- 0:27nashvillepredators.com This is the Predators official podcast
- 0:32live from Smashville You're on your radio home for Preds hockey
- 0:35ESPN one O 2 five and one O 6 three.
- 0:38The game three of the next 4 Preds games are at home starting
- 0:42Saturday night in Smashville. 6 O clock this Saturday, early
- 0:47start because of Hockey Night in Canada for the Predators and The
- 0:50Jets, then a road game in New Jersey on Monday and then two
- 0:54big home games sandwiching Thanksgiving.
- 0:56Thanksgiving eve, Wednesday night against the Flyers at
- 1:00seven at Bridgestone Arena and Friday Black Friday AKA Gold
- 1:05Friday afternoon at 2:00 against the Lightning.
- 1:09So three big home games coming up this week for the Predators
- 1:12who finished up their five game road trip with a 1-2 and two
- 1:16overall record. Preds are now 611 and three as
- 1:20we hit the quarter point of this season.
- 1:22Crazy to think about. My name is Max Hurst from Preds
- 1:25radio. She is Kara Hammer from Preds
- 1:27TV. Hello Hammer.
- 1:29What's up, Max? I think looking back at this
- 1:32road trip and now that the boys are home, I think maybe one word
- 1:35to describe it or sum it up would be frustration.
- 1:39And let's get it straight into this because this is new, this
- 1:42is fresh. The boys are coming straight off
- 1:45of practice. And you told me there was some
- 1:47frustration already happening today on the ice.
- 1:50Yeah, we had a practice fight today on Friday, November 22nd
- 1:53at Fred's practice. And if you had asked me this
- 1:57morning who is the most likely Preds player to be involved in a
- 2:01practice fight, I would have said without a doubt, Michael
- 2:06McCarron. If you were to ask me who would
- 2:10be the other person in that practice fight, I wouldn't have
- 2:14been sure. I would have had some guesses,
- 2:16but I I really wouldn't have had a firm guess.
- 2:21But I can tell you for a fact, Kara, I would not have named
- 2:25Luke Evangelista to be the person fighting with Michael
- 2:28McCarron and actually initiating the whole thing in Pred's
- 2:31practice today, the largest Pred against perhaps the slimmest
- 2:37Pred. Going back, back to where I I've
- 2:39seen a a few little tussles at practice.
- 2:43I think it always comes from the younger guys.
- 2:45I mean, looking back at a camp, I think one time it was Roman
- 2:48Yossi and Craig Smith. Like, you know, I now I would
- 2:51never picture Yost getting into something like this happening,
- 2:53but frustration, you know, at the end of the day, though,
- 2:57those guys are boys. They're going to, they're going
- 2:59to work it out, right? Oh yeah, and Andrew Brunette and
- 3:03Luke Evangelista said as much after practice.
- 3:05But the frustration comes from Evangelista, who was a healthy
- 3:08scratch on Wednesday. Based on the lines they showed
- 3:11at practice today. Looks like he'll be a healthy
- 3:13scratch again on Saturday. And Andrew Brunette told us on
- 3:16Preds radio this week he wants Evangelista to get a bit of a
- 3:19longer sit to come out for at least a couple games, was what
- 3:23Brunette implied. So I think Evangelist will be
- 3:27out again on Saturday. That has nothing to do with what
- 3:29happened in practice. That was already the plan going
- 3:31in. But he he laid a bit of a hit on
- 3:34Michael McCarron that McCarron was not happy with.
- 3:36He went right after him. Some other guys separated them.
- 3:39They also crossed paths on the way off.
- 3:42A little parting blow from Michael McCarron for
- 3:44Evangelista. And McCarron went straight off
- 3:47after practice ended, undressed and left the locker room as the
- 3:50first guy out. So I think it was time.
- 3:54I, I think it was time for something like this to happen.
- 3:56Kara, the Preds are in last in the NHL.
- 3:59They should be nowhere close to that with everybody they got on
- 4:02this team. It's time for things to start
- 4:05happening, and this is what happens when things need to
- 4:07start happening. This is something that I I can't
- 4:11wait to to get back and and have a conversation with Ryan
- 4:14O'Reilly about Max because he was on a Saint Louis Blues team
- 4:18who in the month of January was in last place in the National
- 4:22Hockey League and turn around and won a Stanley Cup.
- 4:25So I feel like he's the right guy to have in the locker room
- 4:28right now to, to to show proof we can turn things around.
- 4:32We can find a way to do this. It just what's it going to take?
- 4:37Yep, and today it took a little rough stuff at the end of a long
- 4:41hard practice at Centennial Sportsplex here at Nashville
- 4:44going into a home game tomorrow night, Saturday night.
- 4:47Many of you will be hearing this on Saturday on One O 25, the
- 4:50game Saturday night in Smashville against the Winnipeg
- 4:52Jets. And the good news is The Jets
- 4:55will be on the back end of a back-to-back for this game.
- 4:57They play in Pittsburgh on Friday night against the
- 5:00Penguins Predators, of course, coming off a long road trip.
- 5:05And it looks like the Predators will be missing Connor
- 5:08Hellebach, who is scheduled to start on Friday night.
- 5:11So that is a plus for the Preds going into this game.
- 5:13They'll take whatever they can get at this point after a 1-2
- 5:17and two road trip. Kara, we had a podcast one game
- 5:20into this road trip. I feel like that was three years
- 5:23ago. Since then, an overtime loss in
- 5:27Edmonton, A2 nothing shut out loss in Calgary last Friday
- 5:31night, A53 win on Sunday night in Vancouver against the Canucks
- 5:35in a playoff rematch. And then Wednesday night shut
- 5:38out again in a three nothing loss to the Kraken in Seattle.
