- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Hey David, thanks for joining me. Thank you for having me,
- 0:07Speaker 2: but I appreciate it.
- 0:08Speaker 3: David Pollack college Football Hall of Famer and former University
- 0:11Speaker 3: of Georgia All American and former NFL player as well.
- 0:13Speaker 3: David Pollack dot com is the website you have a
- 0:16Speaker 3: new book, David, Every day counts.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Start where you are, use what you have, do what
- 0:21Speaker 2: you can. Be an anxious a publisher.
- 0:23Speaker 3: I have followed your career closely, as I've told you
- 0:26Speaker 3: before we started here.
- 0:27Speaker 2: What's the inspiration behind the book? We led? You don't
- 0:29Speaker 2: want to write this?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Well, first off, I'm a I'm a defensive lineman, so
- 0:34Speaker 1: writing is not our strength or our forte. And if
- 0:37Speaker 1: you look behind me Seaball Giftball, that's my podcast with football,
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's because you don't have to be that bright. So
- 0:43Speaker 1: I will say this, man, like really hard to write
- 0:46Speaker 1: a book.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was not easy. I had somebody ask me when's
- 0:49Speaker 2: the next one coming out? I'm like never ever? But
- 0:52Speaker 2: but Michael, it was more about like how could I
- 0:55Speaker 2: share my story? But but but my and it wasn't.
- 0:59Speaker 2: It's not my it's not my good stuff.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's more my my my down, my bad stuff man,
- 1:03Speaker 1: my challenge is the adversity, and and God's given us
- 1:06Speaker 1: a heaping, a couple of spoonfuls in our lives and
- 1:10Speaker 1: we're just we're thankful for it. So to me, the
- 1:12Speaker 1: book is really about, like how do you handle adversity?
- 1:16Speaker 1: How do you start where you are, use what you
- 1:17Speaker 1: have to do what you can with That means I
- 1:19Speaker 1: did it in football, I did it with TV, I
- 1:22Speaker 1: did it with my wife's you know, health, like we've
- 1:24Speaker 1: done with all these different things. It's really developing a
- 1:27Speaker 1: system man, of like you are where you're at, like
- 1:29Speaker 1: the and I use the analogy for a car all
- 1:32Speaker 1: the time, Like people want to live in the windshield
- 1:35Speaker 1: and live in the windshield looking forward. Some people want
- 1:37Speaker 1: to live in the rear view mirror. Like we want
- 1:39Speaker 1: to be in the car man, like drive the car
- 1:42Speaker 1: every single day. So it's literally some tricks, some some
- 1:45Speaker 1: things that some tangible ways that you can make every
- 1:48Speaker 1: single day count and we don't get stuck in the
- 1:50Speaker 1: future or stuck in the past.
- 1:53Speaker 2: We live in the present and we win in the present.
- 1:55Speaker 3: You're talking about adversity you have have gone through in
- 1:58Speaker 3: your life. One of those was your NFL career, you
- 2:01Speaker 3: talk about that you were an All American in Georgia.
- 2:03Speaker 3: For those who don't know, David wasn't All American in Georgia,
- 2:06Speaker 3: drafted in the first round of the NFL draft and
- 2:09Speaker 3: then had a career cut short due to injury. David,
- 2:12Speaker 3: for you, how did your faith help guide you through that,
- 2:15Speaker 3: through that moment in your life and what were your
- 2:18Speaker 3: emotions during that time.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think, just like anybody else, Like if you'd listened
- 2:22Speaker 1: to me from when I was six years old on,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was like, I'm gonna play in the NFL.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna play in the NFL.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And despite the awesome little little doubters I had and
- 2:30Speaker 1: awesome people that was like, oh that's cute, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 1: patcha on the head type of a deal. You know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I was able to make it come true and it
- 2:36Speaker 1: was awesome. It was great me and my wife. My
- 2:38Speaker 1: wife had married a first round draft pick, a big,
- 2:41Speaker 1: strong NFL football player, and like, everything was going the
- 2:45Speaker 1: way that I wanted to go, and then in one play,
- 2:47Speaker 1: one hit, one instance, it was gone. And so you know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: it was tough and it was hard, and you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: but your perspective changes so much when you know it
- 2:57Speaker 1: wasn't a broken leg. It was a broken neck. And
- 3:00Speaker 1: when you're trying to go back to some assemblance of
- 3:03Speaker 1: normal for a while, like I'll never forget man, Michael,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I benched two. I benched four fifty five in college,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and that sounds like a lot, but I promise you
- 3:12Speaker 1: that wasn't in the top twenty five at Georgia.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Like there's some grown people, like some grown people.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And when I got cleared two years after my neck
- 3:20Speaker 1: braces and my halo and my surgery, I benched one
- 3:24Speaker 1: thirty five twice and I looked like this, like and
- 3:27Speaker 1: so it was extremely discouraging. And so I think it
- 3:32Speaker 1: was about like, Okay, how do I make how do
- 3:34Speaker 1: I make today count? How do I win today? And
- 3:38Speaker 1: how do I goal set today? How do I set
- 3:41Speaker 1: my alignment for today? And so I think what I
- 3:43Speaker 1: what I learned was specifically the Bible says be still
- 3:46Speaker 1: and know that I am God. I didn't do a
- 3:49Speaker 1: lot of that in my life. I'm not gonna lie.
