- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with
- 0:50Speaker 1: Richard K. I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking
- 0:54Speaker 1: you to spend a few moments of your time with
- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work, notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and stories, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Now, the serpent was the most cunning of all the
- 1:27Speaker 2: wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said
- 1:31Speaker 2: to the woman, Did God really say you can't eat
- 1:34Speaker 2: from any tree in the garden. The woman said to
- 1:38Speaker 2: the serpent, we may eat the fruit from the trees
- 1:41Speaker 2: in the garden, But about the fruit of the tree
- 1:44Speaker 2: in the middle of the garden, God said, you must
- 1:48Speaker 2: not eat or touch it, or you will die. No,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you will not die, the serpent said to the woman.
- 1:55Speaker 2: In fact, God knows that when you eat it, your
- 1:59Speaker 2: eye will be open and you will be like God,
- 2:04Speaker 2: knowing good and evil. We know now that Satan deceived
- 2:13Speaker 2: the the deceived man through the woman that he gave him.
- 2:19Speaker 2: But yet man was not in any way guiltless. He
- 2:24Speaker 2: chose to disobey. And so I think it takes a
- 2:31Speaker 2: moment for us to be able to view what is
- 2:36Speaker 2: it that man forfeited when he's sinned. We need to read,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and this portion of the scripture is in the book
- 2:46Speaker 2: of Genesis. It is familiar to many. We're not going
- 2:51Speaker 2: to cover all of that particular portion, but we will
- 2:55Speaker 2: take a close look at segments. In the creative moment,
- 3:03Speaker 2: God made everything, and he said that it was good.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But when it came to the height of the creation,
- 3:15Speaker 2: he actually changed his description. God said, beginning in Genesis,
- 3:23Speaker 2: chapter one and verse twenty six. Then God said, let
- 3:30Speaker 2: us make man in our image, according to our likeness.
- 3:35Speaker 2: They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds
- 3:38Speaker 2: of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the
- 3:42Speaker 2: creatures that crawl on the earth. So God created man
- 3:47Speaker 2: in his own image. He created him in the image
- 3:50Speaker 2: of God. He created them male and female. God blessed them,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and God said to them, be fruitful, apply fill the earth,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the
- 4:05Speaker 2: birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on
- 4:09Speaker 2: the earth. God also said, look, I have given you
- 4:14Speaker 2: every seed bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This food will
- 4:23Speaker 2: be for you. For all the wildlife of the earth,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and for every bird of the sky, and for every
- 4:30Speaker 2: creature that crawls on the earth, everything having the breath
- 4:35Speaker 2: of life in it. I have given every green plant
- 4:40Speaker 2: for food. And it was soaked, and God saw all
- 4:44Speaker 2: that he had made, and it was very good. Evening
- 4:50Speaker 2: came and then morning the sixth day. Now, one of
- 4:56Speaker 2: the things that I want to be able to take
- 5:01Speaker 2: just a moment for us to be able to comprehend, is,
- 5:05Speaker 2: as we read, God had given man dominion over the
- 5:12Speaker 2: entire earth. Now to the expanse of this particular creation.
- 5:20Speaker 2: We have no real knowledge other than through the word
- 5:25Speaker 2: of God as to what that utopia type of existence.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But we do know that it was an existence that
- 5:39Speaker 2: was without sin. In that utopian garden, if you will,
- 5:47Speaker 2: called the garden of Eden, there was no sickness, there
- 5:53Speaker 2: was no pain, there was no being alone, there was
- 5:59Speaker 2: no despise, and see all was complete peace and contentment.
