- 0:33Speaker 5: That's the parmeter, Like if you're at a wedding and

- 0:38Speaker 5: couple of minutes and come back like nothing ever happened, having.
- 0:41Speaker 4: A fun time. Oh yeah, this was after the like
- 0:44Speaker 4: you know, I got it through the actual web.

- 1:24Speaker 9: deals buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Lots of pressure, having lots of pressure. Patriots Unfiltered here
- 1:32Speaker 4: on a Tuesday, just two days ahead of the draft,
- 1:35Speaker 4: and we're all by ourselves.
- 1:36Speaker 6: This is a first.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I know. This is like the real radio stations that decide, well,
- 1:40Speaker 4: it's vacation week, it's school vacation, so we're not going
- 1:43Speaker 4: to come even though it's a major, major sports news
- 1:46Speaker 4: week in New England. You got the playoffs going on
- 1:49Speaker 4: for the Celtics, you got the draft coming for the Patriots.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Everybody just decided I'm not going to work this week.
- 1:55Speaker 4: But but Evan and Paula here, we'll bring you to
- 1:57Speaker 4: the next couple hours for It's unfiltered. Not a whole lot.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I don't think has really changed in terms of what
- 2:06Speaker 4: most people feel about the direction that we're gonna go.
- 2:10Speaker 4: But I did think there was some interesting stuff from
- 2:13Speaker 4: Adam Schefter on Monday.
- 2:16Speaker 6: Yeah, sort of like a big catch.
- 2:18Speaker 4: All draft notebook kind of thing with a lot of
- 2:20Speaker 4: tidbits in it, some interesting items in there, anything in
- 2:25Speaker 4: particular stick out to you.
- 2:27Speaker 6: Well, I always go back to remembering I think it
- 2:30Speaker 6: was last year that Bill Belichick was on one of
- 2:34Speaker 6: his draft paloozas at some point in his media tour,
- 2:38Speaker 6: and he just said that the twenty four to forty
- 2:41Speaker 6: eight hours before the draft is when the real information
- 2:44Speaker 6: starts to come out, you know, all the other stuff
- 2:47Speaker 6: is really kind of smoke. And then we get right
- 2:50Speaker 6: before the draft and some of the reporting starts to
- 2:52Speaker 6: be more accurate to what is actually going to happen.
- 2:54Speaker 6: So I actually pay a ton of attention to what
- 2:57Speaker 6: comes out over the next couple of days. I would
- 3:00Speaker 6: agree because of that and a couple of the things
- 3:02Speaker 6: that stood out to me. Peter Schrager this morning on
- 3:06Speaker 6: ESPN Now on ESPN from NFL Network reported that the
- 3:11Speaker 6: Browns and the Giants are both fielding trade calls for
- 3:15Speaker 6: the number two and number three pick, and he mentioned
- 3:17Speaker 6: three players that could possibly entice teams to trade up.
- 3:21Speaker 6: Hunter and Abdul Carter are obvious, but he also mentioned
- 3:25Speaker 6: Ashton Genty, which I find interesting for the Patriots because
- 3:30Speaker 6: it stands the reason if Paul, if there's three players
- 3:33Speaker 6: that teams are interested in, could the fourth overall pick
- 3:37Speaker 6: have some value and be for sale if a team
- 3:39Speaker 6: wants to come up and get Genty as well. So
- 3:42Speaker 6: maybe the Patriots do factor into that. Could they trade
- 3:46Speaker 6: up a spot to secure one of those other two guys? Possibly,
- 3:49Speaker 6: But I look at it more as maybe a team
- 3:52Speaker 6: might trade up to four forget.
- 3:53Speaker 4: With you about genty because I think people have tied
- 3:55Speaker 4: him to Jacksonville a little bit at five. So if
- 3:58Speaker 4: you wanted to get in front of Jacksonville, obviously, who's
- 4:00Speaker 4: in front of Jacksonville at five? The Patriots at four?
- 4:03Speaker 4: I do, I do want to just let everybody know
- 4:06Speaker 4: Fred is just running a little bit late. He didn't
- 4:08Speaker 4: take the whole day off, so he'll be here and
- 4:11Speaker 4: until then, I'll try to hold down the fort and
- 4:14Speaker 4: stumble through a couple of things for you know, just
- 4:16Speaker 4: to get the bills paid and all of our you know,
- 4:19Speaker 4: all of our advertise is satisfied. Right, So remember this
- 4:23Speaker 4: is an in house one. Remember this one, Evan, because
- 4:26Speaker 4: you need to support the home team. Join New England's
- 4:28Speaker 4: events staff here at Jollette Stadium. Seasonal positions are available
- 4:32Speaker 4: in food and beverage, parking and security. Visit www dot
- 4:37Speaker 4: thecraft group dot com, backsplot backslash careers and apply today.
- 4:41Speaker 4: And who wouldn't want the opportunity to get left all
- 4:45Speaker 4: by ourselves on a radio show two days before that
- 4:48Speaker 4: the NFL Draft. I mean, that sounds like a great
- 4:50Speaker 4: opportunity to me.
- 4:52Speaker 6: It does sounds great, and you have a lot of
- 4:54Speaker 6: great jobs in the stadium on game day. You can.
- 4:58Speaker 6: We talked last week on catch training to you he
- 5:00Speaker 6: was a hawker, you know, walking around. That's what that
- 5:04Speaker 6: show checks with waters and uh and you know whatever
- 5:08Speaker 6: peanuts or whatever else they have to sell, So you
- 5:11Speaker 6: never know, could get involved.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Yeah. So I do think the Schreger thing, and you
- 5:15Speaker 4: just caught me up to speed on that just as
- 5:18Speaker 4: we were coming on the air. I do think there's
- 5:20Speaker 4: some interesting that this should be some interest in those
- 5:24Speaker 4: kinds of reports. I think Rabel said it last week
- 5:27Speaker 4: and is a week ago today his pre draft press
- 5:31Speaker 4: conference when he was asked about any movement, any calls,
- 5:34Speaker 4: and he said it's a little early for that.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:36Speaker 4: So now, as as Evan said, you're within that forty
- 5:40Speaker 4: eight hour window, I would expect things to sort of
- 5:43Speaker 4: start to perk up in terms of, you know, rumors
- 5:47Speaker 4: like that. And I would also think there's probably some
- 5:49Speaker 4: desperation on the part not maybe desperation is a strong word,
- 5:53Speaker 4: but some urgency on the part of Cleveland and the
- 5:56Speaker 4: Giants to sort of drum up interest in those those
- 5:59Speaker 4: two picks. Because because this hasn't been a year, a
- 6:02Speaker 4: typical year in my opinion with those picks have had
- 6:05Speaker 4: as much value as they've had in the past for
- 6:07Speaker 4: obvious reasons that we've talked about. But yeah, I would
- 6:10Speaker 4: imagine they're taking one last, you know, attempt to try
- 6:13Speaker 4: to see if they can drum up some more interest.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Absolutely, and and fielding calls is obviously very different than
- 6:20Speaker 6: actually making a trade. You know, last year, I think
- 6:22Speaker 6: the Patriots, we saw it on on hard Knocks with
- 6:25Speaker 6: the Giants calling for the pick. They technically fielded calls
- 6:30Speaker 6: about the pick, but it was a quick we're good,
- 6:34Speaker 6: you know, we're gonna we're gonna stick and pick here.
- 6:36Speaker 6: But it's always fascinating when the pick is not a quarterback,
- 6:41Speaker 6: like you know, you're not going to be taking a
- 6:43Speaker 6: quarterback at set number two or number three. Most likely
- 6:47Speaker 6: it's not. It's a non quarterback heavy draft, so it's
- 6:51Speaker 6: always interesting in terms of value what you can actually
- 6:54Speaker 6: get out of that pick. Now, obviously the further you
- 6:58Speaker 6: move down, the more you might get better in a trade.
- 7:01Speaker 6: But you know, I go back to that Will Anderson
- 7:03Speaker 6: trade a couple of years ago with the Texans, but
- 7:05Speaker 6: the Texans moved up nine spots to make that trade happen. Now,
- 7:09Speaker 6: that's a significant amount of spots to move up if
- 7:12Speaker 6: you're only moving up a couple spots and it's not
- 7:15Speaker 6: for a quarterback, Like, how much value does that pick
- 7:18Speaker 6: really have? Will probably ultimately decide whether or not any
- 7:21Speaker 6: of these teams move. But I looked at that report
- 7:25Speaker 6: again and I saw Genty's name in there, and I
- 7:27Speaker 6: think for the Patriots, that's almost the best case scenario,
- 7:31Speaker 6: is that some team is so infatuated with Ashton Genty.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I think we've got a visitor. Oh it's Aaron Sulkin. No, Aaron,
- 7:39Speaker 4: who do you have with you?
- 7:41Speaker 6: We can put him right in the middle here, all right.
- 7:44Speaker 4: All right here? To Mario Douglas, I only call you
- 7:46Speaker 4: to Mario, do you know that I think I'm the
- 7:48Speaker 4: only one in the media that because I don't really
- 7:50Speaker 4: know you that well, I don't feel like we're on
- 7:52Speaker 4: a nickname basis.
- 7:53Speaker 7: Now we can get there is nothing you know.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I know you don't know who I am because I
- 7:57Speaker 4: haven't been in the locker on the whole lot since
- 7:59Speaker 4: you've been on the team, even though I've been here
- 8:01Speaker 4: for a million years. But to Mario Douglas and a
- 8:04Speaker 4: very welcome guest here I was not a surprise guest. Yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 4: I didn't know. Well, they don't tell us. I wasn't prepared,
- 8:10Speaker 4: So so Evan was our I'm sure you know. Evan.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Hey, good to see it.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So what brings you by today? I know that there's
- 8:18Speaker 4: a start of a sort of a a voluntary veteran
- 8:23Speaker 4: kind of mini camp going on. Is that the sort
- 8:26Speaker 4: of the phase that we're in with the oas right now?
- 8:28Speaker 7: Me and a volunteer workouts?
- 8:31Speaker 4: And what's that process been like?
- 8:32Speaker 7: So it's been good.
- 8:33Speaker 10: You know, we got most of the team here and
- 8:35Speaker 10: I feel like everybody bought in and Ma and the
- 8:38Speaker 10: coaches are doing a good job, you know, teaching us
- 8:40Speaker 10: the new stuff and you know, taking care of us.
- 8:44Speaker 6: This is a new for you, I believe because the
- 8:47Speaker 6: first year coach and all that kind of stuff, so
- 8:49Speaker 6: you don't always see the voluntary mini camps. Is this
- 8:52Speaker 6: a little different for you this time around with with
- 8:55Speaker 6: coach Rabel being a first year coach at least here
- 8:58Speaker 6: in New England? And have you ever done of these before?
- 9:01Speaker 6: A voluntary mini camp?
- 9:02Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:02Speaker 7: Yeah, I did last year.
- 9:04Speaker 10: One last year, Yeah, I had one last year and
- 9:06Speaker 10: you know, because I had a new coach every year
- 9:09Speaker 10: since I've been here, so I mean I always been
- 9:11Speaker 10: here early.
- 9:11Speaker 7: But you know, I feel like it's it's good work.
- 9:14Speaker 10: You know, I'm getting to learn, we all getting to learn,
- 9:18Speaker 10: you know, to playbook early.
- 9:19Speaker 6: So it's good Josh McDaniels back as the offensive coordinator.
- 9:23Speaker 6: And I think one of the things that we all
- 9:24Speaker 6: think about when we think of Josh as the slot
- 9:27Speaker 6: receiver in your position, in particular playing in the slot.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Have you have you watched any film of past Patriots offenses.
- 9:36Speaker 6: I know you've done that before a little bit, but
- 9:39Speaker 6: just knowing his success with players like yourself, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 6: Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, How exciting is that to have
- 9:47Speaker 6: an offensive coordinator that that can use you like that?
- 9:50Speaker 7: Man, that's very exciting.
- 9:51Speaker 10: Man. I was, you know, I was happy when I
- 9:53Speaker 10: heard his name, you know, him being the OC, and
- 9:55Speaker 10: it's gonna be a blessing, you know, to have him
- 9:57Speaker 10: as the OC.
- 9:57Speaker 7: And I know what he does.
- 9:58Speaker 10: I've seen what he does with I meant while I
- 10:01Speaker 10: was playing with you know, Jacobi and man, he.
- 10:04Speaker 7: Just feel like he brings out that slot position.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Do you watch some of the obviously there's a lot
- 10:10Speaker 4: of guys that have had a lot of success, a
- 10:12Speaker 4: lot of production in that role. If you watch a
- 10:13Speaker 4: lot of those guys like Wes Welker and Julian Edelman
- 10:16Speaker 4: and Jroy Brown.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Yeah, most definitely.
- 10:18Speaker 10: As I you know, as soon as I came in,
- 10:20Speaker 10: you know, I feel like Bill made a clip for
- 10:23Speaker 10: me of all the top you know, they slots that
- 10:26Speaker 10: they had and I mean what they did good and
- 10:28Speaker 10: you know what they did bad, and you know what
- 10:30Speaker 10: they what they could fix. Well, they can't face them
- 10:33Speaker 10: a bit because they you know, they successful. But you
- 10:35Speaker 10: know he was just showing me, you know, the ropes
- 10:37Speaker 10: and how they became successful.
- 10:40Speaker 6: I know it's a long way to the season, but
- 10:42Speaker 6: is there any sort of goals you have in mind
- 10:45Speaker 6: or areas that you want to improve on this offseason
- 10:48Speaker 6: to potentially take it to the next level.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 10: I just want to push I say my room, push
- 10:53Speaker 10: my room to I feel like for us to compete,
- 10:55Speaker 10: the better one man is the better the next one
- 10:58Speaker 10: be as we compete.
- 10:59Speaker 6: You know.
- 11:00Speaker 10: So I want our room to be that that room
- 11:03Speaker 10: that brings the energy.
- 11:05Speaker 4: So that's interesting. You talked about when you want to
- 11:07Speaker 4: push the room. Do you feel as a third year guy. Now,
- 11:10Speaker 4: coming into your third year, you feel a little bit
- 11:12Speaker 4: more comfortable maybe with leadership kind of role. And how
- 11:16Speaker 4: do you think that that might you might be able
- 11:18Speaker 4: to manifest that, like and you want to push the room?
- 11:21Speaker 7: How so I just gotta step outside my box.
- 11:23Speaker 10: You know, I'm the person at least by example, I
- 11:26Speaker 10: don't really you know, talk a lot, you know, but
- 11:29Speaker 10: you know, I feel like it's that time, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 10: get out my box and you know, just start to
- 11:34Speaker 10: put my foot down, like, Okay, this is not how
- 11:35Speaker 10: I supposed to go.
- 11:36Speaker 7: This is how it supposed to go.
- 11:37Speaker 10: And you know, if I feel like somebody's slacking and
- 11:39Speaker 10: I know their potential, I'm gonna push them.
- 11:41Speaker 7: You know.
- 11:42Speaker 10: We have we have a good room right now, and
- 11:44Speaker 10: we're definitely competing, you know, and I can see it
- 11:46Speaker 10: in the room.
- 11:47Speaker 7: It's competition. I love it.
- 11:49Speaker 10: So like I say, the best, the best, the top
- 11:51Speaker 10: man is the best, the next man gonna be.
- 11:53Speaker 4: So you do have a new member in that room,
- 11:55Speaker 4: right Yeah, But obviously Stefan Diggs is newest.
- 12:01Speaker 7: Him and Matt Wilson and I met Wilson.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah, Mac Collins, but I just curious to your thoughts
- 12:07Speaker 4: of Steph. And you know, I don't know if you
- 12:09Speaker 4: knew him much before, you know, as a younger guy.
- 12:12Speaker 4: I don't know how much interaction you've had with him,
- 12:15Speaker 4: But what if your impression span of him and man.
- 12:18Speaker 7: Uh, you can tell he's a super vet, good vet.
- 12:20Speaker 10: And man, I when we used to my first year
- 12:24Speaker 10: playing the Bills against the Bills, that's when I first
- 12:28Speaker 10: met him, you know, and he was like, he was like, man,
- 12:31Speaker 10: I like a game, so uh, you know that first
- 12:34Speaker 10: game we played Bills was here. That was actually my
- 12:36Speaker 10: first game actually like breaking out as like that player.
- 12:39Speaker 7: Like everybody like, oh man, this get the kid can play.
- 12:41Speaker 10: And as I met that's when I met Steph you know,
- 12:44Speaker 10: on the field after the game and he was like, man,
- 12:47Speaker 10: keep balling. And then I feel like every time we
- 12:50Speaker 10: played Steph, man, I always ran into him and he
- 12:52Speaker 10: always gave me, you know, good advice. It's crazy that
- 12:54Speaker 10: we're on the same team now and now I get
- 12:57Speaker 10: that avice. I get that advice every day now.
- 12:59Speaker 4: You know, might be good at because I think you
- 13:01Speaker 4: had a pretty strong game against Houston too, right, Yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 4: So when Steph is on the field, pop pops up.
- 13:08Speaker 4: That's how it works.
- 13:10Speaker 6: It's true talking about that that Houston game, I was
- 13:13Speaker 6: Drake's first start and it feels like it's come a
- 13:16Speaker 6: long way since then. What have you observed of him
- 13:18Speaker 6: so far this offseason? I think there's been some maybe
- 13:22Speaker 6: from yourself at some of the events along the way,
- 13:24Speaker 6: that he's a little bit more. Uh, his leadership is
- 13:27Speaker 6: like starting to come out a little bit more here.
- 13:29Speaker 10: And his confidence, you know, his confidence you know through
- 13:31Speaker 10: the roof, and I want to keep it there, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 10: and that's by all us doing our job to help him,
- 13:36Speaker 10: you know, make it easier for him. But he's becoming
- 13:39Speaker 10: a good leader and he's more vocal than ever, and
- 13:43Speaker 10: in the huddle is different. You know, when we first
- 13:45Speaker 10: got there, it was like super fast.
