- 0:00Speaker 1: Did you know that most vitamin D three supplements come
- 0:03Speaker 1: from sheep's wool. I'm Cat, founder of Ritual. We're making
- 0:07Speaker 1: traceability the new standard for the supplement industry. When I
- 0:10Speaker 1: was pregnant, I couldn't find a multi vitamin I could trust,
- 0:13Speaker 1: so created my own. Ours is made traceable, third party
- 0:17Speaker 1: tested and clean labeled projects certified. Oh Hanner vitamin D
- 0:21Speaker 1: three It comes from sustainably harvested lichen from England, not sheep.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Trace for yourself with twenty five percent off at ritual
- 0:28Speaker 1: dot com slash podcast. Have you heard about the twenty
- 0:32Speaker 1: eighteen study that showed half of prenatal vitamins tested had
- 0:36Speaker 1: unacceptable levels of heavy metals? No, well, now you have.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm Cat, mother of three and founder of Ritual, the
- 0:44Speaker 1: company making traceability the new standard in the supplement industry.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I remember staring at my prenial vitamins and finding all
- 0:51Speaker 1: these things. I was trying to avoid high amounts of
- 0:54Speaker 1: heavy metals, synthetic colorants, and unnecessary ingredients. So at four
- 0:59Speaker 1: months pregure, I quit my job and started Ritual because
- 1:02Speaker 1: I believe that all women deserve to know what they're
- 1:05Speaker 1: putting in their bodies and why I'm so proud of
- 1:08Speaker 1: our pre Neital Vitamin. The ingredients are one hundred percent traceable.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It's third party tested for microbes and heavy metals, and
- 1:14Speaker 1: recently received the Purity Award from the Clean Label Project.
- 1:18Speaker 1: You see, we trace like a mother, because let's be honest,
- 1:21Speaker 1: no one cares quite like a mother. But don't just
- 1:24Speaker 1: take my word for it. Trace for yourself with twenty
- 1:26Speaker 1: five percent off at ritual dot com slash pre Neal.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta work. You gotta work, bry Shine. It's
- 1:43Speaker 2: mine gotta show everybody is my sign. You gotta work,
- 1:47Speaker 2: bry Shine.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Love the mind who saw the dog dayne don't tell
- 1:51Speaker 3: you've gotta work.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee, where sports, culture

- 2:16Speaker 5: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen to Let's Talk with Curl Lee
- 2:19Speaker 5: and uh my co host Hollis Lewis and Lisa.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Odie are here and hello, Hello, and we have a very.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Very interesting conversation that we've had since we actually got
- 2:33Speaker 5: into the studio. When we got into the building, we've
- 2:36Speaker 5: been we've been kind of talking a little bit about.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Injunctions.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Well the yeah, the word of today.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Yeah, injunctions have been had been for sure, that's the subject.
- 2:52Speaker 3: The s SAC.
- 2:55Speaker 5: And football programs around the around the state. It seems
- 3:01Speaker 5: to me, Hollis, and you're our expert on this, like, wow,
- 3:05Speaker 5: I want to say, done a little research, I'm going
- 3:08Speaker 5: to make the case Hollis that you know, one of
- 3:12Speaker 5: the things that I've heard someone say, you know, having
- 3:17Speaker 5: the best interest of the athletes in mind or trying
- 3:20Speaker 5: to focus on that personally, I don't see that being
- 3:25Speaker 5: the case. But I'll come back to that as you
- 3:28Speaker 5: kind of enlighten us a little bit, give us a
- 3:31Speaker 5: little bit of background to where we're at. And I
- 3:32Speaker 5: want to start from the beginning because obviously we're going
- 3:34Speaker 5: to talk about the playoff, postponement and delays and Supreme
- 3:37Speaker 5: Court and different things of that nature. But I feel
- 3:39Speaker 5: like we have to set a tone because again, this
- 3:41Speaker 5: isn't like a single event. This spawned from the very beginning,
- 3:46Speaker 5: and to me, if we look at it, it's really
- 3:48Speaker 5: no surprise where we're at now, right because I think
- 3:51Speaker 5: earlier this year, maybe even sometime last year, they were
- 3:55Speaker 5: in discussions about having a quada, which is a four quad,
- 3:59Speaker 5: a single a double a system in West Virginia for football.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Now they've done this with basketball for the last couple
- 4:05Speaker 5: of years. But I think what we have to remember
- 4:08Speaker 5: about basketball is that there's more schools playing basketball and
- 4:11Speaker 5: less players. So far as that I could see that
- 4:14Speaker 5: and it probably wouldn't be as big a problem because
- 4:16Speaker 5: it would create more competitive balance, which that was the
- 4:20Speaker 5: point of this. But I think from what we're seeing
- 4:23Speaker 5: now is that that it's almost done the opposite. Absolutely,
- 4:27Speaker 5: it's done the opposite of creating competitive balance. It at
- 4:31Speaker 5: least we've we've talked several times about scores. Yes, and
- 4:37Speaker 5: there's no way I would have ever thought playing high
- 4:41Speaker 5: school football that I would be playing on a team
- 4:43Speaker 5: that's gonna score eighty points or is gonna get eighty
- 4:46Speaker 5: points scored on them.
- 4:48Speaker 3: That just was never going to happen.
- 4:51Speaker 5: And I'm and I'll even go even further, I'm not
- 4:54Speaker 5: sure that the talent that we were gonna go against
- 4:58Speaker 5: would not be better than what.
- 5:00Speaker 3: It is now.
- 5:01Speaker 7: Yeah, right right, And I think our assumption when we
- 5:04Speaker 7: saw these scores, at least now I'm educated, thank you
- 5:07Speaker 7: Hollis on how the point system works for the playoff.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Rankings, and we'll get into details.
- 5:12Speaker 7: Yes, yes, yes, but I think I think at the time,
- 5:15Speaker 7: whenever we were under the assumption you and I Carl
- 5:18Speaker 7: that you got points for the playoffs rankings if you
- 5:23Speaker 7: scored a certain amount in your actual play of a game, right,
- 5:27Speaker 7: And so we thought, Okay, there's a reason why these
- 5:30Speaker 7: these teams are kicking on side kicks and throwing passes
- 5:34Speaker 7: in the in the fourth quarter while they're rep forty
- 5:36Speaker 7: to fifty points. So we kind of gave some grace
- 5:39Speaker 7: to those teams that were behaving that way, thinking, Okay,
- 5:42Speaker 7: they're doing it for a reason. They're doing it to
- 5:44Speaker 7: gain points for the playoffs. And then we come across
- 5:48Speaker 7: the system and how it works, and we see nothing
- 5:50Speaker 7: of the sort as far as you know, how many
- 5:54Speaker 7: points you score in a game to be able to
- 5:57Speaker 7: you know, connect it to your your ranking for the playoff.
- 6:00Speaker 7: So we're kind of just I'm disappointed in that because
- 6:04Speaker 7: I felt like there was a reason why some of
- 6:06Speaker 7: these teams were doing the things that they were doing
- 6:09Speaker 7: on the field, as far as you know in play
- 6:12Speaker 7: against other teams, going up forty to fifty points was
- 6:15Speaker 7: because of the playoff rankings. And now that you see
- 6:18Speaker 7: that there really wasn't a legitimate, a legitimate reason to
- 6:22Speaker 7: be doing those those types of things, I'm kind of
- 6:26Speaker 7: disappointed in that, right And.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Here's the thing. Let me let me let me say this.
- 6:31Speaker 5: We're going to talk about the points, but far as
- 6:33Speaker 5: why they went to four A, because when we look
- 6:37Speaker 5: at for a, you have one point five million people
- 6:41Speaker 5: in West Virginia. West Virginia is losing five thousand students
- 6:46Speaker 5: per year. There was absolutely no justification in addition to
- 6:50Speaker 5: what you just said as far as competitive balance, which
- 6:53Speaker 5: they haven't created, no, not at all. And we'll talk
- 6:56Speaker 5: about the conference and that was a mess up to
- 6:59Speaker 5: far as higher relation to what's going on now. But
- 7:01Speaker 5: if we're losing five thousand students per year, we have
- 7:05Speaker 5: one point five one point six million people in the state,
- 7:07Speaker 5: and we're losing our total population. There was no reason
- 7:11Speaker 5: West Virginia is not big enough to have a four
- 7:14Speaker 5: class system.
- 7:15Speaker 6: We're just not right.
- 7:17Speaker 5: So so all the justifications that they gave originally, it
- 7:20Speaker 5: just didn't It doesn't make sense.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And don't you think though, for the average parent of
- 7:28Speaker 3: a kid who plays.
- 7:31Speaker 5: A high school fan of the sport, an adult speaking
- 7:35Speaker 5: of the adults, not necessarily the kids.
- 7:39Speaker 3: They they are not educated on any of this.
- 7:43Speaker 5: And so in outfront, this might have looked good, Oh
- 7:49Speaker 5: my teams are we're four A.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It does look good. It's the only thing.
- 7:55Speaker 5: That's the only thing, because once you get to the numbers,
- 7:58Speaker 5: the numbers don't just to fight us doing this in
- 8:01Speaker 5: as sport like football again, basketball, baseball, those are different sports.
- 8:05Speaker 5: You have less players, it's different. So I could see
- 8:08Speaker 5: the competitive balance being pergnent within those sports. But when
- 8:13Speaker 5: you're talking about a football we got to at least
- 8:15Speaker 5: have thirty to forty kids. Like I said, we're consolidating
- 8:18Speaker 5: schools every day. Every day we're here about consolidations from
- 8:22Speaker 5: because because of low numbers. So like you're doing this
- 8:27Speaker 5: off the top, didn't make sense.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah, you're you.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You're trying to grow the football level while the student
- 8:35Speaker 5: level is dropped. And the thing is, you can't even
- 8:38Speaker 5: say that because you're not growing anything. All you're doing
- 8:40Speaker 5: is just you're you're just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
- 8:43Speaker 5: You're moving the puzzle pieces around.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Right. Well, you could and couldn't you listen to that point?