- 6:06Speaker 2: There was nothing lacking. Everything that man needed in order
- 6:13Speaker 2: to provide for his own existence, his own ability, to
- 6:22Speaker 2: provide for others, to care for the animal and wildlife,
- 6:28Speaker 2: to provide for all of the balance of his society
- 6:34Speaker 2: was there. And so he only had one command, and
- 6:41Speaker 2: that command was not just not to eat. That command
- 6:45Speaker 2: was to listen and to obey the voice of God.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Now Adam knew the voice of God. Adam knew who
- 6:57Speaker 2: he was made by. He also knew, and there's an
- 7:02Speaker 2: element in the passages that we had referred to that
- 7:07Speaker 2: he had the type of relationship with God that he
- 7:12Speaker 2: could walk with him and talk with him. There's a
- 7:15Speaker 2: scripture that states that he was able to have fellowship
- 7:22Speaker 2: and walk with him in the cool of the day. Now,
- 7:28Speaker 2: that term used in the cool of the day maybe
- 7:32Speaker 2: was referring to a comfortable time in which they would
- 7:37Speaker 2: get together. But in this particular description we can see
- 7:43Speaker 2: that Adam, which is the word given for man, had
- 7:49Speaker 2: the intimate fellowship with God that he could walk with
- 7:53Speaker 2: him and talk with him, and God would reveal to
- 7:56Speaker 2: him certain things which we may not even realize now,
- 8:04Speaker 2: but at some point we will understand what it was
- 8:08Speaker 2: that was the existence before sin, and I would like
- 8:15Speaker 2: for us to recognize why that is so important. First
- 8:22Speaker 2: of all, Adam was created in the image of God.
- 8:27Speaker 2: He was made like God, not just to be a puppet.
- 8:35Speaker 2: He was given special knowledge. He had the ability to
- 8:40Speaker 2: name every single living creature on the earth. His knowledge
- 8:48Speaker 2: and his mind was so much more advanced than what
- 8:55Speaker 2: we could conceive because it was not him hindered by
- 8:59Speaker 2: any any means of disobedience or sin. He lived in
- 9:04Speaker 2: a state of existence where he would not die. Death
- 9:11Speaker 2: was not a known subject other than by command. He
- 9:17Speaker 2: had no means of being able to interpret what that meant. Why,
- 9:24Speaker 2: Because nothing God had created died. Everything continued to produce
- 9:32Speaker 2: to live, and so that was what he could relate to.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So the knowledge of death was so farign that the
- 9:43Speaker 2: understanding of it was a matter of being able to say,
- 9:47Speaker 2: even though I don't understand what it means, I do
- 9:52Speaker 2: understand I was commanded not to disobey, because disobedience was allowed.
- 10:01Speaker 2: No matter what anybody could think. The action of disobedience
- 10:07Speaker 2: against God, who created everything, has consequences and those consequences
- 10:14Speaker 2: brought us to the place where that creation was changed.
- 10:20Speaker 2: It was changed because man gave up dominion. He did
- 10:28Speaker 2: it because he disobeyed. But because he disobeyed, God was merciful.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Now was he merciful to the serpent the description of
- 10:41Speaker 2: Satan the falling angel? Or was he merciful to man? Well,
- 10:47Speaker 2: I don't think that we can say he was merciful
- 10:51Speaker 2: to Satan, because the scripture states that after the fall
- 10:58Speaker 2: of Adam, God pronounced a curse on Satan. He took
- 11:05Speaker 2: him from the existence that he created him, and he
- 11:09Speaker 2: made him to be a creature that would be reviled
- 11:15Speaker 2: and in many ways feared by all that would see him,
- 11:21Speaker 2: or sense him, or know that he is there. And
- 11:27Speaker 2: the scripture says that the Lord God said to the serpent,
- 11:32Speaker 2: because you have done this, you are cursed more than
- 11:36Speaker 2: any livestock and more than any wild animal. You will
- 11:41Speaker 2: move on your belly and eat dust all the days
- 11:45Speaker 2: of your life. I will put hostility between you and
- 11:50Speaker 2: the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He
- 11:54Speaker 2: will strike your head and you will strike his heel.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Now that was God, the creator speaking to his creation,
- 12:07Speaker 2: the creature who deceive mankind by lying to and deceiving he.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Now in this particular area, he goes on and he
- 12:19Speaker 2: explains how man will continue to live, that he will
- 12:24Speaker 2: intensify labor pains when eve or women will bear children.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And he also states that your desire will be to
- 12:36Speaker 2: dominate your husband, yet he will dominate you. Instead of
- 12:40Speaker 2: being in agreement, they became in conflict. And he also
- 12:45Speaker 2: said to Adam, because you listen to your wife's voice
- 12:49Speaker 2: and ate from the tree about which I commanded, you
- 12:52Speaker 2: do not eat from it. Now. The ground is cursed
- 12:56Speaker 2: because of you. You're going to eat from it by
- 12:58Speaker 2: means of painful labor all the days of your life.
