Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hour number two here on Sporting State with the next
- 0:02Speaker 1: round presented by our friends at Hard Rock Bets. Week
- 0:05Speaker 1: zero is in the books. Some betting lines out there
- 0:08Speaker 1: in the SEC. There just aren't, other than the two
- 0:11Speaker 1: we just talked about, Ole Miss and LSU. LSU's nine
- 0:15Speaker 1: and a half. Ole Miss is six and a half.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Everything else is just massive double-digit numbers. Auburn. That's a
- 0:23Speaker 1: good one. That's Auburn and Baylor over in Atlanta. That's
- 0:25Speaker 1: a seven-point, six-and-a-half-point floating around game there. That's not a
- 0:29Speaker 1: bad one. I'm just looking across the country, too, Lance.
- 0:32Speaker 1: As far as big games, Thursday night, Colorado and Georgia
- 0:36Speaker 1: Tech in Atlanta, six and a half Georgia Tech. That
- 0:39Speaker 1: seems to be a skinny number.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It does. Yeah. Based on where Colorado is right now.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know what to expect from the Buffaloes.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I kind of expect them to be bad again. And
- 0:49Speaker 2: Georgia Tech is going to be good again, but their
- 0:52Speaker 2: schedule is really difficult.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm digging back in the chat because somebody brought that
- 0:55Speaker 1: up earlier asking, what am I missing here? Why is
- 0:58Speaker 1: that number as low as it is? Georgia Tech going
- 1:01Speaker 1: on the road. Keep in mind. Colorado's coming to Georgia Tech.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Colorado going on the road. Keep in mind.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And playing in Atlanta against Georgia Tech. And it's only
- 1:11Speaker 1: six and a half. That does feel like I'm missing something.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'll tell you the early line. If you can go
- 1:16Speaker 1: jump on it right now for entertainment purposes only or
- 1:20Speaker 1: with our friends at Hard Rock Bets. The first number
- 1:23Speaker 1: I saw last night and this morning on SMU at
- 1:26Speaker 1: Florida State, minus three SMU. A road favor, but a
- 1:30Speaker 1: skinny number. Just what I saw from Florida State, man.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I'd jump all over SMU. That was one of my
- 1:36Speaker 1: first thoughts after Saturday. Watching that Florida State game is
- 1:41Speaker 1: SMU will be the hottest bet team in the nation.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Because Florida State did not look good at all.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I did Atlanta's lock show Saturday morning, and I did
- 1:48Speaker 2: some team totals. And one of the team totals, you know,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I was like, Florida State's going to win today, but
- 1:53Speaker 2: I still would play under their 5.5 team total. You've
- 1:55Speaker 2: got to feel great about that right now. And then
- 1:56Speaker 2: I brought up next week, I was like, you know,
- 1:59Speaker 2: the crazy thing is I could see them beat SMU because,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you know, I'm a contrarian. Everybody is going to be
- 2:04Speaker 2: on SMU. And there's not much you can do with
- 2:05Speaker 2: that number because it was 2.5 last week. Now it's
- 2:07Speaker 2: crept up to 3%. I think it'll go off at
- 2:09Speaker 2: like three and a half or four. But yeah, you're right.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I mean, that thing is going to be public heavy.
- 2:15Speaker 1: They played New Mexico State and got one sack.
- 2:20Speaker 2: One sack.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mean, that is alarming that you can't get to
- 2:24Speaker 1: the quarterback any better than they did against New Mexico State.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Well, and that's one of the reasons New Mexico State
- 2:29Speaker 2: was 10 of 17 on third downs. I thought Florida
- 2:31Speaker 2: State looked horrible.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They looked awful. I think they might look worse than
- 2:34Speaker 1: they did last year. I would tell you this, though,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and I agree with you. I'm not expecting a ton
- 2:40Speaker 1: from Florida State. But in that game, when your next
- 2:43Speaker 1: two games are SMU and Alabama, you don't show all
- 2:46Speaker 1: your cards. You probably keep the stunts and the defensive
- 2:50Speaker 1: scheme as vanilla as you possibly can to get away
- 2:53Speaker 1: with the win. Maybe. Maybe that's it. And we'll see
- 2:55Speaker 1: against SMU. It seems like the folks in Vegas think so.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I think that's the case. Florida State has a different gear.
- 3:01Speaker 1: If it's only minus three with SMU coming to town. Well,
- 3:03Speaker 1: how did you think Ashton Daniels looked? I mean, did
- 3:06Speaker 1: he look any better in that game than you thought
- 3:07Speaker 1: he was going to look? I didn't think so either.
- 3:10Speaker 1: In fact, I thought the New Mexico State quarterback was
- 3:12Speaker 1: the better quarterback in the game. But again, Deuce Robinson,
- 3:14Speaker 1: they didn't do a ton with him. They did not.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I think he had three catches for 50 yards. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: do think Florida State's got some pretty good running backs. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I do. I like their running backs. That's one thing
- 3:22Speaker 1: I would say I like about them. That game's Monday night,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Labor Day night. But all the fun you get with
- 3:29Speaker 1: point spreads and games you can have with our friends
- 3:32Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet. Man, we're excited to hang out
- 3:34Speaker 1: with those folks here, both on sport and state. And
- 3:37Speaker 1: the next time we're out in Vegas, you may know
- 3:40Speaker 1: the Hard Rock name. I do, back to the great
- 3:41Speaker 1: Hard Rock t-shirts all the cool girls used to wear
- 3:44Speaker 1: in high school. Well, now they've got Hard Rock Bet

- 4:55Speaker 1: and enjoy the season with Hard Rock Bet. All right.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Worst coaching job of the weekend was done by who?
- 5:03Speaker 1: You guys were hinting at Mike Norvell for a second,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but I assume.
- 5:06Speaker 2: That's not it. I'm going to go Dave Duran.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Oh, really? Yeah. Tell me why, Lance.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look, you've got going into that game.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Everybody said your marquee guy is C.J. Bailey has his
- 5:16Speaker 2: worst game. And a lot of this does have to
- 5:19Speaker 2: do with Virginia is much better than advertised, especially up
- 5:22Speaker 2: front on both sides of the ball. But for C.J.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Bailey to go out there, go 12 to 23, 84 yards,
- 5:27Speaker 2: only have 33 rushing yards. I just didn't see any
- 5:30Speaker 2: adjustments throughout the game. And they physically got dominated. And
- 5:33Speaker 2: you've got all offseason with this ready-made college football playoff schedule.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Maybe your most difficult game on paper is week one
- 5:41Speaker 2: and to get completely embarrassed and lose all of your
- 5:44Speaker 2: confidence after that trip to Charlottesville. I just thought it
- 5:48Speaker 2: was complete domination. I think Tony Elliott looked like an
- 5:51Speaker 2: elite coach on one side and Dave Duren, who's been
- 5:53Speaker 2: doing it forever. I think he's the longest behind Debo Sweeney,
- 5:57Speaker 2: the second longest tenured coach in the ACC. They just
- 6:00Speaker 2: didn't look prepared.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Dave Duren, since COVID, 8-4, 9-3, 8-5, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I feel like I'm about to watch that again in
- 6:08Speaker 1: five minutes.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's an eight-win team, maybe nine wins
- 6:10Speaker 2: based on the schedule, because it is an easy schedule.
- 6:13Speaker 1: If they get it, no, yeah, that's true. It's an
- 6:14Speaker 1: easy schedule. I just heard all offseason long, From college
- 6:18Speaker 1: football people we had on the show, this C.J. Bailey
- 6:21Speaker 1: guy is a guy to watch.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Oh, I bought in. I bought in.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I did too, Jim. And I was like, I think,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what's going to happen in
- 6:27Speaker 1: this game, but NC State's got the better quarterback. I
- 6:29Speaker 1: saw Pribula play at Missouri, and it was, you know.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Did you play him in our fantasy this weekend, Bailey?
- 6:34Speaker 1: I did as my second quarterback. Oh. Yeah. It was
- 6:36Speaker 1: your starter. I did Maiva, and then I circled back
- 6:39Speaker 1: with C.J. Bailey. Oh, Maiva. Okay, yeah. I did not
- 6:42Speaker 1: score very well. It was my first time doing it.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And then I had Hawaii's quarterback who ended up getting
- 6:47Speaker 2: me some numbers in.
- 6:48Speaker 1: The second half. I was just so disappointed in NC State.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And impressed in Virginia, too. I don't want to just
- 6:56Speaker 1: make it about NC State. I wonder, and I'd love
- 6:59Speaker 1: to hear what the audience thinks about this. Week zero,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you build up so many expectations, and you just want
- 7:05Speaker 1: the games to be so good. And listen, North Carolina
- 7:08Speaker 1: and TCU was entertaining, but I don't know if it
- 7:10Speaker 1: was a great game. Sonny Dykes gets mine. That's mine too.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It's the worst coaching job this weekend because he changed
- 7:18Speaker 1: his offensive style. He brings in Gordon Sammis. Gordon Sammis,
- 7:23Speaker 1: who they showed a lot on the broadcast. And early on,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, Gordon Sammis has a little bit of
- 7:30Speaker 1: a different offense. Not as much as Andy Avalos. No,
- 7:33Speaker 1: but once North Carolina adjusted, I mean, Gordon Sammis, they
- 7:36Speaker 1: couldn't do anything hardly. And you have a Harvard transfer
- 7:39Speaker 1: quarterback in Jaden Craig. And that seems like it seems
- 7:43Speaker 1: to me like a big step up. I'm going to
- 7:45Speaker 1: playing in the Ivy League to my first game is
- 7:48Speaker 1: against a Bill Belichick coach defense. And I don't know
- 7:51Speaker 1: about you guys. Belichick looked more engaged in this game
- 7:53Speaker 1: than he did at all last year. His son's not there.