- 5:42So the Preds made it clear they wanted at least half the points
- 5:45available to them on this road trip.
- 5:48They end up with four out of 10, and I think that last loss
- 5:53against Seattle could have been a defining moment to make the
- 5:56road trip a 5050 or better split with either an overtime point or
- 6:01a second win in a row, and instead they get shut out again
- 6:04and feel like they have to go back to their building blocks.
- 6:07Yeah, I think the Seattle loss was definitely tough, especially
- 6:10after they were so dominating against Vancouver and so many
- 6:14highlights in that game, right? Zach LaRue scores his first NHL
- 6:18goal. Stephen Stamkos breaks Yaramir
- 6:21Yogurt's record for most power play goals.
- 6:24So a lot of highlights. It was a little surprising.
- 6:27Definitely a disappointing result to end the road trip with
- 6:29Joey Decord in the crack and shutting out the Preds on
- 6:32Wednesday night on TNT. Sunday night, one of the best
- 6:36wins of the season so far. As you said, Kara, it was
- 6:39milestones for everybody. And after the game, the post
- 6:44game shovel because it's time to dig the bleep in and rope beach
- 6:50toy 'cause everybody's got to be pulling the rope.
- 6:53We're passed around plenty of times, starting with Roman
- 6:57Yossi, Zach LaRue at his first NHL goal, Roman Yossi at his
- 7:01700th NHL point, Yuso Parson and played his 100th NHL regular
- 7:05season game, and Steven Stamkos had two massive power play goals
- 7:09to get him past the great Yarmir Yager for 11th most in NHL
- 7:12history. Try and keep up with all the
- 7:15milestones in this locker room in Vancouver.
- 7:18Enjoy. See first goal baby.
- 7:27On the games party. Congrats.
- 7:31Wait, Steve Sankos passes the Army yogurt.
- 7:34What are my goals? Financial history. 700 points.
- 7:51Hi, Phil. That's a massive win.
- 7:53We did dig in. Win.
- 7:54Pull the rope. See.
- 7:56Congratulations, Jogger. Hey, we don't.
- 8:07Lose on these nights. Hey boys.
- 8:08But no seriously, way to dig in. We talked about let's get more
- 8:12points and games played on the road.
- 8:13We're still on track so. Pull on this one tonight.
- 8:23Only 7. 100 More to catch Tamer The voices in that, in order,
- 8:28were Roman Yossi, Ryan O'Reilly, Philip Forsberg, Steven Samkos
- 8:35and Zach Larood. Did I get that right?
- 8:36There was. There was a lot of post game
- 8:39party favors going around. You got that.
- 8:41And if you missed the video, you really need to go watch it
- 8:44because I still haven't figured out quite yet what factor was
- 8:47doing that's Ryan O'Reilly. Was he making the Diggy motion
- 8:51they dug in? Was he pretending he was Sam
- 8:53Coast like shooting the power play goal?
- 8:55I just, I've watched that on repeat numerous times and I have
- 8:59just been laughing every single time I watch it.
- 9:02I think you're exactly right. And big credit to Ethan Fleming
- 9:05and the Predators video department for filming and
- 9:08editing that ridiculous video. It's on Fred's Twitter.
- 9:11You'll have to scroll back to Sunday at Fred's NHL.
- 9:14But yeah, O'Reilly is in the corner.
- 9:16He's he's digging the shovel. And then you nailed it.
- 9:21He's doing the Stamkos one timer and he's making the most
- 9:24ridiculous factor faces of all time.
- 9:28You know, again, like we just mentioned, coming off of that,
- 9:31it it's so surprising that the guys didn't come out and have a
- 9:34dominating win against Seattle. It felt like the vibes were so
- 9:38high. It felt like they were buzzy.
- 9:39They were playing together. I think that kind of just sums
- 9:41up what what Bruno said about the road trip.
- 9:44He said, hey, we showed really good, really good parts of
- 9:47ourselves, a really good side of ourselves.
- 9:49But then there were those small details that just were
- 9:52catastrophic. Yeah, and that Vancouver win,
- 9:56definitely a high point. It ends on another low .2 out of
- 9:59three shutout losses to end the trip after two overtime losses
- 10:03to start it. Preds do feel like they deserve
- 10:05better, but they're really having to work really hard for
- 10:09everything right now. So the struggles continue really
- 10:11across the board for this Predators team, for everybody
- 10:14other than UC Soros, who continues to give them a chance.
- 10:16And I, I don't want to think about what their record would be
- 10:20without Soros playing well right now.
- 10:22They've won 6 of 20 games with him at his best.
- 10:25SO it it would be a whole lot worse without Soros being a stud
- 10:30back there that he has been in a lot of losing efforts through no
- 10:33fault of his own. Another fun moment on the trip.
- 10:36We talked last week that Grey Cup day was the same day the
- 10:41Preds played the Canucks literally right next door in
- 10:43Vancouver and I did not go to the game.
- 10:46You would have only been able to go to the first half.
- 10:48The Jonas Brothers ended up playing while we were eating our
- 10:51pregame meal in the arena in Vancouver, so we did get to see
- 10:54the performance on TV. It was lovely but sad I couldn't
- 10:58go. But the Preds did run into the
- 11:01Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts after their respective
- 11:05wins in Vancouver that night. And Steven Stamkos and Luke
- 11:09Shen, 2 proud Canadians, got their pictures and got to hoist
- 11:14the Grey Cup. Oh my gosh, that's the coolest
- 11:17thing ever. It's just like so Canadian of
- 11:20them, right? Well, especially especially for
- 11:23Shen because our number one observation of the Grey Cup Fan
- 11:29Fest and just everybody walking around throughout the weekend
- 11:31and game day while we were there in Vancouver, by far the most
- 11:35heavily represented fan base was the Saskatchewan Rough Riders
- 11:41who were not playing in the game.
