- 0:00So when, at what point are you insane and just smashing your head against the wall?
- 0:06And at what point do you actually break through to what you're trying to achieve?
- 0:10When you're on the other side of the wall and you've made it through,
- 0:14you realize that everything that you went through was ultimately building you
- 0:18up and creating you and helping you to once you get to that other side stand
- 0:24and be the person that you need to be.
- 0:27I think of a lot of people that it seems like an overnight success.
- 0:30It's actually they've built up about,
- 0:33put in about 10 years or however many years, and you don't see all the things
- 0:37that that person has gone through that you might yourself be going through,
- 0:41and you're just wanting to get to what you have in your mind created as I've made it kind of thing.
- 0:50But when will you ever actually make it?
- 0:53Is there a point? Have you set that point? have you set that benchmark?
- 0:58I think you need to put goals, big-term goals, and then short-term goals because
- 1:03you got to achieve something along the way.
- 1:05You don't have to make it all the way through.
- 1:08And then finally, I've done it. It's all over. Good night, folks.
- 1:12I think of Matt Reif about this because he was a person that had been putting it in his time.
- 1:18He's a hilarious comedian, but he went through his struggles.
- 1:22And I want to actually take a look at this.
- 1:24This is a from him being on Jimmy Fallon this was maybe years ago a couple years ago and,
- 1:30And him giving like he was about to give up and what he was going through.
- 1:34And then he he just said, heck, I'm just going to post this video that I've been I've edited.
- 1:40I've made it. But like I'm not seeing any of the fruits of my labor labor.
- 1:45And he talks about him. He was invited or his friend was invited to go to this
- 1:50to perform in this comedy tour.
- 1:51And he's like, I'm not going without Matt. I'm without my friend.
- 1:55And they're like, well, I'll let him just describe it. It's really cool. but they didn't want me.
- 2:00They wanted Paul and not me. And Paul being a good friend was like,
- 2:03I refuse to do the show without him. Absolutely not.
- 2:05So they said, well, we're not going to pay him. We're not going to pay for his
- 2:07travel, but if he wants to perform, he can perform.
- 2:09So I was like, you know what? I'll swallow my pride. I want to experience what
- 2:12this festival was about.
- 2:13We went, it was arguably the best show of the festival.
- 2:16But before that show, the same night, we were at dinner and I was about to post
- 2:19this clip called the lazy hero, which I had already edited.
- 2:23It was at a show in Phoenix, Arizona for like 75 people.
- 2:26And I was just sitting there. I I was so depleted and depressed at,
- 2:29you know, being at a place I wasn't even invited to perform at.
- 2:32And I was like, this is so stupid. Why am I even bothering posting this stuff?
- 2:36It's not going to do anything.
- 2:36And my friend was like, you already edited it. Just post it and then we'll have a fun time tonight.
- 2:41And then that video over the next couple of days went insanely viral,
- 2:44like 20 to 30 million views.
- 2:46And then that made every other view, every other video on my profile go viral.
- 2:49And everything just kind of exploded out of nowhere. 30 million views.
- 2:53Yeah. So it's insane. That is a good reminder to anyone, to whatever you're doing.
- 2:59If you are in the kind of space of content creation, you're making stuff and
- 3:03you're trying to put it out there for entertainment, for bringing value to somebody,
- 3:07you never know what is going to pop off.
- 3:10You never know what is going to go viral.
- 3:14You never know what is actually going to actually just like hit the airwaves
- 3:19and just resonate with people because your life is, it's an amazing thing that
- 3:24is happening. But a lot of times it's just happening behind closed doors and in your own world.
- 3:28And until you actually start expressing it and showing it to the other people out there,
- 3:33you don't know the impact that you could be having on other people's lives.
- 3:37Not everybody is wanting that. Not everybody's wanting to make stuff like that.
- 3:41But I would say that a lot of people, I think of it being made in the image of God.
- 3:48That God wants to create things. He could have just been God forever and just
- 3:53been himself forever and not expressed it.
- 3:58But he wanted to bring value to his creation. And it's like a painter.
- 4:03A painter just write something, make something amazing or artist,
- 4:06unless someone is viewing it, unless someone is seeing it, you don't really
- 4:10get that full fulfillment of what it could be doing.
- 4:14So just like in your own life, you have so many things that you could be showing
- 4:19to other people and could be bringing value to them.
- 4:22And I think that that is what we all have in us.
- 4:26We have that like innate feeling and just drive that we want to be making something.
- 4:32We want to be creating something that is valuable and it is going to last,
- 4:37you know, not just for today or tomorrow, but it's going to last for a long
- 4:40time, you know, and even extend past our lives and how long that we're going to be here.
- 4:45You know, it's going to be, it's, it's going to be over in an instant.
- 4:47We want to have something that's going to carry on, you know,
- 4:50leave a legacy for our children and for anybody that comes after us, you know?
- 4:54So Matt Reif, he had been putting in his time years, years, and like just not
- 5:00seeing the success of it.
- 5:02One video just goes crazy.
- 5:04And it's never the one you expect.
- 5:08It's never the one that you've put in your blood, sweat, and tears into and
- 5:13you've poured everything into it.