- 8:48Speaker 5: I think as soon as four A came out and
- 8:52Speaker 5: everybody was all these teams were in four A. What
- 8:54Speaker 5: was the first thing that happened. We're moving back down
- 8:57Speaker 5: to triple A or we're moving from triple to double.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Right, right, And that's the next point.
- 9:01Speaker 5: The next point is that the next thing that happened
- 9:03Speaker 5: in August right in the beginning of the season, is
- 9:06Speaker 5: that you had eleven schools. You had eleven schools filing
- 9:11Speaker 5: junctions word of today injunctions to get back to the
- 9:15Speaker 5: lower conference, right. And the justifications was that, again, how
- 9:20Speaker 5: they determined the classification level it was this is more
- 9:24Speaker 5: confused in the geometry. They did like eighty percent with enrollment,
- 9:27Speaker 5: and they split the last twenty percent between your actual
- 9:30Speaker 5: location and the socioeconomic status of the area in which
- 9:34Speaker 5: your school was placed in whether it was urban city rule,
- 9:37Speaker 5: da da da da, which is convoluted, complicated and really
- 9:41Speaker 5: didn't necessarily make sense.
- 9:42Speaker 6: So who came up with this?
- 9:44Speaker 7: Because I mean that the triple AAA single A, that
- 9:47Speaker 7: that alignment so just for years. In fact, it served
- 9:51Speaker 7: us back when I was in school and beyond that,
- 9:55Speaker 7: and we had more population then. So where in the
- 9:59Speaker 7: world did we find a reason to even look at
- 10:02Speaker 7: this and start this this whole movement to do quality?
- 10:05Speaker 5: And that's what And that's kind of the point. So
- 10:08Speaker 5: we looking at the very beginning of this, not only
- 10:11Speaker 5: is there not a point to do it, but then
- 10:13Speaker 5: when you actually the implementation of it didn't make sense.
- 10:18Speaker 5: So from so so fact to one, why did you
- 10:22Speaker 5: do it? It really didn't need to happen, right, And
- 10:24Speaker 5: and the reason in which you stated it created the
- 10:28Speaker 5: opposite effect. And then the implementation of it when you
- 10:32Speaker 5: go to these factors as far as developing who's going
- 10:35Speaker 5: to be in what's classification?
- 10:37Speaker 3: That doesn't make sense, is it?
- 10:43Speaker 5: And and I and I was as I was reading
- 10:45Speaker 5: up on this, if someone makes the comment that that
- 10:50Speaker 5: they're that we're looking out for the betterment of the athlete,
- 10:55Speaker 5: I buy I buy that in theory, but I think
- 11:00Speaker 5: the system in what you're creating isn't for the kids.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It's for you.
- 11:08Speaker 5: As a as a because if we have quada. Oh gosh,
- 11:11Speaker 5: West Virginia's got quada. We've been triple A for as
- 11:15Speaker 5: long as we've been and it has served us well. Yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 5: and whether and the moment we go quada, all of
- 11:24Speaker 5: a sudden.
- 11:24Speaker 6: We don't have enough teams to have a quad A well?
- 11:27Speaker 3: And when the time? When the last time you saw
- 11:30Speaker 3: eighty points? But in a high school game?
- 11:32Speaker 5: But I think, I mean, that's that's becoming a little
- 11:35Speaker 5: bit more common with the with the pace in which
- 11:37Speaker 5: team scored, So I don't I'm not necessarily hung up
- 11:40Speaker 5: on that. The thing is is that what I'm saying
- 11:42Speaker 5: is that if you're going to create a for a
- 11:46Speaker 5: system to a singular system. Again, I did the average,
- 11:49Speaker 5: and it's about I think there's one hundred and fifteen
- 11:51Speaker 5: hundred and sixteen teams, so you can have about twenty
- 11:54Speaker 5: eight teams per conference. But if you're going to do that,
- 11:58Speaker 5: the implementation has to be tight so that way you
- 12:01Speaker 5: don't have these eleven injunctions and now you throw the.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Numbers off.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Okay, So have you heard about the twenty eighteen study
- 12:12Speaker 1: that showed half of pre netal vitamins tested had unacceptable
- 12:16Speaker 1: levels of heavy metals?
- 12:17Speaker 6: No, Well, now you have.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'm Kat, mother of three and founder of Ritual, the
- 12:23Speaker 1: company making traceability the new standard in the supplement industry.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I remember staring at my pre Neal vitamins and finding
- 12:30Speaker 1: all these things. I was trying to avoid high amounts
- 12:33Speaker 1: of heavy metals, synthetic colorants, and unnecessary ingredients. So at
- 12:38Speaker 1: four months pregnant, I quit my job and started Ritual
- 12:41Speaker 1: because I believe that all women deserve to know what
- 12:43Speaker 1: they're putting in their bodies. And why I'm so proud
- 12:46Speaker 1: of our pre Neal vitamins. The ingredients are one hundred
- 12:49Speaker 1: percent traceable. It's third party tested for microbes and heavy metals,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and recently received the Purity Award from the Clean Label Project.
- 12:57Speaker 1: You see, we trace like a mother, because let's be on,
- 13:00Speaker 1: no one cares quite like a mother. But don't just
- 13:03Speaker 1: take my word for it. Trace for yourself with twenty
- 13:05Speaker 1: five percent off at ritual dot com slash prenegal. Did
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know that most vitamin D three supplements come from
- 13:12Speaker 1: Sheep's Well, I'm Kat, founder of Ritual. We're making traceability
- 13:17Speaker 1: the new standard for the supplement industry. When I was pregnant,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I couldn't find a multi vitamin I could trust. So
- 13:22Speaker 1: it created my own ours is made traceable, third party
- 13:26Speaker 1: tested and clean labeled projects certified oh hander vitamin D
- 13:30Speaker 1: three it comes from sustainably harvested lichen from England. Not
- 13:34Speaker 1: cheap trades for yourself with twenty five percent off at
- 13:37Speaker 1: ritual dot com slash podcast.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Why why why?
- 13:41Speaker 5: Just like why now right right? Like I mean here
- 13:45Speaker 5: we are right before repulation, right before the playoffs.
- 13:49Speaker 6: And we do this like now right like right?
- 13:52Speaker 8: Why?
- 13:53Speaker 3: But I think, I mean, help me understand that.
- 13:56Speaker 5: I think if I'm if I'm sitting in that seat,
- 13:58Speaker 5: I think if I'm sitting day Price, He's executive director
- 14:01Speaker 5: of wbs SAC. So if I'm sitting in the seat
- 14:04Speaker 5: and I'm looking regionally and I'm saying I want to
- 14:07Speaker 5: be competitive regionally, I want to pit West Virginia on
- 14:11Speaker 5: the same par as Ohio, Kentucky, whatever, I think.
- 14:15Speaker 3: What I'm saying is that.
- 14:16Speaker 5: So I think if I'm thinking like that, particularly from
- 14:18Speaker 5: a football which we know is the cash cow, I'm saying.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Four A is a good idea.
- 14:23Speaker 5: However, what happened is the implementation of it was beyond awful.
- 14:31Speaker 3: It was beyond awful.
- 14:32Speaker 5: So I think he's thinking from a regional and maybe
- 14:35Speaker 5: a national standpoint, that this may be a good idea
- 14:37Speaker 5: to do in West Virginia, although the factors and the
- 14:40Speaker 5: numbers maybe don't support it.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I would, okay, So.
- 14:45Speaker 5: I would me just being a just a just a
- 14:48Speaker 5: just a just a straight up athlete, all right, with
- 14:51Speaker 5: no education thought process behind this one of the things
- 14:55Speaker 5: that I'm thinking, okay, And again I'm putting myself in
- 14:59Speaker 5: the place because I'm thinking, I don't know if I could.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Why why is trip? Why is if our numbers are
- 15:08Speaker 5: low to to your valid points of dropping students, losing students,
- 15:15Speaker 5: the whole, the whole thing, all this, all this is happening,
- 15:18Speaker 5: and we want to bump up, we want.
- 15:23Speaker 7: To go up a level our fording then because that
- 15:27Speaker 7: we don't have enough to I mean, in fact, if
- 15:29Speaker 7: if it's all about looking like we are on the
- 15:32Speaker 7: same level as an Ohio or a Kentuckus, we're not.
- 15:35Speaker 7: We're not population wise, we're not, We're not even as
- 15:38Speaker 7: big as they are. So then just eliminate single A
- 15:40Speaker 7: and have quad A triple.
- 15:42Speaker 6: A double A. But but but and and and and
- 15:44Speaker 6: I want to say this, if it's about image, and and.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Again, it's definitely about perception. There's no way I love
- 15:51Speaker 5: West Virginia. I'm a West Virginia athlete, born and raised
- 15:54Speaker 5: in support West Virginia athletes.
- 15:57Speaker 3: But we are not Ohio football.
- 15:58Speaker 5: No, okay, we and and and just because we tag
- 16:02Speaker 5: a number on it doesn't make it Ohio football.
