- 0:30Speaker 4: Good morning, everyone, Welcome to Breaking Points. We have some
- 0:33Speaker 4: breaking news actually to get to in just one moment,
- 0:36Speaker 4: and it's a heavy news cycle. I mean, Pambondi was
- 0:38Speaker 4: fired yesterday as well, so there's a lot for us
- 0:41Speaker 4: to get to. Let's start, though, just by welcoming Ryan
- 0:45Speaker 4: and Griffin. How you guys doing today?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Doing good?
- 0:50Speaker 5: I got a giant purge of the military underway, just
- 0:53Speaker 5: as there's a search and rescue operation going on in
- 0:56Speaker 5: southern Iran, So not great timing for that, but you know,
- 1:00Speaker 5: never great timing for a purge.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I guess I think we can say we're all flying high.
- 1:06Speaker 4: This is this is me. I mean, I'm just gonna
- 1:08Speaker 4: share this clip for everyone.
- 1:10Speaker 6: I'm just chilling in Cedar rapids.
- 1:13Speaker 4: This is my life right now. I'm not even in
- 1:16Speaker 4: I'm not even in Cedar rapids. I'm in cedar falls
- 1:19Speaker 4: outside of Cedar rapids. So that's that's where I'm coming
- 1:23Speaker 4: to everyone from today. And it is it's dreary, but
- 1:27Speaker 4: the news cycler is dreary, so fittingly dreary. Now, Ryan,
- 1:31Speaker 4: you were just mentioning before we went to air, which
- 1:34Speaker 4: as a reminder, the second half of the Friday Show
- 1:36Speaker 4: is paywall for premium subscribers. We have a lot of
- 1:38Speaker 4: new premium subscribers, a lot of new people joining us
- 1:41Speaker 4: on those premium subscriptions, and the second half of the
- 1:44Speaker 4: show is for premium subscribers. So you can head over
- 1:47Speaker 4: to Breaking Points dot com grab a premium subscription, help
- 1:50Speaker 4: us keep doing this independent journalism. That's the best way
- 1:53Speaker 4: to do it. If you can't, no problem, go ahead
- 1:55Speaker 4: like the video subscribe That helps us so much as well. Right,
- 2:00Speaker 4: and we were talking speaking of independent journalism just before
- 2:02Speaker 4: we went to air. Here you think Jeremy, Jeremy's Khelle
- 2:06Speaker 4: here colleague over at drop Site, might have been the
- 2:08Speaker 4: first to get some of the at least in the
- 2:11Speaker 4: Western press, get some of what's happening right now in Iran.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Yeah, so this morning, an Iranian official told Jeremy that
- 2:22Speaker 5: an F fifteen to E was shot down over southern
- 2:26Speaker 5: Iran and that there was a search and rescue operation
- 2:29Speaker 5: underway from the from the United States. Some of the
- 2:33Speaker 5: Iran you know, the state affiliated Farmst news agency had
- 2:36Speaker 5: already reported some of this. I think Jeremy might have
- 2:39Speaker 5: been the first to confirm it in the Western media
- 2:41Speaker 5: many hours later. The Israeli press has since has since
- 2:45Speaker 5: confirmed it. Clearly the Israelis were briefed on what's going
- 2:49Speaker 5: on here, and so are now you know, sharing sharing
- 2:53Speaker 5: details as well. I believe the American media outside of
- 2:57Speaker 5: drop Site is now finally uh starting to follow it.
- 3:01Speaker 5: This comes after, you know, within twenty four hours of
- 3:04Speaker 5: another kind of video that's surfaced of a plane that
- 3:08Speaker 5: looked to be getting shot down and headed towards the sea.
- 3:11Speaker 5: But there was then a lot of pushback around that one,
- 3:14Speaker 5: saying that no, the fighter actually fighter pilot actually evaded
- 3:17Speaker 5: it and was able to you know, make it back safely.
- 3:20Speaker 5: So we don't we still don't know much about that
- 3:22Speaker 5: there was enough, you know. It also raises questions about
- 3:25Speaker 5: you know, previous about previous claims that the US had
- 3:32Speaker 5: denied saying no, no, no, this this actually has not happened,
- 3:35Speaker 5: because this one clearly has happened. H F fifteen e's
- 3:39Speaker 5: have two pilots in them there, and so we know
- 3:44Speaker 5: for sure that there are rescue operations underway here. I
- 3:47Speaker 5: can share so on Orion telegram. Let me see if
- 3:50Speaker 5: I can get these going.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Starts videos reporting all circulated.
- 3:58Speaker 5: This is a revieweling jet flying at an extremely low altitude.
- 4:04Speaker 5: That and then there were there are also some footage
- 4:07Speaker 5: of patchy American Apache helicopters, and this is the refueling
- 4:14Speaker 5: jet as well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You're you're seeing, uh, let me see what else we
- 4:21Speaker 1: got here.
- 4:23Speaker 5: So okay, so these are the apparently, you know, my
- 4:27Speaker 5: understanding is that these are the kind of rare earth
- 4:31Speaker 5: stealth black Hawk helicopters that have been dispatched two you know,
- 4:36Speaker 5: for this search and rescue operation. Doing so in broad
- 4:41Speaker 5: daylight is extraordinarily dangerous. Of course, there's a lot of
- 4:44Speaker 5: I think intentional misinformation flying around at this point. There's
- 4:49Speaker 5: some reporting out of the Iranian media that the a
- 4:53Speaker 5: lot of people have probably seen by now the kind
- 4:55Speaker 5: of image of the pilot's chair that that is taken
- 4:59Speaker 5: in the southern the desert in southern Iran with a
- 5:03Speaker 5: parachute next to it. There's now Iranian reporting claiming that
- 5:07Speaker 5: that was posted to lore the US into a search
- 5:10Speaker 5: and rescue operation and that there and there are further
- 5:15Speaker 5: reports that the Iranians already have the pilots, though there's
- 5:18Speaker 5: the status of how they're doing is unknown, but that
- 5:23Speaker 5: also might be misinformation. Like you can't really believe anything
- 5:27Speaker 5: coming out of either the US, Israel, or Iran right now,
- 5:30Speaker 5: although we do know for sure that this jet was
- 5:34Speaker 5: shot down, like that part is all sides compartment.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there you have.
- 5:39Speaker 4: What's what's up on the screen is just within the
- 5:40Speaker 4: last half an hour. US officials have confirmed this to
- 5:43Speaker 4: the New York Times.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yep, right, so this is ahead of a potential ground operation.
- 5:51Speaker 5: This is not even part of the kind of boots
- 5:53Speaker 5: on the ground operation that Trump may or may not
- 5:57Speaker 5: be planning. But it certainly doesn't bode well for US actually,
- 6:00Speaker 5: given that hag Seth has repeatedly said that the US
- 6:04Speaker 5: has complete air superiority.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and this is exactly I mean, I don't mean
- 6:09Speaker 4: this in a papien sense, but this is exactly why
- 6:14Speaker 4: when you, even with the best of intentions, say we're
- 6:16Speaker 4: doing a two week bombing run. This is a limited
- 6:19Speaker 4: air strike campaign. This is a Middle Eastern version of
- 6:23Speaker 4: the Maduro Raid. As much as you can want that
- 6:27Speaker 4: to be the case, when events like this happen, it's
- 6:32Speaker 4: the escalation trap. Again, not in a papien sense, but
- 6:37Speaker 4: in the sense that this is how you end up
- 6:39Speaker 4: getting trapped in escalation against your intentions, which is that
- 6:43Speaker 4: now you have potentially on the ground search and rescue
- 6:46Speaker 4: mission which can potentially rep in even more lives. But
- 6:49Speaker 4: it's on the ground, and on top of that, you
- 6:52Speaker 4: now have the the what's the right word for this,
- 6:57Speaker 4: I don't want to say the pride, but I think
- 7:00Speaker 4: that's probably how Donald Trump and Pete Haigseth will see it.
- 7:02Speaker 4: The pride of the United States on the line where
- 7:05Speaker 4: a fighter jet has been shot down by enemies and
- 7:09Speaker 4: potentially more American death. So if we don't think this
- 7:14Speaker 4: is going to lead to escalation, that could draw us
- 7:17Speaker 4: into a ground campaign. I mean, this is exact I
- 7:20Speaker 4: was saying yesterday on Series six M. This is how
- 7:24Speaker 4: we don't know. Trump gives a speech and says two
- 7:27Speaker 4: to three more weeks of bombing, bombing, back to the
- 7:30Speaker 4: Stone Age. But exactly historically, the way that these things
- 7:34Speaker 4: can grow and grow and grow and fantasticize into conflicts
- 7:37Speaker 4: that are bigger than people expect is just by steps
- 7:41Speaker 4: like this on the ladder. This is exactly what people
- 7:45Speaker 4: were warning about.