- 3:50Speaker 1: If I had an extra fifteen minutes, I was gone.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I was gonna go run, I was gonna work out.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I was gonna play video games like Go Go, Go,
- 3:55Speaker 1: Do Do Do people talk about it all the time. Hey, man,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I don't hear from God.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Well do you talk to God? Do you get still
- 4:02Speaker 2: enough to listen to God?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Because before that injury, for me, it was a very
- 4:06Speaker 1: transactional relationship with God. I got up in the morning,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I prayed to him, I had a meal, I'd pray
- 4:11Speaker 1: to him. If I got some more time in my day,
- 4:13Speaker 1: might I might holler at him?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:15Speaker 1: And then when your world goes dark and silent and
- 4:19Speaker 1: still and everything around you starts to slow down. It
- 4:23Speaker 1: was amazing how much when I got still and started
- 4:26Speaker 1: to build some rhythms and some cadence in my life
- 4:28Speaker 1: and talk to my father, how much he started to
- 4:31Speaker 1: talk to me, and how much he started to show me.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And man, that broken neck was a privilege and an
- 4:39Speaker 1: honor because it made me a better dad, it made
- 4:42Speaker 1: me a better husband, it had made me a better son.
- 4:45Speaker 1: At the age of twenty two years old, I got
- 4:47Speaker 1: more life perspective than all of my twenty one years
- 4:50Speaker 1: before on this earth, and probably one of the most influential,
- 4:54Speaker 1: impactful moments period in my life.
- 4:57Speaker 2: So how did that moment then prepare you for later
- 4:59Speaker 2: challenge in life? Those who have followed your career.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Know you were at ESPN, they've been downsizing. You were
- 5:04Speaker 3: one of the people who was downsized. Your wife has
- 5:06Speaker 3: also had some health challenges. Did that moment in terms
- 5:10Speaker 3: of not making the NFL do do an injury? Did
- 5:13Speaker 3: that kind of help you have the strength and the
- 5:16Speaker 3: character to go through those.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Other other adversities? One hundred million percent. Man.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I got my first adversity, like severe adversity at twenty two,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and then you start living again, and here's what you realize,
- 5:28Speaker 1: just like you, Michael, it's not if, it's when adversity
- 5:31Speaker 1: is coming. And the next adversity for me was a firing.
- 5:34Speaker 1: And listen, that was a really nice way. By the way,
- 5:36Speaker 1: when you said they downsized, Yeah, I got fired, super
- 5:39Speaker 1: nice way. I appreciate your politeness. But when you get
- 5:42Speaker 1: that call and you realize, like, hey, what you've been
- 5:44Speaker 1: working towards and your next iteration in life that you
- 5:47Speaker 1: thought you were made for, that like, this is my thing,
- 5:50Speaker 1: right and it's gone. So you have football, this is
- 5:52Speaker 1: my thing and it's gone. And you know, commentating this
- 5:55Speaker 1: is my thing and it's gone. And you know, the
- 5:57Speaker 1: older I get, man, the way less I worry about
- 6:00Speaker 1: what happens to me. I don't care about what comes
- 6:03Speaker 1: my way. I care about my response. That's all I
- 6:06Speaker 1: care about. Man. And so you know, as soon as
- 6:09Speaker 1: I got fired from ESPN, like I was very thankful this.