- 16:07Speaker 3: And I'm sorry.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Here's the problem. Here's the problem. And again I understand
- 16:11Speaker 5: mister Price and whoever implemented it. I understand though the
- 16:14Speaker 5: reason because when you're looking at West Virginia and you're
- 16:17Speaker 5: looking at our border counties, so you're looking at the
- 16:20Speaker 5: Wood Counties, you're looking at the Eastern Panhandle, when you're
- 16:24Speaker 5: looking at the northern Panhandle, they have a market competitive
- 16:27Speaker 5: advantage because with the transfer and the Lucy Goosey rules,
- 16:30Speaker 5: now they can get those kids from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland,
- 16:33Speaker 5: d C Virginia. So they can get those kids potentially,
- 16:36Speaker 5: potentially they can the ones that are not playing at
- 16:40Speaker 5: they could get those kids in and again maybe even
- 16:43Speaker 5: more well to do families, particularly in the Eastern Panhandle,
- 16:46Speaker 5: can living like that and work in DC and Maryland
- 16:48Speaker 5: in Virginia. Again, I don't have a problem with the
- 16:52Speaker 5: for a model. The problem was is that they made
- 16:55Speaker 5: this They made the formula so convoluted, it's so complex
- 17:00Speaker 5: that it didn't make sense, and they left themselves exposed
- 17:03Speaker 5: to be attacked. What they should have did is just
- 17:05Speaker 5: based off pure robing numbers. Like I said, if you
- 17:08Speaker 5: got four a system far as excuse me, four four
- 17:11Speaker 5: four systems, you can have twenty eight teams a piece
- 17:14Speaker 5: in the conference. So you have twenty eight quads down
- 17:17Speaker 5: and one one would have twenty nine. And I'm saying
- 17:20Speaker 5: you take you take the schools, line them up strictly
- 17:22Speaker 5: based on the Roman numbers, and start cutting them off. Okay,
- 17:25Speaker 5: the top Roman here, that's that's qualita. Then then you
- 17:29Speaker 5: go down the list. So they made this formula in
- 17:32Speaker 5: which they arrived at the systems too complex and then
- 17:36Speaker 5: left it open to be attacked. So it wasn't it
- 17:38Speaker 5: was maybe maybe they thought too much and then when
- 17:42Speaker 5: and then far as the implementation coming down, once you
- 17:44Speaker 5: got those eleven schools, those eleven schools that were that
- 17:48Speaker 5: chose to found the injunction to go back down the class,
- 17:50Speaker 5: then they didn't think that through which we'll talk about that,
- 17:54Speaker 5: and that brings us to the problem that we're out
- 17:55Speaker 5: now right.
- 17:57Speaker 6: I'm just curious.
- 17:58Speaker 7: I mean what I mean, the and junks have been
- 18:01Speaker 7: flying since August, I mean basically basically. So, So my
- 18:08Speaker 7: curiosity is do other states with high school football have
- 18:11Speaker 7: these type of issues? I mean, is this a common
- 18:15Speaker 7: thing that happens like in Ohio and Kentucky and Georgia
- 18:19Speaker 7: anywhere that they have high school football play?
- 18:21Speaker 3: Do they?
- 18:22Speaker 7: Is it because we've made our system so complex and
- 18:25Speaker 7: so just ridiculous? Really, I mean a layman cannot understand this.
- 18:30Speaker 7: I can barely understand it. There are points of it
- 18:32Speaker 7: I still don't understand. So have we made it so
- 18:35Speaker 7: complex that the teams don't really understand what's going on?
- 18:39Speaker 6: And when they see things changing right.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Before the playoffs and they think they're going to the
- 18:43Speaker 7: playoffs and then all of a sudden, no, you're not.
- 18:45Speaker 7: You know, the point system is deemed this the way
- 18:47Speaker 7: we're going to go. This unjunction says this. I'm just curious.
- 18:51Speaker 7: Do other states have these same problems that we're facing
- 18:55Speaker 7: in West Virginia. They have the same systems, right, quad A,
- 18:58Speaker 7: triple A Like like you said, that's what we're trying
- 19:01Speaker 7: to do get to their level do they experience this.
- 19:04Speaker 5: I'm gonna take I'm gonna take a I'm gonna take
- 19:08Speaker 5: a huge guess at this.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Okay, have you heard about the twenty eighteen study that
- 19:14Speaker 1: showed half of prenatal vitamins tested had unacceptable levels of
- 19:18Speaker 1: heavy metals.
- 19:20Speaker 6: No, well, now you have.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'm Kat, mother of three and founder of Ritual, the
- 19:25Speaker 1: company making traceability the new standard in the supplement industry.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I remember staring at my pre Neal vitamins and finding
- 19:32Speaker 1: all these things. I was trying to avoid high amounts
- 19:35Speaker 1: of heavy metals, synthetic colorants, and unnecessary ingredients. So at
- 19:40Speaker 1: four months pregnant, I quit my job and started Ritual
- 19:43Speaker 1: because I believe that all women deserve to know what
- 19:46Speaker 1: they're putting in their bodies. And why I'm so proud
- 19:49Speaker 1: of our pre Neal vitamin. The ingredients are one hundred
- 19:51Speaker 1: percent traceable. It's third party tested for microbes and heavy metals,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and recently received the Purity Award from the Clean Label Project.
- 19:59Speaker 1: You see, we trace like a mother, because let's be honest,
- 20:02Speaker 1: no one cares quite like a mother. But don't just
- 20:05Speaker 1: take my word for it, trace for yourself. With twenty
- 20:08Speaker 1: five percent off at ritual dot com slash prenegle. Did
- 20:11Speaker 1: you know that most vitamin D three supplements come from
- 20:15Speaker 1: Sheep's Well, I'm cat founder of Ritual. We're making traceability
- 20:19Speaker 1: the new standard for the supplement industry. When I was pregnant,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I couldn't find a multi vitamin I could trust. So
- 20:25Speaker 1: it created my own. Ours is made traceable, third party
- 20:28Speaker 1: tested and clean labeled projects certified. Oh hander vitamin D
- 20:32Speaker 1: three it comes from sustainably harvested lichen from England.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Not cheap.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Trace for yourself with twenty five percent off at ritual
- 20:39Speaker 1: dot com slash podcast.
- 20:41Speaker 5: If they do, and I'm like you, Hollis, I'm going
- 20:44Speaker 5: to assume the list they do. But they don't have
- 20:47Speaker 5: it now.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good point. They're not having it. Yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 3: that's not a good point. Yeah, they're not having that.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Maybe for the season it started, yes, like we did.
- 20:58Speaker 5: They're going to finish the season, start that up right
- 21:01Speaker 5: as soon as the end of the season.
- 21:03Speaker 7: And all that kind of judge kind of thing is
- 21:06Speaker 7: that does a judge and you should know this right
- 21:09Speaker 7: because you're you're a lawyer, and so judge, do judges
- 21:15Speaker 7: have the right to say.
- 21:16Speaker 6: We're gonna put this off. We're gonna put this on
- 21:18Speaker 6: hold after the playoffs. So why so are they?
- 21:20Speaker 7: Are they worried about their their status and their county?
- 21:24Speaker 7: Maybe is that why they're listening to these injunctions and
- 21:26Speaker 7: following three right before the playoffs.
- 21:27Speaker 6: I mean, this is a a toutly different conversation that
- 21:30Speaker 6: I'm curious.
- 21:31Speaker 5: But but I think what happens is that generally, if
- 21:34Speaker 5: a if A, if the case is brought before the court,
- 21:36Speaker 5: they're not necessarily like doing it that day, particularly I'm
- 21:39Speaker 5: going to the Circuit quarter, right, Supreme Court. Generally, like
- 21:42Speaker 5: on the Doctor, urgence we have but but it's happening now.
- 21:45Speaker 5: So generally because on the Doctor, we have time to
- 21:47Speaker 5: research and do all these things. So I would imagine
- 21:50Speaker 5: just the week it's going to allow the court to
- 21:52Speaker 5: do due diligence as far as research and make sure
- 21:54Speaker 5: they arrive at the right decision. I think what Lisa
- 21:56Speaker 5: is asking is if I'm if I'm not mistaken, is
- 21:59Speaker 5: is why did this have to happen now? Why could
- 22:02Speaker 5: we have waited until after the playoffs? Because the thing
- 22:06Speaker 5: is if we waited that those those teams wouldn't have
- 22:09Speaker 5: been able to make the better. They're arguing whether they
- 22:11Speaker 5: want to make the playoffs because you got winning teams
- 22:13Speaker 5: who have winning records. From what they say, that's that's
- 22:17Speaker 5: out the playoffs. Now with the Wood County injunction, and
- 22:20Speaker 5: let'sten and before we go there, let's talk about this.
- 22:23Speaker 5: When you had the eleven teams, so you had the
- 22:26Speaker 5: eleven teams that were in double A, excuse me, quade
- 22:28Speaker 5: and Triple A mostly that that wanted to get bumped
- 22:31Speaker 5: down in the beginning to August. What should have happened
- 22:34Speaker 5: then is that you need a conference realignment at that point,
- 22:38Speaker 5: because that's why we're here. Because again you have teams
- 22:42Speaker 5: like a Saint Albans who are Triple A capital is
- 22:45Speaker 5: Triple A, that are basically a four A conference and
- 22:48Speaker 5: you have to play so many conference games. You gotta
- 22:51Speaker 5: play your conference. So basically they're playing a four A
- 22:53Speaker 5: schedule getting there, getting beat bad again, not creative, competitive
- 22:58Speaker 5: about violence, getting And then now when it comes to
- 23:01Speaker 5: the points system, which we can go over if you
- 23:03Speaker 5: want to, they rack up the points because they played
- 23:06Speaker 5: these schedule versus a team who maybe have a winning
- 23:09Speaker 5: record that played a lower schedule, and and so it's
- 23:12Speaker 5: like the whole again, implementation of this was not thoroughly
- 23:16Speaker 5: thought out.