- 7:47Speaker 5: And Trump himself is out with a new statement on
- 7:49Speaker 5: truth social that will do nothing to call him anybody's fears.
- 7:53Speaker 5: He says, with a little more time, we can easily
- 7:57Speaker 5: open the horror moves straight, take the oil and make
- 8:01Speaker 5: a fortune. It would be a gusher for the world.
- 8:07Speaker 5: But then question marks, Sorry, it would be a gusher
- 8:09Speaker 5: for the world. Question three question marks. Okay, I don't
- 8:14Speaker 5: I don't know why the question marks. So, by the
- 8:17Speaker 5: way he's posting this and the President Donald G. Trump,
- 8:22Speaker 5: he's posting this after he must have been briefed that
- 8:27Speaker 5: he'd lost that we'd lost an F fifteen e.
- 8:30Speaker 4: And it's in the New York Times. He's been briefed.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so this is.
- 8:35Speaker 5: He posted this at eight twenty this morning, since two hours. Yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 5: he'd been briefed on this. Uh yeah, when did when
- 8:43Speaker 5: did Jeremy post his? Yeah, Jeremy posted his at three.
- 8:47Speaker 1: O nine am.
- 8:49Speaker 5: So so Jeremy posts. So Jeremy posts at three o
- 8:52Speaker 5: nine am. Let me put this up here, and I
- 8:57Speaker 5: just think this is remarkab about who this guy is. So,
- 9:00Speaker 5: so here's so, here's Jeremy's proposed. At three am this
- 9:03Speaker 5: morning and from normal working hours, war plane hit by
- 9:08Speaker 5: Iran went down over southern Tehran Province. Officials said that
- 9:11Speaker 5: because of the nature of the strike, the pilot could
- 9:14Speaker 5: not evacuate before crashing. Intense fire the scene. No remains
- 9:16Speaker 5: have been found. Five hours later, Trump is tweeting about
- 9:22Speaker 5: how we're going to make a fortune. It's going to
- 9:24Speaker 5: be a gusher for the world. Like this is a
- 9:28Speaker 5: crazy person.
- 9:30Speaker 4: That's a really good point, Ryan, Like he's just been
- 9:34Speaker 4: briefed on two missing likely I mean, I don't know,
- 9:38Speaker 4: I shouldn't say likely, but potentially deceased service members in
- 9:42Speaker 4: a war that he decided to start.
- 9:43Speaker 5: And they clearly have some intel that they might be
- 9:46Speaker 5: alive because they've launched this massive search and rescue operation, right,
- 9:49Speaker 5: so amid that he tweets this is going to be
- 9:52Speaker 5: a gusher for the world.
- 9:55Speaker 1: The world question mark, Yeah, the world.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Well it was a question mark. I guess to be faz.
- 10:01Speaker 1: He just throwed out there. He's just asking questions. I
- 10:05Speaker 1: also wanted to flag. CNN reported last night from their
- 10:09Speaker 1: sources that over half of Iran's missiles launchers remain intact,
- 10:16Speaker 1: as well as a ton of one way attack drones.
- 10:20Speaker 4: So interesting bylines on the story, Griffin, I'm glad you
- 10:23Speaker 4: brought up souse. I have it right in front of
- 10:24Speaker 4: me and let me just share the screen. It's in
- 10:29Speaker 4: the Tasha bertrand Jim Shuddo story. And Ryan, you could
- 10:32Speaker 4: probably tell us more about Jim Shoodo because he covered
- 10:34Speaker 4: the Obama administration. But he was working at what it
- 10:37Speaker 4: was State, right, he was working at State during the
- 10:38Speaker 4: Obama administration.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Did he work for the state's abartman or covering, No,
- 10:45Speaker 1: he was.
- 10:45Speaker 4: He worked for the Obama administration. He was, he was
- 10:48Speaker 4: in the administration. But anyway, all that is to say
- 10:51Speaker 4: the sourcing is somewhat interesting. Natasha Bertrand I take everything
- 10:54Speaker 4: she says with a heating grain of salt, because I
- 10:56Speaker 4: assume that it's genuinely generally often coming from the CIA.
- 11:01Speaker 4: But the lead of the story is that doesn't mean
- 11:04Speaker 4: it's always wrong that's coming from the CIA, but it
- 11:06Speaker 4: does mean it's probably trying to manipulate you in one
- 11:08Speaker 4: direction or the other. Roughly half of Iran's missile launchers
- 11:11Speaker 4: are still intact, and thousands of one way attack drones
- 11:13Speaker 4: remain in Iran's arsenal, despite the daily pounding by US
- 11:17Speaker 4: and Israeli strikes against military targets over the past five weeks.
- 11:21Speaker 4: According to recent US Intel assessments, three sources familiar with
- 11:25Speaker 4: the Intel told CNN quote, they are still very much
- 11:28Speaker 4: poised to wreak absolute havoc throughout the entire region end quote.
- 11:33Speaker 4: One of the sources set of Iran. And finally, the
- 11:36Speaker 4: US Intel assessment total may include launchers that are currently inaccessible,
- 11:40Speaker 4: such as those buried underground by strikes but not destroyed.
- 11:43Speaker 4: What did you make of this one, Ryan.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think what we don't seem to
- 11:49Speaker 5: understand is that we are at war with a real
- 11:53Speaker 5: country like we are used to. We have spent the
- 11:57Speaker 5: last twenty years fighting insurgents and insurgent groups and the
- 12:03Speaker 5: Taliban around the world. What we have now confronted in
- 12:08Speaker 5: the case of Iran is a government that has spent
- 12:11Speaker 5: nearly fifty years kind of preparing for a defensive war.
- 12:15Speaker 5: It spent the first ten years of its existence in
- 12:19Speaker 5: actual war against Iraq, armed heavily by the US and Israel, ironically,
- 12:25Speaker 5: but it spent the time after that believing that it
- 12:28Speaker 5: was likely that at some point the US and Israel
- 12:31Speaker 5: collectively were going to attack them and try to overthrow
- 12:35Speaker 5: the regime. Iran is one of the most kind of
- 12:40Speaker 5: just geographically naturally fortified countries you could think of, just
- 12:45Speaker 5: surrounded by mountains, and so they've spent decades, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 5: building these kind of missile cities deep under that mountainous terrain,
- 12:58Speaker 5: such that they are trying to make it so that
- 13:01Speaker 5: even a tactical nuclear weapon wouldn't be able to hit them. Now,
- 13:04Speaker 5: there are a lot of videos that have been circulating
- 13:06Speaker 5: of kind of explore you know, explosions and then secondary explosions,
- 13:10Speaker 5: and particularly in Isfahan, and it's see it seems like
- 13:14Speaker 5: they're hitting a lot of AMMO storage and a lot
- 13:17Speaker 5: of ammo dump That kind of ammo is what the
- 13:21Speaker 5: Iranians would use to repel a nineteen eighties style you know,
- 13:25Speaker 5: Iraq invasion, Like you send it in a bunch of
- 13:28Speaker 5: tanks and troops. Then you'd shoot the you know, one
- 13:31Speaker 5: fifty five millimeters shells at them. Those that's not the
- 13:35Speaker 5: artillerary artillery that you're going to be firing at Israel
- 13:39Speaker 5: or at Kuwait or the you know, any of the
- 13:42Speaker 5: Gulf states. Those are the ballistic missiles which are buried
- 13:45Speaker 5: much deeper in the mountains and which they've been developing
- 13:50Speaker 5: methods of launching that that would be able to continue
- 13:55Speaker 5: in a lack of air superiority. This is and they've
- 14:00Speaker 5: been planning it for a very very long time. So
- 14:02Speaker 5: they had, they had the time, they had, they had
- 14:05Speaker 5: the resources, they despite the sanctions the oil producing country,
- 14:10Speaker 5: and they had the motivation and the capacity to do it.
- 14:13Speaker 1: They did it.
- 14:13Speaker 5: And now we're shocked that, you know, we're not just
- 14:16Speaker 5: bumping them off like it's al Shabab or something.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Hmmm. And we should also mention looking at the the
- 14:25Speaker 4: New York Times live blog right now, their update scroll
- 14:29Speaker 4: is overwhelming. This is just as it two hours ago.
- 14:32Speaker 4: More infrastructure sites in Golf countries came under attack. So
- 14:35Speaker 4: this is about that Kuwait that the Kuwaiti desalination plant.
- 14:41Speaker 7: Yep.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Absolutely. And then the bridge was it yesterday? The highway
- 14:45Speaker 4: bridge near Tehran that was damaged in a US strike
- 14:48Speaker 4: that President Trump celebrated on Thursday. According to The Times,
- 14:50Speaker 4: the attack on the B one bridge killed eight people
- 14:53Speaker 4: and wounded ninety five, according to a local official sited
- 14:57Speaker 4: in state media.