- 7:57Speaker 1: One son, the other one is. I forgot he had
- 7:59Speaker 1: another one on the staff, of course. He looked like
- 8:01Speaker 1: he was having to call plays. He looked like he
- 8:03Speaker 1: was having fun for the first time since he took
- 8:05Speaker 1: this college gig.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Well, I think he thought maybe it's going to be
- 8:08Speaker 2: a little easier last year, and then I think he
- 8:11Speaker 2: also realized his legacy somewhat, not at stake, but they
- 8:15Speaker 2: don't need to look like absolute shit this year like
- 8:18Speaker 2: they did last year. Back to Jaden Craig and Sonny Dykes,
- 8:21Speaker 2: coming out of fall camp, Sonny Dykes was like, This
- 8:24Speaker 2: kid threw two picks the entire fall camp, and both
- 8:27Speaker 2: were tip balls. I'm super confident in Jaden Craig. That
- 8:30Speaker 2: was the only thing that threw me off. I didn't
- 8:31Speaker 2: have a big expectation for Jaden Craig, and now after
- 8:34Speaker 2: watching him against what is a much-improved defense for North Carolina,
- 8:38Speaker 2: he still just didn't look the part at all.
- 8:41Speaker 1: He didn't, and I just thought Sonny Dykes passing up
- 8:44Speaker 1: on the three, and that type of game, it's raining.
- 8:46Speaker 1: That apparently is a bad track, whether it's raining or not,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but apparently when it rains, it's even worse, you would think,
- 8:52Speaker 1: over there. As much rain as they get to know
- 8:54Speaker 1: how to deal with it. But apparently it's a mess
- 8:56Speaker 1: when it starts raining. And of course it did. It's raining.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It's a low scoring game. You've got three right there.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And I know we're talking about college kickers. I get it.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But take the three, you know, take the three right
- 9:06Speaker 1: there and see what happens. You cut it to a
- 9:08Speaker 1: two point game with a quarter and a half to go.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I just did not understand that. TCU's got money.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And to go out and get a Harvard quarterback back
- 9:17Speaker 2: to one of the points you were making. Kind of
- 9:19Speaker 2: reminded me, you know, Xavier Lee has transferred from Florida,
- 9:21Speaker 2: but they go out, they get a Harvard point guard
- 9:24Speaker 2: to pick up where Walter Clayton Jr. left off.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That's a big transition, man. 175 passing yards, the fewest
- 9:31Speaker 1: for TCU since. Oh, gosh. Oh, it's real easy. What's
- 9:37Speaker 1: the only other TCU game you remember? Oh, since they
- 9:40Speaker 1: lost to Georgia. Since they got blown out of the
- 9:41Speaker 1: national championship. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I bet they take Max Duggan back, though.
- 9:46Speaker 1: They would take him back in a heartbeat. Or Josh Hoover.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's a massive downgraded quarterback. You can't get
- 9:51Speaker 1: around it. Did you guys see, like, Bob Petrino's fingerprints?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Could you see some of it? uh early almost early
- 9:57Speaker 1: drive so yeah in the first half a lot of
- 9:59Speaker 1: easy completion those drive starters that tight ends legit and
- 10:03Speaker 1: i thought he did a really good job that's why
- 10:05Speaker 1: north carolina if they didn't have such a tough schedule
- 10:08Speaker 1: like the defense defensive line looked good uh they got
- 10:11Speaker 1: a playmaker at tight end the quarterback's not too bad
- 10:14Speaker 1: from wisconsin and with petrino you know that offense is
- 10:17Speaker 1: going to get better yeah as the season goes. The
- 10:20Speaker 1: problem is the schedule is going to get only tougher. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I just noticed in that first drive, he's throwing to
- 10:24Speaker 1: a lot of very open receivers. And I'm like, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 1: there's Bob Petrino for you. Bob Petrino's giving him some
- 10:29Speaker 1: easy throws early. Now Belichick's going to adjust to that.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Belichick's good at what he does. He's going to take
- 10:33Speaker 1: away those easy throws. And when he did, North Carolina
- 10:36Speaker 1: had some trouble. Who did the best coaching job this weekend?
- 10:40Speaker 1: It's hard not to say Tony Elliott.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, or Charles Hoff.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it comes down to those two probably.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I mean, Stanford got a win, too. That was pretty
- 10:50Speaker 1: big for them. Yeah, but boy, Jim. That was disgusting.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I don't know if you're watching at the end. They
- 10:55Speaker 1: did slow a 23-7 lead and had to come back
- 10:57Speaker 1: and win it. Once Hawaii got momentum, they could not
- 11:01Speaker 1: stop Hawaii's offense. Until they did.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Until they did, right at the end. I mean, they
- 11:07Speaker 2: have to score two touchdowns in the final 141 to
- 11:10Speaker 2: get the cover. The one turnover for the entire game
- 11:13Speaker 2: ends up being a scoop and score for On a
- 11:15Speaker 2: drive that, you know, could have given Hawaii a walk-off win.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, to beat a Pritchard, though, in his first game,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean, good for him to get the win. Boy,
- 11:23Speaker 1: they look like maybe the worst team in the ACC.
- 11:25Speaker 2: They will not win more than three games.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I just don't see how Stanford's not the worst
- 11:29Speaker 1: team in the ACC.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And I don't understand, like, you understand the tribal patterns
- 11:34Speaker 2: on Hawaii? Stanford's got those, too. Do you guys have
- 11:37Speaker 2: any idea what's.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Up with that? I don't know if they were just
- 11:39Speaker 1: honoring Hawaii or what, but. It's on their stripe on
- 11:42Speaker 1: their helmet. It's almost like the same thing Hawaii was wearing. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know the history of why
- 11:51Speaker 1: that would be on there. Are we sure it's tribal
- 11:54Speaker 1: or is it not just a design, a pattern? It
- 11:57Speaker 1: may be, but there's just a version of hounds, too.
- 11:59Speaker 2: But when Tavita Pritchard got the job, he was almost
- 12:02Speaker 2: like a lay made of peppers.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like the one that Coach Ken would wear.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So I don't know. I don't know the whole story there.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I was confused by that as well, Lance, watching that game.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I still love hearing Andrew Luck talk. It's like Andre
- 12:21Speaker 2: the Giant's younger brother.
- 12:23Speaker 1: He's all in on that program, though. I mean, I
- 12:25Speaker 1: don't know if you all saw it, but when they
- 12:26Speaker 1: had that kid get injured, he's going on the field
- 12:28Speaker 1: helping him off the field. Like, Andrew Luck is all
- 12:31Speaker 1: in on that program, and that program feels like it's
- 12:33Speaker 1: going nowhere.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And that was the most, as bad as the Coliseum was,
- 12:37Speaker 2: the most embarrassing crowd was on the form. Yeah. Like
- 12:39Speaker 2: there was nobody there.
- 12:42Speaker 1: They spent all that money, by the way, on that
- 12:43Speaker 1: new stadium. I don't know how old it is now. Brooks,
- 12:47Speaker 1: can you check for me how old Stanford's on-campus stadium is?
- 12:51Speaker 1: It's about a decade old maybe now. Well, the remodel part.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I think it's still in the same place as the
- 12:55Speaker 1: old Stanford Stadium was. I think they just remodeled it.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They spent a lot of money on it. They did.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They had to play away from it for a year. Yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think it's the same exact location because you and
- 13:04Speaker 1: I were there when we were out there for Alabama
- 13:07Speaker 1: and Clemson. I think it's the same location the old
- 13:10Speaker 1: Stanford State, but they actually hosted a Super Bowl back
- 13:12Speaker 1: in the day. The Dolphins played in the Super Bowl there.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I think it's the same location. They just redid the
- 13:17Speaker 1: guts of it. But very few people ever got the
- 13:19Speaker 1: games there.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Bad.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I'm with Lance. I mean, you can take shots at
- 13:23Speaker 1: USC and they deserve it. Nobody goes to Stanford games.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I don't know how you get that excitement back either
- 13:28Speaker 1: when you're playing an ACC schedule. Do you give best
- 13:31Speaker 1: coaching job to who? I mean, I want to go
- 13:34Speaker 1: Tony Elliott. I think he deserves it. It's a blowout,
- 13:37Speaker 1: so it I mean, Charles Huff won a closer game
- 13:40Speaker 1: on the road. You probably have to go Charles Huff,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I think, in 1A, 1B.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I would go Huff just based on the fact
- 13:47Speaker 2: that I went worst coaching job Dave Duren. I didn't
- 13:49Speaker 2: want to combo it up. But I got no problem
- 13:51Speaker 2: with what Tony Elliott. I mean, that was masterful what
- 13:55Speaker 2: Virginia did. Now, will they be able to continue this
- 13:57Speaker 2: throughout the regular season, the ACC? We'll see. But for
- 14:01Speaker 2: Memphis to be able to go on the road, and
- 14:02Speaker 2: that's a game they had to have when you look
- 14:04Speaker 2: at that schedule.
- 14:05Speaker 3: New Stanford Stadium, 2006, 20 years old.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Is it in the same location? Do you know?
- 14:11Speaker 3: Exact same location. They began construction immediately following the 2005
- 14:15Speaker 3: loss to Notre Dame. Yeah.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So I don't know how much of the original stadium
- 14:19Speaker 1: is still there. I don't know if they just completely
- 14:21Speaker 1: tore it out or what.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it said it was a complete demo.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Okay. I knew it was in the same exact location.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I knew they didn't change the locations. Real estate out there,
- 14:28Speaker 1: as it turns out, is a bit expensive. You have
- 14:30Speaker 1: to rebuild things right there. I have a different feeling.