- 23:16Speaker 6: Well, the point systems flawed. I'm just gonna put it
- 23:19Speaker 6: out for.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Sure. But all of this is all too all. This
- 23:27Speaker 3: was all too late.
- 23:28Speaker 5: You didn't have There's just just there just wasn't There
- 23:31Speaker 5: just wasn't enough time to make these changes, no matter
- 23:35Speaker 5: who wanted to make them, why they wanted to make them,
- 23:38Speaker 5: it just wasn't enough time to make this massive change
- 23:44Speaker 5: of And and again to your point about realignment, I'm
- 23:50Speaker 5: gonna say that, in a sense, the four A in
- 23:54Speaker 5: their mind was their realignment. The eleven junctions happen, yes,
- 24:01Speaker 5: because you can't get you can't have a Saint Aubans
- 24:05Speaker 5: in Capital basically in a conference surrounded by four a's
- 24:09Speaker 5: because they have to play those teams. Absolutely so again,
- 24:11Speaker 5: and your schedules already said, your schedules already set, and
- 24:15Speaker 5: the majority of those teams are are now four A teams.
- 24:19Speaker 3: So whether you go down back down the triple A,
- 24:22Speaker 3: your your your massive schedule is four A.
- 24:25Speaker 5: So what should have happened is that once you had
- 24:27Speaker 5: those eleven teams flip, then it should have probably been
- 24:31Speaker 5: even a WVSSA could have maybe had an injunction and say, hey,
- 24:33Speaker 5: look all right, we messed it up. We screwed it up.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Let's go go back to the old formula that we're
- 24:38Speaker 5: gonna go back to the triple A. Excuse me, triple
- 24:40Speaker 5: A down a single A, and then we're gonna try
- 24:41Speaker 5: again this next year because that threw everything off, and
- 24:45Speaker 5: that's why we're here.
- 24:46Speaker 7: And how long did did the teams have I mean,
- 24:50Speaker 7: when they started talking reclassification. Was it just something that happened,
- 24:53Speaker 7: like within the course of twelve months, or was it
- 24:57Speaker 7: something that we've been talking about for a few years.
- 24:59Speaker 7: Because what you're saying is, you know, their schedules needed
- 25:03Speaker 7: to change. Schedules needed to change.
- 25:05Speaker 6: They needed time to do that.
- 25:06Speaker 3: You can't change the skin, and they.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Did not have time when when that hit, right, okay,
- 25:11Speaker 5: there was no time to change. The schedules were already there.
- 25:15Speaker 6: Was no warning, is what I was saying.
- 25:17Speaker 3: But the injunctions, I guess you could say that's the warning.
- 25:20Speaker 3: That may be the only that might be the only thing.
- 25:24Speaker 3: But your schedules already set, right, and so where imagine change.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Imagine a single A team that had picked up maybe
- 25:35Speaker 5: like a triple A team to play right as a
- 25:39Speaker 5: as a out of conference game, they could find themselves
- 25:42Speaker 5: playing a ton of teams that went up, that that
- 25:48Speaker 5: was moved up. You're playing out of your out of
- 25:52Speaker 5: your rank.
- 25:52Speaker 3: And here's my point, points, and here's my point.
- 25:56Speaker 5: When you had those eleven teams flip and now you
- 26:00Speaker 5: when you when you realize I only have sixteen quad
- 26:04Speaker 5: eight schools at that point, you should have said to yourself.
- 26:08Speaker 5: For somebody in the organization that says, a hold up,
- 26:10Speaker 5: let's okay, we're gonna scrap all this right, we're gonna
- 26:12Speaker 5: go back to the o flom and we're gonna put
- 26:14Speaker 5: everything back because now you have a two and eight
- 26:18Speaker 5: Hedgesville team that's making the playoffs.
- 26:20Speaker 3: And and again not to hate, but be doing nothing
- 26:24Speaker 3: but regroup.
- 26:25Speaker 5: It makes it is everybody makes or you know, everybody
- 26:30Speaker 5: make it, or maybe you got some wins disqualified as
- 26:32Speaker 5: summer something to that effect. But if you're two and eight,
- 26:34Speaker 5: legitimately you don't need to be there. You're gonna get
- 26:37Speaker 5: players hurt, and it's just you don't need to you
- 26:40Speaker 5: need to cause again, we've suffered those two in eight,
- 26:43Speaker 5: one and nine seasons, right and you know by the
- 26:45Speaker 5: end of that man mentally physically you've done. You can't
- 26:50Speaker 5: if if you haven't played sports, and if you specifically
- 26:54Speaker 5: had not played football, and know what going through a
- 26:57Speaker 5: losing season is like, getting beat up and getting beat
- 27:00Speaker 5: up weekend and week I trust me, I know that
- 27:03Speaker 5: I got that for four years at Marshall, and I
- 27:05Speaker 5: can tell you it is not pleasant. By by that
- 27:08Speaker 5: game ten, by that game eleven, Bro, you're done and
- 27:11Speaker 5: you you're trying to rethink, you trying to rethink football
- 27:15Speaker 5: as a whole, you're rethinking yourself.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You're football.
- 27:19Speaker 9: Like choice.
- 27:20Speaker 3: And when you're two and eight and you're making That's
- 27:22Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 27:22Speaker 5: So when you're down to sixteen teams at that point,
- 27:25Speaker 5: that didn't prompt you to say, look all right, look
- 27:27Speaker 5: we tried it, we messed up. We're gonna do this again.
- 27:31Speaker 5: We're gonna and so I'm saying again, and we're gonna
- 27:33Speaker 5: talk about where we're at now. But I'm saying from
- 27:36Speaker 5: the very beginning, warning, come before destruction. So you was
- 27:39Speaker 5: warrant then and it wasn't working then, so it should
- 27:42Speaker 5: have been eliminated. Then it's gone back.
- 27:46Speaker 6: Right up. Yes, I agree, well.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Let me let me do this.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Let me let me.
- 27:50Speaker 5: I didn't do it in the opening, let me do
- 27:51Speaker 5: it now. Let's Talk is presented by tourney Frank Walker.

- 28:22Speaker 5: for any updates.
- 28:24Speaker 3: All right, so.
- 28:27Speaker 5: You're gonna go with the point system right quick? Yes, okay, okay, yes,
- 28:30Speaker 5: we can do that, all right. So again, so I'm
- 28:33Speaker 5: looking at it right now. This is directly from the
- 28:35Speaker 5: wv SSAC website. So again, you have the four class system.
- 28:41Speaker 5: So we'll just take four A for example, before A.
- 28:44Speaker 5: If you get a win against a four eighteen, that's
- 28:46Speaker 5: fifteen points. If you play a four eighteen, that's seven
- 28:50Speaker 5: point five points. For each game, one by a defeated
- 28:53Speaker 5: opponent that's one point. So if you beat Cabo Milan
- 28:57Speaker 5: and the Cabal Midland picks up a win, you get
- 28:59Speaker 5: a point for their win. All right, So for each
- 29:02Speaker 5: game tie by defeated opponent, that's a half a point.
- 29:06Speaker 5: So if Cavil Miller ties somebody, you get a half
- 29:09Speaker 5: a point. So for each game one by a tie
- 29:12Speaker 5: the opponent, that's half a point. So if you tie
- 29:14Speaker 5: an theponent and then they win a game, you get
- 29:16Speaker 5: a half a point. Look at y'all for each game
- 29:19Speaker 5: tied by look look at this one. For each game
- 29:22Speaker 5: tied by a tied opponent, you get a quarter point.
- 29:27Speaker 5: So if I tie Cavia Million, So if I tie
- 29:31Speaker 5: Cable Milon and then Cavil Miller goes out and ties
- 29:33Speaker 5: Spring Valley, then I get a quarter point.
- 29:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 29:36Speaker 5: For each game won by a winning opponent in a
- 29:38Speaker 5: class or in this class or above, you get a
- 29:41Speaker 5: one point five. So if I'm a triple A team,
- 29:43Speaker 5: I play a quad A team that quad A team
- 29:46Speaker 5: wins a game, I get a point and a half.
- 29:48Speaker 5: So for each game tie by winning opponent in a
- 29:51Speaker 5: class or above, you get seven point five. So if
- 29:53Speaker 5: you if you play it up in that team, you
- 29:55Speaker 5: beat that team and they tied an opponent, you get
- 29:58Speaker 5: a three quarters of a point.
- 30:00Speaker 6: My officially hurts right now.
- 30:02Speaker 3: So that's the point system.
- 30:04Speaker 5: So any anybody listeners, if you if you understand that
- 30:10Speaker 5: my head is off to you, we're gonna post it
- 30:12Speaker 5: on your face.
- 30:14Speaker 3: We we need we need you.
- 30:16Speaker 5: If you got that, Okay, if you heard that and
- 30:18Speaker 5: you understand that right off the top, please hit me
- 30:22Speaker 5: up on my on on on Facebook with let'st off
- 30:25Speaker 5: with currently because I need you to be around me
- 30:28Speaker 5: because I'm just telling you my brain, Yeah, I need
- 30:30Speaker 5: you in my life because my brain cannot calculate that.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Here's the thing, though, hollis this is this has been
- 30:37Speaker 6: in place for years. This is not new, Like I
- 30:41Speaker 6: guess it's new to me. I didn't realize it's totally.
- 30:44Speaker 5: New to me, okay, because I was I was somewhere
- 30:46Speaker 5: else in this. My question is is who's one? Why
- 30:52Speaker 5: is that the process? Like like if you came in
- 30:56Speaker 5: and you let's just say you were, you took over
- 30:59Speaker 5: the department, okay, W S S A C. Okay, you
- 31:01Speaker 5: take you took it over, and that's your that's how
- 31:04Speaker 5: you measure the process.
- 31:08Speaker 3: When would you change that?
