- 2:08All right, what's up, everyone? Welcome in to Inside the Hoosier
- 2:11Mind, brought to you in part by military broadcast radio,
- 2:14helping give veterans a voice, joined once again by Mike the
- 2:17Shy Kid. Mike, buddy, how are you, good
- 2:18Sir? I'm OK, man, I'm whoa, I just
- 2:21got a little blurry there, but I'm OK, I'm doing good.
- 2:23I know your camera's a little a little drunk there, buddy.
- 2:25Cameras had a little bit too much to eat.
- 2:27A little bit, a little. Bit a little bit before we get
- 2:31started I do want to give a quick shout out to the music
- 2:34world. We lost a great legend this
- 2:36morning. We lost legendary Black Sabbath
- 2:38frontman Ozzy Osbourne at the age of 76 due to Parkinson's.
- 2:43And it, it sucks because Ozzy Ozzy was kind of cool because if
- 2:47you look at like when he was born, he's born in 1949, you
- 2:50know, so he's born in England. He's born, you know, just before
- 2:52the 50s, right after World War Two.
- 2:55He grew up in like an interesting time, man, because
- 2:57that, that was right after the war.
- 2:58You had the whole, you know, World War Two generation.
- 3:01So he grew up in the 60's, the 70's, the 80s, nineties.
- 3:05And I feel like his music was just transcended all throughout.
- 3:07And then honestly, like look at his songs he did with like Post
- 3:10Malone and whatnot. Like Ozzy was doing everything
- 3:12he could to stay relevant. And honestly, he to me, he was
- 3:14doing it in in the right way as far as like he wasn't trying to
- 3:18go all out there. He wasn't trying to like rebrand
- 3:20himself. Ozzy was still just just doing
- 3:23Ozzy things all the way all the way up until the end.
- 3:25I thought I thought that was pretty awesome.
- 3:27I mean, oh man, grew up watching his reality TV show with Meet
- 3:31the Osbournes. Man, I mean, that was like, that
- 3:32was classic. I didn't have like a pet pig or
- 3:34something. Like it was crazy.
- 3:37I did get a chance to see Ozzy perform one time.
- 3:39I'm with Post Malone, which was like the coolest thing for me.
- 3:42And I was like, definitely like you understood, he's older now.
- 3:45So like it's not to the same degree of, you know, eating a
- 3:47bat on stage or doing the crazy things, you know, Ozzie and
- 3:50Mötley Crüe and, and everybody else used to do together.
- 3:53But definitely somebody I grew up with, definitely somebody on
- 3:56Guitar Hero who would just go fucking nuts as a kid.
- 3:59You're you're trying to play Black Sabbath songs or Crazy
- 4:02Train or like all these different things.
- 4:04So like definitely, definitely one of those ones that like I
- 4:07know for you tone, I don't know if you can relate.
- 4:09I don't know how your dad was, but like I remember my dad
- 4:11always listening to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath and
- 4:13like, it kind of reminds me of my dad.
- 4:15And like it's kind of like one of those like, Dang, you know
- 4:17what I mean? Like kind of resonates to your
- 4:19childhood in a way. So I never had it with my, with
- 4:23my dad, 'cause he he passed away when I was really young and, and
- 4:27mom, mom listened to a lot of the like the Seventies, 80s and
- 4:2990s music. So I didn't, but she was never a
- 4:32huge fan of Ozzie, I don't think.
- 4:34Or if she was, I never listened to his music.
- 4:36Believe it or not, childhood wise, the old school Maddens and
- 4:40I'm gonna kind of date myself a little bit like Madden 2008,
- 4:43like crazy train being on there. You had Troy Palamalu and Larry
- 4:47Fitzgerald on the front. Like just play.
- 4:50Yeah, that that does remind me of my childhood because I'm
- 4:53like, I'm 13 at the time. I'm in middle school and light
- 4:56hand. Yeah, like you play that.
- 4:58And it was so nice because all the Maddens were like the exact
- 5:01same up until like 25 when they decided to like, do things a
- 5:05little bit different. So oh, you mean the first Madden
- 5:0825? Yeah, the first Madden. 25, not
- 5:10the second one. I know I was like what?
- 5:13Like what are y'all going to do when Madden 25 actually comes
- 5:16out there? Remember when we had those
- 5:18conversations like as kids and we were like, one day Madden 25
- 5:21is going to come out? Well, whatever Bo, it's like 20
- 5:23years from now and then oh shit. Like it's, it's here, bro.
- 5:26We're here like. Later like 20. 6 Now that's
- 5:29nuts. But but now, but let's let's
- 5:33jump into a little bit of sports.
