- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast called twenty five Whistles talking basketball,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and they'll wear a whistle. So yeah, it's sad, but
- 0:12Speaker 1: what did you expect. It's a podcast called twenty prison
- 0:19Speaker 1: about Draft Kings sports book. Download the Draft King's app
- 0:22Speaker 1: and use the code Bobby sports to get in on
- 0:25Speaker 1: the action. I'm a whistle. It's a sad whistle because
- 0:31Speaker 1: its Eddie's last day. Oh it's a little sad. So sad.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's a sad little whistle there. M. We'll get to
- 0:40Speaker 1: that in a little bit. Like doctor SEUs said, don't
- 0:43Speaker 1: be sad because it's over, be happy because it happened.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Something like that. That's that what he said. Don't know
- 0:48Speaker 1: some crap like that. I just remember Sam, I am
- 0:51Speaker 1: green eggs and ham m. Yeah, let's try not to
- 0:55Speaker 1: be too funny. What No, I'm I'm serious though, I mean,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you know, I get it. You're trying to make a
- 0:59Speaker 1: sad situation. Let's start. Let's go to some things here.
- 1:03Speaker 1: First of all, we'll talking about two basketball games that
- 1:06Speaker 1: happened on Saturday. Because first one was really good, although
- 1:09Speaker 1: it was two teams I really don't care about. So
- 1:11Speaker 1: it was the mix up. Thank god, it was at
- 1:12Speaker 1: least a good game, or I really would have cared
- 1:15Speaker 1: even less. But I tell you, San Diego State was
- 1:18Speaker 1: down double digits. I thought it was over, so did I.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But they have a tendency to sneak back up. Punch
- 1:24Speaker 1: in the mouth. Don't even know how they got back up.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It was just one of those things like wow, how
- 1:28Speaker 1: how is this happening? Yeah, and then he held the
- 1:31Speaker 1: ball on that last shot, and I was like, does
- 1:33Speaker 1: he even see the shock clock? Does he even see
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Why that was amazing for me was I bought
- 1:39Speaker 1: that ticket with Coleman, so if they beat Yukon, we
- 1:45Speaker 1: went thirty five Bucksha. You haven't cashed that out yet.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You can't. It's a paper ticket. Oh oh no, oh no.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I thought there was a chance to cash it out
- 1:57Speaker 1: for at least half of it. No, would you, though
- 2:01Speaker 1: I know you're not a huge cash out game right now.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Seven and a half or so. What I probably would
- 2:07Speaker 1: do is I would cash it out and then take
- 2:09Speaker 1: some and put it back in in a different way
- 2:10Speaker 1: and then have a little bit of it. Okay, But no,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I like where I am. So if you didn't catch
- 2:16Speaker 1: the show last week, Coleman had a ticket pay fifty
- 2:19Speaker 1: bucks to win thirty five hundred and it was right
- 2:21Speaker 1: before this FAU San Diego State games, so they had
- 2:23Speaker 1: to win this one. They had to win. The next
- 2:24Speaker 1: one was gonna be really tough for them. But I
- 2:26Speaker 1: bought in for three hundred bucks, and you guys gave
- 2:29Speaker 1: me crap and so, but mostly because of this game,
- 2:34Speaker 1: not the last game. That's why we gave you crap.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But you wouldn't have known that Yukon was even in.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Like I think we had an idea out of the
- 2:40Speaker 1: four teams that we were better that I got with
- 2:43Speaker 1: Coleman than I would have gotten betting them as a
- 2:45Speaker 1: future with only four teams laugh. Correct, So you were
- 2:49Speaker 1: uneducatedly making fun of me, and I hope I win
- 2:51Speaker 1: because I'm gonna take the money and I'm gonna give
- 2:54Speaker 1: it to you. You will go Aztecks. Yeah, let's go,
- 2:58Speaker 1: Let's go San Diego State. Uh. San Diego State was
- 3:01Speaker 1: down fourteen. They didn't leave to the second half until
- 3:03Speaker 1: the game winning shot. I thought it was over. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: was like, this is stupid. They got down. I changed it,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you did, I changed it. I was watching Arkansas baseball
- 3:14Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm not watching this bull crap.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I knew I waste three hundred dollars. So now if
- 3:18Speaker 1: I get two games of like full entertainment like into it,
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's not worth a hundred fifty bucks each game, but
- 3:24Speaker 1: at least it's a little better than had we lost
- 3:26Speaker 1: that game. San Diego State hit the fifth buzzer beater
- 3:31Speaker 1: of all time in the Final Four, but it was
- 3:32Speaker 1: the only one when a team was trailing at the
- 3:34Speaker 1: time of the shot. I mean, they'd been tied, so
- 3:38Speaker 1: they had to hit it to win it, which far
- 3:40Speaker 1: less pressure. It's like kicking a field goaltend of a game.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Whenever it's tied versus down one or down two or
- 3:46Speaker 1: down three, it's just like, let's see what happens. No
- 3:48Speaker 1: big deal. Yeah, it's like, well, I really can't lose
- 3:51Speaker 1: the game, so that losing pressure is not on you. Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 1: It's like shooting free throws to win a game. You
- 3:56Speaker 1: just gotta make one and you're tied. You know, that's
- 3:59Speaker 1: a lot easier than you got to make both and
- 4:01Speaker 1: you're down even one. But they aren't looking at you
- 4:03Speaker 1: on that line like, oh, come on, man, just make one. Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm like, it's a free throw. How do you miss it, idiot,
- 4:08Speaker 1: no one you put me out there. Oh so it
- 4:14Speaker 1: was a great game between two teams I really don't
- 4:16Speaker 1: care about, and I ended up carying. It is pretty cool.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I can't imagine the ratings were huge. I didn't see
- 4:20Speaker 1: any sort of TV ratings. I didn't look for them.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They don't know. But I can't imagine that FAU is
- 4:25Speaker 1: five of eleven three point line in the first half
- 4:30Speaker 1: and they had held their opponents like five or forty
- 4:32Speaker 1: four shooting behind three point line the whole game. I
- 4:37Speaker 1: don't even know what to say, except let's go a
- 4:39Speaker 1: s DSU. That's all I know. Would say, that's all right.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I don't even really care that much about the championship
- 4:45Speaker 1: game except to have money on it. Yeah, it's so weird.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Other than that, it's because these little teams are in.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It's just weird. Miami and Yukon. I mean, Ukon. This
- 4:52Speaker 1: might be the best run I've ever seen, like in
- 4:54Speaker 1: my last ten fifteen years of watching, or at least
- 4:57Speaker 1: that I can remember. And it might be recency bias,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I don't know, but Ukon is just taking people and
- 5:01Speaker 1: kicking them around the nuts and go into the next game.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It's just like, hello, I'll eat you. Move on. Yeah, yep,
- 5:06Speaker 1: it's been happening all the tournament. That being said, this
- 5:08Speaker 1: one wasn't as bad as the others. This one wasn't
- 5:11Speaker 1: as bad as Gonzaga. This one wasn't as bad as Arkansas.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They beat him seven two fifty nine. But I got
- 5:16Speaker 1: bored early. Oh, I didn't watch the end of the game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: which is weird Final four game and you're gonna walk
- 5:22Speaker 1: off and not watch the end. You're not watching the
- 5:25Speaker 1: game because I said, hey, I need to watch the
- 5:27Speaker 1: second game, although I kind of feel like I know
- 5:28Speaker 1: what's gonna happen, or sometimes I'll be like i'll just
- 5:31Speaker 1: watch the app, but if it's close, i'll go turn
- 5:33Speaker 1: it down. So I'm like, I need to watch this
- 5:35Speaker 1: one because I'm sure we'll talk about it a good
- 5:36Speaker 1: length and we're not gonna talk about a good length.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But I don't know. Twelve minutes in to the first half,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know, getting close to half, I was like, I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: done watching the game is over. Yeah, you can just
- 5:47Speaker 1: tell it was over. Yeah, so you can win SI
- 5:51Speaker 1: or a blue Blood. I'll say it. I said it already.
- 5:53Speaker 1: They should already be in that conversation. But they should
- 5:55Speaker 1: be one of those teams now. They should be considered
- 5:57Speaker 1: a blue blood. Miami's offense shot just thirty two and
- 6:02Speaker 1: you got Miami's they're a shooting team, but their defense
- 6:06Speaker 1: is so good. I mean Isaiah Wong was four for ten,
- 6:11Speaker 1: shooting only at fifteen points. Yeah, I hadn't done that
- 6:13Speaker 1: all tournament. They're so big, and what I like about
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yukon is that there's I can't think of a star
- 6:21Speaker 1: like I know there are like, you know, no, what
- 6:24Speaker 1: do you mean, who's their star that they're um Snog,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I mean he's one of the one of their awesome players.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I just feel like they're all all around good. They're
- 6:33Speaker 1: all good, you know. So that's like Isaiah Wong obviously
- 6:36Speaker 1: he was the one that stood out. Mark Kisnoel stood out,
- 6:39Speaker 1: like a lot of these teams have these like Grady Dicks.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I feel like Snogo is that guy though. Man, they're
- 6:44Speaker 1: all just so good. Though twenty one points, ten rebounds
- 6:46Speaker 1: for Snogo in this game, but he's averaging like twenty
- 6:49Speaker 1: five all tournament. I think around there. I don't know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I feel like Snogo is that guy. But Yukon wins
- 6:56Speaker 1: they will probably run away with it. But let's go
- 7:03Speaker 1: for you. You get that money. Here we go the
- 7:05Speaker 1: big storylines. Yukon is four and oh championship games. That's
- 7:09Speaker 1: pretty good little ratio. They have wins, the losses, all wins,
- 7:12Speaker 1: no losses. It's a pretty good one. Yukon has been
- 7:15Speaker 1: hot from the front court, shooting forty percent. The Aztec's
- 7:18Speaker 1: greatest strength on defense has been their ability to defend
- 7:20Speaker 1: the three. So it's a good little match up there,
- 7:22Speaker 1: ranking third nationally with opponent's only hitting twenty eight percent
- 7:24Speaker 1: on the season. The matchup to watch for. I mean,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Snogo is the guy. If you can't stop Snogo. He's
- 7:32Speaker 1: just so big, not tall, he's a tall guy six
- 7:36Speaker 1: that's not a huge interior presence, but he's so strong
- 7:41Speaker 1: and thick and it sounds like I'm about he to Burger. Yeah. Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 1: thick and hardy. Yes, but man, he's awesome. I hate
- 7:48Speaker 1: him playing him and even though they're other guy he's good. Yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 1: he's a freshman. He block shots. Nobody wants to go in.
- 7:56Speaker 1: What what are you saying, man, I'm saying big dudes.
- 7:58Speaker 1: A lot of big dudes a lot of time on
- 8:00Speaker 1: that team. So no go, I don't even know who
- 8:01Speaker 1: you're talking about. Do you just go that's what I'm saying, man, Yeah, Man,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. San Diego can actually win
- 8:10Speaker 1: it if they let me finish here. I don't think
- 8:15Speaker 1: at times offensively they tend to not put up points
- 8:19Speaker 1: like long droughts. And if they can just consistently or
- 8:25Speaker 1: semi consistently score, and if they can stop Yukon from
- 8:29Speaker 1: behind three point line, I think they have a chance
- 8:31Speaker 1: to keep it close. They can't do one of these
- 8:33Speaker 1: six minutes no points, which they which they've done. If
- 8:37Speaker 1: you'd even longer. Yeah, and Yukon can shoot the eyeballs
- 8:41Speaker 1: out of it three point I mean, it's they're so good.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But that's what they do, is they play that three
- 8:47Speaker 1: D really good. The point the spread was seven and
- 8:49Speaker 1: a half when I looked earlier. I'm not sure what
- 8:51Speaker 1: it is now. Let's check. We were with Matt Stell
- 8:55Speaker 1: last night and I thought it'd be eight. He thought
- 8:57Speaker 1: it'd be seven. It started, it did he probably saw
- 9:02Speaker 1: it didn't lied seven and a half. It is still
- 9:04Speaker 1: seven and a half. I don't want to touch that
- 9:06Speaker 1: game at all. I don't feel good about anything to
- 9:08Speaker 1: do with that. So, speaking of basketball, I did watch
- 9:11Speaker 1: almost all of the LSU Iowa basketball Wow, first time ever. No,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I've been telling you about Kate No. No, no, I
- 9:18Speaker 1: mean the first time ever watching the girl the women's championship. Oh, championship. Yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I've never watched it. No, I've watched parts of it,
- 9:25Speaker 1: like Notre Dame was making her I mean Yukon a bit. Oh.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I remember when they were done Tennessee back in the day.
