- 0:08Speaker 1: Okay, Well, I sit alone in the studio again, and
- 0:12Speaker 1: like Artemis coming back from the dark side of the moon,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I am back from the dark side of quite a
- 0:17Speaker 1: little hangover on Saturday morning. I went to a thirtieth
- 0:19Speaker 1: on Friday night because I'm funky. But we'll talk about that.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We'll talk about so much more. This is No Dribble
- 0:26Speaker 1: strap in Hello and welcome to No Dribble the podcast
- 0:41Speaker 1: where we talk about netball.
- 0:42Speaker 2: But we talk about so much more.
- 0:44Speaker 1: My name's Carol and swindle I do so.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Someone has given Yeah, there's a little squirrel group going on.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That wasn't there in that path?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Hi guys, Oh well, this is not what we did
- 0:55Speaker 1: in rehearsal.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Ever, and we rehearse. No one invited me to the rehearsal.
- 1:02Speaker 3: What does anybody invite on this six.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'll just show up by myself. No, I didn't even
- 1:08Speaker 1: send a diary note. There's no point, is there. It
- 1:11Speaker 1: was a big weekend. Hey, big weekend.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Oh what a great weekend. So can we talk about
- 1:17Speaker 3: the fact that for Catherine and I the weekend started
- 1:19Speaker 3: the netball weekend started on Friday night. So good, so good,
- 1:24Speaker 3: so amazing. The swifts and New South of Swifts have
- 1:28Speaker 3: are celebrating this year thirty years and to celebrate that
- 1:32Speaker 3: this has been planned for quite some time. They had
- 1:33Speaker 3: a massive dinner in Sydney on Friday night and they
- 1:37Speaker 3: were celebrating the three eras of the Swifts. So the
- 1:39Speaker 3: first era was the La Swift's era, the Commonwealth Bank
- 1:42Speaker 3: Trophy era that was nineteen ninety seven to two thousand
- 1:45Speaker 3: and seven. The next era was the Ains and Championships
- 1:48Speaker 3: which was two thousand and eight to twenty sixteen, and
- 1:53Speaker 3: then the last era was Son Corpse super netbal So
- 1:56Speaker 3: twenty seventeen to twenty twenty six. So it was just
- 2:01Speaker 3: amazing and.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I thought Gordy described it better though. Sue Gordy and
- 2:04Speaker 1: as MC of the Night, did a genius job and
- 2:06Speaker 1: she talked about the ears as menopause, perrymenopause, and I
- 2:11Speaker 1: think she left it as a given that they're all
- 2:13Speaker 1: currently fertile.
- 2:18Speaker 3: She thought it was a bit like that, like it
- 2:19Speaker 3: was like the Taylor Swifts Swift ears too nice for years.
- 2:24Speaker 3: It was really nice. So anyway, it was great, like
- 2:27Speaker 3: people who I haven't seen for years, administrators who I
- 2:30Speaker 3: haven't seen for years were there. It was just the
- 2:32Speaker 3: funnest night. Gordy mced it did a brilliant job. We
- 2:36Speaker 3: had troublers there. Carolyn, you were there, Coxing, you were there.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It was so fantastic, But it was I actually just
- 2:42Speaker 3: sat there and took a moment to think about just
- 2:45Speaker 3: how meetingful the Swifts are like for a team, a
- 2:48Speaker 3: semi professional and our professional sporting team to be around
- 2:51Speaker 3: for thirty years, to be so successful. And one of
- 2:54Speaker 3: the things that Gordy was talking about was just how
- 2:57Speaker 3: successful the Swift survader and I was having a little
- 2:59Speaker 3: giggle because in reality, for the first five seasons we
- 3:02Speaker 3: weren't very successful at all, and I thought we were
- 3:05Speaker 3: never going to win anything. And I was twenty seven
- 3:08Speaker 3: when we won our first National League, so before I know,
- 3:12Speaker 3: before coming off Bank Trophy started. We used to have
- 3:16Speaker 3: your Mobile League or something like that. That used to
- 3:17Speaker 3: be you got to that league. Not the clubs weren't set.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It was just whoever won the state league every year
- 3:23Speaker 3: it would go into Mobile League, which was the preseason competition.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And we had tried for years when we're playing for Karenga,
- 3:29Speaker 3: and we finally got through and then we became Sydney
- 3:32Speaker 3: Sonovs and played in Mobile League for a couple of years,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but we never went anywhere there and then finally in
- 3:40Speaker 3: what two thousand and one, we won our first premiership.
- 3:43Speaker 3: So I was amazing that it was all about success
- 3:44Speaker 3: and the legacy of success and excellence. But I wanted
- 3:47Speaker 3: to put my head up and say we were very
- 3:49Speaker 3: good for the first five years and then we pulled
- 3:50Speaker 3: our finger out when Catherine came to play. I think well,
- 3:53Speaker 3: as we worked out. It was actually around about when
- 3:55Speaker 3: King Green rocked up.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh that's true. The first one was the first one
- 4:00Speaker 2: was just prior to King Green, and then there seemed
- 4:02Speaker 2: to be this steady success when the young fifteen year
- 4:05Speaker 2: old rocked up in a school uniform.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Her and Minnesta were in their school uniforms. So we
- 4:10Speaker 3: used to training, and I was like thirty, and these
- 4:13Speaker 3: kids used to said we had to train first thing
- 4:15Speaker 3: in the morning so that these kids could come and
- 4:17Speaker 3: train before school. And we'd train and we all just
- 4:20Speaker 3: be sitting around and they'd walk out after having a
- 4:22Speaker 3: shower in their school uniforms and say bye. I was like, oh,
- 4:25Speaker 3: I'm too old for this.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's amazing being that good. That's amazing.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It's amaz it is so young, like that would never
- 4:33Speaker 2: happen now. When she because I had to bubble check
- 4:36Speaker 2: her stats before the game on the Saturday because I
- 4:38Speaker 2: wanted to talk to her about that, and I said,
- 4:41Speaker 2: what was your first year and how old were you?
- 4:43Speaker 2: I knew she was at school, but I kind of
- 4:44Speaker 2: thought it was year twelve, and she's like, yeah, that's fifteen.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Like what, no one knew this era would make a
- 4:52Speaker 2: SSN team at fifteen. Just wouldn't have it.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Crazy, Grace Wecky's been playing since she was sixteen.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I think, yeah, see that amazing lads data. But that
- 5:03Speaker 2: night was so great because every single time you turned
- 5:06Speaker 2: around there was someone else you knew as you mentioned
- 5:09Speaker 2: le someone you hadn't seen the highlight for me without doubt,
- 5:13Speaker 2: and I had a little fangirl moment though it was
- 5:15Speaker 2: right at the very start, when we were still standing
- 5:17Speaker 2: outside having pre drinks or did and I actually lost
- 5:23Speaker 2: my shit because the speechless person I was I was,
- 5:28Speaker 2: And I actually said to him, this makes it real.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Him being here makes it real because he was netble.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Him and Ansthunder were netbule, and it was such a
- 5:38Speaker 2: big deal for us to be on television back in
- 5:40Speaker 2: the day, and he was the man at the front
- 5:42Speaker 2: of all of that and his voice just any time
- 5:45Speaker 2: you saw anything netball then it was his boy. So
- 5:48Speaker 2: it was so special.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So tell everyone who stevehbillides.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So Steph billiand was the head commentator and the host
- 5:53Speaker 2: for ABC. And so he did all the early netball
- 5:56Speaker 2: gangs and I think from memory they did every game,
- 5:59Speaker 2: didn't they?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah, they did him and Annie did it and so.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But and it was no like Beyonce, right because I
- 6:05Speaker 3: didn't need a last name. It was just Steve and Eddie,
- 6:07Speaker 3: Addie and Steve. Do you know exactly who they were?
- 6:10Speaker 3: No last names required.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, So I was so great to see them. When
- 6:14Speaker 2: that to me, it was just like, yeah, this is
- 6:15Speaker 2: this is actually happening. This makes it all very real
- 6:18Speaker 2: that we're thirty years down the track was unreal.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It was so good.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I just I loved it that the embracing of the
- 6:24Speaker 1: heritage and things that I thought were really beautiful. So like,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so Jan Troy who was the first manager team manager,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and she and Julie Fitzgerald were seeking sponsorship selling tickets.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I met Michelle, who is Jan's daughter, who used to
- 6:40Speaker 1: wear the Swift mascot outfit, and Julie's kids had had
- 6:44Speaker 1: to do the same, and that Swift mascot was back
- 6:47Speaker 1: at the game on Saturday, and I just, I really,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I really loved that that it's it's not just about premierships,
- 6:54Speaker 1: it's about this history. And Liz I wrote down, I
- 6:57Speaker 1: wrote down a couple of quotes that both of you said.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Because I'm sitting with a bunch of awesome dribblers. That
- 7:03Speaker 1: was fantastic. We had a great time. I was little.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I hadn't thought I was going to drink because I
- 7:06Speaker 1: thought I'll go to a function, it'll be a kind
- 7:08Speaker 1: of shitty save blanco, I won't want it. But there
- 7:10Speaker 1: was printhe chardonnay. So everything went downhill from there when
- 7:14Speaker 1: my new friend, dribbler Joe kept pouring that. But I've
- 7:17Speaker 1: got some things that you boys see because you're interviewed
- 7:20Speaker 1: up on stage.
- 7:20Speaker 3: So they had the three years.
- 7:21Speaker 1: First of all, we started with the current players who
- 7:23Speaker 1: had to play the next day so they had to leave,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and every centur're in for the club was acknowledged. But
- 7:31Speaker 1: Liz in the interview that it was you and Ali
- 7:33Speaker 1: Broadbent and Cath up there on stage and Gordy was
- 7:35Speaker 1: interviewing and you said, you don't just play with each other,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you play for each other. And I thought that was
- 7:41Speaker 1: like we saw that so many times over the weekend
- 7:44Speaker 1: with teams stepping up. You know, we saw that happening
- 7:47Speaker 1: with the Giants, We saw it happening with the MAVs,
- 7:49Speaker 1: we saw it happening with the Firebirds and then the Fever.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You know, it was just it was amazing, like every
- 7:54Speaker 1: team did that, The Swifts did that. You know, it
- 7:56Speaker 1: was that is such a such a powerful way to
- 8:00Speaker 1: describe what happens in a team that's worked.