- 11:43Their fans just go every year. OK, so I have to tell a story.
- 11:48While you guys were on the road I actually took a little trip
- 11:51out to Disneyland and while I was on the ride the man next to
- 11:55me was wearing a Rough Riders hat and I asked him, oh the Grey
- 12:00Cup that's happening and he said we got knocked out at the round
- 12:04before. We will not be playing in it
- 12:06this year but expect us to be back next season.
- 12:10All right, yeah, Well, Luke Shannon is a proud Sasky boy.
- 12:13He got to hoist the Grey Cup and he said it's almost as heavy as
- 12:17Stanley. So him and Stephen Stamkos were
- 12:20excited. I mean, they those are two guys
- 12:21with their names on the Stanley Cup nervous and excited to go up
- 12:26and ask if they can hoist the Grey Cup.
- 12:29So Yep, pretty funny. Pretty funny.
- 12:32Ultra all trophies converge in Canada there, but Stamkos had
- 12:35two power play goals in that game, his first multi goal game
- 12:39as a Predator. And as you heard, he passed Mike
- 12:43Gartner and Jaramir Yauger for 11th all time in NHL history in
- 12:48power play goals. He has 219 of them.
- 12:51He's 13 away from getting into the top ten with Dino Ciccarelli
- 12:54up next. The number one power play goal
- 12:57scorer is Alex Ovechkin with 316.
- 13:02That's 97 more than Stamkos, who is 11th.
- 13:06So he's going to have to keep working hard to catch Ovi as
- 13:10Ovi's had an awesome season so far.
- 13:12But awesome milestone. Anytime you pass Yarmir Yauger
- 13:15in any stat, it's pretty good because he played like 35 years
- 13:19in the NHL. Yeah, that's amazing.
- 13:22And although we are the Predators official podcast, I
- 13:24think we're all here right on the OV watch.
- 13:26I think he was just listed that he's going to be out four to six
- 13:29weeks. But Max, do you think he's going
- 13:30to get it this season? Do you think OV is still going
- 13:33to break Gretzky's record? After the injury, probably not
- 13:36sadly, but seeing them in person 3 weeks ago, I said on the
- 13:40podcast, the Capitals look really good.
- 13:43They look really good. So maybe they're peaking too
- 13:45early, but they look great right now and they've been strong at
- 13:49pretty much everything the Preds have been deficient in so far
- 13:51this season. So we'll see if those things
- 13:53turn around later in the year. But the Preds still looking for
- 13:56way, way, way, way, way more five on five in every regard.
- 14:01Jonathan Marshiso still does not have a single five on five point
- 14:05in his first 20 games as a Predator.
- 14:07Philip Forsberg did not score a goal on the road trip.
- 14:10Ryan O'Reilly is in A10 plus game goal drought.
- 14:14A lot of things are going to have to turn here for the Preds.
- 14:16They got to get goals going, they got to start making plays,
- 14:19and it's going to have to start against the team off to the best
- 14:22start in NHL history, the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night
- 14:26in Smashville. The game is Saturday night at
- 14:29six. Many of you are listening to
- 14:31this on 102.5, either the morning of the game or on the
- 14:34way to the game, so thanks for listening to Preds radio on your
- 14:37way down. The game is at six on Saturday
- 14:39night, November 23rd against The Jets.
- 14:42Be in your seats early, it's Hockey Night in Canada.
- 14:44It is also Hockey Hall of Fame Night and the Preds will welcome
- 14:48their two homegrown Hall of Famers, the recently inducted
- 14:51General manager David Poyle and Captain Shay Weber.
- 14:55They will be on the ice for a pregame ceremonial puck drop.
- 14:58So make sure you are in your seats right at six for the boys
- 15:02to take the ice. The puck drop, the national
- 15:04anthems Hockey Night in Canada and Saturday night in Smashville
- 15:08for the Predators and The Jets. 2 more home games this week
- 15:11around Thanksgiving as well. Wednesday night, Thanksgiving
- 15:14Eve, a lot of people's favorite day of the year.
- 15:17Kara, I'm a big Thanksgiving eve fan.
- 15:19Awesome, underrated, made-up but very real holiday fun night.
- 15:24Everybody be back in Smashville. We welcome home so many of our
- 15:27great fans who are from here but no longer live here.
- 15:31It'll be an awesome atmosphere. So great to have everybody back
- 15:34home. Looking forward to seeing you
- 15:35guys. Wednesday night against the
- 15:37Flyers at 7:00 and then Black Friday afternoon as Black Friday
- 15:42becomes Gold Friday. Preds and Lightning at 2:00,
- 15:46Friday afternoon at Bridgestone Arena.
- 15:49Two home games on each side of Thanksgiving.
- 15:51Should be a lot of fun this week. 3 big home games on
- 15:54premium nights, Gold games here in Smashville.
- 15:57When we come back we'll talk more about Shay Weber who is in
- 16:00Smashville and spoke to media on Friday morning before he drops
- 16:03the ceremonial puck in his Hockey Hall of Fame Blazer on
- 16:07Saturday night in Smashville. She is Kara Hammer from Fred's
- 16:10TV. I'm Max Herz from Preds Radio.
