- 0:20Speaker 1: Dan Chumbler, Hayden Sammick, Tressa Croaker, and Carl Young. This
- 0:25Speaker 1: is a ten round quiz show with questions from meat
- 0:27Speaker 1: eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:33Speaker 1: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing interject,
- 0:39Speaker 1: what do you got my boy? His friend Teddy makes
- 0:44Speaker 1: stop motion lego videos on YouTube. Really that takes some
- 0:49Speaker 1: talent and he was very excited because he hit thirty
- 0:52Speaker 1: eight subscribers. Is he monetizing that yet? No, and his
- 0:56Speaker 1: dad he wants a new huge lego set, but his
- 0:59Speaker 1: dad won't get it to him until he hits a
- 1:01Speaker 1: thousand subscribers his channel. I was wondering where this was
- 1:09Speaker 1: mac M four five upper case m AC uppercase M,
- 1:14Speaker 1: then lower case ACM four five mac M four five
- 1:19Speaker 1: On YouTube. You can watch all of Teddy's listen This
- 1:23Speaker 1: kid's name is Teddy Roosevelt. You can watch all that
- 1:27Speaker 1: that's his real name. You can watch all of his
- 1:30Speaker 1: uh stop motion Lego videos. Subscribe now. Very good use
- 1:35Speaker 1: of this platform was relevant, though. Are you gonna tell
- 1:39Speaker 1: his dad that you just plug this? Are you just
- 1:41Speaker 1: gonna let it like happened? He's gonna be able to
- 1:45Speaker 1: go to his dad and be like, Okay, I get
- 1:48Speaker 1: the huge Lego set. He might want to because it's
- 1:51Speaker 1: gonna go way above. What do you say a thousand?
- 1:53Speaker 1: I think he said Teddy's so because like their day,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I gotta call people to subscribe at dinner and he's like,
- 2:00Speaker 1: Teddy's up to thirty eight. I don't let him down.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I would go to dad and say, do I get
- 2:09Speaker 1: a new set for every thousand? They're really good videos.
- 2:13Speaker 1: He likes. It's painstaking, Jimmy, you'll help him with it now, man,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you just set it all up. Take a picture, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: moving around, Take a picture. He does fights and concerts
- 2:22Speaker 1: and yeah, what should he invest in Phil when he
- 2:24Speaker 1: gets that new set? What would be your pick? If
- 2:26Speaker 1: you were getting a new Lego set right now and
- 2:28Speaker 1: you were Teddy? You know what I do? When I
- 2:30Speaker 1: was a kid. One thing. It's fun. You can get
- 2:32Speaker 1: it like a really clean piece of glass. And what
- 2:35Speaker 1: you do is if you angle it right, you can
- 2:37Speaker 1: like tape your legos to that and make him like
- 2:39Speaker 1: look like you can make him fly out. Oh yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I got some tips. Now for the stat of the week.
- 2:48Speaker 1: This week we're looking at what's the easiest and hardest
- 2:51Speaker 1: category and meat Eater trivia. Steve, do you have any
- 2:53Speaker 1: predictions as far as what would be the easiest category
- 2:56Speaker 1: versus the hardest category? I'll tell you the stupidest category,
- 3:00Speaker 1: h um. Some of the culinary ones are such a stretch.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Is that all right? I'd say that's fair, so is that?
- 3:09Speaker 1: But that's my answer. The hardest, you're easiest? Stupidest? Okay, stupidest?
- 3:14Speaker 1: How about hardest your easiest. I'm gonna ask Yanni if
- 3:17Speaker 1: you're not gonna play along. I don't know, because I
- 3:19Speaker 1: feel like ask ny because I think you told me
- 3:21Speaker 1: in my stats. I think I's like, I think I
- 3:23Speaker 1: do worse on I think the hunting questions is where
- 3:25Speaker 1: I failed. This is for the entire room, though for
- 3:28Speaker 1: every question ever asked in the history of meat Eater Trivia.
- 3:31Speaker 1: In our four verticals for our four Oh, culinary, for sure,
- 3:33Speaker 1: that's the easiest, hardest, You're easiest, Oh, hardest, because it's
- 3:39Speaker 1: all that stuff like what if you put vandegar on lobster.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's like stuff that no one, Uh huh. How about easiest?
- 3:45Speaker 1: What do you think is the easiest category? Conservation? Any
- 3:49Speaker 1: other predictions? Easiest? Conservation? Yeah, I was gonna say conservation, hardest,
- 3:54Speaker 1: hunting easiest. Here's where we have. I got these numbers
- 3:57Speaker 1: by tracking total correct answers given against total questions asked
- 4:01Speaker 1: in each of our four verticals. The easiest category is cooking,
- 4:06Speaker 1: where players get forty players have a forty nine percent
- 4:10Speaker 1: chance of getting the right answer. That's followed by conservation
- 4:13Speaker 1: at forty six percent and hunting at forty five percent.
- 4:16Speaker 1: The hardest category is fishing, where players have a forty
- 4:19Speaker 1: two percent chance of getting the right answer. So the
- 4:22Speaker 1: easiest category cooking, hardest category fishing, But there is only
- 4:26Speaker 1: a seven percent difference in player performance between the two.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You know what, It does make sense because the cooking
- 4:33Speaker 1: questions rarely have anything to do if hunting their fishing does. Right.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Tu up, Brody, Now here's our zero percent or questions
- 4:40Speaker 1: are you did you lose your status Tosa? Why are
- 4:46Speaker 1: you ran it? Well? So he compiles stats for me,
- 4:51Speaker 1: does a great job. His name is Matthew. Every now
- 4:53Speaker 1: and then we send him a little met Eater care package,
- 4:56Speaker 1: things that you signed or things we have coming out.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And then Matthew puts all these stats together for me
- 5:01Speaker 1: in an Excel sheet. Some things I have to go
- 5:03Speaker 1: in and manual attract other things, Uh, he just tracks
- 5:05Speaker 1: for me. Now here's our zero percentage question the week,
- 5:08Speaker 1: which tests how much knowledge our players have retained from
- 5:11Speaker 1: previous games. It's terrible. This was from episode three fifty
- 5:15Speaker 1: seven and the topic is hunting, and nobody got this
- 5:18Speaker 1: question right three fifty seven. What state has the highest
- 5:22Speaker 1: population of big horn sheep? Does anybody know it? Steve?