- 14:59Speaker 1: We also got Trump's tweet here of the video he
- 15:02Speaker 1: decided to tweet out. He says, the biggest bridge in
- 15:04Speaker 1: Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again. Much
- 15:08Speaker 1: more to follow. It as time for Iran to make
- 15:10Speaker 1: a deal before it is too late and there's nothing
- 15:12Speaker 1: left of what still could become a great country. So
- 15:17Speaker 1: this is like a major attack on a civilian site.
- 15:20Speaker 1: There's also some reports that it was a double tap. Ryan,
- 15:23Speaker 1: did you hear this? Yeah, yes, that rescue crews were hit. Yes,
- 15:28Speaker 1: so not only civilian. I don't confirm, but yeah, well
- 15:32Speaker 1: we're here, We're it's unconfirmed, but we've been hearing it,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and so yes, do we think that these civilian attacks
- 15:40Speaker 1: are just retribution for our asses getting kicked and that
- 15:43Speaker 1: we're going to keep ramping that stuff up.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Well, seems like I'm being to ramp up.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it fits with the kind of Israeli strategy of
- 15:53Speaker 5: We're going to degrade Iran as much as possible, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 5: in the time that we're able to con in you
- 16:00Speaker 5: waging this just you know, blowing up the pharmaceutical industry,
- 16:06Speaker 5: blowing up the steel industry, going after medical sites. This
- 16:11Speaker 5: can only be aimed at like the total destruction of
- 16:14Speaker 5: their society absent being able to do a regime change.
- 16:21Speaker 5: And again the way which not that anybody cares, but
- 16:25Speaker 5: obvious war crimes.
- 16:27Speaker 4: When you have then two service members missing on the
- 16:31Speaker 4: ground as of right now, when you have that situation
- 16:36Speaker 4: unfolding as well, it just all of this creates, at
- 16:39Speaker 4: least in the minds of wartime leaders, more of a
- 16:43Speaker 4: permission structure for escalation. And that's this. Waking up this
- 16:48Speaker 4: morning to this particular slate of news is very bleak.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Not obviously now that gets out of this mess, Yes,
- 16:58Speaker 1: not at all. Well, well, we remain we've seen how
- 17:02Speaker 1: this will be a gusher for the world. But why
- 17:05Speaker 1: don't we get into some of these strategic firings happening
- 17:09Speaker 1: behind the scenes. Uh, there's been a big clearing of
- 17:12Speaker 1: house on Trump and heg sets end heg Seth I
- 17:16Speaker 1: believe has removed three top generals and uh yeah, you
- 17:23Speaker 1: can throw those up if you have a memory.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'll say it, go ahead.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And also Trump has released Pam Bondy into the private sector.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But first, why don't we start with the hag set Bondi.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Bondi is Pambondi. It has been traded ahead of the deadline.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I had another trade deadline to the private sector. And
- 17:45Speaker 4: it's a swap that everyone's really pleased with. But no,
- 17:48Speaker 4: in all seriousness, obviously, the big news yesterday, I have
- 17:51Speaker 4: to say it surprised me was that Bondi, Pam Bondi
- 17:55Speaker 4: Attorney General. Pam Bondi, who had just been with Donald
- 17:57Speaker 4: Trump at the Supreme Court the day early year, and
- 18:01Speaker 4: who has known Trump for many, many years, is out.
- 18:04Speaker 4: So Todd Blanche, who was Deputy ag. You may remember
- 18:07Speaker 4: Todd Blanche is the person who conducted that Gallaine Maxwell interview,
- 18:12Speaker 4: is now stepping in as Attorney General. Remains to be
- 18:15Speaker 4: seen whether Trump keeps him there. I will not one
- 18:18Speaker 4: interesting angle of this that's a little softer, but it is.
- 18:22Speaker 4: I find it interesting you had Christy Norman Pam Bondi,
- 18:25Speaker 4: both of whom were put in those roles, at least
- 18:28Speaker 4: in part because Donald Trump thought they were strong communicators,
- 18:32Speaker 4: that they were strong on television, and that they would
- 18:34Speaker 4: take this generational political opportunity as people on the right
- 18:39Speaker 4: saw it. When with Noam it was immigration crackdown. With
- 18:43Speaker 4: Bondi it was retribution and communicate it, convey it in
- 18:47Speaker 4: a way to the public that would mitigate any fallout,
- 18:50Speaker 4: and the like. They have both been replaced by men,
- 18:53Speaker 4: at least so far, and not you know, your typical
- 18:56Speaker 4: like I guess Mark wayn Mullen counts as somebody who
- 18:59Speaker 4: Trump thinks is on media and is more telegenic. But
- 19:03Speaker 4: I don't know that you could necessarily say that a
- 19:05Speaker 4: Todd Blanche. Let's let's read a little bit because Politico
- 19:08Speaker 4: is reporting here. I think it is. This is roughly
- 19:12Speaker 4: what I'm hearing as well. Quote Pam Bondi did almost
- 19:14Speaker 4: everything Donald Trump asked. It wasn't enough. Bonnie's ouster is
- 19:17Speaker 4: ag Thursday, continuing to string of unceremonious departures for occupants
- 19:21Speaker 4: of Trump's most perilous cabinet post all have one commonality,
- 19:25Speaker 4: failure in Trump's size to sufficiently use the Justice Department
- 19:28Speaker 4: as a shield from legal scrutiny and a sword against
- 19:32Speaker 4: his political enemies. He is now looking at potentially Lee Zelden,
- 19:37Speaker 4: who is EPA administrator, but was looking into, as Politico says,
- 19:43Speaker 4: the quote cascade of criminal prosecutions Trump has long demanded
- 19:47Speaker 4: against his enemies. That truth social post he accidentally made public.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Does everyone remember this? He accidentally posted a DM which
- 19:57Speaker 4: is interesting because it means Trump is dming his own
- 20:00Speaker 4: own cabinet officials on social media, right, and that the
- 20:05Speaker 4: account is so casually used by the president that you
- 20:11Speaker 4: could it's conceivable to accidentally post something with implications. I mean,
- 20:16Speaker 4: he does foreign policy and truth social implications for the world,
- 20:20Speaker 4: So just another interesting part of that. But he was
- 20:23Speaker 4: asking her to basically get tougher, and it looks like
- 20:27Speaker 4: from all of the reporting this said nothing to do
- 20:29Speaker 4: with Epstein, unless you know that's not a precipitating factor
- 20:34Speaker 4: in this. What Trump wanted from Pambondi was more prosecutions
- 20:38Speaker 4: of his political enemies, basically, and we should add no
- 20:41Speaker 4: tears for Pambondi, who brought the swamp into the Justice Department,
- 20:46Speaker 4: not for the first time, it's obviously very routine, but
- 20:49Speaker 4: they oversaw this horrible corrupt process at the FTC that
- 20:57Speaker 4: was allowing mergers to go through cash being like exchange
- 21:01Speaker 4: and just laugh yucking it up, not like back alley deals,
- 21:05Speaker 4: but like typical lobbyist type exchanges, which you know. Again,
- 21:09Speaker 4: Trump administration welcomes Gail Slater and says she's gonna crack
- 21:13Speaker 4: down on big tech, and then Pambondy and Todd Blanche
- 21:17Speaker 4: and Chad Mazzel and others to say it, sorry, swamp's
- 21:22Speaker 4: more powerful here. Basically, Pam Bondi came. Pambondi was a lobbyist.
- 21:26Speaker 4: She was a pretty successful lobbyist, so perhaps that's where
- 21:30Speaker 4: she's going back to.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And then we have you know, Trump here saying a
- 21:35Speaker 1: farewell to Pam Bondy. He says, Pam Bondi is a
- 21:39Speaker 1: great American patriot and a loyal friend who faithfully served
- 21:42Speaker 1: as my Attorney general. Over the past year, Ham did
- 21:45Speaker 1: a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown and crime across
- 21:49Speaker 1: our country, with murders plummeting to their lowest level since
- 21:52Speaker 1: nineteen hundred. Very interesting. We love Pam and she will
- 21:56Speaker 1: be transitioning to a much needed and important new job
- 22:00Speaker 1: in the private sector. And yeah, I guess there's a
- 22:05Speaker 1: lot of other fires to get to. But my final
- 22:06Speaker 1: question for both of you is you didn't Pam Bondy
- 22:10Speaker 1: kind of do a great job. I mean she had
- 22:13Speaker 1: two jobs, right, cover up the Epstein files and go
- 22:17Speaker 1: after political enemies with the Epstein files thing. She did
- 22:21Speaker 1: a terrible job covering up the Epstein files. Well, well,
- 22:25Speaker 1: here's the well, here's the thing, Ryan, I mean, listen,
- 22:28Speaker 1: they're not all released. You still don't have all the files.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So that's one point for Pam, right, Yeah, but he
- 22:33Speaker 1: had to go to war to stop like the news
- 22:36Speaker 1: cycle around it. So that's that's a loss when it
- 22:39Speaker 1: comes to your pr management. If you have to launch
- 22:42Speaker 1: a world war to like distract from like the you
- 22:49Speaker 1: know what, he didn't want to happen at all, then yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 1: that's that's an l Well, there was a period where
- 22:56Speaker 1: she was the center of it in a sense where
- 22:58Speaker 1: she was taking all the blame for it. In a
- 23:00Speaker 1: way that kind of helped Trump because then everyone could say, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 1: it's actually Pam Bondy who is befuddling this and and
- 23:08Speaker 1: messing this up. She did the influencer photos, and she
- 23:13Speaker 1: uh you know, she did a few other embarrassing uh
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, public speeches about it, and then people were
- 23:20Speaker 1: able to kind of direct attention away from Trump and
- 23:22Speaker 1: onto her and kind of blame it on her, which
- 23:25Speaker 1: is kind of what he's looking for. Right.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Yeah, that was bad, right, Emily, Like that was terrible,
- 23:30Speaker 5: like the way that she I mean no, it was no.