- 13:47Speaker 7: He was like nervous.
- 13:49Speaker 10: But now when he's in there, like he says it
- 13:52Speaker 10: with swagger now, and that's how you know, he has
- 13:55Speaker 10: that confidence. And when somebody plays with confidence, they play good.
- 13:58Speaker 10: And that's what we need out of him, and I
- 14:00Speaker 10: know we're gonna get that out of him.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Was there anything that from his rookie season, you know
- 14:04Speaker 6: last year that you took him by surprise, took you
- 14:08Speaker 6: by surprise about Drake or something that you learned about
- 14:12Speaker 6: him just playing with him last year.
- 14:13Speaker 7: Man, he plays with tough grit, you know. Man, I've
- 14:16Speaker 7: seen him get hit.
- 14:17Speaker 10: One play he went out and I'm like, oh man,
- 14:20Speaker 10: he's out this game.
- 14:22Speaker 7: I'm sick.
- 14:22Speaker 10: I ain't gonna I was like, oh man, my boyott.
- 14:25Speaker 10: But then you know, he came back.
- 14:28Speaker 7: That was a hit.
- 14:28Speaker 10: Like we all like, oh man, he out for a
- 14:31Speaker 10: cussing for sure, and he came back on the sideline.
- 14:33Speaker 7: I'm ready to go. I'm ready to play for my boys.
- 14:35Speaker 7: And that shows a lot.
- 14:36Speaker 10: You know, that shows a lot that you know, he
- 14:38Speaker 10: got our back, so you know, we got to have
- 14:40Speaker 10: his back no matter what.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Really quick last question, what, uh you got any plans
- 14:45Speaker 6: for the draft on Thursday night? Or do you watch it?
- 14:48Speaker 6: Like how do you watch it? You all get together
- 14:50Speaker 6: or something like that.
- 14:51Speaker 7: Now, yeah, sey'all.
- 14:53Speaker 10: For the past these past years, I always had I
- 14:55Speaker 10: had a boy in there, so I have some people
- 14:58Speaker 10: in there, so I watched it.
- 14:59Speaker 7: I watched it draft to see.
- 15:01Speaker 10: My boys get drafted or you know, go to a team.
- 15:04Speaker 10: And I'm very supportive of the guys, you know, especially
- 15:06Speaker 10: from my hometown.
- 15:07Speaker 7: You know, not allowed to support.
- 15:09Speaker 10: But you know, I'm gonna be that support system from
- 15:12Speaker 10: my hometown for the guys that's that's making it to
- 15:14Speaker 10: the league as be.
- 15:16Speaker 4: You see all those wide receivers, You're like, yeah, we don't.
- 15:18Speaker 7: Need that guy, especially slot guys.
- 15:20Speaker 4: We don't need anything over here. So I appreciate you
- 15:23Speaker 4: taking some time to come down. It's a busy time
- 15:26Speaker 4: for the for the organization. You guys are busy doing
- 15:28Speaker 4: your on field work and your strength and conditioning stuff.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Obviously they're getting prepared for the draft. But thanks for
- 15:33Speaker 4: stopping by. Don't be a stranger from any time here
- 15:40Speaker 4: to Mario Douglas. I can call them pop now because
- 15:42Speaker 4: I I feel like I know him a little bit.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I know him a little bit. And even bigger surprise,
- 15:47Speaker 4: Fred kersh ladies just coming coming in the side door.
- 15:54Speaker 4: So yeah, I didn't I wasn't made aware that having
- 15:58Speaker 4: against Yeah, I didn't know that Tomio was was coming
- 16:02Speaker 4: to join us, but he was great. I talked a
- 16:04Speaker 4: little bit about the the mini camp that's going on
- 16:08Speaker 4: right now, sort of the voluntary veteran mini camp that
- 16:11Speaker 4: is allowed for first time first year of coaches, and
- 16:15Speaker 4: so that process is going well. Talked a lot about
- 16:18Speaker 4: the slot stuff, you know, and with with Josh, I
- 16:21Speaker 4: think Evan asked him about you know, like sort of
- 16:23Speaker 4: that that role. And Josh's offense has been really good.
- 16:27Speaker 4: So he'll give you the reads. Read. So I got
- 16:29Speaker 4: I got the Patriots one out of the way off
- 16:31Speaker 4: the top, so yeah, good, you can do Toyota and
- 16:34Speaker 4: the Patriots one.
- 16:34Speaker 3: What's the Patriots you.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Know, the one for you know, food and beverage and okay,
- 16:40Speaker 4: recruit recruiting.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Good.
- 16:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I remember talking to to I'll be taking the
- 16:45Speaker 6: rest of the show off now. I think it might
- 16:47Speaker 6: have been his rookie year, but he talked about the
- 16:50Speaker 6: cut ups that he talked about with us just now
- 16:53Speaker 6: that they gave him of Edelman Welker obviously, I believe
- 16:58Speaker 6: Trey Brown might have been his position coach at the time.
- 17:00Speaker 6: So there's plenty of Troy Brown stuff on there. Dion Branch,
- 17:04Speaker 6: you know, all those players that had played in that
- 17:06Speaker 6: role in the past. So it's exciting to see him,
- 17:10Speaker 6: you know, with McDaniels and see what maybe they can
- 17:13Speaker 6: they can get out of that role again.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Great. Yeah, but we get a couple of days out
- 17:18Speaker 4: of the draft and I know that Fred, you've been
- 17:20Speaker 4: We don't have to get to it right now. Okay,
- 17:22Speaker 4: all right, I know Fred's been working on the back
- 17:23Speaker 4: of the envelope. I went up and I actually walked
- 17:26Speaker 4: in on the research this morning, this very morning, I
- 17:30Speaker 4: walked into Fred's office and he was hard at work
- 17:33Speaker 4: coming up with his back of the envelope. Guy.
- 17:35Speaker 3: And I'm not done yet. Yeah, I've only I've done
- 17:37Speaker 3: about four positions.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Because you pulled a Paul in college and you waited
- 17:40Speaker 4: til the last minute. You're not ready, You're not prepared.
- 17:42Speaker 3: I'm busy.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Yeah. So Evan and I were talking about just the
- 17:47Speaker 4: draft in general and how it's starting to get to
- 17:49Speaker 4: that point where you're starting to hear well, the Giants
- 17:52Speaker 4: and the Browns are looking to, you know, move down,
- 17:55Speaker 4: and there are some teams that are required about moving up.
- 17:58Speaker 4: I think both Schefter and Albert Breer specifically cited Denver
- 18:02Speaker 4: as one of the very few teams, if not the
- 18:04Speaker 4: only team that has expressed interest in moving up.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 18:08Speaker 4: You know earlier this week, but now you're starting to
- 18:11Speaker 4: I think Evan talked about Peter Schrager had a report
- 18:15Speaker 4: that there's some interest on the Browns and the Giants
- 18:17Speaker 4: maybe being willing partners to move down, so we'll see
- 18:22Speaker 4: how that might impact potentially the Patriots.
- 18:25Speaker 3: So I was doing a little exercise driving in and
- 18:28Speaker 3: as you know, I have a long commute, so I
- 18:30Speaker 3: get to think a lot, and I know, and at
- 18:32Speaker 3: first it started like, why am I even thinking about this?
- 18:34Speaker 3: It didn't happen, so why waste time? But what you
- 18:38Speaker 3: just said, maybe make it a worthwhile exercise. And the
- 18:42Speaker 3: exercise is this, what if the Patriots had won that
- 18:46Speaker 3: I mean, had lost that last game of the season,
- 18:49Speaker 3: and they had the number one pick, and everything else
- 18:52Speaker 3: just moves down from there. Patriots, in my little exercise,
- 18:56Speaker 3: in that case, picked Travis Hunter. Okay, next up is
- 19:03Speaker 3: the same team that would be picking number one Tennessee.
- 19:05Speaker 3: They pick cam Ward and then I'm assuming the Giants,
- 19:10Speaker 3: who they would be third, now right, Cleveland would be third.
- 19:14Speaker 3: I'm assuming they pick Abdull Carter in this exercise that
- 19:17Speaker 3: I have. So now who's the fourth pick? And I'm
- 19:21Speaker 3: thinking through this exercise, you could find the person who
- 19:25Speaker 3: would want to move up into the Patriots slot for
- 19:29Speaker 3: that player, Like who who in everybody else's mind is
- 19:33Speaker 3: that fourth st we're picking camp Will Campbell because there's
- 19:36Speaker 3: a need there.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Right, And I understand what I'm saying. I understand your
- 19:39Speaker 4: exercise that you're doing, but I also think that you
- 19:42Speaker 4: you might be missing a step. If the Patriots had
- 19:44Speaker 4: the one, yeah, you could say, Tennessee would just sit
- 19:48Speaker 4: there and say, well, obviously they're not going to take
- 19:50Speaker 4: cam Ward, so I don't have to trade out.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Oh, somebody would trade.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Somebody else might be interested in trading up at one.
- 19:55Speaker 4: You're right, yeah, to get ahead of Tennessee to take
- 19:57Speaker 4: cam Ward.
- 19:58Speaker 6: You're right, Tennessee to move.
- 20:00Speaker 4: No one can can get ahead of Tennessee and take
- 20:02Speaker 4: camp Ward because, as Evan pointed out before you you
- 20:05Speaker 4: joined us, Tennessee certainly seems to be locked in at
- 20:08Speaker 4: this point. They're taking Ward at one, so they're not
- 20:11Speaker 4: really interested in trading. Even though my good everybody Mike
- 20:15Speaker 4: Boganzi has let everybody know that they're open to anything,
- 20:19Speaker 4: it certainly seems like they've locked in on camp Ward.
- 20:23Speaker 4: So that that's how it would change. Someone might want
- 20:27Speaker 4: to trade with the Patriots that flie down, and then
- 20:29Speaker 4: it would depend on whoever the fourth team is. It
- 20:31Speaker 4: totally depends on who that team is okay. So like
- 20:33Speaker 4: if it's jackson if it's Jacksonville, I don't know, they might,
- 20:36Speaker 4: they might not. I mean, I don't think to your point,
- 20:39Speaker 4: I don't think that a lot of teams would take
- 20:40Speaker 4: Will Campbell at four. The Patriots have a dramatic need
- 20:43Speaker 4: at less tame.
- 20:44Speaker 3: So in my exercise, who do you think is the
- 20:48Speaker 3: player after Carter that most teams would want as really?
- 20:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I think just in this draft and the closer
- 20:58Speaker 6: that we get to the draft, I think you're here
- 21:00Speaker 6: more and more that there's three consensus blue chip talents
- 21:05Speaker 6: in this draft. He's one of them, and some teams
- 21:08Speaker 6: I think are trying not to reach on need at
- 21:11Speaker 6: the top of the draft. And if you're just gonna
- 21:13Speaker 6: pick the best player available in that spot, it would
- 21:16Speaker 6: probably be genty And maybe a team that's a little
- 21:19Speaker 6: bit more better equipped on the offensive line, feels like
- 21:22Speaker 6: they're in a better spot, would be willing to trade
- 21:24Speaker 6: up even now, you know, to fourth overall to.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Take going to be number five picked.
- 21:30Speaker 6: I think, yeah, I think, yeah, I don't know. You know.
- 21:34Speaker 6: The one thing that always holds up for what Jacksonville though,
- 21:38Speaker 6: is is that they have an analytics guru.
- 21:41Speaker 4: And totally new regime too, so you'll have a book
- 21:44Speaker 4: on them.
- 21:44Speaker 6: Yeah, but you know, Gladstone's a he's a Nert like
- 21:48Speaker 6: he's he's an analytics guy. So to take a running
- 21:50Speaker 6: back at that spot is probably not typically what you
- 21:53Speaker 6: would see them do.
- 21:54Speaker 4: This is what you're supposed to say.
- 21:58Speaker 8: But if I guess, actually, who is the best player
- 22:04Speaker 8: on the board for pretty much every team, if that
- 22:06Speaker 8: scenario were to play out, you know Ward, Travis Hunter,
- 22:10Speaker 8: Abdul Carter, the next best player is is Genty?
- 22:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and what about Tyler Warren? I think he's probably
- 22:16Speaker 4: a top ten consensus guy. Yeah, probably is no one.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I think it's the eye of the beholder. It's a
- 22:24Speaker 4: flavor for all of these guys. I think you could
- 22:26Speaker 4: say Will Campbell, Ashton Genty, my guy, Jalen Walker, you
- 22:30Speaker 4: know ty Warren. I think some people like the other.
- 22:33Speaker 4: You know, Coloston Lovelin better than Tyler Warren, you know,
- 22:36Speaker 4: even as a tight end. But I think that you
- 22:39Speaker 4: could ask ten teams who the other you know that
- 22:42Speaker 4: the fourth player is, and you might get eight answers.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So if we weren't picking fourth, and I think they're
- 22:48Speaker 3: gonna pick Campbell. I don't know, But who do you
- 22:51Speaker 3: think would be the fourth player? I mean, well, no,
- 22:55Speaker 3: I'm sorry. If we didn't pick Will Campbell, where do
- 22:58Speaker 3: you think Will Campbell would go?
- 23:01Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a good question. I think there's a case
- 23:04Speaker 6: to be made that he would slide a little bit
- 23:07Speaker 6: if if the Patriots weren't in the position that they're in.
- 23:10Speaker 6: I think there certainly.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Would be a spot that he could go to the
- 23:13Speaker 4: Jets right the seven seven.
- 23:15Speaker 6: The Jets, they have a left tackle. You know, they'd
- 23:17Speaker 6: be drafting him to pay the right side, I suppose,
- 23:20Speaker 6: or maybe even left guard.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Yeah, they might not be as disappointed if you had
- 23:24Speaker 4: to play guard.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I could see that. You know, I could still
- 23:28Speaker 6: depending on what happens with Colton Miller and all that
- 23:31Speaker 6: in Vegas, Like maybe the Raiders would still take him.
- 23:34Speaker 6: But the Saints I think are another team. You know,
- 23:38Speaker 6: Telusi Fugalo is really a right tackle who they drafted
- 23:41Speaker 6: last year in the first round, so you know, he
- 23:43Speaker 6: goes back to his natural spot at right tackle. Campbell
- 23:46Speaker 6: goes in at left tackle. But I think there's a
- 23:48Speaker 6: chance to your point, Fred, I think is what you're
- 23:50Speaker 6: getting at that if Campbell didn't go four because the
- 23:53Speaker 6: Patriots weren't at four. You could be looking at eight, nine,
- 23:56Speaker 6: ten for Campbell and we'll go.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Big a picture, Shidoas Sanders doesn't go three to the Giants,
- 24:02Speaker 4: there's a very good chance that he doesn't go in
- 24:03Speaker 4: the first round, right, Like, that's how much it can be. Now,
- 24:06Speaker 4: it's a little different for a quarterback because there's probably
- 24:10Speaker 4: only three options, right, You're going from from three is
- 24:14Speaker 4: one option, nine to the Saints is two option, and
- 24:17Speaker 4: then probably twenty one to the Steelers.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Yeah, the Steelers seems three.
- 24:20Speaker 3: But the Campbell example is a perfect example of after
- 24:23Speaker 3: Hunter and Carter, it's really what do you need? Right, yep,
- 24:28Speaker 3: because they're so all of them are so lumped together.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, there's the point I'm trying to make
- 24:33Speaker 6: the whole draft is that the positional need, and I'd
- 24:37Speaker 6: also put positional value in there as well, is going
- 24:40Speaker 6: to determine a lot of these picks for teams Like there.
- 24:43Speaker 6: I don't think that you can sit here and say
- 24:46Speaker 6: definitively that Will Campbell is a worse player than Mason Graham,
- 24:51Speaker 6: or Will Campbell is the worst player than Tyler Warren,
- 24:54Speaker 6: Like I think you can make cases for either one
- 24:56Speaker 6: of those guys. I think it's kind of a I agree.
- 24:59Speaker 3: So they said that, you know, this is the first
- 25:02Speaker 3: draft that there hasn't been a first round trade.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Yeah, this is as late as it's the latest as
- 25:09Speaker 4: it's been gone. Every team is slated to pick in
- 25:12Speaker 4: their original spot.
- 25:13Speaker 3: And I'm thinking if the trade, if there is a
- 25:15Speaker 3: trade and it doesn't happen among that first three picks,
- 25:19Speaker 3: there may not be a trade in this first round
- 25:21Speaker 3: because everything is just well, they's so lumped together. There's
- 25:25Speaker 3: no reason.
- 25:25Speaker 4: That's one of those if we were doing this show,
- 25:28Speaker 4: say in you know Arizona or you know Denver, you'd
- 25:34Speaker 4: know the specific players that you're looking for and the
- 25:37Speaker 4: teams that are ahead of you that you might want
- 25:39Speaker 4: to get in front of. I don't know right now
- 25:42Speaker 4: who would be.
- 25:42Speaker 3: But is there anyone that that that is that good
- 25:45Speaker 3: that you'd be willing to give up assets to get
- 25:47Speaker 3: in this draft?
