- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, one of the guys in that video is here
- 0:09Speaker 1: with me now, Joey Bart, catcher and ex teammate of
- 0:13Speaker 1: Eric Kratz. I believe for what a day or two?
- 0:15Speaker 1: How many days were you guys teammates there?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Kratzy?
- 0:18Speaker 3: Four seconds? He wasn't.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, what do you say about forty eight hours?
- 0:24Speaker 2: He said? Four seconds? Four seconds? I feel what did
- 0:26Speaker 2: you come in like the last day of camp?
- 0:28Speaker 3: It was yeah, I went to I went to the
- 0:32Speaker 3: last day of camp, the exhibition games, and then the
- 0:35Speaker 3: season started and you got fired right after that.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I couldn't remember. I know it would long,
- 0:43Speaker 4: but I remember you being there.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Hey, who was a greater giant? Me, Joey or you? Kratzy?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Who who was? Who? Who is the best giant of
- 0:51Speaker 2: the three of us?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I'm gonna say, because you brought it up,
- 0:55Speaker 3: it's you, because we wanted always to revert.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Back to you.
- 0:58Speaker 3: But that was the year that I had three hundred
- 1:01Speaker 3: for three different teams. I had a hundred for the Giants,
- 1:04Speaker 3: I had a hundred for the Rays, and I had
- 1:06Speaker 3: one hundred for the Yankees.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I didn't mean it like that, because I'm
- 1:13Speaker 1: like Giants. Fans love me, so I figured that they
- 1:16Speaker 1: brought you actually might win this one.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Grat three of us.
- 1:23Speaker 3: You look at my stats, it was not It was
- 1:25Speaker 3: not good. Joey Bart. Joey Bart was he was the
- 1:28Speaker 3: next coming. But you know what, now he's a pirate.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Now he's a pirate eye patch or a wooden leg.
- 1:35Speaker 2: What was that journey like for you?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Because you were super high pick coming out of college, right,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and then you go there with all the hype and
- 1:41Speaker 1: you have Buster there, so you're kind of like, ah,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and then you have to follow him. What's it like
- 1:45Speaker 1: then now to come to Pittsburgh kind of get a
- 1:47Speaker 1: fresh start and really take.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Off, right? Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I think in baseball that was just kind of a
- 1:53Speaker 4: you know, kind of a transitional kind of crazy time,
- 1:56Speaker 4: you know what I mean. I feel like I got
- 1:58Speaker 4: I got into my first season and next thing, you know,
- 2:00Speaker 4: I was in the big leagues, and next thing you know,
- 2:02Speaker 4: Buster came back, I was back in the minor leagues.
- 2:06Speaker 4: So I feel like it was kind of it was
- 2:07Speaker 4: kind of flip floped. I kind of got to the
- 2:09Speaker 4: big leagues with you know, I think it was probably
- 2:11Speaker 4: like two hundred and fifty year not even three hundred,
- 2:15Speaker 4: you know, minor league get that.
- 2:16Speaker 2: So I feel like I.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Kind of my development in a way was kind of
- 2:21Speaker 4: a little different than most, you know, and obviously the
- 2:23Speaker 4: season being canceled, and but you know there was there's
- 2:26Speaker 4: some a lot of good, cool things to learn there and.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I learned a ton of things.
- 2:31Speaker 4: There's a lot of good people in San Francisco, man
- 2:34Speaker 4: all around, and you know, I think everybody has their
- 2:36Speaker 4: own kind of way, and uh, everybody finds their spot,
- 2:39Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and just really battling and
- 2:42Speaker 4: every day trying to get better and you know, provide
- 2:45Speaker 4: the most as a player. And that's kind of where
- 2:48Speaker 4: it's become here in Pittsburgh. And you know, I've been
- 2:49Speaker 4: I've been enjoying it over here.
- 2:51Speaker 3: What's the one piece of advice that you can give
- 2:53Speaker 3: to somebody who didn't spend a lot of time in
- 2:56Speaker 3: the big in the minor leagues and then gets thrust
- 3:00Speaker 3: into a team like you for the like you guys
- 3:02Speaker 3: for the Pirates that's trying to win. Because when you
- 3:05Speaker 3: got called up to the Giants, they weren't like, ah,
- 3:08Speaker 3: you know what, we're in a rebuild. We're gonna try
- 3:09Speaker 3: to win.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Yeah, man, that franchise wants to win. That's what's awesome
- 3:15Speaker 4: about the Giants and fan base. Everybody over there is great,
- 3:19Speaker 4: you know. I think, especially kind of my first full
- 3:21Speaker 4: go there in twenty two, coming off that twenty one season,
- 3:24Speaker 4: that one hundred and seven win season, the expectations were high,
- 3:27Speaker 4: and you know, we came out of the gates pretty
- 3:30Speaker 4: well there and kind of hit a stall, but we
- 3:33Speaker 4: were very competitive. Obviously a lot of good players, a
- 3:36Speaker 4: lot of good talent over there, and as you see
- 3:38Speaker 4: some of the guys, some of my buddies over there
- 3:40Speaker 4: still there, Logan Web, guys like that, really came into
- 3:42Speaker 4: their own and really figured it out, you know what
- 3:45Speaker 4: I mean, And you know it's it's it's definitely a
- 3:49Speaker 4: cool place.