- 5:15People don't care about that a lot of times. It doesn't end up resonating sometimes.
- 5:19It's the things that you least suspect.
- 5:22And like, I think that is like, it's an awesome reminder for me as well as anyone
- 5:27else, like whatever you are just putting your time into and your energy towards,
- 5:32you know, I would say just keep grinding.
- 5:35It might feel like you're in a sane asylum, just smashing your head against
- 5:38a wall, but you don't know maybe that God is keeping you in that sane asylum
- 5:43for a while to build up your character,
- 5:45to make you so that you don't just lose, go off the rails when you do see some success.
- 5:51You need to be humbled a lot of times or I need to be humbled a lot of times,
- 5:55before because if I if I just start getting everything that
- 5:57I would want I would probably not execute and do
- 6:01it like be the good a good person once I have that if somebody if everything's
- 6:06handed into you into your lap and just thrown at you and you just have whatever
- 6:09you want in an instant you're not going to appreciate it it's it's corny to
- 6:15say I always but it's the journey You got it.
- 6:18You got to go through the bumps, the bruises and everything so that when you
- 6:22do see some light, when you do see some light, you'll you'll learn to just.
- 6:27Hey, I, I had to, I had to, I had to fight for this. I had to claw for this.
- 6:32I, and the thing that's going to go off and just, just reach people and just
- 6:36touch people and, and actually bring the value. Cause that is what it is about.
- 6:41It's like, what am I going to do that is going to bring value to someone else?
- 6:45Give, like brighten their day, help them in some part of their life,
- 6:50you know, give them something to think about.
- 6:53Because a lot of times it's never, it's about just things become easy when you understand what to do.
- 6:59Like this, this is going to probably sound stupid to a lot of people.
- 7:02It's going to be, it's actually really stupid. The morning that I think about
- 7:05it and more that it starts coming out of my mouth. I know how stupid it's going to sound.
- 7:09Sometimes I go work out in the morning and I have a, I have a,
- 7:14whatever you put, you know, protein powder in, you, in those things you shake up,
- 7:17they have like, kind of like a spiral thing inside of it that just make this
- 7:20makes the contents of it just dissolve and all that, you know,
- 7:24those shakers for months, I had been trying to just open it, open it.
- 7:30And just, I, I don't know. Sometimes I could open it easy. Sometimes I couldn't.
- 7:33And it wasn't until that I had this little thing that I pushed and then it opened.
- 7:38And you might think you are the stupidest man in life.
- 7:41Yeah, I don't care. But it was a life lesson to me that I, you can just be smashing
- 7:46your head against something until you get a little bit of wisdom that just unlocks everything.
- 7:51Something that might seem insanely hard to you, but you get that little bit
- 7:56of wisdom or something happens by luck or whatever.
- 7:59And then everything clicks that key that unlocks everything.
- 8:04So I would say, keep your eyes open that open for that. Pray for wisdom, pray for wisdom.
- 8:09Cause I think that that is the biggest thing that we all we need and everyone
- 8:13needs because that unlocks everything.
- 8:15And then I also wanted to end on this. Have you ever, this is,
- 8:19I come home from working out and my wife, she asked me, how was your workout?
- 8:24Anything that a lot of times when I get asked about stuff.
- 8:27I don't know how to answer that. I don't know what to say to that.
- 8:31It's like the same thing. Like if somebody asks you, how's your day going? Or how was your lunch?
- 8:35How was your, like, for me, I don't know what to say to those things.
- 8:40And I know to the normal person, because most of you are out there,
- 8:44you're normal. You're normal.
- 8:46But for me, like if someone asks me something, I don't, if it was bad,
- 8:51I don't want to talk about it.
- 8:52If it was good, I don't really care.
- 8:55I just don't know how to answer those types of things. Have you ever been asked
- 8:58that? Like, how was your workout? What would you say?
- 9:01That might sound, I'm just going to show you who I am because that,
- 9:05I mean, I don't know what to say to those things.
- 9:07I don't know conventionalities. Like it's hard for me to be conventional and
- 9:12say just the normal things.
- 9:14I don't know how to respond. And those, I think that is just maybe societal
- 9:18and being socially acceptable and able to blend in and able to like have that
- 9:25conversational nature with anybody.
- 9:28Maybe you got that and I hope you do. But like, have you, have you been asked
- 9:31that? And what would you say to that?
- 9:33If you've had a good workout or not, I've never been able to do that.
- 9:37I've never been able to do that.
- 9:39That's why I think I've never been able to just, just talk normally with my
- 9:43wife or with anybody really, because it's like, it's a struggle to actually
- 9:47just say things that are regular.
- 9:50I don't know how it's, it's, if something is conventional, I am like,
- 9:54I am almost repulsed by it, gagged by it. I don't know.
- 9:59It's like, it goes against me. Like I have to, I have to be original.
- 10:03I have to, you can't just say the, what is in that regular conversational tone,
- 10:09what you say in that. It's hard for me to say that. I'm having a great day.
- 10:13What does that even mean? What is having a great day? I had a good workout.
- 10:17What does that even mean? I think I'm, I tend to overthink and overanalyze. All right.