- 16:12You are listening to the Predators official podcast here
- 16:15on ESPN. One O 2 five and one O 6 three.
- 16:17The Game Your radio home for Nashville Predators hockey.
- 16:58Welcome back to the Predators official podcast here on ESPN.
- 17:02One O 2 five and one O 6 three. The game which is always your
- 17:07radio home for Nashville Predators hockey.
- 17:09My name is Max, Hers from Predators Radio joined by Kara
- 17:13Hammer from Preds TV. As always, Saturday night in
- 17:16Smashville coming your way. Saturday night, November 23rd.
- 17:20Predators and Winnipeg Jets first of four meetings this
- 17:24season between the teams currently at the top of the
- 17:27Central Division and the bottom of the Central Division.
- 17:30Preds will be looking to take down the top dogs.
- 17:33The Jets are off to the hottest start in NHL history.
- 17:39History, Kara. That is not hyperbole.
- 17:41That is statistical fact. They are 16 and 3 going into
- 17:45their game Friday night in Pittsburgh to start this
- 17:47back-to-back. That is pretty good.
- 17:51That is really good, but I'm hoping that with Shay Weber in
- 17:53the building and David Foyle in attendance that the the the
- 17:57Preds and The Jets will have a little bit of that old rivalry
- 18:01feeling, remember? That.
- 18:03Yeah, you know, almost a decade ago when the, when they really
- 18:06used to, to go at it and get us all, you know, they, they just
- 18:10set the tone. It used to be such a fun
- 18:12rivalry. And I'm hoping that they they
- 18:14bring a little bit of that on Saturday night.
- 18:16Yeah, Shay Weber and David Poyle went into the Hockey Hall of
- 18:19Fame last weekend, I guess 2 weekends ago now.
- 18:22Time is a flat circle at this point after the road trip, but
- 18:25if you want to hear more about that, go to our last episode.
- 18:27Brooks Bratton was there reporting on the whole thing and
- 18:30talked with us about it and gave us some great detail on the
- 18:33speeches and the celebrations for Shay Weber and David Poyle
- 18:36who are truly Kara. The 1st 2 Preds Hockey Hall of
- 18:40Farmers, Paul Korea and Peter Forsberg are in, but those are
- 18:44not guys who were primarily Preds, were not home grown
- 18:48Preds. We love them and we claim them,
- 18:51but these two are the first of many at a next level going into
- 18:54the Hockey Hall of Fame from Smashville.
- 18:57Yeah, it's going to be such a special night being able to
- 18:59honor these two. I'm I'm really looking forward
- 19:02to it. So before the game, David Poyle
- 19:04and Shay Weber will drop the ceremonial first puck and we'll
- 19:07honor them in Smashville. So make sure you're in your
- 19:09seats right around 6:00, as early as you can.
- 19:12For Saturday night's game against The Jets.
- 19:14David Poyle was in Nashville and still spends a large portion of
- 19:17his time living here. He was in Nashville a couple of
- 19:21weeks before the Hockey Hall of Fame induction for his Hockey
- 19:24Hall of Fame Blazer Fitting, which we talked about on the
- 19:27podcast a few weeks ago. Basically, he was measured by
- 19:31his tailor in front of a a live studio audience at Bridgestone
- 19:34Arena, which was quite enjoyable to watch.
- 19:37And now Shay Weber has made his return.
- 19:39He flew with the Preds back from Seattle.
- 19:42He lives in British Columbia, joined the Preds in Seattle,
- 19:45flew back with the team after the game on Wednesday, was at
- 19:48practice today and spoke to media before Preds practice
- 19:53about what it meant to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame and said a
- 19:55lot of the same things that he did up in Toronto.
- 19:58But a couple of Preds specific questions from Shay Weber that
- 20:01we want to play for you first, talking about the new captain.
- 20:05I was going to say his successor as Captain Kara, but Mike Fisher
- 20:09got a year in between, so does that still count?
- 20:11Roman Yossi, the successor of Shay Weber's captaincy.
- 20:16No, I feel like, I feel like Mike Fisher taking that year
- 20:19wearing the seat doesn't make him the successor.
- 20:22I mean, he he maybe next in line.
- 20:25I don't. Know he's as grand little, I
- 20:26guess, if they're going to be a sorority family of Prince
- 20:29captains. But anyway, Shay Shay Weber had
- 20:32some very sweet comments about following Roman Yossi's career
- 20:35and being involved in his family life.
- 20:37Here's Shay Weber. Yeah, we still stay in touch.
- 20:39And last time I was here, I got to go out and meet his kids.
- 20:42And, you know, full circle for me because it's before it was
- 20:46him with my kids and now I came back and got to meet his.
- 20:49And I mean, he's a tremendous hockey player.
- 20:52He was when I played with him. I was grateful to have him as my
- 20:55partner and definitely keeping tabs on on how he's doing.
- 20:59Isn't that sweet? It's so sweet, you know, did you
- 21:02also hear what Roman said about Shay?
- 21:05It was almost the same thing he said.
- 21:06I I used to sit next to you in the locker room and he goes, I
- 21:08admired you. I've looked up to you.
- 21:13That's awesome. Well that's the Preds family
- 21:15right there. The defenseman passing the torch
- 21:17on down and all of a sudden Yossi is 2 years past Shay
- 21:21Webber for the longest tenured captain in Preds history.
- 21:26So I miss flying. Yeah, eight seasons with the C
- 21:29for Roman Yosi, 6 for Shay Weber, who used to have the
- 21:33title. So I think he's to be honored
- 21:35that he was passed in that way. So great to hear from Shay Weber
- 21:38that he and Roman Yosi are still so close.
