- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with Alana Rizzo for our regular Thursday
- 0:08Speaker 1: edition in Alana. As always, there is action in Major
- 0:13Speaker 1: League Baseball.
- 0:13Speaker 2: There is action. Great to be with you, Ken, as always, Hello,
- 0:16Speaker 2: Fair Territory family. I tell you what, Ken, what an
- 0:20Speaker 2: off season it has been for the New York Mets
- 0:23Speaker 2: this week.
- 0:26Speaker 1: A lot. That's a great way to put it, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: you're absolutely right, Starting with the signing of Bobaschett, which
- 0:32Speaker 1: seemingly came out of nowhere. Actually go back even a
- 0:34Speaker 1: day before that, missing out on Kyle Talker. Then they
- 0:38Speaker 1: signed Bobachhett the next day, the quick pivot to Bishett,
- 0:42Speaker 1: then the trade for Luis Robert Junior, and then last
- 0:45Speaker 1: night the trade for Freddie Peralta, the ace or the
- 0:49Speaker 1: top of the rotation.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Starter that they needed.
- 0:52Speaker 1: They are a much different team than they were at
- 0:55Speaker 1: the end.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Of last season.
- 0:56Speaker 1: They expect or should be expected, to have at least
- 1:00Speaker 1: eight new players from last year on the opening day roster.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They believe they are better defensively, even though Boba Schett
- 1:08Speaker 1: and Joge Polanca will be playing positions for the first
- 1:11Speaker 1: time in their careers bo at third base, Jorge at
- 1:14Speaker 1: first and they believe that also they've changed the mix
- 1:18Speaker 1: in a satisfactory way. And they still need to address
- 1:21Speaker 1: their bullpen to a degree. But at the same time,
- 1:25Speaker 1: from where they were a month ago or a little
- 1:27Speaker 1: bit more than a month ago on those back to
- 1:29Speaker 1: back days when they lost Pete Alonzo and Edwin Diaz,
- 1:32Speaker 1: they certainly have come a long way.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Okay, So why does this make sense for the Brewers then, Ken,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I can understand from a David Stern Steve Cohen New
- 1:41Speaker 2: York Mets perspective, But why if you're the Brewers seemingly
- 1:45Speaker 2: a good chance to win the Central again, why trade
- 1:48Speaker 2: away Freddy Peralta You're top of the rotation.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Guy, Alana.
- 1:52Speaker 1: The only answer to that is this is what they do.
- 1:56Speaker 1: They did it with Corbyn Burns before that. They did
- 1:58Speaker 1: it with Josh Hater though all at the deadline, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: when they have players who are getting up there toward
- 2:07Speaker 1: free agency one year away, as Burns was, as Peralta is,
- 2:11Speaker 1: then they feel that rather than get a draft pick
- 2:14Speaker 1: in return by offering that player a qualifying offer, at
- 2:17Speaker 1: times it is better to make a trade and get
- 2:20Speaker 1: what they got in this deal, which were two top
- 2:23Speaker 1: one hundred prospects, Brendan Sprote and Jet Williams Sprote, the
- 2:26Speaker 1: right handed pitcher. William's a guy who can play infield
- 2:29Speaker 1: and outfield. Now, what's interesting about the Brewers is that
- 2:33Speaker 1: that don't always do this. They didn't do with Willia Domis.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They carried him the whole year. But in this case
- 2:41Speaker 1: they feel that they have with Brandon Woodruff and Jacob
- 2:44Speaker 1: Mazeroski and Quinn Priester Sprokee coming over now and a
- 2:47Speaker 1: number of others Logan Henderson, that they have enough depth
- 2:52Speaker 1: in their rotation to carry forward as an L Central
- 2:55Speaker 1: champions and be a really competitive team. They're all tired
- 3:00Speaker 1: of doubting them and being mistaken when we doubt them,
- 3:03Speaker 1: and I'm not going to doubt them this time. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: understand where they're coming from. And I'll say this about
- 3:08Speaker 1: Peralta too. He's really good, there's no question about that.