- 8:02Speaker 3: And you know, you don't get that just by training
- 8:05Speaker 3: hard together, right, you get it by spending time together
- 8:08Speaker 3: off court. And I'll take you back, Catherine. I reckon
- 8:12Speaker 3: about seven or eight years ago. I amc the Swiss
- 8:16Speaker 3: launch at QBE and we're up on their rooftop sort
- 8:21Speaker 3: of area. The Swift said Briani had been there a
- 8:24Speaker 3: year and that, but they had they hadn't made finals,
- 8:28Speaker 3: and you and I were watching them interact and we're like,
- 8:32Speaker 3: oh my god, they're like we were. They love each other,
- 8:35Speaker 3: make each other laugh, like you could just see they
- 8:38Speaker 3: were there entertaining each other and they were all good,
- 8:42Speaker 3: good humans, right, so they did the right thing. They
- 8:44Speaker 3: spoke to the sponsors, they interacted beautifully with everyone. But
- 8:48Speaker 3: at the end they all just went and sort of
- 8:49Speaker 3: sat together and was sitting around laughing, and Coxy you
- 8:52Speaker 3: said to me, they're like what were used to be,
- 8:53Speaker 3: and I'm like, that is so true. They're going to
- 8:55Speaker 3: go well this year anyway, they won. That was the
- 8:57Speaker 3: year they won, and we it was like you see
- 9:00Speaker 3: it and then I'll tell you now. The team that
- 9:02Speaker 3: you said that to me was during when we did
- 9:05Speaker 3: the COVID Hub. You said to me, look at the Thunderbirds.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I reckon, I reckon, They're gonna win it. And they
- 9:10Speaker 3: didn't win it that year, but look at them now, right,
- 9:13Speaker 3: So you can sort of there's a bit of X
- 9:15Speaker 3: factor about teams who really truly play for each other
- 9:18Speaker 3: and you can sort of talk about it. You can
- 9:20Speaker 3: talk about it in a team meeting. We have to
- 9:22Speaker 3: play for each other. But actually if you talk about it,
- 9:26Speaker 3: that's not you're not going to get it. You've actually
- 9:28Speaker 3: got to live it. And we lived it, and like
- 9:31Speaker 3: now we all see each other, and there was I
- 9:33Speaker 3: hope she won't mind me talking about it. But Katie
- 9:35Speaker 3: Bradstock put a beautiful post up on Facebook over the
- 9:38Speaker 3: weekend and a lot of dribblers won't know who she is.
- 9:41Speaker 3: She was named in the Swifts in the Yellow years,
- 9:43Speaker 3: but never took the court, and she just put off
- 9:46Speaker 3: a post to say, look, I never played, I got
- 9:48Speaker 3: name of the team, but the women in this group
- 9:51Speaker 3: have had my back through some things in my life,
- 9:54Speaker 3: and I just I'm so proud to be Swift. And
- 9:56Speaker 3: I thought, that's exactly what it's about. Like you don't
- 9:58Speaker 3: we don't turn up, and it's not like the people
- 10:00Speaker 3: who have played one hundred games are more important than
- 10:03Speaker 3: the people who never got named. We're all part of
- 10:05Speaker 3: this great club and we sort of there's something quite
- 10:08Speaker 3: special about that that has nothing to do with premierships
- 10:12Speaker 3: or number of games you've played or anything like that.
- 10:14Speaker 3: So I don't know, what do you think, Catherine.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I did not know that she didn't ever take to
- 10:20Speaker 2: the court. No, I know it's fact, but I'm just
- 10:23Speaker 2: out of the well. But that's how much a part
- 10:24Speaker 2: of the team she felt. So that's I did not
- 10:27Speaker 2: know that. That's fascinating, Wow, but it is so true.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Because I'm having my fiftieth this year and I was
- 10:34Speaker 2: deciding whether to have a big birthday party and invite everyone,
- 10:37Speaker 2: and I decided on I want my special people there,
- 10:41Speaker 2: Like I don't. I'm too old to try and just
- 10:44Speaker 2: you know, mix it with everyone for the sake of
- 10:46Speaker 2: but I don't want that. I want to spend time
- 10:47Speaker 2: with my special people. I've got about twenty five people coming.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I would say twenty of them are from our early
- 10:54Speaker 2: days netball team because that's the relationships that we built
- 10:57Speaker 2: across that many years together and doing all that stuff.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So it's crazy, Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 3: It is. And I think you got a sense of
- 11:04Speaker 3: that on Friday night, Carolyn. But you like it that
- 11:07Speaker 3: was in the room, wasn't it?
- 11:08Speaker 1: Absolutely? And it was just it was so lovely. I
- 11:11Speaker 1: met Katrina Wag, I met Sharon Hill from that first team,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and you know, see these people coming back together and
- 11:18Speaker 1: reuniting and just that all of those relationships. It was amazing.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And kath you, I wrote down a quote from you
- 11:25Speaker 1: in your little interview you were talking about and this
- 11:28Speaker 1: is a great example of how you guys used to
- 11:31Speaker 1: come together as friends and enjoy one another as people,
- 11:34Speaker 1: of which then translated onto court. So when you would
- 11:36Speaker 1: get to the airport in Perth, Julie Fitzgerald made you
- 11:40Speaker 1: all chant over and over this is not a holiday,
- 11:44Speaker 1: this is not a holiday. Because you would come off court,
- 11:49Speaker 1: you would get changed, give all your bags to Jan
- 11:52Speaker 1: Troy and then she would come and pick you up
- 11:54Speaker 1: in the team minivan at five am from the nightclub
- 11:57Speaker 1: and you would go to the airport and leave.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But quite often we had already started planning the night
- 12:06Speaker 2: out before focusing on the netball game. So there was
- 12:08Speaker 2: many a game we went to Perth and we did it.
- 12:11Speaker 2: We were planning where we were going to go and
- 12:13Speaker 2: have lunch because we wanted to go somewhere nice on
- 12:15Speaker 2: the beach and where we were stang and very rarely
- 12:18Speaker 2: would the topic of discussion be how are we going
- 12:21Speaker 2: to beat the Orioles? Right? So I think I think
- 12:24Speaker 2: surely really thought before we get on the play was
- 12:26Speaker 2: actually before we left Sydney, I'm going to remind you
- 12:29Speaker 2: all that as much as you love each other, you
- 12:31Speaker 2: have a job to do first.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Ah ridiculous.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Well you've changed though, haven't you, Catherine, Because another quote
- 12:38Speaker 1: that I wrote down was when Gordy said so were
- 12:40Speaker 1: you going out to tonight and because you had to
- 12:42Speaker 1: work the next day. In commentary you said, I'm a professional,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm going home to bed and you're not welcome.
- 12:49Speaker 2: About Gordy, though, I have to give her a shout
- 12:54Speaker 2: out because there could not have been a more perfect person.
- 12:58Speaker 2: And see that event, I mean, she knows the sport.
- 13:01Speaker 2: She's passionate about netball. She knows I think being involved
- 13:05Speaker 2: how incredible this club is. She just is so entertaining,
- 13:09Speaker 2: absolutely smashed it, Gordy or incredible, but also gratulations to
- 13:14Speaker 2: the Swifts who made a big effort to get her
- 13:16Speaker 2: there for the night too.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And she had to be she had to be on
- 13:19Speaker 1: a flight at six am on Saturday to be on
- 13:23Speaker 1: court at rac Arena at ten am for training. Like
- 13:27Speaker 1: hats off, girl. But she was absolutely perfect because she
- 13:30Speaker 1: has been involved with the game for so long, she
- 13:33Speaker 1: was able to tease out the conversations and she was
- 13:36Speaker 1: really able to bring to life, you know, the heritage
- 13:39Speaker 1: that was being shown there. So each era of centurions
- 13:42Speaker 1: were presented with their lovely gift, which and Catherine, you
- 13:45Speaker 1: have to talk about the gift because that was I
- 13:47Speaker 1: would love to perfect little detail. But each era was
- 13:51Speaker 1: presented with someone who has been involved with the club
- 13:54Speaker 1: for a very long time. So the current the current
- 13:57Speaker 1: players were introduced by a foundation member, were given a
- 14:00Speaker 1: gift by foundation member. The I don't know, the perimenopause
- 14:04Speaker 1: era were given their gift by a sponsor who's been
- 14:08Speaker 1: involved for a really long time. And you guys, who
- 14:12Speaker 1: are you? Guys given your gift by She was new
- 14:15Speaker 1: South Wales state manager for years and years, so I
- 14:17Speaker 1: had most of it Marilyn Mellowch Yeah, Marylyn, you were
- 14:20Speaker 1: so amazing. And then Briany and Julie, as the two
- 14:23Speaker 1: Centurion coaches, were presented their gift by their children and
- 14:27Speaker 1: I just thought, this is such this attention to detail
- 14:31Speaker 1: about the heritage of the club and the game and
- 14:35Speaker 1: the acknowledgment of all of these small stories that come
- 14:39Speaker 1: together to make it. And I will say so next
- 14:42Speaker 1: year we've got huge celebrations and if you get a
- 14:45Speaker 1: chance to go along. So Ta Birds were formed in
- 14:47Speaker 1: nineteen ninety seven. Five Birds nineteen ninety seven, Vixen's two
- 14:50Speaker 1: thousand and seven, I believe West Coast Fever two thousand
- 14:53Speaker 1: and eight. And it's like other sports do men's sports
- 14:57Speaker 1: do a really good job of celebrating the hairy. You
- 15:01Speaker 1: cannot go anywhere on this planet without seeing South Sydney
- 15:03Speaker 1: rabbit O's jersey somewhere. And this is what we need
- 15:06Speaker 1: to start doing, is really celebrating our heritage. But yeah, sorry,
- 15:11Speaker 1: the necklace.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Oh amazing. So, I mean we all got given the bag, right.
- 15:16Speaker 2: We wanted to talk to people, That's all we really
- 15:18Speaker 2: wanted to do. I didn't even look in it until
- 15:20Speaker 2: I got home, and then in the morning when I
- 15:23Speaker 2: woke up, I thought, I'm going to have a really
- 15:25Speaker 2: good look at it. And I could see it had
- 15:27Speaker 2: some engraving on it that couldn't read it because I'm blind.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So I got my phone out, took a photo, zoomed in.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I could see very clearly swifts and then my playing number.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And then there was another part that was Roman numerals.
- 15:41Speaker 2: So I got my Google out again and I googled
- 15:43Speaker 2: them that the Roman numerals were, and then so it
- 15:48Speaker 2: spat these date out. I was like, Okay, it's very
- 15:51Speaker 2: clearly a date. What's the date represent? And I'm thinking, well,
- 15:54Speaker 2: I'm scratching my head. So I text Beck Pollard from
- 15:57Speaker 2: the Swifts who had organized all of this, and I
- 15:58Speaker 2: said to confer, is this the day we played our
- 16:01Speaker 2: one hundredth game? And she said, well done out on
- 16:03Speaker 2: the back for you for decoding that because they didn't
- 16:06Speaker 2: tell us, which was kind of cool too, wasn't it.
- 16:09Speaker 2: So everybody's got their own number and a separate date
- 16:11Speaker 2: on there, and it's just the attention to detail, and
- 16:14Speaker 2: they would not have been cheap. We were very spoilt
- 16:18Speaker 2: and on it all in the same motion. It was amazing.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it was amazing, and I've got mine on now.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I put it on the night that mine on tape.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't even look at it on it. I thought, oh,
- 16:29Speaker 3: it's beautiful, and then it wasn't until Catherine sent me
- 16:31Speaker 3: the photo the next morning and said there's Roman numerals
- 16:34Speaker 3: on it. I was like, oh, I best I have
- 16:36Speaker 3: a close look, and we realized we had different dates,
- 16:40Speaker 3: so we thought it must be our hundred that's when
- 16:42Speaker 3: we played our hundredth. But yeah, it did feel very special.