- 21:41And yeah, it was. It was young Yos playing with
- 21:43Shay's kids, and now it's old Shay meeting Yosi's little kids.
- 21:48So pretty cool. Excuse me, Yosi.
- 21:52Shay Weber, the Hockey Hall of Famer, was also asked by the
- 21:56great Pete Weber no relation about shouting out legendary
- 22:01Predators locker room attendant and soon to be 60 year old Craig
- 22:06partner Baugh in his Hockey Hall of Fame speech.
- 22:09What about your mentioning a partner in your speech?
- 22:13Well, you can't forget partner. I mean that guy since day one,
- 22:17you know, he's just, he's such a great personality.
- 22:20He's such a good guy. Everyone knows him.
- 22:23He's he's just such a positive influence.
- 22:27And yeah, I couldn't not, couldn't not bring them up.
- 22:30Have you ever? Had your ribs broken by a
- 22:32partner hook? Today was pretty close.
- 22:34That was a long 1. Today it's it was.
- 22:38I knew it was coming. I, you know, did a little
- 22:40stretching before, but it was amazing.
- 22:42Yeah, it was good. Great to see you this morning.
- 22:45A big Smashville welcome home from partner for Shay Weber.
- 22:50It's the bus. I mean, when partner gives the
- 22:52hugs, when the guys come back, I always think about the time when
- 22:55Scott Hartnell went up and surprised him.
- 22:57And that video made its rounds on social media.
- 22:59And I mean, it's a bear hug. You're in there for a good long
- 23:03while. Yeah, I I guess it's good that
- 23:09he only hugs the guys on the other team so our guys don't get
- 23:13injured because of it. I think so.
- 23:16I also I feel like also Max on on Saturday night.
- 23:19This is a great time if you have a Shay Weber jersey to to bring
- 23:22it back out, get the sweater going.
- 23:24Let's like show some love for Weber wise back in the building.
- 23:27Yeah, I love it. And our fans do a great job of
- 23:30wearing jerseys of guys who are in the building for the other
- 23:33team or for whatever reason they're appropriate for that
- 23:36match up. People do a good job picking out
- 23:38the right sweater, and I know you're exactly right.
- 23:42Lots of folks still got their Shay Weber sweaters in their
- 23:44closets. So yeah, wear them.
- 23:47Make it happen. Make sure you get in your seats
- 23:49early. Tickets are still available for
- 23:50that game as well. For the game Saturday night in
- 23:53Smashville, Predators and Winnipeg Jets.
- 23:55David Poyle, the original GM, and Shay Weber, I can we say the
- 24:00captain, one of many captains, but in my head and he's always
- 24:04going to be the captain. Fun fact, he was the first
- 24:09hockey player I ever met on my first day when I joined News 2,
- 24:13and my first story I ever covered was a morning skate.
- 24:17And he was the first professional athlete.
- 24:19And I guess in local Nashville, obviously I'd worked around
- 24:22professional athletes before, but the first local professional
- 24:25athlete I went up and was introduced to to the captain,
- 24:28Shay Weber, He was the guy. Kara Hammer starting at the top.
- 24:34Working my way up. That's awesome.
- 24:37Yeah. So David Boyle and Shay Weber
- 24:38will be honored before the game. And we talked last week with
- 24:41Brooks. Go back and listen to that
- 24:43episode if you have in our most recent episode talking about the
- 24:46Hockey Hall of Fame. I just the most touching thing
- 24:49for me from those speeches is Shay Weber, who's the big,
- 24:54tough, physical, hard nosed, 105 mile an hour, slap shot
- 24:58defenseman talking about his family, his late mom, the
- 25:02sacrifices his dad made working at the sawmill so that he and
- 25:07his brother could play hockey and continue to play hockey as
- 25:10teenagers and do so at a high level at that just hit home for
- 25:14me 'cause it's, I don't know. You think about Shay Weber in
- 25:17such a different light on the ice and so many folks in
- 25:20Smashville, especially those who met him through a, a charity
- 25:23work or community contacts, which I know was a lot of you,
- 25:27you see that more human loving side of him.
- 25:30And I think they combine to make such a special person.
- 25:33And there's a reason why he was so successful and so special
- 25:38here for such a long time. Yeah, I mean, think about, you
- 25:41know, his 365 foundation that him and Pecorine started.
- 25:46I mean, he's just given so back so much back to the community
- 25:50and he really is just a great person.
- 25:52Yeah. And well, in the Shay Weber talk
- 25:54on this, they still have not issued jersey number six since
- 25:59he was traded away. So we'll save that one for
- 26:02later. But Hockey Hall of Fame Day,
- 26:03Saturday night in Smashville, Predators and Winnipeg Jets on
- 26:06Saturday night, that's November 23rd.
- 26:08Many of you are listening on the radio on Saturday, November
- 26:1123rd. If you're headed to the game,
- 26:14first of all, you better be headed to the game.
- 26:16But second of all, get there early.
- 26:18Be in your seats at six O clock. Puck drop will be around 6:15
- 26:21for that ceremonial face off on Hockey Night in Canada.
- 26:24Preds and Jets Shay Weber and David Poyle back together as
- 26:28Hockey Hall of Farmers in Smashville.
- 26:31We'll take a break, come back, tell you about an exciting
- 26:34update for Predators TV viewers here in Nashville.
- 26:38Plus some things to get you ready for Thanksgiving, the
- 26:41Christmas season and more with your Preds.