- 5:29Speaker 1: I can't remember. You weren't here that episode. Oh that's
- 5:33Speaker 1: why this fresh for you. Are you ready? Colorado, no, Arizona, no, Nea? Yes, Nevada, Yanna,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you were here that episode. The incorrect answers we had
- 5:45Speaker 1: given were Idaho, Montana, and Colorado. Nevada has twelve thousand
- 5:48Speaker 1: big horns, which is nearly twice as many as states
- 5:51Speaker 1: like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Arizona should be easy, are terrible.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't even look into it for your sheep. They
- 6:03Speaker 1: do give away the most nonresident tags in Nevada, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yanni said, draw odds are terrible. Don't bother. We have
- 6:09Speaker 1: some housekeeping to get you. In a previous game of trivia,
- 6:12Speaker 1: we had a tie breaking question about where the Secretary
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the Interior falls in the line of presidential succession.
- 6:18Speaker 1: As we learn that person is eighth out of eighteen
- 6:21Speaker 1: in line for office. Listener leland Hart wrote in to
- 6:25Speaker 1: add some clarity on how we got there. He said
- 6:28Speaker 1: that the order of presidential succession has been updated many times,
- 6:32Speaker 1: with the most recent change happening in two thousand and six,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and although it's assumed that the order is determined by
- 6:37Speaker 1: some amount of prestige, it's actually much simpler than that.
- 6:41Speaker 1: For most of the list, the order goes by the
- 6:44Speaker 1: age of the department, and almost everything after the third
- 6:47Speaker 1: position reflects that. So when a new position is added
- 6:51Speaker 1: to the cabinet, that position is slotted in at the
- 6:54Speaker 1: end of the list. That's why the last person in
- 6:56Speaker 1: order of succession is the Secretary of Homeland Security. It's
- 7:00Speaker 1: the newest cabinet position. Huh, so there you go. Each
- 7:06Speaker 1: time they sign goes to the something. Thank you Leland,
- 7:10Speaker 1: he wrote in from Egypt, even to point that I
- 7:13Speaker 1: wouldn't send him sign hat too far away. Also, in
- 7:19Speaker 1: a previous game, we had a question about what food
- 7:22Speaker 1: items spoon University liken to a camp fire pannini. The
- 7:25Speaker 1: answers given were hobo pies, iron pies, and pudgy pies.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But about twenty listeners wrote in asking if we'd also
- 7:31Speaker 1: accept the answer mountain pie, which is what many folks
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the Appalachian region like to call them. Mountain pie,
- 7:37Speaker 1: does seem to be synonymous with those others, So yes,
- 7:42Speaker 1: said mountain pie. That would be a correct answer. You know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's hilarious. We're working on our outdoor cookbook. We have
- 7:48Speaker 1: a big we have a hobo pie section. It's like
- 7:51Speaker 1: everybody's like, oh, you talking about this a little bit,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but go ahead. It's just you know, times change, and uh,
- 8:00Speaker 1: if you search hobo pie, you'll get all kinds of
- 8:05Speaker 1: hits of hobo piemakers. You'll get the hit, but it's
- 8:10Speaker 1: not in the product description. So they're like everyone knows
- 8:15Speaker 1: what they are, but no one wants to say it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So you search hobo piemaker, you'll pull up a Mountain piemaker,
- 8:23Speaker 1: or you'll pull pull up Urban Dictionary or something. So
- 8:26Speaker 1: what is the new cookbook? Call them what we settle on?
- 8:29Speaker 1: It was settled on iron pies, iron pies, pies, which
- 8:34Speaker 1: doesn't sound that taste when he's making a pie out
- 8:36Speaker 1: of a hobo. She'll be in next for this round
- 8:40Speaker 1: is a three, meaning a winner. She gets six correct answers,
- 8:42Speaker 1: but I'm actually predicting they'll actually get eight. With that,
- 8:46Speaker 1: we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I need to know what I shoulday win everything? How's
- 8:55Speaker 1: that just tend to win everything games? I got stat
- 9:08Speaker 1: for you to look, Hum, how many people in the
- 9:11Speaker 1: room right? How does that affect high score ties? It's
- 9:15Speaker 1: a good question because if you had fifty people in here,
- 9:17Speaker 1: someone's gonna get a perfect score, which is why I
- 9:19Speaker 1: think today's winner could get an eight. We have some
- 9:22Speaker 1: heavy hitters playing along. I want another stat. I want
- 9:25Speaker 1: to know if I've ever won after getting first question wrong,
- 9:29Speaker 1: because I don't feel it. I feel like it's all
- 9:31Speaker 1: over no. I mean, that's why that's why yes day
- 9:33Speaker 1: I was out at the eight point thing because first
- 9:36Speaker 1: question is wrong. Yeah. Question one. The topic is foraging.
- 9:42Speaker 1: What state produced the most maple syrup in twenty twenty two?
- 9:46Speaker 1: And this is multiple choice. Your options are Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont,
- 9:51Speaker 1: or West Virginia. What state produced the most maple syrup
- 9:58Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two? Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont, West Virginia. Some
- 10:06Speaker 1: quick answers from folks is like maple syrup? Yes, all right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: room looks fairly confident, Brodie. How does that change your answer?