- 14:33Speaker 1: on Jackson Arnold than you guys do. I mean, there
- 14:37Speaker 1: were times I thought he looked better, but I remember
- 14:39Speaker 1: him running a lot against Baylor and helping Auburn beat
- 14:43Speaker 1: Baylor last year on the road. As the game went on,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and I'd love to hear the chat's thought on this, Brownie,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but as the game went on, I thought it started
- 14:52Speaker 1: to look a lot like Jackson Arnold when he was
- 14:55Speaker 1: at Auburn. Those sacks started to stack up on him,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and to me, sometimes that's on the quarterback. Sometimes the
- 15:01Speaker 1: quarterback has to see the blitz coming, change your blocking schemes,
- 15:06Speaker 1: or get rid of the football quickly, usually throwing wherever
- 15:09Speaker 1: the blitz is coming from, six sacks and him being
- 15:14Speaker 1: just nothing as the game wore on, that's sort of
- 15:17Speaker 1: the Jackson Arnold I saw at Auburn. and i i
- 15:20Speaker 1: did i thought he looked good early on but i
- 15:22Speaker 1: thought he looked good early on against baylor by the
- 15:24Speaker 1: end of the game i thought it was the same
- 15:26Speaker 1: jackson arnold i guess we were watching different games yeah.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Because i will tell you baylor last year was one
- 15:30Speaker 2: of the worst defenses jackson arnold went against memphis might
- 15:34Speaker 2: be the best defense he goes against the entire year
- 15:37Speaker 2: so you say he looked i thought they couldn't run
- 15:40Speaker 2: the football either so like I mean, maybe a sack
- 15:44Speaker 2: or two of the six were, you know, holding onto
- 15:47Speaker 2: the ball a little bit long. I just thought Memphis
- 15:49Speaker 2: up front was dominating.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I would like to know in Coach Film if
- 15:53Speaker 1: they determined he was holding them because Hugh Freeze, that
- 15:56Speaker 1: was kind of the dance he would always try to
- 15:58Speaker 1: dance is not overly kill Jackson Arnold, but also not
- 16:03Speaker 1: kill his offensive line because he started getting questions about
- 16:06Speaker 1: the sacks. Was Jackson holding the ball too long or
- 16:09Speaker 1: is it only offensive line? I've never played quarterback, but
- 16:12Speaker 1: I know enough that there are are certain things you
- 16:14Speaker 1: got to do to get rid of the ball quickly. Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And he does hold the ball too long. There's no doubt. And,
- 16:19Speaker 1: you know, sometimes it's to your benefit. He holds it.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It's not there. It's not there. Then he takes off
- 16:23Speaker 1: and he runs. He's got a lot of space. But
- 16:25Speaker 1: that looked a lot like the Baylor game last year,
- 16:29Speaker 1: except Auburn won the game and he didn't win the
- 16:31Speaker 1: game this past week. But as it went on and
- 16:33Speaker 1: him just being crushed under a pass rush, I thought, man,
- 16:37Speaker 1: Put him in orange and blue. Interlock that A &
- 16:39Speaker 1: U and I'm watching the same guys I saw last year. Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I thought he looked much better.
- 16:43Speaker 1: 137 rush yards last year against Baylor. 137 in game one.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Do you know how many yards he ended up with
- 16:49Speaker 1: on the season? 311. He had 137 in his first game.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Well, keep in mind, you know, those sacks. Oh, I know.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I'm looking at the numbers. I'm looking at the numbers.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I mean, but that was crazy. That one game against Baylor.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You're like, I mean, Hugh Freeze has finally found his
- 17:03Speaker 1: quarterback here. He's got a guy that can run. I
- 17:06Speaker 1: think Jackson Arnold, he'll be close to it.
- 17:08Speaker 2: If he stays healthy for a full 12, close to
- 17:10Speaker 2: 1,000 yards rushing.
- 17:12Speaker 1: It's going to be going up against different defenses now.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I mean, with UNLV. I mean, he ain't going to
- 17:16Speaker 2: be playing SEC defenses. I'm just looking at it right now. Hawaii,
- 17:19Speaker 2: that's a tricky game. At North Texas, they're completely rebuilding. Akron,
- 17:24Speaker 2: Cal will be tricky. North Dakota State, at Air Force,
- 17:27Speaker 2: Northern Illinois, Wyoming. New Mexico, San Jose State, and Nevada.
- 17:31Speaker 1: That's going to feel different than an SEC road schedule.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Let's do some of those road trips he's taken. But
- 17:36Speaker 1: in this game right here, I guess I'm on an island.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I thought he looked just like the same old Jackson.
- 17:40Speaker 1: He was very popular. About halfway through that game, people
- 17:44Speaker 1: were tweeting out, man, hey, Auburn didn't use this guy right.
- 17:49Speaker 1: They even said it in the broadcast. Auburn didn't use
- 17:50Speaker 1: this guy right. Well, they didn't.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And by the end of the game, I was like,
- 17:55Speaker 2: I mean, there's a big enough track record. Malik Willis,
- 18:00Speaker 2: Jared Stidham, Bo Nix, and now Jackson Arnold. I mean,
- 18:03Speaker 2: Auburn has just completely flushed talent at the quarterback position.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Those are all different coaches, though.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 18:10Speaker 1: That's what's crazy about it.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I mean, the one common denominator is the program.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I would say the one thing that looked like Jackson
- 18:17Speaker 1: Arnold the most to me was losing a one-possession game.
- 18:20Speaker 1: That's all he did at Auburn. It was one possession
- 18:23Speaker 1: loss after another.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I mean, the guy was a Gatorade National Player of
- 18:28Speaker 1: the Year, and they can get those wrong. I'm not
- 18:30Speaker 1: saying just because he was a five-star Gatorade National Player
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the Year that he ought to be the next
- 18:36Speaker 1: Dan Marino. But at some point, you've got to think
- 18:41Speaker 1: some of that's going to come out. I think it
- 18:43Speaker 1: will this year under Dan Mullen. It did not at Oklahoma.
- 18:46Speaker 1: It did not at Auburn.
- 18:47Speaker 2: But I think we saw two good teams. I think
- 18:48Speaker 2: those are two nine-win teams, UNLV and Memphis.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Oh, I don't disagree with that, yeah. We'll see if
- 18:57Speaker 1: one of them ends up being the group of six.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Boise State, Navy, maybe some other teams will have something
- 19:02Speaker 1: to say about that. Boise State and Memphis play week three. No,
- 19:05Speaker 1: they play week two. They play in two weeks. It'll
- 19:08Speaker 1: be the third game for Memphis. And I'm like Lance,
- 19:11Speaker 1: a big test for Charles Hoff will be how do
- 19:14Speaker 1: you manage this now? Everybody's singing your praises. You've got
- 19:17Speaker 1: Arkansas State coming in. It's a tricky matchup. It's a
- 19:20Speaker 1: trap game between UNLV and Boise. How does he handle that?
- 19:23Speaker 1: That'll be a big test.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I think North Dakota State's 11-1. I really do. I
- 19:26Speaker 2: think their one loss is at UNLV.
- 19:28Speaker 1: But who are they going to beat?
- 19:29Speaker 2: That's the thing. But again, if the other in front
- 19:34Speaker 2: of them is 9-3, I think it's going to be
- 19:36Speaker 2: a tough year for Group 6. Because I think the
- 19:38Speaker 2: really good teams have got really good schedules. They're tough schedules.
- 19:41Speaker 1: But that's when us as football minds, 10-2 Boise State
- 19:47Speaker 1: with their schedule.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Oh, it would be in front. But I'm talking about.
- 19:50Speaker 1: better than 11-1 North Dakota State.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm talking about 11-1 and 9-3, though. There is somewhat
- 19:54Speaker 2: of a difference there.
- 19:55Speaker 1: If you've got 9-3s and somehow North Dakota State cruises
- 19:59Speaker 1: through this thing at 12-0 or 11-1, even if they've
- 20:02Speaker 1: played nobody. But if you're 9-3 Memphis.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And you have beaten UNLV and Boise, but you've lost
- 20:10Speaker 1: to Navy and a couple other American games. What do
- 20:12Speaker 1: you do with them? Hell, you might not even be
- 20:13Speaker 1: your conference champion at that point, though. That's right.
- 20:16Speaker 2: That's right.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I mean, if you've got three conference losses, that's going
- 20:17Speaker 1: to be tough. You at least have to be conference champion.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Last thing before we put Memphis to bed here. They were,
- 20:26Speaker 1: or Charles Huff was one year at Marshall. Then he
- 20:30Speaker 1: went to Southern Miss one year. Now he's at Memphis twice.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Do you think he leaves after one year? Because right
- 20:37Speaker 1: now he's a hot candidate.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's– I mean, depending on how this
- 20:43Speaker 2: plays out, if they go 8-4, then maybe there's not
- 20:46Speaker 2: the offer that he wants. But if they go 9-3
- 20:49Speaker 2: or 10-2, I think more than likely, and I know
- 20:51Speaker 2: we continue to use this job, but if South Carolina
- 20:54Speaker 2: offered him, would he not take it? Again, I don't
- 20:57Speaker 2: know if there's any tie. I'm just going for an
- 20:58Speaker 2: obvious SEC. Yeah, it's not even– I mean, he would
- 21:01Speaker 2: jump at that opportunity.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean, the most likely guy to be fired
- 21:05Speaker 1: right now is Mike Norville at Florida State.