- 16:45Speaker 3: We felt very spoiled. But it continued into the next
- 16:48Speaker 3: day as well, of course, so lots of celebrations at
- 16:51Speaker 3: the game against the Vixen's the next day and there
- 16:54Speaker 3: was a function before the game for all the old
- 16:56Speaker 3: girls that Coxy could have come to. I'm going to
- 16:59Speaker 3: say there's certainly anough side to not commentating anymore. I
- 17:01Speaker 3: get to go to all I know.
- 17:05Speaker 2: You know, the only good thing that happened was they
- 17:07Speaker 2: were in the back of the back of the house
- 17:10Speaker 2: about to come out of the court and the Guard
- 17:11Speaker 2: of Honor, and we had just gone to an ad
- 17:13Speaker 2: break and I could see them through the doorway, all
- 17:16Speaker 2: standing there for a photo. So Kim Green and I
- 17:18Speaker 2: ran out and we jumped in the back of it.
- 17:22Speaker 2: We ran back in. We had like two minutes off
- 17:24Speaker 2: air and we made the photos.
- 17:26Speaker 3: So that was so good. And so the tunnel that
- 17:29Speaker 3: the Swifts walked down, or both teams walked down, had
- 17:32Speaker 3: had a photo from every year in the function. They
- 17:35Speaker 3: had the uniform from every end. I've got a video
- 17:37Speaker 3: and I'll put it. Actually I've done any social media posts.
- 17:41Speaker 3: There's been a bit going on, but I'll get around
- 17:42Speaker 3: to it. But they had all the uniforms in the tunnel,
- 17:45Speaker 3: they had the photos, and then all the all the
- 17:47Speaker 3: old girls were there to clap them on. And so
- 17:49Speaker 3: one of the things I felt really privileged to do.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Brady asked me to speak to the girls just before
- 17:54Speaker 3: they played and you know, read them up a bit
- 17:56Speaker 3: and give me a word of advice. But I just
- 17:58Speaker 3: wanted them to understand that all the old girls love
- 18:01Speaker 3: them regardless of the result. We love the current team
- 18:04Speaker 3: and we're one hundred percent behind them, And I think
- 18:07Speaker 3: that would have been something that's you know, individual to
- 18:10Speaker 3: the Swifts. I think every club would be the same.
- 18:12Speaker 3: You know that the old girls loved the players who
- 18:15Speaker 3: were playing and representing, So it was such a privilege
- 18:18Speaker 3: to be in that change room, and you know, I
- 18:21Speaker 3: sort of gave a few pieces of advice I talked
- 18:24Speaker 3: to them about. Another quote from Friday Night was Susan
- 18:27Speaker 3: Pratley said that Susan Pettitt said that the best piece
- 18:29Speaker 3: of advice she got was to yeah, understand your game plan,
- 18:33Speaker 3: but then learn to play what's in front of you.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Don't get so called up there. Yeah yeah, yeah. And
- 18:38Speaker 3: I sort of passed that on to them and just said,
- 18:40Speaker 3: you know, you've got your game plan, that's your scaffolding,
- 18:43Speaker 3: but what fills it in is your instincts as a player.
- 18:45Speaker 3: So I just play what's in front of you. Know
- 18:48Speaker 3: that we are all behind you, know that we love you,
- 18:50Speaker 3: know that you're part of something bigger, and I just
- 18:53Speaker 3: love to see they got out and you know they
- 18:55Speaker 3: had massive injuries, but they bloody stayed in that game.
- 18:58Speaker 3: And I know we'll talk about netball the actual games
- 19:01Speaker 3: in a little bit, but it was so great to
- 19:04Speaker 3: be there. But for the game, we all sat in
- 19:06Speaker 3: one part of the stadium and I was in a box.
- 19:09Speaker 3: And the boxes at ken Rosewell Arena are really open, right,
- 19:13Speaker 3: so it's just like a seating area. And I was
- 19:15Speaker 3: in a box and Evela and I are in the
- 19:17Speaker 3: front part of the box and the seats behind it.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Was Julie Harrison, who played goalkeeper for the Swifts in
- 19:22Speaker 3: the Yellow Era and who Jewels we love. So she
- 19:24Speaker 3: was there with her husband who's quite tall, and her
- 19:28Speaker 3: two boys. So and the boys were they hadn't been
- 19:30Speaker 3: to a netball game before. The teenage boys are into AFL.
- 19:33Speaker 3: They were so engrossed. So I loving it. So I
- 19:35Speaker 3: was loving listening.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Game.
- 19:38Speaker 3: No, they were really into the game, right, They just
- 19:40Speaker 3: loved the game. And at the end of the game,
- 19:44Speaker 3: one of the drivelers walked up to me and she
- 19:47Speaker 3: looked at Julie's husband, Wardy, and she goes, what is
- 19:50Speaker 3: the met tracing? He doesn't belong to me, He's not
- 20:00Speaker 3: the meat prey and she was mortified. So we were
- 20:03Speaker 3: just crying with laughter, and I said, and then she said,
- 20:06Speaker 3: and then she said to one of Julie's sons, you
- 20:09Speaker 3: know how I was winging last week about I couldn't
- 20:11Speaker 3: find my headphones. And then she sort of didn't work
- 20:15Speaker 3: out what I said, and then she said to one
- 20:16Speaker 3: of Julie's sons, are you the headphone thief?
- 20:23Speaker 1: I love the dribblers though, like you know, it's so,
- 20:26Speaker 1: it's so faber and I got to sit with a
- 20:29Speaker 1: bunch of dribblers who won a competition to come along
- 20:31Speaker 1: on Saturday night. Now, someone who didn't win, but who
- 20:33Speaker 1: was there, CAF, who you introduced me to, is Jones
- 20:36Speaker 1: Smith and it was so like to meet Joanes, such
- 20:40Speaker 1: a joy. But I had five dribblers on the table
- 20:42Speaker 1: with me. I had Nicole, who was a short shooter,
- 20:45Speaker 1: so that was a surprise. Sharnie who came down from
- 20:48Speaker 1: Tamworth and for the nice and then the next she
- 20:50Speaker 1: got two little kids, six and one, but went, no,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm out, so perhaps to two parents doing their jobs
- 20:56Speaker 1: so everyone can do what they want. Carly who's had
- 20:59Speaker 1: an a c l in injury and who is back
- 21:01Speaker 1: to play this week. So and good luck to Krli,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and my apologies for flinging wine in your dessert.
- 21:09Speaker 2: It hurt me as much.
- 21:10Speaker 1: As it hurt you, because that was the last of
- 21:12Speaker 1: the chardont And I've already mentioned Joe who was pouring
- 21:16Speaker 1: the chardonet for me.
- 21:16Speaker 2: And another Carolyn, which.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Is always a joy to meet another Carolyn. So and
- 21:21Speaker 1: sadly Grand Final weekend, super Netball Grand Final weekend, which
- 21:25Speaker 1: I got tickets for on Friday. She's a junior rep
- 21:28Speaker 1: manager and it's junior state titles in New Southwest, so
- 21:31Speaker 1: she is prioritizing her girls and might be at the
- 21:33Speaker 1: sun Corps super netbul Grandfriend. But just quality human beings
- 21:37Speaker 1: who were there, happy to meet one another, to listen to,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know. And it was like come along by yourself,
- 21:43Speaker 1: so no one knew anyone. So it's like, well, I
- 21:45Speaker 1: just have to get into this. I just have to
- 21:46Speaker 1: be curious, I have to be nice. And it was
- 21:48Speaker 1: just it was such a it was such an example
- 21:51Speaker 1: of this beautiful little community that we have. It was wonderful.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so good fun.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Well that's kind of an netbull chat, but we need
- 21:58Speaker 1: to have a proper netbull chat because there was so
- 22:01Speaker 1: much netball on the weekend. So let's have a quick
- 22:03Speaker 1: break and then we will come back and talk about
- 22:04Speaker 1: the weekend's game. Oh okay, So Saturday morning I had
- 22:20Speaker 1: to drive to Orange because I needed to do some
- 22:23Speaker 1: stuff with my in laws up there. I did see
- 22:25Speaker 1: a bloke at a petrol station eating a dagwood dog
- 22:27Speaker 1: at ten o'clock on Saturday morning. I know, so I thought, well,
- 22:31Speaker 1: someone's hangover is much worse than mine. But I did
- 22:34Speaker 1: get to watch quite a lot of netball, and I'm
- 22:36Speaker 1: so glad I didn't miss it because what a weekend.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Unbelievable.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I got to watch a game as well, because this
- 22:43Speaker 2: is the first weekend that I haven't worked both days,
- 22:46Speaker 2: so I made sure I had a Bubbles yesterday and
- 22:49Speaker 2: I sat watched the Needy. It was amazing.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Which game did you watch?
- 22:54Speaker 2: I watched both of the Sunday games. Oh but yes,
- 22:58Speaker 2: Should we start with the first of the week. Yes,
- 23:02Speaker 2: let's so we've talked a lot about the Swifts and
- 23:04Speaker 2: the Vixens, I'm going to say. I can't believe I'm
- 23:07Speaker 2: saying this because she's a new Zealander Katrina Rory.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Oh hey, how do you look like that? Like, how
- 23:15Speaker 3: do you look so jacked and so fit and so
- 23:17Speaker 3: awesome and come on and play like you haven't actually stopped.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Oh I don't know.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I will say I will put a plug in for CrossFit. Yes,
- 23:24Speaker 1: she came to CrossFit in pretty good shape, I'd have
- 23:27Speaker 1: to say, but yep.
- 23:30Speaker 2: She's been doing that and running. But she said she'd
- 23:32Speaker 2: also just finished a shred with her husband, so she
- 23:36Speaker 2: was particularly ripped. But it's a completely different fitness as
- 23:40Speaker 2: we know, right to get out there and a muscle
- 23:42Speaker 2: memory as to how to play the game. And she
- 23:44Speaker 2: had came up with the most games well equal wise
- 23:47Speaker 2: for the swifts.
- 23:48Speaker 3: That's unbelievable, amazing. So it was great. Loved Grace White
- 23:52Speaker 3: thought she played without fear. I thought she was fantastic.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Yes, and in Turn twenty one on Sunday.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah, amazing. Right. So, but at the end of the day,
- 24:01Speaker 3: Vixen's won and you just could see their big game experience.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Good time.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Absolutely, it was like they all just took a big,
- 24:08Speaker 3: deep breath, and went hang on. So I thought the
- 24:11Speaker 3: Swiss really took the game to them and it took
- 24:13Speaker 3: them a little while to react. And probably the advantage
- 24:15Speaker 3: that Grace White had was that she was a bit
- 24:17Speaker 3: of an unknown in that position, so Joe Weston had
- 24:20Speaker 3: to be thinking the whole game about what she was
- 24:22Speaker 3: going to do. But I just felt the Vixens, like,
- 24:26Speaker 3: you don't play like they played in the second half
- 24:28Speaker 3: of last year speaking of muscle memory, and not have
- 24:31Speaker 3: the muscle memory to close out those games. So yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 3: they thoroughly deserved the win, and you just saw that
- 24:36Speaker 3: little extra bit of class in the dying moments. They
- 24:38Speaker 3: sort of weathered the storm. And then you know the
- 24:41Speaker 3: players who you just as she will stand up, Joe Weston,
- 24:44Speaker 3: Kate Maloney, Curra Austin, Sophie Garbin, like they all just
- 24:48Speaker 3: they all did the job when they had to.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yep, I think every person in that crowd was nervous,
- 24:53Speaker 2: but that was going to go the other way at
- 24:55Speaker 2: the end of the game. I mean, to be fair well,
- 24:57Speaker 2: I expected it to happen. I think most people thought
- 24:59Speaker 2: that you're right exactly what you said, Liz, but I reckon.