- 31:09Speaker 5: I would now change and I'll tell you why, because again,
- 31:14Speaker 5: outside of it being a little like it's a little
- 31:16Speaker 5: convoluted and everything. But what in essence, here's what it does. Simply,
- 31:21Speaker 5: it rewards you for playing the best competition possible. So
- 31:25Speaker 5: it rewards you for playing up, and it rewards you
- 31:29Speaker 5: for playing the best competition. We look at uh Fairmunt
- 31:33Speaker 5: East Rights the last couple of years, they were a
- 31:36Speaker 5: double A school, right, they essentially what they did they
- 31:40Speaker 5: played a triple A schedule.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Now going into the.
- 31:44Speaker 5: Playoffs, going at the end of the season, they like
- 31:46Speaker 5: six and four, five and five ish, But because they
- 31:49Speaker 5: had racked up so much point, because they played up
- 31:52Speaker 5: and got some wins, they're seeding in the Double A
- 31:55Speaker 5: playoffs was hot and they end up winning the championship
- 31:57Speaker 5: that year. So, in essence, what this point system allows
- 32:01Speaker 5: you to do if you play the best teams possible
- 32:03Speaker 5: and if you play up.
- 32:04Speaker 3: So the motivation what.
- 32:05Speaker 5: You're saying, the motivation, what you what you're reading into
- 32:09Speaker 5: that is the motivation of playing up, playing playing up
- 32:13Speaker 5: and playing the best, playing the best competition. So Martin's,
- 32:16Speaker 5: for example, a Hurricane playing Martins burd this year, that
- 32:19Speaker 5: that that's not a game that you have to play.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Probably that's the game maybe you don't want to play
- 32:23Speaker 5: in the regular season, but because they played that game,
- 32:26Speaker 5: they get they get more points of playing that game,
- 32:28Speaker 5: they'll get a pointed two up, so it rewards you
- 32:31Speaker 5: for that. So that's why I think it's a good system.
- 32:33Speaker 7: But it's also the reason we're in the mess that
- 32:35Speaker 7: we're in right now, and we've got losing records going
- 32:39Speaker 7: to possibly going to the playoffs because of the point system.
- 32:42Speaker 5: No, the point system is is just the point system.
- 32:45Speaker 5: The reason we're in the message because the realignment, the
- 32:49Speaker 5: Class A and the eleven schools dropping down.
- 32:52Speaker 7: But honestly, don't you think that the team's in quad A,
- 32:56Speaker 7: triple A, double A single, they should be playing each
- 32:58Speaker 7: other possible, and then that should be what's going on,
- 33:02Speaker 7: not not just trying to brack up points and playing
- 33:06Speaker 7: above your class.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Yeah, because the person who's gonna be strategued, that's gonna
- 33:11Speaker 5: be strategic about that, and it's gonna do that solely
- 33:15Speaker 5: for the opportunity to get into the playoffs.
- 33:17Speaker 3: But here's it, But that's not it.
- 33:19Speaker 5: What happened though, is that if we had a if
- 33:21Speaker 5: this isn't what wasn't here, and we're saying we're just
- 33:23Speaker 5: basing it off record. What what's going to happen is
- 33:26Speaker 5: that you're gonna have a Quada team that's gonna play
- 33:28Speaker 5: the conference games that they're mandated to play, and then
- 33:31Speaker 5: they would just play down just to say, okay, then
- 33:34Speaker 5: I'm seven to three. But you can you can, you
- 33:37Speaker 5: can easily fix that and we'll talk about well, we'll
- 33:40Speaker 5: talk about that as soon as we come out of
- 33:41Speaker 5: the break.
- 33:42Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we got to take a
- 33:43Speaker 3: quick break. We'll be right back.

- 34:43Speaker 4: Now back to the conversation.
- 34:46Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're back and uh and Hollis.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Has has kind of dropped the bomb a little bit
- 34:56Speaker 5: on this. Why this is a good system, I understand totally.
- 35:00Speaker 5: It makes sense some of it it does what it
- 35:03Speaker 5: totally makes sense. Like I said, the rewards you for
- 35:06Speaker 5: playing the best competition possible.
- 35:08Speaker 7: I'm gonna go with you, Hollis on the part about
- 35:10Speaker 7: getting points if you you know, for winning against a
- 35:14Speaker 7: for a team. Okay, you get so many points for
- 35:17Speaker 7: tying against the four A team in your triple A
- 35:19Speaker 7: or whatever. But then we're getting into for each game
- 35:23Speaker 7: tied by a tied opponent, for each game won by
- 35:27Speaker 7: a winning opponent in its class, or above, for each
- 35:29Speaker 7: game tied by winning.
- 35:31Speaker 6: Opponent in it's class. I mean some of this stuff
- 35:33Speaker 6: is very complex for high school football. I mean, I
- 35:38Speaker 6: can see a point system to a degree, but not
- 35:41Speaker 6: what they've got in place here.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Is there not a system because they're not a system
- 35:46Speaker 3: or somewhere else.
- 35:49Speaker 5: I mean, I understand that, I understand that, and I
- 35:55Speaker 5: don't know as a fact that what I'm getting ready
- 35:59Speaker 5: to say is factual. But I'm going to make it
- 36:03Speaker 5: sound like it's factual. Okay, I'm going to put it
- 36:05Speaker 5: out there like it's factual.

- 37:06Speaker 5: I'm gonna make the case here that the structure in
- 37:10Speaker 5: how you how you get to playoffs, how you do
- 37:15Speaker 5: those types of things, there is a system set up somewhere,
- 37:21Speaker 5: whether it's collegiate, whether it's professional, that you can you
- 37:26Speaker 5: can follow that does not require tidd.
- 37:32Speaker 3: And there's no reason.
- 37:32Speaker 5: But there's no reason for that complication unless you want
- 37:36Speaker 5: people to be confused.
- 37:37Speaker 3: But here's the thing.
- 37:38Speaker 5: You're only talking about an eight point scale, so we're
- 37:40Speaker 5: only taking eight factors into this. And and again, not
- 37:43Speaker 5: only does it reward your your team for playing the
- 37:46Speaker 5: best competition, but it also has a cyclical effect where
- 37:49Speaker 5: it's saying that not only should I be playing, but
- 37:52Speaker 5: you should be playing too. So basically it's saying that
- 37:55Speaker 5: we all got to play the best competition that we
- 37:59Speaker 5: all can play, So I can't play the best competition.
- 38:03Speaker 5: And then you play sorry competition, but I won't say
- 38:06Speaker 5: I will say lower competent.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I won't say.
- 38:08Speaker 8: So.
- 38:09Speaker 5: So it creates a situation in which everybody got to
- 38:12Speaker 5: play every got to play the best out there.
- 38:14Speaker 7: Okay, And and that makes sense at the college level
- 38:16Speaker 7: because there's so many college programs to choose from. In
- 38:21Speaker 7: high school, there's there, it's a very limited amount of teams,
- 38:25Speaker 7: and so it's up to Martinsburg who they want to play. Basically,
- 38:28Speaker 7: I mean that they're they're the they're the cream of
- 38:30Speaker 7: the cross and so you know, you've got your double A,
- 38:33Speaker 7: triple A. Even as a team that wants to play them,
- 38:35Speaker 7: they may not possibly be able to play them just
- 38:37Speaker 7: because everybody wants to play them.
- 38:39Speaker 6: You see what I'm trying.
- 38:40Speaker 5: That's why. That's why Martin Berger and the Hurricane they
- 38:43Speaker 5: have those out of town games, and there's a form
- 38:44Speaker 5: there's a whole different formula for that.
- 38:46Speaker 3: So that's why.
- 38:48Speaker 5: So they play they play that good because again Martin
- 38:50Speaker 5: Burger play the Virginia Champs and DC and Maryland Champs
- 38:53Speaker 5: and all that, So that's why they play those games
- 38:55Speaker 5: as well. See but see, there's no but but there's
- 38:58Speaker 5: to me, what I think how I see it. So
- 39:04Speaker 5: this conference, this conference, this conference, that conference. Right, so
- 39:08Speaker 5: you you play your your conference teams, say there's eight
- 39:13Speaker 5: of them, Okay. Then now your next two teams, you
- 39:18Speaker 5: could play whoever you want, whoever you can, whoever you can, right,
- 39:24Speaker 5: you know, whoever you can, whoever wants to play you.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 39:28Speaker 5: Now for those two games, you can choose to play up.
- 39:33Speaker 5: You can choose to play damn well not because what matters.
- 39:39Speaker 5: First thing that matters is is your conference. But here's
- 39:42Speaker 5: the problem with that.
- 39:44Speaker 3: The problem with that.
- 39:45Speaker 5: If you did it that way, then essentially I could
- 39:47Speaker 5: go four and for of my conference, I could play
- 39:50Speaker 5: two lower level teams, and I can go six. Now
- 39:52Speaker 5: six and now I'm six and four. Now it appears
- 39:54Speaker 5: I had a good reason. What's gonna matter. What's gonna
- 39:56Speaker 5: matter is gonna be. The first thing that matters is
- 39:58Speaker 5: your conference record. The conference record matter. But let's say
- 40:01Speaker 5: everybody was kind of middle of the road, or this
- 40:03Speaker 5: conference maybe wasn't this good. So now I'm getting in
- 40:06Speaker 5: and I played two lower teams, or or if everything
- 40:10Speaker 5: is up and maybe I'm seven and three or six
- 40:12Speaker 5: and four. Now I don't even make the playoffs with
- 40:14Speaker 5: a winning record because I would and play those those
- 40:17Speaker 5: those lower.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Two teams that way.