- 6:13Speaker 2: First message I sent out with mad like I got to.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Do something for fifteen years that was so amazing, Like
- 6:19Speaker 1: I didn't deserve that, Like I didn't.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I honestly I didn't even earn it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I didn't think I was worthy of doing it, especially
- 6:25Speaker 1: as fast as I got to be able to go
- 6:27Speaker 1: to college game day and do that. So you know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm the type of person. And we just sat in
- 6:31Speaker 1: our household the other day, actually my wife did. She said, literally,
- 6:34Speaker 1: we were hugging my daughter to my son last night
- 6:38Speaker 1: they lost their playoff game in basketball, and my wife
- 6:41Speaker 1: was like, what do you always say about don't cry
- 6:43Speaker 1: because it's over, Smile because it happened, right, Like I
- 6:45Speaker 1: got an opportunity to do this and to walk through this,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and so we've had some hard to walk through, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, it just it makes the fun, It makes
- 6:53Speaker 1: the joyful that much sweeter.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You mentioned serving football principles in the book that Motivated
- 7:00Speaker 3: Do You, including something called the fifty to forty ten rule.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Tell us about that and kind of how that applies
- 7:05Speaker 3: to everyday life.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well, I tell you.
- 7:08Speaker 1: What, man, and no matter what walk of life you're in,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and mine was football, So I like to use football analogies.
- 7:12Speaker 1: But like, fifty percent of the people that you show
- 7:14Speaker 1: up to work with fifty percent, if you show up
- 7:18Speaker 1: with a good attitude and you work your tail off,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you'll beat them. You'll beat half the people in this wall.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Like that is that's a really good start to doing anything,
- 7:27Speaker 1: to any kind of business, any kind of formula, any
- 7:29Speaker 1: kind of thing you're walking through. When you eliminate fifty
- 7:32Speaker 1: percent of your competition right away, that's a good thing.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So fifty percent is gone by being a worker, having
- 7:39Speaker 1: a joyful attitude and working. Forty percent is out detailing.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And so I'm specific of when I talk about out detailing.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So from my work, what that looks like. I can't
- 7:48Speaker 1: cover everybody's job, right, But like when I'm an NFL
- 7:51Speaker 1: football player watching tape, studying my opponent, getting an edge
- 7:56Speaker 1: on how do they like to use their hands?
- 7:58Speaker 2: How does X affect why?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Like watching all the guys up front, watching the running backs,
- 8:04Speaker 1: getting tells like how about nutrition, man, Like, you want
- 8:07Speaker 1: to talk about recovering at an elite level, training your
- 8:10Speaker 1: body at an elite level, getting sleep, continuing to educate
- 8:13Speaker 1: yourself on all the things that make you different that
- 8:17Speaker 1: can separate you.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So, now you've outworked.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Fifty percent of people by showing up with a good
- 8:21Speaker 1: attitude forty percent of people. You can out detail, and
- 8:24Speaker 1: you can outstudy, and you can use your your gifts
- 8:29Speaker 1: and you're wiring to gain edges and your competitiveness and
- 8:32Speaker 1: your mind and your mental acuity, and like, you can
- 8:35Speaker 1: use all that to get the forty percent. Well, now
- 8:37Speaker 1: you've got ninety percent that's walked through that, Like, you're
- 8:40Speaker 1: left with the last ten who can get hit and
- 8:42Speaker 1: keep moving forward? Man Like, who can take shots, can
- 8:46Speaker 1: take adversity can take Hey, I drew this up, man,
- 8:50Speaker 1: This is my proposal. This is what I want. This
- 8:53Speaker 1: is the job I want. This is the interview I
- 8:55Speaker 1: just went for. Nope, you're not good enough. You're not
- 8:59Speaker 1: getting the job. Like, okay, good. What's next for me?
- 9:03Speaker 1: What do I need to take away from this? Like,
- 9:05Speaker 1: how do I get to the next level? How do
- 9:07Speaker 1: I keep working continue to implement those philosophies man, it's
- 9:12Speaker 1: a unique way to look at things. But that's how
- 9:14Speaker 1: you eliminate your competition. That's how you become the best
- 9:17Speaker 1: version of you, which makes other people want to hire you,
- 9:20Speaker 1: want to be around you, and it makes you a
- 9:22Speaker 1: lead in your field.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Was talking about your own personal faith? Did you come
- 9:26Speaker 3: to faith the early in life? Did you come to
- 9:27Speaker 3: faith later in life? Did that become stronger? I think
- 9:29Speaker 3: you've already kind of said that. Did it become stronger
- 9:31Speaker 3: at some point as a young adult?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Well?
- 9:42Speaker 1: Man, I came to faith as a senior in high
- 9:44Speaker 1: school a very unconventional way, never step foot in the church.