- 25:02Speaker 2: That's why the crowd was particularly noisy. Just need to
- 25:07Speaker 2: even get close to them. The Swifts had played well
- 25:11Speaker 2: and everything they'd been through.
- 25:13Speaker 1: For one minute of that game, did I think that
- 25:16Speaker 1: the Vixens weren't going to come back and sell it
- 25:18Speaker 1: at the end, and that, you know, this is just
- 25:21Speaker 1: you know, look at what the Vixens went through in
- 25:23Speaker 1: the in the semi final and the preliminary final last year.
- 25:27Speaker 1: And you know this time last year the Vixens hadn't
- 25:29Speaker 1: won a game, had they You know, we were sitting
- 25:32Speaker 1: we're just about on the I mean it's not the
- 25:34Speaker 1: year anniversary because of the change in the season this year,
- 25:37Speaker 1: but we're almost at the point in the season which
- 25:40Speaker 1: is the anniversary of Samone mckinners saying maybe we just
- 25:42Speaker 1: need to go to the pub, which Darryl Milton put
- 25:46Speaker 1: a post up on the weekend in the Facebook group
- 25:48Speaker 1: that the Storm coach Craig Bellamy has basically adopted the
- 25:52Speaker 1: same approach to the Storm are not doing so well.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's like, I don't know, maybe we need to go
- 25:56Speaker 1: to the pub. And so the last thing you need
- 25:58Speaker 1: to do is take rugby league place to the pub.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's a very different thing to take hair ballers to
- 26:02Speaker 1: the pub ah up on the front page.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think the risk assessment around both of
- 26:08Speaker 3: those things is vastly different.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, but I just I just it was so
- 26:14Speaker 1: great to see them that them go out on court.
- 26:17Speaker 1: You know, you've got Sarah klayor Helen Howsby, Paige Hadley,
- 26:20Speaker 1: what is it over four hundred games experience sitting on
- 26:24Speaker 1: the sidelines, they're unable to take the court and they
- 26:29Speaker 1: did an amazing job. And you know, taking nothing away
- 26:33Speaker 1: from the Vixen's, they are an extraordinary outfit. But it
- 26:36Speaker 1: was just so great that it was such a good game.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I go away for next week now though it's Thunderbirds.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's right.
- 26:45Speaker 1: So next week we get a shake up in the leaderboard.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Some one of them has to win and one of
- 26:49Speaker 1: them has to lose, unless it's a draw, you know,
- 26:52Speaker 1: in which case then we both they both move up
- 26:54Speaker 1: by two points. But you know, we'll talk more about
- 26:56Speaker 1: next week next So then.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Thunderbirds and Giant Oh my god, Oh what a game. Hey,
- 27:03Speaker 3: how amazing was this game? And really again you just
- 27:07Speaker 3: saw in the end it was a team with that
- 27:09Speaker 3: little bit of extra Yes, and the confidence for winning.
- 27:12Speaker 3: You know, most of the Thunderbirds team have won premierships.
- 27:15Speaker 3: They just it's just the ability to close out. But
- 27:18Speaker 3: like the great thing for the young players and the
- 27:20Speaker 3: Swifts and the young players and the Giants is that
- 27:22Speaker 3: they got to see firsthand what's that, what that looks
- 27:25Speaker 3: like and they will get there. So but for the Thunderbirds,
- 27:28Speaker 3: just like again, they just know how to dig deep,
- 27:32Speaker 3: home crowd behind them.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Progress and look at again, at no stage did I
- 27:36Speaker 1: think the Thunderbirds weren't going to come back and win
- 27:39Speaker 1: that in the last moments. So but you know, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: loved that so much. It was so exciting. And the
- 27:45Speaker 1: Giants are the Thunderbirds bogey team, right, So twenty twenty
- 27:48Speaker 1: five the Thunderbirds did not win against the Giants, and
- 27:53Speaker 1: the Giants in finished their season in sixth last year,
- 27:57Speaker 1: so yeah, it was it was interesting and you know,
- 28:00Speaker 1: to see the likes of Aaron O'Brien step up, Amy
- 28:03Speaker 1: Sliger was just sensational, Casey Adamson had a great game,
- 28:08Speaker 1: Matisse and Sophie in the shooting, so like it's everyone
- 28:11Speaker 1: it was. It was just I loved it. It was
- 28:12Speaker 1: so it was so inspiring, so much grit and just determination.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Just amazing. Just speaking of the shooting circle for the Giants,
- 28:22Speaker 3: can we talk about the fact that these two young
- 28:24Speaker 3: players had one hundred percent against oh like the best
- 28:27Speaker 3: goalkeeper in the world.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Unbelievable about that, well, and they got themselves into such
- 28:32Speaker 2: a great position because they those guys are the queens
- 28:34Speaker 2: of supershots. They didn't need to shoot them. That's how
- 28:38Speaker 2: well they will play. They were in the contest in
- 28:41Speaker 2: regular time and the one hundred percent shooting that I
- 28:44Speaker 2: think they only put up maybe three or four supershots
- 28:46Speaker 2: between them, when normally you would see that, you know,
- 28:49Speaker 2: probably near the tents. Incredible and I think for Narati
- 28:53Speaker 2: Stewart too, that will be a real sigh of relief
- 28:56Speaker 2: to see that leather Borough has stood up and maybe
- 28:59Speaker 2: now will be their goal shooter going forward. They barely
- 29:02Speaker 2: made a change, which was good to see for the
- 29:04Speaker 2: first time. And they play the Lightning next week, who
- 29:07Speaker 2: just lost yesterday to the Map, so that game is
- 29:11Speaker 2: wide open for the Giants to get their first win
- 29:13Speaker 2: of the season.
- 29:15Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you about matist Leatherburrow, Catherine, because
- 29:18Speaker 3: she's been around in the Giants program for a long time,
- 29:22Speaker 3: and why do you think we've not seen a huge
- 29:25Speaker 3: amount of her on court? Like obviously she was sitting
- 29:27Speaker 3: behind Sophie and Joe Harton, but I sort of looked
- 29:30Speaker 3: at her. I was like, I feel like we should
- 29:33Speaker 3: see more of you.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I remember Julie saying last year one
- 29:37Speaker 2: of the things when we were talking a lot in
- 29:38Speaker 2: commentary about her not being on court was that you
- 29:41Speaker 2: guys actually don't know what goes on at training. So
- 29:43Speaker 2: that to me was maybe she's not performing at training,
- 29:46Speaker 2: and that's fair enough because we don't know. But I
- 29:48Speaker 2: think also it is very hard for a shooter to
- 29:53Speaker 2: feel good about themselves and be up and about when
- 29:55Speaker 2: you're in and out of a contest, and she would
- 29:57Speaker 2: have been out of it for the most part behind
- 30:00Speaker 2: Joe Harton. So now she's I think, just getting a
- 30:03Speaker 2: head around having some really regular court time, and what
- 30:06Speaker 2: we're seeing from that is a confidence level that's lifted,
- 30:10Speaker 2: and it's feeling good about the combination with Sophie dwy
- 30:12Speaker 2: are feeling really great about what she's able to do
- 30:15Speaker 2: in the shooting space. So I reckon that's exactly what
- 30:18Speaker 2: narrator wanted to see firstly, and that will give that
- 30:21Speaker 2: whole giants attack and so much more confidence.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you sort of you don't want to And this
- 30:26Speaker 3: is the same like with cachin kids. I sort of
- 30:28Speaker 3: found this because you know at local level now you
- 30:30Speaker 3: can use your subs. You're just going to be careful
- 30:33Speaker 3: that you don't pull a kid off when they make
- 30:35Speaker 3: a mistake, or when they make two or three mistakes
- 30:37Speaker 3: in a row, unless it's something you just want to
- 30:39Speaker 3: pull them off to say, Okay, this is how I
- 30:42Speaker 3: think you can fix it now and go back on
- 30:43Speaker 3: and fix it. You don't want people being so scared
- 30:46Speaker 3: about making mistakes that they don't get out and just play.
- 30:49Speaker 3: And I did wonder that about like this giant's frontline
- 30:53Speaker 3: for a couple of weeks and you can just see
- 30:56Speaker 3: the results from having confidence in them, Like isn't it amazing?
- 30:59Speaker 3: Right that one a cricketter once said to me that
- 31:02Speaker 3: he was debuting for Australia and Steve wapoured him with
- 31:06Speaker 3: side and sit there, Oh mate, this is awesome. I reckon,
- 31:08Speaker 3: you're going to have a great game today. And he
- 31:12Speaker 3: had a great game because no one showed a confidence,
- 31:14Speaker 3: let she confidence from leadership is so important. So yeah,
- 31:18Speaker 3: I reckon you sort of saw the results of that
- 31:21Speaker 3: in that Giant's game.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Interesting. I would like to talk about Lauren Frew, who
- 31:26Speaker 1: I think is a sensational player and it's going to
- 31:28Speaker 1: be interesting at the end of this year to see
- 31:32Speaker 1: what happens with player movements. Again, you know, she's not
- 31:35Speaker 1: getting an enormous amount of court time now they have
- 31:38Speaker 1: Elmeray Vanderberg, they have Georgie Horges, so Lauren's not getting
- 31:43Speaker 1: a full sixty minutes. So I don't think she's getting
- 31:45Speaker 1: as much court time as she got last year. And true,
- 31:48Speaker 1: as far as I can see, through no fault of
- 31:50Speaker 1: her own. It's just this balance of being a great
- 31:54Speaker 1: player in a great team. That's a really hard career
- 31:59Speaker 1: q chest. I guess that players have to ask of themselves,
- 32:03Speaker 1: where do I want to be? What's what's the right
- 32:06Speaker 1: path for me? Because it's not just about winning premierships.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's about feeling that I got to play the career
- 32:13Speaker 1: that I wanted to within those premierships, isn't it?
- 32:16Speaker 2: And I think the other hard part for her is
- 32:18Speaker 2: that she is in a team with four shooters. Georgie
- 32:21Speaker 2: Harges is mainly a wing attack. But as we saw,
- 32:24Speaker 2: she won that day, and she won it with super shots,
- 32:28Speaker 2: so that's difficult and it's probably a bit of a phnomenaly.