- 23:33Speaker 5: That did not help him, Like it did.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Not help him.
- 23:35Speaker 5: There was no reason for her to say that she
- 23:38Speaker 5: had thousands of hours of like pedophile stuff, that she
- 23:42Speaker 5: had all of this stuff on her desk.
- 23:45Speaker 1: There's no reason for her to give.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Empty binders and humiliate all of those like allies of
- 23:51Speaker 5: the White House. That was all own goals. None of
- 23:55Speaker 5: that was unforced. That was those were those were unforced errors.
- 24:00Speaker 4: She made this situation two hundred times worse in her
- 24:03Speaker 4: efforts to like circle the wagons around the president and
- 24:08Speaker 4: protect him, which is extra pathetic. Now I'm reading from
- 24:12Speaker 4: the Federalist right now. Obviously I used to work there.
- 24:14Speaker 4: The Federals is like the if you're if you're looking
- 24:16Speaker 4: for coverage on the right of like where they would
- 24:20Speaker 4: be looking, uh to see a or looking for the
- 24:24Speaker 4: rights perspective on the kind of retribution, the legal retribution
- 24:28Speaker 4: in the Trump administration, this would be the place. And
- 24:31Speaker 4: just to characterize some of the conservative backlash to Pam Bondi,
- 24:37Speaker 4: they're basically saying the coverach here from Matt Kittle who's
- 24:41Speaker 4: interviewing Mike Howell of the Oversight Project, which I think
- 24:43Speaker 4: is connected to the Heritage Foundation. But they're looking for
- 24:47Speaker 4: a quote vicious operator. The headline is Trump needs a
- 24:50Speaker 4: quote vicious operator to bring the Justice Department, to bring
- 24:53Speaker 4: justice back to the Justice Department. Its cites particularly the
- 24:57Speaker 4: Biden auto pen scandal, which is really big on the right,
- 25:00Speaker 4: that like Bondi was not able to like actually get
- 25:05Speaker 4: prosecutions in the autopen scandal, which we know Trump is
- 25:08Speaker 4: obsessed with, and that's kind of a proxy. It's not
- 25:11Speaker 4: it's not just about you know, oh, none of the
- 25:13Speaker 4: autobend people got locked up or there's been no justice.
- 25:16Speaker 4: It's more saying like, if you can't prosecute the autopen
- 25:19Speaker 4: stuff with the president, which the president is obsessed with,
- 25:24Speaker 4: then what aren't you doing that should be going like
- 25:28Speaker 4: remember when Tulca Gabbard went and was that the I
- 25:31Speaker 4: was the new media stef at the seat at this briefing.
- 25:33Speaker 4: It just happened that way where she comes up and
- 25:36Speaker 4: talks about this investigation, sprawling investigation into Obama and John
- 25:40Speaker 4: Brennan that the White House and the Justice Department is
- 25:45Speaker 4: looking into. Well, conservatives are getting impatient and saying where
- 25:50Speaker 4: are the actual charges? Like why have no charges been brought?
- 25:54Speaker 4: So I think that's where Trump probably is personally just
- 25:57Speaker 4: obsessed with the autopens scandal, the autopen prosecutions, but they're
- 26:03Speaker 4: looking for more heads to roll.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Basically, didn't Trump set her off on James Comy and
- 26:13Speaker 1: she she sent something off for that. It just was
- 26:16Speaker 1: like kind of made up, right.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Comy, Well, it's a whole that's a such a mess.
- 26:23Speaker 4: It was, I don't want to say necessarily thin, but
- 26:25Speaker 4: there was a whole thing with the Statute of limitations
- 26:28Speaker 4: and it was, if I'm remembering the details correctly, essentially
- 26:31Speaker 4: like a perjury charge.
- 26:34Speaker 1: So yeah, that's a problem.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Maybe also a good example of a prosecution being bungles
- 26:39Speaker 4: by Trump's perspective, because that was a hot mess. But
- 26:42Speaker 4: I don't know to what extent that was Pam Bondi's fault.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I mean, obviously she's the head of the Justice Department,
- 26:46Speaker 4: but uh, it just it sounds like, you know, vicious operator.
- 26:52Speaker 4: I don't know who's going to fit that Bill. I
- 26:54Speaker 4: don't know if it's Lee's Helden. I don't think Lee's
- 26:56Speaker 4: Elden vicious operator. So we'll see, maybe Matt Gates comes
- 27:01Speaker 4: out of retirement.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Oh that'd be cool, Ryan, though there are more heads
- 27:06Speaker 1: potentially to roll. Trump is not just considering or has
- 27:11Speaker 1: not just fired Bondi, but it's considering he's firing others.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Who else is on this hill list? Well, the Pentagon.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Stuff is like it's extremely intense, like the fact that
- 27:22Speaker 5: we're doing this, like right in the middle of this war.
- 27:26Speaker 5: So so he has pushed out General Randy George, and
- 27:33Speaker 5: I'm told this is basically a clash between heg Seth
- 27:37Speaker 5: and Driscoll, the Army secretary, and ultimately will kind of
- 27:42Speaker 5: evolve into a a heg Seth versus jd Vance clash.
- 27:48Speaker 5: I don't know if you've heard anything about that, Emily,
- 27:51Speaker 5: but this weirdly, like I know a lot of people
- 27:56Speaker 5: on the left are like worried that this is like
- 28:00Speaker 5: Seth like consolidating power and that Trump's going to do
- 28:02Speaker 5: some coup or something. It feels like it's actually more
- 28:06Speaker 5: related to like heg Seth's hostility to d e I
- 28:11Speaker 5: and he's gone after a bunch of other He's he's
- 28:15Speaker 5: tried to block a bunch of promotions of women and minorities,
- 28:21Speaker 5: and Driscoll has pushed back against him, And this is
- 28:24Speaker 5: HEG Seth kind of company firing back around that the
- 28:29Speaker 5: Washington Posts reporting, you know, two other army generals remove
- 28:33Speaker 5: were removed along with George. They are General David Hodeney,
- 28:38Speaker 5: who became the head of the Services Training and Transformation
- 28:41Speaker 5: Command in October, and Major General William Green Junior, the
- 28:45Speaker 5: chief of Army Chaplains. So it's like, but at what,
- 28:53Speaker 5: like what what is this? What is this guy doing here?
- 28:56Speaker 1: So Ryan, are you saying the straight of her moves
- 28:58Speaker 1: is not open yet because of woke? Is that essentially
- 29:01Speaker 1: the administration's here.
- 29:03Speaker 4: They've been way too focused on the gaze of horror
- 29:05Speaker 4: moves and like this is the problem with the EI
- 29:09Speaker 4: is it's all about the gay of hormus and not about.
- 29:12Speaker 5: The straight of horrmuves got to focus on the Straits. Yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 5: and so Hegseth has been trying. It has been consolidating
- 29:18Speaker 5: power from the beginning. You know, they've fired a whole
- 29:23Speaker 5: ton of people.
- 29:26Speaker 1: It looks like.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Here's again from the post with George's auster. Hegseth has
- 29:33Speaker 5: remade nearly the entire Joint chiefs of Staff.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Uh.
- 29:37Speaker 5: The only ones remaining from when Hegseth took office just
- 29:40Speaker 5: over a year ago are General Eric Smith of the
- 29:43Speaker 5: Marine Corps and General Chance Saltzman, head of the Space Force.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Everybody else and the joint chiefs of Staff has been
- 29:51Speaker 5: has been replaced.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Like extremely unusual has there been in this kind of
- 29:56Speaker 1: a head change in past wars like with Iraq againnis
- 30:00Speaker 1: Dan at the beginning? Was there a big period?