- 9:48Speaker 1: One day in my life, my neighbor across the street
- 9:51Speaker 1: was like, hey, bro, we're having a lock in.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You want to come.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I was like, what does that mean? He goes, We're
- 9:56Speaker 1: going to go to the church and that they lock
- 9:58Speaker 1: you in for the night. I'm like no oh, and
- 10:02Speaker 1: he was like he goes, but he said, but you
- 10:04Speaker 1: get to stay up all night and they feed you
- 10:06Speaker 1: and you get to play games. I'm like, in and
- 10:10Speaker 1: it's the first time I ever heard about Jesus Man.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's the first time that that seed had ever been
- 10:15Speaker 1: playing it in my life. And then that led to
- 10:17Speaker 1: me starting to consume my Bible. That led to me
- 10:20Speaker 1: to a teacher that I had in my junior year
- 10:23Speaker 1: of high school, Mark Watson, who was a physics teacher.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And every day I came in, Man, I have a
- 10:28Speaker 1: very big spiritual gift, Michael, the gift of being annoying.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It's trust me. My family completely agrees with it.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But the way he handled me and cared for me
- 10:36Speaker 1: and was so so like just unbelievably graceful, full of grace,
- 10:42Speaker 1: full of mercy, full of positivity. I was like, something's
- 10:45Speaker 1: different about this dude. And he played praise and worship
- 10:47Speaker 1: music before before classes at a public school, and he
- 10:50Speaker 1: had a Jesus fish. I called him a Jesus free
- 10:52Speaker 1: And so for senior reading for outside for an outside book,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I chose. I'm like, hey, I want to read the
- 10:57Speaker 1: Bible and I want to figure out about the Bible.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And my English teacher said no, and I was like, well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I said, mister Watson will sit down with me if
- 11:05Speaker 1: I do and make sure I read, and she goes
- 11:06Speaker 1: if you talked to him, I said no, but I
- 11:08Speaker 1: bet he will and show enough he did, and he
- 11:10Speaker 1: took me through Matthew, Mark Luke, and John. And if
- 11:13Speaker 1: you are a new believer, please start in Matthew, Mark, Luke,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and John. Do not start in the Old Testament. You're
- 11:18Speaker 1: ed to start spinning in circles and you'll be just
- 11:20Speaker 1: really confused. But but I tell people, I love to
- 11:23Speaker 1: tell people Michael that all the time, because here's the thing.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Anyone can invite anyone to church. Anyone can invite anyone
- 11:29Speaker 1: to Bible study. Everyone has that capacity. You can let
- 11:32Speaker 1: the preacher do the work like anyone can do that.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So you out there to say I'm not I'm not
- 11:37Speaker 1: an evel evangelicist. That's not my gift. Okay, well your gift.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Can you can send a text message. I know that,
- 11:43Speaker 1: like you can send an invite and then two a
- 11:46Speaker 1: life worth, a life lived worth emulating like Mark Watson
- 11:49Speaker 1: lived a life that I was Like, something's different, and friends,
- 11:53Speaker 1: that's the most important thing that we ever do.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Like the way we live our life is the.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Biggest way we will ever have for anyone else around us,
- 12:02Speaker 1: because everybody's watching. And when it's different, and when it's
- 12:05Speaker 1: spirit fit led, and when it's joy led, and when
- 12:08Speaker 1: it's forgiveness and grace like people are like, wait a minute,
- 12:11Speaker 1: that's different.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Why why do you feel that way?
- 12:15Speaker 1: And so those were two things, man, that I share
- 12:18Speaker 1: with people all the time, like, that's why I came
- 12:20Speaker 1: to Christ.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And those are two things that we all can do
- 12:23Speaker 3: and all can control. Yeah, somebody invited you. That's incredible.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I assumed that you were a church going person all
- 12:30Speaker 3: your life. That's a great story, unbelievable, inspiring. We were
- 12:33Speaker 3: going to also talk about the fact that seems like
- 12:36Speaker 3: there's a revival of.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Sorts going on among athletes today.
- 12:39Speaker 3: You know, when I was growing up, there was Reddy White,
- 12:42Speaker 3: there was Kurt Warner, there was Tim Tebow fifteen years
- 12:45Speaker 3: ago or so, and now it seems like everybody's a
- 12:47Speaker 3: Tim Tebow. What has happened in the sports world, in
- 12:51Speaker 3: the football world as well, that there are so many
- 12:55Speaker 3: young men and women now proclaiming Christ unashamed and publicly.