- 32:32Speaker 2: There's not many teams that have four shooters like that,
- 32:35Speaker 2: so it is going to be harder for her if
- 32:37Speaker 2: she's not performing in those little bits of times she's
- 32:39Speaker 2: got on call. It. Absolutely she'll be weighing that up
- 32:41Speaker 2: going forward.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 32:44Speaker 1: So that was Saturday, and then we all needed to
- 32:46Speaker 1: have a bit of a lie down, and then we
- 32:48Speaker 1: came back for Sunday, which was just as exciting. MAV's
- 32:53Speaker 1: got up over the Lightning. Who tipped that? Oh Carolyn,
- 32:57Speaker 1: Oh did you?
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yes?
- 33:00Speaker 1: I did in my little tipping video which I did
- 33:02Speaker 1: standing beside all of the dresses at the Swift dinner
- 33:05Speaker 1: on the Friday night, I said, I think it's mavclock.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I think they've been building, you know, they've come close
- 33:10Speaker 1: so many times, and yeah, well done. I had a
- 33:15Speaker 1: feeling what a.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Weird game, right, Like mav sort of got away early,
- 33:20Speaker 3: you know, they won that first quarter by seven, and
- 33:22Speaker 3: then they won the second quarter by two, and then
- 33:24Speaker 3: Lightning when the third quarter by seven, Yes, and then
- 33:29Speaker 3: was the last quarter by seven, But how does what
- 33:33Speaker 3: crazy shape.
- 33:34Speaker 2: All over the shot? Walloon went to the bench at
- 33:37Speaker 2: one point, they played Gabby Sincla for the whole of
- 33:39Speaker 2: the second quarter, like it was. They didn't start Courtney Bruce.
- 33:43Speaker 2: I think they started Karen Berger the Lightning in Gold offence,
- 33:46Speaker 2: and then that change happened I think in the midst
- 33:48Speaker 2: of the first quarter. So there was a lot of
- 33:50Speaker 2: chopping change happening for Lightning and again, feels like that side.
- 33:55Speaker 2: It's kind of given me at this point Magpie's vibes.
- 33:58Speaker 2: You know, the Magpies just felt like a stacked side
- 34:01Speaker 2: but could never get the shit together to be as
- 34:04Speaker 2: good as everybody thought they would be. I'm starting to
- 34:08Speaker 2: get those vibes from this Sunshine Coast Lightning team.
- 34:12Speaker 1: So the whole team of champions versus champion team type thing.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Yes, I mean you look at the star power. They've
- 34:18Speaker 2: gotten someone like a Wallam who should be really unstoppable,
- 34:22Speaker 2: and they're not having as much success as I think
- 34:26Speaker 2: we kind of all thought maybe in the start of
- 34:28Speaker 2: the season, not to say they can't turn it around,
- 34:31Speaker 2: but at this stage that's a vibe I'm getting.
- 34:33Speaker 1: So they are coming to Sydney next week to play
- 34:35Speaker 1: the Giants. That an interesting one to watch because the
- 34:38Speaker 1: Giants will obviously be feeling be feeling kind of no
- 34:42Speaker 1: pressure but a whole lot of potential, whereas Lightning will
- 34:46Speaker 1: be feeling an enormous amount of pressure. At the moment,
- 34:49Speaker 1: I would think.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yeah, well they dropped out of the top four with
- 34:52Speaker 2: that loss, so both of the back of losses. But
- 34:54Speaker 2: I agree with you, the Giants come in full of confidence.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Interesting a bit of pressure on the Lightning coach Blinda Reynolds.
- 35:02Speaker 3: You know, she's an experienced coach, she's been there or
- 35:04Speaker 3: there about. But I imagine it's hard to have that
- 35:07Speaker 3: team that's full of big names. You know, you've got
- 35:09Speaker 3: the Diamonds captain and the Silver Ferns captain in that team.
- 35:12Speaker 3: You've got to bring them all together and turn them
- 35:15Speaker 3: into a team. I mean, I mean, I don't know
- 35:18Speaker 3: how you do it right because we all the other
- 35:20Speaker 3: enough stuff's like us go h eh, they're a champion team.
- 35:24Speaker 3: But there's the coach has to be a little bit
- 35:26Speaker 3: of magic, doesn't she to do that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: I don't imagine that any bigger a challenge than Die
- 35:31Speaker 1: Honey has coming in with a team that is so
- 35:33Speaker 1: established MAVs coach. Remind me Jared Jared Murphy. Jared Murphy, Sorry, Jared.
- 35:39Speaker 1: You know he's got an enormous her. He came in late,
- 35:42Speaker 1: he didn't even have anything to do with the selections
- 35:44Speaker 1: and the like, and you know they were starting the season. Paula,
- 35:47Speaker 1: you know that there's what narrator has to cope with,
- 35:50Speaker 1: what Brian has had to cope You know that it's
- 35:52Speaker 1: of a job. I don't know why any want to
- 35:54Speaker 1: do it. Frankly, how coaches, there was a bit of
- 35:59Speaker 1: a question about this the Facebook. The coaches are contracted
- 36:02Speaker 1: for multiple years.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Generally they are, but it all got a kind of
- 36:05Speaker 2: coincide with broadcast or not so much. I'm not sure
- 36:08Speaker 2: on that. Because I know that Kittie Wills has signed
- 36:10Speaker 2: through to twenty twenty seven, we might follow up on that.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I might ask a few questions and see if we
- 36:15Speaker 1: can talk about that next week with some degree of Yeah.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Before we finish off this game, can we just talk
- 36:20Speaker 3: about Jamie Lee Price. Yes, just amazing, like just incredible.
- 36:26Speaker 3: She was head and shoulders above everybody else in that game,
- 36:29Speaker 3: absolutely everybody else, Like twenty two goal assists comparison Liz
- 36:33Speaker 3: Watson thirteen like two games, yep. I don't know, Like yeah,
- 36:39Speaker 3: I just think she was just outstanding.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's not She's not had a bad game
- 36:44Speaker 2: since moving to the MAVs. She's been the near MVP
- 36:48Speaker 2: if they've won, definitely been the MVP of nearly every game.
- 36:52Speaker 2: So that seems to be her. I mean, she's great
- 36:55Speaker 2: any other time, and she was always great with the
- 36:56Speaker 2: Giants as well, but I feel like she's really flourishing
- 36:59Speaker 2: with this move to Melbour.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I think she is too very exciting MAVs the building.
- 37:04Speaker 1: But then we had a very exciting game to close
- 37:06Speaker 1: out the round over in the West, and I don't
- 37:09Speaker 1: think many people would have expected it to be as
- 37:11Speaker 1: exciting as it was. This is what I loved about
- 37:14Speaker 1: this round is that there were so many there was
- 37:16Speaker 1: nothing that you thought that went exactly the way I
- 37:18Speaker 1: knew it was going to go. There were not one
- 37:20Speaker 1: single game in the round.
- 37:21Speaker 2: And I will put my hand up straight away and
- 37:23Speaker 2: say absolutely wasn't me. Because Firebirds, when they've got big
- 37:29Speaker 2: defense on them, don't play well, and that happened against
- 37:32Speaker 2: the Thunderbirds, and so I was not expecting them to
- 37:35Speaker 2: go well against the Giants the following week, they smashed it.
- 37:39Speaker 2: They opened it up. When somebody asked me, will they
- 37:41Speaker 2: be able to repeat that, I said no, because they
- 37:43Speaker 2: were going to play the West Coast and it's back
- 37:45Speaker 2: to that really tight, dogged defense end. And they did,
- 37:49Speaker 2: and they ran with them for the majority of the game.
- 37:53Speaker 2: So again, I've got the Firebirds Swifts game this weekend
- 37:57Speaker 2: in Brisbane. That one both sides back off losses as well,
- 38:02Speaker 2: becomes very very interesting and I feel like the Firebirds
- 38:06Speaker 2: will think it's very very gettable now too.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah, amazing, such a great game. And again this last
- 38:14Speaker 3: quarter of Fevers is starting I think to be a
- 38:17Speaker 3: little bit of a concern. I think they're one last
- 38:20Speaker 3: quarter this year and a three quarter a time I
- 38:22Speaker 3: was like, oh, Fever will probably run home with this,
- 38:24Speaker 3: and then it's almost like Firebirds just run out of time.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, they put siff Sandhold on for the first
- 38:30Speaker 2: time in the game. She had eleven minutes all in
- 38:32Speaker 2: that final quarter, and god, she's just so reliable and
- 38:37Speaker 2: so strong. And again Charlocke, so strong. Charlocke had big
- 38:40Speaker 2: numbers still, sixteen misses, sorry, sixteen rebounds off the back
- 38:45Speaker 2: of misshots. But I think what you get with Siff
- 38:48Speaker 2: Sandholder is just you know that when the ball is delivered,
- 38:50Speaker 2: it will get to the target because she is that
- 38:52Speaker 2: strong and you know, nine times out of ten it's
- 38:55Speaker 2: going through the hoop as well. She also has that
- 38:57Speaker 2: ability on the long shot that we saw the week before.
- 39:00Speaker 2: So I reckon, she's such a great value add to
- 39:03Speaker 2: their side, and I reckon from here on, and she's
- 39:06Speaker 2: going to get more caught time.
- 39:07Speaker 3: So who do you drop out?
- 39:08Speaker 2: Then?
- 39:08Speaker 3: She's the eleventh player, isn't she Maddie Gordon's out?
- 39:12Speaker 2: Yeah? Well Maddie. I don't think Maddie Gordon's back anytime soon,
- 39:15Speaker 2: is she? Oh?
- 39:16Speaker 3: Really?
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Well have yeah? So I don't know. I mean,
- 39:21Speaker 2: we'd like to think that was going to happen sooner,
- 39:23Speaker 2: but if if that was the case, I'd be probably dropping. Well,
- 39:27Speaker 2: I don't I actually another you put it like that, Liz,
- 39:31Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know that. I think they
- 39:34Speaker 2: need to keep her going forward.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I was watching her go. God, I
- 39:38Speaker 3: would have hated to play her like you've got to
- 39:41Speaker 3: come right off the body because she is so good
- 39:43Speaker 3: when she's got she knows where the defender is because
- 39:45Speaker 3: she positions herself so well. She would be exhausting to
- 39:49Speaker 3: play because you just you've got to get off for
- 39:51Speaker 3: about come back and get offer, and come back and
- 39:53Speaker 3: get offer and come. And I was like, oh, there's
- 39:56Speaker 3: another reason why I'm glad to be retired. But she's
- 39:58Speaker 3: she seems to be incredibly reliable. Nothing I think by
- 40:01Speaker 3: those are too much.
- 40:03Speaker 2: And do we talk about Ramelda Rekins two hundred and
- 40:05Speaker 2: fifty or should we just ignore it and hope she
- 40:07Speaker 2: retires next week?
- 40:08Speaker 3: Hope she goes.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Look could happen. You never know her financial advice. I
- 40:16Speaker 1: could come in and say, no, this is it, You've
- 40:18Speaker 1: got to get out now.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Well I think she'll I think she'll break your record
- 40:22Speaker 3: before the end of the financial year.
- 40:27Speaker 2: No, I mean amazing feat though. That's a big number,
- 40:29Speaker 2: isn't it. What a superstar one?