- 30:02Speaker 5: Not not in peace time war general like the purges
- 30:06Speaker 5: purges are not really a thing in kind of US
- 30:10Speaker 5: military history, like.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Which by the way, is the Civil War.
- 30:14Speaker 5: When Lincolns like pissed off at all generals. We can
- 30:16Speaker 5: get saga on here to run through it. But like
- 30:19Speaker 5: it's not a thing. Like it's a much more routinize, methodical,
- 30:24Speaker 5: hierarchical like orderly system than than even in Trump won.
- 30:31Speaker 5: But Trump is clearly bringing Trump energy to the to
- 30:35Speaker 5: the Pedagon.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Well, this is the flip side of it, is that
- 30:40Speaker 4: the Pentagon is a bureaucratic not of people who are
- 30:48Speaker 4: way too comfortable and probably should be purged. I don't
- 30:53Speaker 4: know the It would be very difficult for me to
- 30:55Speaker 4: say the particulars of like who should go, who's worthy,
- 30:58Speaker 4: and who's unworthy, but that's obviously I think it's very clearly,
- 31:03Speaker 4: I think a problem at the Pentagon, and then if
- 31:07Speaker 4: you don't come up with a sane solution to the problem,
- 31:09Speaker 4: you end up getting people who just go and take
- 31:11Speaker 4: Leo DiCaprio's blow towards at the end of Once Upon
- 31:14Speaker 4: a Time in Hollywood to the entire operation in wartime.
- 31:18Speaker 4: So the General Ryan pointed this out as we were
- 31:21Speaker 4: opening the show. George is ousted. We don't know the
- 31:25Speaker 4: exact timeline yet, but basically, as we have fighter pilots
- 31:31Speaker 4: missing or killed in action over Iran, like these things
- 31:34Speaker 4: are unfolding simultaneously and that's a horrible look, and we're like,
- 31:40Speaker 4: this is pretty new news. This is like fairly recent development.
- 31:44Speaker 4: So we'll learn more about what was happening behind the scenes.
- 31:46Speaker 4: But that's a they have a lot to answer for,
- 31:50Speaker 4: probably when it comes to exactly what was happening behind
- 31:53Speaker 4: the scenes.
- 31:55Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think Griffin, you were referring to Trump
- 31:57Speaker 5: apparently polling his advices on whether he should fire Tulsea Gabbard.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yest and I or do not invite is as they
- 32:06Speaker 1: call her. I believe. Yeah, also, go ahead, Well I
- 32:15Speaker 1: was gonna say.
- 32:15Speaker 4: They're also apparently, according to Playbook, he's quote express frustrations
- 32:20Speaker 4: with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutneck and Labor Secretary Loris shots
- 32:24Speaker 4: de Rumer Lori shot Is the rumor has been drowning
- 32:28Speaker 4: in scandals over the last so many months. So that's
- 32:31Speaker 4: one that you can eat. That's a head you could
- 32:33Speaker 4: easily see rolling quote. Rumors also continue circling around FBA.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I forget. Oh no, there's her husband doing a bunch
- 32:42Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Yeah, her husband's been kicked out, well her too. It's
- 32:47Speaker 4: it's like pretty typical DC type stuff like misuse of
- 32:50Speaker 4: public resources, and her husband has a little bit of
- 32:53Speaker 4: a problem, like they're not even letting him back into
- 32:55Speaker 4: the labor building because.
- 32:58Speaker 1: People like Yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Also apparently Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, So in addition to
- 33:07Speaker 4: Tulsi and Pam Bondi and christin Nome. It's it's beginning
- 33:15Speaker 4: to be Trump one ish and covering Trump one, it
- 33:20Speaker 4: was just Jeff Sessions and like it was just this
- 33:23Speaker 4: constant switching of personnel, a top key personnel. And that
- 33:29Speaker 4: was one of the big differences between Trump one and
- 33:31Speaker 4: Trump two is that he came in with this sort
- 33:34Speaker 4: of well considered slate, meaning they had thought long and
- 33:37Speaker 4: hard about the strategy of who they were putting where
- 33:40Speaker 4: and who could get Senate confirmed and the like. And
- 33:42Speaker 4: now a year in, it's starting to feel a little
- 33:46Speaker 4: bit much sort of shakier on the palace intrigue front.
- 33:49Speaker 4: And that was always seen as like a good A
- 33:51Speaker 4: lot of conservatives saw that as like this was Trump
- 33:54Speaker 4: two point zero knew and improved.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Yeah, and it looks like Tulsi, you know, is gonna
- 34:03Speaker 5: just let herself get fired. It's just so embarrassing. You know,
- 34:08Speaker 5: her friend Joe Kent went out on top, like he
- 34:11Speaker 5: went out with viral post, he did the circuit. And
- 34:17Speaker 5: so now they're gunning for Tulsi because they know that
- 34:20Speaker 5: she kind of agrees with him, but she doesn't have
- 34:23Speaker 5: the stones to just like say it, and I don't what, like,
- 34:27Speaker 5: what is she staying for it? It's election to get
- 34:31Speaker 5: fired then to quit over principle, but okay whatever. Meanwhile,
- 34:35Speaker 5: Trump is asking the Congress for one point five trillion
- 34:40Speaker 5: dollars for the Pentagon, which and for ship like a doubling.
- 34:47Speaker 5: It's a it's like a doubling of the budget over
- 34:49Speaker 5: the last couple of years. It included yeah, forty one warships.
- 34:55Speaker 1: When when can't get anywhere near Iran? Well, that's to
- 35:00Speaker 1: fix the laundry rooms on all the future ships so
- 35:03Speaker 1: they don't catch on firerye. And but but the one
- 35:05Speaker 1: way drone attacks, we're still gonna have issues with that.
- 35:07Speaker 1: How many drones could you buy with one point five trillion?
- 35:11Speaker 1: You could buy? Yes, all the drones, all the truth,
- 35:16Speaker 1: all the drones.
- 35:18Speaker 5: It's crazy, like these ships are these ships cost billions
- 35:23Speaker 5: and they can't even get close to Iran because of
- 35:26Speaker 5: these twenty thousand dollars shot had drones And so now
- 35:28Speaker 5: we're going to go build a whole bunch more of
- 35:30Speaker 5: them inste while cutting spending on healthcare, education, infrastructure like
- 35:40Speaker 5: things that the American people need here at home. Like
- 35:44Speaker 5: he's he's now consciously and explicitly linking. Like we saw,
- 35:49Speaker 5: he's like making campaign ads against himself on a regular basis.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, the social Security thing, or the yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 5: We can't do daycare, we can't do all we can't
- 35:59Speaker 5: do medicaid, met medicare, we can't do all of these things.
- 36:02Speaker 1: We got to do war. Let the states do those,
- 36:04Speaker 1: and then you know, they can raise their taxes. States
- 36:06Speaker 1: can raise their taxes.
- 36:09Speaker 4: I was listening to Zaraba. Mario was on Megan Kelly yesterday.
- 36:13Speaker 4: I was listening to it, and he was saying, like,
- 36:16Speaker 4: that is this is a great point. He was like,
- 36:18Speaker 4: that is the one. One of the hardest red line
- 36:21Speaker 4: differences that Trump drew intentionally strategically between himself and the
- 36:25Speaker 4: old Republican Party was he said, over and over again,
- 36:28Speaker 4: because he understood the GOP base better than the GOP politicians,
- 36:32Speaker 4: we are not touching your entitlements. He didn't use the
- 36:37Speaker 4: word entitlement, but he said, we are not touching this.
- 36:40Speaker 4: And we're not going to do stupid wars. We're gonna
- 36:43Speaker 4: new stupid wars. We're gonna focus here at home. And
- 36:45Speaker 4: when you combine those two things, the politics of it
- 36:48Speaker 4: is like to your point, Ryan about Trump posting on
- 36:52Speaker 4: true social while he's clearly been briefed on UH two
- 36:56Speaker 4: fighter pilots missing in action in Iran, Like he's always
- 37:01Speaker 4: had a screw or twenty loose, but he's there's an
- 37:06Speaker 4: ungluing happening right now, the great ungluing right.
- 37:10Speaker 5: So Donald Trump is trying to destroy the American Empire,
- 37:14Speaker 5: destroy the fossil fuel industry, and destroy the Republican Party,
- 37:18Speaker 5: and somehow people are on the left are mad at
- 37:20Speaker 5: him about that. That's the part I don't understand, Like
- 37:23Speaker 5: this is the greatest revolutionary figure the left has ever
- 37:28Speaker 5: kind of put into power.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Well, it's almost like the Democrat any lessons, The Democrats
- 37:33Speaker 1: won't have to learn a single lesson they're so excited
- 37:35Speaker 1: about that.