- 10:19Speaker 1: You're talking around this room right now. You see confidence
- 10:22Speaker 1: of Well, they were quick answers, saw some putting marker
- 10:26Speaker 1: to board before I even gave one. Four again, What
- 10:30Speaker 1: state produced the most maple syrup in twenty twenty two? Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont,
- 10:34Speaker 1: West Virginia. Does everybody have an answer? You know that
- 10:37Speaker 1: little rangement we have where you read the one I
- 10:39Speaker 1: crossed out too? Would you mind doing that? Okay? Did
- 10:42Speaker 1: you cross out three of them? I haven't crossed one
- 10:43Speaker 1: out yet? Okay? Are you looking at you? In an
- 10:51Speaker 1: into something here? I'm good. Confidence is now leaking. I
- 10:57Speaker 1: see Canada catching answers. I'll accept it. Rody, Steve, are
- 11:03Speaker 1: you ready? Yeah? Yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 11:09Speaker 1: We have Steve saying Wisconsin crossed out Vermont, Hayden saying Vermont,
- 11:14Speaker 1: Dan saying Wisconsin crossed out Vermont. Brodie sang Vermont, Tressa
- 11:18Speaker 1: sang Maine, Carl saying Maine, Randall sang Vermont, Jannis saying Wisconsin.
- 11:24Speaker 1: There's a right answer in the room. Well, nobody said
- 11:26Speaker 1: West Virginia. West Virginia wasn't right. The correct answer was Vermont.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Damn I crossed it. Though there are no trick questions.
- 11:37Speaker 1: That question was should make you give the right But
- 11:40Speaker 1: I thought, I think I thought Wisconsin was like a
- 11:43Speaker 1: sleeper state. Yeah. In twenty twenty two, Vermont produced two
- 11:47Speaker 1: point five million gallons of maple syrup, which is half
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the entire country's production. That's followed by New York
- 11:54Speaker 1: at eight hundred forty five thousand gallons, Maine at six
- 11:57Speaker 1: hundred seventy two thousand gallons, with Johnson at four hundred
- 12:01Speaker 1: forty thousand gallons, and Michigan at one hundred and ninety
- 12:04Speaker 1: thousand gallons. If you want to learn how to tap
- 12:06Speaker 1: a tree, then go to the meadeater dot com and
- 12:08Speaker 1: check out Jenna Roselle's article called how to make maple syrup?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Question too. Man, We're kids were drill holes into every
- 12:18Speaker 1: button question to the topics conservation. This next great question
- 12:24Speaker 1: comes to as via John Schlessinger. If you have a
- 12:27Speaker 1: question you think is right from meat Eater Trivia, you
- 12:29Speaker 1: can send it to trivia at the meadeater dot com.
- 12:33Speaker 1: What late night comedian had his show submit absurd drawings
- 12:37Speaker 1: to the twenty twenty one federal duck stamp competition? No
- 12:44Speaker 1: answer from the room quite yet. The question is, what
- 12:48Speaker 1: late night comedian had his show submit absurd drawings to
- 12:52Speaker 1: the twenty twenty one federal duck stamp competition. When you
- 12:56Speaker 1: say late night comedian, do you mean late night host? Correct? Okay,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I feel like the game's changed a lot. Man, This
- 13:05Speaker 1: is very conservation centric question. Just kick had coming to kick? Okay, No,
- 13:12Speaker 1: it's just like it's not even fun anymore. What late
- 13:16Speaker 1: night comedian had his show submit absurd drawings to the
- 13:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty one federal duck stamp competition? You know Phil
- 13:26Speaker 1: kind of always roots against me, he does, he might
- 13:29Speaker 1: start it's been so bad, how might start rooting for me? Yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: you're having a heel turn in rastling, Steve, I mean
- 13:37Speaker 1: that that turn for me happened a few weeks ago.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I've I've been witnessing it on your side now, Yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 1: in rastling, Steve, it'd be the heels the bad guy,
- 13:45Speaker 1: and then they can have a turn to a baby face.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So you're now in your baby face era? Is that
- 13:49Speaker 1: where we're going? Okay, well I missed everything there? What
- 13:53Speaker 1: kind of rassling? W W let's get out on it.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer for the Late night host?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying,
- 14:05Speaker 1: Conan O'Brien, Hayden saying Jimmy Kimmel, Dan saying, Leno Brodie
- 14:10Speaker 1: saying Jimmy Fallon, Tressa saying, Colbert Carl saying John Oliver,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Randall saying Jimmy Fallon, Janis saying Kimmel. We have a
- 14:19Speaker 1: correct answer in the room. It's John Oliver, John Oliver's
- 14:27Speaker 1: HBO show. Last week, Tonight submitted five drawings to the
- 14:31Speaker 1: Duck Stamp competition and then auctioned off the originals. The
- 14:34Speaker 1: five pieces of art sold for nearly one hundred thousand dollars,
- 14:38Speaker 1: which was donated to the federal duck Stamp program. The
- 14:41Speaker 1: satirical paintings included things like ducks hunting humans, duck's judging
- 14:46Speaker 1: duck stamps, and the laughing dog from the nineteen eighty
- 14:49Speaker 1: four video game Duck Hunt. Question three, The topic is biology.
- 14:55Speaker 1: About eighty percent of people who contract this viral disease
- 14:59Speaker 1: develop all up a fear of water or flying as
- 15:02Speaker 1: a symptom. About eighty percent of people who contract this
- 15:09Speaker 1: viral disease develop a fear of water or flying as
- 15:13Speaker 1: a symptom. The topic is biology. Quick answer from Brody
- 15:17Speaker 1: and Steve rest of the room. No, I think Randa
- 15:20Speaker 1: would have been pretty speedy about it. Randall, you got
- 15:22Speaker 1: this one right, I think so. Me and Random are right.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Joannis hasn't even picked up his board. My world's are
- 15:32Speaker 1: quiet right now in such a weird way. I'll tell
- 15:34Speaker 1: you the Okay, that might help some folks out. They're
- 15:37Speaker 1: never gonna no, okay, No, they've never made the connection.