- 40:20Speaker 5: So what I'm saying is that I think this system
- 40:22Speaker 5: foster is an environment where everybody got to play the best. Okay,
- 40:25Speaker 5: So so I like this. Okay, so you look at you, okay,
- 40:28Speaker 5: and everybody. I'm gonna use ma. I'm gonna use Marshall.
- 40:32Speaker 5: I'm gonna use Marshall.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 40:34Speaker 5: People are upset because some people are upset because they
- 40:37Speaker 5: they they're Bowl eligible.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Okay, how did they get Bowl eligible?
- 40:40Speaker 4: Right?
- 40:41Speaker 8: That?
- 40:41Speaker 3: You know what? What is their record?
- 40:43Speaker 5: Their record is not like something in one right or
- 40:46Speaker 5: something in no right. But they made the playoffs because
- 40:49Speaker 5: the structure is yeah, the boat, yes, so the bowl
- 40:53Speaker 5: is what it is. So you get Bowl eligible for
- 40:56Speaker 5: this reason. I think it's very simple to.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Make what that what the requirement is at the high
- 41:04Speaker 3: school level to make the playoffs.
- 41:07Speaker 9: You either have to you have to do this, this
- 41:10Speaker 9: and that. But that thing that you read out, it's simple.
- 41:15Speaker 9: I think I think you too much into it.
- 41:18Speaker 3: No, I just don't. I'm just.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Because no, I don't get it simple. It is, like
- 41:23Speaker 5: I said, a point system. It's basically a point factors that.
- 41:28Speaker 6: Don't had a double A single A, but now that
- 41:31Speaker 6: we got quad A, it just throws it off.
- 41:34Speaker 5: I would succeed. I will succeed that point. I would
- 41:37Speaker 5: acknowledge that that because of the current sy that doesn't
- 41:41Speaker 5: necessarily because again you only have sixteen teams in the
- 41:45Speaker 5: in the quality again, you know you could probably just
- 41:47Speaker 5: do that by record, right, you don't need this and that.
- 41:49Speaker 5: But I think that makes sense. But at the end
- 41:52Speaker 5: of the day, like I said, I think the overall point, now,
- 41:55Speaker 5: maybe it can be simplified.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Maybe that there's no question that could be simple.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Yeah, but I but I think overall I like it
- 42:01Speaker 5: because again, Fairmount East was a couple of years ago,
- 42:05Speaker 5: they played a whole trip a schedule has a basically
- 42:07Speaker 5: a double A school outside of the games of mandated
- 42:09Speaker 5: and it made them a better team. How many gus
- 42:12Speaker 5: do you know? How many games are mandated to play
- 42:14Speaker 5: in conference? It depends on size, and not everybody's conference
- 42:17Speaker 5: sizes different, so that's different. So I know they I
- 42:20Speaker 5: want to say they played a hunting Ton, Cavill Milland
- 42:23Speaker 5: and Spring Valley. I mean they played a murders role.
- 42:27Speaker 5: And the good thing about that what I see that
- 42:30Speaker 5: as a benefit is I want my team to be
- 42:33Speaker 5: tested against some of the best teams.
- 42:35Speaker 3: So when I play in my conference, i'm playing I
- 42:39Speaker 3: know what playing Huntington is like. I know what playing
- 42:42Speaker 3: that team is like. So now I can I can
- 42:45Speaker 3: tell them we can play with this team.
- 42:48Speaker 5: So now we gave you the points system, I think
- 42:51Speaker 5: we gave you kind of the origin and our thoughts
- 42:53Speaker 5: basically how this whole problem started. So now we're at
- 42:56Speaker 5: the playoffs and just to set it up and we
- 42:59Speaker 5: could talk about you had basically two injunctions. You had
- 43:02Speaker 5: an injunction in Wood County, you had an injunction in
- 43:05Speaker 5: Mason County. Basically the Wood County junction is kind of
- 43:09Speaker 5: that's why we went over to the point system because
- 43:10Speaker 5: basically challenged the point system and basically they came to
- 43:14Speaker 5: the conclusion that it was flawed and it didn't factor
- 43:17Speaker 5: in what we just talked about as far as you
- 43:19Speaker 5: playing up down whatever like that. So essentially what happens
- 43:23Speaker 5: is that you had a school like Saint Albans three
- 43:25Speaker 5: and seven, Capital three and seven, because they played basically
- 43:28Speaker 5: a four A schedule, then they they.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Got them points. They were already that they were.
- 43:33Speaker 5: Already in the conference, so it eliminated Point Pleasant in
- 43:36Speaker 5: Hampshire County. So basically those teams got dropped out of
- 43:40Speaker 5: the Triple A playoffs because of this. And you have
- 43:43Speaker 5: some other schools like West Side, Tulsagn Tulsa and I
- 43:46Speaker 5: think Wayne as well, and the I think they are
- 43:48Speaker 5: Double A. And then you had another injunction after that,
- 43:52Speaker 5: so and that junction was successful, so that changed the
- 43:56Speaker 5: playoff structure. Then you had another injunction in Mason County
- 44:00Speaker 5: and basically what that injunction stated was that there needed
- 44:03Speaker 5: to be a playing game.
- 44:04Speaker 3: So essentially the two teams teams.
- 44:06Speaker 5: That got dropped out of Triple A, which was Point
- 44:08Speaker 5: Pleasant in Hampshire County, they wanted a playing game. So
- 44:11Speaker 5: I think it would be Point Pleasant versus Capital in
- 44:15Speaker 5: Hampshire versus Saint Alban's, so those would be the two
- 44:18Speaker 5: playing games that then you would actually start the playoffs.
- 44:20Speaker 3: That injunction was successful.
- 44:22Speaker 5: So now the WV SASAC came back and they took
- 44:26Speaker 5: it to the Supreme Court to drop those two injection
- 44:29Speaker 5: injunctions and take it back to just the original playoffs.
- 44:33Speaker 5: That was a couple of weeks ago, So that's a
- 44:35Speaker 5: mouthful so this is why it's at the Supreme Court now,
- 44:40Speaker 5: and this is why we have the postponement.
- 44:43Speaker 6: And we also had I think, did you something about
- 44:46Speaker 6: Wyoming County?
- 44:47Speaker 3: I didn't. I must have missed out. I didn't see
- 44:49Speaker 3: that one.
- 44:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I found Wyoming Counties also filed another lawsuit for Westside,
- 44:54Speaker 7: which was one of the schools that was bumped from the.
- 44:58Speaker 6: From the injunction granted in Wood Counties. So they're upset.
- 45:00Speaker 7: They want relief from the injunctions, which I take that
- 45:04Speaker 7: as they just want to go relief.
- 45:06Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 45:06Speaker 7: I think that's what too many maybe or just you know,
- 45:10Speaker 7: go back to just get rid of all the injunctions,
- 45:12Speaker 7: is what it sounds like to me. Uh And and
- 45:16Speaker 7: so then there was Yeah, so that was the only
- 45:18Speaker 7: one that I think that I heard, Oh in Tulsa,
- 45:20Speaker 7: you said that one, though, I think that was just
- 45:22Speaker 7: recent like today.
- 45:23Speaker 6: So it's a mess.
- 45:24Speaker 3: And my question is how do you how do you
- 45:31Speaker 3: go through a season, get to the week of playoffs.
- 45:39Speaker 5: And don't play I mean, I much as far as
- 45:44Speaker 5: the postponement, yes, well, I mean it's a court process. Now,
- 45:47Speaker 5: I know this time, I know, I totally understand that
- 45:50Speaker 5: get I get that. My question, my thought, my comment
- 45:55Speaker 5: to this is, imagine, imagine you, imagine you, imagine me.
- 46:02Speaker 5: You're the week of the playoffs and you're not playing
- 46:06Speaker 5: you you you by Tuesday, you know you're not You're
- 46:11Speaker 5: not gonna play a game on on on Friday night.
- 46:13Speaker 3: This is a great advantage. This is the ultimate page.
- 46:18Speaker 3: If you.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Got players that are hurting, now here's because it's gonna
- 46:24Speaker 5: be two weeks, so it has to be two weeks
- 46:26Speaker 5: that you're going to sit, right, So for this week,
- 46:29Speaker 5: I can get players held up, I can rest them.
- 46:32Speaker 5: And again that may be that's different from team the team,
- 46:35Speaker 5: because some teams you need them just to go and
- 46:37Speaker 5: the other guys. The other part of that is you
- 46:38Speaker 5: got other sports, and you got other sports, and that's
- 46:40Speaker 5: that's a problem too. But I think the playoffs is
- 46:42Speaker 5: gonna take precedent and you I think, particularly depending on
- 46:48Speaker 5: where you're at, you probably have an idea of who
- 46:51Speaker 5: you might end up playing. So you probably got maybe
- 46:52Speaker 5: one of maybe three teams right, So it's going to
- 46:55Speaker 5: give you more time to develop scouting reports on these teams,
- 46:57Speaker 5: and it can get players held up if you are injured. Team,
- 47:00Speaker 5: So if you're like Noah, Villa, Tommy and Hurricane who
- 47:02Speaker 5: has a bum ancho right now? And you out you
- 47:05Speaker 5: can sit for two weeks? Boy, that that helps you.
- 47:08Speaker 5: So I think it can be an advantage too, and
- 47:11Speaker 5: so again to somebody's in advantage, disadvantage to somebody.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Oneredent, you know. So I look at this and I
- 47:22Speaker 3: just I just can't. There's no way I can like it.
- 47:25Speaker 5: There's just no there's just zero chances for me to
- 47:28Speaker 5: find something that's justifiable here that makes sense to me, like.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Oh, this works. So let me ask your opinion on this.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Now that's both of you. What is the court? Do remember?