- 3:49Speaker 5: First base and obviously catching, what's that been like for you?
- 3:53Speaker 5: Obviously trying to get the majority of playing time behind
- 3:55Speaker 5: the plate, but kind of still making your way there
- 3:58Speaker 5: with the with the buckoes.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's just trying to find ways to
- 4:02Speaker 4: get as many at bats as possible is really what
- 4:04Speaker 4: it comes down to, especially left handed to bats.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You know, it's something to my strength.
- 4:09Speaker 4: So if we can if we can get you know,
- 4:12Speaker 4: get me out there more against lefties or just really
- 4:14Speaker 4: on the field. Optimize at bats is really the goal?
- 4:17Speaker 2: What uh?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Speaking of O'Neil Cruse, I just saw him in the
- 4:19Speaker 1: locker room in there. Is he the biggest dude you've
- 4:22Speaker 1: ever seen in your life. Man, he's absolutely my cheer.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And he called him an avatar the way he looks
- 4:27Speaker 1: like an avatar, just because of his body and the
- 4:30Speaker 1: way he looks and how athletic he is.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It's insane. It's unbelievable.
- 4:33Speaker 4: This guy's When I came over here, this guy's hitting
- 4:36Speaker 4: balls like one hundred and twenty something miles an hour,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and everybody's walking around the dugout like it's normal, and
- 4:41Speaker 4: I'm like over here trying.
- 4:42Speaker 2: To understand what's going on, you know what I mean.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Then you see him throw balls one hundred miles an
- 4:46Speaker 4: hour from the outfield, steel bases it. You know, when
- 4:49Speaker 4: everybody in the stadium knows he's running, he's gone and
- 4:52Speaker 4: off and safe and dude, this guy's this guy's got it.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Man.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I think he's really come in this spring too, locked in,
- 4:58Speaker 4: So I'm excited to see him play. Obviously, he he
- 5:02Speaker 4: I was actually just messing with him.
- 5:03Speaker 2: They didn't give him a ton of playing time.
- 5:04Speaker 4: But when he did, Man, when they did over there,
- 5:06Speaker 4: he was they hit two homers, you know what I mean.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I'm like, man, they couldn't get you out there, but
- 5:11Speaker 4: he's locked in and he's ready to go. I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 4: who you gonna pig out Julio Soto? Yeah, we're gonna
- 5:17Speaker 4: platis is out there. That teams stacked. Man, So it's
- 5:20Speaker 4: good to see him.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Ufully, you said to USA too, you just walk by him,
- 5:23Speaker 1: just gonna go to us.
- 5:25Speaker 4: No, Man, I think they're kind of you know, they're
- 5:28Speaker 4: probably probably I would be very disappointed, obviously, but I
- 5:30Speaker 4: just kind of picked him up and said, man, you
- 5:32Speaker 4: guys killed it. You look good, and I'm excited to
- 5:34Speaker 4: see Cruzy do his thing.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Here brings me, brings me to the point that we
- 5:38Speaker 3: used to play the game, like if you could switch
- 5:41Speaker 3: with somebody in the big leagues. Obviously you're talking about O'Neil.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Cruz could hit the ball one hundred and twenty miles
- 5:46Speaker 3: an hour, you can throw it one hundred miles an hour.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Is there a dude that you've seen in the big
- 5:50Speaker 3: leagues and you're like, I kind of wish like I
- 5:52Speaker 3: could be him for like one year and just playing out,
- 5:56Speaker 3: not talking about the money, not just playing the game
- 5:59Speaker 3: of baseball in that guy's shoes for an entire season.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Man, that's a good question, you know. Growing up, for me,
- 6:11Speaker 4: it was Brian McCann. You know where I'm from, being
- 6:14Speaker 4: from Atlanta, I always you know, B Mack was Gosh,
- 6:18Speaker 4: he's gonna live not far from me now, and you know,
- 6:21Speaker 4: just being a catcher, being a hitter, you know what
- 6:23Speaker 4: I mean, just being kind of the full package there
- 6:25Speaker 4: for a while.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That was a guy that always kind.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Of looked up to big league, you know when you
- 6:29Speaker 4: see him. I haven't seen him in a while. Man,
- 6:31Speaker 4: it's been a while.
