to accuse Jesse. Immediately I
- 9:28Speaker 2: knew Jesus was gone. And you know what, so often
- 9:31Speaker 2: in Christmas we're missing Jesus. Amen, you still feel good
- 9:35Speaker 2: about it. I still feel good about it. So often
- 9:37Speaker 2: in Christmas we're missing Jesus, amen, And here we're literally
- 9:40Speaker 2: missing Jesus. And I just thought i'd turn the other
- 9:43Speaker 2: cheek and I put up a little sign that said
- 9:46Speaker 2: please return baby, Jesus outside of the Nativity, you.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Have three days.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And then I also I also put come on, I
- 9:53Speaker 2: also it was good, please return baby Jesus. Then I
- 9:56Speaker 2: also put it you're ready for this? Where else do
- 9:58Speaker 2: you think she put u an advertisement?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Oh man? Where Nope? In our church bulletin. Ah, I
- 10:08Speaker 1: love that.
- 10:08Speaker 3: In our church bulletin, I post about a lot of
- 10:12Speaker 3: people don't do the bulletins anymore, but you can get
- 10:13Speaker 3: some free stuff.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Free stuff, you know where to go. Uh.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And then lastly she goes and I even like, I
- 10:19Speaker 2: didn't want to say it, but there appeared to be
- 10:21Speaker 2: goat droppings in the manger. So I went to talk
- 10:25Speaker 2: to Jesse across the street, and that's when I saw
- 10:29Speaker 2: Jesus's foot by his proper. Now this would imply, and
- 10:33Speaker 2: we may need to bleep this, but the goats went
- 10:36Speaker 2: up you want to took baby Jesus and Okayer.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Right in the manger.
- 10:44Speaker 2: This implies that these goats were vindictive, that not only
- 10:47Speaker 2: did they take baby Jesus, but they had a vendetta
- 10:50Speaker 2: out for baby Jesus and left droppings in the main.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I don't know if it necessarily implies that. It implies
- 10:56Speaker 3: at the very least that the goats felt comfortable.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And this is a this is home. Yeah, this is home.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I'll do some out here, you know what I mean.
- 11:05Speaker 2: So then Jesse's like, well, she did come to talk
- 11:07Speaker 2: to me about my goats, and I explained to her, look,
- 11:10Speaker 2: last night, my goats didn't get out. They didn't get out.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Didn't happen. And then Kara's like, so I put a
- 11:16Speaker 2: sign up, nobody came forward. And then, considering his goats
- 11:18Speaker 2: had gotten out beforehand, it just seemed too likely. And
- 11:21Speaker 2: the goat droppings, it seemed too likely that they were
- 11:23Speaker 2: the suspect. The boot, the foot was right, Jesus foot
- 11:25Speaker 2: was right inside the fence. I just there are too
- 11:28Speaker 2: many things here. Yeah, you must have quit.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And I just had.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I had to sue him at that point, I had
- 11:36Speaker 2: to see him. Jesse's like, listen, I got up that morning,
- 11:39Speaker 2: My goats were in. The fence was closed, no holes
- 11:42Speaker 2: in the fence. Hard to believe that my goats could
- 11:44Speaker 2: take off their own bells. Chloroform the dog, Sadie, get
- 11:48Speaker 2: through the fence, take baby Jesus, return back, drop a
- 11:51Speaker 2: foot off at the gate, get in close it. Wake
- 11:55Speaker 2: up the dog put the bells back on. Now.