- 15:40Speaker 1: About eighty percent of people who contract this viral disease
- 15:44Speaker 1: develop a fear of water or flying as a symptom.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Who's going to come up
- 15:51Speaker 1: with an answer? Brody? You good? Oh? Yeah, go ahead
- 15:55Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. You have Steve saying rabies, Hayden
- 15:58Speaker 1: saying rabies, sang lime, Brody's sang rabies, Tressa without an answer,
- 16:04Speaker 1: Carl saying rabies, Randall saying rabies, Giannis saying hepatitis. The
- 16:11Speaker 1: correct answer is rabies. Funny. It's estimated that if you
- 16:17Speaker 1: read old yell you get, you get the hydrophobia. Flying.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's estimated that eighty percent of everybody you couldn't fly,
- 16:27Speaker 1: everyone like I'm not. It's estimated that about eighty percent
- 16:34Speaker 1: of human rabies cases are labeled as furious rabies, which
- 16:38Speaker 1: causes hydrophobia and aerophobia. Hydrophobia is a fear of water,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and aerophobia is a fear of fresh air, drafts or flying.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Between two thousand and nine and twenty nineteen, there were
- 16:50Speaker 1: twenty five cases of human rabies in the United States,
- 16:53Speaker 1: with only two of those people surviving. Boone he had
- 16:57Speaker 1: a he was campos from as one time and uh
- 17:02Speaker 1: rabid wolf ran into their fire circle, and witnesses commented
- 17:08Speaker 1: that it was fixated on a particular guy whoa bid
- 17:13Speaker 1: him developed rabies. They were night hunting for deer, just
- 17:18Speaker 1: drifting down rivers, the pine not fires in a dugout
- 17:22Speaker 1: canoe and he went berserk from hydrophobi man had to
- 17:27Speaker 1: be constrained. They bought brought him home and he died
- 17:30Speaker 1: in his bed. You see videos some times if people
- 17:33Speaker 1: who have the hydrophobia and it's scared, be scared hydrophobi hydrophobi. Uh,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I can't tell about my world's quide. Yeah, what is it?
- 17:44Speaker 1: I thought that was your world? A friend, um, Tim Collins,
- 17:49Speaker 1: he sends me Vermont honey every year, sorry, Vermont maple
- 17:53Speaker 1: syrup every year from his sugar shack. Okay, and guess
- 17:57Speaker 1: what he got? Had a bat in his house and
- 17:59Speaker 1: grabbed the at and got scratched. And how to do
- 18:03Speaker 1: the raby's treatment. That's how my world's a quiet. And
- 18:05Speaker 1: those are some like big needles that come with a
- 18:07Speaker 1: raby's treatment. I think she talked about that terrible question
- 18:11Speaker 1: for you know what I'm saying, right, rabies, maple syrup. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 1: the topic is hunting. It's almost like this is meat
- 18:18Speaker 1: eater trivia. This next right question comes to is via
- 18:22Speaker 1: Ben Long. If you have a question you think is
- 18:24Speaker 1: right for meat eater Trivia, you can send it to
- 18:25Speaker 1: trivia to meat eater dot com. Long Ben is a
- 18:28Speaker 1: contributor to our website. You can read a lot of
- 18:30Speaker 1: his articles. He's got to coming coom as well. What
- 18:34Speaker 1: famous firearms writer has a museum named after him in Lewiston, Idaho?
- 18:42Speaker 1: What famous firearms writer has a museum named after him
- 18:47Speaker 1: in Lewiston, Idaho? Steve, did you know this? No? Okay?
- 18:51Speaker 1: But a quick answer, also quick answers from Randall and Brodie,
- 18:55Speaker 1: little little deductive reasoning. This is question for again. The
- 18:59Speaker 1: topic is haunting. What famous firearms writer has a museum
- 19:04Speaker 1: named after him in Lewiston, Idaho? Be honest? How you
- 19:10Speaker 1: feel about that answer? Um? I did the stanch approach?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Is Steve Oka? Probably the exact same approach? A good chance.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I almost went with my old nickname. Oh yeah, just
- 19:30Speaker 1: for fun, But I want to get one point, so
- 19:32Speaker 1: I'm staying in the game. Everybody is your old nickname?
- 19:36Speaker 1: Still writing? He is? Isn't he? I don't know? Yanni
- 19:39Speaker 1: Van's wall? Yeah? Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 19:47Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying O'Connor, Hayden
- 19:50Speaker 1: saying Jack O'Connor, Dance saying no idea Brodie saying Jack
- 19:55Speaker 1: O'Connor trusted without an answer, Carl saying Hornedy, Randall saying Connor,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Jannis saying O'Connor. They got it right. The correct answer
- 20:03Speaker 1: is Jack O'Connor. The Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage and Education
- 20:08Speaker 1: Center opened in two thousand and six. It has the
- 20:11Speaker 1: complete collection of O'Connor's books and articles, as well as
- 20:14Speaker 1: some of his taxidermy photographs and guns. O'Connor is best
- 20:18Speaker 1: known for being Outdoor Life's firearms editor for over three decades.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You know what the best thing about his writing was,
- 20:26Speaker 1: we saw a flock of sheep, so we all started
- 20:28Speaker 1: shooting him into it, and he'd be like, I got
- 20:32Speaker 1: one in his room. The first took his nose off,
- 20:38Speaker 1: the fourth shot, but the fifth shot really anchored him.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Just goes to show what you can do with it.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Two seven. He loved the two seventy. I think a
- 20:48Speaker 1: lot of folks shoot at two seventy today. This person
- 20:52Speaker 1: that's uh, you know, dead, that has a museum named
- 20:55Speaker 1: after him. We're not being it's like read his stuff.