- 5:34I know we're man, we're getting so close to the end of the
- 5:37offseason, buddy. I think technically the first
- 5:39preseason game, the Hall of Fame game, starts in like a week,
- 5:43like a week. A Hall of Fame.
- 5:44Game this year, brother. I think it's the Chargers and
- 5:46the Lions if I remember correct that.
- 5:48Sounds like Hendon Hooker is going to play.
- 5:50That's what I'm hearing. That's what I'm hearing, GBO.
- 5:54Maybe. Colby Orange.
- 5:55But, but Speaking of Tennessee, but not not the University of
- 5:59Tennessee, we'll put it that way, but the state of Tennessee,
- 6:02there's a little bit of interesting news come out of
- 6:04there. The Memphis Tigers, and I know
- 6:07you talked about it last show. I know obviously our boy Randy
- 6:10from Memphis, I don't know if he really rocks with Memphis like
- 6:13that, though. I know he's a, he's a, he's a Go
- 6:14big Orange fan. Yeah, I know.
- 6:16I know Jim fucks with Memphis. I know.
- 6:17I I think Jim's Jim's obviously ALSU fan, but he he attends
- 6:22Memphis games if I'm not mistaken.
- 6:24I, I think you're right, but a little bit of news out of them.
- 6:27So they actually put a bid to the Big 12 to try to join a
- 6:32power conference. They actually submitted to the
- 6:35Big 12 a bid worth $200 million to basically join in.
- 6:40And that was a part of not just joining them and paying for it,
- 6:46but essentially it would also mean that they would forfeit any
- 6:49media rights. And then they would also have
- 6:52the option, the Big 12 would of being able to kick Memphis out
- 6:56come 2030 to 2031. If they felt that the
- 7:00performance wasn't up to standards, they could basically
- 7:03get the boot out, but it would give Memphis a chance to be a
- 7:07part of a power conference. Now, this has actually been
- 7:12their third request apparently this decade that the Memphis
- 7:18Tigers have, you know, tried to join the Big 12.
- 7:21The Big 12, you know, obviously denied them.
- 7:23They actually got a invitation from the now PAC 12 to join
- 7:30those new that new crew in this pretty happily denied.
- 7:37I would too. Yeah, I'm like, no, you're,
- 7:41you're kind of better at the American.
- 7:43I'm good where I'm at. I'm good where I'm at.
- 7:45You're better where you're at than you are if you if you tried
- 7:47to do that to to gain a power status.
- 7:51So, and supposedly the, the, the table is still open for them to
- 7:56try to make an offer to join the ACC, which would be the other,
- 8:00the other power conference that's realistically left
- 8:02because they're not getting offers from the Big 10 or the,
- 8:05or the SEC by no means. But it's crazy because if you
- 8:09look at Memphis's overall, you know, school history at least as
- 8:14a football team. Now as a football team, I'm not,
- 8:16I'm not going to lie, they're not great.
- 8:18They are all time record. They're 543 wins, 538 losses, 33
- 8:24ties. So they're five games above 500.
- 8:27Like not great as far as football.
- 8:29Goes what I heard was above 500 that's.
- 8:32What they are they they are above 500.
- 8:34And let's be realistic too. They've produced some solid NFL
- 8:39players as far as football goes. You know, they they produced
- 8:42DeAngelo Williams, Steven Gakowski, the, you know,
- 8:45Patriots kicker for a long time, Isaac Bruce, you know, big Rams
- 8:49guy. Joy, I appreciate it.
- 8:51Happy Tuesday to you, Joy coming in again.
- 8:54Joy, Go Tigers 'cause we're talking about the Tigers, but
- 8:58not the LSU Tigers. Talking about Memphis Tigers at
- 9:00the moment, but but close OK Paxton Lynch, obviously the
- 9:05quarterback bust out of out of Denver.
- 9:08He he was in Memphis, but Jake Elliott, the kicker for the
- 9:12Bengals who ended up actually going to the Eagles.
- 9:15Now the Eagles great kicker came out of Memphis, Tony Pollard,
- 9:19Antonio Gibson and Kenneth Gainwell, all great players that
- 9:24have come out of Memphis as far as being able to produce pretty
- 9:27solid talent. But here's really the surprising
- 9:30part to me as far as the Big 12 denying them is, Brett, your
- 9:34mark kind of came out a few months ago and he had mentioned
- 9:39that they weren't just looking at football schools, they were
- 9:42potentially looking at basketball.
- 9:44And we know that because they had actually reached out to
- 9:47Gonzaga before Gonzaga decided to join the PAC 12, the Big 12
- 9:52had meetings with them. The Big 12 also had meetings
- 9:54with UConn to potentially meet with them.
- 9:56Now, obviously, Uconn's bad part is they don't.