- 6:31Speaker 2: If you walked up to B Mack, would he know
- 6:33Speaker 2: who you are? I would hope.
- 6:35Speaker 4: So, I know he's still tapped into the game. Obviously
- 6:39Speaker 4: he's you know, he's on the staff there with the WBC.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But uh, yeah, man, be Mack.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I've heard so many cool stories and you know, so
- 6:45Speaker 4: many obviously watched a ton of ton of his career
- 6:48Speaker 4: and I actually used to hit with his brother, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: coming in you know, I think it was probably my
- 6:53Speaker 4: soft year, sophomore year at college, I was. I was
- 6:55Speaker 4: messing around hitting with his brother a little bit, trying
- 6:57Speaker 4: to pick up on some things. So that's just kind
- 7:00Speaker 4: of like a legendary name where I'm from, Joey.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Why is Paul Skeins as good as advertised? I mean,
- 7:06Speaker 5: you've been around him now a couple of years. He's,
- 7:08Speaker 5: in my opinion, the face of baseball when it comes
- 7:10Speaker 5: to pitching. Perhaps he and Trek Scooble on the American
- 7:13Speaker 5: League side. But what makes him just must watch TV.
- 7:20Speaker 4: I think he just knows he's the best. I mean,
- 7:22Speaker 4: I think that's what it comes down to. He just
- 7:26Speaker 4: knows he I mean, I was talking to my agent
- 7:28Speaker 4: the other day before I guess two days ago at
- 7:31Speaker 4: dinner and before he pitched against the against the dr
- 7:36Speaker 4: I was like, man, this guy's gonna lock it down.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I mean, I've never seen him not rise the occasion.
- 7:40Speaker 4: He's the ultimate escape artist when guys get on get
- 7:43Speaker 4: on base. You know, we're always laughing about it in
- 7:45Speaker 4: the dugout once whenever he gets into it jam the
- 7:48Speaker 4: moment never gets there, you know what I mean.
- 7:50Speaker 2: He's always ready for it and he gets himself out
- 7:53Speaker 2: of it.
- 7:53Speaker 4: But I mean, I think you can look at the
- 7:55Speaker 4: substance obviously of what he's done, and you could probably
- 7:58Speaker 4: say it's really never been done before. And the way
- 8:01Speaker 4: he attacks every day is on a whole other level
- 8:03Speaker 4: and is really my mindset mentality is elite, and that's
- 8:06Speaker 4: why you know he does what he does.
- 8:10Speaker 3: This one's for the dudes looking for peak bedroom performance.

- 9:11Speaker 3: Have you ever seen emotion out of him? Because there's
- 9:13Speaker 3: so many memes of him, like getting his awards and
- 9:16Speaker 3: he's like the nonchalant final boss. But you talk about confidence.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Usually I think of guys that have confidence as there's
- 9:24Speaker 3: a don't show any emotion because they're just like, yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 3: that's what I want to do. But have you ever
- 9:28Speaker 3: seen emotion out of him?
- 9:31Speaker 4: The most emotion I've seen out of him, I think
- 9:33Speaker 4: was what everybody was posting the other night after they
- 9:35Speaker 4: won the game.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You know, I mean, I think you know, he we.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Have fun together obviously, you know he's locked in trying
- 9:42Speaker 4: to get him to have as much fun as he can,
- 9:44Speaker 4: you know what I mean, other than just dominating at
- 9:45Speaker 4: all times. But I would say that's the most emotion
- 9:50Speaker 4: I've seen out of him for sure. When he's here, man,
- 9:52Speaker 4: it's just business all day, every day. Obviously, he's a
- 9:55Speaker 4: great dude, brings a lot of you know, brings a
- 9:57Speaker 4: lot to the clubhouse as well. But you know, when
- 9:59Speaker 4: he gets on there, when it's it's day. You know,
- 10:01Speaker 4: you better watch out because he's coming.
- 10:03Speaker 1: By the way, you've seen the meme where he was
- 10:05Speaker 1: looking at Bobby Witt smiling and they cut it against
- 10:07Speaker 1: when he was in his Rookie of the Year and
- 10:10Speaker 1: they're like Bobby Witt versus.
- 10:14Speaker 4: I actually have not seen that, but I mean you're talking,
- 10:17Speaker 4: you know, one A, one B with those two players there.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Does he have fun? Does schemes have fun?
- 10:22Speaker 1: Because I mean you mentioned all business like, yeah, but
- 10:25Speaker 1: it's so when you see him smile, you are just.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Na he has fun. Man.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I think I think I think he's from when he
- 10:33Speaker 4: first came up to the big league till now, I've
- 10:35Speaker 4: been able to see that he's having I mean he has.