- 20:58Speaker 1: It's he loves that stuff. It was different times, No,
- 21:03Speaker 1: because he had a very precise system for aiming distance.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He developed the max point blank range system. Oh yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: so he'd know like two seventy three hundred yards. He's
- 21:16Speaker 1: good four hundred holds ex highly. Man. He used to
- 21:20Speaker 1: go down into He used to go down into Snore
- 21:22Speaker 1: back in the old days. Man, they'd drive down there
- 21:25Speaker 1: in like a model T and ship in the twenties,
- 21:27Speaker 1: shoot sheet and go and like knock on doors and yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 1: they drank warm beer back then. Question five the topic
- 21:36Speaker 1: is fishing. What ocean is the great barrier reef in?
- 21:42Speaker 1: What ocean is the great barrier reef in? It's his
- 21:47Speaker 1: question five. We will get a scoreboard update from Filled
- 21:50Speaker 1: the engineer after this. Some quick answers in the room,
- 21:54Speaker 1: some slow answers. Yannis has not come up with one yet.
- 21:57Speaker 1: What ocean is the great barrier reef? In? Dan, you
- 22:02Speaker 1: had the quickest answer. Do you know this one? I
- 22:04Speaker 1: think I do, But I've got zero right so far,
- 22:06Speaker 1: so don't bank on me. How about you, Hayden? You
- 22:11Speaker 1: were quick to draw. Yeah, I think I got it right.
- 22:14Speaker 1: You know, I'm not created these geography questions, though I
- 22:16Speaker 1: got it narrowed down. It's the toughest category you have
- 22:22Speaker 1: forty two percent chance getting it right. You're honest, doing
- 22:27Speaker 1: a lot of writing over here. You can start eliminating.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Got two answers? Okay, do you mind? Do you mind reading?
- 22:33Speaker 1: We can do that, Yanni? Did you pick an answer?
- 22:35Speaker 1: Is there a world happened here anywhere? Can you run
- 22:39Speaker 1: a staff on whether it matters if you read the
- 22:42Speaker 1: ones I crossed off? In terms of my reputation? Man,
- 22:47Speaker 1: what hurt do you want us to like? Pull listeners?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Does it make me seem petty and competitive? Okay, we'll
- 22:53Speaker 1: get that staff. Does everybody have an answer? No? No,
- 22:59Speaker 1: I gotta choose one? Which one? Spencer? No? No, Yanni,
- 23:02Speaker 1: you even camped your marker. You're not not very close
- 23:04Speaker 1: to even picking an answer. Oh, I'm just gonna use
- 23:06Speaker 1: my finger to cross one out. Rolled them all? He
- 23:11Speaker 1: rolled down the seventh Mediterranean. All right, let's go, Trust,
- 23:16Speaker 1: Are you ready go ahead and reveal your answers? We
- 23:19Speaker 1: have Steve saying south Pacific, Indian definitely Pacific. Brodie sang Pacific,
- 23:27Speaker 1: trust is saying Atlantic, Carl saying Pacific, Randall saying Pacific,
- 23:31Speaker 1: Jannis saying south Pacific. The correct answer is the Pacific.
- 23:36Speaker 1: If you said south Pacific, or Pacific. We will give
- 23:39Speaker 1: it to you. That's bullshit. The Great Barrier Reef is
- 23:42Speaker 1: in the Coral Sea, which is located off the northeastern
- 23:46Speaker 1: coast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean. It's the world's
- 23:49Speaker 1: largest coral reef system, spanning across one hundred thirty three
- 23:53Speaker 1: thousand square miles. It's home to over seventeen hundred types
- 23:56Speaker 1: of fish, sharks, raids, dolphins, and whales. Right south specific
- 24:00Speaker 1: you should conclude that in the end of them, Phil,
- 24:03Speaker 1: we are America. For if you had a continent question, Yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: what if what if someone said you know, where's this
- 24:12Speaker 1: and what state is this in and you said eastern Montana? Yeah, exactly,
- 24:17Speaker 1: good point, Randall. Let's get a world map out and
- 24:24Speaker 1: see if it says south Pacific. Just says specific. No, no, no,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm telling you what is the leader board? After five questions,
- 24:36Speaker 1: Dan and Trussa are still scrapping to get on that board.
- 24:39Speaker 1: They've got zero points. Uh, Janis Putellis has two points.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Stephen Ronella has three points, as do Hayden and Carl
- 24:47Speaker 1: and then tied for first place of four points are
- 24:49Speaker 1: Randall and Brody. Seems familiar still a game man nipping
- 24:56Speaker 1: at the hea. Question six. The topic is deer camp.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Name one name one of the three states with the
- 25:17Speaker 1: most Meat Eater podcast listeners. Full shit. Now, before Steve
- 25:23Speaker 1: or Dan get concerned, I cleared this question with the
- 25:27Speaker 1: suits here Meat Eater to make sure I wasn't giving
- 25:28Speaker 1: away any classified information. They said it was a fine
- 25:32Speaker 1: question to ask, and here it is. Name one of
- 25:35Speaker 1: the three states with the most Meat Eater podcast listeners. Steve,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you're gonna get this one right. I got a good
- 25:46Speaker 1: chance getting right. Okay, if you said the state, that'd
- 25:50Speaker 1: be tough. One of the three be honest without an answer,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and you can't list two hoping that one of them
- 25:57Speaker 1: is right. One, You're gonna get it wrong. Randall, you've
- 26:00Speaker 1: had the shortest lifespan here meat Eater. How do you
- 26:03Speaker 1: think your chances are on this question? Yeah, I don't
- 26:05Speaker 1: think I have any access to this data. One fifty
- 26:09Speaker 1: if I write down four, if you email where you
- 26:12Speaker 1: email the data person, he would have just emailed you
- 26:14Speaker 1: the answer. So it's not like I didn't know that foresight.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Poor Carl, I know this is not an access. It's
- 26:21Speaker 1: not an access, it's a lack of curiosity, you can do.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Poor Carl doesn't even work at Meat Eater, he works
- 26:28Speaker 1: at FHF. But you you handle the customer service cost.