- 40:32Speaker 1: Congratulations absolutely and great to have live Wilkinson back. Yes,
- 40:37Speaker 1: also another another and someone with you know, people we
- 40:40Speaker 1: don't celebrate very often umpires, so Tamara berrianigin I celebrated
- 40:44Speaker 1: umpired her fiftieth National League match on the weekend. It
- 40:48Speaker 1: is a thankless bloody job, but we've got no game
- 40:50Speaker 1: without the umpires, So you know, give a bit of
- 40:52Speaker 1: love to an umber time. Well, everybody can do their job.
- 40:55Speaker 3: It's so bloody easy.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Nah, congratulations tomorrow. But there was that's something I wanted
- 41:00Speaker 1: to talk to you guys about, and this came up
- 41:02Speaker 1: as in the Facebook group. So the idea of having
- 41:06Speaker 1: a bonus point for losses of less than five goals,
- 41:09Speaker 1: I think that would be a terrific system. And I
- 41:12Speaker 1: just looked at it and went up to the end
- 41:14Speaker 1: of round five. If we had that system, so we've
- 41:16Speaker 1: got obviously the MAVs particularly have a number of games
- 41:19Speaker 1: they've lost two by fewer than five. Firebirds have lost two.
- 41:23Speaker 1: If we had that system, the leaderboard would now look
- 41:26Speaker 1: like this Thunderbirds twenty Vixen's twenty West Coast Fever sixteen.
- 41:30Speaker 1: MAVs would be on ten, Lightning would be on nine,
- 41:33Speaker 1: Firebirds would be on six, Swifts would be on five,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and the Giants would be on one. And I just
- 41:39Speaker 1: I love looking at that position, that fourth position in
- 41:42Speaker 1: the finals, because it's already starting to look like that's
- 41:45Speaker 1: the only one that's up for grabs here that it
- 41:47Speaker 1: is looking very much like a Thunderbird's Vixen's West Coast
- 41:51Speaker 1: Fever and one more. But it would just be I
- 41:55Speaker 1: would love to see, particularly in our short season, something
- 41:58Speaker 1: that acknowledges these incredibly tight races that come down to
- 42:04Speaker 1: one goal or two goals. But you know, relative to
- 42:08Speaker 1: some people, some teams are losing by twenty goals, and
- 42:11Speaker 1: it's like, yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Anyway, lose.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I loved it when we had our bonus points. Did
- 42:16Speaker 3: you did you realize that too? Yeah? Do you remember?
- 42:18Speaker 3: And when there were you know, a bonus point for
- 42:19Speaker 3: winning a quarter? Yeah, people like some people hated it
- 42:24Speaker 3: because it affects the integrity, but I would say, when
- 42:28Speaker 3: you're commentating a game that's blown out by twenty points,
- 42:31Speaker 3: it's so good to have something else to talk about, right,
- 42:33Speaker 3: So that you got the bonus point, but it also
- 42:35Speaker 3: meant that teams really scrambled to win quarters. Yeah, so
- 42:39Speaker 3: you know, like there was no such thing as a
- 42:41Speaker 3: dead rubber. Every quarter matted, and I think in the end,
- 42:44Speaker 3: that's cool. It's testing my very It was a while ago,
- 42:46Speaker 3: but I don't know that it affected the integrity of
- 42:48Speaker 3: the ladder that much. But then you didn't want to
- 42:50Speaker 3: be a team that missed out even if you won
- 42:52Speaker 3: more games but lost quarters.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So yeah, at the end, it was it was the
- 42:56Speaker 2: remember the final game, the final quarter, and what happened
- 43:01Speaker 2: was going to decide who made fourth spot on the ladder.
- 43:05Speaker 2: That's what I did. It had this level of excitement
- 43:08Speaker 2: that just kept going and going and going.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I loved it helpful to commentate.
- 43:15Speaker 3: It's right, they're very helpful to commentators.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Because job is easier to do than an umpire's job. Catherine,
- 43:21Speaker 1: it's your job, apparently.
- 43:24Speaker 2: And I wanted it like this was really disappointing. And
- 43:27Speaker 2: what Carolyn's talking about is on our Facebook page after
- 43:31Speaker 2: the game, there was a bit of criticism of me
- 43:33Speaker 2: being biased towards the Swifts, and yes, we have just
- 43:36Speaker 2: come off a big chat about the Swifts and what
- 43:39Speaker 2: a great club it was to play for, and we
- 43:42Speaker 2: did the dinner on the Friday night and I did
- 43:44Speaker 2: a great post about the necklace and all that sort
- 43:46Speaker 2: of stuff. It doesn't mean that then that carries over
- 43:49Speaker 2: to me rocking up to the game on the Saturday
- 43:51Speaker 2: and on all Swifts the week before. You would have
- 43:55Speaker 2: all thought I was a Queensland Firebird supporter. So this
- 43:59Speaker 2: is what Straights me so much. Of course, in a
- 44:03Speaker 2: game where everyone thinks the Vixens are going to win,
- 44:07Speaker 2: and I mean, what was the starts on the tipping
- 44:09Speaker 2: comp for that, Carolyn, Do we know how many people
- 44:12Speaker 2: tip vixens.
- 44:13Speaker 1: But most people tipped Vixens. I think ninety percent of
- 44:17Speaker 1: our tippers in the Valor Dribblers tipping comp tipped the Vixens.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I'm just scrolling. Yeah they so, Yeah, six hundred and
- 44:25Speaker 1: seventy six out of seven hundred and forty tippers said
- 44:28Speaker 1: Vixens would win.
- 44:29Speaker 2: That so les Yeah, so of course there's big injuries
- 44:34Speaker 2: out when the Swifts then can stay with the Vixens,
- 44:38Speaker 2: I am going to be talking them last. Yeah, that's
- 44:41Speaker 2: the story of the game. We all thought the Vixens
- 44:44Speaker 2: were going to win, so that that's not biased people.
- 44:48Speaker 2: That's us trying to do our job and make an
- 44:50Speaker 2: interesting game and an exciting game and talk about the
- 44:53Speaker 2: story of the game. It's funny how any other time product.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Isn't it absolute? But it's funny how any other that
- 45:00Speaker 2: there's a blowout and I'm blowing sunshine up Queensland Firebirds
- 45:03Speaker 2: or the Thunderbirds when they smash the sweets round one.
- 45:07Speaker 2: No one is then accusing you of being biased towards
- 45:10Speaker 2: those teams, and it really is starting to annoy me.
- 45:14Speaker 3: It's interesting, right, you do a job in the public areada,
- 45:16Speaker 3: and you expect a certain level of criticism as you
- 45:19Speaker 3: as a commentator, like you're paid to give an opinion,
- 45:22Speaker 3: and everyone's got opinions. Some of people are different to yours,
- 45:26Speaker 3: but you know enough to give an educated opinion, and
- 45:30Speaker 3: there is no doubt that there are times in games
- 45:33Speaker 3: that you do get really wrapped up in the excitement
- 45:36Speaker 3: of the match. Yes, that is your job because you
- 45:39Speaker 3: are trying to tell the people at home what it's
- 45:41Speaker 3: like here, this is amazing, this is this, this is that,
- 45:44Speaker 3: and absolute one hundred percent sure you do the same thing.
- 45:47Speaker 3: But when I was commentating, we would always in the
- 45:49Speaker 3: pre match meeting talk about what's the story of the game,
- 45:51Speaker 3: What's something that we want to start talk about at
- 45:53Speaker 3: the start, So you might talk about a matchup, or
- 45:56Speaker 3: a player to watch, or an issue that you would
- 45:59Speaker 3: have threads through the whole game, because you know that
- 46:02Speaker 3: for people who know netball and love it, they probably
- 46:04Speaker 3: don't need your commentary to enjoy the game. They can
- 46:07Speaker 3: do their own analysis. And you know, some of the
- 46:09Speaker 3: things I read in than not dri were Facebook page.
- 46:11Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, that person knows a bit more about
- 46:14Speaker 3: that than me. That's an excellent opinion. Right. So when
- 46:19Speaker 3: I know that a lot of people who are Uber fans,
- 46:22Speaker 3: I mean, they could do their own commentary and get
- 46:24Speaker 3: it right. But what trying to do also used to
- 46:27Speaker 3: make the game accessible for people who might just be
- 46:30Speaker 3: flicking over, because you know that it's your job to
- 46:33Speaker 3: grow the game as well as service the people who
- 46:35Speaker 3: know what they're talking about. So, you know, one of
- 46:37Speaker 3: the things that when we were at Channel nine Keley
- 46:39Speaker 3: DeVry was executive producer, that she did was have these
- 46:42Speaker 3: little little snippets of the rules, explain the rules they
- 46:45Speaker 3: were playing the bottom left or right hand corner of
- 46:47Speaker 3: the screen. She got crucified in some parts of the
- 46:51Speaker 3: interwebs because people like, we know the rules. Yet you
- 46:54Speaker 3: know the rules, But for someone who's just flicking on, going,
- 46:57Speaker 3: what's that about? Look at the bottom left end. I'll
- 47:00Speaker 3: tell you. If you know the rules, keep watching the game,
- 47:02Speaker 3: don't look at the bottom left hand corner. Right. So
- 47:04Speaker 3: you know, if you're trying to please everybody, you'll end
- 47:07Speaker 3: up pleasing nobody, so you sort of have to do
- 47:09Speaker 3: your job. But I will say I was sad when
- 47:12Speaker 3: I saw that commentary about you being bias Katherine on
- 47:15Speaker 3: our No Drible Side, because I thought there's lots of
- 47:17Speaker 3: places on the interwebsite you can go to vent where
- 47:20Speaker 3: Catherine Cox is not an administrator on the site and
- 47:22Speaker 3: her best friend is also not administrator. So I just
- 47:26Speaker 3: look at that and go, you know, And I was
- 47:28Speaker 3: thinking about this overnight, like what what social media has
- 47:32Speaker 3: done is allowing you to say the things that you
- 47:36Speaker 3: would have yelled at your television, yeah, much to a
- 47:40Speaker 3: much broader audience. Like I think back to when I
- 47:43Speaker 3: was a kid and we used to laugh at my dad.
- 47:46Speaker 3: He would he would yell at Ray Warren on the
- 47:49Speaker 3: Rugby League commentary and he would have plenty to say
- 47:51Speaker 3: about it. But that it's stayed in our land route.
- 47:54Speaker 3: I laugh at my husband, who is not on social media.
- 47:56Speaker 3: The meat trade does not have a social media account.
- 47:59Speaker 3: He when he watches rugby, he has lots to say,
- 48:02Speaker 3: and me and the kids sit outside the land room
- 48:03Speaker 3: and clutch our sides and cry with laughter as he's yelling.
- 48:07Speaker 3: But that's the only place that goes right the moment
- 48:10Speaker 3: you pick up your phone and amplify it. It's actually
- 48:13Speaker 3: not the right thing to do, even if you're doing
- 48:15Speaker 3: it in a foorum where someone can't hear. To accuse
- 48:16Speaker 3: somebody of not having professional integrity is a pretty grave
- 48:21Speaker 3: sort of accusation. So I wouldn't say maybe just think
- 48:24Speaker 3: about it. I think that doesn't mean that we expect
- 48:27Speaker 3: the Dribbler's Facebook page to be somewhere where you come
- 48:31Speaker 3: and tell us how good we are.