- 9:33Speaker 1: So I would watch some, okay, but I can't not
- 9:35Speaker 1: in a few years, but I would really was. I
- 9:39Speaker 1: mean I was only trying to watch because of Caitlin
- 9:41Speaker 1: Clark and she'd been crushing. I was showing Eddie clips
- 9:43Speaker 1: a few weeks ago. Amazing. He's like, why are you
- 9:45Speaker 1: watching this? We sent it to men. I'm like, okay, great,
- 9:47Speaker 1: And then I started watching like Dan she's really good.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I mean she's she's you know, coming off screens, not
- 9:52Speaker 1: even seeing the basket, like taking the ball, can't see
- 9:56Speaker 1: the goal in the air, then finds the goal and shoots.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It's like also Curry range when Ice she was about
- 10:04Speaker 1: eight for sixteen or something like that from three point
- 10:07Speaker 1: contested too. I'm not sure what it went off. Maybe
- 10:09Speaker 1: she made seven three pointers. She did set the record,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but that's not even the I mean, she didn't even
- 10:13Speaker 1: the championship, but she was the star of it all.
- 10:16Speaker 1: LSU wins for the first time in history. The LSU
- 10:19Speaker 1: Tigers are national champions in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'll give you twenty seconds the final call. LSU wins
- 10:25Speaker 1: are first ever women's national title. Borris has to get
- 10:29Speaker 1: it across. Kim Monkey in year two has orchestrated our
- 10:36Speaker 1: tunnel down for the ages. LSU has captured. She's dree
- 10:42Speaker 1: first national championship. That's awesome. The LSU players, you know,
- 10:49Speaker 1: they were kind of tawning Caitlyn Clark, which is all
- 10:52Speaker 1: fine during a game. I'm into it. Because Caitlyn Clark
- 10:54Speaker 1: was taunt in the South Carolina that she was like
- 10:56Speaker 1: shoot it, let's go. But they purposefully their game plan
- 10:59Speaker 1: was to try to make South Carolina shooter from three,
- 11:01Speaker 1: so they were like taunting them to shoot it. They're like,
- 11:04Speaker 1: you're not gonna beat this inside. So they did be
- 11:06Speaker 1: number one South Carolina. There was a part where can
- 11:08Speaker 1: Lyclark was like like flicking her off, like shoot it's
- 11:11Speaker 1: in we're not we're not guarding you. So l she
- 11:13Speaker 1: was like, we take that personal. It wasn't about you.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Why are you taking that person? I was talking to
- 11:18Speaker 1: someone else. Yeah, she was flicking off, like flicking somebody
- 11:20Speaker 1: else to shoot it. But the game ends, and I
- 11:24Speaker 1: understand all the trash shot during the game, all that whatever,
- 11:26Speaker 1: But they still wouldn't stop talking about her, like she
- 11:28Speaker 1: owned them individually. They won the national championship, and they're
- 11:31Speaker 1: still going, we're no, we're not a one man team. No, No,
- 11:34Speaker 1: you're the national champions. None of that matters anymore. You're
- 11:36Speaker 1: the champ. Stop pointing about her. Yeah, and you're still talking.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That means she was in your head. Absolutely, she owned them.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I've never seen anyone played that dominantly. Before that being said,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I haven't watched a ton of women's college basketball. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: used to watch yukon Rebecca Lobo, yeah, because she was huge,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but it was Can'la Clark was awesome more than LS Shoe.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I can't await going. I can't wait to watch Iowa
- 11:58Speaker 1: next year at Canla Clark because I was watching her
- 12:01Speaker 1: some this year just because mostly I would see highlights
- 12:04Speaker 1: and then if some of the tournament. I'd flipped it
- 12:05Speaker 1: on and she was just draining. Like I'm talking about
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know that little line, there's three point line and
- 12:10Speaker 1: on the side there's that little stick out line. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: the one that coming out of the side. Yeah, she's there.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I got Alan Houston shooting him on NBA two K
- 12:16Speaker 1: and he didn't even make the from there sometimes and
- 12:18Speaker 1: he's like, I got out. I got him with like
- 12:20Speaker 1: a ninety five on three point shooting gut, he still
- 12:22Speaker 1: can't even make them. She's draining them. So anyway, congrats LSU.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Who cares? But whenever I look at Kilmukee, it's her
- 12:29Speaker 1: second year on the job there, first to ever win it.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So she was at Baylor from twenty to twenty twenty one.
- 12:34Speaker 1: She won the national championship in five, twelve, and nineteen.
- 12:37Speaker 1: She made the final four five times. But she left
- 12:39Speaker 1: Baylor to go to LSU even after all those championships
- 12:43Speaker 1: and all those final fours. And I really expected there
- 12:45Speaker 1: to be some crazy pay difference, like why would you
- 12:49Speaker 1: leave Baylor to go to LSU when you're already winning championships.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's been proven that you have the ability, the resources,
- 12:56Speaker 1: and you've done it. She went from making two point
- 13:00Speaker 1: three million at Baylor to two point six million at LSU.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I just really thought it'd be more than that she
- 13:07Speaker 1: from there or anything like family members. She went to
- 13:10Speaker 1: Louisiana Tech. Okay, maybe that's home. That would be the
- 13:13Speaker 1: only reason I would go TOIA Tech is in Shriveport.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I believe in Baton rou Baton Rouge. So unless she
- 13:19Speaker 1: was from Louisiana herself, which I do not know the
- 13:22Speaker 1: answer to that, that would make more sense if it
- 13:23Speaker 1: was home. I also just thought they'd break her off
- 13:26Speaker 1: a little more than three hundred thousand dollars to get
- 13:28Speaker 1: her to come. She's the third highest paid woman's coach
- 13:31Speaker 1: behind Gino in South Carolina's Don Staley. Where she's from
- 13:35Speaker 1: Santa Ana, California. Okay, not home. She must not like
- 13:39Speaker 1: the way Baylor made their Salisbury steak or something, because
- 13:42Speaker 1: that's that's a that's not a lot to move for.
- 13:45Speaker 1: That's from ESPN. Congratulations in the LSU, but Kaitlin Clark
- 13:47Speaker 1: dominated it. There were six of us standing around last
- 13:49Speaker 1: night talking about the women's basketball game. The referees in
- 13:52Speaker 1: that game, I don't know what they were thinking. They
- 13:54Speaker 1: made it about them in the last six minutes of
- 13:56Speaker 1: the game. I'll go to Caitlyn Clark again. She had
- 13:58Speaker 1: three fouls on her and all of a sudden they
- 14:02Speaker 1: called technical on her and so I'm like, okay, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: the announcers go out. She must say something real bad
- 14:08Speaker 1: because she threw the ball and said something real bad.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Now it was a heated moment and they showed it back.
- 14:12Speaker 1: First of all, she didn't say anything, and second of all,
- 14:15Speaker 1: she took the ball. It was like bouncing to her
- 14:17Speaker 1: after they had called a foul or whatever, like play
- 14:19Speaker 1: was over, and she just took it and it just
- 14:21Speaker 1: bounced her. She caught it and she just kind of
- 14:23Speaker 1: flicked it behind her back. She's like, I don't want
- 14:24Speaker 1: the ball. It did not deserve a tech. It did
- 14:26Speaker 1: not deserve foul number four, which was also a personal foul,
- 14:30Speaker 1: one foul away from fouling out of the game. So
- 14:32Speaker 1: she had to play completely different. Those refs and look
- 14:36Speaker 1: at us, we're talking about this at length. That's what
- 14:38Speaker 1: kat Len Clark. It does with the sport. Those refs
- 14:40Speaker 1: were terrible. The refs made it about the refs at
- 14:45Speaker 1: the end of the game. Yeah, somebody was making a
- 14:47Speaker 1: point last night that you know, like we're finally talking
- 14:49Speaker 1: about women's basketball. Caitlyn Clark, she's the star, she's the
- 14:52Speaker 1: reason we're all watching. Then you're gonna give her a technical? Well,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I get it. If you give her a technical. If
- 14:57Speaker 1: she said I you and your mom would take She
- 15:00Speaker 1: didn't say anything, and she kind of just tossed the
- 15:02Speaker 1: ball behind her back. Was it annoying? Yes, if it's
- 15:06Speaker 1: a regular season game early in the second why not
- 15:09Speaker 1: they played quarters so early in the third quarter? Yeah?
- 15:12Speaker 1: And why do they do that? Why can't they keep
- 15:14Speaker 1: it consistent? Well across the board, they were letting the
- 15:16Speaker 1: coach of LSU like man handle the refs, like swinging
- 15:20Speaker 1: on the reff Yeah, it just wasn't consistent. You're right,
- 15:22Speaker 1: it wasn't consistent, and they didn't I felt that they
- 15:26Speaker 1: didn't need to call that. They probably were just fed
- 15:27Speaker 1: up with her mouth in all game long. But it's fun,
- 15:30Speaker 1: especially as a fan. You don't really I don't know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you never really want women's basketball, and it's like, yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I want to see this exactly. And also they should
- 15:37Speaker 1: know that that's the star of the show and let
- 15:42Speaker 1: people watch the star of the show for as long
- 15:43Speaker 1: as they possibly can. If she hasn't done anything crazy
- 15:48Speaker 1: hurtful because the brand women's college basketball, everybody was benefiting. Again,
- 15:56Speaker 1: if she still had done something that deserved a TECH,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I would have been like, call it on her. She
- 16:01Speaker 1: deserved it, But I just don't feel like she did
- 16:03Speaker 1: it was stupid. Moving on, on Saturday, the NBA announced
- 16:05Speaker 1: their Hall of Fame class for twenty twenty three. So
- 16:08Speaker 1: finally they're announced. Here we go, Dirk, Dwayne, Wade, Popovic,
- 16:12Speaker 1: pagasaw Tony Parker. Those are the ones that we knew.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Here are the other people, Eddie, tell me where all
- 16:17Speaker 1: these people played? Okay, Gane Katy Yeah, Clippers, no idea,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Gene Bess Celtics, no idea. David Hickson, Hawks, Yeah, no idea.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I don't know. Are these old people these not? Did
- 16:32Speaker 1: I please tell me? I mailed one of them like
- 16:34Speaker 1: owners or I don't knows? Well you looked at David
- 16:38Speaker 1: because we not that we should know. But if we're
- 16:42Speaker 1: gonna say the wrong answer, we should at least for
- 16:43Speaker 1: the right We could have just read the names, been
- 16:44Speaker 1: like hey, congratulations, and just everyone knows. I'm just guessing.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I don't know any of these people. Becky Harmon, excuse me,
- 16:49Speaker 1: Becky Hammond, the cass Vegas Spurs. Yeah, Gary Blair, Gary Blair,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I think is that coach of Texas A and M.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know. Look up Gary Blair two the nineties,
- 17:02Speaker 1: nineteen seventy six women's Olympic team and jim Vavano M
- 17:06Speaker 1: which Jimmy V. Yeah finally yeah, Blair was A and M. Yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 1: Blair was a M. Blair was at Arkansas too before that.
- 17:12Speaker 1: That's I know, Gary Blair um. And then Jane keaty announcer.
- 17:17Speaker 1: That's a guess perdue. Oh yeah, coach, that's right. Yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I kind of older guy head like come over, yep,
- 17:24Speaker 1: exactly yeah, big oldhead. Yeah yeah, I don't have to
- 17:27Speaker 1: do a Yeah, I know exactly who that is. I
- 17:31Speaker 1: was an idiot. David Hickson, no idea Clippers right, What
- 17:34Speaker 1: did I say, Boston, David Hickson? Come on, baby, come on,
- 17:38Speaker 1: he's a coach at Amherst. Oh man, okay, Geen, Bess,
- 17:43Speaker 1: look at us. We're learning here. Yeah, I like it.
- 17:46Speaker 1: We'll admit what we don't know, which is most former
- 17:48Speaker 1: coach It says at Missouri. Do you know they're actually
- 17:54Speaker 1: not induct they're not in yet. There's one more round.
- 17:56Speaker 1: There's something gonna be more people know, but listen to this.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Keep going. He said Missouri. It just says Missouri. I'm
- 18:02Speaker 1: seeing three Rivers Community College. Yeah. I used to play
- 18:05Speaker 1: over there to play a couple of seasons. It's a
- 18:06Speaker 1: great school. Yeah, I also know its directly get the why.
- 18:10Speaker 1: To be selected in ductees must receive eighteen of twenty
- 18:12Speaker 1: four votes from the Honors Committee. These players will be
- 18:14Speaker 1: in shrine August twelfth. So did they already get the votes?
- 18:18Speaker 1: I'm tired of talking about this. Yeah, they're okay. Sacramento
- 18:23Speaker 1: Kings are going to the playoffs the first time since
- 18:25Speaker 1: two thousand and six and of the longest playoff drought
- 18:26Speaker 1: in NBA history. Good for them. Well, here's the thing
- 18:29Speaker 1: I was looking at, who would be playing who right now?