- 37:37Speaker 4: This is this is a vindication of Susan Sarandon who
- 37:40Speaker 4: went on Chris Hayes and she said something along the
- 37:43Speaker 4: lines is like twenty sixteen of She was being challenged
- 37:48Speaker 4: on Bernie stuff at the time by Chris Hayes and
- 37:50Speaker 4: he was like, so are you saying that maybe Trump
- 37:54Speaker 4: will be better, you know, for like revolutionary purposes, like
- 38:00Speaker 4: and I think she said something to the along lines
- 38:02Speaker 4: of like heightening the contradictions, like and he said, you
- 38:04Speaker 4: mean that like a she said he might bring the
- 38:07Speaker 4: revolution faster.
- 38:08Speaker 1: That was the quote.
- 38:10Speaker 4: He said, goes, do you mean that in like a
- 38:12Speaker 4: Leninist way? And she was like yeah, yeah, she's doing it,
- 38:16Speaker 4: which it was a huge controversy. They tried to cancel her.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, sorry to cut you off, Emily. We
- 38:21Speaker 1: do have a guest coming in right now, and just
- 38:24Speaker 1: a flag. This is a long Easter weekend, so we
- 38:28Speaker 1: probably expect a lot more excursions and events to occur
- 38:32Speaker 1: over this long weekend because I believe markets are not
- 38:35Speaker 1: open on Monday, if if I'm correct, so expect quite
- 38:39Speaker 1: a lot more action today right there, close today, Oh
- 38:42Speaker 1: you're right, is because it's good Friday. All right. Well,
- 38:45Speaker 1: on that note, we do have a candidate joining us.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Why don't we get to her.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Well, we're joined now by Fie Phillips' daily candidate for
- 38:56Speaker 5: Congress in New York seventeenth district. This is running against
- 38:59Speaker 5: Mike Lawler and kind of like that that area like
- 39:02Speaker 5: upstate just north of kind of Manhattan, well, sometimes referred
- 39:07Speaker 5: to as a little bedroom community for people up there.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Effie, thanks so much for joining us here.
- 39:13Speaker 6: Thanks so much for having me excited.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Beyond, of course, we wanted to start with a little
- 39:20Speaker 5: bit of the kind of Hassan mania that is kind
- 39:22Speaker 5: of gripping CNN and the Democratic establishment. Although I repeat myself, Griffin,
- 39:30Speaker 5: do you have do you have this latest latest clip
- 39:33Speaker 5: from Jake Tapper where they they kind of allow their
- 39:39Speaker 5: kind of mental illness to be on kind of full
- 39:41Speaker 5: display this when it comes to their kind of Hassan
- 39:43Speaker 5: de arrangement syndrome.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Boy, Yes, apologies, I'm sure you've already gotten enough of
- 39:49Speaker 1: these clips, but this is a collab. Also, this is
- 39:53Speaker 1: a third way tweet who's been making quite a lot
- 39:56Speaker 1: of noise about Hassan specifically that's been there in a
- 39:59Speaker 1: time of uh the Iran War, massive economic job loss,
- 40:04Speaker 1: They're decided to focus on Hassan Piker. They say, left
- 40:07Speaker 1: wing anti semitism is often savvier than the brash, neo
- 40:10Speaker 1: Nazi rhetoric of the right. Their attacks are loaded with
- 40:13Speaker 1: words taught in social justice seminars and are often less blatant.
- 40:17Speaker 1: They replace the word Jew with Zionists while pushing age
- 40:21Speaker 1: old tropes about Jewish wealth and influence. Let's take a
- 40:25Speaker 1: listen to Jake Tappicker for a second that I talked
- 40:28Speaker 1: about the think tank Third Way. They wrote, we're all
- 40:30Speaker 1: for a big tent.
- 40:31Speaker 5: The Democratic Party needs to drawl line in the Santa
- 40:33Speaker 5: San Piper and his fellow Jew Haterlong on the other side.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Tonio s. Pelivan asked Piper.
- 40:40Speaker 8: People of his able to do is they try to
- 40:43Speaker 8: inoculate themselves against claims of Jew hatred by pointing it
- 40:48Speaker 8: out in places that aren't them. He's been clear pointing
- 40:51Speaker 8: things out on the right of that's anti Semitism. These
- 40:54Speaker 8: are the tropes they use, and then he'll use the
- 40:57Speaker 8: exact same tropes.
- 40:58Speaker 1: And just sub jew for is Realm, which is the
- 41:01Speaker 1: place where all Jewics collectively.
- 41:02Speaker 9: Have a connection to and is the homeland where more
- 41:05Speaker 9: than fifty percent of Jews on planet Earth lived. So
- 41:08Speaker 9: it's not you would never see Jews control the media,
- 41:10Speaker 9: but Israel controls the media. And you know, the Jews
- 41:15Speaker 9: didn't listen to the war with Iran and control the
- 41:17Speaker 9: American government, but Israel does.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 5: Just so curious for your reaction to this, because if
- 41:24Speaker 5: you've been getting criticism as well for doing campaigning with
- 41:28Speaker 5: or maybe if you did an interview with Hassan something
- 41:30Speaker 5: along those lines. First of all, just as a fact
- 41:34Speaker 5: check for viewers, Marco Rubio himself said that it was
- 41:39Speaker 5: Israel that initiated the attack on Iran and that we
- 41:41Speaker 5: went because Israel had done that. I don't believe Hazan
- 41:46Speaker 5: Piker has ever said that Israel controls the American media.
- 41:49Speaker 5: That's just completely bar bizarre thing to say. And relatedly,
- 41:55Speaker 5: on the day that this segment was aired, the Israel
- 41:58Speaker 5: Kaness had passed a death penalty law that would apply
- 42:03Speaker 5: only to Palestinians, and his suggestion there is that anybody
- 42:10Speaker 5: who criticized that must be smuggling in, you know, quote
- 42:14Speaker 5: unquote Jew hatred and couldn't possibly have actual genuine criticism
- 42:19Speaker 5: of this law that the Kanessa had just put into place,
- 42:23Speaker 5: which I don't believe was covered at all on that program.
- 42:26Speaker 1: So Effie, what what what? Why?
- 42:28Speaker 5: Why are people coming after you about Hassan Piker, Like,
- 42:31Speaker 5: What's what's going on in this race?
- 42:33Speaker 4: You know?
- 42:33Speaker 6: I think you just describe the frame that we're imperfectly.
- 42:37Speaker 7: It's like the the the democratic establishment hasn't learned the
- 42:43Speaker 7: lesson of say, the election of Mom Donnie. You know,
- 42:48Speaker 7: we saw all that was thrown at him right by
- 42:51Speaker 7: by Cuomo and his race, and what that did was further.
- 42:57Speaker 6: Alienate all of the young people, all of the.
- 43:00Speaker 7: People who had previously felt disenfranchised from politics. And you know,
- 43:09Speaker 7: it's like it baffles me that we want to sacrifice,
- 43:16Speaker 7: you know, the participation of all of those young people,
- 43:19Speaker 7: so many people who mistrust the party and pursue this bizarre.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Framing that Third Way is doing it. I'm to be
- 43:29Speaker 6: honest with you, I'm at a complete loss.
- 43:33Speaker 7: Why we would sabotage our own party in this way
- 43:36Speaker 7: and allow this type of violent framing of anti Semitism
- 43:42Speaker 7: of people who in many ways are on the right
- 43:45Speaker 7: side of history. I mean, we could all speculate here,
- 43:49Speaker 7: but to what end For me as a candidate? What
- 43:53Speaker 7: I see are thousands and thousands of young people who
- 43:57Speaker 7: mistrust the Democratic Party because they do not see the
- 44:02Speaker 7: violence that the State of Israel is perpetrating, and that
- 44:07Speaker 7: there it is like the Vietnam.
- 44:09Speaker 6: Of this generation.
- 44:11Speaker 7: And I don't know, I mean, like, I just feel
- 44:15Speaker 7: like our party is blowing itself up over this when
- 44:17Speaker 7: it could actually be creating a human rights centered and
- 44:22Speaker 7: people centered agenda that our nation wants and frankly the
- 44:26Speaker 7: world wants.
- 44:28Speaker 4: You know. It's so interesting because I think if this
- 44:30Speaker 4: in this almost like media historic framing where what Hassan
- 44:36Speaker 4: Piker does is sit in front of a computer to
- 44:39Speaker 4: the point where it would be impossible for him to
- 44:42Speaker 4: lie or be inauthentic about what he's feeling because he
- 44:45Speaker 4: has a camera on him, like he's on Big Brother
- 44:47Speaker 4: or you know, the real world back in the day
- 44:51Speaker 4: at all times. And it's like this is the streaming economy,
- 44:55Speaker 4: And I'm just curious as a candidate if you think
- 44:57Speaker 4: that's kind of a lot of people see some of
- 45:00Speaker 4: this and and actually even Israel policy itself as kind
- 45:03Speaker 4: of a proxy for whether you are being honest and
- 45:07Speaker 4: like real to paraphrase the real World tagline with voters,
- 45:13Speaker 4: like there's just this expectation that you have to be
- 45:16Speaker 4: more kind of like I hate the word authentic, but
- 45:19Speaker 4: there's something to that like raw almost.