- 3:12Speaker 1: But there are teams that kind of balked at him
- 3:16Speaker 1: because one he had the one year of control and
- 3:18Speaker 1: that's of course not that much. And two his season
- 3:22Speaker 1: last year there were some underlying things that teams felt he.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Was perhaps a bit fortunate.
- 3:26Speaker 1: His expected era was significantly higher than his actual era,
- 3:31Speaker 1: which points to some of this. So for the Mets,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I definitely see the logic here. They needed a guy
- 3:37Speaker 1: like this, they didn't really want to pay for any
- 3:39Speaker 1: of the free agents. And from the Brewers, I also
- 3:43Speaker 1: see the logic. It's a very similar return to what
- 3:46Speaker 1: they got for Burns. Now Burns was making more money
- 3:48Speaker 1: about fifteen million versus Parolta's eight million, and for Burns
- 3:52Speaker 1: they got Joey Lopez, deal Hall and a draft pick.
- 3:55Speaker 1: They didn't get the draft pick in this deal, but
- 3:58Speaker 1: for whatever reason, he turned out this way. Maybe because
- 4:01Speaker 1: Bruins was coming off a little bit of.
- 4:02Speaker 3: A better season, I'm not exactly sure, but no.
- 4:06Speaker 1: One should have been surprised by this. We've been reporting
- 4:08Speaker 1: on the possibility for months now that they would trade Peralta.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It's just I'm sure jarring. For Brewers fans. You need
- 4:15Speaker 1: to go through this again. You get attached to guys,
- 4:17Speaker 1: they leave, It happens. It's part of the small market
- 4:20Speaker 1: issue that this sport faces. So we'll just have to
- 4:24Speaker 1: see how the Brewers come out of this, and we'll
- 4:26Speaker 1: have to see how the Mets come out of it.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Alan I wrote at length today about the Mets and
- 4:30Speaker 1: whether they actually are a better team, and certainly they're
- 4:34Speaker 1: a different team and they have the chance to be
- 4:36Speaker 1: really good, but there's also some risk there, some defensive risks,
- 4:40Speaker 1: players at new positions, some injury risk, even some chemistry
- 4:43Speaker 1: risks introducing this many new players.
- 4:47Speaker 2: And don't sleep on Tobias Meyers. Also Kennemy is a
- 4:50Speaker 2: lot of upside as well as far as the Mets
- 4:52Speaker 2: are concerned, do you think they have done enough now?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Because we remember we were waiting to see where Kyle
- 4:58Speaker 2: Tucker was going to land, Steve Cohen even tweeting on
- 5:01Speaker 2: ex waiting to see smoke. Let me know when you
- 5:04Speaker 2: see smoke, something to that effect. A quick pivot of
- 5:07Speaker 2: course to Bobaschett and now obviously Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Have they done enough?
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yes, as presently constituted, they're pretty close to where they
- 5:18Speaker 1: need to be, maybe a little bit more bullpen depth.
- 5:21Speaker 1: And remember it was Devin Williams and Luke Weaver added
- 5:24Speaker 1: to the bullpen. We talked about the offensive additions, from
- 5:28Speaker 1: Simeon to Bishett to Polanco, now to Luis Robert Jr.
- 5:33Speaker 1: They've done quite a bit to remake themselves, and they've
- 5:36Speaker 1: got a kid named Carson benj a rookie who is
- 5:39Speaker 1: going to get a chance to make the team somewhere
- 5:42Speaker 1: in the outfield. So yeah, they've done enough except for
- 5:45Speaker 1: that bullpen that they still perhaps will do a little
- 5:47Speaker 1: bit more work with. But if you look at the
- 5:51Speaker 1: Fangrafts projected team war totals right now, the Mets ranked third,
- 5:56Speaker 1: behind only the Dodgers and the Yankees. That might surprise
- 5:59Speaker 1: some people, atually surprise me, but that speaks to the
- 6:03Speaker 1: talent level on their roster. And let's not forget this
- 6:06Speaker 1: is a team built around Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor.
- 6:10Speaker 1: They're going to be competitive in one form or another.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But there are some things that can go.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Wrong, no question.