- 21:07Speaker 2: He would definitely take that job.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He'd take Florida State, yeah. I mean, but there again,
- 21:12Speaker 1: not that this should matter, but are Florida State fans
- 21:14Speaker 1: going to say, not another Memphis guy?
- 21:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't want the next Memphis guy. We just
- 21:18Speaker 1: had the Memphis guy, and we're firing him and paying
- 21:20Speaker 1: him $ 50 million to walk away. I don't want the
- 21:22Speaker 1: other Memphis guy. And I do wonder how much of
- 21:25Speaker 1: that hurts Charles Huff, even though he's shown it at
- 21:27Speaker 1: other places. These Memphis guys have not gone and set
- 21:30Speaker 1: the world on fire. You know, the guy I liked, Fuente,
- 21:34Speaker 1: goes to Virginia Tech. They have to fire him. Norvell
- 21:37Speaker 1: looked pretty good. He goes to Florida State. They're going
- 21:39Speaker 1: to have to fire him. Silverfield, unknown. I don't think
- 21:42Speaker 1: it's going to be a great year for him at Arkansas.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I mean, Huff, by the time it rolls around to
- 21:48Speaker 1: coach carousel season, how good are these Memphis guys going
- 21:52Speaker 1: to look? I mean, it starts to be that program where,
- 21:54Speaker 1: of course, anybody goes to Memphis.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I thought the Florida State game was closer than 34-17.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Oh, the halfback pass the kid dropped in the end zone.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Do you guys catch yourself pulling for New Mexico State
- 22:05Speaker 2: to win that game?
- 22:06Speaker 1: A little bit, yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 2: And it's really sad because the carnage, like, I think
- 22:10Speaker 2: they find the 45 or 50 million on Saturday, right?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Immediately yeah like arkansas did back with that coach they
- 22:17Speaker 1: fired jack crow jack crow after one game he lost
- 22:21Speaker 1: to the citadel like six to three or nine to
- 22:23Speaker 1: three or something like that that was probably a little
- 22:25Speaker 1: premature probably so florida state was a 31 and a
- 22:28Speaker 1: half point favorite they went by 17 i was thinking
- 22:31Speaker 1: it and i got two good friends that are florida
- 22:32Speaker 1: state fans and was texting both of them during the
- 22:35Speaker 1: game and they are done with him they're fed up
- 22:38Speaker 1: they want tony elliott I mean, both of them, both
- 22:42Speaker 1: of them. So that must be the popular name among
- 22:44Speaker 1: Florida State fans is go get Tony Elliott, which, you know,
- 22:47Speaker 1: I don't want to say to my Florida State friends,
- 22:49Speaker 1: but if you can win at Virginia, why go try
- 22:51Speaker 1: to resurrect Florida State? That's right. It's in the same league. Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:55Speaker 1: When we come back, Lance had this for us last week.
- 22:58Speaker 1: We saved it for today. Who won the breakup? Who
- 23:01Speaker 1: won the breakup? Lance will explain that to us coming
- 23:03Speaker 1: back on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 23:06Speaker 1: here on Sporting State. Listen, you know you're on the
- 23:09Speaker 1: wrong side of a public relation battle when other greats
- 23:13Speaker 1: at the school that you're battling go back to campus
- 23:17Speaker 1: and sort of shove it in your face. Talking about
- 23:20Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels and his number five battle with LSU. Over
- 23:25Speaker 1: the weekend, Leonard Fournette, LSU great, back on campus. He
- 23:29Speaker 1: helped hand out the number sevens this year, the jerseys
- 23:33Speaker 1: that will be worn by the best playmaker in offense
- 23:35Speaker 1: and defense. And while he was there, he gifted... a
- 23:38Speaker 1: gold chain with a number five on it to DJ Pickett,
- 23:44Speaker 1: the kid who was promised he'd get to wear a
- 23:46Speaker 1: number five. Lane Kiffin finally making right what Brian Kelly
- 23:50Speaker 1: didn't get right last year and putting the number five
- 23:53Speaker 1: jersey on him this year. And Fournette, one of the
- 23:55Speaker 1: LSU greats, brings a gold chain and gives him a
- 23:59Speaker 1: number five there on camera and out on socials over
- 24:01Speaker 1: the weekend.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You think Fournette and Jaden Daniels are tight?
- 24:04Speaker 1: No, I do not. I'd say no right now. Hey,

- 25:32Speaker 1: do who won the breakup, The worst coaching job probably
- 25:36Speaker 1: should have gone to the head coach at Villanova. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: think this was a Friday game.
- 25:40Speaker 2: It was, yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Villanova, seventh-ranked Villanova in the FCS, playing William & Mary.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Under a minute, William & Mary kicks a field goal
- 25:50Speaker 1: to cut it to seven. Then you botch the onside kick, touchdown,
- 25:56Speaker 1: extra point for Villanova to tie it up.
- 25:58Speaker 2: What kind of defense were they playing?
- 25:59Speaker 1: I don't know. One with holes in it. Then you
- 26:03Speaker 1: get the ball back, and instead of just catching your
- 26:05Speaker 1: breath and going to overtime, you overthrow an interception, and
- 26:10Speaker 1: then William & Mary walks it off with a field goal.
- 26:12Speaker 1: So they score 13-14. points in less than one minute
- 26:17Speaker 1: fastest i've ever seen.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Put it this way if i was a villanova fan
- 26:20Speaker 2: i wouldn't have seen the end of the game the
- 26:21Speaker 2: game was over it was yeah i would have walked out.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Which i'm sure a lot of people did out there
- 26:26Speaker 1: was traffic to a villanova traffic.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Just watching those villanova players how stunned they were to
- 26:31Speaker 2: have that kind of loss week one now this could
- 26:33Speaker 2: be a john summerall situation i'll never forget when we
- 26:36Speaker 2: had him on the first time we were talking about
- 26:38Speaker 2: They lost on that Hail Mary to Appalachian State, and
- 26:41Speaker 2: he said, if we wouldn't have lost that, I don't
- 26:42Speaker 2: know if we would have gone on this incredible run
- 26:44Speaker 2: because it really focused us. So maybe it works the
- 26:47Speaker 2: other way, but it just seems to me to lose
- 26:49Speaker 2: a game like that at home week one is going
- 26:52Speaker 2: to be devastating for the entire season.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's one you won't ever see again probably. 13
- 26:58Speaker 1: points in less than a minute to lose the game
- 27:01Speaker 1: is what Villanova, then number seven in the FCS rankings.
- 27:05Speaker 1: All right, who won the breakup?
- 27:06Speaker 2: And back.
- 27:08Speaker 1: On Friday, you were getting ready for a Bill Belichick weekend.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So sort of set this up for me and tell
- 27:13Speaker 1: me what you were thinking.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Well, you know, when we talk about Bill Belichick and
- 27:16Speaker 2: Tom Brady, it was always like one couldn't do it
- 27:18Speaker 2: without the other. You know, six Super Bowls together, and
- 27:21Speaker 2: then we get the breakup, and it did seem like
- 27:24Speaker 2: there was a feud internally between those two where Belichick
- 27:28Speaker 2: didn't like Tom Brady's trainer coming around, and they got sideways.
- 27:32Speaker 2: And one of the reasons he left and went to Tampa, well,
- 27:34Speaker 2: what happens when he leaves? New England goes down. Bill
- 27:38Speaker 2: Belichick ends up retiring from the NFL. Brady goes on
- 27:42Speaker 2: and wins another Super Bowl with Tampa Bay. Belichick takes
- 27:45Speaker 2: a job. Brady's making a fortune now doing, you know,
- 27:49Speaker 2: color for Fox. I thought he improved in year two
- 27:52Speaker 2: a lot.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And Belichick in year one was awful with Carolinas.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And then in the offseason, everything around him has been
- 27:59Speaker 1: a disaster. Yeah, it's not going to get any better
- 28:01Speaker 1: for Belichick, I don't think. This has been– this Saturday
- 28:05Speaker 1: was his high point.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Of the post-breakup. But after this, the schedule's going to
- 28:11Speaker 1: eat him up most likely, and he'll... Yeah, I went
- 28:13Speaker 1: back to it this morning. just not to make a
- 28:14Speaker 1: bowl game.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I've got them winning maybe five games, but they're not
- 28:18Speaker 2: going to go to a bowl game.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You got them at four until they beat TCU, probably. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah,
- 28:21Speaker 1: that just flipped it from four to five.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And I did have Carolina plus the point. I didn't
- 28:24Speaker 2: think they would win the game, but that was nice
- 28:27Speaker 2: that you really never had to, you know, sweat the
- 28:29Speaker 2: fact that I guess they were down seven at one point.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I played three things on Saturday, and the only
- 28:34Speaker 1: thing I got right was... The first window, I was like, man,
- 28:36Speaker 1: I'm on a roll. Here we go. Because NC State's
- 28:39Speaker 1: going to definitely win this next game. I played them
- 28:41Speaker 1: on a money line. They get blown out. You like
- 28:43Speaker 1: them from the offseason, NC State. You like them offseason.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Because of C.J.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Bailey.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I know. He was going to be a stud. You
- 28:48Speaker 1: remember that? And then I had USC team totals, which
- 28:51Speaker 1: I don't usually dabble in that. But at 49 and
- 28:53Speaker 1: a half, I was like, well, one thing, they're going
- 28:55Speaker 1: to roll up the score with Jada Maeva.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Nope.
- 29:00Speaker 1: They shut it down pretty quick. They were up 28-0
- 29:03Speaker 1: almost like that.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Not only that, but everybody. Not only Maiva came out,
- 29:09Speaker 2: and the fourth quarter was Jonas Williams playing the entire
- 29:12Speaker 2: fourth quarter.