- 12:59Speaker 2: What happened, David? I think a couple of things have happened.
- 13:03Speaker 1: One, we live in a world now where everyone has
- 13:05Speaker 1: access to a camera and a microphone. Yeah, right here
- 13:09Speaker 1: on the phone. Everyone has a camera and a microphone.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So and everyone feels like they need to know you
- 13:16Speaker 1: and who you are and what you stand for.
- 13:19Speaker 2: And so when you have people that are inquisitive about.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Who you are, what you are, what you stand for,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and you have a microphone and you have a camera,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I think it's just it's going to naturally come out
- 13:29Speaker 1: more and more. I do think people have been so
- 13:32Speaker 1: bold about their faith and our country's going through more
- 13:35Speaker 1: and more of a revival that I think it allows
- 13:38Speaker 1: others to feel safe to be in bolden to share,
- 13:40Speaker 1: because let's be honest, there was also a big time
- 13:42Speaker 1: in our country when we did share, we were looked
- 13:45Speaker 1: at like something was wrong with us, and we were
- 13:49Speaker 1: harassed and we were looked at in a negative light.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Thank God, things in our country I think have kind
- 13:54Speaker 1: of shifted and you're seeing all sides, whether you like
- 13:57Speaker 1: it or not, Like whether you like the green side,
- 13:59Speaker 1: the red side, the blue side, whatever side it is, right, like,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you get to see all sides in all types.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And so I'm very.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Encouraged man by the people that are willing to share
- 14:08Speaker 1: their faith and share it boldly.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And sometimes it used to be like yeah, like God thing,
- 14:13Speaker 2: God thing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I hear a lot of Jesus Man, and that puts
- 14:16Speaker 1: a smile on my face, man, because it's not again.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think for a long time, man, people thought that
- 14:22Speaker 1: Christianity was a rigid, hard set of rules and you
- 14:25Speaker 1: needed to do X, Y and Z, and I think
- 14:27Speaker 1: people are starting to realize, Man, it's the freeing way
- 14:30Speaker 1: to live.
- 14:31Speaker 2: It's not a captive way. It's a revolutionary way.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It's a freeing way that allows you to be you
- 14:36Speaker 1: and understand like, at the same time, you ain't perfect,
- 14:40Speaker 1: and I don't expect you to be perfect, Like, this
- 14:42Speaker 1: is not a religion of perfection, like there was one
- 14:45Speaker 1: that was perfect for us.
- 14:46Speaker 2: We were all messed up. That's why it took him right.
- 14:49Speaker 2: So I think it's been cool to see that shift.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Let's talk about a couple more things in your life.
- 14:55Speaker 2: You host a podcast, the Seaball Get Ball Podcast. Tell
- 14:59Speaker 2: us briefly about that.
- 15:01Speaker 1: To college football podcast, Man, college football is the greatest
- 15:03Speaker 1: sport of the planet to me. You know, we just
- 15:05Speaker 1: talk about football, and it's in a very different way.
- 15:08Speaker 2: No agendas. We don't do gambling. It's just not our thing.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Like we are.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We are going to talk about the game. We're not
- 15:14Speaker 1: going to talk about point spreads. We're gonna talk about
- 15:16Speaker 1: how much we love and who we think is gonna win,
- 15:18Speaker 1: all that good stuff, but we're not gonna talk about that,
- 15:20Speaker 1: And we don't talk about some of the other stuff
- 15:22Speaker 1: too when it comes, so we don't curse.
- 15:23Speaker 2: You know, my son one of the most proudest things
- 15:26Speaker 2: I am, Michael of my my son listens to my podcast.
- 15:28Speaker 1: He's seventeen, so it's kind of surprising that he would
- 15:30Speaker 1: listen to it. But I just love the fact that
- 15:32Speaker 1: I'm not sharing gambling stuff with him. I'm not sharing alcohol,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I'm not cursing all the time, like it's a safe,
- 15:38Speaker 1: family friendly thing.
- 15:40Speaker 2: But man, I just love ball.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I love getting my buddies on from college game day
- 15:44Speaker 1: to coaches all across the country. Like this offseason, we're
- 15:47Speaker 1: doing every new coach that took a job in the
- 15:49Speaker 1: power for every single one of them, and we're working
- 15:52Speaker 1: our way through and it has nothing to do with football. Michael, Like,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I'm literally like, hey, what makes you tick? Like why
- 15:58Speaker 1: are you sitting in this chair? Who's he's the first
- 16:00Speaker 1: person you called when you've got this job? Like what
- 16:02Speaker 1: do you do with your family? What's your family fun time?
