Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Less than eight hours until the All White stack on
- 0:02Speaker 1: New run O FIFA First World Cup match kicks off
- 0:05Speaker 1: at one PMTV and Z there's already trouble that comp
- 0:09Speaker 1: midfielder Matt Garbett miss captain's run yesterday because of a
- 0:12Speaker 1: bad hommy and we'll likely miss today's game as well,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and that's a problem. How much of a problem is it,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Jason Paine, Voice of Football.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's a bit of an issue, Andrew, good morning. Yeah,
- 0:24Speaker 2: Matt Garbt I think probably would have started the game
- 0:27Speaker 2: had he been fit. So there's a starting eleven member
- 0:30Speaker 2: who won't be playing. However, having said that, there is
- 0:33Speaker 2: good depth in his position, so it's not absolutely catastrophic.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Other than that, by the sounds of it, it's a
- 0:40Speaker 2: fairly fit in firing squad that Darren basically has to
- 0:43Speaker 2: choose from. So yeah, Matt Garbett aside, well, a fully
- 0:48Speaker 2: fit bunch of men ready to go this afternoon.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Even with Matt not being there. Matt's one of the
- 0:52Speaker 1: few guys there who can score goals. And I don't
- 0:54Speaker 1: know if you've noticed in football you've got to score goals.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And I know if you've noticed about the All Whites,
- 0:58Speaker 1: they haven't been scoring goals.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We score goals, Yeah, goals, goals, goals is what we
- 1:03Speaker 2: need this afternoon. You bang on Andrew, Look, you're right,
- 1:06Speaker 2: Matt Gabtaut has got an eye for it, and somebody's
- 1:08Speaker 2: going to have to do that because yeah, New Zealand's
- 1:11Speaker 2: historically and in the last couple of years particularly, haven't
- 1:15Speaker 2: been able to do that consistently against top sides. Chris
- 1:19Speaker 2: Wood is the obvious source of goals, but you can't
- 1:22Speaker 2: just rely on one guy. Look, I think set peace
- 1:27Speaker 2: time is where perhaps we might get a lot of
- 1:29Speaker 2: change this afternoon and across this tournament. There's a lot
- 1:32Speaker 2: of good set piece deliverers in the side, the likes
- 1:35Speaker 2: of Lebecacaci, Francis de Breeze he gets on and others
- 1:38Speaker 2: are Tim Payne to So that might be where we
- 1:41Speaker 2: get our best chances when they do come. Got to
- 1:46Speaker 2: be clinical. Just have to take the chances. They're not
- 1:49Speaker 2: going to come along very often, must take them when
- 1:51Speaker 2: they do.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Enough about the game, how about the show, because you
- 1:55Speaker 1: know the political tensions around the run team, it's quite remarkable.
- 1:58Speaker 1: There's three hundred thousand onions in LA and they're all
- 2:01Speaker 1: going to have a bit of a protest, either four
- 2:03Speaker 1: or against. It's the first time ever in a World
- 2:05Speaker 1: Cup a host has actually been in conflict with a participant.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of drama, a lot.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Of drama, and we don't know how that's going to
- 2:14Speaker 2: play out this afternoon. Look, and it's going to happen
- 2:17Speaker 2: outside the White Lions, inside the white lines, on the
- 2:20Speaker 2: on the grass. What does that mean for these two teams,
- 2:22Speaker 2: in particular for Iran Andrew How what has that done
- 2:25Speaker 2: to them? I mean they're they're their build up has
- 2:27Speaker 2: been anything but ideal, completely disrupted. So does that really
- 2:33Speaker 2: affect a team or in fact, does it galvanize a team?
- 2:36Speaker 2: We won't know until they take to the grass this afternoon.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But you're right, no football game, no sporting A few
- 2:42Speaker 2: sporting contests, but no World Cup game has ever been
- 2:44Speaker 2: played out against the backdrop of of of one of
- 2:47Speaker 2: the nations being at war with the coast.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Behood on hold on the war stopped the day beforehand.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Any coincidence?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Well, I mean football, the great uniter.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Okay, here's here's a real here's a real trainspot a question.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Both teams their home strips are white. Who's going to
- 3:04Speaker 1: be wearing white today. The all whites are Irun, no
- 3:07Speaker 1: Irana and white today.
- 3:08Speaker 2: The all whites will wear black today, but they will
- 3:11Speaker 2: wear white against Egypt and Belgium.
- 3:13Speaker 1: As I understand why, as around the home team when
- 3:15Speaker 1: they're the bad guys.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I'm really not sure how it works. Is it a
- 3:19Speaker 2: toss of the coin? I'm not sure. Is it alphabetical?
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but I do know where we're in
- 3:23Speaker 2: black this afternoon.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You're up early today. You wouldn't have to be catching
- 3:26Speaker 1: a plane, would you not?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Today? I am on a plane at some point in
- 3:30Speaker 2: the next little while, looking forward to getting to Vancouver
- 3:33Speaker 2: to watch the Egypt and Belgium games. But no, no,
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'm just I'm up early to talking to you. This
- 3:38Speaker 2: is my sole reason for being awake at the moment.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well, I thank you very much, Jason. And when I
- 3:43Speaker 1: heard yesterday that you're off to Vancouver, I think those
- 3:45Speaker 1: are going to be the two best games of our games.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And Canada's a lovely place, Vancouver is a lovely town,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and you will have a great time and you will
- 3:51Speaker 1: give us great insight. And I thank you so much
- 3:53Speaker 1: for wake up early, just for me to day