- 9:58They do have a football team, but it's pretty awful and
- 10:01Gonzaga doesn't have a football team at all, so they were
- 10:04potentially looking at just expanding as far as basketball
- 10:06wise. Now Memphis basketball on the
- 10:08other hand, night and day difference from their football
- 10:11team. Hey 100% my bad, my bad.
- 10:15No, no, no, you're good all time.
- 10:17They are 1406 wins, 820 losses in one tie.
- 10:24Even even then, Tone, like, I just want to put this in
- 10:26perspective for all the people listening.
- 10:28If you're not a numbers guy, Tone, can you name me one of the
- 10:31best players in football, in the NFL, in the NFL, to come out of
- 10:35Memphis? To come out of Memphis.
- 10:38Come out of Memphis. Honestly, Isaac Bruce, probably.
- 10:41OK, Isaac Bruce. Not a bad name, not a bad name.
- 10:44But when we talk about football, you're looking at Derrick Rose,
- 10:47Penny Hardaway and say what you want about Jameis Wiseman, but
- 10:51the guy was a stud. Jalen Duran, like you've had.
- 10:54Yeah, for basketball. I'm sorry for basketball.
- 10:56They've had some Hall of Fame level players come out of this
- 10:59organization. You know, any Hardaway and
- 11:01Derrick Rose kind of being those top two names.
- 11:03But like what Derrick Rose was able to do with the Tigers way
- 11:06back when. Tone like it, like you said,
- 11:08it's night and day. From a recruitment standpoint, I
- 11:10really don't think you can get a serious five star level guy to
- 11:13go to Memphis. Yeah, but I will say too,
- 11:16though, I mean, you look at the Big 12 and and realistically, if
- 11:19you look at all the conferences, the Big 12 basketball wise,
- 11:23probably the best conference hands down.
- 11:26I mean, I know the Big 10 has some good teams.
- 11:28Obviously the SEC, they they were stacked this year.
- 11:30You know, you had Bama, you had Auburn, you had Florida, you
- 11:34know, Tennessee, all of them doing great this year just as
- 11:36far as basketball goes. But you look at the Big 12, you
- 11:39know, Baylor historically has been great the last few years.
- 11:42Kansas is almost always good. You know, Texas Tech is kind of
- 11:46backing up on the on the rise. You know, if you were to add
- 11:48Memphis into that, obviously they've got Houston in the Big
- 11:5212, Houston all the way to the national title this this year.
- 11:55So I mean, Big 12 is set as far as basketball.
- 11:59And I mean, just adding, adding one more team in there as far as
- 12:02iron, sharpening iron. I mean, I feel like it's kind of
- 12:06missed. And, and to me, it's weird
- 12:09because they, they essentially copied what SMU did for the ACC.
- 12:13You know, the SMU was like, hey, we want to join the ACC.
- 12:16We'll forfeit all of our media, right?
- 12:18You know, forfeit all the media rights for revenue and whatnot,
- 12:21just to be able to say that we're a part of this power
- 12:23conference and whatnot, just to have that status back.
- 12:26And it's weird that the Big 12 said no as far as doing it
- 12:30because again, you're, you're, you're getting nothing but
- 12:34positives out of this. As far as you're getting the
- 12:36money, you're not having to share your meteor rights money.
- 12:39Memphis gets at least the branding.
- 12:40And as far as the big name goes, that helps with their
- 12:43recruitment. And you know, again, they,
- 12:45they're giving them the option if we're not meeting what you
- 12:48want to sue in five to six years, you can kick us out, no
- 12:50harm, no foul. So I mean, I, I feel like it's
- 12:53kind of nuts that they're turning it down personally.
- 12:56I the last point I kind of wanted to make, because when you
- 12:59brought this up to my attention, I, I did kind of want to like
- 13:02actually contribute to a college football conversation on inside
- 13:05the who's your mind rather than just nod my head.
- 13:07But you know, I was kind of like looking at the numbers and let's
- 13:10not talk about the ACC for a second, but just LSU, you look
- 13:13at Death Valley 2020 three. I mean, you're, you're averaging
- 13:1677,000 people per game at a minimum.
- 13:18Pretty much. You know, they have a capacity
- 13:20to fill up 102,000 and some change amount amount of seats.
- 13:24You look at Notre Dame, which I, you know, I looked at all the
- 13:26ACC teams. That's kind of really the main
- 13:28one. I think you we can all agree
- 13:30from a football standpoint, Notre Dame right now, they can
- 13:33draw 77,000 fans or more. I I think for me, when you look
- 13:39at a place like Memphis, I was looking at the stats, the
- 13:42attendance in 2025 was the worst it has been in a very long time.
