Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What's going on, Emily Body Here? You are listening to
- 0:23Speaker 1: five Minute Friday, and it is a good Friday because
- 0:26Speaker 1: I am heading up to Boston for some fun stuff
- 0:31Speaker 1: this weekend that I hope if your local I get
- 0:33Speaker 1: to see you at. I chatted about this last Friday,
- 0:36Speaker 1: but I'll be stopping by a myriad of places, including
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Bandit pop up at one nineteen Mulberry, as well
- 0:44Speaker 1: as Nike's Women's Community Night on Saturday night and a
- 0:47Speaker 1: shakeout on Sunday morning. I'm going to link all of
- 0:50Speaker 1: this goodness in the show notes for anyone else who's
- 0:53Speaker 1: local to the area. With that said, it's also a
- 0:57Speaker 1: good Friday because I am making it a good, good Friday.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That's what I want to talk about for five Minute
- 1:03Speaker 1: Friday Today. I'm seeing how many times I can say
- 1:06Speaker 1: the word Friday in the first minute of this podcast.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Apparently I digress. This morning, I got an email that
- 1:14Speaker 1: really bothered me and I went to text my best
- 1:19Speaker 1: friend to vent about it. And as I opened the
- 1:23Speaker 1: text message in that moment, I made a choice to
- 1:28Speaker 1: tell her about a small win that I had at
- 1:31Speaker 1: the gym where I added weight to my overhead press,
- 1:34Speaker 1: which felt very exciting, and I felt super strong, and
- 1:38Speaker 1: so I told her about that and focused on that
- 1:41Speaker 1: and decided not to give any energy at that moment
- 1:45Speaker 1: to the thing that had been frustrating me. And I
- 1:49Speaker 1: realized by making this choice, by choosing to focus on
- 1:52Speaker 1: the good, that good things started to flow toward me.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I had a really nice morning and really great lunch
- 2:00Speaker 1: with a friend and got back to some unexpected good
- 2:05Speaker 1: news in my inbox later that day and was just
- 2:08Speaker 1: reminded of what I already know. That energy attracts like energy.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I feel like that is the theme of twenty twenty
- 2:16Speaker 1: four here, and I know I say it all the
- 2:18Speaker 1: time on the show, But where your focus goes, energy flows,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm going to say this again. I know you've probably
- 2:26Speaker 1: heard it before. Where your focus goes, energy flows. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: so I choose to stay focused on the things that
- 2:37Speaker 1: serve me. And it's not always easy, right in fact,
- 2:40Speaker 1: in this life where most of our thoughts every day
- 2:44Speaker 1: are negative. Seriously, according to a research conducted by the
- 2:48Speaker 1: National Science Foundation, I think the statistic is around eighty
- 2:51Speaker 1: percent of our thoughts are negative. The brain has a
- 2:54Speaker 1: built in negative bias that causes us to focus on
- 2:58Speaker 1: bad things which isn't there kind But you are the
- 3:02Speaker 1: person who gets to break the system. And so this
- 3:05Speaker 1: prompts the question do you want to what is it
- 3:09Speaker 1: that you want and what is within your control to
- 3:12Speaker 1: go after it? There's power in your perspective and you
- 3:15Speaker 1: have that power. Let me empower you on this Friday.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So my thought prompt for you is where are you
- 3:25Speaker 1: focusing your attention and your energy and is that giving
- 3:31Speaker 1: you the result that you'd hoped for? Where are you
- 3:35Speaker 1: currently giving your focus and is it giving you the
- 3:40Speaker 1: results that you want? And now a listener question.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Hey Emily Rachel from New York here. I love your
- 3:47Speaker 2: podcast and was hoping you can help answer my question.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I guess I struggle with motivation sometimes and my everyday
- 3:54Speaker 2: routine can seem repetitive and mundane most days. So I'm
- 3:58Speaker 2: wondering how do you motivate yourself or I guess, how
- 4:01Speaker 2: do you hype yourself up to go about your daily
- 4:03Speaker 2: Monday through Friday routine. Any insight would be helpful.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Thank you, Hi Rachel, thank you for this. I first
- 4:11Speaker 1: want to disclaim that I don't every day wake up
- 4:15Speaker 1: with abundant amounts of energy and everything that feels absolutely
- 4:19Speaker 1: effortless because I have a strong why. That's not exactly
- 4:22Speaker 1: how it works, but what I do have is that
- 4:26Speaker 1: strong why, which helps me show up on the days
- 4:29Speaker 1: where my energy or my motivation also feels like it's
- 4:34Speaker 1: wearing off a little bit. And so I have two
- 4:37Speaker 1: big tips for anyone who feels like their motivation is
- 4:41Speaker 1: going out the window when you're feeling a little bit blah.
- 4:44Speaker 1: The first is what I just mentioned, having a strong
- 4:48Speaker 1: connection to your why with anything that you're doing within
- 4:51Speaker 1: your life. You want to live each day in purpose,
- 4:56Speaker 1: on purpose, right, and so knowing that you certain goals,
- 5:01Speaker 1: ask yourself, what is it about these things that makes
- 5:04Speaker 1: me excited? And perhaps there's something in your life that
- 5:07Speaker 1: you're not all that jazzed about. Maybe you are at
- 5:11Speaker 1: a certain job right now that really does feel like
- 5:15Speaker 1: a job, but that job affords you the opportunity to
- 5:19Speaker 1: do certain things, or perhaps provides you the money that
- 5:24Speaker 1: you need to do the things that otherwise excite you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: There is a why for everything that you're doing, so
- 5:31Speaker 1: find a strong connection to that, and that why will
- 5:35Speaker 1: help you show up day in and day out. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: then the second thing is have some sort of a
- 5:41Speaker 1: regular check in process with an accountability partner. So, yes,
- 5:45Speaker 1: the day to day can get a bit mundane, but
- 5:48Speaker 1: maybe it's a little easier if before you get going
- 5:52Speaker 1: with your workday at nine am, you text a friend
- 5:55Speaker 1: and you tell them to highlights of your morning or too,
- 6:00Speaker 1: highlights from the past forty eight hours. These little gratitude
- 6:03Speaker 1: moments and an accountability buddy combined can be a super
- 6:08Speaker 1: beautiful and helpful force. And you don't need to do
- 6:12Speaker 1: anything drastic. I just said, list two good things from
- 6:15Speaker 1: the past twenty four hours. It won't take that long,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and it'll give you that little extra boost of positivity
- 6:22Speaker 1: to show up and do something that otherwise you're not
- 6:25Speaker 1: all that amped about. There's power in numbers, there's power
- 6:29Speaker 1: in relationships, and trust me, you are worthy of a
- 6:32Speaker 1: climate of support. Make sure you're following along over on