- 6:16Speaker 2: There are some big dominoes that have finally been placed. Ken,
- 6:19Speaker 2: of course, the Pee, Alonzo's, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman,
- 6:23Speaker 2: Bobashett now we know, but there are still some free
- 6:26Speaker 2: agents out there. Ken, what does this mean now as
- 6:29Speaker 2: far as the market is concerned. I forgot to mention
- 6:32Speaker 2: Cody Bellinger. Obviously, going back to the Yankees Peralta. Now
- 6:36Speaker 2: with the Mets, what does this mean for the likes
- 6:38Speaker 2: of fromer Valdez and Ejujaneo Suarez. We'll start there.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Fromer Valdez is a good question, and so is Aohania Suarez,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but a lot. I'm going to start with both Valdez
- 6:49Speaker 1: and Zach Gallen, two guys who were pected qualifying offers.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Two guys who are still free agents. Two guys that
- 6:56Speaker 1: will cost the teams that sign them draft picks as
- 6:58Speaker 1: well as money. Clearly, their markets have not been to
- 7:03Speaker 1: this point what they desired. Now there are still a
- 7:05Speaker 1: number of teams looking for starting pitching. I will list
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Orioles first among those teams. They've been active in
- 7:11Speaker 1: the free agent and trade markets, but you also have
- 7:14Speaker 1: the Blue Jays exploring some things still. You have the Giants,
- 7:18Speaker 1: the Padres other teams as well, and from that perspective,
- 7:23Speaker 1: there should be places for these guys. I would expect
- 7:26Speaker 1: the Angels or another club that is still looking for
- 7:29Speaker 1: a starting pitching at their price. And then beyond those guys,
- 7:32Speaker 1: there are pitchers like Chris Bassett, Lucas Giolito still out there,
- 7:36Speaker 1: justin Verlander, Max Schurzer, so there are still a number
- 7:39Speaker 1: of starters available now, Aohanger Suarez, another interesting guy. Jenn
- 7:43Speaker 1: McCaffrey of The Athletic My colleague there wrote that the
- 7:47Speaker 1: Red Sox really would prefer to play Marcelo Meyer at
- 7:50Speaker 1: third and then get a second basement, some kind of
- 7:54Speaker 1: option there, a good defender who could really kind of
- 7:58Speaker 1: round out their team. They've got one big move left
- 8:00Speaker 1: in them, I believe, and if they do that, people
- 8:04Speaker 1: will point toward Nico Horner. I don't know that the
- 8:06Speaker 1: Cubs are going to trade Nico Horner. Brendan Donovan also
- 8:09Speaker 1: out there in a trade, but the Red Sox don't
- 8:12Speaker 1: necessarily want to go left handed at that position. They're
- 8:14Speaker 1: pretty left handed as it is. So there are a
- 8:18Speaker 1: lot of interesting things still to come. Some first basement
- 8:21Speaker 1: out there, Rehys Hoskins, Paul Goldschmid, some outfielders Austin Hayes
- 8:25Speaker 1: might finally found this spot. Find the spot now that
- 8:28Speaker 1: the Mets and Yankees have settled with their outfield pursuits.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So there's a long way to go still in this offseason,
- 8:34Speaker 1: even though the calendar is telling us there aren't that
- 8:36Speaker 1: many days left until spring training.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Ken Jen McCaffrey's article talking about having Marcelo Meyer at
- 8:42Speaker 2: third base for the Boston Red Sox. If that's the case, Ken,
- 8:45Speaker 2: and that's where they want to play him, why not
- 8:48Speaker 2: go harder on Boba chev for second base?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Good question, And they pivoted to Ranger Suarez. They wanted
- 8:55Speaker 1: the pitcher at that point, and I'm not exactly sure
- 8:58Speaker 1: where they were on Bishop, but that is certainly a
- 9:00Speaker 1: fair question. Bashett Is, a right handed hitter, would have
- 9:03Speaker 1: fit perfectly, has great numbers at Fenway.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It all made a lot of sense.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And you could still do Suarez Aohano Suars at third base,
- 9:11Speaker 1: put Meyer at second aoh Suarez is getting the interest
- 9:15Speaker 1: from other teams as well. Cincinnati Reds have been linked
- 9:18Speaker 1: to him, The Pirates have been linked to him. His
- 9:21Speaker 1: former teams where he was so popular.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Seattle and Arizona.