- 13:46There were a lot of games where they had less than 4000 fans in
- 13:49the entire arena. So tone like moving, I don't
- 13:53into a different conference, I think obviously brings more
- 13:56viewership, but from an attendance level, what do you
- 14:00think would change for that If they go to the ACC, do you think
- 14:03that brings more attendance to the game or do you think that's
- 14:06just a Memphis problem? You know, obviously Tennessee
- 14:09being the Big Brother there. It's kind of like Northwestern
- 14:12and and U of I, you know what I mean?
- 14:14People are going to go to U of I games.
- 14:15Everybody loves Urbana Champaign, but Northwestern
- 14:18Northwestern is just there. Yeah, I mean, well, the other
- 14:21thing, the other issue too, Memphis has to do with not only
- 14:23Tennessee, technically you have to deal with Vandy.
- 14:26I mean, even though Vandy is not a power school, I mean,
- 14:28academically they're they're a powerhouse because I mean,
- 14:31they're one of the one of the top schools as far as academics
- 14:33goes. And they're at least at minimum
- 14:35in the SECI don't know if necessarily it would potentially
- 14:40put more butts in seats. But again, I mean, at least Big
- 14:4412 wise, like you're not losing anything out of it because
- 14:47again, you're not you're not paying them anything.
- 14:49They're paying you. And you know, it's kind of one
- 14:52of those also like a like a business investment, you know,
- 14:55you have to spend money to make money.
- 14:57So, you know, maybe they do, you know, if you're able to make
- 14:59that argument of like, hey, basketball wise, if we can fill
- 15:05what, 12 to 14,000 stadium or you know, seat capacity
- 15:09basketball, you know, stadium, you know, if we can fill that
- 15:13and we have a good match up against Houston, who we used to
- 15:16play in. Now the what they call an
- 15:19American, you know, the American Conference, which we'll get into
- 15:21here in a bit. You know, they used to play
- 15:24Cincinnati, you know, they used to play Houston, UCF, you know,
- 15:27all these schools that came over from the AAC into the Big 12.
- 15:31So I mean, I think the potential's there.
- 15:34Like I said, for me there, there's really no harm for the
- 15:38Big 12 in doing it personally. I will say though, I think it's
- 15:43smart on Memphis because they recognize realistically out of
- 15:47the power conferences, you know, the Big 12 is probably going to
- 15:51be the best option you have and it's the safest option because
- 15:55out of the Big 12 and the ACC, when all said and done, all the
- 16:00dust settles when it's the Big 10 in the SEC left.
- 16:05I think the Big 12's going to be the the third conference and
- 16:08everybody else is pretty much going to get absorbed into them
- 16:10if you don't go into the Big 10 or the SEC.
- 16:14So I mean, to me, I feel like it's a safer, smarter option
- 16:18because if they go with the ACC route, I think honestly, I give
- 16:23it, I know the current meteorites deal expires in 2036.
- 16:27I give it like maybe five years because the Big 10 and the SEC
- 16:33both can actually renew their media deals and get another huge
- 16:36payout before the ACC is even considering it.
- 16:40I think once that happens and those exit fees drop a little
- 16:43bit, I think Clemson leaves, I think Florida State leaves, I
- 16:46think Miami leaves and I think North Carolina leaves and
- 16:49that'll be enough to potentially break up the ACC as a whole.
- 16:54Yeah, I'm rocking with it. I'm rocking with it.
- 16:56I think this is it's it's going to be kind of cool, man.
- 16:58I think college football 10 years from now is going to look
- 17:00a lot different than it did in just two years ago.
- 17:04Oh yeah. I mean, heck, it looks a lot
- 17:06different. What, 20 years ago when you had,
- 17:08when you still had Big East football, you know, when you had
- 17:11most everything was pretty geographical whatnot.
- 17:14And you know, now it's, yeah, now it's night and day
- 17:16different. Now it's like.
- 17:17Fraternities and like, weird. Yeah, it's fraternities.
- 17:21You've got all the West, you've got a bunch of West Coast
- 17:23schools in the Big 10. It was primarily, you know, the
- 17:26Midwestern Conference and whatnot.
- 17:28Not no more. But sticking with the conference
- 17:31that technically Memphis is still a part of the the American
- 17:37Athletic Conference. The AAC did a rebrand.
- 17:39They are now just the American Conference and their mascot is
- 17:43now an eagle. They've rebranded a little bit
- 17:46and I don't want to go too deep into this because there's,
- 17:49there's only so much you can talk about with that.
- 17:51But it it's interesting that this is a conference that
- 17:53essentially took over for the Big East to start with.
- 17:57You know, all the Big E schools went into the AAC.
- 18:01And of course, those schools have since either they merged
- 18:04into the eighth, most of them merged into the ACC, obviously
- 18:08West Virginia went into the Big 12 and then a few of them kind
- 18:12of got demoted to, you know, a group of five schools.