- 13:02Speaker 2: It's going to produce thorns and thistles for you. But
- 13:06Speaker 2: you'll eat the plants of the field, and you'll eat
- 13:09Speaker 2: bread by the sweat of your brow until you returned
- 13:14Speaker 2: to the ground, since you were taken from it. For
- 13:17Speaker 2: you are dust, and you will return to dust. Now.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Because of this fall that became known as original sin,
- 13:29Speaker 2: God pronounced a curse on everything that he had created
- 13:35Speaker 2: for man to have dominion over, and he pronounced a
- 13:38Speaker 2: curse on man himself. He did proclaim a promise, and
- 13:45Speaker 2: the promise that he made was what we read where
- 13:50Speaker 2: he said, he will put hostility between you, the serpent
- 13:57Speaker 2: and the woman, between your seed and hersy. He will
- 14:01Speaker 2: strike your head and you will strike his heel. This
- 14:07Speaker 2: was a promise that God was going to sin a
- 14:12Speaker 2: savior for mankind. He was going to sin, a representative
- 14:18Speaker 2: that would restore man from the place that Satan had
- 14:24Speaker 2: taken him. Because of that, God's promise is recorded there
- 14:30Speaker 2: in Genesis, chapter three and verse fifteen. We know now
- 14:35Speaker 2: that in that promise the seed of woman, which comes
- 14:41Speaker 2: to fruition in the birth of Jesus, the son of God,
- 14:48Speaker 2: made flesh. That promise stated that he would bruise the
- 14:55Speaker 2: head of the serpent. That term means that he is
- 14:59Speaker 2: going to disc joy the works of the devil, and
- 15:03Speaker 2: it also said that the serpent will bruise his heel. So,
- 15:09Speaker 2: in other words, in the actual means, their conflict would
- 15:16Speaker 2: be resolved by Jesus, the Messiah, coming and dying for
- 15:24Speaker 2: the sin of mankind. As long as sin could still
- 15:28Speaker 2: be held to the charge of man, Satan had legal rule.
- 15:34Speaker 2: He could do whatever he wanted to and man could
- 15:40Speaker 2: not do anything about it. But when Jesus came. He
- 15:46Speaker 2: broke the hole that Satan had because he paid the
- 15:51Speaker 2: price for the sin. God the Father was then satisfied
- 15:56Speaker 2: his justice had been rendered and man would no longer
- 16:02Speaker 2: be held in the sinful state. He had been purchased,
- 16:08Speaker 2: redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. You see when
- 16:12Speaker 2: we understand that God plan for man to live eternally
- 16:20Speaker 2: with him, and Satan took that plan and tried as
- 16:26Speaker 2: much as possible to keep that from happening. He was
- 16:31Speaker 2: successful to the extent that man had to work from
- 16:37Speaker 2: that point forward.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 16:42Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 17:15Speaker 1: K include Great Faithfulness by our Daily breadth and printed
- 17:20Speaker 1: by Discovery House Publishers. Again here is Richard to wrap
- 17:24Speaker 1: up today's message.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And God made it such that he actually closed the
- 17:34Speaker 2: garden of Eden. He sealed it up, and he placed
- 17:38Speaker 2: a means of being able to keep it sealed by
- 17:42Speaker 2: putting a cherubim an angelic beam with a flaming whirling
- 17:48Speaker 2: sword at the entrance to the garden of Eden. He
- 17:53Speaker 2: drove man out and would not allow him to come back,
- 17:57Speaker 2: not in his sinful And so since we understand that,
- 18:04Speaker 2: we then can see what man forfeited and why when
- 18:11Speaker 2: Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Man
- 18:16Speaker 2: then had the legal position to fight. But he is
- 18:23Speaker 2: not fighting man. He's fighting the forces of the enemy,
- 18:30Speaker 2: Satan and his strategic armies. We note that those strategic
- 18:37Speaker 2: armies are still in existence. They were not eliminated, but
- 18:44Speaker 2: their ability to rule over man was. And that is
- 18:49Speaker 2: the most important part of the lesson of God making
- 18:55Speaker 2: the promise and fulfilling it in his son Jesus, Theah.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That is today's reflection on the word.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