- 29:13Speaker 1: My least favorite Jonas brother.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley went into cruise control mode, and it's almost
- 29:18Speaker 2: like they didn't want to cover that game the way
- 29:20Speaker 2: they played.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Who has won this breakup, speaking of them? Lincoln Riley
- 29:25Speaker 1: and Oklahoma. That's one I had written down, too. Right now, it's... Oklahoma.
- 29:30Speaker 1: They've been to a college football playoff. They have been
- 29:33Speaker 1: to a playoff, yeah. And I mean, people are questioning
- 29:36Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley. He's even on the hot seat. I don't
- 29:39Speaker 1: know that Venables... he's gotten two contract extensions, which blows
- 29:42Speaker 1: me away. But they have been to the college football playoff,
- 29:45Speaker 1: which is something Lincoln Riley has not been able to
- 29:46Speaker 1: do at a Venables school like USC.
- 29:48Speaker 2: We've talked about Alabama and how they're kind of set
- 29:50Speaker 2: up for next year. I think that's USC. USC has
- 29:54Speaker 2: so many true freshmen. I mean, 15 guys played this weekend.
- 29:58Speaker 1: But you won't have Maiava next year. But they'll have
- 30:01Speaker 1: a quarterback, though.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll have that Jonas Williams kid who's going to–
- 30:04Speaker 2: I mean, who knows? But, you know, he was a
- 30:06Speaker 2: five-star guy coming out.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Or they'll go get somebody in the portal. Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So I'm just saying, like– I don't have a big
- 30:12Speaker 2: expectation for USC this year. I do for Oklahoma, though.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But so far, Oklahoma's won that breakup, wouldn't you say? Oh,
- 30:18Speaker 1: it's close, though. I mean, they haven't really done a ton.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They haven't done anything that Lincoln didn't do at Oklahoma. No,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I would agree with you on that. They're less than
- 30:26Speaker 1: what they were when Lincoln was at Oklahoma. No, I
- 30:28Speaker 1: would agree with you on that.
- 30:29Speaker 2: But they have been to a college football playoff. You've
- 30:32Speaker 2: got to.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Judge him at USC, not what he did at Oklahoma.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley thinks he's got a Heisman Trophy winner in
- 30:37Speaker 2: Hadn't even been to a college football playoff.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's right. He's had a Heisman Trophy winner.
- 30:42Speaker 1: They're projected to be a playoff team this year. We'll
- 30:44Speaker 1: see if they live up to that. Oklahoma made the
- 30:47Speaker 1: playoffs after a losing record, right? They were a losing
- 30:52Speaker 1: record the year before? I think that's right.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yeah, or six and six.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Six and seven.
- 30:56Speaker 3: They've alternated.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Ten win in six and seven seasons since Venables has
- 31:02Speaker 3: been there.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Up and down, up and down, and he makes the
- 31:04Speaker 1: playoff last year and blows a 17-0 home lead against Alabama.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Look, it hasn't been great. I'm just saying it's been
- 31:11Speaker 2: a little bit better.
- 31:12Speaker 1: It's close, but I'll go Oklahoma, but that's close.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Interesting to see how you guys would go on Angelina
- 31:17Speaker 2: Jolie and Brad Pitt.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I've got to go Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt still does
- 31:21Speaker 1: a lot of meaningful work. What did Angelina Jolie do?
- 31:24Speaker 1: She's more into the behind-the-scenes producing and directing.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, she still does some stuff. I don't
- 31:28Speaker 2: think she's done a commercial hit since 2016 Kung Fu
- 31:30Speaker 2: Panda 3. But do you look at Brad Pitt F1
- 31:34Speaker 2: last year? This year, heart of the beast. I cannot
- 31:38Speaker 2: wait to see this. The dog better not die, though.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Do you guys see the previews over the weekend?
- 31:42Speaker 1: I have not, no.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Ex-Special Forces, him and his dog are stuck in the wilderness.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what they're doing out there. Also,
- 31:48Speaker 2: the future or the further misadventures of Cliff Booth coming
- 31:51Speaker 2: out Christmas. Can't wait to see that. But Brad Pitt
- 31:54Speaker 2: is definitely... Outside of the kids... Dropping his name, that
- 31:58Speaker 2: is kind of a slap in the face.
- 32:00Speaker 1: It's tough when they drop the old man's name.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I think Brad Pitt dominated the divorce there.
- 32:04Speaker 1: But has she produced or directed anything of meaning since
- 32:08Speaker 1: that breakup? Because that's what she does mostly now, right?
- 32:10Speaker 2: She's a filmmaker. She's post-50, and post-50 in Hollywood for
- 32:14Speaker 2: women is typically cruel. So, yeah, I think it's more
- 32:17Speaker 2: on the other side of the camera, but I don't
- 32:19Speaker 2: know exactly what she's doing. They're fighting over a winery
- 32:22Speaker 2: they've got in France. They've been divorced for a couple
- 32:25Speaker 2: of years.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Wow. Still not many production credits for Jolie.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Less than you would think.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Seen maybe four or five projects since 2020.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Any of them big names?
- 32:37Speaker 2: No. Okay.
- 32:38Speaker 1: So Brad Pitt's an easy win. This is to be determined.
- 32:42Speaker 1: LSU and Brian Kelly. I think I know where it's
- 32:44Speaker 1: going to be. Are you reading my list? I don't
- 32:45Speaker 1: have that good of an eyesight. Not a great Brian
- 32:48Speaker 1: Kelly debut in the booth, I don't think. He was awful. Yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I mean, did you have volume up on that game
- 32:51Speaker 1: a lot? Yeah. I did, too, since my game colleagues
- 32:55Speaker 1: were there.
- 32:56Speaker 2: It was so weird seeing him at North Dakota.
- 32:59Speaker 1: He was bad, too. And I don't know who the
- 33:01Speaker 1: rest of the crew was. I don't know. We know
- 33:03Speaker 1: Adam Brennan, the other guy in the booth there. I
- 33:07Speaker 1: didn't hear their name. So is that who that was?
- 33:08Speaker 1: He's the CBS, does those interviews that we all like.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Who was the other analyst? Oh, that was him, Adam Brennan. Okay,
- 33:15Speaker 1: that was that guy. The play-by-play guy I didn't really love. Yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I didn't, you know. I was frustrated with Jack State's play,
- 33:21Speaker 1: but Brian Kelly was no good.
- 33:23Speaker 2: As bad as Brian Kelly was, I don't think he's
- 33:25Speaker 2: as bad in the booth as Lane Kiffin is in commercials.
- 33:28Speaker 1: In the Dr.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Pepper commercial. Oh, my gosh. So uncomfortable.
- 33:32Speaker 1: That wasn't great acting.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I saw our buddy Chad Witherell from Sporting State sent out–
- 33:38Speaker 2: it gave him vibes of Fred McGriff on the Tom Amansky.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I'm Fred McGriff.
- 33:43Speaker 2: And remember his hat was like this?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it was on the top of his head.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:48Speaker 1: But Brian Kelly's breakup with Notre Dame, Notre Dame won
- 33:51Speaker 1: that breakup.
- 33:51Speaker 2: So far.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Don't you think?
- 33:53Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 33:53Speaker 1: No, but they've been better without him. Freeman got him
- 33:56Speaker 1: to a national championship game like Brian did. Brian did,
- 34:00Speaker 1: but I think that program's better without him.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but the breakup with LSU and Kelly is— Well,
- 34:06Speaker 2: to be seen, but I'm going to bet LSU on
- 34:07Speaker 2: that one. But if they're 8-4 this year, which would
- 34:10Speaker 2: not be surprising at all, people are going to be like, damn.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but if people go watch Brian Kelly games, which
- 34:14Speaker 1: if he's going to be on CBS Sports Network, you're
- 34:16Speaker 1: not going to see many games. But if you watch
- 34:19Speaker 1: Brian Kelly games, he's not going to look great as
- 34:21Speaker 1: an analyst this year. Who would you see? Were you
- 34:23Speaker 1: watching what he was talking about? The game ops person
- 34:25Speaker 1: that screwed that they screwed the clock up. Yeah. The clock,
- 34:28Speaker 1: it was late in the half and the clock kept
- 34:29Speaker 1: running and the, uh, the, uh, Boise, sorry, the, uh,
- 34:32Speaker 1: excuse me, North Dakota state coach was going nuts. And
- 34:35Speaker 1: he was even looking up at the press box. Like,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, what are we doing? Why is the clock?
- 34:39Speaker 1: And Brian Kelly's like, that would have been a game
- 34:42Speaker 1: ops meeting for me. First thing Monday morning. And the
- 34:45Speaker 1: guy was like, uh, what would you tell your game
- 34:47Speaker 1: ops people? Uh, Brian Kelly paused until he was calculating.
- 34:51Speaker 1: He goes, I would tell them they did a poor job.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean, they've got dry run-throughs. They don't realize how
- 34:56Speaker 2: bad he's going to be.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I don't know. He was not good, though. Who wanted
- 35:00Speaker 1: to break up Jimbo Fisher from Florida State when Jimbo
- 35:04Speaker 1: left and went to Texas A & M? How do
- 35:07Speaker 1: you grade that one? Hard to believe Norvell at 1.1.
- 35:12Speaker 1: How many straight games? Was it 18 straight games? And
- 35:14Speaker 1: he had them in the college football playoff. If his
- 35:17Speaker 1: quarterback does not get hurt.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, if Jordan Travis doesn't go down.
- 35:19Speaker 1: In a throwaway game.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and Alabama's out, they're in. Yep.