- 18:14And now they've had to work their way back up.
- 18:17But they've they've since rebranded in into this new
- 18:19entity. And we've kind of seen it as far
- 18:22as college football goes. And I know I know Mike, you're
- 18:25again, you're getting your feet wet as far as college football
- 18:27goes. But you know, you look at a lot
- 18:29of these, you look at the two biggest conferences, you look at
- 18:32the SEC and the Big 10, look at what they've managed to do with
- 18:35their branding. Like the SEC is absolutely huge
- 18:38with its branding and they're not even just including the
- 18:40teams that are in it. You know, obviously if you talk
- 18:44SEC, you immediately think of Bama, you think of Georgia, you
- 18:47think of LSU, you think of Florida, Tennessee, all of these
- 18:51massively big names that you know come associated with that.
- 18:54But the SEC itself as a brand is so well known.
- 18:57And then you look at the Big 10, the Big 10's the exact same way
- 19:00'cause you think the Big 10, you think Ohio State, Michigan, Penn
- 19:03State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, all these big
- 19:07schools. So now the American Conference,
- 19:10while again, probably not as popular, unless you're a fan of,
- 19:13you know, Memphis, Army, Navy, you know, some of these, some of
- 19:17these smaller schools as far as, you know, namings and whatnot.
- 19:20It it it does lead to interest. Do you think that for some of
- 19:24these conferences, especially like the ACC and the Big 12, the
- 19:28big twelves being a little bit better about it as far as
- 19:30pushing their branding out there, getting bigger, you know,
- 19:33bigger school brands and whatnot?
- 19:34Like I said, I think when the meteorites deals expire, because
- 19:39the Big 10 and SEC will be able to renew theirs long before the
- 19:42ACC will, I think not being able to push their brand like the ACC
- 19:48really isn't is going to be what causes the downfall.
- 19:51But do you think for the American conference kind of
- 19:54taking, I don't know how successful it's going to be, but
- 19:57they're taking proactive steps to do it.
- 20:00Do you think that's going to be something that could potentially
- 20:03keep them around? Because realistically, looking
- 20:05at the group of 6, you know, conferences that are out there
- 20:08right now, the American is honestly the the better of the
- 20:12conferences with the teams that you have in it currently.
- 20:15And I'll, I'll read those teams off after after you, after you
- 20:19give your thoughts because I got to look them up.
- 20:21I don't remember them all off the top of my head.
- 20:23Of course, of course. Well, in that case, I'll talk
- 20:26real slow. No, I'm playing.
- 20:28But I think, you know, at the end of the day, man, you have to
- 20:31try a little bit of everything. You know, I think guys are
- 20:33trying to, they're not guys, but just like teams in general are
- 20:36trying to do their best, their ability to try to catch up with
- 20:39what's new, what's hot. You know, how are we going to
- 20:41get everybody to start watching us?
- 20:42How are we going to get all eyes on us even though we don't have,
- 20:45you know, all the endorsements, all the funds, everything we
- 20:47need from these boosters? Yeah, that's a big part of it,
- 20:50man, is the boosters we always, we always talk about like how
- 20:53how many how many random ass alumni's who turned into multi
- 20:56billionaires are funding Ohio State right now?
- 20:59Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. The Ohio State University, you
- 21:02know. They trademarked the.
- 21:04I bet they did. I I blurry again that's what I
- 21:07get. They heard me talking shit.
- 21:08Now they're making my camera blurry.
- 21:10But no, man, I, I think, you know, you have to do everything
- 21:13you possibly can to get to, in order to stay on top, in order
- 21:15to stay in competition. You know what I mean?
- 21:17Like you got Target, who competes with Walmart, who
- 21:20competes with all these different places.
- 21:21And you know, I think everybody's always, and that's
- 21:23just from like a business standpoint, you know, everybody
- 21:25knows, everybody's got the same shit, everybody's doing the same
- 21:29shit. Everybody's slinging the same
- 21:30ball, the same pigskin, the same game, but at the end of the day,
- 21:33there's differences in level of fandom, there's differences in
- 21:36level of, you know, popularity and obviously just having
- 21:39different resources. And sometimes you have to do
- 21:41things out of nothing. You know what I mean?
- 21:43We're the famous movie Moneyball, man.
- 21:45Sometimes you just got to, you just got to work with what you
- 21:47got and you got to find a way to win.
- 21:49And, and I think for me, man, you know, I'm never going to
- 21:51hate on anybody for trying. I think if you're doing it the
- 21:53right way and, and you're trying to, you know, benefit everybody,
- 21:57then I can't be mad at it, You know what I mean?