- 10:39Speaker 2: He has He's tired of answering Paul Skiing questions. Not
- 10:42Speaker 2: really everybody asked me. I mean he's not He's not
- 10:47Speaker 2: huge out there.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so every it's like, show hey, anyone anything on
- 10:52Speaker 1: schemes is kind of the same way Scooble.
- 10:54Speaker 2: He throws him foo out there a little more. Skeins
- 10:57Speaker 2: is just so business oriented. Yeah. You never hear him
- 10:59Speaker 2: talk that much.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Yeah, he doesn't. Man, I think I think that's just
- 11:03Speaker 4: who he is, and I like that about him. You know,
- 11:05Speaker 4: I think it would be weird if he changed and
- 11:06Speaker 4: all of a sudden trying to take over the spotlight.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean, he already does that with what he does,
- 11:10Speaker 2: you know.
- 11:11Speaker 4: But nah, yes, fun man, we have a blast together
- 11:14Speaker 4: and uh in the clubhouse and you know, on the
- 11:17Speaker 4: road trips and stuff. We always try to, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 4: go out to dinners and you know, have buy.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he chips in. I have to pay
- 11:25Speaker 2: now because you're our guys, so now you have to.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah, we're you know, we had some guys last year
- 11:30Speaker 4: that actually wouldn't let anybody pay, which are great teammates,
- 11:34Speaker 4: but there were some times there was like, all right, man,
- 11:38Speaker 4: you can't. You can't eat this bill anymore. Let someone
- 11:40Speaker 4: else pick it up. At least we'll split it a
- 11:41Speaker 4: couple of ways. Okay, you went to Georgia Tech. You're
- 11:44Speaker 4: from the Atlanta area. What is it about Georgia Tech
- 11:47Speaker 4: and catchers? They've had a long from bear attach to you.
- 11:49Speaker 4: They have a really good catcher this year. Yeah, I
- 11:51Speaker 4: don't know if you've seen a really good catcher. Yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 4: what is it about Georgia Tech and catchers? It's made
- 11:56Speaker 4: it such a great place to go. You know, that's
- 11:58Speaker 4: a you know we're actually talking about this. Yeah, Eric Patterson,
- 12:01Speaker 4: former tech legend. Man, he's our Triple A manager here
- 12:04Speaker 4: and it will be in Indianapolis. And everybody asked that question.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I don't think we have an answer, honestly. I mean,
- 12:10Speaker 4: I think they do a good job of recruiting. But
- 12:12Speaker 4: at the same time, I you know, the kid they
- 12:14Speaker 4: have now they're Lackey was kind of an under the
- 12:16Speaker 4: radar guy. I think he got an offer like at
- 12:18Speaker 4: the very end of his high school career, I think
- 12:20Speaker 4: is what he told me, and he's kind of just
- 12:22Speaker 4: taken off with it.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Man.
- 12:23Speaker 4: So I don't know if there's you know, I don't
- 12:27Speaker 4: really know if there's an answer to that question other
- 12:29Speaker 4: than like it's just kind of like the tradition there
- 12:31Speaker 4: and it just kind of time repeats itself and a
- 12:33Speaker 4: new guy shows up that's pretty good.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Have you seen Drew Burris?
- 12:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I've seen that guy. He's got it, man,
- 12:39Speaker 4: he's got it. He's a little guy, but he doesn't
- 12:42Speaker 4: play like a little guy, you know what I mean.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I think I had a scout tell me he's just
- 12:45Speaker 4: got bad intentions at the plate, and I was like,
- 12:48Speaker 4: that's exactly what I see.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You know, they're good. They're supposed to be good this year.
- 12:51Speaker 1: They are good so far.
- 12:52Speaker 4: They went into Clemson, which is something we've always struggled
- 12:55Speaker 4: with when I was there to beat him in Clemson,
- 12:57Speaker 4: and I think they won two out of three and
- 12:59Speaker 4: it played ball. So I'm excited for what Ramsey and
- 13:02Speaker 4: those guys have going on down here.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And by the way, the answer is Georgia Tech's a
- 13:05Speaker 1: really smart school. Yeah, so you got to have smart people. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and Catchers are the smartest guys in the field. So
- 13:11Speaker 1: it's just a natural thing. That's your answer.
- 13:12Speaker 2: That's yea.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I want to ask you that you're saying, Hey, catchers
- 13:15Speaker 1: are the smartest. We are smart schools, so we have
- 13:17Speaker 1: to have smart guys.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I mean I can't argue there. Okay, Well, Jody,
- 13:22Speaker 2: thank you for joining us. We appreciate it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: From one legend of the Giants to another, and another
- 13:27Speaker 1: on the screen on the right, thank you for joining us.