- 35:24Speaker 1: That's a good question.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It's tough because Jimbo gets all this money, goes to
- 35:28Speaker 2: A & M, and they do nothing. It's almost like
- 35:31Speaker 2: Florida State. Right now, Jimbo has won the breakup because
- 35:34Speaker 2: of the money and the fact that he's just sitting
- 35:36Speaker 2: there talking about football and counting cash.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:39Speaker 2: I think if Florida State can– identify who their next
- 35:42Speaker 2: great coach is and maybe ultimately they say that but
- 35:44Speaker 2: right now it's Jimbo the.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Irony is Jimbo has exactly what Florida State needs right
- 35:49Speaker 1: now stacks of cash that's the irony so I guess
- 35:52Speaker 1: I would say Jimbo is.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Well you know it's funny you bring up Tony Elliott
- 35:55Speaker 2: when you know our buddy Wes McLooney New Balance former
- 35:59Speaker 2: Virginia player told me a couple of years ago when
- 36:01Speaker 2: NIL busted out he's like our endowment is crazy oh
- 36:04Speaker 2: yeah we ever get behind it So Florida State needs money.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Virginia's got money. After 11 wins last year and after
- 36:09Speaker 2: this Saturday, they're probably going to be pushing more money
- 36:13Speaker 2: on the table.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Usually those endowments aren't touched for athletics, though. That's just straight.
- 36:17Speaker 1: They're not.
- 36:18Speaker 2: But I think it's a reflection of how much money
- 36:20Speaker 2: can be behind the program.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a reflection of people connected to your school
- 36:23Speaker 1: that have money and if they're willing to spend it
- 36:26Speaker 1: on athletics. And I don't know if they are in Virginia.
- 36:28Speaker 1: And that'll probably determine if Tony Elliott continues to win here,
- 36:31Speaker 1: if he's there long or not. Basketball's been... Pretty consistently
- 36:34Speaker 1: good over the years. They have been. I mean, I
- 36:37Speaker 1: think of Virginia Moore as a basketball school, obviously. I
- 36:39Speaker 1: was blown away. Lance brought it up earlier. I had
- 36:41Speaker 1: heard 2008. He said 2006, whatever number it is, that
- 36:44Speaker 1: they had not sold that joint out since then. That
- 36:46Speaker 1: blows me away. That's not that big a stadium. 60,000 maybe? Maybe.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I mean, that is a small stadium. And they had
- 36:53Speaker 1: not sold it out for almost a decade or two decades.
- 36:56Speaker 2: 20 years.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's crazy to me. Who won the breakup
- 37:04Speaker 1: between Nico Amelieva and Tennessee so far? We finally get
- 37:10Speaker 1: to see Nico back in action. They're a one and
- 37:12Speaker 1: a half point favorite on the road at California. Late
- 37:15Speaker 1: night window, 1030 Eastern, 930 Central ESPN this week.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I mean, UCLA was better last year. Tennessee was worse.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I think we will decide that this year.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a bit like The one we just said
- 37:32Speaker 1: was undetermined with Florida State and Jimbo. I think this
- 37:36Speaker 1: one is still undetermined. I mean, again, I was talking
- 37:41Speaker 1: to a Tennessee fan at lunch yesterday, and he's like,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if I should be excited
- 37:46Speaker 1: or not. He goes, the prospect of a true freshman
- 37:49Speaker 1: starting scares me, but it also excites me. He's like,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I mean, maybe this guy is incredible, and we've never
- 37:56Speaker 1: seen him play college football. We don't know. His point was,
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'd almost rather have a true freshman starting than the
- 38:02Speaker 1: kid that's come back that has been average you know
- 38:05Speaker 1: Aguilar was probably better than average but I mean my
- 38:08Speaker 1: point that the Tennessee fan was Josh Heupel generally gets
- 38:13Speaker 1: good play out of his quarterbacks Nika was probably the
- 38:16Speaker 1: exception to that yeah the one breakup everyone will be
- 38:19Speaker 1: watching this year is Lane Kiffin to LSU Pete Golding
- 38:24Speaker 1: yep at Ole Miss and And that's when it'll play
- 38:26Speaker 1: out in real time. Yeah, we'll see that break up
- 38:28Speaker 1: in week three. We'll know who won it.
- 38:30Speaker 2: DirecTV and Sunday Ticket? Who's won that break up? Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 2: I mean, it's got to be Sunday Ticket. I didn't
- 38:35Speaker 2: realize how much they had gone up on the pricing.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It's a lot. I'm never going to bitch about it,
- 38:39Speaker 1: but I think it's like 400-something bucks now. Yeah, my
- 38:40Speaker 1: car got dinged the other day for mine, and I
- 38:42Speaker 1: was like, Yeah. Man, I do pay a lot for this.
- 38:46Speaker 1: To watch the worst team in the NFL, by the way,
- 38:48Speaker 1: is what I am now doing.
- 38:49Speaker 2: It seemed like every sports fan I knew had DirecTV
- 38:53Speaker 2: back in the day, and it seems like everybody's got
- 38:55Speaker 2: YouTube TV now. So I think DirecTV has lost this breakup.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I saw a great meme involving the Dolphins over
- 39:03Speaker 1: the weekend. I won't say it here on the air because...
- 39:08Speaker 1: because of the kids, it can impact kids. But I
- 39:11Speaker 1: will tell you in the commercial break, it made me
- 39:13Speaker 1: laugh out loud. Did you see my tweet last night
- 39:15Speaker 1: about the yardages? No. And this is by my math
- 39:19Speaker 1: after the cutdowns. I waited until the cutdowns just to
- 39:21Speaker 1: see who the Dolphins kept at receiver. I knew it
- 39:23Speaker 1: was going to be the quarterback. By my math, Miami
- 39:27Speaker 1: will start the year with two quarterbacks who've combined to
- 39:31Speaker 1: throw for 1,300 NFL yards and six touchdowns and six
- 39:35Speaker 1: receivers who have combined to catch 1,600 yards of passes
- 39:38Speaker 1: and 13 touchdowns. It's probably the worst passing attack we've
- 39:42Speaker 1: seen in modern-day NFL football. I can't think of one
- 39:45Speaker 1: that would be that bad.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Well, the thing about Dunaway's backup now is an undrafted
- 39:48Speaker 2: rookie in Jalen Daniels from Kansas. I kind of made
- 39:51Speaker 2: the joke two weeks ago that he'll end up starting
- 39:52Speaker 2: a game. He probably will.
- 39:53Speaker 1: You've at least got Baker Mayfield. But it was Teddy Bridgewater.
- 39:57Speaker 1: How do you let Teddy go? You know what I'm saying?
- 39:59Speaker 1: He's at least a serviceable backup, I always thought.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I guess maybe it could have been... Just potential and, yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 2: I mean, what they were paying. I mean, Teddy was
- 40:08Speaker 2: probably making $ 10 million. Jalen Daniels is making a lot less.
- 40:13Speaker 2: I mean, he could go back to Kansas right now
- 40:15Speaker 2: and make more than he's going to make this year
- 40:16Speaker 2: as the number two for Tampa.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Cut day was fun. NFL on a hiatus until, remember,
- 40:22Speaker 1: next Wednesday night is when the NFL season starts, a
- 40:25Speaker 1: week from Wednesday. We get into full week one of
- 40:28Speaker 1: college football on Thursday night. some interesting games, including UAB
- 40:33Speaker 1: in Illinois, where Illinois is a hefty four-touchdown favorite in
- 40:37Speaker 1: that one, and a couple other games of interest on
- 40:40Speaker 1: Thursday and Friday night. But week zero in the book,
- 40:43Speaker 1: we've got some final thoughts coming on the other side.
- 40:45Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 40:47Speaker 1: on Sporting State. Back with your final segment today on
- 40:50Speaker 1: the next round, presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sport
- 40:53Speaker 1: and State, also by our friends at Clay Travis Law.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Accidents do not wait for a good time. One bad moment, wreck, fall,
- 41:01Speaker 2: doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly you're fighting an
- 41:04Speaker 2: insurance company that does this every single day. That's why
- 41:06Speaker 2: Clay started Clay Travis Law, built a firm around one idea.
- 41:11Speaker 2: People deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions,
- 41:14Speaker 2: and push back when things don't add up. Experienced trial attorneys...
- 41:18Speaker 2: who bring the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville,
- 41:22Speaker 2: trusted across the country. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination,
- 41:26Speaker 2: and some Southern grit. Car truck wrecks, ride-share accidents, medical malpractice,
- 41:32Speaker 2: premises liability, product liability. If you're wrong, they want to
- 41:35Speaker 2: hear about it. Here's what they promise. Honesty. They don't
- 41:38Speaker 2: sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth, not
- 41:42Speaker 2: what you want to hear. The case evaluation is free.
- 41:44Speaker 2: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Go to claytravislaw.com or call 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com. No case
- 41:55Speaker 2: is too big or too small.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Okay, Brownie, I want to get back to Jackson Arnold
- 41:59Speaker 1: for a second. Okay. This is from CBS Sports. 131
- 42:04Speaker 1: FBS quarterbacks with at least 12 starts since the beginning
- 42:07Speaker 1: of the 2024 season. Arnold has the second highest sack rate.
- 42:12Speaker 1: At 12.3%. So he is getting sacked more than anybody
- 42:17Speaker 1: else in the country. In the second half, he was
- 42:20Speaker 1: 8 of 16, 95 yards of offense in the second half.
- 42:24Speaker 2: I go back. His first year as a starter at Oklahoma,
- 42:27Speaker 2: one of the worst offensive lines in the history of
- 42:29Speaker 2: the SEC. Did not have a good offensive line last year.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Do they have one this year? I don't know.