- 26:44She's scary Hammer from Fred's TV.
- 26:46I'm Max hers from Fred's radio. You're listening to the
- 26:48Predators official podcast here on your exclusive radio home for
- 26:52Fred's hockey. This is ESPN1O25 and one O 6
- 26:55three the game. Welcome back to the predators
- 27:26official podcast here on ESPN 102.5 and 106.3 the game little
- 27:32ZZ Top for you coming back trying to play the jams for you
- 27:35here on the POP. My name is Max Hurst from Preds
- 27:38radio along with Kara Hammer from Preds TV.
- 27:42Kara. I had AI had a fan tweet at me
- 27:44some point during last season. It's probably a fan who listens
- 27:47to every episode so I feel bad. I can't remember who it is but
- 27:50they wanted me to make APO playlist of all the intro songs
- 27:55for segments and I absolutely should have done it.
- 27:58It was a great idea and I think we're just in too deep right
- 28:01now. It's too late.
- 28:03I feel like this could be an offseason job for you, like go
- 28:06back, play some. I mean, when, when you were
- 28:09producing and Brooks was running the podcast with Thomas, I mean,
- 28:14they're, those are like 2 musical guys.
- 28:17They weren't really bringing it. I I'm impressed that you still
- 28:19have some some tunes coming out. Yeah, I'm, I have, I don't have
- 28:23as deep of a archive as they do, but I also think I'm a little
- 28:27more diverse. Their music kind of all fell
- 28:30into the same category that I don't know how to describe it.
- 28:32So I just call it Brooks and Thomas Music.
- 28:37Well, for those who don't know, Brooks Bratton's brother-in-law
- 28:40is Ryan Hurd. So he's kind of married into a
- 28:42musical family now. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:44And they interviewed Ryan Hurd on this podcast before Brooks
- 28:49had even met his sister Amy, who is now Brooks's wife.
- 28:55It's all meant to be. It's crazy, but yeah, we got a
- 28:58we'll get the playlist going. I don't know.
- 29:00Yeah. Remind me in the summer.
- 29:02Oh, remind me. Remind me during the Olympic
- 29:03break. Actually, maybe that's when we
- 29:05can do it. We could put together like a
- 29:07Spotify. Yeah, yeah, PO playlist, POPPO
- 29:12playlist. Yeah, Predator's official
- 29:14playlist. Yeah, we can make that happen
- 29:16for sure. But I did shout out to Thomas
- 29:18Willis, who we love. I did see him at a game as a fan
- 29:20recently with his lovely wife, who's a big Ole Miss fan.
- 29:24And she was excited that I said Hotty Toddy on the air to start
- 29:28the pregame show because we were playing the Ole Miss game and it
- 29:33went long and we had to take it off the air with 30 seconds
- 29:36left. But they were winning by 20.
- 29:37It was, I think they'd beat Georgia.
- 29:39It was a big upset. But she said, did Max just say
- 29:44Hotty Toddy? And Thomas was like, I don't
- 29:47know. I don't, I tune out everything
- 29:49Max says. I think that's what he said.
- 29:50So. But yeah, anyway, they were
- 29:52listening right around this exact time when this podcast
- 29:55will play before the game on Saturday.
- 29:57So maybe we'll catch the Willis's again.
- 29:59A lovely family. I think they have eight kids by
- 30:02now, but we miss Thomas. Brooks is back, but everyone
- 30:06asks him, where's Thomas? They're inseparable.
- 30:11Brooks is back. I've enjoyed having him back.
- 30:12He does such great coverage of the team.
- 30:14And we had some big news come out over the week too, Max huge.
- 30:19Do you want, do you want, do you want to break this?
- 30:21This is like breaking news that we have happening.
- 30:23Fred's TV Kara, take it. Tell him.
- 30:26All right, Preds TV has partnered with Scripps sports
- 30:30and if you don't know who that is, that's news Channel 5 local
- 30:33in Nashville and we're going to simulcast three games this
- 30:38season. Well, maybe, maybe it could be
- 30:42more, I don't know. We have 3 for sure, November
- 30:4430th at Minnesota, December 14th at Colorado and December 27th at
- 30:49Saint Louis where you could just tune into News Channel 5 and
- 30:54watch us, our FanDuel Sports Network.
- 30:56So, so the our local broadcasters, myself, Lindsay
- 30:59Rally, Hal Gill, Chris Mason, Willie Donnick will all be on
- 31:02the call, but you'll be getting it for free.
- 31:05I think we're going into like 2.5 million homes across Middle
- 31:08Tennessee. Yeah, it's awesome.
- 31:10The games will still air in the way they always air on FanDuel
- 31:13Sports Book, but they will also play on news Channel 5.
- 31:17That's Channel 5 in Nashville 5-1 like not 5 dash two or three
- 31:22or one of those crazy antenna extra channels. 3 Rd. games
- 31:26between now and New Year's all either Friday or Saturday
- 31:29nights. Next Saturday November 30th is
- 31:33the first one in Minnesota, Saturday December 14th and
- 31:38Friday, December 27th, the first game after Christmas.
- 31:40They will all be on news Channel 5.
- 31:42That's Nashville's CBS affiliate.
- 31:45And the big news is that Channel obviously is available a lot of
- 31:49places with a free antenna. That's big.
- 31:51It's also on YouTube TV and some of the other outlets where we
- 31:55know fans have not been able to watch every game.
- 31:58So here's my challenge for everybody.
- 32:00Hammer, you ready? I'm.
- 32:02Ready. I need everybody to watch the
- 32:05games on News Channel 5. They're all Rd. games.