- 9:23Speaker 1: There are always threats to sign Suarez. So I don't
- 9:27Speaker 1: know exactly how it's going to turn out with him,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and I don't know how exactly it's going to turn
- 9:31Speaker 1: out with the Red Sox. But again the point is
- 9:35Speaker 1: a lot of dominoes still defall.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, the Mets certainly win the week, and I
- 9:40Speaker 2: tell you what you can learn more about them on
- 9:42Speaker 2: mets pretty pretty good week to subscribe to Metstuff. Giraffe
- 9:47Speaker 2: neck Mark and James Sheianaward churning out episodes this week.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Catch their latest episode out now all about last night's trade.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Subscribe on YouTube and wherever you get your podcast to
- 9:56Speaker 2: Mets Up and the entire Foul Territory Network will be
- 9:59Speaker 2: back with Grill and Ken right after this. Welcome you
- 10:07Speaker 2: back to Fair Territory with Ken Rosenthal. Time now to
- 10:09Speaker 2: ask Ken some questions. The first question in regards to
- 10:12Speaker 2: one of those dominoes Ken that still has not fallen
- 10:15Speaker 2: Frombert Valdez. How much is Valdez's character playing into his
- 10:19Speaker 2: free agent offers. There is a narrative out there. I'm
- 10:22Speaker 2: not certain if it's true. I don't know him personally.
- 10:25Speaker 2: What are you hearing?
- 10:26Speaker 4: Ken?
- 10:27Speaker 1: It certainly has been out there about what happened to
- 10:29Speaker 1: mix up with his catcher last season with Houston. That's
- 10:33Speaker 1: something that teams have mentioned focused on his agent. Louis
- 10:38Speaker 1: Ulysses Carrera from Octagon put out a long video at
- 10:41Speaker 1: the start of the offseason, showed it to teams kind
- 10:44Speaker 1: of explaining where Fromber came from.
- 10:47Speaker 3: His background everything.
- 10:48Speaker 1: And explaining that he might not be the guy that
- 10:51Speaker 1: he was that night.
- 10:52Speaker 3: It wasn't the guy that he was that night. That
- 10:54Speaker 3: was obviously not a great look for him.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Is it playing into it? I believe it is playing
- 10:59Speaker 1: into it. And if not for that, and if not
- 11:02Speaker 1: for other questions maybe about his makeup, perhaps he'd have
- 11:05Speaker 1: a deal by now. But do I expect in the
- 11:07Speaker 1: end that from ber Valdez is going to do well? Yes,
- 11:10Speaker 1: I expect he's going to do well. And why is that, Alana.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Because he's really good and there's not a lot of
- 11:16Speaker 3: starting pictures of his caliber in this sport right now?
- 11:21Speaker 2: Where do you think is the best fit? You had
- 11:23Speaker 2: mentioned the Orioles? Is there anywhere else?
- 11:26Speaker 1: Well, the Mets were talked about before they got Peralta,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and the Giants could use a starter, There's no question
- 11:32Speaker 1: about that. And it's been curious to me, Alana, why
- 11:37Speaker 1: they have not.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Been more aggressive in the free agent market.
- 11:40Speaker 1: They've signed Adrian Hauser and they signed Tyler Molly. Okay,
- 11:43Speaker 1: those are adequate major league pictures, but you would think
- 11:47Speaker 1: that they would want maybe a higher level guy, And
- 11:50Speaker 1: then you look at them and the way they see themselves.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They like their younger pictures, and hey.