- 16:06Speaker 1: You know? Like what made you you? Like just kind
- 16:08Speaker 1: of getting to know the guys on a deeper level.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So it's a lot of fun to do, and it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: kind of fun to control it yourself by being your podcast.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Absolutely Seaball Getball, that's the name of that podcast. And
- 16:19Speaker 3: finally you have a foundation, the Pollock Family Foundation. I know,
- 16:24Speaker 3: I don't know a lot about that. Tell us about that.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's me and my wife started at about twelve years
- 16:29Speaker 1: ago and it's evolved over time. But man, just trying
- 16:32Speaker 1: to find a way to plug into the community. We've
- 16:34Speaker 1: been given so much and so much that we don't deserve,
- 16:38Speaker 1: that we do not deserve, and we want to find
- 16:40Speaker 1: a way to give back.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And we do a lot of different programs real quick.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The one I'm most proud of we do it in
- 16:46Speaker 1: downtown Athens the Sunday of Thanksgiving every year and it's
- 16:50Speaker 1: called Banquet of Blessings. It comes from Luke, but literally
- 16:54Speaker 1: we bust in some homeless in the area in the
- 16:56Speaker 1: surrounding area and then all the needy comes in and
- 16:58Speaker 1: they get a home cook meal that can throw down
- 17:01Speaker 1: for ages and all the pies, the coffee, the collars,
- 17:04Speaker 1: everything that goes with it, and then they get to
- 17:06Speaker 1: walk through a line. Man, they all get brand new coachs,
- 17:08Speaker 1: brand new book bags, brand new books, toys, bull socks, beanies, scarves,
- 17:15Speaker 1: gloves like you just go down the line. And we
- 17:18Speaker 1: just want them to know, man, that people we care
- 17:20Speaker 1: about you, you loved, you matter. And all the high
- 17:22Speaker 1: school kids that I coach in football and basketball and
- 17:25Speaker 1: then we've coached for all these years telling them that, like,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you're not to blame for where you're at. Like I
- 17:29Speaker 1: told my son all the time, I'm pointing over there
- 17:31Speaker 1: to these kids like look at like you're just going
- 17:33Speaker 1: to a different family, Like that's the only difference between
- 17:36Speaker 1: you and them. They were born into something different, but
- 17:38Speaker 1: if you don't do something about.
- 17:40Speaker 2: It, you are to blame.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And so just being able to plug in and try
- 17:44Speaker 1: to make a difference man, and be the hands and
- 17:45Speaker 1: feet you know here in Athens, in our backyard and
- 17:49Speaker 1: across the southeast, that's definitely something that we're passionate about.
- 17:52Speaker 2: David.
- 17:53Speaker 3: As long as I've seen you on TV, you've always
- 17:55Speaker 3: been high energy and optimistic. Have you always been like
- 17:58Speaker 3: this or does that come from your faith?
- 18:01Speaker 2: I'm just curious about you personally.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, God definitely wired me this way. I've had some
- 18:07Speaker 1: people ask me like that, Like I've always been really
- 18:09Speaker 1: really high energy, and I've always been optimistic, and I've
- 18:13Speaker 1: always been very confident, borderline cocky, pompous, butthole definitely cross
- 18:19Speaker 1: that line a bunch along the way, man. But like
- 18:22Speaker 1: I think that I love to chase, I love to
- 18:26Speaker 1: go after goals, I love to dream big. I love
- 18:28Speaker 1: to work, and so you know, all those things kind
- 18:32Speaker 1: of come together and all your different passions, and man,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I never thought I'd do what a blessing to be
- 18:37Speaker 1: able to be an NFL player, a college football player,
- 18:41Speaker 1: to write a kid's book, to write a book, to
- 18:43Speaker 1: be on TV, to I just did a movie recently.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I've never done that before, like, which was really really cool.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It's a small part in a movie, but like I
- 18:51Speaker 2: love to do.
- 18:52Speaker 1: My wife says it all the times, like you just
- 18:53Speaker 1: love to have seven things going, don't you, And I'm like.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. I don't mind.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I don't mind working and being I'm busy and God
- 19:01Speaker 1: definitely gave.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Me plenty of energy. That's awesome. David Pollocks have been

- 19:06Speaker 2: Day Counts.