- 26:30Speaker 1: So maybe that gives you the greatest advantage in the room.
- 26:33Speaker 1: That's that's a good point. I don't know if it
- 26:35Speaker 1: gives me that big of an advantage, but I'm hoping
- 26:38Speaker 1: that my answers right. I literally look at these metrics
- 26:41Speaker 1: daily and I don't know the answer. Does everybody have
- 26:44Speaker 1: an answer? One of the three states with the meats
- 26:49Speaker 1: podcast listeners, it's not per capitals the most interesting. Are
- 26:53Speaker 1: you ready, Carl, yep, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 26:56Speaker 1: We have Steve saying Texas, Hayden sang New York and
- 27:00Speaker 1: saying Minnesota, Brodie saying Texas. Tressa is saying Wisconsin, Carl
- 27:05Speaker 1: saying Pennsylvania, Randall saying Pennsylvania, Jannis saying California. We have
- 27:11Speaker 1: some correct answers in the room. The three states are Texas, California,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and Michigan. Damn it, damn it's nice a year to
- 27:22Speaker 1: see your home state up in there. So me and
- 27:25Speaker 1: Randler neck and neck. Texas has the most meat Eater
- 27:28Speaker 1: podcast listeners and that's followed by California, Michigan, Washington, and Colorado. Similarly,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the cities with the most listeners are Denver, Seattle, Minneapolis, Dallas,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and Chicago macam forty five. On YouTube question seven, the
- 27:48Speaker 1: topic is cooking. This is our listener question of the week,
- 27:50Speaker 1: which was won by Shelby Acker for sending this great question.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Shelby is going to get a book signed by Steve.
- 27:56Speaker 1: That's not your wife is now sometimes referred to as
- 28:01Speaker 1: the butcher's tender loin. This steak dangles from an animal's diaphragm.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Steve thinks it's a race. If it was, he did
- 28:11Speaker 1: win quick answer from Steve Brodie Randall again the question
- 28:20Speaker 1: sometimes referred to as the butcher's tender loin. This steak
- 28:24Speaker 1: dangles from an animal's diaphragm. Steve, you know this one?
- 28:30Speaker 1: Oh not no idea? Oh Spencer, thank you for that, man. Yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 1: that was That was the funniest thing I've heard today.
- 28:37Speaker 1: What sure your joke just now that Steve is still
- 28:41Speaker 1: laughing at Oh the race? Okay, yeah, I thought this
- 28:43Speaker 1: question had again looking for the name of the steak
- 28:52Speaker 1: that's sometimes called the butcher's tender loin. It is good too. Man.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I used to cook a pile of them down there.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Ye man, Oh, come on it. How do you know
- 29:06Speaker 1: Randall wasn't like that's like his favorite rest. Janni was
- 29:09Speaker 1: Montani was flipping those things back before he became Yanni.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Van's wall oh, sometimes referred to is the butcher's tender loin.
- 29:24Speaker 1: This steak dangles from an animal's diaphragm. Does everybody have
- 29:28Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 29:31Speaker 1: Steve saying hanger, Hayden sang hanger, crossed out skirt Dance
- 29:36Speaker 1: saying brisket, Brodie sang hanger, Tressa sang filet, Carl sang skirt,
- 29:42Speaker 1: Randall sang hanger, Jannis sang hanger. The correct answer is
- 29:48Speaker 1: hanger steak. We'd also accept butcher steak or bistro steak.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Man Uh. A friend of mine owns North Bridger bison,
- 29:57Speaker 1: and the other day, you know, he does cost them
- 29:59Speaker 1: like he'd buy one, like he just goes out and
- 30:01Speaker 1: shoots it, and the goals of the slaughter plant and
- 30:03Speaker 1: then you get it. And I was out there and
- 30:05Speaker 1: he shot one, and he gave me the hanger steak
- 30:06Speaker 1: off that thing like how big is it off of bison? Oh? Sizeable? Man.
- 30:12Speaker 1: We made well so for six of us at dinner.
- 30:15Speaker 1: We did for jitas with it and had a little leftovers.
- 30:18Speaker 1: It's good, very nice. I used to package all their bison. Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 1: in Manhattan. Yep, I worked out there for a while.
- 30:24Speaker 1: He's a good dude. Yeah. You're gonna see us at
- 30:26Speaker 1: the North Bridger Bison Ranch pretty soon. Here on YouTube
- 30:31Speaker 1: where we butcher a bison using Clovis tools. Now, the
- 30:35Speaker 1: butcher's tender loin nickname comes from butcher's setting the steak
- 30:38Speaker 1: assigned for themselves because customers found it too unattractive to purchase.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It is not the same as the flat iron steak,
- 30:45Speaker 1: flank steak, or skirt steak, or can be cooked in
- 30:48Speaker 1: a similar way. If you want to learn how to
- 30:50Speaker 1: prepare one, then go to the meat eator dot com
- 30:52Speaker 1: and check out Danielle Pruett's recipe for venison steak sandwiches.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Question Nate. The topic is conservation. The Three Mile Island incident,
- 31:01Speaker 1: which is considered America's worst nuclear power plant accident, occurred
- 31:06Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy nine in what State. The Three Mile
- 31:13Speaker 1: Island incident, which is considered America's worst nuclear power plant accident,
- 31:19Speaker 1: occurred in nineteen seventy nine in what state? Quick answer
- 31:23Speaker 1: from Brody and Steve and Randall, be honest. Were you
- 31:27Speaker 1: alive in nineteen seventy nine? Yes? How many years old?