- 25:48Speaker 6: Yeah, there's definitely a lot of smoke connecting Denver to
- 25:52Speaker 6: Colson Lovelin. John Payton calls out the joker position in
- 25:56Speaker 6: his offense, you know, the move tight end, and I
- 25:58Speaker 6: think that Dave put out there at least that they
- 26:02Speaker 6: have sort of an infatuation with Colson Loveland and they
- 26:04Speaker 6: could be interested in moving up in the draft to
- 26:07Speaker 6: make sure that they get Colson Loveland. But to Paul's point,
- 26:10Speaker 6: I do bet. I bet there are teams that have
- 26:13Speaker 6: Loveland higher than Tyler Warren.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I think Schefter had that, I wouldn't be in his
- 26:18Speaker 4: catcher all grab back. He had some interesting things, like
- 26:20Speaker 4: he he had one he I think he cited one
- 26:24Speaker 4: specific GM that does not even have a first round
- 26:29Speaker 4: grade for any of the quarterbacks. Yeah, correct, And then
- 26:34Speaker 4: there was another one that said that Sanders does not
- 26:37Speaker 4: have a first round grade, but again that doesn't really matter.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Like I would, I would argue that there have probably
- 26:47Speaker 4: been a ton of quarterbacks chosen over the last ten
- 26:50Speaker 4: years that didn't have first round grades. Chosen in the
- 26:52Speaker 4: first round. You know, I'm not sure that all six
- 26:55Speaker 4: of those guys last year had first round grades. Maybe
- 26:59Speaker 4: they did, but I wouldn't be surprised if bow Knicks
- 27:01Speaker 4: didn't have a first round grade. But he got taken
- 27:03Speaker 4: in the first round, and so far he looks like,
- 27:06Speaker 4: you know, perfectly fine picked. I think quarterbacks often get drafted,
- 27:12Speaker 4: you know, ahead of their value for obvious reasons. And
- 27:15Speaker 4: we'll see if that happens to Sanders or not.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 4: The other thing that I think Schefter had was one
- 27:21Speaker 4: decision maker said definitively that Ward would have been seven
- 27:25Speaker 4: last year. Yeah, behind all six of the of the
- 27:28Speaker 4: guys that got taken.
- 27:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean what does that say.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I mean, like, I don't think there's any chance that uh,
- 27:34Speaker 3: Cleveland is it's smoking mirror, is that they they're not
- 27:37Speaker 3: going to pick a quarterback.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Cleveland's not going to take a quarter I mean the
- 27:40Speaker 4: first Tennessee, I don't know, it seems sounds like everything
- 27:44Speaker 4: is locked up at this point.
- 27:46Speaker 3: But like, do they feel like cam Ward would be
- 27:50Speaker 3: the seventh quarterback last year?
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah? But you know, so, like I'm okay with that
- 27:54Speaker 4: as long as he's good. Like bow Knicks was the
- 27:57Speaker 4: sixth he played pretty well. Yeah, so just because you
- 28:01Speaker 4: fall behind other guys that were successful, I mean, the
- 28:04Speaker 4: only one that didn't get to play was McCarthy, right, right, Yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 4: the other five showed.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Promise, so Atlanta still, No, he didn't play a lot,
- 28:16Speaker 3: he didn't play.
- 28:16Speaker 4: He only played the last month of the season. But
- 28:18Speaker 4: he but he looked like he knew what he was doing.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say that if you put cam warden
- 28:24Speaker 6: last year's draft, he's at least in the conversation with
- 28:27Speaker 6: the Pennix, McCarthy Knicks tier, Like you could rank.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Went ahead of Bonisis.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Yeah, like rank them however you want to rank them
- 28:35Speaker 6: once you get into that tier, Like he's clearly not
- 28:38Speaker 6: in the Caleb Jaden Daniels, and Drake may tier. But
- 28:41Speaker 6: I still think he would have been in the conversation
- 28:43Speaker 6: with the rest of those guys in last year's draft. So, like,
- 28:47Speaker 6: what would he have been? Quarterback seven? Like to maybe
- 28:50Speaker 6: to some eyes he would have been right like to
- 28:52Speaker 6: some evaluators he would have been, but I think to
- 28:55Speaker 6: others he probably would have been the fifth best quarterback
- 28:58Speaker 6: or maybe not over penn I think Pennix is probably
- 29:01Speaker 6: the one guy that would have been tough for him
- 29:03Speaker 6: to grade out higher.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Then, So again, you've said it before, it's it's not
- 29:08Speaker 3: a star draft, it's a starter draft. I said, it's
- 29:10Speaker 3: a blue collar draft. It's a let's just get to work,
- 29:15Speaker 3: you know, as I started looking into these players, I've
- 29:19Speaker 3: only done a handful of positions so far, there's depth.
- 29:23Speaker 3: There's depth that positions, especially edge.
- 29:26Speaker 4: I mean, and to your point, I think because this
- 29:30Speaker 4: is this is probably two classes at least worth of
- 29:34Speaker 4: prospects coming out because of COVID. This is like sort
- 29:36Speaker 4: of the I think you can get. You can make
- 29:39Speaker 4: a case that the undrafted free agentcy even will have
- 29:44Speaker 4: There'll be some talent. There's a good mix of talent.
- 29:46Speaker 3: We've been there for six years and then guys who
- 29:48Speaker 3: were too junior again.
- 29:49Speaker 4: And that's why, like I've been teasing Evan a little
- 29:52Speaker 4: bit about the whole starters, Like I don't really care
- 29:54Speaker 4: if they're starters. I care if they deserve to be starters.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Like there's no doubt the Patriot going to draft guys.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I heard on one of my stations this morning. You know,
- 30:07Speaker 4: they're gonna they need to come away with three or
- 30:09Speaker 4: four starters, And I would just push back on that. No,
- 30:11Speaker 4: they need to come away with three or four good
- 30:13Speaker 4: starters that you're gonna be able to do. You're gonna
- 30:16Speaker 4: want to give a second contract to that, You're gonna
- 30:18Speaker 4: want to have be the nucleus of your team moving forward.
- 30:22Speaker 4: You know, like this is I don't mean any disrespect,
- 30:24Speaker 4: but I'm going to put just names like of guys
- 30:27Speaker 4: who have started like last year, like daniel Aqualay and
- 30:31Speaker 4: Jilani Tavai. And you know that you know serviceable players,
- 30:36Speaker 4: hard working players, but you need to do better than
- 30:38Speaker 4: that they start by default, right, and that.
- 30:41Speaker 3: You want somebody who they out.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Who is those two third round picks that the Patriots have,
- 30:46Speaker 4: you know, at at sixty nine and seventy seven, can
- 30:49Speaker 4: they find two guys that are like worthy of like
- 30:52Speaker 4: displacing the people they're going to replace theming like that,
- 30:55Speaker 4: but they're worth it. That would be a home run.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I looked, there are one of six and there too.
- 31:00Speaker 6: I think the four.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Of those picks tored pick.
- 31:04Speaker 6: I think all four of those picks have a lot
- 31:06Speaker 6: of value in a draft like this because there is
- 31:09Speaker 6: a lot of depth, to Friend's point, in this class
- 31:11Speaker 6: in general, and like this is a draft like nerds draft,
- 31:15Speaker 6: Like this is a draft that Day two is probably
- 31:18Speaker 6: the most important day of the draft to the Patriots.
- 31:21Speaker 6: Take at four overall, they're gonna get a good player,
- 31:23Speaker 6: you know, whether it's Campbell, whether it's gent D whoever
- 31:26Speaker 6: it is, They're gonna get a good player at four
- 31:28Speaker 6: over member according to memboo Jalen Walker.
- 31:31Speaker 3: You know whoever, I'm surprised you want Membo.
- 31:34Speaker 6: I want Campbell. You know I have Campbell graded higher.
- 31:37Speaker 6: But I hear the argument for Membo. You know, he's
- 31:40Speaker 6: got the requisite measurables. He's a great athlete, you know,
- 31:43Speaker 6: basically the same level of athlete in the combine as
- 31:46Speaker 6: Will Campbell was.
- 31:48Speaker 3: But he's never played left tackle.
- 31:49Speaker 6: He's never played left tackle. But there are examples of
- 31:52Speaker 6: guys that have never played left tackle in college.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Oh, I know there is. But don't you think that's
- 31:58Speaker 3: that's as much, if not a bigger risk then Will
- 32:00Speaker 3: Campbell's arm measurement.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I would say, I would say it's similar.
- 32:03Speaker 6: They can kind of cancel each other out.
- 32:05Speaker 4: To me, well, but the other part of it is
- 32:09Speaker 4: they're going to need a right tackle too, Like Morgan
- 32:11Speaker 4: Moses is a stop day. He's thirty four years old.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I know.
- 32:14Speaker 4: I know if if it were, if they thought that
- 32:17Speaker 4: Membo was that much better than Campbell, I could see
- 32:20Speaker 4: Evans argument and just say, well, he's a better player.
- 32:22Speaker 4: We're going to take him even if he plays right tackle.
- 32:25Speaker 4: And I got to patch it together for another year.
- 32:27Speaker 4: I'm going to have my right tackle of the future.
- 32:29Speaker 4: That's okay. But if Campbell is better than Membo, then
- 32:33Speaker 4: you take Campbell's a left tack.
- 32:35Speaker 6: He's got a little bit of a higher ceiling. I think.
- 32:38Speaker 6: I think Campbell has a higher floor and is probably
- 32:41Speaker 6: a little bit more pro ready right now to step
- 32:43Speaker 6: in as a rookie h compared to Membo. But I
- 32:46Speaker 6: think Membo's is a length, his wings span, is athleticism,
- 32:50Speaker 6: like all of the requisite measurables that he brings to
- 32:53Speaker 6: the table probably give him a little bit of a
- 32:55Speaker 6: higher ceiling at tackle.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Specifically, My plan B for this draft, Plan A is Campbell.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Plan B is believe it or not, Tyler Warren and
- 33:05Speaker 3: then try like hell to get back in their first
- 33:08Speaker 3: round and take somebody like Josh Connery.
- 33:11Speaker 6: If you're gonna do that.
- 33:13Speaker 4: So I like your plan, and I think that the
- 33:16Speaker 4: thing that.
- 33:18Speaker 3: I think that you know doesn't I think get talked
- 33:20Speaker 3: enough about is the lack of coaching that the offensive
- 33:24Speaker 3: line has had over the last few years on this team.
- 33:27Speaker 3: And I think that's gonna make a big, big difference.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I think it's gonna give a chance for Caleb Williams
- 33:32Speaker 3: to have a shot here.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I believe that's Kayden Wallace.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Kden Wallace. Yeah, I'm mixing up the quarterback for the Bears.
- 33:40Speaker 3: But uh Like, I think that coaching has been lacking here.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And we've said it before. You don't need five studs
- 33:50Speaker 3: on the offensive line if they're well coached.
- 33:53Speaker 4: And I think the environment.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Here over the last few years was terrible. I think
- 33:57Speaker 3: the coaching was subpar, and I think that's really hurt
- 33:59Speaker 3: the offensive line. I think hopefully that will be corrected
- 34:04Speaker 3: this year with Doug Marone and whether it's Will Campbell
- 34:08Speaker 3: or Josh Connery, they're gonna get good coaching and that's
- 34:12Speaker 3: going to give them a shot to be good players.
- 34:15Speaker 6: I think it's a fair argument. I think that the
- 34:17Speaker 6: two things. I like, why not Genty at that point?
- 34:20Speaker 6: Like I would just take I would just take Genty
- 34:22Speaker 6: over Tyler Warren. But second to that, you know they
- 34:27Speaker 6: tried this last year trying to trade back up into
- 34:29Speaker 6: the first round to you need a partner to get
- 34:32Speaker 6: the run at tackle or receiver. You know there's reports
- 34:36Speaker 6: out there that was it was both. You know, one
- 34:38Speaker 6: some people say it was for a tackle, some people
- 34:40Speaker 6: say it was for a receiver, but they were targeting
- 34:43Speaker 6: a position to move up to do this last year,
- 34:45Speaker 6: and at the end of the day they couldn't get
- 34:47Speaker 6: the trade done, right, So you run that risk, you do.
- 34:50Speaker 6: But I think between Connory, Urcery and Simmons, you know,
- 34:54Speaker 6: there are three viable tackle options in that twenty to
- 34:58Speaker 6: forty range that you could probably get your hand.
- 35:01Speaker 3: But he may not be able to play right away.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Right yeah, and he probably won't be cleared until August
- 35:07Speaker 4: for football, So you know, that's that's tough for a rookie.
- 35:10Speaker 6: I think we're talking mid season before you see Josh
- 35:13Speaker 6: Simmons at best, you know, because once he's cleared, then
- 35:16Speaker 6: he's got to ramp it back up and he's got
- 35:17Speaker 6: to get in football shape and get coached.
- 35:20Speaker 4: And get nice that we can talk to Fred about
- 35:22Speaker 4: these guys now because he's done his research, he's got
- 35:24Speaker 4: the back of the end a little bit.
- 35:25Speaker 6: A little bit, I can tell that that he likes himself.
- 35:28Speaker 6: From Tyler Warren, he's mentioned him.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Well, I just think I'm just looking at needs on
- 35:32Speaker 3: this team and impact and I think, uh, he could
- 35:37Speaker 3: make an immediate impact. You know, I'm not saying he
- 35:39Speaker 3: could be Bowers from the Raiders.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Not that kind of player. Yeah, different kind, But.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I think he can make an immediate impact on this offense.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Yeah, he definitely could. I think that The questions that
- 35:51Speaker 6: I've had with Tyler Warren the whole time are like,
- 35:53Speaker 6: what is his what is his carrying trade? Like, what
- 35:56Speaker 6: is his elite carrying trade. He's good at a lot
- 35:59Speaker 6: of different.
- 36:00Speaker 4: It's just a football player.
- 36:01Speaker 6: He's he's I would even say great at some of them.
- 36:04Speaker 6: You know, he's a really good blocker. He's a really
- 36:06Speaker 6: physical receiver down the field and at the catch point.
- 36:10Speaker 6: You know, he's got some versatility certainly, you know, to
- 36:13Speaker 6: move around the formation and play from different spots. Even
- 36:16Speaker 6: played wildcat quarterback yep, some at Penn State.
- 36:19Speaker 3: But with a football players, but what is the.
- 36:21Speaker 6: One thing that you look at and you say wow.
- 36:24Speaker 6: You know with gent D there's an obvious one. You know,
- 36:27Speaker 6: his his contact balance and his ability to break tackles
- 36:30Speaker 6: is just next level like with with Warren, and I
- 36:33Speaker 6: just worry about the jack of all trades, master of
- 36:36Speaker 6: none thing a little bit.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Did you watch any They had a like a draft
- 36:40Speaker 4: special kind of thing on on genty over the weekend
- 36:43Speaker 4: on ESPN. Do you watch any of the high school islines.
- 36:46Speaker 4: I'm sure this one particular broken tackle. It's not even
- 36:50Speaker 4: just that, like you know, the production, but like he
- 36:53Speaker 4: gets you know, when you get like your legs sort
- 36:55Speaker 4: of chopped out from under you and like you just
- 36:57Speaker 4: go down like a ton of bricks. So he got
- 36:59Speaker 4: hit it and got knocked off his legs. But as
- 37:02Speaker 4: he was doing it, he spun and he was able
- 37:06Speaker 4: to contort his body all the way around and he
- 37:08Speaker 4: stayed on his feet. He put the hand down and
- 37:11Speaker 4: he remained on his feet despite the tackler really knocking
- 37:15Speaker 4: his pins right out from under him. It was like,
- 37:17Speaker 4: to your point about his ability to break tackles and
- 37:20Speaker 4: play through contact, it wasn't. I mean, I know it
- 37:22Speaker 4: was high school and he was obviously so much better
- 37:25Speaker 4: than the guys he's playing against, but he did play
- 37:27Speaker 4: high school football in Texas.
- 37:28Speaker 6: He's also doing it against Oregon and Penn State also,
- 37:31Speaker 6: so it's not like it's just those teams. Yeah, he
- 37:34Speaker 6: had more yards after contact than any other.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Running receiver in the I mean, next leading rusher in there.
- 37:39Speaker 6: Had totally rushing yards. Yeah, he had it more after
- 37:42Speaker 6: contact than anybody else.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Yep, it was over seventeen hundred and the next leading
- 37:46Speaker 4: rusher was sixteen hundred.
- 37:48Speaker 6: Yeah, nineteen total. Yeah, So if he's gonna if you're
- 37:52Speaker 6: ruling out the tackles, if you're taking Campbell and Membo
- 37:54Speaker 6: out of it, and you're forgetting about position to need,
- 37:58Speaker 6: I just don't know how you don't make the case.
- 38:00Speaker 4: You could make a strong argument that the next best
- 38:02Speaker 4: player after Carter and Hunter is Genty. Now I would
- 38:05Speaker 4: not necessarily want to draft him. I would go Jalen Walker,
- 38:10Speaker 4: but I can make an argument for Warren, I can
- 38:12Speaker 4: make an argument for Genty certainly all those guys. And
- 38:15Speaker 4: that's what I think. The intrigue of this draft starts
- 38:18Speaker 4: with the Patriots, because I think people are pretty confident
- 38:22Speaker 4: that the top three picks are going to go in
- 38:24Speaker 4: some order Ward, Hunter, Catter. But what happens next, I
- 38:29Speaker 4: think a lot of people could have different opinions.
- 38:31Speaker 3: I mean, if Genty ends up on the Patriots, I'm
- 38:33Speaker 3: not going to be complaining's you know.
- 38:35Speaker 4: And I have like a you know, I'm sort of
- 38:38Speaker 4: I'm tight cast and rightly so as the running backist,
- 38:41Speaker 4: like I'm sort of anti running, but I do feel
- 38:44Speaker 4: for them, like I've heard a lot of people say
- 38:47Speaker 4: Patriots can't take him, like they don't have the offensive line,
- 38:50Speaker 4: They're not in the situation. That's like a cherry on
- 38:53Speaker 4: the Sunday kind of a pick, you know, like Saquon
- 38:55Speaker 4: Barkley to Philly puts them over the top. Well, that's great,
- 39:00Speaker 4: But then I hear people say stuff like, well, if
- 39:03Speaker 4: I have all those other things, what do I need
- 39:05Speaker 4: the running back with the fourth overall pick for right? Like,
- 39:08Speaker 4: it's never the running backs time, I like, I do
- 39:10Speaker 4: I feel bad for the position?
- 39:12Speaker 3: Were always locks for the first round back in the day.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's an interest.