- 11:57Speaker 1: He's like, look, this is crazy.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's not me. And Ross is like, was saydie there
- 12:03Speaker 2: three years ago? And he goes, yeah, she was. But
- 12:06Speaker 2: remember there was a hole in the fence. I heard
- 12:09Speaker 2: the bells. I immediately went out there and the damage
- 12:13Speaker 2: was so little it was to some tensil on a
- 12:15Speaker 2: halo of an angel. She didn't even ask me for compensation.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I got him back in the yard really quick. I
- 12:20Speaker 2: fixed the fence that day. Hasn't been broken since. Kara's like, listen,
- 12:25Speaker 2: I turned the other cheek here. She's big on that phrase.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I turned the other cheek here. But this is about justice,
- 12:30Speaker 2: and not for me, but for all the families that
- 12:33Speaker 2: come to see the Nativity every year. Judge Ross ready
- 12:36Speaker 2: to rule.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Oh boy, listen.
- 12:39Speaker 3: At the end of the day, I think the most
- 12:42Speaker 3: likely do we get a picture of the droppings and
- 12:46Speaker 3: the manger?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Nope?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the most likely thing that happened is
- 12:50Speaker 3: some kids were up to no good started making trouble
- 12:52Speaker 3: in the neighborhood. They said it'd be funny to take Jesus.
- 12:55Speaker 3: We should take Jesus. This is a very life like Jesus.
- 12:57Speaker 3: We should take because I don't know if you know this,
- 12:59Speaker 3: people still Christmas degressions. I'm still looking for that person
- 13:02Speaker 3: that took my rooto off but clipped the clip the cord.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I didn't do it because I would never clip the cord.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But that's it's so wide that you don't care. You're
- 13:12Speaker 2: not taking it to put it in your yard. You're
- 13:15Speaker 2: taking it, you're cutting it, you're making it uses.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Uh. Some people do that.
- 13:20Speaker 3: And the world we're living in and we need Jesus,
- 13:23Speaker 3: and maybe they needed Jesus and so they took it.
- 13:26Speaker 3: I think the most likely thing is some kids were
- 13:27Speaker 3: up to no good, took Jesus, make trouble in the neighborhood,
- 13:31Speaker 3: saw the goats, and said, oh, we know what we
- 13:34Speaker 3: can do. Now, let's cost some more trouble, took the
- 13:37Speaker 3: foot off, laid it by the goat fences in the manger.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I don't know about the droppings. I I just at
- 13:45Speaker 3: the I I find him to be a credible, very incredible,
- 13:51Speaker 3: and I if the door was closed, there's no way
- 13:54Speaker 3: they could have gotten out.
- 13:56Speaker 1: They could have gotten out. So I'm not giving her
- 13:58Speaker 1: any money.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I'm saying, you not provide enough proof that these goats
- 14:03Speaker 3: did it, and so I'm sorry.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, not getting any money.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Ross is gonna go a little Judge Geno on you.
- 14:09Speaker 2: He's like, hey, listen, when it comes to small claims court,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's not about one hundred certainty. It's not about a
- 14:16Speaker 2: reasonable doubt. That's criminal court. In civil cases or in
- 14:20Speaker 2: small claims court there is. It's about a preponderance of evidence.
- 14:24Speaker 2: If I feel like the evidence tilts the scale in
- 14:28Speaker 2: your favor, no evidence, then I should rule in your
- 14:31Speaker 2: favorite any evidence. The goats have gotten out before, there
- 14:35Speaker 2: were goat droppings in the manger, there was a foot
- 14:38Speaker 2: on your property. The gavel falls in favor of the plaintiffs.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I couldn't. I was so mad.
- 14:45Speaker 2: It's wrong, there's no pro So mad this goat farmer, Like,
- 14:51Speaker 2: why would he lie about this?
- 14:52Speaker 1: It's two hundred dollars, She says.
- 14:55Speaker 3: There's goat droppings in the pictures. He says, they didn't
- 14:59Speaker 3: get out, and there's.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Their goat farms in the neighborhood. Awful, Ross overstood that one.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Awful.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I don't want a case of a fun case, a
- 15:09Speaker 2: fun case till the ending.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ridiculous.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we did, everybody, Congratulations. Read the reviews. Leave a review.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You got to go, and we'll be back next time
- 15:17Speaker 1: on another one and tell.