- 21:59Because I'm in Chicago where the Chicago White Sox organization
- 22:02and the Chicago Bulls organization is ran by the same
- 22:04ownership who kind of just laid down after the 90s.
- 22:08They said, you know what, we got the Jordan era forever.
- 22:11You know, the White Sox won in 2005.
- 22:13We can ride that for another 20 years.
- 22:15You'll never guess what they celebrated this entire month.
- 22:17That's right, the 20 year anniversary, the worst record in
- 22:20baseball in 2024. But they were waiting for that
- 22:2320 year anniversary. But that's what I mean is, is
- 22:26the lack of effort by a lot of organizations and a lot of teams
- 22:31and a lot of schools for that matter.
- 22:33In this case, it, it definitely does rub you the wrong way.
- 22:36But if you're trying to make a difference, you're trying to
- 22:38actually be competitive and staying in that market of, of
- 22:42popularity. I, I mean, I dig it.
- 22:45I don't know if you do. Yeah, I mean, I do, I mean, I, I
- 22:48can't, I can't hate on them for again, at least at least making
- 22:51the effort and at least trying. And I mean, realistically, like
- 22:53I said, they're they're the better of the group of 6, you
- 22:56know, conferences 'cause I mean, you look at who they have.
- 22:58So here are some of their members, both football and non
- 23:01football. You have UAB, you have Eastern,
- 23:05you have East Carolina, you have FAU, who obviously they were,
- 23:09you know, real close to a national title not too long ago.
- 23:12You have Memphis, like we just talked about.
- 23:15You have Charlotte, you have North Texas, you have Rice, you
- 23:19have USF. So you have the Bulls, who
- 23:21again, 20 years ago they were a top program.
- 23:24You have Temple, you have UTSA, you have Tulane, who again, if
- 23:31I'm looking at teams that might potentially make the move to a
- 23:34power conference, Tulane and Memphis, just based off purely
- 23:38off of their performance and whatnot.
- 23:40Those are the two big schools as far as Big Fish left, other than
- 23:44Notre Dame, obviously, But I don't see Notre Dame doing it
- 23:46until you know, hell freezes over damn near you have Tulsa
- 23:52and then even though they don't have a football program anymore,
- 23:54you have Wichita State who pretty solid in basketball, also
- 23:59a part of it. So I mean, again, they try, they
- 24:01try. I know Joy, I know.
- 24:05So funny enough with Tulane being in Louisiana, I never, I
- 24:09never knew the rivalry is bad with Tulane and LSU.
- 24:12And then I looked and saw that Tulane was one of the original
- 24:15members of the SEC and then left, which in nuts to me, by
- 24:19the way, they left Georgia Tech left, and then a school named
- 24:23Swanee also left. But they're like Division Three
- 24:26now. You know, they went on like a
- 24:27crazy run back in like the early 1800s.
- 24:31Wow. They beat like they beat like
- 24:34every school. They went like 12 and
- 24:35undefeated. I think they allowed like 10
- 24:37points all season. Is is nuts.
- 24:40Witchcraft. It was witchcraft.
- 24:41Everybody. Everybody got fired.
- 24:43Got to be got to be. But yeah, it it is interesting
- 24:47that they that they decided to reran again.
- 24:48Don't know how well it's going to do, but we'll see.
- 24:50Well. That's and that's the thing
- 24:51though, bro, at least you at least you get to see, you know
- 24:53what I mean? Like for some organizations,
- 24:56man, like you said, like Notre Dame is going to be the Fighting
- 24:59Irish till the day they find the, the end of the rainbow.
- 25:02Like that's just what it is at the end of the day.
- 25:03So to see change, bro, is is especially in college football
- 25:07is is really cool to me because we talk about like getting guys
- 25:10like me from Chicago to where, you know, hey, look, the Bears
- 25:13are our life, you know, the Bulls through our life, but we
- 25:16really don't watch dot bears. Joy gets it.
- 25:20But you know, we really don't watch college sports for the
- 25:23most part. You know, there's Urbana fans
- 25:25ride deep, but that's all that's two hours away, brother.
- 25:28Like, you know what I mean? Like we no one really watches
- 25:30the Paul. Nobody really watches UIC and
- 25:33that's just what it is. So to to see they're being
- 25:35changed. Hey, if UIC went out there and
- 25:37said, hey, man, look, we really starting to care about care
- 25:40about this program, We're going to make it more fun.
- 25:42I would I would be down. I'd watch it.
- 25:44You know what I mean? Like whatever, but there's no
- 25:46change is is all you need to know.
- 25:48So haven't changed is a good thing I think.