- 39:17Speaker 6: They're kind of in the middle because like the teams
- 39:19Speaker 6: that have taken running backs in the recent pass in the
- 39:21Speaker 6: top ten, the Giants was Saquan the Panthers with McCaffrey,
- 39:26Speaker 6: neither one of those teams had a Drake may Right.
- 39:28Speaker 6: So it's not apples to apples because when the Giants
- 39:31Speaker 6: drafted mccar drafted Barkley, they had a thirty seven year
- 39:35Speaker 6: old Eli Manning, Like, it's not Drake may Right. You know.
- 39:38Speaker 6: When the Panthers drafted uh McCaffrey, they had Cam. At
- 39:43Speaker 6: the end of Cam's run in Carolina. So there the
- 39:46Speaker 6: Patriots at least have Drake may to elevate that that
- 39:49Speaker 6: ceiling of the offense. But it's also not the Detroit
- 39:52Speaker 6: Lions taking Jamir Gibbs, because the Lions already had Penny Sewell,
- 39:56Speaker 6: and they already had Jared Goff, and they already had
- 39:58Speaker 6: Aman Ross Saint Brown, and they already had had Aiden
- 40:00Speaker 6: Hutchinson on defense, like they already had other blue chip
- 40:03Speaker 6: players on their roster that was already ascending at that point.
- 40:07Speaker 6: So Gibbs was the cherry on top to the Sunday
- 40:11Speaker 6: in Detroit. So the Patriots are kind of like right
- 40:13Speaker 6: in the middle. They have a young quarterback that's more
- 40:16Speaker 6: promising than some of the other teams that have done it,
- 40:18Speaker 6: but they're not quite the finished product that the Detroit
- 40:20Speaker 6: Lions were. So it's a tough spot to be in.
- 40:23Speaker 6: I think to take gent and make it work. You know,
- 40:26Speaker 6: they're not quite there, but you could see a path
- 40:30Speaker 6: if they can do what Fred was talking about of
- 40:32Speaker 6: trading back up and getting that tackle just.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Being a selfish I think that might be the pick
- 40:37Speaker 4: I would make, like for our purposes, like to talk
- 40:39Speaker 4: about to write about for excitement. You know, faned excitement,
- 40:43Speaker 4: like I hope get a stud running.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I hope in the early days of training camp when
- 40:48Speaker 3: it's just you know, helmets and shorts, that he practices
- 40:51Speaker 3: without a shirt on.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Okay, Mike, I think that would be fun.
- 40:56Speaker 6: I do wonder about you know, I went back and
- 40:58Speaker 6: watched some of his twenty twenty three As everybody says
- 41:02Speaker 6: he was a much better receiver in twenty twenty three.
- 41:04Speaker 6: You got to watch the pass catching tape from the
- 41:07Speaker 6: season before they used him more in that vein. He's
- 41:09Speaker 6: still averaged negative air yards per target in twenty twenty
- 41:13Speaker 6: three because they're throwing him screens, right. You know, he's
- 41:16Speaker 6: five foot eight, so like he's not like when I
- 41:18Speaker 6: hear the Ladanian Thomlins in comparisons, like la Danian Thomlinson
- 41:22Speaker 6: was a downfield receiving threat, like he could run routes
- 41:26Speaker 6: outside the backfield, down the field. I don't think you're
- 41:30Speaker 6: gonna get that out of gent.
- 41:31Speaker 4: So I have a this is a total aside, just
- 41:34Speaker 4: this Patriot centric now, you know, because that's I would
- 41:37Speaker 4: say most Patriots fans, media guys have put pass catching
- 41:42Speaker 4: back is a significant need. You know, it's something that's
- 41:46Speaker 4: probably gonna get addressed, maybe maybe late day two, but
- 41:49Speaker 4: if not in day three. Josh wrote that, right, why
- 41:53Speaker 4: is Antonio Gibson not an option for that? This is
- 41:56Speaker 4: a guy who was a college wide receiver. Why is
- 41:58Speaker 4: he not an option to be Josh McDaniel's past past
- 42:03Speaker 4: catching back.
- 42:04Speaker 6: It's a great question. I don't know. I've asked that
- 42:06Speaker 6: question a million times too about about Gibson. That's what
- 42:10Speaker 6: he's touted as. It's like, to your point, he was
- 42:11Speaker 6: a college receiver.
- 42:12Speaker 4: That's what he was in Washington. That's literally what he is.
- 42:15Speaker 6: I don't know. I think maybe they're looking for somebody
- 42:18Speaker 6: that can do a little bit more of both of
- 42:21Speaker 6: volume on early downs and catch the ball out of
- 42:23Speaker 6: the backfield more to push Stevenson.
- 42:26Speaker 4: I would think, yeah, I just I just, you know,
- 42:29Speaker 4: I was the more I've been thinking about it, because
- 42:31Speaker 4: I hear a lot of people talk about Trevor etn.
- 42:34Speaker 4: You know, he was talking to Mike Reese, my good
- 42:35Speaker 4: buddy yesterday, you know, and Mike brought him up as
- 42:39Speaker 4: a guy that would make some sense, and I agree,
- 42:43Speaker 4: he's That's what he was at Georgia. He's a good
- 42:45Speaker 4: versatile back that can get out of the backfield catch
- 42:47Speaker 4: the ball in that traditional style. I just why is
- 42:50Speaker 4: no one really talking about Gibson as an option in
- 42:53Speaker 4: that regard? Just sort of came to me. Yeah, I
- 42:55Speaker 4: don't know, And I'm not saying you can't have Gibson
- 42:58Speaker 4: and you know, just like you can and have Shane
- 43:00Speaker 4: Vereen and James White. You know, once upon a time,
- 43:03Speaker 4: you know, you had those kinds of guys.
- 43:05Speaker 3: I mean, I'm hoping for a couple of things with
- 43:07Speaker 3: this offense. One that Drake is that much better because
- 43:10Speaker 3: it's the second year.
- 43:11Speaker 4: And all the biggest one.
- 43:12Speaker 3: And again Josh makes them that much better because I'm
- 43:17Speaker 3: not I had no problem with AVP, but I think
- 43:20Speaker 3: Josh is a better coordinator. And I think those two
- 43:24Speaker 3: things elevate the guys that we had last year to
- 43:26Speaker 3: be to be better. And so maybe this year a
- 43:28Speaker 3: guy like Gibson does show you that, you know, I don't.
- 43:32Speaker 4: I think he showed me it last year. Yeah, Like
- 43:34Speaker 4: that's not enough though, well, because their offense stunck exactly,
- 43:38Speaker 4: but not because of him. He didn't have the ability
- 43:40Speaker 4: to be a pass catching back.
- 43:41Speaker 3: That's my point. That's my point.
- 43:43Speaker 4: But I think he does. He was the offense just
- 43:45Speaker 4: because they couldn't block.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he was squashed in that offense. He didn't have
- 43:50Speaker 3: you know, he wasn't given the opportunity to show off.
- 43:53Speaker 4: What he kept better. I just I guess I agree
- 43:56Speaker 4: with everything you're saying. I think the biggest key would
- 43:59Speaker 4: be you need Rake May to make the year or
- 44:01Speaker 4: two jump. But the problems with the offense last year,
- 44:05Speaker 4: to me, started in Like you can say I like
- 44:09Speaker 4: dalex Van Pelt, I didn't like him.
- 44:11Speaker 3: I didn't like to play problem years ago.
- 44:13Speaker 6: It was all about.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Their inability to block anybody. And if that's the case
- 44:17Speaker 4: this year again, I don't care what Josh McDaniels does,
- 44:19Speaker 4: it's not going to be that much better.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Well, I you know, I add Doug Maron into that mix.
- 44:23Speaker 3: As I started the show.
- 44:24Speaker 4: I'm saying, if they can't block anybody, I don't care
- 44:26Speaker 4: who's coaching.
- 44:27Speaker 3: I know, well no, but I'm hoping the coaching helps that.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it just block for him.
- 44:33Speaker 6: You have a tough time getting there with the improvement
- 44:36Speaker 6: on the offensive line without a real investment at left tackle.
- 44:39Speaker 6: Like if they come out of this draft with one
- 44:41Speaker 6: of those left tackles, even at the top of the
- 44:43Speaker 6: second rounding and Nursery Connorley, someone like that, I would feel, Okay,
- 44:48Speaker 6: they have a young guy in a pipeline. And if
- 44:50Speaker 6: you tell me that.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Whoever they come out with, like you said, well, that's
- 44:54Speaker 4: a vast improvement over last year, Like Ursery would be
- 44:57Speaker 4: an improvement over Vederian Loan. Yeah, Demontre Jacobs, you know.
- 45:02Speaker 4: And so now you have Morgan Moses and Ursery or
- 45:05Speaker 4: Connery or Campbell, that should be an upgrade. So like
- 45:11Speaker 4: whether the coaching is better or not, you have better
- 45:13Speaker 4: players blocking sure you should be better because of that.
- 45:16Speaker 4: And now you have to hope Drake may has made
- 45:18Speaker 4: the progression. And you know, we just had to Mario
- 45:21Speaker 4: Douglas in here. Maybe he does that. Josh McDaniel's thing.
- 45:25Speaker 4: This is where I would put coaching into it, because
- 45:26Speaker 4: I think that the system that Josh wants to run
- 45:29Speaker 4: is going to accentuate that maybe he turns out to be,
- 45:33Speaker 4: you know, more of a volume kind of guy. And
- 45:35Speaker 4: then you know, this gets us to something else that
- 45:38Speaker 4: we I don't know if you caught this. Evan and
- 45:40Speaker 4: I talked about this off air a little bit. That
- 45:42Speaker 4: whole Adam schefter grab bag of the draft bunch of tidbits.
- 45:47Speaker 4: He had some young players around the league that could
- 45:49Speaker 4: be on the trading block, and he had some veterans
- 45:52Speaker 4: around the league that could be on the trading block.
- 45:54Speaker 4: As an example for a veteran, right, he had Kashawan
- 45:57Speaker 4: Boody as a young guy that might be expendable for
- 45:59Speaker 4: the Patriots, which tells me that there's probably some smoke
- 46:02Speaker 4: where there's fire there. Evanth and I kind of agree
- 46:05Speaker 4: that it's a little too quick if that's the case,
- 46:09Speaker 4: if they're looking to move on from him. Now. Now,
- 46:12Speaker 4: I don't know what's going to happen Thursday, Friday, you know,
- 46:15Speaker 4: more likely Friday might change my mind. But why would
- 46:18Speaker 4: he be the do you think the first one?
- 46:20Speaker 3: Well, if Booty's the guy that gets you the asset
- 46:22Speaker 3: that allows you to move back up into the first round, then.
- 46:25Speaker 4: Yeah, well okay, like let's what what are we doing?
- 46:29Speaker 3: Well, like, what if you can get a third for Booty?
- 46:31Speaker 3: You can't, Okay, then I think it's too fast. But
- 46:35Speaker 3: that's let's just say it's too quick.
- 46:37Speaker 4: But let's just operate under the premise, and you know what,
- 46:39Speaker 4: let me stop being so snarky, let's operate under the
- 46:43Speaker 4: assumption that you're getting a Day three pick swap for
- 46:49Speaker 4: Kayshawn boot Like. I don't think they have a wide
- 46:50Speaker 4: receiver that they could deal that could get you with
- 46:52Speaker 4: third round pick. I don't think they have one, So
- 46:56Speaker 4: let's just let's just make that assumption.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Then don't too fast.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Yeah Like, And that was what Evan and I were
- 47:02Speaker 4: kind of saying, not that he I don't think either
- 47:03Speaker 4: one of us is in love with Kaishawan Booty, but yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 4: me played last year. He made some plays. I think Evan,
- 47:09Speaker 4: you put it like, oh, Iven, if you stick him
- 47:11Speaker 4: on the outside and just have him run go routes
- 47:14Speaker 4: every once in a while, you got behind everybody.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Don't you think that's why he ended up in the
- 47:17Speaker 3: grab bag? Is because other teams are like, he's not
- 47:20Speaker 3: that bad.
- 47:21Speaker 4: No, I think the Patriots are looking to move on
- 47:22Speaker 4: for him. That's how you end up in the grab bag.
- 47:24Speaker 4: But why, I don't.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Could be a little bit of both, But I think
- 47:27Speaker 3: it's more he got a little attractive, and he's the
- 47:30Speaker 3: guy that the Patriots might be able to get something for.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Maybe maybe they'll trade a fifth round pick for a
- 47:36Speaker 4: seventh round pick and move, like Evan said, can you
- 47:40Speaker 4: get another fifth round pick out of it? So they
- 47:42Speaker 4: have one seventy one right now in the fifth round.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Can you get another fifth round pick but one seventy
- 47:48Speaker 4: one they have? Yeah, yeah, maybe you can get another one.
- 47:52Speaker 6: What I wonder with Booty is just he's had some
- 47:57Speaker 6: hiccups along the way here, and is he he just
- 48:00Speaker 6: not a program guy? And are we doing that whole
- 48:03Speaker 6: thing with Kaishaan Booty where they just don't feel like
- 48:07Speaker 6: they're going to be able to get him to buy
- 48:10Speaker 6: into the vrable program.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Maybe maybe it's as simple as that.
- 48:16Speaker 6: I just look at what he did last year. It
- 48:19Speaker 6: wasn't anything eye popping, but he had six hundred yards
- 48:22Speaker 6: last year. That's six hundred more yards than the two
- 48:24Speaker 6: rookies had last year. So like, why why would kai
- 48:27Speaker 6: Shan Boody be the odd man out of him, Polk
- 48:31Speaker 6: and Baker Unless it's just simply because he has more
- 48:34Speaker 6: value than those two guys, and you're really buying low,
- 48:37Speaker 6: you know, selling you know low on those other two.
- 48:40Speaker 6: That would be the m I just don't really see that,
- 48:42Speaker 6: you know, he's.
- 48:43Speaker 4: Selling about as high on Booty as you probably going
- 48:46Speaker 4: to get and the other two guys have no value
- 48:49Speaker 4: at all because they did nothing his rookies, right.
- 48:51Speaker 6: But I look at the way that too. Josh McDaniels
- 48:54Speaker 6: has typically used the outside receiver, you know, take Randy
- 48:59Speaker 6: Moss out of it, and maybe Brandon Cooks for a year, right,
- 49:04Speaker 6: you know, Brandon Lafel. You know those types of players
- 49:06Speaker 6: like Booty can do that. Like Booty can run go
- 49:09Speaker 6: routes on the outside and get behind Derek Stingley for
- 49:13Speaker 6: fifty yard touchdown once a game, right, Like, he can
- 49:16Speaker 6: do those types of things. And if you're not going
- 49:18Speaker 6: to run the offense through the X receiver, through the
- 49:22Speaker 6: outside receiver and that's not going to be the volume
- 49:24Speaker 6: role in your offense, I think that he can be
- 49:27Speaker 6: the viable third guy in that pecking order. You know,
- 49:31Speaker 6: if it's Stefon Diggs and Pop Douglas and Booty, or
- 49:33Speaker 6: it's Stefon Diggs and a draft pick and Booty. Like
- 49:36Speaker 6: I feel comfortable with Booty being a low volume outside
- 49:41Speaker 6: receiver and what we know as the traditional McDaniel's offense.
- 49:45Speaker 6: So unless it's for a great value, I'm not ready
- 49:48Speaker 6: to drive Keayshan Boody to the airport just yet, Like
- 49:51Speaker 6: I think that he has a role that you can
- 49:53Speaker 6: envision on this team as a decent X like.
- 49:58Speaker 4: I do agree with us or I do. Yeah, I
- 50:02Speaker 4: just thought it was odd, you know, like even if
- 50:04Speaker 4: you were gonna say, okay, well, the rookies deserve another
- 50:08Speaker 4: year to see or at least an off season to
- 50:11Speaker 4: see if they've matured, and you know whatever, Pop wouldn't
- 50:15Speaker 4: wouldn't like Born be the guy to go.
- 50:18Speaker 3: I think so.
- 50:19Speaker 4: But because Kaishan BOUDI you could make an argument that
- 50:23Speaker 4: year three, he's an descending player. Kendrick Bourne, to me,
- 50:27Speaker 4: is what he is.
- 50:28Speaker 3: No.
- 50:29Speaker 4: I know, at this point in his career, he's not
- 50:30Speaker 4: going to get much better or worse.
- 50:31Speaker 3: That's why he might be the guy that's more attractive
- 50:34Speaker 3: to other teams.
- 50:36Speaker 4: I just don't think that that guy. Again, you're getting
- 50:39Speaker 4: a Day three pick. He's a sixth round pick. You're
- 50:41Speaker 4: getting a Day three pick for him.
- 50:43Speaker 6: I think that's the only argument, though, is that he
- 50:45Speaker 6: has the most trade value out of anybody in that room,
- 50:47Speaker 6: right because he's a young, descending player.
- 50:50Speaker 4: But he might but I don't think but I think
- 50:54Speaker 4: he probably does. I think Fred's right he probably does
- 50:57Speaker 4: have the most, but it's like, you know, Will Campbell
- 51:00Speaker 4: is the fourth pick in this draft. You know, it's
- 51:03Speaker 4: it's a bar he has the most, but I don't
- 51:06Speaker 4: think he has much value. He I would agree with
- 51:08Speaker 4: Fred that he probably has the most value out of
- 51:10Speaker 4: those guys.