- 18:32Speaker 1: And the fact that if the Kings win, they got
- 18:34Speaker 1: to go play Golden State. That would suck. Yeah. What
- 18:38Speaker 1: a year to go in at three when the Warriors
- 18:40Speaker 1: are going in at six and they've been hurt for
- 18:43Speaker 1: a lot of the Year of the Warriors and they're
- 18:44Speaker 1: better than they actually are. Ye, I'm gonna play who's
- 18:47Speaker 1: hurt from the Warriors. Wiggins out, well, Wiggins has been
- 18:49Speaker 1: out for a while for family reasons. Oh really, right,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I don't know about I don't know. I just know
- 18:55Speaker 1: he's out looking see because I you know, I was
- 18:57Speaker 1: watching some of these Paul Peers and stuff. Talk about
- 18:59Speaker 1: it it. But if it says family reasons, I can
- 19:02Speaker 1: give you the situation, the rumor. This probably not exactly not.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I just give it to you. What's to say, Oh no,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm just I'm listening to you. Nuggets
- 19:12Speaker 1: are gonna play the play and win or the eight seed.
- 19:14Speaker 1: The Grizzlies are gonna play the plane winer. Obviously, we'll
- 19:16Speaker 1: talk about it in a second. The Kings and the
- 19:17Speaker 1: Warriors and the Sons and the Clippers. If it all
- 19:19Speaker 1: happened today, the more fair would be the Kings and
- 19:22Speaker 1: the Clippers and the Sons play the Warriors. But there's
- 19:26Speaker 1: still a lot of chuffling to be done. One week left. Yes,
- 19:29Speaker 1: it just says personal yea. So the rumor is, it's
- 19:32Speaker 1: probably not true. I don't know if it's sure or not.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Is that his kid with his girl is not actually
- 19:38Speaker 1: his kid. And that's the rumor because I saw like
- 19:42Speaker 1: Paul Pierce tweet like, tell me this ain't true, and
- 19:45Speaker 1: then immediately I was just like hitting that trying to
- 19:47Speaker 1: find out what he was talking about because he wouldn't
- 19:49Speaker 1: say it, although he was like subtweeting and being vague
- 19:52Speaker 1: with a tweet that everybody else was listing down below
- 19:54Speaker 1: what they thought it was. That's tough. So I would say,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I don't think it's true, but if but if it
- 19:59Speaker 1: is true, you take time off for that. He's been
- 20:02Speaker 1: out since balance, Like I get it. Oh that's that's
- 20:05Speaker 1: a hit, right, Like you're like, oh man, that's I
- 20:07Speaker 1: don't even know if it's true, but if I'm just saying, like,
- 20:09Speaker 1: if it is, I'll go back to playing basketball. You
- 20:11Speaker 1: think we can figure that out. Last that's your kid,
- 20:14Speaker 1: your if you think it's your son or your daughter.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I know someone like that. I know someone that happened too. Yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I do too. Yeah. Stuff. Here are the team's playing
- 20:23Speaker 1: in the playing over in the East to Heat, the Hawks,
- 20:27Speaker 1: the Raptors, and the Bulls over the Western Conference, the Lakers,
- 20:30Speaker 1: the Pelicans, the Timberwolves, and the Thunder. I don't want
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Thunder. I want the Thunder to have a better
- 20:34Speaker 1: draft pick. They're playing really they're really young. They've been
- 20:37Speaker 1: playing really good considering who they have. They don't even
- 20:39Speaker 1: have their first round their number two pick from last season.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Who's chet. Yeah home, I like the Thunder is probably
- 20:45Speaker 1: my favorite team, but I hope they don't win and
- 20:49Speaker 1: move on to the actual playoffs because I'd love for
- 20:50Speaker 1: him to have a better draft pick. Regular season will
- 20:53Speaker 1: end on Sunday, April ninth, So this Sunday playing tournaments
- 20:56Speaker 1: April eleven to fourteenth, and the playoffs start April fifteenth.
- 20:58Speaker 1: The playoffs feel like they're ten years. Yeah, they're forever.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You're like a legit two months. I just saw two
- 21:03Speaker 1: and we'll talk about in a minute. The new collective
- 21:05Speaker 1: barging agreement the NBA mid Season Tournament five hundred thousand
- 21:10Speaker 1: bucks to the winner. On each play each player gets
- 21:12Speaker 1: half million bucks. Wow, that's cool. That'd be cool. Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Eastern Conference right now, Bucks at one, Boston at two,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Philadelphia at three, Calves at four, Nick's Nets, and then
- 21:24Speaker 1: the four playing I mentioned heath Hawks, Raptors and Bulls
- 21:26Speaker 1: for the Plan, Nuggets and grist Still at one and two,
- 21:29Speaker 1: Kings at three, Sons at four. It's a Dangerous four
- 21:32Speaker 1: man Golden State and the Clippers and then playing for
- 21:37Speaker 1: the plans of Pelicans, Lakers, Timberwolves and Okay, see, so
- 21:40Speaker 1: there's that situation. We do have Andy Roddet coming up,
- 21:43Speaker 1: who played in the first ever pickle Fest. Noah, it's fine.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It Grand Slam is definitely not called the Pickles Sam
- 21:51Speaker 1: Pickle Slam. They should have called it Pickle Fest. So
- 21:57Speaker 1: we'll talk to him. And I've kind of been keeping
- 22:00Speaker 1: up with a little bit, and he's, you know, former
- 22:02Speaker 1: world number one, you know when a major was like
- 22:05Speaker 1: top ten for like thirteen years or something. I forget
- 22:08Speaker 1: the actual, but he's taught for it. And then it's
- 22:10Speaker 1: too pickaball and he had been given the pickaball players
- 22:12Speaker 1: a lot of crap. He's like, can't be that hard.
- 22:14Speaker 1: He's like, you're doing what I did, but on a
- 22:16Speaker 1: smaller court with a ball. So it's awesome. We'll talk
- 22:19Speaker 1: to him coming up in just a minute. But I
- 22:21Speaker 1: asked him who he was gonna put, like, who's gonna
- 22:23Speaker 1: win the Masters? We gotta figure out what our parlay
- 22:27Speaker 1: is here. So he picked Scheffler. You'll hear him say
- 22:30Speaker 1: that I like that pick, but he what he is
- 22:33Speaker 1: the defending champ chef. But to win it though, it's
- 22:36Speaker 1: still the odds are a plus seven hundred. Oh yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's so hard to like bet. I don't think I've
- 22:41Speaker 1: ever been on a winner and then had him actually
- 22:43Speaker 1: win pre tournament. Oh I've done that, Sergio Garcia. I
- 22:47Speaker 1: forgot what year it was, but man, that was a
- 22:49Speaker 1: I think he was at plus eight fifty as the winner.
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's that's that's pretty good. Odds y plus seven hundred
- 22:57Speaker 1: for Scheffler. Maybe it was maybe maybe I got him
- 22:59Speaker 1: second round or something. I'm gonna go. Here's I'm gonna do.
- 23:03Speaker 1: We're just gonna throw throw some some crap at this.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Pick somebody top twenty, Eddie, I got you. Go ahead. Um,
- 23:11Speaker 1: let's go top twenty. Um, you want to hear the
- 23:18Speaker 1: top No, no, I already looked at the list, So
- 23:20Speaker 1: let's go. Let's go Justin Thomas. Oh, he's might as
- 23:23Speaker 1: well twenty. Okay, pick somebody top thirty, Kevin, let's go
- 23:32Speaker 1: whoever you want. It could be somebody top five. It's
- 23:35Speaker 1: just hard to pick them. So pick whoever you want.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Jason Day Oh okay, why not? Okay? Why not? I
- 23:41Speaker 1: don't know it's on down there. Okay, Hey, that's your
- 23:44Speaker 1: that's your dark horse. We don't need a dark horse.
- 23:48Speaker 1: The alls are gonna be good. No, I know. I
- 23:49Speaker 1: think anyone you pick thoughts gonna be good. Yes, okay,
- 23:51Speaker 1: So Scheffler, we're going top ten, Justin Thomas, top twenty,
- 23:55Speaker 1: Jason Day top thirty, and I'll go a top forty.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'll take dude. You can go anyone here. I want
- 24:02Speaker 1: to go with Speeth. Oh, come on, Jordan, you know
- 24:06Speaker 1: who I like to and the masters Louis. Okay, we're
- 24:10Speaker 1: just gonna do that. We're gonna do top ten, twenty thirty, forty.
- 24:13Speaker 1: That's cool. I've never done that, I mean honest, and
- 24:14Speaker 1: we just did it here. Let me see, it's plus
- 24:16Speaker 1: four twenty nine, so let's say I do. It's not
- 24:19Speaker 1: a crazy bet. Fifty bucks makes you two sixty four.
- 24:23Speaker 1: So who's our top ten? Scheffler. I'll read it to
- 24:25Speaker 1: you on the spot right here. Glad you asked, buddy,
- 24:27Speaker 1: Thank you, Bettie. I'll crap. I lost it? Would you
- 24:30Speaker 1: delete it? No? I bet it? Oh? All right. Reminder
- 24:33Speaker 1: of the twenty five whistles brought to you by Draft
- 24:35Speaker 1: King Sports Book. Download the raft king Zapp used to
- 24:37Speaker 1: co Bobby Sports to get in on the action. Here's
- 24:39Speaker 1: your parlay. It's a four legger like a dog. Scottie
- 24:46Speaker 1: Scheffler to finish in the top ten. It's the masters.
- 24:48Speaker 1: These are all masters bets. Let's go Justin Tom used
- 24:51Speaker 1: to finish in the top twenty. Let's go Jason Day
- 24:53Speaker 1: to finish in the top thirty. Interesting, what the same
- 24:58Speaker 1: interested Jordan's speeds to finish in the top forty. We
- 25:02Speaker 1: can do that those four as of right now at
- 25:05Speaker 1: plus four twenty nine. If you bet fifty bucks, you
- 25:09Speaker 1: make like two fifty. If you bet twenty you make
- 25:12Speaker 1: one hundred and five. Hey, that sounds like a bunch
- 25:15Speaker 1: of smiles right there. Let's go. I don't use to
- 25:18Speaker 1: bow the whistle during that, but I felt pretty good.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I like it. We didn't want to put Tiger Woods anywhere,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I don't think, so let me see what he's at.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I always like to bet on Tiger to do a
- 25:26Speaker 1: little something. Yeah, I'm gonna bet Tiger just myself. Anyone
- 25:31Speaker 1: would you bet Tiger to make the cut? Yeah? M
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean that's his course. Man. You wouldn't bet him
- 25:38Speaker 1: like top ten? No, no, no, no, No, I would
- 25:41Speaker 1: not know, although there was that one year when he
- 25:44Speaker 1: surprised everyone. I know. Let me look at Tiger after
- 25:47Speaker 1: to finish this. If you want to take the twenty
- 25:48Speaker 1: five whistles parlay, checkut the Drafting Sports Book. New users

- 26:05Speaker 1: watching Full Swing, they're like I root for like Cheffler.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I like them. He's just been crushing. I really do
- 26:12Speaker 1: like him, but it doesn't make me like be a
- 26:15Speaker 1: chef head. Is that the his fan base? I don't
- 26:18Speaker 1: know if that's what I call him? Yeah, like a deadhead? Yeah, dude,
- 26:22Speaker 1: I forgot uh dustin Johnson's plane. I'm curious to see
- 26:26Speaker 1: how these live golfers are gonna like come together with
- 26:28Speaker 1: some of their old PJA buds. Yeah. I almost said
- 26:30Speaker 1: Brookes just because he won past weekend, but I don't
- 26:33Speaker 1: trust him. He won what. I don't trust him, not
- 26:35Speaker 1: steal him? All? Yeah, he won the tournament over the weekend.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Is that? Is that a big deal? Just he's the
- 26:39Speaker 1: first one to win a couple of them? Wow? Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 1: the first two time winner. Right, okay, yeah, but they're
- 26:44Speaker 1: playing like four guys. Right. I watched a little bit
- 26:47Speaker 1: of it. It's kind of weird to watch. And where
- 26:49Speaker 1: did you watch that at? Hope? No? Like what channel? Oh?
- 26:52Speaker 1: Umsually have a network deal? Wow? Wow? All right, Tiger Woods.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I want to pick Tiger to finish in the top ten.
- 27:00Speaker 1: He's a plus five to fifty top ten, five fifty
- 27:04Speaker 1: and I'm gonna go fifty bucks. That's my whole month.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It's more than my whole month. No, you've made some
- 27:13Speaker 1: money playing basketball on NBA. Oh I did? You made
- 27:17Speaker 1: thirty bucks so far? I'm talking about you. Gotta play
- 27:19Speaker 1: me today. I think that's my cap. I think I'm
- 27:21Speaker 1: done with you today. Okay, Tiger Woods to win it all?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Do you want that? No? I mean you you can
- 27:28Speaker 1: bet it or you can just give me the money.
- 27:31Speaker 1: How much I'm gonna bet eighteen dollars for twelve hundred?
