- 0:10Speaker 1: Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. Wherever you are today,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Daily Bible Study, your daily dive into God's Word.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm your host, Gilgillori, and it's March thirteenth, twenty twenty five,
- 0:23Speaker 1: a beautiful day to sit with scripture and let it
- 0:25Speaker 1: speak to our hearts. Today we're unpacking Mark eleven twenty
- 0:29Speaker 1: five from the King James Version, a verse that's short
- 0:32Speaker 1: but mighty, all about forgiveness and prayer. If you've ever
- 0:35Speaker 1: struggled to let go of a grudge or wondered why
- 0:37Speaker 1: it matters so much to God, stick with me. We're
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to dig into the verse, it's backstory and what
- 0:43Speaker 1: it means for us right now. Let's get started, all right,
- 0:48Speaker 1: let's read it together. Mark eleven twenty five KJV says,
- 0:53Speaker 1: And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught
- 0:55Speaker 1: against any that your Father also, which is in Heaven,
- 0:58Speaker 1: may forgive you your trust passes simple, right, just twenty
- 1:03Speaker 1: seven words. But oh man, does it pack a punch.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Jesus is dropping this truth bomb in the middle of
- 1:10Speaker 1: some pretty intense moments and it's all about linking our
- 1:12Speaker 1: forgiveness of others to God's forgiveness of us. Before we
- 1:16Speaker 1: unpack that, let's zoom out and get the backstory, because
- 1:19Speaker 1: context is everything. So Mark chapter eleven is a wild ride.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Jesus has just entered Jerusalem. It's what we call the
- 1:26Speaker 1: triumphal entry, with the crowd shouting Hosanna and waving palm branches.
- 1:31Speaker 1: That's Sunday, the start of what we now call Holy Week.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Then on Monday he curses a fig tree yep, a
- 1:37Speaker 1: tree because it's got no fruit, and by Tuesday it's withered.
- 1:40Speaker 1: People are freaking out. He also flips tables in the temple,
- 1:44Speaker 1: calling it a den of thieves instead of a house
- 1:47Speaker 1: of prayer. The religious leaders are not happy, and the
- 1:51Speaker 1: tensions building fast. By the time we hit verse twenty five,
- 1:55Speaker 1: Jesus is teaching his disciples about faith, prayer, and how
- 1:58Speaker 1: to live in God's power. As the cross looms closer
- 2:02Speaker 1: now Verses twenty two to twenty six, or this many
- 2:04Speaker 1: lesson on prayer, Jesus says, have faith in God. You
- 2:08Speaker 1: can move mountains if you believe and don't doubt. But
- 2:10Speaker 1: then he pivots in verse twenty five to forgiveness. It's
- 2:13Speaker 1: like he's saying, Hey, you want your prayers to work,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you want that mountain moving faith, then check your heart first.
- 2:19Speaker 1: The phrase when you stand praying is key. It's not
- 2:21Speaker 1: if you pray, but when prayer was a given for
- 2:25Speaker 1: Jesus followers often done standing in that culture, and he's
- 2:29Speaker 1: telling them, before you ask God for anything, deal with
- 2:32Speaker 1: what's between you and other people. Let's be real. Forgiveness
- 2:36Speaker 1: is tough. I mean, have you ever tried praying while
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're still mad at someone? It's like trying to lift
- 2:43Speaker 1: weights with a sprained ankle. It just doesn't work right.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Jesus uses this word ought if ye have aught against
- 2:49Speaker 1: any come in the Old English of the KJV, that
- 2:52Speaker 1: means anything big grudges, little annoyances, that coworker who stole
- 2:56Speaker 1: your lunch from the fridge. Jesus doesn't care how small
- 2:59Speaker 1: it is. He's saying, let it go. Why because if
- 3:03Speaker 1: you don't, it's like a clog in the pipeline between
- 3:06Speaker 1: you and God. So what's the backstory behind this? Teaching?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Scholars think Mark eleven is happening around thirty a d
- 3:12Speaker 1: just days before Jesus crucifixion. He's in Jerusalem, knowing what's coming, betrayal, pain,
- 3:17Speaker 1: the weight of the world's sin. And yet here he
- 3:20Speaker 1: is teaching about forgiveness. Think about that, Jesus, who's about
- 3:23Speaker 1: to forgive humanity from the cross, is telling us to forgive.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's not just a random rule. It's the heartbeat of
- 3:29Speaker 1: his mission. The religious leaders he's clashing with, they're plotting
- 3:32Speaker 1: to kill him, the disciples they'll scatter soon. And still
- 3:36Speaker 1: he's pointing to a life of grace. I love how
- 3:38Speaker 1: this ties into the bigger picture of Mark's gospel. Mark's
- 3:42Speaker 1: all about showing Jesus as the servant king, active, powerful,
- 3:46Speaker 1: but humble and forgiveness. That's servant king stuff. It's not weakness,
- 3:51Speaker 1: it's strength. It's Jesus saying, you can't control what others do,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but you can control this. You can choose to release
- 3:59Speaker 1: them and yourself and the payoff that your Father also,
- 4:04Speaker 1: which is in heaven, may forgive you. It's this beautiful,
- 4:07Speaker 1: scary exchange. Our forgiveness unlocks his. Now, let's bring this home.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Today's March thirteenth, twenty twenty five, And maybe you're listening
- 4:16Speaker 1: while sipping coffee or walking the dog. Ask yourself, who's
- 4:19Speaker 1: on your heart right now? Who's that any Jesus is
- 4:22Speaker 1: talking about. Maybe it's a family member who hurt you
- 4:25Speaker 1: years ago, or a friend who ghosted you. Jesus isn't
- 4:28Speaker 1: saying it's easy. He's saying it's essential. And here's the
- 4:32Speaker 1: practical bit. When you pray today, start there, Picture that person,
- 4:36Speaker 1: say their name if you can, and just let it go.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Doesn't mean you have to call them up or pretend
- 4:41Speaker 1: it didn't hurt. It means handing it to God and
- 4:43Speaker 1: trusting him with the rest. Here's the good news. You
- 4:47Speaker 1: don't have to do this alone. The same Jesus who
- 4:49Speaker 1: said this is praying for you right now. Hebrews seven
- 4:52Speaker 1: twenty five says he ever lives to intercede for us.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So take a deep breath, stand in prayer, and forgive.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It's not just a them. It's about setting your own
- 5:01Speaker 1: heart free. And when you do, watch how God moves.
- 5:06Speaker 1: That's our study for today. Mark eleven twenty five. A
- 5:09Speaker 1: little verse with a big call. Thanks for joining me
- 5:12Speaker 1: on this journey through God's word. If this spoke to you,
- 5:15Speaker 1: share it with someone who needs it. Maybe they're carrying
- 5:17Speaker 1: something heavy too. Tomorrow we'll be in a new passage,
- 5:21Speaker 1: so hit subscribe and come back. Until then, keep seeking,
- 5:24Speaker 1: keep praying, and keep forgiving. This is Gil signing off.
- 5:27Speaker 1: God bless you and see you next time.