- 42:35Speaker 2: I don't know. I thought Memphis did a really good
- 42:37Speaker 2: job at stopping the run. Again, Jaden Thomas is one
- 42:42Speaker 2: of the best running backs in the nation. And, you know,
- 42:45Speaker 2: he goes for 44 yards, less than four yards a carry. And,
- 42:48Speaker 2: you know, maybe Jackson Arnold cost him a couple of sacks,
- 42:50Speaker 2: but I thought he was really good.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that Oklahoma offensive line that was so bad in 2024,
- 42:55Speaker 1: Jackson Arnold was a, what did they do in 2025?
- 42:58Speaker 2: Yeah, well, look, they still weren't a great offensive line.
- 43:02Speaker 2: They got to a college football playoff, but they still
- 43:03Speaker 2: couldn't run it.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Couldn't run it to save their life. They ran it
- 43:05Speaker 1: as bad as Alabama did, basically. Yeah, but they did
- 43:08Speaker 1: get to the playoffs. They did get to the playoffs,
- 43:10Speaker 1: which is pretty remarkable.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Jackson Arnold will end up being one of the best
- 43:14Speaker 2: group six quarterbacks this year.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I think he's going to put up big numbers because
- 43:17Speaker 1: I think Dan Mullen can coach. As Pac Jam 2 says,
- 43:20Speaker 1: Dan Mullen is a better QB coach than Hugh Freeze.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Nobody's going to argue that one, right? Oh, no. I
- 43:25Speaker 1: was thinking the same thing for the first half. Yeah.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Then the second half, I was like, oh, I've seen
- 43:29Speaker 1: this before.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Wait, wait. Is this... Is this game at Jordan-Hare Stadium? No,
- 43:33Speaker 1: it's not because they're doing the wave when the offense
- 43:35Speaker 1: is on the field. AWKAU says, also everyone forgets he
- 43:40Speaker 1: played and was benched at Oklahoma. This is before you
- 43:42Speaker 1: just said that. Jackson Arnold has proven at two destinations
- 43:46Speaker 1: he cannot QB. I agree with that. Again, I think
- 43:49Speaker 1: he's going to be against lesser defenses playing at this level.
- 43:54Speaker 1: And he's going to be playing for a better quarterback
- 43:56Speaker 1: coach in Dan Mullen. I think you're going to see
- 43:58Speaker 1: a better Jackson Arnold this year. Chad wants to know,
- 44:02Speaker 1: or Chris, I'm sorry, wants to know what you had
- 44:03Speaker 1: against Stidham. He doesn't disagree with you, but he's like,
- 44:07Speaker 1: I thought Stidham was okay at Auburn.
- 44:08Speaker 2: No, Stidham was the best we've seen since.
- 44:11Speaker 1: He's Auburn's last one, last 3,000-yard passer is Jarrett Stidham.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Is that right, Brooks?
- 44:19Speaker 1: Probably, if I had to guess.
- 44:20Speaker 3: They've only ever had two, yes, him and Damian Craig.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, look, he was good. I'm just saying that he's
- 44:25Speaker 2: still in the NFL and, you know, He's one play
- 44:28Speaker 2: away from starting like he did last year in the
- 44:30Speaker 2: AFC Championship game.
- 44:32Speaker 1: From the chat, every quarterback in the SEC is under
- 44:34Speaker 1: tremendous pressure to win every week. There's none at UNLV.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I would agree with that. We will not be talking
- 44:41Speaker 1: about Jackson Arnold after this week except to tell how
- 44:43Speaker 1: bad he is. There are a lot of people that
- 44:45Speaker 1: are with you on this one. I guess Lance and I,
- 44:48Speaker 1: I was... I was really impressed.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I thought he played well.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I mean, I was happy to see him play in
- 44:53Speaker 1: that first half. I don't disagree that it was worse
- 44:55Speaker 1: in the second half. You can't ignore six sacks. there
- 44:58Speaker 1: was obviously that was part of his issue at Auburn
- 45:01Speaker 1: as he held the ball too long I would just
- 45:03Speaker 1: be curious to know and we may never know this
- 45:05Speaker 1: because I'm not going to pay attention to Dan Mullen
- 45:07Speaker 1: press conferences but if Dan Mullen came out on his
- 45:10Speaker 1: Monday press conference today so you know going back and
- 45:12Speaker 1: look at the film we've got with Jackson you know
- 45:14Speaker 1: four of those sacks we felt like he held the
- 45:16Speaker 1: ball too long there were there were passes he could
- 45:18Speaker 1: have made or he's got to throw it away you
- 45:20Speaker 1: know if Dan Mullen comes out and says that maybe
- 45:22Speaker 1: so but Someone that's got to be on the offensive line, too.
- 45:25Speaker 1: What if he comes out and says, Alex Orch, he's
- 45:26Speaker 1: the starting quarterback? Well, how much of the... I mean,
- 45:29Speaker 1: it got pretty bad in the second half. How much
- 45:31Speaker 1: Alex Orch did you see?
- 45:32Speaker 2: Zero. I mean, we saw one carry.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I mean, that guy, you want to talk about a
- 45:37Speaker 1: guy that can't throw. I was watching... What was I watching? Oh,
- 45:40Speaker 1: it was that pregame show ESPN did. It was McElroy, Booger...
- 45:47Speaker 1: Jesse Palmer. Jesse Palmer and... The ESPN agent. Kevin Negande
- 45:52Speaker 1: was hosting it, okay? and they're breaking down all the games,
- 45:55Speaker 1: and they're talking about UNLV and Jackson Arnold finding a
- 45:57Speaker 1: new home, and one of the analysts, I don't know which,
- 45:59Speaker 1: I don't think it was Greg, said, don't forget Alex
- 46:01Speaker 1: Orji is the backup, and he's shown he can be fantastic.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I'm like, in what regard?
- 46:07Speaker 1: When did he show that? Top speed, pads off. When
- 46:10Speaker 1: did he show he could be fantastic? That guy's one
- 46:12Speaker 1: of the worst college quarterbacks I've ever seen. He's not
- 46:14Speaker 1: a bad runner. No, he's an excellent runner, but a
- 46:16Speaker 1: quarterback's got to do more than that. Yeah. Michigan refused
- 46:19Speaker 1: to let him throw the football. They knew he couldn't
- 46:21Speaker 1: throw it. And again, to your point, when they got
- 46:24Speaker 1: struggling the other night, Saturday night, it didn't appear that
- 46:28Speaker 1: Mullen thought twice about bringing Orgy in. I mean, that
- 46:31Speaker 1: was going to be all Jackson Arnold's game to play.
- 46:33Speaker 1: All right, one thing we talked about last week, and
- 46:36Speaker 1: I was surprised at how many people had a hard
- 46:39Speaker 1: reaction feeling about the ticker going away on ESPN broadcast. Now,
- 46:45Speaker 1: you got to see it over the weekend. no ticker
- 46:48Speaker 1: at the bottom continuously, and then occasionally in the upper
- 46:51Speaker 1: right-hand corner, a little box will appear with an ESPN update,
- 46:55Speaker 1: and it will update certain scores up in the corner.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Your thoughts on no ticker, which is more screen for
- 47:03Speaker 1: you to see the actual action, and then the occasional
- 47:06Speaker 1: bug that comes in upper right-hand with score updates. Did
- 47:09Speaker 1: you notice it, like it?
- 47:11Speaker 2: You know, I didn't really notice.
- 47:13Speaker 1: It ended up not being that big a deal. It
- 47:14Speaker 1: was the first thing I noticed, actually. when the TCU
- 47:19Speaker 1: North Carolina game started is how much cleaner the screen
- 47:22Speaker 1: was without the ticker at the bottom.
- 47:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I mean, it's a full screen of football. Nothing is
- 47:27Speaker 1: squeezed back. It looks so much cleaner, so much better.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I'd love to know what the chat thought about the
- 47:32Speaker 1: no ticker. Well, somebody was pissed it went away earlier
- 47:34Speaker 1: in the chat. Yeah, I would tell you this. What
- 47:36Speaker 1: I don't need, what's it called? Aerolinga? Is that what
- 47:40Speaker 1: it is? Yeah. They have the sponsor bar down there,
- 47:42Speaker 1: but occasionally in between plays when there's a break in
- 47:45Speaker 1: the action, but they don't go to commercial break, They
- 47:48Speaker 1: would put up the four names of the people on
- 47:50Speaker 1: the broadcast, and whoever was talking, it would highlight. And
- 47:54Speaker 1: then when somebody else would start to— I saw people
- 47:56Speaker 1: praising this.— would go away. No, I mean— It's.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Like a Zoom call.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, like I can figure it out. And by the way,
- 48:02Speaker 1: poor Dana, whatever her last name is, Dana Beasley or whatever,
- 48:06Speaker 1: they wouldn't turn her mic off. Like you could hear
- 48:08Speaker 1: her talking on the sidelines being like, hey, tell them
- 48:11Speaker 1: I got a little bit more on that. Wait till
- 48:13Speaker 1: after the play. Wait till after the play. And I
- 48:15Speaker 1: tweeted out, I was like, God bless her. I'd have
- 48:17Speaker 1: 16 violations, FCC violations now. I'd be like, get me
- 48:21Speaker 1: a bleepity bleep hot dog over here right now. I
- 48:23Speaker 1: need a snack. Yeah, I noticed that with her. I just,
- 48:26Speaker 1: when they were in that first drive, and I had
- 48:29Speaker 1: not even thought about it. It had not even occurred
- 48:30Speaker 1: to me that, oh, yeah, we've even talked about this
- 48:32Speaker 1: on the show, that the ticker's going away. But it
- 48:34Speaker 1: was the first thing I noticed, just how clean and
- 48:36Speaker 1: uncluttered the screen was. So Scott's showing the thing where
- 48:40Speaker 1: they tell you who's talking. I don't necessarily need that,
- 48:42Speaker 1: but that's taking up very little real estate. I'm not
- 48:45Speaker 1: going to worry about that. Yeah, I don't need that
- 48:47Speaker 1: at all.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Um, does Jordan sound a little like Greg McElroy to
- 48:50Speaker 2: you guys?