- 25:50Yeah, but we'll, we'll dive into our last topic though before
- 25:54before we end. It'll be a little bit of a short
- 25:56show today. Obviously the NFL last couple
- 25:59weeks has been releasing, all these teams have been releasing
- 26:02new alternate jerseys. Now that the new rule from the
- 26:05NFL came out, you can have I think what 2 alternate jerseys
- 26:08you can wear like 4 times and then obviously you can have a
- 26:11second helmet. Now one of the big rules that
- 26:13people are finally taking advantage of and we've gotten
- 26:16some interesting looks so far from NFL team.
- 26:19So we started with the Commanders.
- 26:21They brought their white uniforms back from their time
- 26:23being the Redskins. Little earlier on, the Saints
- 26:27brought a new white helmet that looks absolutely fire.
- 26:30But then they also released a gold jersey today.
- 26:33Gold jerseys did not hit very well.
- 26:35Joy, I, I don't know if you're a Saints fan, you're going to tell
- 26:37me what you think of the gold jersey.
- 26:38I'll be honest, I wanted the gold jersey to be a little bit
- 26:41darker, but we'll, we'll jump into that here in a second.
- 26:44The Buccaneers released the white version of their
- 26:46Creamsicle uniforms, looking solid.
- 26:49The Chargers released a gold jersey of their own as well, as
- 26:52they brought back the Navy helmet for the Navy jerseys.
- 26:56The Steelers unleashed awfulness, absolutely awfulness
- 27:01with whatever yellow crap they decided to release.
- 27:05And the Bills are scheduled to bring their red helmet back for
- 27:08one game. And then tomorrow on the 23rd,
- 27:10the Packers are supposed to unveil a new alternate uniform
- 27:13and helmet. And then sometime this month,
- 27:15maybe even next month, the Browns are supposed to release a
- 27:18new helmet and the Seahawks are supposed to release a new
- 27:20uniform. But Mike, buddy, in your
- 27:23opinion, Oh, Joy hasn't seen the new Saints unis.
- 27:27Oh, don't worry, Jay, don't worry, Joy.
- 27:29I'll I'll pull it up. Don't don't you worry, don't you
- 27:31worry. But but Mike, in your opinion,
- 27:34you know, out of the teams that have that have released stuff,
- 27:38if if you had to rank them as far as the best to the worst,
- 27:41how would you, how would how would you rank the new jerseys?
- 27:44Yeah, for sure. I'm going to go worst to best
- 27:47for me. First honorable mention at #0
- 27:51I'm going to put the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 27:52It's not Bumblebee Big Ben bad, but it's bad.
- 27:56You know what I mean? Like they did, they did the
- 27:57Bumblebee 1 not too long ago where everybody looked like, you
- 28:00know, they were fresh out of the, you know, the longest yard
- 28:02prison team. Like it was horrible in the 2000
- 28:05tens, but this one is is pretty bad as well.
- 28:08I like the helmet. I just think that jersey looks
- 28:10bad. But the worst one, the worst
- 28:14uniform to be dropped hasn't even been dropped yet.
- 28:16I haven't seen it, don't care to see it.
- 28:18Tony can't even pull it up. The Green Bay Packers.
- 28:20Whatever load of crap they're dropping tomorrow is absolute
- 28:24shit. I don't need to see it.
- 28:25It's terrible and we will Fast forward this tomorrow and I will
- 28:29confirm that DA Bears Next up. I I really do think I'm going to
- 28:34put just like on here. I'm going to put the Saints.
- 28:36Sorry, joy, not really rocking with it.
- 28:39I think the white helmet was super crisp, super clean.
- 28:43But like you said, man, this just gives me like army Notre
- 28:47Dame vibes. Not really feeling it too much.
- 28:49Next one I'm going to go with the chargers.
- 28:52I wasn't really feeling that too much.
- 28:53If you've watched all American that it gives me Spencer James
- 28:56goes to college vibes. Not really digging that too
- 29:00much. And then we're going to get in
- 29:01the top ones. Man.
- 29:02I, I think I'm going to put the commanders kind of just at 3 for
- 29:05me. It's nothing crazy, but it's
- 29:09nice. I, I like it.
- 29:10It, it reminds me a lot of the, you know, I, I hate to even say
- 29:15his name, but it reminds me of the RG3 era and and the Sean
- 29:19Taylor era. Love Sean Taylor, but you know,
- 29:21it reminds me a lot of those guys we grew up loving.
- 29:23Now, I did grow up an RG3 fan. Not going to talk about him in
- 29:26present day. It has not translated since, but
- 29:30it, it was, it does remind me of like our childhood #2 I'm going
- 29:34to put the Buffalo Bills. It's not on here.
- 29:37I know. But the, the red helmet you
- 29:39showed me earlier today that dropped.