- 32:08If you travel to see the Preds on the road, you're excused, but
- 32:11if you're home, we need you to watch the game and set your
- 32:13DVRS, especially those of you with YouTube TV, record the game
- 32:18off News Channel 5. The more people who watch it, we
- 32:22want to know you love it and we know you will love it.
- 32:26I mean, I love it. I this is a great thing, you
- 32:29know, obviously people know I, I spent a lot of time in Colorado
- 32:32and it's something that's happened out here.
- 32:34The altitude TV does the Avalanche and the Nuggets, and
- 32:37they've been put it on on a local channel, the local NBC
- 32:40station out here. And it provides people like my,
- 32:42my parents an opportunity to watch the game.
- 32:44And it's not something they always had access to.
- 32:47So I think it's great. I think it's going to grow the
- 32:50sport of hockey in Nashville. It's already huge, but you know,
- 32:54just to get into more homes, get more people involved.
- 32:57I love this Max. Yeah.
- 32:59And we can, we can speak on behalf of other people who work
- 33:02at the Preds behind the scenes. They understand that many of you
- 33:06are not able to watch the games in the way that you would like,
- 33:09and this is a step towards that and they're working for you.
- 33:11So very appreciative of everybody involved.
- 33:14Yeah. It's great.
- 33:16It's great. So I thank you to everybody at
- 33:18News Channel 5, at FanDuel Sports and at the Preds for
- 33:23their cooperation on this. Three Rd. games will be on News
- 33:26Channel 5 in addition to their usual home on the recently
- 33:29rebranded FanDuel Sports Network.
- 33:31Saturday November 30th 7:00 at Minnesota Saturday December 14th
- 33:368:00 at Colorado or as Kara would say Colorado and Friday
- 33:40night December 27th are very short stay in Saint Louis.
- 33:45Friday December 27th the first day after first game after
- 33:49Christmas at 7:00 PM. Some other things we want to
- 33:52tell you about here related to the holidays.
- 33:56If you have a Preds fan in your life that you still need a
- 33:59Christmas gift for The 2025 Nashville Predators Player
- 34:04calendar is available for order now.
- 34:06It features Preds players with animals from the Nashville Zoo,
- 34:12featuring an extremely rare sighting of the rhinoceros
- 34:20Rhinosaurus, a rhinoceros with UC sorrows.
- 34:25Did that? Did that pun come out?
- 34:27Did it land at all? I didn't get it the first time,
- 34:29but I got the sorrows the second time.
- 34:31Yeah, it it lands better in print or my jokes are just
- 34:34terrible, it might be part of the problem.
- 34:37But anyway, you can get the rare rhinoceros, Rhinosaurus, and
- 34:43neither of those really works. It's better when you type it
- 34:45out, but you can get that rare animal and other animals with
- 34:50other Preds players on the 2025 Preds Player Calendar.
- 34:54All benefits go to the Preds Foundation and Nashville Zoo, so
- 34:57it's for a good cause. Calendars are $20 each, or you
- 35:01can get 2 for $30. Go to
- 35:04nashvillepredators.com/calendar to make that happen.
- 35:08Nashville predators.com/calendar to place your donation and order
- 35:14for the Preds 2025 player calendar.
- 35:17Any animals you would like to see with specific predators?
- 35:21Kara, it may be too late, but any good combinations in your
- 35:25head? I'm a big fan of the flamingos
- 35:28at the Nashville Zoo, so I don't know, maybe who would I like to
- 35:35see standing on one leg? I maybe Mccarrick, you know,
- 35:38because he's so big. Let's see, let's check his
- 35:40balance. I think Colton Sissons might
- 35:42have the poise of a Flamingo. One other holiday related note,
- 35:46Kara, I want to pass on to everybody.
- 35:48The Preds will be hosting another Jewish Community night,
- 35:51which I was very happy to be a part of last year.
- 35:54This year's night will be on Tuesday, December 10th.
- 35:58Hanukkah is very late this year. It is a between Christmas and
- 36:02New Year's Hanukkah, so very, very late.
- 36:04But we'll get the menorahs out a couple early for the game.
- 36:07Tuesday, December 10th against the flames.
- 36:10Good Manora pun, right? There will be a lot of flames in
- 36:13the building that night as we light the candles.
- 36:16We will have more details for you guys on how you can sign up
- 36:18for that on next week's podcast. If you already have a ticket for
- 36:22the game, there will be a way that you can add the pregame
- 36:25Jewish Community Night to your ticket.
- 36:27If not, you can also get a ticket for that.
- 36:29But want to let everybody know Tuesday night, December 10th
- 36:32before the game will be the Predators Hanukkah Celebration
- 36:35for Jewish Community Night. And they're also maybe a special
- 36:38giveaway Hanukkah themed Preds item for those who come to the
- 36:43event. But we'll have more details next
- 36:45week. But wanted to make sure
- 36:46everybody knew the date for that one.
- 36:48And everyone is welcome. Every Preds fan is welcome
- 36:51regardless of your religious affiliation.
- 36:53Last year we had how GAIL and Chris Mason join the party.
- 36:57Will Cara Hammer be joining the Hanukkah party this year?
- 37:00I would love to, that sounds great.
- 37:02You're in Jared Stillman and I will be running the show, so
- 37:05we'll make it happen. That's Tuesday, December 10th.
- 37:07More details will come. If you're interested, tweet at
- 37:09me or DM me on Twitter at Maxers talks.
- 37:12I can send you a direct, direct link for that.
- 37:14Once the tickets for Jewish Community Night are available,
- 37:18we'll take a break. Come back.