- 48:51Speaker 1: Maybe a little. Yeah. I don't know if y'all were
- 48:53Speaker 1: watching the pregame show, but he's in a pub because
- 48:56Speaker 1: that's what we do when we go to Ireland. We
- 48:58Speaker 1: got to do the stuff from the pub. Oh, they've
- 48:59Speaker 1: invented Guinness over the weekend.
- 49:02Speaker 2: By the way, we need to do away with the
- 49:03Speaker 2: Ireland game.
- 49:04Speaker 1: I don't disagree. A hundred percent. Yeah. If, if for anything,
- 49:07Speaker 1: just the facility. Yeah. Yeah. It looks like a bad track.
- 49:11Speaker 1: And did they announce who next year's game is? Have
- 49:13Speaker 1: they announced it yet?
- 49:14Speaker 3: I have not.
- 49:15Speaker 1: No, it was already announced.
- 49:17Speaker 2: The play is like the blue-gray game. You guys remember
- 49:19Speaker 2: that at the old Crampton Bowl?
- 49:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I do.
- 49:21Speaker 2: I mean, it was 10-7 every single Christmas.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Here's the question, Lance. I mean, it is historic now
- 49:28Speaker 1: that the team that loses over there comes back and
- 49:29Speaker 1: has a losing record. Back to Scott Frost and his
- 49:33Speaker 1: team in 2022, I think every team that's lost that
- 49:36Speaker 1: game They've come back to the mainland and had a
- 49:39Speaker 1: losing record. Is that going to happen with TCU?
- 49:41Speaker 2: Well, I've got them at 6-6. I went back through
- 49:43Speaker 2: schedule this morning. I think they're 6-6, so I'm not
- 49:46Speaker 2: going to go losing. But, you know, I thought before
- 49:48Speaker 2: that game they were probably an 8-win team. But just watching,
- 49:52Speaker 2: you know, I thought Jaden Craig would be better. Sonny
- 49:54Speaker 2: Dykes sold him as being really, really good. Maybe he
- 49:57Speaker 2: ends up, you know, progressing as the season goes through.
- 49:59Speaker 2: But I would say they're a 6-win team.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Tell me how you feel about their conference games at UCF.
- 50:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's– I'll give them a win. You see
- 50:05Speaker 1: it the way down.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Hitsburg, Wisconsin is the Aer Lingus classic next year.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Hit Wisconsin, huh?
- 50:10Speaker 3: Think about Wisconsinites and Irish people drinking together.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, probably going to be a new coach at Wisconsin.
- 50:16Speaker 1: BYU at home. They lose that game. At Baylor.
- 50:19Speaker 2: It's a coin flip.
- 50:21Speaker 1: West Virginia at home.
- 50:22Speaker 2: I'll give them a win there.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Kansas at home.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I'll give them a win.
- 50:24Speaker 1: At Arizona.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Tough game. That's a loss.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Kansas State at home.
- 50:27Speaker 2: That's a coin flip, but I would say a loss.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Utah home. Loss. At Texas Tech.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Loss.
- 50:34Speaker 1: That's how you're going to get to 6-6. I think
- 50:35Speaker 1: West Virginia is better than them.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Jim's on to something here, so I'm looking this up.
- 50:39Speaker 3: So they resumed this series or made it a permanent
- 50:42Speaker 3: series in 2022. The loser of this game the last
- 50:46Speaker 3: four years has had a losing season.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I mean, I could see TCU doing it. I was
- 50:50Speaker 1: not impressed with TCU.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Kansas State was really old. They wound up going 6-6,
- 50:54Speaker 3: but were very underwhelming.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Most famously was Florida State when they lost to Georgia Tech.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Correct.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Yeah. And cratered after that. And it actually was kind
- 51:02Speaker 1: of a launching pad for Georgia Tech a little bit.
- 51:06Speaker 1: That was the first time I think people saw, hey,
- 51:08Speaker 1: bring Keem. He may have this program headed in the
- 51:10Speaker 1: right direction. I just don't know if it'll springboard North
- 51:15Speaker 1: Carolina into anything, but it has been hard to come
- 51:18Speaker 1: back and get your feet under you. And to your point,
- 51:21Speaker 1: TCU doesn't play this week, right? They've got a bye
- 51:24Speaker 1: week to get healthy, get rested up.
- 51:27Speaker 2: I did.
- 51:27Speaker 1: I just are splitting the G. I don't know if
- 51:29Speaker 1: I like. Yeah, that was the thing. So Jordan's, you know, he's,
- 51:31Speaker 1: of course, pouring the Guinness. That's what you have to do.
- 51:35Speaker 1: And then they're trying to interview him about the game.
- 51:37Speaker 1: The two sports center anchors, Irish pub. He's just wearing
- 51:40Speaker 1: the one ear earpiece. You think he's going to be
- 51:41Speaker 1: able to hear their questions? I mean, it was just
- 51:43Speaker 1: a complete disaster. It was so much noise and nothing
- 51:48Speaker 1: else but noise.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I didn't get to see any of Game Day. Did
- 51:51Speaker 2: you guys watch any Game Day?
- 51:52Speaker 1: They didn't have a Game Day. The show I was
- 51:54Speaker 1: talking about.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Maybe that's why.
- 51:56Speaker 1: That's why you just saw none of it. Yeah, it
- 51:58Speaker 1: was McElroy, Booger, and why can I not remember? Oh,
- 52:01Speaker 1: Jesse Palmer. Um, that's twice. I forgot who was on
- 52:04Speaker 1: there and I watched a lot of it. McElroy Booker,
- 52:07Speaker 1: Jesse Palmer. You didn't miss a whole lot there. I'll
- 52:08Speaker 1: go and take, you know what they did on that show.
- 52:10Speaker 1: They talked about the games and then they're like, all right,
- 52:12Speaker 1: let's go get all the topics. Everybody's talked about all
- 52:15Speaker 1: summer and let's, let's talk about those for the first time.
- 52:18Speaker 1: What else is there to talk about? I know, but
- 52:20Speaker 1: they did a two hour show and I'm like, we're
- 52:21Speaker 1: rehashing everything that we've talked about all summer. Let's just
- 52:25Speaker 1: bring it to the, uh, let's bring it to the
- 52:27Speaker 1: ESPN show. Do you know what, uh, everybody's doing today?
- 52:30Speaker 1: They're reacting, overreacting to week zero. they are virginia is
- 52:34Speaker 1: going to be here's probably gonna be your two biggest
- 52:36Speaker 1: overreactions virginia being really good and florida state smu i
- 52:42Speaker 1: think everybody looks at now it's like how does smu
- 52:45Speaker 1: not go beat florida state by two touchdowns yeah with
- 52:47Speaker 1: that point spread yeah i think that's gonna be your
- 52:49Speaker 1: two biggest over you know how that'll work out generally
- 52:51Speaker 1: that means uh florida state wins that game outright i
- 52:54Speaker 1: hate that for rat but That's the feel I get
- 52:57Speaker 1: right now, even though I don't think Florida State's any good.
- 52:59Speaker 1: A lot of the SEC with news conferences today will
- 53:02Speaker 1: react to what some of the coaches are saying. Final
- 53:05Speaker 1: preparations for their rosters, all the quarterback jobs are done.
- 53:09Speaker 1: But in the SEC coming up, interesting starts for Missouri
- 53:13Speaker 1: with Arkansas, Pine Bluff, and Oklahoma with UTEP on Thursday
- 53:16Speaker 1: and Friday. And then we get to East Carolina, Alabama
- 53:20Speaker 1: on Saturday. Kent State, South Carolina, Youngstown State, Kentucky. I mean,
- 53:26Speaker 1: as bad as the Big Ten schedule, it's about the
- 53:28Speaker 1: same for the SEC. Tennessee State and Georgia, Texas State
- 53:31Speaker 1: and Texas, Furman and Tennessee. Baylor-Auburn's a good one, 230
- 53:36Speaker 1: on ABC Central Time. Auburn a touchdown favorite.
- 53:40Speaker 3: In that one.
- 53:40Speaker 1: We will hear from Alex Golish tomorrow on the show.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Should be a lot of fun. North Alabama and Arkansas,
- 53:46Speaker 1: Missouri State and Texas A & M, Austin P. Vandy,
- 53:50Speaker 1: Clemson and LSU. We'll hear from Dabo and Kiffin on
- 53:52Speaker 1: the show tomorrow. Louisiana Monroe, Mississippi State, Florida Atlantic, Florida, Louisville,
- 53:58Speaker 1: and Ole Miss on Sunday night. So really three good
- 54:02Speaker 1: games out of 16 in the SEC. One top 25 matchup.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Three more good games than we had two weeks ago.
- 54:09Speaker 1: That's perspective. Time to call it quits when Lance is
- 54:15Speaker 1: the glass half full on a schedule that looks as
- 54:18Speaker 1: bad as this week one schedule. But it is better.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Then no weeks at all. That's a great point, Lance.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Don't forget, a new link will come up here in
- 54:26Speaker 1: just a moment if you have your alert set. Click
- 54:28Speaker 1: on that to watch the next two hours of the
- 54:30Speaker 1: next round. Clay and Buck is up next right here
- 54:33Speaker 1: on Sporting State presented by Hard Rock Bets.