- 27:34Speaker 1: I like it? And then cool? What else was I
- 27:37Speaker 1: doing with Tiger top ten. Yeah, I look at that later.
- 27:42Speaker 1: And other news the NBA in the National Basketball Players
- 27:45Speaker 1: Association or agreeing on a new seven year collective bargaining agreement. Basically,
- 27:49Speaker 1: here we go. Players must play sixty five games to
- 27:51Speaker 1: get awards All NBA, MVP, et cetera. See there's there's
- 27:55Speaker 1: a limit. The all NBA teams are now position less,
- 27:58Speaker 1: which I think is good because if they're only five
- 28:01Speaker 1: good centers but there are forty great guards, you shouldn't
- 28:07Speaker 1: have the second team center to be somebody who wouldn't
- 28:08Speaker 1: have been a top fifty player of the NBA. So
- 28:11Speaker 1: I like that. It's position let's basically it's just the
- 28:13Speaker 1: five best players. So the first team is just the
- 28:15Speaker 1: five best players. Yep, the end. So now you can
- 28:18Speaker 1: have like MBIID and yoga. Yes, the n season tournament
- 28:22Speaker 1: could arrive as soon as next season. Each team will
- 28:24Speaker 1: play a number of pool play games that determines the
- 28:27Speaker 1: eight teams that advanced to a single elimination tournament. The
- 28:29Speaker 1: pool play games start in November, the final four in December.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Each player on the winning team wins half a million dollars. Wow,
- 28:36Speaker 1: that's cool. I like tournaments. Too. I love them and
- 28:40Speaker 1: all the sports you get a little board mid season,
- 28:42Speaker 1: except for NFL Baseball you get a little board. Basketball,
- 28:44Speaker 1: you get a little board. Just because there's so many
- 28:47Speaker 1: games the NFL. The games matter more because they're only
- 28:49Speaker 1: seventeen now, So that's cool. Tiger Woods practices at Augusta.
- 28:54Speaker 1: As Masters Week begins. Here you go Scottie Scheffler US
- 29:00Speaker 1: seven hundred if you want him to win it. I
- 29:03Speaker 1: think that's just the back to back Rory plus seven hundred.
- 29:07Speaker 1: They're they're the leaders. Yeah, they're the best odds John
- 29:11Speaker 1: ram Not plus nine hundred, Speed plus sixteen hundred, Justin
- 29:14Speaker 1: Thomas Cameron Smith, Morikawa plus twenty five hundred. Now, if
- 29:19Speaker 1: you finished first, you went two point seven million dollars
- 29:21Speaker 1: in the tournament. Wow, that's nice. If you finished ninth,
- 29:25Speaker 1: you win four hundred and thirty five thousand, we'll take that.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Tenth you went four hundred and five thousand. Cool. So
- 29:30Speaker 1: that's that's the money you're dealing with there. You still
- 29:32Speaker 1: make pretty much half million bucks top ten finish. It's
- 29:34Speaker 1: pretty good. Your last five Masters winners, Eddie, can you
- 29:37Speaker 1: name them? Go? Last year? No, Scheffler, good, Rory Nope,
- 29:42Speaker 1: justin Nope. Oh, Matsuyama, that's one before Sheffler twenty twenty one.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Good job, who's before that? Live Golfer? Brooks, Dustin Johnson, Oh,
- 29:54Speaker 1: DJ nineteen Brooks, Kaca Tiger dang it. Oh that was
- 29:58Speaker 1: a crazy one. Eighteen Brooks, Patrick Reed. Brooks's coming up
- 30:03Speaker 1: at some point, right, she did the whole time. Patrick
- 30:06Speaker 1: Reed's hilarious. He is hilarious. Lamar Jackson. Let's talk about
- 30:11Speaker 1: this now. The report is I mean he may never
- 30:13Speaker 1: play in the NFL again. Why that's it's so stupid.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, guys, stop, they're getting desperate with these stories. Now,
- 30:21Speaker 1: Mike Florio, here we go. He says there's a possibility
- 30:24Speaker 1: that Jackson will be willing to sign with the Baltimore Ravens.
- 30:27Speaker 1: If he opts to continue to hold out, he could
- 30:30Speaker 1: miss the twenty twenty three and even twenty twenty four
- 30:32Speaker 1: season if that happens. If that happens, then we may
- 30:36Speaker 1: have seen the last of Jackson in the NFL. Pro
- 30:38Speaker 1: Football Talk has that story he's gonna play next year.
- 30:43Speaker 1: If he doesn't play next year, which he will, he'll
- 30:44Speaker 1: play in twenty twenty four. The Ravens also aren't gonna
- 30:48Speaker 1: let that just go for nothing either. If it ever
- 30:50Speaker 1: gets to the point where he's just not not not
- 30:51Speaker 1: gonna play, they'll figure something out and get something for him.
- 30:55Speaker 1: H Eddie, whore you thinking here? No Tiger for you, buddy,
- 30:59Speaker 1: No Tiger, No Tiger for me. I mean, it's it's hard.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It's hard to see Tiger. Like, I love watching it.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'll watch the Masters. I think they usually have a
- 31:08Speaker 1: stream for like featured groups or whatever, and the Tiger
- 31:11Speaker 1: one's always live online or whatever channel, and so I
- 31:15Speaker 1: love watching Tiger, but I mean sometimes it's just painful, man. Yeah,
- 31:19Speaker 1: especially when his leg was hurting a real bad and
- 31:21Speaker 1: he still maybe hurting, but he's like struggling to walk
- 31:24Speaker 1: the course stuff. You have him a cart? Yeah yeah, right, yeah,
- 31:28Speaker 1: I mean we're still gonna watch to watch him, So
- 31:30Speaker 1: put him in a cart? Do you have on my cart?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Is there not a medical exemption role at all? For
- 31:35Speaker 1: I've never seen ever. I remember John Daley got in
- 31:39Speaker 1: trouble for writing a cart or something, but he was
- 31:42Speaker 1: just like, I'm gonna write it because I can't really walk. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 1: he had something, he had something wrong with his leg
- 31:48Speaker 1: or whatever. I just would think there would be some
- 31:50Speaker 1: sort of thing, and I'm sure Tiger wouldn't want to
- 31:51Speaker 1: do it, but I would feel like there would be
- 31:54Speaker 1: some sort what if you were a professional golfer but
- 31:56Speaker 1: you had some sort of handicap, Like, don't you think
- 31:59Speaker 1: they would create a rule that people could play What
- 32:01Speaker 1: do you have you have to apply for a special
- 32:03Speaker 1: exemption with a PGA tour to actually get one and
- 32:06Speaker 1: use it during a major tournament, I'd apply. It's like
- 32:08Speaker 1: a serface dog. Everybody's got a serface dog, even though
- 32:10Speaker 1: dying a real dog would emotional dog. Yeah, four dog,
- 32:14Speaker 1: I'd apply immediately. I feel like they would give Tiger
- 32:16Speaker 1: that pass. He wouldn't want it, though. I think they'd
- 32:19Speaker 1: be a hymn thing. It's true, Yeah, and if you
- 32:21Speaker 1: want it would account, yeah, you know, like if you
- 32:24Speaker 1: want the tournament, if you want the Masters or the
- 32:26Speaker 1: golf car, it would count. But yes, I see your point,
- 32:28Speaker 1: because that's not how the Golden Bear did it right exactly.
- 32:31Speaker 1: And there was a funny picture of I think it
- 32:34Speaker 1: was like Rory and somebody else and they were standing
- 32:36Speaker 1: beside each other now, but back in the day it
- 32:38Speaker 1: was an old picture from like the sixties. It was
- 32:40Speaker 1: Jack Nicholas and Arld Palmer and Nicholas apparmerre smoking cigarettes.
- 32:42Speaker 1: They were playing golf and Rory and somebody else beating bananas.
- 32:44Speaker 1: They're like, time sure have changed with dollars, that's so true.
- 32:48Speaker 1: All eyes are on Augusta, Georgia, for golf's first major.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Joined the action for a shot at winning Big Draft

- 33:00Speaker 1: win an Augusta. I'm so jealous. I got a friend
- 33:03Speaker 1: that's been rector. He didn't come to my birthday because
- 33:06Speaker 1: he's going down to Augusta. And so I was like,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're going down because they'll go down and play music
- 33:11Speaker 1: at some of these private parties because everybody's there, and
- 33:13Speaker 1: it's where Jake Owen's going a couple of times during
- 33:15Speaker 1: the week, and so I was like, what's up, because
- 33:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna play golf in Augusta. We're not playing their
- 33:19Speaker 1: actual course, playing a different course in august to it's
- 33:22Speaker 1: real nice today Monday. And then he's I'm gonna go
- 33:26Speaker 1: watch a couple practice rounds and then I guess, I
- 33:29Speaker 1: don't know play golf. Also, that's cool. Maybe not there,
- 33:32Speaker 1: but be there all day while the pros are playing
- 33:34Speaker 1: their practice rounds. That's super cool. You've been though, right,
- 33:37Speaker 1: you've been the Master's awesome. Have you ever played Augusta
- 33:40Speaker 1: or No, I've been invited. I got gifted for my
- 33:43Speaker 1: birthday around at Augusta last year from my agency and
- 33:48Speaker 1: the night fired. My agent should have kept him just
- 33:51Speaker 1: for that. Yeah another week. Wait, but you can't go
- 33:54Speaker 1: back and remember that birthday gift. I don't think so.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I think part of it was I was a good
- 33:59Speaker 1: soldier for the agency a couple of years. I'll forget.

- 34:41Speaker 1: can we get them to add our master's parlay as
- 34:44Speaker 1: a button? I can check on that, just because we're
- 34:48Speaker 1: listening out four different things and it's top ten, top twenty,
- 34:50Speaker 1: top thirty, top forty. We got pretty creative with our
- 34:53Speaker 1: you know, betting situation. Can they add us so we
- 34:58Speaker 1: can just send our listeners there easily. I don't see
- 35:00Speaker 1: why not. Let me send him a note right now,
- 35:02Speaker 1: Thank you very much. That'd be awesome. And now let's
- 35:05Speaker 1: go over to my friend and yours, mister pickleball himself.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I'll pickle all the time, Andy Roddick, Are you sore
- 35:13Speaker 1: after a pickaball tournament? My knee is sore. The recipe
- 35:17Speaker 1: is not sore. My knee is a bit of a problem,
- 35:19Speaker 1: did you and so Andy had revealed to me, which
- 35:21Speaker 1: I'll be honest. I looked if I could bet on
- 35:23Speaker 1: pickaball tournament. I couldn't find any line. Oh, because I
- 35:25Speaker 1: was going to bet against Andy because he told me
- 35:27Speaker 1: he had a knee injury. That's rude. Well, I had
- 35:31Speaker 1: inside and information, it felt like. And so the end,
- 35:35Speaker 1: well do the end? First is that do you split
- 35:37Speaker 1: the million? Did you an Agassi split the million bucks? Yeah?
- 35:41Speaker 1: We were, We were a team, so we were going
- 35:42Speaker 1: up to the same goal. So yes, okay, because when
- 35:45Speaker 1: I was watching there were you played Michael Chang and
- 35:48Speaker 1: you beat him. Yeah, and then Agassi beat McEnroe, and
- 35:52Speaker 1: then you and oh AGAs he lost to Macnrow. Yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 1: he lost to Macro first, and then the beat Chang,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and then we played Thanks for watching, Bobby. No, No,
- 36:01Speaker 1: here's what happened. The truth is, I said, what time
- 36:03Speaker 1: do you play? He said noon. I put it on
- 36:04Speaker 1: at noon. Guess what it ain't on. It's eastern he
- 36:07Speaker 1: told me. So here I go at an hour into
- 36:09Speaker 1: it and I missed the whole first hour. So not fair.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I was given bad information. Well, I meant, listen if
- 36:17Speaker 1: you all times like generally are given in Eastern I wasn't.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I didn't like find your iPhone to give you the
- 36:23Speaker 1: correct time based on where you were. You aren't the
- 36:25Speaker 1: National Weather Service. You give the time based on where
- 36:29Speaker 1: the person's watching. It doesn't matter. I still watch it
- 36:31Speaker 1: on YouTube. I went back and watch it all. Um So,
- 36:35Speaker 1: did they encourage you guys to like be your old selves?
- 36:38Speaker 1: You know, because you would see macen Roe yelling at
- 36:42Speaker 1: crap And do they tell you to do like obnoxious
- 36:44Speaker 1: stuff just for fun? No, I don't. I don't think so.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I mean, I don't listen. We understood that it's not
- 36:49Speaker 1: the funnels of Wimbledon. Right we're on you know where
- 36:52Speaker 1: it's a bit of a bit of a train wreck potentially.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Um So, I feel like mcnron knows the drill at
- 36:59Speaker 1: this point. He would tell you that he probably got
- 37:02Speaker 1: fined for his behavior negatively when he played tennis, and
- 37:05Speaker 1: now he gets fined if he doesn't behave negatively. So
- 37:08Speaker 1: they want show. I think I think you understand the game. Now.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Why are pickleball people so hard on you? In general?