- 51:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I get. I just look at him as different,
- 51:14Speaker 6: Like they don't have a ton of outside receivers, like
- 51:18Speaker 6: true outside receivers, you know, Kendrick Bourne, Jalen Polk, Stefan Diggs,
- 51:23Speaker 6: Pop Douglas, Like those guys are all kind of redundant
- 51:27Speaker 6: to one another. And Digs is certainly not coming off
- 51:29Speaker 6: the field once he's ready to go. So it's Born,
- 51:32Speaker 6: it's Polk, It's you know, those are the guys that
- 51:35Speaker 6: I personally, if you're gonna move somebody, I feel like
- 51:37Speaker 6: those are the guys that you would probably move, but
- 51:40Speaker 6: they probably have the least amount of value.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Yep. All right, Time for a break, sure, and then

- 53:37Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Patriots Unfiltered Extras Matist Baalmanoux Francisco
- 53:40Speaker 1: and Chris Cassidy, where we read leftover emails that you
- 53:43Speaker 1: guys are sent in from the previous show. So, guys,
- 53:45Speaker 1: we've some good stuff here on the show before we
- 53:48Speaker 1: had Hunter Henry so here, So we'll start. We'll start
- 53:51Speaker 1: with an email directly to Hunter Henry. Okay, I'm nice
- 53:54Speaker 1: from Anthony Hunter Henry, big fan. I just want to
- 53:57Speaker 1: say how thankful I am for you. You brought a lot
- 54:00Speaker 1: of joy these past couple of years and have been
- 54:02Speaker 1: one of the few great bright spots. Thank you for
- 54:04Speaker 1: always showing up and you are the next jersey I.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Get related that message.
- 54:11Speaker 7: Yeah, No, he was great on the shows.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Good We can get the players.
- 54:14Speaker 5: You know, he's been great the last couple of years.
- 54:16Speaker 12: I mean he really has been one of the main
- 54:18Speaker 12: bright spots this season, like or not this season, but
- 54:22Speaker 12: all yes, sorry, really really dynamic player. He really throw
- 54:28Speaker 12: the ball to any point, he's gonna make it play.
- 54:31Speaker 12: And that's what you need.
- 54:33Speaker 1: There's a there is a point if you're like on
- 54:34Speaker 1: the content team and you're in the end zone, within
- 54:37Speaker 1: like a ten yard, there.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Was a good chance Hunter Henry's gonna catch the ball.
- 54:40Speaker 5: Yes, and you were just tracking Hunters just where he
- 54:42Speaker 5: ended up. Getting your phone.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Ready, just stay within the whole time, all right. Subject
- 54:47Speaker 1: title discuss amongst yourselves Game of Thrones, Starbucks coffee cut
- 54:51Speaker 1: Darren from Saint Stephen.
- 54:53Speaker 5: So I walked into Thursday Shows late. I was at
- 54:56Speaker 5: a community event and I walk in and they're literally
- 54:58Speaker 5: talking about Game of and I was like, I don't
- 55:00Speaker 5: know how we got here, but I'm glad we're here.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I was ready to go.
- 55:04Speaker 12: The theme of the show was just show ending, and
- 55:06Speaker 12: they started talking about Came of Thrones in bulk.
- 55:10Speaker 5: Yeah, specifically they want us talk about the Starbucks. I
- 55:13Speaker 5: assume that ended up in the show in the fire accident.
- 55:16Speaker 1: By accident in Middle Ages. There's a Starbucks coming.
- 55:20Speaker 3: Maybe there was a Starbucks there, there was not a Starbucks.
- 55:23Speaker 5: You say that there was not a Starbucks in King's
- 55:26Speaker 5: Landing to this just kind of goes back to what
- 55:30Speaker 5: we all touched on on the show was that this
- 55:34Speaker 5: last two seasons or whatever it was, got rushed because
- 55:37Speaker 5: the show runners were really trying to get a move
- 55:40Speaker 5: on so that they could go do Star Wars, which
- 55:42Speaker 5: they got fired from Star Wars anyway, so it was
- 55:46Speaker 5: all for nothing, and it just like that's what I'm
- 55:50Speaker 5: talking about, like the level of just not caring that
- 55:54Speaker 5: they had with this show that, like, I can't remember
- 55:58Speaker 5: a show that just like Times stopped when Game of
- 56:00Speaker 5: Thrones on, it was the biggest cultural phenomenon of the
- 56:04Speaker 5: twenty whenever it ran into Yeah, obviously it spanned from
- 56:10Speaker 5: the tents and twenties.
- 56:13Speaker 12: I mean the show itself was amazing. I am not
- 56:16Speaker 12: a season ending eight. I don't think it was that bad.
- 56:20Speaker 3: It was people on it. I think people think it
- 56:24Speaker 3: ended correctly.
- 56:25Speaker 12: Literally, I think it ended correctly like the show the
- 56:28Speaker 12: show needed to end with friend.
- 56:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I think the big thing is that they did a
- 56:33Speaker 1: table read and I forget the character's name.
- 56:36Speaker 3: He threw the script and discussed did the table reading.
- 56:39Speaker 5: I didn't realize that, but I mean it just goes
- 56:42Speaker 5: back to.
- 56:44Speaker 7: It got rushed George R.
- 56:46Speaker 5: Martin. He didn't get I'm not going to say fat
- 56:54Speaker 5: and he was no longer motivated to write the books.
- 56:56Speaker 5: And when you get ahead of the books, like there's
- 56:58Speaker 5: so much world building that it was inconsistent and.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Now we got dire Wolves recreating before he finished the book.
- 57:07Speaker 1: But let's get to the next email, because there's there's
- 57:10Speaker 1: some more Game of Thrones in here. Email from Ryan
- 57:12Speaker 1: from Watertown High Patriots Unfiltered Gang. I'm a big fan Patriots,
- 57:16Speaker 1: Fanson's birth and PU fans is the Dark Ages, post
- 57:19Speaker 1: Brady era. Love what you guys do, and especially love
- 57:22Speaker 1: with all you bring a different perspective to the game
- 57:24Speaker 1: and the team. My quick Game of Thrones take is
- 57:26Speaker 1: that from season one to season eight, episode three of
- 57:28Speaker 1: the show is incredible. Season eight, episodes four and six
- 57:31Speaker 1: were some of the worst three episodes of television and
- 57:33Speaker 1: human history, and the writers should have to take a
- 57:35Speaker 1: ten year hiatus from the entertainment industry just to think
- 57:37Speaker 1: about how they let us down.
- 57:39Speaker 3: I agree with them that I've got a question for you, guys.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna list some wide receivers that could potentially be
- 57:45Speaker 1: on our roster, and I want to hear from each
- 57:46Speaker 1: of you who makes your ideal twenty six to twenty
- 57:50Speaker 1: five to twenty six six man wide receiver room. Considering
- 57:53Speaker 1: Digs and mac Collins are locks. Here are the list
- 57:55Speaker 1: picks I list below. Current Patriots Pop Douglas, Kendrick bourd
- 57:59Speaker 1: jay In Polk, Kaysehan Boody, Javon Baker. Potential free agents
- 58:03Speaker 1: are Tyler Lockett on a one year team friendly deal,
- 58:05Speaker 1: Elijah Moore three years, eleven million, and then potential draft
- 58:08Speaker 1: picks are Travis Hunter, Ted McMillan, Agbuka, Jayden Higgins, and
- 58:13Speaker 1: Trey Harris. I think it's safe to say the wide
- 58:15Speaker 1: receiver room is still wide open and any of these
- 58:17Speaker 1: guys could be in the mix.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Thanks, guys, just.
- 58:21Speaker 12: I'll jump right into it. I guess I would say
- 58:24Speaker 12: with Diggs and Hollins being locked, yep, in that sense,
- 58:27Speaker 12: if Hunters available, if Buk is available, if they take
- 58:31Speaker 12: one of those first or second rounders type of guys.
- 58:33Speaker 12: I think that is when they will become locks. And
- 58:37Speaker 12: if that happens, you have to look at the guys. Yeah,
- 58:41Speaker 12: three and up is a lock in my opinion, I think.
- 58:44Speaker 12: I mean Booty is a Locke. I think Pop's a lock.
- 58:47Speaker 12: I think Polk is a lock. Ye, So that's three
- 58:49Speaker 12: right there. You have like the fringe guys are.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Bigger and you reach six.
- 58:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I think the fringe guys are Baker and KB.
- 58:57Speaker 7: I agree. I love Tyler Lockett.
- 59:00Speaker 1: I think he's a little on the older side, but
- 59:01Speaker 1: I think we got our vets with Hollins and Diggs.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Elijah Moore, I mean he was a high draft pick,
- 59:08Speaker 1: hasn't really hit his stride. I think I don't really
- 59:10Speaker 1: see it there. So I think what you listen is
- 59:12Speaker 1: spot on.
- 59:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I like it too, It's just I go about it. Okay,
- 59:16Speaker 5: is it my pipe dream list with Hunter even available
- 59:20Speaker 5: for us? Or do I play it more realistically? Going
- 59:23Speaker 5: more realistically, I think that's a scenario where Kendrick Bourne
- 59:27Speaker 5: is maybe still around, because how do you get Hunter.
- 59:32Speaker 5: It's just it just it seems like further and further
- 59:37Speaker 5: of a possibility of each passing day.
- 59:40Speaker 1: I think also like some of the guys we listed
- 59:42Speaker 1: could maybe be a trade candidate because I think Kendrick
- 59:44Speaker 1: barn stills a lot to give, So.
- 59:45Speaker 5: You know, for sure, Booty, I do too, and that's
- 59:47Speaker 5: why I'm not necessarily willing to turn the page. Whereas,
- 59:49Speaker 5: like I know that, I feel like a lot of
- 59:52Speaker 5: people feel like Polk is a lock, but like me, personally,
- 59:56Speaker 5: I just haven't seen a ton out of him, and
- 59:58Speaker 5: I know that only going to be a second year, but.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: I think that's that's I think the only logic behind it.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I think I think you'll find out some stuff pretty
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: quickly within the first two weeks of camp.
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: Yeah, honestly.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: But all right, guys, thank you for being on the
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: PU extras. Be sure to send in more emails to
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: podcasts at Patriots dot com because if they don't get
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: rid of the show, we'll read them on the halftime show.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: So let's get back to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: And now great moments in.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: History. So I do the thing where you see somebody
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: in their car they're about to leave, so you pull over,
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: put your signal line and just sit there. So this
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: guy in a big tesla comes up right in front
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: of me, starts giving me the hands like what what
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: I'm like? You know, mostly go around, go around. You know,
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: He's like, you wouldn't do it, wouldn't go around. Finally,
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: you know, he decides, oh, I'll go around. So he
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: goes around, but then he decides to do a pull
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: up roll down. He pulls up next to me. He
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: pulls the pull up, pull up, roll down and pulls
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: down the window. So he starts talk to me, and
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: I just say, keep driving.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: Just like that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: You have the kids in the backseat. I don't care,
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: but I just say keep He goes. We'll talk later.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: I know we won't, you know, by end of day.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: That was it. That's another great moment from all Right,
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Fun and Fun and parking lots. I was so annoyed
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: at that person pull up, rolled down. All right, we're
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: talking draft. We're gonna take some calls, emails. I know
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: everyone's been patiently waiting to get there two cents in,
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: So let's start with Patty and agawam, what's up Patty?
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I guess he's not there.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: These people have been holding on a long time. I
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: don't blame him. Dave in Florida what's up, Dave, David
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: and Florida. He's gone all right? Christian in La everyone's
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: favorite call table. What's Christian.
- 1:02:04Speaker 13: Call from?
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Might be the volume?
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be, but anyway, David and Bethlehem rites
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: into podcast at Patriots dot Com. He says Paul and
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Evan are glibally underestimating the difficulty of switching from right
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: tackle to left tackle. Most fail try shaving left handed.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Fred Astaire was a great dancer. Ginger Rogers did everything
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: he did backwards and wearing heels. Likely Membo has never
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: played left tackle because he can't do what you do well.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: I just want to emphatically state that I have no
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: interest in drafting Membo and moving him to left tackle.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: I would draft Membo as the right tackle at four.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: I said, no, I'm not saying that. I'm saying if
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: I were to, like Evan had him in his mock draft,
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: if I thought that Membo was better than Campbell, so
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I want to take the better player, I would take him,
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: and he'd be my right tackle of the future. Because
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: Morgan Moses is thirty four years old.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: My thing with tackles is a lot the same with
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: defensive backs. If you're a tackle and you can play
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: left tackle, you play left tackle. If you're a defensive
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: back and your play corner, you play corner.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: I can't argue with that, see what I'm saying.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: I never said it was easy or like that it
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: was a shoeing that he could do it. So I
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: don't know where that's coming from. I never said that,
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: But there I can see the argument for it. Like
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: if he if they draft him and they play him
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: at left tackle as a rookie, and it goes great,
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: then great, you have your left tackle. If it goes
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: poorly or not not so great, then.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: You guys have to right You guys have done it.
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: So it's just a case for it. I'm not saying.
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: This is why I would say.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: You know, and again, if you could play left tackle,
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: you tried to make the switch, and he could do it, fine,
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: But I'm okay if he can't, because I need a
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: right tackle too, right. That's that was my point. But
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: there's a there's a list of guys that played one
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: side of the Joe Walt played left tackle throughout his
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: college career. You played right tackle last year for the
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Chargers at an all pro level.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: Yeah, so, I think, But that's like going from corner
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: to safety. That happens a lot. No, rarely you go
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: in safety to corner.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: No, no, no, But I'm saying tackles switch sides. Most can't
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: do it. Some can't, I know. Ye.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I think it's easy left to right.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: There's not any easier than left right. I think it is.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: I think it is.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: It's it's. It might be considered an easier, like a
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: less important position. I think it's, but it's still everything
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: is backwards.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: It is, it is, But the mistakes aren't his glaring.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: I think it's a little easier to transition from left
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: to right.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: Yeah. I mean there's a couple of guys that have
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: done it from I'm getting my right and left confused
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: from right to left. Tristan WARF's is probably the ones
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: and most recent.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: There's always exceptional Tyron.
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: Smith Fred's guy did it too. He played right tackle
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: at USC and then went and actually played right tackle
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: to start in Dallas for a little bit, and then
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: eventually went to left, just like Worfs. Wof Worfs played
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: three full years at right tackle for Tampa Bay, and
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: then his fourth season they chained him to left tackle.
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: He was a first team All Pro last year at
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: left tackle. You know, we talked to Doug Morone was
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: it earlier this month, and he had a guy in
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: New Orleans who did it, Jamal Brown, who was a
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: first round pick by the Saints. He played right tackle
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: to start his career in New Orleans and then they
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: moved him to left and he was a Pro bowler
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: at left tackle. So it's all I'm telling you is
- 1:05:22Speaker 6: that it's been done.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Don't like it's this one. Did Orlando Brown play right
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: tackle at one point and then they're they're changed to
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: left tackle?
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: Very possible. The other one is Jedrick Wills with Cleveland,
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: who played right tackle at Alabama and then played left tackle.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: And my bigger point, like, just again, if member, if
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: you thought, if you have him evaluated greater than Campbell,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: the right left thing wouldn't be the by determining factor.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: It would be the better player. But I also would
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: just say, we've just given you a couple of examples
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: of guys who switched sides and done it well. There
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: are really no examples of guys with arms. And I
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: won't say definitively as short as will Campbell's because of
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: the discrepancy between the combine numbers and.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: The PRODA numbers.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: But there is no example of a guy who had
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: thirty two and five ahs inch arms or shorter that
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: has succeeded over the last twenty five years.
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: That's true if you evaluate the tape and I come
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: away from the tape saying Will Campbell's the better player.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: But if you evaluate the tape and say Rembu's the
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: better player, then to me, the right to left and
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: the short arms cancel each other out like.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: One is kind of how I would feel about it.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: That's why I would say I'm comfortable with Membo being
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: a right tackle if it doesn't work with Campbell, he's
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: a guard. Now, to me, there's a big difference between
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: filling the right tackle spot and then filling a guard spot. Yeah,
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: I mean I think the way again. My buddy Mike
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: Reese this morning said, well, you know, even if like
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: he wants to do you a sort of your double
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: dip thing. So if you get Will Campbell at four
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: and then are able to sort of squeak out connorly or.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: I don't want to double dip at the position.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Ursery, well, like, the worst case scenario is you know
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: the worst case you can't do it? Well. Yeah, I
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: suppose it was a very Patriots dot Com like comment. Right,
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: worst case scenario, Yeah, you should get two All pros
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: playing on the left side, though one of them plays
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: left tackle, one of them plays left guard, and your
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: offensive line is okay for at least the next five years.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: Yep, yep. Nick in Boston writes in to answer your
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: question from earlier in the show, Patriots don't consider Gibson
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: the answer as pass catching back because he's a bad
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: pass blocker.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: In my opinion, that's a good point. That's a very
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: good point, email.
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: I don't think this is a great pass blocking class,
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: to be honest with you, Yeah, he's right.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: I think Gibson does struggle a little bit. He had
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: some good pickups, but he does struggle a little bit.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: And that separately. Todd McShay said yesterday that teams he's
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: spoken to picking in the top ten are happy that
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Will Campbell is the pick at for so better players
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: fall to them. Please draft Membo, who is an actual
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: tackle or genty. I know drafting and running back at
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: the top of the draft is horrible, asked management, but
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: at least he has a chance to be elite. The
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Giants are used as the main example of white drafting
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: running back doesn't move the needle, but I think that
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: argument is missing context. The year before the Giants drafted Saquon,
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: their offense ranked thirty first, and then it ranked sixteenth.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: In Saquon's rookie season, the offense was average because they
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: had a diminished quarterback, but Saquon still provided a large boost.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: Well, I think Eli Manning was hurt the year before
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: and then came back and played.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Don't let facts get in the way. But yeah, actually
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: I don't. Yeah, I don't remember, because Eli was very durable,
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: but he played through Maybe he played through injury.
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: He had one season where he missed a lot of
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: games or missed some games, and it might have not
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: been that one.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: Because I thought macadoo ended his streak. Buddy Ben McAdoo.
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he had a consecutive from started streak and
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: then he decided to bench him late late in the
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: last time.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: Okay, I had my ears mixed up, but I don't
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: The emailer might be right about the rankings. I don't
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: know if he's using yards, points, whatever, but I don't
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: think that's the point. Is We're not trying to be
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: the sixteenth best offense right in the NFL.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: And I don't really care what the like the numbers.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: I want to win games and the Giants didn't win games.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Alex, I don't know what you're saying. Just say it.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: Oh good, yeah, okay, thank you, Okay, I'm just.