- 29:41Don't know if Josh Allen's going to be wearing it in week 17,
- 29:43Week 18, but we'll have to see. It's the last week of the
- 29:46season. Will they be playing?
- 29:47Will they not? I think so.
- 29:48Josh Allen played the last year of last year because of the MVP
- 29:51race. So I I can totally see that
- 29:53happening. Number one, I'm going with the
- 29:55Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I love it Baker being there,
- 29:59Mike Evans, Godwin, I mean the dogs.
- 30:01I mean, you're Bucky Irving. Bucky Irving, the best running
- 30:04back in football in 2025, baby. I'm calling it right now.
- 30:08You know, I'm I'm really excited about this team, man.
- 30:11It's a fun team. They have some swag to them.
- 30:14And I think this is just like this is very Baker, this is very
- 30:18Tampa Bay. So I think it looks clean man,
- 30:20but what about you? Yeah, I'm, I'm not going to
- 30:23deviate too far. I think if I had to give a
- 30:25number one, I'm going to say Tampas, you know, the the white
- 30:27creamsicle, that look looks absolutely solid.
- 30:30And I I feel like with Tampa too, they they stayed with
- 30:33history. They didn't try it.
- 30:34They don't try to do too much as far as like steering away from
- 30:37it. They stay true to like their
- 30:38colors, their color schemes, they don't really try to mess
- 30:41with it too much. And obviously they took
- 30:43literally the 70s and we're like, we're plopping it right
- 30:45back here just in like present day.
- 30:48And, and so I think, I think obviously Tampa Bay's got to be
- 30:511-2. I'm, I'm going to roll with
- 30:53Washington. I feel like again, kind of the,
- 30:55again, the old school feel. I know they had this jersey
- 30:59literally like 5 no like 6 years ago.
- 31:02Like, so it's not that different.
- 31:04But again, they, they like cleaned it up.
- 31:06It's better. All honesty, anything is better
- 31:09than what Washington has right now.
- 31:10Like all the Washington's uniforms are just crap right
- 31:13now. So that they, they, they got to
- 31:15go back to that or something like it.
- 31:17Everything else is just rough. As far as three goes, yeah, I'll
- 31:23I'll probably have to put the chargers at three.
- 31:25I'm not super digging the gold. Like I know they'll probably do
- 31:28gold with gold pants like it. I like the Navy.
- 31:31I like the Navy, the Navy. 'Cause that's like their old
- 31:34school San Diego like style. Like that's when I grew up
- 31:37watching like. Philip Rivers.
- 31:40Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates Lt. Like all of them like that was
- 31:43solid. The yellow.
- 31:45And for you man, does does yellow remind you of like a
- 31:47college team? I know you watch a lot of
- 31:48college ball. It kind of reminds you of like
- 31:50AD 2D3 team that kind of just looking like a highlighter.
- 31:54Kind of maybe. I mean, really what got me was
- 31:57when they when they first broke out the the gold pants, I was
- 32:00like, they look like they peed themselves.
- 32:02Like because it's like bright like they do they look like they
- 32:04peed themselves. Yeah.
- 32:06It's not working. Yeah, and then real quick, I'll,
- 32:10I'll probably put the Saints at 4 again.
- 32:11It's not bad. I feel like if they would have
- 32:13gone a little bit of a darker gold like with their helmet, it
- 32:17would have it would it'd have been fine.
- 32:18Like like truly and honestly, it'd have been fine.
- 32:20And then obviously the Steelers, Steelers are dead last that that
- 32:23Jersey's awful. Like, I don't even know why they
- 32:25tried that. That to me is up there with the
- 32:27Bumblebee uniform. Like the Steelers are oh for two
- 32:30as far as like, alternate throwback jerseys.
- 32:32It it really does look and are you looking at the same picture
- 32:35that I am for it? It's of oh man, it's not.
- 32:38I have the picture of, I think the tight end Pat Pat Fryemouth
- 32:41or however you say his name, bro.
- 32:43He looks like Bumblebee from the Transformers, like it looks like
- 32:46a a robotic jersey, like it just it looks bad, bro.
- 32:49And I'm not thinking that. I don't know why.
- 32:52If there's a history to that that I don't know about in the
- 32:54Pittsburgh area, maybe, but I don't get it.
- 32:57Yeah, I don't either. But Mike, buddy, I appreciate
- 33:00it. Appreciate everybody tuning in
- 33:01and watching. I will, I will be back next
- 33:05week. Mike will not.
- 33:06Mike's going to be hopefully in vacation in Florida.
- 33:09But appreciate you being here, buddy.
- 33:10And we'll, I'll be back next week.
- 33:13We'll talk a little bit of sports and whatnot and we'll see
- 33:15y'all later, ladies and gentlemen.
- 33:19Thanks.