- 48:32Speaker 2: But if you want, and if you had a.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Question about like Cat's commentary or anything else, I think
- 48:39Speaker 3: this is a place you can put it up because
- 48:41Speaker 3: it's how you learn about the crupt, like what we're
- 48:43Speaker 3: trying to do and how we're trying to bring the
- 48:45Speaker 3: game to the super fans, but also to people who
- 48:48Speaker 3: are just discovering it. And so there's sort of a
- 48:51Speaker 3: bit of a balance there anyway, Catherine. I mean, I
- 48:53Speaker 3: always love listening to your commentary, as you know, because
- 48:55Speaker 3: I often send you text messages during the game to
- 48:57Speaker 3: tell you what I think, yes see, and.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, So I'm sorry. I didn't mean
- 49:02Speaker 2: to turn that into a thing, but it is when
- 49:04Speaker 2: we try so hard not to be, but try to
- 49:08Speaker 2: talk the game up and keep it exciting. I really
- 49:10Speaker 2: hate that.
- 49:11Speaker 1: That gets lost in translation, and just for a little
- 49:14Speaker 1: bit of you know, lifting the veil on what happens
- 49:16Speaker 1: here at No Dribble. So Liz and I had a
- 49:18Speaker 1: chat about I took posts down in the Facebook group
- 49:22Speaker 1: on the weekend that are criticizing the commentators. It's so,
- 49:25Speaker 1: you know what, you got the whole rest of the
- 49:27Speaker 1: internet to do that. We're trying to build a positive
- 49:30Speaker 1: space here, and essentially this is our lound room. This
- 49:34Speaker 1: is the No Dribble lound room. So you're invited in.
- 49:36Speaker 1: We want everybody here, but they come in and sit
- 49:39Speaker 1: in our loundroom and tell us we're shit at our
- 49:41Speaker 1: jobs and then keep giving us free entertainment.
- 49:43Speaker 2: You know.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I just so we took that down. I'm going to
- 49:46Speaker 1: be much more vigilant. I think what we've got is
- 49:47Speaker 1: an influx of people who are new. I think that's awesome.
- 49:51Speaker 1: We really need it to scale the game and the podcast.
- 49:54Speaker 1: But they might not understand that what we have here
- 49:56Speaker 1: is a beautiful community. And you know, so there's a
- 49:59Speaker 1: lot of posts going up that their normal Dribbler posts,
- 50:03Speaker 1: which we all love, we have a laugh about and
- 50:05Speaker 1: people going I think that's a stupid post, or you're
- 50:08Speaker 1: an idiot, or that's pointless or whatever. It's actually you're wrong.
- 50:11Speaker 1: So we're going to try to get people to understand
- 50:15Speaker 1: that they're very welcome here. But we don't want people
- 50:17Speaker 1: to come in and tell us to shut up and
- 50:20Speaker 1: listen to them bitch about the game and the commentary
- 50:23Speaker 1: and whatever.
- 50:24Speaker 3: So yeah, you know what, it just means that we've
- 50:26Speaker 3: got to spend five minutes being serious when we could
- 50:29Speaker 3: just spend five minutes taking the piece there exactly.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Thank you down off my soapbox. But may I say
- 50:36Speaker 1: to all of our dribblers who are doing what you
- 50:40Speaker 1: do so on particularly, can I just give a bit
- 50:42Speaker 1: of a shout out to Daryl Milton. I mean we
- 50:45Speaker 1: always throw jobs to Daryl. I want to throw them
- 50:47Speaker 1: a bit of love like he is. He's probably the
- 50:50Speaker 1: number one dribbler. He has really with us created this community.
- 50:55Speaker 1: I've met Daryl once, Liz and CAF I don't think
- 50:58Speaker 1: have met him in person. Yeah, oh you've met Dar okay,
- 51:02Speaker 1: but but it's like Daryl, Darryl hasn't been mates with
- 51:05Speaker 1: us for twenty years and come in and helped us
- 51:07Speaker 1: set this up. Out of the goodness of his heart,
- 51:09Speaker 1: he and the love of the sport. He puts up
- 51:12Speaker 1: these funny posts. He builds memes. And you know, we've
- 51:15Speaker 1: got the Daryl's and the Barbs, and the Nickis and
- 51:18Speaker 1: the Jones and the Anne Maries and the Sharon's, and
- 51:20Speaker 1: the Donners and the Niela's, and the Chrises and the
- 51:23Speaker 1: Joshuas and the Daniels, and we want everybody.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Do you know what I feel like?
- 51:28Speaker 2: Then?
- 51:28Speaker 3: Do you remember Halla, nice miss Lena with the magic mirrors.
- 51:34Speaker 1: And I can see Darryl and I can see Miela.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Anyway, That's exactly what I thought of I ever never
- 51:42Speaker 3: never said Liz.
- 51:46Speaker 1: All right, before we get off our knickball segment, I
- 51:49Speaker 1: need to give a quick update on the Valadariblers tipping
- 51:52Speaker 1: comp because it's getting exciting. We have two people sitting
- 51:56Speaker 1: in out right first place, Cass and Crewe, which sounds
- 51:58Speaker 1: like a multiple team and defender's rule. They're both on
- 52:01Speaker 1: twenty five points, sitting in twenty four on equal second
- 52:06Speaker 1: netball Betty, Eryl and Shay. They're on twenty four points,
- 52:10Speaker 1: so that's pretty exciting Vanessa whose tipping name is here
- 52:16Speaker 1: if you need who's a Thunderbirds fan. So she had
- 52:19Speaker 1: a great weekend. She is our tipper of the round
- 52:21Speaker 1: and has won the fifty dollar Vala voucher. A little
- 52:26Speaker 1: bit of an update about what's going on in our world.
- 52:29Speaker 1: In the Hosts and Heroes ladder, we've had a bit
- 52:33Speaker 1: of a shakeup. So on equal first Bassinators who won
- 52:36Speaker 1: last year, and Alexa Prino Besty.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Yes, she's pulled ahead.
- 52:43Speaker 1: And I will say if you don't listen, if you
- 52:44Speaker 1: don't follow Alexa on Instagram, you are missing out. She
- 52:48Speaker 1: does some great analysis, great content. What's what are the
- 52:51Speaker 1: young people call it?
- 52:52Speaker 2: Content?
- 52:54Speaker 1: Your netball bestie Darryl Milton is sitting in second place,
- 52:58Speaker 1: So Bassinator is and Alexa on twenty one. Darryl's on
- 53:01Speaker 1: nineteen with Catherine Cox also on the nineteen. What is
- 53:05Speaker 1: on eighteen? The Needdie noom me, I'm on seventeen because
- 53:08Speaker 1: I went I went a little bit bold on the weekend.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I thought the Vixens would win, but I tipped the
- 53:12Speaker 1: Swifts because I thought I've got to start playing for
- 53:15Speaker 1: my premiership. Here Keeley's on sixteen and the meat Tray
- 53:19Speaker 1: is sitting on eleven points only tipping the home games obviously,
- 53:23Speaker 1: but twenty people got six points this week, so they
- 53:26Speaker 1: tipped all four games correctly and then got the bonus
- 53:28Speaker 1: point and tipped the margin of the Swifts Fixens games.
- 53:32Speaker 1: So I think, God, pretty yeah, there's twenty of them.
- 53:37Speaker 1: We should maybe get them to do videos which were
- 53:40Speaker 1: a worris And just so you know, this week this
- 53:43Speaker 1: year we ask people to give an indication of what
- 53:46Speaker 1: team they support the most successful tippers. So the highest
- 53:50Speaker 1: average score is held by Fever supporters at the moment,
- 53:54Speaker 1: followed by Thunderbirds, then Vixen's, then Lightning, then no Team,
- 53:58Speaker 1: then Giants, Swifts and Firebirds. So I think there's a
- 54:02Speaker 1: lot of Swifts and Firebirds fans who were tipping with
- 54:06Speaker 1: their hearts and not their heads.
- 54:08Speaker 3: But that is okay.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Valor Dribbler's tipping comp getting as exciting as the Sun
- 54:13Speaker 1: Corp Super Netball comp.
- 54:16Speaker 2: And quick shout out to underage nationals this week, isn't it?
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yes?
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yes, yeap go go guys.
- 54:25Speaker 1: And last week I said the Kelpies were playing, but
- 54:28Speaker 1: it was it wasn't It was the men's national men
- 54:30Speaker 1: sober in Perth. So yeah, congratulations, guys. All right, take
- 54:34Speaker 1: a quick break and then we're going to come back
- 54:35Speaker 1: because I've got some Asked the Goat questions and men
- 54:37Speaker 1: were running on this week. But there's been a lot
- 54:39Speaker 1: to talk about. Okay, you know this segment often we
- 54:54Speaker 1: have things that make you go hmm, but I think
- 54:55Speaker 1: we did that in the last segment. So we won't
- 54:58Speaker 1: get to play the sting this week. But we also
- 55:00Speaker 1: have a segment called Ask the Goat, the Goat being
- 55:04Speaker 1: the greatest of all time, of course being miss Elizabeth Ellis,
- 55:08Speaker 1: who we have sitting here. And I moaned a bit
- 55:12Speaker 1: last week and said, we're not getting questions. If you
- 55:14Speaker 1: have a question for the Goat, email it to info
- 55:17Speaker 1: at no Dribble dot com dot au. And a couple
- 55:20Speaker 1: of people came back to me and pointed out quite
- 55:23Speaker 1: rightly that they have sent in questions for the Goat
- 55:26Speaker 1: and I'm just inefficient. One of those is old friends
- 55:29Speaker 1: Annie Marie from way up North, and Annie had a
- 55:32Speaker 1: question about her passion fruit vine which was not flowering
- 55:35Speaker 1: or producing fruit, and she said that in so long
- 55:39Speaker 1: ago when we introduced this segment at the beginning of
- 55:42Speaker 1: this but that problem has now gone and she is
- 55:45Speaker 1: getting a lot of fruit. But thank you, Annie, we
- 55:47Speaker 1: appreciate you. But I've got a couple of asked the
- 55:51Speaker 1: Goat questions. The first one I'm going to read it,
- 55:55Speaker 1: but I think that it might be we need to
- 55:58Speaker 1: we might need to throw this one to some different expertise.
- 56:01Speaker 1: But this one comes from Rebecca. I'm coaching an under
- 56:05Speaker 1: eleven's Western District Sports Club netball team on beautiful Kangaroo Island.