- 37:14Speaker 1: Like pickleball Twitter, it goes at you pretty hard. Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: I kind of because I said it's like tennis with
- 37:19Speaker 1: no speed learning curve, uh, you know, fitness required. That
- 37:24Speaker 1: was about that was about eight months ago. And then
- 37:27Speaker 1: I mean I get it. And then we're playing this event,
- 37:29Speaker 1: you know, kind of the first time it's been pickleballs
- 37:32Speaker 1: have been to a national audience, and I think mcnar
- 37:34Speaker 1: said pickleball sucks, and so like, I get the I
- 37:37Speaker 1: get the pushback, like we're on kind of playing the
- 37:40Speaker 1: game for some cash that we've been kind of ripping
- 37:42Speaker 1: on for a year. And did you feel like you
- 37:44Speaker 1: took to it pretty quick to where you could automatically
- 37:46Speaker 1: be I'm not gonna say a champion, but super competitive
- 37:49Speaker 1: even with the best players. Yeah, I think so. I
- 37:52Speaker 1: mean I listen, most of the pros are and this
- 37:56Speaker 1: isn't like me being um me mean or anything. This
- 38:00Speaker 1: is just actual Most of the pro pickleball players now
- 38:04Speaker 1: are people that weren't good in the tennis um and
- 38:06Speaker 1: they kind of musitioned over. But no, that's not that's
- 38:12Speaker 1: not like that's not like an opinion. That's actually like
- 38:14Speaker 1: like a fact. Right. It's not as if it's not
- 38:16Speaker 1: as if someone who was twenty four ten in the
- 38:19Speaker 1: world in tennis, and it's like I'm going to take
- 38:20Speaker 1: a pass on this and go play pick the ball instead.
- 38:22Speaker 1: That that that hasn't been a realistic event yet. So
- 38:27Speaker 1: all the way, I think a lot of the stuff
- 38:28Speaker 1: from tennis transitions pretty easily. Now. I will say, going,
- 38:32Speaker 1: you can get very good, very quickly. But then you know,
- 38:35Speaker 1: playing against the pros, I've played against some of them,
- 38:38Speaker 1: they chop you up very quickly now because there's like
- 38:42Speaker 1: you don't know the pro shots to play in the selections,
- 38:44Speaker 1: and what works against your neighbor Fred doesn't work against
- 38:47Speaker 1: the pros. So um, it's been a it's been a
- 38:50Speaker 1: really fun learning curve, like I've I've enjoyed it way
- 38:53Speaker 1: more than I thought I would. What I heard is
- 38:55Speaker 1: pro pickaball players are basically high school football coaches, right
- 38:58Speaker 1: that that at one point, you know, they weren't quite
- 39:01Speaker 1: good enough to make it, so they did the other thing.
- 39:04Speaker 1: So well, hey, listen, credit credit credit to them. You
- 39:07Speaker 1: know they can if they can carve out their own LA,
- 39:11Speaker 1: more power to I hope they at least realize the
- 39:14Speaker 1: benefit of our kind of circus act on ESPN, which
- 39:17Speaker 1: was awesome, Like I really love doing it. Hopefully they
- 39:19Speaker 1: can realize that maybe there are some new years, maybe
- 39:22Speaker 1: there are some new participants that we maybe we added
- 39:25Speaker 1: some value as well. So Andy messaged me weeks ago
- 39:29Speaker 1: and he says, hey, do you ever play poockleball? I
- 39:30Speaker 1: just thought maybe he'd picked it up in his neighborhood.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I don't know, and I say yeah. He said, are
- 39:34Speaker 1: you any good? I said, I play against some guys
- 39:37Speaker 1: here that are good, but I'm competitive, but I wouldn't
- 39:39Speaker 1: say it that I'm really good because I've only played
- 39:40Speaker 1: for six months or so. And I was like, why,
- 39:43Speaker 1: He goes, I'm playing a turrent for a million bucks
- 39:44Speaker 1: and just started I started learning. I'm like, wait, what,
- 39:47Speaker 1: So apparently you signed a deal and then started practicing
- 39:49Speaker 1: after that? Yeah, we signed. I want to say we
- 39:52Speaker 1: signed the deal. I'll get it wrong. It's like ten
- 39:54Speaker 1: weeks or three months ago. I'd played once before that
- 39:58Speaker 1: in two thousand and sixteen. Um, And so then we
- 40:03Speaker 1: just started kind of kind of started playing first with
- 40:05Speaker 1: like my buddies who played, and then it was kind
- 40:08Speaker 1: of sourcing games and trying to play people in town
- 40:11Speaker 1: that that played well. And then you know, like my
- 40:15Speaker 1: most fun day I think from this entire experience was
- 40:18Speaker 1: agasy and I ended up being in La on the
- 40:20Speaker 1: same day and there was this really apparently this high
- 40:23Speaker 1: level pickup game that always happens at the same place
- 40:25Speaker 1: on Saturdays, and so it was two weeks ago Andre
- 40:29Speaker 1: and I roll up on this pickle game and started
- 40:31Speaker 1: kind of getting into it and it was so much fun.
- 40:33Speaker 1: So it was awesome. Is it like if you know
- 40:37Speaker 1: Iverson pulls up to a pickup basketball game where they
- 40:39Speaker 1: automatic that doesn't matter who's playing, like they step off
- 40:41Speaker 1: to what Iverson in the game. But how it was
- 40:42Speaker 1: when you guys pulled up and did they know you
- 40:44Speaker 1: were coming? Yeah? So we we had asked them, been
- 40:47Speaker 1: invited by the people the person that I don't know
- 40:49Speaker 1: that everyone knew we were coming, but I think some
- 40:51Speaker 1: people did. Um No, I think it was the opposite.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I think it's like, you know, I've been talking a
- 40:56Speaker 1: fair amount of stress from about pickles, So we're gonna
- 40:59Speaker 1: kind of show these guys, uh, you know, how much
- 41:02Speaker 1: they don't know and how did they do against you?
- 41:04Speaker 1: Did they show you how much you don't know? It's
- 41:07Speaker 1: weird and it works and the levels like they like
- 41:09Speaker 1: you learned something, right, people look better than you, but
- 41:11Speaker 1: then you figure it out very quickly. Right, so you
- 41:14Speaker 1: take your beating for fifteen twenty minutes until you figure
- 41:17Speaker 1: it out, and then you kind of get to neutral ground.
- 41:19Speaker 1: But it was almost like you had to you had
- 41:22Speaker 1: to get your teeth kicked in a couple of times
- 41:23Speaker 1: to kind of figure out how to go about it.
- 41:27Speaker 1: So this is another annoying to me thing but great
- 41:30Speaker 1: for him thing about being a professional athlete and being
- 41:32Speaker 1: friends with Andy. I remember when Andy picked up golf.
- 41:35Speaker 1: He was like, yeah, this is this is like two
- 41:36Speaker 1: weeks it got real tough, and all of a sudden
- 41:37Speaker 1: I was a three handicap and I'm like, just like,
- 41:39Speaker 1: that's not how golf's supposed to work. Like you're a
- 41:41Speaker 1: professional athlete with crazy body control of hand eye coordination,
- 41:44Speaker 1: like howay pickle? I'm still learning crap. And he's like,
- 41:46Speaker 1: you know, we played with the pros and six minutes
- 41:48Speaker 1: later I was beating him, but I took my lumps.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I did. That's what it feels like, though, because you
- 41:54Speaker 1: went in and what did you What were we able
- 41:57Speaker 1: to translate from tennis? Was it angles? Is that automatic?
- 42:00Speaker 1: With you went on a smaller court now, the angles,
- 42:04Speaker 1: the pacing is tough because it's like in tennis. Andrea
- 42:07Speaker 1: put it great. He said, you're kind of patient, patient, patient,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and then when the opportunity presents itself, you go hard,
- 42:14Speaker 1: right like you you you once you kind of sense
- 42:16Speaker 1: blood the water, you go hard an attack and pickaballs
- 42:20Speaker 1: is weird where it's like you're freaking out to get
- 42:21Speaker 1: into position and then you have to calm down all
- 42:23Speaker 1: of a sudden, So it's it's it's kind of counter counterintuitive.
- 42:27Speaker 1: But I think the main advantage that the tennis players
- 42:30Speaker 1: have when they go into pickaball is the pace of
- 42:33Speaker 1: shot doesn't affect us at all. Right, It's not as
- 42:36Speaker 1: if someone hits it hard and we haven't seen that
- 42:38Speaker 1: feed before. It's the softer things than kind of like
- 42:41Speaker 1: when you have to keep it down, when you're instinct
- 42:44Speaker 1: is to go hard. That that's probably the toughest thing
- 42:47Speaker 1: to learn. Do you feel like that flame burning again
- 42:50Speaker 1: to go and compete? Obviously you're not going to compete
- 42:52Speaker 1: on No, we don't laugh, because you are a competitive,
- 42:54Speaker 1: fiery person. Did it make you a little bit go?
- 42:56Speaker 1: I want to actually take this on and see if
- 42:58Speaker 1: I can win this at a high level. No, no, no, no, no.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I so I loved it. I had like when we
- 43:06Speaker 1: played that event, it was it's so much fun. I
- 43:09Speaker 1: haven't had that much fun doing something competitively in a long, long,
- 43:13Speaker 1: long long time. Like we all all four of us
- 43:15Speaker 1: walked off and like that was an absolute blast. But
- 43:19Speaker 1: to like go play somewhere for you know, the prize
- 43:24Speaker 1: money they're playing for and kind of up end my
- 43:26Speaker 1: life to know, what about an occasional pro tournament. Would
- 43:29Speaker 1: you get in one of those if it was close? No,
- 43:32Speaker 1: because that's I don't think so. No, No, because I
- 43:35Speaker 1: would I would like like similar to you, I don't
- 43:38Speaker 1: know that I would commit to doing something. I would
- 43:40Speaker 1: become obsessed with it. I all of a sudden life
- 43:44Speaker 1: up end my life because I'd entered a pro fockleball
- 43:46Speaker 1: tournament and wanted to be good at it. Have an
- 43:48Speaker 1: ego about him. So there's just it's kind of like
- 43:50Speaker 1: knowing your personal weaknesses. I would not do that. Eddie
- 43:53Speaker 1: won't really play poockleball yet. No, I haven't done it yet.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I mean it looks cool, it looks like Danny, looks
- 43:57Speaker 1: like something I could do because it's way smaller like
- 44:00Speaker 1: a regular tennis court. I can't run that far and
- 44:02Speaker 1: like do it for that long. But this I think
- 44:04Speaker 1: I can do. But how different is it? Like, because
- 44:06Speaker 1: you're not putting top spin on this thing? Are you? No?
- 44:10Speaker 1: But Eddie, you've been you've been. I mean you've been
- 44:12Speaker 1: working out hard recently, right, that's right. Credit. Why does
- 44:15Speaker 1: he sound like sarcastic about that? No? Credit? He lives sarcastic,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Like his tone always a sarcastic even if he's not.
- 44:22Speaker 1: It's hard to differentiate. Go ahead, No, there's there's no
- 44:28Speaker 1: top spin. You can't create you you can't really create spin, right,
- 44:33Speaker 1: it's not it's so that's it's a little bit different.
- 44:35Speaker 1: But that's what kind of makes it easier to learn,
- 44:36Speaker 1: because the ball is not jumping around everywhere. Uh, it's
- 44:40Speaker 1: everything is kind of more more muted in a little
- 44:42Speaker 1: bit a little bit slower. What did you do to
- 44:44Speaker 1: your knee? And did you tell them before you played
- 44:46Speaker 1: or did you keep it quiet till after? No? I
- 44:49Speaker 1: mean we're all together because this thing is, you know,
- 44:51Speaker 1: we're doing promo together and we had to play a
- 44:53Speaker 1: little thing the day before, um, so that they knew
- 44:56Speaker 1: that I wasn't perfect, and I had a kind of
- 44:58Speaker 1: a brace on. So, um, I think I'm getting in
- 45:01Speaker 1: him right this week, I think I have. I think
- 45:03Speaker 1: I've tore him anisca. It's kind of a general consensus,
- 45:06Speaker 1: so we'll see if I have to have surgery or not.