- 31:31Speaker 1: Were you? One? Okay? Here? How are you doing? A
- 31:36Speaker 1: Mile Island incident? I watched like an hour and a
- 31:39Speaker 1: half documentary on this, not six months ago. I can't
- 31:42Speaker 1: remember the state. There's like an emerging pattern with Hayden
- 31:46Speaker 1: where he explains his proximity to the answer Steve. Steve
- 31:56Speaker 1: declared Hayden an emerging threat in December, but he is
- 31:59Speaker 1: yet to actually now. Then I redeclare on the waiting thread.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Okay again. The three Mile Island incident, which is considered
- 32:10Speaker 1: America's worst nuclear power plant accident, occurred in nineteen seventy
- 32:14Speaker 1: nine in what state? Steve, do you have this right?
- 32:16Speaker 1: I keep vacillating between two answers. Does everybody else have
- 32:21Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 32:25Speaker 1: Steve saying New Jersey, Hayden saying Pennsylvania, Dan saying Pennsylvania,
- 32:30Speaker 1: Brody saying Pennsylvania. Trusted Without an answer, Carl Randall saying Pennsylvania,
- 32:35Speaker 1: Jannis saying New York. The correct answer is Pennsylvania. Ou't no,
- 32:40Speaker 1: damn it. It's like ten miles down the road. Because
- 32:41Speaker 1: I watched that documentary six months ago. Well what kind
- 32:45Speaker 1: of islands they got, Hayden? What state were you born in? Island?
- 32:51Speaker 1: That was why? That was Carlo carl Is hinting at him.
- 32:56Speaker 1: On the seven point international nuclear event scale, the accident
- 33:00Speaker 1: was labeled a five. It took fourteen years to clean
- 33:03Speaker 1: up and cost one billion dollars. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
- 33:07Speaker 1: denied that the accident had any effect on wildlife, but
- 33:10Speaker 1: locals reported an increase in animal mutations, still bursts, mass deaths,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and in one case, a glowing fish. Have they not
- 33:19Speaker 1: built another nuclear power plant of that ilk? Since I
- 33:23Speaker 1: don't know about that. It's set into motion though a
- 33:26Speaker 1: lot of things to prevent it from ever happening again.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Do you have any uh recollection of that event? Brody?
- 33:34Speaker 1: I remember vaguely, like seeing it on the news, But um,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I think that's a lot of the Simpsons stuff is
- 33:39Speaker 1: based on that. Mmm. They've asked them before, which Springfield is,
- 33:44Speaker 1: uh is the Simpson set in They've always denied the answer, Um,
- 33:49Speaker 1: but I think they narrowed it down to like Kentucky
- 33:51Speaker 1: was maybe like the the springfield. But but I mean,
- 33:57Speaker 1: you know there's a three eyed fish and it and
- 34:00Speaker 1: like he works at a nuclear plant, exactly, Phil. We
- 34:04Speaker 1: have two questions left? Where do we stand? Tressa. Dan
- 34:10Speaker 1: Janis and Carl are no longer in the running. Stephen
- 34:14Speaker 1: Hayden are hanging on by their fingernails with five points apiece.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Randall has six points in Brody is in first place
- 34:20Speaker 1: with seven points. Two questions left, Question nine. The topic
- 34:26Speaker 1: is hunting. The seeds of this plant, which is the
- 34:30Speaker 1: Illinois State wild flower, are often used by deer hunters
- 34:34Speaker 1: as wind indicators. The seeds of this plant, which is
- 34:41Speaker 1: the Illinois State wild flower, are often used by deer
- 34:45Speaker 1: hunters as wind indicators. It's right, and that means you
- 34:49Speaker 1: can't catch them. A very confident room except for Randall
- 34:52Speaker 1: might do my math right, he can't be caught. We've
- 34:56Speaker 1: got two left time down one but Randall, may I
- 34:59Speaker 1: mean yes, oh yes, very confident room. Dan. You know
- 35:09Speaker 1: this one. I know this one. I have them in
- 35:11Speaker 1: my bino harness right now. Maybe Carl helped Dan cut
- 35:20Speaker 1: the chit chat again. The seeds of this plant, we'll
- 35:26Speaker 1: get to that, which is the Illinois state wild flower,
- 35:29Speaker 1: are often used by deer hunters as wind indicators. Randall,
- 35:33Speaker 1: do you have an answer or windicators? Windicators? Yeah, it's
- 35:37Speaker 1: not a good one. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 35:42Speaker 1: We have Steve saying milkweed, milkweed, milkweed, milkweed, trasted without
- 35:47Speaker 1: an answer, Carl without an answer, Randall saying cottonwood is
- 35:50Speaker 1: saying milkweed. The correct answer is milkweed. By Wins does
- 35:55Speaker 1: brody indeed win Phil He can't be caught yet. Damn it.
- 36:01Speaker 1: What a lackluster ending. In twenty seventeen, Illinois became the
- 36:07Speaker 1: first state to list the milkweed as its state wildflower.
- 36:11Speaker 1: The flower comes in various vibrant colors and produces silky
- 36:14Speaker 1: seeds in late summer and early fall. Bow hunters like
- 36:18Speaker 1: to pick those pods, then release the seeds from their
- 36:20Speaker 1: tree stand to watch them float on air. Streams follows.