- 15:18Speaker 2: That you've got to go. You've not done your case yet.
- 15:21Speaker 2: You took fifteen minutes. You've got to go. All rise
- 15:26Speaker 2: for Brandon's case for today. Yeah, I looked out us
- 15:29Speaker 2: fifteen minutes. I said, we're done here, Judge Karen, all right,
- 15:36Speaker 2: read those reviews. This is unhinged. We're doing the best.
- 15:40Speaker 2: We tell what we have.
- 15:42Speaker 1: There are all sunshine, rainbows. People. Sometimes we f it.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Up, Judge Karen. Avan'm miller is suing Connie Range for
- 15:53Speaker 3: twelve hundred.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And seventy five dollars.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Okay, Avan Connie met each other in college higher education.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I've already ordered, so don't worry about it. Okay.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Their dorms they were close by, and so they met
- 16:06Speaker 3: each other. They became very close friends. They would consider
- 16:08Speaker 3: each other best friends in fact. So it's a shame
- 16:10Speaker 3: that we're here today. It is Ava had the idea
- 16:14Speaker 3: to join a sorority. Solreaty. Ava's very passionate about this.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Her mom was in a sorority and she wants to
- 16:22Speaker 3: do that as well. Connie claims that Avo's so passionate
- 16:24Speaker 3: about joining one of these sororities, and she convinced Connie
- 16:28Speaker 3: to join with her. But Connie didn't quite share Ava's
- 16:31Speaker 3: passion for sorority. In fact, Connie felt a bit of
- 16:35Speaker 3: a disconnect with the sorority. She didn't quite feel like
- 16:38Speaker 3: she belonged there, and she felt like it was it
- 16:41Speaker 3: was childish. Okay, so you might be wondering yourself, well,
- 16:45Speaker 3: how long could she have possibly stuck around?
- 16:47Speaker 1: She stuck around three years.
- 16:48Speaker 3: She was a part of the sorority for three ye yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 3: so childish, Ava says, it was not childish at all.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You find a sisterhood of women who love each other
- 16:56Speaker 3: in pants, support each other, share pants, and oftentimes after
- 17:01Speaker 3: college it leads to business opportunities because help your sister out,
- 17:06Speaker 3: You help your sister out.
- 17:08Speaker 1: So it's great, Ava says.
- 17:10Speaker 3: We lived in the house together and then we would
- 17:12Speaker 3: do an events like a like a nice thing for
- 17:15Speaker 3: the community. Once a month, I got like a bake sale.
- 17:19Speaker 3: You go somewhere for the community, for the community. So
- 17:22Speaker 3: three years in three years in Connie, after three years
- 17:26Speaker 3: of just white knuckling, it tells Ava, okay that she
- 17:31Speaker 3: doesn't want to be here. Anymore, and Karen's like, well,
- 17:35Speaker 3: three years, why did you stick around so long? And
- 17:37Speaker 3: Connie is like, I knew after my first year that
- 17:39Speaker 3: it wasn't for me, but Ava was so passionate, I
- 17:42Speaker 3: felt obligated to stick around. And she's a controlling person,
- 17:47Speaker 3: and I didn't really feel like I had a choice.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Ava said she had.
- 17:51Speaker 3: A great time, she created great memories, and Karen's like, well,
- 17:54Speaker 3: that's not what she's saying. She's saying that she didn't
- 17:56Speaker 3: have a great time, it didn't create good memories.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Connie tells Ave.
- 17:59Speaker 3: At the beginning of the third year that she doesn't
- 18:02Speaker 3: want to do it anymore, but she sticks around for
- 18:04Speaker 3: that year, and Eva claims the reason why she gave
- 18:08Speaker 3: for not wanting to uh for this being her last
- 18:11Speaker 3: year was financial. She didn't have the money to pay
- 18:16Speaker 3: for the next year for year four. So Connie tells
- 18:20Speaker 3: Judge Karen that it was less financial in reality, and
- 18:24Speaker 3: more that she just didn't want to do.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Anything I want to do anymore. And Karen's like, why
- 18:26Speaker 1: don't you just tell her?