- 13:29Speaker 1: We hope you have a great year, continue success and
- 13:31Speaker 1: go pirates here.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Let's go man. I appreciate you guys.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Hello podcast listeners. First of all, We love you and
- 13:37Speaker 6: thank you for listening to our show all the time.
- 13:40Speaker 6: Real talk, we dealt with some Wi Fi gremlins. So
- 13:42Speaker 6: let's pick up our conversation with new pirate Ryan O'Hearn
- 13:45Speaker 6: at Bucco's camp.
- 13:47Speaker 1: What uh, what's life like? You mostly played first base
- 13:52Speaker 1: DH in your career, right field, right field?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah? Is that different? It's definitely different.
- 13:59Speaker 7: I think it's been fun to actually get to be
- 14:01Speaker 7: a full time outfielder. Like I'm doing the outfield drills,
- 14:04Speaker 7: I'm shagging every day, I'm like practicing throwing, you know,
- 14:08Speaker 7: from right field.
- 14:09Speaker 2: So it's been fun to like.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Dive into a full time because in the past it's
- 14:12Speaker 7: been like, hey, you're first baseman, but like, hey today
- 14:14Speaker 7: you're gonna play right and to first base. So to
- 14:17Speaker 7: be able to like full on get after it and
- 14:19Speaker 7: be a right fielder, my mind's been fun.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And I know it's gonna be a lot of work.
- 14:23Speaker 7: I know it's gonna be a lot of running, but
- 14:26Speaker 7: you know, I feel like I'm as prepared for it
- 14:27Speaker 7: as I can be.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Are you tired from all the running? Uh? The first base?
- 14:32Speaker 2: Do they get some grounders? You take it? Got you
- 14:34Speaker 2: flip a couple here and there.
- 14:35Speaker 7: Now there's definitely some more ground to cover, that's a fact.
- 14:37Speaker 7: But no, I'm not too tired. I feel good. I'm
- 14:40Speaker 7: excited about it. Yeah, some days it's really chill and
- 14:44Speaker 7: then some days it's really not chill.
- 14:47Speaker 2: So it just depends on the day.
- 14:48Speaker 3: All right, O'Neil Cruz has been gone, Your center fielder
- 14:51Speaker 3: has been gone. Have you gotten to play out there
- 14:53Speaker 3: yet with him in center field?
- 14:56Speaker 1: H yes, I think maybe like three or four times
- 14:59Speaker 1: before he h and did the WBC.
- 15:02Speaker 2: But you know, obviously that guy's tooled up out of
- 15:05Speaker 2: his mind.
- 15:05Speaker 7: I'm gonna kind of be peeking at him, stay out
- 15:07Speaker 7: of his way, let him do his thing. I mean,
- 15:12Speaker 7: I promise you I can't throw the ball one hundred
- 15:14Speaker 7: and five from the outfield, and I'm probably half as
- 15:17Speaker 7: fast as he is. So I'm gonna just stay in
- 15:19Speaker 7: my lane, take care of the balls that I should catch,
- 15:21Speaker 7: and then go let him be superman.
- 15:23Speaker 3: That's what That's what I was gonna ask, like, are
- 15:25Speaker 3: you gonna like, are you gonna look over and like
- 15:28Speaker 3: if he moves, you're gonna be like, Hi, you got this?
- 15:31Speaker 3: And will there be a ball in the right center
- 15:32Speaker 3: gap where you're both getting there at the same time
- 15:35Speaker 3: and you're like, oh, Neil, I got this one. I'll
- 15:38Speaker 3: throw it in or are you just gonna get it
- 15:40Speaker 3: and flip it to him? Be like here you go
- 15:43Speaker 3: take it, and then he just fires that.
- 15:44Speaker 1: John maybe a little bit of both. I mean, I'm
- 15:48Speaker 1: definitely gonna be peaking at him.
- 15:49Speaker 7: Running into him in the outfield is probably like the
- 15:51Speaker 7: last thing that I want to do. I don't know
- 15:53Speaker 7: if you've seen it, but he's looks like he's at
- 15:54Speaker 7: it about twenty five pounds of muscle and h he's
- 15:58Speaker 7: a monster.
- 15:59Speaker 2: So I don't want to run to that guy.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I always joked here here last year and he walked
- 16:02Speaker 1: by in mc cutcheons here and he goes, you've seen
- 16:05Speaker 1: that guy.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he looks like an avatar. The avatar, that's what
- 16:09Speaker 2: he looks. He does.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It's it's just unbelievable close Now he's a freeing absolutely
- 16:13Speaker 1: how just in shape and what he looks like. It's
- 16:16Speaker 1: like he takes three steps jogging and he covers like
- 16:18Speaker 1: what it takes some like ten steps for me.