- 11:56Speaker 3: That's their evaluation.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong, but just seems to
- 12:00Speaker 1: me they could use one more.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Next question in regards to Lucas Giolito currently does not
- 12:06Speaker 2: have a home ken. Of course, he was with the
- 12:07Speaker 2: Red Sox last season, not in the postseason. But Black
- 12:11Speaker 2: Sheep twenty nine wants to know what's up with Giolito?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Guy was pretty good last year, could be relatively cheap
- 12:16Speaker 2: for a contender.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Not exactly sure what's up with Geolido and he is
- 12:20Speaker 1: in that next tier with Bassett and some of the
- 12:23Speaker 1: others Nick Martinez and one team I have not mentioned
- 12:27Speaker 1: here is the Atlanta Braves. The Atlanta Braves are another
- 12:30Speaker 1: club that needs a starting pitcher. Whether in the end
- 12:34Speaker 1: the price for a Geolido someone like that falls to
- 12:37Speaker 1: their level, whatever the level that they are willing to
- 12:39Speaker 1: spend is that remains to be seen. But are all
- 12:43Speaker 1: these guys wanting to get jobs? The answer to that
- 12:45Speaker 1: question is yes. The question is how does the game
- 12:48Speaker 1: of musical chairs end? Where? Where do the Atlanta Braves go?
- 12:52Speaker 1: Where do the Padres go, Where do the Angels go?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Where do the Giants and Orioles go again remains to
- 12:57Speaker 1: be seen.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Another question regarding the Giant because you had just said
- 13:01Speaker 2: Ken that you're a little surprised that they haven't been
- 13:03Speaker 2: as aggressive as perhaps we thought they would be in
- 13:06Speaker 2: this offseason. I see s Samuel wants to know Ken Vittello. Obviously,
- 13:10Speaker 2: Tony Vittello the new manager of the Giants, please turn
- 13:13Speaker 2: the Giants into a Herzog dynasty.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Well, I'm sure that's the giants hope for Tony Vitello.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I don't know that it's going to happen, and I
- 13:21Speaker 1: don't know that it's going to.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Happen right away.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I will say this, the Giants in spring training, but
- 13:26Speaker 1: especially once the season starts, are going to be one
- 13:29Speaker 1: of the most fascinating stories in the game. To see
- 13:32Speaker 1: Tony Vitello come from the college ranks and now into
- 13:35Speaker 1: the major leagues without any experience prior to that. That's
- 13:40Speaker 1: going to be something to be following closely. We have
- 13:44Speaker 1: abs getting introduced this year. We have the major league
- 13:47Speaker 1: game being so much different than the college game.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Similar in some.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Ways, but overall you're dealing with major league players on
- 13:54Speaker 1: major league salaries, with major league egos. A little bit
- 13:57Speaker 1: different than having control of the University of Tennessee.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Let me ask you how much more important it is
- 14:02Speaker 2: than ken to have the likes of Buster Posey and
- 14:05Speaker 2: some of the coaching staff that he has around him,
- 14:07Speaker 2: guys that do have legitimate major league experience in the
- 14:11Speaker 2: coaching ranks surrounding Tony Vittello, so he can lean on them,
- 14:15Speaker 2: at least in his first year.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Very important.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And not only do they have Buster Posey there, Dusty
- 14:20Speaker 1: Baker's going to be around, I believe Bruce Bochi as well,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and certainly they can serve as sounding boards for Vytello.
- 14:28Speaker 3: It's going to help him.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And they have brought in some experienced coaches as well,
- 14:32Speaker 1: so he should be fine in all these regards. But
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's still one thing to say it in one thing
- 14:40Speaker 1: to think it, and then another thing to get in
- 14:42Speaker 1: the dugout at seven oh five, and the game moves
- 14:45Speaker 1: a lot faster in that dugout than people might imagine.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That's exactly what I was going to say. It's a
- 14:51Speaker 2: lot faster than you think it is. I tried to
- 14:53Speaker 2: manage a team one time on a video game and
- 14:55Speaker 2: I got absolutely blasted. All right, This from Scotti broun Our,
- 14:58Speaker 2: big boss at Falterit well, the Yankees or Mets add
- 15:02Speaker 2: another starting pitcher, it seems like it still seems like
- 15:05Speaker 2: both need another arm.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I would say it's possible in both cases. Neither team
- 15:11Speaker 1: is going to rule it out, especially as I mentioned,
- 15:14Speaker 1: if the prices for some of these players drop to
- 15:17Speaker 1: a level that they feel is within their range reasonable
- 15:21Speaker 1: for them.