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: To go to them.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: I would just go, you know, does the guy lead
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: you to win games?
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: And I'm not saying don't take genty because he could
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: help your offensive. He's the best player then, like you know,
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: more power to you.
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think the argument for gent other
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: than him just being the best player, is that you
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: would think that there could be some sort of gravity
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: of him being on the field, where you get more
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: seven and eight man boxes, you get guys that bite
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: a little bit harder on play action, like he's the
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: vocal point of the game plan, like those types of things. Now,
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: for the most part, the numbers would say that, doesn't
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: it really I should.
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: Know the answer to this question. Ball security issues with
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: him at all in school college.
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: He had four fumbles last year. I mean, the game
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: against Penn State wasn't good, but I think a lot
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: of that was I'm trying to break six tackles to,
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: you know, make this run happen. And I'm you know,
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: he gets stripped like towards the end of the run,
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: kind of like Remondrey, you know.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: But I still not good.
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: I wouldn't say it's it's maybe a small sea concern.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: All Right, people are back on the phones. Let's go
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: to David and Florida. What's up David, Hey.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: Guys, what's it going good?
- 1:10:34Speaker 14: Yeah?
- 1:10:34Speaker 15: So I had two things here. First. Firstly, I wanted
- 1:10:37Speaker 15: to apologize to Paul hearing that you had to walk
- 1:10:39Speaker 15: in on Fred Hard at work today. So the second
- 1:10:43Speaker 15: thing is that I've actually speaking of Paul. I've realized
- 1:10:48Speaker 15: that I've started to talk like him a little bit
- 1:10:50Speaker 15: when it comes to some of this draft stuff. But
- 1:10:52Speaker 15: I'm seeing people online saying, I like Will Campbell just
- 1:10:56Speaker 15: not at four, or I like this player, just not
- 1:10:58Speaker 15: And then I just responded with you don't like.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: Him, you don't like him. Yeah, that's that's well done.
- 1:11:02Speaker 15: I completely agree with that. That is such a good
- 1:11:05Speaker 15: response to some of these arguments, and I feel like
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: a lot of people have to hear that. So thankful.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I'm glad I could help yeah, and I do get
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: there's some nuanced thanks David to that line of thought.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: You know, like I think Will Campbell's going to be
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: a really good football player, but I'm not sure he's
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: worth the fourth pick. Now. I do think this draft
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: is kind of unique. I think in this draft you
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: can make an argument that he's the fourth best player.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: Is this all because of COVID? This draft just the
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: way things kind of fell out?
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: I mean, I don't in terms of smarter people's available.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: In this draft, like a lot of guys, you know,
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: it's it's almost like that bridge, like after this year,
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: COVID's in the in the rearview mirror, like this is
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: the last effects of COVID.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Well that's supposed to be true, Like this is about
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: the end of the extra years. There's like there's a
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: lot of six year guys in this draft, but that's.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Why the college rosters and that effects who's available.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: You know, Yeah, no, it probably could be. Yeah, I
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: didn't really think of it in those terms, spread but
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: that's logical. What you're saying is that's why there's more
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: guys that haven't come out yet. That's why you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: maybe guys didn't commit as much. Maybe the talent's more
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: spread out or you know, I don't know. Yeah, a
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: lot of facts.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Let's go to Christian in LA. What's up Christian?
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: All right?
- 1:12:22Speaker 13: Here you guys here you get at I see you
- 1:12:25Speaker 13: having some sort of phone issues which happened, So thank
- 1:12:28Speaker 13: you guys for taking my call here from La where
- 1:12:32Speaker 13: sunny and finally getting warm. Yeah, okay, Before so the football,
- 1:12:37Speaker 13: I want to cut my haters off and say, the
- 1:12:39Speaker 13: only reason why I mentioned wait for Me last week
- 1:12:41Speaker 13: and the other company was because of the contact of
- 1:12:44Speaker 13: the call. It wasn't me being super La as I've
- 1:12:47Speaker 13: now heard. So that's that. But on the football, when
- 1:12:51Speaker 13: we were talking yesterday, they were saying, how such a
- 1:12:55Speaker 13: deep class at deep physics and such a deep class
- 1:12:57Speaker 13: at running back. We were wondering, does that really have
- 1:13:01Speaker 13: an impact on the league in terms of everyone gets
- 1:13:05Speaker 13: a good defensive end. Does that like level up the
- 1:13:07Speaker 13: competition in that position? And then next year there's a
- 1:13:10Speaker 13: run on left tackles to sort of you know, cancel
- 1:13:13Speaker 13: out for running defensive ends, or there's a run on
- 1:13:16Speaker 13: running backs. The next year they do linebackers that they
- 1:13:19Speaker 13: can't sl that up. Do you guys think that really
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: actually has an impact on the league when they have
- 1:13:24Speaker 13: a run or a deep class.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: Well, I mean deep like it's all relative. I mean
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: when we say it's a deep class, I mean there's
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: good players. I mean they're not all Aaron Donald or
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: you know, Lawrence Taylor. You know if you had a
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: run on those guys. Yeah, that that affects the landscape
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: of the league. But I don't think we're going there. Yeah,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: there's going to be some good players that come out
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: of this draft that will make teams, and and uh,
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: it will help those teams. But I don't know if
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: it's it's altering, it's uh, you know.
- 1:13:52Speaker 13: So it doesn't shift the league when there's a deep
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: class at won specific position.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: I don't I don't think.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 1:13:58Speaker 10: No.
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: I think it's more about this draft often like, yeah,
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: you have to look at it and say, ash and
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: Genty might be the best running back, But is the
- 1:14:07Speaker 6: drop off from Ashen Genty to the running back we
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: could get on Day two bigger or smaller than Will
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: Campbell to the next best tackle that we're going to
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: get on day two? And I think that that's where
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: the arguments there are the discussions come into play about
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: who they're going to take at four overall is well,
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: Will Campbell might not be as good of a player
- 1:14:25Speaker 6: as Ashon Genty, but we can get you know, RJ.
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: Harvey on day two of the draft at running back,
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: and there is no equivalent to RJ. Harvey at the
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: tackle position. The drop off at tackle is significant, so
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: we have to what we'd rather lean in. You know,
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: I think the same thing about edge rusher, Like, yeah,
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: Jalen Walker is a good player, but you can find
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: good edge rushers in this class probably into day three
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: of the draft. So do you need to take the
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: edge rusher at four or can you take the position
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: of need at tackle and then take the edge rusher
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: on day two?
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: You know, I don't think there's ever been a draft
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: where so many great players from one position came out
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: of that draft that had altered what other teams had
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: to do the next year too.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: Right, and that like, I don't think you can control
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: where the talent is going to be sort of situated.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: You know, I have heard a lot of different draft
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: guys talk about they have the most amount of running
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: backs in this draft with draftable grades since whatever two
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: thousand and eight. Or something I've heard some different years.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: But that doesn't mean next year there will be like
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: a lot of off ball linebackers, you know that that
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: are going to be ready made to offset those running backs.
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Like you, I don't think you control where the talent
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: is going to be concentrated from draft to draft.
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: Now multiple drafts, you know, for example, interior defensive line,
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: like there we are in a a what's the word
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: like golden era of interior pass rushers like this is
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: probably I mean Aaron Donald retired, So maybe that that
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: brings it down a slight notch. But you know, Chris Jones,
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: Jalen Carter, you know, those types of level players. Like
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: it's just all throughout the league there's great interior pass rushers.
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: So now guards and centers are becoming a little bit
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: more valuable than maybe they were five years.
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: Oh, I would say that over multiple drafts, there was
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: an alteration at quarterback in the AFC. You know, like
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you had Herbert and you had
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Mahomes and you had Josh Allen, you know, and that
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: altered things, you know, the structure in the AFC. But
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: it's multiple years, it's never it's usually not just one.
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: So, but that's a good example. So the AFC right
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: now has you know, a half dozen top flight quarterbacks.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: So if you're in the AFC, you're gonna need to
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: be able to play some pass defense, right, But if
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: the cornerbacks are not worthy of taking in the first round,
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: you can't just say, well, I need a cornerback, right,
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: you know, if they are. You know, obviously that's usually
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: a pretty deep position in any draft. There's a lot
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: of defensive backs. But that's when you get in trouble
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: if you say, well, I got to go up against
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: you know, Mahomes, you know, twice a year, and I
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: got to find a way to well, I can't just
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: take jeff A Kuda right number three. Overall, I know
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: Detroit Tuch Camm and not anybody in the AFC West,
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: But if he's not worthy of that pick, that's not
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: a good pick, just because you need a corner to
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: go against these high flying passing attacks.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Eldred's in North Carolina? What's up? Eldred?
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: Hey?
- 1:17:36Speaker 14: Out of.
- 1:17:39Speaker 16: H question? Uh, gret, I love you. Behind the invo
- 1:17:43Speaker 16: wide receivers, Dante Thorton is my guy.
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: If you tell you that one, I mean if who's Tennessee.
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: Okay, he's in there's no question that's Eldrid's guy.
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: He made my envelope.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: It's a good time to transition to the envelope there.
- 1:18:06Speaker 16: Yeah, a question, would you stick somebody's toes up doing
- 1:18:12Speaker 16: a draft? Give a third for the Raiders left tackle?
- 1:18:16Speaker 16: If he if they trade him and then let Carolina move,
- 1:18:22Speaker 16: what will you get a first in a second? Did
- 1:18:24Speaker 16: you move down and get get what you need? Would
- 1:18:27Speaker 16: y'all do that? Or would you stick and pick? What's
- 1:18:29Speaker 16: the point you got with rounds you got? And I
- 1:18:32Speaker 16: go from there? Thank you?
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: Okay, thanks Elder, Thanks Biggy.
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I'm interested in coldon Miller. I don't
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: know if you'd have to give up a third round
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: pick because you're going to have to give him a contract. Yeah,
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: so that would lower I would think the draft compensation.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it would certainly free them up at the top
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: of it.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: You're available, yeah, I don't think there's any indications so
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: far that he's available.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Right, that was like on day one when he didn't
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: show up. All these stories, they haven't heard anything.
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: Since he's in the contract, right, you know, yeah, knit
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: with the Raiders. But that doesn't mean he's available, right.
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: So anyway, we talked about the envelo. So here's an envelope, right,
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: here's the front of the envelope. In the envelope, you know,
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: we have something in the novel, and then you have
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: the back of the envelope. So, but I've only done
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: these are only well, we did wide receivers last week.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: So I only have really kind of three positions that
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: I've really looked at for back of the envelope other
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: than wide receiver. I started with the tackle. I didn't
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: go into guards and centers. Who cares. I didn't get
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: into that.
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: I'll do that for you. So I don't know.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: I just looked at tackles. So I have five people
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: on my back of the envelope. They may not all
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: be that unknown or you know, but Ozzie Trapillo I
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: like him b C.
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: So I picked him as a guy that could be
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: a Patriot.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you know like that.
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: By the end of the draft, so and so will
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: be on the Patriots. Yeah he could be one of them.
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: Six eight, three, sixteen. I have him as the heir
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: to Moses. Right at right tackle, I have Logan Brown
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: out of Kansas. He's a six six three eleven. I
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: called him a project, never misses a game. He saw
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: a lot of these tackles don't miss games.
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: You know, very athletic, very high upside. But you probably
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: read this and the Beast maybe, but he's had some
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: He had to transfer from Wisconsin, let's just put it
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: to you that way for some issues that happened at
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: the Wisconsin program. Ye, if he if that hadn't happened,
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: it's one of those guys like if that hadn't happened,
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: we're probably talking about him pushing the top one hundred
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: of this draft. He's going to get knocked a couple
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: of rounds because of.
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: It's okay, the past things we do in our youth,
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: Yeah, we got into it with a teammate a little bit.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Another left tackle, Miles Hinton out of Michigan's six six
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: three twenty five. I noted that he only has one
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: flag in two years.
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a lot of people that are really high
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: on Miles Hinton. He's, you know, kind of one of
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: those guys highly touted out of high school. You know,
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: went to a big, you know, blue blood program, you know,
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: power five school, power four, whatever you call it. Uh,
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: there there's a there's some Day three buzz for Miles
- 1:21:11Speaker 6: Hinton that that's for sure.
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: I can't read my own writing. Left tackle Jalen is
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: a Travis Travis Travis out of Iowa State.
- 1:21:20Speaker 6: As strong as an ox, big, big dude, like six eight.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Six seven six eight three thirty nine.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: Yeah, huge, huge tackle is a little stiff, little heavy footed,
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: but but it's got all of the people moving and
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: all that stuff checked.
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: And then finally I have him at tackle or guard
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: Xavier Trust out of Georgia six seven three eighteen. He's
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: Rhode Island guy.
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: Yeah, reminds me of McLendon, Warren McClendon, who also came
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: from Georgia. You know, probably like a flex tackle guard,
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: you know, probably a backup in the league, but can
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: probably back up both spots, and those guys are valuable.
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Uh so that's my tackle position. Then I did
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: a couple of runs. Obviously, Skataboo's won.
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: He's you know, he's actually like your Stataboo one.
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: Yeah, there's some buzz about Skataboo not having as many
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: fans in the league as he does in the meeting.
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: Well, he's kind of a hard oh, and he's not
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: totally season He's not.
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: As you know, there's a lot of questions about his
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: play speed and his explosiveness and how athletic he truly
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: is and all that kind of stuff. So I'm actually
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: really interested to see where he goes because I think
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: he'll be a Day three pick.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: Day three. Yeah, he's a Day three guy.
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: Yeah. And laquin Allan Syracuse six foot about two oh five.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: He got into a fight early in his career, not
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: on the field, but you know that's why you like,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: I'm getting in a little trouble. But he's a hard worker.
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: All his coaches love him, and he's got huge hands
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: for a running back.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: Yeah. So he's probably the best all around past catching
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: back in this class. He's one of the few guys
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: that can actually block at the position. He's a very
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: high level pass blocker, a very good pass catcher out
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: of the backfield. It reminds me a little bit of
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: Rashad White in Tampa Bay. You know, that kind of
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: player that they can get out of the backfield and
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: catch passes. But out of everything that that you can
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: give to Laquinn al And he might be the best
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: pass bocker in the entire class.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: So it's funny you brought up Rashad White. Yeah, he
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: was also one of the guys that Schefter had being
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: potentially available with the emergence of Bucky Irving. Yeah, I'd
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: give up a draft a late draft pick for Rashad
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: White if if that's something that you really want to do.
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be tough to get any value for
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: running backs with the class that it is about to
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: come in, Like, you know, why would you trade a
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: draft pick when you could draft one.
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: Of these Dudescause I have a guy who's ready made.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: I don't have to wait for him to be ready,
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: that's true.
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: And then I only picked two for defensive end edge
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: because it's such a deep draft. For that it's like
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: they're all pretty good as you can see. I like
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: the local guys. Donovan ez Juraku. Yeah, so from BC
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: six to forty eight ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's something. Yeah, had like sixteen sacks
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: last year. He is agent switched up.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm surprised that you didn't know of him, not really,
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: like just because of the name, Like it's a you know,
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: stands out.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: And then the late draft guy, maybe even Ah.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: He's a first round a.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: Free undrafted free agent R j Oben out of Notre
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: Dame sixty three two fifty one. He's more polished than
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: you would think as a pass rusher, has a lot
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: of experience. I think he's played six years. He played
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: at Duke before Notre Dame. It's nothing else. He's special teams,
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: but I think he could actually become a rotational pass rusher.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: He's got some moves in his arsenal. He's he's not
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: quite the athlete that some of these other guys are,
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: which is why he's gonna go a little bit later.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: But he's got skills.
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: He's got skilled he's got hands, he's got heavy hands,
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: he's got some counters to his game. He's he was
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: it was the word. He was decent and mobile, like
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: we saw him at the Senior Bowl and he was solid.
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: But Donovan Azaraku, who is one of my favorites, he's
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: he's gonna go early. I you know, just twitched up,
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: sudden mover, can rush off the edge, speed, rush beat
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: you inside defense the run. Well, just a really good player.
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: So Asaraku probably doesn't qualify as a back of the
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: envelope guy, he's too.
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: He's a top thirty two talent in the draft.
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think I want to say it was
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: the Florida State game that I really noticed him, Like
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: he wrecked that game.
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: Yeah, he's right there with you know, like Mike Green
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: and Shamar Stewart and all those guys. You know, he's
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: a little bit cleaner off the field than my Green.
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: So I could actually see him going ahead of Mike
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: Green in the draft. I think he's a back end
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: of the first round talent.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, so I hope to get to, uh, defensive backs, linebackers,
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: and tight ends. Those are the other three positions I
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: want to get to before doing Jaggie.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: Wide receivers this year.
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: Already, did I know?
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: But they were good ones?
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: No, n oh yeah, nickname Thornton's late draft.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: You had, you had Nick.
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: He's not Day one or two, right, Dante Thornton. Yeah,
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: but he's so.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: I can sit anyone that's day three. I consider that's
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: back of the envelope, you know.
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: Sure, right, Yeah, you're right, those are good names. Good tackles,
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: You are right, good tackles. Those guys, I think, you know,
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: Logan Brown, Travis like those guys are all flyers at
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: the You know on day three that a lot of
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: people have liked it throughout this process. You know, size
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: with Travis and athleticism with Brown. Yeah.
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: Okay, so let's get back to the phones. We've got
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: Kareem in Boston. What's up, Kareem?
- 1:26:29Speaker 17: Hey, guys, it's Boston dream here on my question, is
- 1:26:33Speaker 17: there any chance that we completely hunt on left tackle
- 1:26:37Speaker 17: when we just take a flyer and the team just
- 1:26:39Speaker 17: goes best player available and then addresses the position next year?
