- Dana: My sister-in-law texted me at 10 on Saturday night. Shopping cart open on her phone, one jar of glitter to pick, full color crisis. Her exact words: "which color do people actually buy?" And while she froze, her daughter grabbed the phone and voted pink. Margaux: Welcome to The Monégasque Table. That text is today's Ask the Table question: what is the most popular edible glitter color? Dana: And she wants a real answer, not "they're all lovely." There are 21 shades in this drink-glitter line alone, plus 13 luster dust colors. That's not a choice. That's a paint store. Margaux: So here's the answer up front, because it's honestly three answers. By search demand — at least by the keyword estimates we can see — pink is the most-searched color. By what lands in carts together, gold is the backbone, because gold and silver are the pairing that never goes out of season. And our most popular celebration shade is neither one. It's iridescent. Which answer your sister-in-law needs depends on what she's making. Dana: Pink? I'd have put money on gold. Margaux: Most people would. But per one third-party keyword tool's estimates, searches run about 1,000 a month for pink edible glitter, 880 for gold, roughly 720 each for green and red, and 590 for black. Pink owns the search bar — birthday cakes, princess parties, baby showers. The daughter's vote is the country's vote. Dana: Okay, hold on. Searching isn't buying. I've searched "easy backyard chicken coop" maybe 40 times. I own zero chickens. If pink wins the search bar, does pink actually win the cart? Margaux: (laughs) No — and that's the round you win. Search measures curiosity. The cart measures commitment. And in our own carts, the story flips: the most common add-on to a silver jar is gold, and the most common add-on to gold is silver — every quarter of the year, in the drinks line and the cakes line both. The classic metallics duo. Silver doesn't even crack that search ranking, and yet it's glued to gold in cart after cart. Dana: So the real answer is gold, and pink is a mirage? Margaux: Except for the twist. Our most popular celebration shade isn't pink or gold. It's one called Iridescent Butterfly. It's the jar first-timers pick, usually all by itself — and it's the shade that shows up beside nearly every other color in the line. Dana: Why would "no color" beat every actual color? Margaux: Because it refuses to clash. An iridescent flake doesn't bring its own color to the party — it picks up whatever's underneath and throws it back. Pink lemonade, a white cake, a blue cocktail. Same jar, different magic. Swirl the glass and you get that soap-bubble shimmer instead of one flat color. When you don't know what you'll decorate next, it's the jar that's never wrong. Dana: And I'm guessing the calendar has opinions too. Margaux: Loud ones. Green sleeps all summer, then surges into December, when red and green become each other's top add-on — the Christmas duo. Orange gets one big month a year and brings friends: purple, black, and green, the Halloween palette. "Most popular" isn't one chart. It's a calendar page. Dana: Alright, honest segment. Who should ignore the popularity charts completely? Margaux: Anyone with a theme. If the baby shower is sage and cream, buy sage and cream — a popularity chart can't see your party. And if the drink you're serving is dark — cola, coffee, a deep red punch — reviewers across this category say it plainly: glitter works best with clear drinks. In a dark glass, the most popular color on earth is invisible. Dana: So: theme first, occasion second, popularity chart last. And pink is what everyone's typing while gold and the shimmery one keep landing in the carts. Margaux: That's the whole episode in one text message. And if she wants the crowd's default, the MONÉGASQUE Iconic Gold 10 gram drink glitter is on Amazon — gold, in the flake style built for the glass, and the listing sits at 4.6 stars across 6,669 Amazon ratings. Dana: Next week's question is the one I get in a worried whisper at every party: is there plastic in edible glitter? Because the craft-store stuff IS plastic, and the two look identical in the jar. Margaux: The question every label should have to answer. That's next time. This show is made with AI-crafted hosts and human-checked facts. See you at the table.