- 16:20Speaker 2: So it's easier for him though, cover the whole outfield.
- 16:23Speaker 7: If I had legs that long and I had an
- 16:25Speaker 7: arm that could, you know, throw balls like that, I'd.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Be pretty exciting. You hit a ball one hundred and
- 16:29Speaker 2: twenty like he does.
- 16:30Speaker 7: Absolutely not, And I'm not going to try to because
- 16:32Speaker 7: then I'll just roll over and it'll be the end
- 16:34Speaker 7: of the inning.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Is plenty of How much more important.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Is communication in the outfield than it perhaps it is
- 16:45Speaker 5: in the infield? Is it more important?
- 16:46Speaker 2: I don't know. You tell me definitely coming from first base.
- 16:49Speaker 7: There's not a whole lot of communication at first base,
- 16:52Speaker 7: maybe like that tween your ball between first and second,
- 16:54Speaker 7: But you know, definitely in the outfield, I think it's
- 16:57Speaker 7: a lot more like being able to take your eyes
- 16:59Speaker 7: off the fly ball, peak at your center field er
- 17:01Speaker 7: and see where you're at. And I think, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 7: as we get going into this thing, we'll get used to, uh,
- 17:05Speaker 7: you know, we'll get some some tweer balls between him
- 17:08Speaker 7: and I and we'll get that communication figured out. But
- 17:10Speaker 7: so far it's been great. Man O'Neil's been awesome. He's
- 17:13Speaker 7: you know, easy to talk to, he wants, he's loud,
- 17:14Speaker 7: He you know, calls the ball, communicates, So you know,
- 17:17Speaker 7: I feel pretty good about it.
- 17:19Speaker 3: What is the What was the conversation like, because normally
- 17:22Speaker 3: you're like, okay, somebody doesn't play a lot of outfield,
- 17:25Speaker 3: you're gonna go to left. But for people who don't
- 17:27Speaker 3: know PNC is left field is like playing center field.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Did they even come up to you and go, do
- 17:33Speaker 3: you want to try to play left? Or were they like, no,
- 17:36Speaker 3: you're not playing left, You're playing the shorter porch and right.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:41Speaker 7: Well, I actually asked to be in right because I'm
- 17:43Speaker 7: just for whatever reason, I've been on that side of
- 17:45Speaker 7: the diamond like my entire career, so it just feels
- 17:47Speaker 7: more comfortable in right field than it hasn't left. And
- 17:50Speaker 7: you know, when I was in Baltimore, it was kind
- 17:52Speaker 7: of the same thing, shorter porch and right, so I
- 17:54Speaker 7: played more in right field. So it kind of works
- 17:56Speaker 7: out in that way where PNC shorter porch and right.
- 18:00Speaker 7: And I'm already comfortable on that side of the diamond anyway,
- 18:02Speaker 7: So I asked initially, you know, obviously it's like, hey,
- 18:04Speaker 7: if you need me to play left, i'll play left,
- 18:06Speaker 7: but I'm a little bit more comfortable and right.
- 18:08Speaker 2: At this point, what hand do you throw it? My
- 18:10Speaker 2: left hand? Oh, do you know where you can play
- 18:12Speaker 2: on the field if you're left handed. Yes, I have
- 18:16Speaker 2: a good space. Yes, try to keep you guys. We
- 18:21Speaker 2: try to keep you guys on that. No one has
- 18:22Speaker 2: ever asked me to play shortstops? Yes, what if they?
- 18:27Speaker 1: What if DK said, do you know bry Ponto Griff
- 18:31Speaker 1: is down today? We really need a short stup? Do
- 18:33Speaker 1: you think you could cover it?
- 18:34Speaker 7: It would definitely be worthwhile watching. I don't know if
- 18:36Speaker 7: immatically play third a game, dimatically play third?
- 18:39Speaker 2: He can do it.
- 18:39Speaker 7: I've seen the video of him making that play the
- 18:42Speaker 7: chopper slow chopper at third.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 18:45Speaker 7: I don't think that it would look very pretty, but
- 18:47Speaker 7: I could probably get some outs if you not, if it.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Was hit hard enough, if you knock it down and
- 18:50Speaker 2: then pick it up a panic.
- 18:51Speaker 7: No, I'm smooth, jazz over there, I come through stag
- 18:54Speaker 7: it make the throne the deal?
- 19:01Speaker 5: Did you guys rally? Not rally, that's probably not the
- 19:03Speaker 5: right word. But did you lobby for Cutch coming back?
- 19:06Speaker 5: I know, I know that's above your pay grade. I'm
- 19:08Speaker 5: not trying to put you in a bad spot, but
- 19:09Speaker 5: is it a little strange being at camp wearing a
- 19:12Speaker 5: Pirates hoodie without Andrew mccutching around.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think that's definitely, you know, a
- 19:20Speaker 7: tough subject because just because of what Couch has meant.