- 45:08Speaker 1: But I mean, they knew, but they also knew I
- 45:11Speaker 1: was going to take like a bunch of pain pills
- 45:12Speaker 1: and probably be okay for the match. Do you play
- 45:16Speaker 1: any tennis at all? Ever? Not? Really? No, I think
- 45:20Speaker 1: I've played in the last six months. I don't know
- 45:23Speaker 1: that I've played. How fast do you think you can
- 45:26Speaker 1: hit it right now? One twenty six? Why that number specifically,
- 45:31Speaker 1: because that's about what I've clucked in on when I've
- 45:33Speaker 1: kind of done out there and played these uh you know,
- 45:36Speaker 1: exo events or whatever. The differences now though it's not
- 45:39Speaker 1: almost like the pace. I can't hit it as hard
- 45:42Speaker 1: as I could, but I can't get the ball to
- 45:43Speaker 1: move anymore, right. So it'd be like if Mariano Rivera
- 45:47Speaker 1: went out and threw a ball. Now, he could probably
- 45:50Speaker 1: throw it, you know, close to ninety, but he wouldn't
- 45:53Speaker 1: get that movement that he used to get. And so
- 45:56Speaker 1: it's just kind of like a sitting duck when I play. Now,
- 45:58Speaker 1: what do you do to you know, stayed somewhat active
- 46:02Speaker 1: mostly naps. Yeah, yeah, like I'll switch positions during that's good. Sometimes.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Do you ever get bored being retired? I think I
- 46:11Speaker 1: would just go crazy. Well no, I mean just because
- 46:14Speaker 1: you're retired from one thing doesn't mean you've retired from
- 46:16Speaker 1: all things. Um, I still I still work hard. I
- 46:19Speaker 1: still you know, I'm doing work every day. It's just
- 46:22Speaker 1: not uh physical, Like I'll start like like companies type thing,
- 46:28Speaker 1: like you're thinking, you're think in man's work. Yeah yeah,
- 46:31Speaker 1: I mean I've co found a number of companies in work.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I mean a foundation that you and Eddie have been
- 46:36Speaker 1: so generous too over the years. So every every day
- 46:39Speaker 1: is kind of full of work, but it's not it's
- 46:42Speaker 1: weird for me to kind of go back with this
- 46:44Speaker 1: pickleball thing to do something that's actually front facing, because
- 46:46Speaker 1: most most of what I do now is is is
- 46:48Speaker 1: kind of in the shadows. How old's Michael Chang? Now,
- 46:52Speaker 1: I don't want the French open, I'm not, I'm not.
- 46:54Speaker 1: I don't want to put Eddie on the spot with map.
- 46:56Speaker 1: But he was seventeen in nineteen eighty nine, so probably yeah. Yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And how was we're able to just move them all
- 47:04Speaker 1: around the court, Like did you feel like at will
- 47:05Speaker 1: since he was a lot older than you, you just
- 47:07Speaker 1: move them around? Honestly, was the first time I had
- 47:11Speaker 1: ever played singles in pickleball? Was like when we did it? Um,
- 47:17Speaker 1: So I really didn't I really didn't know what to expect. Um.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I think serve was a little bit better. I think
- 47:22Speaker 1: his serve was not great. Um. So I was able
- 47:24Speaker 1: to kind of get bored a little bit. I will
- 47:27Speaker 1: kind of end on this, and We've got a couple
- 47:28Speaker 1: more things. But I texted Andy last night. I said, hey,
- 47:30Speaker 1: when you get a crazy pickleball endorsement, let me know
- 47:33Speaker 1: because I'm gonna take some gear because back in the day,
- 47:36Speaker 1: I don't know, fifteen years ago when and he was
- 47:39Speaker 1: playing tennis, and I'll be like, what you got? And
- 47:41Speaker 1: he would coote me up with all the best tennis stuff.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I was terrible, but I had the best brackets, the
- 47:45Speaker 1: best shoes, I had everything to look cost. I mean,
- 47:47Speaker 1: I had like ten thousand dollars and just stuff. And
- 47:49Speaker 1: I was the worst. So I'd show up to play
- 47:51Speaker 1: and they'd be like, this guy must be legit. I
- 47:53Speaker 1: couldn't even get over the net right, and so I
- 47:55Speaker 1: had up. I said, hey, let me know when he goes,
- 47:57Speaker 1: I've already got to deal. What do you want, I'll
- 47:58Speaker 1: send it over to you. So so everybody in the room,
- 48:01Speaker 1: nothing free for you, but I got free pick. Thank you. No,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'll see Eddie. Eddie seems like he's on the verge
- 48:09Speaker 1: of trying it out. So we'll we'll we'll send We'll
- 48:11Speaker 1: send some stuff for everyone. Eddie. We'll take anything free, absolutely, Eddie.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think I bought anything in like
- 48:16Speaker 1: ten years. I think you've become an Arkansas fan only
- 48:21Speaker 1: for the free peat that is it, and hats and everything.
- 48:25Speaker 1: I was gonna win the Masters. Oh gosh. Um, let's
- 48:30Speaker 1: see at this point, I hope McIlroy does. Um. But
- 48:35Speaker 1: I think Scheffler, I actually think we might see a
- 48:37Speaker 1: repeat champion for the first time. And in a minute,
- 48:40Speaker 1: did you watch Full Swing at all on Netflix? I
- 48:44Speaker 1: haven't watched it. No, I uh, the Full Swing came out.
- 48:47Speaker 1: There was a tennis one that came out also. Um.
- 48:50Speaker 1: But I'm a huge golf fand but I don't know.
- 48:52Speaker 1: I read the I think those shows are more kind
- 48:56Speaker 1: of like a startup course for someone that's not a
- 48:59Speaker 1: fan of that given right. Like the F one was
- 49:02Speaker 1: awesome for me because I knew nothing about F one,
- 49:05Speaker 1: but I was kind of bored watching the tennis one
- 49:08Speaker 1: back because it's something that I that I followed closely.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I think what I liked about Full Swing was I
- 49:12Speaker 1: didn't know really these people at all. And Scottie s Sheffler,
- 49:14Speaker 1: although I would see him win until you see that
- 49:17Speaker 1: he never won and they kind of pull it all
- 49:19Speaker 1: out calendar wise. He never never boom went and then
- 49:22Speaker 1: he just kept winning like I didn't know it was
- 49:24Speaker 1: with that intensity until I watched Full Swing. I like it,
- 49:27Speaker 1: but yes, they do break it down and they go, Now,
- 49:29Speaker 1: if you get it in four on four, that would
- 49:30Speaker 1: be called a par stay it with me, kids, par. Yes. So, okay,
- 49:35Speaker 1: we're putting Scheffler in our our deal today. That's his pick,
- 49:39Speaker 1: Scotti Sheffler. We're gonna put him down all right. Hey,
- 49:41Speaker 1: congratulations on the money. Congratulations on I guess not having
- 49:46Speaker 1: a clip. Embarrassing yourself, that's always what I worry about,
- 49:48Speaker 1: more so than something good happening, that something terrible would happen.
- 49:51Speaker 1: And you know, do you do you say we'll pickle
- 49:53Speaker 1: it up sometimes? Is that what you say? We'll play
- 49:56Speaker 1: we'll play with pickles? What do you say when you
- 50:00Speaker 1: I mean maybe like we'll play pickleball. Yeah, yeah, I'll
- 50:02Speaker 1: play with your pickle sometime soon. And well that's not
- 50:05Speaker 1: it either, your pickle. You got it? Hey, congratulations, man,
- 50:09Speaker 1: that's awesome. And we're looking forward to the free stuff,
- 50:10Speaker 1: right everybody. Yeah, yeah, all right, dude, good to talk
- 50:13Speaker 1: to you. All right, thanks Andy for coming on. And
- 50:16Speaker 1: we will be looking for our free pickleball equipment swag.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I don't want swag. I want equipment. What do you mean,
- 50:22Speaker 1: like shirt swag is like I don't know, yeah, fan, Yeah,
- 50:26Speaker 1: I don't want a fan plastic bowl horn. They have
- 50:28Speaker 1: their own shoes, pickleball shoes probably. I mean I've never
- 50:33Speaker 1: seen them, but I'm assuming anybody that's in a pickleball
- 50:36Speaker 1: racket business will probably get into some sort of shoe.
- 50:38Speaker 1: What are those rackets like? What are they like? Wooden?
- 50:40Speaker 1: What are they like? Yeah, they're like pink punk paddles
- 50:42Speaker 1: there square have holes in them. Nope, the ball does
- 50:44Speaker 1: tho it's whiffleball. We can go out and play. We
- 50:46Speaker 1: gotta play today after the workout. What ball? It was
- 50:47Speaker 1: like a wolfball. The ball is a whuffleball, just bigger.
- 50:50Speaker 1: There's no way I'm gonna play with you after our workout,
- 50:52Speaker 1: but I will go play sometimes after the workout. That's
- 50:55Speaker 1: a lot. That's too much after our workouts. I can't
- 50:57Speaker 1: even move. No know, you can do it, Eddie, no chance.
- 51:00Speaker 1: You saw the last time I worked, I stayed on
- 51:01Speaker 1: the ground for like ten minutes. He did, He laid there.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I think it's all picture. Okay, Well, Kevin, you wants
- 51:08Speaker 1: set up this next anver you were going to hear? Yeah,
- 51:10Speaker 1: it's the former president of the Miami Marlins. Came over
- 51:14Speaker 1: from Montreal and his name is Dave Sampson. This guy
- 51:18Speaker 1: was super interesting talking about it. Doing a little research
- 51:21Speaker 1: on him, and he's done a lot of different things
- 51:23Speaker 1: and he's a great business guy. Won the World Series
- 51:24Speaker 1: of the Marlins, was the president there for over fifteen years, right, yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 1: over fifteen years. He was a big part in the
- 51:31Speaker 1: sale of the Marlins, buying the Marlins and Derek Jeter.
- 51:34Speaker 1: He got from great Stuff. So David Sampson he's awesome
- 51:37Speaker 1: here he is. Hey David, how are you, buddy good?
- 51:39Speaker 1: How are you hey? Super good? Thanks for being a
- 51:42Speaker 1: part of the show. Everybody got get it forward to
- 51:44Speaker 1: it check out nothing personal with David Sampson. What I
- 51:47Speaker 1: like about it is is that you, because you were,
- 51:51Speaker 1: you know, president of an organization for so long, which
- 51:55Speaker 1: would be the Marlins, like you actually understand a lot
- 51:58Speaker 1: of the things, even the idio scenecresies that are happening
- 52:01Speaker 1: with management, with ownership, and you're also not part of
- 52:05Speaker 1: that anymore, so you can say whatever you feel like.
- 52:07Speaker 1: That's got to be just so refreshing to be able
- 52:11Speaker 1: to do right. It's liberating. Yeah, It's like the minute
- 52:15Speaker 1: I got the text alert that I had been fired
- 52:18Speaker 1: by Derek Jeter, and that's a true story. That's how
- 52:20Speaker 1: I lost my job was a text alert from me
- 52:23Speaker 1: ESPN dot com. But as soon as that happened, I
- 52:26Speaker 1: just felt unshackled. I immediately got into the media world
- 52:30Speaker 1: because I wanted to get paid for talking. And most
- 52:33Speaker 1: people won't actually tell you the truth about what's happening
- 52:36Speaker 1: because they want to get back in the game to
- 52:38Speaker 1: the extent they've ever been in the game or know
- 52:41Speaker 1: what's going on. And our industry is full of people
- 52:43Speaker 1: who don't actually know what goes on just because they've
- 52:46Speaker 1: never done it. So would be the equivalent of me
- 52:48Speaker 1: trying to say what it is to be a rock star.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I can't do that, but I can certainly get people
- 52:55Speaker 1: in the room, and it's been a great niche and
- 52:57Speaker 1: I've had a great time with this new chapter at
- 52:59Speaker 1: Nothing Person, So you guys check it out. Nothing personal
- 53:01Speaker 1: with David Hampson. I do want to address what you
- 53:03Speaker 1: just said there with Jeter, because weren't you the chief
- 53:06Speaker 1: negotiator in that they're selling the team and you're the
- 53:10Speaker 1: one managing that. Do you know as you're negotiating it,
- 53:13Speaker 1: you're probably gonna get fired by the guy you're working
- 53:15Speaker 1: with to sell the team too. Oh, it was amazing.
- 53:18Speaker 1: I negotiated myself out of a job, and that doesn't
- 53:22Speaker 1: happen every day. But I knew what I was doing.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I had a job to do for our owner. He
- 53:26Speaker 1: came into my office and said sell the team, and
- 53:29Speaker 1: I said, let me do it. We don't need to
- 53:31Speaker 1: hire bankers. You don't need to spend forty or fifty
- 53:33Speaker 1: million dollars as a fee, I can do it, and
- 53:36Speaker 1: it's easy because I had so much leverage because I
- 53:39Speaker 1: knew Jeter wanted a team so badly, and he spent
- 53:42Speaker 1: the whole sales process trying to convince me that he
- 53:45Speaker 1: wanted me to stay on. So we went to the
- 53:48Speaker 1: Soho house, and we went to his house in Tampa,
- 53:51Speaker 1: and he let me meet Hannah as though that would
- 53:54Speaker 1: make a difference, as though I would choose him to
- 53:57Speaker 1: be the new owner, because I thought I would be
- 54:00Speaker 1: my job, and I knew inside that A he wasn't
- 54:03Speaker 1: going to keep me, and B I didn't really care.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I just wanted the highest price. But I let him
- 54:07Speaker 1: think that he was doing a great job, like I
- 54:09Speaker 1: would say, Hey, you know, I'm really excited about working
- 54:11Speaker 1: with you going forward. It's gonna be great, and he said,
- 54:14Speaker 1: oh yeah, we're gonna get a lot of good things done. Meanwhile,
- 54:17Speaker 1: inside I just said, hey, just go up by another
- 54:19Speaker 1: one hundred million so we can keep talking. And So
- 54:22Speaker 1: when you were kind of playing him in a different
- 54:25Speaker 1: way than I guess anybody else was trying to get
- 54:26Speaker 1: the team, because you knew just how desperately mister Baseball
- 54:30Speaker 1: wanted a baseball team, and so you use that to
- 54:32Speaker 1: your advantage. Well, especially because it really wasn't his money.