- 37:19Got a couple more fun stories from the road trip to tell and
- 37:22our interview of the week here on the Predators official
- 37:24podcast on ESPN. One O 2 five and one O 6 three
- 37:27the game. Let me upgrade.
- 37:35I hear you'll be the block, but I'm the like to keep the streets
- 37:37on. No, that's true.
- 37:38The type that like to keep them on the least though.
- 37:43Welcome back to the Predators official podcast here on ESPN
- 37:46102.5 and 106.3. The game.
- 37:49My name is Max hers from Preds radio along with Kara Hammer
- 37:52from Preds TV. Now we're just going deep in our
- 37:55bag on the PO playlist here. Kara a little throwback Beyoncé.
- 38:00I don't think Brooks and Thomas are pulling that out.
- 38:03I don't think so either. Yeah, I love some BAE.
- 38:05Yeah, Queen Bee saw her at Nissan Stadium a couple summers
- 38:09ago before she went country. Paul McCann is a huge Beyoncé
- 38:15fan, so did you see him there? There were a lot of people
- 38:19there, but I'm sure he was there.
- 38:21Paul was sadly not doing PA for the concert.
- 38:24That would have been fun. I've heard that Coldplay is a
- 38:27hot is a hot summer item in Asheville this this season.
- 38:31Have you heard that, Max? I don't know, I I was hoping to
- 38:34get my way into Jelly Roll at Bridgestone Arena in a couple
- 38:36weeks, which I guess now is 4 days away because time is
- 38:40flying, but I'm, I'm not good at planning far in advance.
- 38:44I don't know, I mean, I'd go to Coldplay.
- 38:45That's a Brooks Bratton concert right there.
- 38:49I I would be excited to go see Jelly Roll.
- 38:51Yeah, I saw his night headlining at CMAS this summer, which was
- 38:56quite good, so a full show would be even better.
- 39:00Andy's teaming up with Post Malone this summer.
- 39:03All right, well then, I'm no longer interested.
- 39:05Time for our interview of the week from the road trip.
- 39:08We had a lot of interviews this road trip.
- 39:10Our interview of the week, as it sometimes does, comes at Hal
- 39:14Gill's expense from Philip Forsberg after the win in
- 39:17Vancouver on Sunday night. Pretty impressive.
- 39:20Yeah. I I got to ask you, I feel like
- 39:23the hockey gods haven't taken care of you guys.
- 39:25You think you haven't been getting the breaks.
- 39:27But tonight I feel like you really, you had to work for the
- 39:29breaks and you made them happen. Do.
- 39:31You take a deep breath now and feel a little like OK, we're.
- 39:35We're on to something now I. Mean, you know this league is
- 39:38you can't take any deep breath in this league, you know that
- 39:41you're huffing and puffing. Always I think, but.
- 39:44No, but I think it was, it was like I said, the effort was was
- 39:47great obviously and and I thought yeah, key.
- 39:50Key moments. We stepped up tonight and I
- 39:51thought that was very encouraging going forward.
- 39:53No deep breaths in this league, Philip Forsberg says.
- 39:57Unless you want to be huffing and puffing like Al GAIL out
- 40:00there. Forrest Gilsey.
- 40:04He's the butt of every joke and that's why we love him.
- 40:10Just unnecessary shots from Phil, but we love it for sure.
- 40:13One other fun story from the road trip we talked in the first
- 40:16segment. Zach LaRue scored his first NHL
- 40:18goal in that same game against Vancouver on Sunday night.
- 40:21That was a late game 9:00 Nashville time start.
- 40:24He scored his first goal in the first period and we talked after
- 40:29LaRue debuted on the podcast about his parents, Robert and
- 40:32Siobhan, who hopped around in Nashville for two or three weeks
- 40:35and actually stayed on the pull out couch in Larue's hotel room
- 40:39here in Nashville to stick around as long as they possibly
- 40:42could. They were not in Vancouver for
- 40:44his first goal. That would have been quite a
- 40:45trip from Quebec to British Columbia.
- 40:48But they texted him as soon as he scored.
- 40:50They knew he obviously wouldn't see it till after the game, but
- 40:53they said we're staying up to FaceTime.
- 40:56You FaceTime us when you can after the game.
- 40:59And they got to share a special family moment, the three of them
- 41:02on the phone after the goal. That's so cool.
- 41:06Oh my gosh, His family was great.
- 41:08I love that they were there for his NHL debut, but what a
- 41:12special moment to to FaceTime after the game.
- 41:14And they basically never left. And you talked about his
- 41:17grandparents who were in the house for his debut.
- 41:20One set of them was there. Was it his mom's grandparents or
- 41:24his dad's grandparents who were there, do you know or no?
- 41:26You know, I, I never got clarification on that.
- 41:29I was just told from Marc Borvietsky that the grandma who
- 41:33was not in attendance was was the was the grandma who who was
- 41:38like the real Spitfire of the family.
- 41:39Oh my God, that's a family full of them too.
- 41:42But we have a paternal grandfather who is an active
- 41:46tweeter. This is Raymond LaRue on Twitter
- 41:48who quote tweeted one of my tweets about the goal.
- 41:50And I just want everybody to feel good 'cause everybody has
- 41:53their grandparents who who loved on them and embarrassed them and
- 41:57all this stuff as grandparents do.
- 42:00And it can still happen when you're a 21 year old NHL rookie
- 42:03scoring your first goal. The tweet from Raymond LaRue.
- 42:06So proud. You are spectacular.
- 42:09Love you grandma and grandpa. And then five fluttering heart