- 47:38Speaker 5: We got we got basically three lingering injunctions hanging around,
- 47:42Speaker 5: and we got obviously they in WVS says he wants
- 47:46Speaker 5: to take it back to the original format.
- 47:48Speaker 3: So so what what what happens?
- 47:50Speaker 5: I think it's going to go back to the original
- 47:52Speaker 5: format because I don't because I just don't see them
- 47:57Speaker 5: being willing to even trying to test something new.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Now, let's just go back to what we were doing
- 48:04Speaker 3: and and.
- 48:05Speaker 6: And then deal with it.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yes, that's that's what that's what.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I think Carl's right.
- 48:11Speaker 7: I mean, I think the playing game would be probably
- 48:15Speaker 7: a fair thing to do for those teams that feel
- 48:19Speaker 7: like they're being slighted.
- 48:21Speaker 6: But I don't know if they'll open that can of worms.
- 48:23Speaker 6: I don't.
- 48:24Speaker 7: I think what they'll do is just go back to
- 48:26Speaker 7: the original, the original plan, and then address it in
- 48:30Speaker 7: the off season.
- 48:31Speaker 5: See, I think you got to go with the Wood
- 48:33Speaker 5: County because the Wood County is exact and correct in
- 48:36Speaker 5: the formula. Far as the points laid.
- 48:38Speaker 6: Out, those rocked out.
- 48:41Speaker 3: So I think again, if you the court.
- 48:43Speaker 5: If the court, I'm looking at it, well, I don't
- 48:45Speaker 5: necessarily want because I think Mason County has the right idea.
- 48:48Speaker 5: I think that's exacting correct, and I think they ought
- 48:50Speaker 5: to have the playing games just because it is. But
- 48:53Speaker 5: if I'm from the if I'm looking at it from
- 48:55Speaker 5: a judicial standpoint, I'm saying, well, I don't want to
- 48:57Speaker 5: risk that's kind of unnecessary to have that playing games.
- 49:00Speaker 5: So what does the law say? What does the policy say?
- 49:03Speaker 5: And the policy say the point system that we just
- 49:05Speaker 5: went over. So if I'm the court, I'm looking at
- 49:08Speaker 5: the policy, I'm looking at the point system, and I'm saying,
- 49:10Speaker 5: if Wood County has exact and correct and this is
- 49:13Speaker 5: the formula that you have on based on the policies,
- 49:16Speaker 5: based on the systems, based on writing, blah blah blah,
- 49:19Speaker 5: blah blah, then you gotta I would probably dismiss Mason
- 49:23Speaker 5: County's injunction and Wood Counties will be acknowledged, and that's
- 49:27Speaker 5: the ruling I will go with.
- 49:29Speaker 3: So, unfortunately, those teams will be out.
- 49:31Speaker 7: How long do you think it will take before the
- 49:34Speaker 7: West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals comes out with a ruling.
- 49:36Speaker 3: I think it was going to be this week.
- 49:39Speaker 6: I would hope so, because.
- 49:40Speaker 7: These injunctions happen like within hours, So I would hope
- 49:43Speaker 7: that they could resolve this quickly and at least get
- 49:46Speaker 7: the play Because here's the other thing we're going to
- 49:48Speaker 7: run into with and this is a domino effect whenever
- 49:51Speaker 7: you delay the football playoffs and they're going to be
- 49:54Speaker 7: hosted here in Charleston this year, the Super Six, and
- 49:59Speaker 7: we're looking at at everything being pushed out a week. Well,
- 50:03Speaker 7: you've got other events going on in Charleston coming up
- 50:05Speaker 7: in the in the next few weeks. You've got, uh
- 50:08Speaker 7: the cheerleader competition that's going to take place at the
- 50:10Speaker 7: Civic Center of the State cheerleading competition. You also have volleyball,
- 50:14Speaker 7: which is being affected by all this at the Girls
- 50:17Speaker 7: Volleyball Championships that's all going to be taking place at
- 50:20Speaker 7: this you know, around the same time. If they keep
- 50:22Speaker 7: pushing it out, you're gonna have issues with accommodations in
- 50:26Speaker 7: Charleston having that many people. Like we talked before Hollis,
- 50:30Speaker 7: they've got rooms blocked, you know, for for for these
- 50:32Speaker 7: teams coming in to.
- 50:34Speaker 6: Do the Super six.
- 50:35Speaker 7: If you've got events going on with the Civic Center,
- 50:37Speaker 7: like Ringling Brothers, you know, the circus is coming to
- 50:40Speaker 7: town in the next few weeks. They've got i think
- 50:43Speaker 7: trans Iberian Orchestra. You're gonna have an issue with people
- 50:46Speaker 7: trying to find accommodations and you know, just exactly so
- 50:52Speaker 7: you know, that's the domino effect of all this. So hopefully,
- 50:55Speaker 7: like you said, they get this settled quickly and they
- 50:57Speaker 7: can get these playoffs going next week or it's going
- 50:59Speaker 7: to become even more complicated.
- 51:00Speaker 5: And the CVB, I'm sure they had activities and everything
- 51:03Speaker 5: planned out for this, the host, the host parties and
- 51:06Speaker 5: all that others. Absolutely, you have to assume that everything
- 51:09Speaker 5: that was planned, that everything was planned out for this week,
- 51:13Speaker 5: for that game to show up, and all of a sudden,
- 51:17Speaker 5: everything's changed, everything has changed. I'm thinking that they like,
- 51:23Speaker 5: this has to be a day or so conversation.
- 51:27Speaker 3: I don't know, man, I know it is a big
- 51:30Speaker 3: decision moving forward.
- 51:32Speaker 5: I just don't know how long you can wait, Like,
- 51:35Speaker 5: you can't put this into a week, You can't, you
- 51:38Speaker 5: can't rest. No, you can't, No, you can't it. But
- 51:43Speaker 5: but but but but look at what look at what's
- 51:46Speaker 5: at stake for every every couple of days that go,
- 51:50Speaker 5: you could you can make the positive side of you
- 51:52Speaker 5: got rest, you got time to work on a game
- 51:54Speaker 5: plan against somebody else.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Blah blah blah blah. You got all that. But there's
- 52:00Speaker 3: a whole lot of other stuff happening.
- 52:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 52:03Speaker 5: There's there's there's a kid who's on the team, plays
- 52:07Speaker 5: basketball and might be the start of basketball teams practice,
- 52:13Speaker 5: get ready to get for the games.
- 52:15Speaker 3: All of those kinds of things are all lingering out there.
- 52:18Speaker 5: Okay, So let me ask you this, and and I
- 52:21Speaker 5: think this is a conversation that a bigger conversation that's
- 52:25Speaker 5: definitely a part of what's going on. Because this has
- 52:28Speaker 5: been a terrible high school football season for me, like
- 52:30Speaker 5: it just hasn't been fun. I really haven't been excited
- 52:32Speaker 5: about it just because of particularly paying attention to the
- 52:34Speaker 5: for a class, because it's just been you know, everybody's
- 52:37Speaker 5: making the playoffs, so there's no suspense, right his football
- 52:42Speaker 5: in West Virginia become totally toxic. And I'm talking about
- 52:46Speaker 5: not I'm talking about from what you've talked about in
- 52:50Speaker 5: the numerable amount of times far as the little league
- 52:52Speaker 5: situations that's going on around the state. We've had discussions
- 52:56Speaker 5: about the middle school debacles that's happening here at least locally. Obviously,
- 52:59Speaker 5: this whole high school thing, and even with w U
- 53:03Speaker 5: and and and and and Marshall not being able to
- 53:07Speaker 5: be as competitives that we liked just because they're playing
- 53:10Speaker 5: in these distant conferences.
- 53:12Speaker 3: So so it's football. Just is it on a downhill?
- 53:15Speaker 4: Is it?
- 53:15Speaker 5: Just?
- 53:16Speaker 3: Where are we at with it?
- 53:17Speaker 5: I like your word toxic more so than downhill. But
- 53:24Speaker 5: the hugest problem that I see from my perspective. And
- 53:30Speaker 5: and please take this personally if it's you, Okay, please
- 53:33Speaker 5: take it personally, Okay, please please, we've just lost our
- 53:39Speaker 5: minds about around football, whether we whether we coach, whether
- 53:45Speaker 5: we're fans wherever, wherever you sit that's not on the field,
- 53:51Speaker 5: don't have the whistle, don't have the hat. And you're
- 53:56Speaker 5: talking about fans to administrat it, all that, all of it,
- 53:59Speaker 5: we've just we just lost our mind because we love
- 54:03Speaker 5: it so much. There's a there's a there's we love
- 54:05Speaker 5: football so much that we don't care about the kids.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Yeah, we don't. We don't care about the young kids.
- 54:11Speaker 5: We want to win. We and and when I say that,
- 54:16Speaker 5: I want my little group of kids to win. I
- 54:19Speaker 5: want South Charleston Youth Football to win. But I'm not
- 54:22Speaker 5: gonna treat them or nor am I going to go
- 54:25Speaker 5: crazy when they lose, Like I want them to have
- 54:29Speaker 5: the best experience possible or makeup stuff to just just
- 54:33Speaker 5: just make up a whole bunch of stuff, and it
- 54:34Speaker 5: just ends up cloud and the whole situation.
- 54:37Speaker 3: This is what I know.
- 54:39Speaker 5: Mayor Frank Mullins, he supports you sports funds you sports
- 54:45Speaker 5: through the South Charleston Rec Center for the sole purpose
- 54:49Speaker 5: for kids to have activities, have development, and to have
- 54:55Speaker 5: something to do. Yeah, so when they're playing football, when
- 54:59Speaker 5: they're playing basketball, when they're doing those kinds of things,
- 55:02Speaker 5: they're off the street exactly having fun. I don't want
- 55:06Speaker 5: anybody to get in the way of that. I don't
- 55:10Speaker 5: want that to turn toxic. Whether it's the coach who's
- 55:15Speaker 5: toxic because he wants to win, whether it's the parent
- 55:17Speaker 5: who's toxic because she wants her son to play, any
- 55:21Speaker 5: of that.