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: I do think I would say there's a chance. I
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: think it's probably unlikely, but yeah, I could make an
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: argument for.
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: That, yep.
- 1:26:51Speaker 17: And then is there any chance that we can bring
- 1:26:53Speaker 17: back the pickleback shots this year for the draft show?
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: What's what do you say?
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: Pickle juice the shots? Yeah, pickleback shots. So you guys
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: didn't you and Andy do that one year?
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: I don't think you need to do that left tackle
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: like you don't need to. I don't think you need
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: to skip it like. I think there's gonna if you
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: truly want to stick to the board and play best player, like,
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: there's gonna be tackles on that you're gonna be able
- 1:27:19Speaker 6: to draft it the spots on day you know, day one,
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: day two that you can justify sticking to the board
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: and taking those guys. I don't think you have to
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: thank Boston a position.
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: Let's go to Brad in Ohio. What's up, Brad?
- 1:27:35Speaker 13: Hey, how you guys doing today?
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:27:39Speaker 15: Ready for the draft?
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: Getting ready?
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: Getting there?
- 1:27:43Speaker 14: That's right. A couple of quick questions for you guys today,
- 1:27:47Speaker 14: keep up the good job. Just to qu uh if
- 1:27:52Speaker 14: we look at it from a defensive perspective and gleaming
- 1:27:56Speaker 14: from what Rabel said in his interview, which defensive player
- 1:28:01Speaker 14: do you think would be the best to counter from
- 1:28:05Speaker 14: a Patrick Mahomes, Allen and Jackson given uh, you know
- 1:28:11Speaker 14: that position, because he'd be talked about a premium position.
- 1:28:14Speaker 14: So I'm thinking he's going to go somebody to try
- 1:28:17Speaker 14: to go after one of them. Who would be the
- 1:28:19Speaker 14: best for that?
- 1:28:20Speaker 15: That's my first question.
- 1:28:22Speaker 14: And then there's a couple Iowa players a defensive tackle
- 1:28:26Speaker 14: Yaya Black I believe, and linebacker Higgins that I'd like
- 1:28:31Speaker 14: to see maybe looked into. And then Luke Lackie a
- 1:28:36Speaker 14: tight end. And I did ask Evan and Alex once
- 1:28:41Speaker 14: about double dipping a tight end. And the reason why
- 1:28:44Speaker 14: is because the ones we have are good, but they're
- 1:28:47Speaker 14: just kind of old. So I was wondering if maybe
- 1:28:50Speaker 14: we should you know, upgrade for Drake's perspectives.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: Yeah, tight ends, you know, Yeah, yeah, all right, thanks Brad.
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: I don't think you have the draft two of them.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: I don't see the need for that. But adding a
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: tight end to the developmental pipeline.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: The first question about like who's the best, the best
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: to go after I would I.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: Mean, yeah, it's abdul Cotter in this draft. I mean,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: I like Jalen Walker, you know, as a realistic possibility
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: at four. But that's one thing that stood out to
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: me with rabel Is when he talked about, sort of
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: as introductory press conference, guys who affect the quarterback. And
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: that's why I think they still have a need for
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: edge rush. And I think Evan's point about the depth
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: of that spot makes a lot of sense, Like I
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: don't necessarily think you need to use the fourth overall
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: pick on that position, because you can get a really
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: good one, as you said, Fred with Azaraku as a
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: guy later in the first round that might be available
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: even at the top of the second when you go,
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: is that that much of a difference. Probably not, ye,
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: especially with with Walker, even though I have a crush
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: on Walker, there is some question as to whether does
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: he fit best as a pure edge guy or is
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: he sort of an off the ball linebacker type who
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: can do sort of those different things. You know, he's smaller,
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: but kind of like Don the high tower where you
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: use him as an edge rusher and certain situations he
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: comes up the a gap. On other situations, He's not
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: as big as his high tower, as I said, But
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: how much has that kind of versatility?
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: How much do we have to factor in the vraable
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: type of player in trying to figure out who's going
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: to get picked.
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: I do think it's getting a tad overrated, thank you
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: at this point.
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: I think there are certain positions, you know where they
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: talk about effort and finish. Well, if you're gonna play
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: defense or offensive line, then effort and finish is going
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: to be a big part of the position that you play.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: But are they going to take a guy you know,
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: Jalen Walker is getting a lot of buzz because he
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: has got all the intangible qualities that vrabel wants. He's
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: going to be a team captain. Someday, He's gonna have
- 1:31:02Speaker 6: great effort and finish. He's gonna be, you know, one
- 1:31:05Speaker 6: of those high character guys in the locker room and
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: want that and that.
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: And that's why I think Evans percent right. He's a
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: rable guy. Like what coach doesn't want guys that play hard,
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: you know, work, they work hard on and off the field,
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: the team oriented, they finish, play to the whistlelake right,
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: I mean all coaches want those kinds of things.
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. With Jalen Walker, I posted
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: a breakdown of him today and I think, Paul, you
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: nailed it to me. Like I have Jalen Walker as
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: a linebacker, A lot of people have Jaalen Walker as
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: an edge rusher. I just at six one, two forty,
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: I don't see how you're gonna play edge rusher full
- 1:31:42Speaker 6: time in the NFL. So I look at him as
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: high tower, like he's gonna play off the ball on
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: first and second down and then on third down they'll
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: put him in the pass rush somewhere, whether it's you know,
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: over the guard or out over the tackle. But I
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: don't see him as a full time pass rusher. Guy
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: off the edge. But I think that he's gonna be
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: able to do a little bit of both. And he's
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: gonna bring the intangibles in the in the football character
- 1:32:06Speaker 6: side of.
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: It, and he definitely has that. I mean they people
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: speak of him really glowingly in terms yeah leadership and professionalism.
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: He has a chance to be like a captain as
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: a second year player, like you know that, like a
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Devin mccordy type of captain for a decade type of player.
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: But is he the best player on the football field,
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: which is what you know Rabel said at his introductor
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: in his press conference, you know, pre draft press conference,
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: was He's gotta be a good football player first, Like
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: we're not just drafting a bunch of boy scouts. You
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: have to have good football players first.
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: Michael writes, And I'm interested in the idea of trading down.
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: If we trade down with the Saints at number nine,
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: what are the chances will Campbell will still be available?
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: And if not, do we hit the panic button and
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: grab Kelvin Banks or armored Membu at nine.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: So I'm glad you brought this up. I do think
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: there's a chance that you could do something like that.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: I don't know exactly what the odds are, but I
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: don't think it's out of the ramapass ability that you
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: could still get Campbell. I want to talk to Evan
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: about Kelvin Banks a little bit. Yeah, you guys know,
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: like going back to like during the season, Kelvin Banks
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: was my tackle of choice. Yeah, he sort of slipped
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: after getting you know, ironically getting dominated by my guy
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: Jalen Walker and that Georgia Mikels defense. Yeah, he seems
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: to be on the rise again. Am I imagining that?
- 1:33:25Speaker 6: Yeah, we're getting uh, we're going full circle here with
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: two guys Tet McMillan and Kelvin Banks. Sounds like a
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: lot of the buzz that Tet McMillan was gonna fall
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: maybe to like the twenty range that seems to be
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: a little bit overblown. Similarly, with Banks, I think both
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: those guys are you know, probably going the ten to
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: twenty range conservatively, but are still going to go early
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: in the draft. I think the one thing that people
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: have concerns with with Banks that tackle, because a lot
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: of people project Banks to play guard at the next level.
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: Actually he's he's a guard in the beast, you know.
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: Dan Brugler has him as a guard. The more space
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: he plays in, the body control and the balance is
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: not always there. So when he gets out on an
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: island against pass pass rushers and he's got a dance
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: with those guys out there, he's not the best at
- 1:34:11Speaker 6: sustaining blocks and being able to stay connected to those
- 1:34:15Speaker 6: pass rushers. So some people think that his playing style
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: is a little bit more conducive to playing inside versus outside.
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: But I think that the league views him as a
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: top twenty player in the class.
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: And I think, yeah, it's funny. I mean, I don't
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: pretend to be the expert on offensive line play, but
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: he seems to me to have prototypical.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: There's a lot of parotypical trades. Extremely wide bodied guy.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: You know, he's got the length, he's got the foot speed, athleticism,
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: but a really good run blocker already.
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: Again, it's not a lot of character to Fred high
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: character guy Ki Banks.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: There you go, yep, Jack and and Auber. Who's our
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: insider at Michigan, he says, Miles hint and transferred to
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: Michigan from Stanford. He played very little his first year
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: to do to injury. He played left tackle the next season.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: He never lived up to his billing. He's a huge
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: guy who doesn't play physically. Early on, he struggled with
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: pass protection. He eventually settled in as a solid, but
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: not dominant left tackle. I'm skeptical he will ever develop
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: into a starting left tackle in the NFL. He would
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: be worth drafting in the sixth or seventh round. Perhaps
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: Hinton has a better future in the NFL as a guard.
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: I don't know about the guard part. I mean, I
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: watched him at tackle, and I just if you're going
- 1:35:26Speaker 6: day three, like I think he's spot on that he's
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: a Day three pick, there's no doubt about that. But
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: if you're going day three, he's got a lot of
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: the raw tools and measurables that lend themselves to a
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: higher ceiling than some of the other guys you know
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: over thirty four inch arms, really good athlete, you know,
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: highly touted guy that never lived up to the building.
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: But you put him in the right program with the
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: right coach and maybe you get you know, that five
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: star talent out of him. So as a day three flyer,
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: like that's what teams are looking for, or the guys
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: that have some upside and some ceiling to them.
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: At that point of the draft, spiin Frezo says, listening
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: to the first three callers speaking and not being heard
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: by you guys and then getting hung up on with hilarious.
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: Four boys had to walk the plank, and Fred, my
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: appliance guy, gave the thumbs up on speed. Queen. Oh
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: it's yeah, listen, I know what I'm talking about there
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: Ford in Savannah. Fred, let it be known we were
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: lockstep on lad and now we are once again with
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: Tyler Warren Evan. Him being good at multitude of things
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: is not a good argument for not selecting him. Let's
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: go Patriots, please surprise us.
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: It was really good at multiple things, but wasn't actually good.
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: Adelius Thomas like, I feel like there's a lot of
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: players like that that are just like it, just I mean,
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: obviously different positions, but like I think in the league
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: you have to have a something that you're elite at
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: to truly move the needle for a team. Like what
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: is the one thing that you can hang your hat
- 1:36:56Speaker 6: on and say I am awesome at this?
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: That's the question in this draft, because I would agree
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: with you, you need to be elite at something if
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: you're going to be one of those picks. Yeah, you're
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: gonna be a top ten pick in a draft. You
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: got to have an elite trade. But maybe in this
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: draft there aren't a lot of guys with elite traits. Yeah,
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: so you just picture the next best.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: He's one of the cleanest prospects in the draft. Like you,
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: you're going to get a starting at tight end. I
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: just don't know if he's going to be an elite
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: tight end. You know, he's going to be a good
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: tight end for a long time. I'm also agist, so
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: that's part of it too. He's older, and I don't
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: I don't love older prospects. Like, it's not impressive to
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: me when like a twenty four year old owns eighteen
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: year olds.
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: You don't have to agree with you on the on
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: that as Belichick, Yeah, tended to gravitate to the underclassman
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: a lot. Yeah, liked he liked the younger guys.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: Well, I think yeah, I mean bost teams. That's why
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: those those when those juniors declare, they go higher because
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: you get them for you know, they're.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: Well, it's part of it, yeah, I mean mostly they
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: just more talented. Yeah, it took what five years to
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: really where would those two wide receivers go if they
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: came out right now? You know, Ryan was it? Ryan
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: Williams and Jeremiah Smith.
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: Jeremiah Smith might be the first pick.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: They might probably both be in the top ten anyway.
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Nick in Connecticut. If Luther Burden slips into
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: the late first, early second round, I'd love for the
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: Patriots to find a way to get him. This got
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: me thinking about how we and Diggs, how he and
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: Diggs would gel in the locker room and on the field.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: I believe both have a similar skill set, so if
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: Diggs was willing to mentor him, it could be an
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: amazing fit. With that said, I know Diggs has had
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: the reputation of being a distraction and sometimes not having
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: the best attitude. With the Burdens red flags come into
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: the league, it could potentially exacerbate the issue instead of
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: it being a positive. I'm just interested in where you
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: guys fall on that.
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: So I'm just going to talk about Diggs and I'll
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: let I'll let f talk about Burden, who I love,
- 1:38:55Speaker 4: by the way, but just the whole off field thing
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: with Diggs, and this is something I've argued with Mike
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: about a lot and I wish he was here For
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: a guy who is like as big a problem as
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: everybody makes him out to be. He's been on nothing
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: but winning teams. In Minnesota they won, in Buffalo they won,
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: and last year in Houston they won. So he can't
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: be that disruptive. He's always part of a winning bad now,
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: I understand that. I understand that. You know who else
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: didn't win it all? Logan Mankin. Do you think he
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: was disruptive?
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: Well when he had his contract thing?
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why they didn't win it all?
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: Yeah. I love Luther Burden. I have him as the
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: third best receiver in the class. I think he's getting
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: dinged for the off field stuff and for the character stuff,
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: And to me, he's the biggest litmus test of the
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: whole Rabel thing in this entire draft. Like, if the
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: Patriots passed on Luther Burden at thirty eight, then I
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: will be hundred percent sold that Rabel's football character. And
- 1:39:57Speaker 6: you know, getting the right kind of guy is holding
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: a lot of weight in the draft room because that
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: guy is definitely a first round talent. So like, you
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: can't pass on him on thirty eight based off the
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: football I think He's a little bit different than Diggs,
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: Like he's better after the catch and he's more elusive
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: with the ball in his hands than Stefan Diggs, but
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: not maybe as good of a route runner as Diggs is,
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: But he's to me, he's like a Zay Flowers, Deebo
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: Samuel type of receiver. But I love Luther Burden and
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: another one young player early breakout, true sophomore breakout in
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: twenty twenty three. And I think that last year was
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: just a bad year for the program. It was a
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: bad year for the quarterback, it was a bad year
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: for everybody at Missouri that didn't live up to the
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: expectations and not hurt him.
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: And just you know, with that character concern out of
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: the draft for Vrabel, it's worth mentioning he took a
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: handful of risks in Tennessee and for the most part,
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: was not rewarded for them. I believe one major hit
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: in that regard was Jeffrey Simmons, who had some questions
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: coming out, and obviously that was a home run. But
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: he also took Isaiah Wilson, the guy who played like
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: played like five plays for him as a first round pick.
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: There was a lot of questions. I remember at the COMBA.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: I believe that was one of my last combines. There
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: were a lot of questions about him there in Indy.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: They took him anyway in the first round and he
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: was out of the league. I think he like literally
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: played like less than a game in the league. Caleb
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: Farley was an injury risk that obviously turned out to
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: be valid. He didn't play a whole lot, so he's
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: taken some risks.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: The injury one. In his pre draft press conference, that's
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: what he pointed out specifically when it comes to what
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: did you learn? The question was what did you learn
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: from Tennessee? And they took some injury risks early on
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: in the draft. And that's why I've more or less
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: crossed Josh Simmons off the list. I think that he's
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: going to learn from some of the change his ways,
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: I guess is a better way to put it. With
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: some of those things. When it comes to injured guys,
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: there's a couple other guys that have popped up. Now
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: you start to hear about the guys that have medical
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: red flags on them from teams this time of year.
- 1:42:07Speaker 6: You know, Jeehat Campbell's another one will Johnson has like
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: a knee thing that people are worried about now.
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: Is that what I want to ask you about him too.
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: He's the corner from Michigan Freddie. Yeah, you know, and
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: there was some questions about his sort of speed, you know,
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: his long speed, and now that he's dealing with his
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: knee thing, generally you're not going to gain speed. It's
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: not like Tommy John's surgery where you know, all of
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: a sudden you start throwing three miles an hour hotter
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: after you go under the knife. Is there concerns about
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: Will Johnson?
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: It sounds like it's more longevity than it is, like
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: he's hurt right now. I think it's more of like
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: a Sony Michelle situation of like how long is the
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: knee gonna hold up?
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: That's a tough one.
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: Joe writes in I think they should be giving serious
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: consideration to taking genty. The examples like McCaffrey and Barkley
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: are examples where teams never had and never got a
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: quarterback for at least this year. You should be building
- 1:43:02Speaker 3: your teams under the assumption you do. If may proves
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: to be bad, you can reassess teams who had the
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: quarterback ended up doing very well drafting a running back
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: high some pro running back examples Dallas with Dak and Zeke,
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: the Rams with Goff and Gurley, and even the Jags
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: with Fournette and Bortles. If you can trade down and
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: get Genty, I think that's your best bet. Trade back up,
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: get a left tackle, then find a pass rusher and
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: guard with those third rounders.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: It's basically Evans argument.
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: It's a fair then like it's a it's a fair plan.
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: Then you know. The Dallas one I think is Dallas
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: drafted Dak the same class that they drafted Zeke, and
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: they stumbled into Dak Prescott. He was a fourth round
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: pick that turned out to be a franchise quarterback.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: I like his argument, I would question his examples, Like
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: Leonard Fournette is an example of a good pick at
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: four they did make because they had because they had
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: Blake Bortles.
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: Yeah, like they.
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: Had a good but they had an unbelievable team right
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: that was very talented and probably should have gone to
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: the Super Bowl. They probably should have beaten the Patriots
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: that day, and that that's what seventeen AFC Championship. Yeah,
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: they had the Patriots dead and buried. But I would
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: argue that just because you had success for a fleeting
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: season doesn't mean that that was a good pick.
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: Yeah, and Gurley and Goff's a good one. But Gurley
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: is another example of a running back that flamed out
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: after his rookie contract. So the longevity thing.