- 45:22Speaker 7: I think that, you know, and I'm speaking as a
- 45:24Speaker 7: person who is gen X right, Like so this Big
- 45:27Speaker 7: Brother sort of world of showing authenticity is entirely new
- 45:33Speaker 7: to me, and I can tell you it is entirely
- 45:36Speaker 7: new to the Democratic chairs who came after me as
- 45:41Speaker 7: on Hazan Piker.
- 45:42Speaker 6: I think that they.
- 45:45Speaker 7: We joke internally because it's like it's like they hit
- 45:48Speaker 7: a horneance ness the size of a house, and they
- 45:49Speaker 7: had no idea because they had no idea of of
- 45:53Speaker 7: of Hassan Piker. They perceive him to just be a person,
- 45:57Speaker 7: not a media outlet. He is both, and that media
- 46:02Speaker 7: is taking this form now of this authenticity to the
- 46:07Speaker 7: degree where you see all the warts, all the misstatements,
- 46:10Speaker 7: all the angry things that people would typically blip out,
- 46:14Speaker 7: that people would would screen. And so it's almost like
- 46:18Speaker 7: there's a generational difference in the reaction, right So and so,
- 46:25Speaker 7: for example, all of the young people on my team
- 46:27Speaker 7: and all of the young people who they talked to,
- 46:30Speaker 7: they all follow Hassan Piker. They all thought it was
- 46:32Speaker 7: extraordinary that I was on Hassan Piker. One of them
- 46:35Speaker 7: actually asked if they could come along, and he did
- 46:39Speaker 7: because he wanted to meet Hassan Piker versus establishment, which
- 46:45Speaker 7: is like, you know, I mean, they literally had no
- 46:48Speaker 7: idea that the AI generated complaints that they wrote, which
- 46:53Speaker 7: is frankly what it looks like would be viewed and
- 46:57Speaker 7: interrogated by millions and millions of people, and maybe this
- 47:01Speaker 7: is part of the problem that they don't see the
- 47:05Speaker 7: opportunity to speak to the very people. At every indivisible protest,
- 47:12Speaker 7: I go to where they say, where are the young people?
- 47:14Speaker 7: Where are the young people? Well, I'll tell you where
- 47:16Speaker 7: they are. They're on Hassan Piker. That's why I went
- 47:18Speaker 7: on the That's why I went on the stream.
- 47:21Speaker 1: There.
- 47:22Speaker 5: Since then there's been this kind of weird, contradictory, bifurcated response.
- 47:27Speaker 5: So David From I think it was David From said
- 47:30Speaker 5: he asked an AI agent to tell him and his audience,
- 47:37Speaker 5: and that the AI agent told him that Piker has
- 47:40Speaker 5: twenty thousand to thirty thousand concurrent viewers, you know, he
- 47:43Speaker 5: streams for eight to twelve hours a day. And then
- 47:47Speaker 5: David From looked up the number of viewers that like,
- 47:49Speaker 5: you know, MSNBC has in primetime or something, and I
- 47:53Speaker 5: think was very confused about the way that viewership stats
- 47:56Speaker 5: are analyzed and understood, and so was his AI. He
- 48:01Speaker 5: posted something and then that became like a thing that well,
- 48:05Speaker 5: actually a saw and Piker doesn't have an audience. It's
- 48:08Speaker 5: just a it's just a tiny, little rounding error. So
- 48:13Speaker 5: you're then left with the question, well, then why is
- 48:15Speaker 5: there why are you freaking out right? Why is this
- 48:18Speaker 5: multimillion dollar Schumer connected, you know, think tank doing op
- 48:22Speaker 5: eds and an entire campaign around a guy who that
- 48:25Speaker 5: nobody watches. But I'm curious from your perspective, what was
- 48:30Speaker 5: the fallout? Not the fallout? What was the kind of
- 48:34Speaker 5: reaction to you going on? How did how did it
- 48:36Speaker 5: affect your campaign or not affect your campaign?
- 48:38Speaker 1: Is if it did?
- 48:38Speaker 5: If if it's true that nobody actually watches his program,
- 48:42Speaker 5: then well, first of all you wouldn't be here and
- 48:45Speaker 5: we wouldn't be talking about it, so well then it
- 48:49Speaker 5: would be no effect.
- 48:50Speaker 1: What what was the effect there were?
- 48:52Speaker 6: The effect was was there were two sides of it.
- 48:55Speaker 7: The first was the immediate, in frantic, i think, surprising
- 48:59Speaker 7: response by the chairs of the Democratic committees of New
- 49:03Speaker 7: York seventeen district. It was within an hour that this
- 49:07Speaker 7: response that they put out was generated. And I will
- 49:11Speaker 7: say that the very first thing they quoted as evidence
- 49:16Speaker 7: against Hassan Piker was Fox News And that just blew
- 49:20Speaker 7: my mind because to complain about, you know, all the
- 49:25Speaker 7: things that people are saying about Hassan Piker in this
- 49:28Speaker 7: moment from a news organization that you know, you know,
- 49:32Speaker 7: like has advanced some of the most hateful rhetoric about immigrants,
- 49:37Speaker 7: about Hispanics, about Muslims, about Jews without any way of
- 49:42Speaker 7: you know, without looking at that critically in relation to
- 49:45Speaker 7: what they were saying to me, which is to say
- 49:48Speaker 7: that they were flamed. They were flamed, like ratioed is
- 49:53Speaker 7: the word that me as Jenks, just learned. And I
- 49:58Speaker 7: don't know that they actually expected that. I don't know
- 50:01Speaker 7: that they expected so many people to see their statement
- 50:06Speaker 7: as evidence of bias within the Democratic Party, as evidence
- 50:12Speaker 7: of the kind of attacks that we're seeing right now
- 50:14Speaker 7: from third wave and that further disenfranchises people.
- 50:18Speaker 6: So the effect has.
- 50:20Speaker 7: Been thousands of new followers, so many comments, a major
- 50:27Speaker 7: uptick and contributions, and people saying to me what they
- 50:32Speaker 7: often say to me because I've been very transparent about
- 50:35Speaker 7: my position on Israel and Palestine, like keep going, like
- 50:40Speaker 7: don't stop, like you are saying the things that people
- 50:43Speaker 7: want to hear.
- 50:44Speaker 6: And what I hope in the end, because I'm a.
- 50:48Speaker 7: Democrat, I'm a progressive Democrat, is that the party learns
- 50:52Speaker 7: the lesson right that our job is to listen to
- 50:57Speaker 7: the public. Listen to the public, hear what they're saying,
- 51:01Speaker 7: represent the positions through a moral lens. And when I
- 51:05Speaker 7: say a moral lens, that means we have to fight
- 51:08Speaker 7: anti Semitism, which is on the rise, we have to
- 51:11Speaker 7: fight Islamophobia which is on the rise. My goodness that
- 51:16Speaker 7: when you think about the kind of violence that's happening
- 51:19Speaker 7: in our country, with eyes to kinds of discrimination that
- 51:21Speaker 7: bias all these things like these are the things that
- 51:24Speaker 7: we have to fight. And frankly, when people reach out
- 51:27Speaker 7: to me and they say, keep going, this is what
- 51:29Speaker 7: they're saying, and the party hear it, they seem to
- 51:33Speaker 7: be very far from it at this point right now, though,
- 51:35Speaker 7: which is very baffling.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And it seems like the big thing from the
- 51:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty four election was that the modicum was we
- 51:44Speaker 1: need a bigger tent for the Democratic Party, we need
- 51:47Speaker 1: to bring in young people, or what have you. And
- 51:49Speaker 1: I just wanted to pull up this article from The
- 51:52Speaker 1: Bulwark where they interviewed Jonathan Cowen, who's the founder of
- 51:56Speaker 1: Third Way, and he says, if people are really arguing
- 52:00Speaker 1: that the price of winning is becoming like a bigoted,
- 52:02Speaker 1: misogynist like a son Piker. Then I'll take not winning.
- 52:07Speaker 1: So it seems the third way position is actually to
- 52:10Speaker 1: lose with Grace. Now, what do you make of that?
- 52:16Speaker 1: It seems like they're upset about Israel, but he says
- 52:21Speaker 1: misogynist there as well. Is there other reasons that they
- 52:26Speaker 1: could potentially be trying to sequester or demean Hassan because
- 52:32Speaker 1: Hassan has been going around and I think he's spoken to,
- 52:36Speaker 1: interviewed about twenty different Democratic candidates across the country, and
- 52:41Speaker 1: some people accuse him of being a purity test, litmus test,
- 52:46Speaker 1: wants to wreck the Democratic Party, doesn't want it to win.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Yet we see him on the road with candidates all
- 52:53Speaker 1: over the country. What do you make of this big
- 52:55Speaker 1: tent strategy, You.