- 36:24Speaker 1: You out have gotten into the monarch butterflies a little
- 36:26Speaker 1: bit there, That's right, very important for pollinators. Not many
- 36:29Speaker 1: states have a state wildflower. Good on Illinois for picking
- 36:32Speaker 1: one now it's not I mean, has to do with pollinators,
- 36:36Speaker 1: but it's the only source of food for hillars, the
- 36:41Speaker 1: only thing they eat. Work on your research a little bit.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Uh well, I wanted to tie it into hunting more
- 36:47Speaker 1: than monarchs. You give us one more scoreboard update before
- 36:50Speaker 1: we do the final question. Sure thing, Yeah, give you
- 36:55Speaker 1: the top few. Janis has five points, Steve, Randall and
- 36:57Speaker 1: Hayden all have six points, and Brodys two points ahead
- 37:00Speaker 1: with eight. Oh Man, just authoritative lead question ten. The
- 37:05Speaker 1: topic is fishing. This next great question comes to is
- 37:08Speaker 1: via Andrew Walker. If you have a question you think
- 37:10Speaker 1: is right for Meat Eater Trivia, you can send it
- 37:12Speaker 1: to trivia to meat eater dot com. In Ernest Hemingways,
- 37:16Speaker 1: the old man in the sea, what fish does Santiago
- 37:19Speaker 1: battle with before losing it to sharks? Here's how specific
- 37:23Speaker 1: I need you to be. You don't have to name
- 37:25Speaker 1: the species. You can just tell me the family. Oh
- 37:28Speaker 1: come on, ye bullshit? In Ernest Hemingways, the old man
- 37:33Speaker 1: in the sea, What fish does Santiago battle with before
- 37:37Speaker 1: losing it to sharks? Seth feels here he'd be like,
- 37:41Speaker 1: it's gotta be a walleye. Quick answers from the room.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Seems as though folks have read this book looking for
- 37:51Speaker 1: the fish that Santiago battles with, just to keep make
- 37:55Speaker 1: sure my average day is good. What do you change
- 37:58Speaker 1: in their room? I'm not changing anything again. You don't
- 38:05Speaker 1: have to go to species. You can just write the family.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Who's going to come up
- 38:11Speaker 1: with an answer? You honest, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Steve saying Marlin, Hayden saying Marlin, Dan without an answer,
- 38:20Speaker 1: Brody saying blue Marlin. No, no, no, no, no no no.
- 38:24Speaker 1: He does that, say circle bill bill fish, blue Marlin, Trau,
- 38:32Speaker 1: Carl without an answer, Randall saying sailfish. Janie saying Marlin.
- 38:36Speaker 1: The correct answer is marlin. I think you gave too
- 38:40Speaker 1: much information there. Take that Marlin is a member of
- 38:45Speaker 1: the billfish family. But that's not that's not literally it's
- 38:51Speaker 1: not to the family level. Because I looked this up.
- 38:53Speaker 1: The family may be wrong. I still want now most
- 38:58Speaker 1: folks assume I do want to quit. Here's here's why
- 39:01Speaker 1: I didn't want to go to blue Marlin. He never
- 39:03Speaker 1: writes blue Marlin, but everyone assumes because of the size
- 39:06Speaker 1: and Hemmingway like blue marlins, that it was going to
- 39:08Speaker 1: be a blue marlin. But he only ever says marlin,
- 39:10Speaker 1: which is a family of you, pointing at me as
- 39:13Speaker 1: if I'm arguing with you, Yann. Jannie asked for the
- 39:15Speaker 1: clarification here. If you said, if you said marlin or sailfish,
- 39:23Speaker 1: I would take that, but I would not accept swordfish,
- 39:26Speaker 1: which is in a different Why would you take salish?
- 39:29Speaker 1: I looked all this up. Listen here I went with sailfish. Rather,
- 39:33Speaker 1: the marlin family includes marlins and sailfish. Swordfish are in
- 39:38Speaker 1: their own family, And in Hammingway's novel, he never says
- 39:41Speaker 1: blue marlin. He always calls it a marlin. Then why
- 39:44Speaker 1: would you take sailfish because marlin is in sailfish is
- 39:47Speaker 1: in marlin family. Okay, but okay, listen, you're doing your
- 39:51Speaker 1: He never says what kind of mars is totally cock eyed?
- 39:54Speaker 1: What's the what's wrong? Okay? I'm trying to think of
- 39:59Speaker 1: how to explain this to you. It'd be like, uh,
- 40:02Speaker 1: if I said it would it would be like if
- 40:07Speaker 1: if he if Hemingway was battling a black bass and
- 40:11Speaker 1: you said at largemouth bass or smallmouth bass. I would
- 40:14Speaker 1: take that as a correct answer. It's more specific than
- 40:17Speaker 1: a black bass. But black bass is as specific as Hemingway.
- 40:20Speaker 1: But you're saying give me the family. You're accepting a member. Oh,
- 40:24Speaker 1: you're sipening a member of the different member of the family.
- 40:28Speaker 1: You're not saying, give me the family. But I said,
- 40:31Speaker 1: what is the family? It could have been a blue
- 40:33Speaker 1: marlin too. It wasn't a sales fish, but bish the
- 40:36Speaker 1: things like a thousand pounds. It drags him around for
- 40:38Speaker 1: days on end. But he never says it to blue marlin.
- 40:40Speaker 1: But I can. I know everybody knows what it is.
- 40:42Speaker 1: But he never says that. Listen, a sailfish isn't going
- 40:45Speaker 1: to drag him around for days on end. Hemingway published
- 40:49Speaker 1: Yet Brody one Farren Square. But you need to do
- 40:54Speaker 1: a little research, buddy. I couldn't have researched this any
- 40:58Speaker 1: deeper than what I did. Good game, Brody. Hemingway published
- 41:01Speaker 1: Old Man to See in nineteen fifty two and was
- 41:03Speaker 1: awarded the Pulitzer Prize for it the following year. Hamming
- 41:06Speaker 1: Away was a fanatical saltwater angler, once catching a marlin
- 41:09Speaker 1: that weighed over one thousand pounds. He actually set a
- 41:12Speaker 1: world record in nineteen thirty eight by catching seven marlin
- 41:16Speaker 1: in one day. My dad read that book Allowed to
- 41:20Speaker 1: me as a kid, and I really liked it. Read
- 41:22Speaker 1: aloud to me as a kid. Um, I'm gonna do