- 18:27Speaker 3: Just tell her. Connie is like, oh, she's my best friend.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I didn't want to hurt her. She cares so much
- 18:32Speaker 3: about the sorority. And I thought if I say it's
- 18:34Speaker 3: a money thing, she'd just be like, okay, I understand.
- 18:37Speaker 3: But instead she convinced me to stay and that she
- 18:41Speaker 3: would pay. This is a classic.
- 18:43Speaker 2: When people are non confrontational, this is the stuff they
- 18:45Speaker 2: get into, you know what I mean, Like, I get it,
- 18:47Speaker 2: you don't want to be confrontational with your buddy or
- 18:49Speaker 2: your friend, and hard conversations are called hard conversations for
- 18:52Speaker 2: a reason. But you get into this mess when you're like,
- 18:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna spare him the feelings and go I can't
- 18:58Speaker 2: afford it. Then they're gonna cough Upnnie. That could have
- 19:00Speaker 2: saved for something you didn't want.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That's right.
- 19:03Speaker 3: So she ends up staying, and Ava says she offers
- 19:09Speaker 3: to pay Connie, and Connie says, I can't promise you.
- 19:15Speaker 1: This is what she says.
- 19:16Speaker 3: She claims that she's told her I can't promise you
- 19:18Speaker 3: that I'll pay you back, but if you really want
- 19:20Speaker 3: me to stay, I'll stay.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Ava says, we have a promisory note. Oh no, oh, no,
- 19:29Speaker 1: we have that promisory note. Connie did promise.
- 19:33Speaker 3: It was written five days before the check was written.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Connie says, on that note, it doesn't put a deadline
- 19:40Speaker 3: for payback. So it is my understanding that if I
- 19:43Speaker 3: couldn't pay back, I didn't have to pay back.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And I was originally gonna pay her back.
- 19:48Speaker 2: There was a line basically, there's a line in there
- 19:51Speaker 2: that says what again, No.
- 19:52Speaker 1: No, no, there's just nothing about a deadline.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Okay, that's just that, And so it was her understanding
- 19:59Speaker 3: since there was no deadline, that that meant that she
- 20:01Speaker 3: didn't have to pay it if she couldn't pay it.
- 20:04Speaker 3: She says, I originally was planning on paying her back,
- 20:07Speaker 3: but she started bringing up all these issues, threatening that
- 20:10Speaker 3: interest if I don't start paying. She's always trying to
- 20:14Speaker 3: control me. She's always trying to control me.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Dano.
- 20:17Speaker 3: And it was too much, and I have paid some.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Avias says, she's given me twenty dollars. Connie says, I've
- 20:25Speaker 3: given her twenty dollars twice. Yeah, double that, and Karen
- 20:30Speaker 3: is ready to rule.
- 20:32Speaker 2: You gotta give her the money. It was a promisory note.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I know that there's no deadline on it, but a
- 20:36Speaker 2: promisory note usually is the trump card here, and I
- 20:41Speaker 2: think you've got to honor that. And even though you
- 20:43Speaker 2: didn't want to be in the sorority. You should have
- 20:44Speaker 2: had a tough conversation and saved yourself some.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Cash, Karen says Connie.
- 20:48Speaker 3: For somebody who claims that they are being controlled, you
- 20:51Speaker 3: do a pretty good job of not being controlled.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Look getting her money back. Look at it.
- 20:56Speaker 3: I don't buy it. I think you were just afraid
- 20:59Speaker 3: to tell your friend truth. You got to pay her
- 21:02Speaker 3: the full amount minus forty dollars forty bones, so twelve
- 21:05Speaker 3: hundred and thirty five dollars.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Yes, got to There's nothing you can do about it.