- 56:09Speaker 1: We have four players. I bet they could still beat
- 56:13Speaker 1: my under elevens from last year. Anyway. We also have
- 56:16Speaker 1: a great bunch of undernines filling into play each week,
- 56:19Speaker 1: although they will train separately. I have two questions, what
- 56:23Speaker 1: would be the best training strategy for these future sports
- 56:26Speaker 1: stars was such a small group? And also, what is
- 56:29Speaker 1: the best coaching resource you know of? Is there an
- 56:31Speaker 1: elusive netball bible out there somewhere with lots of fabulous
- 56:35Speaker 1: coaching information? So I'm going to throw this to the goat,
- 56:41Speaker 1: but I also think I might take this one on
- 56:45Speaker 1: notice and ask Gordy for some thoughts on this peak. She,
- 56:50Speaker 1: of course, was the Australians Under twenty one's coach was
- 56:54Speaker 1: a Singapore national coach and has a wealth of netball
- 56:59Speaker 1: information in here. The Bible has not come out of
- 57:02Speaker 1: Sue Gordion's head, but I'm going to ask her, Rebecca,
- 57:04Speaker 1: but Liz, you're the goat.
- 57:07Speaker 3: I was just going to say, I asked Sue Gordion.
- 57:09Speaker 3: So when I was coaching kids and I couldn't get
- 57:11Speaker 3: them to all think about running, like not follow the
- 57:14Speaker 3: ball like a little hive of bees, she gave me
- 57:16Speaker 3: a drill. Hi, Ragan, I'm like, what I do. She
- 57:19Speaker 3: gave me this drill that got been thinking about coronors
- 57:22Speaker 3: in the court and it changed the waving played. So, yeah,
- 57:25Speaker 3: there is a Bible. It's called Sue Gordion's head. And
- 57:27Speaker 3: I would encourage her to get the stuff that's in
- 57:29Speaker 3: her head out on paper or on the interwebs so
- 57:32Speaker 3: that we can all see it. And only other piece
- 57:34Speaker 3: of advice is give them lollies. That's what I used
- 57:36Speaker 3: to get the kids to come to training and enjoy it.
- 57:38Speaker 3: They just knew they got lollies at the end.
- 57:41Speaker 1: And the lollly salad, which was something you've introduced us
- 57:44Speaker 1: to on a previous episode, which is obviously big at
- 57:47Speaker 1: REP Carnivals.
- 57:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that didn't go down well. My kid just about
- 57:50Speaker 3: moment at all the way home. But anyway, don't go
- 57:52Speaker 3: to lolly salad. Just go some lollies at the end
- 57:54Speaker 3: and then wait for Sue Gordion to tell you the
- 57:57Speaker 3: answer I think is yeah. But there's no There is
- 57:59Speaker 3: no netball Bible. There is some like if you if
- 58:02Speaker 3: you google.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Men should write it.
- 58:05Speaker 3: Some old men who went anyway, I was going to
- 58:08Speaker 3: be really inappropriate. Then look at me getting a filter.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what.
- 58:14Speaker 3: I love to do. There's actually some I know. There's
- 58:17Speaker 3: actually some good stuff on Instagram if you just follow
- 58:20Speaker 3: some netball pages or just search for netball drills and
- 58:22Speaker 3: I often I follow, like I follow other sports pages
- 58:26Speaker 3: and you'll see like soccer or rugby or whatever or whatever.
- 58:29Speaker 3: They just put up drills. They're easy to adapt. That's
- 58:31Speaker 3: hard thinking I.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Saw something during the week. Maybe Sophie Garbin is actually
- 58:35Speaker 1: setting up a little kind of Sophie shooters training thing.
- 58:39Speaker 2: So didn't you have a website, Catherine, I did. I
- 58:43Speaker 2: put a lot of work into that. Actually it was
- 58:45Speaker 2: meant to be that you just cut and paste the
- 58:47Speaker 2: training drills into a session and it did. It worked well.
- 58:51Speaker 2: But it's it's a lot to maintain.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And can I just ask when you say you put
- 58:56Speaker 1: a lot of work into it.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Put it together.
- 58:58Speaker 1: A website is not son that is in your current
- 59:01Speaker 1: skill set.
- 59:02Speaker 2: So no content content Carolyn. And then I had you
- 59:06Speaker 2: know it, people do that stuff.
- 59:08Speaker 1: All right, because I've had the jobs for you.
- 59:10Speaker 3: If you're a web wiz.
- 59:12Speaker 2: No, no, you see my eyes glaze over every time
- 59:15Speaker 2: we had technical issues at your.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Place, all right, So ask the goat there this one, Liz,
- 59:21Speaker 1: I'm going to throw to you, And this one is
- 59:25Speaker 1: from Nikki, who is a longtime fan of the podcast
- 59:30Speaker 1: but also doing her damnedest to win the Golden Turkey
- 59:35Speaker 1: in the Valadridlers Tipping comp this year. You get the
- 59:37Speaker 1: golden Turkey. Is obviously a very prestigious prize that is
- 59:40Speaker 1: awarded to last place, and we have a few really
- 59:43Speaker 1: trying hard for it, but Nicki's one of them. If
- 59:46Speaker 1: you had to describe and Catherine, I'm going to ask
- 59:48Speaker 1: you this too, if you had to describe your playing
- 59:50Speaker 1: style using only three emojis, what would they be?
- 59:59Speaker 3: Things I could say?
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: I know mine's well, the shooting there's a shooting star nice.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: The first one yeah, I would definitely have like a
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: crown or tiara or some lipstick or something, yes, because
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: I have to lean into the joke, yep. And then
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: I think I would have like a big, a big
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: cruise liner because I got Liz and I both got
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: told one time we corner like.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: That, Queen Mary, could I just lift the veil here
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: a little bit? Carolin, do you word us up about this?
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: And Catherine sent through hers and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: the shooting star I get, the princess I get, and
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: then there's a cruise liner, and what.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: It's not to come and ride me or anything like that.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Lizs oh, well, wouldn't that be a change anyway?
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Oh that's good. I like that. Catherine.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Okay, you're the goat. What would your
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: three emojis be? If you had to describe your playing
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: style using only three emojis? What would they be?
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: The little hundred Because even when I wasn't playing well,
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: I was I always gave a hundred percent. I tossed
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: up between that and a donkey because I was stubborn
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: and persistent. So you could I do back in the
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: days when my ass didn't hang to my knees, yes,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: and my other one was like a fist, you know,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: the fist yeah, well, like you know, because I tried
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: to play really hard. And then I saw like the
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: fist pump because I used to try and rev up
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: my team. And then my last one is the little
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: you know, the devil that's smiling. Yep, I was. I
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: used to be a little bit naughty, but I enjoyed myself.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: You can't describe yourself as I agree. I agree, you
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: can't describe.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: When we get off the phone from each other. In
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: this podcast, we need to send each other's amojis. I'm
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: gonna do lizards, yeah can do Liz can do Carolin's
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: and Carolyn you can do me well.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I chose mine as well, and this reflects I think.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: So the question is if you had to describe your
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: playing style using only three emojis, I've of course gone
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: with the Pooh emoji, a clown and the love heart
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: because I played for the love of the game. You
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: love it, not because I was particularly good at it,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: but yes.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: I look for so.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: So you're I'm sending you yours, Catherine, and you're sending Liz,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and Liz has to send me mine beautiful. Okay, all right,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: we'll do a little We'll do a little post on
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: the socials of what the emojis are that we how
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: we self reflect and how we reflect on one another,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: or maybe we need to do each each of us
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: needs to do the other two.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: And I want to see some of the dribblers nice.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Do you know I have not had anyone send me
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: a note saying that they have a tattoo of the team,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: you know, after last asking last week about the guy
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: who had the massive Brisbane broncost tattoo on the back
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: of his calf, I saw him.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: We have a good community.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say, either that or they're
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: lying and the common sound.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Well, we've gone way over. I do need to do
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: a quick no dribble recommends though, because this has been
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: such a life saver for me. I told you went
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: to Orange on the weekend. My mother in law's gone
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: into a nursing home, so we was sorting out her house.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So I didn't get back until quite late last night.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: But every Sunday I get a little box of help
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: delivered to my house and that's from a company called
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: quite Like. So it's a meal prep a meal box
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you know, there's hellow Fresh Malley Spoon. I've used all
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: of them over the years and for working parents with
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: busy kids and the like. I just I love quite Like.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I don't know if it's over in the West yet
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: or in South Australia, but it's certainly along the Eastern seaboard.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I cannot recommend it highly enough. I have used some
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: in the past and thought I'm really sick of roasted
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: sweet potato and roasted red onion. Quite Like has very good,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: varied recipes, and they have kangaroo in their most weeks,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: and I think I ought to eat more kangaroo because
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: it's a very sustainable protein and but it's hard to cook.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: It's hard to cook well, so they're teaching me that.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: So I want to get and not paid for this.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: This is just straight off, I am a user. And
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: then every now and then, before I even think about
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: winging about the price, they go, oh, your third recipe
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: is free this week. It's like surprise and delight, thank
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: you very much, so right.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: On board, Like what is it again?
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Quite Like? I don't know whether it's up your way maybe,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: but I highly recommend it if it is. But I
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: just I don't know. I can't. I can't make dinner
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: every night for the rest of my life and think
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: of what.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: It is like.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: It's just I love cooking, but making dinner is different,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: isn't it. This to my fin Angela pointed that out
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: there's cooking and then there's making dinner. And you have
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: to make dinner every night, but every so often you
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: get to immerse yourself in your cooking and enjoy it,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: and that's lovely making dinners.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: You made me hungry your ham cheese and pineapple toasted wrap.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: I think pineapple?
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, O controversial today?
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: Can we part this for another Yeah?
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Can we talk about it? Because you have strong views
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: about pineapple?
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Do you strong views?
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: No Hawaiian pizza? How did I not notice about your
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: How are we friends?
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: This is so interesting, so rageous, it's all falling apart.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: I had some of Austin's makes over his birthday last week,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: and I made the pizzas in one of them. I
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: know likes ham and pineapple, so I made a ham
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: and pineapple and there was heats leftover of different pizzas,
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: and normally my kids hoover it all up. Three days later,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: there was still ham and pineapple pizza leftover? It is
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: pineapple does not belong to a pizza anyway? Can we
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: have this conversation another day? This is a long episode.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Is the ninety ninth episode the final episode of No
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Dribble because we're going to completely fracture over fruit on pizzas?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Who would have thought one of us would die a
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: heel over pineapple?
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: But next week is one hundred episodes?
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Oh correct, Yeah, that makes you a centurion, Carolyn, because
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: you're the person who's been here for the.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Whole hundred I'm the only one who shows up for
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: work every week. It's exciting because I think we know
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: when we started this podcast, we were told that a
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: lot of podcasts fold after two episodes. It's not really
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: putting in your best effort, guys? Is it to start
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: a podcast and go, oh, I've done it twice? I'm exhausted,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I'm out, I'm done.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Yes, anyway, let's see if we get there.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: All right? Well, I'm going to New Zealand this evening
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: to see my family and go to my aunt and
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: uncle's sixtieth wedding anniversary. So I shall be watching from
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: afar again. But have a great week.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Everyone.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: I'm Carolyn swindle.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: On cath Cox and I'm Lyzellis. Bye, Carolynd do it? Yeah?
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Why she's she done?
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: I don't know. It's hard to say because she's so little.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: I think she's just hung up. What will never say?
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: How did she get to a hundred before we did?
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Like we're the Centurions.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but maybe we can Kneecapper this week and someone
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: get Ramelder at the same time and we're good to go.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Oh yep, good idea. All right, chats thet me get
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: onto it.
