- 0:01There are a number of examples that lead to the conclusion that
- 0:04it is not medicine alone that cures the patient.
- 0:08A young man reported his own experience.
- 0:11He was visiting India in the early 1970s and was afflicted by
- 0:16a severe case of amoebic dysentery while there, to the
- 0:20point that he was in extreme pain, bleeding and undergoing
- 0:24constant bowel disruption. He asked some people where he
- 0:28was staying, how he should deal with the situation and they
- 0:32recommended a homeopathic doctor nearby.
- 0:35They made it clear that taking allopathic drugs or seeing an
- 0:40allopathic physician practicing western medicine would not be as
- 0:44successful for him. His only prior had experience
- 0:48had been with allopathic medicine and he had to that
- 0:51point in time never encountered homeopathy.
- 0:56Nevertheless, he went to the homeopathic physician who
- 1:00started by asking him a number of questions seemingly
- 1:03irrelevant, such as whether he preferred hot or cold showers
- 1:07generally. After responding to the
- 1:10questions, the physician gave him some pellets to take, which
- 1:14consisted of sugar infused with the homeopathic remedy diluted
- 1:19based on homeopathic principles to the point that no active
- 1:24substance could be found if analyzed.
- 1:27The doctor advised him to take a pellet and let it dissolve under
- 1:30his tongue, and with that, he dismissed the individual with
- 1:34the promising statement that by the time he got back to his
- 1:38guest house 15 minutes away by rickshaw, the bowel movements
- 1:43would come to a halt. He further advised that it would
- 1:46take some time for the internal damage to heal, but the worst
- 1:50was now over and the patient would be on the mend.
- 1:54The doctor's certainty in the matter influenced the young man
- 1:58and he followed the directions. Lo and behold, within the
- 2:03designated 15 minutes, in fact, the bowel movements had stopped
- 2:08and he began his recovery from that point.
- 2:12Homeopathy is a controversial healing modality in the West.
- 2:17The USFDA does not consider it to be real, but as this young
- 2:22person found out and as many others have testified, it works.
- 2:28The placebo effect is another instance where we can eliminate
- 2:31the medicine as the curative agent.
- 2:34As previously noted, some 30% of test subjects who received a
- 2:39placebo recover without the actual medicine, and an unknown
- 2:43number of those who received the medicine were aided by the
- 2:48mental will and faith in the medicine, not simply by the
- 2:52chemical biological action of the medicine itself.
- 2:56Srioro Bindo notes quote It is not the medicine that cures so
- 3:02much as the patient's faith in the doctor and the medicine.
- 3:07Both are a clumsy substitute for the natural faith in one's own
- 3:11self power, which they have themselves destroyed.