- 55:22Speaker 3: I think West.
- 55:23Speaker 5: Virginia we've overstepped our bounds in where we think we
- 55:28Speaker 5: can be, what we think we can do, what we
- 55:32Speaker 5: can control.
- 55:32Speaker 7: In the sports spear, we've we've forgotten how to celebrate
- 55:38Speaker 7: the small.
- 55:38Speaker 3: One, the participation that well just here, like what we were.
- 55:42Speaker 7: Talking about earlier with with with coach Hough and this
- 55:45Speaker 7: past weekend, whenever Marshall won their game, their away game
- 55:49Speaker 7: and became Bowl eligible, and he was celebrating, he was
- 55:52Speaker 7: happy and and you know, you were talking about the
- 55:56Speaker 7: video that you saw and I think I saw parts
- 55:57Speaker 7: of it too, but he was just he was he
- 56:00Speaker 7: was genuinely happy for his team that they're going to
- 56:03Speaker 7: a bowl.
- 56:03Speaker 6: And you've got fans scoffing at it like, well, everybody
- 56:06Speaker 6: goes to a bowl, now, you know.
- 56:07Speaker 7: I mean, it's not you don't celebrate the small victories.
- 56:11Speaker 7: We're not all going to be in that national championship.
- 56:13Speaker 9: We're not.
- 56:14Speaker 6: We're not that state yet. Well and and and if
- 56:17Speaker 6: it ever.
- 56:17Speaker 5: Are and and and and not even let don't even
- 56:21Speaker 5: make it about our state. Let's just make it about eighteen.
- 56:24Speaker 5: If you look at Marshall, forget where they come from,
- 56:27Speaker 5: Look forget who.
- 56:28Speaker 3: The coach is. Did you see the players?
- 56:31Speaker 5: Did you hear the players' voices, how happy they were,
- 56:35Speaker 5: how excited they were?
- 56:37Speaker 3: Same on you if you're a Marshall fan and you
- 56:40Speaker 3: ain't excited?
- 56:41Speaker 5: If you, if you if you get that rare peak
- 56:44Speaker 5: inside of a locker room that very few people get
- 56:47Speaker 5: to at the college level to celebrate the win, right,
- 56:51Speaker 5: whether it's the only win you had, or if it's
- 56:54Speaker 5: a win that makes you Bowl eligible. And let's just
- 56:57Speaker 5: make the case everybody goes to a bowl and but
- 56:59Speaker 5: you you just became Bold eligible.
- 57:02Speaker 3: How are you supposed to? Good game? Guys? All right,
- 57:05Speaker 3: we're Bowl eligible and let's just get ready to go
- 57:07Speaker 3: to work next week. Come on, yeah, like, come on,
- 57:10Speaker 3: what do you want?
- 57:12Speaker 5: And do you think in far as even like what
- 57:15Speaker 5: happened is creating this like for a system where we
- 57:19Speaker 5: wanted more champions, we wanted more. Do you think that
- 57:22Speaker 5: sort of thought process spawned from parents and different things
- 57:27Speaker 5: of that, that you're saying, Hey, we can't compete with
- 57:29Speaker 5: martin Burg, we need another class so we can have
- 57:31Speaker 5: more championship. Do you think that like that sentiment is
- 57:34Speaker 5: pervasive even in administrative decisions.
- 57:38Speaker 3: I think I think that I think that there is
- 57:41Speaker 3: some of that happening, you know, But what I try
- 57:48Speaker 3: to it's it's simple, hollis just play right, just play?
- 57:55Speaker 5: If I'm not talking about that, I'm saying, do you
- 57:58Speaker 5: think that because of the nature of how we're moving
- 58:01Speaker 5: as parents and overstepping our bounds as far as wanting
- 58:06Speaker 5: to coach our kids in totality, that that that that's
- 58:09Speaker 5: kind of leaked into decision makers' minds to say, Okay,
- 58:13Speaker 5: now we have to do this because we have to
- 58:15Speaker 5: appease everybody, the players, the.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Parents, the fans. Oh, I got it.
- 58:20Speaker 8: I do.
- 58:21Speaker 5: I do think that there is there is this how
- 58:25Speaker 5: do we make how do we make it better? How
- 58:27Speaker 5: do we make everybody happy? But again, let your kids play?
- 58:34Speaker 5: But that's not where we are and that's the problem.
- 58:38Speaker 5: That's the problem, whether we want to own it or not.
- 58:41Speaker 5: The problem is is you got the dad yelling at
- 58:44Speaker 5: the coach over the fence. Yeah, yeah, you're yelling at
- 58:49Speaker 5: the officials. You're doing all these kind of crazy stuff
- 58:52Speaker 5: that does not create a positive experience for the kid
- 58:58Speaker 5: who who might love to play, but gets tired of
- 59:03Speaker 5: hearing that dad talk about how bad the coach is
- 59:07Speaker 5: on the way home. My dad, they never my dad
- 59:11Speaker 5: never said anything negative about a single coach I had,
- 59:15Speaker 5: and I ain't win a whole bunch of championships or
- 59:18Speaker 5: none of that kind of stuff.
- 59:20Speaker 3: Why did he not have anything to say with them?
- 59:22Speaker 3: My dad' stop process. It's you, you playing you the guy.
- 59:26Speaker 5: But I'm saying, in a modern environment, it's how do
- 59:30Speaker 5: you get how do we get around that toxical itself?
- 59:34Speaker 5: It has become toxic, very tight because people love the game.
- 59:38Speaker 5: They love it and it's only a find out amount,
- 59:40Speaker 5: just like basketball when you're playing thirty games, right, so
- 59:44Speaker 5: you can take some losses here and there. But I'm saying, like,
- 59:46Speaker 5: how do we auto correct? It's like, what's the solution
- 59:49Speaker 5: if we don't, If we don't fix you sports, that's
- 59:52Speaker 5: a good point. If we don't fix you sports, parents, guardians, friends,
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: family are gonna tearing up middle school football.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: And then if you don't fix it there, you'll you'll
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: you'll tear up high school.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: It's tore from the floor, and and and and and
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: and the reality to that is, don't worry about college
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: because it ain't happening.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: When you get to college, you shut off. You are
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: shut off. You get nothing.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: But I would even say this about college man, and
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: I love Prime. But they asked Prime a question about
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: as far as different teams that Shador and Travis Hunter
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: would go to, and he was He alluded to the
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: fact that he would potentially step in behind the scenes
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: and say, hey, don't go here, don't draft him here,
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: we go there. So it's like and again he got
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: the grace and the talent and the cachet to maybe
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: do that, but but we got other people who maybe don't.
- 1:00:56Speaker 5: So it's like, it's so it's going from all the ways. Well,
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: the question you to the festival, the question where the
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: question will be answered in that is really what Prime
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: does after this season. But it ain't about Prime. I'm
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: not trying to make it about him. I'm saying we
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: have parents now who have that same thought presses. Who
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: ain't you see what I'm saying, right, they have that
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: thought process from Little League all the way up, and
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: I don't and and and and at least I think
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: part of that is is because they think they need
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: to like they need to help the coach to work
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: with their kid. You know, now, you football, A lot
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: of coaches might have played high school football and that
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: that's the max that they play. Some of them may
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: not even played high school ball, but but they're out there.
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: They're giving their time. If you want to give your
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: time and get out there, get come on, but don't
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: do it from the bleachers.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Don't do it from the fence.
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: That's and that's where it starts. That's where's the where
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: it starts.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: And then I just wanted to add it a point
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: back to what you were saying. With the toxic kind
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: of feel where we're experienced seen here in West Virginia,
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: I think what happens with fans and with with the
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: state in general, both w and Marshall fans, is we're
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: comparing these newer coaches to the old coaches that were
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: in a time that didn't have to deal with nil.
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: Those coaches didn't have to deal with the transfer portal.
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: They could win because.
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: The playing field was a little more even than it
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: is now.
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: You know, we're not talking about just being able to
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: recruit a player because you're a good coach and you
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: know the school has has you know, character. Now we're
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: talking about how much money are you going to give me?
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: What?
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: What kind of contracts am I going to sign with
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: with if I come to your school? So comparing, you know,
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: it's like comparing apples and oranges, the down Neeland's and
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: the Bob Prewitz of yesterday that that did have winning
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: traditions to the Huffs and the Browns. Because they they're
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: in a completely different world.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: That's great that that's probably the point of the subject.
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: And fans forget that. I mean, I think we all
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: just want to win so badly, and do they remember
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: when we did?
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Do they forget or just do they just forget?
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: They forget?
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: I was gonna say, because I think there could be
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: the case that it's not even it's not even really relevant. No,
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: they forget, they forgot. As you hear that all the time,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: rich rid Back, I said that bring da Da Da.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: But it's two different environments. I mean, could could you
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: imagine what what what would be the chance of Randy
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: Moss staying at Marshall within I L no no chance,
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: no chance zero and and and and his future is
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: not gonna change. But the reality of Marshall's opportunity.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: Would have changed everything.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: Everything.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: And again you got a quarterback. What happened with Pennington?
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Would he had stayed at Marshall?
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: No, I mean that team would have been, That team
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: would have been. That team was loaded. Yes, it was loaded.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: And so there's no way that with n I L
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: they stay there. Yeah.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: So all right, well, I'm gonna make give another shout
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: out real quick before we end with h for frank