- 15:21Speaker 3: At this stage with their payrolls where they are.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The Yankees did add Ryan Weathers, and the Yankees have
- 15:28Speaker 1: Max Freed, Louis Heel, Ryan Weathers, Cam Schlitzler, Ryan Yarborough,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Paul Blackburn. That's to start the season, and of course
- 15:36Speaker 1: they expect Colon Rodin back sometime in the first half
- 15:40Speaker 1: and then Schmidt back perhaps in the second half. So
- 15:44Speaker 1: I don't know that they really need to do something.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Could they use one more ace type? Yeah, every team could.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I just don't see the Yankees necessarily going there. And
- 15:52Speaker 1: the Mets, I can see where they could use another starter,
- 15:56Speaker 1: but it seems to me their focus.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Is going to be the bullpen.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Now. When you look at their rotation, they're pretty high
- 16:02Speaker 1: on Coode is Sega coming back. They've got Peterson, They've
- 16:06Speaker 1: got Sean Menya. They've got Parolta now, they feel like
- 16:10Speaker 1: they're in a better place. We'll see how it all
- 16:12Speaker 1: plays out. I'm not totally convinced, And of course I'm
- 16:15Speaker 1: forgetting Nolan McLain possibly at the top of that rotation,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but that's his second year now that he's approaching, and
- 16:21Speaker 1: it might be different for him in his second year,
- 16:23Speaker 1: So there's a lot of promise there. With the Mets,
- 16:26Speaker 1: they still have Jonah Than as well as McLain among
- 16:28Speaker 1: their younger starters and some behind them as well, so
- 16:32Speaker 1: I don't see them getting another starter.
- 16:34Speaker 3: But with neither either of those teams, I'm not going
- 16:36Speaker 3: to rule anything out.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Man, And when you think about Colon Rodan coming back,
- 16:40Speaker 2: the Yankees could have one heck of rotation. Ken next
- 16:43Speaker 2: question regarding Nick Costellanos. What's happening with Castillanos in Philadelphia?
- 16:47Speaker 2: Will he still be gone by opening day? Doesn't seem
- 16:50Speaker 2: like that's a good marriage.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Uh, it is not a good marriage.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And Philly's president of Baseball Operations, David Dombrowski, has said
- 16:58Speaker 1: that Nick Castillanos will not be on their roster opening days.
- 17:01Speaker 3: So then the question becomes, Okay, who wants them.
- 17:05Speaker 1: The Padres are looking for a right handed bat, and
- 17:07Speaker 1: they're looking for one who will be inexpensive. And Costillanos
- 17:11Speaker 1: has been taking round balls or at least training somewhat
- 17:14Speaker 1: at first base, which is a position to try and fill.
- 17:16Speaker 1: They were trying to get Arnado to play first base.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Didn't want to take on very much money. That is
- 17:22Speaker 1: one possibility. Miami is always another possibility. That's where Castianos
- 17:26Speaker 1: is from. I'm sure he'd love to go there. I
- 17:28Speaker 1: don't know that they would love to have him. It's
- 17:31Speaker 1: an unknown to me, but I do expect the Phillies
- 17:34Speaker 1: to trade him. I do expect to see them pick
- 17:38Speaker 1: up most of the money in that deal. And from there,
- 17:42Speaker 1: Nick Castianos will be entering his free agent year and
- 17:46Speaker 1: is going to have to kind of rebuild his value
- 17:48Speaker 1: in the game. Can still hit, of course, the defensive
- 17:51Speaker 1: part has been an issue for him.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, some part of some really fun Philadelphia teams. It's
- 17:57Speaker 2: going to be interesting to not see Nick Costianos in
- 17:59Speaker 2: right now field or in the outfield for the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Thanks guys for getting your questions in Ken. Thanks for
- 18:05Speaker 2: those great answers. Foul Territory presents the one hundred and

- 19:44Speaker 1: Dude, Dude, dude.
- 19:53Speaker 2: This one makes me laugh. Ken, who is your dude
- 19:55Speaker 2: of the week.