- 54:36Speaker 1: It's way easier to play people when they're using other
- 54:38Speaker 1: people's money. So he had the ear of Bruce Sherman,
- 54:41Speaker 1: who is now the controlling owner, was always the controlling owner,
- 54:45Speaker 1: and Bruce Sherman basically genuflected in his general direction, Derek,
- 54:49Speaker 1: whatever you want, I just want to be near you.
- 54:51Speaker 1: I'm going to be around you. And meanwhile Derek was negotiating,
- 54:55Speaker 1: but every time he went up in price, he knew
- 54:58Speaker 1: it wasn't his money because he actually signed an employment
- 55:01Speaker 1: deal that paid him back for his initial investment in
- 55:05Speaker 1: the team. So really was a great deal from Derek standpoint,
- 55:08Speaker 1: right up until he got canned himself. But at the
- 55:11Speaker 1: end of the day, knowing that he and a Rod
- 55:13Speaker 1: don't get along, and that a Rod wanted to be
- 55:15Speaker 1: an owner of a team, knowing that were other bidders,
- 55:18Speaker 1: including the current owner of inter Miami, a man named
- 55:21Speaker 1: George Moss, you just get a lot of groups together
- 55:25Speaker 1: and you really don't need to be a genius to
- 55:27Speaker 1: get people to overpay. You know, the ownership thing is
- 55:29Speaker 1: interesting to be and we have no idea what that
- 55:31Speaker 1: is obviously you do, but all the little things that
- 55:33Speaker 1: happened behind the scenes. What I think about now is
- 55:35Speaker 1: what the Ravens are going through with Lamar Jackson in
- 55:38Speaker 1: that Okay, here's the guy who says he wants this money,
- 55:41Speaker 1: and they say, you know, well, we've offered you, you
- 55:44Speaker 1: know whatever. The rumors are, one hundred and thirty million guaranteed.
- 55:47Speaker 1: You know, you hear different stories and he's like, I
- 55:48Speaker 1: don't need it all guarantee. But you have the Deshaun
- 55:50Speaker 1: Watson deal. You have all these factors. And all I'm
- 55:53Speaker 1: thinking about is if it's guaranteed money. And you can
- 55:56Speaker 1: answer this better than anybody I've ever talked to. If
- 55:59Speaker 1: it's guarantee money, does the owner have to put that
- 56:01Speaker 1: away like an escrow? If he guarantees the money in
- 56:04Speaker 1: a contract, so if he goes bankrupt, the player still
- 56:08Speaker 1: gets paid. Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, players
- 56:13Speaker 1: are some of the least secured creditors in case of
- 56:16Speaker 1: bankruptcy of all time because they line up behind the
- 56:19Speaker 1: actual debt holders. Now, there is a rule in baseball
- 56:22Speaker 1: that when you defer salaries. You know how Bobby Benia
- 56:26Speaker 1: gets paid like a million dollars every year until he's
- 56:28Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty. The rule is supposed to be
- 56:31Speaker 1: that when you defer money to a player, that you
- 56:34Speaker 1: have to put that into a segregated account, but no
- 56:37Speaker 1: teams follow it. MLB doesn't actually enforce that rule, and
- 56:42Speaker 1: so the players, at the end of the day, if
- 56:43Speaker 1: they agreed to deferrals, they're just assuming that the team
- 56:46Speaker 1: will be a going concern and nobody's gotten screwed so far,
- 56:50Speaker 1: so I feel like that's a good bet. And deferred
- 56:52Speaker 1: money used to be a very smart thing for teams
- 56:54Speaker 1: to do because they would pay the player zero interest
- 56:57Speaker 1: and they'd invest that money and make made off like interest.
- 57:01Speaker 1: But these days that doesn't happen as much. So when
- 57:04Speaker 1: they guarantee money, they're not guarantee and they'll still have
- 57:06Speaker 1: money seven years down the road when they've guaranteed. You know,
- 57:09Speaker 1: I didn't know the answer that. I'm surprised that there
- 57:11Speaker 1: isn't some rule in place so a bunch of people
- 57:13Speaker 1: don't get screwed eventually. I'm just trying to remember from
- 57:16Speaker 1: all the contracts I did, I don't think I ever
- 57:18Speaker 1: did a deal where the player guaranteed me that he'd
- 57:22Speaker 1: still be good at the end of the contract. Well,
- 57:25Speaker 1: but you're not paying him to stay good just to
- 57:28Speaker 1: stay on the team though, right, this is to know
- 57:30Speaker 1: I'm paying him to be good better, I want him
- 57:33Speaker 1: to be good. I don't want to make a bad signing.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Yet again, I don't want to be criticized for it.
- 57:38Speaker 1: I'm hoping that the player we sign keeps getting better
- 57:41Speaker 1: as they get paid more. It just doesn't work out
- 57:43Speaker 1: that way a lot. What's the hardest thing about being
- 57:46Speaker 1: a president of an organization like one of the least
- 57:48Speaker 1: glamorous things, because all I hear is you get tickets
- 57:50Speaker 1: up front and all the hot dogs you can eat.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Do you know that in eighteen years in Major League Baseball,
- 57:57Speaker 1: I did not have one hot dog at the ballpark.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I'd not want to know that. And why is that?
- 58:02Speaker 1: Was that a purposeful decision because you weren't eating hot dogs? No?
- 58:07Speaker 1: I like, we your heads at but no. It's the
- 58:09Speaker 1: same reason why in college I lived above a Taco
- 58:12Speaker 1: bell and I made a deal with myself that I
- 58:14Speaker 1: would never go into the taco bell because my feeling is,
- 58:18Speaker 1: if you go in once at the end of a
- 58:19Speaker 1: long night, you might as well just bank it that
- 58:21Speaker 1: you're going to go in every night. And so I
- 58:23Speaker 1: figured if I had a hot dog at a game,
- 58:25Speaker 1: I go to games every day. I just figured that
- 58:29Speaker 1: I'd be eating hundreds and hundreds of hot dogs. So
- 58:31Speaker 1: I chose to stay at zero instead. I became addicted
- 58:34Speaker 1: to pumpkin seats. Yeah, now, now what was your question, Well, no,
- 58:37Speaker 1: I live a similar life, or I can't keep sugar
- 58:40Speaker 1: house because I know what I'm good and what I'm
- 58:42Speaker 1: not good at, And for you to never go, I'm
- 58:44Speaker 1: not going to do it, because then the floodgates are open.
- 58:46Speaker 1: I may have them all the time, but that's not
- 58:48Speaker 1: glamorous about being a team president. That people don't realize
- 58:52Speaker 1: is that it's running a business. And you don't sit
- 58:55Speaker 1: around in the clubhouse and talk to players. You don't
- 58:58Speaker 1: shag fly balls. You are worrying about profits and losses,
- 59:02Speaker 1: and you've got HR issues and finance issues and sales
- 59:05Speaker 1: and marketing pr all of those things, not many of
- 59:10Speaker 1: which are glamorous. But the most important thing that people
- 59:12Speaker 1: don't focus on is that I have not come across
- 59:16Speaker 1: another job where everybody thinks that they're better at it
- 59:20Speaker 1: than you are, and that they comment on everything you do,
- 59:24Speaker 1: and they think that everything you do is wrong. It's
- 59:27Speaker 1: sort of like when you're a lawyer, somebody like sitting
- 59:30Speaker 1: in your office saying, oh my god, that's the worst
- 59:32Speaker 1: motion ever, or that's the worst argument ever. It doesn't
- 59:35Speaker 1: really happen that way, but in baseball front offices and
- 59:37Speaker 1: all sports it does. Almost almost feels like a referee. Well,
- 59:41Speaker 1: you guys can't get a little credit if you win
- 59:42Speaker 1: the World Series. Otherwise you did something wrong. Because even
- 59:45Speaker 1: if you got to the World Series, it didn't win.
- 59:47Speaker 1: It could be well we didn't have, you know, a
- 59:50Speaker 1: good third baseman, or we did. But a referee never
- 59:52Speaker 1: gets credit even if they do the best job. You
- 59:55Speaker 1: just don't even know they were there. That almost feels
- 59:58Speaker 1: like an executive where the Major League Baseball team except
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: all the free hotdogs, except all the free hot dogs.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: But listen, you go for this, right, this is the
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: World Series ring, and that's what you attempt to do.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: But the truth is, the day after you get the ring,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: everybody is saying, all right, now, what's next, like a
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: total Josiah Bartlett type of thing. What are we doing now?
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: What have you done for me lately? So there really
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: is no resting on your laurels, and there's no such
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: thing as an offseason. You are constantly working to get better.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: But what's the goal If the goal is to win
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the World Series? But then you just have to defend
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: it and repeat it. Where does it ever end? When
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: do you get off the roller coaster? I guess you
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: get off when you get fired, yeah, or die when
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: the coaster just stops. I guess you get thrown off. Yes.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I had tweeted this weekend that I think the two
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: best rules are in professional sports or major sports in
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: our country in the past twenty five years. One as
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: a college football playoff, and then two is the pitch clock.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I think it is. We've only had it for spring
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: training and now, you know, a week and a half
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: or however long we are into the season. It's amazing
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: it watching games so much more enjoyable, not just because
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: a game will now end in two hours and thirty
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: minutes or less, but even watching the game, even if
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: you only have twenty minutes to be there to watch
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: the game, You're just seeing so much more action because
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of the pitch clock. Now, I say all that, what
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: are your thoughts on the pitch clock, and you can
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: totally contradict me if you like. Obviously, well, I appreciate that,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and I guess I would say this, This is totally
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: anecdotal what you're saying right now. It's a feeling you
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: have that it seems like there's more action or it
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: seems like the games are faster and the average game
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: time is going down. It's only been four or five games,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: so we don't know for sure what the final result
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: will be, but it feels right, and I think that's
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: what you're referring to, is the feeling of more action.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I love the fact that games are starting earlier. That's
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: why it feels like they're not going so late in
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: the night. Weekday games are starting at six forty in
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: many markets instead of seven to ten or seven oh seven,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: and then you combine that with the shorter game time.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: But I think the really important issue that baseball has
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: to confront is the payroll disparity and the fact that
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the Mets can go into a season with three hundred
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and eighty million dollars and the A's can go into
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: a season at thirty three million dollars. Because I think
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: that helping around the edges like these rule changes is important,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: but making sure that all markets have at least a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: hope at one point in time to compete. I think
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: that's going to be the bast issue that baseball has
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: to overcome in order to build its fan base. Two things.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: One upon your comment there, even if the games do
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: run longer, it seems like their games are like thirteen
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to eleven, and I'm okay with a longer game if
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: there are more runs being scored. I just and listen.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I'm a massive baseball fan, and even I'm starting to go,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: are we serious? We're gonna want? It's almost like when
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Yanna shoots free throws. Sometimes these guys that are pitching,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: it just takes for frickin' ever for a pick. So
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: even if the games aren't sped up, that means so
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: far you're right way more action, and that I love
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: because baseball just needs more action period. However you get it.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: I think that's why the young kids aren't playing it
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: as much, because it's not fun to watch. And if
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: it's not fun to watch, how do you even get
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: into it? To begin with the second thing that you said,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: the money, So the NFL, you know they have a
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: minimal they have minimum they have to pay. The owners
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: have to put in, does does baseball have a minimum?