- 19:23Speaker 2: To the organization and the fans here for so long.
- 19:26Speaker 1: You know, With that being said, it's I just got here,
- 19:29Speaker 1: Like I'm not making any demands or like telling them
- 19:32Speaker 1: who I think they should sign, Like you said, that's
- 19:34Speaker 1: above my pay grade.
- 19:35Speaker 2: But you know, obviously, you.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Know, the there's traces of what Cutch has meant to this
- 19:40Speaker 1: organization over the last few years, and it's obvious.
- 19:43Speaker 7: You know, guys still talk about him and how great
- 19:45Speaker 7: he was in the clubhouse and uh, the kind of
- 19:47Speaker 7: guy and player he is. So nothing respect for Cutch
- 19:50Speaker 7: and you know he's not on our team, so you know,
- 19:54Speaker 7: respect for what he's done in the organization over the years.
- 19:57Speaker 7: But the twenty twenty six Pirates are gonna going to
- 19:59Speaker 7: move forward without him, and uh, you know, I'm pretty
- 20:00Speaker 7: excited about the group that.
- 20:01Speaker 2: We have there.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Can you hit a ball into the river? I'm gonna
- 20:05Speaker 1: try definitely here in the game. We'll see.
- 20:09Speaker 7: I mean, I think I need to try and VP
- 20:11Speaker 7: to see like how much effort it takes to get
- 20:13Speaker 7: it out there, but I never hit a ball on
- 20:15Speaker 7: Utah Street, which still bugs me. So I want to
- 20:18Speaker 7: get a ball in the river at some point, even
- 20:20Speaker 7: on a hop.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I don't care. I just want to see the video
- 20:23Speaker 2: and be hitting the ball and then watching.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It go in the river and hit one in the
- 20:28Speaker 1: bay in San Francisco, and that's probably cooler. I think,
- 20:31Speaker 1: so kind of cool when I was.
- 20:33Speaker 7: A giant, the idea of people sitting in a canoe
- 20:36Speaker 7: waiting for it to happen, and then it happens, and
- 20:37Speaker 7: then they jump off the canoe into the freezing day
- 20:39Speaker 7: to get your baseball.
- 20:40Speaker 1: It's like it was a little different when I played,
- 20:42Speaker 1: though I had buried there. So he hit them all
- 20:44Speaker 1: the time. Deal for all the people, they weren't waiting
- 20:47Speaker 1: for you. They were not expecting me to be the
- 20:51Speaker 1: guy to hit one, So it is pretty odd. I
- 20:53Speaker 1: wonder you think they were disappointed when they got the ball.
- 20:59Speaker 2: One.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Have you talked, I mean you talk Connor Griffin's guy
- 21:05Speaker 1: of the Talk of Camp. Yeah, have you discussed with
- 21:08Speaker 1: him if he makes a team, what it's going to
- 21:09Speaker 1: be like on opening days? Because you're, honestly, you're a
- 21:13Speaker 1: veteran on this team. You're you're an older guy on
- 21:15Speaker 1: this team. Go around and talk to a young guy
- 21:18Speaker 1: like Connor.
- 21:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I try to talk to him as
- 21:21Speaker 7: much as possible.
- 21:22Speaker 2: He's been great. Man.
- 21:23Speaker 7: He reminds me of you know, I've had the pleasure
- 21:27Speaker 7: of getting to play with Bobby Witt, Gunner Jackson, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 7: all these guys that are so highly touted, and he's
- 21:32Speaker 7: no different.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Man. He's super mature.
- 21:34Speaker 7: I can't believe he's nineteen because he looks like a
- 21:35Speaker 7: grown man, and he's mature as they as they come.
- 21:38Speaker 2: So I've been really impressed with him. Even when he
- 21:41Speaker 2: makes out so.
- 21:41Speaker 7: He hit him all one hundred five miles an Houries
- 21:44Speaker 7: making every play on defense.
- 21:46Speaker 2: He's been awesome to watch and I'm.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Excited to play with him, whether that's on Opening Day
- 21:51Speaker 1: or whenever they decide to bring him up.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I think he's gonna be really good for our team.
- 21:55Speaker 3: What is what is the most impressive superpower? Speed, maturity, size, power,
- 22:03Speaker 3: arm strength? What is his most impressive superpower?
- 22:08Speaker 2: Oh?
- 22:08Speaker 7: Man, probably, I mean all of the baseball attributes just
- 22:11Speaker 7: seem to come like so easy for him. So I'm
- 22:13Speaker 7: gonna say the maturity, because you know, It's like if
- 22:17Speaker 7: you watch him take batting practice, like the power is crazy,
- 22:20Speaker 7: watch him run, the speed is crazy. His defense is
- 22:23Speaker 7: so good. It's like all of that is just so natural.