- 19:56Speaker 1: My dead of the week is the Milwaukee Brewers, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: not because as they made a trade last night, per se.
- 20:02Speaker 1: My dude of the week is the Milwaukee Brewers because
- 20:05Speaker 1: they acquired yet another vertically challenged individual. And of course,
- 20:10Speaker 1: anyone who has ever seen me on television knows why
- 20:12Speaker 1: I might empathize and have great affection.
- 20:15Speaker 3: For vertically challenged players.
- 20:17Speaker 1: The Brewers are a team that has I believe now
- 20:21Speaker 1: six players position players, six position players under or five
- 20:26Speaker 1: ten or under.
- 20:27Speaker 3: There are the.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Six right there, Contraras, Ortiz, Siegler, von Burrough, and Freelick.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Now Jet Williams, who came over in the trade with
- 20:35Speaker 1: Brandon Sprote, is not on the forty man roster yet,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but he's five foot seven, so Jet, welcome to the Brewers.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And yes, the Brewers are my dudes of the week
- 20:45Speaker 1: because they.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Do not discriminate by height.
- 20:49Speaker 2: That is right, right, good things, small packages. Just look
- 20:53Speaker 2: at Ken Rosenthal and the Milwaukee Brewers. My dude of
- 20:55Speaker 2: the week. I don't know how tall he is, but
- 20:58Speaker 2: my dude of the week is Josh Rowitch. The reason
- 21:00Speaker 2: being he is now the current president of the Baseball
- 21:03Speaker 2: Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, longtime PR guy. Started his
- 21:06Speaker 2: career with the Dodgers, then of course did a great
- 21:08Speaker 2: job with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and now he's the head
- 21:10Speaker 2: of the Hall. He did a tremendous job in the
- 21:13Speaker 2: induction ceremony introducing both Andrew Jones and Carlos Peltron into
- 21:18Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame. But he did it in both
- 21:19Speaker 2: English and Spanish on national television. They did it, of
- 21:22Speaker 2: course on MLB network. That's hard to do. It's hard
- 21:25Speaker 2: to be able to address an audience in both English
- 21:28Speaker 2: and in Spanish. He is not a native Spanish speaker,
- 21:32Speaker 2: but he does a tremendous job. And he also congratulated
- 21:35Speaker 2: both Carlos Beltron in Spanish and welcoming into the Hall,
- 21:39Speaker 2: as well as Andrew Jones in Papamento, which is one
- 21:44Speaker 2: of the official languages of Curasou, which is of course
- 21:46Speaker 2: where Andrew is from, and the first native from Kirasou
- 21:51Speaker 2: to be elected into the Hall of Fame. So Josh, congratulations,
- 21:54Speaker 2: great job, not easy to do. What a week for him.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He went to Indiana. Indiana won the Natty. Big Week,
- 22:01Speaker 2: Big week for the Mets, big week for Josh Rowitch. Okay,
- 22:04Speaker 2: time now for our dork of the week? Ken, who
- 22:16Speaker 2: is your dork of the week. You're going a little
- 22:17Speaker 2: off the grid here, Alani.