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Or could the Oakland A's just do five million bucks
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: and they got a bunch of scrubs from the softball league. Well,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the minimum is let's say, seven hundred thousand dollars times
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: twenty six players, so league minimal least, that's the league
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: minimum for salary for a year is seven hundred, seven
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: hundred and twenty thousand in that range. There's no maximum,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: there's no salary cap, there's no salary floor. And keep
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: in mind the difference between football and baseball. Football shares
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: the lion share of their revenue, right the national broadcast
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: revenue that is shared equally amongst the thirty two teams.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: In baseball, local TV revenue is such a huge component.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Local gate revenue is such a huge component, and the
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: haves just have way more than the have nots, and
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: they're not sharing enough revenue. And that's something baseball is
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: going to have to deal with. What's the easy Actually
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: it's not easy, But what's the easy fix that you
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: would implement if you went in and you were the commissioner.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: So the first thing I would do is ignore what
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: everyone's basis is because the argument that big market teams
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: make is that they spent more to buy their team,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Therefore they have a right to have more revenue and
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: keep more revenue. So the first thing I would do
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: is ignore what their purchase price was, and I would
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: institute far more revenue sharing. Right now, the rules are
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: put in place so that it's like the IRS tax code.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Teams spend millions of dollars trying to avoid paying tens
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: of millions of dollars into revenue sharing. There is arbitration,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: There are fights and arguments all about teams trying to
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: hide revenue. The first thing I would do is collect
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: all baseball and baseball related and baseball ancillary revenue, put
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: it in a pot, and share it to a far
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: greater extent than it's being shared now. Yeah, that is
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I just thought he'd say something like charge of dollar partickets.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: You know, that's that was pretty detailed there. And again
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: that's what we have you here, because you can lead
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: us into some things that we don't even know to
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: even consider. And I think about teams being sold now
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: and the commanders are they're supposedly being sold. You know,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: we have bidders, you have Magic Johnson's group. You know,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Dan Snyder is always kind of odd anyway. I don't
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: know if he's your friend or not, but like, what
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: can you tell us about what's happening? Maybe not even
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: with that team specifically, but when they're trying to sell
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: the Commanders and multiple people are bidding, what's going on
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: in that office there? Well, there's several there's several issues
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: when someone's buying a sports team. Don't look at it
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: like you're buying a but he that's traded on the
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: stock exchange. It's not a revenue multiple. It's not an
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: eba dumb multiple. What makes sports teams worth what they're
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: worth is something that I call the ego premium. The
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: ego premium is what someone will pay to feel important,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: what someone will pay to get to go to a party.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: And say, I own a baseball team, what somebody will pay,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: as Steve ballmer in La said, I founded or helped
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: co founder of Microsoft. I can't get a dinner reservation.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Now I own the Clippers. I can do whatever I want,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: whenever I want to. And he wrote the check out
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: of his check in account for the two plus billion dollars.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: So owners decide they want to get into it ego premium. Now,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: when you've got multiple bidders, Daniel Snyder's in a position
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: where he gets to decide on behalf of him and
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: his partners what he wants to get for the team,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: and you can hold out for that price, except if
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: you're Daniel Snyder, because what's being held over his head
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: is that if he doesn't get this team sold before
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: next season, there is a real likelihood that twenty four
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: owners will vote and force him to sell and take
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: over this sales process. The NFL doesn't want that, the
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: other owners don't want it, and Snyder certainly doesn't want it.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: So it's in his best interest to choose one of
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: these groups and get the team sold. And I think
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: that's what's going to happen. Do you think there'll be
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: an MLB team back in Montreal? No? Do you think
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: there'll be an MLB team in Nashville? Better chance? But
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: no is Vegas first. Vegas should have been first a
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: long time ago, and Vegas is going to get one.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: It's funny baseball would not expand into Vegas. We went.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I went personally to Vegas and net with the mayor.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Mayor Oscar Goldman trying to move the team in Florida
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: to Las Vegas when we couldn't get a deal done
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: in Florida and there were showgirls around and there was
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: pomp and circumstance. We had a great idea for a
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: new stadium, but we did not have the support of
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Bud Selig because of his relationship with Barchiamadi, the old
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: commissioner who suspended Pete Rose over gambling, and that's why
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Pete Rose is still suspended, by the way. Incidentally, but
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: baseball was not embracing gambling. And guess what Hockey got
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: there first. Now football is there, so baseball is now third.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Lebron wants a team there, so there could be four,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: but it's time for Baseball to hurry up, and even
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: though they're late, they should get there. But the reason
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: you're not seeing teams relocate to Vegas, even though there's
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: a rumor that the a's will is Vegas is being
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: held out as an expansion city because in the case
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: of expansion, there's something called an expansion fee in the billions,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: and that gets split by all thirty current owners and
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: they get to pocket it or use it for payroll
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: or whatever they want. But it's a huge help to
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: their bottom line. So you want to save as many
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: cities as possible. I'm sorry, but that's why Montreal is
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: still going to be considered because it helps with competition.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: All Right, final thing here, I just want to brag
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: on you for second and then ask a question. So Eddie,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna read this stuff about David here. Okay. He
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: was named one of sports business journals forty under forty
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: for two years in a row. Back in the two
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: thousand and three two thousand and four we talked about
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: him being chief negotiator for the sale of the Marlins.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: He was the first active major team president to complete
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: an Iron Man. In two thousand and six, he ran
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: fifty two miles from Ponto Beach to Marlins Park or
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: a six hundred thousand dollars for a charity. I'm gonna
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: keep going. I got a point with all this. I
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: just want you to hear it. He completed the World
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Marathon Challenge, running seven marathons on seven continents in seven
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: consecutive days. So he's a Forrest Gump, right, He's Forrest
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Gump of you know, sports and business. But then I
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: get to this and I'd just like free to comment
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: on this, David, you were kicked off Survivor really quick,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: really quick. I need to know what happened there, because
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: you got everything else, you got the you know, you
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: got to buy the tail. Except for Survivor. Let's just
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: say that when they dress you like Thurston Howell from
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: Gilligan's Island and you've got blazer on and an ascot
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: as your buff, and then the name of your tribe
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: is the Brains Tribe, and then you're elected the leader
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: of the Brains Tribe, I would say there's a solid
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: chance you're not gonna win. And my view was from
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: a cost benefit analysis. I'm not going to sit on
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: an island for thirty nine days not to win a
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: million dollars. So if you're gonna lose second places the
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: same as eighteenth place, I'd rather get out after three
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: days and have a cheeseburger and a beer. Did you
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: get to hang out in the hotel? Do they make
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: you hang out in the hotel the whole time? So
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: you're their pregame and you're their post game. And I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: was running a team at the time that was filmed
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: in the summer of twenty thirteen in the middle of
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: my only hundred last season. I believe in my career
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: and I had to get back to the business of
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: running a team. My staff when I was gone to
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: film Survivor not allowed to tell him I was doing it.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: They actually and what does this say about me? They
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: thought I was in rehab. That's funny, true, funny. Okay, look,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: we're big fans. Thank you for your time. I want
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: to everybody it's listening now. If you love sports, if
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: you love like an entertaining sports business, meaning you get
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: to know, like the real stuff happening behind the scenes
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: on a lot of this, but not in a way
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: that is so granual. You don't understand. You're gonna like
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: nothing personal with David Sampson. David, we really appreciate the
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: time and thank you for spending a few minutes with
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: us here. We hope you have a great week. Man. Hey,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you two have a great day. Thanks. All right, that's it,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: thank you, and with that we bet Eddie a fine farewell.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Oh man, this will be our final show with you, buddy.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: The time has come. Huh well for you, more time though,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: for well everything, yes, everything else in my life. You
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: know what I did, I didn't want to ask you
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: guys one thing that before I left, just if there
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: are any updates on the Cowboys, just get a little respect,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: you know, in my honor over on the soil of losers.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Do they respect cowboys? No? Zero. I think we respect
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: them more than they do. I know. But like if
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: someone comes down the pipe and I'm not here to
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: defend my boys, step up for me. I will if
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I feel that it's fair to defend. I never do that.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if it's stupid. Just say, hey man,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: it's our year. Stuff like that. This is our year.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: How cowboys of Eddie saying a few things and we
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: could play them back them right now? Okay, Eddie, give
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: me give us like five of them. Okay, number one,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: it's gonna be wet ready you can do them. I'm
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: just gonna do them. Go ahead, guys. This is a
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: great move by the Cowboys. This is this is the
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: reason why the Cowboys are gonna win this year. That's
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: a good one. One. Can't go ahead? Wow? How about
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: them cowboys? So good? Good good? Were good man? And
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I told you Dak this is why you paid Dak
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: all the money. This dude's awesome. You may never use
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: that one, so just keep it. But but you didn't
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: give us a spot to Edie, as I'll say you
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: got with a second of pause at the end, you can't.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I got it, and you guys doubted Dak. Look, that's
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: why Dak is the quarterback for the Cowboys, and that's
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: why we pay them all that money. Definitely not gonna
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: use that. Definitely not gonna use that one. Oh, let's see,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: what's the last one? Yeah? Two more? Oh, two more?
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Two more? Two more? Um, I don't know. Just just
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: roll with us through weed and boys. Oh we them boys? Yea,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: all right, Weed and boys and cut. Yeah, that's the
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: last one, mikey, I do some sad ones. Hey, dude,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: that was a tough Hey, that was a tough week.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Tough week, tough matchup. We'll get him next week though, Hey,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: this is our years, so stupid. What about an offseason
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: decision the Cowboys make? Do you don't agree with? This
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: is what I usually do? Okay, okay, okay, I don't
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: get it right now, but I will. Okay, we'll make
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: a little sound of all, Mike, and then we'll go
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: to that one we need to all right, final thought,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Eddie will go to you last. Okay, Kevin, go ahead, Eddie.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I am gonna miss you, but this isn't about you.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I do want to see a good game tonight. That's
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: all I'm hopeful for. Hopefully you can. I don't know
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: they or Tendeo State keeps it close and you can
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: doesn't blow them out. I'll tell you what if Sendeo
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: State wins, you guys can go ahead and catch yourself.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Be a little richard yourself. I'll catch you in a
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: little bit. Hey, let's go out, let's go. Just give
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: me a little root and interest there. I mean, the
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: way it's been going, we really don't know, like the
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: last since the Sweet sixteen, I've I've like missed every pick.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Are you even gonna listen to the show, Eddie? Of course,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: especially like somebody it's like you're breaking up, like you're
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: can follow me on Instagram if somebody like tweets me
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: or something and like hey, they're talking about you, I
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: can listen. M Hey, you guys don't be mean to
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: me though. All right, they'll be like, oh youve ednywhere
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: here he would do this. We'll probably do that. Sounds
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: yeah for sure. Also again I want to shout out
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Caitlyn Clark. I was reading that she will make more
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: in IL deals next year because she has to stay.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: She can't go go play NBA basketball WNBA until after
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: next year. But she'll make more in IL deals next
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: year than she would have made in salary in the WNBA. No,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: that's crazy, z awesome, it's massive. Yeah, it's really cool.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: So I've never sat and watched up whole women's championship.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I've watched them the games, but never all of it.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I think it's exciting whenever there are, you know, generational
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: players that bring an interest to things, Caitlyn Clark women's basketball,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Steph men's basketball, Andy Rotic pickleball. So we like that.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: And I don't know now I'll be following IOWA next
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: year a little bit. Just I was just watching her
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: shoot from so far so quickly. Was amazing to see.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: I don't I didn't see a single dude do it
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: like that in college basketball. So I like that. New
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: people bringing us to a new sport. And finally, Eddie,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: so I want to ask you us something before I
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: say goodbye. But I do want to talk about Anthony Rendome.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: There was this video of him fighting with a spectator.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: He's walking out. Did you see this? Is he a
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: UFC guy? Rend? Yeah, he plays baseball. Okays, he played
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: for the Angels, third basemin Okay. So he's walking out
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: and apparently some fan says something to him and he
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: turns around, like what did you call me? Grabs him
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: by the shots. I saw this? Did you call me
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: the B word? Whatever? Baby? Yes you did punk and
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: he threw him, you know whatever. I feel like fans
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: they really just see players on the court or walking
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: by as something that's untanged. Like I can say whatever
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: I want. You're not a real person, Go beep yourself, right,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: But like they are real people, And like should you
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: be yelling like that to a player? And is it
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: okay for the player to like turn around and react.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: The players shouldn't react because they should have been um
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: educated in that they are a public figure and they
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: could lose money, They could lose that there's bad things
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: that can happens. That's just like sand. Should humans be
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: bad humans? No, they shouldn't. But you're gonna have idiots,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: just like fans. You're gonna have idiots. And it's up
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: to the player, sadly to just move on because they
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: will get in trouble if they do something back, even
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: if they do something that is not legally wrong. If
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: you can you screaming, someone's face is screaming at you.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: That looks bad on the player. It does so, but
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: then the fan can say whatever he wants. I thought
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: name okay, that name is Rendon. No you want to
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: say it right, Anthony, I don't say like right, that's okay.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: But doing it's not that the player's gotta be more mature.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: I hate that. It's like Kyrie. I watch him on
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: TikTok all the time talking to the fans, like, dude,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: just I know it's hard. It's hard when like some
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: of you suck. What'd you say? Just ignore him? I
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: know you're sitting so close. It's hard. I know. I'm
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: not saying I would be good at it, but as
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: a player you have to. Oh you fight with people
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: on Twitter, you'd be terrible at it. Yeah, I do
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: say that. All right, take goodbye? All right, guys, this
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: is tough. I mean, I hate I hate to leave