- 22:25Speaker 7: But when you take that whole package as a player
- 22:28Speaker 7: and you pair it with the fact that he's like
- 22:30Speaker 7: really mature, like he doesn't you know, if he gets
- 22:33Speaker 7: out or gets fooled or whatever, it just seems like
- 22:36Speaker 7: it doesn't really phase him, you know. And I think
- 22:38Speaker 7: that's for a lot of guys that takes time for
- 22:40Speaker 7: that to come. But for him, you know, seems like
- 22:42Speaker 7: he's right there mentally, He's right where he needs to be.
- 22:45Speaker 7: And you know, and I'm sure that you know, win
- 22:48Speaker 7: some points from the front office making their decision.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I wanted to bring him.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Up Ryan Patrick O'Hearn happy Saint Patrick's stay. Is this
- 22:56Speaker 5: a big deal in your life?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yes, yes.
- 23:01Speaker 1: My dad is like a stoked for this day every year,
- 23:04Speaker 1: like this is this is his Christmas?
- 23:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm sure he's had a few green beers already.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I'm sure he's looking for some corn, beef and cabbage.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I love. Yeah, he's he already asked me like.
- 23:16Speaker 7: If there's a pub around here, that sells kill Kenny Kenny,
- 23:19Speaker 7: it's like his favorite.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he's here and yesterday yesterday again there's Benigans around here.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I don't think Benigans is still over, but yeah, it's
- 23:31Speaker 1: a big deal in our family birthday.
- 23:33Speaker 7: Yeah, he turned seventy yesterday. Yeah, it's a big spring
- 23:37Speaker 7: training in big a couple of days for him. So
- 23:39Speaker 7: soon as this game's over, I'm gonna.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Go hang out with him, have a couple of.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Couples, couple of green beers. All right, last question, super random.
- 23:45Speaker 3: You're in Bradenton. Have you smelled them burning the orange rinds?
- 23:51Speaker 3: Because there's like some kind of like orange oranges factory
- 23:55Speaker 3: production thing behind the stadium. Have you smelled that? Usually
- 23:59Speaker 3: on Tuesdays is when they burn it.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Have they done that? I haven't smelled any burning oranges.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I don't know what he's talking about. I feel like
- 24:08Speaker 2: there's a school behind the field.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I don't know what he's talking left right now there's
- 24:14Speaker 3: no one left, but there's there's something like back in
- 24:17Speaker 3: right field, back past where they put the new the
- 24:20Speaker 3: new additions on. Anyway, haven't But next Tuesday, I want
- 24:25Speaker 3: to be outside sniffing or ill.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You know what day it is today, Tuesday, Tuesday.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I don't smell nothingrats. Yeah, making that.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Out because Kratz is a hater on Florida. He's trying
- 24:37Speaker 1: to make people think it. And by the way, the
- 24:41Speaker 1: only thing that smells good around here they have They
- 24:43Speaker 1: have like a Hamburger smash Burger. I smell that and
- 24:46Speaker 1: it's like one of the best burgers in the state.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And it's a food truck right outside. It's not even
- 24:51Speaker 1: in the stadium, it's outside. If you haven't tried it
- 24:53Speaker 1: when you come to Brainton and Pirate City or I
- 24:55Speaker 1: guess this isn't really Pirate City. You got a trial
- 24:58Speaker 1: one of those before we let you go. One thing
- 25:01Speaker 1: you're looking forward to in Pittsburgh and you can't be
- 25:03Speaker 1: a Primanny Brothers sandwich.
- 25:06Speaker 7: You know what I'm looking forward to is opening day
- 25:08Speaker 7: at home because I played an opening Obviously that's a
- 25:12Speaker 7: cop out answer, but like just to see the fans, man,
- 25:14Speaker 7: just to get in the stadium full of fans, and
- 25:17Speaker 7: you know, I want to hit a get a big
- 25:20Speaker 7: hit and just hear the crowd, because you know, there's
- 25:23Speaker 7: nothing like that, and especially being on a new team,
- 25:25Speaker 7: everyone talks about how great the fans are here, especially
- 25:27Speaker 7: when the team's good. I think the team is going
- 25:29Speaker 7: to be good, and I'm excited to see how the
- 25:31Speaker 7: fans support us.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Get your first bucko blast. Oh yes, I excited for that. Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 2: that's yes, very excited for Ryan heard, one of the
- 25:40Speaker 2: newest members of the Pittsburgh Fires. Thank you for joining us,
- 25:43Speaker 2: all right, thanks for having to be right back