- 52:58Speaker 6: Know, it's a great question.
- 53:01Speaker 7: What I think is and I believe firmly, is that
- 53:06Speaker 7: Hassan Piker speaks for and the young people who have
- 53:11Speaker 7: been disenfranchised right and in a way, what we're seeing
- 53:14Speaker 7: between Midway and they're framing, which I think is awful,
- 53:20Speaker 7: and Hassan Piker, you know, and the people who follow him,
- 53:24Speaker 7: is like a battle for the soul of the Democratic Party.
- 53:29Speaker 7: In the way that I see that the fight between
- 53:31Speaker 7: Cuomo and Mamdani in New York City was a battle
- 53:35Speaker 7: sort of for the soul of the Democratic Party. What
- 53:38Speaker 7: young people want is on authenticity. They want people to
- 53:42Speaker 7: recognize that our tax dollars are going to fund military
- 53:47Speaker 7: aid for the very nation that created this horrendous death
- 53:52Speaker 7: penalty in an apartheid form, like there is no escaping that.
- 53:57Speaker 7: And frankly, a lot of people who I speak to
- 54:00Speaker 7: or question me. I get emails every day questioning me
- 54:03Speaker 7: saying I agree with you on the Palestine issue, but
- 54:10Speaker 7: why Hassan Piker right? And they in that respect, they
- 54:13Speaker 7: agree with Hassan Piker on the Palestine issue. And what
- 54:17Speaker 7: I you know, I'm furious about with the Democratic Party
- 54:21Speaker 7: is that we actually have a capacity to build consensus
- 54:24Speaker 7: around this, and yet the framing that Third Way puts
- 54:27Speaker 7: out and focusing on misogyny, the way Cuomo's team focused
- 54:33Speaker 7: on anti semitism when dealing with Mom Danni.
- 54:38Speaker 6: Is completely blowing up our party to what ends?
- 54:43Speaker 4: You know?
- 54:44Speaker 7: That's the answer that I don't. I can speculate, but
- 54:46Speaker 7: I don't yet have. But we're doing it again. We're
- 54:50Speaker 7: handing it over to the Republicans, and it is completely
- 54:54Speaker 7: it is completely appalling and it is outrageous. But what
- 54:58Speaker 7: I'm hopeful for is that young people, people under forty
- 55:03Speaker 7: four is really what I say, and people see through it,
- 55:06Speaker 7: and they're going to come out and they're going to vote.
- 55:08Speaker 7: They're going to vote their conscience. And so we'll see
- 55:11Speaker 7: in New York seventeen is supposedly a purple district. I've
- 55:14Speaker 7: taken a very what I hope that people perceive to
- 55:18Speaker 7: be an authentic and progressive human rights focused platform, and
- 55:23Speaker 7: we're going to test it here too. You know, I'm
- 55:26Speaker 7: making it on the ballot where you know, we're going
- 55:28Speaker 7: to we're going to take it to the primary.
- 55:30Speaker 6: We're going to debate with the other candidates.
- 55:33Speaker 7: Who take no position at all on this and are
- 55:38Speaker 7: very quiet about a lot of things like ice, like
- 55:42Speaker 7: what our tax systems should be, how to make it
- 55:44Speaker 7: more fair by taxing the ultra wealthy, all of these things.
- 55:47Speaker 6: So you know, yeah, why they Yeah, what can I say?
- 55:53Speaker 6: It's free?
- 55:53Speaker 1: There's almost been a louder Yeah, there's been a louder
- 55:57Speaker 1: retribution against the song from Democrats than the Iran War.
- 56:01Speaker 1: People are are being louder about a streamer than this
- 56:05Speaker 1: disastrous war that's putting our global economy into peril. Any
- 56:09Speaker 1: final questions, Ryan and Emily, all right, I think you're muted.
- 56:14Speaker 5: Ryana, No, anything that doesn't for me. You really appreciate you, Uh,
- 56:21Speaker 5: joining that must have been an interesting ride. Imagine that
- 56:26Speaker 5: you didn't quite expect, You didn't quite know what you
- 56:28Speaker 5: were getting into, or at least you wouldn't have before.
- 56:32Speaker 5: I wouldn't have felt as a fellow gen xer. We
- 56:34Speaker 5: don't know what twitters. It's just a fact.
- 56:38Speaker 7: I'm trying to keep up because gen X you know,
- 56:40Speaker 7: we think we're the coolest in the room.
- 56:42Speaker 1: But no, no we're not, and not for a long time.
- 56:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, thank you for all you do in
- 56:51Speaker 6: your time.
- 56:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 56:52Speaker 7: It's I did expect this to a degree, you know,
- 56:57Speaker 7: because I've seen the way the Left is starting to
- 57:00Speaker 7: be framed in this way as advancing an antiput.
- 57:05Speaker 6: But I want to say this I think is really important.
- 57:08Speaker 7: When I was in Israel, what I learned was that
- 57:15Speaker 7: so many people, so many Israelis this was my time
- 57:19Speaker 7: in Israel and the occupied West Bank, are fighting so
- 57:23Speaker 7: hard for justice because they recognize that their own government
- 57:27Speaker 7: is becoming what they describe in their words as a
- 57:29Speaker 7: fascist government, and the government that can do the most
- 57:32Speaker 7: horrendous things like this, like this death penalty that's within
- 57:38Speaker 7: an apartheid frame. I mean, that is staggering, and Israelis
- 57:43Speaker 7: are fighting hard against this in partnership with Palestinians. And
- 57:49Speaker 7: to me, that gives me an immense amount of hope.
- 57:52Speaker 7: Because it's as dark and awful as the trajectory of
- 57:55Speaker 7: this nation, there are lots of people out there who
- 57:58Speaker 7: understand that the key is that we have to stop
- 58:01Speaker 7: attacking each other. We have to come together around our
- 58:05Speaker 7: shared values, which is people deserve justice and they deserve
- 58:11Speaker 7: the opportunity to thrive and through all of this, and
- 58:16Speaker 7: in despite of some of the very awful things so
- 58:19Speaker 7: San Piker has said in the past, in my meeting
- 58:22Speaker 7: with him, I believe that that is what he wants,
- 58:24Speaker 7: and I think that his millions of followers believe.
- 58:27Speaker 6: That that is what he wants, and that is the
- 58:29Speaker 6: direction that our nation needs to be going in.
- 58:32Speaker 7: Not the further splitting, accusations, attacks and own goals as
- 58:37Speaker 7: I see that we see coming from Midway and this
- 58:42Speaker 7: and this appalling campaign that they're putting forward.
- 58:45Speaker 6: It's staggeringly destructive. So thank you.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Third Way, I believe. I don't know if Midway is
- 58:51Speaker 1: catching strays there. If that's is it the same thing
- 58:53Speaker 1: Ryan the third Way?
- 58:54Speaker 6: I meant to say, right.
- 58:57Speaker 1: For everyone's happening in the way, maybe yeah, mid Okay, Effie,
- 59:03Speaker 1: you mentioned Zora, And can you give us a quick,
- 59:04Speaker 1: just quick bullet point list of some proposals or policies
- 59:07Speaker 1: you want to bring to your district and where can
- 59:09Speaker 1: people find and support your campaign if they so choose.
- 59:13Speaker 6: So yeah, thank you so much.
- 59:15Speaker 7: Like so, the most critical things I think in New
- 59:18Speaker 7: York seventeen are housing. So housing affordability, like increasing the
- 59:24Speaker 7: number of housing in the district by sixty six thousand.
- 59:26Speaker 6: At least is critical. Medicare for all.
- 59:30Speaker 7: We have to just get this done, like too many
- 59:33Speaker 7: people are suffering, and in a nation as wealthy as ours,
- 59:36Speaker 7: we can do it. Universal childcare. The state of Arizona
- 59:39Speaker 7: has already done it. These are critical things to the
- 59:42Speaker 7: people of.
- 59:43Speaker 6: New York seventeen. Of course, just immigration reform.
- 59:46Speaker 7: We have to stop giving governments like our current one
- 59:50Speaker 7: and opportunity to weaponize immigrants for their political gain. We
- 59:55Speaker 7: need a clear, fair immigration system, and my goodness, it
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: just keeps going on. And this is the of course,
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: the one that I hear about the most. Justice at
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: home and justice abroad. Right, we have to take care
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: of the problem with us. We have to take care
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: of human rights within our nation, and we cannot fund
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: nations that violate human rights, particularly against our own laws
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: and against international laws.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: That absolutely has to stop.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: All right, people find you.