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: Is thanks for reminding me of that one, because that,
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: to me is that that should be the post of childhood.
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: Why you don't do that right because it's such a
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: short shelf life?
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, let's see this is uh John, where's he from? Denver?
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: Calls himself the Denver omelet?
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: Uh?
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: Little?
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: Would you rather game? Would you rather draft all offensive
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: players or draft all defensive players?
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: All offense this year? In this draft this year offense?
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: Okay? Would you rather trade Drake made of the Giants
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: for neighbors in the number three pick? Or Trey Drake
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: and number four for Patrick Mahomes? Bonus? This forces Kelsey
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: to cry and retire in his podcast, and he and
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: Taylor break up.
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes, Yeah, I have no interest in the Giants.
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: Yeah, only I wouldn't do that Giants trade.
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: No, No, but I would do it The Kansas City one.
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: Yeah, film rookie content trout fishing with Travis Hunter or
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Russell Gators with Will Campbell.
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: I want nothing to do with gators, so yeah, they'll
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: take the farm on.
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: That scenario, Mike Rabel is abducted by aliens. Who would
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: you rather bring back as head coach? Gerard Mayo, Bill
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: Belichick or Josh McDaniels, Bill.
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: Belichick, Josh, Josh McDaniels.
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: Did rather bring Josh McDaniels back, Yeah than Bill?
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: Yeah, we didn't. I just bringing Bill back.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: I didn't say that Josh McDaniels is a better head
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: coach than Bill Belichick. If you ask me right now
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: what I'd rather have, I'd rather have Josh McDaniels than
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: a seventy four or three whatever you're old, Bill Belichick's
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: little that's crazy. I saw enough of Bill at the end.
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: I don't think he was the same coach.
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: Didn't see Josh in Vegas.
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: I didn't say that was great, didn't say that.
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: Would you rather win Super Bowl fifty two with Brady's
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: comeback drive? And Bill reveals why Malcolm Butler didn't play
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: or win Super Bowl forty two in the nineteen and
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: o C nineteen not even a question. Would you rather
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: spend the day with Jack and and Aba touring the
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: Michigan facility while he talks about every obscure Michigan player
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: that the Patriots should draft, or may even get to
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: smell harbors and you even get to smell Harbor's use
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: skivvies at the end, Or spend the day with Christian
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: in La and his fifth home on the Amalfi Coast
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: seeing how people in that tax bracket live. The two
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: of you can spit from his high tower down to
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: the rest of us Heathens.
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: Definitely Christian.
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: Christian seems like he might just be throwing it around
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: a little bit. Hey here we go.
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, he doesn't like Christian in La, so.
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: Poor Christian in La. I like how he gets on
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: every call now when he has his preemptive I know,
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: people retort to all his critics.
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: I do think it's funny that he also brings up
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: the weather in La and he's like, it's finally getting warm.
- 1:47:18Speaker 6: It's like it's always warm, Like what do you mean
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: it's finally getting warm? Like you go out to La.
- 1:47:24Speaker 6: The coldest that gets is like forty degrees.
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: We had a beautiful day here on Saturday. It's like,
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: you know, I think could hit the eighties. Yeah, at
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: one point, and I had a bunch of stuff to do.
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: I got a lot of stuff done. I very much enjoyed,
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: actually for a change, doing yard work because it was
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: so nice out. But I didn't get to golf. So
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: I went golfing yesterday afternoon and we were back in
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: the fifties with like thirty mile an hour, wins in
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: my face on every shot. That's in a related story.
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: I sucked. Fred's not even paying attention. No, no, what's
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: the matter, Like how nice it was on Saturday, But
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: I was busy with other stuff. I didn't get to
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: golf and enjoy that weather. I played yesterday and it
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: was back to like fifty degrees wind in your face
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: every shot in it, and I suck. Where'd you play
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: the meadows and peevity the meadows?
- 1:48:14Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:48:15Speaker 6: Fancy, it's not.
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: It's a public course. It's not fancy.
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: Sounds fancy, let's see.
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: Ryan, really not. It doesn't even have a clubhouse.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: Ryan, and Watertown appreciates everything we do with the draft.
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: This Thursday, I'm sure everyone is going to ask questions
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: about wide receiver. I'd like to hear your perspective on
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: this scenario. I'm gonna list some wide receivers that could
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: potentially be on our roster, and I want to hear
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: from each of you who makes your ideal. Twenty twenty five,
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: twenty twenty six six man wide receiver room considering Digs
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: and mccollins are locks. Pick four more from the list below.
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: So the list is Douglas Bourne, Poke, Booty Baker and
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: the free agents. It's too long, now, forget it. It's
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: too many. I thought this was going to be a
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: draft for Yeah, it's too many people. I'm sorry, Ryan,
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: but you can't send us an email email that makes
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: us think too much.
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: Jalen Noel or Kyle Williams. Yeah, draft one of those
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: two guys.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I like both of those guys. I
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: tend to gravitate to the outside guys a little bit
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: more than Evan does, but I like both. You know,
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: Williams has really come on a lot.
- 1:49:26Speaker 6: That's what I like a little bit more about. I
- 1:49:28Speaker 6: love Jaylen Nole, you know that. But Kyle Williams can
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: play a little bit on the outside. He's got some
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: ability to play stretch the field, you know, beat press
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: coverage like that kind of thing. So I've gravitated a
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: little bit more towards him too, and I put him
- 1:49:41Speaker 6: in the mock draft, and everybody told me I took
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: him too high. I did not take him too high.
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: I'm telling you that right now. That guy's not making
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: it out of the second round. So maybe thirty eight,
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: maybe he's gonna go fifty instead of thirty eight, but
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: he's he's not making it out.
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: Of another one of those. If you want them, you
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: got to take them.
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, Brandon California. At this point in the draft process,
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: I feel like we have exhausted just about every possible
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: outcome for the Patriots in the first round. Barring a
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: trade back into the end of the first round, Thursday
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: night might end up being a quick and possibly boring
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: night for Patriots fans. That's why I would like to
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: be more like Fred and have some teams to root
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: against on Night One. My question is if any of
- 1:50:22Speaker 3: you have some players you would hate to see land
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: on other teams. Personally, I would hate to see a
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: scenario where we pass on Campbell and watch him fall
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: to the Jets, especially if he ends up being great
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: like I think he will be. Another example of this
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: might be someone like Luther Burden being swooped up at
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: the end of the first round by a team like
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: the Bills of the Chiefs.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: The latter one I would put right in that category
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: of what he's talking about. I don't want to see
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: those passing teams that I think are like a weapon
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: away from being really tough to stop. Get a guy
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: like that.
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I know. I just trying to keep up a
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: little bit with the rest of the AFC East and Buffalo.
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: A lot of people in Buffalo want them to go
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: defense because of how the defense took a little bit
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: of a step back last year, and specifically defensive line.
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: And you see a lot of mocks with like Kenneth
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: Grant from Michigan or Walter Nolan or whatever, and I'm like,
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: take one of those guys, go right Do you want
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: to take an interior run stuffer in the first round
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: if you're if you're a Buffalo, go right ahead.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: I would say. On the flip side, though, like when
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: you're picking in the late twenties thirties, that's where you like,
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: that's where you're pick. Like, That's why I'm not overly
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: interested in Mason Graham. Yeah, but I would take you know,
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: one of those guys at twenty seven. Whatever Buffalo is picking,
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: they gotta be picking like twenty eight, twenty nine.
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: Yeah, they want to they want to get stouter through
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: the middle, you know, they want to be a.
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: Base a little bit, don't you think, just in perception, like.
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: He didn't do anything in the pre draft process, like nothing,
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: he didn't work out, nothing, And I think when that
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: type of stuff happens, you kind of forget about him
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: a little bit. Yeah, right, like you know, people start
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: to kind of forget about him. Right, I've never been
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: crazy about him, you know, compared to some other people.
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: Just two hundred ninety six pound interior defensive lineman that
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: isn't a great athlete. Like clearly if he was a
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: good athlete, he would have tested. So he's not a
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: great athlete. I think we can say that. Yeah, he's
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: kind of like point, you know, a technique wizard and
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: an effort guy. Yeah yeah, right.
- 1:52:22Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: Here's a more what's more likely game? And this is
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: from Tyler in Ludlow. What's more likely there are less
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: There are less than three first round trades, or half
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: of the top ten picks are traded. I think that's
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: more likely.
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: Yeah, less than three.
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: Less than three. Yeah, what's more likely Patriots draft Will
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: Campbell at four or the field.
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: Technically Campbell.
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: I'm gonna say Will Campbell's more likely. I just feel
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: like everybody is in agreement. Yeah, it's funny. I had
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: a conversation about this too, and I was told to like,
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: I don't know why you're putting so much stock in
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: the fact that everybody thinks they're picking Will Campbell, right,
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: because you know, Vrabel is not necessarily a guy that
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: would track to telling everybody what they're going to do,
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: so that people are just making their opinions. But I
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: just feel like there's an overwhelming amount of evidence right
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: now that people seem to be all in on camp Yeah.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: I think with Campbell, to go to your a golf analogy,
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: you're on the fairway, Like, did you hit a three
- 1:53:22Speaker 6: hundred and fifty yard drive? Probably not, but you're on
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: the fairway. I think with some of these other guys,
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: you worry about being in in the woods.
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: See I was on the fairway all day yesterday, but
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: it was at that point that I was not getting
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: from the fairway to the green.
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: That's where we could have teamed up. I could have
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: shot that second.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: I hit like three irons over the green yesterday, and
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: it wasn't because I like I hit him long, because
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: I didn't hit them right. So you know when you
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: hit like an iron off the heel and it goes
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: further than it normally would like, That's why I was
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: hitting him over the green, not because I just had
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: the wrong club. They're all I just I bulked up.
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: I'm not a big mishitting everything.
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: I don't golf, but I watched the end of the Masters,
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: and that shot that Rory.
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: Hit the before choked and missed the putt.
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: Before the one, the one that curved around one of
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: the greatest shots I've ever seen. I mean that that
- 1:54:14Speaker 6: was unreal.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: What's more likely after genty is the top four pick,
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: or he is in the top twenty pick.
- 1:54:21Speaker 6: He is a top four pick, definitely moreless.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: He's not I'm going to go I'm gonna go, he's not.
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: I mean, I think I don't think he's going in
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: the top.
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: I don't think there's any shot he's a top four pick.
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: A shot, yeah, yeah, but Patriots could take him. They
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: could somebody could.
- 1:54:35Speaker 4: Try to say this top four because I think there's
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: a better chance the Patriots take him at four, then
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: he goes out of the top.
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: Tokay, Yeah, what's more likely the Cowboys war room celebrates
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: after making their pick, just like they defeated an alien invasion.
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: Or Paul drinks a diet pepsi and Draft Night, well
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: we know that, well.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: Both of what's the over under on Diapepsi's on Draft Knight?
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: Usually that's a.
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: Heavy probably thirty two one for each pick.
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: That's a lot. My eyes would be bugging out of
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: my head.
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: I noticed in the dispenser out there, the snack you know,
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: the drink dispenser they took out all the celsius. Is
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: that because they just haven't filled it? Or is there
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: a thing like we're not.
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: Game we need a home we need a home revs game.
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: A lot of the time, Uh, there's revs games like
- 1:55:24Speaker 6: Saturday night, like of Draft weekend. I think Messi was here.
- 1:55:28Speaker 6: Was that last year or two years ago that he
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: was here on like the on Day three, the night
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: of Day three, So maybe Saturday.
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: Yeah, that's not going to help me though.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: Ford and Savannah, why does the inevitability of selecting Campbell
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: with the fourth oral pick. Feel like getting socks for Christmas,
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: because it is sure I desperately need socks, but I
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: won't feel anything but underwhelmed when receiving them. I think
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: you're under selling Will Campbell and the need left tackle.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: I think you're gonna be mid year, you're gonna be
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: very happy he's on this team.
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: Yeah, but two things can be true, like who do
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: you think is the best left tackle, like of all time,
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: of all time?
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: Or you love I like Tyron Smith.
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: Tyron Smith is like getting socks. Yes, it is, like
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: I understand what Evans point is.
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: It's like it's a blocker and you hope it's not fun.
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: You hope that he pans out. You hope that he's
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: your guy in the future. And then you're like, oh,
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: that was a smart pick. See we did the right thing.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: We got the right guy, and you.
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: Get a guy like that. But he's a Hall of
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: Famer man.
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: I understand.
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: There's a few tackles that like, I think Penny Sewell
- 1:56:37Speaker 6: changes the Lions offense, like his because he's so athletic
- 1:56:40Speaker 6: and he can get out in space and he can
- 1:56:42Speaker 6: block and on the move so well that like you can.
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: You can schematically build the offense around a guy like that,
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: but that's like a very Everybody else is just kind
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: of Is he serviceable at the position? Or is he not?
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: Nate Rison, He says. I've always wondered if I would
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: ever meet any of the Unfiltered, and last week it
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: finally happened. I ran into Deuce while he was out
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: for a walk with Zuke. I heard this story who
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: had bitten a squirrel? Zuke bit a squirrel. Turns out
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: Deus lives right up the street from me, in a
- 1:57:11Speaker 3: house my kids used to go to daycare in. I'm
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: writing to say that Deuce is exactly the same kind,
- 1:57:16Speaker 3: thoughtful and engaging person he is on air, and thank
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: him for taking a few minutes to talk to me
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: and my son. The whole experience was great and moved
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: him up my Unfiltered panelist rankings, which he sorely needed
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: after their precipitous slide following the jant Mock Draft. Football Wise,
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: please get Evan to stop recommending the Patriots draft underside
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: wide receivers or slot receivers in general. Eldred and I
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: would like to continue to listen to the show The
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: Josh McDaniel's Patriots have never had an issue with production
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: from that position and they won't this year. Either Pop
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: can play it, and if he doesn't have the durability,
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: it will be next man up and they can figure
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: out what they have in that room. Not to mention,
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: they're paying Stefan Dig's twenty million plus per year and
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: he played forty six percent of his snaps from the slot.
- 1:58:04Speaker 3: According to Evan, the Patriots need outside help and it's
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: unfortunate this isn't the draft to get it. But ultimately,
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: we can't play three slots at once.
- 1:58:14Speaker 6: I'm not too worried about where they're all gonna play.
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: I just want guys that can get open.
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: And either and Digs is not making anyway there that
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: amount of money.
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: So his top one hundred draft of the Patriots is
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: Will Campbell at four, Landon Jackson at thirty eight defensive end,
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: Dylan Samson running back at sixty nine, Andrew mccouba at
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: seventy seven free safety, and at one o six everyone's
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: favorite Dante Thornton.
- 1:58:38Speaker 6: Yeah that's not bad. Mean, it's a little high for Thornton,
- 1:58:40Speaker 6: but the other right, I like all the other players
- 1:58:42Speaker 6: you know. I just I just look at a little
- 1:58:44Speaker 6: bit differently, like in terms of the outside inside thing.
- 1:58:47Speaker 6: I just like guys that can create separation and guys
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: that make big plays.
- 1:58:50Speaker 3: All right, we'll do one more call then we're gonna
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: hit the road. It's Danny in Michigan. What's up, Danny?
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:58:57Speaker 18: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:58:58Speaker 15: Guys?
- 1:58:59Speaker 6: Good?
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: Hey, Danny.
- 1:59:01Speaker 18: I just had a little two questions for you about
- 1:59:04Speaker 18: the wide receiver position. One, why can't Kayshawn Boody? I
- 1:59:09Speaker 18: know they're different types of wide receiver, but why can't
- 1:59:12Speaker 18: Kayshawan Boody have a similar career trajectory as a Nicocollins
- 1:59:17Speaker 18: who came into the league a late round draft pick
- 1:59:21Speaker 18: and a project guy, and then year three he really
- 1:59:24Speaker 18: blew up onto the scene.
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: I mean, do you see the same physical characteristics with
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: those two players?
- 1:59:31Speaker 18: No, And I said that they're not the same type
- 1:59:33Speaker 18: of player. But I saw Nico Collins play at Michigan
- 1:59:38Speaker 18: who was not a very explosive receiver all the time.
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: But he's a pretty imposing receiver. Would you say, like
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: just physically he would.
- 1:59:48Speaker 18: Say just physically six four, Yeah, he's a pretty big guy.
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that would be my only, my only thing.
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: But I mean your larger point is is not off.
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: I think that's why Evan and I thought it would
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: be a little bit early to put the plug on that,
- 2:00:00Speaker 4: because I do think there's a chance that he's still ascending.
- 2:00:04Speaker 4: We don't know exactly. I think he got better from
- 2:00:06Speaker 4: year one to year two, will he get better again
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: from year two to year three?
- 2:00:10Speaker 6: Or even if he's just the guy that he is now,
- 2:00:12Speaker 6: Like if you're not feeding that position one hundred and
- 2:00:16Speaker 6: fifty targets in the season and that's more of like
- 2:00:19Speaker 6: a secondary position in your offense, then Kishon Boody can
- 2:00:23Speaker 6: be a third receiver on in your offense. Is he
- 2:00:26Speaker 6: the high volume guy? No, But if Diggs is going
- 2:00:28Speaker 6: to be that or digs in a rookie are going
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: to be that, then the booty's just the other guy
- 2:00:33Speaker 6: that's kind of out there.
- 2:00:35Speaker 4: And when did Collins get drafted, by the way, do you.
- 2:00:38Speaker 6: Remember, I want to say, third round?
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a lot earlier than the sixth.
- 2:00:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, like you said, like Nico Collins is six',
- 2:00:46Speaker 6: four the four to, four like he's kind of LIKE
- 2:00:48Speaker 6: Dk metcalf his.
- 2:00:50Speaker 4: Size, Yeah i'll keep my thoughts as to different versions
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: Of Nico collins off the. YEAR i don't have to,
- 2:00:55Speaker 4: know BUT i Guess i'm wondering maybe if he learned
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: something at THE nfl level.