- 22:20Speaker 1: You know, I hate to stray from the baseball world
- 22:24Speaker 1: with the dork of the week. However, this week we
- 22:27Speaker 1: had the firing of a head coach in the NFL
- 22:30Speaker 1: by the Buffalo Bills. And not only do they fire
- 22:33Speaker 1: their coach, Sean McDermott. You can like that or not
- 22:35Speaker 1: like that, they issued a press release in which the
- 22:38Speaker 1: fifth word was misspelled. Sean has done an admiral job,
- 22:44Speaker 1: admiral not admirable job of leading our football team for
- 22:47Speaker 1: the past nine seasons. Now I know what people out
- 22:50Speaker 1: there are thinking, Can you have typos in your stories
- 22:53Speaker 1: all the time? That's true, that occasionally does happen. However,
- 22:57Speaker 1: if I'm an organization and I'm firing a coach who
- 23:00Speaker 1: is pretty highly respected, I might want to save the
- 23:02Speaker 1: type out until after the fifth word. If I'm going
- 23:05Speaker 1: to have a typo at all.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Buffalo Bill's dorks of the.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Week, I agree with you, and I'm more insulted that
- 23:12Speaker 2: they even fired Sean McDermott to begin with, considering what
- 23:15Speaker 2: a did coach he is. By the way, Mike Rabel's
- 23:17Speaker 2: been a head coach in the AFC for a little
- 23:19Speaker 2: over a year, longest tenured coach now in the AFC East.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So there you have that. My dork of the week
- 23:25Speaker 2: is all of the autograph hawkers that try to go
- 23:30Speaker 2: and get autographs. And that's why the Rangers are not
- 23:32Speaker 2: allowing them to do the winter warm up, because it's
- 23:35Speaker 2: not even about an autograph seeker that bothers me. It's
- 23:37Speaker 2: about the people that go and try to get multiple
- 23:40Speaker 2: and then sell them. And furthermore, the people that use
- 23:43Speaker 2: their kids at two or three in the morning when
- 23:46Speaker 2: the teams get to the hotels to use their kids
- 23:49Speaker 2: to get autographs, when you know, it's not just for
- 23:52Speaker 2: the father and son, it's not just for their personal collection.
- 23:56Speaker 2: It's they give you twelve cards that are exactly the
- 23:58Speaker 2: same for you to sign them, for them to turn
- 24:00Speaker 2: around and sell them. So the Rangers said, nay, on TV,
- 24:03Speaker 2: you will not be here. We're going to do it
- 24:05Speaker 2: for the true fan. And I'm not saying that you
- 24:07Speaker 2: can't be a collector, That's not what I'm saying, but
- 24:09Speaker 2: do it appropriately and don't use your kids. Good on
- 24:12Speaker 2: the Rangers, bad on the autograph hawkers. Okay, so we
- 24:16Speaker 2: were talking a little bit ken about the challenges of
- 24:21Speaker 2: being a reporter and making sure that you're using the
- 24:24Speaker 2: right pronunciation. So, for example, Ranger Suarez has been in
- 24:27Speaker 2: the news a lot, of course, but actually he doesn't
- 24:30Speaker 2: prefer ranger. He prefers run hit, which is the Spanish pronunciation.
- 24:36Speaker 2: But he also said, it's okay if we call him ranger,
- 24:38Speaker 2: how do you tackle that?
- 24:41Speaker 1: To me, it's the player's choice, and however the player
- 24:44Speaker 1: wants his name pronounced, is the way we should pronounce
- 24:47Speaker 1: it on our show on any other network on which
- 24:50Speaker 1: we appear.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Now. In Rangers case, I did.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Not know, or Ronhurst case, that he even had a
- 24:57Speaker 1: different pronunciation until his news conference in Boston yesterday. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: had always called him Ranger. It always responded, He never
- 25:04Speaker 1: corrected me. It was always just hey man, what's going on?
- 25:07Speaker 1: So in this particular case, I would imagine people will
- 25:12Speaker 1: still call him Ranger Swarz. It's been a while now
- 25:14Speaker 1: since he's been in the league being called that. But
- 25:17Speaker 1: in general, you always try to honor the players wishes
- 25:21Speaker 1: because that is only proper. You want your name as
- 25:24Speaker 1: an individual pronounced the way it is intended to be pronounced,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and it is a reporter's responsibility or a television person's
- 25:31Speaker 1: responsibility to get it right, and that includes pronouncing names right.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Krans what is I'll work on that. But they
- 25:39Speaker 2: also call him mister Rager, so maybe he's just going
- 25:42Speaker 2: to continue to rage for the Boston Red Sox. It's
- 25:44Speaker 2: always great to be with you, Ken Rosenthal, appreciate it
- 25:47Speaker 2: very much. Thank you guys for watching and listening. Foul
- 25:51Speaker 2: territory is next. Aj Przinski, Eric Kratz and Scott Braun Welcome.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Athletics outfielder Brent Ruoker, Jim Duquette and Brewer's reporter Kurt
- 25:59Speaker 2: Hobe Fair is back next week. Have a great weekend everybody.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I can say this, go Broncos. Talk to you then
